Best Electricians in New York, NY

NOTE: This review was written about month after the work was done, so I can't remember all the details perfectly, and as such am giving the electrician the benefit of the doubt where appropriate.  ;-)

I contacted them and clearly specified that I wanted to have the following installed:

- a new ceiling fan/light fixture, with a dimmable light/remote to be connected to it

- two new ceiling lights, with a new dimmer wall switch to be installed for each of the two new lights

When I made the appointment, I asked if I could get Mo, Warren or Eugene, and...surprise, surprise, I was told that '...it all depends on who's available on that date... we'll have to see...however all our people are pros...blahblah' (though Yelp reviews here suggest otherwise...)

I forget the name of the guy who came...maybe Eugene(?).  I just know that it was not Mo, Warren or Randy.

The guy who came was nice and personable enough, and was clearly experienced  However there were a few small things...

Regarding the ceiling fan that has a single light fixture (completely encased under a slippery glass 'dome'...horribly designed, and now impossible to remove, should I ever want to change the bulb.... Argh!) ...anyway, the lighting which I wanted to be dimmable.... I was told in advance that I'd need to purchase a remote intended for use with a ceiling fan, and that would work with a dimmable bulb.  I'm not an electrician, so I don't expect to understand how the light/fan/bulb/remote should intersect with one another or how they should be installed.  That's why I hired a professional electrician.  But at the very least, I know that I purchased the appropriate remote to work with a ceiling fan and a dimmable bulb.

Net, net, it turns out that apparently my particular ceiling fan/light only works with CFL bulbs, and as it also turns out....CFL bulbs are more or less Not Dimmable(?!!)  So.... after my spending all that money for a dimmer, it turns out my light is ultimately NOT dimmable.  In retrospect, it's unfortunate that the electrician didn't know this after reading all the installation directions...after reading the lighting fixture specs??... it's unfortunate that the company didn't forewarn me or inform me that installing a ceiling fan/light, and wanting it to be dimmable, is even more complex than I originally realized??

Once the electrician finished installing the ceiling fan/light, he then moved on to installing my two new ceiling lights.  He started installing the new light in my living room area (...I was nearby working on my computer), and I looked up to see that.... he had simply taken a guess as to which light I wanted in the living room, without actually checking with me first.  Thankfully he hadn't gotten far in the process, so I was able to stop him and tell him he was putting the wrong fixture in the living area ceiling.

The company had told me in advance that if I wanted new dimmers installed, it would be best if I purchased them myself in advance, as it would cost more $ if they had to purchase them FOR me.  So I went to Home Depot, and picked up dimmer switches for the wall.  Unfortunately, as I later realized, dimmer switches are essentially just the electrical component of the dimmer.... they don't come with 'wall plates' to cover up the rest of the area around the dimmer switch itself.  (Never having bought dimmers before, and also buying multiple dimmers at Home Depot...multiple LCD bulbs to try out etc....  why would it have occurred to me that I'd also need totally new wall plates...that my existing ones would no longer work?  

So...  after the work was all done, I had to make another trip to HD to purchase wall plates.  It would have been nice if the company had mentioned this to me when they first suggested I purchase my own dimmer switches.  Like I said, I'm not the expert here... I've never had electrical work like this done before...so why would this detail have occurred to me?

Net, net, they accomplished what I wanted for the most part.  I now have a terrific ceiling fan over my bed.  It's installed evenly, and the moving blades are totally silent.

As for my two new ceiling lights, they look so much nicer than the old-school NYC rental apartment ceiling lights that my cheapo LL had put in.  AND they both dim!  Beautiful!!

Absolutely awesome service. We have an 8 month old baby, and lost power and in resetting the breaker we noticed that the electric in our home had been poorly done and we had melting breakers. A panel needed to be replaced. We were worried about the safety of our home, and Rich and team helped us address the issues right away. Devon came to do the work, and he was professional, timely, and made sure everything was working great before he left. Couldn't ask for better service. We will certainly be using this team's wonderful service again if we need further work done. Highly recommend.

We had a perfect experience working with Mickhael. We had a switch that was not working and he was able to come same day. The problem wound up being significantly more complex than anticipated, as the previous owners had made numerous changes to the electrical during a re-model that made finding the source of the issue very difficult. Despite the extra work, Mickhael honored his original price. He also cleaned up everything immaculately afterwards and our lights now work perfectly. Highly professional and would absolutely recommend.

Excellent service, price and quality of workmanship. I had a gentlemen named Ralph come over to my apt and give me an estimate. Two weeks later he arrived with equipment to install an overhanging ceiling light. Since I rent the apt, he had to install  it in such a way as to not drill behind the cement. Turned out beautiful. Would recommend Ralph as well as the company anyday.

He quoted us one price ($350) and then the next day charged double for the work.  Would not recommend.  So completely unacceptable.

Can't say enough. Came in to install kitchen cabinet lights and went through a few diff. Options on how to get it done. We decided on a way I was comfortable with. Would call on again. On time, professional, friendly and knowledgeable.

G & R Electrical Contractors immediately impressed me as I called Mr. Ganesh that late evening for estimates to upgrade my electrical panel. After their reasonable estimate was provided. The electricians Omesh and AJ worked flawlessly together that early morning into the mid afternoon. They were highly motivated and worked in unison. Omesh answered every question I had. The electricians troubleshooted and provided vital insights regarding my home's electricity. I would high recommend G & R for any electrical task. Thank you, gentleman!

Professional, fast, efficient, and overall a genuine dude, I couldn't have asked for a better electrician. I've been through a fair share of electricians in NYC and these guys seemed to be all the same. They all carried disgruntled, rude attitudes while also overcharging, many didn't even do a satisfactory job. Overall I never had any positive experiences with electricians until I found Hitch. Everything about him reassured me that he was going to do a great job without ripping me off, and especially I felt comfortable around the guy. When he came to replace my breaker panel, not only was his work quick and excellent, on top of that he even fixed my broken intercom, free of charge! This guy is simply awesome and I recommend him to everyone. I'm just so glad I was able to find the #1 electrician in New York!

We needed a new breaker box, as ours was falling apart. CS came by to give me a quote and checked out the electrical in the whole apartment. I thought I might have to rewire the whole place, but they told me that after they swapped out the box that it would probably fix our issues. They steered me away of spending money I didn't need to spend, when they could have easily told me I needed to do more work. They came in, put in the new box, left the apartment cleaner than it was, and were super nice the whole time. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Called to get a quote on replacing the circuit breaker. They couldn't fix it but then said it would be $120 additional just to check the outlets. And charged $160 service charge for nothing. STAY AWAY!!!!

Super quick response time and very good service and very professional. I would highly recommend this company. Price was competitive as well. Fixed my electrical issue in 10 minutes.

I recently completed a renovation of my small kitchen, and it required various electrical tasks. After dealing with a few other flaky electricians, I was happy to connect with the helpful and communicative folks at Electrific. Avi and his team did a bunch of tasks for me, including several light-switch upgrades and the routing/installation of two pendant lamps above my kitchen island. Avi is friendly, knowledgeable, and trustworthy -- and he actually listens to you. I'll be relying on Electrific for my future electrical needs.

Katie (aka Handyma'am) tackled all of our projects with ease and creativity.  She worked efficiently with expertise.  Our doorknobs were fixed, recessed lighting adjusted, bathroom mirror doors re-hung, 100-year-old door handles re-attached, and more projects too numerous to be listed completed. She even offered solutions on future projects!

In short, she was awesome.  We will be calling Katie with all our handy work needs!

Roman and his associate, Serafin, are fantastic. They were punctual, honest and courteous. Not only were they professional and able to do the job fast with no  issues, but they were also the most affordable licensed electrician I found.
