A very responsive, responsible, and honest repairman whose work adheres to a very high standard. Finding a straight shooter in this particular business can sometimes feel impossible, but A1 did exceptional work for me and were open and transparent throughout the entire project. There were no hiccups whatsoever, the whole thing went seamlessly. Cannot recommend this handyman enough.

BEWARE!!!

Hired this guy to do some odds and ends in my NY home as I travel a bit. He did a couple of small jobs for me and seemed reliable and trust worthy. Gave him the lock box info, so he could have access to get in for the work.

I get home one day to find sheets on the bed that I left bare... huh? Clothes strewn about. His iPad sitting on my bed and slippers under the nightstand. Has this guy been sleeping in my house?

I then noticed familiar liquor bottles on the book shelves and mantel above the bed. Rare stuff acquired from international travel that sit there empty. All of it. Every single ounce from every single bottle bottle was gone. Some of the stuff I'd never even opened.

You can imagine the anger and sense of betrayal when I find out he rummaged through boxes of my deceased mother's things and for sure stole an LV purse.

When I confronted him, he said he didn't want to stay with his grandmother... what?!  When I discussed it with a lawyer, they said there is little i could do legally because I have him access. Don't give this guy access to your home.

Non responsive and ridiculous- asked for tip for just looking at a toilet and said a person like you with a nice nyc apartment can't tip?
Made me SO uncomfortable.

I had a great experience with Peter and A1 Construction. I needed some last minute home repairs (local floor sanding, customizing a shower curtain rod for a unique shower shape). Peter got everything done perfectly and was great to coordinate and schedule with. His work is high quality. Highly recommend.

WE FOUND THIS DUDE LIVING IN OUR HOUSE.

We live bi-coastal. We hired Peter almost a year ago, for a basement project. He did a decent job, so when our tenants in the upstairs units needed minor work, it was easy to call Peter to handle a loose doorknob, etc. We keep the garden unit empty for our own stays back.

Fast forward, we land at JFK, go to the house and I CANNOT BELIEVE WHAT WE FIND.

We get to the house and this dude has his bedsheets on our usually bare bed. His slippers next to the bed. Our kitchenware as his ash tray. Rolled dollar bills with coke on it, condom wrappers, other garbage on the night stand. His boxers hung over the shower curtain to dry. Toothbrush, Ax body spray, etc in the bathroom. His dirty laundry in our basket. He had food and leftovers in the fridge, dirty dishes in the sink, garbage everywhere.  It smells like cigarettes, weed and BO. His iPad thrown across the bed like he pitched it there leaving home for work and bunch of his tools in the hallway by the front door. He went through our boxes and drank all our commemorative and vintage alcohol, that had been carefully packed away.

This m*****f****r is straight LIVING IN OUR HOUSE, USING IT AS A SEX AND DRUG DEN.

We immediately changed the locks.

PETER HAS THE AUDACITY TO TEXT ASKING IF EVERYTHING WAS OK.

He tried to come at us like WE KNEW AND HE WAS DOING US A FAVOR.

This dude is filth. Straight trash. He stole from us. He's a criminal. We couldn't even stay in our own home, we had to stay in a hotel. I'm terrified he will try to break in and cause further damage and trauma. We had to install a camera and check it frequently now for anything out of place.

Obviously. I do not recommend you hire him.

We are a physical therapy clinic and has 10 clinics, we needed a handyman ASAP one time and he is reliable and fast. Definitely recommend him as a handyman. We will be using A1 services going forward.

I needed a single 8-foot curtain rod installed in my apartment and sent out a request for a quote via Yelp.

Most handymen replied to me with a quote between $120-170, but I was shocked when Peter replied give me $400.

I'll admit that I cannot verify if his work is up to par, but the exorbitant quote was insane and I did end up choosing another service provider, who did a decent job.

Needed doorbell wired and installed -- Peter responded very quickly, did the job really well and was pleasant to interact with!! Highly recommended if you need any handyman work

A Leak showed up in the ceiling downstairs, we had no idea where it was coming from. Our insurance send another plumbing company who tried to make the issue bigger than it was to make a profit. They didn't even located the source of the leak.  The insurance company realized they were dishonest, denied their claim and called A1 construction instead. I was so happy with A1 construction. He was honest, professional, friendly and he knew what he was doing. He located the source of our leak and fixed the problem on the same day and in no time. Book A1 construction, you would not regret it.

Had an non-working outlet in apartment. Peter responded to my yelp inquiry, gave me a quote, picked up the parts, and fixed the issue all in about 4 hours total, for a reasonable price.

Would absolutely work with again!

Peter arrived promptly on Sunday with short notice and solved a perplexing behind the wall wide spread water leak right away. It appears experience does matter in this case. With tremendous patience and a big smile throughout, he searched for the unusual parts needed in various hardware stores, and moved multiple appliances to fix the broken part. There were times when he could have taken a short cut but he did not. We always appreciate a technician with a well appointed toolkit to help maximize the chances of getting the job done in one visit. The price he charged is fair for the amount of headache of this job. I would call Peter next time I have a problem again. Peter also has an edge over his peers because he appears to know a lot about carpentry and electronics. Many thanks for the good job.

Peter has been amazing to work with, he has always been quick to respond to any sport of request and emergency. As a building manager not based in the say state, it is priceless to have someone you can trust and will be there for you the best and earliest he can. No matter what project we have thrown big or small, he is always accommodating and goes above and beyond. Would recommend any day!

Showed up on time assessed the issue and made the repair VERY quickly. Afterwards he allowed me to make an assessment of the work and openly and honestly answered all my questions even advising me on things that could become problematic and WHY. Also very friendly and conscious of safety protocols, especially with COVID and OSHA.

Peter is that rare find who under promises and over delivers. He showed up, used good judgement and got a difficult job done, even though it required multiple visits. He was tidy, resourceful and I would highly recommend him for those jobs that are too big for yourself but not big enough for a major contractor.

We needed A-1 for emergency plumbing. Not only were they quick to respond they did an amazing job! I highly recommend them for any and all services! They are very reasonable price wise as well!

I called A1 construction one morning. The elctrician  was available few hours later. Once on site, he was able to identify the problem promptly. He fixed it. I found him knowledgeable, reliable, professional and honest. His fees are reasonable. I will contact him again.

I was looking for a handyman for one of my properties for a while , and finally find the right one. He resolved our issues with dishwasher and AC in a second.

Highly recommended !!

Peter was quick to respond and was able to come the same day we connected. I had a fairly simple issue with a lighting switch that he was able to quickly diagnose. Unfortunately one of the connectors was busted, so he came back the next day and finished work after I got the new piece, Great service, great guy.

Peter was really helpful in helping to install two Danfoss thermostatic radiator valves (TRV) in my apartment. He came by to make sure I ordered the correct valve and then installed the valve in two radiators later that week. Peter was friendly, flexible around my schedule and easy to coordinate with. I will definitely reach out to him for more help in the future!

We had a couple of faulty circuit breakers and a bathroom ventilation fan that stopped working, among other minor electrical issues. Peter responded quickly to our call to come check everything out, and returned a few days later to replace the circuit breakers and install a new bathroom fan. He worked quickly and efficiently and everything works perfectly now.

Peter is great.  We needed someone to run a 220 volt line to the outside of the building so we could install a split AC.  He did the job quickly, capably, and professionally.  And he was super conscientious, even being so kind as to take off his shoes inside the apartment.  

He's busy, so communication can be tricky at first, but once we looked things down, the job went quickly.  We'll definitely reach out to him again when we need some electrical work done.

Our circuit breaker kept tripping frequently and we needed our Ac's on as well as our other electrical appliances so it wasn't really an option turning certain things items off at a time. However, Peter came up with a simple solution and solved it really quick. There hasn't been a single problem since! I highly recommend him for any electrical problems.

Unreliable.  This guy gave us a bid to do some electrical work on a rental property in Brooklyn.  We got it approved by the property owner, and then he bailed.  Never responded to calls and emails.  Left us hanging with a bid that we had to honor.

We had an issue with our hot water boiler, Peter responded quickly on a Saturday and fixed it that day. He went the extra mile and went to Home Depot for the part we needed and came back quickly to finish the job. Would definitely call Peter again in a similar situation.

We had a live wire in our house that needed immediate attention and Peter was able to come by in just a few hours and repair what was needed to be fixed quickly and professionally. I called Peter on Thursday to ask for a quote to fix my buzzer, he never responded, so I called back the next day, at which time he said he might be able to stop by later that evening. I never heard from him, so I followed up on Monday, at which time he said he would be able to come by the next day at 9am.  

On Tuesday he shows up late at 10am, told me the buzzer would be $200 + parts to fix the buzzer. He removed my lock, and then left at 11am to take another job, told me he'd be back at 2pm, showed up at 5pm.

When it was done, he told me he was gonna charge me $400 instead of the $200 we agreed on because it was more work than he anticipated.

I explained to him that I do not conduct business in this manner, and would be paying him the agreed upon price. He was upset, and very unprofessional. I will not be using or recommending his services again.

The two stars are because after many inconveniences, and him disrespectfully trying to take advantage of me, he did in fact fix the buzzer.

I've used Peter twice now, and I've been very happy both times. He's quick to reply, communicative, and works efficiently as well. The last time I had him by I have a laundry list of stuff to be done, including lighting install and plaster work, that he finished in a few hours. And he knows what he's doing. The work isn't slapdash, nor does it look fine only to come apart the next day. He's reasonably priced, and honestly in my experience if anyone is cheap there's a reason for it. He's a trustworthy, skilled electrician and a great go to handyman for basics, in addition to being a totally nice guy. There are so many people out there who have no idea
What they're doing. He's the only number you need in your phone.

When I woke up this morning to half my house without electricity and no eat, I panicked. I was able to reach Peter by 7:45 this morning and within a few minutes of our phone call he was pretty sure it was a Con-Edison problem. Although he couldn't send someone out right away, he stayed in good contact with me throughout the morning and I was able to text him photos of the situation. He was right about the Con-Ed problem and it was resolved early this afternoon. So glad we were able to reach him and establish a relationship. I highly recommend him and will be reaching out to him for any further work we may need.

I have had the pleasure of working with Peter on numerous jobs and he has gone beyond my expectation. He is a professional to the core with a wealth of information. He is more than a handyman- he is an accomplished electrician, plumber and carpenter. I highly recommend Peter.

Peter is amazing!. I called him after 7pm on a holiday, and he came over within 45 minutes. He's very knowledgeable and fixed a problem with my toilet in no time. He also showed me what was wrong so I can fix it if it happens again. He's a very funny, capable guy, with fair pricing. If you need a plumber, this is not the company for you. Peter has some plumbing tools and may know some plumbing jargon, but a plumber he is NOT. Sadly, he won't tell you this and will waste your money and time by taking on a job he doesn't have the skill set to complete. I hired Peter to fix a leaking faucet and reattach/replace a tub spout/shower diverter. Peter did fix the leak, but the rest of the job involved extending a pipe to fit a new generic spout/diverter. No caulk. No glue. However Peter's $400 solution was to apply (and reapply) layers of caulk and glue to the existing pipe. Needless to say, after a week of repeated glue applications, I still wasn't able to use the shower (my original most pressing concern.) For the $400 spent all that I had to show for it was a leak repaired with some plumbing tape and remnants of caulk/glue now permanently stuck to my tub enamel. Save yourself the GRIEF and TRUST this review.

Woke up this morning to a big mess - water leaking from under the sink all over the floor. I found Peter here through Yelp. He asked for a photo of the problem, I texted it to him and he arrived at our place in Prospect Heights within the hour. He quickly assessed the problem and found the part to fix at a local store - saving time and not making a Home Depot run. He was fast, worked neatly and showed time the problem.

Tonight he even followed up to make sure the sink was working okay.

I have dreaded home repairs. In Brooklyn finding good service people is usually a nightmare. And as a new dad to a baby, we really needed the sink fixed fast. So glad we found Peter. Thanks again man.

I am so happy with their service. Not only did they take apart an antique armoire that couldn't fit thru my narrow stair case, but they also put it back together in a way that's very easy to take apart and move in the future.

Peter was great, worked efficiently.Great customer service in speaking with me and in owner of the building my condo is in, who happened to be around about why new parts were needed for the shower faucet.  He also answered my questions in diagnosing the problem.  He went above and beyond to go find and get new pieces and come back to finish the job.  Beautiful caulking work.  Also looked at kitchen sink and water pressure.

One star for at least answering the phone when initially called. But two subsequent confirmed times set to meet and they're a no show? Then don't bother to call before or after to explain or apologize? No way to run a business.

Peter is the best. I was building a recording studio and having trouble with the vocal booth being completely soundproof, after calling several contractors to take a look peter was the only one that knew the issue. Not only did he fix the issue he explained the process as he went along which gave me a better understanding about soundproofing. Peter is very professional, quick and has a great sense of humor. Peter and Derrick were awesome. I had leaks in my house due to pipes bursting from being frozen. They went above and beyond to find where all the underlying problems were and not only stop the leaks but had my boiler running great. The leaks were tricky to find and they explored all possibilities. They even stayed a bit extra to make sure my boiler stayed running and no other leaks surfaced. They were very professional and personable. They provided me a lot of tips and pointers. Highly recommend him.

Peter is a skilled craftsman who takes pride in his work. I had 2 other guys mess up an installation of my back exterior door and he came and fixed the problem in a day. It was a bit involved because the frame was ripped out and concrete rock wasn't even.  He's given me some good tips for other minors issues in the house as well. He's also put up dry wall for me a few years back when I was finishing my basement and the job was also done well. I would recommend him for a lot of projects around the house.

I needed a fast response to a problem with my dishwasher which had died. Before meeting Peter, a man of many talents from A1, I'd been told by another dishwasher repairman that there was nothing wrong with the appliance - the problem was electric (the wires leading down to our basement not giving any power to the appliance). I sought highly-rated electricians with quick response times. I called 4 - ONLY A1 (Peter) called me back, and he arrived in short order. He determined quickly that this was not an electrical problem. He turned to the dishwasher. Two connecting wires in the door opener had melted. He did a work-around, and my dishwasher sprung to life. It turns out they do still make 'em like they used to. I highly recommend him.

Peter helped me replace a broken plumbing fixture. He responded very quickly and was professional and kind. I would certainly recommend him to anyone looking for help with their plumbing systems. I'll be working with him again soon!

Peter is an excellent worker. Reliable, caring, and you won't have to repeat yourself because he listens and sees things that you may not have paid attention to. He also responds in a very timely manner, I sent pictures via text and he wrote back right away. I called Peter to fix my back door due to wind-blown water against a storm door leaking in. Peter came saw the issue and went to Home Depot to buy all I needed and brought back the receipt. He is still working on this and there is a special part I will have to order but I will provide an updated review soon. The suggestions that he offered are priceless. The backdoor also had an issue of being drafty and insects crawling in during the warm weather and I am now looking forward to leaving my main door open in the summer without anything crawling in and no more drafts. Next as soon as Peter walked in the door he heard my refrigerator make a gurgling sound. He mentioned there shouldn't be a noise like this coming from the fridge and asked if he could look at it. One click of a button and that was the most quiet my refrigerator has been since I moved in. He also hooked up my ice-maker and I now have crushed ice thanks to Peter. Peter brings a sense of calm and makes you feel at ease when he is working. He has several years of experience and it shows. His prices are very reasonable. Please do not hesitate to hire Peter because he will not stop working until your issue is resolved.

Peter is quick to respond, friendly, and won't stop working on a problem until it's solved. We used him to deal with a nasty bathroom plug and a broken sink fixture - he quickly saw the issue and put the sink back together much better than the previous configuration. Would recommend for any plumbing needs.

Pete was great.  Came by to fix a plumbing issue on a Sunday and arrived within an hour.  Everything is working fine now.

Let me get to the point: Peter answered my first call, arrived within 5 minutes, was finished with my job (replacing a flex hose for my gas-dryer) within 2.5 hours. Friendly, reliable, reasonably priced and totally legit. HIRE HIM!

Peter was very polite, professional and respectful. He was willing to work with me within the time frame that I informed him about. He stated that the information which I provided was complete enough for him to understand the job that I needed done. Although in Brooklyn, he did not shy away from wanting to do the job.
