I only had to replace one of my washer shutoff valves. Dan the Plumber showed up on time and was nice and courteous. When he looked at what I had, said it was a simple fix, and then proceeded to show me the price rating in his little book. $248 to replace washer shut off valves, and that was OVER AND ON TOP of the $68 service call. I asked if they priced the service call into the repairs, and he said no. He understood my hesitancy but he did not make up the pricing. I was still kind of floored, but with a dripping valve, what are you going to do? He replaced these $10 valves in about a half hour, and then he showed me the work, as well as the pressure on the line (80 psi). He said it was very high and that I should consider installing a pressure reducing valve. I swallowed a bit and asked him to humor me with a pricing for that. He told me something around $587 and I told him no thank you. I ain't no plumber. but I do know that valve runs around $100-$125. I have never heard of any repair shop or firm that would not include the pricing of the service call into work performed, but you live and you learn, and this was my learning, but I just want everyone to know that Burke Plumbing DOES NOT do fair valued work for a fair value price. They are VERY INCREDIBLY HIGH PRICED, and I certainly will not be calling them again for any work.
