This company is extremely expensive. They quoted me $2,600 for a cleaning of my boiler. Other places are charging 1/4 of that. I was crazy enough to put down a deposit for service they were going to do on Monday. I need to cancel that call and get my refund (which i'm doubting i'll get back).

I want to start by saying this review is not to say their work was not done correctly or they were rude. Their pricing policy and unethical answers left such a bad taste in my mouth.  I also want to add this was completely my choice to opt out of the service once they arrived and I decided top move forward. I wanted a toilet swapped out, no apparent plumbing problems but I live in a condo so worried about water leaking to other floors. I asked multiple times if there was a price range for this work, with the understanding that they don't know until they see it. I was told that the plumber would look at the job then give me a price. I could opt out but would pay the truck charge, which was right. When the plumber arrived, he gave me a price without looking at the new toilet or lifting the lid on the old toilet. It was $850! I said that seemed a little steep. He said that was their package price. I asked him, if there is a package price, why did the person on the phone say she did not know what the charge would be, that it depended on the job. He just said it is their policy to have set prices of reach job.  Again, why was that not mentioned when I asked 3 different times? AND yes, I did not have to agree to it. In the end I paid $790 for an hour's work and hauling away the old toilet. Even if we add an hour for travel it was $790 for  2 hours work. In hindsight, I should have passed but he was there. I used a $58 coupon so that helped. After, I kept thinking about it and called their customer care person. He asked if I had already paid; I said of course, I had. He said, oh, that is too bad, I could have talked to my manager and seen if there was any possibility of lowering the price. When I mentioned that I did not think that was a great response, that I knew they could issue a credit on my AmEx, he remained caring and respectful but clearly it was lip service. There  are hundreds of good and ethical plumbing services out there. I suggest you look elsewhere unless someone else is footing your bill.

I just read through these reviews and found one that said their one-star review keeps disappearing, so I looked for mine and it was gone too. I'm posting a summary of what I wrote about two years ago. I had a good experience with them on a first-time visit and signed up for their maintenance plan, which includes an annual check-up. At my first check-up I asked the tech to look at a toilet that seemed to be leaking. His diagnosis was that I needed a new toilet and gave me a written quote of about $725 to replace the faulty toilet with a comparable one. I decided to get a second opinion, which came from a sales guy in plumbing at Home Depot, who send me home with a $16 part that I could swap out myself. Lots of reports online here are very similar. My advice is to get a second opinion or don't go there the first time.  Buyer beware.

We called MSP to replace two freeze-proof faucets in our garage and two shut-off valves in the basement. The work was done properly, but they charged us over $1,300 for a job that took one plumber two hours to complete. MSP refuses to divulge parts or labor costs, but I determined that the parts cost no more than about $230, which means their effective hourly labor charge was more than $450/hour. When I questioned MSP about this, they told me that they need to charge that much in order to stay in business. They finally agreed to apply a 5% discount ($65).  If you're considering calling MSP, be sure to get at least one other estimate before proceeding.

Beware of price gouging here. They took advantage of my bad situation and charged me double any other plumber. When I asked why it was so much, I was told I could pay $88 for their 5 min visit and hire another plumber. I guess there is a reason they don't give free estimates here. I have asked 2 different people for an itemized bill and big surprise, nobody has called back or acknowledged me. $1,200 for a faucet replacement that took 2.5 hours!

I used MSP in St. Paul MN for the first and last time last week. I called because one bathroom sink faucet was not releasing hot water. The second faucet was working just fine. At first customer service was great -- very responsive, prompt and the plumber was nice. His solution was to replace the hot water shutoffs on both faucets. I wish I hadn't said yes, because now I have two faucets that aren't working. That cost me $419.70 -- this included a coupon and registration in a monthly service program. Not outrageous -- if the problem had actually been fixed.

He then suggested I change the cartridges in each faucet. He showed me how to do that on my own to save money. I did so, after running around to three plumbing stores to find them. They improved nothing.

I called back and the plumber came back a second day, requiring me to take even more time off of work. He checked the cartridges, said the installation was fine. But then his only solution to fix the faucets at that point was to entirely replace them. It would only cost another $500 to install the new faucets -- a discount, two-for-one price apparently -- plus the cost of the faucets. This is really frustrating since the faucets in question were installed brand new two years ago.

A call with the manager indicated an unwillingness to do anything but release me from the monthly service program and send the plumber out a third time. Getting out of the service program saves me a whole $8/month.

So all told, I'm in the hole $419, have more plumbing issues than I started with, and the only solution from MSP is to spend close to another $1,000 on the purchase and installation of new faucets.

Seems ridiculous to me. I know I won't be calling them back!

MSP was great to work with. Joshua A (installer) was here at 6:55a (5 min early) to get started on removal and installation of a new furnace. He was very friendly and upfront with what he was going to be doing. I was in and out while he was here and he was very accommodating with my questions and requests to call me if I were to be gone. He was there to help explain all the new bells and whistles, answering my questions on annual service and what did what on the new equipment.

Overall MSP was great. On Friday 11/20/15 I called them at 7a because they were the last company to service my unit. It was one of the first cold days of the season yet they were able to get out to my house just outside of the quoted time (12p-2p). The tech that came did a inspection and was there to explain everything in detail to me. He broke down repairs by immediate and coming soon. He was also helpful in his advice on what we should do given the circumstances. I opted to go for a replacement, His engineer was at my house right on time at 5:30pm on Friday. Don, was very nice and very helpful. He put up with my three little girls running around and asking him questions. He steered us in the right direction and I felt very taken care of.

In the end MSP did what they said they would. I only had to follow-up once on the initial appointment because it was within 30 min of the end of the window and I hadn't heard. However they were quick to tell me the situation and were actually to my house just shy of the original time. I am glad that they came through and got heat back in my house before too long. Also leaving behind space heaters was awesome, I was told We aren't going to leave you without heat and they didn't

Thank you MSP!

Extremely expensive.  Avoid these people like the plague.  I was told that my faucet was much more expensive than usual and working on claw foot tub was far more labor intensive.  He gave me a flat fee. I checked later on how much the faucet costs and figured out I was charged about $600 for 20 minutes work.  This comes out to $1800 an hour for labor.  I have called the company three times asking to talk to a manager, but no one calls me back.

I hired MSP Plumbing to put in a new furnace and forced air system in last fall.  The installers made two mistakes that resulted in technicians returning.  One was that the glue between the plastic pipes that bring air in and out failed and the second was that a joint was overtightened, resulting in a crack that led to a rust spot of 4 inches in diameter on the interior of my furnace.  Both mistakes were corrected without complaint.  However, the rust spot remains.  Both of these mistakes show careless workmanship that could easily have been avoided.

MSP has a subscription program that gives homeowners two free inspections annually: one of the furnace and air and the other of the water heater and plumbing.  The plumber came in a month ago and used very hard selling tactics.  First, he told me that I needed a water softener.  Then, following a water test that showed my water was not hard, he told me that I would be foolish if I didn't purchase a device to needed the  remove chlorine from my water.  The plumber pulled and shook my wall toilet as if he wanted to break it so that he would have something to fix.

The HVAC inspection was similar.  I was told that I surely needed one of several filtering systems added to my forced air or my fan system would fail.

If they come to my home again with such tactics, I will ask them to leave or call the police.  This is what the city recommends when salespeople use forceful sales tactics on vulnerable populations.  As a 50+ single woman, I am vulnerable.

Please save your time and money and do NOT hire these guys! They are such rip off! I had an issue with my AC and they came out to diagnose the problem and this guy came didn't even take out his tools to see what's wrong with it. He came down to say it's because of our furnace that's why. Didn't even tell us what the exact problem was and said he needed a replacement and not repair. He came down to say everything will cost me $4,500!!!!! WHAT THE FUCKKK!!? No freaken way was I gonna pay them shit! I called around and found another place that told me exactly what was wrong and I only had to pay $500! and now my AC is up and running! These guys here are a freaken rip off! But I'll say the customer service guy that picked up the phone was real nice.

Please do not use this company. Roy tried to sell unneeded repairs and used scare tactics to get as much money out of me as he could. He suggested a $3000 repair that involved tearing out a ceiling but another plumber solved my issue quickly for $500. Run, dont walk away from this company if you value your money. Shameful behavior.

St. Paul H&P came out and had a thorough look at our furnace.  Told us we'd need to spend about $6800 for a new one.  I was ready to sign on, but my wife said, Let's think about this.  We checked with Xcel Energy's Homesmart program and got the same furnace that was being pitched to us for $5000, plus a $400 rebate.  So shop around, and don't necessarily believe it when they tell you your furnace filter is bowed because you need new duct work or you probably should also replace your air conditioner.  Shop around kids, ok?

This place is laughable and the ultimate price gougers. They charged me $320 for a faucet, $543 for the labor, $220 for overhead costs and $120 for expected profit. No this is not a joke but my actual itemized bill. They did not provide it before doing the work obviously. I had to demand it to see where this amount came from. Total paid was $1207 to replace  a bathtub faucet. Avoid at all costs

My husband and I were in the market for a tankless water heater. Company's website says installation of all makes and models - total lie! They have ONE model, ONE! They wasted their time and mine by not being honest in their phone center. So disappointed.

-0- Stars!

First let me say that they were very nice, on the phone and in person. Based on what they charge, they should be.

When you need a plumber, I suggest that you use one that charges for time and materials. These folks charge a book price. Now, I was told what it would cost and I agreed - it was a bit of an emergency and I don't think I had many other options - I did try a few.

OK, 20-25 minutes, about $30-$40 in parts and done. Cost - over $450.

Now you can decide whether that is what you're looking for, but be sure to check them out on City Search and at the BBB site. You'll find plenty of people who have been taken by them, and they couldn't care less. Plenty more suckers out there and SPPH is laughing all the way to the bank. Unfortunately I didn't check thoroughly enough, so don't you or your family get taken - beware.

Generally when you pay someone to come out and provide an estimate, you expect that the amount of the estimate would be customary and reasonable.   That was not my experience with Minneapolis Saint Paul Plumbing, Heating, and Air.

I asked them to come out to hook up a dishwasher, connect the water supply for the ice maker in a refridgerator, and fix a leak under the sink.  I was told the trip charge would be $88 which would be credited to me if I proceeded with the work.

The plumber arrived on a time, took a quick look, and wrote up a quote. I was dumbfounded when I was given a quote for over $1500.   Feeling this was high, but not sure, I declined to proceed to and decided to get a second quote.

I found another plumber who did the work for $350 -- 1/3rd the price that MSP Plumbing wanted.  I emailed MSP Plumbing about the this, but never received a response.

It seems MSP Plumbing in more interested in making money by simply charging trip charges rather than providing an actual service.

Seriously over priced!
We needed to replace our water heater and online research prepared me to expect a quote of $800-$1200. These guys came out and quoted me $3100! Then, instead of explaining the breakdown of this cost, the technician immediately tried to sell me a membership. I said no thanks and called Center Point Energy and they replaced it for $1100.

HORRIBLE, I wish there was a 0 star. Heating system wasn't working. Their technician just came in with his Ipad, walked around the unit, opened the furnace door, glanced at it, touched two pipes, and quoted me for more than $1500 for the minimal repair (valve gas replacement), and told me that my heating unit was about to die and I might consider a new unit, (so about a $10 000 fix), this tech did not fix anything and browsed his I-pad during 15 minutes to write up his estimate. I was charged $88 for that. A waste of time! Someone said they just go around charging $88 and doing nothing, I believe it to be true, they carry an I-pad instead of a toolbox and they write estimates that are ridiculously high  and make intentional false estimates.

I wasn't sure and contacted my broker who gave me the contact information of a licensed insured technician.  The guy came in with a toolbox and was not afraid of laying on the floor of my unfinished basement to look at the heating unit. In about 30-45 minutes, he was able to clean up the unit, taught me how to bleed a system. The heating unit was back to normal and working!!!!! AND I was charged $250. There are still honest people in this world, but MSP plumbing heating air staffs definitely do not know what honestly is and work ethic is certainly a foreign concept to them.

This is a shame, MSP plumbing and heating are charlatans, such a company has not right to do business, I am filling a complaint to the BBB.

This company contacted my elderly mother-in-law to offer a free furnace inspection.  Although she explained that her furnace had just been inspected in October, they convinced her to let them come anyway, after all, it was free.  Their employee, Tom, came over late on the last Friday of January, tore her furnace apart, and explained that he could not put it back together, or turn it on, as the reading he got was a dangerous amount of carbon monoxide.  After scaring her, offering her three options ranging from a $2000 repair (with only a 30 day warranty ?) to a new furnace at $7250.  She agreed to purchase the new furnace, as she was confused, scared and pressured into it.  Tom left her with 4 small space heaters to heat her home for the entire weekend.  She called us as soon as he left to explain what happened, and by Saturday morning when she called the bank to cancel the transaction the funds were already taken from her account.
I contacted the company at immediately Monday morning and asked for someone to come and put her furnace back together and to cancel her purchase.  A service manager, along with another tech, came to her house and asked why we would want them to do that.  After all, her furnace was leaking a dangerous amount of carbon monoxide.  We explained that, even if this was true, her current furnace was only 8 years old, and under a 10 year warranty with another company.  We would A. Go through them.  B. Would never purchase from them, because of the way they treated our mom. C. They left their stickers all over everything in her basement.  We also asked them to repeat the test, so that we could see the reading for ourselves.  After they put the furnace back together (had to go buy some missing screws too), they ran the test several times, and NEVER repeated the high test results.  As the supervisor was challenging the reading, and explaining to my husband how it had to be accurate, and read aloud the results from the printed slip, he stated the date of the test.  This test had been done 2 days prior to coming to her house!  This was NOT from her furnace!!!!  Some fast talking happened, and they left rather quickly, agreeing to refund her money.
It took over 2 weeks to get the refund.  This only happened after I reached out to Andy Ryan, the president of the company.  Amazingly, the funds were replaced in her account the next day.
Do NOT trust this company.  Ever.

We had an offset pipe at the end of our driveway causing a sewer backup into our house.  Mpls St Paul Heating-Plumbing-Air was called when the backup was first noticed.  They snaked the drain from the house charging us $300.00.  The next day (Christmas Eve) the drain backed up with sewer water all over our newly installed carpet (3 days old).
Mpls St Paul Heating-Plumbing-Air came again without charge to run a snake then charged us to put a camera down the drain from our house under the driveway.  They couldn't figure out what was causing the backup.  There were not tree roots or other obstructions in the pipes.  They charged us $5500.00 to rip up a large portion of our driveway excavate a hole and replace a pipe.  The man replacing the pipe told the owner that he didn't see a problem with the existing pipe.  They put in 2 drain outs and filled the whole.  The owner replaced the driveway at their own expense.
A month later the sewer backed up again and water was flowing out of the drain outs.  Mpls St Paul Heating-Plumbing-Air was called and came to flush out the pipes.  This was not successful.  They said they needed to dig another large area into the driveway to try to figure what was happening at a discounted price of $5000.00.
The owner showed the initial video from the camera of Mpls St Paul Heating-Plumbing-Air to another drain and sewer company.  That company quickly diagnosed an offset pipe at the end of the driveway.  They quoted $3500.00 to excavate the driveway and replace and fix the pipes.  Their work was complete, and the blockage is solved.  The owner had to repair the new driveway.
After many phone calls to Mpls St Paul Heating-Plumbing-Air, the owners requested someone come to speak with them about the unnecessary and unsuccessful work done by Mpls St Paul Heating-Plumbing-Air.  A company representative came to the residence without a file or knowledge of the work done. He took notes of the owner's account/timeline of the attempted repair/solution.   He assured the owner he would investigate and respond in 24 hours.  The owner followed up many times, but the company has never responded.  The owner is out over $5500.00 to Mpls St Paul Heating-Plumbing-Air plus the cost of replacing the driveway twice for an unresolved sewer backup.
Call someone who knows what they are doing for sewer work.  Marvel Sewer and Drain not only had a more reasonable charge they solved the problem for us.

I had a hunch something was wrong with my boiler so I called MSPPHA, they came out and tested the boiler and it showed that I was leaking CO into the house, so they red tagged it (its over 55 years old so it was time to replace it)
Their customer service for that call was Amazing, what happens next is why I will never use this company.

Right after I got RED TAGED they call in a sales man and he comes to your house, starts looking at everything and they talk to you about the options, and prices, after you get the sticker shock they go, the good news is they can be there in 2 business days so you can have heat, they do this to hurry up the sale so you don't go get another quote to see how expensive they are.

I was quoted 4 different prices based on the efficiency
80% efficiency = 13,000
82% efficiency = 14,500
85% efficiency = 15,00
95% efficiency = 19,000

These numbers that they gave me are 2-3 times as much as anyone else that quoted me

Be smart... get a few quotes!

I've used Mpls/St. Paul Plumbing for many years.  Today we needed a circulating pump replaced on our heating system.  Jeremy P. arrived earlier than the scheduled time, quickly diagnosed the problem, offered six different repair options for us to choose from, and made no attempt to try to steer us to the more expensive ones.  Once we chose an option, he set to work and finished the repair in short order.  Throughout he was pleasant, professional, and very easy to work with and have in the house.  These repairs are not cheap by any means, but the work was of excellent quality performed by a skilled technician, and we're very pleased with the results.  Recommended.

Decide business with your feet and RUN!

They are overpriced and don't even bother to accurately diagnose the problem before charging you. I was charged $350 for a thermostat which goes for $22 at Home Depot. That's right and not an exaggeration: over a 10x mark up! They charged me $100 for literally 5 minutes of labor (thats as much a brain surgeon makes per minute).

Be mindful of anything you agree to, despite my thermostat only being plugged in for 5 minutes they would not refund anything or allow any returns. If you dare and do business with them there is also a $69 service call fee to come see you. The best way to describe dealing with them is feeling violated and robbed.

Do not use this company!  They are a fraud!

In January 2015 one of their technicians (Brian A.) tried to convince me our 7 year old furnace needed major repairs while conducting a routine inspection and service.  He even went as far as putting a red tag on the fuel line valve and insisting he was required by law to shutoff the gas feed.  The quoted cost for the recommended repairs?  Over $5000!  And that wasn't for a new furnace, that was just for repairs!

Since our furnace had zero issues prior (and $5k is a ridiculous quote) I suspected a scam and immediately had another company (this one recommended by several neighbors) come out and do another inspection.  The second company found the furnace to be in excellent working order and requiring no additional repairs.  They even suggested skipping annual inspections in favor of every other year -- the furnace was working that well and a reliable model overall.

I called and emailed the company office asking to have the issue raised to management but each time they only said they would send out the same technician to discuss.  I suspect this is not a case of just one scammer technician but rather a systemic problem throughout the entire company.

As others have written, caveat emptor.  Avoid this company.  There are plenty of other heating and plumbing providers with honest business practices.

Unprofessional Company!
I contacted MSP 3 weeks ago to schedule an A/C tune up for $49.00 advertised price. They then said they were 3 weeks out on appointments. So, since our A/C was working & just needed its regular tune up, I scheduled for 3 weeks, which was today between noon & 4p. I took the day off to be home.
They just called me 9:45a & told me their guy would be busy doing repairs all day & needed to reschedule to the 15th (2 weeks from now). I told them I took the day off, but that didn't seem to bother them--they still wanted to reschedule 2 weeks out. I canceled & hung up.
Don't bother with this company. They have no respect for customers. We'll be getting our tune up from a company slightly more expensive ($20) but much more reputable and respectful to customers.

Josh H came out and I was pleased with the service.  Although  at first I was a little annoyed as I was told  that I would get a half hour heads up before my tech arrived (it was more like 10 minutes) but I was not home yet, as I thought I would have more time to get home and he was okay with it so it was fine.  I just didn't want them to have to wait for me, but he was okay with it and started to look around before I arrived.

He listened to my problems on my system, answered other questions I had and made recommendations.  I liked that he wasn't trying to do a rush job he took his time and double checked things. I joined the total care club, which seems too good to be true for the price and services that are included--but we shall see.  Hopefully it is as they say it is and just a great deal that they offer.

I requested a visit to fix my AC. I stated that I would like it repaired to last the summer as I will be replacing the furnace and ac soon.  I knew it was low on refrigerant.  The first estimate was for over $4000 to fix the unit.  Gee that's the cost of a new unit.  Without sizing the house he then popped up a $14000 estimate to replace the AC and Furnace.  I called Bloomington Plumbing and Heating and they refilled for $355.  Guess who I am getting estimates from for replacement.

I have a dripping tub faucet so I wanted someone to come out and do a quick repair. I looked on youtube and the repair seemed simple and quick so I expected a quick and easy fix. When dealing with plumbing I typically defer to the experts so I called MSP after meeting some of their team at Grand Old Day. The scheduling team is very friendly and accommodating. They set me up with an appointment the next morning and Tom M. arrived promptly and was very friendly. The estimate to repair the leak was $522. I was dumbfounded. The parts would have been max $30-40. The labor would have been max 1 hour. I could not make that math work in my head so I kindly paid the $88 service fee and asked the tech to leave. I took time off of work and spent $88 to have my intelligence insulted. It is very simple to me. I will never use or recommend this company to anyone ever, period.

We responded to a coupon they had for tuning up our water heater for an attractive price.  But after the tune-up, the service man wanted to meet in person to give us his recommendations.  Since my schedule was/is busy, I asked him to send his recommendations by email, especially knowing that insisting on meeting in person is a trick salesmen use to boost their sales.  This tune-up visit was over a month ago and we haven't heard from them since.  I guess the customer doesn't mean much to this company.

These people are scam artists.

I had been told by a few service people over the past few years that my furnace was on its last year or so.  I called this company for an estimate.  Imagine my surprise when the technician who came out said the furnace looked to be in great condition and didn't appear to need replacement.  The furnace is 26 years old.  He told me that Just to be sure he would send out a technicianat absolutely no cost to me to double check the furnace the next day.  (red flag #1)

That technician looked at the furnace and told me the furnace  was not repairable and that it was leaking carbon monoxide into the house.  I asked if a carbon monoxide detector would register this and he said no, because it goes up through the vents directly into the house. (red flag #2).

He didn't tag the furnace as dangerous. (red flag #3)

He then looked at the air conditioner could probably make it several more years (also 26 yrs old).  (red flag #4) He recommended a series of options ranging form $600 to $2000 to get the air conditioner working great.  The first technician had arrived back at my house by this time (presumably to close the deal on a new furnace). (red flag #5) I couldn't spend an additional hour listening to the options he was going to present so I made another appointment for another day.  Like a complete fool I selected the $600 option for the air conditioner repair.  The technician went back to the air conditioner and came back out front in less than 5 minutes claiming to have sprayed something into some tube to clear the gunk out and get it working properly.  I asked him what spray could be worth $600 and he pulled out a small can of something.  I regret not asking him if I could keep the empty can.  He sent me a receipt for the $600.  The service was listed as Rejuvenation Serum.  Not kidding!

Please don't get sucked in by these people like I did.

Brutal, brutal, brutal. Way over priced. Like the previous review my bill was $1100 for 45 minutes of work and parts of $30.00. Go anywhere but to these guys

Honestly, I just came here to see if other's had overpaid for plumbing work and, man, these reviews really struck a chord.

I had a small gas leak on my stove. When my stove was being red tagged, the gas leak finder guy (not from MSPPHA) told me this would be a 30 minute job and would cost about $100, mostly for labor. MSPPHA plumber came out today and within a minute of looking at the stove quoted me $540  He noticed the shock on my face and said, you weren't expecting that, huh?. We went back and forth a bit to find another project quote that would be more affordable, going down to $350 and finally landing on $290 as a last resort. Anything involving gas is tricky work, I was told.

Anyways, he went to work and was finished in about 25 minutes which was great. After flipping the gas back on and letting it go for a few mins (MSPPHA plumber had already left), the leak seems to be the same (small, but still noticeable) and the problem doesn't seem to have been fixed. It's possible the leak is coming elsewhere, but I'd hope the plumber would have been able to diagnose and test a bit more after installing the new fitting. I'll definitely be looking elsewhere next time I need work done.

Pros: Super nice plumber (Tom M.), great scheduling service, professional appearance, willing to drop price with a surprised look

Cons: Ridiculously expensive, problem not fixed

Ridiculously expensive.

Approximately $1150 to replace two valves to my kitchen sink, and install a faucet that I already bought!

I found an independent master plumber an hour later that did both for $120, including parts.

The service technicians and installers have been great.  The service schedulers have failed two times in a row.  I have been spending thousands of dollars on each service.  The first time they called the night before to say someone would be out the next day, but had NEVER called to see if I could be available that day.  They scheduled it with THEM, not with me.  So I made it very clear when I was getting another service that I wanted a call the night before.  NOTHING.  NOTHING in the  morning.  I called, and after six minutes on hold was instructed to leave a message.  I did.  NO CALL BACK.  I called about a half hour later, and spoke with someone.  Yes, I am on the schedule for the day.  NO explanation as to why my very clear request for respect was not honored.  The good will their service and installation people build is destroyed by the lousy service department.

This company was very polite and set up an appointment right away. However, they wanted over 1300 dollars to put in a standard kitchen sink. Not redo any plumbing associated with the sink, just to pop it into the spot where the old one was. When we balked at the price, the plumber said, Well, it's a two hour job. That seems unlikely, and even if that were the case, paying 650 dollars an hour to replace a standard sink seems outrageous. I called to complain, they said they'd call me back. Never heard from them again. Don't waste your time.

BEWARE!!

USE CENTERPOINT ENERGY!!!!!

I just had my furnace maintenance yesterday by Drew and went downstairs today to see for myself what was done.  I have to say I am truly disappointed.

These are some of the things I found:

**The top of the furnace compartment exterior was dirty and the checklist was checked off as           being cleaned.

**The top of the water heater was dirty and was checked off as being cleaned.

**The top of the water softener, which I have, was dirty and was checked off as being cleaned.

**The checklist has the filter was to be changed if the customer has one, but was never asked if I had one to be replaced.

**The old filter was put back in and now the electric filter system is not working.

**Drew said that he had pulled out my motor to find red oil, but I see on the checklist the technician is NOT supposed to pull out the motor.  He said this is a sign that it's like a car running if their is no oil in it....it won't!

**The water heater temperature was turned up by Drew without asking me or informing me.  I have had it at a cooler setting for the last 5 years since I moved in and when I got into the shower this morning it was EXTREMELY hot!  I looked at the temperature gauge to see it was turned beyond where I always have it set.

At the end of the service Drew presented me with a long list of options for repair.  The repair options involved replacing the motor and ignition, etc.  He used the scare tactic of , I am not sure when these things might go, but you would not have heat when they do.

He then added some other services that he told me that I needed.  The classic scare tactic is that he had 5 laundry vent fires in his association where he lives this last year, so he recommended that to be cleaned yearly. Really....5 dryer vent fires?

He then informed me that my home water humidifier was not working and gave me prices to fix it.  I was watching the news this morning to hear that the humidity level was 54 and when he turned up my humidifier to 45 ( the max level ) it would not kick in since it was not beyond the level of the air.  If I would have listened to him I would have spent money on something that may be perfectly fine!  I would expect a furnace expert to know that.

He finally said that the last option would be to get an entire new system.

I am so truly disappointed and in shock of this type of service.  I had Centerpoint come out on 2/15/15 to service my furnace and the person asked if I wanted to watch, he ran his electronic tests, and pulled out a vacuum and cleaned inside and out of the furnace.   He gave me the energy efficiency rating and told me that it will be good until 2/15/16.  He did not do ANY of this scare tactics to upsell.

After inspecting things on the checklist I truly wonder what was actually done.  I feel like the entire time downstairs was spent thinking of services to get me to buy and to create these stories to scare me to buy.  I saw when he filed my long list of repairs in his folder, that his previous customer had a lengthy list of repairs similar to mine.  I found that to be very unusual as well.

I cannot say again how disappointed I am.

Do not use them. They ripped us off. $1,700 just to install a water heater?!? And they wouldn't quote us a price until they started the work, so we had no idea it would be so much. They were rude, 1 guy just walked into our house without even introducing himself! Would NOT use them again & wouldn't recommend to anyone.

ZERO STARS! Yelp would not let me select that.

They are worst ever. Don't call because this is highway robbery. They wanted to charge me nearly $1000 for a 45 minute job and parts under $20.

I refused to pay the the $69 destination fee for coming, so not sure if they accept credit cards...

Beware, we had a person from this company who is sub contracted by Mpls STP heating and plumbing to clean our sewer drains from our main line to the street. It was just to be a routine maintenance that we have done every 2 years or so because of a sewer back up about 10 years ago due to root build up. The tech came with his machine and was only able to advance the sewer snake machine only about 23 feet into our main line. He then told me we most likely have a broken pipe from the way his machine sounded when he was drilling and the blade was smooth instead of having teeth after he removed the snake from the drain. (I did not see the blade prior to insertion in the drain). The tech then told me since he was unable to advance the snake any further that it was mostly caused by a broken drain pipe. He then suggested a camera to be inserted into the line to find out what the problem could be. He didn't have a sewer camera because his got stolen out of his unmarked plain white van. (Unmarked service van usually means sub contracted). This was all on a friday. He then called and arranged another sub contracted tech (unmarked white van) to bring a camera in Mon morning at 8:00 am, to see if there is a broken pipe or severe root build up. That tech showed up at 9 am with the camera and said the pipe was either broken or roots were so bad that he recommended to have our front yard dug up to either replace the sewer pipe or have the roots blown out with 4000 psi pressure drain cleaner. They would also install an outside sewer drain to access the pipe outside of our home.  While watching the camera being snaked along the pipe, I couldn't tell if the pipe was broken, although I did see what appeared to be roots but the roots did not block the entire pipe. He then wanted to set up the front yard dig to repair or replace our sewer drain the next day at a cost of $5500!!! I then said for that kind of money I would need to get a second opinion. I did have to pay him $340 to have my drain cleaned which they really did not do. To finish this review we called a second company who came out with a marked van with the company logo and they were able to advance the sewer snake to the main line in the street. They also pulled out a good amount of roots. He then advanced a camera and showed us the pictures of a clean and in good condition sewer pipe. So please be careful with this company. I wonder how many other people get the same diagnosis of their pipes and fall for  expensive repairs that may not be needed. My husband spoke to the company and they said we would get a refund. I feel that won't happen. I just hope they don't practice this probable scam of expensive repairs with other trusting customers.

Had MSPPH come out for a furnace/AC check up.  Very nice and professional technician arrived.  Was told my flame sensor on furnace and capacitor on AC were going bad.  I decided to fix them and was quoted $598 for both parts installed!!  Got a few discounts with some coupons and service plan (about $20/month) I had signed up for a week earlier when they installed a  40 gallon water heater for $1600.   So, the total came up to $461.  Much of this was my fault for not doing my homework BEFORE buying.  Found out that both parts cost less than $50!  And, 2 other companies would have done it for hundreds less. Flame sensor could have been cleaned with steel wool from what I've heard/read.   Worst of all, I already had Home
Smart coverage by Xcel and realized, after the fact, that I could have had both jobs done for FREE  with my monthly plan that I only pay $15/month.  MSPPH Gold Service Plan sounds good to sign up for, but with their extremely high prices on parts/labor (although you never see a breakdown on these costs), believe me, you're paying for it.  If you want a great service plan, go with HomeSmart.   It's worth every penny.

I am calling a few places today to see about getting my exterior faucet replaced.  I just got off the phone with these people and will not be hiring them - that's for sure.  Totally rude on the phone.  I just wanted to see ballpark it might be since it was a simple project.  It would cost $88 to have someone take a look at what might be a $200 job.  They could be twice as much as the other guys but I'd be $88 bucks in.  They gave me a bunch a lines about not having access to pricing.  Give me a break.  At least be honest and tell me that is not the way they opperate not that they dont have the information.  If they are willing to lie about that... hmmm.  No thanks.

MSP did an exceptional job when our furnace went out over a weekend. In 2 days they came out to find the problem, when it needed to be replaced they had their people out the next day (a Sunday) you go through estimates (they gave the most comprehensive estimates of 5 companies), and had a new furnace installed the following day. Both Mike and Nick were efficient and explained everything as they went. I highly recommend MSP!

Had MSP out for some very basic work.  Prices were outrageously high.  Wanted $570 just to put in simple bathroom faucet.  I told tech I would not pay it and sent him away.  Went online and got good prompt service from another company.  Faucet installed perfectly for $156.
Would not recommend!!

I called Minneapolis Saint Paul Plumbing Heating Air to get an estimate for a new closet bend pipe for our toilet (pipe that connects the toilet to the sewer stack). The pipe was over 100 years old (original cast iron) and had corroded to the point where it was leaking to the ceiling below.

The call center operator was friendly and got a plumber out to our house quickly. He looked at the issue and wrote up an estimate which was ASTRONOMICAL. He wanted to charge us $1800 if everything went smoothly with the pipe fix and $2800 if there were any issues. He said the job should take 4-8 hours, which by my calculation makes his hourly rate somewhere between $450 - $700. Even though we were without a toilet, we opted to get a second opinion.

We ended up going with Norblom Plumbing, who charged us under $500 for the pipe fix and a sink snake.

I would NOT recommend Minneapolis Saint Paul Plumbing Heating Air unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket.

Beware of over-pricing with this company!

The service tech came out and he was very friendly and nice. We had a bathroom sink faucet break-off (at the wall) and some leaking off the water main line.  I wanted to talk about different options, but was totally over-sold on other things.  There were 5 options given, the top option was over $8,000 (to re-pipe the whole plumbing) and the lowest bid for just basic work to fix the faucet was $2,400. -- over-priced for what was needed.  I ended up calling another plumbing company and they came out the next day  and fixed everything for under $1,000 and in/out in 2 hours - and I got more done than I expected.
So, buyer beware of over-charging for the work that may or may not be needed.  They have nice trucks and nice friendly workers, but totally wanted to over-charge me for the work I needed to get done.

It makes me sad to say, as I really wanted to use this company, but I won't trust them anymore for what is needed and what things really costs or what actually needs to be done to fix the problem.

Not impressed.   The person who took my phone call was nice and informative. I told him i Ihought it was a main line problem coming into the house due to our low water pressure and the sink hole in my front yard.  the guy said they could help.   the two plumbers who showed up came with an iPad.  one guy asked, so what are we here for?  I assumed they would have a work order or some form of communication from the person who took my appointment.   wrong. my wife told them we have low water pressure amd a sink hole in the front yard.  she also called me at work. she put him on the phone with me.  I explained the problem (again) and he said maybe it was best we rescheduled so both decision makers could be home.  I told him to diagnose the problem and call me with recommendations.   he said he was just trying to give me the best customer service possible.   they wandered around my house for a short time to tell my wife they couldn't help because it was a main line problem and they weren't licensed for that. the guy who took our appointment left me with impression they could. my wife was a little angry after the plumber and his shadow told her maybe we should explain this to your husband  they also said 6+ times, were just trying to give you the best customer service possible.  They didnt call me and my wife paid the $88  diagnosis fee just so they'd leave.   my wife felt patronized by the plumbers and felt like we were overcharged for what little these two did.  we are not apposed to paying for service and someones time, but these two guys gave us neither good service nor valuable time.  I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody if this is the normal protocol there.  I asked them to quote me on some air conditioning services as well, but now I am second guessing that idea.

This company over charges by thousands of dollars.  They will also tell you $$ work needs to be done and it doesn't.  I had an estimate from MSP for $10,000 for a sewer liner and had it done by another company for $6300.  I called about a drain smell and they told me to clear it would be $650 another company asked more questions and told me I would need to run water into the tub I wasn't using because water dries up in the trap and it will smell.  Running water in the tub every so often fixed the problem, without the $650 charge to have the drain cleared that didn't need to be cleared. They will talk you into doing a monthly automatic withdrawal fee in order for them to come out to fix things when needed, but then when they come out they just tell you how much it will cost to have something fixed. You are just not charged for the trip out.  When I told them to take me off the automatic withdrawal they continued to withdraw $ and it became a huge hassle to get stop it.

Needed a water heater replaced, called MSP P&H as their facebook reviews were pretty good. I am now guessing they filter out bad reviews on their own website and the facebook reviews/ratings are puffed up since they are not anonymous.

Good: They were available to come out on short notice
Bad: Pricing is outrageous and dishonest salesmanship is something you will have to deal with. He recommended a quite expensive heavy duty model for my modest home, it was a Rheem heater. They are high quality and more expensive - TRUE, but there are many other heaters out there that are solid products that don't cost as much, so I inquired about other brands as the cost was significantly more than I was looking to pay. He responded with, We only deal with the highest quality products - Rheem, we don't bother with low quality installs.
My water heater was broken, and he took advantage with this bogus line and I ended up paying over $2500 for a water heater you can buy at Home Depot for $800 - with less than 2 hours of labor.

Additionally, there is a manufacturer warranty on the water heater, but the model # and picture of heater that he put on the invoice was of a completely different brand/model than what was installed. I called them (twice) to get a corrected document sent out to me no call back after they said they would look into it. Pretty much no warranty if there is no record of it being installed.

From their website on the care they take with each customer:

Our plumber will take into account your family's budget and heating needs, so we can provide you with the best water heater recommendations for your home. We'll provide honest, upfront pricing on all of your installation options. Once you make your decision, you'll sign off on the final price--no surprise bills later!

Before MSP came out we had several bad experiences with companies that worked with our boiler: companies that charge 100 bucks for servicing/inspection but do nothing, a company that improperly installed venting, etc.  After the latter, our boiler ended up getting red-tagged.

We called MSP and they were able to come out the next day, and this was mid-December.  They came, completely reconfigured our boiler, put a new expansion tank on and fixed the terminal venting.  Before this our boiler was loud, very unhealthy sounding, cycled on and off constantly, and the second floor of our house had poor, inconsistent heating.  Now our boiler/radiators are quiet, every radiator heats up and the system works great.

We can't thank MSP enough for giving us this peace of mind and doing such a professional job on short notice.

Extortionist, Criminal, Outrageous, will attempt to steal you blind, but with a smile. I could not find a number for the plumber I used to hire. On a regular workday, I needed a simple replacement of a shower fixture in an open wall, with no rush. I had already purchased the replacement faucet handle and just needed the installation. This is less than 30 minutes of work. I called SPP&H to come out. With a service call they gave me 6 quotations, from $1100 to over $1800. No, I am not making this up!!! The service fee of $88 should have almost paid for the reasonable, and industry standard, charge for the replacement. This company apparently makes its money by extorting people who do not know any better.

We have a two-year plan with them and the service initially met expectations about a year ago.  We recently sold our house and had someone out to look at something the buyer wanted investigated.  It was relatively minor and rather than give an objective, professional opinion he tried to sell us over $1000 of repairs and on top of it tried to use fear to tell us that the furnace in the house we were buying should be replaced with a new one without even  looking at it!!!!  He definitely tried to take advantage of us during a stressful period.  We asked to have someone else look at it and he was great.  He explained that the repair wasn't needed but might be in 5-10 years and gave us a true professional opinion.  We just had one of their plumbers out today in the new house since we still have the plan and live in the service area and he wanted to charge us over $200 to de-clog a sink and he smelled like cigarette smoke so much that our bathroom still smells like cigarettes two hours later!!!!! Ridiculously inconsistent and we don't plan to do business with them again after the two years are up.

I scheduled a heating '21 Point Tune-up' appointment with MSPPHA after receiving a coupon in the mail.
Their calendar was out about a month. Their phone rep called the night before the appointment at 10:10pm to verify the address. Then, at 10am, they called to reschedule the appointment. Two weeks later, I have my rescheduled appointment for which the call at 8:30 the night before to confirm. At 8:10 this morning, I received another call to reschedule for one week at 8am.
Frustrated about planning my day around this appointment for the third time, I look to Yelp for feedback (a little late in my plight) and see what lays ahead... extortion and poor recommendations.
I'll update with my experience after my appointment.

I have had MSP out for a couple different reasons in the last couple years, both attributed to heating and air issues. We were quoted fair prices and provided options. Joe K did a phenomenal job with our AC repair this week, extremely knowledgeable. I won't call anyone else for these types of needs in the future, MSP and Joe have earned my family's business.

In December 2009, I contacted Minneapolis Saint Paul Plumbing when the spray hose on my kitchen sink began leaking. I was informed that there was a fee of $68.50 for a plumber to come out and assess the situation, and that if I chose to have repairs done, this fee would be deducted from the cost of the repairs.

One of their plumbers (Tony) came out the next day. He unscrewed the top of my spray hose and examined it for approximately 90 seconds. He then sat down, flipped through some papers he had brought with him, and after about 5 more minutes presented me with an estimate for repairs.

The estimate contained two options. The first option was to replace the spray hose apparatus. The estimated cost for parts and labor was $450. The plumber told me, however, that I should think about replacing the entire faucet. The estimated cost for this was approximately $850. I was suspicious of both of these estimates, and so I opted not to have the repairs done.

I then contacted friends and colleagues to get recommendations for other plumbers in the area. I phoned several of these. Each of these other plumbers told me that my problem could be fixed at best with a $0.05 o-ring, and at worst with a $12 replacement spray head. Each one told me that while they could come fix the problem for me, it would be a waste of my money since any homeowner would be capable of fixing this simple problem.

Appalled by the difference between $0.05 and the $850 that the Minneapolis Saint Pal Plumbing wanted me to spend, I called Minneapolis Saint Paul Plumbing, explained to the dispatcher what had happened, and requested my $68.50 fee back. My reason for requesting the fee back was that it was meant to be the cost for the plumber's assessment, but I was given a faulty (and in my opinion, dishonest) assessment. A manager reviewed my case and the next day called me back to inform me that my $68.50 would not be refunded.

In short: stay away. Scam artists.

Have you ever awakened on an icy Minnesota morning to the realization that your furnace has gone out overnight?  Well that was me about 2 weeks back.  It was 60 degrees inside, no wonder I did not want to climb out of bed.  To add insult to injury, this was the third time in as many days.  The first 2 days when I checked the boiler, the pressure was a bit low, so I added water and reset.  That morning, the pressure was fine, but it took several tries to restart.  So I called MSP and explained my problem.  Within 2 hours I had been contacted by dispatch and in another 2 the promised technician was standing at my door.  He put booties on right as he entered to avoid tracking muck in the house and got right to work.  After about 30 minutes of testing, he came up and explained that the safety sensor on the ignition module was dirty.  He offered the option of just cleaning it or replacing it.  Given the age of the boiler, I opted for the latter.  So he gave us a quick complementary clean to hold us over, contacted the central office to order the part, and scheduled a time that is convenient to come back and install the new part before the end of the week.

So now you are probably asking why not 5 stars?  Well unfortunately no one showed up or called during the window of time when they were supposed to be back to install the part.  We did reach out and learned that the part had not been delivered.  We were then promised that someone would be out this past Monday to install.  No one showed and when I called their phone rang about 25 times with no answer.  I called again on Tuesday and the tech called me back to say the part still had not arrived, but that the supplier promised it for Wednesday.

On Wednesday the tech returned and installed the replacement part.  The system has not skipped a beat since.  So all's well that ends well.

This has been the worst experience I've had with any service provider; and as the manager of 35 houses, that's saying a lot. As soon as the technician arrived, I was interrogated with inappropriate questions and comments.

Among them, this nugget:
MSP Heating: So, what are we trying to achieve today?
Me: Get the heat back on
MSP Heating: We are looking to build a long-term relationship with our customers. I see you've used a competitor on this furnace. Are you looking to build a long-term relationship with us?
Me: Sure...if things go well today.

I knew this was going to be a difficult evening, but nothing prepared me for what happened next.
Before that, a little background on the circumstances of this job. The heat had gone out a week before and the pipes had frozen and burst. Because the house was vacant, water had gushed out the pipe for a week before we found it, causing significant water damage to the main level and basement. A cleanup crew was there tearing out walls and we desperately needed the heat back on to dry out the house and prevent the pipes from freezing. The indoor temperature was in the 30s. MSP Heating was aware of all this.

I was then asked whether this was a rental. I said it was. He then went on to say that because it was, he would not be able to work on the furnace because of new company policy. He then went on with spiel on how tenants do not take care of furnaces and how landlords are terrible to deal with. I told him that I had waited 3 hours for him to come, and being 4pm, it would be too late to get someone else out that day. This would mean that we would have no heat for another night, delaying the disaster recovery process and risking the pipes freezing again. But he was adamant; I can't help you.

He went on to say that landlords are too focused on price, how quick technicians can get out, and getting things fixed. Incredulous, I asked him what do home-owners look for if not those things? Quality was the answer. In my years of flipping and managing houses and dealing with hundreds of different providers, I have never been as disappointed and upset as I was then.

If I had been told that they don't work with landlords when I had called up, it would have been disappointing but understandable. I would have just called someone else. But I was never asked if the house was a rental or if I was a landlord. Instead, I was made to wait three hours for someone to show up only to tell me they wouldn't be able to do the work.
I steeled myself for a long night of desperately calling other heating providers in the hope that someone would be able to come out that night and waiting hours for them to come. At worst, I would have to wait till the following day, risking freeing pipes and delaying the cleanup process (leading to mold growth).

Seeing how upset I was, he offered to take a quick look and see if there is something that you can do to fix it yourself. Desperate for heat, I agreed. After a quick look, it turned out that it was just a disconnected hose and the furnace started back up after it was reconnected. I had heat!

However, the end doesn't justify the means and it could easily have been a more serious problem that required a technician.

Even more ironic was the fact that I had had them come out to another rental property a couple of days before and that technician had no problems working on that furnace. Maybe it was the $200 emergency surcharge I was paying then. So at the very least, this new company policy isn't followed by all their technicians.

I had this company come out to my house during the summer for my a/c. It wasn't cooling properly. About 5-10 min later, the tech told me I had a cut wire and showed me the picture. How could that have been cut? He told me it would run almost $300 to repair. The part  was $189. I told him to fix it. Then I called another company & to check their price for the same part. He said if was $39, compared to what MSP charged me. The other company had a higher trip charge, but was over $100 cheaper for the part. I called MSP plumbing and told the manager about the discrepancy. He refunded me the difference. I believe the tech cut the wire deliberately and overcharged me for the part- will never use this company again.

Folloiw-up on my 9/19 review. When I spoke with Jeff at MSP Plumbing/Heating/Air on the morning of 9/19, I asked that someone contact me so I could talk with them about my bill and why the job was so expensive. Jeff assured me that someone would contact me either today (9/19) or the next day (9/20). It's the evening of 9/21 and no one has contacted me.

Great, customer service forward techs, horrible office. Here is our progression of events so far:

8/8: a project coordinator comes out. Confirms that we need a new furnace, recommends we replace the coil, tells us there is nothing wrong with the condenser. We agree with this. The furnace is old, the A/C runs fine and efficiently. Makes sense to us. Great, we finance that night, they come out the next day.

8/13: Furnace is installed, the two techs are great, knowledgeable and friendly. Oops, the a/c isn't pushing out what it should be. Maybe it's the coil that was just installed. That's fine, not a huge deal.

8/14: It's not the coil. There's something wrong with the condenser. The tech tells us it should have been caught during our estimate, and to make sure we cut a deal with management. Okay.. not great given what your coordinator told us, but it happens. They promise to fix it ASAP, and we finance the new condenser after they cut us a pretty good deal for the mistake. An appointment setter calls and leaves a message that they will be there between 11 and noon the next day.

8/17: someone shows up at our door at 7 AM. We are not home, given the message that was left by the front office. I call and speak to the dispatch team, who tells me no one needs to go inside to finish the job, so I okay them to install.

8/20: No improvement in our A/C. It's running constantly to stay around 78 at all times. We call and are told that our installation is incomplete, a tech and an electrician were supposed to get inside the house to finish the job, and since we weren't home they couldn't. YOU, the company, told us that no one needed to be inside the home. Further, no one communicated to us that the job was unfinished. I guess they were just going to let it go and hope we were too dumb to notice? The alternative is that the office staff are completely incompetent, so I almost hope that they were trying to fleece us, since the other scenario would be extremely embarrassing for the company.

8/21: Another technician comes out to finish the job. Again, he's great! Honest and professional. He tells us that that the brand new coil we just paid $500 for was frozen because of the incomplete installation job. Additionally, he thinks there's something wrong with the actual wiring, meaning we probably didn't need to drop the $2000 for a new A/C condenser. Remember, the A/C ran fine before the furnace and coil were installed. He can't figure it out, and is extremely apologetic. He promises us that the GM will call us first thing in the morning to resolve it. He's so confident that he removed the power to the condenser. We are now on day 7 without air conditioning.

Since then, we have called and left a dozen messages with the staff. They now know our address by memory. We have not gotten a call back. We have a brand new condenser sitting in our back yard with no power to it. We are considering contacting the media at this point in hopes we just get some communication back from them. The technicians have been amazing through the whole process. Management could learn something from them. I hope these guys go on to a company that knows how to support them.

Update: about 30 minutes after this was posted we got a call and they were out within a couple hours to resolve. They worked with us and ended up eating the cost of quite a bit of work to make it right. Completely turned around our opinion of them. I would definitely recommend.

I wanted to be sure you heard from me about my request for help with a dishwasher installation, December 12, 2009.

I called to see about getting some help, was told the service call would be $68 and some change but that would be applied to whatever work I needed done. Mind you, I told the dispatcher I needed a dishwasher installed.  I wasn't given any range of costs, just the information I relayed.

So the tech shows up, sees the already unboxed dishwasher sitting feet from here it needs to be installed, all parts present, old dishwasher disconnected and removed.  He checks the dishwasher, his book, and then writes me out  quote for $516.

$516, plus removal as I asked about that.

I laughed, rather than cried, at the audacity of this insane number.   I've had a hell of a week, and thought I'd get a pro on this job and make things easier.  Instead, I just got hours of waiting for some insane aggravation that could have been avoided if the dispatcher would have said something like oh yeah, in a perfect world, this is going to set you back at least $500.  Minimum.  Still want us to come out?

So, I wrote a check for $68 for the privilege of being treated like a rich idiot, and declined the offer.  I set about doing the work myself, which took me a little more than an hour.  I'm a nonprofit manager, but I can read an installation manual.  So I gritted my teeth and did just that.  Assuming these people have actually installed a dishwasher before (as I hadn't), they should have been able to do it about half the time.

They want $1,000 an hour?  Really?

Had a appointment for a week with this company to come and clean our boiler system in our  home. They called the the night before, said that they have a lot of emergency calls to work on other people furnaces. They said they were going to reschedule my appointment for the next week. Wow that bad customer service and this is a company that is just about money and not its customers. Never will I call this company for service!!!!!!!!

0 stars. As many other reviewers have noted, this company engages in sub-standard business practices and has a very loose relationship with honesty. In a fluke of circumstances, they inspected our two furnaces within 4 months. In the first inspection, they told us both furnaces were in excellent shape. In the second inspection, just 4 months later without the furnaces having been used over the summer, they red-tagged them and shut them off and tried to sell us thousands of dollars in repairs. We then had another company come in and tell us that the furnaces were fine.  Because of these questionable business practices, we have filed 2 complaints against Minneapolis St Paul Plumbing with two State of MN agencies. Their response has been to lie about the situation and us. Really a horrible experience. Do not use this company. Run away from this company.

We had them out earlier this week and they quoted over $3000 in repairs to our boiler and over $9000 for a replacement...I was shocked because it was just a routine service call, nothing was wrong with it.  They red tagged it, shut it off, and said it needed to be fixed for safety concerns.  We had a second opinion (Hinding) out today and he said that everything looked great, no repairs needed, no safety concerns...he said he'd gotten lots of calls similar to mine where MSP had used scare tactics and then when people get second opinions it turns out nothing is needed.  Also over social media, I heard from several people who had similar experiences.  I would highly discourage use of this company or getting a second opinion if they recommend work.

We got a new furnace installed.  We have had nothing but problems.  We have received the worst customer service.  Are brand new furnace has stopped working on numerous occasions.  They do not return phone calls.  We always get an excuse when they have to come out and fix it.  We also have been told by numerous experts that they installed a furnace too big for our house.  Do not use St. Paul Plumbing and heating, unless you want a poor product and awful customer service.

The plumber showed up on time but immediately started treating me like I was a dumb single woman.  He asked me what the problem was, rolled his eyes when he thought I wasn't looking, and proceeded to ask me for a ladder.  I told him I did not have one and with a huge sigh he went out to his truck to get one.  One reason people call your services is because they do not have the supplies themselves.  Then he proceeded to quote me $415 for the simple fix to my shower.  This was including the $68 service charge being deducted so it appalls me to think that without the coupon this month, the quote would have been even more ridiculous at $483.  The fix was simply replacing a faulty cartridge in my shower, allowing the hot and cold water to work.  After receiving this quote, I promptly called my father before agreeing to any service as I felt the quote was very high.  My father is a contractor and immediately told me to not get the services.  Because I felt like the plumber was trying to charge me an outrageous price because I'm a single woman, I told him to leave.  I still had to pay the $68  fee which I'm still upset about.  If this man would have treated me correctly and given me the proper quote, I would have said OK to the service.

After he left, my father traveled over an hour to come help me.  With the help of a plumber friend of his on the phone, he was able to go obtain the parts and tools and fix my shower in 2 hours.  My father doesn't even work with plumbing that often but this is how SIMPLE of a fix this was and the actual part that was needed only cost me $40 at Menard's.

There is NO WAY they can tell me that the plumber was not trying to get one over on me with the cost of the part being $40 and the labor would not have been more than an hour.  He told me those were comparable prices.  If there's one thing I despise about plumbing/electrical/mechanical work, it's men who try to charge single women way more than they should for services.  Again, the quote he gave me INCLUDED the $68 discount.  Is it common practice for this company to charge $187.50/hour for work?!  That would also be if the work took 2 hours.  Being my father, with trips running back and forth to the hardware store, could accomplish this in 2 hours, then this plumber should have been able to get this work done in an hour - tops.  Therefore he was actually trying to charge me $375/hour.  And again that's including the so-called discount.  I am completely disgusted by this and will NEVER call this company again for any of my future needs.   This is completely unacceptable.  I'm very upset by the treatment, quote and so called service.

MSP sold me a $6k furnace package, failed to do the duct work cleaning and likely installed the cheaper model fan.  Its been over 2 days since I first contacted them and made a follow up appointment.  I waited two hours for him to come to my house, called after the service window had expired and was told I'd get a call back in one hour.  No call.  Called the next day, was told I'd receive a call in less than one hour...I did, Rob said he stepped out of a service appointment to make the call and would call me right back.  That happened four hours ago, it is now past business hours.  The GM is apparently out of town.  I don't think I have ever experience worse costumer service in my life.  Of course, when I needed to buy a furnace they were at my house in a matter of hours.

It's too bad that google reviews don't allow for a 'tips' section, but I digress.
I've been working on buying a house for over a month now. I say 'working' because this seller has been incredibly difficult to deal with. (Delays in inspection, trashing the carpet post sale, not adhering to inspection correction agreements, etc).
As a result this outfit was called by seller to verify that some handyman work done to the furnace was up to code. The work was completed and my realtor received a receipt. She called and asked that the service tech call me so I could ask a few questions about the review. Literally 5 minhited of time. No one called. I called today asking if I could speak to the service person for 5 min to get my questions answered. Called at 9, asked for any time by EOD as I needed to extend the closing date should all check out. No one called. The receptionist was particularly annoyed at the request (based on tone), so unsure as to if either of the requests were passed along.
Two observations: 1. If you're going to be a receptionist, please be somewhat accommodating. 2. If there's a follow up question on service to a house being sold and the potential buyer is the caller, 5 min of time may be worth it to acquire a new customer. Just food for thought.

*Updated part II*
Dave followed through on his commitment to fixing my AC unit with a permanent repair.  MSP called me as soon as the parts were in and were able to come out the next day within my requested time slot.  The technicians were very skilled and worked all day to resolve the issue.  I am optimistic the company will continue to improve on their response times and communication with their customers going forward.

*Updated*
Shortly after I wrote this review, their customer service manager, Dave called me and apologized for the communication breakdown.  He personally came out and installed a temporary window unit until the parts for a full repair of my permanent AC unit come in.  I appreciated his response and am optimistic they can restore their reputation assuming they improve on their response times, communication and once my unit is fully repaired.

I rarely write negative reviews however I am so incredibly disappointed in this company and I have spent tens of thousands of dollars with them in just the last year.  Our AC went out, technician came for a service call last week.  Said it's either a compressor or the whole unit needs replacing (it's ~6 years old so not that old).  80 degrees all week and no call back from the technician.  Called MSP literally 8 times - majority of which was answered by their call service...even during office hours.  No call back.  I was able to reach their HVAC manager on Friday - he said they have to order parts which could take a week.  I asked for a temporary solution.  He promised a window unit would be delivered that day since I paid for the care program.  No one showed up.  Complete empty promise.  Today will be 96 degrees out and I still cannot reach anyone other than the call service.  I am forced to now hire an emergency HVAC company and pay them to repair the unit I purchased from MSP - along with their care program which has not provided any value.  Terrible company and very disappointing.

My basement drain had backed up ,  I called MSP Plumbing, Heating, Air, and they sent someone from One Hour Rooter.  (onehourrooter.com)

A  technician, Raymond (Ray), came and told us he is the general manager for the company.   He told me the only solution for my issue would be a hydrojet of the main drain without even looking or investigating our basement issue. He also told me we needed to get a bio-clean treatment.  We asked for the cables and snakes pipe cleaning,  and Ray said hydrojet is the only solution to fix our backup issue, and he told us also my whole house  from kitchen, bathroom to basement is clogged (Another lie).

We knew this is not true and Ray is lying  because we just had another plumber came an hour earlier and investigated the drain pipe,  and offered different options & prices for our backup issues.  Since MSP offered no service fees for member,  we called them to send a plumber for second opinion.

Ray said for $1824 they would hydro jet my main line and floor drain and warranty the work for 2 years.  Second, for approximately $7000 they would clean and install a liner in my main line.   I rejected the offer, and he seems upset but finally offered the cables and snakes pipe cleaning.

If this guy offered different options & prices upfront,  we might use their service.   But using the Scare tactics and High Pressure Sales Techniques  won't work or scare us.

They charge CRAZY prices.  The guy came out and wanted to charge me $800 for a job I knew shouldn't be more than $300. But before he even gave me the estimate he said he was doing a free inspection on the rest of my plumbing.  He went back to his van and took 20 minutes to right up an estimate that included plumbing repairs of over 7,000 dollars.  I told him no thank you on everything and explained that I knew he was trying to rob me.  He insisted on collecting the 88 dollars for making the house stop, explaining that there was still the gas and overhead that needed to be paid for. I consider the fact that I was only out 88 dollars a god-send.  I thanked my lucky stars I know something about plumbing and knew he was trying to rob me blind.  I quickly called another company (McClellan Plumbing) who came out and did the job for $299.  Do yourself a favor, especially if you don't know anything about plumbing, and call any other company.  Many companies do fabulous, guaranteed work for only a fraction of the cost.

We feel that MSP's services provided no value, they misled us into thinking that our furnace was unsafe, and they used shady sales tactics to back us into a corner. Thank goodness we had a home warranty, otherwise we might have fallen prey to these tactics.  Read below for the details.

We scheduled MSP Plumbing, Heating, and Air to come do a tune-up on our working furnace for us on Friday, Dec. 2, 2016. The tech arrived, did his tests, and proceeded to tell us our furnace heat exchanger was cracked and that he was detecting carbon monoxide emissions going from the furnace into the house. The technician, Ricky, told us that, by law, he was forced to shut down the furnace. He red-tagged the furnace and turned off the power and gas. Then he went over the various repair and replacement options for the furnace, ranging from $2400 to $10000. Then, he left me in a chilly house.

Later that day I decided to turn the furnace back on (wise or not). When I went to start the furnace, I turned the power and gas on. Then I turned the thermostat on. The furnace didn't function. Before Ricky came, we had a functional furnace. After he left, our furnace was not functional at all.

Because Ricky's visit was supposed to be a maintenance tuneup only, we then called our home warranty people. The home warranty company sent a tech out on Saturday the 3rd. The tech opened the furnace and found that the furnace had been wired with a jump-wire that would prevent the furnace from starting. The home warranty tech removed the wire and the furnace started immediately. The home warranty tech did his inspection and said that the heat exchanger was not cracked, there was no carbon monoxide emissions into the house, and that the furnace was perfectly safe to use.  The tech also told us that the method used by Ricky to check carbon monoxide readings were not standard procedure.  The MSP tech did not leave any report of his findings as proof.

This company is a joke, and since this incident, I have heard from multiple people that the technicians from MSP have daily sales quotas they have to meet.  They are more interested in selling than they are fixing anything.  Their tuneup deals are just a way to get themselves in the door and tell you everything is wrong.  My advice, stay away.

I called for a simple maintenance tune up to my WORKING furnace.  I was almost immediately informed that he would have to red tag as it was dangerous to run.  This was before he performed a full inspection/tune-up.  He offered to provide space heaters(what a joke).   Aggressive scare tactics.  They had no tools to measure carbon monoxide, and my reader registered 0, although they deemed it dangerous.  I had another inspection by a trusted professional and he said that there was absolutely nothing wrong, and that after 14 years my furnace will show wear, but confirmed it is completely safe, and that my air exchanger is NOT blocked or cracked as the tech had indicated.  DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.  I will be registering a complaint with the BBB as well.  I will also be copying and pasting this post to as many social media outlets as possible.  This type of predatory behavior is unacceptable

We hired Minneapolis Saint Paul Plumbing and Heating to install a new, commercial-grade water heater in September 2017; just over 1.5 years ago. We paid about $3k for the product and installation. Last night, we had to leave our home due to a gas leak. The CenterPoint Energy technician found two leaks in the connections to the base of the water heater, at both ends of the copper piping. The leaks were due to improper tightening of the flare nuts. He said they were hand tightened, at best. (quoting here). We had other major issues with MSP six months later when agreed to have them install two new furnaces and they simply didn't show up to do the job. I would NEVER hire MSP. Their technician is incredibly careless, based on the work we have experience and his nonchalance in simply not showing up to do the job we agreed to have them do. They don't even merit one star, but I was basically forced to add that.

Minneapolis Saint Paul Plumbing Heating I think totally overcharged me. They s aid they were confident they could fix something for around $300 but then they said that they were not able to fix the shower head and charged me almost $1,300. They had disassembled everything so there is no way i could not have the work done.  They also ripped out a good portion of my wall to do the work and left a big hole that i had to have fixed.  i felt i was mislead and that they planned to charge me the large amount the whole time. i do not recommend this company.

This company quoted me $2639 to replace my water heater. When I called them they told me over the phone after looking at pictures it should be in the $1400-$2400 range. What I actually did was with the help of an honest Plumber purchase the water heater and parts in Home Depot for $839. The plumber then installed it for $250 plus an extra $20 for his consumables. Including the tip as he was a super nice guy the total cost to me was $1139. Lets compare this to the $2639 Minneapolis St Paul Plumbing tried to quote me a whopping $1500 saving. Tell me how they are not a total rip off?

They also claim their customer reviews on their website are unfiltered. I don't believe that to be the case, my review keeps disappearing which is rather convenient given they tried and failed to rip me off.

We had Minneapolis-St. Paul Plumbing and Heating to our house to replace bathroom sink faucet and valve on pipe on basement. Note: I had already purchased the new faucet. His first estimate was $6000.00 as he found all kinds of things that needed upgrades in furnace room.  Note: I had just had an annual check of furnace by company that installed it and everything is fine. When I finally got him to give estimate on original projects the price was almost $1200.00.  Cost me $88.00 for these two outrageous prices. Will never call them again. No stars

Beware of this company. Wished I'd checked yelp before I scheduled a coupon furnace tune-up. I knew the inducer motor on my 10 year old carrier furnace was shot but the tech told me basically just about every component was ready to go out any minute and suggested a new furnace was a better alternative. He quoted a price of approximately  $6000 to $7000 for a new furnace which was shocking. He called in to schedule a sales rep to come and give me an estimate for a furnace. Their modus operandi seems to be to scare the homeowner into buying a new furnace quickly before they have time to get a second opinion. The prices quoted for replacement of the individual components was astronomic, $900 for just the inducer motor which takes about 1 hour to install and $299 for the flame sensor. They wanted $6500 to replace everthing they said was going bad. Home Service Plus charged me $286 for the inducer motor and $16 for the flame sensor which only takes a few minutes to replace and $140 total for labor. Tech told me everything looked normal for a 10 year old furnace. When I told the sales rep of this company i was going to get 3 or 4 estimates their price went down to $3750 to replace the furnace once they realized i wasn't an easy mark. When i asked why they charge way more than a doctor per hour for labor the tech said that doctors don't come to your house and that they need to pay rent and office staff. Well doctors also have high overhead costs. They are polite but they charge way too much and in my opinion are unethical. I recommend HSP for your first call for help.

Whatever you do, DON'T USE THIS COMPANY! They price gauge new customers, and are completely unreliable when it comes to their 24/7 appointments. The handle in our shower broke off a few nights ago. We called their 24-hour hotline and were told that someone would come out that night to fix it. After 10PM, my husband finally called to see if a plumber would be coming out. No one was on their way, so we called again in the morning. When they finally showed up in the afternoon, the plumber charged us $730 to fix the handle and put the old handle back on. $730! When my husband called later to discuss the price and ask for an explanation on why the cost was so high, all he was told is that they would use some coupons and give us a member's discount and refund us $128 back. But no explanation on why this service would cost $730. What a scam. I will never use them again, and will make sure anyone looking for a plumbing service knows to steer clear of this company.

I feel like I lost a reliable friend!  I had used this company for over 20 years to service my furnace and felt they were reliable and reasonably priced.  Recently, I had a furnace issue with a unit that was 9 years old.  I called them for a service repair and after spending an hour assessing the problem along with telling me about several other things I should have done, they wanted to charge me $6000 for a service plan to fix the unit as well a other routine maintenance things over the next five years.  (I could buy a new furnace for that price!)  I declined and told them I just wanted the furnace serviced along with another couple of items that seemed to be a safety related.  Again the quote was very high.  Because I had no heat, I agreed.  In hind sight, I realized that the company had done a routine service a couple of months before and never mentioned the safety items.  Also, I called the company after they were finished and asked for an itemized statement breaking down the cost of what they had done. They replied that they only quote packages and do not break down the cost per item.  I WILL NEVER use this company again nor will I recommend them to others.  I feel that I was ripped off!

Had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Bo Bransford at MSP Plumbing Heating Air.  Super nice guy!  Competent, professional, and personable.  This is our 2nd experience using MSP.  The first time was about 4 years ago.  Both experiences were great! In May of 2015 MSP Plumbing Heating and Air inspected my HVAC system (purchased on groupon). The tech told me everything was great, I didn't need to have it looked at for another few years.

In April of 2016 they offered me a complimentary inspection. They came out in May of 2016 and found a multitude of problems with my AC and furnace (both are less than 10 yrs old). The second tech (I think they sent a second guy because the first one was not convincing enough), red tagged my furnace because of CO problems.   He told me considering all the things that need fixing, I might as well replace it, and luckily they've got a special going on so I can get my AC replaced too!

I thought it was weird that over the course of one year my HVAC system went from great to unsafe to operate and replace immediately. So I contacted another company (High Road which was recommended by Structure Tech), and they inspected the furnace and AC and found some minor things that didn't really need to be fixed, but if I wanted to... and also, that the furnace was not leaking CO and should not have been red tagged.

I feel that this company is not operating ethically, they are using scare tactics to get people to unnecessarily replace their HVAC systems.  oh yeah, and like some other people said, they really over price their reparis!!

PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. We are in the process of selling our home, so we wanted to get our furnace routinely maintenanced. The technician came and did his 'inspection' of our furnace in 10 minutes and said that the heat exchanger was cracked therefore needing a new furnace! He told my husband that any inspector would be able to see the crack, but that my husband probably wouldn't want to crawl underneath to look at the crack himself  because it's such a small space, etc. Then proceeds to say that the carbon monoxide levels in our home are unsafe and wants to red flag it and shut off our furnace all together! He quoted us $4700 for a new furnace!! He tried talking my husband into agreeing to this and that he would be out on Monday to replace it, being very convienent... So, he finally left our house, leaving the gas on, but the switch off. We called another company to come out for a quote. The new company guy, Pat, came out to our place and was not at all suprised to find that our furnace was a-okay! And that the carbon monoxide levels were more than safe in our house.  I told him Mpls/StP was the company who came out initially. The look on his face said it all. He said they have been running into a lot of customers who have been scammed by this company, thousands and thousands of dollars and they try and scare you by saying they will shut your furnace off 'red flag' it. The stories that we heard makes my stomach turn on how this company and these workers can go to sleep at night knowing how much they rip people off.  What they are doing to people and charging them is so sad. Make sure if you do go with them you are very cautious even with the good reviews people have been writing.... I am just so grateful that we went with a second opinion!!!

I called to schedule a time for a tech to come and give me a quote for a replacement furnace and possibly additional plumbing work. At the time of my initial call the operator informed me that there would be a $88 fee for coming out to give a quote but they would be waived if I signed of for their 'Total Care Club'...sounded strange but I figured it would save me money so I signed up. I later came to find out that this was completely inaccurate and that the quote would be free. Not sure if there was incentives for operators selling these memberships but this wasn't a good start as I felt manipulated and lied to.

The day of the appointment came and I received a call to reschedule. I know that things come up, but when I schedule and appointment for a specific time...that means I plan to meet at that time. The combination of these 2 things led me to believe that there was no point in continuing this relationship there are numerous other companies out there doing the same thing that can keep an appointment and be honest about their services.

First Yelp review I have ever been moved to write.  Office staff and Management very friendly and helpful, technician was terribly unprofessional and difficult and pricing is extortionate! Will never use services again. I scheduled a special a/c tune-up of $49 advertised in a mailer. On the visit the capacitor was found to not be working and was told the tune-up could not be completed without replacing it. For a part that was stocked on the truck I was quoted $299 to install it. That seemed a little expensive so I declined the repair and was told since the tune up couldn't be completed I would have to pay the normal service call charge of $88. Nowhere on the advertised mailer or when I called to set up appointment was there a disclosure that if the system wasn't working or repairs were necessary the tune-up couldn't be completed and I would be required to pay $88 for a service visit. After declining the repair service I went to my local supply store and found the replacement part for $15. I decided to purchase that and replace it myself which took about 10 mins as a non-professional. I called back to speak to a manager about why the charge was $299 and was told that it factored in overhead costs of insurance, offices, trucks etc. I was told that they would send out a technician to complete the tune-up no that the system was working free of charge as a one-time courtesy. On the second visit the same technician from a week prior arrived at my property and said he was here to install new capacitor and Hard Start Kit for $600 which is what he had perviously suggested on the first visit, but I had already declined, and talked about with the manager why. He then refused to do the a/c tune up stating it wasn't right to him and company and drove off extremely unprofessionally.

Paid their fee to have a tech show up and ask me what my goal was for today's visit. Well sir, I want my heat back on, that's all. He spend about 10 minutes with the furnace and the water heater and quote me a price of nearly $7,000.00 for repairs. Not a new furnace or water heater, just repairs!!! Then the guy admitted that we could get new furnace and water heater from them for about $6000.00. Finally he tried to convince us that he could service just the furnace for around $800.00.

Best part, he refused to give an itemized breakdown for his services saying that it will be entered in the customer file in their database. What? You can't even give me a written record of what you quoted me????

Had another company come in the same day, the guy cleared out the filter and cleaned the pilot light for about $99.00. Furnace is as good as new and recommended a plumber who will replace the water heater (parts and labor) for about $1000.00. By the way, the furnace is not that old and does not need to be replaced.

Moral of the story, just because you have already paid them to come out, does not mean that you should commit to their ridiculous charges. Take a loss on the service fee and save yourself thousands of dollars in the long run. I will give them credit though...when I called and told them that another tech fixed the problem for $99.00 they promptly refunded the service call fee. So demand a refund!

If I could give them zero stars I would. We called to have someone come out and service our furnace for the winter. Technician tells us our furnace is emmitting carbon monoxide and that we need a new furnace. However, he DID NOT tell us he turned our furnace off; then a week later when it gets cold and we went to turn the heat on....NO HEAT.

They have terrible customer service, every time we called to have someone come back out to tell us why it wouldn't work (we don't have record that he red tagged your furnace, it should work...) they would push back our appointment later and later, until eventually they would cancel.

Finally, I called and said, have someone out here AT THIS TIME, and they must have known I was pretty peeved at this point, so the same sleazy technician came out and goes oh, im not allowed to turn your furnace back on, its unsafe. WELL you didnt even tell us you turned it off.

Gives us a quote for a new furnace, obviously I'm not buying from you anyways you are clearly out to sell a new furnace.

we have TWO OTHER companies come out to look (one of which turned the gas back on for us), both of which said no, your furance is fine and it is NOT emmitting carbon monoxide.

So basically if you want horrible customer service and want someone to try to make you buy a new furnace with scare tactics and shady behavior, call them.

The employees are helpful and thorough.  If you make a large purchase, you get the comfort care plan for a year, and visits from the technicians are free to diagnose any problems.  I suggest purchasing the comfort care program ahead of time, because their services seem much more expensive without it.  Our last few visits have gone pretty well.  MSP installed a heat pump system and it has improved the energy efficiency in our home.  We also needed a new boiler recently, and MSP was quick with the install.  I did have to pick up loose pieces and some screws on the basement floor after they left.  And, since it was a rainy day... there were boot marks on the basement rug.  MSP did submit paperwork for us to get a rebate on a new heat pump, as well as our boiler.

Beware of over pricing!

The service tech was awesome!

The capacitor went out on my A/C, as the tech was putting it in I asked him what the cost is going to be. I was shocked when he told me the price of $550.

I searched online for the cost of the capacitor and found the price ranging from $75-$250. At the same time Burnsville Heating and Cooling was at the neighbors home. I asked them the cost and he quoted U.S. $350 (instilled)

I told the Minn/STP HP tech to stop his work, I'm going to have the other company do the job. He made a call to his office and they decided to charge me $345 instead of the $550.

Next time I'll just call Burnsville Heating and Cooling first.

I had the misfortune of a broken water heater that flooded my basement a bit. Luckily I was home and able to catch it before it really got worse.

Morgan came to my home within 20 minutes to assess the issue and was even willing to help move things with me.
He was able to find an installer (Nick) who was just getting done with a job in the area and came immediately. All said and done, about 40-45 minutes total response with this service.

They provided a couple options based on the occupancy of the house - which I was totally comfortable with. Nick got to work for preparation and had a delivery of a new water heater in the next 20 minutes. He also asked if I needed any help in the cleanup. These guys were fantastic and incredibly fast.

A very professional team with great personable people - highly recommended. 5 stars all the way!

In February 2015 I called because my furnace thermostat was reading lower then the actual temperature  I had the thermostat set in my home.  I thought that maybe it was a minor fix such as the blower.  With not much knowledge of furnaces and how they operate the technician inspected the the furnace, used a camera  to check the heating elements and told me that it would be over $5000 to repair. He informed me that the parts to this particular furnace had just been thrown away at the shop because it was old, 1988 and that getting parts for this furnace could take up to a month. He suggested buying a new furnace and red tagged my furnace when it was -12 degrees.  He placed space heaters all around my home and  told me he would wait for my decision as to a fix.  I called a local family owned furnace company, who arrived in 20 minutes ( the first call to St Paul heating and plumbing was on a Sunday and I waited 9 hrs for them to arrive).  The new company said that because we did not change the filters that the furnace could not keep up due to dirty filters.  He changed the filter, checked for CO2 inside and outside of the home and informed us the furnace was in good shape.  He charged $154 for the visit, they charged $200 and made we wait 9hrs.  I had to call them on several occasions to pick up their space heaters.  SHAME ON YOU !!

I wish I could give them zero stars.

I live with my sister, her husband, and their two kids. The water heater in their house went out, so my sister called MSPPHA for an estimate. Guy came out, told her her water heater was shot and needed to be replaced, PLUS it wasn't venting properly, so they needed to drill a hole through the concrete wall. It would cost $3,000. My sister was beside herself. She needs hot water to give her little boys their baths, but, as two young parents, she and my brother-in-law don't have thousands of dollars just laying around the house.

Once she calmed down, she thought to call the number on the water heater itself. Thank god she did. The nice woman who answered the phone listened to the issue for thirty seconds, said, Oh, that's no problem. I'll send you the replacement part for free. You'll get it tomorrow. Once they got the FREE part, my bro-in-law, who can hardly install a light switch on his own, replaced the part in less than an hour.

The people who run this company are pathetic - one of their employees came into my sister's home and tried to scare her into spending way too much on unnecessary work. And they wanted to cut a hole into the foundation? What the hell? How are these jackasses even licensed?

Omg, I didn't even use them because their communication was so bad just trying to get an appointment!  So I go to their website and to call and see if they had open appts on Saturday to fix a leaking water line. Up pops a chat box so I use that.  I tell her all I want to know is if they have any open appts for Saturday, but she starts asking for my email and all these other questions.  But she can't give me any info on appointments and they need to call.  I give her my phone number and they call 10 min later.
So again I ask if they have any openings for Saturday - she knew from her notes what my problem was and what I needed, but she can't look at the schedule either!! She has to forward me to scheduling. So after She Called Me I have to wait on ho!d for scheduling. So I sit on ho!d and final!y someone answers and she says She also can't look at the schedule, that the scheduling people must be busy.  Then why was I called??? That was my one and only question!  So after 3 people I STILL had no answer to a very basic question.  I hang up and I get yet another call from them - Hey we are getting back to you about your Chat!  I told them to forget it.  There's too many other plumbers in the world to go through all that for a simple question.

This company have the worst plumbers I have ever seen.  He came to verity the plumbing is done write and just put two threaded faucets in the garage on a purchase of a house to pass the city code.  As soon as he got there, He asked why we need the work done.  I told him the reason and that I have a short time frame to get the paper from him to the city.  He then quoted me $800.  And, when i ask why that much... Its not me, it is the company I work for... He then threaten to leave if I don't want the job done but I had to pay him $90 for just walking in to the door.  I had very limited time and was left with no choice.  He finished the job in 1 hour but sat in his comp van for 2hrs on the phone right outside of my house.

After an exhaustive bidding process during which I got estimates from seven different companies for a major ductwork and air conditioning/heat pump installation job, I went with MSP. Their estimate was the least expensive and most energy efficient. The sales person was very knowledgable about heat pumps and provided us options that no one else did. Very patient with all of my questions. Installation took three days. Everyone I met from MSP was great and took good care of the house while they were here. Seriously hard workers. The system works well and we're happy with the decision we made. Can easily recommend MSP based on my experience.

It is hard to know what work they did. Instead of the usual itemized statement with parts and labor they listed our service as the bandaid fix. Not one part or price was on the invoice they sent me. If I wasn't desperate to have my air conditioner working with a house full of company I would have said no to the lowest price which was $598 for as is stated a voltage absorption system. The top price was over $3000.00, that would give me a warranty for my furnace too.I have asked twice now for a parts and labor receipt but have only got a generalized receipt instead. It shows that a company is not too honest if they will not itemized what products were used. I would say they did get my air conditioner running but are very shady on their billing.

Absolutely the worst service ever! I had a scheduled AC tune up and some guy named Mitch showed up, he proceeded to shove a meat thermometer in the ac vent and then went out and took off the metal housing and used a current device to see if the unit was getting power. That was it! nothing else. Off course it was getting power it was already running. Said he would come back later to finish up with everything else, never called back never showed up. I asked for some type of recite to prove he was even there and he said he would e-mail it to me. NADA- zip-nothing. You really can't complain about their service because there isn't any! Stay clear of this outfit!

Minneapolis Saint Paul Plumbing and Heating charged us $68 for coming into our home and trying to sell us stuff. The situation seemed unethical.

We needed a water heater and were surprised to find that this company only sells Bradford White water heaters, and at a price that they would not disclose even when asked directly; the unit and the work are a package deal. The estimate we were given for the job was $1500. On-line the water heater we were offered costs around $500 to the average consumer (which I'm guessing is above MSPPH's wholesale price). The water heater is not eligible for federal rebates, nor is it particularly energy efficient.

We were not interested in, nor did we instigate discussion of, the other products/services that were also pitched.

When I balked at the product choices (none) and the price, the MSPPH plumber said I would pay an independent plumber nearly as much for something comparable. This is not the case.

We went out and purchased the water heater of our choice - more energy efficient, with twice the warranty and a federal rebate. We saw a flyer and called Matt's Plumbing Solutions and had the water heater installed at a cost quoted OVER THE PHONE FOR FREE. We paid $800 overall.

We are still out the $68. I rationalize this expense by telling myself that it is the cost of learning a lesson - a cost I should not have paid and which I hope to spare others.

Called Saint Paul Plumbing Heating Air (SPPHA) to fix a leak in my bathtub that was leaking into my basement.  Damen from SPPHA comes over at his scheduled time and before even walking 10 steps to the source of the leak starts trying to sell me a new water heater Oh man, this thing is a ticking time bomb.  I wouldn't be doing my job as a plumber if I didn't advise you to replace this (Side Note: When you waste my time trying to upsell me you aren't doing your job as a plumber either - STFU and start fixing some pipes.)

After listening to his sales pitch for a while he finally looked at the leak and tested it - just as he suspected it was leaking.  Seems like a good use of $69 to pay his visit fee.   Damen goes to his plumber bible and says we don't charge by the hour, we do up front pricing which is better for the customer. After looking in his book for a while Damen comes back with an $1,000 estimate to fix it.

After cleaning the crap out of my pants I froze up and told Damen I needed to call my wife I totally understand, this is a big decision.  Damen asks if I want some privacy and I say 'yeah, why don't you step outside.  I call my wife to complain, knowing we were not using SPPHA to do this job and signal for Damen to come back in.

Damen understands me passing on his services (which felt like his motive all along - get my $69 visit fee and not do any plumbing whatsoever).  I try to get more info out of him by asking Is the price driven more by parts or more by labor here?  His response,  totally labor, the parts are minimal.

I then tell Damen I have to be back at work by 12 and need to leave by 11am to get there. (At this point it was 8am.) Damen then advises me that he thinks he could have the job done in 2 hours if he started now.

So let's break this down:
-$1100 quote to fix the pipe
-Price is almost driven completely by labor
-Lets say an aggressive estimate of $100 parts, leaving $1000 for labor
-SPPHA can fix the whole problem in 2 hours.
-$1000 / 2 hours = $500 per hour.

Short of a prostitute there is no profession that is running at $500 per hour.

I had an independent plumber out 2 weeks later who fixed everything I mentioned earlier, and some other quick fix items, for $200 in total.

Minneapolis/Saint Paul Plumbing Heating and Air is honestly the worst company I have ever worked with in 10 years of living in the Twin Cities.  The plumber I hired to do my work had over 30 years of experience while SPPHA had 4 years of experience.  SPPHA also threw this gem at me I mean you can go with an independent plumber, but with us you know you are going to get the job done right.  OH REALLY DOCTOR?!?!  The 29 year old with spiky hair and 4 years of plumbing experience is going to teach the 30 year plumbing veteran a thing or two about plumbing?? If I could give negative stars in this rating system I would.

Updated as of 12/24/2012: The issue that I had the local independent plumber fix is still working fine to this day for $900 less than what SPPHA quoted me.  SPPHA is the worst.

Updated as of 5/2/2014: everything still fine with the fixed pipe. Saint Paul heating and plumbing is the worst.

Updated as of 10/16/2015: 4 years since the worst plumbers ever visited my house.  The fix that an independent plumber put in place for us still is working perfectly fine.

THEY WILL LIE AND RIP YOU OFF I called them to repair my AC, when tech showed up he began by unplugging all the wires and found one that was broken. But claimed that it wasn't the problem the pump was shot. and I needed a new one. the next day my wife had her friend from work come look at it. he used the same meters they showed same readings Minneapolis tech had, But he showed me on AC unit that that readings were right. He fixed broken wire and unit started up and works just fine. I WAS LIED TOO by their tech, I called them several times to try to talk to someone in charge, Each time I was told they would get back to me but no one ever called me back.  DO NOT CALL  Minneapolis st paul plumbing unless you want to get ripped off.

Avoid this Dishonest Company!
I had a faulty pilot light for my boiler that needed replacing. After waiting a hour for the service tech to complete his inspection, he had a list of recommended repairs which exceeded $12,000.00. I told him I only wanted my pilot light replaced. He said he wouldn't be able to complete the work if I didn't get a Half Day Combustion Cleanse $1599.00 in addition to replacing my pilot light for $399.00 - he claimed that I had carbon monoxide leaking into my basement and threatened to Red Tag my boiler system if I didn't do the work. He said that my boiler produced 30 parts Carbon Monoxide per million into the air - that's less than what is produced by cooking eggs! After getting sticker shock and telling him to hit the road - he shut my boiler off and red tagged my furnace. FYI: only a utility company has the authority to red tag a furnace.
I called another heating company - he charged $213.00 to replace the pilot light and said my boiler is in great shape. A service call from this Minneapolis Saint Paul Plumbing Heating Air  is a thinly veiled way to sell services that aren't needed at ridiculously high prices. Find another company and don't let them steal your time and money. They tried take advantage of my fears and the potential for freezing pipes. I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau today.

In the middle of winter last year, Brian from Minneapolis St Paul Heating, Plumbing and Air came to assess the problem with myfurnace. He offered different solutions and emphasized the importance of rectifying the problem immediately to avoid further damage to the furnace and avoid other issues such as freezing pipes. I trusted his advice and taking into account the potential problems I could face if the furnace is not repaired, I opted for the so called band-aid solution. The solution cost me $1497. At the time I did not question the charges because I thought they were appropriate and probably what others pay for similar service. But, when I spoke with friends and co-workers about the service and charges, they expressed shock and disbelief for the amount of money I was charged for replacing the furnace motor. Some of them had similar issues and had their furnace repaired at a much lower charge($450). I called the company back and got $400 reimbursed, but I wonder how many customers they must have taken advantage of.

My initial call was answered promptly and professionally.  I explained the problem with our furnace, was told the tech would be here between 11:00 AM & 1:00 PM, with a pre-visit notifying call a half hour before the tech arrived at our home.  Literally, everything occurred as explained to the minute.

1/2 an hour after inspecting and testing the unit, the tech diagnosed a couple of issues, suggested cost effective solutions and implemented the same.  Our cost was minimal and we're pleased with the whole experience.

In fact, we've so pleased with the tech and his service knowledge, we've signed onto the annual maintenance program.  The plan is reasonably priced and will provide peace of mind for the AC in the summer and heating in the winter.

Everyone needs a guy.  My guy for HVAC is Kou at Mpls. St. Paul Plumbing Heating & AC.  Kou is a consummate professional, straight talk on scope of work, cost and long term care.  No doubt from today forward whether its annual maintenance or emergency repair, we'll call 651-228-9200 and ask for Kou!

I realize we had a tough problem to solve with our furnace but about $500 or more into it and two service calls later the boiler went out at night...and I discovered they have no 24-hour emergency service!! In fact I called before 10, which is how late they go, but they would not come out. Interestingly enough, the other service guy who came out figured out the problem quickly. (Note: last year this same company had to come out twice as well) I'm not using them anymore.

This company does good work but you need to be wary of their pricing shenanigans. I had them come out years ago and they did a great job for a fair hourly rate. Then they adopted what they call Up Front Pricing--sounds great, but it's not for me. Basically, they quote you the maximum you'd ever pay for the job, even if something goes wrong on their end. Sounds nice, but think about it--is anyone ever going to underestimate the cost of their work? Nope, there's going to be a lot of padding, just in case. And that's how it played out when I called them more recently.  The repairman had the water heater pulled apart in the middle of winter to see what was wrong with it, and I'm literally over the barrel, with no time for bids. I went with his price, and it turned out to be twice what I should have paid overall. Worse, $300 for duct work I would have paid $30 for at Menard's, etc. The whole bill was like that when I called the office for an itemization, and the rep was dismissive of my concerns. I will call Sears next time.

I contacted this company because I received a coupon in the mail, and was excited because they could come out the next day to unclog my shower drain.
The problem turned out to be a trap within the drain and the plumber gave me an estimate of $325 to take apart the trap, or $800 for a completely new trap. A bit shocked at the price, I told him I had to run it by my husband first and call him back. Thank goodness I did! The next day I called another plumber, who came out right away and replaced the trap for $340 dollars! I am appalled that Mpls/St Paul Plumbing and Heating attempted to so brazenly overcharge me for the exact same repair. I will never contact them again and I will tell others about my experience with them too.

I'm a little surprised at the 5 star ratings.  We were stupid enough to use them twice.  The first time the plumber charged over $600.00 for a bathroom sink repair.   This is no exaggeration.   To add insult to injury the sink still didn't work right.   When I called plumber he basically said tough luck.    We called them years later to get an estimate on some drainage problem on our kitchen sink.   The plumber wouldn't do the basic repair unless he could do other plumbing he said was required.   Then he wanted to charge us for coming out to the house to give us an estimate because we didn't use him for the work.   Talk about bait and switch.  Since late we have finally met a well respected plumber who works individually.  He told us there was no reason that any of the plumbing work St. Paul Plumbing told us had to be repaired needed any type of work and was done to proper code.

Do not use this company - they charge more than double other companies!

My AC was blowing warm air. I had MSP come out to look at it. The tech showed me 4 options for repair, the highest was almost 5k, the lowest was a standard recharge for $860. Not knowing the going rate for a recharge is typically $350, I had him recharge it. 4 days later it was again blowing warm air. I called to complain about the repair and their prices, after talking to friends and family I found they are hugely overpriced. I called two more times being told a manager would call me back, no one did.

So I filed a complaint on the BBB after seeing that many people have had the same issues and some got refunds. They finally responded and said to call Andy the manager. I spoke with him at length about my issues, he defended their prices by saying they are premier so they charge premium prices. There really wasn't any concrete reasons other than they want to charge more. He wanted to send another tech out, and I argued that they charge more so why would I want to continue to work with them and that I wanted a refund.

I mentioned that i had another company come in and give me a second opinion. They found a few things, and said that to find and repair costs almost as much as a new unit and that is only if they don't find more things once they are in the thick of it. We received a quote for a new AC and it came to 3,200. So basically MSP wanted me to pay 5k to fix it when a new one is cheaper! Once I mentioned this, he told me that their standard install costs 4,200 but he would match the quote for $3,200 and credit me the $860 from the recharge toward it.

I thought about this offer, and we spoke again. There were many red flags about him quoting me over the phone and not seeing my house or having their guy come measure and figure out for themselves what we need installed. I told him this over the phone quote leaves them a huge grey area to all the sudden get on site and throw a whole bunch of extra charges in because they didn't know the full picture. He argued that he knows his competitor (standard heating) and can trust that whatever they quoted me is correct and he can go from there. So he is basically saying Standard heating is just as good as them but they charge way less. He argued that his company has better service so that is why you pay more. I did not receive good service from them, so I am still unclear on what their prices are paying for, except to take advantage of the average homeowner that is not educated on the heating and cooling industry.

He got a little angry and short with me after this, and basically said I can take his offer or leave it. I thought about it for another day and have decided to go with another company for an install. I just can't justify giving MSP more of my money for shady work and bad customer service. I really regret working with them, and would never recommend them to anyone.

Buyer Beware!  My AC stopped working (installed 1990's)  and when I called, they couldn't have been any nicer on the phone.  An appt. was quickly made.  That's the one star in my review.  The technician came out, and started what was basically a sales call.  Opening line So what do you expect from this visit?  To fix my AC, of course!  After an hour of inspecting my furnace, ducts, and AC, he finally got outside where the problem was.  Then I got the quotes to complete the work--6 levels of service, starting at $15,000!!  I kid you not.  That included a brand new furnace and AC unit.  The 6th level of service, the lowest one, was to actually to do my repair, at $690. (I was made to listen to all levels of service on the phone, despite being busy at work.)   I got a small new voltage distribution board, and a repaired external cut wire, and that was it.  The bill said Basic Electrical Renovation.  Flat price, no parts/ labor breakdown.  Workmanship poor--founds screws lying next to the new circuit board inside the unit.  A wire splice on the outside was capped off with simple plastic cap, instead of installing new wire.  Would never pass electrical inspection.  Had to fix his work myself.  Follow-up call from them was not to address my concerns, but if I wanted to review the other 5 pricing options for new units, which as mentioned was going to be up to $15,000!  BUYER BEWARE!  Move on to another company.  BEWARE of their flat pricing!, or else you too can spend $700 like I did on an inexpensive voltage distribution board.  An expensive lesson.
