Reviews
Paul and Mark from Kirkland & Shaw just replaced a hot water heater for me in an attic that must have been literally 120 degrees (it's 95 degrees outside today). They didn't complain, were completely professional, and did a great job. I would definitely recommend the company.
Simple job to change out a couple of washer / dryer faucets and toilet fixtures. Came on time, really professional and courteous and explained everything as they were doing it in case I wanted to try fixing it myself one day. Love that they were local and definitely will use them again going forward in my new house.
Recently we had a waterless tank arrive from Kirkland and Shaw. In today's world we live in a technological highway with machines very complicated.
On Wednesday a worker arrived and made a few minor adjustments on our system. He checked a few things and was thorough.
Tonight, we are very happy as this wonderful man helped us to make a great product even better and a business who helped us even after the sale was done. Thank you for a professional approach the second visit was a joy for our home.
For the second time in two months, a house we are responsible for had a serious issue. In the first case, a pipe had broken in the attic and Kirkland and Shaw were there quickly to fix it....preventing much damage and loss. But the best example of Kirkland and Shaw's dependability and reliability came early this morning. I had notified them that there was a leak in a heating unit...of this same house which had been on the market and now was scheduled to close....TODAY. This morning!
They called me at 7:05 am and had a plumber there before 8 and resolved the issue.
I am so grateful to Kirkland and Shaw for this and several other quick responses in critical situations, as well as for help with routine household issues. This is a very special company.

Great service and dedication! My spouse called this morning when our heating system failed during the start of our current bomb cyclone (blizzard). They were onsite within an hour, and managed to find a replacement motherboard and control unit from the surrounding supply houses. That was no easy task. It's hard to find qualified technicians who know how to diagnose the electronics of a Burnham Alpine gas boiler.
Other heating companies we called said call tomorrow. Instead, Kirkland braved the elements and made sure the system was fixed. They have earned my business for many more years to come!
Nice to know there's some companies that still believe in taking care of the customer.
They fixed a leak in the basement and first floor. There was no estimate given up front. But few days later we received an invoice for $950 with one line item for parts as over $300. There was no detailed breakdown. When I called to discuss the invoice, they were very rude on the phone.
As the other reviewer said
They won't give you an up front estimate, and just say you will receive a bill a few days after service. If you finally get them to give you an estimate it's twice as much as other plumbers.
We won't use them for any other services.
I needed to replace my old kitchen faucet so I bought a new kit from Home Depot and began removing the old faucet as I planned to do it myself. I removed almost all of it, except for one piece (apparently I needed a special tool from the old faucet kit to remove it). I ultimately called Kirkland and Shaw to help me remove that one piece and install the new faucet.
They came and removed the piece which I couldn't do and installed the new faucet. I was pleased with the work, but it seemed to take the plumber a lot longer than expected (almost 2 hours of work?)
When I got the invoice, I was shocked to see that I was charged almost $300! When my husband called to go over the bill, Kirkland and Shaw was unfriendly on the phone and wouldn't hear our side of the story and ultimately even got hung up on. The invoice included $60 worth of supplies (I dont know much about plumbing supplies, but that seems excessive!) and they were charging us for their driving time to and from our home, which I think is ridiculous.
Although my faucet was replaced (which i did half the work) but $300 later and an unfriendly phone call, I will not be using Kirkland and Shaw for any future plumbing repairs.

We spent a great deal of money to have a tub put in our bathroom and to have a sink iinstalled in our kitchen. Kirkland and Shaw did not pull permits prior to starting both jobs. Upon completion of the jobs I brought it to their attention that no permit had been pulled, They replied that it was an oversight. What a disappoinment! I would not recommend Kirkland and Shaw.
I am very sad. I have known this company for years. My father in law used them for a few of his properties and in the past they did a great job. I had called them to put up a new stand alone shower in my home. They came out a few weeks later and did the work but the made a small mistake and the ring was separating. I called them for about three weeks but could not get a call back. Then the whole thing came down. I called the emergency number and a very nice man did come out and had to fix it. It did get worse but in the end they gave me a 100% refund as I had someone else finish the work. So in the end it all worked out. They may be busy but they are ethical

Excellent service and came on promptly. Even though mine was minor fix but Plumer handled it very well.
They won't give you an up front estimate, and just say you will receive a bill a few days after service. If you finally get them to give you an estimate it's twice as much as other plumbers.
Total rip off. After I call them they asked to provide me my tenants name and number. They contacted with my tenant and told them I send them to fix the shower valve and toilet and made an appointment. They did not even call me and gave me price before its installed and I did not even know before they are going to my property. After installation they emailed me the invoice with $566 for parts and $675 for installation. They are not going to provide you any quote or estimate unless you asked for. I never experience like that before. Do not fall on their ads, they will fool you on the charges.

The WORST. We had them come out to change our heating system from steam to hot water. They gave us an estimate, told us that the job was do-able, ripped out part of our system then told us that they made a mistake, that they could not convert radiators that they said they could convert and that it would cost a lot more. They made holes all over our house that we had to fix ourselves. After $40,000 the system has never worked right.
Their ads said free estimates, so when our shower was leaking we called them to get an estimate. He looked at it, said it needed a replacement valve, and that it would cost $600! We passed, went to Home Depot, but the same part for $25. Then they sent as a bill for $118! They claimed they gave free estimates- for everything except valve replacements! I called out their nonsense and they folded on the charges. Never going to call them again!
I had a last-minute plumbing problem 2 days before the sale of my house and was in a panic. They calmly assured me on the phone that they could help - within a couple of hours - and actually showed up earlier than they predicted. Problem fixed cheerfully and efficiently!
I called because my oil fire boiler stopped working and my Oil Tech could not come out. First thanks for answering the phone and scheduling the service call to fit my work schedule ! Second they came out, replaced a part and the boiler was up and running. However, shortly after the service tech left my home the boiler stopped working again. I called the office and spoke to an employee who said they would in fact come back and ensure the boiler was repaired. Sometimes the repairs are a process of elimination and I'm glad they were patient and spent extra time troubleshooting until the issue was resolved. I have heat and hot water and they delivered on their promise! Thank you!
As a general contractor, I have used many plumbing contractors! I now use only one! Kirkland & Shaw!
Family business dedicated to customer service. They are there when I need them, always! And I love it that there's always a plumber on call to help my customers when they have an issue !!
And special kudos to Paulie

Switched over after some bad experiences with another big outfit. These guys did neat work at real fair prices. Pretty good cleanup, not the usual mess, and fast in an emergency. I'll use them again.

Our water heater started leaking so last night I filled out online estimate requests from Kirkland and Shaw and from the Home Depot. Last night I heard back from HD and settled on a price for purchase, installation and removal of our old water heater. Installation was scheduled for today.
This morning , Tom from K&S called and I told him that I had already committed to HD. Soon afterward, the installer from HD called and told me that the earliest install he could do was next Wednesday....which means that my water heater would be leaking for another four plus days. So I called Tom at K&S and, to make a long story short, after a few hours we now have a new water heater and our floors are starting to dry and the cost was virtually the same as at would have been at HD.
Tom gets really high marks for for product knowledge and empathy and I loved Reginald the installer. He was a hard worker with an upbeat personality.
There is no comparison between working with a local outfit and a big box store.

The Kirkland and Shaw folks are very professional, accommodating, and courteous! My newly installed disposal separated from the kitchen sink, leaving a flood and no sink. Luckily. James was in the area and came immediately. He was knowledgeable and replaced the new disposal with an even newer one! Not our choice, but the disposal was too big for its space. They are reputable, but a bit pricey . I absolutely would use them again, and recommend them highly. I even spoke to the actual owner, Steve Kirkland, who was very helpful! I wish the contractor who remodeled our condo kitchen used a firm like this.

Person from Kirkland and Shaw Inc. (Andy) came over to fix an issue with pulsating water in 2 showers.
It took me 5 min. to explain the issue, and took him another 10 min. to replace both shower heads. The water flow was now better.
He stayed a total of 15 minutes.
Later, I get a bill of.... $220! So the plumber was working at a rate of over $15/minute!
Great part of their scam tactics is they are not telling you how much it is beforehand. I didn't get a chance! Before I knew - the 10 minutes was over!
Their ad claims Free estimates! - That's a lie.
The invoice says Material (2 shower heads): $76 - That's another rip-off - the real price is $22. I found online the exact SAME shower head at both Home Depot and Amazon for $11 (instead of $38). So, they ripped me off $50 only on material.
Assuming the shower-head price difference could be an honest mistake, I called their office. Person on the phone, Paul, turns unfriendly as soon as he learns the reason for my call. His whole attitude was as if they get this often but they don't care.

We needed to convert a closet to a laundry space in a small condo. It's not that easy to find one who can do end to end job, from nothing to a nice laundry room including plumber, carpenter and electrician, especially for me who is from west coast and not familiar with Boston at all. I had several plumbers/contractors come to my condo to estimate. I am so glad that I chose Kirkland and Shaw to help us. The reasons are:
1. Steve Kirkland is so professional and knowledgeable about what needed to be done to give us a laundry room. He looked very carefully everywhere he may need to make changes to give us an accurate plan and estimate. What we paid is exactly the amount from the estimate.
2. Steve is a very nice guy. He really cares about his customers, cares about the reputations of his company. He had the city inspector proved the project before and after it's done that I didn't ask, that makes me feel that they are really professional and the quality of the job is insured. The inspector told me that they (another Steve) did an excellent/beautiful job
3. The price is very reasonable and acceptable
4. Another reason I chose them is because the contract they sent to me. It clearly addressed what they are going to do, what needs to be changed, what material they are going to use and they will test it after installation to make sure it works fine. That makes me feel that they are a very responsible company and they are confident about the quality of the job.
We will definitely go to them first if we have any plumbing issues later. Highly recommend them to whoever needs to install a laundry room
This company was recommended to me by the Belmont Mom Groups.
I had them come on a Sunday night to change a sump pump when my basement flooded. Great service at a reasonable price. I hired them again for a bathroom problem. I highly recommend them.

These guys had a stellar rating on AL for water heater installations, so I gave them a try. They arranged the permits, did the install, scheduled the inspection, flexibly rescheduled to accommodate the city inspector, and did it all for the quoted price -- which was half what the Home Depot subcontractors wanted! The plumber on site was courteous and professional, and they even sent me a thank-you note for prompt payment.
The ex-post-facto invoicing was unusual to me (all of the other contractors I've dealt with have demanded payment at time of service), but they cashed my payment check promptly and stuck to the quoted rate, so I would be happy to support this local business again.
We've been using Kirkland & Shaw as our go-to plumbers for years now and they are just a super solid outfit. They show up, they get the job done, they're pleasant to work with, and their pricing is fair.
If you are looking for a local plumbing and heating company, Kirkland and Shaw is the best. My manifold broke and was leaking. Tom Vaughn quickly assessed the situation and within a day sent Joe, a great technician and quickly fixed the problem.
Thank you Tom, Joe and Kirkland and Shaw.
