I called Patey plumber and set up an appointment for my leaking shower tub. They were very busy and I got an appointment for one week later. I thought it's a little bit too far away, but it's also a good sign that many people use their service. So I agreed to wait for a week. Another reason is the price. I called two other plumbers and they either did not return my call or charge $79 for the trip alone, plus high hourly rate. Patey plumber charges $45 for the trip and $92 per hour with minimum of half hour charge. So one would have to pay at least $91 for their service. I don't know why plumbers charge such a high hourly rate, but that's what almost all plumbers I called charge. So I have to reluctantly accept the rate. I patiently waited one week and Patey plumber called exactly the time (8 AM) they were suppose to call me and told me they were on their way to my house.
The guy was very efficient and I provided him with as much help as I can to smooth things out. And he did a wonderful job quickly fixed the leak within less than an hour. We live in a 100 years condo with very old plumbing systems, so that's not easy. I was a little worried that he will milk the rate up like two other reviews suggested, but he did not. He only charged me 40 min of his time which is exactly the time he spent at the job. I asked him to estimate two other leaks and he was very knowledgeable and told me a quick quote without the part price which the secretary called to tell me an hour later.
The whole experience was just as good as it gets. So I am giving them 5 stars. I will call them next time for my plumbing needs.

Run for the hills! I wouldn't use Patey if they were the only plumber in the city!

It took three calls (and leaving messages) to get them to call me back. Then, I made an appointment and they never showed. They didn't even call to reschedule. When I called the office back, they apologized but I was also told that they were very busy, and just couldn't make it. In hindsight: Really? This is how you do business? You're SOL lady?

I should have known then, but foolishly, I rescheduled the appointment.

For the next appointment, they showed up 40 minutes late. The worst part was, they didn't even fix my heating problem. They claimed they did, and happily charged me. But after a few weeks of nothing getting better, I ended up calling an second (much better and more efficient plumber) who came right out, fixed the problem, and sent me  reasonable bill.

My advice is to Stay FAR AWAY from Patey.

Professional but in the end couldn't get the job done. Called them last year for a Leaking shower and a forced hot water system that didn't work: the shower valve was replaced, but it still leaks and the heating system worked fine last year but this year the valve they put on one furnace doesn't work, the one they didn't touch works fine. Still searching for a good plumber.

When it comes to your plumbing, do you really want to take a crack at fixing something, be unsure, and then hold your breath and cross your fingers every time you flush or turn on the hot water? Of course not. That's no way to live.

Call Patey instead of worrying if you're going to flood your downstairs neighbor. They come when they say they do. They're quick, honest, and they get the job done. I've been using them for years. They came out today to fix the float bar on my toilet, which was literally eroding away. I was going to try to fix it myself: I bought the new materials, even.

The guy pulls it out and tells me the old one was made of stainless steel, which is a total no-no--they should be brass. So you also might pick up some helpful tip, too.

Be aware they charge a trip fee of $35 dollars, plus it's $88/hour for labor, half-hour minimum. It's a small price to pay, though, for not having to worry.

Took forever to get an appointment (and only called them because a neighbor referred us to them), then five minutes before they were supposed to be at the house they call out sick with no replacement....waited two more weeks, they promised first appointment at 7:30am...no call no show...I finally called and got the run around..waited til 3:30 for them to tell me they are done for the day....What kind of people do this...If your time is valuable then skip these guys.

One of their employees caused damage to my car while in their work van and refused to pull over. I called management to report them of this and they told me well, you have our information and were not at all helpful.  Extremely unimpressed with their customer service.

I am not sure about the quality of work, but Ellen, the receptionist, promises call backs and doesn't deliver.  I called three times and gave up.

We hired Patey and Sons to hook up a new gas dryer - a quick, basic plumbing job. The plumber milked the hourly fee for all it was worth, and left us with dirty walls without apology.

Worked with Brandon to install an irrigation meter and pressure reducing valves. They showed up when promised, gave a very reasonable estimate. They then showed up on promised date and finished all the work quickly and professionally.  They also promptly came back to fix an issue that resulted from miscommunication. The final price was exactly as promised. Highly recommend.

I had these guys come over and do some simple work for me. I needed a shutoff valve under my sink repaired.  They charge a minimum of a 1/2 hour plus the trip charge, so I figured I would also have them install the new faucet as well. I guessed it would be 15 minutes to replace the shutoff and 15 minutes to replace the faucet. He ended up spending 2 hours at my place.

At first the new faucet wouldn't stop dripping, then the spray attachment started making noise. The guy took the thing apart and put it back together several times and even called the main office to ask for advice. He eventually gave up on the noise and told me I should call the faucet manufacturer. After he left, I looked under the sink, noticed the hose wasn't attached fully and had the problem fixed in about 30 seconds.

I have to give them some leeway. I had already bought the faucet, so maybe it wasn't a brand the guy uses normally. Also, I think he was trying his best. He was very polite and friendly. I don't think he was trying to milk the clock, however I would probably try someone else next time.

Not sure why, but they seem to be listed twice in Yelp.

Four stars for the estimate; unknown for the actual service.

I called George Patey and Sons to get a quote on how much it would cost to clear a clogged garbage disposer that was backing up my kitchen sink and making draining very slow.  The woman who picked up the phone was very professional and informative.  She told me the cost of someone coming out to my apartment would be $45 and then $92/hour after that with a 1/2 hour minimum.  My problem would probably be a quick fix and take less than an hour.  While she couldn't tell me the exact price of the fix (they do have to determine most of the pricing on site), at least she gave me SOME idea of the price (unlike Boston Standard Plumbing and Heating which pointblank REFUSED to give me any estimate at all).

I ended up clearing he garbage disposal myself by a mix of calling a hardware store and searching online (thecarpentersworkshop.co…).  So although I didn't actually get service from this place, I have to say they were professional and upfront about their prices at least!  I would use them again for a trickier plumbing problem.

Also, they work 7.30am - 3.30pm so call a day or two in advance for a guaranteed morning appointment, otherwise they put you on a waiting list for the day of (which may work out or may not according to how busy they are that day.)

I called Patey this morning and they appeared within one hour.  This is probably about the fourth time they have responded within hours.  And the plumbers are knowledgeable and friendly as well -

After getting what I thought was a wildly over priced and vague estimate for a simple faucet replacement from a plumber that my condo mgmt company recommended, I called my local hardware store Connelly Hardware for a different plumber recommendation.  They suggested George Patey & Sons Plumbing.  I called and spoke to the pleasant woman who books their appointments and she was specific with their rate information.  She provided me with an appointment day and time frame and she called me as soon as the plumber was able to come over to start my job (which was pretty much right on time with the beginning of the window I was given).  The plumber who came over was nice and polite.  He got right to work and finished the job in what I figured to be the alloted time.  When he was done he took my old faucet pieces to recycle at the office and gave me the bill which was exactly what I hoped/expected it would be.  I am so happy I called Patey & Sons.  From my experience they are honest, reasonable and polite.  In my case they were completely up front with their fees and tried to give me as much information as possible. It is just so refreshing to have a company that will do honest work and not try to scam the consumer.   Not that I want to jinx myself, but I will definitely call them again when I have a plumbing issue.  And will absolutely recommend them to anyone I know.  Thank you!
