When it comes to your plumbing, do you really want to take a crack at fixing something, be unsure, and then hold your breath and cross your fingers every time you flush or turn on the hot water? Of course not. That's no way to live.
Call Patey instead of worrying if you're going to flood your downstairs neighbor. They come when they say they do. They're quick, honest, and they get the job done. I've been using them for years. They came out today to fix the float bar on my toilet, which was literally eroding away. I was going to try to fix it myself: I bought the new materials, even.
The guy pulls it out and tells me the old one was made of stainless steel, which is a total no-no--they should be brass. So you also might pick up some helpful tip, too.
Be aware they charge a trip fee of $35 dollars, plus it's $88/hour for labor, half-hour minimum. It's a small price to pay, though, for not having to worry.
