Our sub pump was stuck on, so I called Stephens the first thing in the morning. I spoke with Kevin & he explained thoroughly what he thought what the problem was. He even gave me an estimate over the phone! Imagine that.

Chris was our Tech, he arrived quickly & explained what he found, & advised what the best solution would be. The new pump was installed in about an hour. The best thing - they are reasonably priced!

We used them before last year to clear our clogged sewer line, they did a great job, & again were reasonably priced! - Take that Precision!

We will not hesitate to call them again if needed & highly recommend using them if you live in Downers Grove area.

Excellent service from Stephen's plumbing today for a kitchen sink and bathroom toilet problem.  Called this morning  and they were here within a couple of hours.  Jason provided Excellent, efficient and professional service!! Will definitely call them again!!

I have read a review that was negative about a clogged drain.
They paid 375 or something. And were unhappy about having to call someone else to finally fix it .

I had a family friend who spent 10 hours with two people trying to unclog from the house to the street.
We had a caregiver for an elderly person who didn't understand large wipes don't go in the toilet.

The first charge was like $1,000
And the rodded out 10-5 gallons of wipes.
.it was still running slow and they came back and spent another 10 hours for 2 people to keep rodding out the sewer until they went to the street and heard it was running freely.

You got of lightly.

If these family friends had not kept trying to get past the roots if the tree in the yard it would have required digging up the whole yard and relaying the whole sewer.

All I mean to say is you may have been disappointed by a less than $400 bill for rodding out a sewer but it can be a tough job.

Next subject. I have used Stephens Plumbing for over 30 years in Downers Grove.
Yes they are a premium plumbing company.
But, they has e always backed their work.
They lived in the neighborhood and their kids played all the sports etc.
If you were unhappy then you should have brought it up to the owner.

I like to have everything go smooth but the true judge I use for a service company is how they handle an unhappy costumer.

I have always been holy with them and ik is if you brought it up to Matt who was the owner when I dealt with them, he would have taken care of the problem.
I have never heard of a dissatisfied costumer that didn't get their problem resolved.

It is a fair and responsible company.
Give them a chance to resolve the problem.
Ask to speak to the own6, he is vert5 approachable.

These guys came out next day. Pricing seemed fair for a leaky pipe repair in my crawlspace.

I don't need to get into the how or the why around a 10 week disaster of getting our washer and dryer delivered from another vendor. That's not the important part. The important part was that we needed someone to install these appliances because we no longer had faith in the original company to install a new exhaust pipe for the dryer and then hook up the new equipment.

Brian was our technician and they showed up on time and were very professional, courteous, knowledgable, and got right to work. They told me what would happen, what to expect, and alerted me to a few potential things that COULD go wrong (they didn't, but they wanted there to be no surprises).

Beyond that, they knew exactly how to handle the exhaust install that the previous owners ruined (if you're going to do-it-yourself, please, do it right...).

This company was so fast to respond to the initial request and they also were able to reschedule when one of our 4 deliveries was thwarted due to a damaged appliance.

If you're still reading, you might need a hobby. Just call Stephens, already.

About a year ago, we had them come out to rod out our main sewer line, as our floor drain was backing up, mostly when doing laundry in the same room. The guy that came out was very nice and assured us his repair would last us at least 3-5 YEARS.

It's happening again. I called only to find out that while we were told it would last 3-5 years, THEY ONLY WARRANTEE THEIR WORK FOR 30 DAYS!

Very disappointed in the company. Will be calling others for this 2nd of the same repair! I won't give them another $375 only to have to call them again in another year!!!

We scheduled a service call and were able to get someone to arrive within 45 minutes of our call.  John serviced our furnace and humidifer and fixed a couple of problems.  His experience helped him isolate the problems quickly and resolve them.  He did a great job.  We're happy with Stephens, based on this, our first experience with them.

Been a client for over 25 years. They again came to my assistance recently when my hot water heater went out causing a mess. Brian performed the install and restored service in a very reasonable time. Additionally, their price  was more than reasonable for the urgency and scope of services. Great service and good employees who are competent, consistent and reliable!

About 14 months ago, we had this company come out as water was coming up from out floor drain in the laundry room. The plumber who came out was very nice and worked very hard to find the problem. He rodded out the main line through the cleanout, easily accessed in the garage. He said his repair should easily last us 3-5 YEARS,

Well, 14 months later and it's happening again. I called the company only to find out that while our plumber said his repair would last a few years, THE COMPANY ONLY WARRANTIES THEIR WORK FOR 30 DAYS!

Out of principle, I will NOT have them back, only to possibly go through this AGAIN next year! I cannot, in good conscience, pay them to try to fix it again for another $375 now, and possibly again next year!!!

Never had this problem with ABC, so they'll come out to correct this companies shoddy work.

Stephens plumbing is fair and reasonable.  They came out quickly and did the job for less than half the cost Jay's Plumbing wanted.  Additionally, their products are far more fairly priced.  Where Jay's wanted five times the cost for a garbage disposal sold at Home Depot, Stephens was only $50 more.  And they were happy to let me buy it from Home Depot and still install it.  Don installed it and rodded out my drain in less time than was originally suggested, saving me on labor.  He also was able to fix a couple of things that needed to be done in that time.  Thanks, Stephens! I will be calling on you in the future.

Called early in the morning because we noticed that our basement utility sink was backed up. They were able to get out to fix it within 2 hours. The technician was considerate, efficient, and even shared some tips to prevent future issues. Highly recommended.

The posters who commented on the front desk woman were spot on. Nothing has changed in that dept. She is rude, dismissive, talks over you and generally acts like you're annoying her and she's doing you a big favor to even take your call. Her personality is somewhere between disgruntled lunch lady and tow truck company receptionist. Must be a relative of the owner. Anyone else would have been bounced ages ago. That coupled with the fact I couldn't get a call back about scheduling an install because they just plain forgot about me made me take my business where it may be appreciated. I figured if this is the type of service I could expect when trying to give them my money how are they going to act if there is an issue?

If I could give these guys 12 stars I would!  Our air conditioning stopped working right at the beginning of a heat wave. They came out quick and got it fixed ASAP for a lot less money than I expected.  John (the air conditioning whisperer) and Chris (Cody) were utterly amazing. Not only did they know what they were doing but they were honest and had integrity!  I've used Stephens for maintenance before but after this, we will never use any other service!

This company goes the extra mile to help you out. I have had plumbing and heating emergencies and in every case, they have helped out and were an answer to prayer. My mother uses them also because big or small everything is done very well and for a reasonable price. They even have 24-hour service with a higher fee for after hours. It is worth it for those emergencies. They are also great detectives and find the problem and present solutions. From Jackie that answers the phone to all the techs that come out, you can't get better quality of service. Thank you Stephens Plumbing and Heating.

Our neighbor recommended Kelly because we were having some big issues that none of our handymen could fix. He was terrific! Very professional, nice and fixed everything in no time at all. Plumbers are so expensive, but we will definitely call Kelly again next time we have any bigger issues.

Recently moved into a new home and the unit had been serviced by this company they had no problem turning on and changing filters before per the service label on the unit. Apparently they would rather replace a  working unit because it's just old than actually do any upkeep since it is not worth their time

Loved that they showed up in a face mask.  Came when they said they would and were fast and efficient.  They are on my call list.

Of course on the hottest day when we needed air conditioning, ours failed. Since we have used Stephens for many years, we had confidence in brands they recommend as well as service they provide. They were swamped but came within a couple days, and since we had an old system, took the time to bring us up to date on new equipment, laying out options of cost and efficiency. We also needed a new heating system and water heater. All in all, they replaced everything, were extremely neat, and considerate of our schedule by coming a day earlier than they had planned, and finished in the time frame they predicted....an expensive project so wanted, and got, reliable skilled workmen.

I live in a 2nd floor condo. Leaks can really cause problems for the unit below to say nothing of strained relations.

Gas hot water heater started leaking, called Stephens at 10 a.m. and by 3 p.m.  had a new heater installed.

Ryan and Kevin were very courteous, professional and cleaned up afterward. They even removed two mice, toy mice my cats managed to hide under the old heater.

I rate them a 5 star because everything with them was straight forward. I definitely recommend Stephens.

They sell good quality products. I purchased equipment and installed it myself.  I never ended up using them to do the actual work though because they seem a bit overpriced and I found two of their guys to be rude and offensive...to my face.  One of them made a visit to my house for an estimate and seemed easily frustrated and upset that he couldn't find the main sewer line to my house and was upset that I did not know where it was.  On top that, their estimate was WAY over the top.  One of their younger guys is sarcastic know-it-all that will laugh in your face, and that was enough to get me go elsewhere.  

Bottom line...their shop may be full of high quality supplies, but low quality, worthless plumbers.

Stephen apparently is one to not care about his name....

These folks are very reliable; show up when they say they are going to show up, and they are professional.  We have used them for plumbing and HVAC and have always been pleased.

These guys are top notch fair priced and honest I would recommend for any Plumbing job. We had Dan out to our house he know his stuff can't go wrong with this company!!!!!!

Honest, reliable, skilled and competent with super professional service! Robert Bair charged me a ton of money over two visits and were either too stupid or too lazy to properly check and fix the problem. Along comes Stephen's plumbing and fixed it! I will stick with Stephen's plumbing from now on.

Have used this company at least two times in the past.  Both times the plumbers were professional and very helpful.  One even called my tenant directly to help address I was having at that time.

Fabulous Plumbing and Heating business.  Wonderful customer service, excellent repair people working for them.  Very courteous, so neat as they work and they clean up before they leave a job and it looks like no one was here making a mess.  Very knowledgeable when it comes to any  appliance you might need. Ive been dealing with them for years.  Good people, honest.   William just put in a garbage disposal for me and he was excellent... He helped me understand a little more about disposal's.
I thought I was doing all the right things, but I actually broke it.  Anyway great company.  Thank you for great service always...

I needed my sewer rodded because it was backing up.  Called someone else in an emergency and they charged me $440 and they said Found a lot of tree roots and can not break free.  They tried to sell me on digging up my front yard to repair for $3500.

I got a second opinion from the city and they said it just need to be rodded and nothing was damaged and didn't need to be dug up.

I called Stephens and they charged me $305 an was done in under an hour.  Got it cleaned out with no issues.  

They have my business moving forward.

Outstanding service.  Very trustworthy.  Stephens Plumbing was recommended by a friend.  I said I had two jobs: replacement of all toilet parts in my powder room and rodding a bathtub.  I was ready to pay for both.  Instead, the plumber, Dan, explained that I only needed some of the toilet parts replaced and the tub drain needed to be cleaned, but rodding wasn't necessary.  I'm very happy with their service and highly recommend them.

We called Stephens Plumbing for an estimate on installation of overhead sewers in our home.  We called them first because we had heard such great things and seen great reviews for them.  Unfortunately, we must have gotten the same patronizing, sarcastic plumber as one of the previous reviewers had mentioned.  He first asked me to tell him where the sewer pipes ran under my basement floor and seemed annoyed that I didn't know.  He then figured out where he thought they should be and proceeded to explain a different solution to our problem than an overhead sewer.  He also mentioned that Stephens does not do this alternate work so call someone else.  We again requested a quote for the overhead sewer as the village will assist in paying for that and we needed to provide quotes to them for reimbursement.  He asked if we wanted the quote mailed or emailed and we requested he email it.  Even though we expressed a need to make repairs fairly quickly as we had discovered there is a broken pipe under the basement floor, he advised us that his quote would take 2 weeks but he would try to speed it up.  My husband called after 1 1/2 weeks to see if the quote was ready and the plumber told him that he was waiting for us to tell him what to do about the broken pipe and that the village wouldn't pay to re-plumb your entire house.  He told my husband he would have to come out to our house again and look at what we had to figure out what needed to be done.  I thought that was what the original visit was for.  Obviously, he doesn't want our business and we still don't have a quote for the overhead sewer. Nor is the quote on its way since apparently, he's still waiting for us to tell him how to do his job. Very disappointed after hearing such good things about this company.  We'll take our costly plumbing job elsewhere.

Experienced bad customer service at the first call trying to hire them for my plumbing issues.  Woman on the phone was rude, unhelpful,  uninterested in explaining things to me... seemed uninterested in my business.  It seemed a bother even taking a call from me.  She seemed to know how awful she was acting because she would not even tell me her name...hmmmm...  wonder if complaints come in often about her and she was worried...  Had a faucet that had low water flow.  wasn't sure what problem was or what was involved.. (ended up having to break a wall and replace several pipes).... but wanted a plumber to come and take a look and see what was involved
.. I expected to pay....  She gave me such trouble trying to make an appointment . Saying they will only come to do work that they dont waste their time coming to assess.  How do I know what is needed to be done...how much money is involved in repair...that a wall needs to be taken down and time off work was needed, etc unless a plumber comes to take a look.  Without knowing what work needs to be done how can a customer make such a decision over the phone... she didn't explain anything clearly just that coming out to assess my problem was a waste for them.... even tho I expected to pay for initial visit to my house....  it could have been a simple clog or a mini remodel...how does a person calling a plumber know... but coming to help me was a waste of time for them...  I decided to move on and call another local plumber...who ended up having amazing customer service start to finish...   they assessed, educated me well on demolition and came and replaced my pipes with great service and expertise.   pass this plumber and their attitude up!

My office just got serviced by this company and the two guys that came were very nice and were able to fix our plumbing problem right away. Not to mention that the two guys were very nice to look at as well :) We will definitely be calling them again if there is ever another problem.

Called Sunday evening requesting early a.m. service on backed up sink. They called first thing and did both my main sewer line and sink for $400. They waived the service charge on the sink and finished before I had to leave for work as I requested. Nothing bad to say!

We had a waste line back up in our house on a Friday night, so we called Stephens as our prior plumbing service is out of business. Received a quick return call (within minutes) from Chris. Rather than say, We'll be right there for what would be a very expensive service, he asked some questions and gave some directions on trying to see if there was a quick DIY remedy. With the assistance of a friend, I cleared (at least partially) some blockage in the outside line where we determined the issue to be.  Saturday morning, line was all clear (so it seemed), but still called Tony and scheduled professional rodding of the line.  Glad we did, because we had another leak on Thursday afternoon prior to our Friday appointment. Chris was here promptly at 8:40 and finished rodding the line by 9:25 removing expected tree roots for what is a flat $300 service.  Very professional, efficient and did not try to push any other services on us. We truly appreciated they did not try to take advantage of an urgent situation by rushing us into emergency services at a high cost to us, and it was for these reasons that we've made them our new plumbing contractors!

They said they were calling the manufacturer of the Shower faucet  and coming back and he never did. I had some camera care that you're not missing out of my condo is well at the same time the plumber was here. Talk to a police officer and asked for paperwork and they never sent me a receipt all I have is text messages from there so phone and a picture of the guy when I videotaped the Faucet still dripping.

Highly recommend Jason from Stephens plumbing. Our kitchen sink needed to be unclogged by using a power auger. We also needed a pipe replaced.  The price was very reasonable.

Jason was very professional, knowledgeable and answered all of our questions.  When calling Stephens, you can request the person you want.

I purchased a home that had heating, AC, plumbing all exclusively installed and maintained by Stephen's Plumbing.
Apparently the previous homeowner did not know they were being swindled.
In one zone, Stephen's charged for installation and later maintenance of a humidifer; however there is no water line attached, nor is one located within 20 feet.
There were also gaps in the main duct attached to the same zone above, that were large enough to stick your hand into it.
I decided to check them out and talk to them in the store after they charged me $225 in labor (labor only) for 3# Refrigerant; well, OTC they charged me double the going rate for an air filter ($70+).

We have used Stephen's many times for heating, AC and plumbing at both our Home and a Rental House that used to be our home.  Both are 5 BR, 4Bath houses with multiple heating/AC systems and plumbing to support a big family.  I have always felt like Stephen's does a quality job, and does only what is needed.  There have been a couple of times where they frankly could have taken advantage of me.  But they didn't, what they recommended is what I think they would have done if it was their own home and if they were paying.  I really appreciate that...They come quickly, they warn you if it's going to be overtime, and they do what they think is right.  I trust them more than any other service business.
It's a bit hard for me to rate this kind of service 5 stars, but I have zero reason not to.  For 20 years they have always treated me like a valued customer that want my repeat business more than they want a quick buck.

This is a very reputable and decent company.  I have used them in many cases.  The first time was a backup of sewer water in my basement on a day I was having a big family party- of course!   John came out and found that tree roots were to blame and we had it resolved in a matter of a few hours.  A year later or so- we had our furnace fail in late November on a very cold  night.  John again came out the next morning and it was fixed by noon.  They are very courteous (especially John)  and neat and are also reasonable- especially for emergency service.  They are my go to pluming/heating and I would recommend strongly to anyone.

We live in a first floor condo and discovered water backing up into our kitchen sink from the units above. The condo association contracts with Stephens plumbing, and a plumber was dispatched to our place very quickly. He roto-rooted the pipes, and had the huge clog undone in short order.

The plumber was professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Even though we didn't have to pay because our condo association covers these charges, I would recommend Stephens for anyone in the area looking for a plumber.

I have had nothing but positive experiences with Kelly from Stephens Plumbing. Over the past year our 28 year old home has had several issues and Kelly expertly repaired all issues. He is extremely professional and courteous. No problem ever recommending Stephens Plumbing!

Stephens had the parts I needed to repair an older hot water in stock.  They did not try and sell me more than I needed as other vendors did.  Kevin was helpful in making sure that I was familiar with the assembling of the parts in the proper fashion.  Courteous, helpful, and more than competitive on price.  Can't ask for more.

Had to call them out late on a Sunday night for an emergency leak.  They came out quickly, assessed the situation and shut off the leak within minutes.  They provided all the equipment necessary, they would not even use our buckets or rags!!  The charges were fair for an emergency call even on a Sunday.  They even contacted me the next day to make sure the problem was solved.  Clean and professional.

Dan came out when my heating went down. Loved Dan. The only prob is that I am deaf and unable to schedule appointments. Well, they began a text messaging relationship for me. I was so happy. Only problem is the heat again went down a month later over a weekend. And although Dan works weekends, the person texting did not so they lost my business that day.

I highly recommend Stephens Plumbing.  They fixed a badly clogged sink and basement line.  Chip was prompt, professional, knowledgeable, friendly, explained things,  and did not try to sell me on additional work.  I had a different company out the day before who had quoted $639 for the same work Stephens Plumbing did for $320 - need I say more?

our toilet got clogged on a saturday morning and these guys arrived in an hour - not bad at all for an emergency situation! timely, professional, and very helpful, i would recommend them for any plumbing issue. prices were reasonable given how quickly they arrived and fixed the problem.

I had some plumbing work done a few weeks ago to repair a leaky bathtub faucet. They couldn't come out the day I called them, but they did the next day. I sent a FAX to the office before I called to give the plumber an idea of the part involved.  He knew which brand/part it was right off the bat.  These are 30 year old fixtures but Stephen's Plumbing does carry parts for old fixtures.  Thankfully, the old came off easily and the repair was a success.  I also had the plumber replace the diverter spout since that was a problem too.  He had one on the truck.  Since the other bathtub had the same type of valve as the leaky one, I asked if that should be changed since I am worried about parts becoming unavailable.  The plumber could have been unscrupulous, but said that it really isn't necessary as long as I am not having trouble.  He said it may last one week or 10 years.  It is nice that he did not take advantage of me  and say that the valve should be changed before they stop making any.

The worker did a good job of keeping things clean, cleaning up, caulking, answering my questions and not minding that I was watching him work over his shoulder.  The price was very reasonable and not a rip off as I have had experience in the past with other companies.

I do have more work that will be needed soon.  I will use this company again and may even ask for the same plumber.

We called them because we noticed a wet patch on the ceiling which is below a second floor bathroom. Rick arrived the same morning, diagnosed the problem quickly and fixed it . we payed 250 in labor for the 1.5 hour and 30 something in material cost.  he did a good job and it was worth the expensive rate.
