Here is why I give 4 Seasons ONE STAR: After I had been with them for 25 years, their service deteriorated over time, I finally woke up and compared them to SHAVITZ and I have found by comparison 4 Seasons provides very poor customer service and follow through, and they don't carry the best line of equipment, CARRIER, that SHAVITZ does
I had them for service for many years .. never thought about it much Until they really performed so poorly in a recent extensive experience with them. Then I learned about SHAVITZ and had them come out for service for Fall and Spring -- WOW NIGHT AND DAY difference. Shavitz gave me detailed feedback about my heating in the fall and detailed information about my AC in Spring.
My bad experience? I have two townhomes, merged, with two separate systems. I need a new AC in one of them - 4seasons came out to estimate the repair, and also to give a quote for a new system. They charged $85. (SHAVITZ did this for free.) Although 4 Seasons has been servicing my units for for 25 years, they forgot to bring a tall ladder?? I had to reschedule. This is a pretty basic drop out .... a 25 year old customer and too short a ladder.
The service guy apologized, said the account notes specifically say to bring an extra long ladder. This is a sign that the company is poorly run. It would have been no big deal, if they had actually done what they said they would do. After rescheduling for a longer ladder and getting onto the roof, They NEVER sent a quote to me.
I called a week later ... oh they didn't bother to send a quote as promised, and never called because their crane subcontractor said they can't get a crane to my townhouse. So they just dropped me out. Really?, I said, 4 seasons installed a new AC in 2004. How did they do that? Plus my condo association has 24 identical townhomes, and we all have rooftop AC units. Cranes have accessed these rooms for 5 Decades. Over and over and over. Four seasons can't find a crane company? They can't find a long ladder? they can't find my phone number to apologize for failing to send a quote as promised? They can't find any quality manager to upgrade the quality of their customer service?
The account manager said the crane company said they can't get in. I suggested they get another crane company since there is plenty of access, maybe try a company such as the one they used to install my unit 12 years ago, or one of the many that service my 23 neighbors. I suggested they would lose a 25 year old customer w/ two systems they had serviced for 25 years. The guy just didn't get it. Nope, it must be an illusion that there are 24 rooftop air conditioners in my association.
However, hope arose again, as TOM Ext 5159, in Accounts called back - Oh, so sorry ... i will get an email out to you right away this afternoon with a quote!
He never did. DROPPED ME OUT AGAIN! I called two days later - I am chasing them - I have been with them 25 years!!, ... So sorry, gee, I thought i sent it ... you never got it? Its $5.700 but .... well, we have a crane problem, so I can't do the job.
So they lost me, a 25 year old customer to SHAVITZ in Skokie. They are impeccable in their last two service calls I arranged in order to check them out, always return the calls, provide detailed info when they service a system. AND THEY PROVIDED A GREAT QUOTE ON A NEW AC CARRIER SYSTEM! They offered immediate install.
Check them out on YELP ... They have better service, AND much better brand of equipment, they carry CARRIER, (4 seasons carries only Lennox) Lennox is a MUCH WORSE BRAND.
Here is one website review by a leading national installer of both systems - they FAR PREFER CARRIER: In our experience and in talking to other Lennox customers, we have often times been called out for repairs on relatively new Lennox furnaces, some even less than a year old. Why? From what we can tell, Lennox parts seem to wear out quicker than their competitors. But that's not all: Probably the biggest disadvantage of purchasing a Lennox furnace is how hard it is to find replacement parts, the parts are expensive and don't last as long as competitors. the CARRIER really proves itself in the reliability, repair and cost departments so I offer the following advice: although we will (rarely) install Lennox products if consumers have their heart set on it, if it were up to me. I'd recommend you go with the CARRIER brand - Lennox just isn't worth the money in my opinion.
Another national installer says on their website: One area in which Carrier clearly excels is technology!
So after 25 years as a repeat customer, 4 seasons has lost me because their service has deteriorated to far less than acceptable, and after a careful product review, I find they don't carry as good a product as SHAVITZ.
So I am lucky 4 seasons failed me because now I will have a much better system, a better servicer/installer, and I would not have known otherwise.
