aka SAVE-MORE HAWAII PLUMBING, aka SAVE-MORE PLUMBING & SOLAR aka Rik Sorensen, aka Ross Sorensen.
I called these guys after getting their number off the side of their van because I had an emergency situation where my cold water in my shower could not be turned off and so much water was being wasted. Our water main would not shut off completely either so I had no way of stopping it.
Rik arrived at the scheduled time and in slippers.. After just quickly looking at the shower handle he told me he could not fix the shower valve without turning off the water at the main and so the main would have to be fixed first then the shower. He could schedule fixing both for the next day. Then he spent about a half hour digging the area around the water main to prepare it for he next day, then he took apart a drain in the kitchen I needed cleared and told me he would have to do that the next day too as he needed a different snake than the one he had on his truck. He asked for a $600 dollar deposit to buy the part to fix the main which granted is very expensive , and said the job would be at least$1200 but very possibly more. He 'had no way of knowing He asked that the deposit check to be made out to him, not the company. It seemed a bit unprofessional but I gave him the check because other plumbers had not answered my calls all weekend and the water had already been running for 2 days. I felt desperate as money was going down the drain. the constant noise of the water was driving me crazy.
I am an on site property manager so when he left I called to make sure the expense was approved and was told no and that I had to get other estimates. so I had to cancel the job. I called Rik within a half hour of his leaving to tell him to cancel but he never answered his phone so I called the bank and stopped the payment on the check. He called 2 hours later from the bank when he couldn't cash the check. I explained to him what happened and that I was sorry and would pay him for what he did that day but that I had to cancel the job for the next day. This guy who had previously been so nice and friendly got very hostile and aggressive. On the phone when I said I was sorry he actually said said YOUR SORRY?? He came back and after talking to me very aggressively and acting angry he presented me for a bill for $371.00!
He had been at my house that day for a total of about 4 hours. In that time he dug part of a a 1.5 x2x3 foot hole using my pic. and took apart the kitchen sink pipe and talked. to me, to other people and on the phone, and walked around. 45 min actual work maybe,. Including taking on the phone discussing the job then altogether about 1 hour.
He had billed me for equipment deliveryalso. When I asked what equipment as the job had been scheduled for the next day and he had neither purchased or delivered anything to me yet. He said he had someone pick up some equipment he needed for the job from the North Shore and deliver it to his warehouse in Kalihi. Then he said had it in his van and considered it delivered because he was here with the van and that I just needed to trust the plumber He wouldn't show me the equipment .
Anyway.... I gave him $300 For his work and trouble. He was still unhappy and saying his company would just have to eat the loss of the $71. Then he gave me a hard time asking me how he could trust this check was good as the other one bounced. He apparently did not know the difference between a bounced and a stopped check. He left me with my water still going down the drain and my kitchen pipes still apart.
I couldn't get another plumber out for 2 days. When that plumber arrived he proceeded to replace my shower valves, hot and cold, without needing to turn off the main. He was done in less that 45 minutes even replaced the caulking and did a beautiful job! $228.00! He didn't tell me how hard and complicated the job was was, he had everything he needed in his truck and he just did it, in a very professional manner. Easy (for me)! Imagine that, what a blessing and a relief !! Apparently there is a little screw you can turn inside the handle that shuts off the water to that valve so it can be repaired / replaced. Being a professional plumber he had that knowledge,
I guess either Rik didn't know that or didn't want me to let me know that so I would think I had to fix the main, and it cost me 2 extra days of water and sewer charges.
Doing business with Rik gave me Deja Vous of Gypsy Auto body repair guys and the shade tree car mechanics I have made the mistake of doing business with, before I knew better. Yea it might be a little cheaper (or not) BUT........................
