Avoid. Had a simple issue that someone already took a look at and told me it is a 20 minute job and to fix it myself. I work a lot and value my days off so I decided to call this company to get it fixed anyway. The dude quotes me a price for 2 hours I told him it won't take that long. He went down to 1.5 hours and we agreed that that he start work and see how long it takes. It took under 30 minutes to include him going to his car twice. He still charged me for 1.5 hours and refused to warranty hooking up the dishwasher which needs to be unhooked and completely removed to even do this job. I had unhooked it for him a week before I finally hired a plumber. He made me hook it up by myself after he left even though it was clearly part of the job. There are plenty of better plumbers out there (see my review to come for All-area plumbing), please avoid.

Never got a call back after leaving a message for what I assumed to be a simple fix.  Maybe the job was too small or too far?  Maybe he simply forgot to call back.

People calling due to plumbing issues should get an answer either way.  Either yes, I'll be there or no, I can't make it.  Simply being left to wonder doesn't fly.  One star sir.

According to other reviewers, you're great at what you do.  Their reviews are exactly why I called you first, but your lack of a return call means I went to the next best reviewed and had great success and proceeded to give 5 stars.

I've been calling and calling and calling and Rik won't pick up his phone. The job he did on my bathtub faucets a few months ago started leaking. No wait--STREAMING. We were losing BATHTUBS of water on a DAILY basis!

I called and called to see if he knew what was wrong and could come take a look at it, and I left him messages but he never got back to me.

I had to call another plumber, and he came and looked at it, and said that there were pieces MISSING from the fixtures that he replaced!!!

SO IRRITATING! T_T

I tried Da Hawaiian Plumber because he got good reviews, but seriously... Don't do it. And at this point, he's not eve answering his phone anymore, so you probably can't. But just don't go to this guy.

FIND SOMEONE ELSE!

Yeah, these guys are legit. I called them out for a leaky toilet tank and told them not a rush job, just get to it whenever you can in the next few days They were at my house within 2 hrs.

I would fully recommend these guys. Seemed very honest, and was straight forward about what I needed and recommended a couple of solutions.

Rik is great.  He showed up within an hour of my calling him.  He is punctual and really just a nice guy.  He tried to remove a phone from the toilet, but it wouldn't come out.  When it came to replacing the toilet, he took my recommendation on where to get a less expensive toilet when the toilet he found was $600.  When I called the store to ask how much the toilet was that he purchased, they told me it was $501.  Rik gets a contractor discount (which they don't quote), but I fully expected he would charge the list price. When I asked Rik the cost of the toilet, he told me $455, which is under the list price.  He could easily charge clients ($501 + tax), but he did not.  I was shocked.  Talk about an honest guy.  I highly recommend  him if you are looking for someone who is professional, nice, hardworking, and who won't rip you off.

AVOID. He came to fix our leaking bath facuets ($500), and here we are a couple months later having to call another plumber. Why? Because Rick has not answered his phone for the past week and has not returned any messages. Old houses have problems, so we weren't upset - we just wanted to talk to him and see what he thought about why it was leaking again, not knowing if it was the job he did or just our old house.

The plumber we have now immediately asked who fixed it last and said to have him come back and fix his work because he installed the wrong parts. We told him we've tried calling the last plumber with no reply, so we're paying the new plumber to fix it now.

This company has good reviews on Yelp but don't let that fool you. I see another review in the past month that says he's not answering/returning calls either, so maybe he went out of business or something else came up. If that's the case, he should change his voicemail so current and perspective customers don't waste their time.

AVOID!!

aka SAVE-MORE HAWAII PLUMBING, aka SAVE-MORE PLUMBING & SOLAR aka Rik Sorensen, aka Ross Sorensen.
I called these guys after getting their number off the side of their van because I had an emergency situation where my cold water in my shower could not be  turned  off and so much water was being wasted. Our water main would not shut off completely either so I had no way of stopping it.
Rik arrived at the scheduled time and in slippers.. After  just quickly looking at the shower handle he told me he could not fix the shower valve without turning off the water at the main and so the main would have to be fixed first then the shower. He could schedule fixing both  for the next day. Then he spent about a half hour digging the area around the water main to prepare it for he next day, then he took apart a drain in the kitchen I needed cleared and told me he would have to do that the next day too as he needed a different snake than the one he had on his truck. He asked for a $600 dollar deposit to buy the part to fix the main which granted is very expensive , and said the job would be at least$1200 but very possibly more. He 'had no way of knowing He asked that the deposit check to be made out to him, not the company. It seemed a bit unprofessional but  I gave him the check  because other plumbers had not answered my calls all weekend and the water had already been running for 2 days. I felt desperate as money was going down the drain. the constant noise of the water was driving me crazy.
I am an on site property manager so when he left I called to make sure the expense was approved  and was told no and  that I had to get other estimates. so I had to cancel the job. I called Rik within a half hour of his leaving to tell him to cancel but he never answered his phone so I called the bank and stopped the payment on the check. He called 2 hours later from the bank when he couldn't cash the check. I explained to him what happened and that I was sorry and would pay him for what he did that day but that I had to cancel the job for the next day. This guy who had previously been so nice and friendly got very hostile and aggressive. On the phone when I said I was sorry he actually said said YOUR SORRY??  He came back and after talking to me very aggressively and acting angry he presented me for a bill for $371.00!
He had been at my house  that day for a total of about 4 hours. In that time he dug part of a a 1.5 x2x3 foot hole using my pic. and took apart the kitchen sink pipe and talked. to me, to other people and on the phone, and walked around. 45 min actual work maybe,. Including taking on the phone discussing the job  then altogether about 1 hour.
He had billed me for equipment deliveryalso.  When I asked what equipment as the job had been scheduled for the next day and he had neither purchased or delivered anything to me yet. He said he had someone pick up some equipment he needed for the job  from the North Shore and deliver it to his warehouse in Kalihi. Then he said had it in his van and considered it delivered because he was here with the van and that I just needed to trust the plumber He wouldn't show me the equipment .
Anyway.... I gave him $300 For his work and trouble. He was still unhappy and saying his company would just have to eat the loss of the $71. Then he gave me a hard time asking me how he could trust this check was good as the other one bounced. He apparently did not know the difference between a bounced and a stopped check. He left me with my water still going down the drain and my kitchen pipes still apart.

I couldn't  get another plumber out for 2 days.  When that plumber arrived he proceeded to replace my shower valves, hot and cold, without needing to turn off the main. He was done in less that 45 minutes even replaced the caulking and did a beautiful job! $228.00! He didn't tell me how hard and complicated the job was was, he had everything he needed in his truck and he just did it, in a very professional manner.  Easy (for me)!  Imagine that, what a blessing and a relief !!  Apparently there is a little screw you can turn inside the handle that shuts off the water to that valve so it can be repaired / replaced. Being a professional plumber he had that knowledge,
I guess either Rik didn't know that or didn't want me to let me know that so I would think I  had to fix the main, and it cost me 2 extra days of water and sewer charges.

Doing business with Rik gave me Deja Vous of Gypsy Auto body repair guys and the shade tree car mechanics I have made the mistake of doing business with,  before I knew better. Yea it might be a little cheaper (or not) BUT........................

I'm back, and after a 3 days of having Rik and his apprentice Manu on site redoing the piping, I am impressed! He did a fabulous job, on time, very reasonably priced, and extremely professional. Rik - The house thanks you..... as do I!

After trying for about a week to get a plumber to clear a simple clogged line, I was getting fustrated.  Either they don't work the hours I would be home (since I do work) or they didn't want to travel from their home/shop to downtown.  I never thought it would be so difficult to pay for and get a plumber to come to your house!

Rik was awesome.  He came the same day I called him.  Right on time, not to mention he was understanding that we were a little late due to traffic.  He got right to work and cleared our plug in about 30 minutes.  Rik is not a small fellow, but he squeezed right in there under the kitchen sink!  He was quick, professional, and on-time.  His prices were par for the course, but his service is excellent.  Think I found a new go-to plumber.

I called Rik because of the great YELP reviews. I too will give the highest rating.
Rik answered his phone promptly, gave me a day and time and arrived when promised.
The work was professional, clean and fast.
The price was reasonable , everything was itemized and he said to call if any problems.

Will use him again for plumbing issues and would highly recommend these folks.

Even though we ended up not using this company because of other complicated reasons by our building management, I think this is a good company, very reasonable price and quick response. I will definitely use them next time.
Thanks Rick

Rick found time to come by and fix our plugged toilet problem on a hot Sunday night.  We tried to snake it ourselves but nothing.  We tried to call our regular guys who would have done the job for an estimated $98 but they had no one available.

Found Da Hawaiian Plumber because of high reviews on Yelp and at first he wasnt able to come, but when I told him I'd call him the next day (I was going to try to find someone could come out - no showers, no toilet, no way) he said he could come between 7pm and 8pm.   I was then 5pm.  His estimate was $150.

He arrived on Hawaiian Time (8:05) and seemed to know what he was doing.  At first he checked for sewer access pipes, then said he'd snake it from the toilet but itd have to come off.  Okay whatever, just fix it, the kids need a shower and I really had to go #2.
A half hour later it wasnt working so he had to go to an outside sewer access and 30 mintues later he pulled out a soggy ball of wet wipes.
BAD KIDS!!!

The bill shocked us.  $288 dollars!

Apparently its $155 plus $85 for pulling off the toilet plus a $35 service charge?  Woulda been nice if he mentioned the charge first.

A big, big plus for coming out on a Sunday evening but man, I am broke now...

I feel bad about writing this however, I do not want what happened to me to happen to anyone else.

Rick is a personable guy however, when he states an amount (in my case it was $1200) he should honor that amount.  I paid him $600 upon start and he said balance at the end of the day.

When I met him with balance of $600 he shows me a new invoice in the amount of $1734.00.  I nearly fell over when I saw this amount.

I told him that this wasn't right.  He gave me a bunch of stories why the amount added up and then said o.k. if you pay me now I'll reduce it $300 and my company will eat up the loss because I stated $1200.

I refused and said I will have to dispute the balance cause what was being done to me wasn't right.

We had words and I waited for him to write up a second invoice for amount paid and amount owed.

After I left I immediately called his Dad Ross and he apologized for everything and said that he will have a talk to Rick and everything is good if I paid $1200.

I told him that I wrote the check out to his Son's name not the company because that's what he told me.

Anyway, you can use your own  judgement whether to use these guys or not.  Mine is a Nay.

I needed to change my kitchen faucet but i couldn't remove my old faucet. So I decided to find me a plumber.  I called a few plumbers I found on yelp but went straight to voicemail.  But, Da Hawaiian Plumbers came thru. Ross was fast and efficient, very friendly, and cost was cheap. I recommend these guys to anyone with a broken pipe!!!! Great Service!!!

Interestingly, I got this referral from a fellow Yelper's Talk discussion but they never reviewed this guy before.....

My property had mixed up water lines near the BOWS meters (blast you, contractor Mr. Lee who built these properties! Cheap *ss, half *ss work and didn't even want to correct it himself when BOWS told us it was HIS shoddy work!!!! I will YELP you soon enough!).

Anyway, thought the job would be as easy as going into the hole and switching the pipes, but turns out, it was way more complicated and a bigger job than that. Rik actually discovered this when he investigated for his estimate.

Long story short, good old Rik is sensitive to our situation. He laid out the issue, the plan of attack and gave us the option to start today or call him whenever.

He completed the job properly (found some other things wrong with the pipe materials and repaired it) and quickly (started right after he looked and gave us an estimate). Rik was professional, easy to deal with/talk to and even better, charged us less than the price he estimated in the beginning.  I would definitely use his services again.

Pros:
-Quick
-Professional
-Affordable (charged us less than he originally estimated)
-Knowledgable
-Felt he was an honest person because he was easy to deal with

Cons:
-None right now, I guess we'll see if the pipes explode or my tenant tells me the water bill is screwy! =)

Our guest bathroom toilet was rocking and getting worse daily.  A plumber friend of a friend said the flange was busted and recommended a metal flange which no one had on Saturday.  Plus, he didn't seem interested in trying to get anything done that day (came in a white t-shirt and shorts like he had plans that afternoon) and said we would have to wait until Monday - plus I didn't like his vibe.  He left the toilet disconnected for the weekend.  I didn't think it would be a problem (since it wasn't my bathroom) but my sister had a fit, so I called three other plumbers in my area and all went to voicemail.  I saw the reviews on Yelp and called Rik Sorenson at 9:45am Sunday morning.  He answered on the second ring and said he would be out within an hour.  He was right on time.  When he looked at it, the flange was cracked very badly and had already been repaired by someone.  He wasn't sure he could fix it, but he said he would give it a try.  He chiseled out the old one and put in a metal one and caulked the toilet.  Completely done within an hour and a half.  Very reasonably priced considering it was a Sunday, short notice and alittle more involved than it should have been.  This is my go to plumber from now on!  HIGHLY recommend!
