I was having problems with my dishwasher draining. O'Neill's answered my call right away and knew exactly what the problem was. They were so nice to speak to and really helped me out. My dishwasher was fixed in no time. Amazing customer service, very knowledgeable, would recommend them for any plumbing job!

Oh my goodness, Shannon at O'Neill Plumbing is one of the kindest souls walking this planet! I live in an older rental property and a sink hose randomly burst, flooding the entire basement. In a panic, I found the number to O'Neill Plumbing and to my relief, an actual human being (i.e, not an automated message) picked up the phone. Shannon walked me through the entire process of shutting off the water supply in the unit and the valves connected to the busted hose. He also helped me restore water to the unit and wisely advised that it was safe to use water in the rest of the house without affecting the busted hose.

While my landlord ultimately chose a different company to fix the hose and mitigate the water, I am immensely grateful for Shannon's help and wouldn't hesitate to hire this company once I buy my own home in the area.

Thank you!!!

My original contact with Shannon was pleasant.  Unfortunately, that was the end of it.  I contacted Shannon after hours (around 7:00PM) for my daughter who had hit a pipe with a screw and now had a leaky pipe.  I paid a $500 deposit as a minimum charge to get Shannon out to the apartment.  Shannon showed up, and after 2 1/2 hours was able to locate the water shutoff within a crawlspace.  During the time at the apartment he had an argument with my daughters neighbor and my daughter felt very uncomfortable.  Building maintenance was finally reached and said they would be there in the morning.  My daughter then said to Shannon that he could leave now that the water was shutoff and maintenance would be there in the morning.  My daughter received the invoice for $1400 for the service.  My daughter called him back to talk through the bill and why it was excessively high.  Shannon said he would come back and also fix the pipe if that would help.  When reviewing the invoice, come to find out it was $1400 on top of the already paid $500.  So a total of $1900 for Shannon to fix the pipe. Shannon was then demanding payment immediately and would not leave the property until paid.  I called Shannon to try talking through the bill with him and he went off.  He was screaming at me telling me he hasnt slept for over 36 hours and he said it was people like me who were scum and that he needed to get paid before he left the property.  He would not let me get a word in and kept screaming at me.  While this was all going on, he captured the attention of the neighbors because he was screaming so loud.  He then told me he would go back in the apartment and take the pipe he just repaired out of the apartment if I did not pay.  He stated that I better pay because he was at my daughters house and there would be a lot of sleepless nights there if I did not pay.

I will pay the excessively high bill for a broken pipe, but will also file a police report as this was a threat.  Before anyone decides to do business with Shannon at O'Neill Plumbing Service.  I would think twice before having someone that appears this unstable in your house.

I cannot reconcile the negative reviews here with the Shannon O'Neill who has been our plumber for the last decade+. From the time we moved in, in 2009, (it's now 2023) as first time nervous homebuyers, Shannon and his family have taken incredible care of our family by caring for our home. Shannon is humorous and sometimes irreverent, but has never once raised his voice to us or even shown anything other than a chill demeanor. We have had to call O'Neill Plumbing for everything from emergencies (flooded basement due to a washer failing, and AGAIN for a dead water heater a few years later) to simple plumbing issues like a leaky sink pipe, & they have never been anything but responsive, professional, and incredibly kind. We recommend this business to absolutely everyone, and I can't say that about any other contractor we've ever worked with.

If you want an honest plumber, hire Shannon. We had a leak in one of our basement pipes this summer and Shannon was honest and let us know how we could fix it without spending thousands of dollars. I highly recommend him and will use O Neill Plumbing for all our future plumbing needs in the future. Shannon is quick with communication, will help ease any concerns, professional and simply the best plumber in this area!

Mr. O'Neill was referred to me by a neighbor that was extremely pleased with his service. We had a kitchen faucet installed by his son that was very professional and fast. Labor fees are very reasonable. Our latest experience was with our furnace. The pressure release valve was purging constantly. I had purchased a new valve and a new expansion tank to install, but my wife has taken ill and I didn't have the time to do it. Mr. O'Neil came to our home and diagnosed the problem in about 3 minutes and fixed it without needing any of the parts I had purchased. He saved me money and hardship of not having heat during the cold days of December. I highly recommend him and his company.

Earlier last week I noticed that there was water on the basement toilet floor. The toilet had been making some strange noises and I thought the toilet was leaking. I turned off the water, cleaned up the water and left for work. Friday when I got home from work I went down to start taking the innards out of the toilet. When I opened the bathroom door there was water over the bathroom floor (uhoh the water to the toilet was turned off). I ran into the laundry room to get some towels to sop up the water and the outdoor carpeting in the laundry room was also saturated. The problem was the inside uptake part of the heat pump. I ran upstairs and turned off the AC.

It's Friday at 6pm, so I methodically made calls to some HVAC businesses to get an appointment on Saturday or Monday, whichever worked, no rush. I left messages on several and only two returned my call: O'Neill Plumbing and 495 HVAC. I knew it was the start of the weekend and was totally prepared to wait until Monday. My cell rang about a half hour after leaving messages; I picked up the unknown caller. It was Shannon O'Neill and his banter was quite different, and I could see how some people (some of these one star reviews) might take offense to his candid banter, but I found it interesting, rather amusing.

Anyway, he asked me to describe the issue and I told him that when the air conditioning was on water seemed to seep out of the base of the unit. Shannon asked me a few questions about the unit and explained that he could come over on Saturday, but his suspicions after chatting up with me led his professional opinion along the lines that the white pipe from the unit to the drain was clogged. He gave me his personal cell number and asked me to send him pics of the plastic pipes coming off the pump. He said he would call back shortly after looking at the pictures. He called back in about 10 minutes.

Shannon said he'd be happy to come over but he thought that I could fix the issue easily if I listened to him closely. He instructed me to unhook the white pvc pipe by removing the clamps and since I did not have a long wire to push down the tubing, he instructed me to blow air from my mouth down the tube. Also, he said I would feel a slight tension and then a mild pop if the pipe were clogged. It happened exactly that way. The water started running out of the unit, down the white tubing and into the drain in the basement floor.

I was amazed that he had helped me take care of this issue. Any other business would have come on Saturday and charged me a trip charge. Jeez, ME Flow wanted to charge me 80.00 before they even came on Monday. I thanked Shannon profusely and he kept saying it was me who did all the work and he was happy to help. He said that I did not owe him anything, so I told him that I would post my experience. I always read reviews from other people before I use a company. I did not experience any rude or flippant talk from Shannon O'Neill and felt that he was truly a representative of a successful business owner: direct, helpful and creating a future tribe of loyal patrons.

I would give O'Neill 5+ stars and not because he saved me a few hundred dollars, but because he is a representative of the small business ownership that people need to support. The reason why ME Flow can charge my credit card 80.00 nonrefundable dollars to give me an estimate is because as a culture we are not supporting the alternative businesses that are a perfect example of American entrepreneurialism.  We would rather pay the sometimes gouging prices from large retailers because it's easy, and they are big so they must be better right? I have O'Neill in my list of home repair sources for the future. O'Neill Plumbing will take care of all DiAngelo family heat pump and plumbing issues in the future. Thanks Shannon O'Neil for being a standup business person who puts the customer first.

They will be my first call for any future plumbing issues. Friendly and helpful on the phone and had somebody out within a few hours (even though it wasn't necessarily an emergency).

They had all the stuff on the truck in case we wanted to go ahead and do the repair at the same time, and were really quick and capable.

Always nice to support a local non-chain business that does it right.

Such a rude company.

Called for an estimate regarding a water heater replacement. The lady said they need an email with all the details of the current water heater, a picture of the space and some other specifications. That's fine I understand however this isn't my personal water heater. I explained that these are tenants of my parents who are out of the country and it wasnt easy to retrieve all that info as if it were in my own house. I asked if there was anything else we could do and she simply responded no and began to list the reasons. Then abruptly from across the room I hear someone yell $2100 8 year warranty (which is an absurd price). I replied with an okay thanks to which they immediately hung up.

How is this customer service? The tone of the whole conversation showed they had no interest in their customers.

Omg. If it didn't happen to me I would not believe this . When the first problem appeared the same day as the work and I called the owner, Shannon, he became extremely abusive because I told him I would leave the door unlocked for social distancing and would be in the next room
He refused to come and I just let it go because he was so abusive, I did not want him in my home. I am actually afraid to leave this review but now the toilet is leaking and he became unhinged again when I called to tell him this. As others have said he does not let you talk and screams abuse over your efforts to explain why you are calling. Btw his worker (Colton) who originally came left grease all over the place (including on the wall) in addition to bring totally incompetent to handle such a simple job. If you think that you will never have to contact this owner, then hire them.  If you do have to contact Shannon beware.

Shannon at O'Neill plumbing was amazing.  We noticed our hot water heater was leaking at around 10pm on a Friday night and he had a new water heater installed in our home by 1am.  He explained exactly what he was doing, why he was doing it, and the physics of it all to help us better understand everything which was very appreciated.  He also threw in a water alarm for our heater for free which was so great!

An added bonus, our pets really liked him - and you know animals can sense the kind of person they are dealing with.  ;)

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!
I am a property manager for an apartment and called to see what could be done about a leaking dishwasher and the owner who picked up and I spoke with for about a minute told me he couldn't help with dishwasher he then proceeded to give me advice by telling me that I'm not doing enough about the issue and needed to be proactive... what a fucking joke!

We had a leak in our duplex and i was unable to get there. I called O'neill plumbing because i saw they were family owned. They got there quickly and called and promptly accessed the problem. Shannon was more interested in making sure I understood exactly what was needed and what my options were.

This post would be a five if i wasnt so frugal.

I will use them again and recommend them

Cancelled twice then wanted to come on a day I wasn't home. Hugely inconvenienant for me and I had two other estimates that I could have also gone with, but Shannon had been really nice and helpful and seemed to really want the job so I arranged for my mom to come and meet him while I was gone. He left many stains in the hallway of my building. He also left the furniture moved, and the draft blocker on my door broken. When I sent him a text with pictures saying I just came home to this he called me immediately me and started CURSING at me told me he felt sorry for my husband, boyfriend, fiance whatever he is for having to put up with me. Then hung up.

We moved into a new house three days ago, and noted after moving in that there was a loud dripping sound in the kitchen ceiling after running the master bathroom sink upstairs.  This was followed by a prominent sulfur smell in the same area.

I called O'Neill Plumbing yesterday, and described the situation to the owner, Shannon.  He was very helpful and friendly, and helped to arrange someone to come the next day.  I appreciated that their scheduler also sent an email confirming all our contact and address information promptly after scheduling.

Today, Colton called exactly 30 minutes before our appointment time to let me know he was on the way.  He arrived right on time, and quickly and accurately diagnosed what the problems were (thermal expansion in the pipe causing the dripping sound and a faulty Studor vent causing the smell).  He checked the ceiling just to be sure, and cleaned and replaced the valve.  All of this was covered by the price quoted to me.  He was so kind and pleasant to work with.

I was already thrilled with the service, and then this evening the owner called me back to reassure me that if there are any ongoing issues with the Studor vent, I could call him to have the part replaced for the cost of the part only.

We are new homeowners and were so anxious about the possibility of a large leak.  We are deeply appreciative of O'Neill Plumbing's quick, professional, and thorough assistance. We would definitely use them again and also plan to refer others to their company.  Thanks!

I've dealt with Shannon and O'Neill Plumbing twice now and they've both been great experiences. Shannon is a professional and great guy that is willing to explain what he is doing, and why. When he was working on my place, he was honest, quick to work, and professional.

His staff was quick to lay down tarps to protect my floor, when I asked a few questions about what / why he was doing it, he was happy to explain (in lay-men's terms) what he was doing and why and in a nice way. O'Neill is on my list as my go to plumbing professional. I don't hesitate to call whenever I have an issue.

Late night emergency and Shannon was more than a great help over the phone. My landlord wanted me to use another plumbing service, but they couldn't make it out for 6 more days which doesn't work when you have no running water. Shannon came out the same day I called him; fit me right into his schedule.
Professional service is an understatement.

Had a great experience last Thursday with Shannon.

After Frosty's Heating and Cooling sent a misogynistic and incompetent tech (who spent most of the morning interrupting me, telling me I didn't know what I was talking about and insisting on talking to a man) we were in a bit of a tough spot with an emergency situation in need of two hot water tank hose replacements.  The day after the 4th no less.

Shannon to the rescue!  After exchanging a couple photos of the tank, Shannon not only was able to say confidently that he could take on the job, he gave me a quote over the phone.  The several other places I called wouldn't commit to actually doing the job, doing the job that day or even a ballpark of what the cost could be.

And then!  Shannon was able to come within the hour, quickly replace the hoses and was incredibly polite and helpful throughout.  He and his assistant even wore booties to prevent tracking any dirt on the floors.

Would highly recommend!

This is my SECOND review on Shannon and his crew.  I cannot praise this company enough!  All of my pipes from my house were clogged and as they were 100 years old, needed to be replaced.  His crew is fast, efficient, and knowledgeable.  Shannon held my hand thru the whole process as he knew this was stressing me out.  They even mulched my flower beds to ensure my yard was left better than they found it!  Added gravel to my back gate to improve the look at the gate.  I can go on and on!  If you want an honest plumber, this is your guy!

I've know Mr.O'Neil ever since I made my first phone call for plumbing services when I purchase my home. As a first time home buyer at the time, I was very skeptical & after calling a few other plumbers in the area, I knew when I started talking to O'Neil he was the one I wanted to use. His honesty & his energy blew everyone else's out of the water. There was no doubt in my mind that I was being mislead by any means. And guess what.. after you see his work you see why he is the way he is. This man is a absolute master at his craft. All of my friends and family use him now and they all say the same.
If you want honesty & complete detail of what's going on with your plumbing call O'Neill plumbing!

These guys rock.

I had a small tub plumbing issue come up that came as the result of a bad prior owner and/or condo manufacturer.  It wasn't a huge problem, but definitely needed professional work, and it required thinking outside the box and a bit of welding.  Most plumbers in the area wouldn't spend more than a second or two on the phone with me before virtually running off and/or demanding huge sums of cash - but that didn't happen with O'Neill.

I spoke almost immediately with Shannon, who spent no less than 30 minutes on the phone with me running through potential fixes for the problem.  He then quoted an extremely reasonable price, which made me pull the trigger immediately.  When he arrived (on time and with plenty of prior notice), he and his crew had my tub fixed in 10 minutes - and he even fixed some other nearby stuff gratis.  It was remarkably clean, painless, and professional work.

The nice thing about this work was how ridiculously talented Shannon was.  He was able to spot issues with lightning speed and fix them in about the same amount of time.  I didn't have to sit around explaining the situation and waiting for him to process it - and that's pretty rare, especially in plumbing.

Needless to say, I can't recommend this place highly enough.

Extremely impressed by Shannon at O'Neil Plumbing. We were in the middle of a kitchen renovation when we realized one evening we didn't have hot water. We called and Shannon walked us through finding a hot water shut off valve we didn't even know existed and turning it back on. We then noticed our current water heater was leaking internally and Shannon loaded up his truck with a new one and was at our home within an hour. He worked with our home warranty company and was very knowledgeable. Would highly recommend his services

I called O'Neill Plumbing to get a second opinion on an issue at my home in Bucknell Manor. Shannon was very patient and knowledgeable as he talked with me extensively over the phone. He was able to come out ASAP and provided excellent service. The team carefully laid down clean drop clothes and taped plastic to the wall before removing the toilet to run a camera. After diagnosing the problem he gave a very fair estimate to repair the pipe and included a warranty of parts and labor.

I was very impressed with the professionalism, friendliness, and speed that Shannon and his crew delivered. Will absolutely use them again for any future plumbing needs.

I just had the most amazing experience with Shannon from O'Neill Plumbing. Honestly cannot say enough about how nice, helpful, and great this guy was which is REALLY hard to find with tradesmen. I called him at 7 PM at night after a 2 hour struggle trying to get hair out of my drain. I was just expecting a quote. But instead, he stayed on the phone with me to offer tips, let me text him pictures of the situation, and told me what to do. I got close but still couldn't get it. So he literally left where he was (on a big project) and immediately drove to my house. At 7:30 PM. He showed me what to do, got the water flowing, and made sure I knew how to fix and prevent it in the future. I really am just speechless. I've never had such an amazing experience. Please call these guys for any plumbing needs. I definitely will be using them for any plumbing needs in the future.

We had a leak in our drain pipe out from the kitchen sink. We were already doing construction in the kitchen so we tore out all the drywall and exposed the entire area of the leak. I sent  detailed pictures of the leak and the surrounding pipes and I was quoted $498 for the job.

When the plumber arrived, he worked for one half hour to fix that one specific leak. But when he turned on the water, we discovered another leak less than 5 feet from the original leak closer towards the sink. He refused to include fixing the rest of the pipe in with the original price and quoted an additional $285 to fix that second leak.

We ended up replacing the rest of the pipe ourselves (from the point of the first leak back to the sink) for $27 worth of material from Home Depot and about 20 minutes of work. The fact that we paid $498 for 1/2 hr worth of work and a drain that still didn't work when he left is preposterous. I would never recommend this company (on their ethics alone) and will be sure to steer everyone we know from them as well.

I called O'Neill last night at 10pm for a burst pipe under my bathroom sink.  I was very upset, and the gentleman on the phone was very understanding and attentive.  I live in a condo and he instructed me to find out where the water shut off was before he came out.  I did as he said and contacted my building's maintenance, they came and fixed the issue.  However without the gentleman on the phone, I wouldn't have been calm enough to even think of doing that.  He stayed on call for an hour and didn't charge me a dime.  That's true customer service and human decency.  I will use O'Neill for any future issues I may have!

2 stars at this company only because the quality of work and the ability to get the job done quickly was great. The lack of the other stars is because of the work done after my clients home and the paying aspect. When talking to this vendor I informed him that since we are a company, I need an invoice and company W9 in order to pay them. I can pay via CC or check; however check takes NET 30 days.

Shannon and I were both on the same page. When the work was done, a month went by and I still haven't received the invoice. On or about January 15th I let the company know that i need the invoice and W9 in order to pay. January 19th i received the invoice via email and immediately sent the payment. 30 days later the check comes back to my office telling me that it was returned for wrong address. Seems that the W9 we had on file for this company was no longer correct. I contacted Shannon with O'Neill Plumbing and informed them I need an updated W9 to update our records and resend the check.

I could go on, but overall, Shannon consistently told me it was my fault for the check being late and that he only takes payment on the day of the work. My thought is that if you only take payment when work is completed, why did i get the invoice to pay a month later after I was the one who requested it of not being received. I pay all my vendors on time; however it's not my fault for his company sending a late invoice a month after work is completed and then not providing me a W9 with the correct address on it. during our phone call he hung up on me and said he doesn't want to do business again. From there, I sent a nice email back letting him know that there's obviously a misunderstanding and that I would like to make a good and successful business relationship between both companies. No email back.

I then finally received the W9 and updated this. I was told that they want a credit card payment to expedite this. I was happy to do so; however they charge like 3% more and this was a $1689 bill so that's a lot more money. I then said I am happy to pay on credit card for the convenience and request for the company but will not pay the additional fee they charge as they already tried charging more money than what was agreed upon and I of course could have sent a check out quick to save everyone money. They did not want that. So as of today I finally see that they charged the correct amount as originally stated on their invoice; however the two business no longer do business together.

Happy with the quality and timeliness of work; however their customer service verbally and follow up is horrible and they blame customers instead of taking ownership of their own companies problems with sending 1 month late invoices and then not even getting the right W9 to us initially.

I will add this. I'm sure if you are an individual and not going through a company for business you may be fine; however as a company my office had certain requirements to be met in order to pay which this company agreed too, then decided after all said and done they complained and blames me for their laziness.

1000% recommend Shannon and his team!  I know there are some not so nice reviews on other sites. But I had an amazing experience. And that is not usually something you'd associate with a plumbing company. Here are the facts: fast, professional, and kind service; cheaper price than other companies; great communication; and customer service that went above and beyond.

I called the company on a Thursday morning around 10.... and the owner Shannon answered! I told him I need a water heater replacement - do they do that? Absolutely they said! But then I shared that I am a landlord for a property in VA, but I am located in SC. I'm thinking they'll need to schedule a first appointment to estimate the work. Nope! He said just send me pictures of the water heater and surrounding areas and they can create an electronic estimate. Got the estimate by lunchtime! Meanwhile, my tenant had reached out to see if she could schedule an appt with another company and had been told there was a 2 week wait, so I was prepared for the same delay. When Shannon sent the estimate he said he could have it installed as early as that evening. THAT EVENING!
I asked if he wouldn't mind connecting with my tenant directly to schedule the installation. No problem  - he called, they scheduled, and he let me know all was good to go. They sent a calendar invite for the installation and kept me in the loop along the way. When there was a slight problem with the size of the heater, Shannon called to explain his solution and confirmed I was ok with it. Here is what I appreciate on top of that - I was driving, so asked my husband to give him a call back on my behalf. Shannon made sure - since I was technically his client - to make sure he was on speaker so I could hear what he was proposing. Not in a frustrating way, but I share this because I have seen other reviews where people complained about bossy, misogynistic behavior. And with Shannon he could have easily said ok here's the husband, here's the man, I'll just tell him. But he didn't. I was thoroughly impressed, from start to finish. And I will tell everyone in NOVA that he is the guy you can trust and rely on for great, professional work, and fast! Oh - and my tenant, since she had the face to face interaction with the gentlemen doing the installation, said he was fantastic.

The manager Mr. Shannon came over tonight to my house. Thanks god he did nothing at my home. I'm telling my impressions of his attitude while giving a service.
He was talkative, racist, rude & nonprofessional at all.I had an emergency of leaking in the dinning area coming from the upstairs Bathroom, he suggested to cut the ceiling to fix the problem & make sure no more water spill. Then he checked the toilet upstairs & found it loose, he came to know that it's all coming from here. I told him frankly I've a very limited budget moved in last month so I suggest fixing the toilet so I don't pay for the ceiling cut ($250) + cost of repairs. I've already charged $257 for showing up. He said NO . In the middle of the give & take he said to me he's the fifth white generation!! Implying that am black African immigrant. This's what I understood.
I NEVER recommend this guy.

Adding my experience witnessing a short-fuse and a poorly controlled temper. It was like a switch got flipped and what had been a regular and not unpleasant service call quickly deteriorated.

Recently I had Shannon replace my water heater and it was a  professional and thorough job.  The installation turned out to be more complex than we originally thought due to the age of my old heater, the small size of my closet, and some older pipes.  Despite the unexpected circumstances, Shannon kept me in the loop and I appreciated him explaining to me what they were doing and why.

As promised the new hot water heater is a great improvement over my old one and I m ow how to adjust it if I need to.  I would certainly go back to Shannon and O'Neill plumbing for any future service calls or plumbing issues!

I just met an angel in a man named Shannon. This man came out on an emergency call and did something that seems very rare these days. He was honest with us. While we ended up not needing any plumbing work done, we know that when we do we will definitely only call O'Neill Plumbing. Honest people still exist and I am very grateful to have met one tonight. Thank you, sincerely!

I recently emailed a request for quote to O'Neill to take care of a leaky shower faucet and I received a return call within the hour from Shannon.  Not only was the dude about to drive in a monster truck rally, he gave me a quick run down on what the issue was and how to fix it myself for around $50.  I was impressed on a few levels...1) he was about to shred metal 2) he saved me $320 on a plumber appt and 3) He had the integrity to help me out with no promise of financial gain.

Needless to say, the next time i have a serious issue, ill be calling O'Neil.

Great experience with Shannon and Jimmy this week. AHS let me use them for an emergency plumbing issue and they were able to come that same afternoon. The updated me on their whereabouts so I didn't have to leave work too early and worked with me on timing.
Shannon immediately knew what the issue was and got to working on it while he also tried to figure out how to get approval from AHS. By the time AHS approved the work, he was already done, saving us 40 minutes.
AHS doesn't usually work with contractors of this caliber, and it's a shame. They will likely lose customers as a result (I'll be gone by the end of this month).
Anywho, I would 100% recommend Shannon and his team for your plumbing needs!

They are our saviors, over and over!  They are reliable, quick to respond and quick to provide service, which in the plumbing emergency cases we've had has been amazing.  Plus, they do great work!  Would absolutely refer them to anyone.

They got out to us super fast and immediately got to work. They identified the issue, informed us and explained what they were going to do, and maintained a VERY clean work area for such a sh**ty job (get it? Yeah not the best joke ever lol.) Either way, We have used them a few times and will continue using them and recommending them to anyone who asks for recommendations!

I called with a plumbing emergency at 8 o'clock one evening. They had a specialist (I believe his name was Colton) to my place within an hour. I wasn't happy with the cost that my vanity plumbing blunder ended up costing me, but I was more than pleased with the timelines, efficiency, professionalism and follow-up that O'neill Plumbing provided.

I wanted to write a quick review following a positive experience with Shannon.  I've had a very slow draining sink for a few weeks now - I'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment so I was holding off on calling a plumber as it wasn't an emergency.  This evening after work the toilet decided to get in on the game, and because I only have one bathroom, things abruptly became a bit more urgent.

I initially spoke with Megan who was helpful on her own - she then put me in touch with Shannon who said he'd be able to arrive in half an hour.  Shannon and an assistant showed up on time, explained the plan, and then fixed the problem.  Shannon even went so far as to fix my wobbly sink, which was above and beyond what I was asking him to do.

When it came time to add up the charges, Shannon explained everything to me and things worked out to a very fair price.  Of note, another plumber had quoted me double, and that quote was for an appointment during business hours.

I'd highly recommend Shannon and O'Neill Plumbing.  I won't hesitate to use them again.

Shannon was my hero this Sunday. I set out to replace the guts of my toilet on my own. The toilet had been running for months & I decided a Sunday was when I had time to work on it. It went...badly. And so I called O'Neill Plumbing to rescue me. But Shannon did me one better- he talked me through how to fix it, checked in with me on my progress and even gave me pro-tips on how to troubleshoot the final steps. I never met Shannon today, but I know exactly who I will call next time I need a plumber on site! I cannot thank Shannon enough, for his help or his integrity in valuing future service from a now dedicated customer over a weekend fee. As a self-employed person, I know that's not an easy trade-off. But I'm impressed by and thankful for Shannon.

After our basement flooded on a Saturday, I called over 15 plumbing companies to see who could come out for emergency service same day. Not only was Shannon able to come over that night, he was able to replace the sump pump, and worked with my home warranty to make sure it was covered. He also came back the next day to follow up with fixing the water heater that was secondary damage due to the flooding. Will definitely recommend them to friends and family. Great attitude, courteous workers, constant communication, and most of all, everything was fixed!

now and forever, the only plumbers I'll call.

I had a leaking water heater that was filling my basement rapidly at 4am.  I knew I had to deal with emergency plumbers of some kind and my first call was to a fancy, huge, ads all over the place organization who I thought had the manpower to handle such emergencies.  Two hours later, no call and no person showing up.  When I inquired when a plumber would come, I was told well, if the on-call didn't pick up, there's nothing we can do.  You''ll have to wait till we open.  Not what you want to hear when your feet are covered with water.  Another quick Google search landed on O'Neill, and Shannon picked up right away.  A few vitals, some quick info, and he was at my house when he said he'd be.  He not only stopped the bleeding, he explained everything, gave me options, and said he could accommodate whatever road we wanted to go down.  I put my trust in him and he didn't let me down.  He and Meagan and the crew at O'Neill have gained a client for life.  Can't recommend them enough.

Shannon is in a word Awesome!  First he quotes me 40% less than his closest competitor AND can do it same day. Then he tells me how I could do it myself, complete with recommended tools and part numbers...unreal!!  That's customer service.  I'm going to give it a try on my own. If I fail, he'll no doubt be the guy I call to do the job...now and in the future.
Bravo Shannon!  You have restored my faith in the idea that there are still honest contractors out there.

Ok, to start with you really need to figure out if you have a plumbing issue or a drainage issue. Unfortunately I didn't really know the difference and ended up paying for it. In the end, I got quite an education in drainage vs plumbing issues.

Plumbing - water and waste pipes inside your house
Drainage - the main drain where all your house pipes dump that leads to your city's sewage system

I had gross water backing up into the shower in my basement, which is an indicator your problem is a main drain. I called O'Neill's and told them I needed my drain snaked. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that snaking a drain today is like using a rock as a hammer... it is outdated and not very effective.

O'Neill came out and did everything they said they would, which is why I gave them 2 stars. He charged me $750 for the snake visit and an additional $250 because he had to remove my toilet (my house doesn't have a clean out). So be it (I was given a $50 discount because of military service, which was appreciated.). Unfortunately, O'Neill didn't have enough snake length to clean out all the way to the sewage dump out. Instead of just saying that he couldn't make it all the way to the end, he told me that I had roots and a break in my drainage pipe. He then went on to provide me with a quote for $10,000 to dig up my cast iron drain pipe.

I started calling some family members to ask questions about drain issues and my brother in law told me about hydrojetting. After discussion with my wife, we decided to pay an additional $699 to have All American Drain Service come out and hydrojet my main drain rather than paying $10,000 to get my yard dug up.

For starters, with the hydrojet, there was no need to remove the toilet even though I didn't have a clean out. They were able to insert it into the main drain pipe through the roof vent. Secondly, the camera that All American used was 10x better than O'Neill's camera. You couldn't make anything out with O'Neill's camera, whereas you could see every detail of the pipe with All American's camera. I was told it is because O'Neill's camera was cheap and the hydrojet one cost around $10,000. The hydrojet people were able to punch through the clog in literally 5 minutes. Then they did a very thorough cleaning of the drain and used the top notch camera to thoroughly inspect the entire pipeline... NO BREAKS, NO ROOTS.

So my lesson learned... inside the house clogs, snaking may be the way to go but for drainage issues, don't mess around with the snake, go straight to the hydrojet.

Now the reason why I gave O'Neill 2 stars... after he gave me the $10,000 quote for replacing my drain pipe, I called around a bit. I had 2 other quotes for the exact same job... one came in at $3500 and the other at $5500. I didn't know it when he handed it to me, but a $10,000 quote was insulting. He basically was calling me an idiot and preying on my ignorance.

Called in an emergency basement-flooding situation at 3 on a Saturday afternoon and an hour later Shannon showed up at my door- he was great!! Arrived on time, got right to it, knowledgeable, informative, gave me a good deal on pricing, and I didn't feel like he was pressuring me to do more and more just to put it on the invoice. Overall- very happy with this experience and would use again.

Can't say enough about what a great style these guys have.  I just called them at 10:30pm on a Sunday night (after having to leave messages with a number of the bigger 24/7 plumbing firms around) with a small leak issue which I needed fixed ASAP before a home inspection in the morning...Shannon O'Neill answered the phone and offered to help me out by looking at pictures sent over text before he came out to do anything.  He walked me through my issue and within minutes I was able to fix it myself.  He wouldn't even take money for his time and effort on a Sunday evening.  Can't believe how fortunate I feel for his help.  Thanks Shannon!  Mike Q.

I rent a condo and my tenant called me regarding a leak coming from the kitchen sink
When you rent I find it very important to fix things ASAP I called my plumbing company I've used for years but they could not come out until the next day for me that would not work
I called I gave a time and was fit right in
The plumber who came out brought everything he may need including a new disposal
He was done in 45 min and was very neat and was easy to talk too
I would give them a call if your looking for a plumber also this was done yesterday and I normally do not submit reviews so this says a lot

Shannon is absolutely the best plumber I have ever dealt with. He is honest and upfront about his work and it is reasonably priced. They offer a standard warranty on their work and stand behind what they do.

Unfortunately (for me), I have had to call Shannon twice in the last six months. He got to my house quickly and fixed all issues needed when a pipe burst in my basement. He did such an excellent job I had him fix a few lingering issues as well. Great work all around. The next time he can out to my place was for a faulty dishwasher. He quickly diagnosed the problem and helped us come up with an affordable solution.

I highly recommend Shannon and O'Neil plumbing to anyone in need of any plumbing work, big or small.

Don't believe the lies. I've talked to Shannon on the phone for half an hour while he gave me advice that any other plumber would have charged me for doing in person. We had a separate issue where he came to the house with my wife and went above and beyond with service and friendliness. There's a yelp account for O'Neill plumbing that has 200+ reviews that are overwhelmingly positive. Then there are accounts like this with less than 20 reviews that post about him being violent and negligent. This stinks of character assassination and should be deleted immediately, especially since there is a verified account.

I'm very sad to be writing a negative review for O'Neill Plumbing. I was so excited that they are a family owned business and that I could have a frank conversation with Shannon's wife, Meaghan (sp?) about all my plumbing needs. As a first time home owner I've been looking for a business with which I could build a trusting and long lasting relationship. Per Meaghan's request, I sent her 2 emails listing what I needed help with today and a second email describing further enhancements to my apartment as well as my 9 unit building's interest in putting in water efficient toilets throughout the building.

Unfortunately, a conversation with Shannon (the plumber) just now leaves me befuddled and sad as I'm sure he's very talented at what he does. Shannon started off being up front - saying that his quote was nowhere near the 4 other quotes I received for 3 minor jobs in my apt (each quote was below $500 from reputable companies in the area with 5 star reviews) that his work would be $1000 for 2 of the 3 jobs, That he was told to say good luck with that (such quotes) and he was not a good fit for my situation. If he had stopped there I would just come away feeling he was expensive / more boutique / only for the quite wealthy.

But then he became aggressive and rude saying that he was offended that I wanted estimates about water efficient toilet's for my small building - clearly stating that he thought I was being disingenuous by asking to have a conversation about toilets which was not related to my clogged drain and hung up on me at the end of the conversation.

It's too bad really, Meghan, his wife, was fantastic - bright, charming, and open to talking about further jobs in my small condo building. If you can get away with only dealing with Meaghan, maybe take a chance on them - other reviews indicate he does good work - but sadly dealing with Shannon directly is not recommended.

I contacted O'Neil Plumbing for my elderly mother who had an emergent water break at her Arlington home. Expectedly, the situation caused her a lot of anxiety, which is not good for her high BP and other health conditions. Shannon and his team handle the situation expeditiously, professionally, and with great personal care. Not only did they identify and fix the major water break but they also deescalated my mother's worries and worked closely with the Insurance agent to make sure she would get the appropriate reimbursement. I would recommend O'Neil Plumbing to anyone in need of plumbing work in the DC Area.

I called Shannon O'Neill to fix two toilets. I would not recommend because clients are not treated with a white glove. As other reviewers have noted, he gets upset easily and yells.

Here goes the story:

The day before I explained by availability. He arrived the next day and told me he was coming early. I said I was unavailable.

He then arrived at the next scheduled time and came in to fix the first toilet. After fixing the toilet, he was about to head upstairs. I asked him to take his shoes off because I have a toddler who crawls on the carpet. (This is where the trouble begins.)

He said Your carpet is sh*t and I pay insurance money and can't do that.
I said, Many people wear booties on their shoes for that purpose.
He said I pay insurance money not to take off my shoes. Okay, we're done here, leaves and slams my door.

He later knocked and asked for payment, which I would have obliged.  I asked him why he left like that, and he said he didn't want an argument. I explained we got off on the wrong foot and that I had a toddler. He repeated that the carpet was sh*t and that his shoes were clean. He next ripped up the receipt and said good luck getting another plumber for one toilet and stormed off.

****Absolutely a must call if you have a plumbing emergency or issue!!!!!****

I had the expansion tank above my hot water heater begin leaking, on a Sunday no less.  After calling my home warranty company and waiting for them to contact their preferred company and calling them back over and over to explain the issue (about 5 hours) I decided to turn to YELP.  O'Neill's popped up and I couldn't have been happier with their emergency services.

Shannon immediately answered their emergency line and was quick to tell me he was happy to help and would be there in less than an hour.

As to the service, Shannon (the owner) personally walked me through everything he was doing and the different options available to me.  I appreciated that he was completely honest and didn't force me into a decision so that he could make money.  He had another plumber with him to assist, Zack, who was completely professional and allowed the job to be done within a reasonable timeframe.

Highly recommend this professional plumbing company!!!!

I called O'Neill Plumbing due to backed up toilet and slow draining shower.  They came out within 90 minutes and not only fixed the problem but cleaned up the less than stellar work of a previous plumber.  Shannon, the owner took the time to explain what was going on as he and his assistant worked.  I really enjoyed his customer service. I called O'Neill Plumbing tonight for a Plumbing issue that I was having which I had paid him over $2200.00 for.  I was trying to explain the issue I was having and he accused me of drinking alcohol which I don't do.
He also accused me of not telling him the issue I was having and kept interrupting me so I couldn't.
He accused me of being Shitty which I can't believe any owner of a company would do!
This Man has severe anger issues.  He was so rude and now down right scary.  He wouldn't listen to what I was trying to say to him only that I needed to answer the Calendar Invite and to answer either accept or decline which I did.

Not only are you as I stated, You are also a LIAR!
You were the one that called us back 3 times and left one phone message because you knew that your behavior was not only as I stated but totally out of line!!  I have the phone calls and the phone message to prove it.
You also lied when you said your plumber Didn't Sever our electrical under the sink when he cut into the wall behind the water pipes, ($2,200) the electrical was working fine before your employee came and after you finished the job, the electrical to the garbage disposal, the light over the sink and the outdoor light weren't working at all.  When we talked about the situation you also took NO responsibility for your employee.   I have the pictures of that too!
When I talked to your plumber about it he said I have no idea what happened, It was all working fine when I got there and I don't know why it not working now.  Well he knew exactly what he did!  That was a cost to me that you should have paid!  I had to pay for an electrician come and fix what your employee did.
But there again you admit no blame!
On every bad review that you have, you have ALWAYS blamed the other person and have admitted NO fault of your own.
EVEN a student driver that was being cautious.!!
Is it Impossible for you to be honest and just say to your customers right now, that you need to work on some phone educate skills and learn to speak truthfully.
I have been a business owner for over 35 years and if you were my employee you would have been out in a heartbeat!!
From the very beginning of our conversation tonight you have harassed me, called me obscenities, accused me of drinking and have been totally rude and inconsiderate To Me A Customer!
Do you have any remorse at all for your actions?

This guy is great! Shannon may not treat clients with a white glove, but this shouldn't be necessary for someone replacing my sewer line - the guy does quality work. O'Neill plumbing will be at your site rapidly and won't try to sell you something you don't need. Shannon was given the opportunity to tell me multiple items needed replacing in my home, and yet actually recommended against doing several of them because he felt it wasn't necessary at the time.

Yes, he's expensive and some have mentioned he doesn't tolerate wasting time. If you want the best, go with Shannon at O'Neill plumbing - you'll get what you pay for!

This review is long overdue -  I called Shannon to install a new diverter valve/shower valve and parts as part of a bigger DIY bathroom renovation. Shannon was very easy to schedule and showed up on time with one helper. I had mentioned that I had a new Delta shower head & parts, but I actually misspoke and had something different. When he came he recognized the brand I had (a cheaper Home Depot brand) and explained its deficiencies...not easy to replace parts down the road, not good quality, etc. The brief education was fantastic and I immediately felt more knowledgable about the selection. I ended up going with recommended parts he had made by Gerber. His prices were reasonable and he had the parts available in his truck for immediate service. Shannon also suggested that we add a shutoff valve at that location to be able to immediately stop any major water leaks if they ever occured, which was brilliant and I'm so glad he brought it up! He offered a matching faucet for the sink, and I originally rejected it, but I ended up ultimately using it and the parts are great both in quality and design.

In addition to all of this, Shannon gave me his cell phone number so that I could call him to walk through putting up the plate after I tiled the shower. Amazing customer service!

Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a fair and honest plumber!

Saturday morning, I notice the toilet leaking. Thought I'd try to fix it myself by looking online. Found instructions to clean the flush valve, so I did that. But found I couldn't shut the water off, emergency shutoff valve stopped working. Panicked, I look online and see O'Neill Plumbing nearby and open 24 hours. Have them a call, and Shanon helped me shut off the main water and told me they could be there in the hour. Came when they said and he explained everything in simple terms, and we decided on what needed replacing. Agreed to a fair price, especially considering how fast he came, and they got the work done in a breeze, keeping me updated all the way. Couldn't have asked for a better plumber experience. Would definitely call for all my plumbing needs

Update: had an issue with my kitchen sink on a Sunday night, a completely separate problem from above, but when it rains it pours. Wouldn't drain, even after pouring drano. They came within the hour and fixed it up. On a Sunday night. These guys are awesome. Shanon explained everything before and as the repairs went along, he basically redid the pipes under my kitchen sink and made sure everything worked great. Would definitely recommend again!

I'm sad to write this review. I do believe that Shannon knows his stuff and they are probably good plumbers. They once helped me for free over the phone with a question I had, and I appreciated that.

That said, I have never been treated with such rudeness and aggression as a customer, at least in the past 2 years. I called recently to set up an appointment and was yelled at for calling early (at 8 am) in the morning (then why is your phone on then??) and for saying yes to a time slot that the dispatcher directly offered to me.

The bottom line is that there are many good plumbers out there, and it's not worth putting up with aggression or rudeness to get one.

I just called the emergency line to get a quote for replacing my garbage disposal today. Mr. Shannon picked up and told me that it would cost ~$150 emergency fee, $350 for replacing it. He told me that it might be too much to pay if I can fix it myself. So he walked through each step to reset the garbage disposal which did fix it. He essentially gave away to job by his honesty. I am inviting friends to dinner tonight and Mr. Shannon helped me out by sparing 10 minutes of his time with his family on a Sunday morning. I highly recommend this business for their excellent customer service!!

Shannon was great. We needed a Flood Stop installed on our water heater since ours broke. We couldn't find any company that seemed to carry the part or know what I was talking about. I finally came across ONeill Plumbing and Shannon knew exactly what I was asking for. The installation was great, Shannon knows exactly what he's talking about, and everything was flawless. I was even able to send pictures and get an estimate online before he came out so I knew the cost, no other company would do that. We will definitely use them for all our future plumbing needs!

Upon completion of the plumbing job, Shannon took it upon himself it fix my front storm door, and only succeeded in screwing it up further. I had spent many hours tuning the automatic door closer to get it to shut as well as it did. Now the cat gets out because the door doesn't close all the way and I get to go back and tune it again. I recognize he was only trying to help, but if I had need for door repair man, I doubt I would have called a plumber.

Plumbing wise, he did a fine job. He loses a couple of stars for fixing something that was not his responsibility to fix.

I can't say enough good things about O'Neill Plumbing. I've called them once before for a simple kitchen faucet replacement, and was very pleased with the process and outcome. We decided to make an appointment for the next day, Saturday, to avoid the standard emergency after-hours fee, and they showed up right on time. Previously, Shannon came out, who is great, and this time Tom and Chris came out. Both were extremely professional and prepared to tackle any issues to get the leak fixed wherever it was coming from. It took quite a bit of detective work, but they finally figured it out and got if fixed. They never seemed like they were in a rush to get out to the next job. Both just really wanted to make sure that everything was done correctly.

Furthermore, Shannon offered to answer any follow-up questions we might have anytime. The customer service, professionalism, knowledge, and work ethic of O'Neill Plumbing is unparalleled in my opinion. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone who needs a plumber for anything as simple as switching out a faucet to a plumbing emergency.

O'Neill Plumbing offers a quality of service and dependability unparalleled by others in this industry.  As this is the second occasion I've had to work with O'Neill (both were semi-emergencies), Megan, Shannon and the entire crew were patient and tireless in accomodating my service needs.

Plainly stated, do yourself a favor, avoid frustration and confusion that comes along with flipping through ad after ad for plumbing professionals - go directly to O'Neill.  You won't regret it.

You're welcome.

I am sorry to say that I had a BAD experience with Shannon O'Neill. In the end, he did rip up the additional bills and did not force me to pay. But he does not seem to understand that a job isn't finished until it is right.

He allowed me to order a Kohler faucet off the Internet to replace one that was malfunctioning in my kitchen. When his men installed the faucet, I noticed that the hot water flow was very, very weak.

Shannon came back to check and his men changed a part but it was still weak. He told me the faucet must be broken. And claimed he had STRONGLY warned me against buying one on-line.

This was not true. In fact, he had told me it would be covered under warranty.

All this is really secondary because after the second visit he began to charge me for trying to get the flow correct. When I objected, he grew very angry, especially when the on-line company sent the wrong replacement part.

He did come back again today but refused to talk to me and seemed very angry at me. I tried to convince him that he needed to improve his customer service presentation. He threatened me that he would allow me to not pay the bills he presented but he would never return to do further service.

This seems to be the opposite of how he should be handling customers. Shannon may be a good plumber but he has something to learn in how to handle customers and problems.

I contacted O'neil plumbing because of all the positive reviews I read on Yelp.  Big mistake!

Shannon responded to the call after hours.  I described the problem to Shannon over the phone and he gave me an estimate of the cost to fix the problem.  Once he arrived he gave me a revised estimate that was several hundred dollars over the original estimate.  If that isn't bad enough, I was charged a $250 emergency service fee just to have them come to the house to assess the problem.  Had I known that Roto-Rooter would have come out to assess the damage for free, I would have called them first.  Furthermore, Shannon was completely unprofessional.  When he arrived he appeared to be stoned.  He attempted to make conversation with me rather than attend to the problem (keeping me occupied for much longer than I felt was acceptable).  He left a mess in the house when he was done working.

A few weeks after he completed the job the same thing happened again!  Again, this happened after hours.  I was temporarily relieved when I thought back to the $250 fee I paid the last time it happened and recalled Shannon telling me it was a one time fee.  Unfortunately, when I contacted Shannon again to address the issue he refused to come back.  I was now out of a plumber and a lot of money.

Frustrated and unsure of what to do next I called Roto-Rooter.  When they arrived they found that I had a clogged drain.  They charged me something like $300 to fix it.  I was really upset at this news because I had just paid O'neil plumbing more than three times this amount to fix the problem, and now I was wondering if Shannon had lied to me all along.

I find Shannon and O'neil plumbing completely distrustful and would NEVER recommend them to anyone.  They have bad business practices and do not guarantee their work.  Further, Shannon scares me.  I was stunned that there were no negative reviews at the time I hired him and after dealing with him.  Then I realized that other people were probably scared of him too.  I have been intentionally vague in this email to avoid any further confrontation with this individual/company.

Save yourself the trouble (and money) - call another plumber.

I giving this rating not because of service they provided, but because O'Neil could not correctly identify where a problem was stemming from AND because once they were there for a small job, tried to price gauge me.  The aggressive tone and words from the job's supervisor were also not well received.

I called O'Neil after reading the reviews on Yelp.  I called around 2:30pm and they showed up same day, around 5pm, as they told me they would to fix a clogged shower drain for $250.  (After doing some research, the $250 is a fairly standard quote from plumbing companies).

I spoke with the supervisor who told me they determined that it was not the drain, but the trap that resided behind the drain.  He then told me the new price would be $850 (after some negotiating, they came down to $700).  I was told the parts were 'a couple hundred bucks.'  After doing my homework, the parts for this repair are less then $50.

He went on about being a flat rate company, and how that's what it would cost to get it right.  When I told him I wanted a second opinion however, he told he still had to charge $250 for coming out.  The supervisor then told me that I could either pay that, or never call again (with some other harsh words in between).  If they were truly a 'flat rate company,' and only getting paid for results, then I couldn't pay him for a job not finished.

I called another plumber, who charged me 1/4 the price to repair the trap.  O'Neil also told me the trap resided in my apartment building's boiler room - this was incorrect (there was an access panel in the apartment to get to the trap).

In short, these people may ultimately get the job - however, they will price gauge you, try to back you into a corner once they are in your home, try to intimidate you if you don't agree/ ask questions with their prescribed approach and probably have a couple other shady business/ customer service practices.

Really great service.

I had a slow drain which would back up into our basement if we ran too much water at once.  Other companies gave me 3-4 days until they could come by, which is pretty absurd when you are running to the basement every time you run any water to make sure you don't have a filth geyser coming out of the floor drain.  These guys instead were so quick I had to race home to beat them to my house after I called.  (On a side note, Metro actually manages to run trains on time when it isn't rush hour... it was really strange to see the train actually come when the sign said it would)

They were great, ran a snake down the line and cleared it out of the bundle of roots which were in the way.  They even ran just about every faucet in the house at the same time to make sure the line wasn't still clogged.  And because they used tarps under everything and cleaned up, the only evidence that something strange had happened in my basement was some cardboard boxes and a Philosophy book that got soaked by the initial backup, which I wouldn't mention except I'm pretty sure that is symbolic of something.

Then my drains had trouble again about a week later.  Not nearly as bad (this time it only happened when the washing machine hit spin cycle and a sink was on full blast), but still a problem.  They came out again, snaked the line twice again, this time as far as they could go using a nightmarish blade attachment.  The roots which were blocking the drain are no more.

And let's be honest, they didn't have to do anything about the problem coming back.  The problem was gone when they left the last time.  How should they know what I've been doing to my sewer connection during that week?  I could have been conducting experiments as to the largest strangest thing that I could get to flush for all Shannon knew.  The whole experience was just top-notch as far as I am concerned.

I hope I don't ever have such a pressing need to use the services again, but if I do I won't worry about finding an excellent plumber.

I had a problem with my supply line shut-off valve for the toilet in my guest bathroom and had a small flooding issue. I called O'Neill Plumbing and they were immediately able to help me take initial steps to mitigate the problem over the phone. They were kind, patient and smart. They were SO helpful, in fact, that they actually explained to me how I could fix the problem myself. I went to the hardware store, put on my imaginary plumber's thinking cap and fixed the problem myself. I wanted to acknowledge O'Neill Plumbing for being honest and informative. They could have visited my property, fixed the problem and overcharged me the entire way, but they didn't. Whenever I have a plumbing issue in the future that I can't handle on my own, I will be sure to call O'Neill Plumbing. This is a stand-up company.

Thank you, yelp community.  Seriously.  You saved us sleepless nights and countless dollars with these reviews of O'Neill Plumbing.  After listening to our toilet run at 0300 or hear it pounding in the walls, we made an appointment with O'Neill plumbing and Shannon came out only a few days later.  On the day of the appointment, not only did he call before to let me know that he was coming, he called to see if he could arrive early.

The day he was supposed to come, the garbage disposal started making funky noises, so when he got here (again, early in case you missed it above) I asked him about it.  He quickly diagnosed the problem, and noted that it needed to be replaced.  Could he do it that day?  Yup, no problem.

So not only did he come prepared to fix the problematic toilet (and teach me a thing about it - who knew that it had two functions, for .. ahem well, two functions) he also was able to install the garbage disposal, explain the warranty and all for a great price.

Oh, and should I mentioned he finished at the later end of the half hour window that was previously provided?  Because, as I mentioned, he was, early.  And that is unheard of.

I'm no fix-it expert so take this for what its worth.  I live in a condo building and the condo manager suggested apartment have their hot water heater serviced to prevent an incidents that could result in damage to other units.  After contacting several plumbing companies I found that O'Neill Plumbing was the only company that would provide an estimate without coming out to my condo and charging me in advance.

I sent the make and model of my hot water heater and received an estimate several days later.  It didn't make sense to me so I called the company and spoke with Shannon.  According to his estimate he wanted to take apart my water heater and rebuild the inside of it for over $600.  It made no sense to me why we would want to rebuild the unit for more than the cost of a brand new water heater and without ever actually looking at it.  I spoke with him on the phone and he tried to convince me that it would need to be rebuilt.

All I was looking for was someone to come out and inspect the water heater, letting me know if there were any parts that needed to be replaced.  All he wanted to do was charge me an arm and leg for a lot of unnecessary work.  No thanks!

I cannot begin to recommend this company highly enough.  I will recommend them to all my friends, and that's why I'm making the effort to come here and tell you all about them.

Like another reviewer said, they were courteous, on-time,  honest, respectful to me (and my home).  By far, the best contractors I've worked with so far.

They gave me a window and stuck to it, I got a courtesy call an hour out, and another 30 minutes before they showed up.  They were very informative, walked me through the troubleshooting steps, explained what they were doing throughout, intervened on my behalf and spoke with the water company to get them to come out and help troubleshoot a faulty water meter.  And in the end, the water company conceded it was their problem and they took over the job.

I will be using O'Neill Plumbing for all my future plumbing needs.

These guys are great!! While it did take two visits to fiugre out the problem (because it was a very hidden leak), Shannon warned us the first time that it might require a second visit - it did and they did figure it out and charged us a very fair price.

Like another reviewer said, they (Shannon and the second person who came out - I forgot hos name) were courteous, on-time,  honest, respectful to me (and my home).  By far, the best contractors I've worked with so far.

On both occasions, they gave me a window and stuck to it, and I got a courtesy call 30 minutes before they showed up.  They were very informative, walked me through the troubleshooting steps, explained what they were doing throughout (what all the possibilities were) and conducted the work that needed to be done, with a minimal intrusion (and in good time).

Looks like this establishment has two yelp pages: yelp.com/biz/o-neill-plu….  Check them both out before you call.

Wow!  Beware Shannon's nasty temper and unprofessionalism.  We called him on an emergency basis because the toilet was leaking.  He then claimed to have fixed the toilet.  When we tested it out, it wasn't flushing, which we calmly pointed out to him.  He then proceeds to flip out on us and scream in a really aggressive manner, cornering my husband in the bathroom, stating that we had trapped him because we called him for a leaking toilet.  Unfortunately we are not toilet experts and do not know exactly why the toilet is leaking.  But when we are charged $450 to fix a leaking toilet, we expect the toilet to flush once its fixed.  He then (all while screaming at us) states that he is about to walk out without taking any money.  We said we just need the toilet fixed.  He then threatens to call the police and his attorney and says he will see us in court, in addition to a mouthful of other very nasty things.  In between the screaming, he got in a few F@#$ yous at us and then stormed out.  Not sure why he wouldn't just fix the toilet, as we would have happily paid him.

This review should be 5 stars. The only reason it's not is because my original service request was ignored for about a week. The plumbing work and customer service was 5+ stars.

Shannon called me personally to apologize for the delay and even went on to explain how I could fix my problem for FREE! Then he offered to come to my house the same day after I got home from work and fix my leaky faucet for a flat fee that was much lower than the other plumbers I contacted.

He showed up right on time (even a little early) and fixed the problem in about 10 minutes. He even showed me how to fix it.

Though it didn't work out for me - I thought the idea to email a picture of my faucet before they came out was great. That way they could give an estimate and be sure they had the right parts before they got here. I didn't find this with any other plumbers I contacted.

I got a lifetime warranty on the parts (which he included for no additional fee) and a year long warranty on the service.

I really appreciate the work he did and would definitely recommend O'Neill Plumbing..

We had a great experience with O'Neill, or as great an experience you can have when talking about a plumbing emergency.

Our water heater started leaking and after calling a big name competitor who took hours to get back to us and couldn't service us until late in the day, we called O'Neill. We heard back from them quickly about setting up an appointment and they asked for details and photos - type, model of the heater, where was it situated, how big was the opening- so they could be sure they had a replacement and that it would fit. They arrived 2 hours before they thought they'd be able to make it out (a lifesaver).

Shannon was friendly and before they even entered the unit, they put down drop cloths to protect our floors and the hallway carpeting. They walked me through each part of the process and reviewed the new configuration before they left, showing me where each valve was and letting me know about the warrantee. They worked quickly and even fixed another plumbing issue we'd been having. Price was 1800 which included cost of water heater, labor and an emergency fee (reasonable since they came off a larger job to help us out).

The folks who referred them to us had called O'Neill once and had been told they could fix the problem themselves if they wanted to give it a try before they came out. O'Neill walked them through the process and told them what part to to buy, at no cost! That seems like a good way to build a customer base: provide fast efficient service when needed, but help folks figure out minor repairs on their own.

I'd highly recommend O'Neill after our experience working with them.

Customer service is HORRIBLE! I guess I spoke to the owner. The website advertised that this company is open 24/7. It even said it was OPEN at the current time I called. 7am on Sunday. It advertises FREE ESTIMATES. I called and the owner answered. I asked if someone could come out to look at a leak in my ceiling coming through a light fixture. The man then replies Is it happening now. I said we turned off the water He says It will be 345 dollars? I said Just for an estimate or to fix This man gets huffy puffy on the phone and says LOOK its Father's Day and I am a Father. If you are looking to just play around and get quotes, call someone else. YOU call me 7am on Father's Day.This is a family owned business and I am a father ! Sir, then advertise on your website that you are closed or not taking calls at 7am on FATHERS DAY. I can't tell my leak to Wait, don't leak today at 7am, it is Father's Day I CALLED PLUMBERS WHO ADVERTISED THEY WERE OPEN AT THAT TIME!  He was extremely rude and would NOT recommend someone with this type of attitude at ALL!

I called O'Neill Plumbing based on the large number of positive reviews, especially highlighting honesty and fair prices, given that in this line of business you can see a very wide range of quotes...

I spoke to Meghan about an estimate for replacing my water heater.  I explained that my water heater was still under warranty and had already validated with the manufacturer that the replacement would be covered based on the issue and some pictures that they reviewed.  As long as the plumber said it was not reparable, they said it was covered.  So I asked Meghan for the cost of installation not including the cost of the heater itself.

Her quote - $1000 flat rate.  I confirmed that this was for just an installation.  If you don't already know, that is a complete rip-off.

It's only one data point so take it for what it's worth.  But do yourself a favor and shop around before you commit to this company.

I was able to get same day service from Shannon. He diligently explained to me the components of the water heater and the respective plumbing. He presented me with options, potential risk/reward, and let me choose. He saw a few other small repairs, cleared them by me, and did them also! There is a 3% surcharge for credit cards though, just so you are prepared w/the cash... Thanks :-)

WOW! An awesome experience from a plumber replacing my garbage disposal! No lie. Shannon (who is SO nice, professional) called me TWICE before appointment. Once at 3:30pm to let me know he'd be closer to 5pm (during our 4-5pm window for arrival) and again at 4:15pm letting me know he was 30 minutes out. Upon arrival he asked if he could enter, where the kitchen was and proceeded to troubleshoot with me there. He gave me a pre-addressed, stamped envelope with a customer service form (for after the service) and explained to me that the disposal would need to be replaced, unfortunately. They were in and out within 45 minutes and explained everything. He even mentioned a 2-year Warranty through his company and to call (magnet placed ON the disposal, of course!) anytime if there were any issues at all and they'd come back out.

No wonder they have THIRTY-THREE (mostly) positive reviews. We'll see how the disposal holds up, but I imagine pretty well given the level of service (and WOW experience) I just received! He even said we're O'Neill plumbing, just like the surfboards, but not with as much $ in the bank, LOL!! Cheesy, but memorable!

Business awesome!

I had a leaking shower and sink as well as a toilet that wasn't filling properly.

Shannon from O'Neil plumbing was extremely professional and pleasant to work with on scheduling the service call - he was able to see me next day and showed up early for our appointment.  He requested I send a pic of the shower water knob so that he would have the proper parts on arrival and that worked out perfectly as he had everything he needed to get started (I didn't get an estimate before he came over, but to get one you simply email [email protected] with pics and description and they will provide one.  After replacing the shower valve, he set to work on the toilet and determined the fill valve/mechanism wasn't working properly so we replaced that as well (he had the parts in his large service truck - which was great).  The sink valve was not originally something I was going to have looked at, but there was a small drip so he was able to replace that as well.  All the work was done in about 1.5 - 1.75 hours.

On price, I have no idea what is fair... From my understanding they do not charge hourly rates, but rather flat rates for specific jobs.  All three items I had done totaled $460 for parts and labor.  Parts guaranteed for 1 year.  I don't have plumbing issues often enough to know if that is decent, but I do know that everything is working again and O'Neil plumbing was easy to work with - friendly and professional.  I paid by check, but I think other forms of payment may be accepted.

A bit late posting this, but I can't stop referring Shannon and his team at O'Neill Plumbing, so thought it was time to echo what others have said.

Shannon quickly diagnosed our plumbing issue, scheduled his entire crew to fix the problem, arranged for supplies and just generally made it the easiest possible repair for what I'd consider a large-scale plumbing project. His crew was courteous and respectful of our home.

Just today we called him again for assistance with our hot water heater. He saved us LOTS of $ by helping us fix the issue ourselves over the phone.

All in all, Shannon and his crew are top-notch. Other contractors / service folks could learn a lot from O'Neill Plumbing.

I am totally Floored!

I think this may go down as the single best customer service event I have experienced in history. I have previously used Michael and Sons and while they fixed my problems, they were Extremely expensive and were constantly trying to up sell.

I looked for a plumber on Yelp after my hot water heater seemed like it wasn't recovering fast enough. I have owned my home for 7 years so I was sure it was an expensive fix most certainly out of warranty....a busted coil or something.

I called O'Neill plumbing and requested an estimate.

I was delighted when Shannon the owner called me back personally. We talked about the issue and the potential problems I may have with my hot water heater.

After a few minutes, he said he could come and do a diagnostic, but then also said I was probably capable of doing it myself. He walked me through the steps to do this and the tools I would need in great detail.

He even answered his personal phone when I was at Home Depot trying to find the tool....THEN proceeded to walk me through the process real time over the phone.  Mind you, this is a Saturday night....a weekend.

He could have easily taken my 150.00 but instead he gave me an hour of his time without charging me.

Who does that? Amazingly nice person....amazing service. I will only use them...and no one else for any plumbing problems I have from here on out.

I hope Karma is listening and gives this man a great Christmas.

I am so impressed. And incredibly thankful.

I'm relatively new to the NOVA area, and I'm also a first time homeowner.  So when my shower decided to stop dispensing hot water, just in time for 40 degree weather, I knew I had to find a good plumber, and quick.

Without any other word-of-mouth suggestions from friends (as most of them rent), I turned to trusty Yelp for advice.  After briefly scouting out all the nearby plumbers, O'Neill's had 30+ reviews, mainly 4-5 stars; while others had 1-2 reviews, varied star ratings. It seemed to be the obvious/safe choice.

Upon calling and explaining my problem, I was quickly able to set up a next day appointment.  In short, as mentioned in other reviews, I received a call about 30 minutes prior to the arrival (1pm) to make sure someone was home.  This worked out perfectly as it allowed me to excuse myself from work and get home in time, without having to wait around for hours.  Promptly at 1pm, Shannon showed up at my complex, friendly and ready to diagnose/fix my problem.  Throughout the entire procedure, he worked quickly and effectively, all while explaining what was wrong, what he was going to try, and how much it'd cost.  In fact, he took a look at both my showers and readjusted both temperature gauges.  The entire visit took about 1.5 hours.  He waited for the hot water boiler to warm up fully and stayed to make sure everything was working properly before he left.

Bottom line:  $150 service charge + 1 bottle of water in exchange for terrific service and two working shower?  I'm Sold!

2 years ago as a renter, I wrote a glowing review of Shannon and his company. Fast forward 2 years as a home owner and I can still say the same things about him. I tried dealing with my home warranty folks about a leaky water heater, but knowing I couldn't get someone out same day and what a sham it was the last time I called, I decided to ask Shannon instead. Shannon called me back within a few minutes and was working out a time to come over same day that wouldn't interfere with my daughter's birthday dinner, well after a workday. He knew the problem instantly and worked a solution for me in less than an hour and for less than it would have cost me through the home warranty. Shannon is a straight-shooter and will always tell you the bottom line, saving you time and money. He'll instruct you through all of his repairs and follow it up with tips for afterwards. On top of it all, they protect all of your carpets and floors with tarps and clean the work areas thoroughly when they're finished. Absolutely professional and competent. You will not be disappointed going with Shannon and his team.

To sum it up, my experience was just weird.

First, the person answering their phone was amazing.  Courteous, understanding and very willing to help me get someone out to fix what seemed like an urgent issue for us!

Shannon called me the night before to talk me through the problem, make sure I was good with the scheduled time and then let me know that they would be coming to my place after their morning appointment - again, very courteous and responsive - what can go wrong, right?

However, when Shannon showed up at our house, things got weird.  He very professionally rolled out plastic and tarping to cover our floors (something everyone who has had a contractor or other workman in their home can appreciate!) and then proceeded to talk me through the possible problem with the clogged sewer line.  All of which are great first steps.  He ran a camera into the drain, we found the clog, and he explained to me that in order to remove the standing water in the pipe (something they would need to run the snake to do) it would be $650.  It's a steep price, but hey it's standing water in a sewage pipe and we can't use the toilets in the house without solving the issue!  I agreed - but then clarified that after we ran the snake and cleared the pipe, I wondered what else we would need to do.  His response was interesting - especially coming from a plumber whose sole job it is to know what's going on with pipes!  He told me that running the snake would not in fact clear the drain pipe or he could not be a fortune teller and assure me it would...and that if it didn't he didn't know what the next step would be or what it would cost.

My reaction was probably the same as anyone else who has someone about to conduct major surgery on the arteries running on the underside of the house - Wait, What?  You can't tell me that this will clear the pipes, and you can't tell me what steps we'll do next and what those steps will cost?  I mean, let's be honest...if you're about to pay $650 to clean the pipes, but you are being presented with the very real (Shannon's words not mine) prospect that the pipe cleaning won't clean the pipes...don't you want to know what Plan B, C or D is, and how much those plans cost?

Shannon was fairly incensed that I was questioning the next steps, and told me that it was clear that we had a problem here...a very weird tone to take with a customer who just wants to know what happens after we perform the $650 procedure and it doesn't work.  He reiterated that he wasn't a fortune teller and that he couldn't tell me what it would cost to clear the clog - claiming it could cost anywhere between $0 and $15,000.  He wanted me to just allow him to do the procedure, and if it didn't work...pay him the $650 and we'd discuss the next steps and what those costs would be.  Who in their right mind does that!?  He tried to cushion the blow by assuring me that he wasn't going to charge me the $300 for removing the toilet to access the drain under it, as my contractor had already done so.  HAH - $300 to unscrew two screws and remove a toilet so you can charge another $650 to run a cable down into the drain that won't remove the clog?!

Of course, as you can imagine things went down hill fast after that.  He told me he was packing up his things and that while he was the best in the business that I wasn't going to be able to use his services.  I commented on his poor customer service and noted just how weird the whole situation was, and he noted that (again Shannon's words) I don't do customer service, I'm a plumber!...I couldn't agree more.

He cleaned up his things, filled out a receipt and asked me to sign it...claiming it stated Customer declines service because plumber isn't a fortune teller.  I refused to sign anything, noting that no service had been performed, but out of the weirdness of the situation, I didn't feel comfortable putting my signature on any document from his organization.  Again, just weird stuff.

He ended the day by taking pictures of the front of my house, and telling me that he wasn't on private property when I asked him to go ahead and excuse himself from my front porch.  His parting words were something to the tune of a phrase beginning with a four letter word starting with F and ending with You.  An encounter that started out so pleasant, got very weird in the middle and ended so poorly.  I can't comment specifically on their work or quality thereof, because he didn't perform any.  However, his customer service lacks severely (something he said himself somewhat proudly) - ask any questions or attempt to understand how much the project you've brought him there for is going to cost and he will walk off the job.  Very poor attitude and approach to his work.  He noted that should I post a review on my experience that he would comment back, so I'm sure he will...but, honesty is the best policy.  My advice, avoid for projects where you want to know the cost ahead of time!

DO NOT USE THESE VERY RUDE / SHADY PEOPLE.  They fixed the indoor pipe issue fine - but he is very brash / rough around the edges in his speech and handling of customers.  The problem was while winterizing our outdoor faucets, they broke the faucet so we need a complete replacement of the hose bib which is upwards of $375 I was being told when I called around. .  I called O'Neil to discuss and the owner threatened to hang up on me because of my children in the background - as he did to his wife when she had a similar issue.   Also, said he didn't believe they did it even though he said he had fired everyone that worked for him before because they were incompetent.  His assistant is the one that did the back, no one was out there until spring when we attempted to water newly planted plants and found it.  The handle was no where to be found, so it didn't just break off on its own.  The owner is very rude and did not own up to their responsibility.  I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM...in the end they are costing me even more $$ and are very rude.

UPDATE: My response from O'Neil to this review was initially positive to call and discuss 24/7, which I was obviously reluctant to do after my last interaction being so unhelpful and negative.  I told him that I didn't want to call unless he was going to offer a solution.  So he said to send a picture, which I did.  He replied that  he believed it could be fixed  and asked that I call back, but he also added, All I ask was not to have any screaming kids in the background when I called back.  I decided that it wasn't going to work to have them come back out -- customer service horrible.  I have 2 toddlers and run a daycare - they may squeal with joy or cry and I cant have someone flipping out because they cant deal.  In the end, it cost us and additional $130 from MyPlumber, but that was an AMAZING experience, I couldn't recommend them more highly.  The plumber even applied a coupon code for $30 off to save us some money without our inquiry to lower the bill from $160.  In the end, I asked O'Neil plumbing to reimburse us against our previous bill which was rather substantial $885 and I would be more than satisfied and update the review to reflect this.  It has been over a week and they have not responded to this inquiry and don't expect that they will.

We've got nothing but great things to say about O'Neill Plumbing. Shannon is nothing but straightforward, professional, and extremely courteous, and he places a high priority on providing peace of mind to his customers as much as the outstanding repair itself.

We had a fairly medium-to-major issue with some copper pipes from the water main into the house that sprung pinhole leaks, causing some minor water damage. When we first called him on Memorial Day weekend to see about scheduling an appointment, he actually called us back while on the only vacation he's taken in the past two years. He offered to come out on the Monday holiday at his regular rate, but we declined in favor of a temporary solution he walked us through.

When he arrived on Tuesday, we had discovered that the problem was worse than we expected, but he still kept his costs as reined in as closely to the original estimate he gave us over the phone. The repairs were perfect, and we even had a follow-up problem (not Shannon's fault) that was covered by the warranty on the work he
gave us.

We're going to call him back later in the month to help with some minor drainage pipe leaks I've discovered, as well as a leaky toilet flange. Shannon is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, and he truly cares about the work he does, and we can't recommend him highly enough.

I only have great things to write about O'Neill Plumbing. I've used them twice and they have provided excellent service both times. They are very accommodating (came out w/in hours of calling on a Saturday evening) and didn't charge extra fees), professional, clean (cleaned up debris left behind from cutting into my drywall) and went beyond the scope of a project to fix another plumbing issue (leaky toilet).

No doubt I'll call again if I ever need a plumber.

Note:  I'm only docking Shannon a star because I can't actually evaluate his plumbing skills. He's probably actually worth 5 stars.

Long version:  Sunday evening, I found what I thought to be a toilet leak and freaked out (I'm new at this stuff). Based on the ratings here, I called a few plumbers and O'Neill Plumbing was the only one able/willing to come out before Tuesday (!). In fact, Shannon was also booked up all day Monday, so he waived the weekend fee AND cut his weekend short, showing up within 90 minutes, to help me out. Unfortunately, once he was inside the wall, it was evident that my toilet was fine and instead I have a roof leak :o(  So I can't speak to his skills as a plumber, but for customer service and responsiveness, plus tolerating all my stupid questions, he definitely gets a gold star!

One con:  O'Neill's base fee was a little higher than the other quotes I got. For substantially more responsive service, I was happy to pay the difference. But if you're planning ahead & cost is an issue, you may be ahead to get competitive quotes.

Four stars because Shannon was initially fantastic, and kind enough to stay on the phone with my husband and walk him through what to do about our leaking shower drain, and on a Sunday evening no less.

Loss of the fifth star because of the way he just treated me on the phone. Granted, my husband and I screwed up, we both thought the other one was canceling the appointment we'd made and ended up canceling it the day of--that's not cool. But it's no excuse for how I was just treated.

I apologized, and offered to pay the $50 cancellation fee, but Shannon wouldn't accept either an apology or the fee, preferring instead to tear into me until I hung up practically in tears (it's possible that's just because I'm pregnant, but I also don't particularly appreciate being yelled at by a stranger at 730 in the morning).

These guys were (and are) fantastic. Not only did they effectively and efficiently fix a plumbing emergency I had back in April 2018, but they have continued to make themselves available as I have worked to fix the issue with my property manager. These are solid people and excellent plumbers and I would highly recommend them!

Work has not begun yet, however this review is based on the evaluation so far and the process to find one.
As such, they were extremely responsive. When I called to make an arrangement for an appointment, I got planned following day, and the specialist from O'Neill Plumbing touched base on time. I was exceptionally satisfied to see that when he went into the house, he hauled out shoe covers and promptly put them on his shoes. That was a pleasant begins :) I had many things to repair or supplant, and he took an ideal opportunity to clarify my choices. He was exceptionally proficient and aware.
The assessment additionally came in rapidly, following day. Email trades were all around took care of, with fast reactions too. He was extremely willing to work out a value that is agreeable to everybody. I'm looking forward for their work.

Last night I came home to discover my one and only toilet's water basin wasn't filling up and that the filter likely needed to be replaced. Early the next morning I tried setting up appointments with the first two companies I came across in a google search. Unfortunately neither of the companies was able to provide immediate same-day service and I thought I would have to settle for scheduling the appointment for three days later. Thankfully I came across O'Neill Plumbing and they were easily able to provide the support I needed. Besides the fast service I also appreciated that the company talked through the issue with me on the phone first so they could identify a likely solution instead of just scheduling the appointment. The technicians were also great - very quick and professional. I highly recommend this company!

Highly recommended!

Shannon replaced my water heater back in 2011 and they did a 5-star job as well.  When the pilot light went out yesterday and I couldn't get it lit, I knew he could help.  First he talked me through the process on the phone to make sure I was doing the process correctly.  I appreciate this because it shows that he isn't just trying to make a quick buck on an unnecessary visit.

When he confirmed that there was something else wrong with it, he arranged to meet me on my lunch break and he showed up on time (why can't the cable guy do this?).  He diagnosed the problem quickly and ordered the replacement part on the spot.  Most importantly, he found that I never registered the heater so he did that for me so I could take advantage of the warranty coverage.  Seriously, that is a sign of a reputable businessman!

All in all the parts and labor were covered and my water heater is back working again with a few more years left on the warranty, so I've got peace-of-mind that Shannon got me a good product and always gives great service.  I can't recommend O'Neill Plumbing enough!

We have used them a couple of times for minor plumbing issues. Their staff is courteous and responsive. They kept their word that they would come within 24 hours. In fact, they came the same day that we called. We needed them to come back right away to address another issue, and they did. I would definitely recommend them, especially in cases where you need someone right away. It seems to be a small, family owned company, which we like to support.

I used this company a couple of years ago to replace a sump pump.  I should have asked for an estimate so that's my fault but because I didn't he decided to take advantage of that and charged me a ton for it.  I also found him to be quite unprofessional and very aggressive.  He was downright mean to the person  helping him. I would not use him again.

My garbage disposal broke on Saturday and as a result I had water leaking down under my sink.  I called the emergency line and asked for the price ($150 for emergency service plus parts and labor). I said I wanted to consult my husband as I was calling a few companies (all on an emergency basis) and he yelled at me saying I was wasting his time to call him for a quote on an emergency basis. I was so confused - just because I call the emergency line, I'm obliged to use your service even if your quote is too high?! He likened it to calling 911 when you aren't having an emergency and hung up on me. Seems this guy is in the wrong business if he's going to get upset with people cost comparing.

I chose O'Neill based on all the great Yelp reviews.

Shannon came out the next day, was very friendly, and great to work with.

He came out early after calling to see if that was all right.

He made a point to explain what he was doing and what was going on.

He was very nice to my kids and invited them to watch them work.

His pricing was as described in previous reviews and seemed fair.  The pricing was relayed over the phone when I made the appointment and it was as promised.

He and his colleague cleaned up after themselves and actually reapplied new caulk after they removed some.  I don't remember a plumber ever doing that before!

Shannon was very nice and professional.

He's my new go-to plumber.  Highly recommended.

And the Yelp coupon was honored!

I called O'Neill on Friday afternoon about a leak from my kitchen sink. Shannon called me back  with a couple of hours and asked me to e-mail photos of the leak and where it looked like the leak was originating from.

Mid-day Saturday, in the middle of other jobs, Shannon called back and diagnosed the leak as something I could easily fix myself. He walked me through the fix (it took two minutes without any tools) even though he could've taken and charged for what would've been the easiest job of his day.

I'll definitely call Shannon next time I have a plumbing job.

Had an issue with the leaky bathroom sink pipes and needed them fixed.  Decided on O'Neill plumbing after reading good reviews and gave them a call with an appt. scheduled on Sat. morning.  As others have said, they gave me a window and stuck to it, and I got a courtesy call 30 minutes before they (Shannon and his assistant Ignacio) showed up.   Shannon was personable and professional. He walked me through the troubleshooting steps, explained the work to be done, and completed the work.  Prior to the work, he laid out tarps around my carpet, and along the work area.  He was very organized, and kept his work area very clean. Afterwards, he documented what he did by writing it on the receipt invoice which I appreciated very much.  I highly recommend their service.

I recently purchased my first home and needed a plumber come in to check out a few minor issues.  When I called to make the appointment, the receptionist actually connected me to a plumber/ the owner, Shannon, and he asked detailed questions about my issues.  He asked me to try a few DIY fixes first, because he didn't want me to pay if I didn't have to.  How great is that?!

I ended up not being able to tackle these DIY, so he came out the following week (it was not an urgent request).  I got a call about 30 minutes before they arrived, and they came right on time.  Shannon came out with two other plumbers as well, and he was sure to introduce everyone so I felt comfortable having them come in and out of the house.  I was able to walk him through a few of the issues I had concerns with, including additional issues that I had not originally discussed on the phone.

The team was able to make the hot water work on the basement shower (it had an emergency valve that kept the temperature at the hottest, luke warm), replaced an outside hose hookup and also updated the piping that hooked up to the outside (the home was built in the 50's),  they replaced an overflow device that was incorrectly installed in the bathtub, and they also checked all sinks/showers to make sure pressure was ok.

All of the work is under warranty for a year.  I will definitely contact O'Neill Plumbing again for any future issues.  Service is top notch, and even if they were to charge a little more than other companies, I would absolutely prefer to stick with this wonderful company.

This review is several months overdue ...O'Neill Plumbing is a business you need to consider for all your plumbing needs.

We had problems with our gas vented water heater and needed replacing immediately - I called a couple local places, one of to go to Alexandria plumbing businesses in this area came to survey the job, and didn't even give me a quote back (even after i called twice to ask for it), I now know the job was challenging and their probably used to charging premium rates for easy fixes.  Through yelp, I found Shannon and O'Neill Plumbing - all i can say is thank you Yelpers.!!!!!

Without this site, i never would have learned about Shannon and I consider myself extremely lucky to have found him.  His work is exemplary - he is a so knowledgeable and honest .

I was so happy to read the many 5 star reviews - Shannon deserves all of them! He is a straight shooter with his recommendations and for that I am grateful.  For our job, we needed to replace our gas venter water heater, and 2 very aging sump pumps - financially we were not able to do it all in one shot, Shannon helped us understand the priorities - there was never any pressure and ultimately within a short window we had Shannon complete all the needed work, and let me tell with all this bad weather - our basements have remained dry whereas many of our neighbors have had problems....

Had a leaky faucet that wouldn't stop when I tinkered with it.   Shannon came over the next day and tightened it extra good and stopped the leak right away.   He then explained exactly how it worked and said I could spend a bunch of money on replacing the faucet, or leave it as it was.

Then he said there was NO CHARGE.   I couldn't believe it.  He said he didn't do much (although he did drive out here in rush hour).  Very nice guy who is smart and honest.  He said his father was a plumber and I can see he takes his trade seriously.

I don't think you can do any better.  I'm going to call him any time I have a plumbing issue for sure.

Josh  rocks and doesn't putty shit around while fixing leaks! We had some communication issues (no phone service, just txting) due to the earthquake but he was able to find my place. He was able to locate and remedy my tub's leak in less than 15 min...the boy has skills! He then tested his fix out  to make sure things were dry!

I think the company is awesome. The person who answers the phone and makes the appt rocks by asking for your name, address and an email address! They'll send you the invoice via email the next day, so you'll have two, a hard and soft copy. Mr. O'neil called the following day to say thanks for doing business w him - another touch!

I've updated the contact list on my condo assoc so that when people are looking for a trustworthy plumber, they'll call O'Neill's and get Joshie!

I'm a first time homeowner and needed a shower drain fixed/replaced.  I honestly know very little about plumbing, but Shannon did a great job explaining things and took the time to show me how to care for the new drain to avoid future problems.  While here, he went above and beyond by addressing other issues I was concerned about such as low water pressure, and a tub that wasn't working.  He also showed me where the main water valve was in my house and how to turn it off and on.  I mentioned that I would be looking to replace the master bath tub with a shower, and he whipped out his phone and showed me what type of faucet I should buy to help cut costs.  I am very impressed with his work and found him to be very friendly and knowledgeable.  I will definitely call him again and recommend him to friends and family.

Never again! Let's just say I ended up throwing $100 in his face and he threatened to come back to my house and break all the pipes that I payed him to fix. Lucky for him my family was there. He was nice up until it was time to pay and he looks at you with a silly smirk and talks to his right hand man who can't even speak English. The only thing I thank this guy for is for giving me the motivation to do my own plumbing for now on.

I found this company on Yelp, and called them to have a drain cleared. I told them I needed it done by the weekend, so they scheduled me for Thursday. On Thursday morning, a snow storm was rolling in, and they called to cancel. I was totally okay with that. While the roads weren't bad at the time of the appointment, the forecast looked rather dire. They called later in the morning, and we rescheduled for Friday. On Friday morning, they called to cancel again, saying that the roads were still bad (the roads were fine), and asking to reschedule again. At this point, I told them I'd pass. Their dispatcher proceeded to verbally berate me, because I wasn't interested in rescheduling again. He told me that he was happy that I wouldn't be their customer, because I was clearly a jerk.

I was actually taken back a bit by that response. Listen, I get it, if you think there's a safety issue, you're not going to send a truck out. That said, if you're going to reschedule, you better be really sure that you can meet that commitment. Telling a customer that he's a jerk because you cancelled on him twice is a bit much. Especially when they charge you $50 if you cancel your appointment.

I own a grocery store & deli and had a drain in our deli area backing up on a busy Friday night. I called Shannon at about 8:00pm, he advised he would be there by 9:00pm and showed up at 8:45pm apologizing that it took so long for him to get there.

He looked it over, gave me a more than reasonable quote before starting anything, got my go ahead and got to work. He brought his equipment in, did the work and got his equipment out without interrupting our business and without making a spectacle of the whole thing. He even tried to sweep and mop our deli area for us even though he hadn't made a mess.

He was extremely courteous, extremely professional, extremely polite, very very reasonably priced and extremely fast/competent with his work.
As a busy owner who routinely deals with plumbers, HVAC guys, etc. Shannon was by far the best experience I have ever had with a service industry professional.

I would highly recommend O'Neill Plumbing to anyone needing fast, professional plumbing work.

Had a clogged sink in our new apartment. Nothing too crazy, but being new to the area was very cautious in choosing what plumber to use. Saw O'Neill was one of the few highly rated plumbers and decided to call. Simply put, glad I did. Received a courtesy call an hour before they were coming, asking if they could come early, which worked perfectly for my schedule. Came in, explained the issue and all of the avenues to fix it and gave me their recommendation. Within forty minutes they had completed the job, cleaned up and were on their way out, while my sink was fixed.

Would highly recommend them. Both quick and courteous, and also just genuinely nice guys.

O'Neill Plumbing does great work.  They've come to my place three times now for different plumbing needs, and I've found them to be professional, knowledeable, and courteous.  They are expensive, but I don't know that they're any more expensive than other plumbers out there, and at least you get what you pay for.

These folks are top-notch professionals.

I had water backing up into my kitchen sink. My building manager advised me to call a plumber. I made an appt with O'Neill for the next day. The situation became worse so I called the afterhours number. Shannon returned my call within 5 minutes. Based on my description, he confirmed that the situation was with the condo's mainline rather than my plumbing so I needed to call my building's service company. He even offered to talk to them if they continued to argue about responsibility.

The building's service company took care of it. Shannon even called back to confirm that everything was getting resolved.

It's great to find a service company which is truly committed to service. I have no idea how their pricing compares to others but I'd hire them for any plumbing job based on my experience.

Bottom Line Up Front:
If you want the best plumber in the DC/Northern VA area, contact O'Neill Plumbing. We had a kitchen drain problem that could not be resolved by homeowner plunging/snaking, and another plumbing company came out TWICE and ran a snake FOUR times before THEY GAVE UP and said they could not fix it.

Shannon O'Neill was contacted, and he came out with the proper professional plumbing equipment to do the job right. Shannon is very passionate about his work-- he asks a lot of questions to aid him in the proper diagnosis of the problem, and then explains what he plans to do to solve the problem. He puts everything in writing and lets you know what the charge will be up front. (Yelp coupon honored!)

Shannon goes the extra mile, and when he needed to access a roof-top vent with an over-hanging tree limb in the way, he offered to remove it for free. We were going to do this anyway, but it had been so HOT outside... we had just been putting it off. This was no small limb either-- but Shannon and an assistant carefully cut up the limb and branches, taking care not to damage the roof or gutter, and dropped the removed limbs and chunks of wood to the ground.

Shannon solved our drain problem, simply because he was so persistent. The other plumbing company gave up, but Shannon kept working the problem until he came up with the solution. Our home is an older home and the drain access was not what it appeared to be... but because of Shannon's determination, he came at the problem from another way and was able to clear the drains so it now has the whirlpool effect of a fasting moving drain again. It has been years since we have seen that.

As noted in so many of the other reviews, Shannon put down tarps to protect the floor, etc. so he is consistent, and he has a great work ethic. We also discussed another minor plumbing problem in the basement, which was a potential pin-hole leak in a copper pipe. The other company wanted to schedule a separate visit and charge me an additional $125--while Shannon took care of the problem on the spot for FREE.

Bottom line is... you get what you pay for, and if you want the best, be prepared to pay a little extra. But then, keep in mind you will get someone who is passionate about their work, someone who is willing to go the extra mile and provide you with a job well-done, and then some.

One last thing, you always hear people say, Use the right tool to do the job. Shannon O'Neill has professional grade plumbing equipment, one reason he is a true high-quality plumber. The other guys showed up to do the job with a snake no bigger around than the one that I had purchased at Home Depot--the only difference was mine was 30 feet and their was 50 feet. Even then, they only had one auger bit with them, and they were not prepared to deal with any tree roots if their snake ran into them. On their second trip out they brought a longer snake with 3 additional bits, but from the packaging they looked like they had just stopped at the local Home Depot and picked up a set.

Again, I say, You get what you pay for--and you need someone with the right tools to get the job done right the first time. Go with Shannon O'Neill plumbing--you won't be disappointed.

I selected O'Neill Plumbing because they were the only 24 hour plumber that could actually come out and address my weekend plumbing emergency the same day -- and it was the *best* call I've made. I've now been using O'Neill plumbing for the past year, and will never use another plumber.

Shannon (the owner) is a consummate professional, who calls ahead to confirm his appointment and update me on his arrival status. More importantly, Shannon (and the rest of his crew) truly take pride in their work, and are adamant that the job is done right, to the customer's satisfaction.

O'Neill has done several repairs now, including both indoor and outdoor work, and he has always done a fantastic, quality job. One of his projects was repairing my kitchen sink drain and the water connection to the fridge, which I had previously thrown money away paying someone else to fix. Shannon did it *right* and charged me less than the previous hack had charged to not-really-fix-it. His prices are reasonable, and (don't tell him this), he is undercharging based on the quality of his work, and his dedication to his customers.

I could not recommend O'Neill Plumbing more highly. They are simply the best.

Shannon and his team are great!!
They are so good that when I called to book an appt Shannon explained that they don't work on the toilet we were having a problem with. (sloan flushmate)
He said he did not think it was right to come out and charge me a service fee to tell me they dont work on this toilet when he could do it over the phone!  He then told me how I might be able to find the part and the plumber that work on a flushmate toilets....I took his advice, found the part (for free) and the plumber and the toilet is working fine.  Shannon and O'Neill are the best!!

Would have rated ten stars if possible.  I called with an emergency on a Sunday.  Even though its Sunday and  I am outside of his service area, Shannon went to great lengths to diagnose my problem over the phone, put me in touch with a local plumber, and even offered to come out later in the evening if nothing else worked out (despite it being a Sunday, other emergency appointments, and family engagements).

Used them once previously and service was prompt, professional, courteous, and priced right.  Cannot recommend highly enough.

Shannon and his crew provided excellent service. I recommend O'Neil plumbing to anyone as Shannon goes above and beyond traditional customer service. Shannon explains every step and why such steps are necessary. He's friendly and extremely professional which comes as a breath of fresh air when dealing with others in the profession.

Shannon and crew are considerate of clients' time and follow up to ensure the project is completed. In short I will rely on Shannon and crew for all my plumbing needs.

I've never made a yelp review before, but I made an account just to say how happy I am with O'Neill plumbing.

I was out of country on a business trip and my wife called me about a leak in the wall, wet carpet, water damage, you know the kind. Cue panic mode for me, having her send me photos and trying to diagnose the issue from overseas. After we started to figure out what was going on, I had her call O'Neill plumbing. We'd never used them before, but the positive reviews here gave us comfort.

Shannon showed up and took a look at our problem, and spoke to me on the phone as he diagnosed the issue. It turned out that there was an unusual backup in the drainage system for the A/C unit and he was able to fix it quick and easy.

But here's the best part! After he finished, he told me that he wasn't even going to charge us a service fee for the work, he said it was a new problem for him, and he didn't think we should have to pay for him to learn!!! He essentially only charged us the emergency call fee which we authorized when we asked him to come out in the first place.

Shannon went above and beyond to help us a solve a confusing problem with a difficult system, and was kind and gracious when billing time came.

I will use them again, and I would recommend O'Neill plumbing to others.

This is the second time I've used O'Neill Plumbing and the second review I'm writing (and only the third yelp review I've ever written). Shannon does a great job, is fair and cares about getting the job done right the first time. Look no further and just call them.

I contacted O'Neill Plumbing related to a plumbing issue with a leak in my condo after seeing the great reviews on Yelp.  I didn't end up needing their services because it turned out to be an issue that the condo took care of.  I wanted to highlight a few things however- professional and courteous communication by Megan who handled scheduling and setting up an appointment for the following day.  I haven't needed their plumbing services, but if I ever do, I will know whom to call.  Thanks Megan!

I had an experience similar to a couple of other reviewers - I couldn't even get past the estimate! My faucet started leaking the Sunday evening before Labor Day, popular evening for things to go wrong. So I called, expecting to leave a message, but I was pleasantly surprised that someone answered. The guy I talked to was a little unprofessional on the phone, but it's a plumbing company not The Ritz Carlton so I didn't think anything of it. I was asked to send in pictures via email. I did so, and didn't hear back for THREE DAYS. By then, we'd already had the problem fixed by someone else. Great business model.

Gouging rates! Buyer beware. I called in about getting a sink hooked up, and was quoted at $1,000 dollars! Seriously? That's a small fortune. For that price, I will personally enroll myself in trade school to become a plumber. What on earth makes these people think that they can justify charging $1,000 for a 2 hour job? I refuse to pay someone $500/hr for a basic sink install! I suggest going with an hourly general contractor who also does plumbing work, because this company will take every penny! Also, please don't give away your location right off the bat, as they will up the charge for the more affluent regions, such as Fairfax. Jeez!

Update - They called back and re-quoted $500 as the new estimate. Unless you're a doctor or a lawyer, $250/hr is still too much.

O'Neill plumbing is the best!  We had a plumbing issue at our home that M&Sons made worse by fixing the wrong thing, refusing to redo their work, then sending out the wrong people several times and alluding that it would cost $7-8K to do the repairs.  After we could not take it anymore my husband called O'Neill plumbing.  They came out same day and had the issue fixed within about an hour for a fraction of the price.

They were professional, prompt, courteous, honest and just everything you would want in someone who works in your home.  They treated our home like they would treat their home and were truly interested in finding and fixing the issue.  Shannon and Mike were fabulous and we will always be using them in the future!

I guess we're the exception. Plumber shows up reeking of cigarette smoke then proceeds to write up a $500 estimate to unclog 2 slow running drains. I tried to explain to him that the two drains were on a common line and if he did one the other would clear too, but he wouldn't even let me finish, he just wanted to know if I wanted it done or not.

Flush 'em.

First of, they say they will call 30 mins. prior to showing up, well, guess what happened....you're right, no one called.  I had to call to make sure they were coming, so that already showed me they were a bit disorganized and not too customer-minded.

Prior to my appointment, I described my spontaneous, off-and-on, pipe vibrational problem and thought it may be the pressure reduction valve.  Repairman shows up, doesn't even bother checking to see what the problem is (did not do any pressure measurements prior to repair), just took my word for it, and proceeded to change the PRV.  Less than 40 min later, I am out $450.  I guess they didn't really care what the problem is but a PRV fix is quick and makes them more money than other plumbing problems.  I thought it was a bit much jut to remove a PRV, but given he's a professional, and I am not (and don't want to create a leak), I guess I am paying for it.  I just find $450 a bit high to change a valve, it's more along a $300 job, but I guess that is the going rate around here.

The repairman that came out reaked of cigarette smoke.  Use some cologne and a breath mint.

I probably should have tried to do it myself and save some $300.

If you use credit card, there is a 3% service charge, no one said that prior to coming out.

Update:  Four years later and PRV failed again....unreliable plumber offer faulty materials.

If you're really considering O'Neill Plumbing, make sure you read all of the filtered reviews for the true picture.  Do not rely on the stars on the first page, or the 22 good reviews showing - only 7 are even from this year.  Of the 98 filtered reviews, 25 are mostly current 1-star ratings with disaster stories.

I'm baffled by all of the 5 star ratings and applause for coming back 3, 4 ,5 times - Don't you want someone who can do it right the first time?

I called based on the the 5 stars, didn't read the other reviews, huge mistake. My shower didn't work, water only coming out of the tub faucet, I wanted it fixed quickly.  $150 to come out, fine, should be easy. I had to take a picture and send it in, so they could make sure they had the parts on the truck. Right.

Josh arrived, took a 2 second look, then immediately went looking around the pipes, and told me I should rebuild the whole thing for $425, and could pay 1/2 today.  How about you go see what the actual problem is before upselling me. And why would I pay 1/2 down today for anything?  I should have asked him to leave at this point.

Josh attempted to remove the shower handle, gets out a big wrench and says I'm going to scuff this up. Ok, you're going to leave marks, fine. 30 seconds later the handle has been broken off, shearing off the shower diverter tip with it.  Josh says he's not responsible for this, (You broke it, who else would be responsible?), says he warned me it would break, and I authorized it  (No, you did not, you were going to scratch it). They do not have the part on the truck of course, but he'll find it, they'll call me soon.

He was arrogant enough to place an O'Neill Plumbing magnet on my refrigerator sometime during his visit, which I found later. Who touches people's stuff like that?  Hand me the thing, don't touch things in my house. I'm pointing that out to relay the arrogant, direspectful tone of this business, from it's owner to it's employees.

4 weeks later no one had called, I call them again and get a return call from the infamous Shannon.  Based on all the 5 star reviews, and not having read the hidden reviews, I think I'm in good hands, the owner is going to get this fixed up.

Not. Shannon was combative from the start, they can't find the part, what do I want to do. Well, what are my options? They  can rebuild it all, or maybe there's a generic part.  Not that they'd tried to locate said generic part, which is what Josh said he would do.

After being pleasant and hopeful this would get resolved by the owner, then getting his attitude, and being left hanging for a month,  I said I wasn't so happy I'd paid $150 for Josh to break my shower handle and now they can't find the part to fix it.  Shannon lost what little composure he had and became truly horrible, launched a screaming, unprofessional tirade: 9 out of 10 handles break, he's glad this happened because he's not working on faucets any more, he didn't have to work for me, he's going to post on Yelp he doesn't work on faucets, etc.

Turns out the actual problem was the shower head, which I identified and replaced myself (should have checked that before calling, live and learn - but I'm not the plumber). I said it was too bad they didn't check that first instead of going straight for dismantling the shower, and got another tirade about telling him how to do plumbing.

Actually during this rant he asked me if I told my hairstylist how to do my hair. Yes, of course I tell them what I want. No, Shannon just tells them to make him look good, and evidently you're supposed to give them free reign in your house for whatever they want to do, and don't question them, because they are doing you a favor by taking your business. If anything goes wrong, good luck to you - problem resolution is usually a mark of a good business - that's not here.

He said he'd send my $150 back, since they advertise they stand behind their work.  No refund ever happened.

They do not stand behind their work, they try to intimidate, yell, upsell, nasty business and nasty behavior, completely unprofessional.  I ended up having to yell over Shannon that I was ending our conversation and hang up.

Dealing with them was a complete hassle and very unpleasant. I would report them to the BBB, but I'd have to deal with them again, which is not going to happen.

I called a real plumber, who had the part the next day, installed, $125, hassle free.

Call ANY other plumber than these guys.

I do want to start off by saying I cannot comment on the quality of their work but only on the communication and estimate process.  I called in after reading pretty stellar reviews on Yelp.  We had a few plumbing issues to address so I called in and Megan answered, she was very nice on the phone and asked me to forward some pictures of the faucets.  I sent those in and called a few hours later.  She said she was still checking into it.  I called in the next day around noon and they were still trying to get prices together for an estimate.  I finally got a call back around 3pm the next day to say they were going to refer us to someone else.  By that time I already had found another plumber and already had the issues repaired.

So all in all they were always very courteous on the phone to me but very slow in communicating an estimate, which in the end they were not even able to provide.  I cannot speak bad about the quality of work they provide since I did not end up using the company for the repairs.   I would give 3 stars but according to the yelp rating that is a-ok and this experience was more like the two star rating of Meh. I've experienced

Chase M. makes a very very true point.  Shannon is a loose cannon.  He did a job for me and things were ok so long as we never called him.  The moment we did, he stopped taking our calls and even cursed us out on the phone when we did manage to reach him.  His assistant Megan is his girlfriend.  She's very nice but there's little she can do.  Stay away at all costs.

Well, Shannon sounded helpful and patient on the phone first, but coming out of nowhere he wanted to charge us 30% more because we asked too many questions. Now, he respectfully declined to perform any work in the estimate.
I don't want to bluntly post the lowest rate here, because others seem had good services. But we do feel uncomfortable about the rules of the game here. As first-time homeowners who have never dealt with a plumber before, we of course want to know more details of the job and options. What is the point saying feel free to contact us if you have any questions about the estimate if you just want us to take it or leave it?

Have to agree with Michael and Jole's reviews!

Called O'Neill for a clogged toilet at a rental home we own in Falls Chuch. It was a Tuesday. Quoted $250 emergency charge if they came same day and $750- $1200 if toilet is first floor (thus main line clog)- which it was. I passed on them and found J&L Plumbing. They quoted a flat fee of $150 and charged same...and came same day. I almost got REALLY ripped off by O'Neill and can see why they have several one and 2 star ratings. Buyer beware!!!

Someone broke the handle of my bathroom sink's faucet. I decided to call O'Neill Plumbing based on the glowing Yelp reviews. They asked me to send pictures of the faucet via e-mail to asses the problem.

The following day I received a call from Shannon, who told me that he would be sending me an estimate for the project. Six days have since passed without any response from Shannon despite my follow-up emails and calls. I am giving up at this point.

I am sure this company is good, but they must not have the time for small jobs like replacing a bathroom sink's faucet. I wish they would have just told me that the job wasn't worth their time and money. They have wasted so much of my time.

First Impression:  At first, Shannon was really great.  I was having hot water heater problems and he spent time on the phone with me (free of charge) helping me trouble shoot.  When it became apparent that I couldn't fix it myself, I called Shannon to come in and just replace the unit with a tankless.

First red flag:  He first quoted me $1100 over the phone, then changed that quote to $1800 the next day, which I still thought was a good deal.

Second Red Flag:  He planned to come at 10am on a Tuesday to install the water heater.  At 7am(3 hours before our appt.) on the day of installation, Shannon called me and left a voicemail saying he had to cancel.  He didn't provide any explanation, just said he couldn't come.  I know schedules can get tough, so I was understanding at first.  I called his office, and his assistant said he would call me back to reschedule.  I left two messages for Shannon throughout that week, and he didn't return any calls.  I was understanding in my tone and still very willing to work with him that week.

Now I'm pissed:  The following week, after not hearing from him at all, I called his office and spoke with his assistant to tell her how frustrated I was that it had been a week after he canceled at the last minute and hasn't even called to reschedule.  After that call, Shannon called me back right away.  I told him I was dissatisfied with his customer service, and frustrated that he couldn't even give me a date to put on my calendar.  He told me that I should be grateful to him because he spent time on the phone with me without charging me for it. I explained that he never asked for payment, but the minute he gave me a price for the water heater I pulled out my credit card and was ready to go.  He also suggested that I should be working around his schedule, and I explained that I would have loved to know what his schedule was but he canceled and never returned my calls.  After our very confrontational phone call, I decided to use another plumber.

Overall:  Shannon gave me a good price quote over the phone, and was very nice at first.  But when it came to scheduling and actually installing my hot water heater, he's miserable and rude.  He has an assistant, Megan, who is very nice, but serves as no more than a middleman (she doesn't even know his schedule).  He canceled on me at the last minute, didn't call back to reschedule for a week, and was rude when we finally did speak.  Avoid him if you can.

I called O'Neill plumbing with a definite plan in mind. My water heater has been making unusual noises and based on my internet research the water heater needed to be drained and flushed.  I put off calling a professional because of past stress inducing experiences with other companies where I was duped into believing I needed extra services and was billed for them at an astonishing price. So, imagine my surprise and relief when the owner, Shannon O'Neill, answered the phone, politely introduced himself and promptly told me not to waste my money getting the water tank drained and flushed.  He basically just did the opposite of overcharging me; he severely undercharged me (free). Not only that, he spent the next 30 minutes thoroughly answering all of my plumbing concerns without skipping a beat.  After the 20th question, when I sheepishly asked if I could ask one more question, he said sure, you can even ask two.  He treated me professionally and respectfully and never once insulted my intelligence while he educated me on the ins-and-outs of water hammer, pipe expansion, the water heater lifecycle, and many, many other topics.

My home has been making so many noises that I told him I was concerned it might explode to which he responded, if your home explodes, I will be your personal liaison through the process - haha, good answer! He told me that plumbing is a lifestyle to him and he is available 24/7, so if my water heater breaks down anytime, I can just give him a call and he will be here. He also mentioned that sometimes if you do not get the tank flushed, when it's time to replace the tank, it could be a more difficult and expensive process because of the rust etc underneath the tank. Shannon told me he charges the same for tank replacement even if it's a tougher job than usual, and that he takes the bad with the good. This is a family business and I can tell Shannon takes it so seriously and is passionate about his work. He also told me that if ever is on vacation, he has a backup on call.

This is the kind of service I received just from one phone call in which I was determined to make an appointment. This was not intended to be an inquiry, but I am glad it was because in the end it turns out that I apparently don't need a plumber, which is a relief. Most people would have happily taken the appointment and performed an unnecessary service. And I doubt he really had all of this available free time to listen to my concerns, as I am sure he is busy with clients. It was extremely generous on his part! Based on this, I will be reaching out to Shannon for future plumbing needs. He is honest and knowledgeable and it's rare to find a business where you can deal directly with the owner rather than employees who don't care about the fate of the business for which they work.

Far and away the best repair business of any type I've ever hired.

The problem: my toilet had a leak and flooded my bathroom floor.  I turned off the water to the tank myself, drained the water from the tank, mopped up the flood, and called O'Neill Plumbing after doing my Yelp research - looking for a high rated small business with good customer service that I would feel comfortable allowing into my home (I'm a woman living alone).  The girl I spoke to at their office (Megan) was incredibly polite, up front about an estimated cost of repairing what I saw to be the problem, and scheduled the repair within an hour window.

Day of repair: Josh arrived within the hour window I'd been given from the office (even with rush hour DC traffic!), and I even got a courtesy call half an hour before he arrived.  He replaced the part that I had seen leaking, I paid over the phone with the office, and I received an e-mailed invoice of service and a copy of my credit card receipt within five minutes.

An hour after Josh had left, I noticed that the toilet had started leaking again and had flooded the bathroom floor again.  I called O'Neill Plumbing's office again, spoke to Megan, and then Shannon came on the line and said he'd come right out and be there within an hour.

The second flood wasn't any fault of Josh's or his work - it was mine.  I had asked for a specific repair based on what I'd seen (as a woman, I often ask for specific repairs in order to avoid getting pressured into an expensive repair or purchase I may or may not need), Josh had done what I'd asked, and ultimately that wasn't the actual problem.  Nonetheless, Shannon showed up within the promised hour, diagnosed the real problem, took ownership of my toilet and it's problem, and fixed it for a bargain - ensuring that my toilet no longer leaked and I didn't have to harass my absentee I can fix it myself when I come into town landlord for another month in order to get the problem fixed.  He even went out to Home Depot (at 8:00 on a Friday night) to get a part he didn't have with him.  I've never been so grateful for honest businessmen in my life!!

Josh, Shannon, and O'Neill Plumbing were on-time, respectful, generous, courteous, and professional, and they went out of their way to fix my problem and to fix it correctly.  I'll recommend them to absolutely anyone!

We called O'Neill plumbing last week to report a clogged main drain and had them come out same day for an emergency visit. During the visit we were told that the problem was our guest bathroom toilet and that  it needed to be replaced. 1000 dollars later we had a new toilet that would fix our problem. This fee included a $150 emergency fee. However, 4 days later after returning from a weekend away we realized that the problem wasn't fixed at all. So we called O'Neill back, and were told that it would be another 150 fee and 1200 dollars to flush the main drain. After finding a more reasonable and less expensive company we called O'Neill back (this was all within 10 minutes). We were told in no uncertain terms that we would still be paying the 150 dollars for 10 minutes of their time, even though no one came out and this was the same problem that they supposedly fixed last week. Feel free to call O'Neill if you have a clogged drain, it will cost you 1150 and your drain will still be clogged. But hey, at least you'll have a nice unusable toilet.

Jekyl and Hyde.  We've used O'Neill several times, including for a huge job that cost 15k.  Expensive, but generally good (contractor quirkiness within the normal range).  But catch Shannen on the wrong day, and you are doomed. He rescheduled a routine appointment (his request) until today.  But the day he was scheduled to arrive, he cursed out my wife for not sending pictures (the pictures were sent to his wife, but he didn't have them) and then said he wouldn't have the parts in his truck. When asked if he should reschedule when he had it together, he flew off the handle.  Long story short, this is a guy who bitched out my wife, a good customer, when we  had paid him 15k earlier this year.  Not sure what's going on in his personal life to make him cranky, but hire at your own risk.  I don't need the drama so I'll find a new plumber. Too bad. His wife is nice on the phone, but he's apparently a short fuse.  Look elsewhere. I generally treat people who pay me huge sums of money respectfully, but apparently O'Neill has a different view . Never written a review, much less a negative one,  before, but had to out of principle on this one. Beware.

This guy is top notch.  Called tuesday and he wasn't available til thursday, so it sounds like he's doing good.

Was supposed to arrive at 230-330

He called around 1 and asked if he could come early, and i said yes.  he was there 30 minutes later.

I had a backed up drain from my washing machine - after running my snake multiple times, it would run good for a couple of days but it kept backing up.  So I called in an expert.

Shannon treated me like a friend and made me feel comfortable with his work.  his helpers were polite and made sure to keep my new carpets clean.

He ran a huge snake down my drain, gave me a warrenty, and I have never seen my sinks drain so fast.  I am happy as a clam.  He took the extra time to run hot water down the drain for about 20 minutes to check the performance.

he brought all of the right equipment and would have used a camera and locator if he hadn't been able to snake it out.

Interesting guy to talk to, as well.

Will call Shannon next time I need a plumber.

This guy is good. A little more expensive than I might have expected, but you get what you pay for. His service and professionalism makes up for any additional cost. He replaced a pipe for me nearly a year ago. We were pleased with the work. Nothing fancy, but he was quick and took care to clean up after his team (it happened to be a dirty, snowy day, but he made sure to put down coverings so they didn't track in any dirt). Called him again recently due to some issues in my shower (water suddenly stopped flowing!) and he diagnosed over the phone (I just need a new shower head). This took 2 phone calls, a number of emails, and quite a bit of his time. He did not charge a dime. I'll be calling him again the next time I need a plumber.

Shannon and O'Neill Plumbing really care about getting the job right. We had them come out for a clogged main sewer line a couple weeks ago, and the first guy who came (who was very nice and professional) had estimated $6K+ to dig and replace the pipe. Shannon came out himself to double check, fixed a clogged toilet in about three seconds for no extra charge, and spent an hour working on the pipe, sending the cable down, checking with the camera, sending the cable down again. He showed me every step what was happening, took the time to answer any questions, talked me through it all, and when we found the problem (a stick my boys had thrown down the access pipe a couple months ago) he didn't stop until he'd cleared that, and checked again - no break, no pipe replacement needed. In addition, he said that since the stick had likely been there the first time they came out to clear the pipe, this would be no charge - so not only did he save us thousands of dollars in repair work, but he didn't even charge for the visit. He clearly cares a great deal about his customers, and takes his responsibility to maintain the great reputation of the company his dad and grandpa built very seriously.

Shannon also won major points with me by being so patient and kind with my two little boys, letting them ask questions and taking the time to show them what he was doing, and listening to their chatter. I am so impressed with Shannon and O'Neill Plumbing's concern for their customers and willingness to do what it takes to get a job done correctly. We will not hesitate to call them with any future plumbing concerns we have.

Wow.....I woke up New Years morning to a water heater that smelled like it was on fire, and water spewing out of the bottom into my basement. I called O'Neill after calling another place who couldn't make it out until Monday. Megan took all of my information and immediately transferred me to Shannon so I could talk to him about what the issue might be. He came out to the house telling me he didn't have a tank big enough but he would still come out and see what the issue might be. He got here right on time, and even called 30 mins ahead of time to verify he was on the way.

He took one look at the water heater and noticed that the wires were singed and that, as I thought, the water heater needed to be replaced. (We found out the water heater was from 1986!) He understood that we were desperate for hot water, and called around to find us a water heater that was big enough. He then left to go pick up the bigger water heater, brought it back and installed it with no issues, until it was time to turn back on the breaker. We then discovered that the breaker had shorted  and it needed to be replaced in order for the water heater to work. He called Home Depot and figured out which breaker we needed, and left again to run to home depot before they closed. On his way back from Home Depot he called again to make sure we knew he was on his way back.
When he came back, he replaced the breaker and Voila we have hot water!!!

Throughout the day he was always professional, timely, explained everything to my fiance and I, and was very friendly. I will recommend O'Neill Plumbing to everyone I know, and will be a customer for life.

So I had a sick hot water heater. I called O'Neill after having a bad experience with Plumbline Plumbers here in DC.
Megan took my call and gave me some suggestions for electric hot water heaters. I told her I'd like to research these heaters and get back with her. After several calls back and forth I decided on one. Unfortunately, it had to be special ordered(isn't that Always the case....).
Megan kept me up to date with emails on the order. Once it came in, we scheduled an installation time.
Shannon the owner called to tell me he was on his way. He showed up with a friendly smile and funny personality. He was very professional, yet.. a hoot to deal with . Shannon was careful to lay down rugs so he and his sidekicks wouldn't scratch the floors. He had my heater in in no time and even cleaned up the old lines that were attached. I like things organized and was really impressed at how nice and neat the pipes were.   I then asked if he could install a garbage disposal, hook up my fridge and dishwasher and put in my cool new ikea sink and faucet. He looked at it and said...hmmmm ..I could do it today for 800.00. I told him I needed to first cut a little off the end of my wood counters as the fridge was a little tight.. he said very excitedly.. I just got a new blah blah blah saw that is kickass! I'll cut off for you as a bonus!    Done!   I was thrilled with O'Neill Plumbing, Shannon, and how he handled the entire process with a smile and good attitude.  I will definately keep him as my Plumber!

Called about a clogged sink and was told $350 just to show up.  $50 deposit and couldn't make it for a couple of days.  I called roto-rooter and the were here in under an hour and half the price with a estimate once they looked at the problem.

Um, so at 11:30pm, my toilet exploded.  I couldn't shut the water off. (long story, I don't want to talk about it, okay?)

Let the flooding begin, I thought to myself.  I climbed into my shower and had a brief cry in defeat before remembering that there are people that can be called for these types of things.

Internet Jesus (ie Google) lead me to O'Neill Plumbing.  Like any hysterical person in crisis, I checked yelp before giving them a call.

Shannon was at my house by midnight.  Talked me through everything in simple terms, and averted what I was sure would be thousands of dollars in water damage and mold mitigation.  He was honest, respectful, and even funny - which was needed and appreciated during a time of omgmyhouseisbroken panic.

My only recommendation - he should invest in a cape.  This guy is seriously my hero.  I won't be calling anyone else for my plumbing needs.

I was very happy at first; Shannon came quickly, installed new toilet and told me about some adjustments I could make myself.  Expensive but seemed worth it.

I had an unrelated plumbing problem later and called O'Neill.  At the time of the appointment they called and said he had an emergency and couldn't make it.  Fine - emergencies should take priority.  The first I could be rescheduled was a week out!  I wasn't pleased but we set it up; I really liked Shannon the first time and was willing to wait a week.  The day of my reschedule they called again and said he had an emergency and couldn't come again.

However, this reschedule - now the 2nd one - was going to have to wait another week. I would have thought the customer getting bumped would take priority when being rescheduled.  A repeat customer, at that.  I could understand having to wait maybe a day or two, not 2 whole weeks (on top of the time between my first call and first appointment.)

Now it's down the road and the toilet he installed was leaking. For some reason I was willing to give Shannon another chance.   I called not once but twice asking him to call me to either walk me through replacing a gasket (or whatever) or we could schedule a repair.  To this day there has been NO return call from O'Neill.

So I got another plumber to fix the toilet Shannon installed (much less expensive, by the way) and he showed me how the first one had been installed wrong (he had installed the supply line without the washer - amazing it hadn't leaked more.)

This is the first negative review I have ever submitted.  However, O'Neill has proven to be such a disappointment I need to warn other potential customers.  I was very pleased at first - but down the road, the follow-up is awful.  BEWARE!  Don't fall for the initial flash and dash!

The reviews on here are correct. Shannon was able to come out just a few hours after I called to schedule an appointment this morning. He was on time, called ahead like he promised so I would not have to leave work any earlier for the appt than necessary, then fixed the showerhead and stopped sink quickly and for the reasonable estimated amount. He and his assistant Lenny (who is very good too) even suggested a cheap fix to a problem that another plumber previsouly said would require breaking thru drywall and replacing pipes, and he promised to follow up with me, obtain the necessary part, and fix it at minimal cost.
Also the company was able to give me an estimate over the phone, unlike other area plumbers who want to charge you a $75 visit and then give an estimate once at your home--if you don't like the estimate you are out $75 and a wasted day.
Highly recommend!

O'Neill Plumbing (Shannon) replaced an old Moen leaky tub/shower cartridge today.  Couldn't ask for more speedy service (even though not an emergency); courteous, professional, and expert.  Very reasonable cost.  Made what could have been a difficult job go very smoothly.  Highly recommend and will seek again if we have other plumbing needs.

The flexible water supply line to my Arlington townhouse's hot water heater split and flooded my basement. With just two hours notice on a Friday morning Shannon was at my house and was put to work. I haggled the price he quoted and immediately dropped the price 20 per cent and then did the work in half the time i expected. He showed me how to flush the water tank (something everyone should do at least once a year) and left the place clean and tidy. I would recommend him to anyone needing plumbing service. And there is a warranty on parts and labor. No brainer.

Once again O'Neill plumbing came to the rescue. Excellent service. Shannon is extremely knowledgeable and will tell it like he sees it. There's no mystery in what he is offering and the price you are going to pay. We have used O'Neill for emergency situations and for larger, more complicated projects. We have been extremely satisfied each time.

My wife and I were referred to Shannon O'Neill from our handyman contractor. We were having issues with hot water and water pressure coming from our kitchen sink, so we called Shannon this morning and were so impressed that he not only answered the phone but he tried to troubleshoot over the phone!

We tried to make the corrections based on the suggestions we received from Shannon but were unable to fix the problem. He ended up coming out to our house this afternoon and spent 4 hours taking care of the issue...He even went to the store, called us as to which type of fixture we wanted, came back and installed the new part with no trouble.

We were so impressed with him and his services that he even checked our hot water heater, master shower head (it was leaking) and adjusted one of our toilets...yet did not charge us for that extra time!!!

Being a real estate agent O'Neill Plumbing is our new plumber and will be referred to all of our friends and clients! Professional, Courteous and Knowledgeable!!!

Thank you for everything you did for us!!!

I never experienced such a rude and unprofessional company. My significant other called and scheduled an estimate apt with the O'Neill's. At first upon arrival Shannon was very polite he complimented our house and explained the quote and the work to be performed. He told us that he had to cut into the wall to find the problem and that it would cost $150. We agreed to the work and I left leaving my significant other at the house. I am the owner of the house so I told my significant other to call me and update me on what needed to be done and the additional cost once they found the leak. Shannon found the leak to be a pipe and informed us that we had wood that was rotting and possibly mold behind the wall, in addition he would need to cut the pipe and fit the pipe, and that this would cost an additional $275. My significant other was trying to explain this to me through the phone but I was not clear and wanted to speak directly to Shannon. I addressed him with respect and asked was it true that nothing else would be performed besides the cutting and fitting. He then explained that he cut us a deal on cutting through the wall and that yes he only does plumbing. I said wow I didn't know things like this cost so much and said thank you and asked to speak with my significant other so we could make a decision. As soon as my significant other got on the phone with me I heard Shannon in the background yelling and saying you people want work for nothing and that he didn't want to perform the work and that he was packing up and leaving. He was very irate and cussing and unprofessional all because we asked some questions about pricing. This was all while my significant other and I were just trying to decide whether or not to move forward or to attain another quote.
So we told him to get his shit and get out you don't come to someone's house and start disrespecting them. Then the story gets even worse, I called the main office and explained the story to the lady that picked up the phone, at first she listened and apologized for my experience. I informed her that I would be writing this review on here and Angie's list, plus the better business Bureau. I then said that they should talk to Shannon about his professionalism. She then got upset and started yelling and told me that I was unprofessional because I left; I tried to explain to her that my significant other was there but yes he still had to get my approval. She just kept yelling so I hung up on her. I will never recommend this company and anyone who uses them beware that if they come out for a quote be prepared to  use them for the work or they get really upset and disrespectful.
This was one of the worst experiences I have ever received and I never even want this business mentioned to me in conversation.

We decided to replace our 19-year old hot water heater.  Even though it performed like a champ, who knows when it would give up.  So, I got three bids.  O'Neill's bid was right in the middle of the pack and they had a great attitude, so I picked them.  I am convinced I made the best choice possible.

Things I liked:

1.  The owner and guy who lead the job, Shannon, is friendly and has a great attitude.  His admin, Megan, is also extremely nice.  His helpers were great.

2.  They called me 30 minutes before they arrived, and they were EARLY!

3.  They finished the job in less than 3 hours, faster than they estimated.

4.  Shannon took time to answer all my questions and then some.

5.  They kept everything clean and made sure my house looked the same as when they arrived.

6.  They back up their labor with a warranty to match that of the water heater.

Things I did not like:  I can't even think of one.

Folks, this is truly one of the best contractor experiences I've ever had.  If you need plumbing work, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND you consider O'Neill.

Shannon is good people.  Called ahead, worked around MY schedule and came as promised.

Showed up, after a quick conversation, gave me a quote, and gave me a detailed and reasonable explanation of why the quote he was giving way different than the estimate I got over the phone.

Some other companies were available sooner, but O'Neill's estimate was definitely on the lower end of the 5 companies I called.  Some companies wouldn't give a quote, and charge a hefty fee just to come out.

The only negative was the water spout pipe he replaced, which wasn't the focus of the job, was longer than the old one and later required some light plumbing work of my own to make it fit.  But I'm happy and would use again.

I always try to go with a small business when I can, but O'Neill Plumbing was a bit too gruff for me to consider professional. I'm not the type of customer who appreciates being belittled because I don't know about plumbing -- that's why I called a plumber. I have since dealt with several plumbers who treat their customers with respect, and I'm glad to have found one who I can rely on to give me honest and polite service. Don't be afraid to call around until you find a plumber who you want to work with.

Used O'Neill Plumbing for the first time to fix a messy disposal & drain issue. They were very fair, honest and upfront in their estimate, and did excellent work. Excellent company - I will definitely use them in the future.

Shannon O'Neill responded to a plumbing emergency on the Saturday of the long Inauguration weekend.  He quickly came to the house himself, arriving exactly when he said he would arrive, and accurately diagnosed the plumbing problems.  It turns out that our emergency required only heat and patience to solve - but I am grateful that Mr. O'Neill did not attempt to squeeze unnecessary billable work from our frozen pipes.

Mr. O'Neill stopped by the house the following day, on his own time, to check on the condition of the frozen pipes - a level of follow-up I have never before seen.

We will be contacting O'Neill Plumbing again soon to scope out some non-emergency work.  We have every reason to believe we will be able to repeat our five-star rating.

I was comparing quotes for my company for some plumbing work and O'Neill offered to come look at our suite for free to let us know what we needed. Shannon arrived on time and took a look at our bathrooms. He seemed very knowledgeable, gave us a few pointers, and even fixed a few minor things for free. Then he quoted us a price to fix two major things.

I spent two weeks comparing quotes from other companies and then decided to give Shannon a call back with a quick question about the quote he gave me. (I was really pushing for my supervisor to choose this company since he had been so helpful during his visit.) Well apparently Shannon was in a bad mood when I called him because he was incredibly rude on the phone. He told me he didn't want to come back to our suite to fix our problem but would if he HAD to. He also insulted my supervisor and took offense to my question about their quote.

In my honest opinion - if you are looking for some quick plumbing work I'm sure you wont have any problems with these guys. But if you've got an extended project or anything that might tick off Shannon, stay clear!

If your job isn't expensive enough and you don't bend over backwards for this guy, he will treat you rudely and refuse service.

The owner is rude and unprofessional.  When I asked what part needed to be replaced because I thought my home warranty might reimburse me after I paid for O'Neill's services, the owner immediately assumed I wanted a free consulation from him and did not plan to pay him. Completely incorrect.  I tried to explain that my warranty allowed me to use whatever plumber I wanted, but the owner refused to listen to me and repeatedly talked over me.  Although I said clearly that I wanted to hire him, he became indignant and refused to complete the work, stating that the job wasn't worth enough money to him.  He appears to have strong reviews, I guess their jobs were more expensive.

Before looking at the STARS read all the negative reviews-- you will thank me and those who wrote them.  I wanted O'Neill Plumbing to work out for many reasons but unfortunately it did not.  One of the main ones is that I am a real estate agent and always have to have a great plumbing company or two in the Rolodex.

That's what I was after in O'Neill plumbing (or should I like most say SHANNON) which in my opinion is a one man operation because he more than likely can not keep steady employees-- why because as one individual review put it best-- MULTIPLE PERSONALITIES.

In short and the reason I decided to write the review is because upon SHANNON leaving abruptly and declining the job, he said I know I will get a bad review-- so here it is.

Now for the details:

1) He cancelled and I had to reschedule after having an appointment for a week and the condo building had to send notice that the water would be shut off during this time.  Mind you he did call many times to discuss various aspects of the project after he received the pictures-- it was nice and annoying at the same time. The point is that we spoke and he knew the water needed to be turned off and notice sent and after several conversations I had the impression that it would only take about 20 minutes to do that piece of work because he had a high tech no leak guarantee equipment for just these problems.

2) He asked me to reschedule-- I did for the next day and again we discussed the water issue and we said we could ask for an emergency shut off or just do it another day for that particular part of the job.

3) He arrived-- late but only 30 minutes.

4) He walks in, sees everything, I show him the new faucet I purchased-- he wanted to sell me one but I found them for much cheaper.  He begins to complain out of nowhere, asking what is this for, what is that line to, etc...

5) He ask about the garbage disposer and where did I get it from and how much did I pay for it-- he never heard of the brand which is a top of the line Waste King Legendary Series disposal.

6) He then went on to complain about where the faucet was placed, the other work in the place, etc, etc....

7) Shannon then said unless I wanted to pay to get a p-trap, faucet, and disposal installed for a bargain dollar figure with three ,000's behind it then he would have to decline the job.  Yup.

So after cancelling, my waiting, and simply telling him I was happy to make any changes he needed to get the job done, it was still a great act.  Like another poster said, I think all the talking is an act to win you over or the blow up is another way to see how desperate you are and how much he can charge.

IN CLOSING THIS IS HOW THINGS WORKED OUT:

1) I PURCHASED A NEW SINK (cost nothing-- returned other)
2) Cut the hole to fit the new sink (10 minutes)
3) Installed the new faucet I purchased based on Shannon's recommendation (30 minutes)
4) Installed sink (30 minutes)
5) Installed the E-Z Mount Waste Kind disposal (30 minutes)
6) Installed the p-trap (30 minutes)

Everything was done, and I did it all myself with a couple of trips to Home Depot in between for elbows, etc and help and clarification.

So the entire process to me about 3.5 hours to do myself and I learned a lot.  I think contacted another plumbing company to come out and check my work and they did that for $75 bucks and corrected one thing and put some glue on a elbow.

Shannon does seem to be a nice guy and professionalism does not mean someone who talks your ear-off.  I wish him the best and everyone else who decides to use him and hope you get the Shannon that wants to actually do the work, is not over scheduled, who does want to be honest and allow you to buy your own parts, etc...

Comment back to Shannon's Post:
I have no problem with refusal of service, it is the way in which you did it, I have a problem with.  For me cost was not the issue here, the property is not even mine, I'm just helping some folks out that helped me out (turning out to be a headache because of contractors-- who scheduled and refuse service after that) but no worries it is all resolved so all is well that ends well.  I just wish you would have been more professional about it.

After quickly skimming numerous favorable reviews, I contacted O'Neill Plumbing after experiencing trouble with my water heater that resulted in me subsequently having to shut off water to my house.  Contacting O'Neill, I identified the specific part that I believed to be the cause of the issue and requested emergency service (in the early afternoon on a weekday).

The person with I spoke to seemed perplexed by the fact that I was requesting a plumber to come on short notice, despite O'Neill's website stating that emergency repairs are available (even 24/7).  However, even more surprising to me was that I was informed that O'Neill's only services one brand of water heaters (as do they only service certain brands of toilets too, per another review).

While I might understand a plumbing company only installing one brand of product, O'Neill's will not even service another brand, even in situations where a universal part would suffice.  O'Neill's instead told me to contact the manufacturer's assistance help line in order to find a plumber.

I am astonished that a plumbing company would so freely turn away easy business and instead direct an individual to another plumbing company.  The courteous master plumber from Rush Companies plumbing service was in and out within 30 minutes, having billed an easy $120 that would have surely gone to O'Neill's if not for their mind-boggling practice of only servicing particular brands.

Shannon is like something from another time where you felt like businesses really cared about their customers. When I woke up to frozen pipes this morning, I called Shannon at the suggestion of a friend who had worked with him. Instead of rushing over here, he suggested I try a couple things that he very graciously took the time to explain. He said this is what he would do anyway so he could save us a bunch of money from the house call by explaining it to us first. He said to call back if we had any questions. We did -- four times over the course of the day and each time, he answered the questions patiently and clearly. In the end, with his help, we got the problem fixed. He never had to come over, and he charged us nothing for the advice. Who does that anymore? We will never go anywhere besides Shannon moving forward.

I called Shannon at O'Neill Plumbing because my basement walkout drain was emptying slowly. When he arrived (on the same day I called), he realized the problem was much worse and needed more work. Even though it was after 6pm, Shannon and his partner worked as long as it took that evening to clean out my clogged sewer line as much as possible. AND he took the time to properly and carefully reinstall my toilet after discovering that my general contractor had not secured it to the floor previously! Shannon is a really down to Earth guy running a very honest and efficient plumbing business with fair prices and great customer service. He will definitely be our go-to plumber in the future.

I can't say enough good things about these guys. Shannon is awesome, professional, prompt, and very good at his job. Our power went out in an ice storm, and the sump pump died, flooding the basement. i called them this morning and Shannon was here within the hour. A few hours later i had a new sump pump at work. Because the power was still out, they brought a generator to run it off of. There's another storm coming tonight and Shannon told me just to keep his generator in my yard through the storm, in case we lose power again before the sump pump battery was fully charged. Now THAT is service. It sucks to have your basement flooded and i hope it never happens again. But if it does (or any other plumbing issue for that matter) I know exactly who i am calling.

I cannot say enough about the quality and professionalism of Shannon and his crew.  We had a recurring issue with drains in our basement backing up and needed to replace the outflow pipe.  Shannon came out on a Sunday and knocked the job out to perfection.  In addition, he accommodated several particular requests in order to satisfy a particular neighbor, given the work was being done right on our property line.

Shannon, who runs O'Neill plumbing, is a very honest business man. He came out to our home (was considerate enough to call when he got stuck in traffic and knew he was going to be a bit late) and looked at the plumbing problem we were having. He ended up diagnosing a problem that we could easily fix ourselves, and he didn't charge us for the visit--even though I tried to pay him. He is a good guy and a straight-up honest business owner. We will definitely be calling O'Neill plumbing when we have a plumbing problem we *can't* fix ourselves.

What a great experience!  I also found O'Neill Plumbing on Yelp and am glad I did.  The reviews here all proved to be true.  We used O'Neill Plumbing to replace our water heater and complete several plumbing projects during our kitchen renovation.  None of the contractors we used for other projects were even in the same league.

From the very first call, Shannon, the owner of O'Neill Plumbing, personally answered the phone every time.  For each of our several appointments, they were on-time or called to let me know if they were running even a few minutes behind.  Each appointment also resulted in a follow-up call the next day to make sure that everything was satisfactory - which is was each time.  Finally, their prices were very reasonable, especially considering the outstanding customer service.

Overall, this was the best experience we have had with a service provider since buying our condo.  I will definitely use O'Neill Plumbing again in the future and highly recommend them to others!

I recently had the misfortune of needing my entire sewage line replaced from the house to the street (Orangeburg pipe).  At the recommendation of another plumber (and much Internet research), I called O'Neill Plumbing.  Shannon O'Neill, the owner, contacted me immediately and was at my house by 11:00am (same day).  Shannon and his crew were extremely professional, knowledgeable, and informative (i.e. transparent).  He was able to diagnose the problem quickly (collapsed/occluded sewer line) and informed me of my options.

Upon my approval, Shannon coordinated the entire [replacement] project to include: acquiring all necessary county permits, contacting the necessary utility companies (for line identification), and summoning the appropriate crew/excavating equipment.  They started work at 4:00pm (same day) and restored all water and sewage lines by 10:00pm.  It was a massive undertaking.  The following morning, FFX County inspected the work and Shannon's crew meticulously backfilled the trench and laid sod.  Very impressive!

I highly recommend O'Neill Plumbing.  They are a well-run, professional organization with a focus on quality and customer service.

Turns out when you have an old house you are bound to have a lot of plumbing issues. Well, we've had them all. Since my husband and I bought our house, we've had Shannon come out to do several smaller jobs - like 2 toilets and a shower - and some bigger jobs - replacing pipes to a shower, fixing an exploding garbage disposal drain, and helping completely rearrange the plumbing in our kitchen as we were gutting it for a reno. Once he fixes something, it stays fixed.

He really does a great job and I don't see any reason why you would call a different plumber.

Much like Bruce M.'s review just below this, my wife and I had an urgent plumbing issue due to a leaking water heater and our first call was to a giant plumbing company.  After waiting 3+ hours (between 2-5am), no call backs from them, and no help on the way, I found O'Neill online and made the call after reading their reviews.  Shannon had me explain our issue, then made it his priority to be at our home within the hour.  Since the water heater is in our townhouse's attic utility loft, he and his team had to navigate a tricky layout.  Initially thought to be a leaking T&P valve, he even guaranteed he'd be back out if the heater itself proved to be faulty -- sure enough it was, and he was back the next morning after another emergency call from us to replace the whole heater.  Couldn't have been nicer/more understanding and his team worked efficiently and professionally to ensure we were taken care of.  Will definitely be calling O'Neill Plumbing again for any future issues!

Very pleased. Managed same day service with less than two-hour turnaround. Service was spot-on, quickly fixed, and provided an estimate for another job quickly at the end upon my request.

They even coordinated with my home insurance company to be sure the job would be covered and reimbursed by them.

Just very happy with the professionalism, help, and turnout across the board.

Best plumber that never came to my house.   Let me explain.  My shower faucet was leaking.  I replaced the cartridge on my own, but that didn't stop the leak, so I contacted O'Neill Plumbing via email to request an estimate to come out and fix the problem.  Shannon, the owner, called about 2 minutes after I submitted the email.  He spent a good 15 minutes with me on the phone talking through possible causes and ultimately determined that the replacement cartridge I purchased, while the correct model, was not the original manufacturer's cartridge.  He recommended I buy the original manufacturer part instead.  Get this, after we got off the phone, he contacted the plumbing supply store and placed the part on order for me.  Didn't ask him to do that, he did it on his own.  Unbelievable.

Shannon is a great guy, and was seeking the least expensive and most effective way to solve the problem.  I bought the original manufacturer cartridge the next day (only $30) and it stopped the leak.  I was worried it was going to run me at least $250 for Shannon to come out and fix it.  But because he took so much time with me on the phone to diagnose the problem, I saved a lot of money and hassle.

Shannon knows what he's talking about, and just as important, is honest and very patient.  Incredible.  If you need a plumber, give O'Neill plumbing a call.   Fantastic plumber!

I called O'Neill Plumbing last month when I experienced a broken lateral sewer pipe.  I called them based exclusively on their Yelp reviews and the fear that my plumbing problem was pretty significant.  Although the extent of the problem wasn't known at the time I made the appointment over the phone, the O'Neill Plumbing staff was helpful and upfront about everything, including the initial costs.

Shannon came over super fast (probably a couple hours after I called in) and ran his camera through the lateral pipe, it was apparent that it was broken and that his crew would need to dig down quite a bit to fix/replace it.  This was the line used to get EVERY drop of water out of our house so I was pretty anxious to get the problem resolved, being alone with 2 kids for the week.   Shannon quoted a price, which was not cheap, but promised to fix the problem that day.  He said he would stay as long as it took and that emergency same day repairs is what I do.

True to his word, Shannon did fix the problem.  He got Miss Utility to do an emergency marking of the utilities and came back a couple hours later with more crew to start the digging.  To even his suprise, the lateral line was buried very deep--maybe 8 feet deep within very narrow confines.  It was so deep that his crew had to drop a ladder in the hole and, from the surface, you couldn't even see the person digging.  I knew it was going to be a late night job and Shannon finished the repair after midnight. He explained everything that was happening and what he was doing and took pictures.  He even showed the huge break in the pipe section and left it for me in case I needed it for insurance purposes.  He then filled in the hole with gravel and dirt and took away some huge rocks that were in the ground.  After further discussion, he said he would came back the next day to pretty it up and make sure the pipe was completely clear.  The next day I returned from work and everything was swept up, the soil was evened up, grass seed was planted and burlap cloth was laid over to prevent the seed from blowing away. I Haven't had any problems since with our plumbing.

This was all a huge relief for a sudden and stressful situation.  No, it was not cheap. Maybe somebody could have done this a little cheaper, although the amount of work and earth moving was significant and wouldn't have been performed inexpensively by anyone.  Furthermore, nobody could have done it any faster.  I think of all the work that was done from the time the call was first made (mid-afternoon) and am amazed.

I've read some of the recent reviews, and am suprised at some of those who have had unpleasant personal interactions with Shannon.  Yes, Shannon can be a bit blunt and direct, but it doesn't bother me.  And I think he is professional and very competent in what he does.  Further, he keeps you, as the customer, in the loop and answers all your questions.  He was on time and kept his word about cost (even when it became more complicated than he originally thought).  I also got the impression he would be very helpful with any followup questions or requests.

Honestly, think about it--How often is it that you can have any kind of repair service work done on short notice, the same day?  And how many of those outfits have Yelp ratings this high?  Hopefully, something like this never happens to me again, but if it does  I wouldn't hesitate to call Shannon.

Our water pipe burst outside under our sun room on a Sunday morning and we had to shut off the water to the entire house. Not only was Shannon at my house within a couple of hours of my initial inquiry, he called to let me know he was in route. I found his services to be efficient and diligent. His sense of humor was also appreciated. He took the time to diagnose the problem, explained the situation, and even spoke to my insurance agent over the phone to let them know what was going on. I have unfortunately been cheated by one too many contractors, and with Shannon my instinct is that he is not of their breed. I would highly recommend his services.

Shannon is exceptional.

I called O'Neill Plumbing around 9 this morning and spoke to Megan.  I explained to her that I just wanted an estimate for a leaky shower faucet.  She asked if I had pictures (which i did) and gave me an email address to send them to.  I received a call around noon from Shannon saying that he could come out that afternoon between 3:30-4:30 and that he would give me a call 1/2 hour prior.  I was shocked!  He then called me back around 1 and said that he was able to come out earlier if that was ok with me.  I was flabergasted.  He arrived at 2:00 and did a fantastic job.  Not only did he fix my leaking shower faucet he also unclogged a sink drain for me.  He is very pleasant to deal with and answered all of my questions.  On top of that where can you find a plumber that offers same day service without the emergency charge?

I highly recommend Shannon and his team for any plumbing needs you may have.  I know I will be calling him back the next time I need a plumber.

TERRIBLE COMPANY!!!!!!!!  So when the voice mail came through on my cell phone I immediately called back only to be told that I was out of the 15 minute call back rule that they have, he called he said at 12:03 but I did not get the call until 12:18 and I called at 12:19, and to be lectured by the plumber about not being courteous to the companies policies.  During his lecture I hung up to call the main office to be told by the very nice lady that she would discuss this and get back to me.  She called back and asked that I call the owner.  I did and as he again started to ask questions about the call he informed me that it was him who called and I was wrong.  After his lecture again he stated that his is O'Neill Plumbing and that he did not want my business - guess what I don't want yours either!!!

Well, it may be a good enough service if you get to it, but like many other reviewers I couldn't get past the estimate stage. Apparently Shannon works only with people who shut up and do what he says. I had the audacity to ask respectful questions (as a person who does to deal with plumbing issues on a daily basis), which quickly made him angry and defensive for no reason and culminated in I respectively decline to give you an estimate. Seriously?

My problem was a water heater. I needed a repair not a replacement. Several firms would not take the job that day nor were they interested in anything but installing a new machine. O'Neill took my job the same day. We exchanged information about my problem via email and over the phone. I was sold on the company from the first contact. The problem was assessed quickly. The estimate was the true price. All my questions were addressed BEFORE they even arrived. I learned things talking to the team and while Shannon was onsite. They fixed my water heater -- replacing heating coils and electrical switches. They flushed the sediment and checked the household water flow before departing. They called that evening to check on the hot water. I will use them again next time I have any problem. If the service is as good, I will bump them to 5-stars. My thanks to Shannon and Maeghan. This is a stellar plumbing service! The owner Shannon is extremely knowledgeable and takes pride in his work, something that is SO hard to find now-a-days. My hot water heater died abruptly in December and since it also pumps my heat, I needed to get it fixed ASAP. O'Neill plumbing was able to acquire the special type of water heater my condo requires and install it in the same day. The crew went above and beyond to make sure they left my place neat and the owner Shannon called me a few times afterward to make sure everything was working right. Plus he gave me a great price that was the lowest of the four quotes I had gotten and included a six year warranty. A month later my heat pump stopped working and O'Neill Plumbing came out within 4hrs to help. Shannon and his crew diagnosed the problem within 2min and had it fixed in 15min free of charge. I would recommend this service to everyone!

I haven't actually had this plumber come service anything at my house, but I have to post a GREAT review for the service they provided me by not coming to my house.

It's Christmas Eve and we're expecting a 3-day snowstorm. Of course this is when my water heater decided to go out. Attempts at relighting the pilot failed. I found these guys here on Yelp, and called them up. The woman who answered the phone was helpful and assisted me by looking up my serial number and informing me that my heater is still under warranty and recommended that I call the manufacturer to send someone out for free. Just for going out of her way to do that I was appreciative, but it doesn't end there.

I called the manufacturer and was unable to get a hold of anyone because they were closed for the holidays, and would not be open again until Monday (during the heart of our expected storm). My heart sunk, and I called this company back. The woman very quickly put me in touch with one of their technicians who walked me through troubleshooting the problem. I was able to get the heater back up and running within 5 minutes on the phone with the technician.

I mentioned how the pilot went out the first time, and told him why I suspected it went out again this time. He then instructed me on what would cause it, so that I could take steps to prevent it from happening again.

I'm floored by the service they provided over the phone. I am redoing my kitchen next year, and I now know which plumber I will call.

I have had two experiences with O'Neill Plumbing in about the span of a year both related to my condo's toilet. I had had issues with the wax seal on my newer toilet model not really working with my older pipes/building. The second procedure was completed while I was under O'Neill's one year warrenty and, needless to say, I think the fact that they even offer a warranty is a huge testiment in and of itself how dedicated this company is to doing great work and providing excellent customer service. They stand behind their work and won't consider a job finished until it truly is finished, whether that means coming back a day or several months after the initial visit.

I chose this company based on reviews I had read on Yelp and I am so glad I did because I will be turning to them for all my plumbing needs in the future. Consider this a very happy and very loyal customer!

I've never been compelled to write a yelp review before, but the guys at O'neills were so easy to work with, it warrants praise.

I've had a couple different plumbers in my new home recently for various tasks, each time i felt overcharged for unprofessional service. Working with Oneills though, they did everything right. They gave me a quote on the phone, showed up ON TIME (that's important!), were very clean, efficient, and courteous. They also stayed true to their estimate, no surprise charges or nonsense. Christian did the work - recommend asking for him by name.

More than just a knowledgeable and experienced plumber, Shannon is a truly exceptional individual. I have to begin with a big THANK YOU!! A water heater that had been installed by another company went out in our rental unit last night. Not knowing that it had been recently installed, I called Shannon to see if he could repair it. He spent time patiently and methodically talking us through a few different tests to see if we could pin point the problem. Even after we realized that the water heater was under warranty (which he brought to our attention) with another plumbing company, Shannon continued - without hesitation - to help us over the phone. He saved us a lot of hassle, money and second guessing. We are so grateful for his responsiveness and thoughtfulness, and will absolutely be calling him for any future plumbing needs. If you are looking for a plumber in the Alexandria area, trust that you are in good hands with an honest broker and true professional. Thanks again!

Shannon is the BEST! He was at our place wthin an hour of calling. But not only that, he told us that first thing he would do whhen he got there (use a wet vac on the nonflushing toilet) so if he wanted to try tha and let him know if we still needed him,  it would save us the time and money. We did try it, but to no avail, but much appreciated the tip. It turned out the main drain pipe had roots growing through it causing a major block. Shannon used this super snake with a camera to find and suck it right out. He was professional, warm, friendly, and just a a pleasure to have. He let us know the cost of every move he had to make to get our approval before he did anything. We highly recommend!

I called this company because of the good reviews.  I was pleased they were able to get me in on short notice.  We had a clog in the bath tub and a very small leak into the kitchen on the floor below.  They told me that it would be $50 for the visit and $250 to unclog the tub.   I mentioned that we handle unclogging the tub, but I was still interested in having a professional come look and make sure the leak wasn't something more serious.   The plumber showed up on time which was good.   I live in CA  so I was talking with the plumber on the phone and he had me on speaker with my tenant. What ensued next was shocking.

I have never experienced anything like this before.  Probably the rudest repair person that I have ever encountered.   At first I thought his arrogance and attitude was a joke but quickly realized that it was not.   He proceeded to tell me that he believed the leak issue to be related to the tub clog and that he would unclog it for $350 and that if he did that, it would resolve the leaking issue.  I asked him why the $100 difference between what I was told, and he gave me some BS about because it has a mechanical stopper.   He starts snapping that he never should have taken the stopper off, he shouldn't have assumed he had the job to unclog the tub and he was going to leave.  Is that what you want me to do? It was at this point I realized he was being serious.   I was still calm, and told him what I was really interested in was assessing where the leak was coming from and if he thought I was a serious problem.  He takes me off speaker and rudely states, maybe you don't understand or you didn't hear me, I told you its related to the clog.   I tried to explain to him that if it's just a clog issue, me and the tenant need to make a joint decision if they want him to unclog it because hair clogs are tenant responsibilities.   Again he states, Ok then, I'm going to put this back together and leave, because I don't care about your plumbing problem anymore.  I'm done with this.  I was floored and didn't know what to say.    At this point I asked him why he was being so rude.  He went off on a rant about me questioning him on price, me not understanding what's going on, he could have tried to charge me so much more by recommending a bunch more work, etc.  I asked him to leave, he started cussing at me.  I told him I do not want him on my property any longer and talking like that in front of my tenant and her child.  Please leave.  And I hung up.

I called the headquarters number to complain only to find out it was the owner of the company.   I will never do business with them again and I suggest nobody else does either.    This is the first time Yelp has ever let me down.

Due to the great Yelp reviews, I just had O'Neill's plumbing out to replace the hot and cold water valves and box for my washing machine.  They were super easy to get an appointment with, called 30 minutes before arrival, showed up on time, and did a great job replacing everything (and cleaning up after themselves). My only complaint would be the price. They arrived at 10 and left a little after 11, and to give you an idea of cost it was $250 just to come out, $150 in parts, and $500 in labor, for a total of $875.  Guess I should have been a plumber!

There was a sewer back up issue in my rental home in Fairfax City that was built in the early 1960's.  It was a Sunday morning and I called O'Neill plumbing due to the mostly positive reviews on yelp.  They informed me on the phone that to unclog the sewer line it would be a set amount and there would also be a $250 emergency charge added.  I said no problem.  They came out to the house within 3-4 hours.

I live in Texas so it is difficult for me to understand/see what issues are happening at the home in Fairfax.  Shannon called me after scoping the sewer line that connects my house to the sewer.  He found (and I somewhat expected him to find) that this was not a clog and the original orangeburg pipe had become egg shaped and collapsed causing the blockage.  He was thorough in his explanation and made it very understandable to a layperson like myself.

For those who do not know orangeburg pipe was used heavily in the 50's and 60's.  It has an expected life of about 50 years.  It is no longer used in constructions today because of its lack of durability compared to other pipes.  If you have a house that was built in the 50's or 60's then get ready because this WILL happen to you so budget for it.

I have a background in property and casualty insurance so I knew that this is a wear and tear issue and not covered by homeowners insurance.  I did have a home warranty but because it was a sewer line and not a septic system it was not covered their either.  So once again if you have a house built in the 50's or 60's this is something you need to start a budget for.

The pipe was particularly deep because of the way my home is situated on a hill.  This added to the difficulty and the cost of the job.  Shannon explained the price to me, sent me a pdf detailed invoice, and even told me that I could probably find someone else to do this job for a little less money than what he quoted us but he said that they would do it the right way.  If there is one thing that you don't want to be cheap on it is something that you are going to use every day multiple times a day and that is a sewer line.

This is a huge job and having to pay for it out of pocket was tough but Shannon and his crew did an outstanding job.  Shannon called me an updated me twice a day for the two days that it took to do the job.  He even told me that they had a hiccup where they hit and ruptured the home's main water line which was unavoidable given it was 1 foot above the sewer line while digging but that they had anticipated the issue ahead of time.  They fixed it by replacing the main water line to the house with a brand new pipe.  No extra charge, no added fees.

I was provided pictures of the work in progress and they finished and clean everything up as if they were never there (of course my grass will need to be regrown but that is unavoidable when digging a 13 foot deep trench).  Shannon even uploaded a video to youtube showing the view of the camera snake going the whole way through the new pipe showing the work is complete.  Pretty sweet stuff.

It took them two days to complete this job.  They did a fantastic job.  The communication was excellent from Shannon and Megan. They were prompt, courteous, professional and knowledgeable.  This is a prime example of a small business done right.  I would recommend them to everyone I know ESPECIALLY for a sewer line replacement.

HIGH QUALITY work for a FAIR PRICE.

We had a list of annoying projects (leaking faucet, running toilet, missing parts to this, that, and the other) and called O'Neill Plumbing after seeing the YELP reviews and talking with a friend who had also used their services.  Shannon and his new assistant were GREAT.  They were fast, smart, cleaned up as they went, and made certain that all was well before they left for the day.  They even took the time to answer our star-struck young sons' many questions and were generous with their time.

We loved that they kept to their estimate for the work we had detailed in advance and let us know in advance what additional charges would have to be added to address problems we raised for the first time when they were at our home (had to go get special parts).

Best yet, everything works perfectly (we're a week out now from when they did the repairs) and all of the annoyances are gone.   I strongly recommend them.

I really cannot rate O'Neill Plumbing highly enough.  Not only is the service they provide of an exceptionally high quality--years of experience have given Shannon tremendous insight about intractable problems, in addition to quickness on the job (he finishes things in an hour that it would take 3 people twice as long to do), but I can also say definitively that Shannon is one of the most decent, good-hearted people I have ever met.

Shannon responded to yet another emergency call from me when my toilet stopped flushing on a Thursday evening. He came right over. It ended up being an incredibly labor intensive job (far more than one person should have to do), but he did it with humor, speed, and diligence. Not only did he fix something I'm sure others would have shirked (and charged me a lot more for), but he did it with a smile despite the numerous trips back and forth to his truck to get heavy equipment and supplies (in the rain!). I feel incredibly lucky to have had Shannon and his team at the other end of the phone when I've had things go wrong with plumbing. In my opinion, Shannon is the most dependable, honest, dedicated, and talented plumber in the DC area. I give him the highest recommendation without reservation, and I wish for everyone to have such an excellent plumber to help them when things go wrong.

I chose O'Neill Plumbing based on all the positive reviews on Yelp, and was not at all disappointed.  My first contact with the company was when I called and spoke with Megan, the receptionist, who was courteous and helpful.  After I told her our problem (shower wouldn't dispense cold water) she suggested I email her a picture.  Did that and she got right back to me after having consulted with a supplier, and said they'd be able to fix it but would have to order parts.  So that saved time and a trip out to the house for a look-see.

Shannon came out as scheduled (called ahead and was even a bit early).  He ran into a problem with our interior water shut-off valve so had to return at a later date after we got Fairfax Water to locate the outside valve.  By that time I had a few other items I wanted him to look at.  Shannon showed me how to take care of the simple fixes and got the major work done in a timely manner.  He and his co-worker were friendly and cleaned up after they were done - even wore those booties on their shoes so they wouldn't dirty my floors.  He installed a new shower head on a different shower and didn't charge me because it was an extra he had on hand!

Will call O'Neill for any future plumbing problems.  Highly recommend them!

Talk about top notch plumbers. Shannon is a really good dude. I needed him to dewinterize a home and then winterize it. I called him at 6am to schedule an emergency same day visit and he fit me in to what was probably an already busy day. Shannon called me at 12pm to tell me that he had some time extra time, so he could fit me in earlier than our scheduled time. He was waiting for me, early, when I got to the house. First, he did the work and explained what he was doing and then gave me an estimate before doing any work. Took about an hour to do the work and then he checked a few other small things in the home for me.
I needed him to come back to winterize the home about 3 hours later which he agreed to do.

I was late to our return meeting, but Shannon took it in stride and still met me as agreed and did the job which took another hour. Yeah, he wasn't fully happy about me being late and having to do a job later than planned, but we worked it out and Shannon did a great job. I fully recommend O'Neill plumbing. Shannon is a good, honest guy who does great work. Highly recommended.

Courteous.  Professional.  Punctual. Knowledgeable. Efficient. High Quality.  Clean.  Excellent communication (beforehand with courtesy calls about ETA, during with respect to scope of work, and after regarding work completed and status of the system).

When I search for a professional to provide a service, I look for someone who enjoys what they do.  If they enjoy it, they take pride in it, and they do it right.  I think Shannon enjoys what he does.

Also went above and beyond to replace a trap that turned out to be bad, at no extra cost.

I'll be using O'Neill exclusively moving forward.

Very pleased with the work and the service provided by Shannon and O'Neill Plumbing. In my experience with him, Shannon will talk with you person-to-person to try to resolve an issue. He gave me honest recommendations, but let me decide what was best for my home.
Besides that, the scheduling was prompt and easy. Every encounter with him, the office and his workers was courteous, and the price he quoted was well below the others.
I recommend him to family and friends and will definitely go back to him for future work.

I highly recommend O'Neill Plumbing. They recently took care of a stopped bathroom sink and were professional, honest, on-time, and friendly through the whole process.

I own a townhome built and 1939 so I was concerned about the age of the pipes and the possibibity for damage resulting in a larger problem. Initally they were unable to snake the pipe beyond my bathroom wall and we scheduled a second appointment for an exploratory look (which basically means they would open up the wall to take a look at the pipes and what were dealing with). Instead - they called me before the 2nd appointment and suggested that another more experienced guy (Shannon) come out and try to snake the pipe himself. He was successful and it saved me a lot of money.

I have found a plumber for all of my future needs.

O'Neill Plumbing is what you hope to find when you find yourself in need of a plumber.  They're responsive, friendly, professional and know their stuff.

I live in Southern MD and our church was looking for a plumber to handle a number of repairs to a religious convent in NE DC.  Yelp was the obvious first step and, based on the reviews, O'Neill Plumbing was who we wanted to do the work.

I can say that Shannon lived up to the hype and then some.  He was quick to get onsite to review what needed repaired and to provide and estimate and then quick to schedule once we were ready to move forward.  He knocked out a lot of work in less than a day and even took care of some additional items as a courtesy for the sisters.

I would hire Shannon again in a heartbeat and highly recommend him to anyone in need of plumbing service.

I'm celebrating 6 years of being a homeowner and there have been many lessons learned in that time.  The most important lesson was that I needed  a GREAT PLUMBER.  O'Neill Plumbing is that GREAT PLUMBER. I knew the second I had water spraying behind the walls from a broken pressure valve in the middle of the night and Shannon O'Neill himself showed up, helped minimize the damage, fixed the valve and even more important, he was pleasant, kind, and professional in the middle of the night.  I called several plumbers that night and most didn't answer the phone or were just unfriendly.  When water is spraying in between your walls, friendly, kind, affordable and timely (at 3 a.m.) is important.  O'Neill provides an excellent return on the investment.  High quality, solid work, honest answers, and exceptional trouble-shooting.

Since that first call, O'Neill plumbing has handled all my plumbing needs (and those of most of my friends too).  We replaced 4 bathrooms worth of toilets and faucets and new valves and emergency water cut-offs, and countless other things.  Had a bad faucet from the manufacturer?  O'Neill was back with a new one that afternoon and checked back with me to make sure that the new one wasn't dripping any longer.  Hated my shower head?  Shannon had a great recommendation and installed it.  No drips!

I can't always be home to have work done, and having Shannon and his team do work in my absence is something I've been comfortable with from the start.  Shannon and the gentlemen who work for him are professionals who listen, pay attention and treat your home like it is their own.  There's never any mess, never anything left to clean up, and always an honest answer to questions.  Shannon will not sugar-coat a problem.  He will tell you the truth and work with you to find the solution.

There are too many crappy companies involved in the home repair and renovation business, don't even bother looking for other plumbers. Just call O'Neill.  You will be glad you did.

Called O'Neill back in May since our ceiling started leaking and we assumed it was the plumbing with the tub.  Was not expecting anyone to come out that night (it was fairly late) but he answered and was able to fix it that night.  He and his team were incredibly respectful of the fact that we had children asleep and they kept the dust to a minimum.
Fast forward to this past weekend when we thought we might have to replace our hot water heater.  We called Shannon and he came out and fixed the problem that had caused the leak into the unit below.  He then offered to replace our hot water heater with far better terms than any other place I have dealt with in the past.
He and his team came today and were neat and efficient about the work.  I cannot say enough good things about him and will have him on call for future plumbing needs.

I very rarely write reviews, but my experience with O'Neill was extraordinary and well deserves to be written about.  We could not have asked for better, faster, more skilled, or a more professional experience.  Within an hour of my call Shannon was there to the rescue, replacing our disposal, and explaining all the details along the way.  I had no idea calling the plumber could be such a good experience, but with this company, I stand corrected.  I will go back to O'Neill and highly recommend them to all of my friends.

I called O'Neill on 01/10/2014 when my pipes outside burst due to a lack of winterization. Here's my experience - consider this a cautionary tale.  If you are considering O'neill, I recommend that you do not use this business.
1. Contacted company because the pipe outside burst
2. Talked to Shannon - one of the owners who quoted me a $250 charge for just coming out. Because I needed the pipes fixed I accepted the charge.  Shannon told me that he could be out in 4 hours due to how busy they were. (1st red light)
3.  After my credit card was charged the $250, I received a phone call 2 mins later saying that I had gotten their attention and now they could be out there immediately. (2nd red light)
4.  Shannon showed up and explained that it would cost $500 dollars to fix the pipe and I provided authorization to proceed.  After 6 minutes the work was done, and I raised a question about the cost given that it seemed a little excessive.  It was at this time that Shannon began screaming and yelling at me and threatened to cut the pipe out since it was his property.  Perhaps they should change their name to Hothead Plumbing. (3rd red light)
5.  Office contacted me for payment.  I explained the situation to the office manager, however what can she do - i mean she works for Shannon.  I told her that I wanted to speak with Shannon prior to making payment. (4th red light)
6. Tonight, I just received an email from O'neill with a paid receipt for my credit card - i guess O'neill decided to charge me without my authorization.

It really isn't about the money - it's about customer service.  Never did I say I would not pay, I simply wanted to understand how Shannon can sleep at night charging $750 for six minutes worth of work.

I'm in the wrong line of business.  I'm going to sign up for plumbing classes.

Women and men beware! You could be the next victim of price gouging and horrendous customer service.

Here are the details of the service provided.  You make your own choice on whether you think this is worth $750.00.

I chose this company to install a new hot water heater based on the glowing reviews.  I'm glad I did because the reviews are accurate.  Ishmael and his helper showed up a few minutes early, covered the floor with protective tarps, and went to work  They were done in two hours, cleaned up and left the place in great shape.  The new hot water heater was priced well and came with a six year warranty.  No fifth star because the company has an antiquated policy of charging 3 percent for a credit card payment.

When a pipe burst in my wall, O'Neill was the first to respond to my emergency plumbing request. He arrived, turned off the water supply and laid out my repair options. As we were discussing payment, he became angry with how I responded to one of his questions regarding a check payment. He then proceeded to start yelling and cursing about how we were ungrateful, rude, and selfish people. He then stormed out of the house and was gone in his truck for a few minutes. When he returned he asked if there were any questions regarding his customer service. We told him that his language and demeanor were unprofessional and he began yelling again about not being able to see his family and us being ungrateful customers ( we paid him $250 to make the house call in the first place).
Needless to say, I will NEVER use this company again. He was completely unprofessional, unable to control his emotions, and unable to accept responsibilty for his poor behavior. Lastly, the quote he gave us for fixing the pipe was almost $1,500. Turns out, it only cost $350 to have the entire repair job completed...terrible prices and terrible customer service equals negative Yelp review.

I have to echo everything that's been said by the other 5-star reviews here. Shannon goes out of his way to deliver exceptional customer service -- he's always available, very prompt, reasonably priced and does great work.

Woke up on Monday morning to just enough warm water for  a two minute shower. Called my go to plumber but they were booked until Wednesday. Started looking for another option and found a few with 4.5-5 stars. Dialed the first and could not get an estimate or confirmation that it would be completed today. Dialed the second to O'Neill and had an estimate and time booked within 20 minutes, even had Shannon call me directly to say when he would be out and that he was doing the job. Got my notice call a little early and the new hot water heater with extras all included in the price was installed by 5:00. Shannon took the time to explain everything to me, showing me the work performed including the safety measures they installed. Overall a first class experience from a first class guy who cares about quality work and customer service. Thank you O'Neill Plumbing!

Based on the other reviews, it appears we had an atypical experience. Nevertheless, we'd like to share it, as it was unpleasant and ultimately costly.

We called an O'Neill employee, Mike, and scheduled him to come out and look at our non-functioning dishwasher.  He and Shannon responded promptly, diagnosed the problem, and Mike said that he would have the part that week.  He also stated that he would secure the dishwasher to the floor.

The next 3-4 weeks were spent trying to get in touch with Mike and/or O'Neill plumbing to figure out when they would come to install the part. Toward the end of that period, Shannon said that Mike was no longer with the company and we began dealing with Shannon exclusively.  Finally we got word that the part was in from Shannon's office assistant, and my husband scheduled a time with her.  But Shannon was a no show on the scheduled date, and when my husband called in to see what had happened, the office assistant said that the part had not yet come in, but would be there quite soon.  Fast forward a few days - the part came in and Shannon came out that weekend when we were out of town.  He replaced the part, but did not secure the dishwasher, saying that he was unable to do so.  If we had known that it wasn't possible for them to perform this (Mike told us he could attach it to the floor), we wouldn't have hired them in the first place.  Rather than bill us, our tenants had to pay on the spot - a position would would have preferred not to put them in. A simple call to us for our credit card info would have been appreciated.

Anyway, the dishwasher was non-functional again a few days later.  At that point we were $455 out - $250 for the first visit, 205 for the second, and we still had a non-functioning, non-stabilized dishwasher.  We then called the company we usually use (Magnolia) but hadn't this time because we had wanted to find a less expensive firm, and they installed a new dishwasher for us and secured it to the adjacent cabinets.  Job done, but if I had to do it agin, I just would have gone with expensive but reliable Magnolia and not dealt with O'Neill.

To be fair to O'Neill though, we didn't contact them after the dishwasher was still not functioning.  At that point, with the weeks of waiting and unreturned calls form Mike, the scheduling and then no show, the repair that didn't fix it, and the inability for them to stabilize it, we preferred to chalk up the 450 we spent to a loss, rather than continue dealing with them.

Despite having quite a catastrophic incident, our water main broke from the house to the street (we were responsible for having it fixed not the water company), O'Neill Plumbing was fantastic to work with.  We called they were apologetic that we were going through this and would get someone out right away.  Sure enough, within the hour Shannon was there.  He was able to give us a quote quickly and explain the process. He was very professional and considerate.  The other plumbers we called that said they would do this type of work - never even showed up!  Their loss because it was not a cheap job.
When they came to do the work they showed right on time and got right to work.  They were careful to put plastic on walkways and driveways so there was little mess.  They laid drop cloth throughout the house where they would have to walk.  No mess in the house.  They had to dig a ditch through the whole front yard and even had to remove bushes - which they replaced very precisely.  The job took all day but for us (despite the money!) was painless.  Almost as though they'd never dug an eight foot deep ditch across the whole yard. The price was in line with what our research showed and we are very pleased.  I hope you don't have to go through this but if you do or need any plumbing done, I highly recommend O'Neill Plumbing and will do so to all our friends and family.  We will also never use another plumber!  It is nice to have someone we can count on in the future.  We also feel good about using smaller family owned businesses.

Had a stubbornly stuck drain.  Contacted two other plumbing companies that made appointments with me but then they didn't show up or couldn't be on time.  Called O'Neils and from the moment he showed up (early) to my home until the moment he and his crew rolled up the protective tarps they thoughtfully placed from the front door to the problem area he and the company were considerate competent and their attitudes were great!  Will definitely recommend the crew and the company and if ever I need a plumbing company again they will be the only company working in my home.

Shannon just walked out of the door and I knew I had to write this review before I forgot.  As a new homeowner, this was my first experience with a plumber, so I don't have anyone to compare him to, but I can't imagine having working with a better person than Shannon.

I get home from the gym at 9pm only to find my husband in the basement being soaked by a burst pipe.  He had already called 8 plumbers who either wanted us to sign up for a club and/or wouldn't actually put a real person on the phone.  I google Emergency Plumbing and our Zip Code and immediately find the 4.5 star Yelp review for O'Neill.  Sweet!  I was further flabbergasted when Shannon picked up on the 3rd ring.  Never having had a pipe burst before, I was...errr...a little intense on the phone.  Shannon handled me in stride and promised to arrive in 30 minutes.  I accidentally called him back three minutes after our initial conversation (trying to cancel another plumber who was taking too long).  Instead of being irritated that I wouldn't leave him alone, he answers the phone, Hi Jessica...are you okay?  As I mentioned, I was in a pretty panicked state, but somehow, Shannon calmed me down immediately.

As soon as he walked in the door (20 minutes after I initially called) I barraged him with questions, which he fielded with humor, detail and patience.  He sawed our wall down and fixed our pipe within 45 minutes, answering general plumbing questions the whole time, including giving detailed instructions on how we could handle the clean up ourselves.  Even I would have been annoyed with me!  =)

It's true, people generally only take the time to complain, but somehow, Shannon has managed to accrue high ratings...and for a reason:  HE IS AMAZING!  And if you're wondering (are you shocked that I asked?!), the tattoos on his face have nothing to do with murder.

Shannon and O'Neill Plumbing are a tremendous company that is full of integrity.  When we had an issue with the plumbing associated with our washing machine, O'Neill came out promptly and dealt with the problem efficiently and at a reasonable cost.  When I had another issue with our kitchen sink, Shannon walked me through the issue over the phone and I was able to self-diagnose and fix it.  Lesser plumbers would have come out and charged me for something I was able to do myself.  In an industry where honesty isn't always the norm, I believe O'Neill Plumbing makes honesty it's policy.  I'm thrilled to have found my go-to plumber in northern Virginia!

Found O'Neill Plumbing here on Yelp.  I had a leaky pipe and made an appointment.  They gave me an hour window - unlike other places that will ever so grudgingly give you like a 6 hour window.  Sure enough, Shannon called a 1/2 hour before arrival (within the window), was professional and got right down to fixing the problem.  It took him less than an hour, no more leak.  Good work, good price.  I would highly recommend using them.

I'm giving Shannon and O'Neill a five star review because of his willingness and  attitude to help out a poor girl who totally did not know what she was doing at the time. Thankfully, with some coaching over the phone, Shannon was able to guide me through my small plumbing problem. I was able to fix the problem myself, since he was not available till late and it was emergency, but Shannon offered to come at a later time and even told me that he would charge an exorbitant amount for the emergency. Shannon was  all around very helpful and had a great attitude. Will definitely contact again in the future!

I have been hesitant to write this review simply because I have been so afraid of him. I saw rave reviews on Yelp and decided to have him fix some plumbing issues. He came with two assistants and done a pretty good job resolving issues. All of sudden, he got upset with one of his assistant and completely flipped, ranting and raving. When I tried to calm him down, he turned on me and start to act crazy.  He was completely out of control. He had his truck parked in the middle of street, blocking traffic for at least 15 minutes screaming, hollering and cursing profanity.
I was embarrassed to my neighbors who may suspect that I have done something to provoke this man.
All I could do was to hand the check to his assistant and locked the door behind me.
He does pretty good job as a plumber but I am afraid that he is going to hurt someone one of these days.
Before any of you write your reviews, you should think carefully. You wound't feel so good if he hurts someone and find out about it on the news.

I highly recommend Shannon and O'Neill Plumbing.  I had a cracked and leaking drain pipe, and I had to leave town.  Megan, who answered the phone, was very nice, and suggested I email her photos so they could better estimate the cost.  Within minutes of sending the email, Shannon called me right back and walked me through what he thought the cost might be, and what might make it go higher depending on what they found.  He explained everything they would need to do and was very friendly.  We set up an appt. for Sunday afternoon, and I returned home early.  He came right on time, was vey friendly and kind to my kids, did a fantastic job, and ended up charging me even less than he had quoted when it turned out to be a simpler job because nothing was cracked below the surface of the floor.  I will definitely be calling him again for any future plumbing needs!

After reading all of these glowing reviews I was so excited to have FINALLY found a plumber I believed I could trust with my home and my business.  I did my due diligence and carefully reviewed O'Neill, visited their website and cross checked their reputation with other online sources.  Imagine my EXTREME disappointment when I called to make my appointment and was told they NO LONGER SERVE MARYLAND even though it is clearly listed on their website!  I informed Megan (the receptionist) that the website clearly says they serve MD, she was just like sorry.  WOW.  This is the response from a Yelp All Star????  I didn't mask my disappointment and informed her that I would be posting on Yelp.  Nada.  She didn't even ask where in MD I was to see if an exception could be made.  Let me be clear in saying that I don't live in remote MD either.  I'm in Largo which is about 30 min. from their establishment but I guess that's too far.  If you live in MD -- KEEP LOOKING.  Your search isn't over as we Marylanders are unable to benefit from Shannon's expertise.

There is a good reason this company has so many 5 star reviews.  These guys are everything you hope for when you have to make a call to a service industry company.  O'Neill plumbing is reliable, fairly priced, informative and honest.  I called this company because of their yelp reviews last week when I had water pouring out of my downstairs AC vent after taking a bath and releasing the drain in the upstairs bathroom.  Shannon and his crew called before coming and actually were slightly ahead of schedule.  They placed drop clothes throughout my house and quickly went about diagnosing the problem.  Shannon showed me what was causing the leak and presented me with a very reasonable estimate to fix the problem.  This was the best experience I have ever had with a plumbing company and will definitely be calling O'Neill next time I have any plumbing issues.

ISSUE
Over the weekend I discovered a puddle in my basement, and traced it to the hot water heater.  After researching the problem and observing the leak for a day, I felt confident that the heater had rusted out and needed to be replaced.

FACTS
I called the office for O'Neill Plumbing at 11am Monday morning.  Shannon promptly returned my call within 15 minutes.  I explained the problem, and Shannon asked very clear and precise questions to converge on the same determination I had--I needed a replacement.  Moreover, once I showed that I had researched the problem, he was willing to explain the situation some more and precisely what would be done, including promises to deliver the new heater, drain and remove the old one, install the new heater, cleanup and dispose of the old heater.

Shannon immediately researched the pricing for replacement water heaters at different price points.  In addition to offering a grand total over the phone, Shannon clearly indicated that the total included parts, labor, a 5-year warranty on workmanship and the cost of incidental parts, like a water supply shutoff valve and drip pan.  Overall, communication with Shannon was very clear and courteous.

Having zero personal experience with plumbers in the area, only silence from friends and a handful of opinions from Yelp, I took a chance with O'Neill Plumbing.  After accepting Shannon's offer, he scheduled a repair the same day between 1 and 3pm.  He arrived at 1:30, cordially introduced himself, removed his shoes, prepared the working area and quickly began work.  The work went smoothly, quietly and quickly despite an unexpected problem when the old heater's drain valve blew and water gushed out.  He arrested the spilling water without any collateral damage to items in my basement, fulfilled all his promises, demonstrated his work product to me and explained the use of the new heater and its warranty.  Payment by credit card was easy.  A nice bonus was the 10% discount he was offering for Yelp customers.  Only time will tell if the work exemplifies lasting workmanship, but my initial impression is that it is of high quality.

RECOMMENDATION
Given the overall high-degree of courteousness, knowledge, clarity, promptness, ability, and quality exemplified by Shannon and his team, I'd recommend O'Neill Plumbing to friends and family.

EXPLANATION OF RATING
As this is my first experience with a major plumbing project, and O'Neill Plumbing is the first plumber I worked with, my star rating is a very rough estimate of plumbers in the area.  However, the service provided struck me as so objectively good in terms of courteousness, knowledge, clarity, promptness, ability and quality, that I can hardly imagine anyone better.

I waited a few months to write this review, but after being ignored and hung up on... I decided it was time.  I found ONeill through Yelp and I want others to know my experience.
O'Neill plumbing came to my condo to replace a hot water heater.  Shannon left his best plumber to finish the job.  Well his best plumber installed it incorrectly, resulting in water damage to my downstairs neighbor's condo AND a gas leak into our condo.  Shannon came later that evening and corrected the installation.
During this time, he agreed to pay for the damage to my neighbor's place (under $500)... he even provided his insurance information.  I sent him the invoices and a letter requesting payment.  This was ignored.  I called Megan at the office multiple times and she always had an excuse (new baby, trucks broken into, etc).  I finally called Shannon directly and he said that he didn't believe that he should pay and then hung up on me.
I was all prepared to write a positive review, because mistakes happen, Shannon corrected the problem that day and was agreed to reimburse us.... however because we have not received payment and I was mistreated by Shannon, I feel that this review is necessary.

I got a sales pitch for purchasing a faucet from O'Neill rather than using my store-bought faucet, with something about O'Neill not warranting if I had problems with leaking if we used the store-bought one.  When I asked clarification, he became agitated and said that  if I didn't want him to do the work, he would leave.   We could not come to any understanding, after leaving my house, he or one of his assistants tore up the paperwork and threw it on the ground.  I will say that O'Neill called afterwards and did not charge us anything for the visit.

I called to get an estimate and Shannon was very rude to me and practically hung up the phone on me.  He wouldn't even give me an estimate over the phone and wouldn't even let me ask him any questions.  As a potential customer, I felt like I was bothering him.  I found out later, that he was the only person in the office but he didn't tell me that until he blew up at me when I was trying to explain my problem and ask him some questions.  I told him I was sorry and I didn't realize he was in the office by himself.  If I knew, I would have just got off the phone and tried to talk to him when he was able to talk and answer some questions.  I asked him if I could just ask him one last question and when I asked him how much he charged on an hourly basis, he said if i charged $500, would you hire me to do the job?.  After that he said, the same thing previous reviewer have written, he respectfully declined to perform any work I was requesting.

I thought I would try to get as much information so I wouldn't get ripped off and compare but I guess asking questions are not allowed.  I understand he was the only one in the office but he doesn't have to treat people so rudely.  I would not recommend this company to anyone since he doesn't seem to need the business especially if he can treat potential customers so rudely.  Maybe he needs to hire more people to help him out if he can't handle working in the office by himself.  I don't think customers should have to deal with such rudeness when they didn't do anything to deserve being treated like that.  If customers can't ask questions, then what are they suppose to do?

At 1045, 9 June 13, While driving on route 1 in Woodbridge, their driver failed to yield the right of way causing me to have to brake hard and almost struck my vehicle.  The driver then had the gall to roll down his window and started yelling at me and threatening me with physical violence.  If this is how they act when they drive, I'd be terrified to criticize their work while they were working in my home.

Like others, I found Shannon based on the feedback here.  I too would give more than five stars, if I could. He came right away (on a Sunday afternoon). He gave us great advice about selecting a new water heater and offered to pick it up for us (although that was not necessary). He installed it quickly and professionally for a fair price. He exudes honesty and good character. His is overall the best professional service provider in any and all categories I have encountered in my six years in Alexandria.

The thought of giving a plumbing company 5 stars would make me spit out my bourbon in laughter.........A WEEK AGO!  To make a long story short we bought an old house, had some water issues, thought Oh Sh#t, looked on yelp, chose O'Neill (thanks Yelp), prayed to the sewer Gods it was minor, found out it wasn't, got it fixed.  Usually this would lead me to cry into said bourbon but Shannon and his crew were amazing.  From the moment he stepped inside he made sure I knew why and what was going on.  I felt like a little plumber apprentice at times.  He even threw in some pretty solid jokes.  So anyway if you have a plugged crapper, hot water heater that is going to turn into a missile, or a broken sewer line to the main (Ugggg) I suggest chatting with Shannon.

My garbage disposal wasn't working and i was fully expecting a costly visit to have it fixed.  Before even scheduling the appointment, Shannon got on the phone and asked me a few quetions about the problem.  He was able to walk me through how a disposal works and I was able to locate the issue (a nail that had gotten in there), dislodge it safely, and get the disposal back up and running.  You don't get service like this anymore, and I will be recommending O'Neill and Shannon to every person I know!

I called O'Neill on the basis of the recommendations on Yelp after I found some water in my basement that I suspected had come from a broken pipe.  They were responsive and came within 12 hours.  But they were way too eager to start a costly project.  The plumber who arrived tried to convince me that the first step was to guess where the leak was and start drilling out the concrete floor--to the tune of $5000.  I was skeptical of this approach, and it's a good thing, because there was no broken drain pipe.  The water was coming in from outside the house.  A more careful approach would have pinpointed the cause before insisting that drilling was the only option.  Thus, because of my experience, I would not recommend O'Neill Plumbing to anybody.

I read most reviews and felt comfortable calling so I gave them a call. Right away, I felt I made a mistake. When I called to schedule a service and they told me to try to send a picture and based upon the picture they will send me a price quote. Still, I asked them when they might be able to come out for a service, the lady on the phone told me there's $250 dollar fee for emergency service. First of all, I never told them they have to come out today, instead of letting me know first what their availability and going from there she decided to quote me $250 fee right off the bat, as if they didn't want my business.  What a first impression, I won't be calling this company.

I have been using O'Neill Plumbing for all my plumbing repairs/improvements for the last 1.5 years. They always do a great job, are able to come quickly (even on Saturdays and Sundays), and do a thorough job. Shannon is very thorough and genuinely engaged in finding the cause of problems, and putting a long-term, robust solution in place. Their prices are fair and come with a warranty. Shannon is committed to doing a great job and it shows. Most recently, I used O'Neill to troubleshoot a growing water stain on the wall in the master bathroom. He took the time to investigate and diagnose the source of the leak (the toilet) and then removed and essentially rebuilt the toilet, replacing most of the parts other than the tank/bowl. I would definitely use O'Neill again for my home and highly recommend them! I don't know of another plumber who is as responsive, effective and thorough.

Great first phone call wanted to get to the problem and fix my issue for est. 750.  Insisted he could do it the next day (Saturday) and that worked for me.  Got a phone call in the morning stating he couldn't come till later because a job had took a little longer which was fine.  Called me later and started complaining and becoming rude, about this is not how things usually work, about why is the tenant opening the door.  I was getting work done on my home as a Landlord as I live in California.  When he arrived he went straight to work and fixed the leak problem, but as my uncle arrived he has what Shannon was doing?  Basically sealing the leak the same way my uncle had did, but with a different material.  (An argument erupted between him and my uncle), my uncle left and would not sign off on the repair.  Then Shannon talked to me pretty intense and rude about if I want it or not and threatened to remove the seal.  I said hey as long as the problem is fixed ill pay for it.  He gave me a 20% discount more than which was real nice if I paid him right away so I did.

2 days later, leak appeared again.  Called Shannon he said he was sick.  Then called back 5 days later and rescheduled an appointment because there work is guaranteed.  (Good service on calling about appointments, and arrival time)  Called and started giving me attitude about the person opening the door when I already told him it would be the person that is home of whom I already told will open the door.  Got to the job site on time, told me the only way the problem could be fixed is if I remove the whole bath tub.

I wonder why he didn't tell me this during the initial fix, or was it a temporary fix to take my 600 bucks.  Either way I will probably not do work with Oneil Plumbing.  good customer service as in notifications, will come back to site if not fixed, but his personality had me really stressed out while working with him.

I will upgrade more stars as I see more current reviews about his personality being friendly.

Thanks

I called on Monday and set up an appointment for Wednesday. I received a quote over the phone for what I told the receptionist the problem might be understanding that if the problem was worse the price would obviously be higher. Shannon called about 45 minutes ahead to make sure that the agreed time still worked or he could even come a little earlier if I was available which was nice.  He was very friendly and professional while doing the job. He talked me through the issues and taught me a bit about how the plumbing works, which was nice to learn as a homeowner and didn't mind me hovering over the job.  He also talked to my home warranty company which was especially nice because I know that can be a headache. Toilet fixed and a 1 year warranty. Great service, I have found my plumber.

Shannon and his team came to help fix a problem I had with a new range stove that was sticking too far out from my kitchen wall. Basically, a gas pipe was sticking up straight from the floor and blocking the range from going any further back. I called O'Neill Plumbing on a Sunday and he was able to come out with his team on Tuesday morning. In every conversation I've had with him, he was nothing but courteous, quick and efficient. He and his team showed up on time (early, in fact!) and got right to work. Though I was had to get back into DC for work, he called me throughout to let me know what was going on. When the job was finished, the house was as clean as when they first got there. I would wholeheartedly recommend him to anybody and will happily use his services again, should I need them.

I had scheduled an appointment to have O'Neill plumbing come out to fix our toilet after all of the rave reviews on Yelp. My husband took off work for their arrival but they just never showed up. I tried calling several times to see if there had been an emergency requiring a rescheduling but no one picked up the line. It's now been over a week and no one from O'Neill plumbing has even bothered to return my messages. Needless to say, I'm really angry at this unprofessionalism and complete disregard for our time.

When our water heater died the day before we were scheduled to take a week long trip, my husband and I frantically started calling plumbers throughout the DC area. As this was the first time we have ever had to replace a water heater, we had very little knowledge on the process, the pricing, the labor involved etc. After calling about 4 different potential service providers, we were beginning to feel a growing pit of anxiety about who we would be inviting into our home, and the quality of work we would get for a major utility project that we weren't prepared to take on. When we called O'Neill Plumbing, the very friendly Meghan initially recommended that we call the GE warranty phone number on our water heater tank because it was very possible that our water heater was still under warranty based on the serial number we gave her. I was elated to hear this and reassured by the professional and considerate manner with which Meghan handled our concerns. When we discovered that the water heater was no longer under warranty, Meghan quickly provided us with a written estimate on the services involved with replacing our water heater. Shannon (the company owner) also took the time to speak with us on the phone regarding our needs and ultimately gave us a price that worked with our budget. When Shannon and his team arrived to do the work, they were on time, courteous, professional and quick! They placed tarps throughout our home to protect the floors and explained everything that needed doing in a clear and understandable way. Our house is over 100 years old and the previous water heater situation was creative to say the least. Shannon and his team installed a new water heater, updated the copper piping, added an expansion tank, an emergency drip pan and ultimately brought everything up to code. The closet looks a million times better! Additionally they explained to us what we could do to make the water heater last longer and maintain it in top working order. This was an absolutely positive experience, the price was fair, but I have to say, you really can't put a price on an honest contractor who takes care of your home, does a professional job, and takes the time to make sure you understand the process. Shannon is more than a contractor he is a business man who cares about his customers and wants to build a lasting relationship with his clientele. At the end of the day, O'Neill Plumbing did a fantastic job and stuck to the price quoted. There were no surprises and we are now looking for the next opportunity to hire Shannon's company - I'm sure our laundry closet could use some updating!

A true angel of the season.  My plumber did not show up on Saturday and I was in a bind and I had to get work done for a VA inspection that was to take place on Monday morning.  Met Shannon at Lowes and told him my problem and dilema.  He dropped everything and completed the work with the most positive can do attitude with great technical ability.  He was priceless and I would give him 10 stars if I could.   I would highly recommend him.  You will not be disappointed.

O'Neill Plumbing earns top marks from my family when it comes to customer service.  From the woman who answers the phone to the technician who rebuilt our hot water heater to Shannon (who I think must be the owner?), everyone was extremely nice, prompt, and professional.  I've never written a Yelp review before, but O'Neill was so good, I felt it was only right to let others know about them.

Called This plumber based on Yelp reviews and was not disappointed. Shannon asked me to text a photo of the problem for an accurate bid and it worked. He kept me posted on arrival time, took time to explain my options and did a great job. Pleasant and reasonable- even came on a Saturday without charging weekend or emergency rate since he was in area for another job. I would highly recommend O'Neill Plumbing and use him again.

Meant to write about my experience from earlier this summer.  I had pretty significant damage in my basement due to a damaged water heater which had leaked gallons and gallons of water, two days before my sister's wedding (in which I had tons of family staying in my home), Shannon was completely flexible with my urgent schedule, while providing me a better estimate than all other local competitors in Northern Virginia.  He also provided great detail for all of the work required (which I was able to verify was necessary) and helped have my basement looking like new within a few hours.  Overall, would highly recommend him and his team.

We found O'Neil Plumbing on Yelp many months back, and based on the positive response we had him come out and work on our plumbing issue.  Shannon (the proprietor) and his trusty assistant Fred did a terrific job and gave us a fair price on the work; fair prices are hard to come by in this neck of the woods.  Recently, like another Yelper, Andrew S., I had a garbage disposal problem and instead of doing a service call where he could have charged for labor, Shannon talked me through the solution over the phone...needless to say, I'm a customer for life!

I selected O'Neill Plumbing after a search on Yelp and the large number of positive responses.  I had a leaky hose to the sink in my bathroom but didn't have the correct tools to fix the issue on my own.  Megan set up the appointment over the phone and I was impressed that there was a one hour arrival window instead of a larger one.  Shannon called in advance and let me know when I could expect him to arrive.  Once on-site, he outlined what the issue was with the hose and how it could be fixed.  I was impressed with his communication and clear explanation of what was wrong.  He also made to sure to note that I should call back if any other questions came up later regarding the work that was done.  Overall, a very positive experience.  I will definitely contact O'Neill Plumbing again when I am in need of plumbing services.

What can I say, Shannon took the stress out a plumbing emergency! I woke up to a broken toilet...of courser on Sunday morning.  The phone staff was excellent and helpful, and gave me an estimate of the work as well as get this a ONE hour window when someone would arrive.  And Shannon came when expected!  Fixed the problems in 17 minutes flate ( he egged me on to time him).  We talked about some non-emergncy work for the future, and Shannon even stayed on to do that work at the same time--saving me from taking time off work later.  A great experience for what felt pretty stressful before the problem was fixed!

Great service from these guys. Called them at 6:45 a.m. (Sorry about that, Shannon!) when the bathroom faucet broke and sprayed water everywhere.  They determined that it was a a broken faucet and by set up an appointment to replace it later that morning.  They called me t30 minutes before to confirm the appointment and even showed up 5 minutes early with all the replacement hardware we needed.  Christian and his colleague fixed everything very professionally, even though they had to dismantle the vanity to install the new faucet.  Now, one hour later, the bathroom looks spotless - you could never tell that two guys had to dismantle an entire vanity and install new hardware in there!  Fast, on-time, professional, courteous service.  What could be better?

I was referred to Shannon over labor day weekend as our main sewer line backed up. Shannon was able to come over within 30 minutes as he was in the area. He snaked the line twice to make sure it was clear. Now we can do dishes and take showers and don't have to use the outside water closet.

After reading all the reviews on Yelp and hoping they weren't too good to be true, I called O'Neill's about a couple of problems in our master bathroom.  The person at the office was very nice and scheduled the appointment around my schedule - and the best part, the window was only one hour!!!  Shannon and Lenny came out - they were on time, extremely polite and professional, got everything done quickly, and I just couldn't have been happier.  They are now on my speed dial.

Five stars doesn't seem like enough. Shannon from O'Neill Plumbing visited my home recently to take care of a relatively minor plumbing problem. Although the job was simple, he treated it like any other, was thorough, and the end result is a great job. When he arrived, he took the time to explain what was wrong, how he would make the repair, and stated the cost. After the repair was complete, he again explained the repair, made sure I was ok with everything, and provided advice on how to avoid a reoccurrence of the problem. I received a detailed invoice for the work and my credit card payment was handled electronically onsite--nice touch. I recommend them without hesitation.

This company was recommended from a friend. I am very glad I went with their suggestion, the service was wonderful well priced and Shannon was very thorough with his service. I had a hot water heater replaced and he explained everything to me and made sure everything was working properly before he left, also came with a six year garuntee from the company.  How great is that considering they are 24 hours.  Couldn've been any happier with the service.

Really really great personalized customer service. Shannon gave me his number and checked in with me several times throughout the day to be sure things were getting worked out. He was very knowledgeable and even asked for a photo to help him evaluate whether it was something they'd be likely to be able to fix in one trip. No service fee for them to come look at the problem. $150 minimum for work. Our bill ended up being twice that to replace a worn out shower cartridge (took about 10 minutes) but I guess that's the going rate for such things. I recommend them.

I signed up for Yelp, just so I could rave about this guy. No joke - I call this guy at 8:39 p.m. on a Saturday night, explained my problem, and by 10:15, he was walking out my door, job done. He told me he was a stand-up guy on the phone, and I'll admit, I rolled my eyes a little bit when he said that - but then he proved it. There's a reason he pops first in search results, and it's because he's good.

Shannon and his team were terrific-- A month after moving into my new home, I had a sewage back-up in my basement due to shoddy work by the previous owner.  Shannon arrived less than 2 hours after I called, quickly cleared the blockage, and identified the cause. The fix required excavating my newly finished basement and replacing the main waste line for the house. Shannon and his crew were efficient, professional and meticulous.  Shannon walked me through every step of the process and called regularly with progress updates.  He took great care to make sure every aspect of the job was done right (perfect, really) and even helped me document the shoddy workmanship by the previous owners. They finished the work on time and at the quoted price.  They were respectful of my home and left everything (inside and outside my home) in perfect order-- you would never know they (or the sewage) had ever been there!  Terrific work; outstanding customer service.

In the Spring of 2012, several weeks before my wife was scheduled for surgery, we began smelling an odor from the basement area.  Checked the sump pumps, all ok.  Checked for dead animals around the house.  Nada.  Then it happened, raw sewage backed up into the appropriately named slop sink.
Our neighbor, who had used O'Neill Plumbing, gave us a referral, and we quickly made a call.  Shannon called back, and arranged to come by in the early evening to look at the waste line.  It had collapsed and was completely blocked.  He wrote a contract which we felt was fair, and whaa-laa, within a few days, he and his crew took out the old ceramic tile pipe, and installed new pvc piping to the county line.
Bottom line?  We had a big problem, and O'Neill fixed it .
Since that time, we have used O'Neill Plumbing twice.  And while the pricing on those services we felt tended to be on the high side, we knew it would be done to our satisfaction.

I have called O'Neill Plumbing on two separate occasions and been very happy both times.  Both times, I left a message and Shannon called me back within a few ours.  He asked that I email a picture of what was broken and suggested how he would fix it.  Both times, I bought the replacement parts at Home Depot and he installed them.  Both times, he called me to let me know when he was an hour away and showed up on time.  He even put drop clothes down in the living room so that he would not track any dirt into my place.  Yeah, the guy smells like cigarettes, so what?  He came and fixed my (only) shower at 9p at night over the holidays when no one else would even answer the phone!

Shannon was great...no issues with his work. He was polite, offered a fair price, and fixed the leaky pipe in my ceiling right away. I would recommend him to anyone.

HOWEVER, I absolutely would NOT recommend Mr. Tom Turner, the person Shannon recommended to repair the damage caused to my ceiling. While Tom is a nice guy, his experience with sheet rock is less than average. My ceiling looks terrible. In the process repairing the sheet rock he managed to scrape paint off of my walls. Instead of repainting the entire wall, he simply painted over the areas he damaged. Because he didn't paint the entire wall, the wall appears to have two different paint colors on it. In addition, Tom installed a new light fixture (actually, he literally glued the light fixture onto my ceiling...that's another story), but failed to connect the light fixture with the light switch. I am unable to turn the light on or off. Despite ensuring me that he would return to complete the job, he never did. I am now stuck with an ugly ceiling, a bad paint job, and a light that I cannot use. This is a classic case of a new contractor learning on the job. Highly unprofessional.

A few months ago a friend had given me O'Neill Plumbing's information just in case I ever needed a plumber.  Last week I turned on my outside spigot for the first time this season only to find that the line had burst due to the frigid temps we had this winter.  The line runs under our kitchen sink cabinet right next to the main water line, the dishwasher line and the sink disposal.  A lot of piping in a tight space.

We scheduled for Shannon, the owner, to come out Saturday morning between 9am and 10am.  Like the previous reviews mentioned, Shannon called when he was en route to let us know he was about 40 minutes away.  He arrived at about 9:30 and immediately placed tarps down from the front door, all the way into the kitchen.  Being from the south, I was immediately impressed with how polite he was.  Not only did he protect our floors right away, but he says, Yes, sir and Thank you often.

He thoroughly explained the estimate, which was extremely detailed.  Shannon does not charge by the hour.  He looks at the work that needs to be done and itemizes ALL of the work.  You know exactly what he is going to do BEFORE he starts and puts it in layman terms.

Shannon arrived with two other workers, introduced me to them, and spoke just as politely with them as he did with me.  While I was in the other room I could hear him explaining the work to the other men and was asking for tools the way a surgeon would ask a prep nurse for a scalpel.  Please hand me a 1/4 inch this, or a 3/8 inch that, please.  Thank you.  It was clear he wanted his staff to know exactly what he was doing and why he was doing things a certain way and that he wanted to do it right the first time.  No doubt he takes pride in showing his team how things are supposed to be done and does it in a respectful way.

After he disassembled the sink disposal to clear out the area under the sink, he told me he had a new one on the truck and would go ahead and would replace it.  When I asked him how much, he said, Included, same price.  I thought he was kidding.  He explained that when he first started his business he would throw things in for free just to make a great impression with his service.  As his business has grown he has come to realize that every time he has to return to a customer to fix something he should have caught originally, that there is another customer he will delay getting to; so he just continued with the practice.  He wanted to ensure that if he worked on something in my house he did not want to return to work on something he should have seen on his first visit.  That's a good thing!  Every connection and each on/off handle is brand new under my sink and he installed a bleeder valve so I could prevent the pipe from bursting again.  He explained how to work the bleeder valve and what each handle worked.  Plus, I have a new sink disposal.  He also guarantees his work for one year.  Before leaving he asked if I had any questions and thanked me again for calling him.

Now, if you are looking for the cheapest price around my guess is you won't get it from Shannon.  But Shannon does not cut corners, he backs up his work and, quite frankly; is one of the most polite people I have ever met.  After he left I told my wife I was happy to hand him my credit card!  How many repair people can you say that about?

I can NOT think of a company I would rather have working in my home. I called Shannon (the owner) on a Friday afternoon for my sister in Alexandria, VA. She rents a room in a home and was met with water upon coming downstairs. Going in to the basement revealed actual flowing water. Since she was unable obtain contact with her landlord, and was busy trying to control the water--she called me to help her find a plumber. After seeing many positive reviews here, I called O'Neill Plumbing. Shannon responded immediately, stated his fees up front and was on his way. While on his way, he called my sister and help her locate the water turn-off switch and let her know his ETA. He then phoned me back to let me know the status. (What great follow through!) Unfortunately, the landlord FINALLY got back in touch and subsequently cancelled the service call stating that she had her own plumber.
Shannon was obviously disappointed that his services were no longer needed after giving the much needed help of switching off the water, but has been a professional throughout the entire ordeal. Can't recommend him enough!

Generally, a plumbing emergency isn't fun, but I can say that Shannon of O'Neill Plumbing made the best of a bad situation.  He was prompt in responding to my request for service (including both a call to let me know that he had received my request and another call to confirm that he was on his way), and was at my house in less than 90 minutes after my call.  He was also up-front about pricing (which wasn't cheap, but that was no surprise under the circumstances), and about explaining what he was doing as he went along (ranging from how the inspection camera worked to how he re-secured the toilet when he was done).  He also made an effort not to cause any damage - tarps on the floors and protecting the bathroom walls with cardboard.  There was some minor paint damage, but that wasn't his fault - he used blue painters tape, but for some reason a small section came off with the tape.  Nothing that I couldn't touch up, and without being asked he took off a bit of the charge.  Plus we had an entertaining conversation while he was at work about everything from muscle cars to his colleague's in-progress Hawaiian vacation.  So ... I hope you never have a sewer blockage or other plumbing crisis, but if you do, I would endorse calling O'Neill.

Shannon did a quick and great job HOWEVER Shannon became explosive and extremely unprofessional when I had some very slight confusion about payment where I asked a question about if the payment needed to be made that day, but I had been mistaken. I admitted that I was wrong and there seemed to be no need for an apology, considering it was just a misunderstanding that could have been resolved in a calm and professional manor. He insisted I was wrong, nonetheless, called me a crazy lady, and I had to explain to him that I understood the payment options finally and that was why I was confused. He continued to scream, shout and chastise me. Finally he rudely insisted on voiding my payment and peaced out the door. This was  traumatizing, with a grown man in my home, yelling in my face, going from extremely talkative and nice to this intensely angry person. Please take this seriously. I love this company's service but am terrified to have Shannon back in my home.

I chose O'Neil plumbing based upon the excellent reviews I read here on Yelp.   However, through the arduous process of having the work done at my place, Shannon proved to be far different than I expected.  When I called for an estimate on 8 April 2009 to have a toilet, sink, and radiator taken out of my bathroom and a new sink, toilet and original radiator put back in, he gave a estimate to me over the phone and I asked if he'd like to take a quick stop by to see what had to be done just to verify that there would be no hidden charges.  We made an appointment for 5pm 9 April 2009.  He subsequently missed that appointment.    I called back around 6 May 2009 because he had given me a good quote and I wanted to give him a second chance.  That and the original person I was going to go with decided to raise his price.  Shannon did come by gave me a written quote for the job that we had previously discussed.  On the demo part of the job which was conducted on 11 May 2009, the work was actually very good and I had no complaints.   When the installation of the new toilet, pedestal sink, and radiator occurred on 2 June 2009 that's where we ran into issues.   Upon completion of the job, when my wife came home she noticed that the square bonnets on our faucets were spinning and that the faucet wasn't on straight.  I do want to note that it was his assistant Fred that put on the faucet and not Shannon.  Also, there were scratch marks and residue plumber putty on our newly finished wall tile.  I called Shannon to discuss and he vehemently denied any scratches and mess but agreed to pay for the damages so it could be repaired.  Also he stated that the square bonnets were supposed to spin.  I contacted Kohler the maker of the faucet and they said they weren't supposed to spin and that pins should have been installed.  Our tile refinisher ended up not charging for the repair work so I called and let Shannon know that he didn't have to give me any money but I still wanted the faucet fixed.  I had to call for 5 days to finally get in touch with him as I either got his voicemail or his office assistant Megan.  When I did finally get in contact with Shannon on 9 June 2009, he sent his assistant Fred to straighten the faucet and when I questioned Fred about the pins for the square bonnets he couldn't remember what he did with them and subsequently checked his van for the boxes he took to try and find them.  Since he couldn't fix the square bonnets at that point, I called Shannon to arrange when he could come by and complete the project.  I received no answer and left a message.  I called again on 10 June to discuss and that's when his tone and demeanor become aggressive, rude, and completely unprofessional.  He said he lost money on my job, a job in which he received $865 and provided of $215 for parts which he overcharged for.  He puts on a good show by calling everyone by their surname and acting polite, but when anyone questions anything he does, he becomes very defensive.  All I wanted was for him to finish the job right and I would have given a much better review.

Shannon was exceptional. O'Neill is now our go-to plumbing service because of Shannon's quality customer service, responsiveness, willingness to go above and beyond the task, and knowledgeability of a wide range of issues. We had called a few other plumbers to re-route a pipe so that we could install a new washer/dryer, and no one had returned our call. We called O'Neill's at 1000 and were told by the office staff that it didn't look like they would be able to take on our job. Shannon demonstrated the personal touch he puts into the business and his customers and called us back a few hours later to say he had reviewed the pictures we sent him and could take care of our problem after dinner that same night. He and Carlos came by, quickly assessed our problem, got to work, and were done in about an hour and half.  Shannon explained what he had done and gave us some advice on how to integrate the new pipes with our new washer/dryer. We couldn't ask for a better or more trusted plumber.

O'Neill plumbing just got done doing a complete reinstall of the water servicing pipe in my condo.  Shannon came out for the estimate and was ready to get to work that day (This wasn't a major emergency leak either, just a slow leak killing my water bill).  Digging up the small portion of grass between the driveways it was as we had feared, the leak was somewhere beneath the slab foundation.   Shannon talked me through the process and explained how the job would be done.  The old black tubing pipe was removed and a new copper pipe put in place.  It was a two day job involving a drilling machine and everything, but the leak is now gone and I have a mighty copper pipe now.  His crew was quick, polite and skilled, and they cleaned up after themselves completely.  It was an expensive job, but seeing how many people were here and the equipment needed I felt it was very reasonably priced.  He even fixed my wobbly toilet for free!  Hopefully I don't need any major plumbing work again, but if I do I'll be sure to call O'Neill's!

Okay, Shannon O'Neill just got done with a water heater replacement job at my condo. I contacted him after reading all the positive reviews on Yelp. To all that had written a negative review, all I can say is, you are most likely the problem, not Shannon!  I called him late at night (9 pm) yesterday and he was willing to come out right then, but I scheduled an appointment for the following day (today) between 10 and 11 am. Shannon called this morning and asked if it was okay to come by a little earlier; I said sure, and he and his crew got here at 9:45 am! When I called the company yesterday, we discussed the price of repairing my water heater versus the price (and warranty) of installing a new one. Everything Shannon said on the phone (price, warranty, schedule) was exactly as he said it would be, and I am so appreciative of someone who is so honest and considerate. Don't look any further; just give Shannon a call and he will make sure you are satisfied.  I can't give him and his crew a higher rating, and I will refer them to all my work associates and friends who ask about needing a plumber.

I found this company after reading reviews on Yelp.  From my very first call to them yesterday, they were so helpful. When I sent a picture to them via email today to  show them specifically the problem, I got an immediate call back from Shannon who was very concerned about a potentially dangerous/fire hazard caused by the water heater.  He offered to walk me through, over the phone, the immediate steps I needed to take to turn the gas off.   Long story short, he was at my house within three hours correcting the problem, checking for other gas leaks.  he even read through our previous home inspection report to see if this water heater problem had been identified.  This was a serious problem that could have caused our heater to explode  and he recognized the seriousness of dealing with this quickly.   Oneill will definitely be our on-call plumber for any other problems in our house. (we live in a 100 year row house and he seemed to know what he was doing around old pipes, foundations etc).

I would recommend O'Neill plumbing base on my first experience with the company. I thought our kitchen sink was leaking as water was dripping through the basement ceiling. I needed an emergency visit and could not wait until the following day. I called Shannon and they came out that night even though they were already on another job. They inspected the situation and diagnosed that it was the disposal unit that was causing the leak. They replaced my unit but the leak continued - it turned out the leak was in the faucet. Since they had already quoted me for the disposal replacement, they honored their origianl work contract and replaced my faucet at no additional cost. This quick repair stopped the leak and was an upgrade over the faucet that I originally had. Even after what looked to be a long day, Shannon and his crew worked quickly and professionally and more importantly, honored their original estimate. This is obviously a family business that believes in putting the customer first and providing quality service. I would definitely call them again for any plumbing related repair.

If you're looking for a plumber, you can stop looking now that you've found O'Neill Plumbing.  I've had multiple plumbing issues over the last few years, and Shannon has always come to fix them with a smile, no matter what time it is.   Recently I had a sewer line problem I've been putting off fixing as long as possible but could no longer avoid.  It turned out to be a major repair that involved digging up part of my foundation.  I was very nervous about it, but I shouldn't have been.  Shannon told me he could get it taken care of in 1 day, and he did.  He was on time, brought a crew with him, and not only finished the job the same day but cleaned out my stairwell, driveway and front lawn!  Everyone on the job was professional, clean, and took good care of my property.  Shannon was even nice to my rambunctious dogs when giving me progress reports and they wanted to get in on the action.  Shannon is that much sought after, rare commodity: a professional, honest plumber and an all around great person.
