BEWARE This guy is a scam artist

He ripped us off for thousands on a kitchen remodel project.  He also uses the name Bulldog construction.  We have filed criminal and civil charges against this man.  Do not use him he will rob you blind!

Silas Cortez will scam you out of your money. I made the mistake of paying before the work was completed and now he has packed up his tools and is saying he refuses to work until I sign a contract agreeing to pay additional money. I paid $7000 and have less than half of the work done, plus he never supplied 200 sq ft of tile, pedestal sink, lights, shower doors, and other materials that were supposed to be included in the price.

He made many mistakes in his work and charged me for additional labor and materials when I asked him to correct the mistakes. He installed bathtub plumbing 2 feet from where we discussed and then said it would cost me an additional $500-$600 to move to the original agreed upon location. He never asked for my approval or opinion on any of the design decisions including basic items such as faucets, shower doors, wall texture, etc. I'm horrified to say that he sanded and spray textured the cedar interior walls and ceiling in my 100-year-old house. I was beyond mortified, but even more mortified when he had the nerve to charge me for the removal without telling me there would be a charge. BEWARE!!

I wish more than anything I would have read the reviews first. We had just been scammed by another contractor for a basement remodel. We found Silas Cortez on Craigslist for an unrelated covered patio project. We hired him and his 2 sons to do the job. They did a good, fast job - left some things unfinished - but all in all we were happy. Seeing us scammed by the other contractor, Silas claimed he would have had our basement finished by now. So, desperate and trusting, we hired him to complete our basement project. What a mistake. He gave us an affordable quote, said he could start work right away, and would be done in two weeks. About a week in, Silas' sons abandoned him, leaving him to complete the job with the help of his younger inexperienced third son. 3 months later, our project is still not done. When Silas asked for money, we always obliged. We had all the materials ready so he had no excuse not to work. One day, he packed up his tools, and said he was going to McDonald's for breakfast. He never returned. That was a month ago. He claims to be skilled. He claims to have been in the industry for 30 years. He installed our new furnace and water heater. Neither of them work properly. The electrical he installed is not correct. I hope that when we finally get our fixtures in the plumbing works. We made the horrible mistake of trusting in another human being, and we gave him our money. He took complete advantage of us. The worst part about it, folks, is this man is a pastor. He claims to be a man of God. He will pretend to be your friend. Please, please, PLEASE do not hire this man. If you are reading this review and are considering him, please think twice. Contact me directly. I will tell you all of the details. I didn't include the nitty gritty here because you would be reading for an hour. The bottom line is, please do not make the same mistake that we did and trust this scam artist.

Silas Cortez/Bulldog Construction registered his PayPal account with telephone number 601-853-4242.  This number is registered to Bulldog Construction in Madison, Mississippi, which has nothing to do with his handyman business (call PayPal to verify for yourself).  I obtained court documents at the Arapahoe County Courts where judgments were made against him in four other lawsuits filed by other people who have robbed by him.  I searched on Google maps and Waze for the addresses listed on the court documents and found none of the addresses are legit or valid addresses.  He is a total scam artist and will steal your money!!!  Do your research before hiring this guy or deal with the consequences!!!

I effectively hired Silas through his son Mike. They were using the name Gizmo's Painting at the time, but I know they use the name Bulldog Construction as well. These two will absolutely lie to your face and steal your money. We hired them for a bathroom project that seemed to go well at first but as soon as I made the mistake of paying an installment that fulfilled 85% of the contract, they refused to finish and made excuse after excuse. After literally months (contract signed in January 2019 and officially not fulfilled July 2019)  of trying to get them to finish, we hired a new contractor to finish the project and lost a ton of money in the process.

I googled Gizmo's Painting and didn't find anything ... and they were also a 5 star listing by HomeAdvisor (I don't trust HomeAdvisor either now). It wasn't until we started having problems that I googled the name of the man who was doing all of the work ... Silas. I wish I would have found the connection in the beginning.

I am writing this in September and our original contract was put in place in January. We gave them every inch of the benefit of the doubt so please listen to all of the bad reviews and do not go near him.

Also, do not use Gizmo's Painting or Bulldog Construction which are other names they go by.

Silas is a liar and a thief ... plain and simple.

In my opinion, avoid at all costs because he will most likely cost you $$$$!  Promises the world, provides a low quote, takes your $, never shows on time or at all, blows off deadlines/due dates, doesn't use agreed upon materials/supplies, performs a fraction of the work, causes expensive damage, and disappears into the night with the supplies/materials.  

If you are foolish enough to consider using Silas Cortez after reading this and other reviews: get a solid contract, take pictures of everyone's face and their license plates, don't give money up front, be available to watch them like a hawk, and get a good attorney because you will most likely need one.

If something seems too good to be true, it will most likely be in this case.  I should have read the reviews first:(
