I own a rental property and was happy to find a company who could winterize both the sprinkler system and the swamp cooler in one visit. I called on a Thursday and set up service for the following Monday with their very nice dispatcher. I offered to provide my credit card info up front, but she said they would call me for payment when the work was done.

On the Monday the work was scheduled I heard nothing from the company. I was scrambling to arrange a last minute trip to Florida for a family medical emergency. Boarded a flight the following Tuesday morning and my phone was in airplane mode until 6pm when we arrived. When I finally had a chance to charge my phone and check my messages I was in for a nasty surprise. Candace, one of the owners of 5 Star Drains & Plumbing, had personally fired off three text messages and a voice mail demanding immediate payment, each one more unpleasant than the last. In the span of just FOUR HOURS, she had progressed from please call us back to we are putting a lien on your property in the morning.

I called the following morning and made payment to the dispatcher, then answered Candace's texts to let her know that her inexplicably aggressive behavior had cost her a repeat customer, and that I planned to share my disappointment through an online review. Her response was to threaten me with a slander lawsuit if I attempted to defame her company.

The second star is given because my tenant confirms that the technicians did complete the work and appeared to be competent. But I was shocked to be treated like a criminal and threatened with a lien because I was out of cell phone contact for one afternoon. And trying to suppress an honest review by threatening a lawsuit just adds insult to injury. Very unprofessional people - steer clear.

These guys left me a threatening message, because of my negative review, that they're going to sue me for liable but I think they meant libel.  They also wanted to know my contract information but probably were asking for my contact information. They also linked a news article about a couple getting sued for leaving a bad yelp review.

It's no wonder this company provides such poor service. And besides, look at the the review they left for themselves, they gave themselves a 5-star review!  I mean, what kind of company does that?

I still stand by my original review even though they threatened to sue me.  Avoid this company at all costs and it will save you some headache.

Sprinkler system issue. Guy had no clue and said he would have to bring someone else out. Charged $260 for basically nothing and now won't return our calls.
Call at your own peril.

A few years ago, my elderly mother contacted this company to clean the drain to her home.  The owner said they would have to excavate the front yard to get to the drain and it would cost $700.00 and they needed the money up front.  My mother gave the a check for $700.00. The owner and another guy, who we believed was the co-owner at least at that time, went to the basement and came back up and said they fixed the drain through the basement.  When they came back upstairs the owner called his wife and said he had a check for $700.00 in his hand.  He said ok and told my mother the cost was still $700.00 and left with the check.  My mother was in her 90's at the time.

Recently we were given their number by someone else and we called to try to get some work done.  They never returned any of the calls and just completely ignored the messages.  When we realized that they were the same company that took advantage of my mother, we knew even if they called we would not use this company.

Incidentally, the address they use is a box at the UPS Store at 3879 East 120th Ave., Thornton, CO 80233

Beware if you use this company.

Second time in a month these guys have save my bacon.  This last time I had a main sewage blockage.  Showed up same day on time and on budget.  Charlie and Carlos are very personable and easy to work with.

Extremely unreliable and poor communicators. I had a hot water heater go bad. I called the company and Charlie and his assistant came out the same day (9/5/15). They put a valve on the inlet to the tank to stop the flow, which was done fine. They said the tank was still under warranty and took a picture of the label. Charlie said he would get back to me in a day or two. When I hadn't heard from them for eight days I called them. Charlie's assistant answered and after I told him who I was and what I was calling about he remembered the meeting. He said Charlie had gone to Mexico but would be back that night and he would have him call me the next morning since he (the assistant) had no idea what Charlie had done with my matter. I still have not heard a word from them the this day (10/16/15).

We called them to winterize our sprinkler system last year and they were a bit more than other companies, but we figured it was worth it to get it done right.  This spring we went to turn back on our sprinkler system and we had freeze damage! We called them back out and they originally quoted us $185 to fix the issue they caused.  They tried to say they hadn't done the service in the fall, but luckily I had proof of payment.  After a lot of back and forth between the owner and the guy who showed up to do the work, we agreed to pay $100 to fix it.  Really unhappy to drop $69 to winterize my sprinklers to only have to pay another $100 in spring.  The only redeeming factor was the worker that came to fix the issue was really hospitable and tried to help us out- he gets the star in this review.  I would not recommend this company to anyone, as they don't stand behind their work unless you'll pay them again.
