Custom Electric

I can't speak to their work directly... but I was very impressed by Jack when I called Custom Electric with an urgent issue. Jack listened to our problem and suggested we call Xcel, as it sounded like a power company issue. Not only was he right, but he followed up a little while later to make sure all was resolved. That's good service!

We didn't end up using Custom Electric, but the owner was so kind in helping us find someone who could complete our specific task. He even followed up with us the next day to make sure everything went well.

I needed some ceiling light fixtures, a kitchen ceiling fan and dimmer switches that I had already bought installed. I called Custom Electric and Jack scheduled a time to come over and give me an estimate and schedule a time to do the work. He and Nathaniel came on time, they were a pleasure to work with, trustworthy, efficient and finished quickly! I'm so happy with my new lights and I will definitely be calling them again when I get my other lights to install! I highly recommend them! Thank you!!

I am beyond pleased that I have power to my garage!  I called Sunday morning and Jack and his team member (sorry I didn't ask his name)  was able to come at 11 am the same day.  He found the problem and fixed it in less than an hour.  So very pleasant to work with - I would highly recommend you trusting Custom Electric with your next project or electrical problem.

I've sat on this review for a while now, and contemplated whether or not to write it - but my experience with Jack has been bothering me for weeks now, so I've decided that it's time.  

I've worked with Jack on two occasions - and this previous time will be my last, without question.

I'll start with the pros first, to be fair:  Jack was able to come over the day that I called him, and has always been good with follow up/staying on me if I get busy with something else.  The jobs themselves have always been completed with care, and I have no doubt in his abilities as an electrician.  I've ultimately been happy with the work that was performed, so if you don't care about personality or having Jack offend you/everyone you know, then I guess I would recommend him.

However....

Over the course of 45 minutes (the last time Jack was in my house), he and his assistant managed to offend the following people/communities:  My neighbor (who we love), the LGBTQ community (mostly transgender individuals), pretty much all women (saying that they shouldn't be allowed to inspect homes or work in certain fields like construction), lower income households, real estate agents, etc etc etc.  The list honestly goes on.  I eventually just stopped replying to him altogether and wanted him to finish the work so he would leave my house.  I felt gross afterwards, and continue to feel angry about the topics discussed.  It was literally nonstop, and he would jump from making fun of one marginalized group to the next.  It's almost like he wanted to get a reaction out of me?  I was shocked when he finally left.

I also continued to ask Jack, over the entire 45 minutes, if he was able to provide me with any sort of estimate or even just an idea of what the job would cost.  He would laugh and say things like 10 million dollars, and then never actually answer my question.  I wasn't hassling him on price - I just wanted to know what to expect so I wasn't left with a huge bill that I wasn't ready to pay for.  I needed him to fix a tiny issue with just 1 switch that I couldn't do myself, but he had his assistant pull out all of the GFIs in my kitchen, re-wire them, lengthen the wires in each box, etc.  All that would have been great, but I did not ask them to do that and it added to the cost. I continuously asked him to just focus on the 1 switch I needed help with, but my requests apparently fell on deaf ears.  I would also ask him what the issue was with each box, trying to make sense of them pulling everything apart and he just kept saying well, it's not wired right.  He would never elaborate beyond that, no matter how many times I asked him.

The entire time that his assistant was doing work (that I had not asked them to do), they both joked/laughed about all-gender bathrooms, mocked transgender individuals, called them names which I won't repeat here and made sure they let me know their stance/beliefs on gender.

This job was completed over a month ago at this point, and I'm still angry with how I felt after it was done.  My (tiny) problem is fixed - but I will never allow Jack or his assistant in my homes ever again.  The bill ended up being $275.  I don't even know if that's an appropriate cost of not (45 mins of work, 1 switch re-wired for my garbage disposal and a couple of ground wires lengthened, basically), but I just wanted to give people an idea of what to expect cost-wise.

Oh ya - and you can forget about any sort of mask wearing.  The first time we used Jack was during peak covid (summer 2020).  I had to continuously ask him to wear his mask inside the house, but he just kept pulling it down and coughing all over my house.  It was lovely.

I felt this review was necessary, given how upsetting my last experience was.

Jack was prompt to call me back and delivered on very quality work. He's been in business for over 40 years and knows what he's going. Highly recommend him and his team!

Jack's team at Custom Electric were incredible! When making an offer on new home, our inspection showed that the home had old knob & tube wiring. We had 4 electricians provide estimates to determine the cost of removing all of it for safety, and we gave the project to Jack. He & Charles arrived on a holiday to start the work and he was here every single day for almost two weeks to get the entire house rewired, installed recessed lighting in two rooms, added a new electrical panel outside, raised the power line to the garage, removed extra unneeded wires from the exterior of the home, added an electric car charger to the garage and fixed the power to the garage door opener, installed a video doorbell,  added dimmers to several rooms, and installed all new light fixtures. Nathaniel was in our crawl space under the house, to climbing around in the attic to rewire in some tight spaces and he did a great job installing fixtures and outlets. They even kept making holes to a minimum, to keep from having to patch a ton of dry wall. ALL THAT in just over a week.

Jack's team did all this, completed on time before our move-in date, for a very fair price. More than fair, in fact. As the project became larger than the original estimate and he honored the original price. Jack was honest, trustworthy, professional, and very knowledgeable. He is not just an electrician, he is also an electrical engineer, so he really knows the best way to tackle projects large and small. He was really awesome to work with and gave us great advice on other things to look out for in our new home. Outstanding work & a great team of guys. Highly recommended.

I used Custom Electric for a small residential job...  installation of a smart ceiling light fixture, and a couple of Nest hardwired smoke detectors.

Jack came out with an assistant within a week of my call, and finished the job in under an hour.  I was most impressed that he repaired my defective light fixture (it was brand new, but had shipping damage), and got the unit installed!  The value of Custom Electric is in that work ethic - I'm certain others would have walked away from the issue.

Speaking of others... I called three other electricians in the top five on Yelp for my area (Greenwood Village), and none of them returned my call.

It goes without saying that Jack is now my go-to-guy for all electrical needs, and give Custom Electric my highest recommendation.

Jack was excellent, collaborated with another team to help install an island hood vent and were in and out with great job done!

Jack squeezed us in the same day to fix the power that went out in our guest bedroom. We had people coming into town that night and he went out of his way to get the job done! Very friendly and calls back very quickly. 10 stars!!

Jack and Nathaniel came to my house on short notice and did a great job taking care of my issue.  He was easy to get a hold of and fit me into his schedule that was convenient for both of us.
I had a wall socket that kept shorting out on me and Jack and Nathaniel quickly diagnosed the problem, replaced/rewired the socket, and saved me from potential fire hazard.  They were prepared, had all the tools they needed and finished in under an hour.

This is my second time using Jack and he is wonderful! The first time was to hang new light fixtures in my house and the most recent was a thermostat that wasn't working. Long story short, it was more than the thermostat and turned into issues with our boiler. Not only did Jack help to get someone over for the boiler, but he helped us get multiple quotes from people he trusted and even offered to drop off electric heaters while we were dealing with the issue. We will be calling him again!

You guys, in my years of relying on yelp and trusting reviews, this one let me down more than ever before.

I'll spare you the details, but over the course of 3 weeks, multiple (10+) calls with jack trying to track him down (he went to FL, he was in the mountains, etc etc), two visits to my house, I was left in the dark (literally). While jack was attempting to hang a light the power was cut in half of my upstairs, both of which were my infant and kids rooms where I rely on electricity to power their baby monitors. I told Jack I absolutely needed power restored ASAP and he gave me a date 1 week out to return, which ultimately he never ended up coming back due to him not wanting to go in my attic to deal with the electrical wiring as he mentioned he has sinus problems (I told him my husband would go up there if we could use his ladder otherwise we had no way of even getting up there to help).

Not only was my experience a huge hassle, but ultimately ended up putting my family at risk with exposed wires and no electricity.

What a shame. I come from a family of electricians and I had never wished so badly one of them lived close to have helped me avoid this huge headache.

Jack Rushin of Custom Electric is an experienced electrician who is conscientious, attentive to detail, and who has struck me as genuinely concerned about my situation and my safety. I am happy to give him a good review here on Yelp, and encourage people to contact him (see my note below).

My story: I called on a Sunday afternoon for help with a breaker that just wouldn't flip back on (even after I unplugged everything on that particular circuit). Jack came out around 4pm Sunday (which was awesome), quickly diagnosed my problem (had a couple of bad breakers), and then identified some other issues we had while he was out. About an hour and a half after he arrived, all the power was back on.

He came back a week later to fix the neutral bar in my home's breaker box. The issue was that the previous owners (it's an older home, so there's been a few) took shortcuts when added new circuits to the home for an A/C, a hot tub, etc. Jack recommended fixing these shortcuts, as he could see that the neutral bar was not working properly (some of the screws couldn't be tightened). While this was a safety issue, Jack didn't try and scare me into this fix. Instead, he offered advice/guidance, explained why he would fix it, and let me make my own choice. (BONUS: my lights don't flicker anymore...loose neutral bar was the cause and I had no idea).

NOTE: When it came to getting the neutral bar fixed, Jack was uncertain about when he would like to do the work, and rescheduled with me a couple of times. Once he rescheduled because of the weather, the other time it was unspecified.

I might have dinged my review here on Yelp because of the rescheduling, but Jack shared that he has some health issues. Since Jack's follow-up visit with me wasn't an emergency, he felt comfortable rescheduling me. I have no problem with this, only I'd advise him to communicate that with people, as most are sympathetic to this if they're informed.

Suffice to say, if you have an emergency on an evening or weekend, OR if you have a problem that another electrician has said will cost thousands, call Jack. While I'd rate Jack as a little more cautious than myself, he struck me as completely honest, and I think caution is a good thing in an electrician.

Jack has been a lifesaver on multiple occasions, I can't recommend him highly enough. He's extremely responsive, reasonable and has reliably completed work on multiple non-trivial residential jobs as promised and to a high standard... one was a furnace replacement for my 93-yr old mother in just a few hours when it was 13 degrees out! (So I'm not kidding he's been a life saver!)

Jack and team showed up on a Sunday within the hour of me calling them. Extremely knowledgeable, reliable, and trustworthy. I will be using Jack and team moving forward.

Jack has done a couple of jobs for me over the last few years including significant revamping of some very old electrical in a rental I own.  He is always timely, does quality work and looks for affordable ways to solve problems. I strongly recommend this business.

I just had Jack and Nathaniel over to install a RING video doorbell for me and I couldn't be happier.  Jack even had the foresight to bring along a new doorbell that would be compatible with RING (the one we already had was battery operated and was not compatible).
While they were here, we also had them install an outdoor outlet off of the patio.  They were very friendly, fast, and efficient.  I will DEFINITELY be calling Jack again the next time I need electrical work done.  I highly recommend them!  : )

Story Time! - In the first night I spent in the house, three of the outlets in the kitchen mysteriously stop working. After playing Marco Polo with the service box, the three outlets appeared to not be on any of the known circuits! According to my fitness watch, I went for a 10 mile run that night based on my pulse and blood pressure as I worried that I had a short in a line that wasn't connected to the old service box in my house.

Called Custom Electric that morning and they were there early the next afternoon. They found that the issue was a broken wire from one of the functioning outlets! Then when they asked what the outlets would be used for, they stopped us from having a circuit that couldn't stand the load we were planning!

One visit and they stopped a potential fire hazard, made my kitchen ready for modern appliances, fixed an ungrounded outlet, and they were able to give me a quote (on request) for a new service panel and some new outlets being put in.

Did I mention this was all done on day-of the call?

Jack showed up to make a repair on a Saturday with very short notice on something he had done years before. He was professional, courteous and kind. His work is exceptional and I could not recommend a better electrician.

Wanted two Wemo switches installed in a box that currently had three switches in it. I messed it up completely (not an electrician and just follow the pretty pictures in the Wemo instructions). He spotted it and had it running quickly.

Absolutely would recommend! Jack was the only electrician in the area that was able (or willing) to fit me into his schedule when half our homes electricity went out the weekend before xmas. After repairing a few pieces in the electric box and fixing my crappy attempt at installing a GFCI outlet, our home was up and running again. I had a really great experience with Jack.  I had a tough situation with a transformer that couldn't be found, as it was buried in my walls but was not working, Jack and his partner never lost patience or gave up on the project until it was solved. I highly recommend custom electric.

I am perplexed by all of the positive reviews for Custom Electric.  I had a bad experience and didn't end up using them on my job.  I had contacted Jack in the beginning of April for a job to install some new and replacement in an old home.  My timeframe for the project was between April 15 and May 15 and needed to be coordinated with some other work being done in the home at the same time.  After a very positive initial conversation, I was unable to get Jack to commit to come to the house to even give me an estimate.  He was finally able to stop by around April 20th and he was in the home for about an hour assessing the work.  He explained to me that the job would be extensive, and probably run around $5000 (maybe more) and would require re-wiring the entire house and would take about a week.  However, given all of his experience and great reviews, I felt comfortable making a verbal agreement for him to start the work as soon as possible, but he strung me along for another 2 weeks delaying the start the job even further. When he stopped returning any of my calls I finally gave up and hired another electrician.  I was glad that I did because it only took the new person (another master electrician) about 1-1/2 days and cost about 1/3 of what Jack had quoted.  It did not require a total re-wire - just some minor reconfigurations of the existing wire.  

I wish that Jack had just told me upfront that he did not want to do my job so that I could have avoided major delays in my overall project flow.

I've used Jack a couple times now and he's been super responsive and super fast. No messing around, gets right to the problem and fixes it. Efficient and friendly service for a variety of electrical issues.

Jack has been beyond helpful in our times of electrical need.  On one occasion, after a wind storm, the entire electric to our house was left bent and out of commission.  He repaired it so that we could function and then replaced it properly once parts came in. He also repaired a short in our daughter's bathroom on, no pun intended, short notice during crucial potty training days.  If you hav ever been in the potty training vortex, you know that moving your kids location midway isn't very doable.  We highly recommend Jack.  He's honest and knowledgeable!

Not many people will take the time now-a-days to talk things through on the phone. Jack is the exception. Jack was incredibly helpful in doing a quick top-level design to bring a 100a sub-panel to the garage.  I appreciate this and will surely be using him for my electrical needs.

If you've got an electrical issue -- Jack at Custom Electric is the one you need call! I had a circuit breaker problem and, while others couldn't even return a call, Jack was on it immediately. He called back right away, we scheduled a time (the next day) and he showed up right on time. He not only fixed the issue but pointed out another problem and resolved that too. Called Jack at Custom Electric. He was busy loading his truck, but he didn't mind answering my question about a miniature fuse. This says a lot as I'm sure fuses are not exactly a big money-maker. He also said he would hunt it down and get it

He is very trustworthy and I felt like he was part of my family who came to help me with an electrical problem. He fixed my sparking wires and went above and beyond to ensure the electric was safe all over the house. He's easy to talk to and understand and very professional. Jack and his nephew were able to come out the same day I called! They were thoughtful and efficient. Though it wasn't as straightforward as hoped (old 1924 house), they fixed the issue. We are so pleased. This is now the 2nd time I've needed Jack's expertise in the last three years and I won't hesitate to call for any other electrical problems.

I moved into my new house and the entire basement lights or outlets just won't work. I called Jack in the morning and he showed up on the same day. When I said,Do I have a bad box? given how old the house is (built in 1953) and given how dumb I looked, it was a perfect opportunity for him to scam me right? But he said,'Oh no, you have a great box, you just need to change out this piece.. which only cost me $58. You can just tell Jack is a honest man, making his honest money. He is also extremely knowledgeable. I am having him coming back to do more work for me down the road.

We sold our house and needed some work done  from the inspection report. We got several bids and they were the most honest and fare with pricing!  We called and he gave us an estimate over the phone which was so affordable compared to what some of the other companies were charging. They were so friendly and got the job done in one day! I would definitely recommend them to anyone!

I had the pleasure of working directly with Jack, who owns Custom Electric. He is super responsive by phone and does not make you wait for hours or days (like some electricians I have contacted) to hear back from him. He gave us a rough estimate for our job (replacing a wired doorbell and replacing outdoor light fixtures) and came out a couple days later, on a Saturday, since I didn't have the flexibility to meet during the week. He quickly diagnosed the problem with our doorbell and swiftly replaced the lights. He is knowledgeable and good at explaining things, friendly, and reasonably priced. We will call him again for our electrical needs!

We had a very random, annoying electrical issue in our home that we're selling in 3 days. Jack was available to come out immediately (on a Sunday!) to quickly fix the issue. Very nice guy, so glad he was able to help on such short notice!

I needed to get a simple light fixture installed, and Jack was finished in about five minutes.  Not to mention that he was very friendly!  I would definitely use Custom Electric the next time I need any electrical work done.

Jack was GREAT! Excel Energy shut off my power on Friday, claiming I needed work done on my meter box, and I would need an inspector to come out before they would turn it back on, which could only be after Labor Day...minimum 4 days without power. I WAS PISSED! I called a few electricians, sent pictures, and got estimates for $2,000 to over $3,000. Jack came to my house on Sunday Labor Day Weekend, explained that I didn't need all that work done, did the repair quickly, called Excel on my behalf, Excel showed up a few hours later and turned my power back on when they told me they would not!  What I really appreciate about Jack is his estimate was a whole lot less than the others from the photos I sent, but once he got to my house and assessed the situation he charged me a lot less than the estimate, he was honest and fair.  Thank you Jack and Charles.

Jack is responsive, on time, and did excellent/professional work!  I called a few places before finding this company and was surprised as Jack was able to fit in our electric for our hot tub on the same day it was delivered.  Jack came with an assistant and they did a phenomenal job!  I have this number saved for ANY of our electrical needs in the future!!

Noticed that my lights had been flickering on and off for a few days so I called Jack first thing in the morning and he was able to come out here within the hour to take a look. He quickly fixed the issue (poorly installed connections) and his work was really professional and clean. Took about an hour to diagnose problem, get up on the roof to repair, and finish up. Reasonably priced and fair.

Had to have two new outlets put in - and neither one was in a convenient spot. Jack and his assistant (whose name eludes me - the dangers of having a 2 year old and a 1 month old) came out on a Sunday to do it. Not only that, but they had Cary come out and patch the drywall that they had to open up. All in all, for a rather intense job, I think it took them less than 2 hours total (not counting Cary having to come back once the drywall was dry so he could texture, but that was around our schedule as well). Very happy and will be using them again.

I called jack of custom electric without reading any reviews but found myself in need of an electrician on a Saturday and his company was the first that came up on the list of licensed electricians on yelp. He promptly answered the phone and determined it was a quick easy enough job and stated he could probably have it done after the current job he was at was complete. Perfect!  So he kept his promise and came later in the afternoon and was able to diagnose them fix the problem.  I was a little surprised at the bill but in all honesty everything costs and honest trustworthy work is worth it to me.  Of course time will tell but I have a feeling he is honest and not trying to pull any wool over or anything of the sort.  Appreciate the quick response and that he was able to commit and do the job so quickly. I recently had to go through four or five calls to different contractors over a period of time just to get a fence fixed!  So I really appreciate when some one shows up when they say will these days.  Jack I hope your health problems get some relief as well - I know it has to be difficult to work under those conditions.

I had been having difficulty getting an electrician to my new home for various tasks that needed to be done. Jack and Nathanial came when they said they would and completed what needed to be done. Jack even reviewed my inspection report and addressed any problems listed to make sure all was okay! Amazing service! Would definitely use again.

Highly recommend Custom Electric. They came by today and did a great job and completed the project in a timely manner. Their price was also very reasonable. Certainly will hire them for future projects.

These guys are great Jack and Nathaniel are great they came bery quickly after I had called and they took care of my problems quickly and professionally.  They were affordable and extremely friendly.  I would recommend them to anybody in need of electric work.

Jack did a fantastic job helping us out with an issue with kitchen wiring to our refrigerator. He was upfront and honest in describing the problem and what he needed to do. Prices were very reasonable, and frankly you can't put a price on quality work from an honest contractor. Furthermore Jack is very well versed on the issues that arise specifically with older electric work in the wash park area. Would highly recommend.

This time around, we had a fairly small electrical job but Custom Electric was responsive, honest, fair and just a really nice guy. We will keep their number in case another electrical issue comes up.

Jack has completed my basement electric work. He is very flexible to work with my schedule. The price is very reasonable. I will use him again in my future projects.

Custom Electric were the only ones that would come out on weekends and stay late during the week to complete the project (or even just come look at the project) that I needed completed at my house.  Jack was on time and gave me his advice when it came to what I wanted done to my house.  He was pushy when it came to extra work he thought needed to be done but overall I would have done it down the road.  Will call him again when I need something done around my house.

Jack did a great job. He responded right away when I first reached out to him and was able to diagnose and fix the electrical issue I was having at my house. I also appreciated how he followed up with me days after coming to my house to make sure that everything was working again and refused to accept payment until he was sure it was fixed. Will most definitely be calling Jack next time I'm in need of electrical work.

I love Custom Electric! I have used them several times and will in the future as well. Unlike other electric companies I've hired before, Jack and his son are always reliable, on time, and do great work. I love that it's a small and local company too. Would definitely recommend Custom Electric to anyone that needs electrical work done!

We recently purchased a home built in the 1940s, needless to say it had a few electrical issues that became a real nuisance. The outside lamp post didn't work and many of the outlets couldn't handle even a vacuum without tripping the circuit breaker. We were somewhat dreading having an electrician come out because we thought this could be a pricey project. As stated in other reviews, Jack and his assistant, Nathaniel, came out to the house a week after I called them and on a Saturday which was great. They quickly identified our problems and were able to diagnose and fix our biggest issues in about an hour. We never felt like they were up selling us and they explained what they were doing along the way. The cost seemed completely reasonable for the work they did and they were professional and friendly to boot! We have to wait until the spring to fix the lamp post but we will definitely be calling Jack when that time comes.

Jack was prompt, efficient, and knowlegeable about work on an old house.  We plan to have his company back to do further work.

I read the last review and I agree Jack likes to talk, but it wasn't a problem because so do I! And, as a conspiracy buff with the government being at the center of most conspiracies I enjoyed the banter. He never said anything racist to me. He definitely has a down to earth appeal, and perhaps is not suitable for someone who needs a whole crew to come in and get everything done in one day. Jack worked alone or with his son Kurt, who was as pleasant and nice as could be, and it took many days to get the job done. It was a big job though, putting in a whole new electrical box and basically rewiring the whole house. We called him back again to work on some kitchen lights and are happy with this work too. I think he is a trustworthy good man. Case in point...my beloved little chihuahua ran away because my boyfriend and I went to a movie while Jack & Kurt were working at our house. I shoulda known better but hindsight is 20/20.  I got a call in the theater and Jack was so upset cause Biggie had squeezed her bad little self under the fence, and took off running. Kurt scaled the 6ft fence trying to catch her, but she was gone! Jack stayed until 8pm looking for Biggie until I got home. I discovered later he had left me five messages on my phone. When my boyfriend found Biggie hangin' at the Walgreens (who knows why?!!!)  I called Jack right away. He was very happy to know she was okay and felt very bad about the whole thing. But I told him it was totally my fault...I shoulda known she would bolt! She's crazy like that! I felt bad for putting he and Kurt through that!  I also feel bad about that last review because it sounds like the whole thing got off on the wrong foot! It happens I know, but in my case Jack & Kurt were more than trustworthy, and did a good job. I will definitely be calling them if I need an electrician...but not for dog sitting:)!

Jack came out for the second time and fixed another outlet that was blown from a hair dryer.  He was incredibly flexible with time and came over after business hours to help us out.  I cannot recommend him enough.  On top of doing efficient good work, he's personable and a joy to talk to.

Had a great experience with Custom Electric. Jack was always prompt and finished our job quickly and professionally. Would highly recommend him for any job, big or small.

Myself, a friend, and a family member all had very poor experiences with Jack Rushin at Custom Electric.  Jack did not complete the work he was contracted to finish and would hang up on me every time I called to ask when it would get completed.  Only when we threatened to sue did he finally agree to complete his work.  Jack is also incredibly unprofessional: Whether you like it or not, Jack will share his racist opinions, conspiracy theories, and hate for the government and will not leave a site until he feels he has sufficiently shared every thought with you (a family member had to call a neighbor to help get him out of her home).   Jack also did not correctly complete some of the work for my family member and friend; both had to hire other electricians to finish the job as they did not want to have to deal with Jack ever again.  I would highly recommend looking elsewhere for an electrician to avoid the huge hassle we all dealt with.
