We had sewer back up into our basement bathroom toilet and tub.
This is a VERY long story so I will spare you the details and try to get to point of this review.
It was a very long night of calling emergency after hour plumbers the FIRST night! The first plumber who came out literally didn't do anything to help us. In fact, while he was snaking the line (from the riser outside) he told us he could feel the root as the cable bucked back and he kept forcing it as it cut up the root. We went downstairs while he was doing this only to find the root his cable was bucking was actually the distal end of that pipe which lead back into the home and it was hitting the wall. We know nothing about plumbing but had to tell him that was indeed NOT a root but the wall and to please stop. Note: this was a random after hours plumber and NOT anyone from Colorado Sewer (we had not contacted Colorado Sewer yet; we were novices at wee midnight hours at this point!)
We literally went thru six plumbers (the next day) and the city actually came out to check the tap and the main (which we were told were not the problem). We had quotes of up to $10,000 from most saying our yard needed to be dug up and lines replaced because after all, we live in an 100 yr old house, right? What I learned in that 24hr period (and it was alot) is that old pipes may have a leak but probably have for 40yrs and that's ok. A crack doesn't need an entire yard excavation and entire line replacement. None of these issues were apparently our problem but not being the expert we truly didn't know.
We made it rain that day paying all these fools to again, snake the drain and give us their $5,000-10,000 quote to fix the problem. That is, until I spoke to an actual line repair person who recommended Colorado Sewer to jet it (I hope I am calling it the correct procedure; basically high pressure water to purge out the blockage, whatever it may be). I was also told they were less expensive, reasonable and trust worthy (at this point I was skeptical of everyone.)
I called Colorado Sewer and spoke with Shauna (who answered the phone). Wow...what a wealth of information she was. It seems to be important for a business to have their front line person be courteous and knowledgable (and in this case empathetic, which she was). They have that box checked with Shauna! She gave me the run down of the charges (wow...where have they been the last 24hr of my life?) They charge by 2 hr increments and it was the lowest we had been quoted for anything thus far.
The first young man came out who was SO nice and knowledgable. He worked endlessly for 2 hours AT LEAST. He then called for another co-worker to come assess the problem for the jetting. The second gentleman arrived, explained the situation (after again, working for another hour or more). The then returned with the equipment to jet the drain.
I literally wanted to cry and hug their necks when the blockage was removed in about 30 minutes and we, after 24hrs of not having functioning sewer (picture: no toilet flushing, no showers). The cost was reasonable (VERY reasonable) and I can't say enough positive things about this whole terrible experience!
Ok, so it wasn't THAT short of a story but still....
Give them a call if you have blockage issues in your sewer line. If nothing else, call them and they will be honest and tell you if they are the people for the job. You will not get taken advantage of when you're desperate and in a crisis.
THANK YOU Colorado Sewer for saving the (very long) day!
