ABOUT BUSINESS OWNER

I started my plumbing apprenticeship in 1997 and have worked in several areas of the plumbing field including new house construction, commercial, and industrial. The length of my career, and the field I enjoy the most, has been spent in residential service. I have worked for some of the largest corporate plumbing companies in the state of New York and Colorado and have seen the lack of customer service trend grow rapidly, while the rates charged to customers became inflated. This is what led to me opening Big Apple Plumbing LLC. I want to bring back the customer service aspect of plumbing coupled with affordable rates and truly develop lasting relationships with my customers, their families, and the community I call home.

I highly recommend Big Apple Plumbing and Heating. Our water heater broke, I called them on a Tuesday afternoon, they had a plumber out to my house first thing the next morning, and had a new water heater installed by Wednesday night. Plumbers Jacob, Disraeli, and Alec worked extremely hard to make sure everything was done properly and kept our house clean in the process. They all followed CDC guidelines to decrease any risk of COVID transmission. They were all very respectful, friendly, and easy to work with. I received two other quotes for the exact same water heater from other companies - one company gave an outrageously high quote, Big Apple's quote was equal to the third company's quote, but I got a better sense of professionalism and expertise with Big Apple. I couldn't be happier that I chose them. As an added bonus, the owner Jason is easy to communicate with and seems like a great guy. Thanks Big Apple Plumbing and Heating!

Jason addressed multiple plumbing issues we were having...from leaking outside faucets to an unstable toilet. He was knowledgeable, proficient, and did an excellent job. A few months later we had a small issue again with the bathroom drain and he came out and fixed it in a flash. Highly recommend.

These guys are the only guys I call for plumbing issues for my places.  They're dependable, I trust them,  reasonable,  and professional.  Gabriel took the time to follow all disenfecting best practices when entering... even when I forgot.  It was much appreciated. I call them every time.

Very professional service. The technician showed up on time and notified me ahead of time of his arrival. He fixed my issue and even gave me estimates for a few other things I needed done. I'm adjusting my initial review because this plumber is very expensive compared to another plumber I used at a later time.

This is my second time working with this company and both times have been great experiences.  Price is reasonable and the work is professional.  Both times I have had Alex Georgopoulos come out and he has been top notch.

I wanted to take a minute and leave a review for Jason Wilkat. I called Big Apple Plumbing and from the beginning Jason was very professional. He was already on a job but stayed in touch with me and provided his ETA. Once he arrived he reviewed the job and provided me with a quick solution. He's very personable and is definitely a master plumber. If you need plumbing work he's definitely the right guy for the job!

I was really worried I had a leak behind the wall of my sink. Alex was great and immediately eased my mind and told me it was just the pipes making noise with temperature changes. He assured me that there was no signs of water damage so nothing pointing to a leak in the wall. He talked to the master plumber the whole time throughout my visit to see if he agreed with his assessment and he did. He was very thorough with his inspection and I appreciate not being taken advantage of since I was expecting the worst with this leak. I will use them in the future with any plumbing needs!! Thank you!

Excellent!  These guys immediately responded to me in the Yelp app. They gave me an estimate and then an appointment the very next morning  (to which they were early).

Not only did Disraely, the technician, explain everything he was doing, he suggested I video the process on my phone if I wanted to flush my water heater myself.  Who is that nice anymore? I really appreciated that.

It only took an hour for the process, which involved a power flush and descaling of my inline water heater. This was what I was hoping for. I am blown away by the wonderful customer service.

He cleaned up and left the pump kit with me as well as the bottle for the descaling solution and suggested I could get it cheaply on Amazon. Holy cow!

The next time you need a plumbing/heating guy, call them!

Our toilet and dishwasher were broken just days after Thanksgiving. Jason came by during the holiday weekend and fixed both. He also changed out our shower head that we had previously purchased but not yet installed- at no charge. He was professional, personable and efficient.

I can't recommend this guy enough. This review won't even do this man justice. Jason came to my house and gave me an estimate and stuck to it. He did a nice job, he's clean and organized, and he's knowledgeable.

The one time I didn't use him, I actually used amazon home services. The plumber for amazon home services cut so many corners, we ended up with a leak that destroyed our cabinetry and floors. On top of that the amazon home services guy used our bathroom and left poo in the toilet. He dragged dirt all over our house and also he left a mess all over our house when he installed the water system.

Jason came out and wrote up his testament of what had happened and took care of the leak swiftly. Now that we have $10-30 thousand dollars worth of water damage we have learned our lesson. A) never use amazon home services b) always use a five star plumber and that's what Jason is a five star plumber.

My review is longer than most. I cannot be stopped.

We had a leaking hot water heater and a leaking drain in our bath tub. I called and Jason was friendly and helpful in letting me know what it would cost me right up front. He also outlined all my choice and did not pressure me. We were also working with our home warranty company who allowed me to hire out my own contractor which required lots of hoops to jump through. Jason was patient with the process and was happy to help me out with whatever I needed. Disareli did most of the installation and was friendly and prompt. He covered the warranty of the hot water heater as well as answered any questions that I had. The area was left exactly the way it was before any work was done. Overall great experience. I will definitely use Big Apple Plumbing in the future for any plumbing needs as well as recommend them.

I really don't have a bad to thing to say about Jason.  He came recommended by another plumbing company (that I got off of Yelp but have not yet had a chance to hire) who were too booked to come out.
He was scheduled for around 2pm but was able to come earlier and called in advance to see if this were possible.  I was sure happy about that because we apparently had a considerable leak happening.  Which Jason ended up determining was actually two leaks where very old solders were failing.  He not only described to me what was happening and why, showed me the old pipes and the corrosion that resulted.  These pipes lead to our tankless water heater.

We were also quite concerned as we have had other plumbers, electricians, etc comment on the horrible installation someone did on this water heater.  We learned after we bought this house that a friend of the previous owners had installed it.  I asked Jason what he thought, so he described in detail the various issues with the installation, as well as problems that could come up in the future as a result.  What I really liked is that he didn't try to trick, scare or talk me into getting expensive work done.  He just gave me the facts to let us determine what we should do when the time comes or when we can afford it.
I felt he charged a reasonable price for the work done in our horrible crawl space.
That's the other thing I liked - I have had many tradesmen down there for installations and repairs, and some complained about the crawlspace (nothing I can do about it), but not Jason.  I sure appreciated that.  He even commented that they give folks a way to save money.

I will definitely call on Jason again - he seems fair, knowledgeable, and his rates are reasonable.
Thanks Jason!

I had to turn the water off to my house because of a leaking pipe. Big Apple was at my house within 4 hours to repair the broken shower valve. Disraeli and James were nice, knowledgeable, did a great job, and even cleaned up after themselves. I hope to never need emergency plumbing services again but if I do, I would definitely call Big Apple.

Had Big Apple install our water system. It was time to change filter, but the casing was on too tight for us to loosen. Jason sent one of his wonderful, knowledgeable and polite young men, and poof it was loosened. He showed us how to lubricate it to avoid problems next time, but to call if we needed anything. No charge!!!!  Totally recommend

My wife and I can't stop talking about the professionalism from these guys, sent a photo and text of the tech coming. Put my mind at ease about who will be in my house. Direct communication from the tech about options and what the potential situation was (although we believed to know already) went the most direct route to find a clog in our master sink/toilet/shower drain that connected together in our basement. Jacob did a great job snaking  the drain and resetting our toilet. Gave us his straightforward concerns about potential for pipe replacement but didn't try to oversell us once we got the problem fixed. Much appreciated, straightforward, fair price for the professionalism we experienced. We will be calling these folks in the future if the need arises.

I called Big Apple Plumbing about a week ago to set up an appointment for a freeze broken pipe fix. Jason knew exactly what the problem was after describing it over the phone. I accidentally left the hose on the tap when we got the first freeze of winter, and burst the pipe.  I'm a DIYer in most things, but it was clear I was over my head with this, so I went looking for a plumber.  Big Apple had good reviews, so they were my first choice.  I couldn't be more happy with my choice.
Scheduling service was ridiculously easy.  I requested a quote through Yelp, and within minutes I was chatting with a representative about my problem.  He dropped a fair quote on the spot and scheduled a visit for the first thing the next morning.
The technician, Jacob, was extremely courteous and professional.  He arrived on time in a COVID mask, got the information he needed, and was done with the work in no time.
The repair cost was exactly as quoted, with no hidden fees or upsells.

I had a water heater problem so needed to find repair/replace options.  I discovered Big Apple and was able to speak with Jason who found time on the schedule the same day to have this addressed.  Gabriel was the technician that arrived and he is amazing.  Very polite, very knowledgeable, and I feel very honest.  Rates were not the cheapest but I believe fair and representative of the type of work needed.  The quality of Gabriel's work is top notch.  I will use them again in the future.

Great service. Not only was Jason, the owner, very responsive and happily answered all my questions, the price was very reasonable. Another cool feature is that before your appointment they text you the picture and name of the plumber showing up. I've never had that happen before and as a woman it made me feel much safer. Disreali our plumber was quick, friendly and efficient. I highly recommend their services

They charged me $400 to do 15 minutes of work, probably less. But I guess it was worth it since they had to run to Home Depot for the $10 part. ‍ When I asked how much to finish installing the sink, he quoted me around $1000. I said no and it took ME, someone with zero experience, 20 minutes to complete the job.

I had already removed and disconnected the old floating sink. I had just lost all motivation when I hit a snag so he saved me but yeah, next time I will take a breather and try again. Lol.

Called at 5 pm on a Saturday about an awful smell that had been coming from under the kitchen sink for over a week.  I had tried every possible internet remedy for a foul smell coming from the pipes but nothing worked.  Jason asked me to text a picture of the plumbing below the kitchen sink and he diagnosed it and gave me a simple solution to the problem that I could fix myself and avoid the expensive cost of an in home weekend service call.
Thank you so much!!

My husband and I had a bad experience with this company. Our hot water heater broke. We called a friend in the roofing/construction business and he recommended this company. The tech who came out was very nice and did his job. We were shocked at the price at which we were told was their baseline price to remove, pick up and install a new water heater. The tech called his boss who is the president of the company. All we were trying to do was have him break down the charge of $2,000. We just wanted to know how they arrive at this number. He was short, rude, dismissive and not at all willing to work with us. He then proceeded to text and call his tech repeatedly to get him to go to another job. We heard him even though he wasn't on speaker, telling his tech to leave our house. They didn't need our business. Whatever. Bottomline it was POOR customer service. We got another company out here and they did the job at 1/2 the price. They were super friendly and they didn't need a permit as the owner of Big Apple said they needed. So I will never use this company and I will make sure to tell everyone how rude and dismissive the President of the company was.

We had a compression valve under our bathroom sink that wouldn't stop dripping. I tried to replace it myself but it was STUCK. No amount of strength would get that thing off. So I tried to reassemble it, but now it leaked a lot more since I fussed with it. So I couldn't open the main water valve without some serious flow from under the sink. Now I'm in a pinch. So I called Big Apple since they had great reviews on yelp. A technician, Disraeli, was able to come by within about 40 minutes (this was a Sunday evening).

Disraeli was great, very friendly, professional and understanding. His work was flawless as well. For that I'm definitely grateful.

Jason, the owner, was focused on making sure we were satisfied customers. He made sure that the service was provided at fair price. This really helps us while being in such a pinch.

TLDR- helped within the hour on a Sunday, didn't charge us an arm and a leg for it.

I am responding to the comment the owner made to my comment.   I can understand his anger if he thought I threatened his business manager.   But I did not threaten his business manager.  I did say that I felt the price was unreasonable and I wanted to discuss the charge with the owner.  The price was much too high for an hour's worth of work.   I think $400/hour is too high for plumbing work.  I think they should have charge a lot less ($150/hour seems reasonable).  We never got to this discussion because he started yelling at me right away.

I was really happy with Big Apple service. The technician they sent, Disraeli, was exceptional and explained everything, gave me options, and didn't push me to buy anything or any service.  The work I ended up having done was a leaky bathroom faucet that has been fixed twice before by amateurs of course the repairs didn't last. He also replaced a poor valve in the main waterline that I asked him to look at.  He came the first day I was available in the morning and I had everything fixed before noon.    I have to to do the garbage disposal replaced it by myself, since I already bought the parts, and He gave me some free advice on a garbage disposal replacement. I am definitely considering Big Apple my new plumber.

Big Apple just finished up two major jobs for us, including re-piping an entire house and service line. Gabriel and his team were fantastic! I awoke at 4am to the sound no homeowner wants to hear, running water.  My 60 year old copper water piping had sprung a pinhole leak in the basement(luckily in the unfinished part). I called Jason at 5am who was very cordial despite the early hour. He said he would have a plumber to my home by 9am and true to his word at 8:59 Alex arrived. In less than an hour he had removed and replaced the 2 foot leaking pipe with no hiccups.

Alex was very pleasant to work with and explained every step of the operation as he went. A man has got to know his limitations and mine is sweat soldering, Alex's is not. No leaks on the first try.

I had a leak fixed by another company 4 years ago and felt I was robbed due the exorbitant price and even though Big Apple wasn't cheap it was better than the prior plumbing experience I'd had. I would recommend Big Apple to anyone, they are honest, punctual and efficient. Thanks guys you made a bad start to my day much better.

I needed to have a drain line added to my basement for the washing machine. After getting an estimate, Gabriel came. He was very good and respectful, masks and booties for the floor. I was concerned as the drain trap wasn't mentioned on the order, and I wanted to make sure that it was done to code.
When he was finished, I was impressed. He had to cut into a 5 cast iron drain line and splice in the new drain line, then he needed to attach it to the concrete wall.  No mess left over!!
It looks very good and professional, I was very pleased. I  give Big Apple a big A. (Sorry I couldn't resist.)
I have used BA maybe 5 times so far and am very pleased.

There was water coming from the PVC pipe of my tankless water heater and I contacted Big Apple and they got me in the next day.

Disraeli arrived and assessed the situation and provided me a quote that was considerably higher than I was expecting and I couldn't afford. After speaking with the office he was able to reduce it some but still anxiety inducing. He asked me a price I would be comfortable with and I suggested it, he called the office again and it was approved! THANK YOU!

He didn't have the part and had to go pick it up and drove all the way into Denver to finally find it. It was fixed that same day and he even showed me how to flush my own tank (that I guess you should do annually).

Highly recommend! Thank you Disraeli!

You're not going to find a better plumber to work with in Colorado! I discovered Jason via Yelp and figured I'd give him a try based on the good reviews...and I'm so happy I did!

As a first time home buyer, I have used Jason to install a gas line for my range, water line for my fridge, sink install, and most importantly to bring my sump pump up to code (and have him scheduled for more work). He is always courteous, kind, and has a few good jokes up his sleeve. He asks me to review and approve all of his work before leaving my house, and teaches me tips along the way. I especially appreciate how quick he is to respond to my calls.

One morning while Jason was installing my gas range, I went into the basement to discover that my sump pump had failed and the basement was flooded. Jason immediately switched gears to help with the flood and stuck around while I waited for the sewer company to arrive. Jason stayed the entire time the sewer guy was at my house. When the sewer company left he pulled me aside and said, I just wanted to stick around to make sure that guy didn't try to sell you something you didn't need. He was there for two hours and didn't charge me for the time. If that doesn't speak to a good, compassionate person, I don't know what does! Thank you for helping me get my first home in ship shape and brightening my day Jason!

They responded quickly and are transparent in their pricing, but I recommend getting a second quote before moving forward with any work. There are much less expensive options out there... I paid $500 for them to try to thaw my frozen pipes (despite that the tech wasn't actually able to thaw them). I then called a different plumber, who successfully thawed the pipes and charged only $250.

Though I obviously had a choice, I'm disappointed in how much I overpaid for Big Apple. I wasn't going to write a review, but both my general contractor and the other plumber were shocked at the price I paid... so I felt that I should share this experience and remind people to get another quote!

Very happy with Jason and Big Apple Plumbing.  I had a leak going on behind the shower wall with the tub diverter.  Jason came out Saturday morning to take a look, and gave a thorough recommendation and a couple of options.  The work was completed that same day, with a brand new brand of tub/shower system installed since what I had was very hard to service in general. Jason also took the time to tell me some tips for the future, to avoid having to call a plumber again and save money.

The cost was competitive, though plumbers always seem expensive to me! That said, worth it to know I have found a go-to plumbing service I trust in my area.

I'm not the handiest dude in the world, so when I tried and failed to replace a shower cartridge, I called these guys. When I asked for a quote, the gentleman on the phone very patiently explained what I was doing wrong, and how to proceed correctly. Unbelievable. I called to ask for help and they refused to help me with my service.

The person I spoke with hung up on me in the middle of my sentence.  I had a simple request to have a service call to look at some leaking pipes-- a simple job.

I called back to ask for the source of confusion. He promptly used the F word in his response to me.

I hung up at that point and felt inspired to write this review. I have never had a person I just met speak to me that way.  Pretty unreal that a professional business would hang up on me, use obscenities, and refuse to answer my calls or take my job. Terrible company!

Edited: Don't be fooled by Jason's poor defense on the situation. He even wrote me another angry message directly after our altercation. I treat everyone with respect and would never lie to hurt a business intentionally or out of spite. This man has anger issues and treated me with the disrespect that warranted this review.

Our upstairs shower leaked water down to our first floor right before the holidays and before a large storm. I called Big Apple Plumbing and they were incredibly responsive, transparent on pricing and were able to come the next morning at 9am. This business was the first I called to set up to deal with a leak under the kitchen faucet. To their credit they were timely and coronavirus aware in what they did. We paid $39 for the appointment which was fine but could not go ahead with the job. Turns out we needed a new kitchen faucet and what we were quoted was just way too high at least in my opinion. Even our buying a faucet from Lowe's and needing it installed was too high for us. We had to use someone else for the install and in doing so saved over $100. Still we appreciated that the fellow who came pinpointed the problem and did give us options. However we could not proceed with them to finish the task primarily because the cost was more then expected. We used another service and it all worked out for us.

My water heater broke and flooded our crawl space. Jason was out to look at the issue and was able to get a new one installed the same day. I didn't shop the job to anyone else because it needed to get done ASAP, so I can't comment on the cost since I don't know what anyone else would have charged.

We had a split in our copper piping that led to our outdoor faucet.  Made an online appt, it was scheduled, communicated and a new faucet was installed as per the scheduled appointment and the cost was per the special on freeze-less faucets they were running.  Very professional and on time.   Disraeli was professional from the start!  I would recommend using Big Apple Plumbing.

This is my second experience with Big Apple and I couldn't be happier with the results.  I talked to Jason Friday morning, sent him pictures of the water valves in question and he scheduled Disraeli to come out today to fix the issue.  Disraeli was running early, so he politely called and asked if it would be a problem to show up earlier than our appointment.  He gave me a time and he was knocking on my door at that exact time.  Disraeli explained what he was doing, didn't mind me asking questions and got my water pressure to a normal level instead of the low pressure I had been dealing with.  I paid exactly what Jason had quoted me over the phone on Friday.  I am a very happy customer and would not hesitate to recommend Big Apple Plumbing and Heating!  Jason was very polite, gave me the correct fix to my problem and an accurate quote.  Disraeli is awesome!!  He didn't dawdle, was very tidy and was an all around great guy.  Definite 5 star rating from this happy customer!!

I would not recommend this company. They charge a $39 fee to come out and give you a price. The prices they quote are outrageous for the work to be done. Find a company that will quote their services without a fee. This really felt like a scam.

I did short notice call, The staff (Jacob) who visited my home were professional and knowledgeable. When scope of project expanded due to hidden problems they were able to arrange for additional staff to come the same day. I was impressed by the quality of the equipment that they had access to on short notice. I liked everything except the prices, its not too high but could little bit less.

Had a new hot water heater installed.  After installation the hot water taps spit gas and hot water.  They were gonna charge me $500 for a new anode rod to fix the problem.  Are you kidding me?  So they comped that repair which I guess is why I'm giving them two stars.  After that was fixed our both his&hers hot water faucets dropped water pressure by 80%.  They said the issue was corrosion in the faucet handle mechanism and wanted around $1,000 to replace them.  But this makes no sense as the cold water faucets were still working well and both hot water taps going out at the same time isn't coincidence it's correlation.  Obviously their work caused detritus that clogged the supply line.  They denied this and refused to drain and flush the supply line.  Then just walked away.  I was professional throughout and tipped quite well and was blown away by their lack of acknowledgement.  Now we have hot water, but our tank is no longer under warranty because they did a repair on it, and our master bathroom hot water sinks aren't functioning properly.  Far from ideal.

Jason, pick up your phone!  Literally this weeks long process was managed by me calling and leaving messages waiting for him to call back.  Not once did he actually pick up one of my rings from the outset.  This is a big red flag.  If he can't be bothered to pick up your phone call, call another service who hopefully will be more responsive.

Gabriel, don't just walk away from a customer when they're trying to have a conversation about the source of the problem.  Dude literally walked out of my house and to his truck when I tried to explain my reasoning and left before I could offer to split the cost of the supply line flush.  Your intern heard me offer this as you walked away.  Pity this young dude had to act like more of an adult than you.

Great Service! To start, Jason was very responsive and clear about the timing and the price I would expect for an emergency call, which by the way, was reasonable for all they did for us. 2 positive experiences now. Jason diagnosed our basement issue, leaking wetbar and we had to tear it all out. Came out on a Sunday I want to say as well. Now just had Disraeli come out from Big Apple and correctly diagnose and repair a cracked sprinkler back flow pipe. Did great work and made a limited size hole in basement ceiling which will allow us to put an access panel to cover the hole rather than a ton of work. Disraeli worked quick and efficient, communicated well and pricing was fair.

I have dealt with several plumbing companies in the passed few months for various reasons, Big Apple Plumbing was by far the best experience I have had. Just had a very positive experience with Big Apple Plumbing and Heating.  Called yesterday and Jason the owner picked right up.  He was able to come by today to look at our issue and had one of his crew (Disraeli) come by to do the work this afternoon.
We had just bought this house and there were a pair of water supply lines were sticking too far out of the wall to accommodate a new vanity that we were trying to install.  Because they were coming out of the wall on a curve (rather than straight out as is normal and correct), we had to have Big Apple break into the wall and rebuild the lines so the would come out at right angles. We had them do this for another bathroom as well, since we were going to be purchasing a new vanity for that as well and didn't want to take any chances, since the lines were sticking out quite far.
Anyway... Disraeli was friendly and professional and did a great job for us.
Thanks, Big Apple!

I checked Yelp prior to calling Big Apple (BA) plumbing. I needed installation help with a new laundry room sink, a new kitchen garbage disposal and a new kitchen faucet. I was advised the original BA plumber was diverted to assist a colleague with a flat tire. Cody arrived an hour later.
He subsequently provided an estimate for the work. The quote was expensive. It may be competitive...difficult to know when you call a plumber once a year or so. I was thinking of rejecting the quote but a slight discount was subsequently applied and I accepted.
Cody knows his trade. He went right to work. He replumbed the laundry room sink, and successfully installed the disposal and faucet. He cleaned up his work areas and was friendly and professional throughout. I recommend Cody from Big Apple Plumbing.

We had a spontaneous leak in our kitchen with extensive damage to hardwoods, basement, carpet, etc. We found Jason/Big Apple Plumbing on Yelp and we were thrilled when he answered his phone right away, heard us out and got out to take a look within a half hour!

It turns out we had a hose that was busted so we didn't need any big plumbing repairs today, but Jason gave us a quote for what we could repair down the road to get our insta-hot (the source of the leak) up and running again, and also gave us a name for someone to work on our cabinets if need be-someone he himself had come out to work on his house!

I would highly recommend Jason and Big Apple Plumbing to anyone looking for quick, friendly and responsive plumbing and heating services.

I never recommend going with any company that won't quote anything over the phone, except their Dispatch fee. The gal that answered my call was Symara (not sure if I spelled that correctly). She quoted me $69 just to have someone come out, but then said the fee is waived if I agree to their quote and have them start immediately. High pressure sales tactic...RED FLAG #1.

When I asked Symara if the Dispatch fee included them doing anything, such as putting a video camera down a drain, so we can see what's what in the main sewer line for the quote? She said it did not...RED FLAG #2.

When I asked Symara the price to put a video camera down a drain to show us the issue(s), I'm not sure what happened next, but it seemed she either put me on hold, on mute, or hung up. I stayed on the line for another 10 mins. in case I was on hold and she was getting a price for me, but after 10 mins. she didn't come back on the line. So, I hung up. RED FLAG #3.

Someone named Miriam did call me back, saying we were talking earlier, but had a bad connection, so the call dropped, but I never heard the phone ring. Also, I'm sure the woman I had spoken to previously said her name was Symara (I'd asked her 3x to be sure, then written it down), not Miriam, and I didn't get the voice message until many hours later, either. Too late.

So, no, the Dispatch fee doesn't include actually doing or LOOKING at anything. It's charged for the tech to drive to the job, plus gas for the van/truck, even if I only lived 1/2 mile from their shop (but I don't). They'll do nothing to earn that fee, other than to show up at the door and knock or ring the doorbell, then want the contract signed for the fee you, or someone else, agreed to on a [supposedly] recorded line.

Who knows what they'd charge to just walk around the house, or to snake a video camera down a drain to see what the job requires to produce the quote? All I could gather is: it'll will cost even MORE money to produce the quote, and that's before the job would even start. I'm moving on...

These guys are beyond amazing!! 3 months ago, my basement started flooding every time I used my washer.  I finally gave up on trying to use a snake, and used Yelp  to find the highest rated plumbing service. I am still amazed at how lucky I got, and how wonderful these guys are. Jason answered my first phone call, although it was after hours, and said they could set up an appointment as quickly as I needed. Gabriele was at my house first thing the next morning, brought a scope, and quickly determined it was a collapsed pipe. I have had a few other companies in the past come and snake the same pipe, and leave with no explanation for the flooding besides tree roots. Big apple is the only company that brought the necessary equipment to properly diagnose the problem. What I thought would be a quick fix, turned into black mold, asbestos, and a large home owners insurance claim. While I went through the 2 month mitigation process, Jason was very responsive and assured me that he would make me a first priority on their schedule. Once things were cleared, Alex & Gabriele showed early the next morning (on a Friday no less), thinking the collapsed pipe could be taken care of quickly. Little did we know that most of my basement would be in the same shape. They worked continuously for 16 HOURS to fix everything!!! I have no words to say how grateful I am to Big Apple Plumbing, and what a pleasure it was to work with all of them. Amazing doesn't even do their service justice. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I will always recommend this company, and am a lifelong customer. Thank

They wanted to charge me $247 for a diagnostic fee, which was in addition to the $89 service fee I had already agreed to pay. Every single plumber/electrician/tradesman I've ever worked with included inspection and diagnosis as part of this service fee.

They quoted $600 for a simple garbage disposal replacement, in addition to some other crazy marked up prices. Total scam with inflated prices.

EDIT: After this post he started emailing me calling me a liar, slumlord, etc. Not professional in the slightest, and really solidified my choice not to hire  them.

Decided to replace shower cartridge and handle myself, when doing so my hot water heater wouldn't light. I called Big Apple late on a Sunday and they had a technician, Alex G, out to my house scheduled at 9AM. Alex showed up at 8:45, early (amazing!) and fixed my issue in 10 minutes for a small very reasonable fee. I am so glad I called Big Apple. We had a pipe burst and had to shut off the main line inlet, so no showers, sinks or toilets. They not only came out on the same day, they met the appointment time. I sent out several calls and Jason was the first to respond. I had an outside faucet put in last summer for my patio area and when I turned it on of course it was cracked. I think the guy that put it in got the cheapest one he could find. It wasn't a particularly cold winter this year (2015-2016). Jason showed up the next day (early) and had it replaced along with fixing the leak in my kitchen sink in about an hour. He also put in a shut off valve so I could turn if off next winter to avoid the same cracking problem. Wonder why the first plumber didn't suggest that? The work was excellent. Next plumbing problem I have, he's the first one I'm calling. I've had several half-ass jobs done in the past. This was solid.

Had a very good experience with Big Apple. Jason was very helpful in problem solving to fix areas that can freeze in my crawlspace. I'm an engineer so I appreciate intelligent contractors. Also, I had a number of plumbing questions in my aging house that he helped me understand.  I.E. A good resource .
In spite of having to crawl on his knees in my crawlspace, he was quick (He and co-worker took only 1 hour to replace 2 shutoffs and drains) and less cost than I had expected.
My job was not an emergency but he was satisfactorily responsive and held to his estimate. Will definitely use again.

While I really enjoyed the response time and the availability for questions over the phone, I was not impressed with the surprise of fees and costs. I was told a $69 trip fee would be assessed and knew a military discount would be applied. After that time an estimate would be provided. However, upon arrival, we were supplied with an estimate on what WE as the homeowners thought the problem was. If we wanted the plumber, the professional who actually knows plumbing, to do a diagnostic and tell us what the problem is and what the costs would be to fix, we would need to pay over $200. Not good business in my book.

Big Apple Plumbing saved me A THOUSAND dollars on a Water Heater today!!! I had an estimate from Priority Plumbing for an install/ take away of a water heater( generic brand)He would give a one year guarantee. $3588.00 the technician was dismissive and intimidating- telling me it had to be done immediately. I said no thanks and I got a second opinion. I called Big Apple Plumbing and told him everything.
Big Apple Plumbing (Jason) came in, installed an American brand Water Heater/ took out the old one gave us a safety pan underneath and full clean up (On a SATURDAY) for $2600 TOTAL! While the the work was satisfactory, I just want to warn potential customers that the hourly rate for basic plumbing (no equipment purchased) is approximately $300. That's not the overtime rate - actually, Sunday's are $450 an hour. That means if all you need is a little help getting a piece of plastic back in place in your toilet tank, you will be charged $300 at a minimum. I recently moved from Manhattan, where we can agree most everything is more expensive, and this estimate was 2x what I anticipated. If this is a standard rate for Denver that's news to me - but buyer beware.

I was dealing with a leaky faucet, turned constantly running faucet, that rapidly developed into a frustrating ordeal with my HOA. Jason came out quickly after my initial contact, but was unable to help due to the aforementioned HOA confusion. No charge for that trip, which was a pleasant surprise.

A day or so later after some clarification as to what was up with my valves and having them turned off, Jason came out again and was able to complete the faucet repair at a very fair price (less than half of what the HOA's plumber of choice quoted). He accommodated my schedule and was able to get the job done when I was at work. By far the most pleasant home maintenance experience I've had. I'll certainly be calling him again for my next plumbing ordeal and will happily refer him out to friends!

An hour into Big Apple's plumber attempting to clear a mainline clog it was clear something was very wrong, so I was googling to try and educate myself on what might be going on. That was when I came across an SFGate article that said a competent plumber would ask if the home had a clean-out, and remembered why I didn't remember prior plumbers pulling the toilet to clear a clog. Something seemed off when he asked where to put the toilet before starting work, so I had asked if removing the toilet was the best way to do the job, but even that question did not promot the plumber to ask about a clean out. Too bad he didn't because the entire encounter was disastrous.
He didnt use the clean out. He sent the snake up the vent, but didn't know it. He couldn't get a camera in the system. When I remembered there was a clean-out, he couldn't see the snake in the mainline, and lied about why he couldn't see it. He lied that the snake would have broken through the vent pipe in the attic if it was in the vent, and we would see it. Long story short, he spent much of the event on the phone with his boss since he didn't know what he was doing. He cut the snake off when I told him I didn't agree to that step. He said he would send a crew the next day to dig up the mainline. I said no.

Turns out every plumber that answered my query on their forum in Reddit agrees, the plumber was responsible for asking about a clean-out, after all, he, not I, ams supposed to be the expert.

Next day, the plumber from a diff company successfully got the the camera into the pipe, saw the snake, which was hanging off my roof. The blockage was cleared in minutes.

I asked the owner to call...he didn't. Then I emailed to dispute the invoice he sent instead. That was what prompted him to call...after the third time he talked over me and called my dear, I asked him to stop being condescending, at which point he literally scarted screaming at me, yelling profanities, and threatening me. It was impossible to come to a mutually agreeable conclusion to the completely botched, inept and failed efforts of his incompetent employee because of his refusal to let me speak...he would hear nothing of what I said, insisted I agreed the work was satisfactory (I had actually refused to sign that part of the plumber's documentation).
This company failed on every front, and cared only about making a profit despite their ineptitude. Buyer beware.

UPDATE: having read the owner's response, I will point out his lies.  1) the plumber never looked around for a clean-out.  Yes, it was under landscaping, but that is why he should have asked.  Yes, it was after dark, but there are several floodlight in my yard and it was clearly lit.  I did not call his office, I emailed and he responded.  I did not complain about the price, although before I found out their ineptitude caused the problem I did ask why they wanted to charge me $400 for snake that is readily available online for significantly less money.  But once I knew their errors caused the whole problem, and because I did not agree to them cutting the snake.  Additionally, their documentation says if the snake is trapped or damaged in the swere line the customer would be responsible, but they NEVER put ot in the sewer line, and if their plumber understood he should have seen it in the cleanout or knew how to get a camera in the pipe, they never would have cut it.  Ask any plumber...read Reddit...it was their job to ask about a cleanout and not assume the customer is going to remember or direct them as to the best way to do the work.  If he want his snake back, its laying behind my shed.  I never threatened him with negative reviews, and even if I had tried he was so busy screaming profanities at me he wasn't hearing anything I was saying.  He can try to send me to collections, but so far I have not heard from collections, but if ai do I will tell them it is under dispute.  Just because he says he will only gives facts doesnt mean he did.  He took advantage of the situation, the late hour, sent an unqualified employee, and acted like an oaf and bully.

Just purchased a home and had a leak coming from our copper waterline pipe connected to our fridge. We placed an emergency after-hours call which was $140 just to get someone out there. I was warned in advance about this, so, fair enough.

Our plumber, Gabriel, arrived and was pleasant, polite and friendly. Unfortunately, this is where the positivity ends. He spent the entire time looking at our waterline in the basement and assessing how much it would cost to replace the entire thing - instead of focusing on the leak problem which was up by our fridge. I felt like he spent all his time figuring out how to upcharge us on the job instead of focusing on the actual problem. He quoted me at $1,000 to fix the problem properly. I asked him to send me some estimates and we'd decide what to do next day.

My wife's grandpa and dad are both handymen and know a fair amount about plumbing and said the estimate provide was incredibly outrageous for the problem. We ended contacting another plumber and they did exactly what Gabriel was proposing but for $100 flat.

Do not be deceived by the friendly customer service - they are just looking to rip you off. I understand the job may slightly vary in price, but charging 10x the actual cost is inexcusable.

I had a slow drain in my basement due to roots growing in a main drain pipe heading out to the street. Protip: Don't plant huge trees over ground that has PVC pipes in it. I'm a Realtor and see this far too often. Big Apple booked us for the next day and showed up on time with great communication through texts. I knew there was an $89 service fee. The technician decided the pipe needed to be snaked, as suspected. The quote was $430, which seemed higher than I've paid before, but I knew I already had the $89 required fee and just wanted to get the work done. After a long list of legal disclaimers claiming no responsibility for anything that happens and no guarantee of effectiveness, he spent about an hour clearing out some roots and the drain is working better. Looking back on the last 3 times I had this service done several years before, I paid $125 and $200 for the same service. Not sure why Big Apple charges such ridiculous rates. Perhaps they require their plumbers to have a law degree so they can properly read off all the disclaimers? $430 for an hour of work (with our help carrying heavy equipment) is just stupid and I'll definitely call someone else next time any of our homes need work done. Why not just charge an hourly fee like independent plumbers charge?! I've added the previous companies to my Contacts so I don't make this mistake again. Shop around, because when you're faced with the quote knowing you're already in $89 you'll probably make the same decision I did, and regret it. Sure I signed off on the work when it was done, because what choice did I have? Doesn't mean the pricing isn't stupid ridiculously high for an hour of work, even with travel time (Westminster to Broomfield) and your fully stocked truck. $430 for one hour?

We needed our main sewer line snaked. They came out the same day and did a good job. The line was fixed. However, I will agree with other reviews and say I felt the repair was a bit over priced. The tech noticed other things that needed to be fixed but the price to fix all 3 things was not at all within a reasonable price.

I called Big Apple Plumbing and Heating because the hot water heater at a rental house I manage was not producing anything beyond barely lukewarm water. I was impressed that they were able to get someone out to the house in the same business day that I called, but that was all I was impressed with. Jason, who answered the phone upon my initial call, jumped straight to the question, Do you need a new heater? Not knowing the issue with my current heater, I explained that I'd like someone to look at it to tell me why it wasn't doing its job. Upon the technician coming out to the property, Jason called me back. He said, The problem is your hot water heater is running out of hot water really quickly. Well, yes, that's why I called for help in the first place. I had to prod him for what was the root of the problem, to which he replied with a great sense of haughtiness, Well, it could be that your hot water heater is this so-and-so brand, which sucks, it's 9 years old and probably full of sediment. I felt like Jason was speaking to me as if I was a child who was in trouble. Then, the only solution he provided was, Well, you need a new heater. When I responded with how he made me feel on the phone call (politely, mind you), he told me I needed to call another service. Rather than educating me through what the issue was and why it would be better and more effective to replace the current hot water heater with a new one, he made me feel like I was an idiot who was demanding the world when all I asked for was more of an explanation than, Your hot water heater is running out of hot water quickly. What a terrible experience. I own several homes around Denver, and I will NOT be using this service to help with ANY of them.

Update to my review: Jason just called me back to ask me about this review (within minutes of me posting it), and when I politely stood by everything I had written above, he told me that I was a terrible person, twice. Quote: You are a terrible person. You are a TERRIBLE person. You have a great life. I am truly speechless.

Second update to my review: Jason's account of our interaction is untruthful, misrepresented, and conveyed in the same, defensive tone with which he spoke to me on the phone after I asked him what was wrong with the water heater. I asked questions on the call because he did not provide an explanation of what wasn't working before telling me I needed a new one. I was never rude; just honest that I felt like he wasn't being upfront with me. That seems to be what set him off. The account of his follow-up call upon me posting this accurate review is verbatim what was said to me. I will not be bullied into taking down this review. User: take heed.

I woke up on Saturday morning to the sound of running water on my patio and after trying and failing to get it to stop I decided I was going to have to find a plumber to come fix it. I lucked out when I happened across Big Apple Plumbing. I called and talked to Jason and he was at my house within 20 minutes and the issue was resolved for a fair price in under a couple hours. Next time I need plumbing help, I'm definitely calling Big Apple Plumbing again.

Do not use this company!  prices are 3 times more than any other company.
The company was professional and everyone was nice. However, the price gushing is ridiculous. It cost over $900 (that's with the 10% discount) for a shower knob to be fixed and water pressure to be analyzed for another issue that was not fixed. I provided the parts for the shower knob so this is all labor for an hour and a half.  I know the owner is going to reply that they discussed the price before moving forward. However, it was not discussed until they arrived. Which means, I either pay them $1,000 or $100 for them to walk away and then I have to find another company to come out. That's not really a choice. Plus, my decision was based on the problem being fixed. Only one problem was fixed, the other was not but still was charged

Although the price point was too high for my current situation the information was good to have as I continue to get quotes and fix my water heater issues. I will say though that I'm glad I kept my yelp conversation with the owner offering the free consultation, as the technician tried to charge me a consultation fee after I said let me get some more quotes, but he was nice enough to honor the messages with the owner.

Worst experience. The guy came to my house did not even try to see why my pipe was clogged, he shined a flashlight on it then told me he would snake it for $353 dollars.
When I asked what would happen if it was still happening tomorrow, I was told nothing would happen, it's not there problem if it works after or not.  Why would you not try and see what the actual problem is?
He then had an attitude the whole time, refused to answer my questions. I had to call the office and they told me if it was not working tomorrow and it was the same issue they would send someone out again at no cost. Then the owner called me and said no they would not send someone out at no cost that they don't guarantee pipes. My issue with that is why wouldn't you even try and figure out why it is not working.
The guy who was in my house walked out while I was asking him questions, just walked out and ignored me. He also while in my home took his shoe covering off when I asked him not to.

All around horrible customer service, the owner could care less that his employees had an attitude or was giving out incorrect information.
Go somewhere else with better customer service.

Update: Great to know that they can provide horrible customer service and treat you badly and still try and charge you,
Already have another plumber coming out and will actually come back out if the job is not fixed at no extra charge. Again go somewhere else that cares about customers not just ripping you off.
Also the price was not a problem, it was the fact you could screw up the job and not be held responsible. That is the problem.  This place is a scam, I agreed to pay a fee to come out and look at the issue. That was not done.

The Owner is more concerned with arguing with you then fixing the customer service. Just look at all the other bad reviews, same issue I am having......

Called to speak with someone about adding 8 instahot type faucets/sinks in my house. All of a sudden I felt like I was buying a used car. The gal on the phone says, ok so let me tell you how we work, first of all we charge a $49.99 trip fee before any work is performed. I immediately was taken back by them trying to sell a service call inside of actual work. She didn't even know if they did the type of service and I was already getting the pitch. She also says, this isn't California anymore after mentioning they didn't have that out there where we moved from. Seems like the plumbing industry might need some better regulation. This review is my opinion only.

Edit: Owner called me to explain why their structure is setup to charge upfront. Although we are not a good fit for this type of plumber, it is possible it may fit another type of client. Updated stars to 2 stars because of the call, and the owner was friendly.

Edit 2 (after owner replied): If you are selling a new system like an ion exchange system or a Halo5 system, or if a client is wanting to get a hot water recirculating system to achieve an instant hot effect on all faucets, you should probably have a product knowledge guru that also specializes in customer service come out. Not necessarily a plumber who in some cases may not have the personality to discuss products with clients as efficiently and effectively. To charge every client with a service fee, isn't smart business in my opinion.

We've had this company out to our house a few times now, most recently to help us figure out a leak coming from our swamp cooler hookup outside. Apparently all we needed was a washer on the stupid thing and even though we could have been charged, Jason graciously did it for free. Even better, he showed us how to winterize the unit ourselves so we don't have to spend $175 each year to do it. We will absolutely continue to use Big Apple Plumbing and recommend them to anyone! They're reliable, fair and all around great to work with.

My call was answered immediately on a Saturday afternoon. My issue was a newly discovered water leak from an unknown source under a second floor bathroom. Why does this kind of thing always happen on a weekend? I called several other places who couldn't come out for days. The estimate from Big Apple was higher than others I received but I did feel confident that the estimate was comprehensive and accurate, and was reassured that they do stand by their work. Went with them based on reviews, warranty on their work, and ability to come out same day.

Received a text when the technician was on his way with his picture which I appreciated. He arrived early in the appointment window, was polite and knowledgeable, wore shoe covers and due to COVID, wore a mask, the entire time he was in my house. He showed me exactly where the leak was coming from with pictures. I was asked for approval prior to each step for any work that would incur a charge, and he made sure I was happy with the work before he asked for payment.  I consider his level of knowledge and quality of work to be excellent. Definitely recommend and would call them again without hesitation.

Our water heater decided to crack open and pour hot water all over our basement at 8:30 on Sunday night. By 9 pm I got a call back from the owner and had an appointment for 4:30 pm Monday, the next day. Came out and took care of everything by 8:00. Hot water back on. Reasonable price for the job. We had a quirky, difficult crawl space and they took care of business w no problems whatsoever.

Water heater kicked the bucket at a massively inconvenient time, and after calling at about 7pm the night it happened, had a brand new quality brand heater installed by 9pm the next night. Jason the owner was very responsive and got things set up quickly, and Alex the tech was nice, professional, and both worked late into the night with no surcharge to get us back in hot water. Great experience, would recommend.

Side note: Reading the other reviews out there makes me feel sorry for the owner for the type of people he has to put up with. A few random psychos I understand - sad, but the state of the world -  but for the price-whiners: If you're that much of a cheapskate, go on Nextdoor and low-bid unqualified randos, you'll get what you pay for.

This review is specifically for our technician Gabriel. He is an awesome guy & I truly appreciate his professionalism & expertise. I own a condo and had a drainage issue the other day. I called around to a couple of places & Big Apple was able to get me in the quickest. Gabriel showed up earlier than the scheduled time, diagnosed the issue & walked me through all of the possibilities. He wrote up the estimate & explained everything on the spot. He was able to snake my lines right away and so far everything seems to be working properly. On top of that he is just an all around awesome person & a true asset to the company. This guy deserves a raise. Thank you Gabriel!!!

Great if you need a last minute fix.
Very overpriced. Do your research ahead of time or else expect to pay around 1.5-2x the price for things.
They will try and rip you off if you are not careful. They will try and tell you that you need to have certain services done because their specialist says so. They will then quote you $25,000 to repair an entire pipe from start to finish when 95% of your pipe is perfectly fine. They will try and convince you and pressure you that this is the only way to resolve your problem.

To update the comments from the owner that he changed (after pretending not to remember): wish I still had the text, so I could put it up here but I was asked to remove this review by the owner. We had 2nd and 3rd quotes done on our house in addition to two more scopes. I then it had it supervised by another specialist and no one even came near their quote. Our lines were perfectly fine under our driveway.

Don't be deceived! Get more quotes! This company is falsely elevating their ratings and then updating their comments later to make it look their poor reviews are their customers' faults! For a company that depends on their customer's experience, they are very unprofessional and deceiving.

Please do not waste your time with this company.  We reached out to have an expansion tank replaced on our boiler, our boiler is old and we realize that, it was disclosed up front.  Jason came out and looked at the boiler two weeks ago and told us he would be in touch with a quote.  Today I called to ask where the quote was and he informed me that he was declining to quote.  I can appreciate his decision to decline to quote, but have some professional courtesy and relay that information to us.  He then stated that he assumed we had reached out to other contractors for quotes at the same time, which we had not based on his outstanding yelp reviews.  A company is only as strong as their customer service, please use this as a learning experience on common and professional courtesy.

I Originally did not want to use this company because of their $69 service fee. But after having other places not show up after making an appointment or telling me they would call to let me know when they were coming, and also not showing up. I decided it was worth the $69 fee for the reliability and good customer reviews.
Alex came and diagnosed the problem, and was able to get started right away and finish the job within a couple of hours. He was early, friendly and very professional. He Explained and showed me everything that was needed.
Before he pulled away I decided to check to make sure there wasn't any water leaking. I did notice some. And he was very nice about getting out of the truck and coming back and checking on it. Turns out it was just a little residual left in the line.
I was happy with the service I received and I also appreciate their guarantee.

First off, I can't speak to Jason's *actual* workmanship as a plumber, because I only spoke to him on the phone. However, he was really helpful in communicating over the phone about what to try to solve the problem. (It was a problem with our hot water heater not starting up)

I wasn't able to solve the problem with him on the phone, but after I hung-up and put some more time into it and checked a few more things out, I was able to get it going.

Thanks for help, Jason. Most businesses only want to help when they get compensated, but I really appreciate Jason's helpfulness. You've got my recommendation and I hope this spurs others on to trust his integrity and work ethic.

IF YOU ARE UNSURE IF YOU NEED WORK PERFORMED DO NOT HAVE THEM COME OUT. Also - read many of the reviews here and you'll see others have had this same disappointment. Don't put yourself through it. I had a potential issue with my gas oven, and called and asked if they did this type of check or work. The person I talked with said they could help me and there would be a dispatch fee. I made it clear the issue is when I turn my oven on only. If any work was performed they would apply that dispatch fee to the cost of the repair. That makes total sense, HOWEVER, their dispatch fee is literally only for them to drive to your house and ring the doorbell. NOTHING ELSE. NOTHING. Just to have them check the gas line behind my oven would cost and additional $400!! Just to have them pull the appliance out and see if there is a leak, not even to repair the leak. On top of this, if the issue was with the appliance and not the gas line, they dont do that type of work and did not clarify that when I called (or I dont clearly remember that they said this). I think it is pretty clear when I described my issue that you should (a) clarify you dont repair appliances and (b) tell your potential customer that it will cost them $400 just to figure out if there is a problem at all!! We all know why you would not reveal a $400 diagnostic - most non-commercial customers like myself probably would not pay that much. Regarding the dispatch fee itself, when I called, they said the dispatch fee was $59 - that is what I wrote down. When they arrived they said it was $69. Maybe I wrote the wrong thing down but if you look at other reviews you'll see the fee seems to be all over the place. So now I am $69 poorer for someone simply coming to my front door, and I'm fully expecting the owner to be sassy in their response to me, as seen on other reviews. I dont care - I am sharing my honest experience with your company, as have many others here. If you dont like our honest experience, get out of a business that involves customers being satisfied with your company.

Hot water heater replacement
Wow! Fantastic job. Needed a new hot water heater on the first freeze/snow of the year (of course.) Big Apple scheduled me for next business day service, with a tank/install at a flat rate (which means no pressure to buy additional stuff I know nothing about) and the guys were on time, polite, fast and did great work. Of the 5 quotes I got, Big Apple was on the higher end of the range (but not the highest) but frankly I'm happy to pay for the service and peace of mind I received. Even though they advertise that they can provide estimates on Yelp, this information is wrong. They do not provide quotes over the phone. Dishonest, high priced, won't stick to bid, don't waste your time. Jason, the owner is very sketchy character that bid one price to get you committed and then changes it on you once they show up to work. On top of that their prices are way too high anyway. I was able to get the same work done for half the price without any of the drama.  When I questioned/complained about raising the price Jason realized that I was going to cause problems and came up with another lie about me trying to do unapproved work on my own, I guess to save face. Didn't even make since - why would I?

Don't think twice about calling Big Apple Plumbing and Heating if you have any plumbing needs. I called with what I thought was an impossible request (same day service at 12:00pm on Friday) but Jason was out by 2:00. He quickly diagnosed the problem and made a few simple tweaks to the toilet and had it good as new. This was a rental property that I had no time to address myself and Jason gave me tons of valuable advice. He made recommendations that I could do myself to save a fortune. It is rare these days to find a service that looks out for the customer but I'm relieved to have found one. Big Apple has earned my business and I look forward to working with them in the future.

I scheduled an appointment to have a sink and faucet installed, and they were not even able to give me a price range over the phone. The person on the phone told me it would be $39 for someone to come out and look, and that fee would be deducted from the total if we were to move forward. I thought it was pretty annoying that they couldn't even give me a range of a few hundred dollars, especially since I explained exactly what we would be doing over the phone, but fine, I could do my own research to get an idea on price. I found that the national average to install a new sink is $394, with most homeowners paying between $216 and $584, so I figured the price would fall somewhere in this range.

The plumber who arrived was very friendly and professional, but upon arrival and a quick look told me it would be $986 to install a standard top mount drop in sink - and another $300+ for the faucet. This is absolutely outrageous! I just threw away $39 and could have easily avoided that if the company would have just answered a simple question over the phone and perhaps requested a photo before sending someone out.

What a waste of my money and waste of this plumbers time. This company is a joke.

80 year old steel pipe full of 80 years of stuff finally rusted. We tried to patch it ourselves and when that failed called another plumbing business who never showed up. And we are so glad they didn't.

I called at 7 am on a Sat got an 11 am appointment. And he called at 9 ish and said he was in his way.

The work was completed in under and hour was priced just right and we couldn't be happier

This is a family business not a chain or franchise.

The service we received was top notch.

They came out to fix a leak in one of our pipes. The guy was extremely nice and knew what he was doing!

He couldn't find the exact part because it was older pipes so he welded some things and made a piece to work.

I am very pleased with the work done and also the guys nice and respectful attitude.

Would definitely use them again!

Disraeli was prompt, courteous, showed me the work and testing he did, left the areas spotless and reviewed the receipt and labor warranty.  Seamless experience from working with Jason by phone to the end of visit.  I will update if any problems with the work, but I do not anticipate any.  I would recommend them to my friends and neighbors.

Disraeli and Alex came to our house today at the exact time they said they would be here.  I would expect that of professionals but IT IS A BLIZZARD OUTSIDE.  These men came, knew exactly how to install our Pelican whole house water filter and conditioner.  They came with all the tools, piping etc necessary.  They completed the job under 3 hours, showed us how to work the system, cleaned up.  All in very professional courteous manner.  Would absolutely recommend. Will use again.

These guys are truly amazing and just exceptional human beings. I saw a call for help from a disabled, elderly neighbor on Nextdoor. Her tub diverter had failed so she was unable to use the shower. She'd gone two weeks before reaching out for help. When I saw the message I wanted to help but my wife and I tested positive for COVID in October and I was worried I might unknowingly expose her. I started calling plumbers but no one could get to her before the end of the week. I called Big Apple and told them what was going on. I asked them to work with her for scheduling but to bill me directly. I didn't realize I had been talking to Jason, the business owner, until his tech Jacob called me from her house to tell me they took care of her and there would be no charge. I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving, Sir is what he said. I'm thankful for these guys. They're a genuine class act.

A water line supplying water to the house for my sprinkler system froze and burst this year. The company came out to give an estimate to fix it. They did a good job and fixed it pretty quick. I thought their flat rate estimate was high, but I don't have time to mess around with a lot of estimates taking up my time, so I accepted. The guys were nice and took proper precautions for the pandemic. If I had the time to shop around, I probably could have gotten the job done at half their price.

These guys are really great. My wife and I had an overflowing water heater...late at night...and on a weekend. Big Apple are one of the VERY few companies that will come out after-hours, of which they did.

Our technician was Jacob, and he took care of us that same night. The water heater needed replacing, and he went and got a replacement & installed it. The poor guy was up late to finish the job (finished up around 2am), but we were so thankful to have him helping us like that. He even did the work that same night to, partially, save us the $140 call fee.

So in short -- this company really took care of us when we needed them, and in doing so, have gained a long-term household. :)

I'm out of town for work and (of course on Saturday night) my roommate calls to report that I have a plumbing problem. A cap blew off of a drain cover in the basement. Eek! So Big Apple comes by with a $100 surcharge for a weekend visit. A bit steep, but understandable for high-quality work.

Then they say it's a drain clog and they want $249 more to snake it. That's a bit steep, but again, they're a major and well-regarded company. There was a mix-up where I thought they were asking $349 IN ADDITION to the $100 charge, so I told them to pound sand. Then I came on here to complain, and the owner basically bent over backward to leave me satisfied. He messaged me politely even as I was being angry, and then they treated me like it was their mistake.

So yeah, now I'm kind of impressed.

Really liked Jason, very professional and an all-around good dude.  Hired him to hook up the stuff to make it possible to clean my tankless water heater, and he insisted and I learn how the flushing worked so I could do it myself.  That's a solid thing for a guy to do, you only do that if you're hoping to establish business relationships with people and not just take their money.

Big Apple Plumbing and Heating did a fine job for me.  They responded quickly and performed quality work.  They missed out on a 5 star rating because they didn't honor the senior discount they advertise on their phone greeting.  I was told the discount doesn't apply to that pricing.  So does that mean they up the price in order to give the discount?

My wife called in the evening around 9pm. Got an appointment for the next morning at 9am. Great  response . But when Gabriel got there and gave me a quote for $645...to diagnose and remove the toilet, etc with no warranty for damages or resolving the problem. She turn down the service and paid $45 for dispatch fee. got a second opinion and problems solved in 1hr for $150 with out having to do major work on the toilet removal.
Always get a second opinion and should never agreed to pay for a fee not having to do anything.

Yes, that's why she paid the $45, no questions about it. I changed my 1 Star to 3 stars for fast response.

I contacted Jason and explained the items I needed looked at. He was able to get a technician out within the hour and during our conversation he explained that there was a $39 fee to look at my possible issues and should there be repairs, the $39 would be applied to that fee. The technician did his inspection and found no issues. I asked him to write on the receipt that there were no problems found. He went to his car for a flashlight mid conversation and came back telling me that he had called his boss and in order to document that there were no issues found it would be an additional $187 diagnosis fee on top of the $39 dispatch fee. I feel taken advantage of because I told Jason on the phone that this was for a home sale inspection so if they generally have a fee for documenting the items that they inspected I feel like that would have been an appropriate time to make me aware of that.

Edit to add: the Owner contacted me off of yelp and offered to refund my $39 in return for me to remove this review. Take this into consideration when determining if his star rating is accurate

Royal treatment at royal prices.

Pros:

* Quick availability, even on weekends
* E-mail sent with photo of technician saying they are on the way
* Technician clean, expert, and very quick worker

Cons:

* Price is 3x the going rate. Prepare to mortgage your house for simple plumbing jobs.

A great company!! We had a new kitchen faucet to install, and just couldn't get to it after moving into our new home. After reading the great reviews from Yelp, decided to go with Big Apple Plumbing. Arranged the project with the owner, Jason. He made the process very easy by asking the right questions so he could send the best technician. Disraeli, the tech, was outstanding. He actually arrived early and performed the work a lot quicker than I thought it would take. After the the new faucet was installed, he went above and beyond what I expected and showed us how to remove the aerator and perform some regular maintenance. They also said the installation was warrantied for one year after the install. Great local company, I would have no hesitation recommending them.

I just bought my first home about 11 days ago--knowing at the time that the water heater was 18 years old and could go at any minute. That being said, the first time homeowner panic was real when I went downstairs and found my utility room floor under about 1/2 of water. I called Super Sewer Man Dave who referred me to Jason, and within about an hour and a half he had someone out to replace the water heater (complete with a leak alarm, god forbid this happens again.) Jason was even able to tell me over the phone exactly what I was looking at in terms of cost. Couldn't be happier with the prompt and friendly service. Thank you, Jason and Big Apple for making it easy to survive and resolve my first crisis as a homeowner!

First I want to say that the customer service was good, the gentleman was nice.  The price the more I think about it was overpriced.  When I spoke with Jason on the phone and told him what was going on, he stated that it could cost up to $600.  Mind you, this was over the phone and he did not see the job.  When the other gentleman got to my house, he looked at the job and said it would take 3 hours and cost $895.  I had already taken a day off of work and had to get the issue fixed.  The plumber was at my house for 1 hour and 45 minutes.  Part of that time was talking to me about the issue, part of the time was spent at Home Depot getting parts and part of that time was clean up so all in all, he worked on my plumbing for less than 1 hour.  $895 for less than an actual hours worth of work is a bit much.  I would not use them again. Jason at Big Apple Plumbing is the man you want to hire for your plumbing job, hands down. I almost don't want to review him because I don't need him getting busier than he already is but he deserves the kudos. Jason is one of the last plumbers in town that actually charges you by the hour for the job regardless of what it is. No trip charge, no investigation fee, free estimates, no magic book that has tiered pricing based on the job and NO commission markup. Not only does the job he says he's going to do but he will actually walk you through how you can either fix issues yourself or how you can avoid issues in the future. We have used big apple twice now. Once to fix a leak in a copper pipe which was done very quickly and then a follow up to replace that whole stretch of pipe which he noticed had so many patches on it that he recommended we get it done. Both jobs completed on time and done at a fraction of the price that other big plumbing companies would charge. If you want to pay four times as much for a plumber in a big fancy painted truck with a cool uniform than be my guest. I'll only use big apple from no on.

I do not recommend!! Called to have plumber come out for estimate on drain repair. Quoted me a $39 charge to come out. When I showed him the problem he said it would be an additional 180+ dollars to diagnose the problem. When I protested the amount he walked out to speak to someone at the office. When I called the office to ask why I wasn't told about the additional charge when I set up the phone appointment the dispatcher starting yelling at me and calling me dirty names. I'm shaking from the experience.

Worst plumber I've ever experienced. Charged $120 to come to our house to literally do nothing. Was told we would have to pay more to have him stand under the house while we flushed a toilet to see if it was leaking because it is a diagnostic fee. He was not interested in helping us- only interested in trying to sell us a new water heater. Long story short- sent him after (after having to pay $120) and called AAA plumbing who were much better.

I found Jason here on Yelp and was impressed off the bat with his willingness to stop by and take a look at the problem! He was very helpful and explained what he was doing. A pipe in the bathroom upstairs was leaking into the basement.  It was noon on Sat. when I called Big Apple and was pleased that they could send Jacob out later that afternoon.  I got a text from Jacob telling me a little bit about him as well as BIg Apple Plumbing.  They were very explicit regarding COVID19 protection measures and texted me a link so that I could track Jacob as he headed to my house.  The job turned out to be a simple fix, thank goodness, but I wouldn't hesitate to call Big Apple Plumbing and Heating again in the future and would definitely recommend them to others.  FIVE STARS to this outstanding company.

So overall I was happy with Big Apple plumbing.  I needed to get two toilets replaced.  I totally understand that they may discover things after they start working and the price may go up.  One toilet was in the basement and when he started on it, there was no flange and one bolt was not really attached to the floor anymore.  So yes, he had to drill and put in the flange.  Price went up and I understood.  The second toilet was upstairs. Really no problem but the hose to connect to the water pipe was 3/4 size and the water line was 1/2 inch.  So he had to change the fitting on the water line.  Ok fine, but the price to just change out that fitting was as much as replacing one of the toilets.  I have change the fitting on water lines in two houses and it is pretty easy.  When I asked about the price the plumber just falls back on the line well that is what the company charges.  It just seemed extremely high.  But the point to is I didn't get a good explanation.  $300+ just for that process, wow.  I paid it but I lost trust in the company.  I probably won't be going back to them.

I'd give negative stars if I could for customer service and pricing.  I had a kitchen sink stopped up and called Big Apple.  The tech said there was nothing wrong with the disposal, it was just the kitchen line that needed to be snaked.  They did so, at a ridiculous price of $312.  After they left, I went to use the disposal and it wouldn't turn on.  I called the owner and explained the issue, and he simply said that it was a separate issue from the line, and that it was a coincidence.  He said if there was something wrong with the disposal than they would charge me for it.  I said there IS something wrong it doesn't seem to have power to it.  I figured out then that the tech had failed to plug the disposal back in (silly me), but the owner should have admitted that it was most likely related.  He was rude, condescending, and unprofessional.  No one should be treated like that, especially since I'd just paid them over $300. Also, they said since there was improper use of the disposal (Who doesn't put lettuce down the drain?), there was no warranty on the job they did. Yes they wore the booties, and yes they did the job, but it was a completely awful experience.  DON'T USE BIG APPLE!!

3 stars because I didn't have service completed with them so it would be unfair to rate them lower.

Plumber came out and told me it would be $425 to snake the drain.  I (admittedly rudely) told him that price was a rip off.  He took offense to, refused to do the work when I agreed to pay the $425, and left.  I was rude, that part is completely fair on their part.  So I do apologize to the guy who came for my rudeness if he sees this.

I had another company come out two hours laters, diagnose the drain just had some ice in it that could be melted and there was a jam in the garbage disposal.  They fixed everything for $140.

We both win, Big apple doesn't have to deal with a rude customer ever again and I don't have to spend 3x the costs for a plumbing repair.

Terrible customer service!  Owner seemed not to want my business from the minute we got on the phone. He was unclear on how the estimate process works or how much it would ultimately cost. When I would ask clarifying questions, he seemed annoyed and told me it doesn't sound like we're a good fit for each other. I totally agree. I don't like working with people who I feel are hiding something by not being up front and answering basic questions. I found another company who was much more professional and enjoyable to work with.

I really enjoyed working with Jason!  He was fast with his service and up front with all information.  I had a tenant call me on Sunday evening complaining of a broken water heater.  After searching for someone on Yelp, Jason took my call on Sunday night and had the unit replaced on Monday morning.  He informed me of the cost of the unit prior to any work being done and didn't charge for his inspection.  He gave me a call to give me his analysis and worked quickly after receiving my approval.  He also made sure that everything was installed to code and even hauled the old unit away.  My tenant was happy and thanked me for addressing the issue so quickly.  Many thanks to Jason for keeping me and my tenant in good spirits and for a quick turn around time.

They responded quickly and dispatched a tech quickly to provide an estimate to replace my hot water tank. Dispatch fee was charged ($69) and the estimate was provided. Tech informed me the dispatch fee is waived only if I agreed to quote and have them start work immediately. I felt pressured about this tactic and went with with my instincts to shop around for estimates. I found much less expensive options out there and was very glad I did not pull the trigger to move forward.

We've used Big Apple twice now between 2019-2021 and would definitely use them again.

The best thing about the company is their responsiveness and ability to act quickly. When our hot water heater went out in 2019, we got a few quotes and Big Apple was by far a more reasonable cost than others.

2 years later, we had an issue with a rusted piece and while we were disappointed that it was not covered under a warranty, we were grateful that they could get someone out the same day I called and fix the issue right away.

We appreciate the good communication and responsiveness and plan to use them in the future.

There was great communication from Jason.  He responded to every call very promptly.  Our technician was Gabriel, and he did a stellar job.  He arrived exactly on time, and was clear about pricing, timeline, and scope of work.  He quickly and efficiently diagnosed our problem.  Doing so required removing some drywall, and he was clear upfront that they did not do drywall repairs, which we understood.  Gabriel removed as little of the wall as possible to find the issue, and left the workspace very clean.  In terms of communication, this is one of the best experiences we've had, as everything from setting up the appointment, to getting the diagnostic, to follow up/estimates for repair was prompt, clear, and professional.  In terms of safety/COVID, Gabriel wore a mask, gloves, and boots, which was very appreciated.  We did end up going with another company for the repair, as they gave us a lower quote, but we would certainly call Big Apple again, as we had an excellent experience and they did a great job of diagnosing the problem.
