Want to get the electrical work done correctly, according to code, and on time? Want to hear someone quote from the electrician's bible? Scott is that person! Highly recommend.

UPDATE: After posting an honest review, Scott started sending me scary, aggressive texts to my personal number and calling me names. Please avoid this person and this company. Read the other one star reviews who complain about the same thing.
Scott and Louie were amazing! They were prompt, so nice and up front with their rates. They replaced an exterior light fixture and looked at two other fixtures that were running dim. They fixed everything and it all looks great. I highly recommend West LA Electric and will be calling them for all of my electrical needs.

I called looking for an electrician and spoke to Scott. I told him my issue and he asked me to take a photo of my breakers and immediately knew what was wrong. He was able to fix my issue and didn't need to come out nor charged me. Very personable and friendly.
Scott replied to my text promptly and Jose arrived early that afternoon, and promptly found what had gone wrong with the power supply to our back yard fountain and fixed it. A pleasure to work with - I'll happily text Scott next time I need an electrician.
Scott & Jose are very knowledgeable and patient.
Scott has been servicing my managed buildings for over 20 years. He's always reliable, well priced and ready to explain thing as well as make suggestions.
Scott and his team are exceptional. Very responsive, timely and professional. Could not be happier with the service they provided and I will exclusively be calling West LA Electric for any of our electrical needs!
Outstanding company and stellar service!!
I sent photos via text to Scott regarding a fuse that would randomly blow and he recommended an inspection which was spot on.
Jose arrived on time, spent almost 2 hours thoroughly examining the fuse panel, looking for burnt or loose wires, checked neighboring outlets, even those in the ceiling.
Throughout his review of the wiring and panel, Jose clearly communicated what he was doing and why. I knew very little about the panel until Jose who took the time to explain it in detail. I am most grateful for Scott and Jose! The company is a rare find and will be my go to in the future for all electrical issues. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
We needed to swap our three GFI outlets on the exterior of our house. We were not in a rush.
I called West LA Electric, and they sent Jose out within 90 minutes. I was told that they would charge by the hour, and then there would be the costs of parts, etc. I was expecting a 2 hour job or so, but Jose took care of all three outlets in less than 1! He was also super nice and explained what he was doing to be very clearly.
Great work, reasonably priced, and everyone I interacted with at this company was awesome. I would totally use them again on future projects.
I cannot say enough good things about Scott H. the owner of West LA Electric. We arrived home today, Sunday, to find that half of the electricity in our house was off, then on, then off again. I texted Scott who immediately diagnosed it as being a problem with one of our legs, the connections between the power pole and our home. He recommended calling DWP. I did so and they came out in less than an hour, and fixed the problem, which was corrosion at the power pole. Remember that this Sunday, and Scott replied in under a minute with the exact right advice. If you ever need an electrician, call Scott at West LA Electric. He also put in my car charging port about six years ago, and that's worked like a charm ever since. No issues whatsoever. Thank you, Scott!
Scott (and Jose) took excellent care of us. Fast and friendly service at a fair price. Will definitely be using him again.
These guys are the best.
Good troubleshooting, very efficient and friendly. No bogus, or hidden prices / quotes.
Can highly recommend.

West LA Electric provided an exceptional customer service experience from start to finish! Scott was so helpful in explaining what would need to be done to complete minor electrical repairs around my home, and Jose showed up on time and worked super efficiently to get everything done properly. Jose has a great personality, is super helpful, smart, and is an overall trustworthy professional. He made me feel so much better about the electrical tasks that had been on my to-do list for far too long, as I researched local electricians and finally made a sound decision on one.
I highly recommend West LA Electric as they are honest, transparent, prompt, professional and comprehensive in their new customer intake and on-site service. I greatly appreciate technicians and businesses that live up to their public image and marketing promises! Thank you so much Scott and much gratitude to you, Jose for a wonderful job! Appreciate you both!

Great guys. Top notch service at a competitive price!
Didn't use them, but Scott was extremely responsive and made suggestions over text. Based on how hard getting an immediate response is, they would be my first choice next time I have an issue
Called them again, this time to upgrade an electrical socket with a proper ground. Can't say enough good things about both Scott and Jose; Scott is so patient listening to the issue and suggesting solutions that don't necessarily make him a profit; which seems so unusual. I trust his guidance, and Jose's work was fast and efficient. They're my go-to electricians from now on; happy to have them as a resource!
Scott and his team are top notch! I will forever be using and recommending their services based on top notch customer service, overall knowledge and expertise. Scott and Jose made sure the job was done right and truly stand behind their work. When a minor issue arose they came out promptly (same day) to get everything taken care of the right way. Friendly, easy to work with and exceptional customer service. Thank you West LA Electric!
West LA Electric is a fantastic outfit and Scott is super duper efficient and honest. Today I thought I needed to update my outlets with a reset button as they were dead and no amount of fiddling with the fuse fixed it. Turns out there is one plug with a reset button and it controls all of them on the wall. Did I know that? Clearly not. But WLE did and instead of charging me $185 to add reset buttons, this free advice was all I needed. West LA Electric has done all our lights and they've been awesome.
West LA Electric did a fantastic job installing two Ring surveillance cameras in our Condo HOA. Scott himself came to find the possible solutions, he gave us a reasonable quote, and then Jose came to make it happen. There were a few additional technical hurdles along the way, but Jose found the best solution every time. The experience of these guys is tremendous, they are very courteous, respectful of furniture, attentive to cleaning after the work is done, and they even went the extra mile to help fix gate lock issues following a break-in. This is a local business that deserves to be supported and talked about in the community. Smart professionals with a friendly attitude and reasonable prices. We only call West LA Electric every time we need electrical services, and once again they were awesome. Consistently excellent! Thank you!

My house is old and the electric panel is really old. Probably about 40 to 50 years old. I was having some weird problems with my NEMA 14-50 outlet for my Tesla Model 3 charger so I knew I needed to call an electrician and I wanted the best. I found West LA Electric on Yelp in the #1 spot and I'm glad I did!
I texted Scott the details and he sent Jose and Gabriel right over which was all I could hope for on such short notice. These guys really know their stuff and taught me a lot about how homes are wired and why things are done certain ways. Even though the panel was probably older than them they knew exactly what to do which was awesome. They tested everything, moved some things around, and after everything was back to working with a reconditioned breaker, tested everything again including the operating amps and temperatures of each breaker to make sure everything was going to keep working once they left.
These guys are pros and know what they are doing so if you want the job done right call them!

Let me tell you something folks. I was freaking out over a lights issue when the lights would turn completely on and off throughout the day. It was driving me crazy enough to call for an electrician to come in and repair the issue.
I called West LA Electric and Scott, the business owner, answered my call. I quickly told him the issue and he already knew the answer immediately. I sent him a picture of the lights and he suspected that 50 watt lightbulbs are installed instead of the 20 watt ones (Cut me some slack... They look exactly the same!) Lo and behold, I replaced the 50 watts with the right 20 watts and now my lights aren't turning on and off like before. I assume Scott gets these beginner questions all the time and he answered my question like it was the first time he heard it.
Thanks Scott for saving my building from getting burnt down! Appreciate it. I know who I would call if I ever have any electrical problems down the road.
Hi Bryan,
In reading your review, I find it untrue, and Yelp has suggested that it is provided verification that this call, in fact took place or else they may remove it.
Can you please provide me proof to send to Yelp that there was a connection between the two of you, to verify you did call the right company. You can simply take a snapshot using your smart phone history, which provides the date, time, how long the call was etc. It is suggested we wait 10 days for your response, and if we don't hear from you we can submit to Yelp for its removal .
Maybe you can consider to remove it yourself as in my time working for Scott, I have never heard him hang up on a potential customer.
*****Trying to get me to take down the Review. Scott was rude and these lies being told in order to protect an employee by calling a potential customer a Liar. Deal with another COMPANY. DONT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY. YOU HAVE OTHER OPTIONS******
Truly a pleasure working with Gabriel from West LA Electric again! He came back out today to hardwire a few new motion lights and replace a pendant in my kitchen. To put the exterior motion lights up, he had to go through an outlet in my room that had become problematic (chargers would fall out of the socket..) As a courtesy he replaced the socket in my room with a brand new one!
After completing everything he had come to do today, Gabriel noticed that an existing old outdoor fixture was not up to code! The junction box and outlet were not rated for outdoor use, also far too many connections were coming out of the box. My cousin who is a handyman, and was here today as well, explained to me in layman's terms that Gabriel had caught a ticking electrical time bomb, and for that I am eternally grateful.
As it turns out, after discussing today's events with my father, I learned that the previous owner of the house was an old-time DIY electrician. We have several switches in the house that we don't understand and that don't seem to work.
Gabriel will be back again on Monday to bring this old house up to code -- whether I will be here or not, I trust that Gabriel will get everything done in a focused, timely, and professional manner.
Before he left, Gabriel thoroughly swept his workspaces (which he had also tarped off) in the kitchen and my bedroom. When I say thoroughly I mean thoroughly, he even got the cookie crumbs under my bed!

I contacted West LA Electric to install a chandelier in my condo. Communicating with Scott was easy and he allowed me to communicate via text to illustrate the work that needed to be done, which was super convenient. Jose completed the job quickly and allowed me to observe and ask questions (since I am a lighting nerd). I enjoyed working with WLA Electric so much that I hired them for a commercial installation the following month. I would not have hired them a second time with my work reputation on the line had I not had full confidence they would do an amazing job. And it turned out amazing! They will be my go-to electrician from here on out.
The wife and I bought a house not too long ago and i decided to update all the outlets and plugs myself.
The bathrooms were up to code and needed to have gfi's installed. After installation and testing them out. Some how i took power out to half the house.
After doing some research i came across LA electric and gave them a call.
They set up an appointment the next day.
They were on time. And very informative about what i was doing wrong. When they were done they cleaned the place up and gone within the hour.
I would highly recommend this place to any and all.

This company has been consistently good and professional for YEARS. With all the frustration of the various home repair outfits out there, it is such a great feeling when you have a good company. It's almost like you don't want others to know how good they are because they might get too busy.
Bullet points:
- On time and called before arrival to confirm
- Professional attitude/very friendly
- Not out to rip you off
- Fair pricing that is up front
- Work quickly but carefully
You are very unlikely to find anything better than this outfit.
From start to finish the guys at West LA Electric were great. Scott responded promptly to the initial inquiry and communicated via text. He came for the walk through and room great notes and videos do that his crew know exactly what to look for. Gabriel and Jose are a great team. They installed a new 240V Dyer circuit for my mother in law without cutting into the wall. They did a great job thank you.
I don't usually write reviews, but found West LA Electric through a Yelp search. I was so pleased with them that I'm writing one :) From the moment I called for an estimate, Scott was super friendly, explained how the process and price estimate works (we were looking to have 2 ceiling fans installed), and wasn't pushy at all about committing to the service then -- as I wanted some time to make the decision. We ended up hiring them, and they were so great. They texted that morning to confirm the time and appointment, and as promised, Jose, the electrician, called when he arrived. Jose completed the work very efficiently and neatly, and was super friendly (answering all of my boyfriend's questions about how the electrical worked!). I would definitely hire them again -- thank you!
Both Scott and Jose were knowledgeable on the NEMA 14-50 Installation and Backyard light installation. Prices were fair and communication was present!

Scott and his crew are great. They helped us with a large, complicated project, and even helped us take care of some problems that a previous electrician had left behind. Cannot recommend highly enough.
Jose just came to my home regarding installation of a new kitchen ceiling light fixture. He helped guide me to the best decision (changing the existing florescent light to LED), and I will be returning the new fixture I purchased, which was too large. Jose was a tremendous help - calm, professional, and easy to understand. Without him, I would have been totally lost and unable to figure out the next step, and I am very grateful. A great experience all around!
West LA Electric is amazing they should get more than five stars.
Scott and Gabriel fixed a wiring problem in our condo that had previously been going on for four years with no solution.
Everything was explained beautifully and clear. They were prompt and highly skilled in the pricing was extremely reasonable.
I will only use West LA electric and only recommend them to my friends these are the ultimate professionals you can count on and great people.
Another bonus extra was that Scott guided me through the confusing complicated process of working with DWP to get their cooperation
Also amazingly refreshingly they did not ask me or even mention posting a review for their extraordinary work.
I guess if you're that great at what you do you don't have to ask for the applause you just get it!!

Had an issue with one of my clients (own a service company myself) and we blew their outlet. Call Scott and he was there the next day, fixed the issue and charged a really fair price. Matter of fact, the price he quoted over the phone was the price i paid...rare to find (honesty).
Thank you for your help in resolving that outlet problem for me.
this place is a joke. be carefull they quote you one price and then switch and bait to another price. their estimate was way more than others

Gabriel is a true pro. He did a very good job with troubleshooting and recommendations and so evidently cared about his work, putting in off-the-clock time to make sure the spackling was perfect. Also, excellent work ethic. I watched him do a 9 hour day with just a half hour break. The man is a machine!
Scott also dropped by a couple times throughout the day to make sure everything was running smoothly. I overheard them make several calls back forth to communicate what was happening. Seems like they have a great team dynamic going!
After so many horrible vendors for various services, I'm glad I don't have to look for any other electricians. I'll definitely be using them every single time.

I just had one of the most refreshingly honest experiences with Scott, the boss over at West L.A. Electric. I own a 4-story home in West L.A. (2001 Construction) & the electrical outlets in 2 of the 4 bathrooms went dead a few days ago. A handyman friend of mine spent 3 hours at my place yesterday working to diagnose / fix the problem, and ultimately failed to figure out what was causing the issue. So I did a quick Yelp search and found West L.A. Electric on Yelp (they had a hard 5-star rating and are located near my home, so I gave them a ring).
I explained the issue to Scott (super friendly guy) and he told me what he thought was going on, and explained how to fix the issue over the phone. His simple solution worked immediately. Free Advice from a business owner! Any other electrician would have sent someone out, collected the minimum service call fee and most likely tacked on an extra hour or two by claiming the issue was much more complicated than it really was.
Scott knew what the issue was, and he would rather be helpful and save me time and $ than make some extra $ for his business. But now he has my personal business for life...and I happen to own a real estate company that handles the leasing at over 500 apartment buildings in L.A., so I very much look forward to sending a lot of business his way in future years!
Thank you Scott!

OUTSTANDING SERVICE AT A FAIR PRICE
We needed an electrical outlet put in for a dishwasher installation. Eric arrived on time, carefully protected our hardwood floors as he worked and got everything done in just an hour. From scheduling to completing the job to clean up, Eric and West LA Electric delivered outstanding service. Add some applause for honesty when the final bill was actually 26% under the original estimate. Based on this experience I would certainly use them again, and recommend them to anyone needing electrical work done in their home.

Scott, thank you for your excellent service yesterday! I can truly say you know what your doing.. He literally saved us hundreds. Spoke to him about our problem and mind you it was a major problem. He could have came and charged us hundreds yet he decided to tell us how to fix our problem over the phone step by step took his time out of his busy schedule. Thank you for your professionalism and patience with us. West LA Electric will be highly highly recommended by me.
I recently hired West LA Electric to upgrade my antiquated electrical pannel from 60 amp to 200 for my 1920's Spanish Style home in Venice. I couldn't have been happier with the Job from start to finish. This was quite a tricky upgrade as the panel had to be relocated with new wires run under the house.
Both Eric and Gabriel who carried out most of the physical work were excellent. They absolutely went the extra mile and worked extremely hard and efficiently for 4 days. There were no short cuts. I also paid for 3 new circuits for my kitchen but ended up with 5 because as Eric informed me it was the right way to do it.
I actually received quotes from 3 electricians. Scott was the only one willing to deal with the City permitting procedure and at the same time remain competitive. So for the same price, Scott applied for the permits, scheduled the inspection and even waited around 2 hours for the City inspection. Everything passed without a hitch!
Overall Scott was straightforward and easy to deal with. Having worked with a number of contractors recently I know the rough from the smooth... My advise is save yourself the hassle, take the path of least resistance , and call West LA Electric.
Gabriel did a great job. Arrived quickly and tracked our problem to a damaged wire under the house. Very trustworthy and intelligent service. Will use again.
So rad, Scott helped me fix an outlet GFI issue in 10 seconds of speaking with him on the phone! Fixed!
I had an outlet and a data line installed by west la electric. They were very nice, on time, did great work and charged a very good price for the job. I would definitely recommend them for residential electric service.

I had a new air conditions system placed on my roof and West LA Electric did all the electrical work. Professional in all ways. Promptly arrived each day, workmanship quality excellent, responsive to any questions or issues that arose.
I've been using West LA electric for many years, recommend them without reservation if you ever need a residential electrician.
Scott is a great guy. Did his best to help me over the phone at no charge. Coached me on how to deal with DWP. In the end I did have him come out do some trouble shooting and I think he earned his fee. I would not hesitate to call him again or recommend him to neighbors.
It's been said, but these guys are the real-deal and very honest, which for me is key.
Eric R came to fix the ancient panel we have in the condo. He was on-time (huge deal for me!) and even took his shoes off because I'm picky like that (but I didn't even have to ask).
We even geeked out about circuits and audio stuff while he was working which I appreciated. He also showed me what was wrong and why it was acting up, and gave me some tips to save some cash in the future.
Very very much appreciated.
My recommendation is to hire these guys instead of worrying about whether you're getting ripped off or overcharged.

I have used West LA several times now in the past year in connection with a number of projects around the house. I've had a great experience each time; they have always been punctual and got the job done on time.
The most recent project - just completed - was the upgrade of my electrical panel. Most of the work was done by Gabriel with Scott's help as needed. Gabriel identified a couple of circuits that required attention to bring them up to code. The new panel is up and running and looks great!

I highly recommend Scott at W. LA Electric, and would absolutely use him again. If you're like me, and don't have patience for long reviews, here's the bottom line...
Scott is an honest, experienced and talented electrician. Very efficient and up front; no surprises.
My front yard outdoor lights stopped working during the heavy rain last week. A good friend, who used to be a general contractor, said there is a short somewhere, but I'd need a qualified electrician to find it. The nightmare scenario for me was that 2 of the 8 lights are on posts about 20 feet from the house, and digging underground to find the short would cost me a fortune.
Based on Yelp reviews, I called Scott. He offered to come out and explained how his company charges for diagnostic work and repairs. Wasn't cheap... but sounded reasonable. Upon arrival, Scott was courteous, professional, and apparently very experienced. The short was in the line to the 2 post lights, but he was able to find it without digging! After testing a couple of possible entry points to the house from the underground conduit, he found the shorted wire within about 30 minutes! Scott completed the repairs, installed a new digital timer, and was done in just over an hour.
I have received the services of Scott and Co. on two separate occasions, spaced years apart. I found the services to be very professional and safe.
I'm a tech nerd so the first thing I did after buying my house was have Scott wire up the closet in the guest bedroom and also add an outlet to the master bedroom wall. I ran my servers in there for a while and all was well, but then I just didn't like that setup anymore (it was hard to ventilate) so I moved my servers to another place in my house with a more direct air current. Not his fault, just me not thinking the problem through. Either way, both outlets were done really nicely and I'm still using the outlet he did in the master bedroom. This was quite a few years ago. I think Scott was hesitant about the outlet in the guest bedroom closet and I think he mentioned something off hand about not wanting to wire up a closet if I were going to grow pot, ha ha ha. I told him it was for many servers and he was cool with it. I guess with electricity, there's always a risk. Or it could be that he has morals. I told my boss at work about this and he said his electrician said the same thing when he wanted his closet wired up (servers from an acquisition carry-over). Either we both used the services of Scott, or it might be a common concern. We thought it was funny. No visible damage from either job.
The most recent job I asked Scott to do was more inclusive. Now that I've lived in my house for several years, my wife and I were ready to add outlets in places where we needed them the most. I asked him to add 1 outlet in the living room, one in the kitchen, one in a small cubby hole next to my fireplace (for 3D printing), one in the guest bedroom, and a really tricky one over the fireplace for a clean install of my TV. They installed the outlet (because they are good at that), I installed the TV (because I'm good at that). The outlet over the fireplace required some exploratory work, but no visible damage. Not sure what they did on that one. Also, while doing an inspection, he told me that I had two outlets outside that were not GFI and could kill me if I used them improperly. To be fair, that's what the house inspector said, too. So I basically said what the heck and got a large swath of all my electrical work and wishlist done at once. It came in slightly under a thousand dollars. Not bad for a two day job.
They did a terrific job. I will always ask that Scott do my electrical work. They seem pricey, but so do electricians in general. High quality work. Friendly people.
I called Scott to come and check out problem left by another electrician who was working in one of my units I rent in West Los Angeles. Previous electrician didn't do good planning and messed up the entire job to tell me at the end that it was not possible to split the lights the way I wanted them.
Scott arrived on time with helper and started doing assessment. It was not an easy job because not only Scott had to figure out how it worked before, but what the other electrician did to mess it up. These are not good situations to be in, but Scott said he often gets calls to fix mess done by others who mess with electricity without knowing what they are doing, so this created more comfort for me.
Assessment he was about to do required advanced knowledge and understanding of the trade and Scott was re-assuring throughout the process that he will be able to find the problem and fix it.
In just 2 hours of intense analysis, Scott was able to reverse engineer the problem, suggest better solution and provide me very reasonable fixed quote to fix it.
He said he will come next day at 9:00 am and his crew was on time. He came to check on them and worked with them in spite of the the fact he didn't feel good that day. He stayed on the job until Eric came, who then took over. Eric is Scott's skilled team leader and very knowledgeable in this trade with strong customer service skills. He does incredible nice job patching up and doing just about anything in your walls in addition to electrical work. Eric also mentors junior people very well.
Scott's crew is like special forces of electrical world - they are IN and OUT, quick, on time and budget, with mission accomplished even when it looks like the mission is too huge to be accomplished that day.
Scott does charge fee to come out and see you but that is normal and fair - as he simply doesn't know what he will find and as he is assessing your situation, he is also consulting you. In fact, I would say is worth paying him his fee just to come out and double check work of other electricians as well.
I took a gamble 1st time I called electrician and made a mistake. I took a gamble 2nd time and I found Scott - the master of his trade, with great team and customer service skills who I will always use on all my projects from now on.
What can I say that hasn't already been said before? These guys are great.
Eric Rubottom was the technician sent to help fix the circuit breaker panel. He arrived promptly, was very respectful not to dirty the space, and was very knowledgeable. He even gave my brother and I a mini lesson during the process. A+++ Service
Gabriel of West LA Electric came out to my condo this morning to fix an issue with out smoke alarm. He was prompt, very knowledgable and even walked me through the issue so that I could replace it myself in the future. I highly recommend West LA Electric and will definitely use them in the future!
Fast and friendly same-day service from Eric. It's a shame the job was prepping my condo for new owners. I hope I find as good an electrician wherever I move to!
West LA Electric are the guys to call! I've had the pleasure of working with both Scott and Eric. Scott came over the first time a few years ago to install an outlet in my garage. He was professional and very pleasant to deal with and he did an excellent job.
I called up West LA Electric again recently when a circuit went out. This time, Eric came and diagnosed the problem quickly and had the replacement part in the truck ready to go. He was extremely knowledgeable and friendly and he was able to solve the issue in under 30 minutes of his arrival. He was exactly on time with the stated appointment which I really appreciated.
I called another electrician before hiring West LA Electric but they were not able to guarantee me an appointment time and said they could be here around 8am or 9am. I needed someone to be here ASAP so I'm glad I went with West LA Electric instead of the other company even though the other company did give me a lower initial quote over the phone. West LA electric's phone quote was accurate and I appreciated that there were no surprises.

I found West LA Electric by their stellar reviews on Yelp (and Angie's List), and they didn't disappoint. Eric showed up on time (to the minute). He was very thorough, friendly, and professional. A few additional items came to my mind while he was there (a switch that wasn't working), and it was no problem to add them to the job. He even diagnosed and fixed a couple of wiring problems that other electricians had created over the years. And he had an incredible range of hardware on his truck (including some decorative vintage hardware he could use to make a light fixture installation look just right). At the same time, he was happy to use light bulbs that I had bought on the cheap from Amazon. Great company. Great service.
I hired West LA Electric to install some ceiling fans in a my new place. Scott (owner) was very responsive and came out the day I called to give me a very reasonable quote. On the installation day, GABRIEL was on time and very professional. This is an older home so you never know what's going to happen when they get in to do the work. He install the ceiling fans and he also installed a dedicated outdoor power source and fixed a faulty dimmer switch in my kitchen!! Gabriel very quickly identified and kept me informed of issues pertaining to older wiring and poorly made connections, plus grounded the connections that should have been but weren't. These guys are CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL ELECTRICIANS and it shows! I can't say enough good things about West LA Electric and would definitely recommend and hire them again for any electrical needs. THANKS, GABRIEL!

Used West LA for a few years. Responsive, technically excellent service....But be very clear about pricing up front. Wanted to replace a lutron dimmer in kitchen that wouldn't stay on. I was pretty sure it wasn't the recessed can itself. I have had these short out (over 60 in one story house) and know how they behave when they begin to go bad.
Scott quoted me a $170 service call charge to replace the switch. This excl. the part, which I had. (if you buy off the truck, which is well stocked, think 3x Amazon or some other online electric wholesaler.)
I was stunned and when I asked why, his response was what if it was something more complicated. My response, then add the xtra labor to the bill.. After all, that is how any reputable major appliance service outfit works. His answer: $170.
I used an outfit in Playa -- time to replace 10 minutes, cost $90. And they sent an electrician and helper. So, if it had been more complicated, there was a team on site.
If you have an unexplained outage (e.g., a circuit), be clear about how and when the diagnostic work will get done. Used them for a circuit outage -- Scott came that Fri. afternoon. (responsive, yes). Rechecked outlets I had already checked using my hair dryer and left after an hour without getting under the house to check the junction boxes. Cost $150. Then Eric came out after the weekend and did the down and dirty diagnostics and repair in 2 hours. The initial service call made me feel good, but in retrospect, cost me xtra money. Lesson learned: unless you are really in dire straits, schedule this kind of service when they have the time to stay with it.
Scott is a licensed electrical contractor and definitely knows what he's doing when it comes to all things electricity. He is also very professional and seems very genuine.
He does charge a minimum / service call fee, so there wasn't really a free estimate, but sometimes that's the way it is I think when you don't know exactly what's wrong -- he has to start working to figure out what's going on. It does include the first hour, though, and it could be that's all he needs. After that it's an hourly rate.
So, if you definitely know what needs to be done and it's very minor, you might be able to manage yourself or use a handyman. But if you have a more complicated issue, or don't know exactly what's wrong, or just want to make sure everything will be done properly and to code -- and who doesn't when it comes to electricity? -- call Scott first.
I had a couple of things that weren't working and we didn't know the cause, whether it was the sockets, switches, wiring, etc.). I was also considering installing a new CO/smoke alarm myself, but then figured it was worth it to just have a professional do everything at once. Scott worked with me by showing up bright and early in the morning and managed to get everything done in 1.5 hrs so I still made it to work only a little later than usual. My bathroom fan/heater turned out to be broken, but Scott check to make sure the power going to the unit was working and then even showed me how I could order a replacement part and install it myself. So I saved a little money AND got to feel all handy! Great guy!!

Called West LA Electric to install two new lighting fixtures, both were not simple to install. Gabriel did a great job installing the new dining room chandelier and new mater bathroom lighting. Gabriel is a solid trustworthy professional, took the time to explain things and is very customer focused. Once again West LA Electric is highly recommended, thank you.
If 5 stars is as good as it gets, then Scott and his team at West L.A. Electric deserve 5 stars.
I've had two jobs done on my home in the past 3 years. The first was to provide power connection in our kitchen for the installation of an exhaust hood over the range. Simple, done quickly and with no problems.
Recently, we upgraded power in our garage and had exterior outlets installed so we'd have power supply for landscape lighting, music, etc in our back and front yard of our residence. We also had some motion-sensor floodlights installed for security. Scott video tapes the job requirements and provides a job estimate within a short time (1-2 days). Shows up on time, is licensed, provides advice on what is needed for electrical work versus optional power requirements. We had some electric work that was done ages ago and wasn't up to code and he helped identify those problem spots that could come up when it came time to sell our home.
I would recommend West L.A. Electric for any job large or small, residential or business. You won't find better electrical and electrician services.

Has one electric outlet that wasn't working and one doorbell that didn't ring fixed by one of Scott's people. The bill was $260 --- $175 for first hour labor, $55 for the second half hour of labor and $30 in parts and materials.. Scott told me that I should have gotten a freakin contractor if I wanted to pay less. Horribly unprofessional and unpleasant. He seems nice at first but has a volatile personality. Won't be using again. Ever.
Scott and team did a professional job installing new outlets in our kitchen.
Scott recently installed a sub-panel and a new 240 volt, 40 amp outlet for my Tesla Model S charging needs. My home power setup was bit of a mess but he figured out a neat solution right away.
Scott and his West LA Electric crew are easy going, prompt, neat, professional. Highly recommended. He's now done a few Tesla charging setup in several homes, so he is very knowledgeable about what's needed.
We had a great experience. Thanks for the great work and service West LA Electric. Cheers, Konscious Studios
I have been eagerly looking forward to getting a bunch of electrical projects done at my house and Scott made them all happen. He installed three pendant lights in my dining room and patched up the drywall after relocating the original wiring. Scott then installed a fantastic ceiling fan in a spot that had no existing wiring. He then swapped out an old piece of junk bathroom fan with a much better unit and also installed a completely new exhaust fan to better vent shower vapor. This last fan required cutting a hole in my roof, and arranging the services of a roofer to properly seal everything up. Additionally, Scott fixed my doorbell, did some work on Cat-5 / phone lines and replaced six smoke alarms.
Scott is a great guy and a pleasure to work with. He is punctual, very neat and tidy and seems to genuinely like what he does. I am really happy with the work that he and his crew did and would recommend him strongly.
Scott is the electrician who showed up at the house. He's the one I spoke with and was great. He told me up front about the $165 investigation fee and that it would apply to the actual work. Fine.
I had previously used an Angie's List deal for $49. This guy was nice, spoke English OK and stuck his $49/one hour deal. Fair enough. But he also rattled the breaker in my panel claiming that - when it made noise that I heard - that I needed to replace the entire panel for about $3000.
However, when Scott showed up, he checked out the breaker panel. He find that the 'noisy' breaker had 'melted' onto the breaker panel bars. That gave it the noise. However, he found a great solution. He checked all the breakers and found one that was not used. So he put in a new breaker but moved it into a new sport on the bar. That solved the problem - and without a $3000 cost for a new box.
Scott was on time, professional, honest and straightforward in his explanations. Hire him.
Scott has restored my confidence in electricians. I called him to get his rate and explain to him what I needed done. He came the same day and was on time, professional, and articulate. I had three specialized dimmers that would control the lights in my master bedroom which I had purchased before hand. Scott came with the wiring diagrams and install instructions from the manufacture's website that he researched and printed at his office! Yes, this sounds logical, but I've had many subcontractors show up and just try to wing it with the installations and not even read the installation guide which ends up taking more time and costing more money. I'd definitely call him again.

I recently hired Scott at WLA Electric to upgrade the service at my parent's house. Scott came right away the same day to give me an estimate. I was very pleased that he did a full assessment including taking detailed notes and photos. He came prepared with photos of previous jobs as well for me to evaluate. The price he quoted was all inclusive with no hidden charges and he also included many extras at no charge.
The work was very high quality, the installation was clean, and their service is excellent. Scott walked us through the whole process with scheduling with the electrical company - everything went smoothly from beginning to end.
Paying for services, these things are usually expected. How WLA Electric stands above any competitor is their excellent service. My mother called after the installation for a problem with the breaker. She called very late in the evening, Scott actually answered the phone and came the next morning.
If you are in West LA, don't hesitate to call West LA Electric. Two thumbs up, 6 stars, pleasure to work with. Thank you, Scott.

WEST LA ELECTRIC is excellent. I have never had such a knowledgeable electrician. He was able to analyze my problem(which I could not figure out) so quickly that I was amazed. In addition, he explained everything as he efficiently and very quickly solved all of my problems. I should also add that he (his name is Scott) was extremely polite and very modest even though his performance indicated that he had extraordinary talent. I was also impressed with his honesty and very reasonable pricing. In summary, if I ever hava another electrical problem, I will only call West LA Electric. Frankly, it is so refreshing to deal with someone who has the highest standards of performance and conduct.

this guys are great. scott does an amazing job. prices are very fair. always tells the truth and never any hidden agendas. very hard to find people in business like west l.a. electric this days.
Oh boy, they did it again!
Did what you ask? They did it freakin' right! Eric is hard-working, considerate, friendly but most importantly, he does NOT take short cuts.
If you are anal about how work gets done, these guys are your guys. Rarely do tradesmen take the time to make sure the job is done as perfect as it can be, and usually you have to bug them to do it. Not with West LA electric, these guys work on your stuff like they were working on their own house. That is the best you can ask for in a trade and for that, they get my business every time.
Scott is a straight-talking honest pro who tells it like it is. He was generous with his time, and outlined what he could do for us in a free estimate. Turns out our project isn't quite at the stage where we can hire him, but I look forward to the day I can do so.

Update 3 years later: Happy to report that the service is as good as it was the last time. Our bathroom light needed a new switch (we thought, but it tuned out that a ballast for the light was bad) and I saw some arcing on our garage overhead light. So we requested Eric once again, and again, he did an amazing job. He showed up as scheduled on Christmas Eve. This time, the job took longer than we expected but Eric toiled away on the issues late into the day. We had plans that evening and ended up having to leave poor Eric outside in the garage working alone while we left. The poor guy worked alone at our house late on Christmas Eve (we gave him a nice tip). But knowing that this was West LA Electric, we also knew that we were in good hands. Sure enough we returned to perfectly functioning lights.
Thank you again West LA Electric. You've proven to us again why you're our go-to electricians.
I had Scott come out to install a security light for my driveway. His guy, Eric, was very neat and professional. After a few months, the motion detector did not function properly. Scott came out to adjust it , and saw that it was not working properly. It turned out that he ended up replacing the unit two times, until it finally worked as intended. Each time, either he, or Eric came and worked until it was fixed. They came on time or informed us if they were running late.
Had an issue with ceiling lights in my kitchen. Called West LA Electric after reading reviews here. Was looking to make an appointment within the next couple of days, and Scott was able to come in 20 minutes. He was very friendly, knowledgeable, and took care of the problem in 10 minutes. He only charged $75, compared to other businesses which had quoted $200+.
Highly recommended, look no further for all your electrician needs. Dependable and trustworthy.
These guys are true professionals from start to finish.
I needed a new outlet to charge my Tesla Model S and called three different electricians for bids. West LA Electric by far the most responsive, helpful and competitive. no surprises, they did everything they said they would do and on time!
If you need electrical work done, look no further!
Dan
I've used Scott and his crew several times while renovating my house and each time I'm blown away by their professionalism and work.

Just called the company for a cost estimate...I live a few blocks from them...I was told that it would cost me $165 for just a cost estimate if they were to send someone to my house...and as I was asking more questions they just hang up on me....great customer service!!! I will certainly share my experience on twitter and blogs featuring customer reviews on electrical companies in west Los angeles...

West LA Electric came to my house today to fix a light - found out it had been improperly installed, not to code. Did a great job cleaning things up and doing it right. Explained everything to me. Standards are very high and prices reasonable and fair. Before arrival I got several text messages informing me of exactly when they would get there. Highly recommend.

Scott and company installed a sub-meter for my Tesla Model S in my condo's garage. They had a lot of obstacles to overcome and managed to pull if off. Great guys producing high quality work for a fair price!
In the time since the job was finished, the DWP has not been out to do their part. Even though the check has long since been cashed, Scott followed up with the dept and inspectors to help us get it resolved.

Eric came to my house pretty much on time, even though the work order had the wrong address number, wrong name and zip code. Good thing the phone # was right! Anyway, Eric was very professional and courteous. He located the problems right away and fixed an outside outlet (to code) and an outdoor fixture (I had him swap a little used fixture from the inside of the house). Will definitely use his services in the future!
West LA Electric is great! They worked with my schedule, came right on time, fixed the problem quickly, and were reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend them!

I scheduled the apt on Wed and Eric came on Friday right on time. He was great and worked hard the entire time. He fixed my problem, cleaned up after himself and was very professional. I plan on putting in some indoor and outdoor lighting and will definitely hire West LA Electric again.
Just had an amazing experience with these folks. The initial phone call was very clear and honest. The workman who came over (I believe, Gabriel) was very knowledgeable, thorough, and professional. He checked over all of the possibilities for our (spa breaker) problem, and fixed everything related that seemed even a little bit off. The problem is now fixed. I then mentioned another small electrical issue that I would be calling them about in a few months, and without hesitation, Gabriel insisted that he check it now. He then spent another 20 minutes fixing that problem without charge! (I tipped him anyway.) It was a very classy act, by a great guy and company. West LA will be my electricians for life, and I recommend them highly!
These guys are a class act. I needed the electrical in our new house looked at because we were worried that some of the electrical in the house was unsafe. They came out right away and Eric worked on our house for the next few days to try to get things safe and working as fast as possible. One example of how great they are is that I greenlit Eric putting in some lights in our dining room. But when my husband got home that night he didn't like them. I emailed Scott to see what we could do to put the old lights back in. Even though it was my fault and not the company's fault, Scott offered to take back the new lights at no charge and just charge me for the time to reinstall the old lights.

Scott and his crew are fantastic. They are very professional and efficient on their jobs. Scott responds to new service requests promptly with his friendly demeanor. He is fair and reasonable with his quotes and lays out all the options available to the homeowner. We have used him on several occasions for our electrical needs in Mar Vista and know him to be honest and conscientious.

I had a small buy troublesome electrical problem at my home in West LA. I saw Scott's van in my neighbor's driveway and stopped to ask him if he would look at the ceiling fixtures in my kitchen. He cheerfully came in and was able to solve my problem in just a few minutes! I was thrilled and asked how much I owed him. He declined to bill me, but gave me his card and a sweet little flashlight with the company's name on the side! I tipped him anyway, but I'll keep his card and look forward to hiring him when I have a real, paying job!
Thanks Scott for your skill and for being such a good guy!
Gabriel my technician and Scott the contractor were both great. There are probably cheaper electricians, but I figure I'm paying for the security of knowing that the job was done correctly the first time. I had a small job (installing an overhead doorway light). Gabriel came out with backup fixtures in case the ones I purchased didn't work. He worked quickly and did the job right, and even attached backup clips to make sure that it was all secure. Done. Now I don't have to think about it anymore.
I called them in the morning and Scott called back shortly after. He was in my neighborhood so he stopped by to have a look. 20 minutes later and my electricity was back up and running. Very nice guy. Very professional. Very knowledgeable. I have some other work that needs to be done so I'm having him give me a quote on it. If it's at all reasonable I will DEFINITELY go with him.

After our bathroom outlet started smoking, we knew we had a problem on our hands! After searching Yelp for a local electrician with good reviews, I decided to call Scott with West L.A. Electric. Scott returned my call immediately and came by a couple of days later when I had a day off of work to meet him. He was planning on leaving town early on the day I wanted him to come over, but happily said he could come by first thing and then would leave town later. Can you say, amazing?!
Scott came by a little early for the appointment, quickly diagnosed the problem and replaced my GFI in no time. Scott was friendly, professional, arrived early and worked quickly. I highly recommend him.

My wife and I really want to give West LA Electric 10 stars, however, 5 stars is the limit. Simply put, Scott at West LA Electric exceeded all of our expectations and we are grateful for having found him and his company. There is no doubt that his work has improved our home from a safety and practical standpoint. One of the primary differentiators we found with Scott was his patch work, it was seamless. Obviously, electric work can often require making holes in your walls/ceilings, Scott and his professional crew did an amazing job with plastering and patching which saved us lots of money and time. Just two weeks before we hired Scott, our neighbor hired an electrician that did not plaster and left her with unsightly holes all over her condo, she was frustrated and had to find someone to patch and plaster which added costs and drained her time/energy. We did not make the same mistake.
But with Scott, plastering and patch work was just the cherry on top. To sum him up in a few words, he is honest, professional, timely, competitively priced, clean, very hardworking, flexible, and reliable.
Our Story:
We just purchased our first home, a condo which had numerous electrical issues. We knew that one of the most important investments we wanted to make from a safety standpoint was fixing various electrical faults. We researched and received several quotes. Not only was West LA Electric competitively priced, but Scott and his work crew blew us away with their professionalism, knowledge, and quality of work.
The Facts:
He was on time, every time. He came for a free in home estimate, was personable and accommodating to our needs. He was patient and answered all of our questions - and I ask a lot of questions. He delivered on all of his promises. He was flexible and worked around our schedule, was diligent, highly skilled, and made sure our place was clean during and after his work. Scott is someone you can trust to do the job right in your home.
Some of the items we hired West LA Electric included:
1. Ceiling fan installation and new switch with light and fan speed dimmer.
2. Bathroom exhaust fan installation, included demo and removal of old fan.
3. New bathroom light fixture.
4. New GFCI outlet installation in bathroom and moving of an existing outlet which had safety issues.
5. Rewiring and a new circuit for bathroom electric.
6. Installation of new chandelier and removal of old fixture.
7. Installation of new outdoor outlet.
8. Upgrading of unsafe outlets.
Again, we recommend Scott and West LA Electric without reservation, for any job, big or small, thanks again for a fantastic job.
I needed some fluorescent lights, track lighting and led lights, west la electric had great deals, only thing was that I had to wait a bit. Overall I do recommend them.
I recently had to find an electrician to repair some backyard landscape lights. I started by searching yelp for an electrician in West Los Angeles. West LA Electric popped-up in the search results and had good ratings so I called them . . . the whole process was quite simple, efficient, and fairly priced. Eric Rubottom was the technician that the scheduler/office person sent to meet with me. He was very patient and explained the repair in very simple, non-technical terms that made it helpful to understand. Thanks West LA Electric and Eric . . . I will definitely be calling you for future repairs.
These guys are great!! Highly recommend! Scott did a great job for us fixing a multitude of problems our home inspector found in the condo we purchased last year. Since he did such a fantastic job, we asked if he would install our new dining room crystal chandelier for us. He and Eric came out today to install it and we LOVE it!! They were on time, professional, and honest. Really good at what they do and just super nice guys, a seamless experience from start to finish. Eric even patiently attached 80 crystal balls to the chandelier and advised me on how to screw in the unique bulbs when they need to be replaced in the future. I'll be calling them again for sure!!
I emailed around 5pm on a Wednesday night regarding a problem with our bathroom light. Scott set up the call with one of his guys for 9am Thursday. By 10am Thursday, everything was fixed (plus an additional problem that I'd been putting off). Great service, quick response, and fair pricing. Great job!
Outlets in back house were heating up and streaked with soot. Scott provided careful and prompt service on short notice, offering a couple of approaches to the problem. In the process he identified an additional problem at the box and we had him fix that as well when he explained and showed us what was going on. With electrical work you want someone like this who is not only licensed and knowledgeable but also attentive and careful.
West LA Electric came all the way over the hill to install two outdoor motion detection lights and a few other things and I couldn't be happier! They charged me a fair, very competitive rate for above standard work. They were prompt, professional, courteous and did excellent work. I would recommend West LA Electric to everyone I know and feel confident that they would receive the same kind of service they gave me. I'm hiring them again for a few more things to install! I'm a new home owner and am very pleased I found an honest, knowledgable professional to work on my home. Keep up the great work guys.

I found Scott and West L.A. Electric from a random search on the internet for electricians in my area (the west side of LA). Scott (the owner) answered the phone- first of all, how great is that! I explained my needs- replacement of recessed kitchen ceiling lights and a few other small electrical chores. Scott came out to give his estimate (he was in fact early for our appointment), he gave me three different pricing options for ways that we could go with the fixtures and lighting options, and we scheduled the work to be done. Scott and an extremely qualified helper named Brandon arrived on time with all the fixtures and parts that were needed- with options in fact for me to choose from- and did the installation. No muss, no fuss. Super polite, extremely helpful, and the job came in at a great price. I am a very happy customer & would recommend Scott and West LA Electric to all my friends, relatives, and readers of Yelp.
I've seen the WLA Electric truck in my neighborhood for several years, but never need to call them until now. I had two rooms with radiant heat in the ceiling; but neither had worked for some time. WLA Electric came out the day after I called them; and properly hooked up the electricity to the radiant heat in one of the rooms. The other room was beyond repair; but Scott the owner recommended installing a small attrractive wall heater instead. I plan on having that done this summer. His quote for the wall heater was more than reasonable; as was today's service call. I will definitely recommend WLA Electric. It feels so good to have someone reliable to call when you need them.
Our electricity went out in half of our house. After getting a crazy unreasonable bid from Powell, we called West L.A. Electric. He's honest and affordable and solved our problem in 30 minutes (whereas the other company wanted to charge us $9000 to rewire our entire house). The problem? One loose screw. Three cheers and five stars for West L.A. Electric!

I manage three buildings and have counted on West LA Electric to do all our electrical work for the last 3 years. Scott is always fair and dependable. Always the constant professional, I trust his advice and suggestions. His prices are competitive and fair. Thanks for everything Scott!
If you are looking for a professional, knowledgeable and dependable electrician, call Scott at West LA Electric. i called a few places, before reaching Scott, and it was completely frustrating. Scott made my experience pleasant, was extremely prompt, and did an amazing job for a reasonable price. he suggested creative options to hang my pendants, that i wouldn't have thought of. he is proactive and cheerful. you won't be disappointed with Scott. call him.
I'm so glad that I found Scott because he is fantastic! He knows his stuff and is very reasonably priced. I hired Scott to replace my bathroom fan, add an outdoor outlet, switched out a security light and a few other items. Not only did he fix or add what I hired him for, but he also fixed some other problems that he discovered along the way. He is very easy to talk to and will answer any question you have. He more than lived up to those reviews and I would definitely recommend him for any of your electrical needs.
Scott and his team did a great job. They showed up on time, did the job as promised, and charged a reasonable price. I highly recommend West LA Electric.

I hired WLA Electric to install a Level 2 (240 volt) charger for our Chevy Volt. Scott came out promptly, assessed the situation and wrote up the bid. We have an old panel and Scott pointed out that the DWP field rep was incorrect that service could only be provided by upgrading the panel, which would have been cost prohibitive (as opposed to bypassing the panel to an entirely separate meter, directly from the pole). Scott and his crew were friendly and patient with my questions. They finished the work on time and matched a fixed budget I provided from the Chevy dealer's local vendor, who I opted not to hire. In addition, WLA Electric cleaned up the old panel and separately took care of a number of minor other issues on my list, including running new circuits to our kitchen and troubleshooting/repairing an exterior outlet and landscape lights. I wouldn't hesitate to hire WLA Electric for future work.
