I have been an electrician for almost 40 years and received my contractors license in Jan of 2004 and work with 3 of my sons. We work on all projects from small remodels/rewires to the new construction of custom homes to commercial / light industrial buildings. We have experience in all aspects/phases of electrical construction and take enormous pride in my work. All work completed to code and is guaranteed. All YELP customers receive 10% off. I offer 24hr emergency service and can usually provide same day service. I also carry $1,000,0000 liability insurance on all my work.

I have worked for many electrical and construction companies since 1985. I've worked on everything from custom homes to small remodels. I started my career working for several small companies wiring homes in the Palisades Highlands in the mid 1980's. I then started working for a construction company in Santa Monica doing condo conversions and small remodels in Beverly Hills in the early 1990's. I then worked for myself for some years on homes in Palos Verdes before becoming a serviceman for Santa Monica Electric Co. For over 5 years I handled all their troubleshooting and repair for almost all their customers, from homeowners to property management companies to all their restaurant clients. No matter what the scope of work I've done it before.

Born and raised in West L.A / Santa Monica / Venice area since 1965. Started doing electrical work in the late 1980s and continued working for several local electrical contractors thru the 1990s until obtaining my C10 electrical contracting license in 2004. Moved out to the south bay in early 90s to raise my boys. I am the father of 6 sons aging from 6 yrs old to 34 yrs old, 3 of my sons currently work for me and are outstanding electricians. We had a really loud surge of electricity, followed by a complete blackout in our apartment which is a part of a triplex. South Bay Electric came highly recommended by one of the other tenants and I'm so glad that Ian and his sons showed up. Turns out the wiring was so old it was from when the house was built in the 1930's and was completely not wired to code. Anyone of us could have been electrocuted!
Thankfully, SBEC was there to save the day and all 3 units were completely rewired. They even installed my wired ring cameras for next to nothing because the job was so big! Ian and his sons were very professional, all the breakers were labeled for each circuit which I was happy about and I would not hesitate to recommend them for any of your electrical needs.

I called last week for power connection issue from the street pole to the house. I sent a photo and was quoted a price. Today the electrician showed up connected the electrical and were efficient and kind. I'm so appreciative !
Didn't know where to start with a few electrical needs... left a vmail and Ian called right back after business hours in the evening. He was super responsive, honest, and helpful.
Was looking to move some outlets for a wardrobe to be build but changed my mind after his teams professional opinion.

it was awesome to work with Ian and Derek. Ian coached me through the whole process and said what we needed/didn't need. He was great at communicating and Derek arrived promptly. the work was done as expected and Derek left the work area spotless! For all future electrical needs we'll definitely be going back to them.

Ian and his team were super responsive in taking care of the electrical problems after an SCE transformer issue took out several pieces of equipment and rendered some circuits inoperable. They showed up promptly at the time window promised, diagnosed the issue and made the repairs needed safely and professionally.
I was installing recessed light myself and accidently drilled water pipes. I decided to hire professionals and found this company on Yelp. I called the number on Sunday morning and left a message. After 30 minutes, i received a phone call from Ian and he scheduled next day. It was quick and easy set up. My technician, Dru showed up and he went thru all the details. Finally, eight recessed lights were beautifully installed. I might need their help again to install additonal recessed lights. Only thing that makes me hesitate is the pricing. Maybe it is a reasonable market price, but it was a little more than I expected. Overall i am happy with their quality and service!
Ian is still doing his thang! He's doing it the right way. Once again I had an electrical question and instead of overcharging me he picked up the phone and talked me through it. He's definitely worth hiring for anything electrical related. It's no secret how he keeps getting 5 star reviews, he's up front and honest about what needs to be done. Call him if you want a fair price and good work!
I needed an electrician to come out and replace a 220 EV outlet that failed. SBEC came out and replaced it within a few days. Everything is back to normal now thanks to SBEC.

I was having issues with the power in my living room while the rest of the house had no power problems. I reset the breaker multiple times to no avail. I contacted the business and was called back by Ian shortly. Right away, he advised me over the phone on how to potentially locate the issue, how to resolve it safely and offered to continue assisting by texting or calling him for questions. He did say if all else failed, he can send someone out to resolve it. I was able to solve the problem by following his advice without having to use any tools.
I was referred to Ian by a friend for my EV wall charger installation. A great experience all around that started with quick responsiveness for a quote and easy scheduling for an appointment on a day that I could work from home. The crew was punctual and arrived on the earlier side of the time window. They were knowledgeable and walked me through the options for locating the EV wall charger. Once we agreed on the location, they were very efficient and cleaned up after themselves. I would not hesitate to recommend South Bay Electric.
Derrick and Cory were amazing guys! They came, they diagnosed my problem with my ceiling lights, replaced bulbs and switches and were done! So great!!
Was able to call Ian at 7am and he scheduled me the same day because my fridge and other kitchen appliances had no power. His son Derek arrived and immediately knew it was one of the outlets that caused them all to short out. He rewired the faulty outlet and replaced a bad dimmer switch within less than an hour, and that included a trip to home depot. Will definetely use this company again. A++.
For the last 10 years or so South Bay Electric has been my go to for any electrical problems. From the beginning Ian has been super responsive and quick to get his guys out. The first time I contacted him he was on vacation (camping I believe) and he was still communicating via text, requesting pictures, etc. I recently moved to a new home and had a problem that needed addressing. Shot Ian a text and he had his guys out the same day. 10 years later and he's maintained that same level of service. I highly recommend South Bay Electric.

Quick response and able to come the next day and fix some issues with a breaker. Switched out some old fluorescent lights to LED and it looks great! Recommend!
Our electricity went out. South Bay sent out a technician the day we called which was a holiday - Presidents Day. The technician investigated, found a panel I was unaware of and fixed the problem. He was there for well over an hour testing outlets and ensuring a fully operating system. I was expecting a multi-hour charge for the time he was there. Yet he only charged me the minimum 1 hour charge, which is quite reasonable. I will use South Bay for any future electrical issues or projects.

Ian is an owner of this company. Called Saturday morning and he responded right away. Before coming out to my place, he try to help me over the phone as much as he could. I really liked that.
I needed more help and his team came on Monday and didn't give up until they found the problem. Ian is very responsible and very knowledgeable of this work.definitely recommend to others.

I had some electrical issues with my garbage disposal and they diagnosed it and fixed it.

Daryck and Dru came out today and replaced two bathroom fans, 2 bathroom light fixtures, installed a dimmer switch and Ring Floodlight Camera. They were very knowledgeable and professional and did a beautiful job. We appreciate the time they took to explain how things worked and made sure the job was done to our satisfaction. The price was reasonable just as Ian quoted previously. We will definitely be using their services again in the future and recommending them to anyone in need of an electrician. I called this morning at 8:00 AM and left a message. My call was returned quickly. Two guys were here by 11:17 AM and resolved my circuit breaker issue. Total cost $279. I liked everything about this company. They will be coming back to install an outdoor outlet. I am so relieved to have a trustworthy electrician as a resource now. Highly recommend.

Ian was right about what was wrong with my flickering electrical system from the beginning. He answered all queries and calls right away, getting LADWP out to pull my meter and then removing and replacing the socket that same day.

I had a couple issues with GFI outlets in the kitchen, so I called and spoke with Ian. I sent over a couple photos and he immediately called me back to go over options and pricing. He dispatched Dru that afternoon and he arrived right on time. Dru was professional, polite and took the time to explain everything that was needed. We needed various electrical work at our home: Installation of two ceiling fans with lights, upgrading of electrical sub panel, GFI electrical
outlets inserted, new electrical power for microwave (did not exist previously) and for back porch area (also didn't exist previously), installation of sensor lights outside of garage, rewiring of bad wiring in garage, addition of another wall outlet in living room. This family owned company (South Bay Electric) did everything we asked. The worked hard and diligently. Dru and Tyler performed beyond our expectations under the guidance of the owner, Ian Marsh. They worked in a timely manner and did very good work. Also, we feel the pricing was more than fair. We are so glad that we found them and would use them again for future needs. We had a list of things that needed to be taken care of starting with needing ceiling lights installed in my bedroom. The kids bathroom shower light went out and needed to be replaced. I didn't realize the new lighting does not have an actual lightbulb that needs to be replaced. It's an LED light that you toss and replace with a whole new set up.
Our backyard lights never worked from the time we moved in. I enjoy working in the yard so I figured it was time to have the lights fixed.
I left a message for Ian and he returned my call. That was a super start! He asked for pictures of the things I needed fixed. Then he texted me an estimate right away. I scheduled his soonest available appt (for today). Tyler and Daryck showed up and took care of everything. They work well as a team and were great at giving me choices about how I could go about fixing everything. I really appreciated their opinions and am thankful they were available. I will definitely recommend them to family and friends. It's rare to find people who actually know what they are doing and finish what they promise.

Really happy with the job Ian and his son, Tyler, did for our unit. Even before they came on site, Ian was in close communication through text/calls about a potential ceiling fan installation and ceiling light replacement. He did a great job explaining potential pitfalls based on photos I had sent him to make sure there were no surprises if anything came up during installation. I appreciated that knowledge base and upfront-ness.
The day came and the installation went off without a hitch! They showed up when they said they would and did a great job. Tyler tagged in to finish up as Ian went to take care of family and everything went just as smoothly. Tyler's work was very thorough and he was very patient and detailed in answering any questions I had about what he was doing. Which, by the way, is a trait he and his father share.

had a main breaker issue. Ian was able to send his son Tyler twice. Once to diagnose the issue, and the 2nd time to fix it. They do not try to make money off of you, and they truly care about their work. They could have marked up a breaker and sold it to me, but they helped me find the correct breaker on ebay(it was an old electric box). They also give honest suggestions and advice, as if it were their own home. I fully trust what they do and I've spent a good amount of time with Tyler on helping him fix some issues so I can see that it is not an easy job and they still get it done.
Tyler in particular I can tell was raised right, and you can tell he is a good person overall which is hard to come by these days. The only thing I wish is that they could do more than electric stuff. :) Can't say enough great things about this company and with all these 5 star reviews, i'm glad I'm not the only one. When Ian retires I know we'll all be in good hands with Tyler and his brothers!!!
We got excellent service from South Bay Electric Company in the past, so we know who to call for all our electrical repair and improvement needs. Among other jobs performed for us this time, Tyler and Drew replaced two faulty GFCI outlets for the landscape lights. When they noticed an outdated and unnecessary outlet/switch combination inside the house that cuts off power to the outside outlets, they suggested and replaced it with a regular outlet.
The bigger job they did was to add a motion-sensitive security light to the side of the garage. Tyler helped us decide where to install the light and what features to choose when buying it. They also removed a useless light fixture outside the garage side door.
As we have always experienced with South Bay Electric Company, the end result looked and worked great. The indoor connections and outdoor fixture installation look totally professional. Their teamwork is exceptional and I'm sure it contributes to their efficiency and reliability.

UPDATE: After three years, I started having issues charging my EV (gave warnings about reduced charging and increased heat even though it's winter)
I had another electrician into it and found out that the connections weren't terminated properly as there was some shielding around still. After stripping it and re-punching it down, it fixed my charging issues.
I'm guessing all the jiggling of the charger overtime loosened the connection and is why I am updating my review as it wouldn't have been a problem if it was punched down properly to begin with.

Our new tankless needed a plug installed and Ian, Drew and Corey handled that quickly and efficiently and the service was cost effective. I can't say enough about Ian and his team. They are amazing. When you call you are give a real estimate of when they are coming and then they show up when they say they will which is half the battle. Ian and his team came to a mess stayed way longer than I thought and made sure I had power. They save us from a day and night of no internet and no tv. They checked everything twice and than called to make sure it was all good. I will always call them. By the way he for sure under charged me for being there half the day. Not that it would matter the thought of my kids not having internet or tv I would have paid anything to save that battle.

Honesty above all! This is the first time that I have a contractor provide me with his recommendation over the phone and advice me that I didn't need the work performed. I called Ian regarding some items that were called out on a home inspection. Ian (without knowing me) suggested I send over the pictures and comments. He review them, called me back and gave me his honest answer and took time to educate me. It's rare to see this type of honesty and help. He didn't even charge me for the consultation; he could have said that I needed the work. Thank you Ian. You will have my business moving forward.
I thought I wasn't getting power to my doorbell. Ian first offered to help me over the phone to check the transformer. I declined saying I didn't want to mess with it. He came out the following Monday and determined I was actually getting power. Cheerful, prompt and courteous and NO CHARGE for the trip. I will definitely call them next time I need help.

Ian sent Dru to fix our ceiling light and door bell. SCE had power line transformer failure which caused these problem. Dru fixed these problem quickly and he is very helpful and willing to check any other problems if needed. I am very happy with his work and service. I definitely will ask South Bay Electric Co. for future house electrical needs.

I called Ian about getting a dedicated 240volt recepticle installed for an EV charger. He was one of many I called. He actually had me send him pictures of the electrical panel and spent at least 10 minutes on the phone to makes sure he knew what I needed. He offered a number options until we agreed on the best one.
He came on time, he and his son were courteous, professional and friendly. The job went in without a hitch. He even installed the bracket needed to affix the charger to the wall even though it was not in the scope of the original plan. Thanks Ian!!!

Great and quick work to install ground wires for pre-existing RFI plugs. Worked to find minimally invasive wiring route for ground wires. Left everything clean, neat, and working great. Really reasonable price. I recommend and will use again for my next electrical need.

Drew showed up on time , we went to the garage so I could show him what I needed done he explained all that would be done so I could understand it. We needed some work done in our kitchen because the current circuit layout was overloaded and we needed to make changes to the breaker box. We had a couple of people come by but no one even came close to truly understanding what to do better than Ian and his son. They planned the job right and executed it perfectly. We need people like you. I had originally called B&M ELECTRIC and instead of listening to what I needed fixed they said I needed all new wiring for $32,000! CRAZY!! Love, love South Bay Electric Company. That's how you keep lifelong customers! Being honest, fair and not greedy!
I ordered appliances from Home Depot and thought I was taking the convenient route by also arranging installation with them. Lesson learned. They aren't installers. They deliver them and plug them in. That's IF your existing appliances aren't hardwired. Ian and his surgical assistants came out and changed my hardwired stove and range hood to plugs. They were professional, knowledgeable and entertaining. Ian knows his stuff, clearly, and got the job done quickly without leaving any mess.
I really hope I don't have anymore electrical issues, but at least now I have a good electrician.

I needed to do an electrical panel upgrade and I came to Yelp to find a good electrician. I ended up going with South Bay Electrical Company based upon their 300+ five star reviews. I spoke to the owner Ian and he told me the most inexpensive way to go about it would be to get an owner-builder permit. Over the phone, he walked me through the process of applying for the permit. After going to city hall and securing the permit, Ian and his crew (Drew and Ian's two sons Tyler and Derek) started in on the job. They were polite and worked efficiently. The job spilled over into the next day because some parts they needed were not readily available. After completing the work, it easily passed inspection and I felt the price Ian charged was very fair. I highly recommend South Bay Electric Company and I will not hesitate to call them in the future if/when needed.

Had them put in can lights in living room. Responded quickly, gave competitive pricing via text, I just had to send pictures of the room. Showed up when they said they would and knocked it out quickly and cleanly. Definitely good at what they do. Added value by recommending remote switches that don't require wiring or have to damage the wall and I can use through Alexa, genius! The lights they installed are easily adjustable for color temperature and brightness, really flexible. I like to pick local contractors and they're just a couple of miles from me, support local business! Highly recommended. Let there be light!
Contacted Ian for some work in a remodeled bathroom. They responded right away, we agreed to a date and time, they came, replaced switch, GF outlet and light fixture with no problem. Working with wiring in an old house has it's problems, but they were able to master them and give us a good result... per usual. We have used them many times and will continue because, they are the best. Thanks Ian and Tyler, we do appreciate your work and always accommodating us on last minute notice.
Ian showed up with his partner and they were great. Efficient, quick, knowledgeable and fairly priced. They reconnected a sub-pump to the hard wired box and even grounded the outlet for us since the previous handyman couldn't. Best of all, NO DRAMA. :-)

Ian and his crew did a good job. I was looking for someone local to install a couple of exterior light fixtures on the side of my house. Ian gave me a call back and a ballpark estimate based on our conversation. At his request, I texted a few pictures of the area in question. He then gave me a more specific cost range. After a bit more back and forth, we set the job up for the very next week. He gave me an arrival window of 2 hours, and showed up as on time and ready to go.
He had two helpers with him, and they all got right to work. The were polite, professional and maintained COVID-19 precautions. They were done quicker than I anticipated. I'm very happy with the final result. It's just as I imagined it should be.

If you want a honest, reliable and professional electrician, look no further and go with South Bay Electric Company. It's a family operation with Ian and his sons and they are all courteous, professional and honest.
They will do what is best for the customer and not what is best for their pocket book. That says a lot.
They have a very pragmatic approach to solve your electrical needs and not solely motivated by their pocket books. That is so rare these days and it really is appreciated.
Their work is thorough and professional and they clean up very well when it's all done.
They are very busy however (i.e. they're in high demand cause they do good work) so can't always get them on the phone immediately but they always do eventually get back to you.
We're so happy to have found this company and we would not hesitate to always use them for our electrical needs and recommend them to friends and family!
Ian and his son Daryck fixed the outside outlets that powered my water system. They replace and rewired some burnt out wires, installed a new breaker and installed a new outlet. I was very happy with their work and they were very considerate in mask wearing. I would recommend them for electrical work on residential properties.
SBEC helped us with a sub-panel replacement for our kitchen remodel. Ian was very knowledgeable, helpful, and honest. We had several electricians come out to help us assess how to upgrade our electricity for our home and Ian by far did the best job of explaining the best course of action and did so at a reasonable price. My husband also called Ian on a couple of occasions with additional questions and each time, Ian made time to talk to him and make sure he had all the information we needed to make the right decisions.
On the day of, his guys replaced our panel and added some additional outlets in a few hours. They did an excellent job of cleaning up after themselves and we are very happy with their work. We will definitely be using them again if we need additional electrical work and would recommend them.

My tenant said she smells burn in her unit. I First call RM Electric but had to leave a message I then called South Bay Electric company and Ian answered my call while he was driving.. His son came the same day and checked the breaker but found everything fine except the dust. He cleaned it and problem solved.
Good work, honest and fair pricing. Overall, I would recommend him to anyone who needs electrician.

These guys did a fantastic job upgrading our panel and fixing some other outdated electrical stuff in our home.
They tried to walk me through a DIY fix to save me money. But when it became apparent I needed help they came and fixed the problem quickly and at a reasonable rate.

I can highly recommend South Bay Electric Company. Ian, the owner, is a very nice guy and easy to work with. He is honest, knowledgeable and efficient, and his prices are very fair and reasonable. He freely offer suggestions of things that we can do on our own to save money.
We were doing a kitchen remodel, and we needed to upgrade the electrical circuits to support the higher amperage requirements of the new electric wall oven and induction cooktop. The first electrician to give us an estimate recommended we replace the entire electrical panel and install new wiring for the oven and cooktop. This would be a substantial expense we hadn't planned on.
Then I saw all of the 5-Star reviews for South Bay Electric Company on Yelp and decided to give them a call. Ian took our call and came out promptly to survey the situation. The first thing he told us was that the least expensive solution would be to select different appliances that wouldn't require an electrical upgrade. I could tell from his half-serious/half-joking comment that he wasn't the type that would try to upsell us for something we didn't actually need. I told him that we'd already fallen in love with the appliances of our choice, and we wanted to go ahead and upgrade the amperage as needed. He inspected the panel and said he was familiar with the brand and model year, and he said it would not need replacement, since it was well built and had a very good service history. He recommended installing new higher amperage circuit breakers and new conduit for the oven and cooktop, and his quote was less than half of that for the full panel replacement from the other electrician.
Ian was very flexible in coordinating his schedule with the other tasks that were in progress for the remodeling project. He and two of his sons came out to do the job. They were very quick and efficient, did a great job, and cleaned up afterwards. He sent one of his sons up into the attic on a pretty hot day to pull the new conduit cables through to the kitchen area. When the job was finished he gave us the final bill, and it was even less than his already reasonable initial estimate!
Just recently we had a very small job to replace a hanging ceiling lamp and install a dimmer switch. Ian squeezed us into his schedule and came out with his son the very next day. They were in-and-out in less than an hour at a very reasonable cost. He also made suggestions for how to easily upgrade the recessed lighting in the same room on my own.
I'm happy to have found an honest, experienced and reliable electrician that we can depend on for all our future electrical projects by calling Ian at South Bay Electric Company.
Ian and his team came to add some exterior outlets on my house. The work was fast, clean and looks good. I would definitely recommend Ian for any electrical needs.
I had a power outage that short circuit my electric oven. I had the oven replace but to make sure it doesn't happen again, I would need some surge protection. Ian was nice enough to answer my questions and provided a solution using a home surge protection. When it was time to do the job, Ian and his team was well skilled. He asked me to send pictures before he came so he can access the work and how long it will take. He said it should not take more than an hour and he was right. He did a fine job and was in and out.
Great experience. They wore masks the whole time. Ian found the problem quickly and fixed it within minutes. They made sure everything was working properly before leaving and offered to clean everything up.
Ian and his team are awesome. We've been looking for a local electrician for a small job and Ian responded right away to our outreach. We were able to schedule a day/time quickly and his team arrived right on time and were able to take care of our issue.

I spoke to Ian over the phone, and he helped to trouble shoot an electrical issue over the phone without even having had to come out to our property. After calling several companies and getting a quote, all the electricians charged a min fee of at least $150 just for coming out - no matter how big or small a job. With Ian, he was sincere and very helpful. He saved us so much money by following 3 simple solutions which we had no clue about, and didn't even charge us for it. Wow - now that's a person I can trust going forward for all my electrical issues. Thank you Ian.
I have had two other companies come to see if they could fix my flickering bathroom light over the past 2 years and both companies weren't exactly sure what was wrong. I jumped onto YELP and found all the good reviews for South Bay Electric. I called and left a message and Ian phoned back almost immediately. We agreed by sharing pictures, potentially what the problem was and he made some recommendations over the phone. Gave me some options to consider and agreed to send a team over to see what could be done. I had Tyler and Vincent arrive the very next afternoon. They quickly assessed the issue/concerns I had with a bad lighting and the potential replacement of some bathroom heaters. Within 20 minutes the flickering light issue was resolved by removing the fluorescent light bulbs and ballast (spelling?) and replacing them with LED bulbs. Both Tyler and Vincent arrived in Covid 19 compliant face coverings; not that I cared and were very nice, professional and did their best to consult me about the problems I was having. They repaired the main issue quickly and gave me some information to consider about the heater replacements. I would highly recommend this company. I found Ian on Yelp. I called him after a project fail and needed some advice. I called him after 6 pm and he got back to me the same night. He offered to come out the next day. I did not have time so he agreed to viewing a few pics via text.
Ian answered all of my questions and provide invaluable help.
It is good to know that there are still good people & service! Ian will be the first person I call for my next project.
My parents' house was having electricity coming off and on in two of the bedrooms and we knew it had to do with the breakers. We first called an electrician Ina Torrance and left a message. Then we called South Bay Electric Company and Ian answered immediately. I talked to him about the problem and he asked some questions. There were issues of when he could come out but to make a long story short, one of his sons was able to take care of the problem very quickly.
The reason they don't get 5 stars from me is because during our initial conversation and even with our second conversation Ian couldn't give me a set day when he could make it out to the house. He said he would let me know the day before if they would be able to come by the next day. That didn't sit well with me because we are all busy and who has time to sit around and wait for him to decide on short notice when he could do the job. I was very honest with my concern and Ian respected that and finally explained to me the struggles he had on his end. We were able to set up a 2 hour time frame.
It would have been awesome if he had been more upfront from the beginning. But we'll let bygones be bygones.
He is very receptive to text messaging which is a definite plus for me. Would definitely call Ian for any future electrical concerns
Extremely trustworthy. Before coming over, he asked me about the details and to send him a picture of my problem. He diagnosed my problem over the phone and got it fixed free of charge.
He could've easily shown up for a house call and made easy money, but instead he has the customer's best interests in mind.
I'm definitely using him in the future!
Ian and his son came to my house and switched out a dining chandelier, flush mount, sconce and changed some switches that didn't work. They were quick and efficient. Highly recommend and that you can trust them! Reasonable prices too!

I was glad to support this local company for a couple of needs including my EV charger hard wired installation. I initially sent Ian pictures and video of the proposed job and he was able to anticipate all materials to make the installation seamless. He was even able to setup my generator for backup electricity in case of power outage. I had a minor question after the job and he called back in a timely manner. Ian is good at what he does and the overall pricing was very reasonable.
Called South Bay Electric and Ian sent his sons out to take care of our concerns. The work was done within the time frame quoted and no extra drawn out cost. They did a great job. Will call and recommend them in the future.

I just purchased a condo and the inspector advised me to have the electrical box required correctly. Ian showed up on time with his apprentices (his sons) and got to work immediately. Ian was respectful of property, genuine, and kind. He was more than happy to explain what he was doing as he was doing it and explained the final result. His friendliness and warmth was a big plus.
It really made my heart happy to see Ian being a great dad and preparing his kids to take over the family business some day, felt great supporting a local family-owned business. The price point was wonderful and I was expecting to pay much more than the final price.

Ian's employee showed up on time with a mask (wore it the whole time) and helped us find the problem and fixed it. Price was completely reasonable. Will use Ian's team again in the future for our electrical needs.
Great experience with Ian in getting some small upgrades done to a new home. (Bathroom fans, ceiling fans, light fixtures and new switches). He had honest answers to my questions about some additional panel upgrades (unnecessary for now) and had very reasonable rates. Everything he did worked the first time and haven't had any issues with the quality of the work.
I called this morning around 9am. Ian was able to send his son to my house to fix the problem at 6pm the same day. Reasonable price and good communication.

I needed a ceiling fan switched out, and while other electricians in the area were telling me the earliest available appointment was in July, I found South Bay Electric Company who were able to come same day!
Ian is very knowledgable. He's professional and friendly. Very honest and reliable. Easy to work with. Quoted us for a fraction of a big company in the same area to do a panel upgrade. Ian made himself available to talk to the inspector during the inspection. Good work. Would recommend.
I have a power issue at my rental unit. The lights flicker and power fluctuates every 2-3 years. Each time the electrician I hired came and replaced a 2-pole breaker and the issue goes away but then after a couple years the issue resurfaced; the last set of breakers only lasted 1 month. I called Ian, who immediately says the breaker may not be the right type for the power bars. Ian also suggests that the power bars may need to be replaced due to previous arching caused by poor contact, and he knows where to find spare parts. My property has two units and tenants work from home, to replace the power bars both units may be out of power for a day while Ian gets the replacement bars. At the time of this review, although I have not been able to arranged a time between my tenants and Ian to perform the repair, I have gained high confidence that Ian really knows his stuff. I look forward to have him work on my power panel so I won't have to worry about this recurring issue for a long long time. In the mean time, my retired electrician friend has helped me locate a breaker that has a more tapered connectors for the power bars, hopefully this temporary fix will buy us some time until the repair can be done by Ian.
Received a cryptic message from a rental tenant suggesting that the power had gone out in their house and the breaker box had shocked them when approached.
Ian made him and his sons available the day of and were able to quickly diagnose the issue. After addressing the issue at the breaker box, they followed me through the house to ensure everything was in working order. They even found and corrected a faulty connection at an outlet; service went above and beyond.

I had a great experience with Ian and his crew. I called him up for a quote for recessed light installation and told him that I wanted them to match what I have already. So he suggested that I order them myself to save on the cost and he will just install them with hourly rates. He even helped me with where I can get them. I ended up saving over $200 at the end (vs the normal rate of $150 per can), so I can tell you that he's not out to rip you off.
It took a few tries to get the appointment due to circumstances beyond his control, but once we set a time and date, he arrived promptly on time and finished the job to our satisfaction. They took careful measurements to line up the lights to our existing installation, working on different parts of the job to reduce idle time, and cleaned up nicely after themselves.
Highly recommended! I would use them again if I ever needed another electrical service.

I needed my electrical panel upgraded, I had a Federal Pacific Electric Panel. I did the usual Yelp search to find an electrician. As I like to support local businesses, and saw they had great reviews, I ended up calling Ian, from SBEC. He came by to give me an estimate, and from our interaction I knew he was the right person for the job.
Ian and his crew came to work on upgrading the panel on the day that we agreed. He took care of the permitting which was a plus for me! They also worked on 2 GFCI switches and installed a light fixture.
His team adhered to the COVID guidelines and they were easy to communicate with.
If anything should arise, I would gladly call them again for any electrical needs in my house. I will also recommend them to friends and family.

Last fall we purchased a new house with a vintage 1954, 75 amp electrical panel. We weren't even sure it would support our modern lifestyle minus that A/C that we plan to install over the summer. A stranger on a Facebook group referred us, and we couldn't be more grateful! Ian explained that in order to give me an accurate quote on the panel upgrade, I first needed to call SC Edison for a meter spot. The quote came in at the expected price, and Ian answered all of our questions so well, we didn't really even bother to shop around. Ian took care of the permitting which involved many headaches due to issues with the city's website and the city contact's email account. His sons came out and did the work, dealing with all of the strange, odd issues with our house and our wet crawl space. And the increased price from unexpected complications was still amazing!
We are getting ready to add a disconnect for the new A/C and some additional electrical outlets, and we anticipate that South Bay Electric Company will continue to be our reliable, trusted, company for all our future electrician related needs and referrals!

Ian was honestly the only electrician who even bothered responding to me and followed up, after I had already reached out to several other companies. I really can't recommend these guys enough, they arrived on time and made several really good suggestions for security cam type/placement, and also regarding recessed lighting I wanted to replace a super low hanging chandelier. They finished installing a doorbell and thermostat for me in minutes, and I'm having them back again to help with the cameras and lighting ASAP.
Definitely calling SBEC again for any electrical work I need done in the future!
Oh my I deeply thankful for this company. My garbage disposal caught on fire and kept smoking at 2am in the morning. The smoke was coming up through the sink so I thought maybe a fire was starting in my wall. I called and the owner sent his son in the am. They checked my wiring and it was good. They are soo honest and reasonably priced. I highly recommend them. It's very hard to find trustworthy people these days but this father and son are just that. Ok, so don't usually have this experience but I called Ian at 9 pm on weekday night to try and coordinate changing an outlet I have to a safer GFCI (yeah I know some lingo). He said he wouldn't be available until Thursday but did offer to give me tips on how to hook up the new outlet myself, fancy that.
I texted him a picture and he called me back with detailed instructions on what wire goes where. My plug was a little funky so I went to work and sadly, couldn't get the new plug working. I texted Ian back (at 7 AM the next morning) and he called me right away explaining the simple fix (GFCI's need a super hard hit on the reset button to trip the device which I did not know). I did what Ian suggested and it worked!
While I didn't get to hire these guys directly, they were super responsive and kind and helped me get my issue fixed. Will keep them in mind for future electrical work unless they want to keep training me :)

They were extremely helpful at installing a chandelier for the staircase and reasonably priced. I would highly recommend them and will be using them in the future for our electrical needs.
I contacted South Bay Electric Company to install an Electric Vehicle charger. I received a quick response from Ian who tried to give me an approximate quote via photo and video (which I appreciated). My job was a bit more complex, so Ian came out and gave me a reasonable quote and suggested an installation option that was $2000 less than an other quote I got. Two days later, my charger was installed.
What more can you ask for? Reasonable prices, good service, and people who show up on time.
My property mangement company uses SBE and recomended them for some work I needed at my primary residence.
They came out to replace several light fixtures.
They were on time, courteous, professsional and I'm happy with the work they did.
We installed a mini split system and I needed electrical run to it from my panel and feared the worst (that I would need a bigger panel installed). Ian looked at it and said he could do it with replacing the breakers with a newer style, doing some rearranging and installing the new circuit. He came when scheduled, absolutely knows what he is doing and did a really great job at a reasonable price. Ian is a very good and fair electrician.

My husband called Ian this morning at 9:50 because we overloaded the circuit breaker. Ian asked my husband to take a picture of the circuit breaker box and send it to him. He called back and told my husband exactly what to do and VOILA!!! Everything is back and and running by 9:52. We'll definitely call him anytime we have any electrical problems. Outstanding service! Ian made sure my electrical issue was resolved in a timely and professional manner. I have a new go-to electrician who is knowledgeable and reasonably priced.
Well, my lights came on by themselves and started flickering like they were possessed. It was like something out of a cheesy ghost movie. Now I've changed a few switches and outlets and installed a ceiling fan and whatnot but this was above my pay grade. Time to call in the experts and I called Ian. He answered my call and was at my location 7 minutes ahead of the appointed time. A punctual contractor? Get outta here! But seriously, he was nice and upon surveying the situation quickly diagnosed the feedback problem and changed out the GCFI outlet causing the problems. In and out in 40 minutes. It was ultimately something I could have fixed myself, but what I paid for was his experience and my peace of mind. I highly recommend him and would not hesitate to use him again in the future.
Five-star shop. Ian and team were incredibly responsive and helpful, and came out right away to assist with our (relatively minor) electrical needs with a smile and prompt, professional efficiency. We'll be a recurring customer for sure!

I needed a security motion light installed outside and naturally I called Ian. He answered my call right a way. I had called him 7 months ago and he was able to troubleshoot the problem by phone without a service call. Even the SCE person stated that he was an honest electrician as he was able to troubleshoot without having to come out. I initially found his name on Yelp and noted all the 5 star reviews. Ian's son came out one day to remove 2 old lights and Ian came a few days later to install the new light. He and his worker are professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. I called him as he is honest and I trust him. So hard to find honest people who don't gouge you nowadays. I will keep his number and will ALWAYS use him for any electrical needs.
Ian is great. Always professional and helpful. We appreciate that he is always trying to troubleshoot by phone first before coming out. Highly recommend if you are in need of an electrician!

Thank you so much for your excellent and professional work done at my home. I had a dishwasher and washing machine stop working at the same time. Turns out , the circuit they were both running on went bad. The circuit was replaced and given their own breaker.
I also had the tech check a plug that has never worked and was told by another company that I could not ever have electricity to that plug...South Bay Electric Co, fixed it in 10 minutes and I now have electricity to that plug. I would say the tech definitely knew what he was doing and I will definitely call them for any future work !

I was out of town, So Bay Electric helped me out on my rental property after Thanksgiving. They were very responsive . They spoke to my tenant and handled the electrical emergency while I was away .
They have done some work for me in the past. I find them very reliable.
I don't give 5's out frequently, but after taking everyones else's reviews into account, I called SBEC and they made a time that worked for me, showed up in time, bid they allotted time correctly and they were friendly and problem solved as they went along and got all the work done in 1 trip which I super appreciate. Will call them again if I need to. You should too.

Our power went out and we had no heat. It was night and raining. Ian was quick to arrive and help us restore power and heat to our house. Other companies wouldn't come out. But he came to our house at 8pm.

Ian is very knowledgeable and resolved our issue. Would highly recommend him. He did a very thorough inspection to make sure everything was working fine once he was done.
My garage door opener wouldn't work and I figured out it was power-related. Looking for an electrician on Yelp, I couldn't miss all of the five-star reviews here, all posted just this year. And it's only April! So I called and Ian picked up. Long story short, he helped me troubleshoot how to resolve my problem in order to help me NOT pay for a service visit. Imagine that! He even asked me to send him pictures of my garage area to help me find a panel or outlet he wanted me to find. I did, kept searching, then he called me back and with his helpful questioning, I finally found the panel (it was outside), reset the breakers and my problem was solved! Fixed within an hour by just him helping me out over the phone. Read the rest of the reviews too if you're still skeptical, and then waste no time calling South Bay Electric to help you out. I've already shared his business with my friends to keep on hand if they ever have electrical issues too. Thanks again, Ian!
FANTASTIC SERVICE!! I had 9+ outlets go out on me and no idea why. I spoke to Ian and he walked me though resetting breakers, and GFI's but still nothing. His crew arrived and after 30 minutes found the problem. It turned out that the folks that remodeled by kitchen 2.5 years ago did a really poor job of securing wiring. The guys corrected the issues and made sure all areas they touched were clean and in order. Rates were reasonable and I plan to use them again in the near future.
The only thing to make service better would be to accept Apple Pay for payment.
Ian came to the rescue on his day off and fixed a power outage. We were stressed that we wouldn't be able to find anyone around the holidays. But, Ian was very understanding and came out on his day off! Very professional and knowledgeable! Reasonable pricing. We will definitely call him again!

So once again I had the pleasure and immense gratitude to have Ian and the staff at South Bay Electric Company fix my electrical repairs, professionally and efficiently. Being the homeowner of an older home and having purchased it from a DIY owner who cut many corners not only with upgrades but even the electrical work. Ian showed up as promised, quickly looked at the connections and realized that one of the other wires that were within the light fixture connections was not taped off and secured which then caused arching and shorted off the HVAC connection. I didn't realize it at the time as I never thought a bunch of other live wires were inside the box for some needed reason. Ian and his staff immediately made the repairs and we had our AC back just in time for our hot weather.

Had the opportunity to work with Ian and one of his sons to help with some issues that I had with old fixtures, relamping, and a burned out circuit. He addressed all problems well- even a couple that seemed to exceed physical limits (2' above grade with mangled screws to 12' above grade being held in place with silicon).
The price was fair, and I'm sure that Ian came away a little sore from the gymnastics he had to perform to take care of the various issues.

Ian is a great guy; very understanding and flexible in his scheduling. My wife and I were able to get an inspection and installation easily and the process was smooth. Even with some minor hiccups during the installation, not their fault we have a weird house, but we worked through it and got the doorbell installed in less than three hours. This is the second time we have used Ian's services. A year ago he put in outlets for an electric car charger and kiln. Did a great job. This time he sent his sons to wire a shed and install and exterior outlet, after we discussed the job fairly thoroughly through phone, text, and texted photos of the site. It is a nice way to do business because you are really talk through your needs without a pre- visit for an estimate. Ian is really reasonable and rational, and he is not the type to suggest excess things that are really unnecessary. His guys came on time and were great. I called SB electric to fix two switches that stopped working. The person I spoke with asked me to send pictures of the switches and the fixture so he would have the right switches when he came. The person who showed up had outlets instead of switches and had to leave to go to home depot to get the right hardware. After testing, he said my kitchen switch wasn't bad, but it was the disposal that didn't work and said he can't help with disposals. $113 to change one switch. Oh, and he said the $99'deal on yelp is a yelp thing and they won't honor it but did honor the 10% off for mentioning yelp. He was nice, and showed up on time, but I'm frustrated that half my problem is still here.

They called me back after and apologized for the confusion. They came right back and did some more testing and fixed the disposal switch, and honored the yelp price as well. Thanks for making it right!

I had a major and urgent problem with an appliance installed by a contractor. Not getting any response to my multiple messages, I opted to call South Bay Electric Company based on yelp reviews. I left a message on a week-end and Ian called me on Sunday night to squeeze me on Monday. Unfortunately, his already scheduled work took longer so he called me to let me know he will come the next day. Ian came and with his expertise, he fixed the problem. He is very knowledgable and if I need help in the future I will definitely call South Bay Electric Company again.

I was very impressed with how quickly Ian returned my call at which point we discussed the electrical problem I was having. He asked me to text a photo of the outlet where some smoke due to burning insulation/plastic was coming from and promptly set up an appointment time. Ian's two sons arrived during the agreed to timeslot and took care of my problem. They explained to me what the issue was and also identified a potential problem with a GFCI outlet which should have tripped before my circuit breaker tripped. They completed the work in a very timely manner and answered all questions I had. They also did a great job cleaning up the work area. I would definitely use Ian and his sons for any future electrical work a my home.
South Bay Electric came back yesterday to do more work, finalizing the repairs to our kitchen wiring issue. They installed a circuit to address overload, cleaned up sloppy wiring, installed garage lighting, and wired and installed another fan/light. Work areas were cleaner when they left than when they started!
The owner even helped me pick out garage lighting to meet my needs, which I was really grateful for. It ended up costing more, but the garage looks amazing now.
Gotta love professionals who do professional jobs right! I gave their info to both my neighbors who had similar circuit board issues.

I needed an electric vehicle charging station (EVSE) and a few outlets installed in my garage. I called South Bay Electric, and we made an appointment the next day for them to come out and do the work. Ian Marsh (the owner) arrived five minutes early to our appointment, and we discussed my electrical needs and the plan for the most efficient way to lay it out in my garage.
Shortly thereafter, we were joined by the rest of his crew, Derek and John. Ian kept his crew working quickly and efficiently, and they checked in with me frequently to make sure the work was completed to my satisfaction. In addition, the crew was very polite and respectful to both me and my property.
I was very apprehensive to hire an electrician since I've heard so many horror stories. However, Ian completed all of my electrical needs at a reasonable price. I've been living with the electrical for a few weeks and am still very happy.
I still need to get the work inspected to receive my EVSE rebate and will post an update to my review when the inspection is complete.
I would absolutely use South Bay Electric Company again when I need an electrician, and I've recommended them to two friends who also need EVSEs installed.

The power to the wall plugs in our kitchen went out. I called and spoke with Ian this morning. He and his son came by this afternoon from another job. Ian quickly determined that we had overloaded a 20 amp circuit. He replaced the burned breaker which immediately restored power to our kitchen outlets and made recommendations to us about how we could reduce the power load on the circuit by getting smaller and more efficient appliances. I turned on the tv only to see it lose power. In checking around the house, I had lost power to half of my outlets. I checked breaker and it appeared fine so I called South Bay Electric and left a message AND HE CALLED BACK. He arranged a time to come out. He discovered it was a short. He finally figured it out (after searching for several hours) then fixed the problem. The price was right, Ian and his son were great in keeping me up to date with the issues and they cleaned up after themselves. Overall, I would recommend him to anyone that needs an electrician.

South Bay Electric has now come out to my little 1924 house twice. Once to install some new light fixtures and repair one that wasn't working, and a second time to reroute the electrical wire running from my house to my garage so it went underground rather than hanging above people's heads. Quick response to my problem and excellent professional service. He took the time to patiently explain the issue that I was having with my breakers.
It's rare to find a business that goes above and beyond to help you, especially when the issue that I thought was an electrical problem turned out to be a problem with the garage door remote. Ian called me back and walked me through a couple of potential fixes for why my lights weren't coming on when the garage door would open, even after I had changed the bulbs. Turns out the metal tab that the bulbs screw into wasn't making contact anymore. I took a screwdriver as Ian recommended, pulled it out a little more and I now have lights again. Can't be more pleased with their service! This was my first time calling them, but it won't be my last. Ian saved me the cost of a repair visit by talking me through the problem over the phone. I had lost power to my kitchen and dinette area. I'd already flipped all the circuit breakers and GFI outlets. Ian asked about the kind of breakers I had then suggested I go back and flip the one that had been loose back and forth and until it clicked. I did that and the power came back on. The power went out in only one area in my Mom's home and since she is on Oxygen I needed it to be fixed quickly. Wonderful! Ian came to our place. WE HAD A BUDGET! Ian worked with our budget. We would have paid so much more. Ian and his team did great work! We thought our budget would only be for the garage side lights (SCONCES) and ONE outlet in our balcony! BOY WE WERE WRONG! He did everything you read and in our budget!
What did he do....
1. Installed a new outlet and prepped the wires so it won't be seen for my FLAT SCREEN LCD.
2. Installed outlet boxes for my balcony.
3. Looked at and FIXED my broken outdoor outlet (FOR FREE). He said it was just a loose wire and fixed it! Very honest!
4. My wife decided the night before to add lights to our garden. We didn't tell Ian until that morning. NO PROBLEM for him!
5. Installed a new outlet in the garage.
6. Installed the two lights (The side of the garage) See pictures above.
7. He even prepped it so that we can add a small fountain later in the future. (No charge)

I was having a problem with my gas oven which would turn off while on with no apparent reason. I had an appliance repair company come check it out and came up with a wrong diagnosis....he thought it was attributed to a short in the oven light. The fix was to tape the wire to the oven light switch which did not solve the problem.
So I turend to Yelp and found South Bay Electric Company. Explained the situation to Ian and set up an appointment. He took the time to listen to my situation and asked questions to make an assessment over the phone.
Derrick from his team came out on right on time at the appointed scheduled time. The problem was a bad circuit breaker. He replaced it with a new breaker and the problem was solved. I was only charged for the service call and no charge for the circuit breaker since I mentioned I found them on Yelp! Score! Thanks Ian. I will definitely refer your company to my friends, neighbors and relatives.
Recently purchased a new home and needed some electrical outlets upgraded. Once I called I was given cost saving information needed prior to my appointment with I found fantastic. I received an appointment the following week and Daryck came out. He arrived right on time and was very knowledgeable throughout our walk thru. I needed a motion-sensor light for my driveway. Ian took my call on a Friday at 6:00 p.m. and gave me a reasonable estimate. He showed up on time for my Tuesday appointment. He addressed the job in a way that was better than what I had in mind. He worked diligently, cleaned up thoroughly and even took a couple of extra steps to ensure that my light would operate reliably and that the whole area around it looked good.

Great Service! I needed two light fixtures installed, one in the garage and the other in the dinning room. Ian arrived with his son and got to work right away. I contacted three electric companies to get a quote for a problem that we were having with our outside lighting. Ian with South Bay Electric Company called me up and suggested we troubleshoot the issue to see if we needed electrical service. Wow - that's service! We ended up having Ian and Derek come out to put a new light sensor in. They arrived shortly after we tried to troubleshoot the issue. They were very pleasant, cleaned up after their work and were very honest in providing their opinions if work was necessary. Their prices were reasonable. We would use them again.
On Christmas Eve the power went out in part of our house. Unfortunately it was the part that included the kitchen and water heater! So we were seriously looking at cold showers and pizza for Christmas Eve dinner - as well as a fridge full of food going to waste. I called 3 electricians and left messages apologizing profusely for interrupting their holiday and begging for help. Only one called me back. Ian from South Bay Electric Company. We're in a fairly old (early 1960s) home, and over the past few months have had South Bay Electric do some work for us, after reading other Yelp reviews. The first time was fixing a hall light switch that had never worked properly, and changing some wiring in the master bedroom. The second was putting electricity in our garage, accessible for garage door remote hookups. I can't say enough good about these guys. I think they charge fair prices, and they really know their stuff, so the job is done right the first time. They should be your first call when you need an electrician!

This is an updated review since my first one was 6 years ago. Since 2012 I have continued to use Ian for all of my electrical needs. Last March his team installed ceiling fans and my little dog ran out the front door and the team spent extra time driving the neighborhood to find him! But last night really deserves a Yelp update. It was pouring rain and my electricity went out. I called SCE and they reported the problem would be fixed by 12:30...at 7 pm I finally got ahold of someone at SCE who then said the problem was my breakers and I had to fix the problem myself. This was after 11 hours of no electricity. I called Ian and he sent someone over immediately. Daryck diagnosed the issue...ran to Lowes and got our lights back on! He then walked us through what to do if it happens again. They are our forever electricians!
Prompt in their response, timely in their arrival and professional in their work! Ian and Dylan were a good team and very helpful.
I bought a 1913 Craftsman house in San Pedro, CA that was still wired with the old knob and tube electrics and an outdated service panel. I had several quotes and Ian was the first one who did not look at the house as a cash cow. Instead of quoting me for an entire rewire, he took the time to work through my real needs and concerns. For example, there was no need to do severe damage to the beautiful original wood paneling by putting in unneeded extra plugs.
One of the things I liked about SBE is that it is a family business. The father and sons team came and worked hard and fast. They were clean and efficient. As retired military, I appreciate good hard work and I was impressed by quality of work and customer service.
I would most highly recommend SBE for any work needed.

Ian at South Bay Electric is amazing. I called him early evening after work when my tenants called me with an electrical issue that had turned half the power out in the unit. He asked me a few questions to diagnose the problem over the phone (older unit, have to trick the switch back on sometimes), i gave my tenants these same instructions but unfortunately the power wouldn't come back on. It was cold, and the heater wouldnt turn on. Ian went to the unit that evening, found the problem and replaced the part all at once. Great to work with from beginning to end.
Called in and got a quote the same day for installing a NEMA 14-50 4 pronged outlet for my new car charging station.
I only had to send him a few pictures of where I wanted it and the charging station I had ordered, and I had a reasonable quote within a few hours.
Very quick response time and close communication, so I really appreciate that.
Ian was on time - even earlier than I expected - and after talking through the best options on where to install the box, he got the job done very quickly. He had his son and his son's friend there to help out, so it was a very relaxed atmosphere.
I had ordered a Clipper Creek 32 amp 25 ft evse cable.
Ian took care with making sure he was bringing the right materials for the exact outlet that I needed, and was able to adapt on the spot when I gave him more information about the station.
We chose to stay outside to watch them work, and it was very enjoyable and we got to learn a few things.
After they were done working, Ian gave us a discount. The charger wasn't there yet, so we decided to install it ourselves later.
This brought the price even lower than we had expected, so thanks!
Overall an easy-going experience. I know exactly who to call from now on whenever I need an electrician. Ian really knows what he is doing.

Ian is worth every one of these five stars. He's outgoing, friendly, and helpful. We had a partial power outage at our house and Edison came out and told us it was a problem on our end and recommended we call an electrician. Of course, it was only the little things affected.. the fridge, internet, tv, main bedrooms.
I hopped onto yelp and called three electricians - one never called me back (Armor Electric) and the while the other (Mike from South Bay Electric, no relation) answered, we apparently had a miscommunication and he didn't show up.
Thankfully, Ian had returned my call and even started troubleshooting our problem over the phone and by picture texts. I told him I already had another electrician coming out but Ian was totally willing to help me however he could. I was impressed by his thoughtfulness.
When I got stood up by the other electrician, I called Ian back at 5:30. He promised someone would be out around 7. It was completely dark by the time Ian came but he efficiently restored our power while working by flashlight and made sure the problem wouldn't be an issue again.
The cost? $95. I now have Ian The Electrician saved to my contacts. He requested I write a yelp review via text and I was happy to.

They came early to my house for electrical service. They were quick and professional. They installed the new lights and fixed some wiring that was damaged. Their prices are good compared to others. Their service is even better.

I just wanted to leave a review for South Bay Electric because of how amazingly helpful they were. I was genuinely caught off guard by their honesty, generosity and integrity.
After calling two other electricians who wanted to charge me a minimum of $80 just to come out, South Bay Electric were honest in their assessment of my situation, informing me that I should be able to easily fix the problem myself, spending only 3 dollars. They even offered to help me over the phone if I was having any problems with the repair, free of charge. And they were right.
3 dollars and 15 minutes later, I had fixed my simple problem. What amazing service to provide somebody who wasn't even a paying customer!
Bottom line: If you live in the area and you need an electrician, no question, South Bay Electric Company should be your first call!
Had an issue with my very old house that I'm renting in MB today. After exchanging a call and photos of the fuse box, Ian figured out the issue without a visit. He also gave me advice re avoiding the same issue in the future. Relieved and appreciative for stand up service. Ian will be my go to from now on.
I can't say enough about Ian and his staff. They came by the following afternoon after my call. I needed some troubleshooting to determine my electrical issues. Ian is a complete professional and a genuinely nice guy to boot. They identified and fixed my problem and advised me to hold off on some other things that I would have considered as I am contemplating selling. He said to call him once I do decide to sell and he would do a thorough appraisal of what should be done. So, in a nutshell he passed on immediate work that he could have made money on. That sort of honesty and customer service are hard to come by these days. I don't give recommendations very often but in this instance I feel strongly about recommending them.

So many people call themselves electrician's but many are not licensed. Ian is a real, licensed electrician who does excellent work, cleans up afterwards, and explains exactly what will be done to solve your problem. Replacing my ancient entrance panel with a new panel with a larger modern panel required a permit from the city. He replaced the panel, got the required permit, and it passed final inspection with no problems. Excellent work ethic.

Contacted South Bay Electric after finding burnt wires in my outlet. He came to fix the issue the very next day. He was on time, friendly, knowledgable and trustworthy. He was able to salvage the wires and saved me money. His prices are great. I will recommend him to my friends and family. Very happy customer!
We made the mistake of calling Powell Electric for a recessed light that was out. We were scammed into thinking the can for our recessed lighting was bad and were told it would be $499.00 to replace.
Thinking that was outrageous, I discovered that price was WAAAAAAAY out of line with the rest of the world. I decided to consult Yelp for a second opinion.
I called SBEC and spoke to Ian. He came out and determined quickly that there was NOTHING wrong with the can. It was getting plenty of power. The issue was that the bulb was unable to make a connection with the can, so he simply bent the metal tab inside the can out with a flat head screw driver and the light came back to life! After completing his work he seemed to legitimately hate the fact he had to charge me anything. I was content to pay him the fraction of the amount Powell was prepared to take out of my wallet for a non-existent problem.
We have found an honest and capable electrician. We will be calling SBEC for all of our needs in the future!

We had 2 non-working light switches, they found out what was wrong in 10 mins, were out in 15 mins, and got the Yelp discount on top of a already very reasonable price. I paid with my credit card which is not the case with the 3 or 4 other electricians I contacted. I am very happy with the service.
Ian and his crew were very professional and accomodating. They provided good advice, worked thought difficult wiring, and gave us a fair price when the work was complete. The dish washer is finally connected. There are dedicated breakers so they won't pop anymore. South Bay Electric Company is really busy and I can see why. I recommend South Bay Electric Company for your electrical and wiring needs.

My brand new electric range wasn't heating, but otherwise worked fine and had power. SB Electric called me to suggest resetting the breaker, and that fixed the problem! They could have easily come out and charged me for their services, but they were kind enough to handle it at NO CHARGE. If I need an electrician in the future, this is the company I'll be calling.
Ian and his son came out to investigate my electrical problems the same day that I called them. They were prompt and friendly and Quickly went about figuring out my problem. They were able to replace two old circuit breakers with ones they had on their truck. The price was very reasonable and I really appreciated that they didn't try to upsell me on anything. I really like these guys and feel that they are honest and hard-working. I will definitely call them again in the future if I have electrical problems.
I called them on a Saturday in the late afternoon to get a 220V plug put in our laundry room. They showed up when they said they would and stayed to get the job done even though it was almost 10pm.
They were able to do the job utilizing my attic and only made a hole in the wall for the plug! I would use them again in a heart beat!!

So this is actually my first review on yelp. I recently bought a house and there was no lighting in the living room. I found Ian on yelp and sent him a text. I described the work which I needed done, which was installing 6 can lights and 2 electrical outlets. We set up a date to have the work performed and he showed up on time and everything came out great. Next time I need and additional electrical work I'll be giving him a call.
Ian took the time to listen, assess what our needs are as opposed to just quoting us for potentially unnecessary work, thereby saving us mucho dinero. I'm quite pleased as I have champagne taste on a beer income and after an extensive remodel, his recommendations will really work out for us at least for now. Ian also identified some structural issues that would have cost us more had we gone with another electrician. I know that we will call on Ian again when we're ready to upgrade our lighting, and we will definitely recommend him to our friends and family. He is a character and best of all, he knows his stuff. He's laid back and is looking to grow his business through good customer service vs just overcharging. Thanks Ian!
OK guys, if you need an electrician then STOP HERE! Ian, Maynard, and the rest of the crew were a pleasure to work with. My wife and I took on a huge remodel of a nearly 100 year old house that needed major repair and a complete electrical overhaul. It had the original cloth wiring. The scope of work was very extensive.
We had a contractor who wanted us to use his sub but we got a few quotes and South Bay was absolutely the best. Ian has a great sense of humor and Maynard has the patience of Job.
There were a number of changes that had to be made throughout the project and South Bay never nickle and dimed us like some companies can do. They were complete professionals.
If you have a BIG electrical job and you want expert electricians, South Bay is the one for you.

Called South Bay Electric based on Yelp reviews. We discovered some strange home wiring issues during a room renovation to our house. South Bay came the next day and worked through the issues and got everything working quickly & for a fair price.

We had a problem with the ceiling fan for months and, with the first hot weekend of the year, finally decided to call an electrician. I saw this one had great reviews so gave the number a call. The guy who answered the phone was awesome! (I actually didn't really expect anyone to answer since it was after 6pm on a Saturday.) He spent a lot of time talking to us and asking what the problem was and giving advice over the phone. He was very honest and we actually determined that we probably didn't need them to come out. He ended up talking to my husband and giving him some tips on what to look for. My husband was able to fix the fan!
It's so refreshing to have a service provider care more about your problem and providing a service then just making sure they make some money. Although we didn't even actually make an appointment and pay for service with them I am comfortable giving them 5 stars. While we didn't need an electrician this time, we will definitely call South Bay Electric Co. if we ever have another problem.

In a nutshell, we're in the start of the first major storm of 2010, and I'm sitting here without heat. I have a heater technician come out and he says, doh, it's not the heater (ok , so those weren't his exact words). The problem is that you got no power to the heater. So its close to 5 pm and I call Ian (based on Yelp) hoping to get an appointment the next day. I explain the situation and he says I'll be there in 5 minutes. I was like, you're kidding right??? But Ian says it's gonna be cold tonight and I can't leave you without power. He arrives, and less then 20 minutes later everything fixed and the heat is back on. Shoot, even Domino's ain't that fast. So now I'm able to cancel my order for the Amish made fake fireplace, and return the Snugggies I bought to help keep the family warm - all because Ian fixed my heater problem.

This cold front brought some strong wind last week and I was having some major power surges (I thought it was happening to everyone in the neighborhood but soon realized it was just my house). I came on here to find a really good reliable electrician and I tried South Bay first due to the reviews and I was not disappointed. He came over within an hour and half as I really needed to have this fixed before all my things got fried from the constant surges/spikes. Ian found out that the main power line (the one that keeps everything in check) had come apart from corrossion and the strong winds ultimately broke it off and yikes yes my tree which is in the way (will soon be calling a tree trimmer to get this fixed). He fixed it just in time before the big rain of the weekend came! PHEW! Thank you! Will be calling again for any other electrical needs that may come up. Call him!

I called in because the switch for my garbage disposal stopped working. I was pretty sure it was just a fault switch that needed to be replaced because it had happened before. I had called other places in the area before and they all quoted $125 for the service call plus parts...just for the switch! When I called South Bay Electric though, he told me over the phone to try a few things before I waste $125 like resetting the breaker, putting a stick into the disposal to spin the blades and reset the disposal itself. Sure enough, that worked!
I didn't even use their services but this in itself just speaks to the integrity of this company. He could have very well came out and charged $125 like the other companies I called wanted to. I will definitely be using these guys when I have a bigger electrical issue. Thank you again!

Called Ian to have a wall socket installed for my LCD Flat Panel TV and was told that an electrician would come out within 15 minutes, however the electrician came about 1.5 hours later . When the electrician arrived we discussed what needed to be done, and we had a slight problem, he did not have the outlet parts, so he had to go out an get them, which took about an hour or so, and I have an ACE hardware shop that is about 5 minutes from my house. Somewhat strange to hear that it took that long to find it, so beware of this issue.
As this is a service that you pay for time an materials, I would suggest to anybody using this service that you tell the specifics of your job and what is required for materials, so that you don't end up spending time on waiting for the electrician to do a simple job.
Having said this, Ian (South Bay Electric) did call me back and apologized for the delay and issues with the electrician dispatched, so I cannot say they did not finish the job. As a homeowner I will most likely go with the local electricians that my friends use for future projects.

Ian is great. I called him about an electrical problem that I couldn't figure out. He began by suggesting things I could do to fix the problem myself at little cost. This, more than anything, is why I'll go back to him.
Sadly, I wasn't able to fix the problem on my own. So I had him out, he nailed the problem, and charged a reasonable fee.
Ian and his worker were great. Ian came and gave a detailed estimate and took the time needed to answer my many questions. He also gave an estimate of how much money I could save by doing the jobs all on one day.
On the day of the work, some things didn't go as planned (beyond their control), but they took the time to explain everything and gave me options. We installed a new vanity light in the bathroom and pendant lighting in the kitchen. Overall the job was very well done and I'm pleased to recommend this company to anyone needing a good electrician.
I need to yelp how happy I am with the work done by South Bay Electric Company. They did a wonderful job on the work they did today 4/14/11. They were on time, worked within my budget, clean, respectful and did I mention did an amazing job. They installed fan fixtures and everything is working beautiful. I am smiling ear to ear.
I have several other projects on my house they are all going to this company. I am VERY HAPPY and will be a repeat customer and a reference. GREAT JOB!!!!
Update 12/2011- They hung another fixture and again great job and no damage to the walls.
Hey, Ian is the man. I called cause the electricity went out in my kitchen. He came within 40 minutes and helped me out and though it was an easy fix, he didn't make me feel like a tool.
Other places gave 4-6 hour window and some charged a flat rate of $300. Craziness.
Highly recommend. Great service... Always looking for honest workman. Thanks Ian! Will be calling you again when I need you.

My experiences with South Bay Electric Company were such that despite all the times I've said that I'm going to write a review on Yelp this was the first that actually got me to do it.
Ian is very responsive, very easy to work with, does a top-notch professional job, and is a good guy all-around. How many contractors do you know that show up early, take the time to make sure you understand what you're looking at, and don't try to push you into signing off on unnecessary work?
My wife and I are both very pleased with the work he's performed so far and are looking forward to working with him on many projects to come.

I think I've known Ian, the Owner of South Bay Electric for about 11 years. I'm an owner of a Real Estate Property Management Company. The only way I will allow someone OTHER than Ian to fix electrical issues at my properties is if he's on vacation and it's an emergency. If it's not an emergency...we wait until he gets back.
Of course..at my own home....I only call Ian.
We were having an issue with certain outlets not providing power. We first called Powell Electric who, upon reviewing the situation, said we needed new outlets and new circuits that were going to cost over $1,000. I felt uneasy about their assessment, so I called around to get general estimates for the problem, none of which came close to $1,000. South Bay Electric provided an estimate over the phone and didn't push any services. I eventually called back to schedule a service call because I appreciated the over-the-phone estimate and possible explanation. When Ian came out he took the time to look carefully at all the outlets and managed to figure out that one of the lamps plugged into one of the affected outlets was bad, which ended up being the cause of that circuit shutting off. He then double-checked that it was indeed the lamp by plugging it into an outlet that was not having issues which did recreate the problem. The other repairmen who had assessed the problem did not test the electronics, etc. plugged into the outlets, nor did we as we hadn't thought of it. He charged a $139 service call fee. Even though it ended up not being a big issue and he wasn't there more than a half hour, it was a much better price than $1,000 and his thoroughness was much appreciated.

Excellent work. Extremely satisfied with SB Electric. I wanted old/un-used residential wiring (alarm / intercom / etc.) removed. Ian visited my home and we later set-up the appointment. Ian's son and assistant were on time. After a quick review of the home -- they began. ALL wires (inside/outside/garage) were pulled. ANY/ALL associated boxes/speakers were removed. They did a post-work review and cleaned-up (no leftover mess whatsoever!). Had a slight prob (the alarm company's error) w/ the existing system's wiring. Ian's son (a) corrected the wiring & (b) stayed to ensure that my system was back on line! I definitely recommend SBEC!
We have been clients of Ian of So Bay for over 5 years and have called upon him on numerous occasions. He, Maynard and Derek are truly amazing. They arrive in a timely manner and complete their work and provide most reasonable charges for their services.

Ian was just over at my house again, taking care of my piddly electrical problems and once again, he did the most excellent job! He knows what he is doing and takes the time to do things correctly. Derek came out yesterday to trouble-shoot a mysterious electrical issue with outlets in my den. He was friendly, efficient, creative and professional, and successfully solved the problem, in spite of me not remembering there was a long-unused outlet behind a bookcase. He also provided a great solution to my computer plug not reaching the available outlets. On-time, reasonably priced, and technically excellent - five stars for sure.
We had a problem in our house where some of the lights were working and some were not on the same circuit. The first contractor who came out told us that this was due to an overloaded circuit without knowing for certain the exact cause resulting in our home warranty claim being denied. I disagreed with this diagnosis and felt the problem was caused by a bad wiring connection perhaps in the attic. This is when I called South Bay Electric. Daryck came out and listened to what I thought might be the problem. He climbed into the attic twice to try to locate the problem besides checking our electrical panel and circuit breakers. He was very diligent and persistent in searching for the problem and finally found it and fixed it in a junction box buried under an eave in the attic. We were very pleased with his work and his respectful attitude. Ian Marsh also called us when they were running a little late in getting here and then later followed up after the job to make sure everything was okay. Ian from South Bay Electric was very professional and thorough with the electrical nightmare over here. Even though he was very busy, he came out right away to accommodate my emergency situation. I have already recommended this company to friends and will most definitely use this company again for an electrical issue in the future!
Ian and son are exactly the sort of electrician or journeyman you want to have. They are exacting, careful, honest and diligent. They have helped us change a simple outlet as well as create an entirely new electrical panel setup. The old spaghetti wires and really frightening looking panel have been replaced with a new, clearly understood arrangement.This was complicated work having to do with partial wall destruction and construction, permits, new grounding code, etc. They went right for it, were exceedingly polite, very clean and really fair.
We were without power for going on two days. Ian was kind enough to come over on a Saturday. He's friendly and more important, knows what he's doing. Fixed our problem within a few minutes, and gave us advice on future problems. He honored the 10% yelp discount. I would recommend South Bay Electrical to anybody.

I was a bit skeptical about all the positive review for South Bay Electric Company, but I gave them a try. I called Ian Thursday (1/10/13) night and left a message on his machine, he called me back that night and had one of his guys come in around 9AM the next day (lucky me)! This is my first time dealing with a contractor and it was pleasant experience! The guy was professional, quick, and polite. Not only did he ground 2 of our wall outlet, he fix the problem with bathroom exhaust fan. Once that was fixed he recommended some options to safe guard the attic space due to the poor install process (which was done by former owners of the home) . Now I feel confident my wall outlet will not destroy my computer power supply unit anymore - I went through 4 dead PSU because we had no grounding on a 3 prong wall outlet.
Their rates are definitely fair. I will use South Bay Electric Company services again in the future!
I contacted South Bay Electric due to the great reviews on Yelp, I was not disappointed. Even though I know Ian and his son(s) are quite busy, it was easy to communicate with Ian through text messages. I wanted to update my 20+ year original lighting in the kitchen. Ian proposed several options for me to choose. I chose can lights and Ian and his son(s) explained the installation process (even though I don't really understand that stuff) and tried to cause as little damage to the existing ceiling. They were kind enough to look into a side issue I had with my laptop plug sparking at an outlet when I plugged the power source into the outlet and reassured me that it wasn't a short circuit and explained what was really happening. I'm very satisfied with my kitchen lighting and highly recommend South Bay Electric.

Ian worked with me over the phone to troubleshoot a problem I was having with the power to my thermostat. From exchanging texts and sending him some pictures, he deduced that my problem was not an electrical one, but rather one having to do with my HVAC system. And, by the way, he did not charge me a cent. My AC guy confirmed he was absolutely correct. It turned out to be a burnt out switch on my furnace.
I appreciated that Ian took the time to analyze my problem thoroughly via phone/text. And I was very impressed with his ability to accurately assess my problem without even seeing it first hand. To me it shows he has a lot of integrity and is also very knowledgable.

These guys are amazing and fair. Had them come and give me a price for a full re wire and had my panel replaced which was very fair so I went with them. Team came in to do the job very friendly fast and efficient. Very clean. Would highly recommend and will use in the future for and other electrical needs I may have.

I would probably use someone else next time.
I hired them to replace a bathroom fan and put the new fan and the existing light on separate switches. Ian (the owner) told me (over the phone) that it would take 2-3 hours of work.
Technician was around 45 minutes late. Job took about 2 hours.
We asked the technician about the advertised Mention Yelp for 10% Off discount, which he gave us, but when we got the the invoice, it listed 2.5 hours of work (instead of 2 hours) and $25 in materials. I provided the new switch, as well as the new fan. So, we asked the technician about the materials charge. He said it was for duct tape and wire nuts. Seemed exorbitant. He said we could call Ian about the bill, but I wasn't going to call and argue over it, I'll just let my wallet do the talking and don't plan on using them again.
In the end, that extra 30 minutes of billed hours and material charges conveniently negated the Yelp discount.
I don't write a lot of reviews and I write even less non-5 Star reviews, in fact this is my first. They seemed like nice enough people and the work seemed fine, but I next time, I'll try someone else.
Can't say enough about these guys. They just finished. On time. Nice. Work was great. Ian, you guys rock. Thanks.

Ian is AMAZING! We had been dealing with our electrical issue for months. Had two different electricians come out and neither one fixed our problem. Then there's Ian - South Bay Electric Company...called him and he squeezed us into his very busy day. And the best part, he FIXED our problem less than an hour. I gave them a call after 5:30 when many electricians are closed. I described the problem with my circuit breaker. He had me take a picture and send it to him. He walked me through fixing the problem, which took 5 minutes, no charge. Saved me a ton of money that other electricians would have charged me. What a great guy!

I had a simple job, just changing a circuit to 30amp 220v in order to add a proper plug in my garage to support a washer. Ian was able to re-use an existing wiring & conduit that wasn't needed to the other side of the garage and get me set up in about ~1hr in the evening after work. A few of our wall outlets weren't working in a few rooms. It was about 3 hours from the time we placed the call to them to the time the electrician fixed our problem and left! Awesome! They were able to give us a ball park estimate over the phone from the description we gave. I doubt you'll be disappointed with their work!
I read the raving reviews with some skeptisim, because I had some bad luck with company with good reviews but not Ian. He is terrific. He redid the lighting for our condominum , he had great advise , but when I wanted things a certain way , he just did it (I turned out to be wrong and had it redone the way he suggested and I didn't get as much as a smirk)
His price was good , and he came when he said he would , and when he needed to reschedule he called. But mostly he is a good and knowledgable electrician and he is now our official condominium electrician
We needed to have two recessed lighting fixtures installed in our bedroom so we called Ian at South Bay Electric Company. He scheduled an appointment and came at the date and time designated. He and his son are very friendly and professional. He did exactly what I wanted and made sure I was happy with the positioning of the fixtures before he made the cuts in our ceiling. Because we have dark carpeting, Ian used a hand saw (harder than an electric saw) to avoid spewing drywall all over our bedroom. He also made sure that our carpeting and bed were covered to prevent any possible drops. He completed the job very promptly and the cost was quite reasonable. I definitely recommend South Bay Electric and will use them whenever I need to have electric work performed.

South Bay Electric fixed the electric work performed by sketchy kitchen contractors and unlicensed handymen. Ian patiently worked with my schedule (this is my parents' house and I live out of town) and his guys came up with a repair plan that fixed everything, completed unfinished jobs and came in under budget. WHEN DOES THAT EVER HAPPEN?! They couldn't have been nicer and SO efficient. A good electrician is worth their weight in gold and I am so glad we can call South Bay Electric and know we will can expect great work at a fair price. I called on a Friday and spoke with Ian. He was very friendly. I asked for a quote and he had me take pictures and send them to him via text. Ian was able to give me a quote over the phone and scheduled my appointment for the following Monday! That's service!

About two weeks ago, I had to replace a gas range in one of the apartments that I own with my partners. Somehow the electric plug for the gas range is not working. So I yelped and found South Bay Electric Company. Ian came and troubleshoot. He checked the breakers and all the outlets in the apartment. The strange thing is that all the electric outlets in this apartment are in working condition except the one in the kitchen for the stove. In order to fix this problem, Ian told me that either to locate where the existing wirings are or to run new wiring to new plug. It was getting late in the evening and we decided to reschedule a different day to take care of this. Today Ian told me that Derek and Sage will come by and trouble shoot and fix the problem for me. Guess what? Derek did an excellent job! He punched a hole in the wall near the electric outlet and found the wirings. He replaced the old wirings in that opening & my goodness, the electric outlet is in WORKING CONDITION!!! Thank you guys!! I appreciate it very much!! I will not hesitate to refer you to my friends and/or clients for any electric work needed to be done!!

I called South Bay Electric from the reviews on YELP and I'm so glad I did. I had a problem with my tv, oven and refrigerator not working. It was after 5:00 pm on a Saturday and I didn't expect to get an answer. I spoke with Ian and he said that he would have someone out there within half an hour. Derek did come within the time frame and discovered the problem, although it was longer than he expected to fix, Derek did a fantastic job. He was very professional and courteous. The price was very reasonable and I will definitely call these guys for future repairs. So glad my first electrician experience was a good one!

Ian tried to save me money by cleaning up my main breaker, but when it was apparent that the breaker was no good, he drove to the nearest Home Depot himself, bought a breaker, came back and finished the job.

If you're a homeowner, you know how hard it can be to find good handymen, plumbers, and electricians. So, thank god for Ian and South Bay Electric Company. I am extremely pleased with the excellent work Ian and his son did for me and I highly recommend them to anyone in need of an electrician. They arrived promptly at the scheduled time and set to work assembling and installing a ceiling fan and then diagnosing why an electrical outlet was not working and fixing it. They worked efficiently, were friendly and pleasant throughout, were careful not to damage anything, and cleaned up afterward. To top it off, their rates are very reasonable. I am very happy to have found South Bay Electric Company.
Why do I think South Bay is the Best out there? I own Big Daddy and Sons Pizza in Venice. Since I found South Bay Electric I have done 100% of my electric work with Ian, the owner. He has saved me money when what I thought was needed and he showed me a way to fix what I had. Also at my house I was going to install a light over my stove when he showed me there was a way to get into the hood and replace the lighting that existed. The work always gets done on schedule and in an emergency he will stop by and install something even on his way out going to a movie... This is the kind of company we all need. Great wiring and security camera installations, lighting, even new construction has been perfect and good prices. I hope he is available when I need him if he is busy with your job! For us, I would not want to have to look for another electric company.
Ian and his team are fantastic. I recently purchased a house built in 1937 and wanted to upgrade the main and sub panels and add some electrical outlets throughout the house.
The whole team was on time for the scheduled appointment and worked quickly to finish the job. When there was a problem with the newly installed main panel (not really the fault of Ian or his team), Ian's crew returned the next day and replaced it...essentially doing the majority of the job over again for free.
He stands by his work and worked hard to ensure customer satisfaction. I will ONLY use South Bay Electric Company for my electrical needs in the future.
Ian went above and beyond to make sure my issue was fixed. Several things were wrong and he fixed them all for $100.00. Not too bad!
We just bought a home in October and needed additional lighting in our backyard, driveway, and bedroom closet. Derek and Joe did a fantastic job of installing the lights. They were professional, hard working, and very nice. Only thing that would have been better is if they had a reference for repairing our wall after they installed the outside light (the house is very old and there was some unanticipated blockage behind the walls that required Derek to open a hole in the wall). Other than that, there were awesome, and we couldn't be happier. We will definitely contact them in the future!

Ian just spent 15 minutes talking to me (at 7:45pm) about my electrical issues without one sales pitch. Even gave advice on how I could do it myself. Totally legit customer service, and I wasn't even a customer. He's genuinely nice, not wants-a-good-review-on-yelp nice.
Again, we use South Bay Electric for our new place to add recessed lighting throughout the whole house, move a very difficult outlets, and pulling cables. and again, we are VERY SATISFY with them!! If we can give 6 Stars, we would! We are actually a very satisfy client and we are not paid by South Bay Electric!! Ian, Derek, Maynor, and the Team are very professional, friendly, work fast, and very HONEST!! Ian refunded extra payments we made.. Ive never had that experience from any other companies before.. Ian and team are some experienced and helpful dudes. I sent his crew a late night message about an electrical problem where half my house was out of power. He replied promptly with some solid advice to make sure it wasn't an external problem with Edison before I went to the expense of having the internal wiring troubleshooted.
Turns out he was right! Edison must have done something janky... their dudes came out and set it straight, didn't cost me a dime.

Called South Bay Electric Company to install an electric vehicle charger. Went with them after reading yelp reviews. I'm glad I did. Ian was super friendly and gave me a great price. We spoke with Ian on the phone and he quoted us an unbelievable low price for installing a ceiling fan. A few days later, Mayner showed up and did an outstanding job. He was professional and completed the installation perfectly. This experience could not have been any better.
We had to have a fan installed and Mayner did a great job. He was friendly, professional and polite. The install took only about an hour. Ian is a true professional. I left him a message to call me back to give me a quote on an outdoor fixture. He called the next day apologized for not calling me back the same day. He made the effort to fit me in between jobs to come and give me a quote. He was honest and prompt and I will use him in the future. Ian and his crew are a very hard working professional group. They came on time, worked hard all day and completed everything that was promised.
I called after reading the reviews on Yelp and they showed up on-time (the exact minute!) for even my little puny job. I just needed an electrical outlet taken off the switch that it was on (it shared the switch with lighting) so that the outlet is continuously on.
It initially looked like the job might be more complicated than they thought (based on my description on the phone), but Ryan figured out a way to do it that was quick and efficient. Bottom line - they could have taken advantage of me but didn't and did a great job. DEFINITELY calling them again for any future electrical work.
Had an electrical outlet installed in my AV closet on 09/24/2010. The work was done promptly and professionally.
Also, I had the owner (I forget his name at the moment... a nice guy) come out in August 2010 to do an estimate on some av wiring work that I required. He told me for what I needed, he wasn't the best option. He even pointed me to another contractor that specialized in what I needed. I always appreciate when someone tells it to me straight vs taking on something he shouldn't.
His honesty and professionalism is why I had his company do my outlet installation and why I'll use his company again for any future electrical needs.
I called south bay electric to repair some shorted wiring, Ian gave me rough estimate and I set up an appointment. The repair crew was on time and done very good job in a timely manner.

Wow. I called on Thursday. Ian gave me an estimate via photos that day and made an appointment for his company to come out the following Monday. It was 2 jobs in 2 rooms. They completed it in less than one day. No mess. No fuss. Friendly. Professional. Best of all despite the 15 foot ceiling in the one room with no attic space above, amazingly no holes left to patch. This was amazing because I've helped my fiancé with this kind of job on shorter ceilings and the holes that needed to be patched after were plentiful. The 15 foot ceiling was too much for us to try on our own. I'm glad we didn't and instead called this company. I would without a doubt recommend this company for your electrical needs

I called on one night and got an appointment for the next day. The guys gave me a call on my phone so I could come home from work and meet them at home. They saved me from a potentially disastrous situation! My electrical box was in terrible terrible condition and they recommended a completely new box. They were fairly knowledgeable and seemed genuinely concerned about my safety. They were so concerned that they did the work the same day for a great price (about 25% of what someone else had quoted me before I knew it was dangerous).
I wanted to get a quote for electrical grounding throughout the house but I dont think I ever got one. I'll definitely call these guys again though for anything electrical! These guys were awesome.
P.S. I didnt see they were giving a discount of 10% to yelp customers. I missed out :(
I had a very good experience working with Ian and SBEC. Ian returned my calls in a timely manner and came out to provide me with a free quote. He stuck to his quote and charged me accordingly. He also honored the 10% off when I mentioned Yelp.
His guys were very professional when they were doing the work. They were very thorough and detail oriented.
I called Ian at South Bay because another electrician had not done the work I needed when promised and had not returned my numerous calls. I was about to miss a deadline with the city.
Ian was in New York at the time and on a tight schedule.
Still he offered help me get a permit in spite of problems doing it over the internet, and at a reasonable fee even tho it would be a more involved process. This took several phone calls. By the time we had finished talking, the other electrician had called and had the permit ready which I had to accept due to the deadline.
In the future, I will not waste time with anyone and will go straight to South Bay.

We were down in LA from San Francisco working on a rental property and had about 2 business days to get the rest of our contractor work completed. Found these guys on yelp and what a blessing. Ian the owner was going on a camping trip but he bent over backwards to get someone out the day we called (Thursday). He sent Ryan out and he was fantastic, he kept in touch to let us know when he'd be arriving, got there, and did a fantastic job at a great price! We've used these guys again since the trip and again they really wowed us with their awesome customer service, great work and great price!

Really disappointed with my experience. I spoke with Ian twice last week to confirm a Monday morning appointment from 10a-12p. By 11am, no one had bothered to show-up or call. After calling and leaving a message, I received a call back and a reason for the no-show/cancellation. I get that things happen in life, but to leave a customer hanging and waiting is completely unprofessional...especially when the entire day was planned around having potential work done. Onward...
Ian and Daryck did a great job of changing over my crappy 60's direct stove and dishwasher power lines to nice, up-to-code plugs. This was the first time I had ever hired people in my entire life. Based on the job, and the kind of people they both are, I would hire them again in a minute.
I had South Bay rewire my 1000 sq ft home and the other yelp reviews are spot on. They did a good job and gave sage advice where needed. Replacing knob and tube in a plaster and lath house is messy, but they kept the work area clean everyday, in fact they cleaned up after themselves before moving onto the next room. As others have said, Ian is an all around good guy.
I do NOT understand why this company has som many good reviews... unless all of you are friend s with this guy. We have around $5k-$10K worth of electrical to be done on our new house and Ian is a MESS! Not only does he charge $250 to come out and tell you what needs to be done (not a single plumber, floor person anyone has done this) he also talks in circles and tries to tell you oON THE PHONE NEVER SEEING THE HOUSE what needs to be done. Seriously can't believe the reviews below! Needless to say we will not be using him!

I want to thank South Bay Electric Company for fitting us in fast and helping us with some issues in our house. Our chandelier was going on and off at odd times, we had a recess light that wasn't working and we had issues with our track lights. Derrick and Tyler came out and were polite and very informative. They fixed the first 2 small items fast and easily. The track lights in our den were a bigger issue. They got to the bottom of it and told us what to buy and saved us a ton of money. They truly took the time to explain everything. Another electrician had told us to buy all new track light kits and didn't take the time to figure out what was truly wrong. Now we have lots of light in our den and we are so happy. South Bay Electric Co does have a more expensive hourly rate but it was worth it. They were good, professional and in the end saved us money. Thank you South Bay Electric Company!
SBEC couldn't be more fantastic. They are reasonable, extremely knowledgeable, efficient and honest. Ian came out and estimated the cost of the job, but it was Derrick and Manor who did the actual work. I was so impressed with them and I felt they went above and beyond to get the job done. They changed a lot of outlets to CFI's, installed another flood light. They even mounted my TV and hooked up Bose speakers to my TV. Also, Ian looked over our inspection report and advised us to only do the necessary work--he never pushed in any way to spend more than what was needed. I would absolutely hire them again.

Best electrician I have been able to find and able to deal with many different issues. They were quick and so reasonably priced. They found an issue I didn't even know about and plan to have them back to fix it as well as put up some outdoor lights. Very thankful to have a good electrician to call when I need it!

I was very impressed with Ian and his crew. We had a job running a few thousand dollars, that needed to be complete ASAP. He came same day to give me a quote and on the day he promised he would be there he came, even though he was sick. He promised the job would be completed in a one day and it was! Even if it meant pulling several more guys in and making them work 12 hours straight! Also the quote he provided was the exact amount on his invoice. Highly highly recommend!

Being the smart person that I am, at 8 months pregnant,my nesting instincts kicked in and I decided that I needed to have recessed lighting for our 3 rooms. I was nervous about trying to find an electrician, since I hear so many horror stories and didn't know what to expect. But thank goodness I came across the yelp reviews on South Bay Electric Company because they were amazing and a delight to work with.
I called Ian and told him what I needed, and he gave me a quick quote over the phone. And a few days later, came in person to take a look at the job I would like completed, and gave me a quote (without charging me for the quick house visit). Ian was very nice, knowledgeable, and straight forward. Two of his guys (Angel & Joel) came a week later to put in my recessed lights.
First off, they were PUNCTUAL. Showed up at 9:05am, for the 9am appointment. Both were incredibly nice and fast. Their work was clean and accurate, and what impressed me was they left without a mess in my rooms! I am super happy with my new recessed lights and my nesting urges are satiated for the time being. Call them, you won't regret it!

Ian was very responsive and punctual. He was honest and professional and was able to fix our electrical issue right away. We will definitely use him again in the future.
These guys are fantastic! I called this company earlier today and were able to come out SAME DAY! They even showed up early, which was great. What made them so awesome? They figured out how to fix (and actually fixed while they were here) three dead outlets, which two other electricians weren't able to do. Unbelievable! It's a given that we'll be calling them back for more work we need done. Very reasonably priced, too. I'm so happy we found these guys. Thanks, Yelp!

Although they did not arrive on time (Friday traffic in LA), South Bay installed recessed lighting in my living room and they such a nice job I had them come back to install several ceiling fans and special light fixtures. I would definately recommend Ian/his team to others.
This truly is the first time I've ever written a review on yelp but Ian was sooo nice and knowledgeable I knew I had to add to all the other great ratings. He was so kind to talk to me over the phone for 10 minutes and give me an estimate on an electrical problem I was having and really took the time to try to help. Although I didn't get to use any of his services, just by speaking with him on the phone I can tell you he is great and I highly recommend this company.
Ian and his crew were great! My husband and I just bought a house that needed a total rewiring and we decided to hire Ian for the job because of his experience and his superb reviews on Yelp and Angie's List. We had three electricians give estimate and Ian was not the lowest bid but he was the one that we felt that would do a proper job. We pulled a permit before Ian started the job and once it was done it passed the inspection by LA DWP. We are absolutely happy with Ian and his crew. Only draw back is that he is busy so you might have to wait on a large job but the wait is worth it if you want it done right. He also advised that he guarantees his work and all the lighting parts that were used for one year and that is reassuring. Big thanks to Ian and his crew!

Ian is the best electrician/company owner I have used over the past 6 years. South Bay Electric helped me on a small issue about a year ago and resolved it in only a few hours, with a very reasonable rate. When I had a larger issue just 2 weeks ago, I called Ian and the next day he had Maynard there on time, at 7am.
I had the entire electrical system separated from the main house to the studio, the job appeared pretty complicated, Ian broke it down for me as Maynard and he did the initial assessment. Ian gave me the short term cheaper option and the longer term more expensive and permanent repair option. As Maynard and his co-worker progressed, we realized it was worse than we thought. The very complicated task lasted 13 hours, Maynard worked late into the night to ensure it was done right and completed before I had to leave the next morning. They kept the work area very clean, saved my grass where they had to dig it up and were very knowledgeable. When the job took a few hours longer than anticipated because of a buried / hidden junction box, Ian was very fair and almost felt bad about the total amount the effort now equaled. Ian gave me a very fair price and adjusted the total outcome to the original amount. Everything is working great and is a big relief. Thanks again for your expediency and fairness and for getting Maynard on it so quick. Maynard is thorough at his work and careful with areas he is working. Also, the gentleman working with him, who I forgot his name, he was great also. Yard has fully recovered and Electrical is working great.

I called SBEC for 2 small jobs - installing 2 recessed lights and hooking them up with 2 existing ones, and installing a ceiling fan to replace an old light fixture. The catches: 1) The reason I wanted two more recessed lights was that the existing ones weren't bright enough. Ian suggested a different CFL bulb and decorative rings, which are fantastic. 2) The existing recessed lights weren't grounded properly. So when this was discovered, I told Maynard to fix the existing lights too since I want it done right. He did so. 3) The ceiling fan was to be in a location 1 foot away from the old light, and the old light had been used as a junction box in the attic. So Maynard had to install a new junction box in the attic so that I could properly drywall over the hold where the old light was.
Since things went well, I was happy, and the cost was good, I called SBEC back a week later to rewire my entire attic. I knew it was in bad shape and it had been on my to-do list for years. SBEC sent out 3 guys and instead of rewiring just the attic, they managed to rewire the entire house in the 2 days they were here, within the price I was quoted for just the attic. Mind you, not all the wire was replaced, just the ancient wire that wasn't to code (house built in 1929), which is exactly what I wanted. Every wire, light fixture, and outlet was checked. SBEC even made sure that we had suitable electricity overnight in between their two days of work. The best part was that they even fixed the one not-to-code issue in my detached garage (door opener plugged into an extension cord) by installing a new outlet. And yes, both days they left my house at least as clean as it was before they arrived.
Now my house is safe and to code, finally!

Had guys come out 2 different days and both days they showed up a little early which was great. This alone is unheard of from electricians, plumbers...etc. First visit, he immediately found the problem to fix a nonworking outlet. Second visit, they installed two new outlets and changed out some sockets to 3 prong. Both electricians were extremely nice and friendly and left things clean and even moved back my furniture. Highly recommend these guys.
Ian came to my house, gave me an estimate. It was VERY reasonable. He showed up on time, installed 5 fixtures, fixed two items that were wired wrong and did it all in two hours. Everything works perfectly. Great guy
Very happy with work done by South Bay Electric. We had a lot of issues, and many layers of problems, that needed to be worked through. Ian and his whole crew were great! I would highly recommend them. Their bid was also very competitive.
I own a rental house in Gardena, I called Ian at South Bay Electric. The problem was fixed the same day, he is friendly and got the job done correctly. Most of all he doesn't over charge. I am happy with his service and pricing.
I just called Ian with a problem I was having and he correctly diagnosed the problem over the phone and told me how to fix it myself. It literally took 30 seconds to fix and saved me a bunch of money. I will be a loyal fan for life. Honesty will get you everywhere. Thank you Ian!

I give Ian a 6 Stars. I called a few places that have gotten good reviews. Ian was the quickest to response and the most courteous. I needed to add an outlet and some lights to a few closets. He did a walkthrough with me the next morning. He was very flexible and understanding in working within my budget. He gave me a very reasonable & realistic quote. His guy, Minor, showed up on time for the work. He was very presentable & very professional; he was also very good and fast. We made couple of changes on the fly and Minor was able to accommodate my requests but still managed to get them done under budget - WOW. I could not believe that. In addition, Minor did a great job cleaning up around his work area - it was spotless; couldn't even tell that he cut into the wall and ran wires through it. WELL DONE. I will never call another electrician ever again. Ian is now my guy for good. Just wish that all the plumbers, gardeners, handymen work as good as Ian & Minor. Thanks Ian & Minor.
