I only know Rick through correspondence, which I am so grateful for, because he has just saved me a ton of money.

All I needed was very easy swap for 1 light in my small commercial studio, and if it wasn't for Rick's recommendation I could have easily been swindled by an expensive electrician rather than just using a handyman that Rick so honestly led me in the direction of.  

He responded to my correspondence quickly and honestly, which is more than I can say for the other dozen or so electricians I contacted through Yelp.

Rick was called in by my contractor during a septic tank to sewer conversion. The utilities under the street necessitated a pump system being installed. Rick installed the electrical system to support it. He was professional, skilled and his fees were reasonable. His helper was equally skilled and still building on her knowledge. I had him come back to correct the electrical wiring from my house to a dog kennel building and prep it for a heating/air conditioning unit I planned on installing. The unit was later installed and works perfectly. I had him check out some lighting and other electrical systems in my home that I was concerned about. He assured me on safety issues and gave me several options for future improvements. There was no pressure to have any additional work done. I would not hesitate to hire him again.

I saw 27 highly positive reviews for Rick Brown, decided to try him out.  At least that's what I attempted.  I phoned and reached him on the first attempt.  Check.  He said he was really busy but would get back to me the following day to schedule a meeting.  Check.  Send an email with my contact information at his request.  Check.  

Business must be good because I never heard from him again.  On to the next electrician...

Rick was very prompt and helpful. His pricing was competitive - I checked with a few different electricians in the neighborhood, and he was one of the most knowledgeable. No charge for an estimate.  We will strongly consider Rick for our next job.

We had several problematic lighting issues both inside and outside our home. The electrical issues inside our home were particularly challenging. Several other electricians tried to help us but Rick was the only one that was able to find a solution. And happily I might add. Not only is he knowledgable and experienced he seems to love his work. He's personable, reliable and communicative. I highly recommend Rick - he is our go to!

For the better part of a year, the outlet powering my media center was cutting out randomly. I had to stop using it, and it was too small a job for most electricians to bother with, or they wanted to charge over $400 to take a look and fix it.

Rick, on the other hand, was willing to for me in between larger jobs, and charge just the base fee to diagnose and fix the issue.

He arranged a convenient time to come over, diagnosed the problem quickly, fixed it, and probably prevented my house from burning to the ground in the process. Also adjusted the location of the outlet that hadn't been working, and threw in a new outlet to replace one that was loose for no charge.

Rick Brown and his assistant Tyler are amazing!  He upgraded all the old knob and tube wiring in my basement quickly and efficiently.  He was always on time, kept me informed of his schedule and spent lots of time explaining what needed to be done.  The existing wiring was funky and he made great suggestions on how best to deal with all the issues safely while at the same time keeping costs in mind.  He and Tyler are a pleasure to work with - friendly, knowledgeable, professional and respectful of our home and time.  I can't say enough good things about him and recommend him 100%.

Rick came over to conduct a general electrical inspection of our new home. He seemed very knowledgable, explaining things as he went. Overall, he didn't find much wrong, which was great. But he did note down a few things for us to consider taking care of. We paid him his fee, and that's where the less than satisfactory review comes in. He said he would email his notes to us, so we would have a record of his inspection, but he never did. My wife and I called/emailed him several times after the inspection, and no response. Very poor follow-up.

Rick was a pleasure to work with: punctual, uncomplicated and friendly. He gave us good suggestions for the work we were proposing (changing an external light switch) and made the project easier than it would have been with other electrical services.

Rick is the best electrician I have ever worked with.  He installed all of our outdoor lighting and has upgraded our electrical panel.  He is capable of managing a large electrical project in a timely manner and always responds to texts/calls/emails in a timely manner.  I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for high quality electrical work.

Man, I hate to be the one raining on the parade here, so I'll start by saying that Rick definitely knows his stuff.

My experience with him, though, was weird.  I had him out to my house (which my fiance and I recently inherited, so we don't have much documentation on and we're still figuring out the quirks of) to take a look at the electrical system and provide an estimate for what it would take to update it.

He went through the place, and seemed impatient.  He kept making suggestions that I wasn't into (he was rather insistent on monorail installations instead of recessed lighting like I wanted, because he didn't want to open up the ceiling, which I was perfectly willing to do).  There are two sections to the home, an original house and an addition.  The electrical in the addition was not as much a priority for me as it was closer to current standards and was not knob and tube, which was the stuff I really wanted to get rid of.

At the end, he gave me a rough quote on what it would take to do the whole house (which I said at the beginning was not my priority) and when asked about the stuff I really wanted to do, he said he would provide a quote later in the week, and I never heard from him again.

He seemed scattered and not a good fit for me (he forgot his toolbox by the door on the way out and had to come back a few hours later to reclaim it).

I ended up going to Todor at Electro Integrity who was incredibly helpful, flexible, and did an amazing job.  He ended up rewiring the whole first floor for me and installing all the components (recessed lighting, etc) that I had asked for.

Rick is awesome! We needed a doorbell fixed immediately, and Rick came out the very next morning. He fixed it within a few minutes and also gave me tips on how to self-fix it next time. I'll definitely keep him on my vendor list! The only thing is he doesn't take credit cards, so make sure you have cash or a check ready (he can give you a receipt).

Rick is the best. I had a few electrical needs at my condo, so I got a couple of bids. Although his estimate was slightly higher than another top-rated yelp electrician, I decided to go with Rick--because he seemed like a good guy who cares about doing good work. He ended up coming in under his estimate. A very nice surprise.

Rick is a punctual, nice, talented electrician. He and his assistant did excellent work. I will, without a doubt, call Rick for all of my future electrical needs.

I can't say enough good things about Rick!  I called him to replace an outlet in my grandmother's kitchen.  He was extremely nice on the phone and told me they were very busy for the next few weeks, but they should be able to fit her in.  I emailed him the information and a picture of the outlet.  He called me the NEXT day and told me they were done!  I did not expect them to get to this for a week or more!  In addition, he was kind enough to hang some blinds for my grandmother.  It takes a special person to be so thoughtful.  I am very appreciative and will use him for any future grandma electrical needs!

I've hired Rick to do a number of projects in my Victorian home and have been delighted with his work. Rick is communicative, good and patient at explaining issues and project scope, and is reliable and on time.

Rick came highly recommended from a cabinet designer maker I was using for a project because she had worked with Rick on previous projects. I've now referred him to friends of mine as well.

Overall, I highly recommend Rick - I think he does excellent quality work, is easy going and comfortable to work with, and really knows his stuff! He's installed outlets, new fixtures, and fixed fixtures in my house for me and I'll continue to use him for all of my projects moving forward!

A problem developed with my halogen kitchen lights that required a professional. Looking through Yelps comments I decided on Rick and gave him a call. He asked a few questions then set a time and date that worked for me and he showed up on time and ready to work.  Of course, like most stuff in my house it was not simple but Rick was able to diagnose the problem, plan a course of action, consult with me about the options and then fix the issue. It was a great job, great price with friendly and curious service that made the experience a pleasant one.

Rick was SO informative on the phone. He basically told me what to do to fix my issue  (even though it meant no service call for him). That is outstanding service and you know you can trust a guy like Rick. Will def use him in the future.

It actually turned out that I needed him to come over.  Well given how great he is he was booked for TWO WEEKS.  However, I was in a bind and after explaining my situation he zipped right over and saved the day.

I called Rick today [5/23/12] and told him my problem.  He was professional, informative and NOT condescending at all.  Now being a typical woman, I have absolutely NO knowledge of electrical systems or anything electrical with the exception of changing a light bulb.  Rick told me he was busy, but he said he'd come to my home between noon and 1 p.m.  He got to my home at 12:14 p.m.  He took the time to explain what he needed to do and gave me a price.  His personality and manner of handling the situation with me was very impressive and immediately put me at ease.  He's going to do the work on Friday, June 1, 2012 and eventhough he has yet to start the work, I feel so confident in his electrical skills and knowledge, I have no doubt that the job will be done to perfection.  

I had no idea who to call to get this major electrical project done. I had asked friends and they could not recommend anyone.  I referred to Yelp and Rick had nothing but 5 star commendations.  So thank you fellow Yelpers for leading me to Rick's door.

I'll echo what others have said, Rick is amazing! He fixes issues no one else can figure out. He's polite, thorough, and competitively priced. He's always our go to for any work we need done.

Rick was simply awesome. After the units in our building each lost 50% of their power, we called PG&E, who told us that: a) an electrical cable was likely the culprit, and b) that said cables were buried underground, and therefore the responsibility of the building's owner to fix. They also indicated it was urgent that an electrician come and fix them.....cue Rick. He showed up after dinner and a long day on a different building job, with a great attitude and willingness to figure out what was going on. After some extensive testing and walking around the property (something the PG&E tech didn't do) he concluded that PG&E was INCORRECT in their assessment of the situation. The PG&E tech had claimed that our electrical cables were buried, an assumption based on looking at the other standalone buildings on our property (which indeed are buried underground). However, Rick noticed that there was cable coming from the street to our building, and after some extensive testing, was pretty sure the issue was at the street with this cable. He had me call PG&E, and hung out while I waited on hold for 25 minutes. He spoke to the original rep and had him come back out. Upon arriving, Rick pointed out the situation and the PG&E technician immediately acknowledged the error of assuming our building's cables were underground (hard not to when there's a cable coming in from the street right above your head). The tech got up on the truck, went up to the cables on the street, and immediately found the faulty connector and made the repair, within five minutes. Were it not for Rick's excellent troubleshooting skills and proactive recommendation to have the tech out to review the issue, we would have been without power through the night and into the morning. His great sense of customer service and deep expertise saved the day. Hard to find people like that these days. The next time we have any electrical issues, I'll be calling Rick on speed dial.

My landlord was required to make all the electrical plugs in my home GFCI and requested that I call around and get quotes. I had called a few other electricians; had (2) come out to our home and unfortunately, the estimate was extremely higher than what we expected it would be. So a few days pass and I am getting nervous, because this had a time crunch. I began typing electricians in the Google search bar and I searched by zip code and Rick Brown Electrical Contractor came up. I called a few others before I called him, but I had nothing to lose, so I called. He was actually on his way out of town as we were speaking, but I asked if I could please ask him a few questions, and he listened to my concerns, asked me to email him and told me that upon his return he would contact me.

I can't explain to you the comfort that I felt just speaking to him on the phone. There was something about him that made me trust him instantly. As women we are sometimes on guard when we need to call a plumber, an electrician, or any service that requires work to be completed and we are unsure of the appropriate pricing and guidelines. But Rick was very clear and explained in clear detail the difference in cost, price and what our choices were in making the plugs GFCI. I was on the phone with him for about maybe 5 - 10 minutes and I was already sure that he was my first choice and I would be sure my landlord knew that as well.
He was so professional and not only did I trust him, I also was comforted because I already knew before he even was hired that everything would be fine and the work would be completed on time and the price would be fair.

He came out the next week to do the work and he had one other assistant named Tyler, whom was also very nice and knew his profession also.  I am telling you we laughed, talked, he told me stories, I felt like I had known this man for years. He was very pleasant, but still professional; he explained everything that he did, why and what the purpose was; which is so very important. Because so many times people come and due work for you and they never explain to you what they are doing and why they are doing it. But with Rick, you will know exactly why. He is so wonderful and I just felt at ease with him there. I also knew that if I would have had to leave him in my home that too, would have been fine.

BOTTOM LINE: Top notch customer service, top notch understanding of his line of work and more importantly so professional and does an awesome job. So my advice is if you need an electrician please call this man and I promise that you will not be disappointed. HE is the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does Rick really need another 5 * review? Probably not. So, I'll shorten you're reading time so you can get to calling him. He knows his stuff. He's on time. His pricing is fair - he'll never try to sell you anything you don't need. He actually suggested IKEA for some lights for my home mixing studio and he was spot on - sorry, only one pun per review, is that right? Lastly, he's a blast to talk to, especially if you like music.

Such a nice guy! He came to give me an estimate the same morning I called and was so nice and polite. Would definitely call him again in a heartbeat!

My wife and I have an older San Francisco house from 1924, with both an old power service (fuses, knob and tube wiring) and a newer power service (circuit breakers, modern wiring). We have used Rick to repair our doorbell as well as some old fluorescent lights in the garage and have been really pleased with his work.
Our doorbell stopped working, so on the advice of a former electrician we bought a replacement doorbell chime and transformer. I keep my distance from most things electrical, so we started looking for an electrician to install the chime & transformer as our former electrician was no longer taking on small jobs. We turned to Yelp! for advice. We called in one guy who is listed in Yelp! and who did some work for a friend of ours; he wanted to rewire the entire doorbell system end-to-end for an amazing amount of money since he did not trust the old doorbell wiring. He also wanted to install the new chime in a really unattractive location. We then contacted a local lighting company who sent over a couple of unimpressive guys (Mutt & Jeff) whom we thanked and sent on their way. We eventually contacted Rick who came over, explained to us what needed to be done and that the old wiring would most probably be safe to reuse; he then gave us a reasonable estimate. He also gave us estimates for a few other activities, including fixing some flickering fluorescent lights in the garage, grounding a couple of electrical sockets and some minor work on our fuse box.
As we really needed the doorbell fixed but could live without the other items we scheduled a short visit to install the new chime & transformer, which he did in about 90 minutes. He tested the house wiring, which was fine. He returned a month later to repair our two fluorescent light fixtures, which would have been difficult to replace; he removed the interior components and replaced them with one that worked. He also gave us a few new lights, since our old unit uses older lights which are hard to find. He also let me know which fuses in my fuse box had the wrong amperage fuses in them, which was a hazard which I was able to replace after a trip to Ace Hardware.
Rick is both competent and friendly; his prices are reasonable. He's not trying to rip anyone off or intimidate the non-electricians of the world. We've recommended him to a couple of friends and will use him in the future as we still need to ground a couple of outlets.

The wife and I have been in our current place for over ten years, and we've had our share of electrical problems.  In the beginning, we shuttled through a number of electricians recommended by various people, but for the last 8 or so years, we've used Rick exclusively.

First, Rick is very responsive.  You call him; he calls you back.  Ditto with email.  If he needs to reschedule, he lets you know in advance.  And if you've worked with contractors to any extent, you know that this simple fact is HUGE.

Also, he's just as happy doing small jobs as he is big jobs.  We have had him in to put in lighting under our kitchen cabinets and replace all of our electrical outlets with childproof ones.  We've had no problems since he did them.  (That counts as a huge job for us, but he also did the lighting for the Harlot Nightclub on Minna, so he can do huge by anyone's standards.)

But he was also willing to come out to help us with our front gate buzzer.  We have a buzzer that unlocks our front door gate so that people can come in without us having to go down to it, and it started fritzing out.  I really liked that even though he had come out for this piddly job, Rick started by suggesting that he simply wrap the internal unit in electrical tape to keep the rain water out to see if that worked before he replaced the entire unit and charged us.  

Turned out that this fix didn't work and he had to come back and replace the entire unit, but I appreciated that he suggested the cheap (free!) option rather than simply doing the work the first time and charging us.

Overall, we love Rick.  He's responsive; willing to do large and small jobs; and he's very knowledgeable and charges a fair price for good, licensed work.

Finally, a professional electrician who knows his stuff and gets the job done!  We've been reticent about electricians b/c our prior experience wasn't done properly and cost too much.  Rick to the rescue!  He changed out our faulty dimmers, fixed our garage sensors and advised us on some wiring issues, which he'll resolve on his next visit.  I'm stoked with his work and knowledge.  He even is going beyond and offered to bring us the proper lightbulbs when he picks up parts for the next project we're having him work on.

He came highly recommended by our mother's group, was great working around my kids & pets, and I would only recommend him now to everyone I know who has electricial needs.  You won't be disappointed.  He's the ultimate professional electrician and a down-to-earth friendly guy!

Let me start by telling you that I am a very picky general contractor!  I met Rick on a job working for some wonderful clients and was very impressed by Rick. His demeanor is wonderful and I was very impressed with his knowledge and also the way he patiently explained everything to the clients, giving options along the way. His execution of the many projects from adding can recessed light, to rewiring rooms was done right from the beginning. It is a pleasure to have someone who understands the way you want something done and is able to finish the project without having to watch over or worry about it being done right.  Since our initial meeting I have used Rick on a dozen or so other projects for some very picky clients and everyone has been very happy with his work. Rick is the only one I would now call for anything electrical.

Rick is great. I own an Edwardian house (1906) and old houses always have issues. Whether it's fixing a light socket, adding a network cable outlet, or fixing old wiring, he really knows what he's doing. Prices are reasonable, work is quality, and Rick is really nice. For large jobs or small ones, he's the guy to call.

We've been without lighting/power in our bathroom for 2 days. Just got Rick on the phone and explained our problem. He said he'd be happy to squeeze me in before leaving town for the July 4th holiday (how nice!) but first said it might be an easy fix that could save me the time and money. While he was still on the phone, he had me push the Test and Reset button on the outlet and viola, lights! He said to call me the next time I have a real problem. ;-) I will!!!

We had 2 electricians come out and say all ok. And the problem was not resolved!  Rick comes out and is the only one to figure it out quickly and easily. I wasted a lot of money on those others; calling Rick from now on.

Rick just finished up an electrical project for me - a panel of light switches that were stuck and should be replaced. Very skilled, professional, on time. We set up another appointment for a larger project and look forward to seeing him again!

Rick assisted me over the phone with selection of a new bathroom fan or fixing the old one. He took time to explain what each would mean financially.  Once i purchased the  fan, he installed it for less than his estimate and in a shorter period of time. Rick recently completed a number of small projects in our home.  And we are considering a number of medium projects for Rick also.  I can recommend Rick without hesitation.

Rick understood what we wanted to do and came up ways to get it done at reasonable prices.  Rick returned my phone calls, arrived on time and the work was done efficiently and professionally.

I normally wouldn't give 5 stars, because no one is perfect.  But I can't find anything to criticize with Rick so 5 stars it is.

Great guy great job & has a wonderful girl friend.  It was Saturday & my old Victorian had wires in the light well that were exposed & LIVE!!! It was a lightening storm there & in the basement. Called Rick & he said he didn't work on Saturdays. However once he heard the problem he said he would be by later. His wonderful for friend said he should do it now.  So they came by for the job done quickly & were on their way. I was safe & thrilled. AND it was a reasonable price for weekend work.  Would use him again.

Can't say a bad thing about Rick.  Had an issue with our hallway light circuit and after trying a few things, the only thing I was sure of, was that if I kept screwing around, I was going to electricute myself.  Called Rick and he was able to come right over, identified the problem, and my hallway has light once again!  Friendly and straight forward, he gave me a few tips about my light switches as well.  Nice guy, good job, what more do you want?

impressive -- rick is working on a huge project so was upfront that he couldn't help this week BUT gave me some free advice and recommended calling Cole Hardware's referral service which can better deal with tiny jobs.  super nice & helpful guy!!

Rick installed an outlet behind our wall mounted TV. Did a great job, seemed relatively affordable. He's knowledgable, prompt, polite and clean. He recommended a guy that also did a great job repairing the plaster that had to be cut out of the wall to run the wires.

I called Rick based on these review.  He was fantastic.  Despite a busy schedule he turned up within the hour and resolved the issue speedily, painlessly and in a cost efficient manner.  I was very grateful and will be relying on his services in the future.

I call Rick based on 1 Yelp review at the time.  I needed a solution for dim lighting in my new home, and also wanted two new connections to be created for TV's, without wires running along my walls--i.e., a lot of drilling and fishing.  Rick replied immediately, came by and gave me an estimate, and then showed up on time and did a superb job for me, with a final price about 20% below his estimate! The lighting solution he proposed was practical and inexpensive, and worked, and the wiring was hidden behind the walls and looked great at the plug.  I'll certainly use him again.

Mr. Brown was personable and professional.  He changed all plugs to GCFI in my home.  He explained the entire job before, after and during the job.  He had given me an estimate and the finished job was exactly as he quoted.  He is  passionate about his craft and his customer service. He has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to a few other things as we talked on and off during his visit.  I felt very comfortable with him and will definitely use him again and refer him to whomever I know that may need his services.  When he left I felt as if a friend came to visit and fixed my plugs.   A++++++++++++

4:00 on the Friday before Memorial Day weekend, and our fridge blacked out, with a looming 4:40 pediatric appt to add more duress. Time was of the essence so immediately Yelped, saw Rick highly rated, called, and became relieved. He was heading out to a job yet was composed and polite and said he'd come over around 6 that evening after another job. Sure enough, he fixed our issue, explaining everything well along the way and being a true pleasure to have here. He is relaxed, extremely knowledgable, and really made an effort to assist in our dire situation. Because I was alone with our daughter, he even walked down the street, twice, to procure fuses that had blown. That helped immensely, rather than me having to wait till later to buy them then install later on my own. Very thoughtful. Well, another problem arose today, and just like on Friday, he was here in a breeze in his cheerful, capable manner and efficiently got the job done. We discussed some other tasks that might be done in the future, and I genuinely look forward to having him back!
