We called yesterday morning. The guy called right back, scheduled an appointment and showed up on time. By early afternoon our plumbing problems were in the rear-view mirror. The plumber wore a proper mask and paper boots, and left our kitchen as clean as he found it.
It's four stars rather than five because it cost slightly more than I would have expected. I guess I'm still getting used to the idea that if you want something done right you have to pay for it.
My purpose in writing a bad review of Power Plumbing in Mission Hills, San Diego, CA is to warn future clients on their dishonest way of getting a job by quoting a low price without a written estimate and then finishing the job and charging much more than they quoted. I called Powers Plumbing for an estimate to take out our old wholehouse water filter and put in a new one which we had bought. I had worked with Powers 16 years and trusted them. They also quote their hourly labor rate which we like. Unbeknownst to me they had sold their business to new owners.
The plumber arrived and looked at the job and quoted us 4 hours of work $756, and said he could start immediately as he had installed many of the brand we had bought. He said he had all he needed in his truck to do the job. We said fine and went inside. Later he said we needed a new water pressure gauge, and I drove and got a new one which he installed and charged an additional quarter of an hour for that.
When he finished and we asked the total figure, he quoted us $1,428.48 or $579.27 more or 41% more than he had quoted us. He said the difference was all the parts he used and he did not use the parts that came with the unit we bought. He never once mentioned he was going to use all new expensive parts. If he had told us this and give us a quote, we would not have used him. We paid him but after he left, we realized that he was dishonest in his estimate to get the job and we were conned! The next day there was also a leak from the pipes he installed. I called three times to talk to the owner about this, but he never called back and after calling and emailing to get a written invoice, we finally got a written invoice. About 7 days later someone called, and I expressed that the installation was leaking and that we felt we had been conned. He said he would send someone out to fix the leak and that he would get back to me. When he got back to me, he offered us a 10% discount or $140 which I refused.
What showed me that they are not an experienced, honest, and professional company is that he thought that it was perfectly fine the way they jacked the price up after the job was done in order to get the job and did not give a written estimate at the beginning of the job. We had a contracting business for years and would never have done this.
Before you use this company and make sure they give you a written estimate with a written guarantee (this will could take 3 or more days) before you let them start the job. C. J. San Diego, CA
I received a response to my review after five months. The response showed that the contract had not been read, the situation had not been looked at properly and I was told I could contact the company yet again about resolving the issues. This is not an acceptable way to conduct business. It is only a way to try to make the company look better on Yelp. Had my review actually been read, the contract, or the situation actually been understood, the company would have seen that the employee and the contract stated that they would cut the tile as explained again the morning that the work was done (and that the tile was old and easily taken off), that I had paid already for the additional repair on something else entirely and told they would do it for free (when it had been paid for), and that I've contacted the company repeatedly and been blown off. Telling me five months later that I can recontact the company is not appropriate. Not doing anything to resolve the issue, leaving a large hole and the response they did compounds the problems.
They sent a plumber who didn't know what he was doing. Because of this, he went over one hour and we had to pay for two hours. We were also charged for a part that was never used.
Avoid this company at all cost!
I have work contracted out with Powers Plumbing for a client in the past. They did a ok job. So I called them again. The dispatcher only told me they charge $169/hour.
Long story short.
1. They did NOT inform me of the driving time they charge.
2. When I arrived on site 35 min after the plumber arrived, he had done NOTHING - the scope was laying around on the driveway and ladder was still in his truck and he had keys from the lockbox in his hand. I stayed on site for a full hour.
3. Then I was charged for two hours of work! WORST OF ALL, when I questioned the 2 hours were charged, the OWNER called me - not to apologize for omission on their part or LISTEN to my observation and account for the hours at all, but to continue to defend for the 2 hour charge. No CUSTOMER RECOVERY. He was focusing on winning an argument. It's really a shame to see that happen in service business, especially with the OWNER of the business - which tells you a lot about the business!
To save myself from more angst and misery, I OFFERED TO
PAY HIM FOR GETTING NOTHING BACK, just to get him off my back and not wasting MORE TIME on his ego over the business matter at hand.
It may have been a long standing company as they claimed, but the current OWNER is not in the right mindset to run it or to OWN it.

These guys quoted an hourly rate. After completing the work in less than an hour, using NO new parts, added a previously undisclosed charge for shop supplies/consumables. I consider this misleading fraud.
Everyone at Powers treated me courteously, respectfully and in a friendly manner. They sold me the right product for the job, installed it properly, on time and did so courteously and at a fair price.
Powers Plumbing has been out on several occasions and always get the job done right. They are concerned about keeping the cost down for the customer and do like that.
We had a leak in an upstairs bathroom sink drain pipe in October of 2020.
We have a home built in the 1920s. We started repairs on the sink leak, which quickly devolved into a nightmare once ceilings, walls and floors were opened up. Turned out we had original cast iron pipes which were cracked and corroded. All the upstairs pipes needed replacing. Then the fall covid wave hit and we shut things down.
This month, April of 2022, we started back up. We found Powers Plumbing and their lead plumber, Corey. We are glad we did. He understands the issues of plumbing in older homes. He has been doing this for over 20 years. He answered our questions in an understandable way to the plumbing layman. Corey is courteous and polite. He is knowledgeable and experienced. He kept us up to date on the status of the job.
We are very happy with Powers Plumbing and the work by Corey. We have now found our go-to plumber and would recommend Corey at Powers to everyone.
We needed a few things done in our house - kitchen sink, laundry, bathroom and couple more things to fix
Cory was the one who helped us . He was on time, friendly and super knowledgeable.
Cory was able to repair everything requested in a timely matter.
Will definitely use their services again.

After using Powers for a dozen years, we are done. Loved the idea of patronizing a local, non-chain place. And we had good experiences with buying parts at their storefront. Yet, for half of the time we've used them, they have been unsatisfactory. We just kept giving them one more chance, which was dumb of us.
They only charge $100 for a plumber! But... that starts from the moment they leave the shop. We can walk there in 15 minutes, but apparently it takes 20 min. to drive to our house. And sometimes you get a plumber (Eric is good!), but sometimes you get an apprentice. And sometimes you get a plumbing technician, which is someone with less skill than most apprentices, and who isn't even on track to learn more. We have had several jobs started by someone who just wasn't up to it, then had to wait for a real plumber to come out and finish/fix the problem, often at added cost.
There was the water heater. The guy who came was really clueless and kinda chaotic. He was here for like 5 hours before he finally admitted defeat and got a real plumber to come finish the job. It took the real plumber under 2 hours (half of which was fixing the first guy's mess). We were charged for all of it.
Then there was the non-emergency sewer rooting. The eager and friendly apprentice assigned to the job just shoved the (skinny) rooter in the hole 'til enough feet had gone in to reach the main. He reported no real blockage and only a few roots. The next day, sewage backed up into our shower. Turns out he had only punched a little hole through a soft blockage. Things he had NOT done included actually pouring water into the sewer access to see if it ran out, and checking the second access (which we had pointed out to him). So, now its a plumbing emergency! But, now it's the weekend! So the rates are higher! Eric to the rescue- it took him hours to figure out what the knucklehead had done, get it rooted right, test it, and reinstall our toilet (which he pulled for better access 'cause at first he couldn't believe the line was really blocked after apprentice rooted it...).
And the wall heater we bought from them that died 6 years later.
And....
I have known Janet and Allen for over 15 years through our mutual passion for historic preservation. They have done outstanding work for San Diego historic resources! When the plumbing company that had been working on our condo's multiple plumbing issues were finally going to get our bathroom sink back in operation after two months of not having a working bathroom sink weren't able to get us scheduled for another week I said, I know some plumbers! I put in a request through the Powers Plumbing website and within a couple of hours I got a call from Janet saying they had a cancellation and could get someone out there in an hour or so!
Jonathan arrived very quickly with all the items he needed to hook our sink back up. He was wearing a protective mask and politely asked if he could come in. I showed him to our bathroom and he got right to work. Before I knew it he was done! He put in all new connections to get our 1.375 sink drain pipe hooked up to the new 2.5 wall pipe. It looks and works great! I did a little dance of joy for not having to wash my hands or brush my teeth using the bathtub or kitchen sink faucets any longer!!
Thank you Janet and Jonathan!
We did a full remodel and had a decent amount of plumbing work to be done. The plumbers did a nice job and seemed very capable- no complaints there. My concern was around their business model and customer experience. With probably 10 visits in total, many times they would book us at the end of the day and only have a 2 hour block so I was charged the service fee each time they came... even if they had to do the job over 2 days because they only had an hour or two even though the scope of the job was more... I'm not sure why you continually charge to come for the same unfinished job. I finally switched plumbers at the end because they came- said they didn't have time to do anything and would just come back the following monday (they didn't... then called to schedule at the end of the week) and still had the nerve to charge me for that visit. Good plumbers, challenging business management.

Plumbing Debacle. My experience was really jarring. I experienced really poor workmanship by two of their plumbers on what should have been routine installs of new sinks, commode and shower fixtures. Provided all new quality fixtures with all new plumbing previous to install. What I received from them was really sloppy work with a leaking sink and commode that leaked through to the floor below! Owner saw no urgency to my request for repair and was aggressive and arrogant instead of simply providing honest and efficient customer service. The whole experience was not good.
I felt comfortable with Powers Plumbing shortly after Jason answered my call first thing in the morning.... and it only got better when Corey arrived to replace my tankless water heater later that same afternoon. Jason understood the urgency to get my job completed before Saturday and arranged to have Corey, who happened to be very familiar (I'd say an expert) with the Noritz water heater, come to my home to get the job done, which he did in a short couple of hours. I can't say enough about Corey. He is very knowledgable, works very fast, and cleaned up everything before he left. It's guys like him that make you realize that you picked the right company to do your job.
I'd give these guys 10 stars if it were an option! Thanks to Powers Plumbing and to Corey for a job well done.

Eric was very professional and awesome. He showed up and knew right what to do to fix our plumbing issues. He gave us some good advice and recommendations for the future as to how to prevent our back ups from happening again. If we need a plumber in the future we will not hesitate to reach out to Powers. Thank you so much!

We used Powers for the first time yesterday and it was an A+ experience. From the person on the phone who scheduled the visit to the friendly and efficient guy who fixed our shower, customer service and value were top notch. We even got an update call to let us know the plumber would be arriving in the second half of the 2-hour time slot they promised instead of the first half. In my opinion a lot of service companies who come to your home give you more like a 4-hour window and don't care if they come 5 min before the end! David fixed our shower drain quickly, didn't try to sell us something we didn't need, and charged us for the minimum time period. He left the bathroom clean and was super nice on top of that. We will definitely be using Powers again and recommending them to our friends!
Another 5! Had Eric from Powers come out to replace the bottom seal on a toilet & a few other items. I completely agree with my first review! This company rocks! There are two things every homeowner should have, a great plumber and a great electrician! Here is your great plumber! Eric is awesome! As is Jason, I totally forgot about some parts needed to fix a sink, they emailed me and forgot to respond to that too - I get stuck in the distance learning time warp. Jason followed up with a call which was awesome! He's going order what I need and set things up so I don't have to run all over town to get parts. Prices are good and competitive and you can rest easy knowing the job is done right.

Amazing!
I have a gravity floor heater from around 1946. Eric knew exactly what to do, fixed my heater and it's now working perfectly. If you have an old home...no need to look past Powers Plumbing!
We used Powers plumbing for the first time because of some good reviews on Nextdoor. We had a couple leaky toilets which are simple inexpensive repairs except for the labor which we expected. What we felt was excessive and increased our bill a lot , was the driving charge. We only live about 10 min from their Mission Hill office. They made two round trips because they had to come a second time. We were charged $125 extra labor with a total bill of $404.35. Thank god they didn't get stuck in a traffic jam!
We had a great experience with Powers at every step: Jason in Parts was very helpful and informative on my first call, Janet efficiently handled my call for an appointment and got me scheduled much earlier than I expected; today Eric called, as promised, before he came, then carefully and efficiently fixed our 'very hard-to turn' bathroom sink faucet! We will use them again for our plumbing needs!
Super reliable service! We're having issues with water leaking from our roof and couldn't figure out how to turn off the water for the building. I called Powers and Janet was extremely helpful. She was able to give some recommendations and had a gentlemen come out and help us with all our small requests! He was efficient and very knowledgeable during the service call. We found ourselves a new local plumbing company. Thank you again Janet!!

Super friendly service and care the same day! Highly recommend! Very upfront on costs ect
Horrendous customer service! I rarely (if ever) write negative reviews. I am a real estate agent and referred Power's Plumbing to a client to give an estimate and camera inspection. After showing up over an hour late and expressing confusion over what they were there for and everything we already discussed on the phone, they proceeded with the estimate. 3 days later, my clients received an invoice that was $120 over what the clear agreed price was and when confronted, the employee who made the mistake first said they would make it right and fix it, then the owner, after accusing me to my client behind my back of creating problems, said they would not change the invoice.
I, of course, can't charge my client for this, so I let Power's know that if they really have this much lack of customer service, they can bill me (the referring agent) the excess fee and send a separate invoice if they want payment. They failed to do so after that and the owner just called 30 days later to pretend we never had this conversation and try to charge interest on the original invoice.
I rarely see this bad of customer service and lack of responsibility. Not only did they lose a $9k job over it, but any future business that I have the ability to refer. I'm surprised they can't see past that and would rather rip client's off. Then again, I should have seen from the negative reviews in the past that this is just how they choose to operate. Save yourself the trouble and find a different plumber.
They are basically charging me for the Hour they made ME wait for their late arrival.. Almost laughable.

Eric came out, during our COVID lockdown, and was able to get the shower back online in short order. Old copper pipe that had to be cut and a new one soldered on. He was courteous, quick, and very professional - highly recommend. Dave
They charged me for 3.5 hours of work. They were at my home for 40 minutes. They say in their van fir 30 minutes and I get a bill for 2 more hours I called and told them the issue and they ignored me
Horrible people to do business with
I don't write reviews typically
2 times in my life
Janet who claimed to be a co owner was condescending and unapologetic . Continually interrupting. Jason the manager was blasé and both unwilling to accommodate us for a problem they were originally called out for which was never addressed. $1400 later and 2 visits they have the nerve to send a new invoice. their response to come back and actually look at the problem was we have to charge you and interview your tenant!!! Of course my electrician and I have already explained what the issue was too many times
I would not recommend Powers Plumbing. After 2 plumbers came out and a week later Powers replaced a leaky kitchen faucet. I found Janet lacked customer service and was difficult to communicate with.
They also start charging when they leave their office. Thankfully we live close but that strikes me as wrong.

Just had my heater go out and Corey at Powers plumbing was so accommodating and professional. My schedule has been hectic with work and Covid and he went out of his way to make sure my heat was on before another cold night. Wore a mask the whole time and was super kind . Highly recommend!

Just wanted to give a warning to any and all prospective consumer who contemplates doing business with these guys. First of all I called to get information about getting a job done on replacing a supply line from the wall to my ice maker for a new refrigerator that I bought. The old line had some corrosion right behind the valve ( which is not out of the ordinary because the line was at least 10 years old ).
1. $106 just to come out to inspect the job.....they charge door to door....which means from the time they get in their vehicle and arrive at your door....you are being charged at $106 per hour. If they get caught in traffic it doesn't matter....you're gonna get charged that rate. If it they come after 4 pm....it costs $159 and that's with no estimate for repairs. While they are doing an estimate you are being charged. ( If it's after 8 pm the cost is over $200 an hour....so it better be an extreme emergency for that rate)
2. They were trying to estimate without ever seeing the issue ( which I told them was really a simple fix but because I am out of state I had renters who needed this fixed ) just replace the corroded supply line from the wall to the valve which regulates the water supply.
3. They were already up to close to $300 and they were already talking about more charges which by this conversation was nearly $400...RIDICULOUS AND OUTRAGEOUS.
4. I found an independent contractor who ....get this....charged no fee to come look at the issue as I sent him photos and a description of what was going on. He actually charges by the job....if it only needs a line then he charges for the parts and labor which was less than the charge from these guys to drive over and would continue to pad the job and charge....unscrupulous business practice of weighing the consumers wallet.
5. They even wanted to charge for phone calls in setting up a visit....added time they said! DO NOT use these shysters as they look for excuses to charge for anything....was surprised that they didn't want to charge me for oxygen that they used to talk with me.
BUYER BEWARE
Addendum......
Let's be clear....you didn't read my review thoroughly....your conversation with my wife was listened to....I heard what you said. You want to have carteblanche to add charges like its some kind of taxi service and YOU DID say that you would charge for phone calls...deny it all you want. NO....I didn't use your service and my wife cancelled the appointment for good reason....why would we commit to using your services when it's all about fees and extra charges before you even got to the residence? You told my wife that any conversations ( phone calls that we would make would be charged...are you for real? What spaceship did you fly in from to actually say that you will bill us for a call?
I see that your positive reviews are from consumers that only have 1 review....that means you are using plants that give you a positive statement....paid reviews in other words. Here's the deal Janet.....if people want to use your company then my advice to them is get a true checklist of charges.....let them hear from you that the charges are from door to door.....rate per hour which starts at $106....if after 4 pm ( it then goes to $159----who only works til 4 pm esp. with your service industry? )
My warning is for consumers who might fall for your bait and switch tactics....let them call your company to get the real story as to how you do business....but my advice is for Consumers to get a factual estimate that they sign for instead of being strung along and get charged for more things that they will obviously have to deal with. But they need to undertand that they are going to pay the first hour even if you don't fix anything.....they will be already indebted to you and that's your companys business plan is to get them in and then add more charges, right Janet? Nice try in trying to dilute the conversation with your convoluted response and outright lie....you know what you said and I know what I heard and what you told my wife.
9:01 PM
If you want to continue this with half truths I'll be more than happy to keep answering you because I have ALL the facts and consumers can fact check this by calling your Company and find out if what I'm saying is honest....I challenge anybody to fact-check by getting an estimate first and charges.....I can debate this all day long and I won't charge you for it either.
These guys added a $125 quote fee late minute and when I said I was going to call another plumber as well to get an appointment they canceled my appointment on me
I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Robert at Powers Plumbing. I think everyone dreads having to call a plumber but he was able to make the experience at lot less stressful. Down the line this was an excellent plumbing experience. From the person that answered the phone, to their on time service, to their expertise, to their solution to my problem...all first rate.
That said...I hope I never see you again. :) But if I do have a problem in the future, you will be my first call. Thank you.

Plumbers were nice, however, one one occasion, this company gave us a bill that documented the services rendered and the price. We paid it immediately. We then get notification that do to *their* error, they undercharged us and demanded that we pay to cover the amount that was not originally charged. The difference was 10 percent of the actual cost of the job, and they treated to call a collection agency.
Now, I get it, we should pay what was due. However, it was their error, and we paid what was due on time on the original invoice. It was *their* error, not ours. I have a wife who runs a small business, she tells me that usually their company would eat it and not request their customers to correct a similar error.
Needless to say, we have had plumbing issues and have chosen another plumber. It is too bad, because this company is a local neighborhood company and literally within walking distance.

Powers plumbing has been extremely prompt and does excellent work. But the best attribute that I have seen is not from the plumbers who come out but also from everyone including the customer service representives which have
such positive empathic energy.
I feel so lucky to have Powers Plumbing as my plumbing company. They have worked on plumbing problems at my house from time to time for years now and every single time I thank my lucky stars for them. I am leaving this review now because 9 days ago I walked into a disaster in my guest bathroom, with sewage spewed from the toilet onto the bathroom floor and guest room carpet. I called Powers Plumbing, and it was after hours. Instead of getting an answering service I got Janet herself (I think she is the manager). Immediately she said she would send the after-hours plumber as soon as he finished the job he was at, and she recommended that I call a restoration company right away, something I had not thought of as I stood on my soggy carpet and surveyed the horrible mess. She recommended a restoration company, I called them, and their team was at my house 30 minutes later to clean things up -- after hours. And the Powers plumber arrived shortly after. This is typical of all my experiences with Powers: an attempt to get to the job as soon as they can, very competent plumbers and staff, personal service where people know me, going the extra mile and thinking beyond just the service they will provide to what else is needed, and low turnover so I have a good chance of getting a plumber who has been to my house before. The restoration company that Janet recommended has been extraordinary, and like them every company they have brought in (for asbestos testing and then asbestos mitigation) have been top-notch as well -- accessible, knowledgeable, punctual, professional, competent. I would not likely have had such a good experience post-sewage spill if Janet had not recommended this restoration company to me. Also I have recommended Powers Plumbing to friends and they have all thanked me for turning them on to this great company.
Might be a small shop Mom and Pop Shop HOWEVER loads of knowledge!!! Always an honest approach to any issues you might have all over SD A++
Eric from Powers Plumbing is awesome! He came out and fixed our complicated plumbing problem. After dealing with our Home Warranty company, which sent out two different plumbing companies, both who would not complete the job, all of our toilets as well as bathtub and shower were backed up. I requested Powers Plumbing because I heard that they were the best plumbing company in San Diego, and they did not prove me wrong!
Eric was prompt, professional and knowledgeable. He went above and beyond the call of duty to get our problem resolved. He spent hours to get our bathrooms back up and running. If you want the job done right, I would suggest calling Powers Plumbing first.
I recommend Eric, and for all future plumbing issues, I will not hesitate to request Eric from Powers Plumbing.
We are very happy to have our bathrooms back! Thank you, Eric!
Powers saved the day with a total re pipe of our historic home. Bid #1 was 3 times Powers' bid. Bid #2 (one of San Diego's largest companies) the guy leveled with us and said, job too big for us now. There's a lot of work out there now for plumbers. Janet, Shane, Eric and everyone beneath them did a great job. Eric volunteered to work on Presidents' Day to keep the job on schedule. As landlords, we know our stuff and Powers' work and price were right on!

Once again, Powers did a great job. I own a duplex in Mission Hills and both units had minor issues and I had a big issue with an outdoor leaky valve. Manny was courteous, knowledgeable and fixed all 3 issues with a minimum of fuss and cost. Powers has always employed good plumbers (been a customer since 1986) but what I really appreciate is that I do not have to worry about gouging or overcharging. This is such an honest company. I would recommend them for any job, big or small (they have done both for me thru the years).
There is a reason they can call themselves best San Diego plumber.
Powers Plumbing has been our plumbers for several years and they are terrific. Janet has always been great at sending out someone as soon as she can and they are very professional. We recently had a plumbing emergency on Friday afternoon at 5 o'clock and Eddie was right there and working with me to find the source of a burst solar panel that was sending a Niagara Falls sheet of water off our roof. He and Shane did a great job.

$186 for 20 minutes of service and could not resolve problem. Worth it? I think not.
Although it was an after hours call, I was not informed that it would cost even more after 8pm!
Janet was helpful on the phone, but Matt did not seem able to figure anything out about the leak, apart from saying you need to take up the floor!
Make sure you know that billing time starts from the time they leave their office until the time they get back to their office. Wish my job worked like that.
The next day I called Welby Construction and Ed came out immediately and was able to locate the problem within 20 minutes. Had nothing to do with the floor as the leak was in a pipe in the ceiling. How wrong was Powers Plumbing.
Would not use this company again.
Another great job and reasonably priced too! It is very easy to be taken advantage of when you don't know anything about plumbing. This is not so with Powers Plumbing. The first job was a clog, this time was pipe replacement. I have found them again to be professional, courteous and competent at their job! Thank you to Will and Carlos for an excellent job and to Shane for an honest quote!! I would definitely use this company in the future!

We called Powers and told them that our kitchen faucet was leaking. They sent someone out who said yes it was leaking and yes you need a new faucet---and charged us $60 for a 5 minute visit. So, we got a new faucet and called Powers again to schedule a plumber to come out and install it. The owner said that we would be the first on the schedule (they are 5 min away) and they would be there at 8 o'clock. We changed our schedule to accommodate the 8 o'clock appointment. At 8:30 AM no plumber had appeared and so we called Powers. We were told that the owner called an employee meeting and that's why they were late. We did not receive a call from Powers that they would be late , AND we the customer, changed our schedule to meet theirs. This is not a customer focused company and we'll find another plumbing company

Over the last six months we've had the unfortunate experience enlisting Powers Plumbing to conduct multiple jobs on our home.
In summation we spent over three thousand dollars, they sent six different guys out in as many trips, and never solved the problem. We are young home owners of an old house and aren't terribly handy or knowledgeable, but not dummies. My wife is a young and successful physician and I'm a national leader for one of the fastest growing publicly held technology companies in the world. We feel Powers took advantage of us.
We first called them to fix a blockage on a weekend. Two plumbers spent several hours trying to troubleshoot the problem. They fixed the issue eventually after several hundred dollars worth of service. Shortly thereafter the issue resurfaced and they came back to resolve the issue. We live in an older home with some remaining g older cast iron so we understand these issues can arise. However, Powers insisted we install a clean out which was an expensive installation. Two months later, when we other plumbers come and they pointed out that a clean out was already in place only ten feet up the line. Did we need the clean out Powers insisted on installing? According to 3 other reputable plumbers, NO.
We eventually decided to proactively replace the cast iron under our house. Powers became unresponsive when it came time to actually solve the issue. Do yourself a favor, save yourself some money, and call Bill Howe or Monty's Plumbing.
Update: I appreciate the company attempting to make right (and confirming that they charged a full 30min for a 7min drive- so I got charged $50 for someone to drive 7min up a street) I think that works out to $10 a stop sign . Fact of the matter is that there was confusion. Maybe I am the exception to the rule but as an example today I was resent the invoice twice. Once telling me that I needed to pay the $123 again then a subsequent a minute later stating that it was paid in full. I don't dispute the charges but today is just another example of how the billing needs to improve.
Update: owner tried to bill me a 3rd time (I'm not joking). I have proof of payment(s) and will be reporting to BBB (can't give 0 stars)

Shame on them! The only reason I am giving this company 1 stars and not 0 is because the system forces you to at least give 1. My 92 year old grandfather had been a loyal customer of this company until Janet O'Dea literally tried to rip him off. He called for service on a Thursday evening, which was emergency service - totally understood. The guy that they sent out could not fix the problem completely, his exact words were I am unable to complete the job someone will be by tomorrow to finish the work. They still presented a bill that night for 1.5 hrs of service when he had only been there 20 minutes - we assumed we were paying for the Friday work that would complete the job - so we paid them on the spot in full. Friday comes around they never call and don't show up, so we call to inquire they inform us they are running late should be there in an hr or so. Guess what, still no call no show! We call again, this time being told they won't be able to make it today (keep in mind it is now almost 5 pm and we have been home all day waiting for them to finish the job they have already been paid for) so Janet's exact words with two witnesses one of whom is a preacher says we will come tomorrow (Saturday) at no charge! Saturday they finally show up finish the job and leave not presenting any type of bill or requesting any payment as expected we already paid and Janet reaffirmed this by saying no payment. Three weeks later they try and send my grandfather a bill for over $300, when we already paid them in full $297. When I wrote my first Yelp review Janet had the nerve to message me personally on Yelp asking me to take my review down. I have a right as a customer to advise the public of your unfair business practices and attempts to take advantage of a 92 year old man. My grandfather disputed the bill, yet they did not assist him. My grandfather complained against this company to the bbb who closed the dispute as business replied, but not resolved - because the Bbb cannot force a business to comply or impress upon them any type of resolution they simply attempt to mediate between the business and the consumer. At no point did the Bbb say they agreed with the business they closed the complaint as business replied but complaint remains unresolved! My grandfather has now passed away, we advised Janet of this - yet she still continues to harass our family, including my aunt now since she learned of his passing. How she sleeps at night, I don't know! My aunt is now getting a mediator to fight the charge and if that does not work will be taking this company to court! As I mentioned before my grandfather had used this company on 3 other occasions and every time was presented a bill at the time of service when payment was due. Never once had the company come to do work showed no type of bill and then attempted to bill 3 weeks later, especially after not calling and not bothering to show up! I advise you to stay far away from this company as they are not trustworthy or reliable and don't ever bother to properly communicate with their clients. On top of that my family does not appreciated being harassed both on Yelp and personally by Janet! She is truly a troubled person and I honestly pray that God helps her because what type of person goes after a 92 year old deceased man's family????? I am absolutely disgusted and horrified by this business and their unethical business practices. I do not recommend them to anyone!
Apparently harassing customers is a business practice of theirs because in reading the other negative reviews about this company Janet has also replied to their reviews also asking them to take down and or change their reviews! Don't believe me, take a look for yourself at the other negative reviews and sure enough you will see Janet attacking another former customer for writing an honest review about her negative experience with the company! Someone should inform her that is what Yelp is for, to share positive and negative experiences with other potential clients! Perhaps if they provided pleasant experiences, they wouldn't be begging the Yelp community to change their reviews of their unethical business practices and terrible customer service or lack there of!
And did I mention they caused property damage???
Fixed up my bathroom real nice. They were on time and very professional. Their quote was the cheapest but quality of work was on point.
We needed repairs for two of our toilets. One toilet had a handle that would stick and the other was continually running. Basically a new handle on one and and a new flapper on the other. Parts and labor were $335.00. These are usually repairs I (and most homeowners) can take care of themselves. I didn't have the spare time so I called Powers. Plumber (Carlos) seemed to know what he was doing but 2¼ hours for a simple toilet fix seems excessive to me. The bad part is that they didn't even fix the broken handle. Just sprayed some lube and told us not to crank the handle too hard. When I called about this, I was told that they would have to order a new handle and it would involve another trip. (Charging for both handle and labor).
Needless to say, I will order and install the part myself. We will make sure to pick another plumber if have any new plumbing issues. It is too bad, because this company is a local neighborhood company and literally within walking distance.
Had the best experience with Powers Plumbing. We just moved into our place July 1st and I can't even count how many plumbers have been out here in the past two months. Powers Plumbing came out and did an incredible job. Eric was super sweet and very helpful and even checked our other bathroom's plumbing to make sure everything was running smoothly. I would highly recommend spending the extra dime to hire these guys. Its worth every penny. Thanks again Eric and Powers Plumbing. You just made a college students life a lot easier.
Did you know that L.B. Powers also repairs older floor and wall furnaces? Well - Yes they do. Not only that, but they are honest, knowledgeable, and considerate.
I had two other companies look at my non-working floor furnaces. The first (Anderson) told me that it would be a few thousand dollars to repair my existing furnaces and that I should install a new forced air system (for over $7 grand). The second (Howe) gave me an estimate of over $800. Powers gave me the price of parts (new gas valves) and the hourly rate for labor and a range for the number of hours it might take. They carefully diagnosed the problem, replaced one gas valve, and repaired the pilot on the other furnace, then tested for carbon monoxide. The whole job took 4.5 hours and only needed 1/2 the parts quoted by the other company.
I am totally happy with L.B. Powers' service, attitude, considerate staff, and quality of repairs. I would not hesitate to call them again for any plumbing or older furnace repair.
This is a local family business for decades for a reason. As a realtor, I have the occasion to work with many types of contractors - for my own house and for many clients. All service providers are not created equal! There are those that don't show up on time, don't show up at all, over charge, charge for work they don't do or make mistakes then don't fix them. In the industry word gets around.
Powers Plumbing is a class act. They are always on time (if not early). They are honest, fair and do it right the first time. I have called them out to fix something that I thought was going to be a big mess and costly just to have them let me know it's not as bad as I thought and an inexpensive fix. There aren't many plumbers that would tell you that. All told, I have used them personally or recommended them to clients about 12 times and every time I'd give them 5 stars.
That's worth Yelping about.

Scheduled an appointment easily, they called to see if we were ready early, because they were, we said yes, they said yes, and things were off to a good start already! In an hour, both cartridges to hot and cold in a bathroom sink were fixed and a loose pipe tightened up under a sink in another bathroom. That even included a round trip back to the shop to get some parts. All that and the price was still right. Very competent and made what could have been a difficult job, very easy.
Revised Posting:
Powers Plumbing came through in a big way to fix the mishap due to our hot water heater install, all is well now. The owners and lead representatives worked after hours to sincerely remedy the problems caused by their employee's poor decisions. We believe their efforts are quite good and their intentions as well.
We encourage customers to be present during any and all work on their home/property, regardless of trade or specific contractors. This would have made everyone's experience far more enjoyable.
Previous Posting:
Bad Experience...recovery pending
Hot water heater replacement was scheduled, 3 days later the first of (3) plumbers arrived at our building to execute the work. Good start...not so much. Old water heater was disconnected and drained, yet existing water pipes were left to leak onto the floor. Thankfully, after returning from work at 6pm, we checked the progress and found running water flooding the laundry room. We spent much of our evening cleaning the mess, and frantically calling the emergency contact person. After another hour, their senior plumber showed up to handle damage control.
Emergency repairs were coordinated promptly by their supervisor, and repairs were made to reinstall the new water heater. As of this posting, water damage mitigation has begun, and we have hot water now on the third day.
I'll update this as progress develops.
These guys were just amazing from start to finish. I had an urgent need to get a gas line moved a little so my new stove would fit. I called, and the person answering the phone was helpful and set up an appointment for the same day. He went over their pricing, and it seemed very fair to me. The guy that showed up (Eric I think) was polite, and worked efficiently and quickly. He wrote up the bill, and it was just like we expected. I have a couple other things I need done, and I will be using these guys again. I just could not be more pleased!! Thanks guys.
LB Powers is great. They really know their stuff and they are nice people too. I am sure that you can find a cheaper plumber, but in my experience, you get what you pay for. A little leak can do a lot of damage.
I have had these guys come out a couple of times and they are consistently good. Today, Martin came out. He was cool, he talked to me about what he was doing while he did it so I could learn. I would reccommend them to anyone that asks.
With an old house built around the turn of the century, it is nice to have a plumber in town that works on the old stuff.
I can't say enough about these guys.
If you have a good experience ( or a bad one) let's hear about it.
I used Powers because of their previous standing in the community. I don't know if it has been sold or operated by another, but something has changed. There were problems and errors and those things can happen. It was the aftermath and the overcharging that could not be remedied in fairness that leaves me concerned. I was accepting that it was just my experience until a friend told me yesterday that she had the same issues.
My kitchen was left with holes in walls that were because of worker errors. I paid to fix them with my contractor without complaint and Powers felt like I should pay for the time, the overtime and the holes myself. I'm completely miffed that they refused to see their error. The office claims, without seeing the job, that they were looking for a vent. The truth is the existing vent was used in the beginning of the job and the holes were a random investigation for something the workers offered to add in and made a big mistake in trying. The manager refused to speak with her employees because she said they would say black and I would say white. I offered to go to small claims to remedy the $1600 overcharge from the bid and they agreed. Instead of keeping their word, they sent the overage to a bill collector after I paid the $3000 of the original invoice. The perfect move if one is going to lose in court anyway. Interesting group. I want no further involvement. Ignorance, stupidity or evil...it's not my thing.
I do repairs for commercial and retail locations and when my guys were stuck on a job and couldn't get out for an emergency call I was left calling plumbers for at least an hour with no responses before I found these folks. They were available to answer my call and happy to work with my requirements. They were on the job site within 15 minutes of me sending them the information... 15 minutes, no lie!!! I can't even get a pizza that fast. When they showed up it turned out to be a simple issue and they were finished and had left the site within half an hour. Janet's email response is lightning quick and the technicians are fantastically friendly. I've sent them on 3 calls since my first experience and all have been handled with the same exceptional customer service as the first. I will definitely be calling them again. Highly Recommended!!
This company is supposed to charge an hourly rate as posted on its website. This is not what happened in our case. When asked about the invoice that didn't match the hours worked or the verbal quote received, we were told that the employee was using an approximate round number to give you a general idea. Resolving the dispute became very personal and drawn out. We later hired another plumber to do additional work and had an entirely different and satisfactory experience.

I've been using Powers Plumbing for only a year but have a residence and several condos that need their services. You won't find a better plumbing company in town. They are responsive, reasonably priced, friendly, and do a great job - and they are woman-owned and run like a family business. Plus they are good neighbors that support the community when they can.
Why would anyone go anywhere else.

Eric was an excellent plumber. He was polite, friendly, knowledgable and made recommendations that he discussed with me. I would definitely use Eric again. Great plumber!

Started using Powers Plumbing after another plumber botched a job for me. Brought in Powers and have been using them for years. Great service and Janice (the owner) answers the phone and remembers me now. Everyone they've sent knows their stuff. Most are super friendly (got a grumpy one only once). Prices are super fair and no BS.
Very knowledgeable but it still took 3 visits to fix shower faucet. Will continue to use them as they are pleasant, efficient when here and reasonably priced. One suggestion is to stop assuming the worst and placing blame on customer. In my case the final mounting of dial was put on incorrectly and no caulking was done to seal the fixture. After an email and a pretty negative attitude from them, they came out and fixed and finished the job at no additional cost. Hans Grohe is a great brand so please stop complaining about it. Once the parts are correct, it took your plumber 10 minutes to fix it. It was that easy and it went together perfectly. Lesson learned:,no DIY for me for plumbing. I will call Powers Plumbing. Thanks.
We use Powers Plumbing all the time. Today Carlos came out. He was professional, communicative, and highly competent. He had it all resolved in less than an hour.
Couldn't be happier!
Thanks Powers,
Karen

Just had a small plumbing need . Called Powers Plumbing and Eric came out did a great job price was good and did a great job. They are in my neighbor hood so would use again. I would highly recommend !!
FANTASTIC customer service... we had a major sewer back up and as you can imagine we were in a panic and needed some help QUICK! After reading a few reviews, I choose to call Powers Plumbing, over the 'big name, recognized' cooperate companies. I was VERY impressed with the entire process. I firmly believe that small businesses deserve recognition, and even more so when they do an outstanding job! Our clean out was not a simple task, and yet the plumber returned on day #2 to make sure we were up and running again. I can not thank them enough. They have certainly gained a costumer for life!! Thank you to Janet and the team!
Powers Plumbing has been our plumber of choice for many years! Not only have they helped take care of our basic plumbing and heating needs, but have also been there for major emergencies with our rental homes. Always polite, service oriented and dedicated to solid customer service, I wouldn't think of calling anyone else for any plumbing or heating problem.... I highly recommend Powers Plumbing to anyone who is looking for solid service history, exceptional expertise, and rock solid interpersonal skills!

Called Powers Plumbing last week to clear, was I presume a root blockage in the sewage pipe. The staff at the office was very professional setting up the appointment and forthcoming regarding the rates (which are very competitive). Eric from Powers came out today and was awesome! Again, very professional and a nice guy to boot. He spent the time to make sure everything was cleared and all systems go. Thanks Eric! I definitely recommend Powers Plumbing!

We had a very deep clog in our toilet (a friend thought it would be a great idea to flush a fistful of makeup tissues down). We tried both an auger and a plunger. On top of that we live in a duplex, and the pipes of the house were rearranged by management making the clog even more complicated. Chris Valencis (our plumber) went above and beyond to fix the problem. He made sure he tried every solution before having to resort to removing the toilet. In addition, he made sure to get the job done before I had to go to work and left the toilet area clean as a plus. Will definitely hit this plumbing company next time I experience a problem.
Robert of Powers Plumbing came to my place twice in the past week - the first time to do a temporary fix on a leaky pipe (after hours rates were in effect so we just wanted to stop further leakage quickly and let us turn the water back on), and again to do the real repair. On both visits he arrived when promised, did the work quickly and competently, had all necessary tools and materials at hand, and even followed instructions to keep the door closed so as to not let the cats out. ;) I would not hesitate to call this company again.

Called to fix a faucet not properly working at my business:
Plumber comes in 1st time: a new part is needed, ok, so he orders the part.
Plumber comes a second time to install the part, but is not the correct one.
The plumber apparently talks to my staff and tells them the faucet cannot be fixed, but it works fine, my staff accepts the explanation and the plumber leaves.
I got a bill for $ 209 today. I called back the office and the person on the phone apologizes and says he is going to talk to the owner. Needless to say i told the office clerk that i can pay for one diagnostic visit, but thats it: my faucet is the same as it was before their visits.
I got a call back few minutes later with apologies and sorryes, which doesnt fix or solves anything by the way, then my bill now is lowered to $160. Hahahaha. I asked why dont they come and fix the issue at least, and the clerk says on the phone that the issue i have with my faucet cannot be fixed: i guess i have a faucet with a terminal plumbing disease, lol. They are gonna have to do better than this. Here is in a nutshell my experience with this business today.
Robert Miller...rocks! Father to son passed on integrity:)
Wonderful service and real life saver to find this charming shop which stocks hard to find parts for our kitchen faucet. Janet was so helpful, thanks a lot :)
Powers Plumbing was recommended by several of my neighbors in North Park. We had a plumbing issue and were without water all of the sudden. We called Powers and spoke with Jason who was very helpful right away who told us someone could be at our home in about two hours. We thought that was reasonable and began waiting. They called us back in about 20-30 minutes and said they had someone who could show up right away which was great. It was a dirty job but Robert Miller quickly and efficiently replaced the old rusty pipe in the hot sun and with a big smile on his face. Robert is a fantastic representative of your company and I'd like to say that we had a great experience under the circumstances. I also thought the price was fair. Thank you very much.
I've had good experience with Powers for the last five years, but the last two visits were disappointing. There was miscommunication between the staff I spoke with over the phone and the plumbers (both times), and the plumbers were not able to fix what I feel should have been extremely basic problems.

be aware that when calling Powers Plumbing that they charge for an estimate (which they do not tell you over the phone). They will charge you for travel time and the time they take to calculate what the job will cost. They also do not show up within the window of time that they have given for the appointment.

I've been a very satisfied customer for years. I have two properties and Powers staff always provides efficient, professional service. Today was no exception. Eric arrived early and took care of my plumbing needs efficiently and thoroughly! Plumbing issues always come with a bit of anxiety for us non-handy men, but with Powers to rely on and staff such as Eric it is no sweat! Thank you.

I cannot say enough great things about this local woman-owned business! I have owned a home built in the 1920's for over 25 years and Powers has aways been a great asset to me. Joel just finished a really difficult job (difficulty was due to the convoluted cast iron pipes) and he worked very professionally and efficiently. Eric in the office and Janet (owner) were also very helpful. Great company, great people, great service. Happy 100th anniversary, folks.
This place is awesome! Robert came out to our property and was in and out within 45 minutes. He was very helpful as to what caused the problem and what we could do to prevent it in the future. Even gave us a recommendation of what our office should upgrade to. The price was a standard flat rate and very affordable! Loved their service. Will contact again.

Powers Plumbing saved the day! We called two other drain cleaning companies before them. The first one told us we would have to have a clean out installed and plumbed to the outside of the house, as they couldn't get their machine under our house. The cost for this was only $500.00, then an additional $200.00 to $500.00 for rooting out the pipe.
The second company said it would have to be hydro-jetted at a cost of $400.00 to $750.00.
When Matt arrived from Powers Plumbing, he looked at the situation and said, We will have to move some things, and pitched right in to help. About 45 minutes and $69.00 later, we had a free flowing drain!
Thanks again Powers Plumbing!

I had an unusual experience with Powers Plumbing. My dad actually called them about a problem and authorized them to do work in my home, but he failed to tell me! I came home to find the issue with a drain not resolved and a hole in my wall the plumber had cut and left.
I would have been angry, except when I called Powers they were so very helpful at resolving the issue. In fact, I was blown away by their friendliness and willingness to work with me to fix things. I would have rated them higher except that the drain didn't get fixed by them. I think it might have been different if I had been home, called them and been able to explain. Any which way, if you're looking for a place that's responsive and has exceptional customer service, I don't think you could find anywhere better than here. With so many other people rating their plumbers highly in the technical work category, I think my situation was an unfortunate exception and that this place would be a good bet if you're looking for a safe company and a pleasant overall experience.
We recently had a plumbing emergency when some old pipes burst under our home. Eric and Carlos from Powers spent three days jack hammering our garage and digging out space from under the house to get to the damaged pipes to replace them. Their calm, professional and joking demeanors made it much easier to deal with this unexpected problem. We left them at our house while we were working without concern. After repairing the problem, they cleaned everything up and Eric poured new concrete where it had been dug up. Everything works well and the place where they were working looks like they were never there. We've used them for years for our home and business and can always rely on them to get us up and running when something goes wrong.
I'm not a big Yelper. This was my first and only review of any business on any site. Since this review, a number of you have reached out to me (thank you!) including Janet O. of Powers Plumbing.
However, the issue is still not resolved. The company has not taken responsibility for their broken equipment and poor workmanship, nor did they apologize for their appalling customer service. I do appreciate them finally getting in touch and taking this seriously -- just a shame that it required a BBB complaint and poor Yelp/social media reviews.
Janet O's public response here contained a number of inaccuracies, including complete different interpretations of the same events. I suspect the only way to resolve this matter will be some form of legal action.
Since this is a review site, I'll just summarize my experience with the company here and note the company's response so far. You decide if this is a company you want to work with.
- PP arrived nearly 3 hours late. (not disputed)
- PP's drain cleaning cable system had a broken clutch, preventing it from applying torque, especially in the reverse direction (not disputed)
- PP's equipment got stuck on root intrusions in my sewer line (not disputed), and was unable to free itself due to the broken clutch. (disputed -- PP claims the broken clutch is not responsible)
- PP left the stuck equipment in my *open sewer line* for over 5 days without any contact or explanation (not disputed)
- PP shattered my sewer line to free their stuck equipment (not disputed)
- I ended up hiring another more capable plumbing company (absolute plumbing) to replace the broken sewer line at a cost of nearly $1,000. (not disputed)
- PP did not answer emails (disputed -- PP claimed to never received my emails, that email was not an effective form of communication ... in an email)
- PP did not respond following an office visit -- I spent over 30 minutes talking about the matter with PP employee Bob (who was very knowledgable and understanding) but received no follow-up response.
See my original post for a more detailed (and more snarky) description.
Thanks Chris for a great job fixing our leaking sink!
This place is awesome when you need plumbing or heating items and for repairs when needed. They have a store front also were you can buy parts and anytime I needed valves or random plumbing things for my house I came here super knowledgeable too.
I remember the first time I came here it was to look for a water shut off valve went to Home Depot(Lame) could not find it there or at least the one I was looking for and came here because I remembered about it because I used to drive by this place every week. I came in with the original valve and he just glanced at it grabbed one form the back compared it with mine gave a smirk and told me it looks like one you can get from home depot that will fail on you in a couple years then he handed me the same valve but from a company he said has trusted for a long time no plastic or cheap construction. I was a bit afraid of the cost but it was the same cost basically as the ones I saw a Home Depot I think it was $2 more then the ones there but worth it its been now 6 years and not one leak or anything from the two valves that I replaced. This experience made me a customer for life at this place when ever I need plumbing items.

We contracted LB Powers Plumbing to handle all of the plumbing work for the remodel of our home. We could not have been happier. When you hire LB Powers you don't hire a company you hire a family. From Janet at the desk to Shane as the supervisor and Robert doing the work there is no one in town who can do a better job.
Ours was an extensive remodel which required a lot of scheduled and unscheduled time on site. Robert was always on time when scheduled but more importantly he respond quickly when the unexpected occurred, very common on projects such as ours. He saved countless days of delays due to his rapid response.
There isn't one member of the LB Powers Plumbing Company we have come in contact with we wouldn't have in our home for dinner.
The quality of the work? Unsurpassed! Simply put, you can't find a better plumbing company in San Diego. They are the best, period!
This is by far my most enjoyable plumbing experience in 30 years of living in a variety of older houses and hence utilizing lots of plumbers ( in San Diego for last four years).
First, when i phoned for service, Janet was so pleasant and helpful (including checking on the merits of a kitchen faucet i had already purchased). Her description of the service and charges was upfront and clear and fair.
Second, the service person (Fernando) was here as scheduled at 8:15. Fernando was so pleasant -- as evidenced by my German shep immediately relaxing and stopping her barking -- and neat and efficient. Fernando also explained how water pressure may result in tiny leaks thru faucets and toilets.
Very simple: professional, competent, congenial.
And very fair pricing.
What a sense of relief and comfort to know that we now have a plumbing service we can comfortably call on any time.
Thank you.

The office told me there was a half hour minimum charge for someone to check out our old furnace then billed me for 45 minutes via mail when the guy was here 5 minutes to tell me the furnace was old and he recommended replacing it, which they do not do. I was not told I had to pay travel time. Guthrie and Sons told me the same thing over the phone and is coming to give a free estimate for replacement. Others in the industry also offer a free estimate for replacement. The service technician was a good guy and professional. I have no issue with him. I will not call L.B. Powers again and don't recommend them. (When I called they did lower the bill to half hour but I still find it insulting).

Very honest. Had a water heater fail two months ago. They re-plumbed it and put in a top notch water heater for me. These guys all work as a team and back up their business professionally. Not a fly-by-night single person operation. You want them on your team, period.

Terrific service by very pleasant and competent professionals. All of us cringe when we get plumbing issues, but Janet and her team can put a smile back on your face. We've been using Powers for years for our historic home. Most recently, toilet went out the night before company was to arrive. By noon the next day, Bill had visited and fixed it (plus a second toilet that was iffy).
My experience with L.B. POWERS & SON PLUMBING CO. was extremely disappointing. Their plumber was EXTREMELY DISRESPECTFUL, and took a really long time to fix the problem (I guess they do work on an hourly basis! I literally saw him fiddle around with a few pieces for a whole hour!). He fixed the problem only partially and when I called him back to fix a leak on the same installation, he told me he installed it correctly and the leak was my fault!!! They charged me for the second visit even though their website claims that they take care of any installation problem within the first year.
Save yourself a lot of headache and money. Call someone else, please!
Powers are the best plumbers in town. The owner Janet is hands on and very involved in the local community. I can't say enough about the staff and their positive and friendly can do attitude. Wonderful company and highly recommended.

Powers Plumbing provided dedicated service to fixing one of the showers in my home (it wouldn't turn on). When it looked like the job was going to be more difficult than expected, the plumber, Larry, kept me informed (of course, I was looking over his shoulder, curious as to what he was doing) but he kept at it, working hard not to have to make a more complicated repair! My shower is working now and I'm very pleased with the work that was provided!

I've used Powers Plumbing twice recently and Eric was prompt, professional and courteous and did a fantastic job both times. It is hard to find a great, honest plumbing company and Powers is all of that and more. Highly, highly recommended. Thanks Eric!

Powers Plumbing could not have been more helpful or professional from the customer service over the phone to the service our condo units needed in one of the units. Mike had to remove and replace an iron clad p trap in a laundry drain. He was efficient and kind and provided great service. Thanks for your fast and efficient help. Will be glad to call on your services again which I'm sure we will need.
TERRIBLE, terrible terrible. DO not use this company. They are unclear, do not give quotes, over charge and are all around losers. 3000 dollars later, we still have a problem. They left a huge mess, scratches on the bathroom floor. DO NOT USE POWERS PLUMBING!!!!!!!!!

My water heater went out after about 8 years so I decided to give Powers Plumbing a call, they provided me with same day service and an hour later a technician arrived to asses the problem on day 1, most plumbing companies charge by the hour in labor to asses the problem wether or not they get to the root cause, in this instance it was unknown what the problem was after the plumber was over for an hour before they left. They did research and gave me all my options when I called on day 2 (I got a second opinion from an experienced friend and it all aligned correctly with what they told me) long story short, turned out I needed a new water heater. As I called on day 2 the lady the lady recognized my voice and greeted me by name, over the phone I let them know I was on a very tight budget as I knew this would be a significant unexpected charge because I knew I needed a new water heater, they did their very best to work with the figure I gave to them and were in and out within 3 hours with hot water restored again, no more cold showers! They even waived the cost of the 1st day assessment since they could not find the problem the first day. These guys will be my go to guys for my plumbing needs as they were up front and honest with me, the technicians were also very nice and worked very hard and fast to get the job done.

I love family run and owned businesses. I like supporting local business whenever possible, and as it was our first time using Powers I really wanted to like them. My girlfriend got to a great start in the shop, finding a toilet on sale that was a floor model and setting up a home install. Here is where problems start. The plumber who arrived didn't bring the toilet to install. So, we waited while another employee brought it from the shop. Our plumber, nice enough guy who I'm sure has experience, didn't know how to install this toilet brand, and spent time reading directions. He advised us this was only the second Toto brand he's installed, that Powers normally specializes in other brands. Took over two hours to install, and he had to return the next day since it was bolted too tight and was leaking, a simple fix (I hope, it hasn't started leaking again...I hope it stays that way). I'll give credit that they didn't charge to fix their problem, but I'm sorry it isn't right to charge us while your plumber waits for a toilet to be delivered due to your miscommunication, and we shouldn't pay for your employees to read instructions on installing items you sell. That's just poor business practices. We have tried reasoning with staff to reduce costs, but nothing. So, just pointing it out here. I don't think they are shady or trying to scam people, legitimately I think they probably run a good business and I know they have qualified people, but in business the customer is always right, even when they are wrong (I don't feel I am wrong on this), and maybe they need a refresher on best customer relations practices.

Prompt friendly service. Joe S was on time and solved the problem quickly. We have an older home with an original (1931) floor furnance. It's nice to know there are professionals out there who can and will service this still functioning heater.
I have been going back and forth with this damn unethical company for weeks about how they are trying to overcharge me. They are a complete rip off and should be avoided at all costs! They get a lot of business from the HOA in my building and try to stick homeowners with the bill rather than bill the HOA for time they should be billed for. I'm shocked anyone gave this company more than 1 star!
I had a clogged drain in the master bathroom and called Powers Plumbing to fix the problem. When the plumber (AND his assistant?!) arrived they told me the service charge would be $89/hour and $45/hour, respectively. This seemed reasonable to me and they began the work to fix my drain. After 25 minutes, they were not able to clear the stoppage through the clean out. Next, they tell me they have to drive BACK to the shop to pick up a DIFFERENT machine. When they returned an hour later, they had a larger gadget (snake? I dunno) and ran it through the main line and then thru the roof vent. This fixed the problem and my drains were working again. The TOTAL time spent at my house was 1 hour tops!!! Well, a new problem arose...the BILLING!!! They charged me $335 dollars (I was thinking more like $134.00). Apparently, I was also charged for the time the plumbers drove BACK to the shop for another tool. SERIOUSLY?!! Does Powers Plumbing really expect their customers to fully know what the precise PROBLEM is with the pipes, what TOOLS plumbers should have to DO the job, and to have the tools in their van BEFORE they arrive at the customer's house? Give me a break! After complaining to Powers Plumbing, they were nice enough to knock off a half hour of their service time.
I rarely write reviews - but I think it's important to do so when a business goes the extra mile. I was having a plumbing emergency on a Friday night. My husband was out of town and I had water dripping from my upstairs bathroom through the ceiling to the family room down below. I literally called 8 plumbing companies and NO one could come out or help guide me with directions on how to turn the water to my house off! Then, I called Powers and spoke to Janet. She was AWESOME! Before I booked the appointment she asked me if I turned the water off, when I told her no and I needed help she guided me on how to do it. (I feel so dumb that it was so easy..but had clue!) Then she guided me into how to prevent my ceiling form collapsing from the weight of the water. Finally, she booked one of her guys to come out and apologized profusely that he couldn't get there until 8pm because he was on other calls. Once the plumber arrived he was so nice and identified the issue right away. Fixed! A week later I get a call from Janet asking how I was doing and how her plumber did. She then apologized and said when she was doing her books she realized she overcharged me and that a check was in the mail but with no explanation attached to it so she wanted to call and let me know. The check came today for $25.00. I would have never known I was overcharged - I assumed it was tax tacked on. I am a big believer in integrity and honesty and Powers Plumbing has it. I will always use them from this point on and always refer them to my friends and family.

I am a new homeowner and was looking to find a plumber for possible plumbing emergencies and maintenance/upgrades. I decided to try powers plumbing for a small job of replacing the plate on my shower and replacing the off/on nob and spout. The first thing that I was already forewarned about was that they begin charging when they leave their office in mission hills. Just hope there is not traffic or an accident. I live in north park and I was hoping this wouldn't bother me but it kinda did while I was waiting for them to arrive. Second I knew that they charged by the minute for services. Obviously I was hoping that the plumber I had would finish the job quickly but I wondered with variation in skill level how that might affect pricing. They charge by the minute and the plumber actually has an ipad with a big clock ticking away your dollar bills. As far as skill and professionalism.. the plumber completed the job in what I hoped was a timely manner but I don't know how long it should take. Who knows if a 30 minute job actually took 60 minutes. It took me about a month to receive my bill in the mail. You would think with the fancy ipad you would be able to pay on the spot? Powers Plumbing can complete a job and have a long standing reputation but I found a different plumber with business practices I prefer. He quotes a job and that is how much it will cost, updating you if the price will change as he works.. no giant clock sitting next to him ticking away my money. I much prefer this style of business. No hard feelings I just won't use them again.
Larry rocks! Two reputable plumbing companies came out to look at our very old kitchen faucet in our North Park home and said it cannot be repaired and needed to be replaced. The problem is, the tiled counter top and sink would have to be removed in order to get the new faucet installed!!! I drove over to Powers Plumbing and Janet was very helpful. Janet had Larry who is very knowledgeable about those old faucets in these older homes. Larry came brought his best game and won!! It took Larry a few hours to get it going and was determined to make it work even though we had that horrible heat wave he stayed and persevered!! Larry was on time, very professional and determined to help because of the expense of the replacement ! Thanks Larry and Janet:)
Great personal service. They are awesome. This is the second(old home issues)time we've had them. I want to consider them an old home experts. I love the fact they are 5 mins from us...but the Plumbers are awesome!!!!
Cannot thank Powers Plumbing enough. We recently had a gas leak and Powers Plumbing was professional from start to finish. We got 3 quotes and it wasn't the cheapest but you get what you pay for! The service was fantastic and trusted both workers in and around our place. The owners followed through with updates which was so appreciated. Using them again!
Good work and nice guys, but one caveat: they are always late. Every time. They've had to come by my place 3-4 times to work on things, and when they say they'll be there between 9 and 10, they really mean 10:15. When they say 8am, they actually show up at 8:45. Otherwise, solid plumbers.

Fixed my 1920's Craftsman floor furnace. After making the appointment, I was impressed that (a) they called ahead to tell me they were on their way, (b) he arrived on time, (c) the service guy was very knowledgeable about our make and model of floor furnace, (d) he fixed the problem relatively quickly, (e) he was thorough in testing the fixed furnace for carbon monoxide. I also got a discount for mentioning Yelp. I will be using these guys again and recommend them to everyone.
Showed up right on time and was best bid for placing in a thermostatic valve in my shower. It was service as promised and this is the second time that I needed a plumber so you should consider them. By the way Bill Howe Plumbing bid $1450 for the same job that they did for $345!
Powers has saved us more times than I can count. When you have a plumbing issue you want it fixed asap and right the first time! They work fast , but carefully and that is most important to us with our historic home. Their extensive community work also speaks volumes to the kind of company they are. 5 stars to Powers Plumbing.

My house has really bad plumbing and I have to rely on a good plumber every couple of months. Thus, I have tried many. But, I am now staying with this particular Guy.
I like to support local businesses so I scheduled Powers to install a dishwasher and garbage disposal. They said it would take a couple of hours. The plumber showed up 15 minutes late and looked at the job confused. He was told he was to do something completely different then what I ordered. He said that he was told that it was a stainless steel sink and he didn't have the right drill. He left and another plumber showed up fifteen minutes later. The second plumber spent fifteen minutes explaining to me that they might chip the sink when they drill it and another 30 minutes explaining to the other plumber how to install the dishwasher and disposal. The original plumber left two more times to go back to the store. Granted it was close, but I am still suppossed to pay the guy $89 an hour while they get their crap together. He came back and spend 90 minutes with some kind of saw. I finally decided to come see what he was doing. He said he was having trouble cutting out the second drain. I didn't ask to have the second drain cut out. He said that's alright I won't charge you, she always gives us the wrong directions. He left again to get my free second drain. So 5.5 hours later he leaves with my sink disgustingly dirty. I am pretty sure I could have done the job myself in 5.5 hours. I went back to ask them to clean the sink and it was liked I asked them to give up their first born child. The second plumber came over and was extermely rude but did clean the sink.
Our shower faucet developed a steady drip that needed immediate attention. I am a religious do-it-yourselfer and had every intention of completing this project myself. After finding no obvious way to remove the valve and discovering in my trip to Home Depot that there are dozens of potential replacement-part options, many that are not even stocked in the store, I decided to make an exception and call in L.B. Powers. They had an appointment available on very short notice and arrived promptly on schedule. Robert was very professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. I quickly discovered that I made a wise decision in calling in a professional. After 25-years, the valve insert had calcified inside the housing and required a special extraction tool to remove. While on site, I had them replace an identical valve in our guest shower. The entire job took 30-minutes + parts. I am certain I would have created a huge problem doing this work myself and saved tons of time and $$ by recognizing my limits. My entire experience with LB. Powers was exceptional.
