Whether it's buying a new vacuum or getting appliances and lamps repaired, the only shop I'll go to is Phil's Electric.

They're honest and their pricing is fair and you'll get your item back in quick order.

This errand I needed a new electrical cord for my old DeLonghi portable radiator. Like many appliances, ones that were made 25 years ago are better quality than the new models.

When I damaged the cord, I dumbly replaced it with a new DeLonghi model that only threw heat from the top of the unit and barely made a temperature difference in my living room.

My trusty old radiator now has a new heat-resistant cord that's longer than the original one (hooray, no extension cords, that's how I damaged the original plug), a missing bolt replaced and polished shiny clean for $55.

I love Phil's Electric, in business for over 80 years for a reason.

I call the store on 5/6/23.
Just asking the question about the vacuum repair. The guy seems very impatient and hang up on me. If your ad says repair and you should be prepared to do it not just want to sell the products

Tremendously happy to discover this last remaining vacuum store in San Francisco. I was graciously helped by knowledgable people and was able try out different vacuums before buying the perfect one for my particular needs and home. With their expertise I bought the best vacuum (Sebo) I've ever had in 30 years!  This store is a true SF gem so everyone should get their vacuums there.  Get your electric appliances repaired there.  Do everything you can to keep this place in business because all the others have gone out of business.

Awesome job by Phil's Electric!
I had a small lamp that had a faulty switch for some time. Oops by me in using a light bulb that exceeded the wattage of the lamp. That short-circuit and puff of smoke was a sign to get it fixed!
Phil's Electric to the rescue.
I dropped it off; they gave me a rough estimate. When I called back on the day they said it would be done, it was ready for pick up!
What a relief to get my lamp back. I'd been dwelling in the dark for sometime :(
Now I have my two Phil's fixed lamps for use.
Hurrah for Phil's! A great family owned and operated small business. They don't make repair shops like these any more. Established in 1941!!!

I found an old pump type Zojirushi airpot in my packed away in storage and in trying to use it, their was no pressure to dispense the water.

I called Phil's to ask if this was worth repairing or something for the trash. Right away they said it probably needed a new lid, particularly if the dispenser was more than 5 years old and said the replacement part was about $30. They had the part in stock and and replacing it would make it as good as new. I decided it was worth it since a new airpot would cost much more.

I went to the shop and replaced it right away and I was in and out in about 10 minutes.  I walked out with a working Zojirushi airpot.

Still the only place in Northern California that will service Zojirushi appliances.  Great place, knowledgeable staff, wonderful service. Locally owned small business.

They observe the COVID-19 protocols--they wear masks and anyone entering the store is required to wear a mask and they limit the number of people in their shop. They also provide hand sanitizer at the front counter.

Having an experienced technician to ask questions is a treat. This is what you will get when you bring in your vacuum or razor to these folks. If the counter person is not familiar, he does the craziest thing! He goes and asks! And then comes back to tell you what the expert said.
Yes, I did end up purchasing a new vacuum but felt it was valid.

This place is a gem. I love it for the small shop that it is. But also, it's a great community resource. I called today to ask for an electrician referral. The man who was called to the phone asked me if it's for a large or small job. I said that I didn't know because the lights in our house had been flickering for a few days. He urged me to call PG&E right away because this could be serious. His guess was that, of the three lines running to the house, the white (neutral) one might be failing, causing the others to run hot.

He nailed it! When PG&E arrived very soon after our call, they said that was the exact problem. They fixed it. Problem solved.

Thanks Phil's!!!

My 7 year old Zojirushi rice cooker had a couple of problems: one was self-created as I pulled the retractable cord too far, the other was the dumb internal lithium battery. The battery is literally soldered to housing on the CPU. So, while it looks easy on youtube, I looked at the official Zojirushi website and found we luckily have the West Coast authorized repair center at Phil's! I called and they located the parts and said they could fix it in while you wait (an hour or so). So went to their lombard street's store @ the Presidio and realized I've been there before for some repairs on lighting fixtures and talked to Son and he said an hour to an hour and a half. Perfect for some playtime on Crissy Field and Sports Basement. Half an hour later, Son calls me, DONE!

While, admitted, I will go through great lengths to repair things rather than contribute to our growing waste problem, this was so soul satisfying. I hope you go to Phil's and get all your appliances repaired by these guys. Looks like they do Miele vacuums and electric razors and lamps too.

Phil's has been an SF treasure for over 70-years; they remind us what it means to buy local and support local businesses!
Phil's specializes in electric equipment and for me, they are our trusted resource for Miele vacuum repairs and vacuum supplies.
They have a convenient green zone in front to make your shopping easy and convenient.
I also get a calming sense when I walk-in the door; it's like stepping-back in time .  The family that owns and operates Phil's could not be more friendly and helpful and knowledgeable.
Do yourself a favor: shop Phil's and support this local business!

I took my vacuum in for only a new belt and Phill's acting like a dirty car mechanic, stole the expensive parts of my vacuum and replaced them  with cheap plastic parts.  When I looked up how much the brush head they removed and kept was, a used one is 98 dollars!!
I can't warn you enough. I never even gave permission for such removal. They were only supposed to replace the belt. When confronting them with what happened they changed the story 3 times from dog hair( I have no dog), to a sword, to it was like that before.
It is unbelievable that a little shop could be so hugely crooked.  I would really stay away from this place.

They are awesome!!! The biggest reason is because the freakin repair stuff. WTH?! It's so unusual now and amazing. I love the idea of repairing and extending the life of a quality product,

unfortunately that's not my story. I had issues with my Miele vacuum. Parts were pretty high for the repair needed and it would have cost 50% of just buying a new one. However, Phil's labor charges were super reasonable and the tech was knowledgeable and very courteous. I will definitely be back.

Bonus star for the Miele vacuum lamp in the window and the cool history of the shop.

I came here with an older model vacuum and the guy wasn't helpful. He quoted me an outrageous amount for something that wasn't broken a button that you push to retract the power cable. In the end he tried calling for parts from somewhere but I looked on the Internet today and found the parts on Sears Replacement Parts website. Waste of my time I suggest you look at the model information on your appliance and look up the manufacturer on the Internet. Otherwise buy something new all together.

This place is awesome!!! A part in my dyson broke and they were able to find me a replacement for a great price!!! They didn't have it when I visited the first time, but called a day later telling me they found the part! Instead of replacing the piece at dyson for $130 I found one for $40. Check this place out before tossing your vacuum or buying brand new.

Competent, friendly, knowledgeable, fair pricing.  What more would you want in a local establishment.  I purchased my Meile at Phils and have had a couple of stoppages (my fault for not paying attention  what I was vacuuming  up.  They fixed things in a jiffy with no charge, and once when the item was is large it caused damage, they repaired it and cleaned it up rapidly and charged a very fair price.  Definitely one of my favorite places of business in this era of big box stores and Amazon.

So had the battery on my old Zojirushi rice cooker finally died. Checking the Zojirushi website, they listed Phil's Electric as a service center.  I then called Phil's and spoke to Son who is a technician there.  After I explained that I lived 2 hours from San Francisco, Son advised that I could ship it to him or bring it in on Sat and he could replace the battery in an hour or so. Decided to bring it in which really worked out as my GF and I spent the morning sightseeing on Pier 39 and while doing so received a call saying the rice cooker was ready.  We then picked it up and it was good as new - The service at Phil's couldn't have been better!

The $50 charge to look at my vacuum was applied to the actual repairs needed.
(2 filters, a belt, new bags and all cleaned up.)
I'm glad that I saved my old Eureka vacuum cleaner with AA bags.
I've had multiple issues with the new style (bagless) vacuums --the filter is constantly clogged and the machine won't work.
Anyway, I ditched the new one and went back to my trusty Eureka.
Nice people here.  Glad for the professional service.
Very quick turn-around too!

So helpful and knowledgeable.  Since they sell vacuums I was concerned they'd recommend a new vacuum over repair.  But they were honest that I had a good model and it would be better to repair.  I appreciate that honesty and integrity.  My vacuum is working great again.  Thank goodness! It gets a lot of use with a long haired dog.

I'd absolutely recommend Phil's electric for you vacuum repair needs. I brought in my Dyson V8 after ordering a part from Dyson and trying to fix it myself. However, I couldn't get the stick and brush head to work, so I needed more assistance and was outside of the warranty period. Phil's electric took car of me, replacing multiple parts, and for $140 got the entire unit working perfectly in about 3 days.

I love this place! My Ricaar vacuum broke after twelve wonderful years and I needed a new one fast. I went to Phil's Electric and Vicky was wonderful in helping me find a great quality vacuum that fit my needs. She was friendly and knowledgable and my new Simplicity vacuum works great.

Less than two months later, my husband accidentally vacuumed over some water (don't ever do that!). I called Phil's Electric to help me and they told me to bring it in. They ordered a new motor and fixed my brand new vacuum all within two weeks. Best of all, they were super gracious and kind and did not give me trouble for my husband's accident. Quick, easy, professional, I would recommend this family owned business to anyone! Thank you!

In these days of COVID, it's becoming more and more difficult to get the products and service that we used to rely on. But at Phil's electric, nothing has changed. There isn't really anything electric that Phil's can't repair. I've brought in lamps, vacuums, blenders, clippers and they have all been repaired brilliantly. I was also in the market for a vacuum and had my sights set on a Miele, but Phil's recommended a Sebo. Sceptical, I did my research to find the ratings and durability reviews were the same or better than Miele (which they also sell). I'm a very happy customer and think this is a very valuable, unique business in SF.

Five stars for Phil's.  My 7+ year old Dyson needed a new hose, new filters, and a scrubbing (it gets a workout with two big dogs in the house).  Repair was fast, under the estimate, and my Dyson works SOOOO much better than before.  It's like it's brand new again.  I also discovered that Phil's does so much more than vacuums.  They repair a lot of small electronics.  We will definitely be back.

Phil's is great -- a testament to the importance of small neighborhood businesses.  We bought a new Miele vacuum cleaner and a Royal carpet shampooer several months ago.  The folks at Phil's offered great advice about which models were best for our needs but the best part about our Phil's experience was when we had trouble with the vacuum cleaner wand.  Phil's made it so easy to get a replacement, no questions, no problem, just here's your new wand.  I am sure if I had bought the vacuum online there would have been many steps, emails and calls to get a replacement.  Support local businesses!  They are a treasure in our communities.

A good old-fashioned, serviced-oriented local business. We bought a Sebo upright vacuum here several years ago, and just brought it back for preventative maintenance. Both transactions were pleasant and efficient, and most recently the repairman (owner?) went out of his way to get us warranty-covered replacement of what would otherwise have been an expensive part.

I brought my Miele vacuum cleaner to Phil's and told the woman behind the counter that it shuts off after a minute or so and the engine got really hot. She plugged it in and it turned on, so she took the hose to the back to test whether it was plugged. Within 5 minutes, they found out that something was plugging the hose which caused the engine to shut down to avoid overheating. What is most amazing is that they did not charge one penny for the work. I am so thankful to have a neighborhood place like this with great service.

I can't believe I haven't written a review.  We found this neat old chandelier that needed to be rewired.  Someone pointed us in Phil's direction. A vacuum cleaner place???!  But they were so much cheaper than other options and had good reviews.  So took this huge chandelier on Muni 22 and walked over.  Beautiful work at a nice price, newly installed in guest bedroom.  After a while we noticed this funny fish smell in back bedroom, two floors up from lidded trash cans.  Now San Francisco with its recycling is not Columbus.  The garbage cans are not stinky. Was a neighbor cooking fish and smell coming through window gaps?  We are part timers here, couldn't figure it out so bought lots of air freshener because the smell would come and go. By chance, three years later, we lent out our place to our neighbor's family (she just had a baby). They noticed the smell, did research and found out the fishy smell comes from something melting down inside when even a low watt bulb is too much.  We called Phil's and three years later, they contacted the socket manufacturer and replaced the sockets for minimal cost to us.  They also had beautiful and appropriate bulbs for less than Amazon,Lowe's and Coles.  Great customer service.  And now no fish smell unless hubby makes his famous shrimp and snow peas.  Very competent, reasonably priced, repair place for all vintages. Highly recommended.

Let me start by saying I love small, owner-operated, business.  I want to love Phil's, and I think I could have easily loved Phil's but there was a communication glitch that is knocking a couple of stars off of this review.

My vacuum cleaner broke.  I called to make sure they do vacuum repairs.  They do.  That was good.  Then the woman tied to help me diagnose and fix my vacuum over the phone.  That was good too.  Realizing it was a little beyond a telephone diagnosis she told me to bring it in.  Since it's old I said it probably wasn't worth much investment and I asked if they do free estimates so that I would know what I'd be in for.  She said yes.  Again, that's great!  She also told me that repairs generally run about $35.  Good to know.

But here's the rub, after I dropped it off and asked at least two more times if they do free estimates AND I even made a big deal about how nice that was... they called me back two days later to come and pick up my vacuum which she said was all better now that it had spent a little time at the spa.   That was cute and I was half expecting that it was such an easy fix that it would be free since they'd never called to give an estimate or to ask if they could proceed with the work.  And when I showed up she told me my total was $48.48 for some kind of cleaning, a replaced part and two new filters if I remember correctly.  Huh!?!?  I didn't approve any of that work and always like price shop for things like filters.

I was totally nice about it, I paid without questioning.  Then I said that, since we'd talked about it and she told me they give free estimates, I would have appreciated if they'd called to let me know the expected cost and to ask if they could do the repair first.  She was nice in return and simply said they can try to do better on that.  That's great for the next guy but that doesn't help me.

They seem like nice people.  They totally fixed my vacuum cleaner.  I want small businesses like them to be successful.  I just wish they would have checked in with me like we'd discussed.  Yelp apparently calls 3 stars A-OK.  That seems like a fair assessment given all that transpired.

I have an original Cuisinart Food Processor, and it is so far superior to the new ones. So when it stopped working, and could not get replacement parts from Cuisinart, I bought a new one, sadly.  Then I remembered Phil's from when I lived in the Marina...I called and they said they would be happy to have a look at it.  Sun, who has been working there for 35 or so years, knew what to do right away, made a new part for it, and for l/3 the price of a new machine, I have my old one working like a dream.  Sun has a wonderful, sunny personality and enjoys the challenge of fixing stuff...what a find.  Everyone should support this business.  Fixing things if far better for us that buying new and tossing old.

Do you suffer from having an old vacuum? I do too! but it keeps running and running and running.
So I go to Phil's because they have knowledge of and parts for my relic. They had a hepa filter for my Excalibur (that's really the model name) and bags for it!! When excalibur finally joins the other knights of the round table, they have a ton of shiny new vacuums that I can't wait to try.
Also if you're missing a blender lid, blade, etc they have it there!!!

This is my 100th review. Oh, the pressure of deciding which business to review. Should it be regarding a business that says something about me (Bob's Discount Skydiving, for instance)? Or, possibly, should I review Yelp as so many people seem to like to do with their 100th?

Nope. Not me. I'm opting for good old Phil's Electric. Why? Three reasons:

1.) They Fix Vacuums - quickly, inexpensively and professionally
2.) The woman there gave me the MAD hookup of getting me little Christmas lights to string on my stroller, so, they're INCREDIBLY NICE and CONSIDERATE!
3.) They play the Chipmunks at Christmas time

Shortly before Christmas this year, my vacuum cleaner went kaput. We live in a small apartment with two large, hairy, extremely shedding dogs. A week without a good vacuuming is too long, plus, at the time, we had a 6 week old baby. You kind of want to Purell the world when they're that young, so, not having a functioning vacuum cleaner really sucked.

Mr. B thought we should just get a new vacuum cleaner, but I thought it might be more thrifty, and better for the environment, to attempt to fix it. Thus, we dropped it off at Phil's.

When I deposited the vacuum, I was randomly inspired by all the electrical stuff on display (hair trimmers, lamps, etc) and asked if they had any idea how I might get a set of Christmas lights that could run on a battery so I could string it around our new baby's stroller. This would be both festive and safe, since it was getting dark very early and I wanted to be sure people could see us as we crossed the street.

The woman working there (who, I'm guessing might be an owner) said I could buy that sort of thing at Walgreens. She gave a really detailed description of the lights and sent me on my way. I immediately headed to Walgreens, but, bummer, they'd already sold out of them at the two locations I went to! I gave up on my quest, figuring that maybe next year I'd get some, or that possibly I'd find them on the Internet.

Four days later, Mr. B and I stopped by Phil's to pick up our vacuum. I waited in the car with Tiny (the baby), while Mr. B went in. We were both a little grumpy that day, what with lack of sleep and pre-holiday blues. So, a few minutes later, out comes Mr. B, all smiles, with the vacuum.

He got in the car singing:
Christmas, Christmas time is near,
Time for toys and time for cheer.

And then handed me a small brown bag. I opened the bag and inside, lo and behold, was this set of portable, battery operated Christmas lights.

CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT!?!???!?? This SUPER NICE lady had actually stopped by some magic Walgreens that still had the lights in stock and bought it for me. She insisted to Mr B that it was a gift and wouldn't take money for it. HOW COOL IS THAT?!????!???!???

So, that's why, Phil's, you're my 100th, most specialist, most important and happiest review.

Thanks for helping us to keep a clean house AND for bringing us some holiday cheer with it!

Fast, skilled service, fair prices.  The world should be more like Phi's.

You break your vacuum cleaner, they fix it.  It's that simple. They'll ask for two days, but if you drop it off in the morning there's a good chance they can have it ready that evening.

Look behind the counter and you'll see spare parts. Lots and lots of them, neatly organized. This is your first clue that Phil's has the tools, experience and parts on hand to deal with just about any reasonable problem.

Minimum labor rate is $25, and I'm guessing that 85% of the time that's what  you'll be charged. Unlike most repair services, parts aren't marked up drastically. In my last visit I paid $5 for a new belt and a bag and the $25 labor charge for a whopping $30 total.

15 minute parking is available right in front of the shop.

They repair just about every brand and are a factory authorized service center for Eureka, Oreck, Sunbeam and Sunkist.

Replace or repair? I don't know, but I have great faith in the testing labs of Consumer Reports. They say for a $200-$600 vacuum cleaner
- Always repair if you have problems in the first four years
- Maybe repair in years five through seven
- After seven years always replace

I just love Phil's. After several trips to admire the greatness that is a Miele vacuum cleaner, each time getting advice and insights from the lady who manages the shop, I finally took the plunge and purchased one last week.

They've also helped me out with rehabilitating and repairing other vacuum cleaners, sometimes not charging for service, and I mean really, who does that? A small business with a loyal following, that's who.

An interesting assortment of specialty cleaning and home maintenance supplies is on sale as well as other small home appliances. The staff is very familiar with every product they carry.

5 shiny red stars for Phil's!!!

My gut instinct when something breaks is always let me go buy a new one.  In this case, I wasn't prepared to spend $300 on a new vacuum cleaner, so I turned to Yelp to find a repair shop.  Lo and behold, this repair shop was right in my 'hood!

This place reminds me of the Mom and Pop type of repair shop that I would find in my small-ish hometown (not in Big City San Francisco).  I brought my poor, non-sucking (meaning that it had no suction) Hoover bagless vacuum cleaner in on a Friday around noon.  The lady at the counter was friendly and reassuring when I explained my plight (I thought maybe I had vacuumed up part of an area rug) and told me that they would take a look at it and get back to me by the next day or Monday.  I was cleaning my apartment the next afternoon and received a call just in the nick of time (right when I was at the vacuuming stage)!

I went to pick it up and my baby worked like new!  It was kind of pricey ($65), but not as pricey as buying a new vacuum would have been.  The majority of the price covered the new filter and the remainder was to fix something that had accumulated inside (this part was kind of vague).

All in all, very friendly and efficient service.  They also have a green zone (20 minute parking) big enough for a couple of cars, so you don't have to worry about finding parking and then lugging your dust jockey.

Oh, they also sell new vacuums and they fix lamps!

I had done a lot of research and decided to go with a Miele, but I wanted to be sure I was getting the most suitable model for my needs.  This store is amazing and I'm glad I went to Phil's and did not order online.  They have everything you need in a small shop, and everyone in there is extremely knowledgeable.  After discussing the options, I felt very confident with my purchase.  I've gone to Phil's in the past for repairs to my dyson and found them to be really helpful.  I highly recommend this shop for repairs or a new vacuum.

Found these guys on Yelp and though they were far away, it sounded like the best bet. Since the broken vacuum was like, 10 years old, I called before bringing the thing there. Gave the dude the brand, make and # and shit, and he was like oh, yah. we can fix that! no problem!

Annoyingly, they are only open during work hours, so the only way this was gonna happen is:

a) waste a saturday afternoon lugging a vacuum around on MUNI
b) spend $20 on a cab there on a saturday afternoon

I picked (b). They told me it'd be ready in a few days. Some time after the specified day, my old man called to make sure it was ready and they told him they don't make parts for that vacuum anymore and that it's worthless--can't even sell it for parts.

Thanks alot. Perhaps you could have told me that when I called specifically to determine whether it was fixable and before I wasted a 20 spot.

Boo hiss.

I like repairing things.  Most things, my Honda Civic, LG 37 inch LCD television, the microwave oven and even my iBook are beyond my limited skill and patience levels, however, a vacuum cleaner seemed like something I could handle.  I put my Eureka Whirlwind up on the table, unscrewed the cover, and immediately diagnosed the problem.  The large rubber-band  was bad, AND, the rotating brush-thingy was broken.

I went to the internet to search large rubber band for vacuum cleaner, and rotating brush thingey but surprisingly, came up empty.  I did see a little entry for vacuum cleaner repairs and clicked on that.  Up came the entry for Phil's Electric.

I was nonplussed.  Vaccum cleaner repairs?  I thought vacuum cleaner repair went the way of typewriter repair, doctor's house calls, and the balanced federal budget.  As it happened, I was in SF on Saturday and I thought, let's just see if they have what i need.

Phil's is a throwback to the days when appliances were made to last and an investment in replacement parts was common.   Phil's is a reminder that sometimes, a few minutes effort and a few dollars for parts can mean an extra $200 available for a weekend out somewhere.  AND, Phil's reminds us that, while the erector set, tinker toys and Heathkit electronics may be a part of our distant adolescence, the capacity to take something apart, diagnose its ills, and find a proper and workable cure still resides deeply within us, needing only a proper nudge and a convenient and knoweldgeable source of replacement parts.

Ah - but could they help me in my moment of need?

Simply put, they could, and they did.  In a matter of moments, the woman behind the counter brought out a drive belt, as they are apparently called, and a roller brush  which I now accept as a better, more accurate name for my broken rotating brush thingey.

Total cost to repair my ailing Eureka, $28.00.
Time spent replacing said parts:  4 mins
Experience of fixing my vacuum cleaner myself - Priceless. (well, $28.00 actually)

I found Phil's electric googling for lamp repair.  I emailed and asked if they could re-wire my Australian lamp, and they actually emailed me back!  It is pretty amazing for an old school business  to email a customer back.  Props to Phil's.   I took my lamp in there and they gave me a ticket, three days later I picked up my beautifully re-wired lamp.  Thanks Phil's!

If you're looking for a vacuum I'd recommend Phil's as well - their salespeople are knowledgeable and they have a good range though they seem to be fairly Miele-centric.

I love Phil's! I finally gave in and decided to buy a Miele, after going there for years for replacement bags for a cheap vacuum. I'd done research online and thought I knew what I wanted. The woman there asked questions about our place - do we have wall-to-wall, how many rugs, are they valuable, is it mostly hardwood floors?, etc - and then steered me to a lower-priced model. Turns out the high-powered model I wanted would have damaged our expensive handmade wool rugs.

Who suggests a less expensive sale? A local business owner with old-fashioned values who actually cares about customer satisfaction, that's who.

To top it off, when I went in recently for more bags, I dropped off the old vacuum for them to repair and then give away or dispose of (a free service they offer), and she gave me a $20 box of Miele HEPA bags for free!

I can't say enough good things about this place. They really stand out in terms of customer service. I don't know how they survive but I hope they do, for decades more to come.

I bought a Miele vaccum here a few weeks ago and it worked wonders on my hardwood floors, rugs and upholstered furniture (we have 3 cats)! Phil's is a family owned and operated business of the old school. Awesome! When I bought the vacuum, the very friendly and attentive woman who helped me didn't rush me at all, and I ended up feeling really confident that I had chosen the correct mode for my needs. Then her son carried the vacuum out to my car. Try to get that level of service at a big box store! Or anywhere, for that matter.

However, the second time my house cleaner went to use the vacuum (I haven't gotten around to it yet, lazy me), she told me it didn't have suction. Yikes, I just paid a small fortune for this vacuum! So I called Phil's and the woman who originally sold me the vacuum didn't hesitate when she said to bring it in.

She disconnected the hose, and said, I think we have something here and showed me the inside of the hose. And there it was -- the tail end of a small bright green mouse toy! She extracted it and showed me a trick to determine whether the hose is clear: drop a penny through it! Duh!

You might be able to purchase a Miele slightly less expensively on the internet, but Phil's customer service is worth way more than that small
savings. I realize that mouse-toy-extraction isn't major surgery, but it sure meant a lot to me to have this resolved to quickly and painlessly!

I much prefer to shop at and support locally-owned, independent businesses. I think it is really important for our local economy and quality of life, and I am grateful that Phil's has been going strong since 1949!

9/16 UPDATE: Bought a new, replacement Miele vacuum at Phil's!! It was time. We have thoroughly abused our Red Star but it just keeps going, and we decided to put it to rest. Phil's has been my go to shop since I discovered them. Even as a small shop they do almost ALL (!!) of S.F.'s Miele service. That alone is worth noting. I will continue to support this exceptional family owned business. Thank you, Vicky and Tom.

We drove to SF specifically to have our Miele vacuum repaired, after seeing their reviews on Yelp. There are a few places in Santa Rosa that do the work, but I was consistently told that it might take 2 weeks just to get in a new motor (the old one was history after 10 years).

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, a hairy pooch STILL shedding (I mean it's winter already!) and seeing the reviews on Yelp, we opted to call and see if this shop had the motor in stock. They did, so off we went.

We dropped off the vacuum and went to have lunch, waiting to hear when we would have to drive back down to pick it up. We were just tucking into some food at Mel's drive-in when I got the call to come pick the vacuum up, the motor had been replaced!

I was pleased and surprised, and after lunch we picked up our vacuum, extra bags and a filter, and drove home feeling very good about finding this place.

Support these guys. They are the real deal, almost from a bygone era, doing all the right things, and doing them well.

Living in the Presidio I walk pass this place all the time on my way to the Final Final or to the Marina.  I often look at this store with all the random Vacuums in the window and wonder who goes to stores like this???

My roommate broke my 3rd vacuum in the last 2 years, and she recommended that I bring it in to that store near Final Final.  Not knowing the name, I finally went in with my broke down vacuum that I purchased 3 months before.  They took it, asked my name and number and bam, that was it.

One week later(today) they called to say that it's all taken care of.
Which was so shocking, bc the entire frame underneath melted completely.  They fixed it, and called Eureka to have the warranty to cover it.  I did nothing, they did everything!!!!

I'm bringing every broke down piece of electronics here now!!

Oh and btw....Phil's Electric Company is the name! now I know

Service- Classy!!! Great customer service!! Mom and pop style!!

Phil's is the best place to purchase a Miele Vacuum.  The sales people actually ask you about your house and how you will use it and don't resort to pushing the most expensive model.  Their prices are standard for Miele but they threw in a few extras to make it a deal and the service makes it worth any premium you might find over the web.

The dust/fur bunnies have vanished and are being held captive inside my new Miele.

My Miele vacuum hose snapped off the canister and needed repair.  I phoned Phil's based on enthusiastic Yelp reviews, and was impressed at the shop's immediate recognition of my problem, familiarity with my specific Miele model and ability to give me some expectations regarding the repair.
Within 30 minutes of arriving, my vacuum was fixed.  All for the cost of parts only - they did not even charge me for labor.
I was so happy, I restocked my vacuum bag supply and got a new HEPA filter to boot.  This is a wonderful Mom & Pop-type store that feels great to support, and seems able to fix just about anything (there was a constant stream of customers coming and going with their lamps, vacuums, etc).  What a refreshing find in this disposable world!

The place has an excellent attitude as far as being concerned with younger folks that 'break stuff and just get something new at Target' and for that I appreciate it. They knew the exact repairs needed for an antique lamp we had, and told us exactly what we needed to know before repairing it. Which we would actually pay for an antique repair than buy some cheap disposable fix at Ikea. Our antique is back in its full bloom.

Great service for a place that is as old school and nice as the ItalianAmericans in the Marina.

I was referred here by Oreck company to repair my Oreck product.  They provided warranty information to me so I assume I could give to local business conducting repair.

Before taking the time to go over there, lugging this stuff with me, I called to see if I would be charged anything, or if the repair would be covered, time to repair, etc.  I think it is a fair enough phone call.  The guy who answered the phone did not think so.

He would not answer any of my questions.  Every response was, 'just bring it in'.  And 'just bring it in' with an attitude.  It was like I was annoying him.  He could have answered those simple questions for me.

If it is that annoying to take phone calls from customers, then don't answer it.  Or if customers are that annoying, just close down the business; or 'bring it in'.

I assume the service and quality of work will be like his attitude: lousy.

Who knew there was a vacuum of my dreams and it was waiting for me at Phil's Electric?  I have had many vacuums over the years, including 2 Dysons, and found them all infuriating for various reasons.  Having just moved to this neighborhood into a house with carpet and hardwood and stairs and pets, I explained my requirements and the lady knew exactly which model I needed.  I am now the proud and happy owner of my first Miele and it performed its inaugural tour of duty with flying colors.  I wish I'd bought one years ago.

Love this place! Super honest. They saved me tons of money. I had a Miele vacuum I had bought in the U.S. Moved to Berlin, Germany and tried to use it with a transformer. It blew after a few times. I assumed the motor had died. Moved back to the U.S. a few years later and brought the vacuum to Phils, assuming it would need an expensive new motor. Nope! Just needed a new electric cord. Yay! 10 year old vacuum still runs fine.

Great place for vacuum cleaner repair. I am not as impressed with their small appliance repair services - some people seem to think they work magic but every time I bring something in they simply hand it back to me and say No repair - just like that, not exactly a great customer service experience even if it were true every time which I find a little hard to believe.  But they have great supplies for the vaccuums and once when ours broke again within a day after bringing it home, they promptly repaired it again for free and refunded the first fee - so they are capable of excellent service when they want too.   Anyway, best place in the city I have found for this, and the temp. parking spaces out front during business hours make it easy and convenient to stop by and bring stuff in to their shop.

My great experience with Phil's started when I first called them.  I have a Dyson cordless vac that was running weird--just from my description the nice woman on the phone suggested two diagnoses then recommended another place that specializes in Dysons (though Phil's could have ordered the parts themselves--they wanted me to get the most knowledgeable Dyson service).   The Dyson place doesn't repair cordless vacs so I called Phil's back to see if they could give me a diagnosis so I'd know whether it would cost more to repair the vac or get a new one.  I brought it in, they flushed out a clog somewhere inside, and the vac is golden again.  Cost? $7.50.  Seven dollars and fifty cents.

After many years of replacing parts of a Sears vacuum cleaner to keep it going, we decided to purchase a new Miele vacuum.  There really was no question as to where we would make this purchase because our son had bought one at Phil's when he first moved to the City.  We experienced the same great assistance that he had in helping us decide which model would suit our needs/wants in a vacuum cleaner.  It was so nice to have the owner explain the features of the various models as we tested them out.  When we chose a model to purchase, she opened up the box to show us all of the parts, gave us free bags and told us how much she appreciated our business.  This level of service was worth the drive up to Phil's.  After dinner and the drive home, I vacuumed away, and loved the features of our new Miele - quiet, maneuverability and easy access to controls in the handle, not to mention the great cleaning job it did on the carpet and hardwood floors. In the future, if we have other appliances that need repairing, we will return to Phil's!

I had gotten a small bottle of cuticle oil stuck in the hose of my Meile vacuum about 5 months ago (believe me my cuticles and floors have both been suffering) and today the bottle finally made it's way close enough to the bag end of the hose that I could see it. After about an hour of struggling with both silicon tongs and long needle nose pliers, I admitted defeat--there was no way I was getting it out.

I found Phil's on yelp, rang them up right as they opened and they told me to come in. After about 25 seconds in the store they brought my hose back to me with the bottle extracted. Then they wouldn't even charge me. I'm almost looking forward to my vacuum breaking for real so I can bring it to Phil's and give them some business. Great place.

I had a lamp rewired here over the summer and the switch they used (cheap, flimsy plastic) is already broken, despite careful usage (it wasn't banged on the table or stepped on, just used to turn the lamp on and off).  In addition, price seemed high (over $40) particularly as the repair only held up for a few months. Great customer service.  I feel like they care about their customers and will give you an honest answer about repairs.  Originally went in to fix my Red Devil but have been back several times for various things.

I cannot say enough good things about this store. The customer support attitude of the two older people who served me was great, probably because they actually seem to be nice, friendly people.  The woman staffer showed expert knowledge of vacuum cleaners. Originally, my Shop Vac had broken down, so I got a small, horizontal Mighty Mite house vacuum with a Hepa filter at Phil's and this sucker was great.  I used it for heavier duty construction stuff, small chunks of plaster and  other objects. After about two or three years of stepping on it, the hose finally got too smashed, so I took it back to Phil's.  He fixed me a brand new one, reinforced with wire mesh, and custom cut to about a 20 foot length, so I can use it while up a ladder. It was cheap too! At first I was disappointed when he told me it wdn't be ready to be picked up until the next day. Then he said it wd take an hour, and finally just decided to do it right away.  Plus, they let me use the rest room while they worked on it.  It took about ten minutes.  A WORLD of difference from the vacuum cleaner potpourri variety shop dude on West Portal Avenue. I highly recommend Phil's vacuum center and the expert, friendly staff, and the Mom & Pop neighborhood store aura. A definite asset to our city.
