These guys were Life-savers!!!
Our tankless water heater started flashing an error code, and stopped heating up water. Although we've had it for about five years, we had never encountered this particular code, and couldn't reset the system. After googling many options and watching multiple YouTube videos, I still couldn't fix it.
After being out of hot water for a few days, I had no option but to call a professional. Unfortunately, I called the wrong one! They dispatched a technician who showed up late, and immediately charged me $69 just for showing up at our house. The individual looked at the exterior of the heater, took a couple pictures of the serial code and model, and then presented me with three options: $1000 to diagnose the problem + any potential replacement parts. Another option was spending a few thousand more for a complete service job, and $6800 to replace it. And remember, he never even did the minimal testing to see if it just needed a simple reset.
Needless to say, I thanked him for his time and told him I'd find an alternative.
I contacted the manufacturer, who recommended Nigel Mulgrew Plumbing. I called them after hours, and Andrew called me back. That in itself was impressive! He told me they were fully booked for another 4 days, but would call me should there be any cancellations. He also shared several pointers on how to diagnose the machine (for free). This next morning I received a call from the office, and within 20 mins Joel and his helper were at my house. It was a completely different experience from the previous day's experience with the other guys.
Joel was quick to troubleshoot a handful of different things. He communicated my options very clearly, and was confident he knew what the issue might be. He serviced the machine (used air compressor, removed debris, checked fuses, measured gas intake, etc). He then called the manufacturer to confirm step-by-step process of clearing the codes that didn't go away even after a complete descale and servicing. He meticulously followed every instruction given over the phone with tech support, and soon the water heater was fully functional.
(We discovered that the water heater locked itself up internally due to multiple power outages we had experienced in Pacifica... thus the error code)
Joel was incredibly helpful and courteous! He clearly explained the process to me, and when it was all said and done, I didn't even have to pay him on the spot. Instead, I was emailed the bill the following day. My total bill was $387! This was significantly less than what the other guys wanted. Although I hope to not have to use a plumber very often, i at least know now where I'll go should I have to! I highly recommend their services!
(Ironically, I discovered later that the other guys are located right next to these guys). Take it from me, Nigel Mulgrew Plumbing is the way to go!
