Carlos is helpful, honest and very knowledgeable. I consider myself so lucky to have found him. He solves complex problems, explains things very clearly, and takes care of every last detail.

He deserves every single one of these five star reviews.

We've worked with Carlos for multiple projects on our house. He's responsive, fair, and good at what he does. He's a good electrician who understands how to navigate the city permitting process. He's been a much needed partner while renovating our house for projects both big and small. We've recommended him to friends who have also loved working with him.

Just gave them a call for an inquiry. Provided me with free and helpful consultation over the phone even though they were onsite in the middle of work.

I recently needed some electrical work done and Carlos came quickly and actually charged me less than his phone estimate. How rare is that? Quality work done right.  I will use them again.

I have not any work done but I do want to comment in general of my experience.

First off we make an appointment which they cancel an hour prior and than we ask for Friday which they can not do so we make another appointment 2 weeks later because they were very busy with another 2 week job.

No worries #1.

So the other appointment they show up 2 hours early during lunch and just kind of force us to see them.  Any way our fear here is if we make them wait too long they won't come back. No worries #2, lets just get the job done regardless of not following a schedule. We see clients all day so we really have to follow our schedule.

So 1 week later we are waiting for a quote, no quote to be had so we call to be told someone will call us back.  No one calls us back with a Quote. Another 2 weeks go buy and I call today to be told the guy who did the measurement is on leave for two weeks. Mean while I think I am talking to the same guy on the phone.

No worries #3, lets just get this done I say, for  third time. Well can we schedule another time for you guys to come in and do another measurement and quote?  I am basically told No we are too busy and we should look for another electrician and maybe we will call you next week.

Carlos is the perfect example of the kind of dream craftsman that you always hope to get when searching for a professional.

We had him take a look at one of the fixtures that flickered in our 1911 craftsman. After a few tests Carlos had determined the fixture was the problem and he said he could repair it.

The next day Carlos phoned and let me know the fixture was repaired and wanted to know if we had purchased the supplies for the other work we wanted done or if he should get those things for us in the morning on his way over.

Finally on the 2nd day he returned and reinstalled the fixture which is now working perfectly. We took a look at the other work we wanted done but Carlos had some suggestions that didn't involve doing any work or cost whatsoever. He also offered to take a look at our breaker box and the main wiring in our garage.

I highly recommend Carlos and Mayan Electric. Carlos always arrived exactly on time, was extremely friendly and an excellent communicator.

The 3 things I base my on review are:

      -- Craftsmanship - Carlos obviously loves his job and takes pride in his work.
      -- Communication - A call on the next day verifying plans and letting me know the work was completed successfully.
      -- Time & Price - Carlos was always on time and the price to work ratio was accurate.

i belong to a TIC owned victorian in Haight Ashbury that was hopelessly out of date with electrical voltage.  Carlos at Mayan gave us a great price, communicated well, and was able to trouble-shoot on issues we homeowners would never have understood.  He is famiiar with PGE processes and willingly intervened with them.  Our upgrade is nearly complete and we are very happy.

Hire Carlos; he is a fair, able, and pleasant contractor who will not disappoint you.

Carlos just finished up a quick job for me.  The transformer in my under-cabinet lighting went out.  At first I tried asking around to my neighbors in my complex to see if there was anybody that they recommended.  After coming up dry (but getting several painter recommendations...) I turned to Yelp and found Carlos.

* He was friendly and approachable.
* He was responsive over the phone
* He was clear in communicating what he was doing
* His price was reasonable and he stated it upfront.
* Most importantly, the problem was fixed with no fuss.

All around I had a great experience.

Carlos was able to respond immediately to diagnose a very perplexing wiring problem in my apartment building which was resulting in a blown fuse every time you plugged in a television set.  He is patient, helpful, and persistent even in the face of a very strange and difficult to track down issue.

I was very impressed by his positive attitude and desire to keep going until we found the solution - which we did, and he charged a very fair price for his time.

I will definitely call Carlos when I have electrical issues, and I am confident he'd do a great job on a remodeling project or other more major work.

I agree with Kevin Y.  I may be a bit paranoid, but I'm always afraid of unscrupulous contractors and the idea of finding a 'dream craftsman' is wonderful, but rarely realized.  

Carlos was very professional, knowledgeable, patient (answered all of my questions and concerns), reasonably priced, on time and extremely friendly  He was a pleasure to deal with in every way.  I wouldn't hesitate contacting him in the future with any electrical needs.

Carlos is helpful, knowledgeable, and reasonable.  He was able to do a panel replacement for us in the 2 days between when we got the keys to our new house and when we moved it.  We also hired him a few years later to install an electric car charger.  He's the person I call when I have an electrical issues.  He was recommended to me initially by a friend, and I've since referred him to others.  Glad to have him in my home-owner-arsenal.

We would highly recommend Carlos. We recently purchased an older home (with older wiring). We wanted to make it as safe as possible for our four year old son. Originally, we were only going to install a few GFI outlets in the kitchens and bathrooms. However, Carlos toured the home and suggested that we take a bit more of a comprehensive approach. Carlos executed the job in two days and in a cost effective manner. He also provided us with a map of our circuits (free of charge) in addition to making some usage suggestions. Carlos is an absolute pleasure to work with and, again, we would highly recommend him.

Carlos came on short notice, was incredibly patient and thorough on both the phone call, as well as the house visit. He is hands down the most honest electrician I have ever run across, admitting that some work I was considering was simply not worth doing or could even be done by myself!

What a wonderful experience!

Carlos was fantastic!!! I was running late to my appointment and phoned Carlos to give him a heads up. He was very sweet and assured me he would be there waiting. When I arrived, he was nothing but energetic and eager to help.  My electric stove wasn't working. He fixed the problem in less than 5 minutes. I would call him again in a heart beat!

Read the reviews. Hey Mayan must be great. Called on Friday. We will call you back about an appointment on Saturday. No call. I finally call....and then schedule an appt for Saturday at 4:00pm. I emphasize, just call if you are running late. It is now 5:15pm and I call Carlos and he is uh....what can I say.

Bad Service. Bad Service. Bad Service. Don't use Mayan unless you want to be disappointed.

A terrific electrician. Carlos really cares about his customers and provides great advice and top-notch work.

Recently had him take a look at an issue with our electrical panel and he explained exactly what was going on and that there were two ways to fix the issue--a $175 breaker replacement or a $1,800 panel replacement. Most electricians would have just sold the high-ticket item, but Carlos really cares about finding the best, most economical solution. I really trust him.

If you need work done on your home or business, I highly recommend him.

Carlos installed an extra cable jack in my living room and he did a fantastic job. I had gotten two other quotes for the work. Both other service providers 1) charged more, and 2) weren't going to patch the holes they made in the drywall (so i would have to get a second guy out to patch the holes).

Carlos did everything - installed the jack and patched the holes. His pricing was reasonable, he worked efficiently, and he showed up on time. He's a nice and personable guy, and he got the job done right. If I need more electrical work done, he will be my first call.

I have worked with Carlos several times over the years and he has always been prompt, pleasant and professional in his approach and execution of the jobs. Carlos' prices are fair and he truly cares about doing a thorough job. It's so nice to have an honest, smart electrician in the area!

Carlos came on a very short notice and spent time to completely diagnose an intermittent electrical (overhead light) problem that others had been unable to resolve.
He persevered to the extent he opened up the ceiling to find the wiring that was  causing the problem. His rate was completely reasonable.

I was really impressed. This guy is a real pro. He did a great job of adding an outlet to my kitchen. Clean work and good wall patching. Best of all, he came when he said he would. He did what he said he'd do, and his work was top rate. Carols is a real find.

Carlos promptly responded to my request for service, responded with his availability and came on time to fix the problem. He also provided full details of the problem and made fixes to prevent the electric outlet breakdown fro reoccurring. 5 stars all the way.

Refused to take on a job based on a phone conversation.  If you live in a rental & have deferred maintenance or an issue that another electrician has bungled, 1) don't call this guy, and 2) don't tell him about it if you do.  Wasted my time talking to him, he wouldn't even come out to look at the problem to see if it was something he could handle.

I am glad i found Carlos.  He arrived at my place 15 minutes earlier (a rarity that I see from other contractors/electricians).  I had the baseboard heater missing, and he was able to find the point where the wire from the thermostat was.  He did it very quickly. He also communicated all gotchas or what I will do next with me.   He was very willing to come back and help install the baseboard heater, and he did a great job cleaning up and patching any holes.  His pricing is very very competitive. I will use him again for next jobs and I am glad I found him here on Yelp.  By the way, he answers phone so you will not end up leaving messages.  He also responds via email very quickly.

#1 SF Electrical Contractor for West Portal. This guy comes our home 9PM on a Saturday night, a professional and understanding as can be and then fixes the problem in less than 20 minutes. My wife is ecstatic, my kids can watch their Xmas movie and my weekend is saved for footbal thanks to Carlos......his responsiveness was unreal. This guy is the BOMB!

Mayan electric is the a real professional electrician.  My girlfriend gave me a electric clothes dryer with a four prong plug.  The plug on the wall had a three prong plug.  I called Mayan Electric on a wednesday and he came on a friday at the time he promised.  He came in and replaced the plug and the dryer worked like a charm.  I would like to recommend Mayan Electric for all your electrical needs.

Carlos just completed electrical work in my condo.  I needed to replace bathrooms exhaust fans, bathroom lighting and install new under-cabinet lighting in my kitchen.  He is very friendly, responsive, responsible and gets the job done is a timely and efficient manner.  And his fees were very reasonable and fair.

Carlos is fantastic. He is still in the process of performing significant upgrades to our new home's electrical system, and has been doing a great job. As new issues and needs have come up, he has been incredibly helpful in offering solutions and adding work for reasonable fees.

Carlos is also a terrific communicator, and has taken the time to talk through some of the more complicated issues we've encountered. He has made our first home improvement experience wonderful. Carlos will be my go-to electrician for all of our future home improvement projects.

I'm so glad I looked on YELP and spotted Carlos.  The day I called he came that afternoon and gave me an estimate and then emailed me a hardcopy the following day as he said he would.  He was able to schedule me very quickly, within a couple of days, and showed up precisely on time that morning.  His work is very clean and tidy and very goodlooking, too.  I had him installing a new plug near several stacks of fragile china and glass and Carlos didn't bat an eye; he was totally careful and respectful; not a close-call in sight!  And his price was very, very reasonable.  And besides all that he is truly pleasant to work with; a very nice man; dependable, professional, thorough, and thoughful.  I'll be calling him back if I have another electrical job.

Carlos was great. Honest, helpful, efficient and quick. If you need an electrician- call him. His rates are 75/hour.

I have had Carlos complete work for me twice.  The first time he installed a new cable track light with surface mounted transformer, installed recessed lighting in my bedroom and installed a new outlet in my closet.  This last time I had Carlos install a new hanging light fixture in my kitchen.  Carlos did a wonderful job both times!    He left my place cleaner than when he arrived.  His work was exceptional!  Also, for both jobs I compared his rates to other electricians referred to me by friends and Carlos' rates were comparable or lower.  I recommend Carlos to all my family and friends without hesitation.

My Dad had bought a new stove and lo and behold they don't make the power cords as long as they used to!  There was only one place to install the stove but the cord was too short to reach the outlet.  After going round and round with the stove company on getting a longer cord we thought about bringing the cord to the stove.  After calling around for quotes, I was weary about getting jipped by electricians.  My landlady recommended Carlos and am glad she did!  He was courteous, knowledgeable and resasonable.  He added a new outlet quickly and well done.  I would definately recommend Carlos and call him again for future electrical jobs.

Carlos just came out to fix a broken light switch -- an easy thing (I know now), but no one wants me touching anything electrical. He showed up on time, was courteous & professional, and gave me a 'this is ridiculously easy' discount.  He quickly fixed my light switch and took a look at some other issues that were bothering me.

We hired Carlos to fix a light that wouldn't work in our rental unit.   He came out when he said he would, was able to figure out the problem quickly,  and fixed the problem the same day.  His price was very reasonable and our tenant was happy with the repair.  We would definitely use Carlos again.

Though I've been here before complimenting and praising Carlos for a wonderful job I must do it again. Today I needed some minor electrical repairs and once again called Carlos of Mayan Electric. He was here on time, very well prepared and completed the job quickly and reasonably. Then I asked Carlos for a referral to a handyman to do work I needed that wasn't electrical....well he asked what it was and since I had the materials jumped right in and completed the job. Again he was quick, well prepared even though this was a last minute request and reasonable. Besides Carlos' many talents to help with needs around your home, he is extremely clean. We called Carlos after deciding that our organization's conference room needed better lighting. He came to our offices and made a detailed assessment, and then came back, right at the time we'd scheduled, to install new fluorescent fixtures. We have a fairly old building, and the installation was not a simple task. Carlos did an incredibly efficient, professional job, and thanks to him, we have a space that is worth calling a conference room!

Carlos just did some work for me installing circuits in my basement and did a great job.  Neat, careful installation and tidy work all around.  Would hire again - friendly and honest.

I called Carlos for a quote on upgrades to my GFs place. Carlos responded promptly and came to take a look. I found him to be open and very informative about the work needed. He made a couple of money saving suggestions. A reasonable quote arrived and Carlos did the work with a helper. We are very pleased with the job. It was neat and Carlos does his job in a friendly, professional manner. I recommend him unreservedly.

Carlos came by and I thought he would replace the lighting fixtures right away, but he came back the following week to complete the job. All in all, he did a great job. I would use him again.

On Sept 1, 2009, our tenants plugged in a defective lamp and shorted out the electiricity through much of the house. We checked the circuit breaker and could not solve the problem. We called Mayan Electric and Carlos gave us instructions on how to solve the problem by checking various circuit breakers, thus to possibly avoid the need for a service call.  We followed his intructions but were unable to solve the problem. So we arranged for an appointment and Carlos arrived on time. Carlos searched the 3-story house and located a long hidden fuse box in one of the closets. He fixed the problem immediately and charged us only for the service call. We are very happy with him.

Carlos is a great electrician. Very professional, polite and friendly. Big plus for actually answering the phone when I called as opposed to letting it go to voice mail. He was able to fix the problem we were having with an electrical outlet and his prices were very reasonable. Thanks Carlos!

Thanks to all of you who wrote reviews on Yelp, I found Carlos--and he is simply the BEST. He came by the day after I called him. He was on time. He knows what he'd doing. And he's fair and reasonable on pricing. When he came over to do the work (install a very heavy and valuable chandelier), he again arrived on time and he and his assistant did a fantastic job installing the chandelier. And, Carlos even came back a few days later to smooth out the ceiling so we could be ready to paint. I can't recommend him more highly.
