Our EV car charger overheated and melted the outlet before the circuit breaker was tripped
It shut down inside and outside lights plus the pool pump.
Called La Costa Electric and they were able to come out the next day.
Lou was on time and took care of the electrical issue.

Overall, they did what they said they would, when they said they would. i think their prices are a bit high.

* I called to have them troubleshoot three outlets that were not working
* they quoted $250 to troubleshoot that would be applied toward repair
* I asked them to plan on replacing three physical outlets
* They called 15 minutes before appointment time and said they were on the way and they showed up on time
* The found the problem (faulty breaker) very quickly, then replaced the breaker and replaced three outlets
* total time hour and fifteen minutes

Bill:
$340 to troubleshoot then replace breaker
$225 (parts and labor) to replace three standard outlets
Total $565

I don't use electricians often so not sure how they compare. Giving them four stars for showing up on time and resolving the problem. Taking off a star because I feel like the service was overly expensive. Receipt attached.

We wanted recessed lighting installed in family room. We used La Costa Electric a few months ago to install a new outlet in our garage for a fridge and to install some new ceiling fans - they did a great job.

Brock responded to our request quickly. We sent pictures of the room so he could give us a quote. Brock's quote was consistent with a few other places we called. I suppose new lighting is pretty straightforward install. We went with La Costa Electric since we had such a good experience the last time. They were able to get us scheduled within a couple days of calling.

On the day of install, Brock and Joe showed up on time, ready to go. They were very friendly and knowledgeable. They had to cut a few holes in the wall to run wiring to the new lights. They cut the holes neatly and had sheets down to capture any dust. They made sure to cut the holes near the studs and even drilled the drywall pieces back in place. We need to get a drywall person to help patch the holes so we appreciate how tidy they left the area. Overall, they did a great job and we'll definitely call them again!

I called them yesterday and spoke with Brock. He was very nice and was able to schedule an appointment for today to replace my outside lights on the house.

Lou and Joey came by and made the switch in no time. The new lights look fantastic! They didn't over charge and did a clean job.

I'll definitely be using their services again. Very good company that I definitely recommend.

After speaking with Joe and sending pictures and a video he quoted me a price of $1500 to fix the issue and when I paused, he stated they have great Yelp reviews. We had a wired outlet that went around the door frame, which required proper wiring through the drywall. He stated they would be over in less than an hour to do the initial work and would return on Monday to complete it. He also said once they assess the situation in person they could give me a more accurate quote. Well, after at most 3 hours probably more like 2, I was presented with a bill for $1500. So if you break it down that's either $500 or $750 per hour. After posting my experience on Nextdoor for feedback and calling other electricians to get quotes, I got screwed. The work was good, price was not so much.

I had an electrical issue that needed immediate attention. I called around to several places and Brock called me back within minutes after I left a message.

I told him what was going on and he immediately knew what the problem was and how to resolve it. He was also able to fit me into their schedule, even on such short notice.

Lou was at my place within the hour and took care of the issue for me. BUT, not only did he address the problem I called about, he also asked questions about other things that could've caused the breaker to shut off and didn't leave until he was satisfied that everything was good to go and I didn't have anything to worry about.

I would definitely recommend La Costa Electrical and they will certainly be my go to whenever I need electrical work done.

I had been trying to figure out why my electrical plugs were out for a few weeks. I finally relented and called La Costa Electrical. Brock promptly picked up the phone on a Sunday morning and took the time to hear me out. Ridiculously expensive quotes for everything (3-4 times more expensive than quotes I received from other electricians). Not sure how good their work is since I never went with them, but since I have to select a rating, I'm picking 3 just based upon on price alone (assuming their work is good). But wanted to warn folks who haven't gotten competing quotes about how expensive they are for various different things - from just changing an outlet to adding a circuit or a ring camera etc.

I would highly recommend La Costa Electric! I received a return call from Brock the same day I had left a message. I explained my request to him and text photos of the areas involved. He called me immediately after review and we discussed, in further detail, my request for the installation of a more convenient on/off switch for a hot water heater recirculating pump. When asked, he gave me an approximate amount for such services that I found reasonable, and an appointment was made. All said and done within 3 days of my call, I had an appointment and the job was completed by Lou with much attention to detail and cleanliness which I have found to be rare. Thank you very much for a great job!

Brock was awesome! I called La Costa Electric this morning when the power in my house went out. SDGE hadn't reported an outage and my neighbors still had their power. Brock answered right away and helped me trouble shoot over the phone. Turns out, the main breaker had tripped and I needed to switch it all the way to the left (which took some muscle!) before turning it back on to the right. I'm so thankful to Brock, because I know he saved me a lot of money by helping me over the phone. He was extremely kind, knowledgeable and professional. I'll definitely be using La Costa Electric for any work I need in the future!

The outlets on one wall in our kitchen stopped working. I called La Costa Electric and spoke with Brock. I described the issue to him and he suggested that I find and press the GFCI button on the outlet. I did and it worked perfectly, power was restored! Definitely saved me some money. Family run business and they are very courteous and prompt and know what they are doing. Weird circuit issue on kitchen lights came up couple years after remodel. Lou came out and worked on it. He also installed a dimmer that I asked him to as long as he was here. That night another issue came up because of switches the remodeler installed that we didn't even know existed. Lou came right back the next day and fixed it no charge.
Will definitely be our go to electricians but hopefully there's no more messed up circuits from the remodel.

So impressive! Lou and Joe were on time, professional, efficient and fixed all the problems I was having. My electricity failed in 2 rooms leaving me without wi-fi, office, etc. I tried resetting the circuit breakers and watched a number of YouTube videos to try to fix on my own.

I didn't get anywhere on my own so I reached out to Brock as I have been extremely happy with he and his team in the past. He returned the call within the hour and took the time to walk me through fixing this on my own. At this time of Covid, everyone is home and he is in very big demand.

Called and asked if he could help with an electrical problem. He explained where I live is outside his service area.

With that said, he still answered my 18 million questions about my issue, provided many suggestions about how to solve my issue and told me exactly what I needed to ask for when I was calling around and how much he would have charged had he done the work. Definitely didn't have to do that. I'm a rookie when it comes to electrical and he was very patient.

I sure wish he was in my area as I've made about 15 phone calls about this issue and he was the most helpful and descriptive of any of the vendors I reached out to.

Can't speak to the work, but based on altruism alone....5 stars.

This is not the first time I have called on La Costa Electric and it won't be the last. I want to thank Brock for helping us out when we were in a bind. We needed an electrician to come out the same day to help us with a failing outlet in our garage (used for our water heater). Thankfully, Lou and Joey were available that afternoon for the repair. Because of their excellent and efficient work on the GFI outlet, we ended up deciding on having them complete additional work on dimmer switches (which we had been putting off). Lou and Joey were nothing but polite, friendly, and wonderful to work with. I can't thank them enough for a job well done. I highly recommend La Costa Electric. Thank you!!

I've been meaning to do a review of La Costa Electric for some time so after they came out and did some more work I figured better late than never.

I found these guys on Yelp back in 2014 and they installed a bunch of recessed LED lights in our living room, took some out and replaced them with a ceiling light fixture in our dining room and also installed a ceiling fan in our master bedroom where there was no wiring running. They did an awesome job.

About two weeks ago I again called and left a message telling them we needed more recessed lights installed, this time in my office. Brock the owner called back right away and scheduled for his son, Lou and his partner Joey to come out. The installed 4 LED's in my office and ran the wiring down to a new switch. Their work was excellent. Then last week I had them come back to replace all our other existing recessed lights that had old school flood bulbs with LED inserts plus replacing burnt out bulbs in a ceiling fixture that was a good 12-15 feet above our ground floor.

Once again Lou and Joey did a great job. These guys are awesome and I'm sure we'll need them again in the future. Highly recommended.

La Costa Electric was recommended to me by a friend. They are a mon & pop business. Brock the owner came out with his son and one other tech and did a great job. They changed the outlet that was causing the problem and now all my outlets in my kitchen along with my garbage disposal is working. Not only are the technicians from La Costa Electric efficient but they won't give up until they find the problem. They are also very polite to each other and very friendly to the customer.

We needed them because we had hired an electrician to put in an overhead light in our bedroom, and moved the furniture for them...only to get a text cancelling the appointment. So, after calling LaCosta Electric and telling our story, they came the same day, and did the job quickly and professionally. Their rates are competitive, though we didn't mind paying a little on the high side for friendly, prompt, and courteous service. Highly recommend this company!

La Costa Electric is a family run business that I would highly recommend. They respond quickly and are able to help you out right away. The first time I used them was a few months ago, when my ceiling fan was blinking on and off. They were able to diagnose the issue, recommending that I purchase a new ceiling fan that they would install. They arrived on time and completed the job. While they were here, I asked them all the other questions I had and they took the time to answer every single one. In the end, a fair price was given and I was a happy customer.

I gave Brock another call today when my microwave and a few lights went out. He was able to walk me through some troubleshooting steps and was even more excited than I was when the issue was fixed and everything turned back on. Great people that always want to help you out!

Just had the best experience with a Brock and Lou. Our air conditioner is down and for a quick solution, we wanted to install a ceiling fan. I called Brock in the morning and the fan was installed by 1 pm the same day. I was quoted a fair price over the phone, they showed up on time and and the work is outstanding. The team did a great job. We recently moved into our new home in La Costa and wanted to install an appropriate plug for my EV charger. On top of that, some of the electrical in our garage looked really questionable, strung together at one point with extension cords and a power strip tied in with a junction outside a box or wall.
We discussed both issues right away, turns out I did not have as specific info as I needed about the charger plug, but one of them immediately got on the phone with the local dealer to find out what they recommended for their chargers while the other started cleaning up the wiring job. They were patient with me while I looked up my new charger specs while they worked, and we eventually settled on the type of plug I needed. Meanwhile they finished up the wiring job, and installed a proper junction box. I plugged in my current (level 1) charger, and it still wouldn't light green. Turns out that area wasn't properly grounded. They immediately tracked the line between the outlet and the fuse box and found where the grounding connection was loose and fixed it.
They had another appt to get to by that time, but promised to come back when it was done and install the charger outlet (which they did). It works great, and now I can safely plug in all our power tools (and my old, slower charger) on one side of the garage, and plug in my new level 2 charger from the other side in the new outlet! Both electricians were knowledgeable, friendly, and cooperative, both we me and each other, as they worked efficiently to meet out home needs, and were respective of social distancing while we interacted, and kept their masks on the whole time. The bill was right on the estimate. I will definitely go back to them with any further electric needs on our new house!

I gave La Costa Electric a call to get a quote for a project I was considering doing. Brock gave me a detailed rundown of the required work needed to keep everything up to code. I had what I thought was a very simple job (putting the covers back on three plugs after a new thick quartz backsplash was installed) but I was too nervous to take it on.

I was shocked when I received a quote from another highly rated electrician on Yelp for $300. I replied clarifying that I only wanted the panels/covers put back on, but the $300 price held.

I then spoke with Brock who looked at a photo, told me the screws I need, and said it's a simple job ... just to be sure I turn off the power at the electrical service panel. I'm going to do it myself and am grateful to have stumbled across such an honest and helpful professional.

I saw the La Costa Electric truck at my neighbor's and raced out to get their card. When they finished the job at my neighbor's, they came over to fix my little job. Two of the rocker switches in my laundry room weren't working right and they fixed them in about 15 minutes.

$150 is the minimum charge but since they were already in my hood they gave me a little discount, and I paid $100. It seems like a high price but all I can say is, have you tried to get things fixed by an electrician lately?? I have had several come over who charged me a lot and didn't fix the problem! And electric stuff is something that handymen don't usually know how to do.

So here come two really cute guys who know what they're doing, are personable and efficient, are bonded, licensed and insured. Hey, I'm there.

Many thanks to La Costa Electric for fixing my electrical issue on the telephone. It was a simple matter of the GFCI tripping which caused all my cable boxes, my internet and my garage doors to go out. The gentleman on the phone suggested that I check this GFCI outlet. He said Just press the reset button and magically all the power came back. I am very appreciative and would highly recommend these guys.

I was collecting estimates from 2-3 companies to replace every light fixture and fan in my home and install several exterior flood lights. A big house and a fairly big job that will take several days to complete. I contacted La Costa and got a call back from Brock. He first said that he wouldn't come to my house to look at the project or if he did he would have to charge for it. I told him that his competitors don't do that and so he reluctantly agreed to come to my house a few days later at a specific time. I texted him my name, address and the day and time immediately after our conversation as he requested. I structured my schedule for the day and time that he agreed to come to the house and you guessed it, total no show. Not even a text or phone call.

I called 3 different companies explaining what was going on. They said they could come out and fix the problem after charging me an arm and leg. And then I called Brock the owner. He explain how easy the fix was and we could do it ourselves. It took us 15min at max. And just like that the problem was fix. Didn't cost us a thing! Brock and his son got the job done. He did have to move our appointment time around, but he called with updates on his timing so we knew when to expect them. They installed a motion sensor light in our closet, cleaned up some AV cables with a clean face plate, installed new recessed cans, and hung a chandelier. They weren't the cheapest option, but their quality of service was worth it. When Brock came through to give us a quote, he gave us recommendations on what to buy, so that we could get the job done quickly. We are planning to ask them back in a month or so when we're ready to tackle more projects.

I was so pleased with the work that Lou and his helper did in my home. They were extremely professional, polite and thorough. They spent a considerable amount of time troubleshooting a problem I had with an outlet - and solved the problem; replaced all my bulbs with LED lights and i installed new lights in two areas. Brock was the fastest to reply and most helpful over the phone. He offered to come the next day but I didn't have my act together yet to have him over (not his fault). My husband has taken over this issue so I don't know who will come out to help but I was most impressed with Brock when I was in charge of calling for help.

Brock and his sons installed an outdoor outlet for me along with four ceiling lights in my home. They were extremely professional - arrived on time, were friendly and knowledgeable, and were respectful of my home - were careful not to damage anything and cleaned up before they left. Brock quoted me a price per job and explained he does not charge by the hour. This worked out great because two of the lights they installed needed lightbulbs and one of the pendant lights arrived broken. So Brock purchased the bulbs and exchanged the pendant light for me without additional cost. I really appreciate not being nickel-and-dimed. I'm so impressed by the job that they did that I've asked them to return to install a chandelier later this week. I highly recommend La Costa Electric.

Today I had Brock and his team (family supported) do a ROCK-STAR job on installing a ceiling fan that needed wiring as well as an install. While they were working I remembered my fan in the master shower wasn't working - they ran the ladder back up and took a look (come to find out it is a SUPER silent fan and it was twirling away. They stated $25 for the look into it which was more than fair. It was a fast job so he wasn't going to tack the $25 on. What business do you know does that!!! I insisted. So, it was a weekend and some of my outlets were not working. I called La Costa Electric and Brock answered on like the second ring. He asked me where I lived, and then let me know he had over 30 years of experience in dealing with homes like mind, and then, proceeded to walk me through the steps of locating a hidden GFI breaker!!! I called in the morning to inquire about hanging a chandelier for me- I lucked out and they had an opening that afternoon. They showed up on time and got to work hanging and setting it up- it turned out to be a very complicated and intricate chandelier and it took 3 men to put it together! Great job helping me with my electrical needs at my house. I had some questions about what I needed. They just had me text some pictures over and they were able to give me advice over the phone. Came out to the house and did a great job. Friendly and professional. Explained everything to me clearly.

While he was over, Linden checked on my fuse box and recommended replacing some breakers. But he was really friendly about and it and made an big effort to let me know he wasn't trying to upsell me or get more work from me, just that he recommended it as a future safety improvement to keep in mind. I went ahead and had him do the work and it turned out great.

I like that it's a family business. You can tell they keep your best interests in mind and take the time to do a quality job. And the price was better than it would have been with one of the big guys. I highly recommend them and will call them again next time I need electrical work.

Just a quick note of MY experience. Called and left a message and heard back on the 2nd day. I was told quite quickly, after I explained what work we needed, that they charge $125 for an estimate!!!! (It would be deducted from the charge if we hire them for the job.) Sorry, but this is outrageous and the first time I have EVER encountered this ... and from a licensed contractor yet. I just want others to know that this is NOT the norm and hopefully others won't think it is acceptable. By charging up front for an estimate, they have NO incentive to provide a reasonable price, knowing that you've already had to invest $125 before they even start. The job I explained to be done is typically $800-$1,000 so hardly not worth their time to give us an appropriate and free estimate.

I called La Costa Electric because my electricity went out on my second refrigerator-freezer. Brock picked up the phone and asked me to explain the problem. I explained the problem and he said it was my GFI. He told me how to reset it and it worked!! He didn't charge me a thing. Being clueless with electrical he could of come out and charged me $250 and I would of gladly paid it. It is great how willing Brock was to help and also that my call didnt go to voicemail. We ran into wiring issues when taking out part of a wall in our new home and the renovation came to a complete stop just days before we were going to move in. My husband found La Costa Electric on Yelp, called and they came out later that day. It was amazing to have such a quick response and the work was done well and at a great price before we moved in. We even had time to have the painter come in and finish his part of the job. I looked at Brock's reviews and felt secure to call him to do some work. He responded promptly, very friendly over the phone. He made an appointment for that Saturday . He called Saturday and said he was running late .. Called again that he would be later. I felt that his calls were surely responsible. He showed up. Friendly smiling and personable. I had him put in nine (9) smoke detectors. He bought eight and I supplied one. He visited with my guests, I introduced him to my neighbors. He completed the job and handed me a $1,200 bill for purchase and installation of nine smoke detectors. The price was outrageous but felt since I didn't ask for the cost up front, that issue is on me. If I were to pay for electrical work like this on my commercial property in LA I would go broke. He didn't accept credit cards which is highly unusual He then asked me for cash and asked how much cash I had. I ended up having my guest write him a check as in this day and age who keeps a check book. I would not call again because of his excessive charging. Again, $1200 for smoke detectors and listening to him for three hours. I hope someone finds this helpful. Ask his price up front

Had the pleasure of working with Brock today. Had a few electrical problems around the house today and my lights and a few outlets weren't working in both my bathrooms. I had called a few electricians with no luck, so I called La Costa Elelectric and they called me back with in 10 minutes. I told Brock about my problem and he advised me he would be out within the hour (I was stunned how fast he wanted to help me). Brock came out and immediately began working and explaining in detail of what might've occurred. He mitigated the issue and now I have lights in both bathrooms working and he advised me that some of the components on the electrical panel needed to be replaced to a higher amperage. He informed me that he would come out the next day and finish the rest of the work at a very affordable price. I'm overly pleased with Brock's performance and his base knowledge in electrical work. He really cares about satisfying his customers and the community he serves. I will definitely use him for any upgrades or future occurrences I may run into; thanks Brock!

We needed a new chandelier installed at our home, so I did some research on electricians in the area. I'm glad I landed on these guys. From the beginning, it was easy to work with Brock to get a quote and set up a time (they were even able to do it the next day). I compared prices with a few other electricians in the area and they were the best. Brock came with his son Lou and they took extreme care to make sure they removed the other chandelier correctly and install the new one at the right height - even asking if I was OK with the length after the installation. What really set these guys apart was that I had been having some issues with 2 dead sockets in one of our rooms and they were also able to help figure out that problem and get it fixed as part of the fee for the chandelier. Luckily it wasn't a major issue, but was definitely something we needed to have fixed. I will call Brock and Lou again if I ever needed an electrician and will recommend them to anyone.

Wow. I am so disappointed. I read the outstanding reviews of this company on Yelp, so I was looking forward to hiring Brock to do some electrical work on the new house we just bought in San Marcos. He responded promptly to my digital request with both an email and a phone call. But as I began explaining the items we needed help with, which included an outdoor electrical box for our broken irrigation controller, and before I could finish explaining in my laymen's terms what I thought was needed, he interrupted me and responded in a condescending tone that he didn't do that sort of thing, in a way that made me feel stupid for asking. I really felt like he thought I was wasting his time. He also quoted such high prices that I would be a fool to hire him, which was his goal it seemed. I was so upset I was shaking, and I told him so. His response was to tell me that I was wrong, that he had done nothing wrong, and that the call was recorded. Again, wow. I am sure that he is a good electrician, since he has so many good reviews, but he won't be coming to my house, that's for sure. I am sure that Brock will write a good defense of himself here on Yelp, but trust me when I say that he didn't act like someone who wanted to help us with our electrical needs.

My wife and I recently moved into a 1980's home in north San Diego County and wanted to change the lighting throughout the bottom floor. We had Brock and his boys come out to move an existing chandelier into our rechristened dining room, and had them install two new outlets. Called La Costa Electric this morning looking for repair of my GFI circuit. Brock said he would be here between 1 and 3. He arrived on time, looked at the problem, replaced my old GFI outlet, which had malfunctioned, resulting in a melted box and scorched wires; also replaced the second old GFI outlet in the kitchen and a second bathroom outlet that was worn and wouldn't hold a plug. We had three electrical issues that we needed resolved:
1. A non-working fountain outside (it never worked).
2. A stove hood (it worked at one time).
3. An outlet we wanted installed in a small room.
Both #1 and #2 proved to be extremely challenging but Brock never gave up. He was persistent, especially in the fountain, which was particular difficult since the original wiring was never done properly.
