James and his team are 5/5 star worthy. Very easy to get a hold of to kick off your job and the two main representatives are friendly, quick to execute, and quick to respond to any questions.
Custom electric handled three moderate sized tasks for me. They ran 5 cables from my 220v box to the hot tub in the back yard, they connected this hot tub, and installed an additional outlet to our outside patio.
From beginning to end the service was efficient and friendly. The owner James lives locally in the area and is easy to strike up a side convo with.
Happy to recommend this company to neighbors, to business, and to friends. I'll be using them for all of my family's future needs.

Tried and tried and tried to get some sort of reasonable paced communication going with this company. As with every other contractor that has ever lived, they didn't bother to reply. Took their sweet time. Days dragged into weeks I stayed polite. As I always do. I watched them care nothing about my schedule. My timeline. It's all irrelevant to contractors. That's how they all are. Ultimately, literally TWENTY DAYS after my initial inquiry to get a job done, I gave up waiting. And I informed them I would be writing this review.
Guys, maybe treat your customers and potential customers like they even slightly matter, and you won't run the risk of getting a one star review. I am completely done with contractors. This entire industry is a massive pile of incompetent, disrespectful, inconsiderate, apathetic individuals who absolutely do not care about literally anything except themselves :-).
I asked Custom Electric to install two recessed lights in our loft and change the trim on two existing lights to match the new trim. Communication with James was prompt and he worked with my schedule. Pricing was competitive with estimates that I received from other businesses. Kyle and Carlos just finished the lights and I couldn't be happier with everything! They were very professional and very fast (less than 1 hour to install.) I would definitely recommend them to our family and friends. I will also contact them in the future to install recessed lights in our bedrooms.

I reached out to several companies via Yelp for quotes. This company replied promptly and their hourly rate was competitive. They were able to come out that very same day and address our issue, which was a recessed light fixture issue. The problem was resolved fast, and we weren't even charged for a full hour! Very nice of the business to not charge for a full hour just for the sake of making more money. I'll definitely go to them again the next time an electrical issue arises.
I had contacted Custom Electric SD via Yelp for a quote and scheduling and they were great! They came the very next day to complete a laundry list of things I needed (lighting, outlet move, fans installed) all in just a few short hours. I could not be happier with the results!
I have an older home so it was a little more challenging but James and his team were fantastic!

We asked Custom Electric to update our kitchen and bathroom lighting to recessed LED, as well as make a couple smaller switch changes. James, Kyle and Carlos were quick and friendly on site, and were precise in their work. They finished ahead of schedule, cleaned up after themselves and took care of a couple details that I wouldn't have thought of. Overall, a great impression.
I especially appreciated that James liked working as a collaborator on the design and the approach. We'd asked for fixtures and switches that were a little outside the norm, and he said he liked learning from this project.
We have a lot of electrical projects in the house that remain to be done, and I'll be glad to call James again in the future.
In search of electrician to wire & install Nest doorbell. Connected through here. Professional experience, left it better than how he found it - meaning cleaned up legacy electric artifacts that have accumulated over years of different owners. Will def use again.
Ok, I know there are other reviews with 5s, but still wanted to include mine. James and his team knew what they were doing, worked promptly and cleaned up everything. Additionally they were nice people to have in our home. James gave us input on options which was helpful in getting a result which suited our needs. I'll definitely use them again (want to wall mount TV), and you should use them too. I think their pricing is very fair also.

Really impressed with the electrical work James did for us. We had some uniqueness to our project that no other estimator made us comfortable enough to move forward with.
James explained a few options to consider and was very candid about what would be realistic and most efficient for our eventual usage.
Masks were worn the entire time which we appreciated a great deal with some of our family having been hospitalized (out of state) previously with Covid.
Very quick too without cutting any corners. Highly recommended when you prioritize both quality and honesty.
I reached out several electricians to install a chandelier and many of them believe it requires scaffolding because there is stairway right under the j-box so there's no place to put ladder. Jonathan responded quickly and suggested scaffolding might not be needed. Then James and Kyle showed up on time and finished the job in a little over an hour with extended ladder. They wear shoe cover all the time, and used magic eraser to clear any fingerprints left on the ceilings, fixtures and the bulbs. Very satisfied with the service and highly recommend.

Repeat customer here! We recently moved and asked James to add recessed lighting in our new home. We needed lighting in every room except our kitchen. Once again, James did an excellent job with the installation. He came over the next day after we asked him for a free estimate, and then came back the following day to complete the work. He installed the lighting in 5 rooms, sliding switches, and completed drywall repair in 6 hours. Only had drywall repair in 2 of the rooms. Don't ask me how he does it - I'm baffled that he can do it so quickly and efficiently!
James is honest and quick to respond. No funny business with him. He doesn't overquote you on cans and recommends only what you need and is an expert at figuring out what you need. If we ever move out of San Diego, we'll need to fly him out to do our lights because there is no one else I trust to get the job done. :)
We've had Custom Electric do a handful of projects for us over the past 4 years (adding recessed lighting, adding/replacing fans, installing EV car charger...) and would confidently recommend them to anyone! James is the best. Incredibly knowledgeable with best practices and city codes, super responsive and we've never had a problem with his team's work. We worked with James. Wow so impressed they did a great job adding an outlet and mounting our 75in TV above our fireplace. They were incredibly professional and knowledgeable. They also hid our wires for our sound bar by having them go through the wall. They cleaned up after they left and were very friendly. They also kept COVID precautions and kept their masks on the whole time which we appreciated. We really appreciated that they made time as we inquired last minute and they were able to fit us in that week. They gave us an estimate ahead of time and we will definitely be working with them again.
Really friendly guys. We love our recessed lights. Definitely plan on upgrading other lights around the house.

They did great work, they finished installing 3 ceiling fans, repaired the dry wall and cleaned up in one day.
James and Kyle were amazing! Wow, I was blown away at how much they were able to accomplish for me in my limited time window. And they came out to my place so quickly for me!
***They wore masks the whole time, wore shoe covers on my carpet, and were kind to my little kids. Bravo . Their work was clean, too.

We had James come over to our House. He ended up fixing the light switch and installing several new light fixtures for us. Very nice Guy. We actually ended up getting more done than We originally asked for and James was kind enough to accommodate us. I think we were charged a fair price for all the stuff we had done. I will definitely call these Guys again if I need electrical work done.
We called James on Friday and he fixed our electrical issues on the very next day. He was very polite, friendly and professional. Thank you so much James! We would highly recommend him!

James was more than awesome. He repaired a convoluted electric outlet under a sink, it was quite a job. He also installed a ceiling fan and even reviewed the remote with me. On time, great communication and professional. Can't ask for anything more. Im a few months late in posting this, but I felt that strongly to make sure I reviewed him.
Add me to the list of very satisfied customers. Put in a bid request at about 2:30 PM on a Saturday and James was able to come out and get the job done before 5 PM. Awesome! Had a plug that was under our sink that was fully dependent on the garbage disposal switch and I needed an open connection. Very professional and quick.

James was awesome to work with. We moved into a new house and needed recess lighting and a bathroom remodel and he was a total pro. Finished all the work in a timely fashion. The bathroom ended up being a bit of a disaster as it needed paint too, and they circled back and finished vanity lighting after the paint job very quickly. He even face-timed me off hours to help with some wiring issue I had!
Will definitely use him again in the future.
(Just as an aside - some of the other electricians I contacted through yelp did not respond to me, and some talked to me once and never called back. Seems like business is too good they don't need my money!)
James did an awesome job. He didn't leave until he fixed the electrical issue. He was so professional and super reliable. I highly recommend him for any jobs but specially during an emergency. Honest, resourceful, and smart. Thank you so much!

They added recessed lighting in our living room with dual dimmer switches and did the wiring to hang our TV on the wall. They were quick to reply to our request and quoted what we felt was a fair price. They were on time, clean, and did our job in a short period of time. We were very happy with the job!
I had a problem with a GE dishwasher that was less than two years old. After GE failing several times to order the correct parts, diagnose the problem, and get it fixed, they screwed up again by concluding that the problem was a faulty wall outlet that the dishwasher was plugged into, not their dishwasher itself. So I had an electrician come out to replace the power outlet. James from Custom Electric was AWESOME. While GE was miserably failing at every step of my problem over a series of four visits on four different days, James came to my home once, correctly diagnosed that the problem really was the dishwasher, and fixed it himself. He also thoroughly tested the power outlet to make sure there was nothing wrong with it. He went above and beyond to do simple basic testing of the dishwasher to prove that's where the problem was. I'm amazed that GE couldn't figure out the problem with their own dishwasher, and they didn't provide even half the level of service that James provided. James was very knowledgable about electrical stuff and took the time to test and diagnose accurately, instead of guessing and being lazy, which describes the poor service I got from GE. I highly recommend James and Custom Electric - cool guy, great service, very fair pricing. Thanks James.
I can highly recommend Custom Electric. James and his team were so great to work with. They were quick to get me on their schedule. They showed up on time, they were thorough and communicative on all my needs/expectations for the project. They worked quickly but carefully, they were very clean and efficient. I am just at the beginning of a remodel and will definitely call them for all future projects.
I requested a quote on Yelp and received a timely response, fair quite and they were available on the day I needed. James and his partner showed up early. They did an excellent job replacing a ceiling fan and 3 light fixtures. While speaking with them I mentioned that I had planned to have a handyman come mount my TVs - they said they could help with that service and were available the very next day! Again, they showed up on time and even arranged for a drywall repair man to come as well. I would give them more than 5 stars, highly recommend.

James and Kyle did an awesome job diagnosing the issue with several circuits that were out. They were SUPER QUICK to respond, really knowledgeable and came out the same day within hours of my request ON A SATURDAY! They also quoted the same amount for a weekend day versus a regular day which is amazing! Really nice guys and made the process quick and painless. They even repaired the cover to our circuits for us free of charge and had parts on hand! We're back in business with our electricity again. THANKS GUYS!
We had a really good experience with these guys, and we love our new lights! We inquired on a Monday and James came over that same evening, said Yes on the Wednesday (2 days later), and the next day (Thursday) it was all complete by 6PM !! Easiest project ever!
James came over to give me a quote the same day I inquired on Yelp. Which is great, because If he waited too long, I might have changed my mind about doing this project. It's not like these projects are cheap... I did contact another company on Yelp, but they weren't available for a quote until A WEEK LATER and did not offer any other days. Custom Electric was quick, efficient, and they cleaned up very nicely! Anyone who has done construction/remodel work know what it's like when a does not clean up after themselves.
Custom Electric was able to work with us on the price, so much that we ended up doing both the kitchen AND the living room (when our original plan was to only do the kitchen). We are very happy with their work, and have received multiple compliments from friends and family. What a difference some lights make! We definitely recommend them for some no-nonsense service.

James did excellent work at concealing the cable wiring in an upstairs loft.
I used the Yelp icon to Request a Quote and immediately got responses from 6 of 7 businesses. So Kudos to Yelp for making it seamless to get in touch with contractors!
Custom Electric was one of the businesses who reached out within minutes of the request, and also provided a reasonable estimate.
Cox Cable Contour recently replaced AT&T Uverse as our cable provider, which means we now have traditional, cable wiring instead of wifi. The service is excellent, but Cox doesn't run wiring through walls. Cox did leave enough cable for a professional electrician to finish the job.
James arrived promptly, looked at the job & was done in less than an hour. Instead of splicing the existing cable & adding a connector plate, I asked James to just run the cable directly from its source to maintain a clean, strong signal. His work looks great and the concealed cable looks clean & finished. Thanks to both Yelp & Custom Electric!
So happy my husband and I decided to go with this company. They were quick to respond, matched another competitors price for us, and sent someone out the very same day on the weekend for us literally within a couple hours. It was awesome! Service was great and the lights we needed installed turned out beautiful. Very careful with their work and made sure we were happy with everything before he left. We were even talking about a future project we may need done that is a little more complicated with installing a chandelier on a vaulted slanted ceiling and they really know their stuff! I worked with James from Custom Electric on a breaker/outlet repair. He was extremely responsive when setting up the service repair and very punctual when arriving and resolving it. I will be using them for all my electric repairs and needs going forward.

I told him I'd like to get recess lights in my kitchen as soon as possible and he made time that same week. 10 days ago I submitted a request for service through Yelp and I also submitted one directly through their website. They never contacted me. I'm surprised at all their 5 star reviews ! I hired someone else.
Quick installation on recessed lights. Had 8 recessed lights installed downstairs in about 3 and a half hours. James definitely knows what he is doing. While I think he specializes in lighting, he does other electrical work too. I'm saving this business in my list of San Diego Services for trusted electrician people who can perform high quality house work
James was fantastic to work with. I needed an emergency fix for an issue with the electricity to dryer, and he was able to respond immediately via text and even attempted to show me how to fix it without even having to make a visit. Once we realized the problem was deeper, James made time the very next morning and quickly diagnosed and resolved the problem. I'm super pleased and will be contacting him again soon to get some lighting work done in the near future.

I had James cone out because i was told by Spectrum I needed coax cable installed to upgrade my internet. When James arrived he discovered the house was already wir3d and joined me on a call to Spectrum.to verify everything. He was awesome and only charged me a minimum and I had misplaced a package when he was here and he traced every step we made and found them.for me!

I wanted to give a shout out to James, Kyle and the rest of the team that installed recessed lighting throughout our home. The team was efficient and courteous.
James was great to work with throughout the process from the initial quote, design ideas and his follow up after the job was complete to make sure we were happy with the finished product.
Their pricing was reasonable and competitive with others I reached out to. I have to say one of the things that stuck about Custom Electric was that they came out to the house to discuss our project and design ideas. Other companies simply wanted to deal with us by text or email.
I would highly recommend these guys!

This outfit committed to come over when needed, were on time, fixed the problem with our GFI, then proceeded to fix another lighting problem we've been ignoring, all for a very reasonable fee and goof humor. Wanted to share my experience with Custom Electric SD and let everyone know what a fantastic job James and his crew did in my home. I needed everything...new electrical panel, recessed lighting throughout, dimmer switches, new outlets, etc. I requested quotes from the top 3 companies on Yelp and James beat their prices by over a thousand dollars!!!
Even at the end of a really long day, when it was discovered that the glass on my medicine cabinet was broken, James offered to get me a new one at the local Home Depot and immediately replace it. Which he did. (It should be noted that James and his company weren't the only workers in my home that day.) For me it's not about making a mistake, but the customer service that follows the mistake. Custom Electric SD is spot on.

James and team did a really good job for a really great price. They swapped a number of outlets, switches, and got fans working correctly.
The wore masks and shoe covers as standard practice. They were very quick and everything works. I would recommend and will use them in the future.
Custom Electric has been the trusted electrician for the management company I currently work at for years. Once we tried another electrician (whom was a referral to our boss) and we regretted it immediately and went straight back to using Custom Electric exclusively.

I had James come out and give me an estimate on canned lights in four rooms and a hallway. I also needed a outlet added in the garage. The estimate was sent via email quickly and within a week I got back with James and hired him. He was able to come out quickly and also did all the drywall repair for the areas where electrical lines need to be fished and or run. Would use him again in a heartbeat!!

We had an issue with a plug not working in our laundry room. I had just swapped some patio lights in our house when the switch stopped working. Turns out a wire got loose in a box and that is what caused the wall outlet to stop working.
The electrician was able to troubleshoot the problem fairly quick and get everything working again. I was dreading a crazy wiring job, but that wasn't the case. Thanks for the getting us up and working.

I can't say enough good things about this company! I asked for a quote on a Friday for a ceiling fan light install for Monday and they responded promptly from my Yelp inquiry. As soon as I confirmed that we wanted to hire them, we had an appt scheduled for Monday afternoon.
They arrived early and had the job done within approx 1 hour (including patching the wall/ceiling to match our texture perfectly). They brought all their tools and drop cloths to avoid getting our furniture and carpet dirty. They even disposed of our fan box and vacuumed the area before they left.
I can't rave enough about them! Before they left I was already asking their opinion about future projects and will 100% be hiring them again.
They made the entire process so simple that I was mad it took me so long to get this fan light installed.

Late on a Friday afternoon, I asked if they could come and check out an outlet for safety reasons. With no hesitation, they came out within the hour and switched out the necessary parts. James is absolutely amazing. We had a scary situation where an outlet caught on fire in our living room. Due to safety concerns I turned off our house electricity. I called and left a message for James and he got back to me within a few minutes. Upon hearing my dilemma he agreed to come out and take a look while on his way to another project. Electricians are really busy people so not always easy to get in touch with, and James was no exception. However, once we got in touch with him our project was able to proceed very smoothly.
We got an estimate from him a few weeks ago and he brought his team in to do the work the following week at the agreed upon time. James and his team ended up running 3 CAT6 network drops from a 1st floor location to 2nd floor locations. He also installed a recessed light, a ceiling fan, and created 2 new outlets for us. I appreciated his attention to detail during the estimate to check if we were installing a bidet (we were), and then looking up the spec sheet for the bidet together to make sure no dedicated circuits were needed.
The team did the work efficiently while taking care to cover walkways and work areas so they were protected from the inevitable debris that results. I was impressed by the quality of their workmanship, from leaving CAT6 service loops in the ceiling to the seamlessness of the drywall repair.
James and his team were terrific and I would definitely look to them again if I have more electrical projects in the future.
Needed to fix a fan switch. Called James on Tuesday, fit me in that Saturday. In, fixed, out in less than an hour. Great job, good dude.

While I did not actually get services from them. I am giving the 5 stars because they responded very fast and was able to get me a quote. The only reason I went with another lighting company was because I was offered a better price. I would still keep these guys in mind in the future because of how professional they were when quoting me.
I messaged Custom Electric last night and got a message back ASAP (I didn't realize, because I didn't get an email from yelp) and emailed them this morning and quickly got a call from Jason, maybe two minutes after messaging him! Prompt response! He said he was going to be in my neighborhood this afternoon and would be able to come after! On a Saturday! Yay! He came by and discovered the problem in about ten minutes and fixed it! He is personable and helpful. He didn't mind my questions or me looking over his shoulder. Will definitely use him again, hopefully not because of another power failure. =). He also addressed some other issues I didn't know I had. Awesome job.

I requested a quote to install a new light switch in the bathroom. The original switch was a combo switch/outlet unit to be replaced with a regular toggle switch. I couldn't figure out after multiple tries how to wire everything because there were about 10+ wires in the electrical box. James called me back and I explained to him what I was trying to do. He offered to help me over the phone. I got off the phone with him so I can take some pics of the switch and wires and text it to him before calling him back to continue. He explained to me what I needed to do. I hooked up the light switch using his instructions, turned the electricity back on, and turned on the switch. Bam! First try. It worked.
I'm impressed with his willingness to help over the phone instead of charging me for a visit. That shows honesty and trustworthiness. I will definitely give James and Custom Electric SD my future business if I have any projects. I already have some lined up in the near future such as recessed lighting and ceiling fans. I definitely recommend them. 5 stars!
I contacted customer electric Sd to figure out an electrical problem on a newer air hockey table. James freely admitted that he wasn't sure what the problem was, but would come by and look at free of charge.
Most of the other people I contacted really wouldn't give us the time of day, so I appreciated his at least coming by to check. It turned out to be an easy cord fix.
He charged us his hourly rate and then gave us a $10 discount. I had family coming into town, so it was nice to have the table up and running. I appreciated the quick and timely service.
High quality service, friendly, fast. They responded to my Yelp estimate request within 30 minutes then came to my place later that day for a formal evaluation.

These guys responded very quickly to my quote inquiry. James came out to my house and inspected the outlet and quickly repaired it. His estimate was competitive with others I received, but I was sold based on James taking the time to explain the ins and outs of the project and what would work best for my house. Was very impressed with the Custom Electric team for my ceiling fan repair. The diagnostic work was done logically and explained to me as the diagnosis continued. The culprit was the remote receiver not working properly. The technician offered to go to a local Home Depot to look for the receiver part and came back with the part and finished the installation in pretty quick fashion. Awesome. Wore a mask and was very diligent and knew what he was doing. Will definitely use Custom Electric for my electrical issue needs again. Great job!
I have used James and his team twice now since purchasing my home. They have installed recessed lighting, bathroom light fixtures and an exhaust fan in our bathroom. James is great at communicating which is a breath of fresh air after dealing with other contractors for various home projects that have poor communication and don't stick to deadlines. James responds quickly and I've been lucky enough to have him come to my house the same day I call him. He'll review your needs, give you options and then explain time frame and cost. This is a long overdue review. We had work done almost 2 years ago. We initially wanted just recess lighting done. After some talk, we also decided to get our ceiling fans and light fixture above our kitchen sink changed out- on the same visit. They were professional, efficient and easy to work with! Going to contact them again soon to get my parents house done!
Called Custom Electric SD this Monday evening to get a quote on 3 ceiling fan installs to include running power and installing junction boxes. Texted Tuesday morning that we wanted to move forward with their services. James and Jonathan showed up today, Wednesday right on time and ready to work. They had large tarps to minimize dirty foot prints and all the tools necessary for the job. They also covered all furniture and bulky items with plastic to protect from any dust.
Both gentlemen were very friendly and kept lines of communication open in regards to what they were doing. They were in and out within a couple of hours. James explained the function of the fans and the remote controls which was nice of him. Before leaving they vacuumed any and all debris and left my house as it was if not cleaner.
The ceiling fans look great and you would never know that they did not come with the house originally. Wished I would found these guys sooner... Last guy destroyed my dry wall and did a horrible patch job.

We had a couple of breakers that kept tripping. The breaker box then proceeded to smell a bit fishy, after doing some research it looked like the circuit breakers might be overheated or melting. Texted James on a saturday night and he was able to get back to us with 20 minutes. He arrived, took a look and was able to get our breakers replaced. I needed an old outlet removed from my house. I called around looking for a fair price, and other business' I called were either too busy or wanted way too much money. James gave me a decent price and agreed to come out the same day. His work onsite was great and quick. Would recommend to anyone needing electrical work done. He'll probably be my go to electrician from now on.
I recently completed a whole-house remodel in North Pacific Beach. James and Custom Electric were recommended by a friend and after a consult I had a really good feeling about working with him.
All told, we put in over 40 recessed lights, changed up all the switches, put in central AC, a sauna, and lots of sconces in bedroom and bathrooms, under cabinet lighting in kitchen, and a ton of other things.
James was professional, and courteous, and often made great suggestions for problems that came up or that would have had he not had his eye on the ball. When the GC needed him there, he went out of his way to work late or early around other things to keep everything moving.
Most importantly, he did a number of small things that weren't in the contract because of the size of the job, which was just amazing. He's a great guy to work with

Had 9 LED can lights installed in our kitchen & living room. Took about 4 hours total for them to prep, install & clean-up. They did a great job in putting up plastic sheeting covers & floor covers during the prep. They removed the old fluorescent light bulbs in the kitchen which were hideous. Their install work is of high quality. What a difference having LEDs as lighting. Overall my experience with Custom Electric SD was excellent. I highly recommend them if you decide to upgrade to LED lights. Plus their price is reasonable.

I highly recommend Custom Electric SD with much praise and appreciation! I called the company several months ago, but had to postpone the work until recently. I spoke with James who patiently listened to the items I needed done and was able to give an honest and reasonable estimate quote. He was professional and friendly, and to my surprise, had my info available and was able to accommodate me the same day! I was so grateful because I only had a specific period of time for the work, and James was able to work around it! Thank you! He scheduled Kyle who arrived promptly and was professional, courteous and compliant with COVID-19 precautions, and wore shoe covers as well! His work was meticulous and efficient and clean. In replacing one of the electrical outlets, he discovered one outlet with evidence of being over-burdened! I appreciated that Kyle informed me about it and fixed a problem that potentially would have been dangerous. I contacted Custom Electric SD about removing and replacing three ceiling fans. I had visitors in town to help me take care of my wife who had just gotten out of surgery. My husband tried to move an outlet and unfortunately, it was an unsuccessful. He wired it back to the original spot but for some reason the majority of our electricity was out and we couldn't turn the breaker back on. And of course it's a Sunday and we knew the majority of other electronic companies were closed. I called James to have recessed lighting put in my kitchen and a dedicated electrical line for my microwave. He came out, gave me an estimate, and was able to finish the project all in one day as promised. The new recessed lights look much better. He and his assistant leveled the veiled to get rid of the space where the old fluorescent lights were. They did not repaint the ceiling, but said the could when it dried. I have a painter scheduled to come out to take care of that. They did a good job of taping off the kitchen so most of the dust stayed in there, but the adjacent rooms did get a bit dusty. Just don't clean before a project like this and plan to do it afterwards. I'd hire James again for electrical work.

Tonight around 6pm two of our electrical outlets went out in the kitchen, one that powered the refrigerator. I requested quotes through Yelp and James from Custom Electric SD replied within the hour. We had an estimate for installing can lights in our kitchen, dining room, adding a new light and switch and then replacing a couple of those funky old square ceiling lights from the 70's. The price was pretty high, so I called James at Custom Electric. He came out right away, gave me a better price, had some great ideas and his drywall guy patched the holes for waaay less than another quote I had. James and the team did an excellent job - professional, friendly and they cleaned up afterwards. I only have one electrician now, thank you Custom Electric!
I needed ceiling fans installed in the bedroom and living room of my 1st floor condo, I also wanted recessed lighting installed in my living room and kitchen. The job was not an easy one as there is no crawl space between my unit and the unit above me. I called different electricians for quotes and one electrician never called back, another took a week to call back, another came out but was 50% higher than James price. James called me within a few short hours after I left a voice mail which really impressed me. James came out to do a walk through and talk about what I wanted. He recommended that I get high end fans which I spent more on but do not regret to this day. James sent me a written quote in email and I felt 100% comfortable going with him based on his professionalism and the great YELP reviews he has received. It was a three day job but no matter how long it took, I was not charged more than what was on the written quote. The work was clean, lots of prepping, they covered up the areas with plastic sheeting to protect my furniture and other household and kitchen items. James explained what was going on through the process so I was never in the dark as to what was going on. James went to buy lunch for his assistant who did the drywall patching and texturizing and bought me lunch as well! When does that ever happen??? When the work was completed, the clean up was amazing, no trash left behind, the floor was vacuumed and wiped up. I was smiling the whole night admiring their work and the best experience I've had working with a contractor. On top of all the previous mentioned things that made me happy, James did a follow up call a couple weeks later to make sure I was still happy and that there were no issues.
He was awesome! Gave me a way better deal than all the other electricians I talked to and was available right away. I would definitely hire again.

I work with Calsur Property Management and James is our SOLE electrician for the precise reason that he is absolutely fantastic. He is quick to respond to my calls or texts and very attentive on every job, great or small. Whether he can attend to my tenants/homeowners right away or not, he will usually call right away to at least schedule with them; and that is key when you are the third party in coordinating jobs to get done. My tenants called me in a panic at 9 PM, saying that the power went out - probably due to them running too many electrical appliances at once. My tenant tried to reset the house circuit breaker, but to no avail. I was reluctant to call an electrician as I knew that there would be hefty service fees for the late hour/emergency call, but I had no choice.
At 9:15 PM, we started calling the electricians open 24 hours in the area: most didn't answer. James with Custom Electric was one of the two companies that actually answered the phone. What set him apart was the fact that he suggested that my tenant try resetting the circuit at the main SDGE electrical box by the street. The first few attempts did not work, but he patiently guided us through the process (over the phone) until the power was restored. Talk about fantastic customer service!!!
I am definitely going to call James the next time we face another electrical issue (which will probably be soon since the townhouse was built in the 70s).
Edited to add 12/15/2015: The breaker continued to trip, so James inspected the panel and discovered that the breaker was overheating. He quickly replaced it and we haven't had any electrical issues since!

I am giving this review base on a phone call!!! Why 5 stars you ask ... Because James is the Sh** I called him On a labor weekend on a Sunday night 8 pm!! He picks up. Right off the top sounded real personal. My breaker was out and he walk me though trying to fix it when that didn't work he said he can be here in the morning to fix it told me what kind a breaker I had and told me he could fix it with the part... This guy even FaceTime me to make sure I was reset it right I mean ... What a guy right??? He didn't even end up doing the job but he's service was so great I had to write a review!!!! A Lille update. He came out to replace my breaker and it was so easy ... Well he made it easy this guy is great!! Call him if you have any problems!!!
First time I ever call an electrician, so i did my research for estimates because some of my light switches weren't functioning even after turning the main power switch for the bedroom off and back on. Price was great right of the bat so i decided to go with Custom Electric AD. I requested a quote and was answered same day with estimate so immediately i said let's go for it. Great costumer service all the way, they came immediately went in and got to work, in total took about 15 minutes in and out. Now my lights and ceiling fan are working properly and in time for the summer heat thats coming. Very satisfied, highly recommend, and will definitely call again if needed .
I had a problem with my electrical outlets, and James immediately identified that the problem was one I could fix myself. He told me how to easily fix my problem instead of charging me for a service call, which saved me both time and money. I'd highly recommend Custom Electric.
My wife and I cannot recommend James and Custom Electric highly enough! We recently purchased our first home and due to the way the deal went through we had less than one week to get a ton of electrical and other work completed. We were not even sure such a thing was possible but James absolutely delivered.
James was very flexible with his schedule to accommodate meeting us to quote for the job. During the walk-through of the project we had in mind, James had many great questions and suggestions that we had not even considered which were very helpful.
We really just needed someone to quickly come in and MAKE THINGS HAPPEN which is exactly what James and his crew did. We really are so impressed and pleased with the speed and quality of the work! We had over a dozen recessed lights installed in a very high, sloped ceiling in two rooms, a chandelier hung from a wood beam which required some clever electrical work to hide the wires and new coaxial and network cable run throughout the entire house into several rooms.
Our experience was so pleasant we are already starting a list of minor items around the house and we intend to get Custom Electric back out in the near future to address all these items that we were initially going to do ourselves. Keep up the good work!

James was so professional, kind and amazing! When he heard our organization was a nonprofit, he took that into consideration and gave us a MORE THAN FAIR price for the job we needed. We will definitely be hanging on to his number and using him again and again!
After a nightmare of an experience with our previous electrician (who by the way had gotten paid already but didn't finish the job), I reached out to James. He is responsive, reasonable, and does what he says he will do! He is a professional and it's reflected in his work! You won't get the run around or short cuts with him! He did let us know that the other electrician took short cuts and split wires.... which is really disappointing to hear! I would call and complain but I don't want him back out to try to fix it nor do I want to talk to him again. James installed 5 recessed LED lights in my master bath and installed 4 dimmer switches. It looks amazing, its quality work and it took him no longer than 45 minutes! He works with a guy who does drywall and is even going to patch up the other electrician's drywall holes for us! James has 5 star reviews for a reason... and I was not asked to write a review for him. Honestly, if you're looking for someone who is dependable and will do what they say they will do then seriously stop looking and go with him!
I first contacted James to get a quote over the phone to add recessed lights and junction box for ceiling fans. Despite my small budget, James was more than happy to come out to my home and give me a free in person estimate.
After assessing the job, James not only worked with my budget, he gave me some tips on how I can easily update my existing recessed lights and replace my old outlets. He even told me where I can pick up supplies at a lesser cost. I knew right of way, James is a honest and professional businessman. He is exactly the type of person I like giving my business to. And of course, I was right!
James really takes pride in his craft and do business with integrity. He uses high quality material and pays attention to details. He takes the time to prep work areas so he can minimize dust and debris. Having a small child at home, I can't tell you how much I appreciate that. From what I understand, James is on every job, big or small. James works for himself so he makes all the decisions. No need to deal with workers who have to check with their manager/boss.
The thing I appreciate the most about James is how he values the business you give him, regardless of size. Such a refreshing change! He really goes out of his way to make sure his customers are satisfied.
If you want quality work and reasonable price, call James! I know I will if I ever need electric work done in my home. Thanks to James, my house is bright and beautiful!
I had a great experience with Custom Electric SD installing bedroom ceiling fans. They responded quickly to my yelp quote request with a reasonable rate and were able to schedule me for the day I had in mind. James showed up on time, laid drop cloths, installed the fans, and vacuumed when done. I'm happy to have found a new electrician, will be calling them again to get flood lights installed outdoors.
They got back to me within an hour, and completed the work the same day. Very polite and friendly. Took extra care not to make a mess. Will use again for certain.

Excellent service from James. Very efficient and detail oriented professional. Attentive to the customer's needs, listens carefully and makes clever suggestions when appropriate. Doesn't mind to make alterations to the scope of work on the fly. Installed a bunch of recessed lights in the kitchen, a ceiling fan, a couple of bathroom fixtures, moved a few outlets, all within a day. After the electrical work was finished, patched and re-textured the drywall surrounding the work area - looks untouched. A bit tough to get a hold of, but work quality is top notch and prices are reasonable. Highly recommended.
Great experience using Custom Electric and will definitely recommend them to friends. Easy to communicate with and they provide reasonable price. James and his crew came to our place to install 15 recessed lights on Monday and I am very pleased with the result. They are efficient and certainly know what they are doing.

Had a great experience with Custom Electric. They communicated really well and did good work. The best part was that they cleaned up after themselves and another contractor. I have already put them on speed dial for my rental unit.
Had them install multiple cat6 drops in my house. They were in and out real fast and the dry wall repair looked good as new.

James has done a lot of work on our house. He moved and installed electric outlets, hung our tv over the fireplace and installed recessed lighting in our kitchen. James is very professional and always cleans up after the work has been completed. I highly recommend him.
James did an outstanding job troubleshooting and replacing a faulty breaker that could have caused a lot of damage if left in place, not to mention that he came on a Sunday within 2 hours. We will use Custom Electric and James for our electrical needs in the future.

We bought a house and needed some electrical upgrades, televisions and outlets wall mounted, cable lines run for wireless, ceiling fans installed, new recessed lighting, upgraded switches and outlets, and new outlets installed outside. James easily fit the work in to his schedule and ours! He accommodated all of my last minute changes and requests without any issues. He is very easy to work with and his prices are reasonable and fair. He used his contacts to get us great prices on products. He is very tech savvy and provided us with information via text, which worked great for us. His Helper Carlos has excellent drywall skills and was able to repair any drywall holes that were made as part of the installation. I've already referred him to friends.

These guys are awesome. James and his crew rearranged their schedule to install new recessed lighting and mount a TV/soundbar for me so I didn't have to wait 3 weeks like other electrician companies I contacted. James was helpful in explaining where the best place was to install the recessed lighting and it ended up looking incredible. They completed the whole job in a couple of hours and James even stayed longer to help me get my sound bar to work. Great service! Will definitely use Custom Electric again!
James installed ceiling fans in ceilings with no electrical connection. He worked quickly, no mess, perfect installation. He was really responsive at all times even when I had to change our date to start the job. Will absolute contact again for any electrical needs!

We were working on remodeling and realized we needed outlets before our new cabinets were installed a few days later--James was extremely responsive and able to fit us in the next day. I requested a response from four businesses for a price and date to install a ceiling fan in our master bedroom. Jake was the first to respond to both questions. He even came out on a Sunday to do the job. After he arrived, he showed me that the wall switch needed to be replaced as well. He replaced the switch and the fan in a professional manner for a reasonable price. His friendly personality made for an enjoyable experience. I would recommend him to anyone needing electrical work.
James went out of his way (after hours on a saturday) to come over to the house and check out our electric problem. The laundry room (washer and dryer) outlet went out. We had no power to that outlet. We tried resetting the GFI outlets and checked the breakers, but to no avail. He came over saturday, after working all day on another project, to figure out what was wrong. It turns out that it was a faulty breaker. To help us out, he put in a temporary breaker to allow me to do laundry saturday night. He then came back on a sunday morning to install a new breaker. What customer service and his rates are very reasonable !! I would highly recommend James and Custom Electric. I know that if I ever have another electric issue, I'm calling James.
James came to our house and installed two fans, he was really professional and courteous, he knew exactly what he was doing and was insistent on cleaning up after him self which we really appreciated. He was happy to answer questions and didn't mind our looking on while he worked. Even our dog liked him (an that is saying a lot).

James installed recessed lighting for us before Christmas. He was prompt in returning our phone calls, prompt in arriving the day the work was done (in fact, he was early), the walls and floors of the rooms he worked in were covered thoroughly in heavy canvas tarps and plastic, the work was completed much faster than I thought it would be, and the price was reasonable. He was also very helpful in suggesting a lighting layout and the number of lights for our space. I didn't think we'd need as many as he suggested, but I'm so glad I went with his suggestion because any less and it would have left a dark spot in one area. As soon as he left, I started thinking of other lighting improvements for our home! We will definitely call him for all of our future electrical needs.
I love this company. James is awesome, offering quality service at an affordable price. He pretty much converted my entire home to recessed lighting and I love it. No more fluorescent lights, which is great. Plus, with the lighting he installed, everything looks brighter and my home is way more energy efficient. This week, James returned to mount my 40 inch TV on the wall. It's clear that James pays attention to the details, wanting his work to be perfect. He took great care with the install, even showed me how he added a new electrical outlet for the TV in a spot that is not noticeable when coming in through the front door. He takes time to consider these things, something I wouldn't have thought of. James and his crew did an amazing job on remodeling our kitchen lighting! He converted an inverted florescent light ceiling to a flat ceiling, added LEDs throughout the house, installed a new range hood, changed out outlets and light fixtures and installed dimmers. He really listened to our ideas and added his expertise to enhance what we wanted to do. The project came out far better than what we had originally envisioned. He is very neat and detail oriented. One day, he and his crew had to saw something inside the house. While one person did the sawing, James held a vacuum cleaner next to him to such up the dust as it came off the saw. It does not get any cleaner than that! James was also very patient as I asked for changes to what we had planned even after the original plan was in progress. We kept adding more and more and James patiently took on each additional change. We highly recommend James and already have plans to ask James to do our next electrical project.

James from Custom Electric is a first rate electrician. He put in recessed lighting in the kitchen and bedrooms, installed ceiling speakers and ran wire for surround sound, and did many other electrical jobs in my home. All of his work was exceptional!!! He really has an eye for detail, and made sure that before he cut any drywall, I was completely happy with the placement. His prices were great, and he was perfectly willing to work around my budget. I will definitely use James for all of my electrical work! James is as good as it gets!

I just bought my condo ten months ago after being a long time renter. During this time I've completed a bunch of improvements including new windows, custom shutters, new counter tops, new sink, new faucets, new paint etc. BUT the single most dramatic improvement was the replacement of the enclosed fluorescent lights with recessed can lights in the kitchen and bathroom. The crew of Custom Electric exceeded my expectations with my installation. James, A.J. and Dean are friendly craftsmen who care about doing a good job and making sure the customer is happy-- even fixing my cabinet finish. The drywall work by Dean looks like new and frames the skylight perfectly! A lot of electricians can hook up wires to fixtures but this crew does the whole package at a reasonable rate.
