Not to be confused with Witting, which is basically telling jokes.

They're definitely one of the best companies for making roll up doors, and I think they do a good job with that. I've seen a lot worse, let me put it that way.

I wouldn't say that they are the best of all the roll up doors, but I would say that it's well worth checking out if you need a roll up door, or if you're looking for a company that manufactures reliable and widely used versions of these.

We love our new electric gate! The team at Whiting Iron was a pleasure to work with throughout the entire process. They let me design the exact gate that I wanted, and went over all of the features that I wanted including being able to open and close the gate with my mobile phone. The installation took place in the timeframe that was discussed. The team that installed it were professional and did a great job. When we need some of our smaller gates replaced, we will definitely call Whiting Iron.

I had an awesome door installed in my home. I have received a lot of complements on the door, I will upload a picture if I can.
They were courteous, and professional. I made a mistake about the day they were coming to install it, they re-scheduled it without a problem.
I would like to say that they have incredible customer service, I was not an easy client. I recommend them to any of my friends

Stay away!

No customer service, no returned calls and out-of-the-loop, front-line support staff, talk about a recipe for disaster.

I had an order in for a gate, called constantly to confirm the timeline and installation date. The day before the scheduled installation, I called in the afternoon to confirm it was on schedule for the following morning. Was told unequivocally that yes, the gate was going to be installed and the folks would be out the next morning.

Fast forward to the next morning and nobody shows up to do the install, and the 2-hour window passes without so much as a phone call. Sometime later, I get a phone call from the owner stating that they've got production problems due to outsourcing the powder coating process following their move to a new facility. While they've obviously known about this issue for some time, they didn't bother to let me know about the impact to my order process or timeline, despite NUMEROUS opportunities when I called them (including when I spoke to the production manager personally). Salt in the wound - the install gets re-scheduled for over a week out as a result, but I have zero confidence in them at this point.

I'm sorry, but I cannot recommend a company that fails horribly to communicate not only internally but also with their own customers about production issues and delays. I paid for a product and a service and I have neither the product nor the service to show for it at this point.

And no, for the curious, no offer of a discount or anything else to make amends for this horrific customer service experience, even though I'm a repeat customer of theirs.

I'll happily update this review and raise the rating if they follow through and install the product at some point, but if you don't see an update, draw your own conclusions about whether or not you would do business with people who can't tell you when your product is being installed and won't bother to call you until you've wasted your time.

Wish I could put no stars.  After several attempts, they never got it right.  Spoke several times with the owner, but to no avail.  HOA complained and threaten me over the work done not being within approval.  Have hired another company to correct their poor workmanship.
You would have to be a nut to hire them.
Company should change name to Worse Gates.

Extremely frustrated with our experience with this company. We ordered our gate through Lowe's. Filled out all necessary paperwork, etc. When our gate was done - it was wrong. We ordered a center-mount lockbox and the gate came in with a latch. My husband and the Lowe's guy looked at the paperwork and - sure enough - Great Gates did our order incorrectly. When Lowe's called GG to ask what had happened and to re-order our gate, GG claimed they lost the paperwork. Seriously?? Ya think maybe CALLING THE CUSTOMER WHO IS PAYING HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOR SOMETHING would be a good start? Back to the drawing board. More than a month and a half later, my husband stops into Lowe's to inquire about our gate and the Lowes associate claimed he did not have record that it had been delivered. He went into the back and - guess what - our gate was there with NO PAPERWORK ATTACHED. It had sat there for a week or two!! What's worse was - THE GATE WAS WRONG AGAIN!!! Great Gates put a lockbox on it but it was IN THE WRONG PLACE!!! Despite filling out paperwork TWICE and the Lowe's associate AND my husband going over the entire order IN DETAIL OVER THE PHONE - GREAT GATES GOT THE ORDER WRONG AGAIN!!! It's now been THREE MONTHS since we ordered our SIX HUNDRED DOLLAR GATE and we STILL DO NOT HAVE OUR CORRECT GATE.

I do not recommend this company AT ALL. According to the Lowe's associate, we aren't the only unhappy customer. Associates have been telling store senior management that this is not a good representation of Lowe's core values and they do not like this vendor at all.

*** update It was not even 9am when both my husband and i received calls from the production manager at Whiting/Great Gates. He is coming to our house today for personal attention. I am very pleased with their response thus far and look forward to finally having our gate. Will update later.

Let me just start with saying that we had initially gotten a quote with Whiting Iron last year, but due to budget constraints, we decided to go with the more affordable company. BIG MISTAKE. We went through hell and back with that non-licensed company (Landgrave Mexican Imports = WORST. COMPANY. EVER.). After going through a whole ordeal, and pending court filing, we got most of our money back from Landgrave, thanks to our complaint with the ROC (my review for them is on their page---what a mess!).

We placed an order with Whiting Iron about 6 weeks ago, to include a grand entry door, a double sided gate for our backyard, and a separate, single gate for our doggy area. We were a bit skeptical (due to our prior horrific experience with the other company) and put Whiting through a great deal of questions, concerns, and intense emailing back and forth (again, thanks to the awful experience we had with LANDGRAVE). We just wanted to make sure that this company WAS IT...and, it sure was! :)

From the beginning, Tom, came out and quoted us (again) and made sure we were 100% comfortable with our decision to proceed. He even came out on TWO separate occasions to meet with my husband and myself individually, due to our conflicting work schedules. What a great guy! They promised us our gates and door within a 6-week turnaround. They were ready in 5 weeks! We were simply pleased and ecstatic! The end result speaks for itself and the marvelous work that Whiting truly does. All of our neighbors knew what we had gone through and were all beaming with joy to see how good everything turned out for us with Whiting. In the end, we got a great deal (Tom felt really bad for us due to our experience with Landgrave), and we only paid $1k more to get another gate and high-quality products! We should have moved forward with Whiting since the very beginning!

One thing that I would suggest for Whiting to improve on would be their communication methods, maybe to keep customers posted on which step of the process they're at. Customer service was great, just not as responsive as we would have expected (more so from the designer/blueprint department), but again, it may have been our uneasiness due to our prior experience with the negligent contractor. Regardless, they get 5 stars as a company because they did a fantastic job and it truly reflects in the quality of their work.

We would highly recommend Whiting to anyone who is interested in wrought iron gates and doors.

Thank you, Whiting Iron!!! :)

If you want to see zero results this is the company that you should use.  I had cash in hand ready to pay for the estimate provided but 30 days went by without a call or email back.  I left multiple messages.  I do not know how companies stay in business when they can easily pass up on a $2500 sale.  Don't waste your time with an at-home estimate because that might be the only time you see them at your home

Price isn't everything folks!  If you're looking for great customer service and for someone to answer their phone, look elsewhere!  Save yourself the frustration!  No wonder they had to change their name!  Too many complaints!  Always check with YELP first!  Those people writing the reviews don't lie!

Whiting produces a good looking gate, and for that they are deserving of at least 4 stars.  But apparently it will not honor my warranty, and for that I am deducting 3 stars.

Last June Whiting Iron installed a back gate at my home.  In January of this year (2018), I noticed that the coating on the lower brace of the steel frame was flaking off, and the exposed steel was displaying signs of rust.  The rest of the gate and the gate posts appeared fine. Because the rest of the gate frame was unaffected by the problem, I concluded that the problem was not caused by an external conditions or forces (e.g., rain).

So in mid-January, I called the owner and left a message describing the problem and requested a response.  I received no response.

On February 1, 2018, I emailed  a description of the problem to Whiting Iron.

On February 2, I received a response requesting pictures (which I immediately sent), and the following: We are currently in our peak season and at capacity.  All service calls are put in a queue for when we have availability on our trucks; the lead time is approximately three to four weeks.

On March 5, I sent an email requesting an update as to when I might expect something to happen.

It is now April 7, and still have received no further response from or action on the part of this company.

Caveat emptor!

Whiting iron/Great gates, the owners Trey (Dad) ,Tyler (son), tom (salesman) John ()installer  were all quite good . The quote i received had quality components and it was 28% less expensive than 2 others plus two more. Had one cheaper but did not trust that company and one about the same. had 5 quotes total. I chose whiting because of the salesman Tom he was first contact. I had the attention of all named above, owners Trey was out twice to measure and make sure done right the first time and Tyler followed up with design and of course the installer John and helpers were out a couple time and did a great install, they have great pride of workmanship! Thanks guys.
24 foot dual opening gates (12' each side), 2 liftmaster DC motor automatic openers, powder coated, counsel hinges.  They also recommended masonry people to complete the block columns for gates to be installed on . Everything went exactly as planned and without a hitch. The Gates are beautiful, work well and adds value to property as well as protection. They even had follow up work to be done and that was accomplished in a timely manner without me calling them to get done. In all one of the best contractors i dealt with in building my home for 1 1/2 years. Top Notch  highly recommend. Thank you Whiting iron/Great gates. MVM

UPDATE:  Whiting Iron surprised me this week by calling to say they had the double lock for my gate!  Tyler came and installed it that same day at no charge.  This company does quality work and we are very happy with our gate, I just couldn't give them 5 stars based on the length of time it took to fix the issue we had.  I am very relieved and appreciative, however, that the issue has been fixed!!

Probably the worst customer service experience I have ever had with a company. They really do not care about you after they take half the cost up front. There was no communication and left me feeling like I had been played. I would never recommend this company to anyone. Oh and they installed my gate the wrong way.

Ordered a new iron gate with side panels and added repairs to an existing iron gate.  Salesman was very pleasant,'Tom'.  The scheduling took longer than we liked, but we did get them installed finally.  We discovered a small dent on the new gate a couple days later, so we asked them to remove it and repair it, then replace it, which they did do.  The gates look great.  Tyler, was very helpful in getting that arranged.
Thank you for making the repair.

I wish I would have checked the reviews on Yelp prior to paying money for an RV gate that I still have yet to see after 2 months. I was told it was a 5 week turnaround including install when the quote was written out and I made the deposit. I made a 50% payment back on 3/27 and since then I've been given the run around each time I call. This week I was told I need to pay additional money for block work that was already negotiated at the time of my quote, but can't seem to get a call from ANYONE that can help me resolve things or schedule the block work and install.

I had really high hopes initially during my consultation as the sales rep, John S. was very friendly and personable. However I highly advise against choosing this company. You will have money gone and nothing to show for it if it's anything like I'm going through. I call multiple times a week and get told someone will call me back, in an hour, tomorrow, on Monday when we make the schedule and I get NOTHING. Its ridiculous! Hopefully I'll be able to get a day off and go down to their office in person to get my money back. I've completely lost faith in this company.

STAY AWAY!!

Something strange is going on with this company.  We have used them in the past and always found them to be reliable.  In late December, Tyler the general manager came out to our house to give us an estimate on a security door.  He came out on time, we talked, he took photos and said he'd have an estimate for us later that day.  That day passed.  The following week my wife called.  Whoever answered was apologetic and assured her that the estimate would be provided later that day.  It wasn't.  An additional phone call resulted in similar apologies and assurances, and no result.  I sent Tyler a text message, no response.  It's been three months and to date they never ever provided the estimate.  At this point even if I received an estimate I would NEVER use this company again.  I am a construction lawyer and I know a company in trouble when I see one.

I heard about Whiting Iron/Great Gates after inquiring from my neighbor who did his awesomely solid gate to his backyard. From start to finish, I have been supremely impressed with the skill, professionalism and courtesy exhibited by this company. I had them build two large RV gates, and three smaller people gates. Very solid, sturdy, good looking. I expect them to last as long as I do. They were completed in just a few weeks after design was chosen. I would recommend Whiting Iron to anyone who wants quality at a reasonable price. Thanks again. We love our new gates and the protection and privacy they provide.

Just about a year ago, we had a custom designed security door installed at our house. It looked very nice. But recently, we noticed that the inside door handle was all scratched up (down to the copper below the dark brown finish), even though we seldom use the front door. The door was supposed to be powder-coated, so I assumed the handle would be, too. It apparently was simply painted since a light fingernail scratch removes the coating. We've called Whiting Iron several times (no answer, but we left polite voice mails). We also emailed the company to describe the problem, but we haven't gotten an acknowledgment, let alone a response. Needless to say, we are very disappointed.

I purchased 5 powered coated, synthetic wood gates on 9/17/2014 and had them installed approximately 2-3 weeks later by Great Gates (Whiting Iron, The Great gate Company) They were located in Phoenix but have since relocated to Chandler. Since then I have received numerous compliments from my neighbors and have referred several customers to them.
Sometime around August this year I noticed severe deterioration in the two vertical bars on the gate that leads into my front courtyard. They are completely rusting out.  The other vertical bars and gates are wearing well.  A Great Gate's service tech came to my house on November 6th and inspected them and told me to call John Hanna their production manager. Because the warranty had expired, he said he would have Tyler Whiting, General Manager call me. After 3 days I finally heard from Mr. Whiting. He authorized the replacement of both vertical bars and the work was completed on 11/30/1015 to my satisfaction.
One never knows about a product and the guarantee of a company until something goes wrong and I've come to the conclusion that Whiting Iron, The Great Gates, Inc, sells excellent products and goes above & beyond to satisfy their customers. I would buy from them again and highly recommend this company to anyone.

Sincerely,

George Abernathy

I had a terrible time working with this company. Had them redo a couple iron doors for me on a big remodel. They scheduled with me 3 times to pick up the doors and on the 4th they finally made it out after numerous calls and waiting for them. When I finally received the doors back the install was horrible. They burned the 50k hard wood floors with the sparks from their grinders, installed the hinges so far from straight it was laughable and the welds looked like a kid did them. They send out a guy to fix them and took him over 8 hours of work to try and make them look better. In the quote they stated that the doors needed powder coating. But then let me know they where actually painted. When I received the bill they would not deduct the powder coating but charged me hundreds more because he said they had more time involved then they thought. We ended up settling on a lesser number after numerous go arounds with the owner. Stay away from this company and their bad work.

They don't even deserve 1 star.  After threatening legal action, they finally paid us for the floors that were damaged.  In addition, we had to pay another company $6000 to repair the doors.  This included adding a number of iron pieces to the doors that had gaps, resealing the doors and building a couple awnings/painting.  I wish we had heeded all the 1 star reviews on yelp.  If you're considering using this company, think twice.  There are other companies in town with better workmanship and customer service.

Much to be desired in the customer service realm. I did not enjoy badgering for a install date. Zero communication after installation was complete...I was asked to pay 50% to initiate the order. Unknowingly, my billing information was kept on file and If it weren't for the unauthorized withdrawal from my credit card post installation, I would have thought they completely forgot about me. Otherwise, the gate was acceptable.

We had a great experience with Great Gates! So easy to work with and gate was completed much faster than promised. They were flexible with scheduling and very accommodating. These guys are the best!  Your gate will be hand made here in Phoenix and done exactly as you want it to be.  John came out to give us the pricing and was very competitive.  Its does take them a little while to make your gates, probably 4-6 weeks so if you want something faster beware.  But if your willing to wait for great workmanship go with them.  Best part about them is their installation is fast and extremely clean.  You will not regret going with Great Gates.

I used this company twice last year. First time was for an RV gate and wall extension. They did a great job and the gate is still like new. The install crew was great. The second time...well, well, well... The second crew must of been their worst crew. I ordered an 19' fence with a 4' gate in the middle. I laid out a straight line on the ground with string AND paint. You'd think with a straight painted line on the ground, they could install a straight fence. The portion from the gate to the house was off 6 degrees. If they would of straightened it out, I would of had holes in my house. The section from the gate to the wall was off too, although only on the top(twisted). The portion mounted to the wall was so crocked, I couldn't even believe a install crew would do such crappy work. What where they smoking? I called them and they had a crew out a week later. I brought to the attention of the new fix-it crew that my wall should of had 3x3 posts instead of 1.5x1.5. I asked Jon(their rep) when ordering, about 3x3 and he turned his head and said, like those on the RV gate we install earlier this year? I said yes. Well, the fence showed up with 1.5x1.5 posts. Even the second crew member said that wasn't right. Now I can take my gate and wiggle it back and forth while open. Very cheap. I called three times and no one ever returned my calls. Would I use this company again.. NO! I only gave them a 3, due to the RV gate install being positive.

I purchased double security doors and paid over $2000.  The first time the doors were installed there were several issues with the installation.  I called the office and they sent out a technician, who told us the doors were installed incorrectly and they would need to take them back to the shop.   At the time of the second installation the installer scratched the door at eye level, so it was very noticeable.  When I brought the scratch to his attention he replied that my dogs would scratch my doors worse than what he did.  In order to hide the scratch he sprayed black spray paint on to a small paint brush. In the process of spraying the paint he managed to leave splatters of spray paint on my patio floor and on my daughter's motorized scooter. I asked him not to spray the black paint on the patio because of the paint splatter and requested that he spray it on the grass.  When I went back into my home, he preceded to go behind a pillar on the patio and spray the paint.  I went back outside and told him not to spray anymore paint.  When he left he said someone from the office would call me to schedule an appointment to fix the gaps in the door (the doors had gaps and still do which allows bugs and dirt through), fix them so they are flush, and install the pneumatic closer I had paid extra for.  He also asked me for the final payment, which was half.  I refused to pay until the project was completed.  Great Gates processed my final payment on my credit card without my permission and closed out my account.  I believe it was fraudulent of them to process my credit card without permission.

In the meantime, I have no idea my account had been marked completed and that nobody was going to call.  Over a several month period, I made several calls and left messages with whomever answered the phone. I never received a return call until I called one more time and said I wasn't hanging up until I spoke with a manager.  After finally being transferred to a manager and explaining the situation I was told they would redo the powder coat finish.  The finish was completed and the doors were reinstalled.  However, none of the other items were taken care of.  I called several times again before I could get anyone to talk to and finally an appointment was scheduled for the additional repairs.  When the repairman arrived, I showed him the problems with the doors along with the paint splatters.  The repairman then proceeds to tell me he is actually the owner and he wanted to check out the problems himself.  He guaranteed the problems would be fixed right away.  To this day my double doors are not flush (one door sticks out about 1/4 more than the other), the full weather seal is still not a full weather seal, there are gaps around the door where light can be seen coming through, and I now have screws that have popped out of the door.  Once again there was not a call to take care of the repairs and there was no response to my repeated phone calls.  The only good thing is that there is not one scratch due to my two dogs, so the finish is durable.  DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS COMPANY. THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR WORD OR WORK.

I had an excellent experience with this company. They came out for a no pressure estimate and explained all of my options and the pricing. Then they were patient while I decided and even had them re-quote different styles for me. They under-promised and over-delivered, which is great. They estimated three weeks and my gate was installed in one.

Do Not Use This Company if you want good service!  Tom came out to give me a quote as promised and I paid in full.  After that it was 3 appts with no show and no calls.  After several attempts to reach the owner and always being told he was out of town, I canceled.  I could not get my money returned so had to make a visit to their office.  Girl at front desk is rude and obviously trained to say owner is out of town when an unhappy customer calls.  Was told owner not in but after getting louder with the girl, the owner came out and I was issued my money back.  Will not recommend this company to anyone.

Great Gates did a good job designing, building & installing our courtyard gate & entry door. My wife and I are very picky so there was a lot of back and forth, but they were accommodating. There were a few issues with the quote and our screen, but they were resolved with persistence on my wife's part. They could use some better organization with their process, but overall we would use them again and recommended them to our family and friends.

Really disappointed with this company. After getting 3 bids from various companies, including great gates, we decided to go with them for a few reasons. One they were the cheapest and we liked the presentation done by the salesman Jon. However, after speaking with the other 2 companies who warned us that Great Gates was a little to low and beware, we asked Jon to visit us again to clarify some things. Good thing we did that. First, they had no idea what our window gates would look like and had not done any sketches. He also said the price might change once they had definite drawings of the window guards. Not what we were told. We were given a proposal for a specific window guard and now that might change. Jon then said, before we proceed he would have his designer come up with a design and email them to us in one week.
Three weeks later, no designs. Called the company and was told by Crystal that paying customers come first and we had not put down a deposit so our design would be done when she had time. At that point I said cancel the proposal as potential customers are obviously not very important. They lost out on a $3000+ job. Their lose, not ours.

I am sorry to say, but this company lacks it all - we ordered several gates, production took twice as long as promised, when delivered, one was not as ordered and had to go back - they fixed it, but sloppy work and poor Q/A was apparent all through the process.  After a few months, one gate began showing severe rust problem.  A service rep came out and took pictures and promised to check with the owner what they could do about it - it has now been several months with no follow up.  Conclusion; poor product, poor service, poor quality and they will not stand behind their products.

Great Gates does make beautiful, sturdy wooden & iron gates.  They have been doing a very large job for me, and while it's taken quite a bit longer than anticipated (2 months since we started installation) overall I anticipate being very satisfied with my new gates.  Much of the delay has been due to a few manufacturing errors, compounded by a few installation errors, but the manager I spoke with today has assured me the job will be completed as per our agreement in 2-3 more weeks.
Keep you posted!

Our gate is beautiful.  However, it needs to be moved and the service after the sale is as bad as any company I've ever dealt with.  No return calls and then no show for a scheduled appointment.

Gate looks good but had not functioned write since it was installed.  We called to have them come out and fix it.  But nobody ever shows up to do it....beware.

The install a few weeks ago was done quickly. The installers didn't ask which way I wanted the gate to open (in or out) - it was my first gate, so I didn't think about options. When I told them I would have preferred opening in, they said they would have had to move the hinge or something....  I guess that's why they chose not to ask -- more thoughtful work on their part would have been needed, They started to leave, leaving me with holes and ugly raw marks where they had removed the old gate.  I asked them to do something, so they patched a bit with calk.  It still looks ugly and I'll have to have someone smooth that over properly.  It's like they have too little concern for clean workmanship.  Then, within a few days, I noticed rust along some joints (there had been no rain yet).  One man came (much later than he'd said he would, so I wasn't there to check the work) and painted over some of the rust.  I called again because I still saw rust and he told me that's normal at joints.  Sorry, I don't buy that excuse!  Since then, we had some rain, and the rust is spreading.  If the company does a proper repair, I'll write another review.  So far, I'm waiting to be called back.
