I contacted Matthew for a free consultation to get a quote on pruning many overgrown shrubs. He was able to stop over the same day and took the time to walk the property with me.

I took notes as he told me the best time of year to prune the different types of shrubs, palms, etc. He showed me the plants I could prune now, but I can contact him in the spring for a quote on major pruning. I really appreciated his expertise and now I know how to better care for my landscape plants.

Matthew (owner), responded right away and visited the house within a week. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He spent a good hour walking around the house with me and sharing his knowledge on multiple plants/trees that we have. We agreed on multiple projects for the upcoming future. Great experience and would definitely recommend!

I had Matthew come out for a consultation and an informational walk through of all of the plants in my yard.  He gave me a lot of detail including identifying each plant and providing me with instructions on how to care for them.  Afterwards, we acknowledged that it had been many years since the plants had been properly cut back for the seasons and I also hired Matthew's services to do a full renovation pruning to jump start everything back to it's growth potential.  They were very quick, thorough and cleaned up after themselves.  This was 2 months ago and already I'm seeing a nice, natural regrowth coming in.

I was having a weed overrun nightmare at my house. Had no idea how to control the jungle that had become my front and back yard, tried many at home tricks, but nothing worked. Matthew was a pleasure to work with and made the whole process, from estimate to work completion, smooth and efficient. He offered a fair price for the amount of weeds that I had and also offers a Veteran discount which I truly appreciated as a 10 year AF Vet. I would highly recommend Valley Horticulture Services. This company was exactly what I was looking for! Matt was very professional and understands the importance of plant care, not just cutting things for the sake of cutting!

My front yard needed a massive clean up and Matt was able to get out to my house quickly for an initial inspection and did the work a few days later!

We have now signed up for monthly upkeep with the company so hopefully our front yard doesn't go crazy again! I would highly recommend this company and their services.

I'm updating because when I emailed to cancel my service, I received a reply 2 minutes later of, OK.  That's it.  Now I've done an online review and he answers wth paragraphs.

I think the bottom line with Matt is he knows yards, but if you want to change your service in any way, you're a pain and he lets you know it with his attitude.  Once I hired him, I was made to feel like, Get out of my way, I know my stuff and if you change things, it's a pain.  That's not what I want when I'm a new customer.

When I wrote to cancel, I said, The communication was lacking and it wasn't up to my standard, please acknowledge that you received this.  His answer, literally, was OK.   This just confirmed why I was cancelling and in my opinion, why he's so defensive about my review.  He knows it wasn't the right way to answer my email.

Use him if you'd like, your lawn will look great, just be prepared for the attitude.

Matthew is very knowledgeable and did an excellent job on my yard!  I have used other companies and have not had the amazing results that I received with him.  I will definitely continue to use his company, and would highly recommend him to anyone who asks!

I have a vacation house and hired this company. My yard looks great! He makes maintenance easy while I'm away and communicates by email and accepts online payments.

Valentin came out to our home to help us with a few problems with our garden. He was very professional and cleared up some of the issues that we had. We're happy with the service.

I had a bad experience with Matthew.  He is interested in baking in a lot of money per customer, as opposed to taking on customers to actually help them out.  My evidence is below:

I called Matthew on Thursday, July 24th to ask if I could get a quote on a yard clean up.  He said yes and came out the next week.  Instead of calling me, he emails me a quote with only 2 options. 1) $375 for a major overhaul of my bushes (that I never asked for) or 2) $150 monthly to clean the yard.  (twice a month).  I only want a clean up once a month, and Matthew rejected the business. I might even have paid $150 for once a month.

Make no mistake--Matthew is trying to make as much money per customer as possible--and it is in his interest to do so--not yours.  He doesnt care what you need--he wants those customers he desires.  I've seen that behavior a lot in Arizona, but being originally from the east coast I am used to hard working companies who genuinely want to help you out.

Stay away from Matthew.

I needed some serious yard clean up- trees, shrubs, weeds, gravel mess, etc. Matthew met me quickly after I called and had my yard cleaned up in no time. It was such a treat to come home to such a nice yard! I'm very happy to have found this team.

The owner Matthew was awesome.  He came out and  trimmed my trees and  and cut the brushes and made my backyard look inviting. He gave me suggestion how how to maintain my plants. I definitely recommend his services.

I used VH for first time in Feb after getting coupon on yelp and reading positive reviews. Matthew was prompt on consultant and made solid recommendations on shrub and trees for trimming that I agreed to. He scheduled job right away and job was executed awesomely! I also used his services today for lawn trimming and I'm so happy with results. The property looks 110% better! Thank you so much for your fast, efficient, and skilled services.

I have used Mathew for tree work around my yard and another property that I own.  I have used him for a few years now.  Mathew always does a great job and leaves no mess behind.  He explains things well and has offered to answer any questions that I have in between visits.  I HIGHLY recommend Valley Horticultural!!

Matthew has helped keep our plants healthy and our yard looking great. His education and experience attests to his plant knowledge, and he conducts his affairs professionally. The little things are handled smoothly -- scheduling, billing, and any follow-up notes. He does good work and he's a good communicator -- we've been very happy to have his help. I recommend his firm without hesitation.

Recent;y I needed a yard cleanup and had a few service providers come and give estimates.  All but Mathew & Valley Horticultural Services (a breath of fresh air!) were the typical slash and dash outfits and were hardly even in the running.

Mathew was kind enough to come back and do the job himself because it was so small.  Within just 2 hours he had worked his magic and I was a happy camper.

Here are a few things that made him stand out:
- great Yelp deal / offer
- listened and offered valuable relevant suggestions/solutions
- was honest about services I didn't really need (didn't try and milk the job or upsell me unnecessarily)
- respected my decision to deal with weeds manually (I prefer not to have a lot of chemicals in my/the environment)
- just an all around nice man with impeccable credentials!

My landscaping needs are only occasional/ modest but if I had a larger property I wouldn't hesitate to sign up for monthly service with Mathew.  I'd like to make some improvements in the future and Valley Horticultural Services will be my first call for design review and a quote.

I called Matthew after reading reviews posted here and the praise was well-deserved.  My husband and I have some health issues now and could not keep up with our yard.  Matthew did a fantastic job getting it back in order.  The price he quoted for the amount of work needed was fair and reasonable (notice I didn't say cheap).  The amount of work needed to be done was extensive and labor intensive and he did all of the pruning work himself - no chainsaws or indiscriminate hacking away at my trees and shrubs that other landscapers have done.  In this case, I believe you get what you pay for - Matthew is an arborist so he has the necessary training/skills to do what is best for plants.

Matthew has really helped us out.  I have never had desert landscaping and he knew what every single one of those plants were.  Of course he could have just been making things up that sounded Latin, hmm.  Just kidding, he's kept our yard looking great.  He also helped us at the nursery when we needed to buy new plants.  I would have chosen everything wrong for the sun and heat.  The yard is always evolving so we look forward to working with Matthew for a long time into the future.

We're approaching our one year anniversary with Valley Horticultural, and could not possibly be happier.  We heard about Matthew through a friend, but the service we were using at the time was solid and the decision to make the change was a difficult one. Looking back now, however, boy did we make the right choice.  Matthew goes far beyond the basic maintenance, and really takes the time to ensure that everything is looking its best.  What's more, he has the training to know how to *care* for our plants and trees rather than merely trimming and maintaining them.  The difference in our yard's appearance has been striking.  Plus, he's always doing little things that are really above and beyond that we've come to appreciate. When our son sprouted some sunflowers we asked Matthew where would be a good place to plant them, expecting him simply to point out a good spot.  When we walked out the next day, we found a small section of the yard marked off with inlaid bricks, the soil turned, set up with drip irrigation and ready for the seedlings.  It's just one small example that I think says a lot.  And on top of doing a fabulous job, he's a swell fellow.  Switching our yard service has been one of the best decisions we've ever made for our home.
