HISTORY
Established in 1998.
Originally started in 1998 with a Jeep Wrangler and a mower, my first business name was Chancemows. As the business grew, so did my professionalism. I did anything and everything when it came to landscaping. I changed the name to Rockwell Landscaping and started doing installs, irrigation, rock, plantings, lighting, hardscapes, maintenance, tree trimming, design work, etc. Later on I really found my niche in the maintenance side of things and decided to focus strictly on that. Rockwell Landscape Maintenance was born. We are a small business(3 employees), but continue to grow as our attention to maintenance detail is not spread thin by other aspects of landscaping. By the way, in case you're wondering, Rockwell is my middle name. :)

Hello, my name is Chance Renstrom. I'm the owner of Rockwell Landscape Maintenance. I've lived in Arizona for most of my life, since I was 4, and can't imagine living anywhere else. I graduated from Moon Valley High School in 1991, then moved up to Flagstaff and earned a Bachelors degree in Merchandising with a minor in Marketing. I worked as a store manager at Big 5 Sporting Goods for a while, then did some outside sales work for an aftermarket automotive company. I decided being an employee just wasn't for me. So, I started this business in 1998. I love it! Outside of work, I enjoy going to the dunes, riding Harleys, racing rc cars, and weekend getaways to our family cabin in Flagstaff. My motto, work hard, play hard. :)

I am thrilled by the work done by Rockwell Landscape Maintenance. I contacted Chance because my yards were a mess when I bought the house. There were a lot of bushes and trees to cut back, dead plants to pull out and debris everywhere. Chance was very communicative and quick to respond. The job got done on time and done right for a fair price. I highly recommend this business!

Chance got our yard in shape this past spring and has kept it looking great ever since!
He offers the full service (lawn mowing, shrub trimming, weeding, fertilizing and setting the sprinkler schedule) for a better price and higher quality than the other companies we have tried.
We especially like that he's very responsive via email or text (even when we have lots of questions!) and never misses a scheduled day.

PROFESSIONAL PLUS!! I had issues with a number of landscape companies, especially being out of town and owning a property in Glendale, Arizona. When I hooked up with Chance and Rockwell Landscape Maintenance, it was like night and day compared to ALL the others I have dealt with over the years. Communication was exceptional.
As the property was approaching close of escrow and sale, I had some special needs that Chance rearranged his schedule for. At the commencement of our business relationship, where others did not trust my payment (as I was out of town), Chance made this situation so simple.
Communication was great. Quality of work is, and has been outstanding. I wish I would have found Rockwell Landscape Maintenance and Chance years ago.
My only disheartening concern is that when this property changes ownership later today, the new owners have elected to perform their own landscaping and not to continue the service. Oh well. That is their loss. Perhaps they will come back to Chance once they realize that landscape maintenance takes time and effort in the extreme heat which accompanies residing in the Valley of the Sun.
My advice for anyone reading this review is... if you are in need of reasonably priced and excellent quality landscape service, USE CHANCE AND ROCKWELL LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE. I promise that you will only be disappointed if you do not allow this man and his company the opportunity to bid your project or work.

After many years of disappointing and frustrating experiences with several Landscape companies, I found Chance, and he has truly been a life-saver!
I first hired him to do my previous yard which had a xeriscape setting. He made it look beautiful for almost 3 years. I received many compliments and he was so easy to work with. He returned my calls promptly and worked around my travel schedule.
So when I moved, he was my first call. The new property had a huge lot with tons of (dead) grass, plants, trees. The landscape had been severely neglected and it was a huge project to bring it all back to life. I decided to get a few estimates, but Chance gave me the best quote and he got the job done in just a few days.
He now does a bi-weekly maintenance for me and his price is beyond comparable to other companies. He has worked for me for almost 6 years and I would recommend ROCKWELL LANDSCAPE MAINTENACE to anyone.
They always respond quickly to my calls / texts and Chance pays attention to the little details, which is wonderful. He is also helpful with tips and is mindful of my budget.
So if you need any landscape services, Call Chance! I think you will enjoy working with him. He is reliable, professional, fair, knowledgeable, flexible, and trust-worthy.

I've been using Rockwell for a month now and could not be happier. Chance is very professional, does what he says, always communicates and is basically exceeding any and all expectations. I wish I would have found him sooner!
If there were 6 stars that is what I would have chosen! Chance and his entire staff are extremely professional and knowledgeable. I had many questions and concerns regarding the maintenance and care of my lawn and he addressed every concern and always went the extra mile to help. I will never use another landscaper! I have been spoiled! Oh...and the prices are very reasonable.

We've had Rockwell Landscape Maintenance do our bi-weekly maintenance for over 10 years now. Chance is reliable, professional, consistent and very fair with pricing. He always has good suggestions for ways to improve our yard and he's very easy to work with. I recommend him for any landscape job you have.
We have been fans of Chance/Rockwell from the moment they started taking care of our yard. Chance does a great job keeping our yard looking it's best, is always consistent about showing up, and is very reasonably priced. If you ever need extra work, he finds a way to get it done. Chance is great about keeping us up to date on what needs to be done, and keeping our yard in tip top shape!
Rockwell Landscape was amazing. Incredibly detail oriented, fastidious, and professional. Not only took care of what we agreed to during the initial walk-through, but went above and beyond with the level of work that was completed. We had them do major cut-backs on many of our bushes that had been neglected by the previous owner of the home. A few weeks have passed and our yard looks amazing. Thank you Chance. Would recommend this business to any and all.
Really good overall experience. AMS probably the cheapest option, but their quality was great and Brian's willingness to help me understand everything was amazing.
Had them do a somewhat intensive irrigation repair and lawn leveling job. We had some miscommunication on whether full yard seeding was involved in the quote, but Brian was willing to work with me on price in return. He could have said too bad, but made a point to make sure we were satisfied.
Really impressed overall. Great customer service and their field guys know their stuff

We are thrilled that we learned about AMS Landscaping! Their first visit to do clean up went great. We are very impressed with Jose and Pedro ..... very professional and knowledgeable. We feel confident that our front and back yards will be very well taken care of. Their prices are reasonable and we are so happy that they will be doing our monthly yard service.

AMS is the worst landscaping business we've ever had. Leaves & weeds were left in the yard after the service. The hedges were poorly trimmed. Two bushes were damaged as a result of poor trimming.
I asked AMS to schedule a do over service. They scheduled the do-over and when they showed up to correct what had not been done or had been done poorly, I talked with Pedro about the areas that we were concerned about. After a brief conversation with Pedro, he said I was disrespectful and left.
The yard is a mess.
This service attempted to charge us more than double their quote to remove weeds and trim one tree at our house less than a week before we are renting it. They had ample evidence and descriptions of the project by way of numerous photos and written tasks to base their quote, but still tried to pull a bait-and-switch when they arrived at the house. Despite our desperation to have the work done, charging more than double a quote supported by ample evidence is not a reasonable variation of pricing according to their terms nor the law, so we will not be using this service now nor in the future.

I used AMS 10 years ago and they were bad then. I thought maybe they'd gotten better since they were still in business and I I gave them another shot. They're still bad. All they do is blow leaves against the back fence. If anything more than running a leaf blower is required they don't do it. They'd charge me $150 to do my yard and when they did not do the work they'd offer a $50 discount. So I'd still pay $100 for nothing to get done. I spent $700 replanting everything that died during the couple months that I used them.

DO NOT USE THESE GUYS! Winter reseeding is so simple, yet they managed to make it a nightmare. The crew mistakenly set up my drip system to run 5 times a day for a week, along with the sprinkler system and now my drip system won't stop dripping water. I will likely lose some of my plants.
When I realized the issue I reached out to them and they sent a crew to take a look and they confirmed that they mistakenly set up my Zone 1 (drip) along with the rest of my sprinklers and that now a Valve was not functioning correctly.
I followed up for weeks and was passed on from one person to the next. Finally heard from a manager who was so rude! They don't care about customer service and do nothing to make it right. I will make sure to let everyone know never to use AMS Landscaping.
I've used them for years. However, they are not good now.
I called two weeks before last scheduled appointment. They sent a quote. But, scheduled two weeks later. (Ofcourse weeds are gonna grow while you wait). They came to a house, decided it was too much work by one hour. They decided not to do any work, and rescheduled for one week later while raising the price from 350 to 500. I did not complain at this point as their initial quote is just an estimate. I noted some concern, that they should have atleast started the job, or considered that weeds grow when it rains. But, I was willing to let it slide.
A week later, during rescheduled appearance. Kyle came to my house and said the gate was locked. (It was NOT LOCKED, though I was not 100% certain at the time) I was at work at a meeting, they couldn't wait 10 minutes to talk to me on they phone (even though they also had the whole front yard to do as well). They forced a reschedule again. I am pissed at this point as I need my yard cleaned up before it gets worse. This was their second chance so I left the first version of the review at this point.
Their office then said they would come back and fix it by the end of the day. I took off work to ensure gate was open (And it was the whole time). Then, after saying they would fix it, they recscinded their offer and that they weren't going to come and clean up my yard because of the negative review I had written (I had already given them 2 chances, and I would have retracted it if they made it right), and because I made their employee feel uncomfortable. (I did not call him anything derogatory). It was on the phone and it was one sentence paraphrased below with curse words not in shown.
Bugger off, this is bloody ridiculous After they cancelled working on my yard twice due to their own incompetence. I then hung up, because in my opinion their worker was just trying to be lazy. I then sent an email to their management which obviously did not help as we are here.

My husband and I were using these guys for years but they just lost us as customers. Scheduling and getting yard clean ups has never been a problem (but more on that later), however, scheduling pre-emergent has been challenging to say the least. There has not been a single time where we haven't had to follow up with them to get a date as to when we can expect pre-emergent to be applied since it isn't done the same day as clean up. This most recent time was a whole different story.
We contacted AMS on Nov 30th for yard clean up and pre-emergent. On December 3rd, they completed the clean-up but we still had no date for the pre-emergent. Over the next THREE WEEKS we sent countless emails requesting a date when we could expect the pre-emergent to be done and each time the response was our email being forwarded to Brian, the guy who handles pre-emergent. During this time a second new account was created two times requesting a credit card to be provided despite us being customers for years. Finally three weeks later we received an email saying they forgot that Brian was on vacation. Oddly enough Brian called the very next day saying he would be coming out... this after we told them numerous times that we are done with them and anything on the books was to be cancelled. Stringing us along for three weeks was just too much.
As for the quality of their work... they have a guarantee with their pre-emergent. You'll likely be calling them back again as it has been hit or miss. Yard clean up is also hit or miss. Sometimes they'll be in your yard for 30-45 minutes or sometimes 2 hours like they were this last month (despite charging the same amount). And if you're lucky, they'll leave a pile in the corner of your yard for you to clean up once they're done and an entire side section of your yard untouched.
Kim is definitely the RUDEST customer service person I have had to deal with in a long time. When I did finally get her on the phone she kept interrupting, speaking over me, and hung up to have the last word. We asked to adjust our irrigation and they pulled out things they should not have and our trees are suffering because of it. They crews are decent for the most part except them turning off all water and saying the trees wouldn't be effected, obviously they didn't know what they were doing. But Kim is the icing on a cardboard cake...I cannot believe that she is in charge of customer service. Too many landscaping services in Phoenix to choose from, take your money elsewhere!!!
If you want your yard done right the first time, or the second time USE SOMEONE ELSE.
Browsed through Yelp for lawn care companies and came across AMS Landscaping. Their process was pretty simple, you get a thorough quote but don't expect everything you got quoted to be done the first time around. Everything is online and you have to have a debit or credit card on file.
I had scheduled for lawn service that consisted of things such as mowing and edging, trimming of plants/bushes, and of course the property was to be blown to remove debris.
SO WHAT HAD HAPPENED WAS, the lawn was mowed but it was in every other direction and shape and size! It was not a clean even cut!? Edging was so messed up I think they did it with their eyes closed. And with the blowing away of the debris, oh yeah all the debris from the front yard was blown into my backyard so guess who had to clean up that mess? I DID!!!
I contacted them back via email several times because they never pick up the phone and the lady replied to me back via email and says she will have someone come back and 'fix it', well of course you can't fix everything that's been broken right.
So, two young guys come to the house to try to 'fix' the damage. They were gonna start on the yard as soon as they got there but I went out there to tell them what I disliked and what wasn't done right. One of them snickered and I already knew this was gonna be another unprofessional job. I just went back inside. They mowed the yard and left. Again; no trimming was done and I was still the one to clean up the mess that was left in the back yard.
In conclusion, I paid them for a shitty job.

I had called for a leak in my drip system. They were out within a week to assess. Received the quote and work done a week later. Drip system fixed, new decorative rock placed and 3 new plants. Nice to work with.

Update: I was contacted by the office and they were eager to make it right. I was given a couple of options to rectify the situation. I chose a refund. I do appreciate their willingness to fix things.

I had high hopes about this business after reviewing the photos of yard clean ups. Unfortunately, I feel I wasted my money as I've done the same level of work myself using my own weedwacker and store bought weed killer.
The first time I used them was on March 17th. The quote process and scheduling is pretty easy and painless so no issues there. You also don't need to be present as long as they have access to the area to be work on. This is both good and bad...more on that later.
The agreement was for yard clean up and pre-emergent for future weed control. None of the weeds were actually removed except for especially large stalks. They simply treated them with weed killer. The issue is the yard still had weeds and patches of wild grass throughout but they are all just shriveled and dead. This is nearly as unsightly as before. There were many fallen leaves and twigs remaining because little care and attention were given to that. None of my trees were trimmed. The pre-emergent was never done. They did not charge me for it however, due to the decent amount of rain this spring, I had to call them back for another round a little more than a month later
The next time they were out was May 5th. Same deal. No actual weed or wild grass removal, no tree trimming and no pre-emergent. This time there was a small hole in a side window. I'm certain this is from the weedwacker kicking up rocks. That's the downside of not being present while the work is done. You have no way to prove the damage wasn't there before or after they were on the property.
Sadly, I can't recommend this company nor do I plan to use their service

Absolutely the WORST service. They never complete the service (leave weeds, skip trees, etc), blow rocks and debris into our neighbors yard, have broken 2 sprinklers and a light, left massive holes in the yard after a sprinkler install have charged us extra for services we did not ask for/consent to and in one case told them not to perform. They are more than happy to try to sell me pre-emergent though. Do not trust them with credit card information - they will abuse it. Do not trust them with your yard, customer satisfaction means nothing to them.
I used this company once in April and refrained from leaving this review because the actual guys who came out were wonderful and very kind. However, after using another company and seeing the quality of work for a comparative rate, I have to say I'm very disappointed in my experience with AMS landscaping. While the guys who came out were great, the work was subpar. Leaves were haphazardly blown into corners and never collected, bushes were trimmed unevenly, patches of grass growing in the gravel and around plants were left, weeds were only trimmed and they claimed they sprayed them but the weeds immediately came back. In a pinch this company was alright, but I can't say I will use them again. For almost $400 the quality should have been better.
Correspondence with Eli started off well, and I really wish I could have dealt with him only because I'm sure this would have never ended up where it did.
I was passed on to Heather to schedule an appointment and had initially asked for Thursday or Friday because I had more flexibility those days.
I received an email Monday asking advising they had availability 9am-11am and if I could do that. I responded and said it was going to be tight and needed to leave at 11am for an appointment. I nearly called off the visit for Tuesday all together because I didn't receive confirmation of the appointment until that morning (after what I went through I really wish I had). Heather advised me they could work with my regarding having to leave at 11am.
At around 11am Tuesday, I receive a call from George that he is going to be another 15 minutes and kept asking me to wait.. I explained I had to go to an appointment (and already told Heather this) and they charge me for no shows. I advised George it just wasn't going to work out and to not bother showing up because the whole point was to come up with a plan together. George insisted he was going to come by regardless (against my wishes I might add) and draft up a plan without me there? I'm sorry but that's pretty disturbing. George also wouldn't let me off the phone, I had to hang up on him because he wasn't getting the hint.
I found out later that day George did show up to my property - that is so not ok, I've honestly been fuming since this incident.
To add insult to injury, George texts me asking for my business saying he will give me a 15% discount, yet the special on Yelp was for 20% off.. so he thinks I wouldn't clue into this? The whole experience was just wrong all around.
Later that day I got another e-mail from Heather asking to reschedule for Thursday (of course, now they want to give me the day I asked for). But after my experience with George? Nope and nope.. I responded with my frustration and experience of the whole incident and no one ever got back to me with so much as a sorry.
Well, that was a clear sign this project just was not going to work out with AMS.
