Recently, I had my AC serviced with Intelligent. The guys who came out were not only professional but also very knowledgeable about my unit. They didn't try to sell me up on something which didn't need to be done, and were honest about the issues which did need to be addressed. They even followed up with me and left good contact information should I need anything else even if it was just a question on the work which was done. These guys were great and I highly recommend them to anyone looking at getting AC work done. They offer good warranties and seem to be willing r work with people on anything. I was impressed and grateful for the work they did. Thank you Intelligent!

John came out to look at all the plumbing issues that were highlighted on our home inspection of the house we just bought. He was friendly, explained things thoroughly, didn't pressure me but gave me enough information to make decisions, and ultimately, saved me a lot of money. Their pricing structure appears to be straightforward and honest. I will call them again if (or when) I genuinely do need repairs.

Matt is great! He found the coolant leak in my system immediately and fixed it. He also, free of charge,  insulated some lines that should have been insulated during installation. (A different company installed) I appreciated how he patiently explained everything he did. He really knows his stuff and is really nice and  professional. The total cost was much less than I expected.  I'm really glad I tried this company and will use them again.

Used them to change our faucet and install an RO System.  Encountered many problems. Tech needed our help to remove the  Faucet. We were told the RO system was the best of the best. We got 3 bad units of which they replaced.  Understandable that maybe they got a bad batch of units. The plumber did not tighten up the drain causing leak under sink, did not plug the hole he made for the RO System causing leak,  The first tech was there for 4 days during the week. The first tech put his hand inside my Britta water pitcher as he could not put that back together correctly.  After that I asked them to send a different tech. The second tech did much better and installed the RO system the first time correctly.  The next problem we encountered with that was there was no pricing for the newly installed unit, they just put a swap for a swap on my invoice.  After at least 2-3 calls for the pricing of newly installed unit was told that there was only a $20.00 dollar difference and they had been to our home numerous times. To me that is dishonest , as a business if you owe someone money they should not have to call you.  Next RO system will be installed by Water Tec since they had to go with their unit anyways.  Intelligent reimbursed us close to 50.00 in the end so I guess that paid for the paint and paint brush I had to buy to paint under my sink since after all that it looked bad, they did send someone to verify it was not moldy.

I just moved to Tucson in December 2021. I bought a home where the air & heating system were working, but I knew they would need to be replaced in the next few years. The home also had a cooler which was adding to the draftiness and noise every time the wind blew, (which I learned is quite often in Tucson.) I met with some very fine sales reps while interviewing HVAC companies. Zack from Intelligent Design gave a very thorough presentation that included very impressive testing. Zack's enthusiastic and thorough presentation, along with the products used and product guarantees, sold me on Intelligent Design. Sammy and Steve did the removal and instillation of the new system. They also removed the cooler capping and sealing the whole where it stood. The instillation crew was friendly, respectful of my home, accommodating, and really knew what they were doing. They cleaned up afterwards and installed a top notch system. They did the job in just under 5-hours, and though it was 102 degrees , the house never had a chance to get hot. Kudos to whoever does the hiring. You could have not asked for better people to be in your home. Well done all!

I had a pretty poor experience with this company recently.  We had this company out twice to service our furnace and A/C unit.  Both times I was told they would be performing routine maintenance (ie clean coils, vacuum blower compartment, etc), however, they only performed a visual inspection and strongly recommended replacing my entire unit ($10000-18000).  Our unit is old and probably doesn't have many years left, but it works perfectly now, so I said I would like to keep it running until a problem arises.  They weren't really willing to talk about repair or maintenance options at all.  I got a second opinion with another company today, and they said everything looks fine other than the unit needing a bit of cleaning, which was included in their service fee.  I called their company to discuss the misleading phone conversation where they said they would perform services, and they said the service manager would call me back...haven't heard anything in over a week.  I would recommend going with a different company based on my experiences.

they sent out what appeared to be novice who spent an hour on the phone.  It appeared he was asking questions then told us we had a leak and it would be $489 to fill it up & put in a dye and after that leaked out in a week or so he would return to apparently fix the leak and put in another $500 in Freon.  $1000 to repair a leak is ridiculous.

We have been very pleased with this company, after going to Home Depot and requesting an a/c contractor.  We recently purchased a home that had only evaporative cooling, as well as a propane furnace, and were looking to modernize the house heating and cooling.

The sales person Derrek contacted us and made an in-home estimate, showing us various options and performing a seal test of the house.  He was friendly, polite and not high-pressure!

Within less than a week, we had a crew at the house, installing the system.  They were very thorough and careful to not damage the home, and did not try to rush through the job.  As a matter of fact, when it was getting late, 2 of the crew returned the next day to finish the installation and test the system.  A special mention goes to Dean, who was one of the most polite, helpful and patient guys we have ever met.

We were impressed with how friendly, approachable and down-to-earth everyone was.  They took their time to answer all questions thoroughly and there was always someone checking over the work of their colleagues, to insure nothing was left ignored or unfinished.

The system works extremely well and has made a huge difference.  Yes, you can get cheaper bids from other contractors, but remember that you get what you pay for  - be careful to avoid cheap equipment that will merely malfunction in a couple of years and cost you much more in the long run.

TOTAL RIP -OFF ARTIST ! My elderly mother lives in Tucson, I live in Atlanta. I get a call from this company telling me they can repair her ac for 756.00 . This was at 5:05 while i'm driving home (no time to research) I approved the repairs. At 5:41 they call to get payment. No kidding. It turns out they installed a 42.00 part and some oil the rest was labor. = $1,400.00 per hour.

Our A/C system was installed in July 2021. In Aug 2022 a circuit board failure caused it to stop cooling and days spent waiting for the order.  Last week, June  23 2023 it stopped completely with an apparent compressor failure and now more days awaiting for that part.  The system failures were covered by warranty.  The days of dealing with the heat in the house each year were very  uncomfortable with plenty of time to wonder why we wasted so much money on a 2 year old, top of the line Amana, very expensive system.  Our secondary smaller unit, also Amana, is 13 years old and it saved us by continuing to chug and carry the load of it's more modern and expensive new brother.  Any further failures of this Cadillac HVAC will probably not end well.  But this review is not about an unreliable overpriced hunk of metal, but it is about the technician sent to bring it back to life.
Terry came and checked the Non functioning High End Amana corpse.  He diagnosed a failed Compressor...this is a two year old unit !! we don't use the system during the Winter months,,it is turned off.  So actual usage time is less than two years. In any case, Terry as with all previous Technicians, did a good job and he also went the extra mile by noticing the older smaller unit was not kicking on properly and even though this smaller unit was not included in our maintenance agreement, he tried a repair and it worked.  So, Terry's efforts are what is keeping us reasonably cool despite our fancy Amana being out of commission.  We had to pay for his work on the smaller unit, but it will probably extend its life so we can prepare for a fix or replacement for it at a later time when we can arrange that with the HVAC contractor we've always had for that unit. So thanks to Terry for job well done and as we still await a new compressor for the new unit, we will cogitate about it's future.

We bought an HVAC maintenance plan with them where they are supposed to come every six months, and they have rescheduled with us about five times. The last time we got a call from the technician saying he was on the way at 1 o'clock and I spent the entire afternoon at home waiting on him but he never showed up. I tried to call the office but they transferred their phone lines over to the after hours answering service about an hour before they were scheduled to close, I left a message to speak with the manager. And no one called me back, but surprisingly around 5 o'clock the technician called to see if we were still at home which we were not.
Not reliable at all.

These guys are legit! I had a terrific experience with this company. Our air conditioning went out last month during one of the hottest weeks of the summer. The main fan just stopped spinning. My wife and I watched all the YouTube videos we could find before realizing we were going to need professional assistance.

The rep came out the very next morning. He checked both of our ac units and walked me through, step by step, what he was doing.  The fan and power source both needed to be replaced on the main unit. He went and got the OEM parts and returned within a few hours to complete the job. The second unit still had a little life left on it, so instead of pressuring me to replace it, he offered to return and repair whenever we decided to call. He was very thorough, did a terrific job cleaning both units, and was professional and organized. I felt like I was treated fairly and honestly.

I'm sorry to comment on this, but I'm bothered by the yelpers on here who have complained about being over charged. Anyone that expects to get a free diagnosis, then buy third party parts at cost, and repair the AC themselves is not living in reality. I would challenge you to name one industry, trade, or service that works that way. A mechanic doesn't bring his garage to your home, diagnose your car's problem, and direct you how to fix your car and where to buy the parts. That's not reality. You either pay a bench fee for the analysis and trip out to your home, or you get it as credit toward your purchase. These guys are honest, know their stuff, and a fair. This is a very special skill and they exhibited a fantastic response time. Thank you!

Our A/C went 'belly-up'.  My wife does NOT do well with heat -- she believes anything above freezing is a heatwave.  My options are to either get it fixed (3 hours before it happened) or hear her inferring that the end is near.

Ergo, I called Intelligent Design.  I'd heard their ads on KNST several times and felt they were the kind of people I wanted to do business with.  It was an $89 service charge but they gave me a military discount, bringing it down to $69.00

Jordon was great.  They gave me a time frame and then Jordon called just before arriving.  He was personable, knowledgeable and didn't try to snow me with a bunch of 'bravo sierra'.  I'm not an A/C technician, but I have enough knowledge to know if someone is trying to come up with nonsense to make the bill go up.

Jordon was honest and I had complete faith in him.  In no time the A/C was fixed and at an honest price.

Our A/C needed a part and Jordon was honest about saying, I know that with your knowledge you could replace the part for less money, but he had one on the truck was more than happy to install it if I wanted him to.

The bottom line when evaluating a company, for me, anyway, is to ask yourself if you would recommend a company to a friend or relative.  For me it's an emphatic YES, when it comes to Intelligent Design A/C and heating.

I continue to be dissapointed because I find a new way they cut corners.  The latest I found after having to remove a register to paint.  I heard something fall, when I looked down it was a makeshift bracket to secure the register.  It was attached to the duct with aluminum tape, and was a bent piece of sheet metal.  I do not recommend them, they cut corners.

Very disappointed in this company. I sent a service request via their website and they failed to or were unwilling to respond. I heard about them on K-Love so they were the first company I reached out to. Such a shame.

Elmo and Tenea were prompt and courteous, very professional, wore protective booties inside the house.  Diagnosed problem quickly with several alternatives to repair, including back on the company that first put the system in incorrectly.  Wish I had picked this company from the beginning.

I used this company in November of 2015 to replace an outdoor faucet bib. The company had an advertisement on Angie's List, which was very reasonable.  I had used them before and will continue to use for my plumbing and A/C needs.

The owner of Intelligent Design Air Conditioning and heating called me to apologize for the very poor experience that I had with their tech.  He said that the tech did not represent his company, was with the company only a week, and subsequently was released from his duties.  I felt that Andrew, the owner, was sincere in his apology.  He also quickly refunded me for the diagnosis fee I paid.  I was happy with that because I felt I paid to be abused, but now at least I was refunded.  Thank you Andrew.  One more thing I wanted to mention that the license suspension was for a license not related to air conditioning.  Their license is current and has not been suspended.  So overall, ID was very quick to respond to my call during the hottest time of year, and the people in the office was very nice to deal with.  The tech was out of control, but it sounds like the owner has corrected that situation and has acted strongly to correct any problems.  I appreciate that and wish them well.

I'm very happy with all the work done by Albert. He fixed the leaking fixture in our shower/bath, caulked the tub, changed out our water heater for a new one and power blasted our sewer lines, doing all that work by himself. Everything went well from estimate to arrival times to clean-up. Great work like this is very much appreciated. I wasn't elated over the cost (of course!), but I realize cheap prices often mean poor job satisfaction. Albert was very knowledgable and answered all our questions to our satisfaction. The company is also worthy of praise for the good works it does in the community and elsewhere. I give Intelligent Design my highest recommendation!

We purchased the  20 Seer,  top of the line, Amana Variable Speed System with the electromagnetic filter and UV purification air scrubber. We are extremely happy with the system and service! Our 2000 square-foot house has electric bills through the summer of just over $100 a month! The comfort in our home has been even throughout each room. We are very happy with our system and would recommend it to anyone. The service people have been very professional in dress and manner. They are very knowledgeable, friendly, honest, and they are welcomed back in our house anytime. Thank you Intelligent Design!

If I could give zero stars I would. Horrible company, my mom paid over 22k to have her AC installed and this company did not install a surge protector. My mom's neighborhood had a blackout and her AC did not kick back on (it was only installed 2 weeks ago). Then they charged her another thousand dollars to install the surge protector after she called them back out to complain about it. Do not use this company unless you like getting ripped off!!!

Edited to add that a surge protector was never offered to my mom and the people of this company know that she was absolutely furious when she found out that one wasn't installed as standard practice. With a hefty 22k price tag of the AC installed you would think this business would want to install a surge protector as standard practice to preserve their unit. The consumer paying for your overpriced ACs would certainly want one to protect their new unit, so don't use that as an excuse for why you did not inform my mother that it did not come with the surge protector. Just admit you failed at that, judging by the number of one star reviews on this business I'm sure that was your bad.

My mom made a huge mistake going with these people and she knows that now. I highly recommend Picture Rocks Heating and Cooling as they are a much more honest company with good pricing and we were highly satisfied with our experience with their installation of our own new unit a year ago.

I have been a customer of Intelligent Design for over 5 years and until today have always been treated with professionalism. I'm going to be professional and not post the name of the service  guy who stopped by today. (My hope is his manager will contact me.)

The kicker was when we were wrapping up I asked if my husband had questions on the recommendations could he call him (I've always asked this and have always been told absolutely have him call me.) Today I was told in the future you both need to be here. Wow, really??  Also I had to sign acknowledgments of the service but there was no information to read and I questioned this and his answer was you always signed it before I have signed it before because I could see what I was signing.

Our session ended with me saying I don't think we are clicking and he said we aren't I then said I don't want him back at my house  and rather than any kind of apology for his rudeness, he said, I don't want to come back either Wow!!  I guess Intelligent Design has decided to not make customer service a priority.

I'm feeling better because the manager Paul called me and handled the service issue well. He is going to send another technician out to review my systems. I will update my post after the next visit. I'm hopeful!

We just had brand new air conditioning system installed by Intelligent Design.  Dave Farley and the owner Andrew came out multiple times during the estimation process to make sure that our new system will meet our needs.  They did the air flow test to determine the proper tonnage for the house.  We also sealed the duct work and removed the swamp cooler to improve the efficiency of the system and to improve the air quality inside the house (for asthma).  We went with a wifi-compatible thermostat so that we can fix the temperature if our autistic son changes the temperature (he likes to set the heater to 90 degrees or cooler to 60 degrees when he is angry).  They sent multiple teams out on installation day and the installation took only one day even though we have 2 air conditioning units.  Immediately after the installation, the reduction of dust was very noticeable.  Now we no longer need to dust the house every 2 days!  A month later, as planned, Dave came out and did the final walk through.  Even though Intelligent Design is not the cheapest, we went with them because of the confidence we have on the air flow test, the no surprise policy, and the 10 years part and labor warranty.

We returned from an almost week long trip at midnight to a thermometer that read 95 degrees. We left the A/C on while we were gone, to keep the animals comfortable and to be comfortable when we got home. At midnight I was placing to calls to a variety of companies, the majority of which never returned my call after they said they would, and one that called back at 10 the following morning. After sleeping under wet towels, I found an Angies list coupon for Intelligent Design, and decided to give them a try. I received an email promptly at 8am, and called. There were no appointments available for same day, but I was put on the stand by list. Later in the day, I realized I didn't know what would happen if I didn't make stand by (should I make an appointment for tomorrow etc) so I called. I was pleasantly surprised when the scheduler was very patient with my questions, and explained exactly what would happen. Should there not be room for me on the wait list of the day, I would be at the top of the list for the following day. Not an hour later, I received a call from a technician that he was on his way and should be to my home within 20 minutes. True to his word, he arrived 15 minutes later and quickly diagnosed the problem. After fixing it, and making sure it was working properly my bill was drasticaly less than I anticipated. I decided to sign up for the yearly check up (which also meant that I did not pay for the visit today). I get two visits a year (one spring and one fall) as well as a plumbing visit all included in the incredible price. I cannot say enough good things about Intelligent Design and I look forward to using their services in the future.

So after my last review, the owner reached out and he was genuine and truly apologetic for the rude behavior of and tactics employed by the tech. He notified me that the tech was not acting in line with company practices, and I appreciated his sincerity. Not only did he refund me for the service, but he sent a written apology and a gift card for the trouble. He more than made it right, and I will be giving them another shot.

My experience was they did an OK job but nothing to rave about.  They were certainly much better than the horrible experience I had last year with the arrogant and super-expensive Aranda Air [which led me to file a BBB complaint against Aranda Air].  I had angies list service deal that cost sixty dollars.  Mike checked out the ac unit on the roof and topped off the freon.  but he did not check the equipment inside the house other than the thermostat control, which is a very basic unit and has nothing wrong with it

This company is stellar. Polite, punctual and professional. After purchasing our new ac system from them two years ago, they have followed up with system check ups regularly. This is the first time we had the pluming inspection added and have solved several problems.
Jeremy was thorough and detailed and had no complaints as he need his 32 foot ladder! Both Jeremy and Cori were gentlemanly and easy to have servicing in my home.

Nope.
When my AC went out I contacted several different companies looking for someone who could figure out the problem.
These guys were one of two that had free estimates... so that seemed like a good place to start... and they got to me within like 3hrs, all good things.
BUT THATS WHERE THE GOOD STUFF ENDS.
Rob Soza came to my house while I was sitting with a family member in hospice who passed that evening. He talked to my brother and to me on the phone and stated that the breaker was out and he needed to replace it before he could figure out what was up (ok, that makes sense) and that he would cut me a deal and only charge me $450!?!?!!!!
Ok. No.
But maybe he means a part on the AC? A breaker is like $20 at Home Depot... so I called him. OMG, what an a$$. How rude can you be when a potential customer called and asked for clarification? I thought maybe he would understand since I had been at hospice, but no. He was irritated that I thought it was weird to charge $450 to change a breaker and told me I could do it and deal with the 220V electric if it was that easy and that he was giving me a discount because of the amount of work that needed done on my system, which wasn't what he was told when he took the call (it was supposed to be easier somehow).
WTF? REALLY?
So the next morning I called the manager/owner (whatever) and double checked- after all, I had been distracted the day before and I wasn't actually there when he was... Maybe I really didn't understand what Robby wanted to do for $450. They sent me a quote over to change a 60amp breaker that showed $450 in parts waived and $250 in labor!??!!?!?
Again, NOPE.
But it's Friday morning, I'm without an AC, and it's supposed to be 102 on Sunday... so I still ask him to put me on the schedule and the owner/manager guy promises me that the scheduler will call me right back...
NOTHING. NOT A SINGLE PERSON BOTHERS TO CALL!
I waited it out before I posted this... Monday afternoon when Rudy from Mantra Electric (who changed the breaker for $30) has my broken AC pulled off my roof NOT TILL THEN do I get a call from them.
I'm so glad I didn't wait for them to call on Friday, otherwise I would have had to take my family to a hotel for the weekend.

MORAL OF THE STORY: DON'T TRUST A WORD THESE PEOPLE TELL YOU.
If they feel justified charging me somewhere between $250 and $600 to pop a new breaker in (a $30 job by other hands), how much are they ripping you off?

Just an update... because the internet is awesome... in response to the bogus claims by the company.
1. They did not leave and return with a breaker
2. $250 was only to change a breaker
3. Rob was right, the breaker needed replaced to figure out what was wrong... but he couldn't do it and left my family waiting for him to return for 4 days.
AND... Here's my proof... the estimate for the breaker.

I'm serious internet. Don't trust a word that these people say.

We needed some preventative maintenance done on our 14 year old system. Danny came out the next day at the promised time. He took the time to show us the various components that needed replacement, cleaning and adjustment. He then performed the work quickly and professionally, and at what we felt was a reasonable price for the service provided. We should be able to extend the life of our systems thanks to Danny's expertise.

Intelligent Design has provided excellent service to us. Our old HVAC unit failed in July 2017 and they did a fabulous installation including the air handler after we'd tried 3 others without luck. We called them when our air conditioner did not work, along with several other companies for comparison and reality check.   They said we needed a whole new system for a very expensive fix. Two other companies said they can fix it,  and gave us more realistic price, and we hired one who did just that.  We were very upset because of their overselling --by thousands of dollars! Do not recommend.

After my last experience, they did show up to complete the maintenance on my air conditioning units.   They were in need of some repair, so they discounted the repairs to make up for the times that they did not show up previously.  This week one the a/c units was only blowing hot air, so I called them to come out to fix the problem.   I made an appointment between 8 to 11am yesterday.  To my surprised once again no one showed up.   I called the office and talked to the president of the company.   He promised me that someone would be there at 8am today and there would be no charge for the repairs.   He kept his word as the technician was at the house at 8am and he repaired the unit at no charge.   They have redeemed themselves.

I just had Jr. from ID to my condo to fix my ac.  He was knowledgeable, fast and solved the problem.  He also went the extra mile and found that the part was still under warranty, so all I had to pay was labor!!!  Great attitude and super helpful

This company did one thing right they are very quick to respond. After that nothing right. They sent someone out who was Literally reading from his phone on what was wrong with our air conditioning he told us that we would have to completely replace it anywhere from $15-$25,000 and that there was no chance of fixing the air conditioner. I have course called someone out for a second opinion and completely the opposite they had it up and running cost me $100 and that was it I would not recommend this company please do your homework before you use them

I was very impressed with these guys. I requested a quote through Yelp and received a response almost immediately. They arrived on time and were quick in giving me the quote. I scheduled the work for the next day and they did a great job. I had tried to do some work myself beforehand and they graciously fixed my mistakes for me. While fixing my mistakes they instructed me on how to do it correctly, also giving me tips on maintenance. I highly recommend Intelligent Design.

Update: we were having some A/C troubles and we called ID. They came and diagnosed the problem immediately and boy was our unit disgusting! He cleaned it out and recommended further maintenance tips to keep our 17 year old unit going. Another great experience with Intelligent Design!

We had an emergency leak detection situation at my house. I found intelligent design on Yelp and called them . They detect the water leakage in few minutes and fixed very fast. Definitely recommended for anyone with leakage problem and don't want to waste time and money waiting while there's a leak.

It's been a while since the last time I used Intelligent, why? Simple I had a contract with them for maintenance, have system checked for summer and then winter. Well the last time I paid for the maintenance plan, I didn't see or hear from them to do follow up work, or even renew contract. And it's not my responsibility to call them to remind them, which in the past I had to do.
So now it's time to replace my central air, and this company is most definitely not on my list for quotes.

Brent is da man!!! All HVAC companies were booked til Friday (including the one we usually use), but I needed service today! Brent came in with polka dots and butterfly wings and he saved the day.

I received a response right away this morning from the actual owner (Andrew), and Layla helped us at the main office. These guys are awesome!!

Intelligent Design HVAC Service will be helping me out every single time....that's how happy I am!!

We can't recommend Intelligent Design highly enough! From the design of our new air conditioning system through the installation all of the folks were highly professional and a pleasure to work with (special thanks to Brett, our Design Specialist, as well as Dean, Paul, Jeremy and Charlie in installation and service). We have a great new system and a company we will will trust with great confidence. Five stars all the way around!

We no longer found them honest, after using their service for many years, and pleased with it.   Then recently we were given an estimate for plumbing ($1300), decided to get a second opinion, and found that no work actually was necessary.
We had also previously discovered that promised work on our A/C system had not been done as we had been told.
Sorry to end the relationship - but once bitten, twice shy.

The tech, Rob arrived within a few minutes of the advised time and took good care with shoe covers in the house.

The service on the A/C unit was more expensive than I expected based on searching online. However, unlike other companies they showed up when promised and actually performed work on the unit, and when its the middle of the summer in Tucson the people with refrigerant can name their price.

The service they performed worked as advertised.

Note: I agreed to write a review in exchange for a doscount. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Hey fellow desert dwellers, let's face it. It's getting hot and it's only going to get hotter. Time to clean those filters and rev up those ACs!!!
We moved into our house about 3 years ago and were lucky enough to score a big, beautiful house that came with all the upgrades but...we have no idea what to do with them. Pool pumps, water softeners, weird, fancy looking heating and cooling machines, etc. Decided to have Intelligent Design come out to check out the AC, not even realizing they do heating, plumbing, and water softeners.
They did the much appreciated call to confirm appointment and the super appreciated  15 minutes ETA call as well. Kevin showed up all smiles and gentlemanly politeness. My husband could not be home, so I felt bad that poor Kevin had to deal with my glazed-over huh expression for most of his visit. Good guy that he is, made sure to give me thorough explanations of every step and measurement. Overall assessment was that we were all good except for a concern about our unit not having an auxiliary or overflow pan.  He recommended one, but when my husband came home he did say that there is proper drainage (primary and backup) already installed and said it would have been visible to Kevin had he climbed all the way into the crawl space when he inspected the area. Not a big deal in the overall scheme of things.
I did not feel pressured to sign up for any contracts or upgrades. I felt that Kevin gave his most honest assessment and opinions (25 years of experience is pretty reliable in my opinion).  I will definitely be calling to have my water softener checked out next time.
Now if only I could get them to check out my pool stuff...

Now this moronic business is closing out the year and sent me a $3000 bill for WORK NEVER PERFORMED! after being mentally mind fucked by their representative, it took me 6 months to get over their predatory practices. Now they send a bill. How about sending me a check for therapy? At least the billing person, Amy, has a brain and corrected this nightmare. She is awesome. But overall I still think I have PTSD from their representative. I bet he still works there too. His name was Robert, with a weird cultish looking gotee minus the go.

Just got a quote to replace my a/c and will update after the install. But do far it's been first class and they are different and really set themselves apart from their competition. They took the time to learn about me and my situation first, take measurements, inspect home and system before making recommendations. And after they were a good counselor to pick the right system. Like everything else ac has improved in technology but has in complexity too so almost saw them as more of a consultant then sales.  I know Jon too and he is a smart, hard working, all around good guy.

Well, I left a message on Saturday saying I needed a plumber. I spoke with an actual person...left my name, phone numbers, address...told him my plumbing was backed up and I could not use the shower, washer, etc. Sunday I called back a different person answered who was less than helpful...no they do not come out on weekends unless it is a real emergency. By this time I was so unhappy, I am finding someone else. Why else would I call if I didn't need someone!

In a word: ROCKSTARS!!!!!  Wait, should that be two words?  Anyway, my wife and I needed a completely new HVAC system to replace the vintage unit that had become a curse to our environmental comfort at home.  I believe in performing due diligence for all purchases, and especially so when it came to the huge decision that HVAC entails.  After all, most people keep their AC unit for several years, so it is a monumental decision (well, at least for me!).  Having said all that, I interviewed no less than six different companies that were rated as the very best in the Tucson area.  Much to my annoyance, each and every one of the providers insisted on coming to the house to perform variable checks and measurements, followed by nearly intolerable presentations.  EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM.  Sigh.  As it turns out, not only were their visits and presentations vital to the decision making process, but they also proved the distinct superiority of Intelligent Design Air Conditioning and Heating.  Let me explain:  we live in an older house that was built in the 50's.  Most of the providers took a few window measurements and either crafted a magical dollar amount for their services via calculator (without looking at what needed to be done to actually install my new unit -- going from a split system to a package unit), or broke out with a pre-printed PowerPoint-esque speel that had dollar amounts already established for the entire project.  I don't know about you, but I was personally extremely underwhelmed when I realized they were going to charge me the same as everyone else regardless of the level of simplicity or level of difficulty applied to my situation or not (I'm guessing they err on the side of overcharging given the unique nature that is inherent with HVAC installs to be using canned numbers).  Andrew showed up with Intelligent Design looking sharp and wowed with his military precision.  He walked me through the critical decision making steps that are ACTUALLY recommended in writing by the EPA, followed by pressure testing with special equipment to determine EXACTLY what my residence needed.  Why did this matter?  Because others recommended completely new duct work and some suggested my existing ducts must be fine since they were from a time period when steel was used.  Andrew didn't guess.  He demonstrated exactly what was needed, backed up with scientific proof.  On the actual day of installation his guys were on time, clean, polite, and friendly.  In the end, the project was finished in one day and I'm thrilled to report that we are truly grateful that we chose Intelligent Design to guarantee that our heating and cooling needs will be met for many, many years to come.  Give them a chance to standout from the rest, and you will see exactly what I'm talking about.

When one of my AC units stopped working, I specifically chose Intelligent Design (ID) due to the fact that they claim to be a Christian company. I was never told what was wrong with the one AC unit which wasn't working, instead the sales representative for Intelligent Design quoted the estimate of around $20,000 for replacing the two AC units.  He did not go over the units available for purchase, instead choosing to go with two Amana AC units. I would later find out that the loan agency (which the sales representative spoke with, giving them my information over the phone) charged me $39,750 instead of the $20,000 which the Intelligent Design sales representative originally quoted me.  I was told  that ID submits all paperwork electronically so I had nothing physically in front of me until after the fact.  I thought, based on the representative's quoted estimate, that I would be paying $20,000 for the 2 AC units.  When I received the information from the loan company, stating that the loan was for close to $40,000, meaning that the AC units would end up costing me around $65, 000 after 15 years of payments, I was floored to say the least.  I immediately contacted the loan company and asked them to confirm the amount of the loan, which they stated was around $40,000, not the $20,000 quoted to me.  They told me to confirm with Intelligent Design about the amount and then call them back. After I spoke with the loan company, Mr. Dobbins (the owner of ID) came to my home and asked me why I was only authorizing $20,000 of the loan amount to be paid.  I told him that I had no idea what he was referring to and he stated that the loan company was not going to release the amount of the loan to his company until the discrepancy was cleared up and I authorized the full amount to be paid.  I sat down with Mr. Dobbins and told him that I had been quoted a price of around $20,000 for the two AC units although the loan was for almost $40,000.  He brushed past that fact, stating that I had opted for upgrades (apparently an extra $20,000 worth).  I told him that I was not told of any additional costs besides the initial quote of $20,000 and that I was shocked by the cost.  I also advised him that the bedrooms in my home were not cooling, even though I paid $5,000 for Aeroseal and to have the AC evenly dispersed throughout my home.  He did not seem concerned at all and instead called the loan company and told me to speak to them and authorize the loan in his presence.  He then asked me to write two reviews (one on his website and one on the BBC website) favorable to Intelligent Design.  He sat across from me, a single mother, at my kitchen table and waited while I wrote the reviews, then read them before submitting them. I was completely caught off guard and wrote a minimal review, which he then read and posted. He proceeded to do what he referred to as the final inspection which consisted of showing me how to clean and change the filters...he never checked the AC ducts or even bothered to go into the attic where the furnaces and systems are located. Previously, and when his employees were installing the AC units, they took my ladder (I am assuming by accident) which was in the hallway and which I was using to paint my children's room. During his visit to my home, I informed Mr. Dobbins of my missing ladder. He said that he would look into locating it.  Before Mr. Dobbins left my home, he advised me to erase a voice mail he had left for me earlier that day, prior to his visit.  I hadn't checked my message so I had no idea what he was referring to until after he left.  Once he was gone, I checked my voicemail and heard the nasty message he left me which stated that he would take legal action if I didn't authorize the loan agency to release the full loan amount. When I contacted ID a few days later, stating that my bedrooms weren't cooling, and when I requested that they arrange a date and time to remove their product, I received a return call from Mr. Dobbins.  He was furious and again threatened litigation.  He said that from that point on, I would be speaking with his attorney and he threatened that he'd been down this road before and that I would end up paying around $30,000 in litigation and that I would also have to pay his attorney's fees.  I informed him that I did not trust him or his company at that point and that I wanted him to remove him product and honor his guarantee...which is stated on his website and all paperwork.  He said that he wasn't going to remove anything and that his attorney would be speaking with me from that point forward.  He ended the call by stating that he would give me his attorney's contact information, which he never did. I have attempted to call and email him multiple times, asking him either for a date to remove his products from my home or for him to provide me with his attorney's contact information.  Mr. Dobbins has done neither.I have no faith in either Mr. Dobbins or his company.

Called this 24/7 company because my AC went out. Placed my first call at 5:15am, my second call at 6:30 and no tech called back. By 6:50am I contacted another company who was more than happy to arrange my repair. At 6:58 Intelligents tech called me stating they just got the call. That is really disappointing.  I work in healthcare and when someone is on call they know they need to respond timely to requests to work. I do not know how the techs perform but I will not be using this company based on my experience.

I'm really happy with my new AC. Taylor did an excellent job of giving me information about how to make the AC work more efficiently.  Their system of finding any air flow leeks affirmed that my house is sound.  But needed an AC. They put on the unit efficiently and within a few days.  They even let me use a room AC until they could put in the main unit.

Very nice technician but somewhat absurd pricing, at least for AC repair.  After the fact (my fault) and after doing some research, I realized that I got charged $349 for a $30 part and replacing a part that any handyman could have done.  I tried googling the part and couldn't find it.  Turns out on the invoice, they list a description of the part (inline current controller) instead of the actual part (?capacitor) and name for the service (which anyone could find in seconds).  Feel like I dope for being duped.  I understand the need to make a money but charging 10 times for a part is ridiculous.  Labor (about 1 hour) was nearly $150 in addition to the service call.  Doctors don't even make $150/hour and they save lives!

6/8/16:
Thanks for your reply. While I understand the costs of running a business, some markups are unreasonable. This was a weekend call and in this case I think around $300-350 would have been reasonable and adequately covered your company costs and time without gouging the consumer. I uploaded a copy of the invoice.

selling of the new air conditioner was great, installation went smoothly and air worked great September and October turned off for winter. went to turn on heat..nothing happened service call found out a valve had not been turned on. no problem! went to turn on the air in May nothing worked. Called for service again 2 people came out  and after a couple of hours determined I had a leak under ground and and a new line would need to be installed up over the roof and down to the unit, costing almost $6grand. hard $ amount to take and I needed to think about it. My insurance agent suggested I get a second opinion. I found 2 air conditioner specialist and each suggesting moving the unit on the roof. One specialist ran test to try finding the leak. his cost was almost $500.00 but found the leak to be inside the new unit, not underground. Contacted Intelligent design again service manager came out filled unit with needed freon, agreed to order coil unit for inside and replace if needed.  It was replaced they did a pressure check and determined there was no leak underground.  I could have spent the almost 6grand and had a new line and still had the leak or get a second opinion. i feel should be reimbursed my out of pocked expanse to find to find what Intelligent Design should have found the fist time! Of course I have not heard one thing from the company! So as the saying goes my house feels like hell not heaven!

February 3rd we had a scheduled meeting with Zachary.  He came out did an amazing job , evaluating and looking at what we needed for a unit to be installed. We have a modular home so he had to send the Owner a message to see if they had the part . Zachary told us that he should get a response while he was still there as Andrew was pretty fast in these circumstances well Zachary was there for about another 30 minutes and still no response from Andrew. Zachary left with promises that he would get us our estimate by days end or the next day. I called at the beginning if this and was told that someone would return my call. Here it is the 24th 2023 and we have heard not one word from them. For a company that touts a personal touch and high customer service they epically failed and we will NOT be doing business with them.

Recently one of my A/C's died on me.  Since they were both installed in 2009, I didn't want to take the chance of the other dying in mid Summer so I replaced them both.  I've been doing business with Intelligent Design and Andrew for 3 1/2 years (since we moved to Oro Valley).  Andrew & Co. (Jake and Owen) recommended the Amana 16 SEER A/C's with the variable speed (top of the line), which have lifetime warranties for the original owner.  The new A/C's were effortlessly and professionally installed in one day.  I also upgraded the air purification system (Scrubbers) for my home by adding Respicaire air purifiers.  The entire process was effortless, professional, friendly and responsive.  My October 2017 TEP bill was $140; my October 2018 bill was $55--the first full month of operation with my new A/C's.  Andrew & Co. along with Solar Solutions also installed my 8KW solar system, which has worked as planned to reduce my monthly/annual electrical usage.
Andrew has a great team and they aim to please.  I enthusiastically recommend them!!

Andrew helped me years ago with my smart thermostat. Unfortunately, my review was posted as a draft and I just found this out today, so I'm so sorry for the late review. Andrew was so very kind and helpful. Other local HVAC companies weren't as helpful, many companies said they don't work with equipment they don't sell. Andrew personally took my call and helped me when no one else would. I love this company.

Five years ago, we purchased a top of the line Lennox AC system from Intelligent Design. The unit never performed well. I had countless techs come out to try to tweak it. I was told that was not uncommon in the first year or so. Only a few of these techs appeared to be competent and knowledgeable. Some told me that they didn't have the necessary tools for the job and were saving up to buy those.  Then why are they even showing up? Up sell is another big tactic and I started to see so many red flags. We had a huge issue, that was due to wiring a few years ago, so that not their fault, but it took the tech three days to fix it all and he was on the phone with Lennox support most of the time. Learn as you go, I guess.  After putting up with a poorly running unit for five years, the entire thing finally quit over the weekend. I surely wasn't going to call Intelligent Design again, so I decided to call another authorized Lennox dealer in Tucson. My unit needed a new compressor and then it still didn't work correctly. So, the tech went over everything and found several other problems along with incorrect wiring from the install! I asked how the compressor had failed and  he said that an additive that was added to the system back in 2015, that I was told by the Intelligent Design Tech, would make my system run better, could have been to blame. The tech from the new company said that he was surprised that the system ever ran at all! Thankfully, the tech that was here this week was able to get my system up and running in two days and now it is finally running as it should have run five years ago. People just beware of this company and their poor business practices and techs that don't really know what they are doing. Oh, and, Intellingent Design always asks you to give them a good review. And if you do, they offer a bit of a discount or a gift card of some sort. This is how they get their good reviews.

Had our repair person Jake out this afternoon with Omar to replace a UV bulb in the purifier we have in our AC system.  As always, professional appearance, explained what they would do, installed the bulb, reminded me to schedule our fall check up for the AC as bearings will need grease, and I paid.

We have used Intelligent Design since we bought our house in 2015.  Before moving in we had them install a new AC, replace the nasty salt tank water softener and install a Enviro two-stage system.

When reading some of these comments on Yelp, I can't help but wonder if they have the wrong company.  There can always be a few bad apples that need removed.  There also can be misunderstandings and some customers who are out of line.  I've not had any problems with Intelligent Design.

When it comes to water softeners - this is Arizona!  The hardness of the water here is high.  With the filtration system it knocks it down a bit.  It removes the impurities and removes some of the hardness.  You still get water spots, but they are easier to clean off.  The water is softer on the skin, but will never be like it is in other states.  It's still better than the salt being on your skin from the salt softeners.  That water going through our Samsung fridge filter then is about in the 200s.  To get totally clean drinking water, we use a Zero Pitcher, which makes it delicious.  That's Arizona. This was all explained fully to us as we evaluated what system to install.  We also read the literature online and looked at ratings of systems before making our decision.

I recently wrote a review about an experience I had with Intelligent Design, and they were quick to follow up, own where they had missed the mark, and helped me spot a leak in my coil that the AC company provided by my home warranty had missed, saving me a ton! Although my initial experience with Intelligent Design was not the best, they listened to my concerns, and turned my experience around by being honest, genuine and thorough.

I would give them a 4 of 5 for the following reasons:
Price: a 1 rating as this was the worst part of the experience. I was quoted a price of $9132 by Joe for a 5 ton entry level quality Lennox AC and furnace. In talking to the owner Jason, he said they would not be the cheapest and told me others would probably charge about $7200 for the same unit installed.  That is over a 25% upcharge.  I was able to negotiate a price of $8000 for the 5 ton unit.  In fact the unit installed was a 4 ton unit but Joe was unwilling to apply the $200 lower price for the smaller unit so I ended up paying $200 more than what they agreed to which was more than a 10% over charge compared to what Jason said others would charge.  I would guess that actual quotes from others would be even less than what Jason admitted to me they would charge but that is merely speculation on my part.  In addition, I bought a YELP offer for $188 value for $76. The company would not accept that offer deal so I was forced to go back and get my money back from YELP.
Knowledge: 5 Danny who did the service on the old unit was knowledgeable and efficient.  I would have him back to do the service on other units.  He was willing to explain what he was doing and when I demonstrated some knowledge of what he was explaining, was willing to get into some technical details. All work was done well and left spotless.
Installation: 5  Workers were all on time, called ahead and did their work to the highest quality. They did not scrimp on installation, insulation, placement, flushing, proper flashings etc. They were courteous and spent the time needed to do the job right.
Follow up: They included a 10 year warranty on parts and 2 years on labor.  Only time will tell how they perform on that.
Final tally is a 3.666 rating which rounds up to a 4.

My sewage backed up on Sunday around 1pm I called Intelligent Design and they arrived about an hour later. Marty unclogged the line and used his camera to detect a broken portion  of piping causing the damage. Due to scheduling conflicts he wasnt able to repair the problem until Wednesday. The sewage backed up again on Tuesday morning and he came back to unclog it until the repair could be completed.

The repair was completed and exceeded my expectations.  The landscape looks like it was never disturbed despite the huge holes needed to be dug up to complete the job. Marty was very professional and knowledgeable. I was only charged for the final repair and not any of the other call out. This is to me is great customer service and I will keep using them for  my future plumbing and HVAC needs.

Potential Intelligent Design (ID) customers may find this of interest.

As you will see, this review refers to an incident which occurred approximately 7 months ago (My mistake for not responding immediately after the service call). It wouldn't have re-surfaced had I not spoken with a friend, on the East Coast, who has an air conditioning and heating installation/repair business.

We discussed the maintenance agreement which I have with ID, and how it came about. In April, 2015, I responded to an Angie's List offer for a $69 seasonal A/C or Furnace Inspection and up to 2 pounds of refrigerant.
The technician (Daniel V.), who came out was great. He replaced the insulation on the low voltage wiring on both outdoor units (pack rats had eaten). The units were cleaned and thoroughly inspected. He installed safety overflow kits, went over everything with me and showed me where the fan motors (still under warranty) were leaking oil and needed replacement, which he addressed. Everything checked out well as shown in his written report. He ask if I would be interested in a maintenance plan (no hard sell). I agreed to one believing the service just provided was SOP for ID. My friend agreed that it looked as if I purchased a sound plan and the $250 charge for the motor replacements were in the range (near East Coast prices).

I called in December, 2016 for a winterfurnace tune up and requested that Daniel be the Tech. I was told he was no longer with ID. Josef, the technician who came out, explained everything, and was excellent. The units checked out well and I received an e-mail report, indicating that, the next day.

In June, 2017, I called ID to schedule an A/C check up. I asked for Josef and was told he too was no longer there. The Technician who came out, was modestly friendly, didn't say much and explained nothing though I asked him a number of questions. I assumed he was checking everything and would go over a check list upon completion. Bad assumption. When finished, he advised me that he had replaced a Mainline Starter, and an Inline Current Controller. He played with his calculator and announced that the total came to $591 (with the plan discount). Even though requested, he did not provide an itemized price list of the items replaced. I asked for the defective parts, and am glad that I did. He then advised me that I needed additional work, which he could handle for about $2,000. He provided no requested paperwork, but said the report would be e-mailed to me the next day. It never came.
I called your office to obtain a break down of the charges, which were e-mailed to me. The SHVAC3P (Inline Current Controller) was $378, and the SHVAC2S (Mainline Starter) was $213.
When I shared this information with my friend, his immediate response was YOU HAVE BEEN RIPPED OFF/SCREWED OVER.

He helped me go on-line to find that the Inline Current Controller is a Capacitor- Genteq 97F9973-4.5uf + 7.5uf, 440VAC Genteq Replacement Round Dual Run Capacitor (or similar) available from Amazon for $17.30 (free shipping). The family of these, range from the above to approximately $35. The Replacement for the Trane Starter was a Single Pole/1 Pole 30 Amp, 24 Volt Coil Condenser Contactor which is listed as $16.69 at Amazon and less on e-Bay. The family of these ranged from the above to approximately $27.00.

To sustain themselves and grow, all businesses (mine included) must turn a reasonable profit. However, charges of 10 X cost are off the chart. In reading the ID reviews (almost all excellent), I found that some other folks had experiences similar to mine. It would appear that the Technicians, at least some, are free to set their price. If that is not the case, I'd have thought that your office would have flagged it.

I signed the maintenance agreement based on Daniels outstanding job, ID's reputation and that the business was owned by a fellow Vet.That appears to have been a mistake. Maybe a heads up to those considering ID, is in order.

Extreme high pressure salesmen and very high prices. They wanted over $1,000 to clean 10 vents. They routinely will suggestive sell useless and very expensive technology. If you are old and appear to have money... look out! They want to take advantage of you. Beware. Be very Aware.

Service was incredibly fast at a time when it is very hard to get an appointment from a decent HVAC outfit. They said they would arrive sometime that day but we're out in about 30 minutes instead. Less than an hour after they arrived it was fixed, although I will have to see how long the repair lasts.
I have marked three stars because the repair was to locate the leak with dye already in the system, add a leak plugging compound that retails for $40-50 and 1-lb of R410A at $42. The service took less than 1hr including diagnostics and the total cost was $388. Last year, with 3lbs and a complete purge it was $600. I am appreciative of the fast service but the service was too expensive. Now that I have made contacts with Family and D&H I will try elsewhere next time.

Just moved into my house and both toilets decided to stop working.  Reached out on yelp and received correspondence quickly.  Within moments I had an appointment for a lovely representative to be here same day.  He was on time, clean, professional, and quick.  He was super courteous and I would feel comfortable having this company come out again.

Charged me to come out to my house to attempt to rip me off. They told me a should replace my AC unit for $9,000+. After they left, I had someone else make a small repair and put new freon in. For a few hundred dollars my AC has been working great. They may be a big company and available but they are after your money instead of being fair with you.
