My wife and I had been wanting to remodel our kitchen for years. We had saved and budgeted for such a grand expense. Thanks to the stimulus checks, we finally felt that we could take on the financial burden of a kitchen remodel, but we wanted to do it right. We decided that the more estimates, the better.
We got estimates from about 10 different Cabinet & Countertop contractors. The majority of them were fairly pricey. The last estimate we received was from Rudy, the owner of AZ Cabinets and Home Solutions. I had planned on telling Rudy the same thing as we had told all of the other contractors: Thanks for your time, we will get back to you. However, to our surprise, the home visit with Rudy was unlike any of the other estimates we had received. He gave us new ideas we had not thought of for the remodel. He was very knowledgeable and took the time to explain to us the different types of stone for the countertops and wood for the cabinets. On top of it all, Rudy was very personable and likeable, and made the process very easy.
Based on how well the estimate was going, I thought his quote was going to be on the higher side of the spectrum. He let my wife and I browse samples he had brought, while he measured and crunched numbers. When he was done, he showed us the tablet with the itemized price breakdown, and we were shocked to see that his estimate was the lowest that we had been presented with! At that moment, we knew that we had found our contractor.
We gave Rudy a down payment. The understanding was that we would pay a third to solidify the contract, a third upon delivery of cabinets, and the final third upon completion of the project. We set a begin construction date for the following Friday.
The following Friday, as promised, Rudy's crew showed up bright and early and completed the demolition that same day.
We had selected Maple Cabinets and Quartz Countertops. Rudy had the Cabinets delivered and installed early the following week. The following day, the Quartz was delivered and installed as well. As they were finishing the install, my wife decided that she wanted to extend the countertop about 12 inches further than we had originally planned. I contacted Rudy to ask about this, but I feared that it couldn't be done, or that it would add significant cost. Rudy however, was completely understanding; he told me that he would change out the slab for free, he explained to me that customer satisfaction and word of mouth was how he made his money, and for that reason he was happy to make the modification free of charge.
As of yesterday, our kitchen remodel is complete. We had a great experience with AZ Cabinets and Home Solutions, but most importantly, we absolutely love our new kitchen!
