HISTORY

Established in 1952.
Arizona Fire & Water Restoration, Inc. is a full-service restoration contractor. We have a long, proud history of serving customers in the Valley of the Sun. We began business back in 1952 with Warren Book at the helm of what was then W. W. Book, General Contractor. In those early days, our business was building new homes and remodeling existing ones in the rapidly growing population. He worked closely with his son, Lyle Book to help foster his business. Lyle soon redirected the company to become one of the largest full-service restoration companies in Arizona. Since then, Warren and Jane have retired. Lyle became President and the name of the company changed to Arizona Fire & Water Restoration, Inc. to better describe its business focus.

I am thankful and amazed, and happy that the end of this repair is in sight and I can put my house back together.

AZ Fire and Water Restoration, I know your company is busy with a lot of jobs, and you wished you were finally going to be done at my place, but...then I experienced TWO flooding incidents, seriously less than 30 days apart.

From the beginning: there were several subcontractors in my house those first few days. Vincent/Victor..from the environmental company, sorry I can't remember your name, I was so sick with the flu, but you explained everything that was going to happen, who everyone was...it started to make sense and wasn't nerve wracking. Alex was professional, courteous, and very knowledgeable about what needed to be done to dry out my house. I appreciate that he took the time to explain what needed to be done. I had SO Many questions.

Brad had to work with me on the asbestos in the walls mortar and drywall paint in the two rooms. What a nightmare that was!! All this time living here, not knowing I was living along a pollutant. Brad was cool, he helped to cushion the expense that goes along with that environmental abatement, he was so patient while I got frustrated with...everything!!! Just dealing with living at a hotel... Out of a suitcase while the house was being renovated.

Bob Miller! Another One of the good guys, I found him to be fair and kind.  Bob should have been on the project from day one, but he is on the repair side, not the removal side, so when he took charge of the project, it got extra attention, while I was home sick with the flu. The teams worked hard, and I never heard a thing...they worked long hours and full days to put my house back together.

And when the house frickin flooded the 2nd time,  because of an unknown broken pipe, BOB stepped in to help me with my homeowner's insurance company so I didn't have to file another claim. I kind of feel like BOB had my best interests in making things right!

Thanks to Hector and Richard, the two rooms look amazing. The walls are smooth and seamless. You can't tell there was ever even a repair. And the paint job is fantastic.

Mark with Zippity Split Plumbing, thanks for fixing the drain issues.

I hope there isn't a next time, but I appreciate all the work that was completed professionally in putting my house back together.

I waited almost 2 years to review this company.
It was the most stressful aggravation I have ever experienced.
We had a significant flood in our kitchen which was a total loss along with damage in the garage from the water.
The clean up was fine, and when I was approached for them to do the restoration, I agreed. That was a horrible mistake.
They do not answer the phone when you call, having an outside service to leave messages, which were never returned.
Granted, it was during the time of Covid, but the workman ship was sloppy. They abandoned the job for a month, I was told their employees left since the company was so poorly run. They had a difficult time finding contractors. Most of which were subs.
They never cleaned up after leaving each day , all the trash from the kitchen was left on our polish marbel floors. My husband and I spent many days cleaning after them .
They damage our floors , dragging the appliances to the living room, with no protection.  They also left wood glue dripping on a piece furniture and damaging it completely. The garage was a heap of a mess with our new washer and dryer put there unprotected with construction material piled on top.
I could go on, but I'm sure whoever is reading this, gets an idea how irresponsible they were with a total lack of respect they had for the homeowners and their home.
I was able to finally able to settle with Lyle the owner in the end , apparently he had no clue what was going on or did not care.
It was a mess and had I read the reviews I would have not used them .
I do not recommend , in fact if your insurance agents recommend them , do not use.
I hope this helps someone looking to use them , RUN!

My family & I suffered a house fire on March 31, 2019.  As of August 28, 2020 (17 MO. POST FIRE) we have NOT been able to finalize the business relationship we started with AZ Fire & Water Damage Restoration INC. (AFW) on 3/31/2019 due to their abhorrent business ethics.

I would NOT recommend this company to my worst enemy.  Just  for the record, this is the only time I have ever written a negative review, I don't like confrontation, & I stand firmly by everything I have written below.

AFW have dragged the reparation of our home for months, made empty promises to complete work, provided shoddy workmanship that had to be redone various times over, & have basically attempted to charge approx. $30,000 worth of work NOT done to the home before I called them out on this, threatening legal action, in order for them them to take me seriously. Additionally their contents department has lost & damaged personal items collected from my home to clean post fire.
I feel that my family & I have been more than patient & kind with AFW, giving them dozens of chances & ridiculously ample time to finish work, but they have taken this kindness as a sign of weakness they could exploit.

AFW initially promised repairs on home would be done by October 2019,
then this got pushed to before Christmas 2019, then end of the year 2019, then end of February 2020, then end of April 2020...

During the time the company was repairing our home, they had an issue with the 2nd of 3 contractors that were hired to oversee the project. The 2nd contractor, Leonel Campas, was let go from the company sometime in January 2020, &  AFW did not have the decency to let us know. Our house wasn't worked on for months & it took a negative review on Google in February 2020, in order to be assigned another contractor and obtain a meeting with the 3rd contractor, David Brady, and the general manager, Dean Hamilton, of the company to pressure them to finish a job they had been hired to do.

The 2nd contractor has become a scapegoat of sorts to which the company has continuously blamed the mishandling reparation on our home, instead of taking responsibility & trying to rectify their mistakes in a timely matter.

Even though Brady & Hamilton were very apologetic & promised to have the work on the home finalized by April 2020, we had to continually babysit them to finish the work, & we have still not been able to end this nightmare.

By the end of April 2020, the money our insurance company had allocated for our temporary housing ran out & the house was still NOT finalized.  My family & I were forced to move out of the temporary housing and into a hotel, during the beginning phase of the COVID-19 global pandemic. I lost my job as a yoga teacher during the pandemic and was forced to pay for a hotel & food (since we did not have access to a kitchen), placing myself & my family in danger of contracting the novel virus & dipping into my savings for TWO weeks until the house was somewhat hospitable.  Floors had not even been finalized by this time.

I requested that AFW pay for some of these hotel fees I had to incur due to their incompetence, but they outright refused to do so, or accept any kind of responsibility for the significant hardship my family & I suffered due to their negligence & terrible business ethics.

When we finally moved back into our home on May 16, 2020 there were still many things that had not been repaired yet, including NO AIR CONDITIONING on the 1st floor of our home, paint subcontracted to Marcel Painting was incomplete & poorly done, & various other big ticket items.

Work on the home slowly continued after we moved in, with workers often showing up whenever they pleased, without any regard that my family & I were  living in the home, until I demanded another walk through with AFW's general manager, Hamilton, on 6/9/20, in order to beseech the company to finalize work.

We lived WITHOUT AC in the 100+ degree AZ summer for about a week before they finalized installing the AC.  Working with the company that AFW subcontracted to instal the AC has been another headache for us, as the company, Pinnacle Performance, has come out to the home more than a dozen times attempting to resolve issues resulting from poor workmanship.  Another AC company was hired on 8/13/202 by AFW to double check the 1st company's work & the tech that came to the house labeled the Pinnacle Performance's work as ghetto work, & found many issues with the AC. These issues have yet still be to resolved.

This is a SHORT list of specific grievances experienced with this company, but many other things have occurred. As I stated before, I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone & working with AFW has been a complete nightmare.  I would advise anyone who is already dealing with this company to carefully revise line item by line item on their insurance estimate, given AFW's abhorrent business ethics.

On Thursday, June 4th, 2020 we came home to a flooded home due to the toilet water supply hose breaking. I called Arizona Fire and Water to come and do the cleanup. Their reviews seemed rather good. Although we had to relocate to a hotel for the next five days, we felt confident that they would do a good job. We handed over a set of keys for them to use. They told us that they would be using a lock box on our house. On Saturday morning I returned home to pick something up and I had forgotten my keys at the hotel. I called my partner to tell him to call AZ Fire & Water to get the lock box code so that I could get in. To my surprise, they had not locked our home and I was able to enter without my keys. Anyone could have walked right into our home once they were gone. We informed them of their HUGE oversight as well. Upon entering I noticed items missing as well as damaged. They did inform us of damaging our bookcase which was unrepairable, but they did not inform us of other damage.
Once payment came due our insurance company requested verification for overcharged services and materials. AZ Fire & Water would not comply. This information was requested at least three times. Every time they did not respond. One of the fees was for HAZMAT PPE. We were at our home for a few hours before we left for our hotel on that Thursday and did not see one employee of AZ Fire & Water doffing HAZMAT PPE. I work in an industry in which I knows what this is. Jeans and shirts are NOT PPE.
Once they determined that our insurance company would not pay the $1500 overcharges, they came after us for payment. We told them that they had the chance to get paid. They threatened a lien on our home. I expressed that if they tried to do that, we have enough evidence to defend ourselves in court. I had to file a police report for my missing items as well, as they are valuable and very sentimental. They have not to this day replaced our damaged items or compensated us for the items that came up missing.
I would NOT recommend this company.

DON'T USE THIS COMPANY!!!

Like many of you, we experienced damage to our home from the recent monsoon events.

Like many of you, we turned to our insurance company to provide preferred contractors who are reputable.

Unfortunately, our homeowner's insurance company recommended Arizona Fire & Water Restoration.

If you are looking for a like company, don't choose this one!

If you are currently using them, watch them and request details of costs as well as schedule.

My negative report on this company points solely at those in managerial positions and not to guys with boots-on-the-ground.  The coordinator was so wrapped up with company arriving last Friday and staying the weekend that he was in essence incommunicato.  And when did my neighborhood get hammered?  Last Thursday evening, when this guy disappeared off the radar.

The big cheese was a real tool who refused to provide an invoice of the overall costs as well as a description of the scope-of-work for us to ensure that they were indeed doing what they said they would or needed to by the correct protocol.

When their roofing subcontractor showed up, it was an elderly man with two teenagers.

If you need a restoration contractor that will under-perform, then these are your guys.  If you want someone who will provide you information, treat this with the urgency it deserves, and give you an invoice to digest. then go elsewhere.....

AZFW is hands down the worst contractor I've ever worked with and that's saying a lot. It has taken longer to make sub par repairs to a small area of water damage than it did to demo, reframe and remodel my entire home.

They trash talked another local company, saying those big box people won't take care of you, they just want your money. I wish I'd never decided o give the local small business, who's website boasts good moral character and utmost respect for the customer, a chance. Couldn't be further from the truth. Even their employees talk about how poorly they're treated.

It has been 5 months since AZFW was hired for a relatively small job, and despite being fully paid they still haven't completed the job.

They don't return phone calls or emails in any sort of respectable or timely manner. Had I not fought so hard, they would have taken payment from my insurance company without ever starting the work. Each employee I spoke to about it pointed the finger at another employee, telling me it wasn't their job to follow up. Eventually my case got escalated to the general manager, and it became evident where the rest of the employees got their poor attitude and work ethic from. I'd hoped for better service as a result of the escalation, but it was just as bad.

Employees had to return multiple time to assess the job because they kept losing documents. When the work was finally done, the quality was horrible. The wall texture used to make the repairs did not at all match the existing walls. Areas were left unpainted, and paint drips from the ceiling were all over my walls and kitchen. On top of that, they damaged my floors in the process of repairing the walls.

They sent multiple contractors out, who all reported the damage could not be spot treated, and in order to make the necessary repairs, the whole floor would need to be addressed. They kept sending different people out hoping someone could spot treat but no one agreed to that. I had to take time off work multiple times to be present, but that made no difference to them. Despite being told it wouldn't work they sent their master painter out, who had some words about the quality of the management and company in general, to get in and get out per his quote.  He was told to spot treat the floors and ceiling, despite telling them it would not be quality work. The painter himself was very courteous, and felt bad that he couldn't perform the job to his own standards, but to the standards of the people cutting his checks.

My floors are still in a state of disrepair, as are my walls.

Because the company is no longer returning my attempts at communication, I've started the process to file a formal complaint with the registrar of contractors. I've sent pictures and documentation and been advised their license could go under review as a result of their failures to comply with basic board requirements. I hate that it had to come down to that, but what else can I do when they've already been paid, and refuse to hold up their end of the transaction.

So disappointed that this company trash talked another company to get my business, and then did not at all come through in making the repairs. At least the big box company returned phone calls, offered a contract and services guarantee. All AZFW offers is problems.

UPDATE: I received notification from my insurance company that AZFW billed for services not rendered. This began another long cascade of events. At one point they'd agreed to refund my deductible and reimburse the differences in what was charged and what was actually completed.  Several weeks went by and despite having said multiple times the check was on its way. I never received payment. Finally I got an email with stipulations, essentially blackmailing me for my money, staying I could now only have the money back if I didn't post on social media and withdrew my complaint from the contractor. Though weeks ago it was apparently on its way. I, trying to move on, agreed to their terms, and after a manager finally came to see the poor quality of work with no words, they gave me the check. A few days later, they said they would no longer reimburse for the monies charged for service not rendered, and intended to still charge for work that wasn't done, despite including that it would be returned to my insurance company in the agreement for the refund of the deductible. They'd said the insurance company had been contacted, but per my agent, she never heard from anyone.  As frustrating as that was, I don't even have the energy to fight it any longer. At least, as they broke the terms of their own agreement, I intend to post my reviews as I should be allowed to regardless, as well as continue the complaint with the ROC.

I just have no words. It has been nearly 6 months, I still have to repair my walls and have additional damage of their doing, to my floors. I'm no better than I started off, but now with a higher homeowners insurance premium.

This was the first disaster we had to deal with in our home in over 50 years, the biggest mistake we made was hiring Arizona Fire & Water restoration. Please be aware that although the entire company may not be scam artist, a handful of their employees are. AZ Fire & Water falsely over charged our insurance company by $11,434.71 and then tried to come after us directly when the insurance company denied payment. They added to their own estimate things that did not need to be repaired. They didn't even do the job 100% & we had to have another company come in and rectify their mistakes. We are now in the litigation process with AZ Fire and water and I will post again when I have an update.

For any homeowners who EVEN THINK about hiring this company, I would be more than happy to send you proof of everything.  Emails, phone calls, & then Invoices from the 2nd company that stated they had to clean up AZ Fire & waters horrible mistakes.

They are complete frauds. I would stay far away from this company. I WOULD NEVER AGAIN DO BUSINESS WITH THEM AND I WILL TELL EVERYONE I KNOW TO STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM THIS crooked company.

Shame on you Arizona Fire and water restoration.

For context on our experience, we had a hot water heater rupture and flood half of a bedroom and a closet. We called Arizona Fire and Water Restoration Inc for help as per a recommendation from our insurance provider. They came to the house and immediately began assisting with the water that had flooded one general area. The water was removed, and then the drying process began (two fans and a dehumidifier). After a couple of days, they came back to remove the equipment. Upon departure, we were provided a written estimate/quote for the services rendered for $625.00. This seemed fair, given the time and work. We subsequently filled out the survey that came the following day with a positive review.
About 30-days later, we received a bill for $2052. I promptly contacted the company to discuss the discrepancy between the quote or estimate I had been provided vs. the bill we were being charged. The customer
service rep said she would get back to me. Getting back to me constituted them continuing to send the same invoice and me continuing to remind the person sending it to me, of the previous conversation I had had.
Finally, when it seemed no one was paying attention, my husband called and requested to speak to the General Manager, Dean Hamilton.  He was told he would get a callback and didn't. He did speak to the Controller Earny Sweeny, who said he was new but would look into the matter. Again, there was no follow up. Scott sent two more subsequent emails to the controller for some resolution and got no return reply.
Several weeks later (now today), I received a text from the General Manager, Dean Hamilton, whom my husband had tried to get in touch with previously.
He said we needed to call back and pay today. Trying to work from home as everyone is right now, I immediately replied while in a virtual meeting that my husband had already responded and please follow up with him. He couldn't figure out my husband's phone number, so a few more texts ensued. Finally, I had to tell him that my husband was handling this fraudulent charge and to please quit contacting me - to which he replied: If your husband doesn't call me back, you will hear from me again. I immediately left my virtual meeting and showed my husband the texts.
Scott called the number that was texting me, extremely upset, of course. The GM said we needed to pay, and my husband asked about the 325% discrepancy between what they were billing us and what we were quoted. The GM then asked my husband if he understood the meaning of an estimate. My husband asked if this was a typical discrepancy to which the GM asked if we had a homeowner's insurance policy. Not waiting for an answer, he then asked why we weren't just submitting the bill to our insurance company. My husband noted that this was irrelevant and poor business practice regardless of who was paying, to which the GM responded: Oh well, I guess you need to pay the entire amount today, or I am filing a lien on your house tomorrow'. While shocked that a company we thought to be so reputable would treat a customer this way, there was no recourse but to pay the remaining invoice with a credit card. When my husband said he was going to file a complaint with the BBB, the GM responded, that would be fine as potential customers or insurers would only see the complaint was resolved with the customer as the bill was paid.
This is the first negative review I have ever written, on any platform. I have also contacted the BBB.

Use this company!  Plumber noticed a small leak under the kitchen sink suggested another restoration company that they used.  They came out declared it a disaster, wanted to rip out about 10' of cabinets, tile, sink, etc. which my insurance company was willing to pay for.

It didn't sound right to me because it just didn't look like much so I got Arizona Fire to come out for a second opinion and their tech Willie was very proficient with his moisture meter, cut a small hole on the back wall and determined there was very little moisture and a simple fan would do it.  Sure learned something on that one.  I figured these other guys could have run up $25k pretty easily and we would have had a mess for 4-6 weeks waiting for new cabinets.

Highly recommend Arizona Fire.  Oh yeah, not even the best part but no charge!

Terrible contractor who will not complete the job.  I waited for two months for repairs to a patio, roof and fence damaged in a storm. The scheduling was performed by constant lying, i.e. The paperwork must have gone to a junk email account.   I must have talked to them a dozen times but they still wouldn't start the work.

So almost a year later the VP calls my dad asking if he can talk to us about removing the review or changing it.  First of all why would you call my dad.  This happened to us not him.  Second NO We will not update or change the review.  What I will update is the end result. Currently carpets turning black in the areas where your people didn't lay down any covering.  Took us 3 months to pay our $800 electric bill and $300 water bill.  Still not at all satisfied nor will I refer any business.  Your welcome for the update

Here is what I now know from a dear friend and neighbor of ours who recently had a leak from a neighboring condo ruin her bathroom ceiling and cause her bathroom walls to nearly collapse. She turned the matter over to her insurance company  - and her carrier referred her to Arizona Fire and Water Restoration, Inc.

It quickly became obvious that this company is out to milk the insurance carrier for as much money as possible while doing little or nothing to help the homeowner, who may desperately need help!  This company lied, didn't show up, and seems to have billed for things they did not do, left their useless equipment running in her home for days or weeks on end - and it did no good what-so-ever. When she complained, they accused her of all sorts of horrible things, impugned her character, and worse!  This company is, in my opinion, the last company you want to call if you need help in an emergency situation!!

We live in a condo complex with nearly 200 units and have let all the homeowners and the board know of this wretched firm and their potentially illegal and greedy machinations!  My heart felt advice is to avoid this company like the bubonic plague!

If your insurance carrier should refer you to them, get someone else!! Remember the insurance carriers can get kick backs, referral fees and more from these 'referrals'.  Certainly not all insurance companies do so, but enough do this sort of thing, that you must be suspicious of any referrals you get from the insurance company.

As for Arizona Fire And Water Restoration, INC., my friend and neighbor has consulted counsel and is getting ready to sue them for their malicious attack on her character, fraud, and worse!  Their shoddy treatment of her is nothing unusual.  They have done this to may others thinking they will intimidate people into paying them for outrageous bills and services they did not perform at all, or 'remediation they did not even provide! Hopefully their legal defense costs will put them out of business - which is just where they belong, in my opinion.

Do not go for their excellent ratings. These can be faked by friends & associates and other people signing up for a new and fake Yelp account. It's not hard to do.  If you do not talk to previous happy customers, (chosen at random from a list of at least 20-30 people), then don't believe their ratings! NOT ONE WORD OF THEM.  The only reviews you can count on being accurate are, sadly, the bad ones. If I could have given them less than 1 star as a rating (like a negative number of about 10 or so), I would have done so happily!

Frank and his partner came to give an estimate for some leak damage. Frank was training a newer hire and he sounded like a good teacher and was explaining things to him well. They were both very nice and helpful. Frank answered any question I had and made sure to thoroughly explain the process. The estimate was lower than I anticipated. Although they haven't opened up the wall yet or got started on actual work, the process has been excellent so far.

This is the Worst company I have ever done business with.
After nearly 3 months , I have to wash dishes outside with the garden hose because they haven't finished a simple repair.
salesmen from this company came out on march 12th to asses some damage in the kitchen due to a hot water pipe leak.
They were eager to get the job...started by removing my cabinets..piled everything up in the garage which I haven't been able to park my car in.
They don't return calls on a timely basis.
They have excuses about how they are busy and not enough employees.
They have angry and disrespectful employees....one of whom threatened to walk off the job if I didn't stop harassing him about the completion date. He literally said I don't need this and I'll just leave
My house and garage are a mess and I'm literally washing dishes ioneer stile in the back yard.
The management of the company is awful...no coordination with their staff about completing things and they just don't give a S---.
So heads up to anyone out there needing professional restoration work.

I use AZ Fire & Water Restoration on many of my properties, and recently used them for my personal home. These guys are great! Free inspection, and they won't sell you anything that you won't need. They explain things in terms that you can actually understand, and SHOW you what they are talking about! Darren, Tyler, Andrew, Sasha, Jeff, and the whole crew are truly great! They will definitely leave you with a peace of mind. Thank You, AZ F&W!

Arizona Fire & Water Restoration is the company I pull out of my bag of tricks when one of my customers (I'm a local real estate agent) needs to deal with an unforseen emergency like a flood or fire.

I met Jim Doorley from AZ Fire & Water when he was referred to me from JoEllen James at State Farm. Insurance companies deal with these unpredictable events all the time and I've known JoEllen for 10 years; I guess you could say I trust her recommendations completely.

Right away when I met Jim I could tell that he is a great and personable resource for my to have for my clients. I have AZ Fire & Water on my app right now where my clients can access all of my vendors at the click of a button. I give Arizona Fire & Water a BIG thumbs up!
