Scott Kellam is a home grown Virginia Beach native. He has been in the HVAC and Electrical contracting industry since the 1970's when his father and grandfather introduced him to the inner structure of the family business. Inspired by his mentors, he launched Kellam Mechanical from a small home office in 1995 growing his business to a level to require a commercial location in which he built in 2007. His commitment to customer service and quality workmanship are the ingredients to the continuing success of his business. Kellam Mechanical is insured, bonded and operates under state contractros license number: 2705 039134A.

Scott Kellam was born and raised in Virginia Beach.  His passion for the HVAC and Electrical industry runs deep starting in his teens in the 1970's with the family businesses, Princess Anne Plumbing and Kellam and Eaton in the historic courthouse area of Virginia Beach.  He graduated from Kellam High School in 1979, then acheived his college degree in Business Administration from Elon University in 1983.  Community participation is important to him, volunteering on the board for the Virignia Beach Education Foundation and acting as Vice President from 2010 - 2012 and President for the 2012 - 2014 term for the local chapter of the Air Conditioning Contractors of America. Memberships with the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau and Gas Qualified Contractors are also maintained to keep Kellam Mechanical involved in the professional community.

Richard B responded to our request for an A/C issue and not only did he respond quickly, he was fantastic!! He was professional, friendly, and informative. We were so impressed with his service and recommendations I gladly signed up for regular maintenance. It was late at night on a hot July night, and he was sharp and courteous and even showed us several tips to maintain and care for our system to save on bills. I won't use another company and Richard is our guy! We will need some additional work done coming up and he will be who we request. Many places will do the same job, but none will give you the service and satisfaction of Kellam! Thank you Richard and to the rest of your team, thank you for taking care of my family and our home.

I've been very impressed with Kellam Mechanical for three separate requests in the last year - one for a defective A/C circuit board, and recently for both an air duct cleaning and A/C tuneup.  Richard diagnosed the bad board only after a multitude of tests.  Jamie and Shawn were at my home for nearly seven hours with the air duct cleaning and A/C tuneup.  They removed about 16 registers in my house and methodically cleaned the ducts, to include before/after pictures.  On several of them, they repeated the process 2 and sometimes 3 times.  They also chemically cleaned the registers themselves and made them look brand new.  With the A/C tuneup, even though the A/C unit is not very old, Shawn diagnosed that the A/C capacitor had very low levels, which could cause the motor to blow.  He quickly replaced it, and the A/C is running great.  Highly recommend to use Kellam Mechanical for your HVAC and air duct services, you won't regret it.

I just called asking for someone to come out and check my heating problem and before anyone asked me about my issue, they needed me to sign a maintenance agreement or my charges were going to be much higher. Um.... I don't even know who you are as a company and you won't even come out to my house to meet me first? Unbelievable. Where I'm from, a first visit should always be free and then we go from there. I miss where I'm from.

Both my husband and I did research on AC and Heating Companies in our area.  After looking at all of them. We had a couple that we liked and then spoke to each. I have to say KELLAM for the win. Customer service is 5 star. From the initial contact  to the service call. They ask a lot of questions prior to them getting to your house. Making it a very time efficient visit. They really make you feel like you are top on the list.

2010 we had them replace our condenser and blower in our attic. They are very professional and we both thought they really upgraded everything involved. They did an A+ job.  Recently this year 2022 we had them come out and do a check up because we felt that our house was a bit warm due to 100F outside.  They came out on a day and time that is convenient for us and as always 5 star customer service. It was a rainy day and as he came in the house to check the inside he put his booties on to keep our house clean. He spent time really looking at everything. I felt like he really spent time and tested everything. They are also coming back just to make sure that the item that they fixed is working properly.  This is a courtesy call.  They care about the work that they do. So for 12 years we have been very happy with our service.

We had called another company and they said they could not come out for 2 weeks. With 100 degree weather we did not think that was a good first contact. I will not mention the other businesses. Only want to say KELLAM is courteous efficient  and great quality. We will not be changing. And if you find you like one particular technician you can request them every time

I called Kellam to service our new Virginia Beach home as I thought they were an honest company.  My original HVAC tech was very nice and professional.  He was so friendly he tricked me into the one year service plan on my two properties at the one address.  He also told me he needed to order my replacement filters.  He did not tell me they were 30 day filters and he was ordering 5 cases...5 cases...which he charged to my visa without my approval.....He serviced my A/C.last August which was good. Since the property is only 3 years old, everything is practically new so little was needed.  The Office scheduled my Winter inspection. I was unable to be there due to a family emergency but gave the same tech access to my home.  I told him where the keys were for the other unit.  He decided, for whatever reason, that he would come back for the 2nd unit on another day...I paid another bill I was sent.  When it fit his schedule to come back I was at the hospital with my mother (chemo) and offered for him to enter once again without me there.  The office decided I stood him up and though they kept my 940.00 paid for one year...they never serviced my home as contracted because I was at the hospital with my dying mother.
 When I called and asked to speak to the owner...I was told he would call me...but his very rude wife never followed through.  What protects the consumer?  They know this is a vacation home.  Why are they making it so difficult?  I am not impressed.  They seem very crooked.  It is sad.  My hope is someone other than the very unfeeling wife who answers the phone will read this review and make sure that customers are not taken advantage of in the future....you would think a customer with two homes which means two hvac, two generators, two hot water heaters, etc....would be a client they would seek...not steal from

I've used Kellam Mechanical for almost 2 years.  Signed up for the contract service.  Due to two negative experiences with them I have decided to end my service with them and go with another company.  First issue happened after the summer service visit.  1 day after the service visit my AC overflowed and leaked through the ceiling.  The service technician forgot to blow out the drain line.  Kellam Mechanical sent out the service manager and 2 other technicians to make it right.  Second issue just happened during my winter service call.  The Technician informed me I needed 2 new thermostats at a cost of $600 each for a whopping total of $1200!  I looked online and found the same thermostats for $140 each.  Needless to say I politely declined and placed an order on Amazon and received the new thermostats in 2 days.  I also looked at previous invoices and noticed that all of the parts they have sold me in the past had a huge mark-up.  I understand businesses make money off parts, but the mark-up Kellam Mechanical is charging is absurd. Additionally, their contract service is twice as expensive as other companies.  I don't like feeling that I'm being taken advantage of so I have cancelled my service with them.

These folks are amazing.  I have a house and a condo.  You have to get the maintenance contract.  I call anytime on any day and they respond.  The technicians are professional, on time and self sufficient. They will call to remind you of appointments, they keep excellent notes  and they dont over charge.  could not be happier with the service and price!

These people are the BEST in the business!!  Hands down, I wish they did other contracting skills.  LOVE them!  I called about my heat acting funny.  They called me back without prompting, they came when they said they would, their fees were extremely reasonable & told me if I had any further trouble to call & they would come right back out, no charge.  Who does that?  Kellam mechanical....that's who.

If Kellam was in the business of incompetence, they would have 6 1/2 stars. Their techs seem incompetent, their administrators seem incompetent, and the communication between the two needs a better word than incompetent (I'm open for suggestions). After seeing what they put our landlords through, we will happily avoid them with our new home.

I'm never writing a review before but today I have to been this company for 4 or 5 years to help me maintain. Any time they come to maintenance they are charging me very expensive. Yesterday they come to fix the Hvac they told me to reply 2 new systems bester than repair is cost $4,200.00 or more
I don't Agree with them I call another company to help me it cost less then $1,000.00. Kellem Hvac is bad service company I never seen. Bad service please see pictures under how much they are charging.

We have been using Kellam Mechanical  for a few years now.  They replaced our old broken down HVAC a couple of years ago.  We have them come out twice a year for check-ups and cleanings, they always set up a time window for the appointment and call when they are on the way and they have always been right on time.  The techs are really good, neat, clean, professional and knowledgeable.  The office staff is really good too, friendly and very responsive to customer needs, like following up with phone calls and giving the impression that your business and satisfaction is of utmost importance to them.  Kellam Mechanical is family run and local company that does costomer service right.

We had a issue that no one wanted to fix early this summer but Kellam Mechanical was willing and easily did.

Our duct work had a huge tear in it and more than half of it needed to be replaced. We had several people come out to give us quotes and most, if not all, never called us back. I get it, it's crappy work and it's hott. We then tried to go through our home warranty company. After paying our deposit and having a company come out to stand us up on 95+ days in May, we decided to front the bill and call a well known company that we knew would have little odds of standing up us. That's when i turned to Kellam Mechanical. They came out same day to give us a quote. Chris, our technician, came out and gave us an honest and affordable quote (lets be real,  duct work in the summer is not cheap nor is it easy work for these guys to do) that we couldn't refuse. We booked with Chris before he even left and decided to get the service plan as well, since we just bought the house and it's our first summer to maintenance the machine. The following week Chris was able to come out and replace the duct work for us and was even friendly to talk to. It's been about a month since we have replaced the duct work and i've purposely waited this long to write a review to see how well our electricity bill would hold up. We went from $400 to about $200 ( finally a normal bill!!!) in mid summer keeping our AC on 73!!  We've never been able to do this even with 80 degree weather outside. So yes, Kellam gets 5 stars in our book and we're also really glad we got our service plan.

As far as the service we had done, I'm so sorry that i forgot the gentleman that came but he was also amazing. He got our machine running great and even installed some fancy thing that shuts the machine off if it were to flood or the run off over flowed (I dont speak AC so my technical terms are probably wrong). Anywho, we are VERY happy so far with our services from them and continue to refer them to our family and friends.

Our AC was not working properly and Kellam provided same day service. The technician that came out was very polite and thorough. He kept me posted on everything as he searched for the problem. This is not the first time we have used Kellam Mechanical and like every time before they get the job done! They have replaced parts on our AC  with reasonable charges and always get our older unit working again. Kellam is a reliable and honest business and I would not use anyone else!

I had a routine maintenance appointment for my heating and cooling system last week and the representative Gage was the gentleman that came out for my appointment. Kellam has been doing maintenance for my home for a few years now and have always done a great job but my most recent experience with Gage was Outstanding and I want to give a special shoutout for that.
Let me start by saying I was hesitant about letting anyone in my home so this appointment has been put off for a couple of months. Gage called at my appointment time and advised he was running a little behind and offered to keep or reschedule the appointment. I decided to keep it since it's been put off already. When he arrived about 20 mins after we spoke, he rang my doorbell, when I answered he smile introduced himself and open a Rule#1 red floor mat on my porch and put on plastic shoe booties over his shoes than asked if he could enter my home. He had on gloves and a mask. Part of my system is in my closet in my bedroom and asked permission to go up my stairs and into my room. I could go on but you get the drift. He was polite and professional never missing a beat with advising what he was doing next and was out of my home in 20 mins. Kellam you need more technicians like Gage he was Superb! He should Train others to provide Top Notch customer service-especially during COVID times!

Kellam Mechanical was recommended to us by a good friend, and we couldn't have been more pleased with our first experience. They were able to get a tech out same day, fixed the problem honestly and at a great cost. If service is always this pleasant and wonderful, they've got lifelong fans!

We had a water pressure issue affecting our appliances particularly the dishwasher.   We had our water tested and were told it was due to water hardness.  We requested a second opinion from Kellam Mechanical and asked about water softener systems.  We were told on the phone they sold the systems and would send a technician out to diagnose our problem and test the water to give a second opinion.  We were told they would be here between 1 and 5 pm.  Naturally, they arrived at 5:00 after waiting all day.  The 'technician' literally looked at not one pipe.  Told us it's likely a hardness problem,  had to go call his manager to get us prices on a whole house system and when he came back in told us they in fact don't sell them and advised us to Google who does.  He never looked at the water line to the dishwasher or any other appliance or plumbing line.  After 20 minutes of small talk he asked for $59.00 for a dispatch fee.  I have never been so disappointed in a company.  Their website promises service.  We received anything but service.  As of now, the only thing we have accomplished by calling this company is wasting $60; practicing writing a yelp review, wasting an entire 5 hours and we are back to square one!

My review is based on the initial consultation, which is also what prompted me to have several more consultations with different companies and deduce that Kellam makes me feel like I wasted my money and time. I was going to be spending thousands of dollars, so I really put the time in to make sure I liked the company. The tech arrived to evaluate my issues and help figure out what exactly is wrong with my AC unit. The tech wiped the label of the outdoor unit, gave me what he thought were the issues (verified different from the other companies), and threw one solution my way. For them to further look for a leak inside the home, it was going to be an extra 200+ dollars, and they did not even confirm if the leak was outside (the other companies did). Comparatively, the other companies sat down with me, took their time looking inside and outside with the same initial consultation (all included with initial price), and gave me multiple options, some of which included modern tech and a maintenence plan. Perhaps Kellam would have done great work, but to get to that point would have cost me hundreds more than other companies. I did end up settling with another company that had the basic human interaction that Kellam lacked. I really wouldn't suggest this one since I've gotten really incredible initial experiences and far more options from other companies and am very happy with the one I chose.

I had my HVAC repaired this past winter after being without the AC for two summers.  Cost 1800+.  Turned the AC on but the house did not cool down.  I take it the putting in Freon was not included in the repair.  My warranty is up next year; I will be moving on to another company.  Their website is no user friendly.

Kellam Mechanical has taken care of our HVAC needs for several years. We love the service they provide.  Other family members have become customers based on our recommendations. Prior to signing an annual contract, they had done a few projects for us. Each time they were responsive, pleasant to work with, educational and professional. The craftsmanship of the technicians is top notch. We have had the same technician conduct our bi-annual inspection for a few years now. Having owned a couple homes in the past this is an experience that is truly unique. We recommend them.

Contacted them on Saturday for an emergency service call due to the furnace they installed only 4 years ago quitting.  It is now 2 days later and I have yet to receive a call regarding service.  With 2 children in the house and the landlord not insisting us using them because they installed the furnace, I would have had someone else out there within hours of them ignoring the service request.

My A/C went out over the Memorial Day weekend.  I called Kellam Mechanical, and the very nice answering service lady took my information.  Shortly afterward, a tech called.  His phone wasn't very good, so I couldn't understand him and had to ask him to repeat himself several times.  His annoyance was very noticeable.  I asked how much it would be to come look at my A/C.  He said the service call is $120, plus overtime, and then because it's a holiday, and ... I have no idea what he said after that.  He was annoyed, I was clearly bothering him, and I wasn't about to pay all of that money, even on a holiday JUST for a service call.  I thanked him and ended the call.  I did eventually find another company whose tech came immediately and was happy to help me.  I now have a maintenance agreement with that company.

The following  business day, I received a call from Kellam Mechanical saying they saw I had called over the weekend and offered to send someone out to look at the unit.  So, the tech never even closed out the call.  Friends recommended Kellam Mechanical to me.  I'm very disappointed.

I had Kellam Mechanical replace all my duct work under my Condo Unit. There were 9 runs and after 30+ years and living off the marsh the vermin and moisture left us no choice but to replace.
I went through 5 vendors for pricing. 2 came out and said they techs were too big to do the job. 3 came out and provided quotes.

Kellam had by far the best customer service and pricing.
The technicians were professional and very efficient.
They kept me up to date on their progress.

The end result of their work was that I have never had so much air flow in my house.

Had Joe B. out yesterday for a checkup for my mini splits that were install this past May and he was great! Didn't even know my system did heat! Very valuable news since our oil furnace had been red flagged and have been without heat, while waiting for a new furnace, for several days! He was very helpful and personable.  Also made a recommendation for a surge protector for our system but was not pushy at all. A+ service from him!

On a different note when my system was installed in May no one mentioned they did heat.  Also the wall surrounding my electrical box was damages during install and I reported the problem, to Rusty, but nothing was ever done about it. I got distracted after 6 emails, I had a newborn baby to take care of, and just never remembered to get back in touch.

I would give this company 0 stars if I could. One day before our home inspection in preparation for selling our house, our old water heater began leaking. My wife called Kellam (on a Thursday, not a holiday or weekend) and asked for a quote for replacing the 50 gallon direct vent water heater. They gave her a quote of $2800 to replace the old one with a comparable system. We agreed to that price. However, after arriving at the house they said we needed a special kind of water heater and the price would now be $6200. With just hours left in the work day, the home inspection coming the next day, and no time to ask another company for a quote, she agreed to it. She asked them for an itemized invoice to see the costs of parts and labor and the installation tech said a manager would provide it to us. They are now saying the managers are out of the office and they have a one price billing system that doesn't tell you what you're paying for. The bottom line is this company is dishonest and seems to think they can make money by taking advantage of people who don't have a lot of time to get multiple quotes. We didn't get any special product or service on this water heater to justify the 220% markup. They just knew we were stuck and took us the the cleaners.

My A/C went out last week just after those 100f days, I looked on Yelp to find top companies and found Kellam Mechanical Inc. which is also close to my house.  The service lady scheduled a tech to come out the following day (Friday).  I was out of town that day but my wife was there to show the tech the unit, he quickly found a bad part and replaced it but the computer was still giving an error.  Further trouble-shooting for the compressor had a thermal problem.  The company got the part on order (not locally stocked) and had us up and running Tuesday morning.  Special thanks to Josh the technician.  I'll use them again for my other repairs/replacements (Hot water heater next).

Kellam Mechanical is by far one of the best companies we've had the pleasure to work with.

My parents were having problems with their relatively new AC unit and more than one company was unable to fix it. Several friends recommended Kellam Mechanical and I can honestly say, they are the BEST group of people we've ever worked with.

Their technicians were very knowledgable, able to not only diagnose the problem that multiple other groups were unable to fix but also explain how to maintain the system. John and Adam spent almost 2 hours fixing the problem and because the system was under warranty, they didn't charge my parents!

That meant more to me than I can say. Knowing that my parents home is cool and they have a company they can trust is priceless. Honesty and excellence in service and technical skill are what the gentlemen at Kellam Mechanical built their company on.

They are our go to company for as long as we live in Hampton Roads.

It always starts with a leak - I had a leak coming from my ceiling in the first floor, just a slight drip occasionally.  Kellam came out next day first thing in the morning, quickly diagnosed the issue (my dryer vent was clogged, causing condensation) and got right to work fixing it.

A few weeks later, they came out for annual AC Maintenance (they offer a great membership service that in addition to other things, gives you two tune ups on your HVAC system a year), and found that my water heater was 23 years old, furnace 17 years old, and my fiberglass duct work was full of holes and mold.  They gave me reasonable quotes on all of it and offered financing - I didn't use it, but nice to know they have the option - then gave me time to decide.  I went ahead with all of the work, and the guys came out the day after I signed the contract.  They replaced all my duct work, the water heater, and furnace in a single day!  I was quite impressed with the speed and efficiency.  I can feel a difference in my HVAC now - the vents are blowing much harder and the house is cooling down quicker - and my water heats up much faster now.

Highly recommended - they are fast, professional, and reasonably priced.  The fact that they do it all - HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing - has convinced me that I have found my go-to contractors for work.

Kellam is great! Amazing customer service and skilled technicians. I had called in about an issue with my system and a gentleman named Joe Baker gave me a call and came right out. He's the man! Genuinely friendly and amazingly skilled guy. He had my issue fixed in no time.
