Extremely disappointing and shameful. I called them out to fix the low voltage wire that my puppy pulled out of the backyard condenser unit. They charged, I believe $240, to splice one wire with electrical tape. While they were here, they BROKE the valve that holds back the freon. The technician told me the dust cover would hold back the freon and there was no need to fix the valve. He was wrong and the system is now UNUSABLE. The freon leaked out. I'm a teacher and cannot afford to fix their mistake. They REFUSE to fix THEIR mistake. Terrible terrible company. Stay away!
Zero stars if possible

Worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. What started as a repair for my hvac system, turned Into the need for a new system to be installed. (Which I now question and think this could be a predatory company)  When they came to install the new system, they broke a pipe, couldn't locate the water shut off For 20 minutes, flooded my entire 2nd story condo and the unit below. Their employees started off very nice then Quickly turned to not returning phone calls, yelling at me, cursing at me and were absolutely zero help in dealing with their insurance.  The water shutoff was right next to the pipe they broke. take this experience for what you will but I would never recommend this company to anyone. it took 2 months and threatening with a lawsuit to get their insurance To settle so I could begin the repairs on my home.

This company came out to assess and replace a non-working AC unit at my place. From the first person I met, Mark to the installation team of Randy, Nate, and Dennis these guy have been professional, respectful, and thoughtful. They were prompt and on time for installation and worked as a team to get everything done. They even texted me throughout the day to advise of the progress and make sure I was happy. I hope to not need any AC repair/replacement for quite sometime but if/when I do, they will be the first company I call!!! Thanks guys!!!!

Bought our house a year ago- came with a Nest thermostat. It's worked fine for a year, last week I got an error code about it needing to be re-wired. I called several people before deciding on having American Mechanical come out- I chose them because they charged the lowest diagnostic fee ($85) when others range from $99-150 plus they were able to come out within two business days.

We were told they needed to replace a contactor and given a quote of $487 for the part- plus our diagnostic fee of $85.

I guess it's my fault for not being an HVAC specialist- but I really feel like I got duped. I have to have A/C at home, I have pets with health issues so of course I told them to fix it.

After doing some research after getting my invoice-- the contactor they replaced costs between $11 and $40 to purchase. I understand there is a mark up when selling a product or a service- but I felt over $400 was a HUGE mark up.

I contacted them at the office today and asked if line items were missing from my invoice and I was told, no, that's what we charge for that part

So, I guess if you're in a BAD PINCH- they can fix your problem. It'll only cost you your first born child.

I let them know that I appreciated the quick turn around but after this experience we will never use their services again.

We moved into our new condo in June, 2015.  The ice maker and water dispenser was not working on our Viking refrigerator.  The first time a technician was sent out he tried to fix the problem through the back of the refrigerator.  He could not pull the refrigerator out on his own so he said he would need to come back with another technician.  There was no charge that day.  The next time two technicians showed up to fix the problem.  The two of them could not get the refrigerator out from the wall either and they were concerned that they would damage our wood floors.  They even recommended that we get a cabinet maker involved because the cabinets that were built around the refrigerator seemed to be part of the problem as to why they could not get the refrigerator out from the wall.  They also took the refrigerator off of the stands at the bottom and they could not get it back on the stands.  Therefore, the vent at the bottom could not go back on properly.  We were charged for their time even though they could not fix the ice maker and water dispenser.  Fast forward to December, 2015 a neighbor told us about a guy that fixed similar problems he had with his Viking refrigerator so we called him.  He came out to fix the problem and immediately located the issue.  The thing is he never had to pull the refrigerator out from the wall.  All Of The Work To The Refrigerator Is Done Through The Front.  American Mechanical not only sent technicians to our condo that did not know what they were doing but they charged us for it.  We will never use them again.

I called American Mechanical to set an appointment to take a look some piping issues I had in my shower. I was told I would get a text and call to confirm the day and to set up a time. I was told I would have someone contact me Monday morning to set a time. I took the day off from work for this reason. Not only did I NOT get a call Monday I wasn't even contacted there after. I had to call the company 3 times to get an actual answer. After they rescheduled me for Thursday, I informed them I couldn't take the day off again so I would need assistance after 5. I was told they would see what they could do. I wasted my time just trying to get this company to come out. Don't waste your time or energy here, it's like pulling teeth just to get an appointment.

they started out great so I'm giving a 3.  but they ended badly so a 1 or two would be more like it now.  I got a new sewer line put in by them three months ago.  Now I have a ditch in my yard.  they refuse to help said it was just settling.  I don't think an 8 foot long & about 2 foot deep ditch is settling.  I believe it was filled incorrectly.  But they said it was just settling & they won't help. According to the plumbing boss they don't do landscaping.  They haven't even respond to my complaints. I was not asking for landscaping, just for them to fix the problem.   Now I would never use them again as they don't stand behind their work.  It is going to cost me a lot of money to get this large trench in my yard filled in.  I'm calling Bud's Plumbing and Heating, as they stand behind their work.

I had a terrible experience with this company. Their estimate, when I finally received it, was FOUR TIMES that of their competition. When I called with a question about the estimate, they had to get another person to call back...which they never did. They must have realized that their incredible overcharging was discovered for what it was. I would stay away from this company...far away..

Update:  Long time School teacher here.  Gave them 2 Assignments and they earned 2 FAILING GRADES
07/19/22 - do not trust : part 1 - had a rental property I had a service contract with the this company was supposed to come out twice a year. they have not been out in over 16 months so I called to cancel and they charged me for the remaining 10 months of this existing contract that they renewed without any notification....even though they have not fulfilled their part of the agreement which was twice a year service.

part 2 on my home address they wanted to sell me a whole new system even though I already had a train system that was only four years old. Ended up having a company that does not sell the equipment but services air conditioners come out and it was simply a $15 part they need to be replaced.

Original post;
As a longtime Virginia Beach High School teacher i would have to grade them with the comment not quality work.    I had this company out in to take a look at my system.. They did help drain a clogged drain pipe.  Then they fumbled around with the air handler wiring for quite some time suggesting that it was not wired properly...made many adjustments(all good).  My issue is that the next time the A/C kicked on the air handler shorted out! (thinking must be do to the wiring change).  So they send another technician out.  He says the same thing wiring all messed up so  he messes with the same wiring the other tech, from same company, previously messed with.   he can't figure out what caused the fuse to blow so he tells me my split system board must be bad and disconnects.   Now i have no split system and no clue where we left the wiring as they want to charge me to replace much.   System only 3 years old.   Bottom line! = they left it in worse shape than they found it.!!!!

Not happy. Scheduled service between 8am and noon. After 4 calls to their office, tech shows up at 330. We  paid 150.00 for weekend service call, I get that. But he couldn't fix it. After taking the day off to wait all day for a tech , ....they took a whopping $25 bucks off the bill. Are YOU impressed? I WAS NOT.
Is there  an option for no stars?

Had a water heater leak.  Called American Mechanical in Virginia Beach for help.  It was $250 for them just to come out.  I knew where the leak was on the heater, the thermal expansion tank had a hole.  The tech said it would be another $500 for him to fix it.  The tank costs $40 at Home Depot.  I told him he must be kidding.  A total of over $750 just to replace an expansion tank.  He said that is their price.  I had to pay the $250 but refused to give him another dime and sent him packing.  At that price, I could have bought a new water heater.  Next day I went to Home Depot, paid $40 for the part, and put it on myself.  These guys are crooks!

I was fortunate to have Drew Richard perform the Air Duct Repair Diagnostic. A visual inspection was conducted of the HVAC System with locations being in the garage, attic and crawl space. All of this was accomplished in a professional manner, while answering any and all questions that I may have had. Photographs of the several sections of the flex duct in question were provided. They were also provided when Drew returned and addressed the noted problems. I would also like to extend my THANKS to Drew and the Office Staff for the SUPERIOR CUSTOMER SERVICE that I received. Keep up the good work and stay safe. FRANK

I called this place to find out what was wrong with my ac. They came out the same afternoon. That was ok, but it cost $85. Then, it turned out I needed a new capacitor. The guy quoted me $360. So I called a local appliance store to ask how much a capacitor was...$12.51, and it took me 5 minutes to unplug the old one and put in the new one. What makes people think that they can charge outrageous prices for something so simple. That is dishonest and wrong. I will not be calling you again.

I love that they are always on time and very professional. I was offered 3 different routes I could go to solve the blocked drain problem; ea. one progressively more detailed (read expensive). Nonetheless,  they give you a window of time and are there when promised.  I've called them twice and both times were happy with their work. Thx!

I do not recommend this company to anyone.
They had me replace a part that did not need to be replaced ($900.00). Then trying to have me replace my compressor when I told them the part they told me to replace did not fix the problem. (trying to charge me $3,200).
Their technician needs more training.
I called a different company and in 2.5 hours it was done and only charge me $240.00. He even installed a new thermostat with that price.
Please don't waste your money with this company, call somebody else.

We own a restaurant, and the last tenants really made a mess of the grease trap and all of the plumbing that they fixed. So when our new tenant moved in, we realized that there was quite a few things that needed to be fixed by a professional, not just a dude with a wrench. I got quotes from a couple of places, but I was immediately impressed by the guy who came and gave us an estimate, Nick. He was proactive, thorough, polite, and spoke with knowledge that was easily understood by me, an absolute novice. He was so good that when I scheduled the work to be done, I requested him to do the work. I knew he would do a good job. Well, he did a great job! It was a big job, and it took nearly the whole day. He left it beautiful and clean, and, everything is running well. I will definitely call this company again for other work that needs to be done. After seeing some of these negative reviews, I was worried. But honestly, I did not have any negative experience at all. In fact, I am incredibly happy with the way the company communicated as well as the work done. I thought the price was fair as there were quite a few things that needed to be done.

James was exceptional, he provided outstanding service and for a fair price! I am so glad I went with this company, I was quoted a much higher price for the job James did today by another company and I'm so happy I chose to get a 2nd opinion! I will call American Mechanical 1st from now on! Highly recommended!!

The rep was a no show no call yesterday! He was supposed to meet me at 4:30. I waited a half hour and called the office to see why he wasn't there. After being on hold for a while, someone else came on the phone and told me you all decided not to come out since we are a church and therefore commercial! I told him that they knew it was a church! Very disappointed in the service we received! It is not good business to treat people that way. I just told a customer of mine and an associate the experience I had.

I called American Mechanical to fix an upstairs toilet that made a noise when you flushed it. When the plumber came out, he suggested I replace all the parts inside each of the toilets because they were outdated. And he suggested that would take care of the problem and avoid further problems.  My house was only 8 years old, so the toilets are fairly new. But It was only $175 to do the work and at the time, I just wanted to fix the problem, so I said yes.

They changed out the parts, but the problem persisted a week later. I had them come back out. A different plumber this time said it was because the first plumber had put an old part on one of the toilets instead of a new part I had ordered! They fixed it for free.

A few months later, my tenants told me the toilets were running. American Mechanical guarantees their work, so I wanted to call them back out to fix it. Only, I didn't really want to deal with the hassle because I had little faith they would actually resolve the problem. My Realtor called another plumber out and for $50, he seems to have fixed everything for good.

Austin,
Arrived in a timely fashion, was professional and courteous. Appeared to be knowledgeable in his understanding oh the HAVC system.  The Issue here isn't Austin.  Fantastic from a representative of the company perspective. He can come out anytime.

My first experience with American Mechanical was positive. Eric V was extremely helpful and fixed our problem in the matter of minutes, He was also very friendly. I would recommend him in a heartbeat .However, we had to use them again (we are renters and do not get to choose who we use) and had a very different experience. When trying to schedule a time to come out, they were very rude. We work full time jobs and with less than 24 hours notice, told us we had to be there from 12-4 pm the next day. When I mentioned that we all had jobs and needed to check with my boss about leaving work early, the woman on the phone (Renee) got frustrated and unpleasant. Despite her talking down to me, I nicely explained that It is very late notice and couldn't loose my job over this, so she replied neither can I. I am not sure what she meant by that but it was uncalled for and rude.I am sorry, Renee, but my schedule does not revolve around your company, the scheduling here is the worst I have ever dealt with. The only positive thing I can say is that Chuck, the technician was wonderful, cleaned up, and was quick. It is a shame that both of these wonderful technicians work for this company. I HIGHLY recommend looking into another company, with better customer service. I would never use them, if I had a choice. VERY inconvenient and TERRIBLE customer service!!!!!!

Would not recommend this firm. Had the annual service agreement for HVAC. During the AC inspection, they tried to get me to buy parts that weren't needed (capacitors weak/ going bad; caps either work or don't). Then when they looked at furnace, everything was working fine before they showed up, but furnace stopped working after technician was done. Said it could be fixed with $577 of parts and labor. When I refused the service, technician left and miraculously the furnace started working again. Either tech not competent or trying to rip me off.

As fast as I could ask for...especially when I needed them over the Christmas Holiday.

However, I believe I was accidently overcharged and someone at the company admitted that could have happened during a call that transpired after the service was completed.

The person agreed to look in to the matter and call me back, but never called me back.

I might use them again, but only if no one else responded first, just because they never called me back on the possible overcharge.

Called to have someone service my A/C unit. Called and made an appointment. The day before the appointment I was called and confirmed. The day of the appointment the technician called to say he was on his way, 15-20 minutes out. Arrived on time, in a clean outfit ready to work. Very professional. After the appointment about 45 minutes later my phone rang and a lady called to make sure the technician was on time and the service was performed to my liking. No complaints here

I can't begin to explain our happy I am that I DID NOT use this company and went with a strictly plumbing company for my sewage drain issue within my slab. I was quoted a ridiculous amount of money for work I later would discover I did not need. That estimate also entailed a considerable amount of contracting work I would need to have done when they finished which meant much more money. When I did not want to sign the contract on the spot, I was told I would have sewage coming up through my drains. Six months later, no sewage ever came up through my drains, the work was done at a third of the price and much less intrusively in my house. Please, take my word-get a second opinion or don't let them in your house to begin with!!!

I have had a service contract with American mechanical for several years.  I was happy with their service until yesterday.  I have a home in Virginia Beach where I live part time.  I needed to schedule my seasonal maintenance while I was here and before the weather got hot.

I called and was able to get a window of time for the next day, Wednesday 8-12. When I was making the appointment I asked if the technician could install a Nest thermostat.  The scheduler initially told me they needed approval from my condo management firm, I told her we were the owners and did NOT need prior approval. While I was on hold as she investigated that issue I heard all the recordings about the services they can provide.  After a lengthy wait on hold the manager, John, came on the phone to inquire about the thermostat.  He asked me if I already had it and I told him I did not but would have it when the tech arrived.

He proceeded to tell me the Nest was not a good item and that they install a lot of them only to come back and replace one year later.  I asked for his recommendation and he mentioned a Trane.  I asked him how much that would be and he said he did not know off the top of his head, but about $400 and it would be much better than the Nest. I told him that since he was the expert I would need to trust him to recommend the ideal item for my purposes.  He said absolutely I could trust him.  I also asked him about getting my dryer vent cleaned out while he was here along with the thermostat and maintenance.  He said sure for an additional $150. I asked for a discount and he dropped it to $100. I was then transferred back to the scheduler.  When she started to schedule, I asked again just how much the thermostat would be, she asked someone, and told me it would be the quoted price of $400. I was under the impression, he did not know how much they were cause there are so many and needed to find out.

The next day I waited until 11:30 to receive a call from the technician that he was about 30 min away, but was headed my way.  He arrived about 12:30 ( my window was 8-12). He brought in all of his machines to clean the dryer and began to clean the vent.  I had purchased the tin dryer hose to replace the worn plastic type which he did do.  It was about 3:00 by now and he started to install the thermostat.  He put in a Honeywell T-6 Pro.  He left me to set it up once it was installed. ( no directions were included). He went on to do the maintenance.  Once he finished with the maintenance , he looked at the water heater.  Afterwards he wanted me to pay and sign the paperwork.  I asked him if he would replace the filters for me and was upset he had to go back down and get his ladder.  When he gave me my total, he said it was $689!  I freaked, they were charging me for ANOTHER service contract before my old one was used!  After more phone calls it was resolved and I was billed $500.  When he left now 4:30, it was 75 degrees in my house.  I set the thermostat at 70 and waited 18 hours for it to cool and it was STILL 75 degrees in my house while the unit worked the whole time.

I called back to schedule another service call to which I was told I had to wait until one was available.  There was another tech who could come, but he couldn't come until he was finished where he was.  I I was transferred once again to John and I asked him about the thermostat.  I told him that I saw the exact same unit on Amazon for $79.95.  He said uh huh!  I asked him if they charge $320 for installation and he saidYES!  I repeated the question and he once again said yes and kinda laughed!  I could not believe how I was treated!  I said ok, lesson learned. I waited until after noon and phoned again.  I was told they could NOT give me a time, but as soon as his bubble turns white, I will have him call you!
Scott arrived and within minutes determined that BOTH the heat and air were running simultaneously!  How is that possible??  He had it repaired and blowing cold air for the first time since the Hvac was replaced 5 years ago!  Upon doing my overdo research, I found Nest is the number one rated thermostat, Trane is #6 and Honeywell is #7.

Why do men think it is OK to take advantage of women and then laugh at them?  Oh by the way, I felt bad for Joe working through his lunch I gave him an additional $10 in cash to buy lunch. Shame on me.

I am going to rethink my HVAC/electrical/plumbing services with American Mechanical long and hard.  I want to see some resolution.

Update, after working with their customer advocate, I am happy to say they made the situation right!  I was pleased with the resolution to my concerns.

Thank you!

First i would like to say that when i first had American start taking care of our home they were by far the best we had had, but that was over 15 years ago as time would have it they had gotten much bigger and with that things change, this i understand as i am as well in the contracting business and peoples impression of our company is important.
That said we have spent in excess of 20K with this company and then i had them come and do our fall service inspection, we were told that our flame igniter needed to be replaced and they would send us a quote.
They did it was just under 300 dollars for the service, i thought this was rather much as i contacted a commercial HVAC contractor that i knew and ran it by him, come to find out the part itself was less than 12 dollars and the time to change it was less than 30 minutes, so i literally had someone else come in and make the repair and it was right at 100 dollars. At this point i felt i had been completely taken advantage of for over 15 years, so if i were anyone i would most definitely recommend shopping around for a more consumer friendly contractor.

This is my 2nd time in less than a year I have had to call American Mechanical and just like the first time, they sent someone to my home within 30mins of calling them. Phil came out and assessed the leak in my attic and just like that fixed it! I love this company and they have come through everytime. Their technicians are professional and take the time to explain the repair process. I will continue to use them and would definitely recommend them to anyone who wants fast curtious and professional service.

Eric V was an excellent technician; he was punctual, knowledgable, and very efficient. We were told to expect a lengthy service call and Eric was able to completely fix the problem and clean up in a much shorter period than expected. Eric also took the time to explain every step of the process throughout the repair. We hope not to need emergency plumbing repairs in the future but do hope that Eric V will be available to answer the call should it be necessary.

Eric was a great and very personable!!! We had an emergency situation with the hot water heater in the attic and he came earlier than anticipated. Once he got there he quickly assessed the situation and communicated with me on a level that I could understand (since I'm not a plumber). He quickly began work and informed me of the cost prior. Made a recommendation of something else that was not necessary but recommended and explained why, which I understood and agreed to (and it didn't break the bank!). He tested the hot water prior to leaving and discussed cost with regards to moving the hot water heater from the attic. Eric also made me feel safe with paying by credit card and was able to swipe on site, without having to write down the entire credit card number. This was quick and affordable, our second time using them. A good experience in a BAD situation.

I have nothing but great things to say about my experience today with American Mechanical. From the initial phone call, to the service being completed, I'm very satisfied! They were INCREDIBLEY prompt! I called the company around 10:30am, and by 3:30pm, my new hot water heater is HERE and WORKING and all cleaned up! I can't believe Chuck was able to get it all completed so quickly. Also, Chuck! He was so wonderful, helpful, friendly, and made me feel safe and comfortable during the whole visit. He was upfront and honest and I feel very fortunate he was here helping us today. We will definitely be using American Mechanical for our future needs. Thank you for being a trustworthy company when there are so many scam artists out there!

Long-term customer and have seen a deterioration in the level of service.  They used to be more responsive and customer oriented.  Last minute cancellations (literally called at the exact minute of our appointment to cancel) after appointment booked a month out and shuffling our own work schedules to accommodate, is frustrating.  They maintain two stars bcs the actual workers who come out to do the heavy lifting are always great; however the office and support staff are now seriously lacking in customer awareness and service skills.

Unethical business practices.
My water heater stopped working. I called AM and they send a technician (Shawn)  to check the issue. Technician got to the house and only reset the breaker. Two days later breaker popped again. I questioned them if they had inspected the water heater to find out the issue and they said no. So they send another technician over (Ed) who inspected the heater this time. American Mechanical Charged me twice for the same call ($275 to basically switch my breaker).
They should have inspected the heater the first time, and I wouldn't have had to call them again.
Edit: After speaking to manager they worked with me on my concerns of the excessive charges. I dont know how to delete this review... just see an edit option

$4,200 later 3 trips still BS bought a new water heater and sink had installed. They chipped the sink. After it was installed you could notice the hot water only lasted minutes 3 tops. Another guy comes oh the heating element was bad. Then another guy comes Ed it was wet INSIDE the water heater issues since OCTOBER! I WOULD NEVER EVER RECOMMEND ANYONE USING THIS COMPANY EVER!!

We interviewed 4 companies before hiring the 5th company to install a gas tankless water heater. This company recommended an install that was against code. When it was recommended that they contact the manufacturer as we had done, they continued to argue they were correct.  A gas tankless system must be at least 3 feet from an open window. We ended up with install in the attic by another company.

Bad business.  Leaving my son's family, with infant, in a warm house during a hotspell, while my son is away on military duties.  It took me three calls to get a lukewarm response at best, despite promises they would call call (there is a maintenance contract in place, to make matters worse).

They just want to upsell additional diagnostic services when they already know what the problem is.

Stated there must be a coolant leak in the AC unit.  Recommended a $300+ electronic diagnostic.  When I asked why can't they give a freon charge, they said it's against their licensing, since they know there is a leak.  Yet they want $300+ to prove it's a leak - which they said will ultimately require a new coil (which they stated in their report is pristine - it's not that old).  When I asked about the cost for the coil, they weren't sure.

So they are certain there is a leak, but they want me to spend $300 to prove it's a leak, and then require a new coil, which they are not sure how much it will cost.

Avoid them, unless you want to burn money.

This has been the worst experience and I want every reader to be aware if you are considering them to service your home.  We paid this company nearly $500 to do generator maintenance and a battery installation that we purchased.  First, don't mistakenly miss the call they make when they are 30-60 minutes out and on their way.  They will cancel your appointment as they did to us, even after I spoke to and confirmed the appointment with them less than 24 hours ago.  This is, in my opinion, a company trying to get out of appointments due to over scheduling and booking too many appointments with not enough workers.  Next, the technician that came out to the 2nd rescheduled appointment to repair our generator was professional, the management, not so much.  I called repeatedly after my service call for several weeks and spoke to a supervisor over the fact that the technician who serviced my generator repaired it, but unfortunately did not completely repair the system correctly which left my generator running 24 hours non-stop.  After speaking with a supervisor he agreed to call me back to schedule a follow up.  A few weeks later after no call back, I called him and he apologized and scheduled my follow up appointment and said since this was a follow up to the previous repair it would be no service charge.  Then after taking off work that day to be home for this 3rd scheduled appointment, I called the company when my 8am-12pm window came and went with no sign of a call or visit from American Mechanical.  When I called to check the status, they said you are right you did have an appointment, but because we are in the middle of a terrible storm and have several emergencies happening, we cannot make it to your home today.  This is terrible customer service.  No one even bothered to call to notify me of this and since when does someone's emergency give a company to completely ignore my 2 week out scheduled appointment.  So I again called to speak with management and this time spoke with the Manager/Owner over the supervisor I've talked to for the past several weeks.  She then had the audacity to tell me that the company would charge me another $150 just to get the technician to come back out and that the other supervisor was wrong for telling me that it would be no charge.  I tried to explain to her that her technician never properly completed the first job and that my generator continued to run non-stop and she did not care and insisted that if I wanted them to come back out, it would be $150.  There was no interest in customer satisfaction, no I'm sorry for all of the inconvenience.  I will be sure to spread the word to anyone who will listen at how disgusted I am and how I was treated.  They were considered a leading contender for some upcoming services being done in my neighborhood's city water installation, but I certainly will not be calling them for our home's installation.

These guys showed up to my property to work on a sewer easement that ran through my yard. The excavator operator said he was going to be digging a trench through my yard. I asked about utility connections such as power and electrical. He said it wasn't his problem since it was an easement. They finally got the utilities marked but gave me no opportunity to mark a private water line and proceeded to dig right through it. No notice given at all. Just a cocky IDGAF attitude with no regard for private utilities.

I rarely write reviews and never this in depth - so please read!
We were in desperate need of getting our heater fixed - of course it went out the last cold weekend we had for the season! Our system is only 3 years old and still under manufacturer warranty. The technician showed up in a timely manner and was nice; told us that the problem was the ignitor. Charged us $400+ and signed us up for a recurring monthly membership. He replaced the ignitor with an after-market part, which turns out didn't fix the heater. Then he says the gas valve needs to be replaced, but it's under warranty and he doesn't have the part - so we're still without a working heater, and BTW we still have to pay for everything he did even though it was misdiagnosed. He also told us a lot of other things we were wrong with our system and we needed close to another $1000 of work done.
We never received an itemized invoice of what was done and what we were changed for. We got a second opinion which told us nothing was wrong with the ignitor (nor the rest of the system), the gas valve did need to be replaced and is readily available to do so under warranty. We called American Mechanical back for an ITEMIZED invoice, to cancel the membership and to work out what needs to be done about the service done at our place - putting back the original part as to not void the warranty.
They were not sympathetic, they brushed us off claiming doctors have different diagnoses too, etc. and will have a manager be in touch with us. It's over a week later and we do not have a reply. We have tried calling back almost daily without reply.
To put a cherry on top, they charged our card ANOTHER monthly membership fee within the same week. I'm now approaching this via our credit card company because we can't get a response. Terrible to think you can't get decent customer service from a local business. Also, as a doctor myself, having different diagnoses doesn't work like that. If you completely misdiagnose something and treat it incorrectly, you are liable for malpractice.

Extremely happy with AM!  When we realized neither of our HVAC units were working in 95 degree weather, we were frantic to get them replaced quickly. We got 3 quotes for 2 new systems from 3 different providers, including one we've used faithfully for 13 years.

AM was easily the best quote, had the best financing, and got out here super fast.  On top of that, the job they did was impeccable.   Dave, Ryan, and John did an awesome job getting the units installed and running smoothly for us in record time.  I've never been so happy with a contractor as we were with these guys.  We'll be calling them for all our winter work as well!

Your guy showed up and I told him what the AC unit was doing.  I knew what had to be done to fix the AC but I was after the warranty.  The compressor was humming but the fan was not turning.  I took a paint stick and gave the fan a spin and it worked but stopped later.  It was a bad capacitor and worse case scenario a bad fan motor.  The guy takes the side panel off and told me the same thing.  He quoted a price of $900.00 for repairs.  ARE YOU KIDDING!!!!!!   I can get a new fan motor for at the most of $125.00.  I bought the $14.00 capacitor off of AMAZON for $14.00 and it fixed my problem.  How do you justify $900.00????   I can only image what you charge old people and people who don't have a clue.  Shame on you for taking advantage of people.

I made an appointment  on a Tuesday for a non-functioning a/c for them to come out that Thursday, which they confirmed via email.   Then on Thursday afternoon they call saying they can give me an appointment for the following Tuesday.
What - did i make an appointment to make an appointment???

I was in the process of setting up an estimate to have an electrical quote and woke the next morning to water dripping from condensate line. I called and made appointments for both was told an estimator would be out Monday for electric but could have HVAC tech out Thursday.  Set both appointments and told the rep I will be home all day both days so open any timeframe.  Received text message confirmations for both dates and services.  They called this morning and it took three call backs to get a person who tells me the appointment was to schedule the service.  And unfortunately there are no available for next two weeks on peninsula. So I could reschedule (but I never actually had a an appointment to begin with!) was the option I was giving.  POOR WAY TO HANDLE BUSINESS AND THEN BLAME CUSTOMER FOR NOT UNDERSTANDING.  Why do we need an appointment for 48 hours later to schedule the actual appointment just take my info and advise I will be called back. The text even said I was scheduled when I wasn't.

I had some issues with my HVAC system at home and they were recommended by the Trane web site.  Called via the web info. Received a text on Tuesday 8 September 2020 @ 1:48 p.m. of my request for service.  Text on Tuesday 8 September 2020 @ 3:17 p.m. was a friendly reminder that they had me scheduled for the following day and a dispatcher would call to follow up based on their routes.

Wednesday 9 September 2020 @ 3:04 p.m. I text them to say no call from dispatch.  Our apologies, does tomorrow afternoon work for you?   Sure.  Therefore, appointment Thursday 10 September 2020.

Thursday 10 September 2020 @ 3:37 p.m. Our technician Wade Spring is on the way.  He arrives on scene approximately 5:00 p.m.  Finished his inspection around 6:45 p.m.  Recommends an EZ trap (with cutout switch) installation (that night for $317.00) and the annual service plan for $189.00.  I decline and elect to get a whole system estimate for repairs (i.e. ductwork, drain pan, etc).  This information is not relayed correctly.  He stated that I just declined to have the work done.
Friday 11 September 2020, I order the EZ trap without the cutout switch on Amazon for $14.00 and expedite shipping for $6.00.  Part arrived Saturday evening and was installed Sunday morning.
A few calls later, now Wednesday 16 September 2020 @ 12:12 p.m. Kevin Barnette is on his way.  Kevin and his unknown associate did a fantastic job of evaluating the startup and operation of my HVAC. The dip switches were never set properly, which caused my unit to run to strong and not properly for the variable speed fan.  There were remaining issues with ductwork, which we discussed and I was waiting for a repair estimate.
Thursday 17 September 2020 @ 5:32 p.m.  I receive an invoice from American Mechanical for $0.00 excellent, but no repair estimate is sent.  I respond via email and ask for one.
Tuesday 22 September 2020 @10:29 a.m. I receive a quote for an entire ductwork replacement @ a cost of $8000.00
Called dispatch Tuesday 22 September 2020 @11:10 a.m. for clarification. Taylor was not available, left name/number. No call back.
Called dispatch Thursday 24 September 2020 @ 10:46 a.m. Taylor on the other line, left name/number again.
Update:  5 October 2020 @ 11:57 a.m.  Raymond left me a voicemail checking on the quote I received to see if I had questions/concerns.  Returned his call at 12:15 p.m. On the phone and he returned my call at 12:19 p.m.  I gave him a quick synopsis of the last service provided and the quote that I asked for (which was nerve provided).  I also told him I had someone fixing the system at the point in time.  He followed up with, Well if you want to replace the whole house ductwork for $8000.00 in the future, just let me know.

I can't think I will call this company again for Anything!

I needed a new water heater which they put in. Problem was the roof vent ended up being loose and they sent Richie who told me it is supposed to lean and move with the wind which is a lie. That vent has NEVER leaned. I spoke to Richies boss, Joel who was very rude and dismissive to me. After all the work they had done in my home, I find it unacceptable to be treated like that. They will never get a recommendation from me again. I even sent a review to their Quality Dept. but they never responded to me.

STAY AWAY......

These folks do good work but are extremely OVERPRICED !
Their plumber fixed my cracked cast iron drain line in under four hours and charged $1650 !
The problem is their pricing.  Each task is priced as a stand alone job as if they were on an individual house call! and then are added together, regardless of efficiency of combining work.
They are not willing to negotiate, either.
Also, when I called to complain, my first call was not returned by  Brittany, and I had to call back and explain my concern to a second person who said, they basically didn't care and the pricing was firm.
yes, they also try to sell additional services no requested.

RUN, DONT WALK, AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!

We originally scheduled a HVAC preventative maintenance call for our system.  Mechanic came out in late spring, did a great job.  Suggested a service maintenance contract, which we agreed to, providing a bi-annual maintenance check up.
Our first spot was scheduled 12-22-22.  Company called that day, explaining they had a large number of calls of no heat , during a brutal cold spell and Asked to reschedule.  We certainly said not a problem rescheduling, and they picked Monday, 1-16-23.
Mechanic never showed up for morning call.  When husband called office, he was told someone would return call.  No one ever called, instead, we received text notice that our appt was rescheduled for Tuesday.  No one asked if we were available.  Again, no show.  Another call on Tuesday resulted in same issue,  we received a text that appt was rescheduled for next day, Wednesday.  Again, no show.  Another call resulted in promise that mechanic would show up.  We called again, told them we weren't available after 1230, were promised mechanic would show up at 4:00.  Well, you guessed it!!  No show, no call, instead, yet another text scheduled for today, Friday.  I called office at 8:30, to ask when/if mechanic will show and asked to speak to office manager.  I was told they're all in a meeting till 10:00.  At this point, I'm sitting, once again, waiting.

I was told office manager would return my call, at 10:00, when mtg concluded.  Instead, at 9:00, I received call from dispatch manager. I explained my issues and frustration and was met with very condescending responses.

This company arbitrarily schedules appointments, without checking with customers, never returns phone calls, are consistently no shows, without reaching out to customers.

Absolutely WORST customer service. Customer beware!!

Technician came out the first time to my rental house and wrote that they removed surface hair(a few small hairs on the removable trap, also I put a hair remover snake thing down to make sure this was not the problem before I called) and that it drained fine after this, which is a lie. So the property manager charged us for this visit. When I called the property manager to tell her we were still having the same problems a different technician came out and removed sludge(from the main line) and informed us that we needed new drum trap on shower and tub drain. How does the shower drain fine if the main line if backed up? Both American Mechanical and Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Towne Realty don't listen well or care about their customers.

Outrageous! Charged $2000 to clean the air conditioning unit. Took 1 1/2 hours and no parts. The work was fine, the cost was ridiculous.  When I disputed it they just said it CAN take longer (?) but it didn't.
I was outraged by their attitude and the price! A freind has same unit and was charged $150 for a cleaning.
They sent a contract with a huge list if every little thing to be done. It was just a cleaning for gawds sake.
Just forget it.

Called American Mechanical about a month ago about my HVAC throwing error codes on the thermostat display.  AM was quick as dispatching a service tech.  After the service tech did some checks the tech said that I needed to change my filters and that my ducting needed to be larger and the return grates needed to be changed out.  It's not like the grates were rusted or falling off, so I said ok.  Charged me $342 up front and would charge me the other $342 when the work is complete.  That was a month ago.  I had called a week, then two weeks later for a status update, and nothing.  But magically, my HVAC started working properly again with no error codes, so I forgot to follow up with them again...because...well...they will not follow up with me.  But they remembered to send me the other half of the bill for $342.  Mind you, no new sensor, no return grates, no ducting installed.  Some nerve.  There are others on google.  Better to try someone else than to try these guys.

Dear American Mechanical Customer Service department,

Please clarify to your customers how exactly you schedule your appointments. For example, here's a negative situation: on Monday, I'm told that I have an appointment at 3 pm  on Tuesday. On Tuesday, I leave work early, but no one shows up or calls until 4:30 pm. They leave a message, and I call back less than 5 minutes later only to be told my appointment has been canceled! I'm sorry, American Mechanical, but my life does not revolve around your ambiguous scheduling. In short, you suck.

Yelpers, please take your business elsewhere.

So I'm a bit late to reviewing but about a month ago I was having issues with my HVAC system and it suddenly shut off completely. We called American mechanical in high hopes because of the outstanding reviews and were met with a hefty male who looked like he jogged miles before showing up. The entire introduction was so off putting as he kept talking to my wife and I in a tone that sounded as if he was talking down to us. Told me the system had a leak (which it did). Told me if I didn't get it patched and refilled with freon it would stay off (which was true). Now that was where it should have ended, but it didn't. The man was very adamant on me getting a new HVAC system because mine was nearing its end of life expectancy. When I told him it was too costly at the moment, he kept throwing in my face that they do payment plans. Pretty standard business routine right? After declining he starts throwing other things telling me that my ceilings will cave in and that at the very least I should have boards to walk on in the attic crawl space. At this point my wife is extremely worried while I just want him out of my house for bringing utter nonsense to the table. He takes us outside and does a continuity check for some reason I have no idea on the HVAC saying well at least there's electricity going through it and then continues to tell me as if I don't know what a multimeter is (I'm a technician) that what he just did costs $500! And it would be waved just because he's a nice guy and that I should really get a new system... all in all it was a terrible experience for me. I kicked the guy out got a REAL HVAC tech and got all my problems fixed without extra and stupid added on costs. I have a one star but would have given less if that was an option.

POOR SCHEDULING AND HORRIBLE COMMUNICATION! Do yourself a favor and find another company. On MLK day we had American Mechanical come out and provide us with an estimate to install a wall outlet in our garage. We agreed on a time and date for later that week and I paid half the cost by check. Today (Friday), I have waited for this contractor all day and no one has showed up. I even received a text message saying the technician was on his way to my home. That was at 930. After a call to the company, I was told they had an issue with another job they were working on. At 430 I received a call from the dispatcher saying that they would get to me SOMETIME today. American Mechanical did not waste anytime cashing the check I provided them. The work wasn't even done yet and they had their money. I lost 8 hours pay due to poor scheduling and work prioritization. You would think that I would at least get a phone call the next week with an apology for wasting my time and causing me to lose a full days pay. Nope. Nothing! Useless company! Do yourself a favor and take your time and money elsewhere!!

READ THIS BEFORE YOU CALL THIS COMPANY!!
If you call this company be prepared to be nickel and dimed to death! Every time the tech said something it was another $600 dollars. First $600 to check all the wiring, then $600 to fix the part that failed, then wanted $600 to add refridgerant. I stopped him at that, googled companies to add refrigerant. American Mechanical was charging way more than other companies.
A day later I had another company (Stokley Services) come out at over half the cost of American. They also found a loose wire connection from the part that American replased. Remember the first $600, check all the wiring....yea they didn't! When I contacted the company to make the wrong, right. I was told to read the fine print in the contract. The contract was on a tablet that the tech gets you to sign to charge you. Never showing you the contract.

DO NOT CALL THIS COMPANY, unless you like being over charged

Just had my 3 year old heat pump removed and replaced with a 15 SEER Trane gas heat and electrical AC unit. Took them two entire days to remove the old system and put in the new one. They explained in detail every part of the installation process and how to set up the thermostat to our needs. Cleaned up their work area daily too. Had 4 techs working today and it was amazing how they coordinated amongst themselves.
Glad we selected them as our HVAC guys.

Here it is, 9 months later and what a difference  not only the cost but how quiet and how efficient the unit is. And no call backs what so ever. I didn't even realize that the heating system had been turned on.

I am very disappointed the customer service of this company. I have attempted to contact their quality team twice through email in response to their survey after the job was complete.

For starters, the technician was on time, explained what his repairs would be throughly, professional, and made sure he did not track dirt in the house. I have zero complaints about the tech that came out. His name was Robin.

I needed to have some pipes replaced in my laundry room and the tech made an honest mistake and did not cut the water off all the way. One of the pipes broke in the process of him working on it which led to my hallway partially flooding and getting water underneath my new flooring on both sides of the hallway. When he was done there was still a leak on the pipe that I had asked to be replaced from the start. He said he did not think there was an issue with that pipe. He turned the water back on and decided he would come back another day to repair. He left and I called the office. The office did not call me back. I had to call them two times throughout the day to get a hold of someone. Then they said they would send the plumbing manger and the sales rep out to look at the floors and the pipes. That did not happen they sent the HVAC manager who took a look at stuff but it ended with just run some fans on the floors.

They also promised me that I would get a receipt emailed to me that noted the floors in case an issue arose in the near future with them. I have yet to receive that email. Furthermore they offer me the membership to offer me something but it really only took 15 dollars off my total cost. At this point I was over it and wanted the job completed.

Job completed no leaks or issues the second time around. Then I go in my bathroom on the other side of the wall from the repairs and there are holes and drywall damage from the saw which was used to cut the pipe. Which left a mess on the floor as well. Nobody told me or warned me about this.

I hate writing reviews like this when I feel like I have given them the opportunity to correct the mistake. I sent them emails in response to their quality survey sent after the job was complete. I included pictures in the second email that was sent to them.

I was treated very unprofessionally from the phone, to late service, to not being given a receipt. Please no one use this company.

DO NOT DO BUISNESS with AMERICAN MECHANICAL!!! Their business objective is to take advantage of you any way possible. Their dishonest, poorly trained technicians will replace parts that don't need replacing. Charge $400 for $8 part and feel great about it. They will sabotage your HVAC unit just so they keep coming and charging you more. One  HVAC Tech will tell you that the repair will cost $1800 to $2400, when you say you will need to think about it, you will get a cash, after hours offer from another Tech. for $1200.
You call a different company and it cost you $86.50, and you learn that the parts they replaced were inferior to what you had before.
DO NOT TRUST THE FIVE STAR REVIEWS, they are as fake as the company. DO NOT DO BUISNESS with AMERICAN MECHANICAL!!!! WORN YOUR FRIENDS!

Was not happy with the outcome of this service. No problem with the gentlemen that came to
our home. He got the heat going and he said it could last a few hours a few days, a weeks its a temporary fix. He explained to us we needed a Hi Limit switch; but he did not have one on hand . He needed to get one from the warehouse but since it was Saturday it was closed. Unfortunately it broke within eight hours. I'm not upset about that because he told us that might happen. The part I'm upset about is we called them early Monday morning 8am was told no one was in yet .Because it was early, I understood so we called back at 9:45 am explained to them what had happen. They in returned said they were having a 10:00 meeting afterwards someone would call us back. We heard nothing from them. So we called another company in Monday evening to replace the switch. Which they had to overnight it .Which was little costly on top of the 135.00 it cost us from American Mechanical. We finally got heat back on Tuesday evening. I called American Mechanical Wednesday morning at 10:00am. I spoke to a lady ,Lou, and explained to her what took place asked her why we did not hear back from her company. She then said they called Tuesday and left a message informing they had the part. I was home and did not get a call in my 58 degrees home. We were suppose to hear from them Monday; we call twice and didn't hear a word back . To me that is not Good Business or professional. I Had asked for some compensation back to off set the total cost  of needing  another company to restore our heat . They reply. We did nothing wrong and therefor none of the money would be funded. NICE COMPANY...

It's all about SALES with this company. Be careful! You won't get a detailed written description of exactly what they found, what is causing the problem, and a detailed work description that spells out exactly what they're going to do to fix it. I know because I asked for these written statements several times and never did get them. What you WILL get is an oral briefing l from three different technicians (salesmen) they send out and a pitch from each to upgrade and/or totally replace what you have now, even though it really doesn't need it. And you'll get a couple of invoices that lists a few material parts with a total price at the bottom. When you try to drill down and ask questions like, How many linear feet of ducting is required for this job and what are you charging me per linear foot to buy and install it?, you'll get referred to their invoices which tells you absolutely nothing except a gigantic price tag.

Came in and didn't seem to know what they were doing. They supposedly fixed the problem but others had to be called in to fix what they had done.

Normally I'm in bed pretty early. Kids tend to wake me up early so I tend to go to bed early. Well being that it's holiday break, I decided to bake cookies for myself and binge watch Netflix until 11pm like a wild woman. I went to use the bathroom downstairs before bed and when I glanced into the downstairs play room, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. There was a bulge in the ceiling, then there were two, and little drops everywhere. I FREAKED. I called one company first who couldn't come out. They suggested cutting the water and waiting until morning. I have kids and would be getting up early. No water means no coffee. No dice. I called American mechanical in tears. They gave me the number to cut off the water and had someone out in about 30 mins. Jason arrived and tried to be as quiet as possible since my 18 month was sleeping. He triple checked everything and eventually found the leak, a tiny part in a pipe that had been misting... I'll spare you the details. Needless to say, the discovery was impressive. Also, I'm not sure if these technicians have training in dealing with panicking and crying females, but they've all been extremely kind with every issue I've had, from plumbing to HVAC to electrical work. Just incredible. It's now 2am and he's finished and I feel like I can finally go to sleep without worrying my ceiling will cave in. As always, I highly recommend American Mechanical.

DONT WAISTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS COMPANY!!!! I really dont know where to start. We had our full  bathroom updated. We also had them turn a half bath into a full bath. When we talked with them (Boogie) about doing the work we were told, just sit back and let us do all the work so you can enjoy your new bathroom. Yes there were a few closets I had to take out which was done but then Iwas told I had to take out walls, have our tile guy come out and remove tile (cost us extra) just so we didnt have to reschedule. Now the tech is saying in order to put the new vanities in, the plaster guy needs to come in and plaster up the walls they had me remove or they cut out. One would think they would schedule this to align with their work schedule.. So a 3day project now turns into who knows how many days. But when they bid the job the tech/salesman(boogie)said, if we are here more than 2 days we are here too long and we have major problems. Yes you got it we have problems. We have only 1 bathroom that is working right now for 6 people. This bathroom they didnt touch thank God or we would not have any working bathrooms. The two bathrooms they worked on the tech (shawn) left one needing a vanity and the other it needs both vanity and toilet installed. How is this enjoying your new bathroom? If I were to call and voice my displeasure, I would get the run around or they would try and blow smoke.. So NO I DO NOT RECOMMEND this 0 star company. If you value your moneys worth call another plumbing company. It will be well worth it in the end.

David S., from American Mechanical, arrived within the time span to the spring AC check   He called before arriving when he was 30 min. out. He was pleasant and informative with the owner who is hard of hearing. The performance check was completed well and he provided information
on the new system and thermostats. I would use him again and will request him from the company.

I needed a plumber to fix my shower faucet and toilet. I called American Mechanical based on google reviews. Jon S. came out and was awesome! He called to let me know when he'd be there, arrived on time, answered all of my annoying questions, explained everything he was doing, and did excellent work. I would hire Jon again for any plumbing needs. Thank you!!!!

Not having a good experience with this company so far. The waiting game to get my repairs done it taking entirely too long and their communication in almost non-existent. I am calling daily to find out the status of my repair so I can get my air conditioning back up and running. They told me it would take two days to get the parts in on a Thursday and showed up Monday with the incorrect parts. I head no air conditioning in my house, in the hottest months of the summer, for six days now. Nobody is calling me to let me know anything. They had me pay for my repair upfront and at this point I'm thinking about going with another company. Hotels are expensive and American Mechanical is costing me more and more money every day as I waiting for them not to finish the job.

worst place ever.  They pretended to save us from a twenty year old system that we had 5 service calls on in 4 years. then they replaced it with a bran new Trane system that we had 10 service calls on in 2 years. Refilled the coolest on it 3 times and promised us we didn't have a leak. then on the coldest day in Virginia since we lived here the system stalls, one of our pipes freezes causing 15 k worth of damage, they come out and tell us that they need to refill our coolant again, and since we are 3 months past our warranty they have to charge us $500 to do a leak check, AND charge us for refilling our system, even though we paid them for a service contract on a brand new system that continuously has problems. American Mechanical will not still any more money from me, don't let them do it to you!

Buyer beware - they charge over $400/hour for labor. For a company as well known and as reputable as American Mechanical, we had higher expectations for their level of service.

There is a high end AC unit in our home, still covered under warranty, installed by American Mechanical only 3 years ago. Our AC went out Monday, 6/28. We asked for a quote on diagnostic fee before we had them come out, it was reasonable around $80-90. Technician came out that afternoon, troubleshooted, cleared the lines and replaced the Thermostat (covered under warranty). Our verbal quote went from around $300 to around $700 after more diagnosing, to exactly $1,469.00 when we saw it in writing. The tech left with the intent of returning the following day to replace an ACF board. An hour after the tech left, our AC cut off. This tell us the work he did, was not the root cause of the issue. On 6/29 he returned to replace one part (ACF Board - also covered under warranty) for an additional $286.50 in labor. He assured us the unit was functioning at 100%. To date, we've paid $1,755.50 for an AC unit that is covered under warranty. An hour after the tech left on 6/29, the AC cut off again - telling us the root cause was never found. Since Monday, 6/28 we have been asking for an itemized invoice outlining parts vs. labor and they have refused to provide since this isn't something they do so we don't know what exactly we've paid for.

We had another company come out Wednesday, 6/30 for a second opinion; from the beginning, they called Trane Tech Support to troubleshoot (something American Mechanical never did). All HVAC techs have repeatedly said our unit is high end, high tech so I appreciate the new company going straight to the source instead of executing trial and error at our expense. This new company was able to solve the issue in half the time for half the price and our AC has been working fine ever since.

Since American Mechanical never solved the problem and we've paid them nearly $1,800 for we're not sure what, we have repeatedly called since 6/28 for the following: (1) an itemized invoice, (2) photos indicating WHY the thermostat and the ACF Board needed to be replaced and (3) a manager willing to accept accountability. We have received none of these things. It is 7/4 and we still haven't heard from the service manager. They are now avoiding our calls (manager always seems to be busy when we call), not returning our messages and we're simply pleading for them to do what is right.

I'm happy to adjust my review if they hold themselves accountable. While they have several positive reviews, there's a chance this could also happen to you. Save your money and trust us when we say TAKE YOUR HVAC BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. They're capable of doing this to anyone else.

$600 estimate to install a simple kitchen sink after they changed their pricing system a year-ish(?) ago?  I've been a customer of American Mechanical for YEARS.

YEARS.

I've been that long-term, loyal customer of American Mechanical because their techs have always been amazing, whether electrical, HVAC, or plumbing, and their pricing was very fair.  Note: WAS.  When this guy came over here yesterday and said $609, I nearly hit the deck.  Thankfully I didn't have to pay the $85 show-up fee since I joined the home care plan, because there was no way.  I called the main office because I was sure he must have made some kind of calculation mistake.  They called me back this morning with $450.  For a kitchen sink install.

As amazing as your techs are, you just lost a long-term customer, and I can't recommend you anymore.  So bummed.

If I coulfd do 0 stars I would. I have an upstairs and a downstairs AC until. When I bought my house, the upstairs AC wasn't working, so I had American mechanical come and check it out. $800 later, the only thing I was able to figure out was that there was a leak, and they proceeded to fill it with the freon even though they believed there was a leak which is what costed so much. Next they did a couple hundred dollar leak test. Told me, they could replace the couplings or tear off the siding of my house to check the pipes because they didn't believe the couplings could cause as much leaking as was occuring. I opted to only do the couplings as it was a cheaper fix and needed done anyways. 3rd visit. Couple hundred more. Upstairs unit was fixed. Next hot day, I go to turn on the downstairs unit, and to my surprise if doesn't work! Blowing hot air! I call a new company, and guess what?! They said someone unplugged some fuses and connected them backwards! I completely and totally believe that this was done on purpose due to each tech that came pushed me and pushed me to sign up for their maintenance contract which I politely declined each time.

This company is shady and took advantage of a wife who's husband is deployed and knew I wouldn't know any better. I trusted a company that was supposed to help me when I needed it. It's absolutely disgusting what they did.

My heat went out on a Saturday so they charged me $150 service fee just for coming out and telling me what's wrong with it. The guy was super nice and explained everything but was also trying to sell me this attachment to filter my air. Let's just get my heat working first please..it's cold. He said he could t fix it and had to get the part from manufacture ( Trane). Said it would be $1100 to fix with parts and would take a week to get in. I agreed but asked him to hold off till I spoke with my wife. I got online and found the part in town at a certified trane parts company for $150. I took out the old and put in the new in under a half hour and my heat it working fine. This place is insane and seriously taking advantage of people during this trying time and also during a more trying time for anyone who calls them being out of heat or AC. Next time look for a local business and not a chain. People do make $1800/hour but it isn't HVAC people because that how much I would have been paying since it only took a half hour. Insane! Don't use this place!

so ANGRY, after spending all day with no heat in freezing temps (20) I was promised that someone would come out by my insurance from this company, after no contact I call them to find out they have a wrong #, so I correct it and the after hrs call center states Ill get a call. This 'guy' calls and says yes? I reply well I am checking on your arrival time, he states Im not coming tonight, someone will call you tomorrow? I respond Ive been waiting and not waiting another day for the heat to get fixed when I was promised tonight, (theyre 24 hrs) he states NO, tomorrow, I said forget it and hung up. I call my insurance back nearly in tears as we're all freezing and whilst on hold another guy from american mech calls? Yes, he states I will be there in 45 mins (midnight) I say ok...but ...nevermind...he says are you the home owner? It will be $135 I said its a $75 call out fee? He tells me he'll call right back...he calls back and states he'll be over in 45 mins again. So apparently, if your insured with a fixed fee, your a last priority, people paying out of pocket with no contract are a priority as they can charge what they like? Huh and they have such good reviews......whatever

I had Ed at my house today for a leaking pipe.  He found the problem very quickly and had it fixed within 30 minutes.  He also gave me an estimate for a new shower/bath faucet.  He was extremely thorough and very knowledgeable!  Most importantly he was SO NICE!  The price was GREAT!  Very affordable and the work done so well!  I highly recommend American Mechanical!  Thank you Ed and thank you American Mechanical!!

Like many others in the area, my air conditioning stopped working during the record heat wave this Saturday.  Luke arrived the next day and was quickly able to identify the issue.  Less than an hour later, he'd finished up the repair and was on his way!  The company and technician were great at communication, dependability and efficiency.  I'll definitely be recommending them to my friends, family and neighbors.

Dear Liz at the customer service desk in the Plumbing department,

Some things you probably shouldn't do as per the Customer Service Bible:

1. Have a service technician not show up for an appointment.
2. Pretend the phone number AND address of customer was incorrect [which I verified on the phone for them TWICE] when customer calls to ask where in blazes is the damn technician.
3. Yell at the customer [hiss!]
4. Call customer back and pretend the change in appointment was never approved by yourself personally and thus that is why the damn technician did not show up.
5. Call the customer a liar.
6. Yell at the customer again.

Yeah. Thanks to the not-very-awesome customer service rep Liz - who told me TWICE she was too busy and swamped to deal with, you know, customers - I took my business elsewhere. Really don't need strangers on the phone yelling at me.
