Universal Home Experts

Houston, TX 77064

Description

I see you are looking at Yelp to find a provider. I appreciate you looking at our profile. Consumers have a difficult time picking reputable companies on Yelp. Yelp has a long history of suppressing reviews. If you don't pay them then only bad reviews will show up. Which is why on Yelp we have 2.5 stars but on Google we have 4.8 stars and 1500 reviews as well as an A rating with 750 reviews on Angie's List. We refuse to pay Yelp and so only the negative reviews are revealed. I recommend trusting Best Pick Reports or 5 Star Reports to find a reputable company. Is your home at a standstill because of a plumbing, HVAC, or electrical issue? Reach out to Universal Home Experts today and receive fast, same-day, and on-time services from their team of trusted technicians. Since 1992, the company has been serving countless residents throughout the Houston metro area. The company has always been known for providing Trained, background checked and drug screened technicians who upfront cost before commencing any work.

We experienced a very perplexing problem with the electrical system in our house.  We called Universal Home Experts and they had a technician here within an hour!  Sterling was very professional and diagnosed the problem.  He was able to rewire and repair my problem without delay.  The fee for the repair was also reasonable.

I have used Universal Home Experts for many of my repairs for plumbing, air conditioning and electrical problems.  I do not hesitate to call them when something goes wrong.  I highly recommend them as I do believe they are fair with their pricing and very professional with their work.

Stay away from this company - Universal Home Experts

We used Universal Home Experts for our yearly AC checkup, and this year, after they performed our spring checkup, they confirmed all system is functioning well (Our AC unit is only 4 years old).

Then in about 3 weeks, with the weather getting hot, we noticed the 2nd floor AC was not cooling. We called a different AC company to check for us since it is 7pm at night and we know that company works late hours. When the technician arrived and checked our system, he came to me and ask if I have some other company touched the system before, I said yes, we had a spring checkup. Then the technician told us that during the spring checkup, there are two wires in the capacitor that they forgot to re-connect back after checking, and that had led to the complete failure of my compressor. The technician suggested us to contact that company since it was their fault and they should replace it for us.

We called Universal Home Experts the next morning, they sent a service manager that afternoon. At first, the service manager still refuse to admit it is their faulty, and the only reason they gave was they have faith in their staff that they wouldn't make such a mistake. So I requested to talk to the manager, Ed, after a long debate back and forth, they finally admit that it was their fault and agreed to replace my compressor for free.

In a few days, I even got a phone call from them telling me the parts were arriving and the installation was scheduled for last Thursday. I thought everything finally worked out.

NO.

On Thursday, I waited at home for them to come. No one showed up. I called them and the front desk said they know nothing about my case and the manager would call me back. Waited the whole day, called a few times, and every time the manager was in a meeting and would call me soon. No. Waited the next day, still no one call me.

Today, I had my husband called them, and finally, the manager sent me an email, saying they have determined that it was not their responsibility (without giving any supporting reason/evidence). And they will not replace my compressor. At this point, we have live without our AC for over 2 weeks.

We picked them originally due to they have good reviews on Google, and now, they totally ruined our trust. Please stay away from this company, they do AC/electrical/plumbing. A company without integrity is not worth any future business.

Once called with a request for assistance. They apparently hire a company to answer their calls. NEVER EVER expect to get a call back after leaving your number with the person who answers their calls. He literally asks for your information and I don't believe it gets passed along. Basically, just call another company. You'd have better luck with responsiveness.

They sent their best and they did not disappoint.  They accessed the problem and recommended a solution.

Universal has brought home the realization that 'professionalism' & competence',i.e company's moto for their work ethic, doesn't hold true 'indefinitely'.  I assumed the Universal i chose  4 yrs ago to entrust my home 'maintenance & repair' to,is not in the same league as the Universal of 4yrs ago. Universal, present, no longer adhere to 100% customer satisfaction guarantee. That meaning to this customer is that i am fully aware of the problem and given options for  a best decision for repairs. I want a candid quote for each option so that i can know exactly the cost. I know what i am proficient at,& if i'm not trained nor have proficiency of a 'task' , i hire those who are secure & undated in their  profession to be able to troubleshoot for a successful repair. I should not know more then the person i hire to fix the problem. I shouldn't have to 'hand hold' or 'spoon feed' them either, esp when i'm not proficient in that profession. This customer requires the hired to treat the job as if it was their home needing the repair and to be able to communicate/educate a customer so they are able to make the best decision. Anything otherwise is a waste of the customer's & service provider's time, energy, and costly, not to mention the memory of a bad experience.Which, is unfair to the guys whom did exemplary job of the 100% guarantee customer satisfaction; those guys were that good, their work quality exemplified it, no bull or 'crap'! They are no longer there & sadly they took their standards  with them. I have revoked my Universal membership bc i am not satisfied with the present sub-par standards, i tried to work with them twice, hoping i need not cancel membership.
I gave 2 stars bc of my experience with one of the newly employed, J.,he could be as awsome as the 'guys' servicing electrical, plumbing,& hvac.

These guys are happy to take advantage of the elderly and turned a 30 min fixture replacement into a 10,000 panel replacement using scare tactics. Buyer beware

We've been using this company for 10 years, and for three different homes.  We've purchased two A/C systems from them.  We've had to have them come out a few times now to clear out the A/C drain, and each time it has caused our shower drain to clog.  Rather than checking it before they left or coming out to fix it, they tell us we have to pay over $200 again.  We are promptly canceling our monthly service plan with them and if they do not remove our info from their system and attempt to contact us, we will file a complaint.  This company has gone downhill considerably in the last few years.

Setup an appointment to get my plumbing fixed during the big freeze. I am a preferred customer, been paying the monthly fee for years now. They called to confirm my appointment  and then never showed up. No phone call, no call back to explain what happened and make it right. When I try to contact them no one answers it just goes to voice-mail. I leave a message and they still do not call me back. So here I sit 4 days later unable to get any help with my plumbing issues because after hoping and waiting for them to show up that day I had to try to find another plumber and there were hundreds of people in line in front of me by that point. Shitty customer service. Hell I can't even get a hold of someone to cancel my preferred customer membership.

If you want inexperienced electricians that would charge you crazy amounts of money,  give these guys a call! They gave me a very expensive quote for hanging a chandelier. Thankfully, I was able to find an honest company that was able to do it for a fraction of what this company was asking for.
So, do yourself a favor and do not waste your time and money with this company (they even charge you for the quote).

This company is a sham. Run away as fast as you can. They lure you in with free a/c, furnace, electrical and plumbing inspections and modest discounts off book prices if you become a preferred member @$8/month, but come up with an incredible number of additional services on every visit. These services most often are not needed and if they are, they are way overpriced!

As an example, they quoted $694 to add up to 3 lbs of Freon ($231/lb with 15% discount). My new A/C guy charged $75 for $1.5 lbs of Freon ($50/lb). Note: there would have been no prorated cost for amounts less than 3 lbs and in my case would have been paying an effective rate of $462/lb!!!!

They deserve no stars, much less a single star (my opinion of course).

This company STEALS!!!! over priced on all of their services.
they don't give any prices over phone
so they dispatch someone to look at the issue and before starting give you a very high prices so you will not accepted
for example they asked  512 just to install a kitchen faucet

Warning: these techs are either incredibly stupid or incredibly dishonest. My 75 yr old mother called them to check her A/C, which kept tripping the breaker. Universal first sent an electrician who told her there was no problem with the electrical and who called in an HVAC tech. The second tech checked everything and told her she needed to replace the entire system. Then a third guy came out to give her the estimate: Universal wanted to charge over $10,000 to replace the whole a/c and furnace ( a 3 Ton American Standard split unit).

Needless to say, we called another company for a second opinion. After only FIVE MINUTES, their tech found the problem (a loose wire causing the machine to short out), fixed it, and checked to make sure the system was working properly. And he didn't even charge us for the visit. That's right- a five minute fix that cost ZERO DOLLARS.

We will never call Universal again. I can only assume that they saw an opportunity to take advantage of a vulnerable senior citizen and charge her thousands of dollars for something she didn't need. They should be ashamed.

Absolutely the worst in time management. Had 2 calls saying they would be here for A/C inspection between 12:00 and 1:00 pm. It is now 2:15. I cancelled the appt. this is the second time. My time is worth money as is everyone's. If a company cannot do what they say they can do, I don't need their business.

I rarely ever write a review here on Yelp due to lack of time but definitely had to do so this time.  Had already gotten one quote from one of their competitors and it was super high.  One of our friends said they had used Universal for years and we should give them a call.  Nick comes out and his quote is 30-35 percent less and no BS.  The other company was trying to charge us $250 per water heater just to flush them.  Each!  Nick including the flushing of both water heaters in the total price.  Top quality work done in my attic and a true professional in my house.  I highly and strongly recommend Universal for any heating or AC issues in your home.

Called UHE to come out and bid a job to replace a ceiling fan and light fixture on high ceilings.  I would supply the fixtures,My first clue should have been when they told me that there would be a $60.00 charge for an estimate, but they said this would go towards they job if I hired them, so I thought how bad could it be??

The Gentleman they sent out was Oscar. He was extremely professional and polite. Then the quote came in.... $1142.00 to do the job which he stated would take about 3 hours!! That is 380.66 per hour!! I think they must have lost their minds somewhere along the way. I did not hire them.

Do yourself a favor...get several estimates before hiring this company.

Awesome company that's knowledgable and friendly. They'll definitely get you going where you need to start, and remain professional and very efficient. Their reputation will speak for itself. Not enough people give a great review, but I had to make sure people knew about my 5 star experience. Summary: Friendly, professional, good rates, and efficient/quick.

Very incompetent staff scheduling appointments. Have been told that a technician will stopped by my house this morning... is 5:30 pm and got a call from them to reschedule for another day. I took the day off from work to take care of the situation at home. Sure i can reschedule any time because i don't have to go work never!!

I really cannot express how horrible our experience with Universal Home Experts was. Our pipes burst during the recent TX Freeze and we called Universal Home Experts to come fix our busted pipe. We were so grateful for them to come in and fix it until they told us the price. I kid you not, 3x the average price for a pipe fix. We asked several neighbors who had worse bursts than us and their costs where WAY LESS. We went ahead with the repairs because we were desperate for water but then after they left, we were unable to get any hot water, we also saw they they used a different pipe than promised (and charged for) in our written estimate and they did not fix a second leak that was within the 10ft of pipe replacement coverage. We asked them to come back and fix these issues they left us with and the guy was SO RUDE and condescending when we simple asked what happened and what our solutions are. He told us that there was nothing he could do unless we completely repiped the whole house. We had a second opinion come in, that told us those guys were just trying to sell more and they were able to fix us right up. I can't believe we lost $1200 from these jerks at Universal. I will NEVER recommend them to anyone and will make sure every review site knows this. I would much rather give them zero stars but that's not an option. I don't care how desperate you are, don't trust these guys. Also, what if we were elderly and unable to climb into the attic and see they lied about the pipe we paid for? No telling how many people they are taking advantage of like this! They are price gougers, when we told him we could not afford to repipe the whole house plus we would also want a second opinion. We asked for any temporary fixes to not having hot water and he told us to go to our website, there is a little button that leads to Wells Fargo, finance it.

THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!  On three separate occasions (out of 10), I was told an electrical technician would be to my home to fix electrical issues I was having and they did not show up and they did not call.  After on going electrical issues, I needed copies of the original work orders on the 10 visits to my home.  I asked 5 time; twice from Mary (the ower which I was told did not have any supervisors - gives a lot of insight as to what she thinks of her customers) and three times from Justin.  Nothing.  Just lip service.  I believe this company has a lot to learn and I also believe their services - which they refer to as investments - are very overpriced.  I will never, ever, EVER use this company again.  If you do, good luck.  You'll need it...

Very poor scheduling.  Electrician was scheduled to arrive within a 4 hour afternoon window; he did not show.  I called and Customer Service rescheduled for the following day and promised that the electrician would arrive in the early morning around 9AM.  At 9AM called to confirm that the electrician was still coming and was informed that they were already on other jobs and they will try to get someone out before noon but could make no guarantees - but, if I wanted to reschedule AGAIN to another day, they could make sure someone will come out.  I've already called in advance TWICE and scheduled appointments.  Very poor.

These guys are all about overcharging for everything. They did some work for me. They will have you believing that you should rewire your whole house because it's a safety hazard. I spent a few thousand with these jokers, they wanted me to spend a few thousand more. I sent them on their way and hired a new company I was very happy with. The 2nd company I hired only charged me $500.00 instead of my life savings like these people wanted me to do!!! Oh lord and once you are on their list you will get solicitation calls and mailers, a real pain in the rear. Shop around don't fall for this scam, the main person that comes out is very nice and will really have you believing you need to do all kinds of work to your wiring. Beware

I expected an onsite visit and had one scheduled.  An hour after the scheduled appointment, someone called me (Ed?) to give me a quote over the phone after looking at the property on google maps.   The range was between 4 and 5 thousand.  I wouldn't touch this business with a ten foot pole.  They prey on stupid people. Don't be one of them.

I called this business for help with a plumbing leak.  I specifically stated on the phone that an AC diagnosis was done and we needed a plumber to snake out the line.  Girl on the phone said service technician was on another call and he would arrive after that call.  The truck appears about 2 hours after I placed the call and it was another AC technician.  When asked when the plumber was coming, there was no answer.  The manager cancelled the service call.  Inadequate personnel running this business.  Person taking the call in the first place got the whole problem royally messed up!

UPDATE to my review of 7/20/2015 (not enough space to add to original review):

Upon hearing my complaints, the owners of this business did try to make amends. They sent me an edible bouquet and sent a plumber out to flush out my water heater for free. It was the same problematic plumber who came before. He ran the discharge hose out to my driveway, which was only a few months old at the time, and put a huge rust stain on it, which I had to pressure wash so hard to get out, it took some of the concrete off (and stain is still faintly visible). He could have run the hose into the grass or into one of two highly visible PVC cleanouts for my sewer line that were actually closer than the spot on the driveway where he discharged it. Pure carelessness. I don't think this company is callous or deliberately dishonest, but they are overpriced and their employees are not the best.

OVERPRICED! I called them to install an GFCI outlet with a weatherproof receptacle outside under my patio. I asked them to give a ball park estimate over the phone. They claimed that they would need to see exactly what is requested before giving a price. (RED FLAG) This was a horrible lesson learned. They quoted $900. Wasted $60 service call. DO NOT USE THEM.

We called Universal Home Experts to help us install our newly bought Thermostat. Since our old Thermostat only had 4 lines and the new wifi Thermostats required 5 lines. The guys arrived on time, and stated that they would need to run a new wire from the A/C unit to the Thermostat box. We said, okay how much do you think that would be? The guy stated he didn't know and had to go outside and write an estimate. While they were outside me and husband agreed that we didn't want to spend more than 100$, 150$ max to have the new Thermostat (that cost us 100$ at best buy) installed. It just wouldn't be worth it at that point. The guys finally came back in and proceeded to tell us that to have a new wire ran and the Thermostat installed that it would be $889.00!!! We live in a townhouse, the A/C unit is directly behind the Thermostat. Not a difficult job at all. Eight hundred and eight-nine dollars to install a 100$ Thermostat. I couldn't even believe these guys had the courage to walk in our house and give us that quote. We literally started laughing and told them to get out of our house. My husband was like Get out, get out right now lol. These people are a joke, please look around before using their service. An awful company trying to get rich on taking advantage of people in a hard spot. Its obviously okay for a company to make a profit, but this was out right greedy and disrespectful. Shame on them.

This company is a complete joke if you ask me...was quoted $400.00 to install a patio ceiling fan...now to be fair I did call on a Friday for a Saturday installation, still a little high but I was willing to pay it.The tech called me around 12 pm to let me know he would be on site between 2-3pm...and for just showing up the fee was $400.Well, I told him yes $400 is what I agreed to pay so why would I have a problem paying once you got here?He then informed me there would be additional fees for the install...after some prying, he informed me the additional fees would be around $400...really, hanging a fan, $800? Are you people out of your minds...what a joke...I'll never call these rip off artists again !!!

Universal Home Experts...interesting company! So it turns out, you can negotiate the proposal they give you. I just read thru the reviews here and had to laugh because they tried to rip me off also. An electrician named Brett P. came out to my house to install 2 electric wall sconces in my media room. His estimate came in at $512. Too high! I explained to Brett the Restoration Hardware sconces were $169 a pc and I wasn't paying more for the installation than I paid for the sconces. He said, okay...I understand. How about $327? I was like...wait...what? Where do they come up with these numbers and why did they originally want $185 more? If Brett could do the job for $327 the whole time, why did he increase the price on me? Could I have negotiated further? SO WEIRD!!! I paid the $327. Brett did a great job but GEEZ! Who wants to haggle with someone in their home? Would not hire again based on feeling like they were trying to take advantage of me. There are too many other good companies out there to pick from to deal with that!

where did honesty and integrity go? company needs to take an ethics class. if you read the other 1 star reviews you start to get an idea of what I went though. I am definitely seeing a pattern that only benefits the company. this company will never ever do work at my house again.
obviously money means more than their reputation. I hope the people that gave more than one star were not unknowingly taken advantage of.
I don't blame the workers, seem like a great bunch of guys just looking for a paycheck and doing what they are told. it is totally the management. personally I would find another job, I like to be able to sleep at night. if after all this you still want to use them, watch what they charge you for materials and what they actually use. the difference is what they overcharge and be aware you'll have to argue for a fair price even after you catch them at trying to rip you off.

These people tried to scam me a while back. Now it appears they're also not very smart - they sent me a We Miss You! marketing postcard, which prompted me to check if I ever reported the incident with them. I had called to ask about changing out light fixtures on a 20 ceiling inside the Loop, as we only have a 13 ladder and did not want to deal with the hassle of buying, transporting and storing a ladder just to do this one job. The person on the phone assured me they could do the job, then explained there would be an upfront, non-refundable charge of $65 on my credit card. Any overages that I authorized would automatically be billed to the card as well. I reiterated that as long as they had a ladder that could allow them access to the 20 ceiling I had no problem with that. She assured me the technician would bring an appropriately sized ladder. He did not - his ladder was 13, ha - and he told me the company did not have larger ladders. They tried to stick to their guns about the upfront charge but fortunately for me, AMEX called them on it and I got my money back. I only wasted a few minutes of my life with them but it was so blatant others should be aware.

This company installed an interior a/c coil, plenum, and dampers.  Immedietly after the service my outside unit began making an insane noise upon start up.  I called them back out 1.5 months later and they basically lied to me and said the system is leaking freon and oil and MUST be replaced.  They quoted me over 4 quotes for different units.  They also kept pushing a new furnace and there is nothing wrong with it.
I had One Hour AC come out after them and they said the compressor is fine, not leaking freon or oil.  The oil in the bottom of my unit was from 2 years ago when the last one was replaced.  One Hour was able to detect the system was OVER CHARGED and that was the problem.  Basically Universal Home Experts caused the problem and i had to pay to fix it.  I was not very happy with them and will never use them again.

If i could leave zero stars i would. I called this company to assist me after hours for my electricity that was not turning on after some bad wiring on my part. I couldn't set the breaker and no power was able to turn on. They sent a tech over and  he quickly diagnosed my issues. He told me that permits would have to be pulled and that my kitchen appliance that had been wired was fried also not to mention more extensive damage that would have to be adressed later behind the main breaker .  He quoted me minimum of $2800 for repairs. He went to his truck to right up my options. I had a friend who i had called who was a master electrician. When i asked the original tech to talk to this person he immediately asked for his credential. After realizing the guy new what he was talking about he explained the situation briefly and passed back the phone. I told the original tech that i would pay for the trip charge and let him know if i would need the repairs. With no hesitation he said he just spoke with his boss and that he would not be able to work on my house bc of too much liability if something goes wrong. My mouth dropped bc i thought this was my only chance of getting power restored. He said to do the job right it would be minimum 2800 make  14k to re wire the entire house. After i heard 14k i said goodbye. Within the hr  a new tech from friend's comp  came out. The power was restored in about 10 min with total cost of $250. It was clear to me that the tech was trying to prey on my ignorance  and make the most of the trip. I made several attempt to contacat the owner to hopefully see if this is how biz is run or it was just a bad seed. They stuck to there diagnosis. All i know is that i based my decision on reviews and Universal had solid reviews. However i will never use or recommend this company to anyone. Its sad that this work practice still exists. Be warned and i hope it doesn't happen to you. Btw none of my appliance were burned and the power has been running strong ever since. Thanks Universal for absolutely nothing.

Overpriced.

I had a simple job - I wanted to replace an old outlet with a new, AFCI outlet.  When I called and asked how much, customer service said well, it depends on what the electrician finds.  That should have been a flashing red light; nevertheless, I went ahead and scheduled a service call.

The technician arrived 2 hours after the scheduled appointment.  He didn't want to install an AFCI (he said they are too touchy) so he recommended a standard outlet.  Real simple job.

Before he started the job, he tried to sell me a new breaker box.  He said it would cost $2,500.  I told him to work up a written quote and I'd compare it to three other bids.  After that, he dropped that suggestion.

He proceeded to do the work.  After he finished, I watched as he worked up the bill.  Basically, he had a book that listed services and charges.  After I got the statement, I knew why customer service did not want to give me a quote -- according to HomeAdvisor.com, their charge was on the high end of the range of charges for such a job in the Houston area.  There was nothing special about the service that justified a premium price.

Moral of the story -- if someone is dodgy about the cost of a simple, standard procedure, find someone else.

These folks are totally above board and fair.  Electrician Mike Gustafson could have done what I asked and charged me $300 but he explained why it wasn't necessary and saved me a bundle.  They answer the phone 24 hours a day. I called one night and they had Mike at my place the next day. He was able to get an a/c professional (Marlo) over the same day to address the real issue.   Very well versed in their trade.  Highly recommended.

I am very impressed with this company.  I had three technicians, Danny, Mike, and Marlo come to my house and every single one of them was great; friendly, knowledgable, and professional!
They told me where I might run into problems in the future and gave me a price without being pushy.  I am planning on signing up for their maintenance plan based on my initial experience with the company and the employees who represent Universal.  It sure is nice to deal with one company instead of three!

$300 to unclog a kitchen sink is excessive.  Nothing out of the ordinary, simple food clog.  Pricing was based on the neighborhood, how expensive your house looks, and what you are willing to pay.  Once they are there, it's hard to say no due to the trip charge if you don't do the work.

Excellent company. Had some wiring replaced in my home and a new breaker box put in. Called for service and got an estimate. They came out the same day, did the work and got everything up to code. When I asked that the outside wiring be concealed they sent a tech back to change the wiring. This business puts customer service FIRST. Many companies today just want to collect a fee and be done. This company really goes the extra mile. The personnel does a great job communicating with the customer. They will call you back! The technicians are professional and very polite. Will be using them again.

Way too expensive, I would recommend checking around to get at least 3 other bids, however, great customer service.

Universal Home Experts continues to impress my wife and I every time they come out. Big or small problem, they are always very respectful, helpful, and knowledgable. Most recently we have had a string of Plumbing related issues, and their plumber, Van, is very nice and helpful- always willing to show me the issue and help understand all the options to fixing the problem. I never feel like they are gouging me on price or taking advantage of my ignorance. I would recommend them for any plumbing, electrical, or HVAC issue as I have used them for all three over the past few years.

A good electrician should be able to look at the detailed pictures and summary from a home inspection and tell me whether a project is urgent, or should just be watched.  Universal wiring refused to even look at the paper inspection which has already been done, and insisted they must go out to the property to look at the property first.  ($60) Unaccommodating, and with so many more helpful electricians in the area I can't see why anyone would choose this very expensive, unaccommodating, unhelpful company.

Would like to have given a better review - because after Hurricane Ike Universal Wiring assisted with getting my power back on after a tree knocked out the line from my home to the pole - and Centerpoint couldn't get to it for another week.  Back then, the price was good and they were a great help.

Fast forward to 2013.  Asked them to come out for a bid on a new panel box.  They charged $60 just to come look, then bid it over $6k.   I sent them on their way, and the same exact work is being done by another reputable electrician for $1,500.  They got their $60 out of me, so they probably don't care about a negative review.  But be warned.  And always get multiple bids!

I had my troubled AC serviced by Kevin from Universal Home Experts. The unit has been having the same problem every year since its installation. Multiple guys from several companies came in and went away with no real solutions. Some of them were simply sloppy and irresponsible. Kevin was capable, considerate and efficient in solving the immediate problem and suggested a reasonable long-term solution. I was really impressed and glad to find Universal Home Experts at the end.

Superior company and employees.  This was their 4th visit to my house. We had additional duct work done; Erik and Mike S. we're here on time, professional and executed the work perfectly.

I cannot recommend Universal Home Experts high enough! Electrical, A/C, plumbing...they're the folks you should call.

Reason we called:
1. Dishwasher was not turning on
2. Disposal not turning on
Not a plumbing issue

Day 1: My wife looks this company up and it showed good reviews so we went with it. They were very kind and knowledgeable. We were told that they are not the cheapest but we are paying for quality work and a long lasting product and everything will work when they are finished. As they were inspecting the electrical box he needed to test to see if it was the breaker shorting out so he switched the line to another on. Sure enough when he did that the disposal was working but the dishwasher did not. As he was eliminating problems he caused the washer to stop working. He said sorry and then continued to tell us the problems we had. We needed a new breaker box in the end and went ahead with the work (6,000$). The workers came and installed the new breaker box, fixed the problem with the disposal and fixed the dishwasher. I say that because when they installed an outlet for the dishwasher to plug into, that caused it to not fit in its original place. I told the guy who was working on the dishwasher, but he just continued on with his work and left the dishwasher out(after telling him it would not fit).As they were fixing the dishwasher they then broke a water line.they called, and I advised him of what happened and he asked if I wanted to fix it myself or if I wanted to get one of there plumbers. I told him I wanted a plumber. The plumber arrived and said that it would be an hour to get the part and fix it. He left and was gone for over 2 hours. It was evening by this time..They fixed the water drain pipe but still did not fix the issue where it would not fit in its original place causing drawers not to open..Right before they left I asked if they had labeled all the breakers. Sure enough I get told oh did you want to do that? these guys clearly did not want to stick around and finish what they started. I was told that the wiring for the dryer was not correct and as long as we don't use the dryer all day long over and over again we would be ok (exact words) and to expect the dryer to flip the breaker if we do that. After that and the box now labeled they left. Later my wife tried the dishwasher. As soon as she turned it on she noticed something wrong, It was leaking water all over the floor and a bad burning smell. I then tried to start a load for drying and within a couple seconds it shut off. I went to the breaker box, flipped the switch and tried again thinking maybe it was just a hiccup. Sure enough what they said before was completely inaccurate and even turning the dryer on would flip the switch.

Problems after day 1
1.Dishwasher leaking water on floor
2.Dishwasher does not fit in same spot
3.Drawers do not open(due to dishwasher)
4.Dryer does not stay on.

Day 2: Called Universal Home Experts. They arrived shortly after with a million apologies and there word to have it all fixed by the end of the day. As they checked the house for the reason the dryer wasn't working he advised us that it was because aluminum wiring and not the correct size for an electrical dryer and we now need new wiring so the power wont shut off the dryer. We were told that the boss only wants to charge us for the wiring since they had to come back and fix everything. The cost for just the wiring was over 1000. Seemed a little steep but at this point, but had no choice unless we wanted to hire a new company and wait while water was all over the place and unable to dry clothes..We agreed and they came that same day and repaired/fixed everything.

Day 3: after we had our nice new wiring I decided to go out and get new outlets and light switches to kind of update the house. As I was turning the power off to the areas I needed I noticed I didn't have a living room according to the breaker box..I decided to just shut everything off and continue with what I was doing, as I did not have time to go though all the breakers. When I got to the back part of the house (kids room) it was getting a little warm so I just decided to turn the AC on and a few rooms to get the air flowing. Sure enough the breaker box was labeled wrong, the kids room was on wrong breaker, the fridge was on wrong breaker, and no living room. Called AGAIN got it fixed three days later.

Sam is very nice and knowledgeable.
The workers need serious supervision.

We had a great experience with Oscar. He was professional and quickly diagnosed a problem with several breakers in our panel. He gave us a few repair options of varying cost without any pressure. Would definitely recommend Universal Home a Experts.

I don't often write reviews, but I feel compelled to this evening.  I received some of the best customer service today from Universal Home Experts and their electrician, Daniel Perez, that I have received in Houston.  I called Universal to repair my electrical service and surge protector, which had been severely damaged by last weekend's weather and had resulted in loss of power.  Daniel came to the house and explained in detail a variety of options and costs to meet my needs. The options were not cheap, but fair. He made the repairs efficiently and insisted on waiting for CenterPoint to come to the house and turn the power back on.  Daniel was done at noon and, long story short, CenterPoint finally arrived at my house around 7:45 (after multiple promises to be there sooner).  He wanted to ensure that the electricity was hitting all of my outlets properly and wanted to also ensure that I was comfortable with the work.  I probably would have bailed at some point if I had been Daniel, but he stuck it out and checked everything out once power was finally restored. That insistence to make me feel that the job was done properly has made me a customer for life.  I highly recommend Universal Home Experts.

I had Universal Home Experts replace my exterior home and landscape lighting this past summer in Richmond, TX.  To start with, when I first called them, they came the very next day to give me a quote and return the following day to do the work.  The gentlemen that Universal sent out were very professional and polite.  They went out of their way to accommodate my needs and very large yard.  The job was completed in one day. There have been a few kinks since installation and I've had to have them back out twice.  Each time I've called they were still very polite and happily returned to fix the issue the very next day after calling each time.  I was impressed by this as they had already been paid and in my experience, companies are only prompt when there is a sale involved. Universal has far exceeded my expectations each time.  I have recommended them to a couple of friends thus far.  This is truly a company that stands behind their work!

I just wanted to thank everyone again for the excellent experience I had using your company for the 1st time. I called another company initially who said it would be 2 weeks before they could come out. I then remembered seeing your ad in the Heights newspaper.
On my initial call I went over what I needed done (fix/replace 5 under cabinet puck lite sets w/3 easy to replace fluorescent type lites and 2 recessed lites).
UW set a time for 3 workdays later to meet me at my house; they called 30 mins. ahead of our appointment so I could meet them on our scheduled time (11-1).
My UW technician was very pleasant, prompt, not pushy, and patient w/my questions. After our initial discussion of what I wanted done, he assessed everything and even provided a 40 pt. whole house/electrical box inspection to further provided me w/information of what he suspected may be problem areas in my home already - which I knew I had. After 40 mins. he wrote up 3 proposals and prices from his inspection and my to-do list.
I selected one of the 3 on his list and he went right to work. Of course I did not pick the best proposal, which included possible problems that could arise in the future but again there was no high sales pressure from him, which I appreciated very much. And to UW's credit they gave me a copy of the proposals for future reference so I may call them back and finish everything up at my convenience.
After 2.5 hours the job was completed to my satisfaction. On my drive back to work that afternoon, I received a followup call (to my surprise) and was asked how things went and was there anything else that they could do for me. I gave the caller a stellar report on his employees, thanked him for all of their help and relayed that in this day and age it is wonderful to find true customer service skills being relayed though out a whole company -- all 3 people I dealt with were the best I've had the pleasure/experience with in a long time.

Thanks again!

I called these folks out yesterday around 6:00 pm, they promptly showed up at 7:00 pm to service my electrical power switch on my furnace.  I thought this company is going to be good to work with.  That was until they wanted to charge me $2,050.00 to run 60 linear feet of wire back to the breaker box.  They also wanted to change out my 6 year old breaker box, add needless surge protectors and re run my appliance wires for $5,900.00.  I then called an honest company and he came out and with in an hour he changed out the burnt switch and a connection wire for 190.00.  This company is clearly based on over selling.  Just like John Moore, ABC Pest Pool and Lawn, ARS, etc.  Don't fall for that.

We had a circuit breaker installed several years ago in sweltering heat. The Universal Wiring electrician came out on a weekend & worked until the breaker box was installed. No other electric service company could come until Monday.
I would also recommend Universal Wiring for ceiling fan installation. Great work.

The guy was professional, nice and on time.

I had flickering lights in my house and the Universal guy had me convinced that I needed to replace the whole box for $3,500.00. I had Centerpoint Energy come out and as it turned out, my only problem was a loose screw (and Centerpoint fixed that with 2 turns of his screwdriver- for free).

Please get a second opinion if this company says you need a bunch of work.

I have to say I was very disappointed.  I contacted this company because of their good reviews only to be told that they would not install a new water heater at my rental property even though I own the town house and I personally  assured them they would be directly communicating/dealing with me the owner.  The reason I was given is because they have had bad experiences with payment from tenants.  Tenants are not responsible for repairs on rental properties  the owner is responsible.  I don't understand their reasoning; payment is always received at the time services is completed.  I don't know what transpired between past rental property owners but I do know this about myself I am a very responsible person and it's insulting that I am being punished for something I did not have a hand in.  So if you own rental property and need Universal Home Experts, I am passing along what was conveyed to me they don't do business with rental property owners.  I'm disappointed but wish them well.

Absolutly the best when it comes to troubleshooting electrical problems. Matt went above and beyond when performing each and every task asked of him. and now eveything works like new. If you want it done fast and right, Universal Electric should be the first call you make.
