Saved me $85! The power went out in my kitchen and could not get the breaker to switch back on. Tried using my home warranty but someone wouldn't be available for another week. I began calling around to see if an electrician could come reset it for us, as I didn't want the fridge to be without power for too long. I was quoted by another electrician $85 to come out for a simple fix. Called modern electric and was surprised to find out that the issue I was having was a very simple fix & a common mistake. Wil was very friendly and gave me instructions on how to fix the issue we were having over the phone. A little salty that I was quoted $85 for something the other electrician probably realized was a common mistake.

Needless to say, I will be returning to Wil for any electrical needs in the future!

I've known Wil Jackson and used Modern Electric for over 30 years, probably closer to 40. I have used him exclusively in three different houses over the years and have referred him to people countless times.  It is with great pain that I now have to stop recommending him and write this updated review. I've considered him a friend, but a friend does not do what he's done on our current job.

We ended up moving to Oxnard to a 108-year-old historic house that needed to have all the old knob and tube wiring replaced. We couldn't find a qualified person up here to do the job, so I turned to Wil and he agreed to do it. The only caveat was that I would have to pay for the extra mileage for his workers to drive up here, but it was a relief to know the work was being done by someone I trusted.

Little did I know, that wasn't going to be the case. Long story short, almost a year after the start date and nearly $100k spent...the first technician he sent up did some pretty good work, but then quit because (he says) Wil wouldn't pay his benefits and he could get better work elsewhere. An apprentice was also sent with this first guy, and I was paying him the same salary as the seasoned electrician. He ended up screwing up many things that had to be redone, so I was paying twice for so much work.

So when the first guy quit, it left me in a lurch with no work going on. Wil found another worker and sent him up here, he was okay but admitted that he wouldn't have known how to do all the previous work that had been done so far. Then I found that he was actually redoing work that had already been completed. For 2 days he undid all the new wires in the meter box and rerouted them. So that was 2 days of labor I had to pay to redo the first guy's work. And that happened quite a bit. This guy also spent a lot of time on the phone scheduling other jobs which would often mean he would cancel coming to my house if he found better work.

At some point in the job, our historical doorbell got disconnected. I told Wil it needed to be reconnected before the job is done. I just received an invoice today and he was charging me for a new transformer and wire, on top of paying his guys to fix the doorbell that his other guys disconnected.

That, too, has happened a number of times where I found materials I was being charged for that I shouldn't have been charged for. I also had to pay Wil to periodically drive up here to I guess check on the work being done. Most of the time was spent at my dining room table chatting about his family problems, but I was then charged for my friendly ear and advice.

The second technician also realized at some point how necessary he was to complete the job and decided he wasn't being paid enough so said he wouldn't return without a raise. Because I was paying Modern Electric for time and materials, and not a contracted price, I was stuck paying this ransom raise. I also had to pay for his workers supplies like plastic (which they often didn't use and got construction dust everywhere), and saw blades. I've never had to pay for a contractor's work supplies before.

Each time I brought this to Wil's attention, he took it as a personal affront and tried to make me feel bad for bringing it up. He'd say, What do you want me to do? to which I'd reply, You shouldn't have to ask after this many years in business. Maybe it's time for him to retire.

And lastly, his wife does all of his bookkeeping and often doesn't seem to know what she's doing. If you don't pay the invoice the day she sends it out, she harps on Wil to find out why it hasn't been paid. Normally, if there's no due date on an invoice, you have 30 days to pay it. His invoices had no due dates. But on day 2 if there was no payment made, they were harping on me to find out why. I finally told him to stop!  I said if they wanted instant payment the invoices had to say due upon receipt.  Even then, most businesses allow a grace period for payment. But not Wil's wife.  His workers told me that other customers complain about her all the time.

So, if you're going to use Modern Electric, I suggest you monitor the work constantly and monitor even more closely the invoices and what you're being charged for.

This is a very sad day for me to have written this review.

Unbelievably honest fellow. I had an issue with power going out in some parts of the house, and got all sorts of estimates from multiple electricians. I thought I'd call this one up, and over the phone Will walked me through on how to troubleshoot the issue and get the power back on. On top of that, he gave me a few very useful tips for the future. He didn't charge me anything.
There are few good professionals out there, but the honest ones are even fewer. Will is one of them and I really appreciated that.

Modern is does great electrical work, they helped me with an electrical issue in the house and worked quickly and efficiently. Highly recommend!

Will's crew was polite and clean, and I was initially satisfied with the work that was completed (adding indoor and outdoor outlets, installing new ceiling fans throughout the house), however Will's communication and scheduling was overall very poor. I requested a follow up visit to fix one of the new ceiling fans that was malfunctioning, and on two separate days he or his crew showed up without giving me any prior notice despite my repeated requests to please schedule a date and time beforehand. I found this very unprofessional and because of this I would not rehire or recommend.

Shoddy work at best, and not inexpensive. Will is a nice enough guy but unfortunately that doesn't make up for the absent customer service skills and poor work done by his crew.

I needed a broken light switch fixed and Wil came out and had it done in about 10-15 minutes. Super quick and painless. He was very considerate of my home and anyone else who may have been in the house, which was a very appreciated gesture.
Before he left, he asked if everything else was in good working order. He also showed me his cool Surface tablet with dual screens after I told him I had an Android phone.
Very nice guy, and pleasant to have a conversation with as well! Honest prices too.

Wil provided friendly, knowledgable advice and service at a fair price. He went above and beyond by finding a HVAC specialist to handle a related A/C issue safely and at a good price. Highly recommend.

Have had great experiences with Will. To be honest on one job he couldn't do it based on schedule but he helped another electrician we hired find a specific part to get the job done.

At this point, Wil is an important part of our maintenance team that we employ to cover our small real estate portfolio. He is honest, thorough in his work, very good at what he does, and knows the code very well (as well as how to work with inspectors). HE IS NOT CHEAP. If you are looking for a cheap electrician who takes short-cuts, Wil is not your guy. But he is top notch quality-wise.

I didn't realize when I moved into my condo that the recessed lighting in the kitchen and bathrooms used CFL bulbs that were difficult to remove because of the size of the bulbs and the tiny opening at the base of the can.  I decided to replace all of those lights with LED lighting and chose Wil based on all of the good reviews on Yelp.  I am now here to offer a good review myself.  He is very professional and keeps in close communication.  His guys were super nice and professional as well and didn't leave a mess behind.  Everyone wore masks during all of our in-person interactions.  And, I am very happy with the finished result!  If I have future electric/lighting work that needs to be done, I won't hesitate to call Wil.  Proud to support a local small business that provides great service.

Wil and his team at Modern Electric are helpful, thorough, accurate and careful with their work. We got 6 recess ceiling lights added to our living room ceiling and they look FANTASTIC. He also added a light above our staircase and fixed the other lighting to match and it is so much brighter and makes a huge difference in our new townhouse. They also went through and updated all of our old power outlets, hung a new light in the dining room, and also a new power outlet for our dishwasher. They were speedy, easy to schedule with and communicate - very happy with their work and will be using them again for any of our future electrical and lighting needs.

I used the Yelp quote service to get quotes from several electricians at once. Modern Electric responded right away and set up an appointment time.  Very responsive and professional.  They send appointment reminders as well.

The best! I got some quotes for upgrading my electrical panel and having it installed on the other side of my house, Wil's price was just right because he knows his stuff, some people came in too costly looking to make some easy money and some quotes were lower and seemed sketchy, But Wil and his team at modern Electric for the job and I haven't no regrets! Will and his crew installed this beautiful Deco light fixture for me today. I have lived here for 20 years and
always told my husband there just isn't enough light in this house especially the LR. I had to use all these lamps as there was nothing in the ceiling. I called Will at Modern Electric he gave me a reasonable estimate.
He came this morning with his crew and installed my light. They were prompt, knowledgeable, extremely nice and left my house clean. I will use his service again and have already referred to a friend.

Trustworthy company!! Saved us $2,500 by confirming we did not need a brand new fuse box, only needed 3 new circuits put in the house. Anthony and Carlos were so experienced and professional and paid attention to all the little details. They investigated the wiring and determined that the circuits needed to be put in a different place than originally determined. Taking this extra step, helped us in avoiding more problems in the future. Wil Jackson, the owner of the company, is reliable and true to his word. He will try to save you as much money as he can. He even said he would show my nephew how to change the light switches, so we could save money. He cares about his work, and enjoys being able to figure out how best to help you. We are VERY pleased with the work that was done, and would definitely hire Modern Electric again for any electrical issues.

Wil and his team are fantastic. I had multiple electricians come out to give me a quote on a level 2 Electric Vehicle installation. All of them tried to convince me that running a new line to the panel would be best, which also meant being a much larger job for them.  Wil saw that I had an existing 50 amp plug nearby that he could easily convert.  This honesty saved me a lot of money, and convinced me from the jump that Wil was the person for me.  I also had him install a new basketball court light and some Nest smoke detectors all in the same day.  His crew was extremely friendly, polite, and took all the right safety precautions. The work was done in a clean and efficient manner, with no easy shortcuts taken.  Will definitely hire them again for any of my next electrical projects.

I contacted Wil in the course of gathering estimates for an ever-shifting electrical+plumbing project.  Everybody had a little bit more information to drop, it was Wil who took the time to go in depth on background and codes, and he made a number of useful recommendations on the bigger picture as well.  If you'd like to draw on both electrical expertise and life experiences, this is your guy.  My project ultimately put us on a different route, but this is the only estimate provider I felt it was worth leaving a review for.

Highly recommend Wil and team.  Ours was a big job - installing new electrical panel and fixing some questionable work done to the house over the years.  They showed up when they said they would, worked quickly and kept work areas clean.  They also went out of their way to ensure minimal interuption for us working in the house while they completed the job.  The estimate was in line with others we received, but just had a good feeling about Modern Electric - and the results proved us right.

A few months ago we had problem with our smoke alarm. Of course to was a Sunday evening. Managed to find Wil at Modern Electric who walked through the solution to our smoke alarm problem via telephone. Since we've had him do a minor installation. Everything was professional including Covid hygiene. He's our new electrician.

Will and his crew did such a great job in re-wiring the electric in our house. What started as a few wires, turned out to be a much bigger job but we expected as much since our house is 80 years old. Totally trust these guys as they are perfectionists and gave us a very affordable quote. Highly recommend to anyone needing safe and reliable electric work.

Wouldn't recommend. Quote was more than 200% of the electrician we ultimately used. After submitting very thorough details via Yelp's 'request a quote', he responded with a quote and asked me to call him, so I called and he had no recollection of our message exchange. Despite providing my information again, he asked me to re-explain everything to him. He then went on to tell me how 'booked up' he is so he couldn't come sooner than a week.

He proceeded to make my single failed circuit breaker into a massive ordeal, demanding I text photos of the individual circuit breaker, breaker panel & breaker box, as well as the condo building electrical room and electric meter in our building's basement.

He suggested that our entire box may need replaced and he would want to clean residue from the panel. When I texted him all of the images he had asked for, he once again could not mentally connect me to the previous conversations we'd had (! this all happened in the same day !) and he asked me for the third time to provide my name, address, and email.

He was very short on the phone and overall not pleasant to speak to, kept cutting me off, so it was an easy decision to opt to find a different electrician.

Modern Electric is a great company!  Their folks are very knowledgeable, give great recommendations, professional, friendly and even flexible with to the customer's changing scheduling needs.  I highly recommend Modern Electric and will definitely return to them for future jobs!

Our smoke detector/co2 started beeping at night, due to a low battery.
We had no idea how to stop the beeping.  It had been a rough day for us and as seniors, we were very stressed.  Thank goodness we found Modern Electric at 8:30 in the evening!  He instructed us how to disconnect via the telephone.  So incredibly honest.  It was a Godsend.

Working with Wil was the best experience I've had with a contractor ever. He's a great communicator - I always felt like I was on top of what was happening next and any decisions that needed to be made. He and his assistant are respectful and efficient and so pleasant - which is important when someone's in every space in your house and garage.

I HIGHLY recommend Wilbur Jackson and his team. He was innovative in his approach to a solution for a lighting issue we had. He and his crew were clean, polite and on time. I was extremely impressed and so thankful I read the reviews about his work. they are TRUE.

Wil did a great job installing a clipper creek 240v level 2 charger at my house for my BMW i3. He showed up on time, kept the holes he needed to cut into the drywall small and patched them up,  and he finished the work in less time than what he quoted me. He even gave me a few pointers on how to maintain my kitchen sink and garage fridge. Really nice guy, and his cost was almost a third of the price of what Bosch quoted me.

We lost power in the master bathroom and all the light went out.  I called Modern Electric and spoke fo Zack.  He sent Mike who diagnosed the problem. The bathroom required re-wiring from the attic to the junction box to the electrical panel.  He did an outstanding job and did a good job cleaning up.
He returned a few days later and installed an extra light over the bathtub where none was there before. I can see so much better now.   He did that at no extra charge.  I cannot say enough good things about Modern Electric and Zack and Mike.  They are the best.  I would not hesitate to call them again.  I highly recommend them.

Wil Installed a Level 2 electric car charger for me last November plus added a couple of outlets elsewhere in the house. Installed a separate dedicated 40 amp breaker and ran a line under almost the length of the house. Work was neat and done under a day for a fair price

We called Will because we had some issues with our electrical circuit in the kitchen. Will walked us through the issue over the phone and told us how to reset the breaker. Not only did he tell us what to do but, but taught us more about our home and how to prevent this issue in the future. He didn't even charge us for the call. We will definitely be calling him again for future work on our phone!

Wil and Antonio did excellent work installing four new electrical outlets in our backyard. They came in on time and made sure everything is cleaned up and my doors and gates are locked before they headed out at the end of day. Wil also helped install a few ring cameras and motion detector lights for extra security. Price is very reasonable.

Wil installed a Level 2 charger.  He was prompt, engaging, and efficient.  He suggested several options for approaching my job including adding extra outlets for the future.  The run for my install was on the opposite side of my house.  I had received some outrageous quotes for this job.  Will's bid was very reasonable, but more over he spent time with me explaining the process and options.

He and his crew left the job site clean, and he followed up with me to make sure everything was satisfactory.  He took care of the city permit and had that in my hand within 10 days of the inspection.

I had a great experience with Wil this weekend, after a storm destroyed an outdoor outlet.  He was easy to reach, and even before we discussed my issues, Wil offered some electrical advice for my home (e.g., unplugging my toaster between uses), which gave me confidence that he focuses on safety beyond simply following electrical code.

I had a sauna that needed wiring. Wil came out the next day, gave me a fair estimate. He was a total pro. He wants to work hard for his clients & takes pride in his work and making sure I was more than satisfied with the results....

I had several electricians come to help solve a lighting fixture issue and they were stumped. Not only did Wil solve my problem within a few seconds he couldn't have been kinder or more knowledgeable. A genuinely nice person and extraordinarily helpful. He's my go to guy for electrical needs from now on.

I needed an oven detached from my store. It wasn't the usual unplug and it's ready to move type of oven. Wil was very prompt with his response, and gave me a very reasonable quote compared to the other electricians I've spoken with. He was even able to squeeze in a time for him to come out to do the job within 24 hours of speaking with him. He was professional from the moment of contact, all the way to the handshake at the end of the job. He even took the time to educate me on what he did and the whole process of it, which I liked. Will definitely call him again for future electrical issues.

Wil is really terrific!  My mom needed some work done 2 weeks ago and from beginning to end he was the best!  He put in a new 200 amp panel, new outlet in laundry room and moved/changed some wires on the roof in the backyard.  We just had him back today for a new job, he put in a wall heater and a new outlet in her bathroom.
He works fast and neat, is super prompt and he's very nice and calm especially when answering the same questions from me that I forgot I already asked.

Rapid response, deep expertise, and fantastic service - all with brilliantly clear communication.  Installed our EV charger, and solved a shorting issue with a pump that the pool guy installed wrong.  I don't even post on Yelp, but with our real-world friends Wil gets highest recommendation!

I have to say the best contractor I have ever worked with, Will was very professional and most important on timeat every stage . I had my electric hook up moved from one side of my house to the other per the Burbank city code because I'm having a pool installed. Will came up with a plan to help reduce the cost and time it took to do this and was at every meeting with BWP at my house. Nevertheless I had my final inspection and passed . Wil is great! He communicates everything very well, and he's very polite when I talk to him on the phone or when he's interacted with tenants on the property. He installed a new electrical panel for a 1940s duplex as well as rewiring. He kept me informed throughout the whole project, he listened to my wants/needs as well as offering helpful insight on things from his experience, and the pricing was below what I was prepared to pay (but the quality of work was top notch). Will was fantastic in calling me within minutes I sent a quote request. He was the first one. We were on the phone for 10 minutes and he walked me through what I need to do to restart by circuit breaker. I had lost power this morning because I had plugged in too many appliances at the same time. He was very generous with his wisdom and time, and he did it without charge. been great. He is our go-to electrician and has been very professional and responsive. He has installed motion detector lights around our house and repaired a broken light switch. So if you need someone who can do either of those things or anything else electrical, he's your man!

Wow!  What a reliable, experienced, genuine and professional electrician.  A House call is so affordable.  Explained in detail what was going on with my electrical panel and walked me through the tests he performed.  Made suggestions and did a check of the house to make sure everything was safe!  Give him a call!

Wilbur installed a Tesla Wall Charger on the side of our garage in advance of our vehicles delivery. He was very fast at getting back to me through Yelp, gave me an estimate through SMS from pictures and measurements I sent, and did the install without me being home and to perfect specification. The charger looks/functions great and we couldn't be happier. I'll post a picture of the install soon.

Wil replaced an overhead kitchen light fixture for me and did an excellent job at a very fair price.  His father-in-law, who was with him that day, even patched some holes where the old fixture had been!

I am not sure I will be doing the job I needed an estimate for but at least Modern Electric showed up to my home to give me an estimate.  I had a few other electrical companies that were supposed to show up and give me an estimate.  I waited for them at the agreed time and they were a no show.  I also had electrical companies that wanted to charge me $100.00 for a simple estimate.  If you call Modern Electric they well respond in a profession manner.

i was surprised how easy it was to work with Will Jackson. I did not have to take off from work. He installed my EV level 2 charger at the time that was convinient for me.I kept offerrng to pay  prior to the job but he insisted that the work must be finished first before any monetary transaction. He is very professional and knowledgeable in is field.

My husband had lined up other projects for him to do. We just found our electrician.

Just called Will when our electrician had to cancel last minute on our renovation. He wasn't available, but went out of his way to find a good electrician who was available to help us. He has been in the business for 30 years and I felt he was trustworthy and genuinely interested in the success of our project- and he wasn't even getting paid! He is definitely someone I would bring in for my home project.

We called to install a level 2 charger for our new EV car. Wil called back right away, gave me an estimate that was way cheaper than the other people we mentioned, did the work we asked him to, including pulling a permit with the city and meeting with the inspector to check on our work. I Recommend Will 10000%!!!! I didn't end up having to hire Will because the free advice he gave me over the phone for my partial power outage was Wonderful and Extremely Helpful.  On Saturday night we lost power and I left messages for 5 different electricians to call me back. All of the electricians were closed until Monday and I thought I was going to have to be stuck without power for the rest of the weekend. Will's office was closed too, but unlike all of the other electricians, he called me Sunday morning on his own time to ask questions about the problem and give me guidance over the phone. He told me to call DWP so that they could check the power pole and switches for free and find out if I really needed him to come over. DWP fixed the problem for nothing. If it hadn't been for Will, I would have had to spend a lot of money and be stuck without power for a long period. He's really kind, honest, knowledgeable and he has integrity. I saved his contact info in my phone and he will be the first electrician I call for any future power problems. Thank you so much Will, You're the Best!!!!

I needed a junction box for a security light for my garage.  I yelp-requested quotes from 7 electricians with 4+ star reviews.  I ended up going with Modern Electric after meeting Wil in person.  His wasn't the cheapest option, but I liked his communication and promptness.  He also informed me of a problem in my garage that I was aware of, and I added that to the job.  Fast forward to the job...Wil arrived earlier than expected, which I don't mind as I am an early riser anyway.  He performed the job requested with an hour and a half to spare based on the quoted time of 3 hours to perform the work.  I highly recommend Modern Electric due to the ease of communication, promptness, and quality of work.

I needed an electrician for a simple task of reversing the polarity on an outlet, but it needed to be coordinated with the arrival of a new appliance, and this was over the Memorial Day weekend. Much to my delight, I was able to talk Wil into sacrificing an hour of his Memorial Day and provide his expertise to help me.

Wil was quite punctual, and everything went off without a hitch. He was efficient, positive, paid a lot of attention to details -- and it was obvious to me that he cared deeply for a job well done. Although I only needed him for a small job, Wil demonstrated that he would be an excellence choice for a task of any size and scale. I highly recommend Wil. He installed a Clipper Creek charger next to our driveway. His prices were reasonable and he is very knowledgeable and professional. He's also a really nice guy. He hit a challenge with getting the power from our fuse box on the other side of our house to the driveway but he figured it out. He also did other electrical work at our house including installing lights in front of our house. Everything works great.  I would definitely use him again.

Will was prompt and professional.  He fixed the misconnections I made in installing my whole house fan and light switches.  He also cared enough to give me pointers on electrical safety for my family for battery and wired carbon monoxide/smoke detectors and GFI outlets for the exterior of the house and the kitchen.  Will use him again when I have my electric car charger put in.

Will showed up right on time and completed the job in less time than he had estimated.  He worked well with my handyman who was also working in my garage and they coordinated the electrical work and the drywall work.  I appreciate how Will easily became a team player.  Plus he brought his father in law along and my dog loved him.

I've been using Will for years. He's the only electrician I allow to work on my house. Yesterday was a perfect example -- half of my house was out of electricity -- he rearranged his schedule and was here first thing in the morning. He was quickly able to come to a solution (it was an LADWP problem). Will told me the right thing to say to them to get the problem solved.
