Terry's Plumbing

I would not recommend Terry's Plumbing to anyone. We had an appointment scheduled in the afternoon on February 8, and when my husband called to check-in with them on when they would be arriving, he was told there was an emergency, and all plumbers were pulled from jobs to handle. I understand things come up, but it was frustrating that we were reaching out for the update instead of them proactively notifying us that our appointment would be pushed out 1+ days. The individual who came to our house the following day did a great job, but was unable to complete all work that day, so he let us know we would be contacted by the company the following morning to set up the appointment to complete the remainder of the work. The following afternoon, we had not heard from them. My husband called to check in and we were told our appointment could be scheduled about a week later. Given that we were without a kitchen sink and water in our kitchen, he pushed back and asked that the project that was halfway done be prioritized ahead of new customers' work. He was told by the individual on the phone that she would talk to Terry given this information and get back to us with a date when the work could be completed. It is now April (2.5 months after the initial plumber came to our house and did half the work) and we have never heard back from Terry's Plumbing for follow-up to complete the rest of the project. Obviously, we were able to hire another plumber to come to our house that following day to complete the work for us, however, the lack of communication throughout the entire process of dealing with this company was highly frustrating and we will never use them again, nor recommend them to anyone we know, regardless of how skilled the individual was who did complete a portion of the work for us.

Terry himself was very good friends with my father, Frank, who gave him lots of business as a caretaker at a large apt. building in Bellevue.  Sadly, Terry has hired morons...as I will now explain.
Ad states  24 hour phones.  Called at 5:15 and got answering service. The young female Haley answering the phone fumbled thru the script and seemed to have no clue what I needed (very simple - replace a faucet and one of two shutoff valves right under it.  Repeated it.  Clueless.  Hung up as I was asking..so, when will someone call me...?????
Sink basin already was removed, wide open access.  Super easy.

Send a plumber Chris 11am next day.  Told him and showed him EXACTLY what to do.   He comes down and hands me a $306 estimate to replace TWO shutoff valves (including one which is fine..) and NOT INCLUDING installing the new faucet...  which he saw, new in box, sitting right there.   Immediately told him - this is now why I called, not what I said, not what I WANT   He persisted, would NOT replace faucet.  Inexplicable !!  Finally, told him to replace only the bad shutoff and to leave.   $268 for one valve that took him less than 10 mins.  Chris spent much more time telling me why he would not do the plumbing work I wanted done  !!!  Called and asked for Terry to call me...no return call after two days.  How sad.   From Haleys apparent poor instructions to Chris inability to listen to why he was there and what I wanted done ....AWFUL experience.  
A once quality plumber now turning into the new Gileece  ??!!!!!   Never,  ever call these people...even with a bone simple job like this

We have had a lot of plumbers to the house in an attempt to solve our drain issues. Roto Rooter had us in for nearly $5k to rip up our drains and relocate our house trap. None of that needed to be done. Terry came out and snaked the line fixing the problem for $150. Terry had been to our place before. In that instance, he surveyed our utility room where we had a leak we could not trace. Again, the plumber we had out before we called Terry had us considering multi thousands of dollars to replace old iron pipes. Terry saw that our utility sink had been pushed up against the wall and that the old rusted water faucet that had been rigged up by the previous owner was where the water was coming from. He told he could fix it for a a little over a hundred bucks but that I could easily do it myself. This was on a Sunday! He could have easily done the work and taken my money. I consider it honest that he didn't. He gave us great advice, free of charge. Now that is an honorable proprietor, if there ever was one.

Needed a sewer line inspection as part of buying a house. They were initially very responsive--scheduled the inspection within a week, arrived on time to do the inspection. We paid when they were done.

Then, nothing. They never delivered a report or an estimate. When I called, I was told they had to check with the plumber and would get back to me. Never called back, never sent the report. They completely screwed me over. Pocketed my money for the inspection and ran. (Ironically, had they just delivered the report I paid for, I might be hiring them for a multi-thousand dollar job right now. But instead I'm writing this bad review.)

The only plumber I'll ever call. On a Sunday afternoon, the hot water faucet in my laundry tub would not shut off. Two other plumbing companies (you've seen their commercials) said they couldn't come out until Tuesday. I called Terry's Plumbing and left a message. Terry himself called me within 10 minutes. We talked and he was at my house within another 10 minutes. He took care of the problem. I could not be happier.  I highly recommend Terry's Plumbing.

The workers are nice and know their stuff. They charge a little less, but remember you get what you pay for.  The work passed inspection but what was left in/of our front yard has left several knowledgable people surprised and all recommended we ask for it to be fixed. The owner seems to be about the money, not the customer.  So while the job passed inspection, dealing with the owner is reason for us to not recommend him.

We had a sewer backup on Saturday New Years day.
We have sewer insurance but when I called they could not come till Monday.
I have used Terry's plumbing on two other occasions and I was always very happy with them.
I did not want to call them as the insurance would of paid for the fix.
I could not wait 3 days to get a plumber so I had to call Terry.
Terry himself came on New Years day and snaked out the sewer.
What a godsend as we could not use the toilets or the water or shower.
Terry was in and out in 20 minutes and I was extremely happy with his service.
If you are looking for a plumber you can not go wrong with Terry's Plumbing.

Terry himself came out to evaluate the job and gave me an estimate right on the spot. It was a fair and accurate estimate and every step of the process was explained and very professional. Guys who came out were great and even helped save my ground cover!  This was a really tricky job that included a retaining wall, freezing temperatures, and rain. I would highly recommend Terry's to anyone looking for an emergency repair. Terry is also a dog lover and does work for the Humane Society, which gave him bonus points for me!

The water company broke our gas line while working on our street. No hot water, stove or heat in December. After two full days of phone calls back and forth to water company and gas company, we were told that the gas company could not do it and that we needed to hire a plumber to fix the gas line and then dispute the charges. The work entailed digging up our sidewalk to find the gas leak.

We called Terry's Plumbing in the evening and Terry agreed to come out the next morning. However, he also told us to call the gas company back, that he knew for a fact we were getting the run around and they could and should fix the leak. We did that and were finally able to reach a supervisor at the gas company who could help us. They fixed the leak and there were no charges on our end to dispute. Terry could have come out and made a nice fee on the job but instead saved us a small fortune and big headache.

I had such a great experience working with Terry from Terry's Plumbing that I need to tell my story.
My sewer backed up a few weeks ago, unfortunately at the same time my mother passed.  I called another service I had used years ago to clean it out.  They now advertise themselves as the best in the business.  For a low price they offered to clean it out. A quick service and camera inspection was done.  I was presented with a 'Proposal' for $9000 for a complete sewer line replacement under the house.  I was also told lines from the slop sink needed replaced and possible we would have to blow out under the front porch for an extra fee.  Needless to say I was floored.  I was told the system was blocked, was temporarily opened but would fail.
Needless to say, I was devastated.
At that point I started researching other options.  One person I contacted was Terry.  He assuaged my concerns and thought there may not really be that big an issue.  We decided to wait a couple of weeks to see what happens.  Of course as suspected it backed up.
Terry came himself this week and worked on the line and had it completely cleared out in an hour.  He showed me the complete line on camera as he finished.  And...all for less than $150.00.
What a great man!  Wonderful, personable and most importantly Honest!  
Even thought I was in the midst of my Moms passing the other company still tried to take me to the cleaners.  They called and emailed me when I cancelled.  Run, don't walk when what you are told doesn't seem right.

it's New Years day
and of course our sewer back ups ...
Incase you don't know the real reason for the Pittsburgh Potties
is so folks would know when their fancy new city sewer was backing up
called the sewer line insurance co. Of course they can't come for 3 days
We don't have an outhouse so thats a problem.
A few years back Terrys plumbing installed a toilet for us we were satisfied.
I figured a phone call can't hurt.
Terry called me back 10 min later
1 hour later he was at my door
1/2 hour later sewer unclogged
The price he quoted on the phone was the price we paid.
It was not as cheap as some of those other companies advertise BUT Terry himself was here on New Years day and we can now flush our toilets and wash our hands etc.

We had a clogged drain tonight that we could not unclog with a plunger or a snake, we called several plumbing businesses willing to pay the after hours fee fearing it would overflow onto our floors. Finally I got a hold of Terry from Terry's Plumbing. He told me it would be about $200 to have someone come out but if I didn't mind saving the money, he could talk me through it. I'm not handy by any means but he was able to talk me through the repair and it was fixed in 3 minutes- for FREE! What a great guy. If you need a plumber, call Terry. We'll be calling him for all our future needs.

We have 2 four year old toilets that were becoming hard to flush. I expected a change to the handles and flush tower gaskets.  Instead he recommended a brand new $498 toilet to replace each.  I declined.
The plumber only adjusted the water level in the tanks of each. It cost me $160.00.
Not much help.

Very disappointed.  Plumber had a bad attitude when he walked in the door and was very unprofessional.  

We had a drain issue under the bathroom where the drain ran below the toilet along the ceiling of the garage.  Our contractors who was working on our bathroom remodel provided specific information of where the issue was located drain and suggested I get a plumber to assist to help save money.  We called plumber to assist with fix which would require opening the drywall in the ceiling of the garage to look at drain pipe.  

Plumber was annoyed that he didn't have a ladder that could reach to 12 foot ceiling and argued with our contractors on the phone about the issue trying to say that it had to do with bathroom remodel.  He was unwilling to take the time to open up drywall and look at the issue.

Our contractors(who are very reputable) quietly said on the side that we should let him go.

We are very easy to get along with as people and bend over backwards(sometimes to a fault) for people when we ask for help.  This gentleman was unprofessional when he walked in the door and started complaining right away when he saw what the job entailed.  In the end, we paid 69 dollars for someone to come in and complain, leaving the only recommendation which was re-set the wax ring in the toilet which was completely ridiculous.

I used them before for a hot water tank and I thought the job was ok.  I won't be using them again.

I have NEVER been so disappointed in a plumbing business in my life. Lazy, inconsiderate, the woman are especially ignorant. I will NEVER use them again and will make sure to tell everyone the same! Stay away! They are the worst Mertz in the business.

Bought an older home a few years ago and had a myriad of plumbing issues. Terry and his employees were honest, very reasonably priced and did a timely and thorough job both times I needed their help. Terry even walked door to door with my wife to ask neighbors if we could hook up to their water while ours was down for a few days as we waited on the incompetent Pittsburgh water and sewer authority to fix our line.

We recently decided to refinance our mortgage during the historically low interest rates and needed to schedule a dye test in short order. Terry's got us on their schedule and took care of filing everything we needed without any fuss.

We appreciated their response times and their ability to work with us to
get the paperwork over to the borough.

Our only complaint is when we went to pay in person, the receptionist was not wearing a mask. I kept my distance but still it made me uneasy and I self quarantined for 10 days afterward.

I had Terry's Plumbing replace my copper lines with PEX after getting a few quotes from other plumbers. Terry was great at explaining the work that needed to be done and was almost $1,000.00 lower than Matt Mertz. I'm very happy with the work Terry's Plumbing did and have recommended them to family and neighbors.

I had plumbing issue of a snake that broke off while having my drain snake, which caused my basement drain to backup.. Moving forward had several plumbers come out reach all said basement floor needs dug up to access the pipes.  All need replace with cost upwards of $4500. And up.. once all realize insurance was involved definitely it needs to be done.. this morning I got up went walking, prayed, let the last plumber come, when I called and canceled yesterday.  Terry's plumbing came today within 10 minutes, reach into drain pulled and broken snake out, and said do not pay anyone for something doesn't need repaired! God is so Amazing! Thank You Terry's Plumbing!

I cannot think this company enough. I have a business in Wexford and my toilet broke, and from the receptionist to Derek who was sent out on a moments notice fixed everything and we are back in operation. They will for ever have my business!

Terry's Plumbing provided the best plumbing services with overdue water valve replacements and other vital repairs.  Jay worked very efficient and top quality plumbing work and the cost was reasonable.  
Plus, Terry's Plumbing responded quicker than the other companies.

We first used Terry's plumbing last year for a second opinion after the plumbing company associated with our home warranty tried to tell us we had a problem with our plumbing that would be over 10,000 to repair. Terry came and found a problem that was under 200 dollars to fix. He is honest, reliable, and responsive. This year, we had another small backup in our basement. Terry came again quickly and fixed the problem and even made a return visit to assess the issue. We will be using him exclusively in the future for any future problems and will recommend him to anyone local!

Someone stole pipes from our house and our plumbing was a mess. The first plumber we called refused to even touch the problem. Terry's came in and replaced the hot water tank and missing pipes. They really stepped up and saved us before the cold weather hit.

We nearly had to abandon the house in the middle of the pandemic. They really came through for us.

Thank you Terry's Plumbing for the fantastic job that you did fixing my gas line and meter! They came right away to fix the problem after a large tree fell and damaged my gas line and meter, leaving me with no gas, no hot water, etc. Terry and his plumbers were not only incredibly knowledgeable, skilled and professional, they were also very kind and courteous. I highly recommend them for any job, large or small!
FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY!!!

Outrageously priced.  We arranged for Terry's Plumbing to come and replace the insides of our toilets.  I provided the brand of our toilets.  The plumber arrived, said he did not have the necessary parts, but told me he could go get them.  When I asked for an estimate, it was $249 per toilet plus the $69 service fee.  $569 to repair 2 toilets!  

I promptly paid the $69 service fee and sent him on his way.

Today, I just had both toilets repaired for a total of $160!

Unless you like to pay for over-priced repairs, I would not recommend Terry's Plumbing.

I had a terrible experience with Terry's. They came to my house and refused to fix a clearly leaking pipe.  I told them I was worried about it breaking during a vacation and was told that, yes it could break and I should just turn off my water to make sure it didn't. I called their manager and got an even more sarcastic response to my request to help before I wrote a negative review...... suffice it to say, my results did not change. I do not recommend them and think that their attitude toward serving customers working through home warranty companies is to choose jobs they know they will make the most money on. If that is the case, I would say it's unethical.
