We originally called them near the end of April 2016 about a leaking toilet. They sent a certain Dennis on April 25th. Dennis said he could put the toilet back into new working condition for $345. I told him that I could get an entirely new toilet for about $125, so for that price it better be like new. He said that would be the case and we agreed to the price. He also told me the work is guaranteed for 90 days.
Dennis removed the toilet from the floor and replaced the seal, then he replaced the innards with a new mechanism, and he replaced the hose outside the toilet, connecting the toilet to the wall.
About five weeks later, the person who lives below us (we are on the 4th floor of a six story apartment building) knocked on our door to say there was a leak. We went and investigated and indeed there was a slow drip coming from the toilet bowl. We immediately shut off the water and called Giannone. They told me to come home from work the next day and they'd be there between 12 and 2. I asked that they please send somebody other than Dennis. Nobody showed up, nobody called. My time is valuable and at 3pm I had to return to work. Somebody eventually showed up after 3pm. I called Giannone and they had no explanation for why I wasn't contacted. They told me to stay home again the next day in the morning. That morning somebody did show up, and it was Dennis again. He tromped in full of attitude, looked at it for five seconds, turned a bolt half a turn and said there, it's fixed. I asked him why it was like that in the first place. He said talk to Joe. I said you put this in wrong, who's going to fix the ceiling of my neighbor? He said it's been months and I have no idea who messed with it. Well it had only been five weeks and nobody messed with it, nobody even used that bathroom since he was in there, it is in our guest apartment. Dennis continued acting like a little child, he huffed out, overflowing with attitude and refusing to take responsibility. He just kept saying talk to Joe.
So I called Joe Giannone and told him the story. He said he had to come see it himself. He came over the next morning and looked at it and said that it isn't fixed, and indeed it was still dripping even after Dennis claimed he had fixed it (twice). He said there were some bolts inside the toilet bowl that needed to be replaced and he could quote me a price. I said I already paid $345 to (A) fix a leak, and (B) put the toilet back into new working condition. And furthermore, my neighbor's ceiling needs to be repaired. Joe then said yes, but these bolts were not part of the job. I said, how can not fixing a leak not be part of the job of fixing a leak? He had no answer; he just kept repeating the same mantra it wasn't part of the job. He then rather indignantly said Ok I'll fix it for you, no charge. I said thank you, and also my neighbor's ceiling. Joe refused to respond to this, even though I repeated it. So on top of this I will have to take Joe to court to pay for my neighbor's ceiling.
Three days later Joe calls me at 7am and says he has the bolts and he wants to come over this morning, at 9am. He didn't say he'd be there between 9am and noon, he said 9am and I said ok, I will move my morning meetings to wait for him and I'd see him then. 9am came and went, 10am came and went, nearing 11am I had to leave for work. Joe never gave me his phone number, I had to go through their central system to try to track him down and at this point I was tired of their games. I never did hear from Joe again, he never called to explain why he didn't show up; he never followed up in any way, obviously expecting that if I don't continue to track him down and sit waiting hour after hour while he may get here at his leisure, then he's off the hook.
In summary, they never admitted to any culpability. To them fixing a leak does not really mean fixing a leak and putting a toilet back into new condition doesn't really mean that either, even if you pay double what it costs to replace it with a new one. And to add insult to injury, it turns out the parts they installed are faulty, the toilet does not fill unless you open the back and flick the thing by hand that they installed, and then it does not stop filling unless you open it and flick it again. Whatever they used is so cheap that we had to replace everything. So we just got a new toilet (and great service) from Wexler Plumbing, for much cheaper than the price Giannone charged us to not fix it.
We then charged this back through our credit card company. Giannone never contested the charge back, because obviously they had no ground to stand on.
In summary, steer clear of these clowns they're incompenent, rude and have no interest in doing the right thing.
