Just had an A/C tuneup. Lloyd was my technician. He was thorough professional, and timely. Definitely  an asset to the company. Kudos to Lloyd.

This story begins Christmas Day 2022. I'd seen the signs before. My furnace was on the fritz. The blinking light that I've come to hate on my Beckett Oil burner was flashing. I tried to soft and hard reset it and that was not working. So I called around. One of the leading HVAC companies that I have used in the past was not available until Thursday, so I chose Horizon, who had an appointment for the next day according to their online booking system, which they tout heavily.

So I booked an appointment online on Monday for a Tuesday 8am-12pm window. Nobody came. I called at 12:15. I was told the appointment never made it to the dispatch people. So they told me definitely they would have someone out that night 8pm-12am. Nobody came. Called at 12:15am. Was told that someone was finishing up a job and they would get to me next. It's now 4am and... Nobody came. Finally got the dispatch to send someone at 9am Wednesday. That's a full 24 hours I waited, without sleep for them to show up.

My oil furnace needed a new blast tube cap ($15 part) and the burner needed routine maintenance, They quoted me $600. Fine. It's the middle of the winter and I have no heat, so I'll take a bit of a shake. I was told if I needed a whole new blast tube assembly, it would be $1600, or an additional $1000. The issue here is that the technician told me it would have been easier to replace the whole tube assembly than it would have been to just replace the cap. This raises the massive question: Why does a service on a $15 part cost $300 and an easier service on a $50 part cost $1600?  That is $1000 for a $50 part.

On top of all of this, after receiving my invoice via email, I noticed that I had been auto-enrolled in their service program for $300. After calling and stating that I had not agreed to this, I was refunded $218.

So I initially paid $300 for a tune up and $300 for a $15 part replace (all good), and after questioning the membership charge, ended up paying about $382 for the service. I would have been fine with that from the start. Let me show you how you can get taken advantage of:

Not sure why getting a quote from the two contractors that I ordered deemed- virtually impossible. very expensive and they don't know the difference between having someone come out to do a quote or someone coming out to do maintenance. Would NOT RECOMMEND.

I'd give zero stars if possible.  The worst experience I've ever had with a company. Lied about our heater being broken. A friend who works in the industry came to our aid after horizon made us sign a waiver saying if we ran our system and got carbon monoxide poisoning it wasn't our fault. The problem they diagnosed which allegedly rendered our heater useless was non existent and we went 2 months last winter without running our heat before we turned it back in and haven't had any issues since. They said we would need a new unit at the cost of close to $10k. The most ironic thing is that they told the same story to our senior neighbors and they bought into it.... Shame shame shame

Horizon  took over First Class I guess, and not for the better. They are way over-priced and don't seem to have qualified, seasoned technicians. They come up with one or more costly problems every time you have them do a simple seasonal tuneup (even on a new system). Give me a break. I'm stopping at 2 strikes. No more seasonal checkups by them at this house. (And stop adding a fuel charge to your 'advertised' tuneup 'specials'.  Gas is no longer $4.99 a gallon!)

Horizon Services salesperson misled, over promised and eventually overcharged us the installation of new HVAC system. My two neighbors installed the same unit at ~$3000 less!  Calls to their customer care department and manager were basically got ignored.

I want to give zero stars. Just needed things cleaned. It was 75 no matter what. So they came. They cleaned. And it went up to 83. When they came back they told me the thing they cleaned was broken and had to be replaced for $500. If it wasn't 102 degrees today there's no chance they'd get a dollar. But just fix it. You're awful. How aren't you ashamed of your practice and business? Don't use them. Sweat. Die. Move. Just do not give them business. Ask around. Read reviews. I'm just the latest in a long line of it suckers that keep their lights on. I'd rather hit myself in the nuts with a hammer than ever use them for anything ever again. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

Before beginning, I'll mention that Horizon schedulers and most of the technicians we dealt  with this week were polite and responsive. But our story is almost beyond belief!

We started with our Tuesday air conditioner tune up. Our AC was working fine when two technicians arrived on time, and proceeded to clean up our two units, one for the upstairs, the other for the downstairs. Do you have any vinegar? I was asked...presumably for cleaning the pipes. Odd I had to supply their supplies. After they finished the tuning/cleaning, I was told we needed 2 compressors @ $500 each, or $1000 worth of refrigerant. We passed and they left after we paid $179 (two units=2 charges). I asked if we got our included free refrigerant...yes, but only in one of the units as they other was full. Could you then put the unused free from one unit into the other? No! Sort of like having 2 people order a burger with fries...one says the other can have my fries but the waiter says no he can't.

Almost immediately the downstairs unit stopped pumping cold air. I called Horizon the next morning. Technician #2 arrived on time. He started working on the downstairs unit, and concluded after much work that our problem lied with the return vent. He did some things and left.

At this point Horizon refunded our $179. Apologies accepted.

But still no cold air. On Friday, I called Horizon again. Technician #3 arrived on time and proceeded to spend a couple hours on the downstairs unit. He finally concluded that the problem was that technician #1 didn't clean the outside unit properly. He spent half an hour hosing it down, said  we had enough refrigerant and left after checking the temperature which he said was fine. I tried to convince myself and wife that cold air was finally coming out of the vents. But my wife said not...and she was right.

So Friday evening I called Horizon for another appointment and Saturday technician #4 arrived on time. He checked out the downstairs units and concluded that we needed refrigerant, with a possible leak. We agreed to try adding the refrigerant, hoping it gets us through the summer before we will likely need to replace the 11 year old unit (which was purchased through Horizon, and came with a 10 year warranty that they had honored for the upstairs unit). After he added the refrigerant ($485)  I noticed that he put it in the wrong unit!!! Or did he....nope, I traced the pipes and sure enough he got it right. Technicians #2 and #3 were working on the wrong outside unit! I wonder if they damaged it with all the fussing.

Bottom line is we spent many hours with technicians who didn't check to see that they were working on the right air conditioner. Not to mention the sales pitch we got from the first technician.

I give Horizon credit for sending teams out until they finally got it right. I would like to given them business for replacing the leaking unit (if it is indeed leaking) given their past service and warranty but should the fool me once (or thrice) saying apply?

Epic.

On service call for AC not working and condenser frozen the technician offered that we could just have new refrigerant put in the system but since that type of refrigerant was no longer made it was really expensive. It might be 1500 dollars and 500 dollars to find the leak with special electronic detector. we might want to just go ahead and replace the Indoor (evaporator coil) and outdoor portions (condenser unit)and that would be about 8-10,000 dollars. He called back to say, Well I checked and I think I can just top of the refrigerant for about 1200 dollars. In January the wholesale price was 20-50 dollars per pound and our unit if completely empty would need 3 lbs. The website quoting those prices warned that a service company will charge 50-150 per pound. That is a bit pricey but understandable . However 400-500 $ per pound is obscene!!! I will never trust them for service. If they will rip you off that much on simply filling your tank can you imagine how much they will inflate an installation. Thousands of dollars I am sure.
Called another local company that could not come out for about 10 days but would charge $62/lb. Next company I called came the next morning and charged $100/lb.

Worse company I've ever worked with.  Not only did they overcharge me for a new HVAC system, but their service is unreliable.  Have tried getting my system serviced for the season and on the day of the service they cancel. This is reoccurring.  They have scheduled for a month later. Do you homework and check pricing and services with other companies.  Fooled me once, never again. Terrible company.

Let me start by saying, I have been using Horizon Services for many years. I have always been satisfied with their work. As you can see from the other reviews, they overcharge for their services. I am aware that they are probably not the best as far as the price but I like the warranty and I've never had an issue dealing with customer service. That is until now. I am still satisfied with the work but they beyond overcharged me for this job. My sink in the kitchen was leaking. Water was pouring out of it. They charge you for just coming out and diagnosing the problem. I feel like I was taken advantage of because I was in need of getting this problem fixed. The price to replace a garbage disposal and faucet was ridiculous. I was charged like almost triple what it should cost. Like I said, I don't mind paying a little more for quality work but this went to predatory level. I will have to look for another company for my home repair needs because I don't want to deal with a company that has no problem ripping off its loyal customers.

***Update 4/13/22: A rep from Horizon called me to see what they can do to resolve my dissatisfaction. We were able to resolve the issue. I really appreciate them taking the time to make sure they have a satisfied customer. That is very important to me.

I wish I had never bought a heat pump from Horizon.  We have 13 years of free service but good luck trying to get them to come.  This week was the annual tune up.  You would think they would know to bring an air filter.  Rocket science, huh?  But no, I have another 4 hour window to sit home and wait for them to come and put that in. He is late and I cannot deal with the rude receptionist again.  Never, ever buy from these people.  It is not worth the aggravation.

After submitting this review, Horizon called and made amends.  3/30/2022
I am satisfied with their peace offering.

On Monday, Feb 7th we had a tech visit after our heater stopped working.   We were told it would be appx $5,000 to fix and that the issues with out oil tank would have to be fixed by another company.

A few hours later, we received a quote for a brand new system with oil tank for just over $26,000.

The next morning we had an honest company send out a tech, who fixed the issue for less than $200.

I don't care if our house is freezing or 100 degrees.   I will never, ever, ever do business with Horizon again and have told every friend in the area to stay away.

Unacceptable business practices.   It's clear from talking to friends and reviewing other posts, there is a clear culture problem with this company.

This was not a good experience and I am happy that I did my homework and solicited 3 quotes before committing to any company. I am not going to bash them publicly since the manager called me for details about my experience.

Don't be in too much of a rush or a panic when your system fails but instead take your time to research companies before committing.

My resolution came from a small company and I am very pleased.

We had AC water leaking problem and we thought the issue was caused by previous work completed by Horizon when our heater was replaced and requested a service repair. Technician that came to check the A/C told us that repair would cost $371 in total. We did not want the repair done by Horizon but he spoke to his Supervisor and offered a lower price, we further negotiated and he agreed for $100 in total after confirming with his Supervisor(to clean the drain pipe). He wore shoe cover the first time he entered our house but then removed and did not wear if for the rest of the time, he left the place messy(left the A/C filter panel open, left the A/C filter lying on the ground, did not clean up the water spill, did not replace caulking in A/C drain pipe). He then asked for $209 which included dispatch cost and fuel cost. When we questioned the amount , he became loud and made harsh comments, he said that we brought the cost down from $600 to $100 and now trying to bring it down even further.

He also said that we have the option of not making the payment and can sign a form and Horizon won't come back to our property again. We have received services from Horizon for 8+ years and never had a problem before!

After service, I found one hole in duct pipe and one sharp screw in the driveway.

Sad to say that we are very unpleased with the service that we received this time!

I hired Horizon Services for an AC tuneup for Wednesday, July 29th, but a couple hours before my appointment, someone called me to reschedule it to Sunday, August 2nd.  I made this appointment 3 weeks in advance, so I was a little annoyed, but I decided to give them another chance.

It's Sunday, August 2nd and I waited from 12 PM to 4 PM, but no one showed up and no one called me.  It was a complete waste of my time. I promptly fired them. I called their office number and was connected to the scheduling department. I was told that the tech was still working on another job and was asked if I'd like to reschedule.  I kindly asked them to cancel.  I'd be a fool to let them waste my time again.

There was no mention of the on-time or it's free guarantee.

I'd appreciate it if they sent a small gift card for all of my time they wasted.

08/03/2020 11:55 AM  No, my concerns were never addressed.  Sending a message to Dave

08/10/2020 1:21 PM. Last week, I received a call from Krystal their Customer Relations Manager.  She was very pleasant to talk to and listened to all my concerns.  She assured me that they will follow up to see why I wasn't offered the on-time or it's free guarantee.

Today I received a $25 gift card as I requested for the inconvenience this caused. This is one of the rare companies that follows up on any concerns.

Thank you!

Over charged for heating and cooling system.  Need to use them to keep the warranty on my systems. Called for annual services 6 months in advance and 30 minutes before they are to show up, they canceled.  Have had it done twice already.  Once you become a customer, you are at their mercy for annual services. Would never recommend this company to my worst enemy.

I had scheduled a heater tune up 2 weeks in advance for Friday Oct 28th. I got a call while at work on Friday afternoon a few hours before the apt timeframe in which I was told they had alot of emergencies and would need to reschedule. I wasnt able to call back until today Monday Oct 31rst. I expained what happened and asked to reschedule for this week or next week. I was told their next appointment wouldnt be until January! I was shocked and said to her they had canceled on me and now they cant fit me in? She said they could put me on a cancelation list. The Horizon represenative said I would be fine to wait for a tune up bcs all they do is clean the heater. For me its also a time to catch small problems before they become large expensive ones especially since my heater is over 10 years old! She offered to put me on the cancelation list again. Im now left with trying to find a company not already booked up  and I now will have to pay full price when I do. Horizon had a special running for $79 that ends today. That was the whole point of scheduling in advance. I did everything right and still got messed over by Horizon. I wont be considering them for my HVAC needs in the future. Ill have to put more effort and likely more money out bcs of of a decision they made for the bussiness that left a customer out in the cold-so to speak. Actions speak louder then words.

I used Home Advisor to hire a plumber to install a toilet bowl, 2 faucets (kitchen and bathroom) and to replace the faucet in my yard. I was given a fixed-price rate of under $300 (after signing up for their annual discount program).

One and a half hours before they were supposed to show up on the morning of the job, I received a text saying they needed to reschedule. They assigned me a new date and time, which wasn't acceptable since I had to be at work then.

When I called, the customer service rep was very nice and offered to connect me to a local plumber, but said that I would have to go by their standard pricing. That's how I came to deal with Horizon.

The person came to the house and gave me a quote of $1,917. That was completely unexpected given the Home Advisor pricing, but I needed the work done so I agreed.

The technician, Aaron, said he didn't have one part and rather than go back to the shop to get it, he would start the job first thing in the morning (today, 4/09/21) so he wouldn't have to jump from job to job on a Friday.

However, I received a call this morning saying Aaron wasn't available today (I heard him schedule the job with the dispatcher yesterday, so I don't know why that would be the case). They asked me to reschedule. I explained that I had been referred to them by Home Advisor specifically because the previous plumber rescheduled and I needed the work done ASAP.

They couldn't care less about not honoring their commitment to do the job today or that I was being inconvenienced. When I said I didn't want to reschedule and to just cancel the job, they were more than happy to do so. It obviously wasn't a big enough project for them to be concerned about me going elsewhere.

I would never use this company (or Home Advisor) for anything in the future. I found both companies to be completely unreliable. If you choose to use either, I hope you have a better experience, but I felt compelled to write a review to give everyone fair warning.

Called Horizon to have them install an Ecobee smart thermostat. The people on the phone had no problem when I told them the make and model. The service technician arrives and tells me they don't typically install smart thermostats and it's going to be $600 to install it. Wut? Maybe mention that on the phone before charging a $90 fee to come out. Feel like I just got the bait and switch. Never using this company again for anything that's for sure.

I had Horizon in to check my air conditioning unit. They told me (a) it was a heat pump, and (b) it needed to be replaced for over $8000. I called another contractor for a second opinion. He told me (a) it's not a heat pump, just an air conditioner, and (b) he'd fixed a loose wire and it should work fine now. (Weeks later, it does.) I asked what I could pay him, and he said I could buy him a cup of coffee. I now don't trust Horizon.

Not I.

Have a contract with Horizon that included a free AC tune up. Called to schedule and was told that there were no available appointments through the rest of the summer. I asked to speak with a manager,as I already purchased this plan. Was put on hold and transferred to another department. Was told by THAT department there was nothing they could do and if my AC unit broke they would send someone out.

I called back and was told I could be put on a list if they maybe had an opening.

Totally unacceptable. I purchased a plan that said they would perform routine maintenance to prevent any issues and they are refusing to honor the contract.

Keep away from any of their alleged specials as they're still advertising services that they won't/can't schedule.

Been using Horizon for 5 years, but will be looking at other HVAC services after this screw up.

My furnace did not blow air and I called Horizon,  the technician arrived and did not even spend time diagnosing the problem and told the furnace is 19 years old,  your blower is out you can replace that for $1500 plus labor or I can have someone give a quote for new furnace.  I agreed for a new furnace quote and they arrived and gave a quote, after seeing the quote high,  I tried switching on the furnace and it started working and then stopped working again.  when I called another company,  they fixed it by changing the capacitor,  did not even cost $125 in total.  I paid $90 for Horizon for nothing,  they are more interested in selling new furnace by scaring customers with inflated repair costs.  I would never recommend anyone to use Horizon based on my experience.  I called them to fix this by atleast waiving my fees for wrong diagnosis and misleading me. Horizon has not returned the call and is no wonder their rating is so low.  I should have seen their rating before calling them.
Poor service and fraudulent sales tactics by Horizon.

I have yet to turn my heater in the home I just purchased as I wanted to make sure I could safely do do as this is the first winter in my new home. Our re-scheduled HVAC maintenance was accomplished today Jan 3rd .
As usual..the technicians were terrific...our service rep Cole was on time with a 1/2 hour pre call prior to his visit..he and I determined that we had never been contacted about spring HVAC maintenance ( which was never done and we were never contacted about our expiring maintenance contract) and he made sure that we had one scheduled ..Cole went above and beyond in calling supervisor Joe about a duct issue that may have been causing uneven heating and cooling in our basement and checked the return ducts on our second floor for the same issue..Joe came out next day and with Cole's help and put in a larger return duct that had been improperly sized by Jos Fredrick and Sons in our basement and suggested that we call One Home Air for additional duct work on the 2nd floor as Horizon doesn't really handle that sort of thing..
We hope to be 5 stars soon .A terrific experience this time!!

I have had a maintenance agreement with Horizon for over 20 years. In the past few years their service has continued to deteriorate and today was the final straw.  At the beginning of December I phoned to schedule my winter tune up and was told that the earliest date they had was in mid December. After complaining they found a new date of October 20 (today). This morning they canceled this date and  gave me a December date which is already well into winter! I will now reluctantly have to look for a new company to do business with. My advice is not to rely on Horizon or what they tell you-they are completely unreliable!

Only reason I am stuck using them is for the warranty.
First person said they could not find when the AC was installed. Wanted me to wait 2 weeks for someone to look at it and verify the warranty.
2nd call. 430 Guy found it right away. Says will send to a supervisor with 2 hours due to special need.
Supervisor calls and says someone will be there between 6-10.
3rd call at 930. We called them. We are toldS you are not scheduled. House is still 80. Daughter with breathing issues. Had to call them again. They messed up. Its now 945 supposedly Someone is being sent out.

Never trusting Horizon Services, and here's why:
Our first-floor toilet clogged, wouldn't flush. Plunged for awhile but nothing was helping. We find out water was leaking into the basement. Remove the toilet and call Horizon on a Sunday afternoon. Spoke to someone but no one is available until tomorrow. Now their site says same day service or its free, cool. We used a neighbor's snake machine, but that only had 50' of line and we didn't really feel a clog removed.
Monday, Horizon comes to clear my line. Tells me he felt something push out at about 60'. I asked to have my line camera'd because this is the 2nd major clog we had since moving in 2 years ago. Only 2 people live in this house, and it seems odd we experienced 2 major backups. He says someone will be out tomorrow to camera. He was nice.
Next day, Michael T comes to my house, he stinks of cigarettes and isn't friendly. He camera'd my line and tells me I have channel rot, roots growing through and holds water. I took pictures and video just in case. He runs through hypothetical plumbing issues to scare me and make me think a full sewer replacement is 100% my only option. He canvases outside and says the crew will have no issues digging. In retrospect, cannot believe I trusted him.
Next week the Horizon replacement crew arrives before 9am, they mark and camera my sewer again. 2 hours go by and nothing is accomplished. Learn a Horizon supervisor is now on site, Mike Barron. Tells me they cannot start this job without removing my neighbor's fence and driveway (which is all brick pavers), my AC unit and now need to dig in the street. And since Horizon didn't install my AC Unit, I have to call someone else to remove it. I tell Barron these 4 items were not disclosed previously when the rep was here last week, the price of this has more than doubled so think of plan B. Barron states we can do a pipeliner but my township doesn't allow it. While waiting for my township, Barron told me tips and buzz words to write down in order to help persuade my township to allow a pipeliner. Wrote down code 2009ICC and the 14th amendment and how my quality of life is poor because of my township. Whatever he said I wrote down. I thought at the time Horizon had my best interest in mind.
Township manager shows up and I deliver my assertive speech. He sees I'm flustered and asks Who is telling you need a pipeliner? I point to Horizon and things take a turn for the worst. Township confronts Horizon supervisor about how a pipeliner is wouldn't correct the unevenness of the pipe. Horizon supervisor Barron is now yelling on my front yard at the township manager. Says my township steals jobs away from Horizon and Horizon isn't even on the recommended plumbing list. My Ring footage of this is crazy.
Township manager calls his supervisor along with the Water Authority to camera my line from the manhole. After they camera, they inform my township manager her pipe is fine, looks like everyone else's, doesn't have channel rot or roots and the only issues are a separation at my foundation and a small hairline crack in the sewer lateral. Sewer laterals are not the homeowner's responsibility and the separation at my foundation was the FIRST TIME I even heard of this. Horizon looks like oh crap she found out. Now I am livid with Horizon and ask why I was told I have issues when really I don't. Eventually Barron says Ma'am you were misinformed. Misinformed, OR DO YOU MEAN LIED TO? Barron has the audacity to ask if I still want them to do the job. I laugh and say I'm not making any decision until I see a much lower corrected price.
My Township said their top priority is my best interest and to make sure living here is pleasant and they see this stuff all the time from Horizon. I couldn't apologize enough to my township. Horizon made it seem like they were the bad guys. Thank goodness for my township, if it wasn't for them, I'd be in some serious debt. Horizon comes back over with a new price and a revised job description, Barron says If I am being honest... I interjected with I HOPE YOU'VE BEEN HONEST WITH ME THIS ENTIRE TIME, you'll find a cheaper price elsewhere. I can't even process what happened that day. I reiterate my frustrations to Horizon. Barron said this was the 2nd time that he knows of where my rep, Michael T, pushed a sewer replacement on a customer that they didn't need. I'm sorry, THE 2ND TIME YOU KNOW OF? So this has happened before and you knew and still put me through this rigmarole? One of the Horizon people even asked me if I was a Cop, which I'm not sure what my employment background has to do with this but when I learn that I was lied to and taken advantage of, then I will quickly put a game face on. They really thought they could pull a fast one on me because they saw just a lone girl at home who knows nothing about plumbing. I may know nothing about plumbing repairs BUT I AM NOT DUMB.

UPDATE: Not sure how Dave G. intends to make this better, but so far, nothing has changed.
I received a call pm 12/4 and they changed my pm 12/6 appointment to am 12/5. The guy that came out (Greg) was very nice and spent a couple hours on the heater. He diagnosed it as a bad blower & said that the guy that came 11/12 (Mike) hooked up the electrical incorrectly causing the blower to go bad. He got my emergency heat working but had to reschedule to install the new blower that needed to be ordered.

Received a call 12/7 from Crystal in community relations. This is because I sent a not-so-nice email blasting their 100% satisfaction guarantee to my sales rep who forwarded it to her. After speaking with her, she scheduled my install for pm 12/9 with Greg. Who shows up 12/9...Mike - the same one that supposedly messed it up to begin with. After he installed the part, he informed us that we'd have to stay on emergency heat mode because the cause wasn't electrical but because of an inconsistency with the air flow and another appointment had to be made so someone could go under the house and check the vents. That appointment was made for 12/14!!! Here we are, 12/14, and I get a call that they have to reschedule due to inclement weather - it's raining. Mind you, it was raining all day when the unit was installed so why they rescheduled due to rain this time is beyond me. This time, it's an additional FOUR days I have to wait...scheduled for 12/18!! We are supposed to get snow 12/16. Are they going to reschedule again due to a mushy ground?

So from 12/4 - 12/18, I am having to use emergency heat. Which we all know will skyrocket your utility bill!! While I got verbal support from Crystal that they'd help with my bill, I still get the feeling that they really do not care if their customers are inconvenienced in any way.

Today Jeff from Horizon Services arrived at my parent's home within 40 minutes of our distress call. We had a flood in the laundry and bathroom, with a huge mess in the basement.

Jeff kindly used the back door, worked for hours, found and cleared two plugged drains. This job was a complete blessing to us, thank you Jeff for not quitting on the spot.

Dave you have a great company, and your employees tell me you are an awesome employer! That's remarkable, and they work like they love their jobs.

We have happily used Horizon Services for years. I strongly recommend this wonderful company if you want a clean, safe, and qualified professional inside your home!

Not happy with this company, but I did like that they came out for an emergency quickly.  The tenant had 3 drains backed up, and Horizon came out at 9:00 pm and unclogged 2 of them for $200.00. The technician called me and said they would come back at 10:00 the next morning to unclog the other drain and to fix two faucets. The tenant agreed to be home for the appointment. The next morning, while I was in a meeting, I had three messages on my phone at 9:40, 9:50 and 10:15. The messages stated that since I didn't answer my phone, Horizon would not come for the appointment we had agreed upon 13 hours before. I was never told they would repeatedly call before the appointment we scheduled. This is ridiculous and extremely unprofessional behavior to renege on an agreed upon appointment. I arranged for another plumber to fix the problems and will never use Horizon again!

I have had my HVAC serviced for both Heater and AC.  Every time, a tech came out, they were well trained and did a great job. Yeah, they had to tell my my unit was getting old, and I should upgrade to a newer system, telling me all the benefits of getting a new one.
Fast Forward,
I call for my AC Spring Tune up today, and after they know who I am, they say the first available appointment would be Mid-August? It's May 27th.
Read between the lines:  If you don't purchase a new HVAC with their $59.99 service deals, they don't want you as a customer.
I just wonder, if you do purchase a new system, how are they after the sale. (service calls)
Good Luck with everything, but not a way to run a business.

If I could rate a 0, I would.  I even wish I could select negatives!  Here is what I shared with Horizon, yet they still adamantly stand by their quote of replacing a $10 plug-in CAD cell, at most 5-10 minutes of labor for over $500. I suggest you read other reviews of this practice and BEWARE!!!

10/17/2018:  As a follow-up to our phone conversation, I originally called Horizon to perform a tune-up on our oil-fired hot water heating system.  The boiler is a ~10 yr. old Burnham V8 PV85WT with a Beckett burner.  The scheduler informed me that the first available tune-up appointment wouldn't be until sometime in November.  I expressed concern in waiting that long because it was getting colder and we had no heat - the boiler was firing up, but shutting right down after a puff of smoke.  Knowing that the system functioned fine up until shutting it off after the last heating season, I assumed this would be a simple fix to get it running again.

On 10/16, two technicians showed up to service the unit.  After a while, checking whatever they checked, they both went back to the truck to call in their diagnosis of a bad CAD cell.  They returned and quoted my wife over $500 to fix it.  He also said he couldn't do it because he didn't have the part.  This seemed odd to me as the Beckett flame detector is more of a photo eye that rarely goes bad.  Besides, it's a $10-$13 part at most supply outlets!  After I arrive home, I was surprised that between two technicians, they couldn't get the heater going.

At about 11pm, I decided to do what I already knew how to do but didn't have the time (which is why I called Horizon):
1. I started the burner and bled the air
2. I opened the flame door and observed sparkling and inconsistent flame
3. I also observed a puff of smoke on successive restarts
4. At this point, I knew the CAD cell was working - doing what it's supposed to do in shutting the burner off if these conditions exist
5. I shut off the oil supply and disconnected the supply to the nozzle assembly
6. I removed the nozzle assembly and sprayed the parts with some brake cleaner, used some fine steel wool, then wiped everything down
7. I also wiped the inside (photo eye portion) of the CAD cell
8. I reassembled everything, turned back on the burner and bled the system of air
9. I now have heat.

All of the above took me about 15 or 20 minutes... and this is NOT what I do for a living!  This is why I called in a professional.  I would expect doing this every day, they would follow mostly the same process.  I am literally baffled by the attached quote and why this could not have been completed yesterday.

With all of that said - I probably still need the tune up.  The nozzle may need a better cleaning or replacing as the flame is still a bit inconsistent, and the oil filter is overdue.

Looking forward to your reply.

As of 12/3, I had no resolution or attempt from Horizon to remedy the situation despite emails, phone calls and messages.  They still stood by over $500 for the CAD cell, then schedule a tune-up (at least a month out), THEN they could address the other problems.

Frustrated, called another local company (who I will also review), who came out within 24 hours and immediately fixed the problem within 20 - 30 minutes for $189 all-in, parts and labor!  Like I said... BEWARE!

Order #3046836.  No heat on 27 year old gas furnace on day after black Friday.  Tech found broken inducer assembly within 5 -10 minutes, said part would need to be ordered on Monday and would take at least one day, if not multiple days.  Then he kept looking at the heater and said he found failed heat exchanger.  Told him I just want the heater fixed.

Info from paperwork;
Inducer Assembly $980
Heat Exchanger $2560 (if still under parts warranty + available)
Heat exchanger $3498 (if not under warranty any more and available)
Replacement of gas furnace due to age and condition a well as scope of repairs $7000 - $11000.
Trane Model # TUD06C93AO

He just kept talking and talking.  Told technician I am very direct, hired him to tell me the problem, what it would cost in time and money to fix. He would not answer my direct yes/no questions.

The Horizon Services technician told me he found me crass.

I told him if he was going to insult me in my own home he could leave, he did not leave.

I repeatedly asked for the model # of the heater, at least five times.  It took him 20 minutes to read it to me (I timed it) and only did because I asked again.

Interrupted me as I was speaking several times, even after I brought it to his attention, in an attempt to distract me from my valid concerns.

Totally disregard for me, my questions and that he was in my home at my request because I was considering hiring him to fix the heater.

I wanted him to leave, instead he spent an hour writing up paperwork for a job Horizon will never get.

My sense is this is how Horizon Services trains their people - to run their own high pressure sales agenda (used-car dealer style) focused on getting the most money possible out of their victims instead of listening to the customer and meeting their needs.

You misunderstand.  I am not upset, just  posting facts so others may benefit from my experience.

As a new Delaware resident I cannot express how disappointed I was with the services. We are not high maintenance people and I normally don't write reviews. I understand that COVID 19 is stressful and it must be a lot going to peoples houses.

That being said, the person who quoted us came out, turned off our gas (and the gas for the whole condo complex), said it would be $10,000 and refused to turn it back on. We tried calling 30 times (just to get more information and because we feel so bad for our neighbors). Agents continued to hang up on us.

Customer service: 0 stars

Accurate quotes: 0 stars (we got a quote for $8,000 less for the same service)

Communication: 0 stars

I highly recommend looking into other options. Horizons owes me and my family an apology for wasting our time and money. Be careful of people who just want a commission.

We called Horizon to fix 3 problems: the kitchen sink tap was shaky, the kitchen sink outflow was leaking, and the washing machine control tap was leaking. Anthony C. was dispatched the very next day. He was polite, respectful, and quick. He did well on the first two items but unfortunately, he screwed up the third. Two days later, when we needed to use the washing machine, we found that the new control tap was dripping. Furthermore, the washing machine wasn't getting any cold water.

Since the third item was done well, we had to call Horizon again to correct it. This time, they sent Angel C. the same day. He found that Anthony C. had not tightened the nuts on the control tap properly. After he did that, the dripping stopped. However, he said we would have to call an appliance repair firm to check the washing machine because that was not Horizon's problem. Really? Funny that it only started happening after the repair job.

Later, we found out what really happened. When Anthony C. replaced the control tap, he had to cut away some of the plaster board for access. The issue is when he was cutting the plaster board, he didn't cover the pipe so a bunch of debris got in there. That debris clogged up the washing machine hose and stopped the cold water from going to the washing machine. So that was some careless workmanship and to think Horizon had the nerve to tell us to call an appliance repair firm and incur further costs on an issue that they caused.

I didnt get a chance to write a review when Giovanni came out last Fall to tune up our heat pump and air handler for the winter but he is very knowledgeable and willing to answer any and all questions I have during the service. This time he came out to look at our heat pump which began clicking loudly for the past 3 days since we turned on the AC. Turns out the clicking was coming from the reversing valve because freon had leaked out to about 20% pressure when the norm should be 70%. He was patient to diagnose the problem and ultimately advised a new unit as the most cost effective solution since our unit used old R22 refrigerant so we'd have to replace in 2 years anyway. I was very satisfied with both service calls and would recommend Giovanni to anyone.

My only annoyance is the inflated cost of parts Horizon is willing to charge, which is not a reflection on my review of Giovanni. However, to replace a capacitor for $266 when I can buy it on Amazon for $15 is outlandish.

Called Horizon because I was getting water coming up from my lower level hardwood flooring. They came and checked for a sewage backup and performed a drain cleaning. After clearing the drain they determined that the pro Aleem was solved but would need to send a camera guy out to look in drain to see if there was any additional blockages. The man came out and said I needed a liner at some point but at this point it was thought to be my condensate pump was the cause of the water issue without much investigation. Despite there being no raw sewage odor and far too much water to come from a condensate pump it was left as replace the pump and call us back if you have any additional issues. The next morning we woke up to significantly more water and seemed to be flowing. Called a new plumber who found a busted pipe in wall.

If you need routine service they may be ok but my experience was not pleasant and the incompetence resulted in major damage requiring the removal of over 600 sq ft of flooring among other ganache. The only reason they get 2 stars is the technicians were nice and on time. And I didn't over pay for the poor service.

Absolutely HORRIBLE experience with this company. We recently bought a condo and had new appliances put in. My husband had to shut off the water line and then open for the new refrigerator water line. He was unsure he did it all correctly, thought he heard a noise so to be safe he called Horizon to check out. First technician seemed puzzled over our HVAC system, water heater etc..and had to call a senior technician to come over. Second guy arrived, spent about 10 minutes looking over. I was in the house while he was in another area looking it over. He came in and told me we have a real problem. Tried talking me into an entire new system for ridiculous figures. But said if I were to commit today he could possibly get $1000 off. I told him that I was not interested, asked him if my system would put us in any uncomfortable or dangerous situation if I decide to leave it as is. He said no but it is going to break down asap. Left our house..a few hours later when we went to take showers we had no hot water. Next morning 7:30am called Horizon to tell them because we had hot water up until their technicians were here, seemed unusual. Waited until mid afternoon and the technician called. I said possibly he forgot to turn a knob or something. He said not possible, probably coincidence. But he told me that this was another service call and I would again be charged. Since I felt he created the problem I said that I thought he should verify his work, not charge me to be sure he did everything correctly so that my hot water would be restored. Didn't show up. I called another company who found a disconnected wire and a knob left closed which was the cause of my hot water problem. Definitely purposely done or possibly incompetence on behalf of Horizon technician. But sincerely a little too coincidental for me. Similar situation happened to a friend of mine who is an elderly widow when she dealt with Horizon. Of course learned that after the fact or would never have called in the first place. I had heard this company had overly aggressive sales tactics but this beats all. In my opinion they prey on women, elderly people and those who they scare into new systems at ridiculous prices..They are not trustworthy and totally unethical tactics. Should not be permitted to do business. Absolutely do not use Horizon.

We have used Horizon Services many times in the past and have been very satisfied. However when we needed service for a drain clog recently, we were less than pleased.  It was during the week between Christmas & New Years and when we called we were told that a service person would be available the next day.  When the service person arrived and examined our issue, we were told that he did not have the necessary equipment and another service person was scheduled to arrive late the same day.  Not too happy with that. When the second service person arrived and looked at the issue we were told that he scheduled a third person to rout out the drain. That would be the next morning.  The third service person did arrive early and fixed the clog.  The equipment needed was heavy drain router that had to be brought down our basement steps.   Why didn't the second service person do the job while he was at our house?   Too lazy to lug the machine out of his vehicle and into the house?  We believe this issue took way too long to fix. Three service people and 2 days.

Thieves! Said a 4 year old furnace had a cracked heat exchanger and the control board was fried. Was told replacement furnace would be $7000. I explained that I did not have that much and was then asked what can you do today and 'I could use a sale today. Really?? After this, I called 2 other companies and neither found a crack and the board was just throwing codes but had power. They try scare tactics to get a huge sale. Was informed by many people that this is the norm for them. Needless to say, I needed a new board for $400 installed (Horizon was $900 for same part). I don't know how they are still in business after all the complaints I have come across. Terrible company!!!!!!!!

Horizon was very friendly when I called them. Their technician was polite, he wore a white shirt and put shoe covers on when entering the house. He was able to quickly diagnose the problem and eventually fixed it.

The problem is their pricing and their ongoing sales pressure. I was charged $237 for a capacitor that costs about $50 and $379 for a contactor that costs maybe $20. These are generic parts. They also configure their pricing providing a 15% discount only if you buy their Priority Partner Plan for $120.

The tech also used language on the receipts to instill fear and anxiety so I would make an appointment for an estimate for an entire new HVAC system such as; More repairs will be needed, ...to avoid high future repair costs, take advantage of current inventory flip deals, failing in various ways, Has passed life expectancy, this is a band aid.

The total bill was $844 which should have been around $300-400. They are way over-priced and employ questionable sales and pricing tactics. I would never use them again.

Thirty minutes after I posted this review I received a call from a Customer Relations Manager (Sam). Sam did an outstanding job of listening to my concerns with empathy and non-defensively. She seemed sincerely disappointed that Horizons didn't meet my expectations. She asked me what I thought a fair charge should have been and she was able to issue a credit for $385. There was absolutely no pressure to amend or delete my Yelp review but because she handled this in such an outstanding manner I felt I needed to share how they resolved this situation. Sam was probably the most effective Customer Service professional that I have ever interacted with!

I have given up on Horizon after giving them two chances. The first time, I asked them to fix an oil burner that wouldn't run for very long without turning off. He cleaned it and put an additive in the oil tank. Then he left while it was running, saying it was good to go. Not long after, it stopped, and it went right back to running for a short time and turning off prematurely. I decided to fix it myself, and determined it was a clogged oil filter. I changed it and it worked just fine. If I can diagnose a clogged oil filter, a trained technician should be able to. I had the classic symptoms of a clogged oil filter.

The second time was for my heat pump. It needed a check up, so I gave Horizon a chance. How could they screw this up? Well, they did. I was not home at the time, and all the technician told my wife was that I should get an estimate for a new one from Horizon (the unit is 15 years old, but has never had a problem). He scribbled some comments on the receipt, but they were illegible. Finally, I decided to actually check to see if they replaced the air filter, which I knew was overdue. You guessed it, he did not. So what did he do?? Make sure it ran, which I already knew??

My first tip-off to avoid Horizon should have been how much they spend on advertising. They have ads on the radio ALL THE TIME. Guess how they pay for those ads? By getting their foot in the door with a reasonably priced tune up or cleaning, and then telling you you need a new system, or extra work.

Avoid this company and get your work done by local, small companies that actually give two hoots.

Never consider using any other company besides Horizon services. They are always on time professional and friendly, and the work that is performed is always second to none. I've had them do several Plumbing projects also complete installation of water heater and air conditioning unit and I know I made the right choice Horizon was diligent and Relentless in making sure the project was done once and done correctly. If I could give Horizon Services a 0 or negative star rating, I would!  OUTRAGEOUSLY OVERPRICED! I was quoted $3,500 to replace my sump pump and the battery backup (max parts cost: $500).  When I gasped at the price; he somehow 'spoke with his manager' and lowered the price to $2,900.

I am a lady who is 50+ years old (who just happens to be a Mechanical Engineer); therefore, I was extremely angry because I just knew that he was trying to take advantage of me!  I wanted to throw him out of my house; but I simply paid the $49.50 and said no thank you.  So technically, I paid him $50 to try and rip me off! BTW--the recording states that if they are not on time; you don't have to pay the service call fee.  He arrived over an hour later than his appointment! Grhhh!

I called a local plumber, who in less than 3 hours, replaced the sump pump with a battery back-up and completely reconfigured my discharge system to make it more efficient (1 pipe vs 2) and the total bill was only $1,000. Note: same specs on the sump pump and brand of battery backup system that Horizon stated that they would install.

Soooo, Horizon are your telling me that your labor rate is $1,000/hr????  I will never call Horizon again!

Dan was our Tech today and he was outstanding! My furnace stopped working this afternoon, I called Horizon and told them what was going on and they said they could have someone out here by this afternoon. They gave me about a 30 minute notice before someone came like they said they would. Dan showed up, immediately diagnosed the small part my furnace needed. He was very friendly, professional, honest and knowledgeable. He gave me some  tips on keeping the furnace tuned up, and showed me the error codes on the furnace, which I really appreciated, I also appreciated the quick response. I called Horizon at 315pm today and someone was here a couple hours later, the day after Thanksgiving, very impressive!

I had an issue with my furnace on a Sunday morning and from the start my experience with Horizon was very courteous and prompt. The technician (Ed) was able to come out in under two hours and walked me through all of the steps during the diagnostic and repair procedure, and completed the repairs in under two hours. A bit expensive, but unfortunately in this business it's hard to get away with thay. I wasn't subject to an attempt to be sold extra products or anything of that nature, which is a nice change from some of the other home improvement outfits I've used. I'd certainly use Horizon for any other emergency HVAC  work I'd need.

Heat exchanger was replaced at no cost to me.  They honored their warranty.  I spoke with Trane and I hope the heat exchanger lasts this time.  If you buy a Trane ask them about their heat exchangers and the history of cracks appearing and how they warranty their product.  They gave me an additional year of service maintenance but said not to extending the warranty coverage past 10 years.   The Repair Tech Horizon was awesome and I really liked him and he did awesome work.  I would use them again but would be cautious with any business and get a second opinion to verify any recommendations before proceeding.

Do not hire this company!  I cannot prove it, but they apparently damaged the outside coil on my AC, on purpose.  The company who we did hire discovered the damage and said it was too much damage to be a factory defect, but clearly done by someone.  I learned that the repairmen are required to make a certain amount of money or they will be let go.  Then, when their sales guy came to give me an estimate to replace the unit, I was very uncomfortable.  He asked a lot a personal questions and made comments about photos and such in my home.  I tried to get him out as quickly as possible!

I paid $486 for a service plan in March.  They did a AC check a few weeks ago.  I started getting some warm air thru my ducts Sat evening and so I called them.  They said they would be out Wed and that it would be $79 for the visit and any work would be more etc.  4 day wait for someone on their plan?  What exactly did I prepay for then?  Do noy buy their plans.....stay tuned for updates on service etc.

Update:  Turns out my problem is with Servicemark, the company that Horizon recently aquired.  Their service plan is inferior to Horizons and twice the price.  Horizon was out on Wed and couldnt have been better.  I am just stuck with the 'old' and costly plan.

Although it took 4 days and two different technicians, we are very satisfied with the service we received.  The tech arrived within the time window.  Someone always called ahead to alert us to their arrival.  Two different parts were ordered for the problem, however we were only charged for the one that actually solved the problem.  The tech worked hard to diagnose and solve our problem, working late into the afternoon, rather than have us be without heat for yet another day.

We will definitely call Horizon and ask for Jason should we have another further difficulties.

I usually have to call them every couple of years to snake my bathroom sink drain. The techs are prompt, courteous and take care to protect the floor, etc, where they're working.
I would give 5 stars alone to the phone operators for their awesome attitude and professionalism.
I haven't needed any major work done but will definitely call Horizon based on my positive experiences on the smaller jobs.

I have used Horizon for HVAC system in my old house and then again recently in  my new home which has a well system.  I found Horizon technicians to be top notch professionals!  They always greet you with a smile and they go out of their way to explain things and provide you with options on how to correct your issues. I highly recommend Horizon and their Water softening system!

The problem with this company is their communication between the workers. We called on a Sunday night because we had water in our basement. We were told by a friend that the water line just needed to be unclogged with a hydro jet process. When the worker showed up he said he wasn't authorized the do that process, but he would cable the line. After cabling the line the worker could not find a problem, so he informed us that he would send new workers out with cameras the next day. I called to ask about having the line cleared with a hydro jet after the camera was used, and the person on the phone told me that he was unsure if the company still provided the service.
When the new workers showed up the next day they were an hour late, did not have cameras, and neither of them could get their cabling machine down to our basement. I was shocked. I called Horizon for a third time, where I was finally told that they could not hydro jet my water line, and if I wanted someone to camera the line it would be a $500 charge. I sent the workers home and called a private company to come and clear the line.
The only positive to this is that I wasn't charged.

I am quite disappointed that what I thought was a company with a reputation for honesty demonstrated that they use shady practices.

I called Horizon because our AC had stopped working and the house was at 85 degrees inside. I was out of town at the time and my wife helped me troubleshoot the system over the phone. It appeared as though the condensate line had become clogged and water had flowed into the cabinet.

My call to Horizon was answered on the first ring and the operator was professional and cheerful.

When the tech came to the house they inspected the A/C and reported that it was fine but that the control board on the heater, which also controls the AC, had water damage and had shorted out the thermostat. They explained that it would cost just over $1400 after a discount of some type was applied. They then informed me that I really needed a new heater and ac because the existing unit is 13 years old.  The paperwork that they left included a range of $5,000 - $15,000 for a new unit.

Suspecting that I had just paid $79 for a sales call, I declined to follow their recommendation and contacted Homeserv who we have a heater unit (but not AC) repair policy with.

When I arrived home the house was 88 degrees inside. I went down to the basement, cleared the condensate drain, re-set the system at the emergency switch and cycled the breaker off and back on. I then reset the wall thermostat and the air conditioning came on. Within 90 minutes the temperature in the house had dropped to 79 degrees and by morning the entire house was at 72, the set point.

The contractor sent by Homeserv came and inspected the unit including the control board, thermostat, fan and general condition of the unit. He found that the thermostat and the fan were operating correctly but that the  low voltage system feeding the control board was not functioning to spec. A new board has been ordered.  I asked about the heater age and he said that although it is functioning and has more life in it I should start saving for a new one in a year or two.  Although he was professional and would not mention Horizon by name, he commented that he knew of 8 customers who had purchased new systems based on assessments that he knew to be untrue. He recommended that I shop around before buying anything.

Shiny orange vans and radio ads don't always equate to dealing with customers honestly.

I had these guys come out to my house to look at my AC which the cold air wasn't bad just wanted them to do a tuneup on it. Next thing you know they're trying to sell me AC unit, and a heating unit, which I didn't need at all, I told the guy that I just had everything Inspected in it, and I just moved in the house. And they already trying to sell me $10-$12,000 worth of new equipment. But the service guy was nice and courteous, this company will try to take every penny you have. Don't trust use car salesman

So after a bunch of back and forth with Horizon including two different technicians reviewing the maintenance work done,  they concluded that they were not at fault for the breakdown, however they were going to give me half off the repair....    when the customer service/resolutions lady (I think her name is Laura) called me to ask if I was satisfied, I told her no because I still believe that they were at fault.  - not purposefully breaking something but I just can't believe in such a coincidence.  She told me that even though stands by the company's assessment, she understands my point.   She spoke again with her supervisor and called me back to tell me that they will replace the part and complete the repair for free.
Thank you Horizon (especially Laura) for putting your customer over profit and doing the right thing.

Was completely garbage... Was completely ripped off.. was told that warranty did not cover damaged part, was also told we would be #1 priority at 12pm tech didn't arrive til 3:45pm. Was told by operator that parts and labor were covered by warranty yet manager said it was not covered and charged $1878. Since Wednesday when part was broken told company that there is a child in the household with respiratory issues and cannot be in the heat.. they did not dispatch til Saturday when they said they would have someone out by Friday at the latest. Would not recommend horizon services to anyone

I have been using Horizon since we moved to PA, six years ago. I am a contract customer. on Saturday, January 27th, I got home from errands that morning and there was no heat in the house.
I called Horizon and the scheduler told me no one could come to my home until Monday. I said, you don't understand, we have no heat. It's not zero degrees out, but it's already 50 degrees in the house. She said she was sorry, but basically, it was too bad, no one was going to come over.
A friend of ours recommended Timothy Off. They came within 2 hours and fixed the problem.
Horizon advertises that it will come for any emergency, I don't believe their advertising anymore.

After 20 years of service first from Geiger - now Horizon they are no longer our HVAC company.

An AC unit which showed signs of a leak after 1 year (totally empty of freon) was supposedly repaired.

Over the next 11 years, approximately every 2-3 years it needed a recharge under our maintenance contract. One season the coils froze and the tech said the 5 lb unit was low almost 2.5 lbs of freon.

The last time they came, the unit was again low and blowing slightly cold and they refused to service it due to it being past the manufacture's 10-year warranty and my service contract had not be renewed.

He just kept trying to get me to set up a sales call appointment to discuss a new unit.

The guy refused to recharge it as had been done in the past without charging me a high fee for the full up. I paid extra to them to basically what they did over the last 10 years. I was told there would be no guarantee it would hold the charge and work correctly. Basically if they did it and it lost Freon I'd be out the $$$. I said that's fine just do it. He calls another tech who has Freon (in an unmarked white pick-up truck) to charge the AC. Once charged the unit once again was working fine.

I went through the entire history of the AC and he just said (with no customer service skill at all) that I pretty much had no options and that he can have someone come to the house to discuss a new unit.

After all the time they continued to service me HVAC and not discuss an ongoing issue that should have been addressed and fixed for 10 years - until my warranty had expired, they basically left me high and dry (or should I say - hot and wet) to the point of telling me I need to spend thousands of dollars for the half-a** service they had provided, or not have AC.

I do not recommend them.

I have heard other stories about a rusted heater manifold or a bad AC capacitor or other parts. There are replacement parts available for a variety of things that could fail - however, profit, sales commissions and finder's fees seem to guide the quality of service provided.

I sure there are units that need to be replaced without question, but a $500 part install can save thousands on a unit that has plenty of life left in it. But replacement seems to be the favorite path.

I don't replace my car simply because it's out of warranty and needs new tires.

I have always relied on Horizon for honesty and professionalism. My heater stopped working December 23, and I gave them a call they came out in 3 hours which was great. The tech said it was 13 years old and would be a waste to repair it. The motor was leaking and it needed a new mother board I think he called it and it would cost about $2,000- $2,500. To repair and that it had run its course and I would need just the furnace replaced. He asked if I wanted him to call to have someone come over and give me an estimate. I said yes thank you. Mind you it is the day before Christmas Eve and it was going to get colder. The sales man came and told me it would cost around $9,000 I almost fell off the chair with rebates and everything and I can get free financing for 2 years it came to about $8.200. He said if I did not do this right away I would lose the rebate. I told him I could not afford that and I was not ready to make a major decision like that tonight. I also charged a $79.00 service call which I understand. Never the less I was besides myself. I talked to my son in law about it and he said not to worry I know an hvac guy you can trust, he came over Tuesday night looked at it and said who told you you need a new one all this needs is a mother board I will order it and have it up and running tomorrow afternoon. I was never so pleased to know I did not have to invest in a new furnace. Mike came Wednesday afternoon and put in the new board and it started instantly. He charged me $350.00 for the entire job. I will never call them again. I still cannot understand why Horizon would want to push a new furnace on me if I did not need one. Buyer beware. I have posted what was changed on the furnace and also horizon estimate to replace the furnace only. Noting else

We scheduled our annual AC tune-up with Horizon. The tech came out on 4/27/20. We had no problem with him. He was professional and courteous. The issue we have is that Horizon advertised a promo for $49 AC tune-up and a $50 restaurant.com gift card when scheduling the service. My husband and I have called no less than 6 times now inquiring as to the status of the gift card and still have yet to receive it. Every time we call, we are told that they will talk to marketing and we should be getting it soon. As the customer, I should not have to work this hard to get what Horizon advertised. If you cannot follow-through with a promo, don't offer it. Next time I need service, I will be calling elsewhere.

Unfortunately, Horizon came with my house. The existing HVAC unit was installed by them and under warranty. I had my annual tune up scheduled and they called to move me to a new date as they couldn't come out. On the new date after they called to confirm tech on his way, they called back and said he had been rerouted elsewhere. Yesterday I called because my A/C was not working, she was ready to send someone out until I mentioned our unit is under warranty, then I was pushed out a week. In over 90 degree weather. I called back later as the temperature in my house became unbearable and was told a member of the management team would call back in an hour, after an hour and a half I called back again and was promised an expedited call back. Here I am over about 16 hours later and have heard from no one. I just called to cancel next week's appointment and I was put on hold for 10 minutes so far now. The last time they were out here they said I needed a 1k repair that wasn't covered under warranty but they suggested a new unit at 8k. Amazingly, after they left my heater worked fine for the rest of the season. Please Please Please stay away from corporations like this and find a local business to support!!!!!

Don't waste your time. I was getting estimates for a water main replacement valve that was old and didn't cut off the water to the house. Well the clown they sent out was a joke. He got pissy with me when I would not tell him what the other companies had quoted. A reputable company would come in and tell me how much the job would cost and not base the cost of the job on what others quoted. Total loser.

During this heat wave, Josh came out and fixed our air on a Sunday. He was very efficient, helpful, and charged us a very fair amount. He reviewed everything with us and offered us the service contract but was not pushy in any way. The call center was always ready to help every time I called to check in for status of our technician. They came two hours earlier than expected. Thanks!

Of note: I forgot about this helpful tool when this service was initially provided. This happened a month or so ago!!!!!!!!
The work was fast and efficient but the techs were not completely honest when explaining payment!!!!!!
I've used Horizon for my heating services for years, so when I needed plumbing I called them. Two techs arrived timely and were very friendly. They assessed what the issue was with bath tub faulty stopper. Which caused another problem..ceiling damage from water leaking. They advised what should be done to correct the matter and gave me a timeframe for work completion. They then explained the cost and advised that if I purchased a warranty plan the cost would slightly decrease. I was a little anxious about the overall cost but I trusted them from prior experiences. The work was just under $1000 dollars and I understood that this cost included the warranty . I asked how long I had to pay the bill off and was advised by Kevin that I had 12 months. Ok..cool...this could work for me because I didn't have a spare $1000. So, I authorized the work to be done. They did the work in less than 2 hours,  cleaned everything up ... Now here's where I take issue.  The other worker sat at the table with me writing up the invoice.  When he presented it to me , it was full payment due! I said to Kevin ,who was in the living room area, I thought I hghad 12 months to pay this bill. He stated you must have musunderstood, I was talking about the warranty ONLY! I was floored because we hadn't been speaking about the warranty at the time when he was showing me the damages and explaining what needed to be done. I felt like I was deceived ! I had to honor the work so I wrote a check for the services...A few weeks later , I get a call from Horizon,  telling me they needed a valid credit card to bill for the monthly installment for the warranty.  I told the young lady I paid in full st the time the services were done. She said the warranty charges were not included and were separate. I told her that wasn't my understanding of the matter. She said she would look into it and call me back. Guess what, they weren't included and I'm now receiving calls and billing statements in the mail. I feel like I was robbed and don't know where to turn for help!

I switched from a fine local competitor 2 years ago and have been happy with my Horizon service. The only thing that is disappointing and worth of a star removal is the appointment window they now have. It's a 4 hour window when it was a previously much smaller window. AND, that's the only reason I switched from the other place. The other large firm was fine but  I didn't want to sit in my house for 4 hrs waiting. So Horizon is now  doing this too :-(
My appt window was 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM   1 hour into my timeslot I called for an approx time and was told the tech assigned to me wouldn't even start his shift until 12PM and was coming from MD.
MD at it's closest point is 45 minutes from me. So I basically  I sat at my house for over  2 hrs for nothing!   When asked why since they had my phone # they didn't call me to say not to expect anyone until noon I was given the explanation of we have grown by leaps and bounds and we have a great deal more clients these days. I congratulated them because I am truly happy because they are a great heating/AC company. I reminded the gentlemen in customer service I am part of your success story having been a client 2 years during your rapid growth period.  That's how the civil conversation ended.
This is in now way reflective of the  Jimmy the tech who performed my semi-annual tuneup. He was polite, professional, clean, thorough, personable and happy to explain anything I inquired about. He like a previous Horizon's techs was fabulous !   Horizon's services are the best in the area and I will stay with them for my maintenance and repairs if needed.  I just wish they could give you an more accurate arrival time because I stayed home from the morning until the job was finished at 140 PM.

Horizon Services came to our house yesterday (Kent County). Our issue wasn't immediately repairable due to previous work done to the house prior to us purchasing it. However, Tyler and Nick were absolutely amazing! Like wayyy beyond the realm of expected good customer service. They gave us more information than anyone else who has come to do repairs on our home. And even though it wasn't repairable, they really wanted to help the situation, and did. We are definitely further ahead unlocking the mysteries of this 117 year old home, thanks to them and their knowledge. What Tyler and Nick did for the company, is earned them new permanent customers for any other work we will need! No more searching and comparing companies, we know who to call! I can't speak highly enough of these two professionals and Horizon!

Rip off organization, be mindful.
Anthony the technician came to perform routine heater maintenance per my contract.  He was wonderful, as are all the techs that have been sent to me but the Horizon orgnaizaion.... horrible.
I requested if I could be given a free estimate to replace my water heater, as Horizon charges for estimates!!!  He informed me that practice had stopped.  Anthony contacted his off, told me they were expecting my call, to call the number on his card and they would have an estimator come out that day.
I called the office, got a very nasty girl on the phone with a major attitude.  She told me there is a charge to dispatch an estimator.  I explained the background and said either Horizon could have an opportunity for my business to install a water heater as I collect several quotes (all for free) or miss the opportunity.  With major attitude, she told me I should have asked a different question!!  I apologized as just a stupid customer without a script as to the correct question to ask.  She remained indignant.  I was scheduled for the next day and the person that came was on time and professional.  He reviewed the quote with me on his tablet for a 50 and 75gal water heater.  I made an assumption I would receive both via email, as I couldn't remember all the information.  I never received in writing!!!

I suggest looking elsewhere.  The only advantage I see to this group is for an emergency, they can usually get there pretty fast but they seem to overcharge for everything.  i had toilet innards replace and they charged $300 per toilet.  I realized later this was a complete and total rip off.

Incompetent or dishonest, I'm not sure which! Last week we had a Horizon technician come for a service call on our heater. Technician never wore gloves or greatly touted booties!  He initially wore a mask but removed it after a short time and proceeded to walk through our living area without it!  I had to ask him to put it back on!  At end of service call he relayed we needed a very expensive replacement of our secondary heat exchanger ($3,800)!  When my husband and I replied that the unit was only 6 years old and we would check our warranty, he stated that would only lower the cost 25%.  We asked if that meant that the labor would be around $3,000 and he replied yes, that it was a difficult fix.  His patronizing comments about how we don't need to feel guilty that we had done something that caused the problem and the very expensive cost, caused us to be wary.  We paid another local company to come and check the heater.  That technician found nothing wrong with the secondary heat exchanger!  It was a much simpler problem! He explained  what was wrong and showed us on the heater.  Cost from second company was only $187.  Again... Incompetent or dishonest? I don't know which, but neither is acceptable!

Horizon was absolutely perfect professionally. Every telephone call either with the service department or the scheduler was so refined and professional AND polite. No negative energy - only a company willing to offer superior customer service at every point. The receptionists who took the weekend call were wonderful, helpful and very informed....AND NO WEEKEND EXTRA CHARGE! The plumbing technician, Chris Rivet, took the time to explain everything to me. Totally gracious and courteous!
(Even putting on shoe covers at the door!) the man was patient and helpful explaining our plumbing emergency. Now tell me, when was the last time you experienced superior customer service at every level?

I am a college student and have absolutely no experience with anything plumbing related. My sink was clogged and my boyfriend tried to help me unclog it Via Facetime. I took the pipes apart underneath the sink and put it back together just as he instructed and was so proud of myself. Then I turned the water on and discovered that I made a beautiful water full under my sink. Needless to say, I did not put the part back correctly and had to call a plumber. I spoke to one company on the phone before Horizon who was very short with me and immediately wanted my credit card info. Then I called Horizon and they were very nice and patient, as was the worker who came out. My roommate recently needed a plumber for another issue and I asked how much they would have charged for the work I had done, just to get an estimate within the industry to see if I got a good price. Horizon's price was half the amount that he said his company would have charged and he even said his company is very overpriced. Overall very happy with not only the quality of the work, but also the price and the customer service aspect!! Hopefully me and my roommate can stop destroying this house we are renting, but with the way things are going I am sure we will be calling Horizon again in the future!

Highly disappointed. Called for an estimate on some minor plumbing job. Maybe they misunderstood the scope of work because their estimate made me faint. Without going in to details, their 1000.00 dollars plus estimate got done for more than half that price by Mays Plumbing. Your next plumbing issue call Mays after you talk to Horizon.

Initially we received an email that our service time was a day later than promised so I had to call back and confirm the correct time and date. Then after receiving the call that the tech was on route, we called back after waiting over 90 min and customer service refused to answer questions and kept forwarding my call to dispatch but no one answered at dispatch and the voice Mail was full. Calling again resulted in being hung up on. A third attempt resulted in being disconnected when transferred. In a fourth attempt, we requested to speak to a manager where we were put on hold for 30 min with no one answering my call so customer service offered to send a manager an email. 3.5 hours after our appointment, we got a call informing us that no technician was being sent to help. This is now 10:58 pm on a Sunday night with now what should have been a routine call now becoming an emergency. Another call to request a manager resulted in being told no one was working, regardless of the voice Mail I was forced to listen to for 30 min that states a manager is available 24/7 on the weekends. Needless to say, no one showed up and no one offered resolution to the crisis caused by their negligence. Next time you need a service done from Horizon, make sure to tell them your AC is 17 years old, so they feel that they can charge you an arm and a leg for their service as I assume that is the only way they will feel it is worth the time to show up when they say they will. Otherwise, I suggest you find absolutely anyone else for help.

My coworker recommend a annual tune up for my AC. Horizon has a special promotion buy one get one for 89.95$ on the service. and it stated a 21 point tune up. I was expecting some sort tune up. after service, i regretted to do tune up with Horizon. The technician ran a couple test on the unit. Find two problems. That is it. It seemed to me. it is not a tune up. it is like check on your unit and hopefully find some problem and ask you to fix the problem. There is no refringent refill no change filter. Totally did not worth 89.95 from my point of view. I will not recommend Horizon Service.

My another co worker had horizon service as well. end up. The technician somehow smoke compressor's wire. Will not repair the damage by saying the unit was old. hey. You broke my unit. superbly you need to fixed it as well.

a couple months ago horizon installed a new water heater for me. i sighned up for 18-month 0% fi8nancing through synchrony bank. horizon then doubled the charge sent to synchrony for the water heater. i have made multiple attempts and have spent an inordinate amount of time trying to rectify this. synchrony still shows the double charge, even though horizon's customer service (which is a firm that is contracted to conduct customer service, not horizon's own employees) told me that horizon's billing department corrected the matter. i called synchrony as recently as yesterday and the double charge is still on the books. i have not paid and am late with a payment and run the risk of having my credit score ruined. do not use horizon as you will sustain an ongoing nightmare with this company.

I got my new AC/Heater unit installed from horizon.  After reading these reviews, I wish I read them first.  I used horizon because they do always show up and you can get them pretty quick, but they are a little over priced.  My problem though is not with the unit.  I did have to call them twice to fix a brand new unit, but they fixed it and did not charge me.  My problem is that they cut a bigger hole in my wall which they said that they would repair the damage.  They have a contractor to do this work.  I said fine.  They never called to set that up, so I emailed the installer and then I got a call from Kim.  The contractor then came out.  He said he needed to come back.  Fine.  I got a call from Kim and I message that he needed two one hour appointments to get this done.  Fine.  She left me a voicemail.  I called back and left her a message.  No response.  Called two more times and left messages and no response.  I emailed the installer and the salesman and no response.  I asked the last tech and he said that he would tell the complaint department and no response.  I sent a service email thinking they would contact me and nothing.  For what I paid I thought this would be simply, but no.  Take my advice.  Get someone cheaper and with the money you save you can hire a painter to get your whole house painted after the install.

I have been calling several HVAC guys and just like others Horizon tells you they will come. They did not.  Unlike others they did give me a call that they could not make it but too late as I was already home waiting for them.  I would like to stress the fact that good honest services is something hard to come by these days, luckily I did find someone, thru a friend of a friend, that did come and solve the problem.

We have always used Horizon and have always been very helpful! They are always kind, courteous, and have always answered any questions we have ever had. We have always been very honest and open about any issue or payment plan. They have worked on our heating/AC and plumbing. We have never had an issue with them or their work. I do find them to be a little expensive, but you can't go wrong with their guaranteed work!

Caveat emptor....  The tech came out last week for an AC tune up.  From what I saw and looking at the paperwork, all he did was recommend expensive repairs to the AC unit.  When I went down to the basement, he was doing an inspection of the furnace.  That was never discussed or requested.

Left an extensive list of repairs that when I spoke to a HVAC guy I know, was 2-3 times the normal price of most places. The bottom line, yes, its an older unit,  but it is running fine and not in need of immediate repairs.  I can tell the techs are under great pressure to sell high cost repairs and new systems.

Horizon also wanted to charge my elderly parents $500 to install a very basic faucet in a powder room.   I would not recommend these people.  In looking at the Yelp reviews, I see many other feel the same way.

Service person showed up, told me he couldn't repair the sink faucet because he wasn't familiar with the brand. (I looked the info up online and repaired it myself.) Okay, so I understand that someone doesn't have the knowledge to complete a repair. However, I'm NOT okay when I have to fight to get my service charge refunded. I shouldn't have to pay for someone who doesn't know how to do the job.

I had scheduled an appointment for an oil heating tune-up and for the cooling to get checked up as well. I had received a confirmation a day prior and was told that my technician would arrive at 8 am on the day of. Surely enough, he was punctual and was very professional. Ronald was above and beyond ny expectations. He did a thorough cleaning with my oil heating unit. He doubled checked everything before he left which is something I truly appreciate. Although their service was a bit pricey but it's definitely worth it. I would highly recommend Ronald and Horizon Services to those who appreciate people who are looking for great customer service skills with technicians who take great pride in what they do.

We had a heating system tune up by Ben.    One week later, the furnace wouldn't start.   Ben came back and diagnosed an intermittent faulty vacuum switch.   I mentioned Horizon's web site guarantee that if any problem occurred within a year after a tune up, the cost of the tune up would be refunded or credited to the repair no questions asked.  Ben indicated Horizon would have to order the part and would replace it for $640.   Ben also indicated the Horizon guarantee did not apply since the broken part had nothing to do with the tune up.   When I reacted that the price seemed quite high for just a vacuum switch, Ben quickly said Horizon would do the repair for $164.   How did the price go from $640 to $164?    I ordered the part for $27 and installed it myself.   In my opinion, Horizon tired to rip me off.   Please note that during both home visits, Ben was extremely polite and respectful.

Note: I am in Delaware, not San Francisco.

Charles M (Chuck) came out to the house when my mom called because our AC unit was broken. He had a really great attitude and personality was cracking jokes the whole time. He told us that a fuse was blown he repaired it super quickly and helped us set up an appointment to do the full fix at a later point. He was awesome! Very professional. Highly recommend.

Had a Horizon technician, Ricardo Blackwell, come out to my house in New Jersey to tune up my central air conditioning unit. Ricardo was thorough, professional, pleasant and took the time to educate me on both my heating and cooling systems. He explained everything in layman's terms, so I would have a better understanding of how to better care for them. Was so please with both the service, and the price. Thanks Horizon and thanks to Ricardo too..

I wrote a scorching, horrible review for Horizon Services for the experience I had with them in my home. I have to say that with my complaint came some pretty awesome Customer Service.
They sent out the manager of the department to assess our issues and promised to make all the wrongs right. And they did. They bent over backwards to give us what we wanted and followed up each and every time. Hats off to Daniel the plumber from the NJ division. He was kind, understanding and explained each and every process he took to remedy things. The only reason I gave them a 4 rating is because they are a bit pricey.  Thank you to everyone involved at Horizon Services!

A Horizon scheduling rep called me last week to schedule my winter service which is a part of my contract.  It's bad enough the windows they give you are half a day 8am - 12pm or 10am - 2pm or 12pm - 4pm and you need to take time off from work but I scheduled it for 8am - 12pm, when it got close to 11:30am I got nervous and called, they said he just left and is on his way  so at 12:30 when no one had shown up, I called back only to be told I wasn't on the schedule. So strike one, my appointment that THEY called me to make was not on the books and strike two was when I called the first time, I was lied to. So now I'm having to use a FULL day off so I can sit and wait for the guy they just now sent out and please allow for his travel time so who knows where he is coming from and how long this wait will be.  I use to have a contract with Santa's Heating and A/C which was a mom and pop and it was a little more expensive than these big companies so I went with Horizon and wow, you really do get what you pay for. Horizon doesn't even care about you as a customer because they have so many .. why would I matter to them but I will make sure everyone knows on every social media outlet how terrible their customer service is.  I'm not blaming the tech because how would he know? but I've had so many issues with their customer service either having my wrong information to appointment scheduling blunders but this one takes the cake.  Use a PTO day just for someone to come out and literally LOOK at the unit - ridiculous.

Michael came to our house with a big smile on his face and putting on his booties right at the door.  He handled our problem with the garbage disposal and then asked if he could help with anything else. We had been having trouble with a faucet and he then assisted us with this also.  He gave us some very helpful advice and was upfront about all costs.  As a repeat customer, he also gave us a discount without our even requesting same.  We were very satisfied with his work.  Thank you, Horizon and Michael!

Wow, watch out for the strong arming sale tactic of Horizon!
I had my main drain cleared last week and the technician offered to send a camera jockey to cam the line to determine if there may be a more serious issue going on. I agreed and the guy came later that day.
Upon arriving, he said just so you know, your borough and two others in the area require I get permission from the Plumbing Inspector to even come here. And then, I have to share my findings if there is an issue AND the boroughs are requiring the homeowner to fix the problem!
I never heard of such an ordinance but what bothered me was why they wouldn't tell the customer this first. He said you can't expect the technicians to know all the various ordinance rules. So I asked why he didn't call before calling the Plumbing Inspector just to tell the customer Hey--are you aware of this ordinance, are you prepared to deal with the findings and do you still want me to come? He debated with me that you and I can't change the ordinance...and that I can't expect the technicians to know all the ordinances. I said I'm not debating that. I'm asking WHY you would blindside the customer with something like this?
We went in circles another few more minutes until I finally told him we were getting nowhere, he could leave and I'd take this up with a higher-up!
I then spoke with his Manager, explained the interaction and asked if he would appreciate being pushed into a corner like I was? He agreed, he too, would be upset. I told him Horizon seriously needs to rethink their process. I also told him I didn't appreciate Horizon tipping off the borough Plumbing Inspector of a possible issue and that if he had points to score with borough council he could pursue what problem there might be! I have no idea whether I have a belly, a break or anything else. I'm just not in the position of spending 5-10 thousand dollars!
I requested my $99 for the line clearing be refunded which he agreed to. He apologized and said he would be sharing this issue with upper management.
A few days later I spoke to the Plumbing Inspector (PI) and relayed the incident to him. He explained that yes, if a company finds a main drain problem that they are required to share with the borough. He said his position is to side with the homeowner to ensure they aren't replacing something that can't be fixed. However, it isn't required to get permission to come to the property. The PI also felt that this was a case of aggressive sales going on!
I've used Horizon the past ten years or so and will NEVER use them again! What if I were a 90 year old lady who didn't know any different and said well--if the borough says I have to fix it--here's my credit card!
Ugh....UNBELIEVABLE and UNACCEPTABLE!

OVERPRICED! I was originally quoted $729.00 to replace a garbage disposal, after I choked on the price, they lowered the price to $561. I declined the repair...and was charged $49.50 for them to have the opportunity to rip me off. I called a local plumber, who in less than an hour, replace the garbage disposal and the total bill was$180.00. My advice is to deal with your local plumber, a bigger company is not better.

Update: 7 months after posting my review: I received a call from a customer service representative and she refunded me the $49.50 visit charge.

My AC stopped working.  Had to have Horizon come out.  Tech diagnosed the problem very quickly.  Compressor wasn't coming on.  Had to put a hard starter kit into the system.  Looked like a paint can looking thing.  Took him less than a minute to put it in and it started right up.  Bill was over $450.00.  I had to pay it, i needed my AC working as i have animals in the house while im at work.  I then started to research this hard starter kit  i found that this doesn't appear to be a very expensive device whatsoever.  I called and just asked for clarification on the bill.

Marissa at horizon talked to me about it to explain that they are aware their prices are above the industry standard and that they come up with prices just based on the job.  While i totally understand that business is business.  I did highly feel like while i was standing there and him putting a paint can looking thing into the machine that was $50 does not coorelate to a $450+ job.  While i expressed this to Marissa, i was impressed that they sort of agree.  She asked what I think i should pay?  I explained that shouldn't be up to me, i just want something fair.  She offered to knock $200 off the bill.  I agreed that was acceptable.  I appreciated that they did that.

While I was never angry about this.  I can only give Horizon 3 stars.  I can't imagine how many people they are overcharging for their services.  They clearly have great customer service judging from the tech that came out that was a great guy and Marissa who really helped me out financially.  I do think that this company's upper management really needs to sit down and ask themselves a few things.  Are your prices fair based on the cost of the part, the work that has to be done for that installation?   Again, i understand a business has to make money and i agree, but clearly they need to come up with a better algorithm if they want to put a price on a job that had to be done.  A customer shouldn't have to call up to say hey, uh this part isn't expensive and it took your guy less than a minute to install it.... how are you coming up with that price?  Wonder how many people they do this to and get away with it.....

I have a service contract with Horizon and I also have a broken Air conditioner. I have been on hold for over 30 minutes a few days this week. I finally got ahold of someone, from Horizon, on Face book. After two days they finally got a representative to call me. I explained the problem and he said the next available appointment is approximately a week out but there are a lot of cancellations. He then proceeded to transfer me to get the appointment scheduled and I was disconnected. So here I sit with no Air Conditioning for two weeks and because of my work schedule I can't wait in hold for over 30 minutes. Oh did I mention Horizon was just here two months ago and worked on my heater. I'm extremely  frustrated and have never written a negative review in my life but in this case I felt it is warranted.

I have been using Horizon for large purchases ($10,000 HVAC; $2,000 water heater) for several years. I know I could have paid less for my HVAC, but chose them because of the supposedly good customer  service.
It is true that they come promptly if something breaks, but they are ridiculous for scheduling the regular maintenance that is so important to ensure long life for these expensive systems.
I just called (on December 12) to schedule my spring AC tuneup and was told July was the earliest appointment. Lenox tells me that to ensure a long life for the HVAC, it is important to get it serviced at the beginning of each season. I had to wait three months for my heat checkup, but a 6-month wait for the AC is beyond acceptable for an expensive company that sells itself on service.
When I told Horizon that I would just hire someone else to do the checkup, they said it would void my warranty. So now they have me over a barrel--shortening the life of my $10,000 investment--and I have no options.  You would be far better off paying less for your HVAC from someone else.

We had used these guys for plumbing and a water heater and were pleased but when we needed a new furnace they turned complete rip-off artists. Internet search showed that we should pay less than $3000 for our size house but they wanted $10,000!!!  Then they claimed to be giving us a deal at $7000.  How many people think they are getting a deal and accept this?  Thank goodness it wasn't too cold so we could shop around. We got one for $3000 installed from someone else.

On 4/18/19 in the late afternoon (5-ish) scheduler called to confirm I was home as tech was on his way to do annual A/C check-up. Truck pulled up 20 minutes later and guy sat in truck for 5-10 minutes and then drove off. Never got out to even knock on the door. I called scheduler back to advise what happened and was told they would contact the tech and have him call me directly. No call back, no nothing. Lousy follow-up & no service.

In my previous post on this company, I lambasted one aspect of the service I received. Consequently, I gave Horizon Services a poor rating. Within 20 minutes of my post, one of their managers responded and promised ..to do whatever it takes to make things right..---and that's exactly what they did. As a result, I couldn't be more satisfied with the way my issue was responded to and the fair treatment I received. Couple this follow-up with the the good job the technician did, and you have the basis for a good customer experience.
This is precisely the type of company I want to do business with--a company that does quality work, is honest and treats their customers fairly.

After listing both Yelp* reviews and complaining to the company regarding a customer service experience I recently had with one of their scheduling representatives, Horizon called me. It wasn't expected either.

The woman who called gave me a very sincere, very heartfelt apology even going as far as saying the experience may be used as a training scenario.  While I never mentioned or suggested, they offered to refund our cost for the contract.  I declined that offer knowing I'd feel guilty. I'm just not the refund-seeking sort of guy.  They insisted however, both refunding us and promising they wouldn't let us down again.

THIS is the way business should be run. Not that the customer is ALWAYS right mind you, but the fact that someone with the company went out of their way to call, to hear me out, to tell me HOW they plan to remedy any similar problems in the future and insisting I accept the refund.

I can't recommend them enough.  Their maintenance guys are always incredibly friendly, crisply dressed with i.d. and willing to answer any questions on ac/heat with no rush.

Awesome company, great customer-service follow through, good prices. Love 'em!

Horizon talked my 77 year old mother into paying a ridiculous amount of money and also a thousand more, telling her she will then get a 1000 dollar rebate. She was confused and signed the papers. She didn't tell me cuz she realize she was taking advantage of it was the dead of winter and they scared her. They never even told her that it could be fixed it was a fairly new trailer so I don't know why not but beyond that $5,000 or so 6000 whatever it ended up being for one propane furnace was outrageous. After she passed away and I found the paperwork I called and the reply I got from the manager was well how much do you think we should have charged. Really? I know for a fact others in that Park have had heater and air conditioning put in and only charged 5 - 6000 for both. I will never use Horizon or recommend them to anyone.

UPDATE: Horizon responded to my reviews with a phone call, evidently this has only ever happened one other time and it's incredibly rare for the company to not be able to service a particular unit. The woman I spoke with apologized on behalf of the company and she is sending me a $50 visa gift card to make up for it. She said she is also going to share my case with the president of the company. I am leaving my original complaint below and upgrading from 1 star to 3 stars because they did respond promptly and acknowledged that this wasn't right.

----------------------------------------------------

This is the email I typed up to their customer service department. I am still waiting to hear back:

I am incredibly disappointed with my Horizon experience. Your serviceman came out to perform an AC tune-up, took one look at my AC unit, and said We don't work on anything like this, sorry. Really? Your commercials say that you work on all makes and models, so I suggest you fix your commercials because that's false advertising. You've now wasted my time because I took a day off from work to be present for this service call, and I'll need to juggle my scheduled AGAIN to have a different company look at my AC unit. I am incredibly disappointed and I will not ever recommend Horizon to any friends and family, because evidently it's not guaranteed that you'll actually perform the work requested, despite your supposed reputation and your dishonest advertising.

The AC unit is Carrier brand. He looked at it like it was from outer space and said there was no way he could service it. Two big thumbs down.

I don't usually provide feedback, but felt compelled as my first and only visit from Horizon Services was so egregious.

On the morning of Tuesday, August 16, my wife called me at work to inform me that house was not getting down to our set temperature and that the air conditioner in the basement (she works out on an elliptical machine right next to it) was making a funny noise.  I told her to shut the system off and I would contact someone.

Being new home owners and unsure who to call as there are a number of reputable plumbers in the area, I was lured in by your advertising (hard to miss you guys on TV).  Locally owned and operated, The Horizon Difference, etc. etc.

I called and conveniently you had an a representative to my house within a couple hours.  I unfortunately had a few conference calls at work and told my wife to communicate via text with anything important the rep had found with regards to our system.

So the system...Builders grade, 17 years old (original with the house in 1999).  I'm not naive in thinking that the conversation wasn't going to go right to replacement, but was hoping that a small fix might be possible to get us through the month, allowing us more time to make a decision with regards to replacement this fall/winter.  Again, I fully understand that we need to replace our system in the very near future.

Bottom line, my wife informed me your technician said it was a frozen A coil and that a fix would be entirely unfair to us as homeowners and that we should begin talking replacement.  We were told the fix would be in excess of $3000 (this was written on the carbon copy left behind).  The rough estimate for replacement was $13K to $22.5K depending on the system.  He said a more formal quote and options would be delivered via a sales visit to our home the next night.

As my wife and I discussed how we were going to cover the replacement cost, we opted to have a 2nd opinion.

We asked our neighbors who knew a local guy with his own licensed and insured HVAC business.  He came out to look at the system and ran a few tests.

The main reason for my complaint today is this:  The panel to gain access to the A Coil had never been removed (the insulation tape was still attached the panel).  Furthermore, upon visual inspection there was no sign of a leak (additional tests confirmed).  This was just the first step in the diagnosis, but how could a technician diagnose a frozen A Coil without looking at the coil itself?  I understand you could make assumptions based on some other tests, but it seemed that this technician took one look at the system and went straight to replacement without giving me an opportunity to hear a true patch to remedy my current situation.  Instead he seemed content to force me in to making a buying decision on the new unit by throwing out enormous fix costs to pressure me to replacement.

What was presented by your representative as a $3000 fix, wound up costing me $108.95 (including a $15 part).  Currently the house is 70 degrees and has been running fine for a week.   I know that I will need to replace this system in the very near future, but now have the time to make an informed decision without being rushed by your sales tactics.

Because of the lack of empathy, and the failure to dedicate any time whatsoever to making a true diagnosis, Horizon will not get an opportunity to quote/sell the replacement unit, nor any work on any level from me in the future.  Rest assured that anyone who asks for a HVAC/plumber recommendation will get the same story from me regarding my experience with Horizon.

We bought the service plan last year.  This year when our AC was down they quoted 3 weeks before anyone could come out.  Even after repeated calls and threatening to drop their service... Peyo, I appreciate your response. I would prefer not to leave that type of info on a public forum. Also my wife and I found other services to accommodate our needs. I can tell you the sales guy had a strange receding hairline and was quite full of himself, as most salesman are, mostly car salesman tho. I do truly appreciate you following up to be a better business. Hopefully in the future we will cross paths again and we can work together.

Called for the service on my heater, since it wasn't working. And was told that my heat exchanger was cracked and replacement would cost $2,500 to $2,700! But because my heater was too old I would likely need a new unit, which would cost $6,000 - $8,000 (for a townhouse with 1,200 sq.ft)!!! Called another company few days later and they fixed it by replacing a wire in a thermocouple for $100!!! Not even a mention of a crack or anything of that sort! Do they really think people are complete idiots and won't even try to get a second opinion before throwing $8,000 out of the window???
Just told the story to my coworker and the same thing happened to him as well!!! WTH???

Before signing any contract with them, get a second opinion. We were quoted over $6,000 to replace the AC unit in our house. The sales person was overwhelming and pushy.  He tried using the heat to force us to sign a contract and was very shady with his approach.  We got a 2nd opinion that same day and the unit needed a new part, and it was running within 15 minutes.  A $200 fix and the unit did not need to be replaced at all. Their techs are not knowledgable and they will try to pressure you into a replacement when that may not even be needed. BEWARE!

Just moving to DE last year not sure who to use for our furnace, we called Horizon to have our furnace maintenance.  10 months ago the tech came out did a nice job making sure our furnace was running properly.  We were told the furnace was in good condition, continue to change filters.....etc.  This past month the furnace started acting up, called for service and the tech that showed up informed me that there was extensive rust and the whole system was in poor condition.  He also had NO conclusion as to why my furnace was not running properly but offered to order multiple parts and TRY and see if it would fix the issue and tried to up-sell me a new system. In the meantime he told me my furnace was overheating and In order to get my furnace to run that I could override the overheating safety switch by turning off the furnace using the emergency switch (the red switch) give It a couple of minutes off then switch it back ON.  So not only was my furnace overheating but now by bypassing the emergency switch I would be REALLY overheating my furnace, causing a FIRE HAZARD!! We decided for our safety to turn off the Furnace!!!!  Leaving us with NO heat at all.  I decided to called another Company to give me a second opinion = I was told the system is not in poor condition just usual wear and tear.  Also within 1/2 an hour my system issue was diagnosed.  We will be using this other Company from now on for OUR SAFETY and their honesty regarding diagnosing our furnace!!!  Up selling a new system or having clients charged for parts to TRY and fix a furnace doesn't make for good customer service! When I call and PAY for a service call I expect the tech knows what to do to FIX the problem not nickel and dime me until the right part and a lot of $$ is spent!!!

If you could enter a review without having to not even click on a star, I would do that for Horizon. Yesterday my hot water heater was not working at all. Horizon sent one of their plumbers. The plumber was very good & nice to talk to. He explained to me what water had been dripping from a shut off valve about my hot water tank & the water got into my hot water heater & as a safety precaution, the hot water heater shut it's shelf off. The employee from Horizon told me that need a new hot water heater. I had told him that the water heater was only 2 yrs. old. But he said there is nothing he could do, other than call his boss & see if he would lower my cost for new one. The prices for different levels of bells & whistles was between $2,000 something dollars & $3,000 some dollars. Even with his boss lower the price, it was still WAY too expensive. After he left I called another plumber & that plumber came & he used his wet-dry vac & took the water out when the dripping water had dripped in it. He then started it up & it worked. Horizon must have thought that I could not have checked with another plumber. You don't want Horizon for anything. They lie or the employee who came out didn't know his job & their prices are too expensive,

Beware !!!!   If you purchase a new heating and air system.
Company is more concerned with sales than service.
When we had our old equipment, Horizon would call several times a year
to indicate our system needed servicing.  Since we had both systems replaced approximately 5 years ago, their customer service is virtually non existent.  We have to call every year to schedule yearly maintenance.
Please note, as part of their 12 year warranty the homeowner must have equipment tuned up and services every year. Failure to do so will void the warranty.  Called this afternoon, July 13 for yearly tune up and was told that their next available time slot would be in February!  Totally unacceptable.  So for us, we will take the hit and not exercise the remainder of Horizon warranty and go with another contractor.
We will keep a copy of their e-mail if any problems occur with equipment and demand Horizon to make repairs.
Bottom line is do not be mizled by this company, they have gotten too large and no longer consider customer service a priority

Okay, to make it brief. I needed a kitchen faucet and a garbage disposal installed. Old ones removed, new ones installed. I had already purchased both replacement items. The estimate for this was $652.00! Really? My friend told me about JDog Handyman Services. They are staffed by all veterans. That's reason enough for me to hire them. But when you add to that the fact that it was $90 to install the kitchen faucet and the same for the garbage disposal, it's clear who should be hired. I don't mind paying for services I need. But $652 to do this job was insane. Shop around people. Hire a vet.

The plumber came over to add simple plumbing work that takes an hour to complete.  He did an excellent job:  arriving earlier than expected, offered three options, and respected their client.  The problem is the pricing.  Even the third option pricing, it is not in line with other plumbing companies for that kind of work.  Horizon is charging 30% more for that same kind of work; although I'll stomach the cost because of Horizon's discount.  Unfortunately I am not able to recommend them to others.

Update to review - 5/31  They responded to the client yelp review and discounted the cost to more realistic pricing; hence the reason I'm upping the star to the next level.

This is the most outrageously over price company I have ever experienced. They charged $343 to install a garbage disposal where they did not supply the part and took 2 techs less than an hour. They also charged $781 for supplies in the install if a water heater. When called to get exactly what supplies they provided, their company policy is to not disclose what supplies they provided
Complete rip off!

Was very happy to switch to Horizon for annual maintenance of AC and Furnace.  Price seems reasonable for annual contract and technician was very competent and explained everything being done.

Had them back to replace some crewed up wires on outside compressor and add a hard-start kit and price was reasonable and work was done right first time.  They came when they said.

They also took the time to adjust the AC fan controls to push the most air through the house and the unit has worked great all summer.  All other technicians and installers I've had never even mentioned these switches on the control board.  So this alone may it worth it for them to come out.

When under maintenance contract, they give priority and 15% discount on work and quoted prices up front and honored them.  To me this is great service and I highly recommend them.

A Horizon technician and supervisor left my home minutes ago for the second time this week. The first visit, a filter was clogged and they changed it and the furnace worked fine after they left. Two days later a ground wire miraculously came loose and destroyed the furnace fan. It is 7:30 at night and 25 degrees outside and the company refuses to fix what they broke two days ago. But if I want to give them $3,300 right this minute they'll be happy to replace a heat exchanger that is not causing any problem whatsoever. They were promptly directed to leave the property. It's chilly in my house tonight but I will gladly pay more than $3,300 tomorrow for a replacement furnace from any other company. And this one will never get another job at my rental properties or my home again.

I wrote a review approximately three weeks ago about charges that were exorbitant for some work done on my heater.  The charge for draining my hot water heat system and then refilling was $509.  I was also charged $1738 for parts that I found online for $254.  The service was prompt and courteous but the price was far too high.
I called to express my concerns and was promised a call back by a manager.  In three days I did speak to a manager who listened to my concerns and gave me a refund of $500.  At this point I don't know if I can afford to deal with Horizon.
I still have the service plan but will check pricing before having Horizon do any work for me.

Just a heads up for anyone thinking of using Horizon Services I have used them twice and have been very disappointed. I had my ac and heating unit replaced and they tried to pull a bait and switch with the heater when I complained they gave me back 1000.00 but come one if I didn't complain I am sure there would be no compensation back. But I was stupid enough to use them again for installing a gooseneck faucet, first they told me next day even know that not what the promise so I complained and all of the sudden they fit me in so when the plumber get there he can't figure out how to install it without disconnecting a pre-existing rain soft water filtration water tap, but he thinks he could do it if I get one of the faucets 600 and some dollars for a plain faucet with sprayer they use I should of kicked him out at that point but was pressed for time so we get out nice faucet installed 629.00 later cause I printed out a 50.00 coupon off the website that prints out tiny (all the money they pull in you would think they could fix the website to print out a full size coupon) so I get an email later asking for a review so I fill it out not even mentioning the disconnected water tap. And then the customer service manager calls me since I was mainly complaining about the extortion prices they charge since I got the faucet off of Amazon and you could have it installed for 159.00 he offer to give me back the 49.00 dispatch fee so can anyone explain why when you pay them to do something they still charge you that. So after I explained that this was the second bad experience I had with them he had the nerve to tell me it looks like I have a bone to pick with them. Really if I said that to a customer I would lose my job since I was in the car driving he said call him back with what I think was a fair price right like I am going to call him back after that slap in the face. All he needed to do was say you know what I will send one of my experienced plumbers out to fix the rain soft water tap issue on us it was working and now it is not, but no I get I have a bone to pick with them and try as I can I cannot find my review on their website I guess they are one of those companies that take out the negative reviews. Just beware if you use them.

Call someone else.  Horizon is difficult to work with.  They gave me the run around.  I had an HVAC system with a clogged condensation drain pipe (they had installed it incorrectly such that debris would build up)  and it was leaking on the floor.   It took over 24 hours of repeated calls to them and meanwhile I had water damage, mold and mildew and spent hours mopping up water.   Horizon was not helpful or responsive.

This is the best plumbing company as far as quotes are concerned. They gave me the best quote and were quick in dealing with my issue. Ben arrived on time and started working with the sewer cleaning, which got clogged by some unnecessary stuffs due to which plumbing system was not working properly. He cleaned the sewer system along with ridding of the harmful bacteria present that can be very harmful. He was dexterous, professional, and did a clean work. We had a friendly conversation throughout the work and answered all my questions. I will be using you again next time for any of my plumbing needs.

Had a tech come to my house when my outside heat pump was icing. The tech stated I had very low refrigerant and my compressor was damaged. I was quoted 2 different leak test ranging from $300 and the other was a Nitrogen leak test for $1100. I explained I had a leak test. I knew something was strange when he kept recommending I should speak to the scheduling dept. to discuss units.  I paid to have refrigerant added and the diagnostic test over $622. In less than a week the unit was iced and sounded horrible like never before.  I called them back.  This time they sent two techs, one being a Sr. tech. He stated the first guy was new. He tested the unit and his findings were totally different.  Contaminated system needed a flush cost now over $3400. Once again suggestions for the scheduler to call to discuss new units.  He also stated on the ticket all must be done to assure proper working status. If this was the case why did I get ripped off for refrigerant if it would not bring resolution to the problem. The Sr. Tech put on the ticket recommendation for refund for refrigerant. It's amazing the schedulers called me 2 weeks straight to talk about a new unit but nobody will call about my refund.  One Manager in Delaware was supposed to call me back it did not happen. Had the nerve to tell the receptionist  I would only get the refund if I purchased a unit.  Beware not good business ethics!

this is my second post, first post has disappeared!!!

Made a mistake and called Horizon when my heater broke. Tech arrived and told me it was a lot of money to fix the heater and it would be cheaper in long run to replace it, Salesperson shows up that night, I was told a crew could replace it in the morning at a reduced price. After sitting for a while an hearing the company history and business practices (long and drawn out)  I finally got prices and agreed to one and financing.  Wow, what a huge mistake I made. It seems that this is SOP for them. I had to sign a waiver to give up my right to cancel so the crew could install the next morning, Then I get my first bill, with a  29.00 activation fee plus interest, Not disclosed at time of sale, I believed it was special financing thru them and I know I would be charges something extra  but  now I have about 68,00 a month in interest to pay plus the 78000.00. By the time its paid off it will be over double. Never would have agreed to this, I know this has happened to others, I feel betrayed and lied to
Buyer beware of any company that sends a salesperson to your home at 7pm at night.
It has me thinking was the original heater in that bad of shape it was only 13 years old.

With regard to HVAC, these are true professionals.  The technicians were in our home for about 16 hours completing a very difficult installment.  They did a great job and were very kind.

As for plumbing service, I can only say HUH?  I had a plumber come out for an estimate to replace 2 faucets in my bathroom.  Note that the faucets were already purchased, so this was just an install.  The quote?  $580 !!!  Are you kidding me?  I was very disappointed, and got the work done for $200.

My heater stopped working and i called horizon services. They responded very fast and send their technician very quickly. I did not know what was going wrong with the unit so I had no idea how much would it cost. The technician's diagnosis was the malfunctioning condensation pump and he told ,e he has to replace it. Then, he showed their price for this job (around 700). Since my wife is pregnant and she was freezing, I had to accept his offer. He replaced the pump in 10 minutes and fix the unit which still works fine. After he left, I googled the price of the pump and found that it was between 50-80 dollars. So, I was charged more than 600 for the labor that lasted 10 min. I still don't know if there is any other business that would do the same job for less but I know that what I was charged was UNACCEPTABLE.

Incredibly, incredibly over-priced. I don't often write poor reviews but I will take the time to do it for this. Instead of addressing the minor leak in my home, the technician led me throughout the rest of my home trying to use scare tactics to run up my price by thousands of dollars (telling me I needed to replace a water heater that had just been inspected 2 months before). Once I FINALLY got him to only focus on the leak job, he could only give me a best quote around $900 and couldn't break down the costs of parts and labor for me, just said it was by the book. I was charged $140 for the service call (that was WITH a coupon!) and was left with a hole in my wall for me to buy an access panel to cover. Found a different independent plumber who completed the rest of the job - which ended up just being a loose pipe connection - for less than $100. I won't be contacting Horizon again and frankly I am so angry that someone tried to take so much money from me and lied straight to my face.

Scam artists plain and simple. I got an absolutely outrageous estimate of $23,000 for a complete central AC system install in a 1400sf rancher with very easy access to where they'd be installing everything. I can't speak to the quality of their work because my wife and I laughed the guy out of our house. Before leaving he told us we could probably find a smaller company desperate for work to do it for $15k. but should be wary of anyone who would. Well, the next 3 estimates we got all came in under $10k from reputable well reviewed companies. Now I know how they afford all the billboards at the Phillies ballpark.

Recently had Horizon out to service an hvac system. I had a home inspection report that highlighted two issues: a noisy induction blower and not enough of a temp delta across the coils. Both needed follow up by a professional in accordance with the agreement of sale and I told Horizon the purpose of the call.  The technician was knowledgable enough but could not charge the system as the day they came out was too chilly and the ac unit would be serviced better if there was more of a load.  I understand this, but question why they would come out in the first place knowing what the issue that I explained to them was.  Okay so what about the noisy blower?  The tech turned on the heat and sure enough heard the noisy fan.  I explained that the noise stops if you apply a little pressure to the back of the blower and asked if it may simply be loose?  Nope. According the him it was shot and needed to be replaced   Bottom line from Horizon was just about $1100 ($890 for the blower and $260 for up to 2 lbs of refrigerant ).  I paid the $80 for the service call and opted for a second opinion. I got a second opinion as I was bothered by the nonchalant nature and just tossing around rather large numbers.  The second opinion did indeed indicate low refrigerant and charged me $80 for that.  Now the blower unit is a different story.  The technician that came out listened to the fan and agreed that is sounded lose.  He popped in four longer screws and tightened the blower down.  No noise.  No reduction in airflow. All fixed.  Total bill: $80  which is $1100 less than I may have paid.
For new installs, horizon is great.  For repairs? I think you may be able to do better for your money.

Horizon Services Inc is not interested in repairing your HVAC, They are interested in selling you a new system. There is more profit in sales than service,  The technicians have training class on how to sell and the buzz words cracked heat exchanger and carbon monoxide are usually what they say. Then they condemn your unit. Next comes the sale.   Of course they also try to sell add ons such as air purifiers and humidifiers. Those are the money makers.  Oh yes, they also make $$ from financing.
Good for their pockets not yours.

We recently moved into a new home and were not familiar with how our heat pump worked and when it was last serviced. After reading several reviews online I was confident that Horizon was who I wanted to do business with. Matt showed up on time and ready to get the job done. First thing he asked was if we had any questions so we explained we wanted to tag along with him so we could learn about our system as he did the tune up. He was more than happy to have us with him and was extremely knowledgeable about the unit. I was amazed as I watched and listen to him, he was a true professional. Matt gave us good advice how to use our heat pump in the most effiecient way possible. The knowledge he shared with us will be instrumental for us for many years to come. We really couldn't have been more pleased with the entire process. Because of Matt, Horizon will have us as a lifetime customer. Thank you Matt for exceeding all of our expectations!

We contacted through email three companies on a Saturday to replace our primary HVAC system. Horizon responded that day and sent a rep. He gave us quotes for both Trane and Lennox. Good systems both.  He said they had an opening for installation, the next day, Sunday, and if we signed the contract we could get an additional discount. We considered it, but wanted to hear from the other two companies first. So glad we did. Both companies are reputable and gave us quotes 45% - 60% less than the Horizon discounted quote, apples to apples. A different Horizon guy called on Monday and Wednesday and tried to lower the price a little, but the damage is done. Very sleazy business practices on the sales side, good products and probably good people on the service and installation side, but buyer beware with these guys. Get additional quotes!

****UPDATE 5/2/14 THE BELOW HAS BEEN RESOLVED, Horizon Services has thoughtfully reached out to me about this issue, and I am pleased to report that I was more than satisfied with the resolution.

Thank you Horizon Services for taking responsibility and making this right.*****

Met with salesman Jon Dobrowski tonight and he was GREAT. Then he called his boss John Cambro (sp?). Jon D told John C that I wanted to think about it overnight before I decide if I am spending 7,000 dollars for a new heater. Then I overheard John C say ' well why did she drag you out on a Sunday night if she didn't want to buy a heater'. Really, John C, I am just suppose to drop $7000 because it is Sunday? Oh and by the way it was Horizon that suggeted someone come out tonight and not Tuesday like I originally asked. So instead of thinking about how I want to finance a new heater with Horizon I will be thinkg about how many people I can tell this story to. Sleep well John C.

I had one of your techs out to my home today.  He walked in with a chip on his shoulder.  He and I walked to the basement and I showed him the unit.  The unit is a oil fired boiler/furance. He looked at it and right away, mentioned several things that were incorrect.  He then began to take it apart to service it.  The exhaust pipe(flue) was a little stuck so he shook it so violently that he cracked and broke the mortar on the wall.  He complained the entire time that it was rusty (the wing nuts are rusted, the unit is about 12 yrs old, to be expected).  He looked inside the flu pipe and kept saying that he would have to quote a price to fix this.  He went to get is Blue Book a/k/a price book and came back in to tell me that he had a absesed tooth and was in  a lot of pain, and that he called his Supv to tell him that he was not doing any other service calls today.  He then went on to say that he was NOT going to service or work on my unit Due to its condition.  Wait... are you not the repair man here to service it???   He got real bothered by having to put it back in working order.  He even admitted to me that  we don't really work on oil systems, just do cleans, you need to call someone that just fixes them WHAT???    He was then TOLD to leave.  He then had the nerve to ask if I wanted my other property, that he was supposed to service next completed.  I nicely told him to go!!!  I even called your office as he was still in my driveway, got a run around and told there was no supv to speak to and that someone from customer service will call me back within 24 hours.  I bet if I needed to buy your services, someone was there to sell it to me right then and there.
WOW, was I shocked to be dealing with this, thank god he didn't pull this to my wife.  Horizon is nothing more then bells and whistles.  Lots of FLASH and then they BANG YOU OVER THE HEAD.  Sorry, that is just very poor business and I will let all my friends and family know how I was treated.

I had Horizon Services come to my house to fix the heater. The technician did not do a full diagnostic. I knew which part was burned out, it was obvious, but the tech wanted to just replace the part without finding out what caused the part to burn out. He also wanted to charge me $513 for a part I bought at Johnston Supply for $65.

When I called Customer Service, the woman told me she didn't think they did anything wrong. I tried to explain to her that the technician did nothing to diagnose the problem, he only wanted to replace the part I showed him.

I offered to compromise on a dollar amount rather than ask for the entire dispatch fee be refunded. She would not agree to this. I asked to talk to the owner. She gave me a hard time then finally gave me an email address. I wrote my complaint to the email address, I have not heard from them and it has been several weeks.

This review is written in regards to the sales rep that was sent to our home last night from Horizon. Recently, my husband and I ran into issues with our 40 year old heater, and had a service person from Horizon come to check it out. The service man was polite and suggested someone from Horizon would come out to look at the heater, take measurements and give a free consultation.
The consultant came out two days later, as scheduled, and began to have conversation with my husband about new heaters, why we need a  new heater, and discussions about price, which is what I expected the conversation to look like.
My issue with this consultant is regarding what took place when he was fearful that my husband was not going to make a decision on the spot to spend $7500-$9000 on a heater. After the rep explained to my husband that he could offer us a discount if we signed tonight and start replacing the heater tomorrow, my husband suggested that we actually would not be home to have it replaced the next day (which was true), and that he wanted a chance to discuss it first. While I was in the next room over, I could hear the Horizon rep get more assertive with his tone and ask well who do you need to talk to? what do you mean.. you have plans tomorrow? My husband then said I want to talk to my wife about it 1st, and I don't plan to make a decision tonight. The Horizon Services rep then became agitated and started to say ok but you know you have to pay for us to come back out. I mean, I cant just keep coming back out here. There are some people with no heat at all right now trying to stay warm hovering over their stoves right now, but I am here with you now. I walked into the room and let the rep know that I didn't appreciate him trying to make us feel guilty, then left the room. After trying a few other different pressure tactics, my husband made it clear that we would not be making a decision on this tonight. When the rep left, he was very obviously frustrated and rude.
I also work for a sales company, and just could not believe the tactics this man was using to try to make us feel guilty for potentially wasting his time (on what was offered as a free consultation), as well as trying to force us into a rushed, expensive decision. Due to his lack of professionalism, we will be looking elsewhere. I just hope some other person didn't succumb to this rep's pressure tactics and guilt trips ...all so that he can make his February commission.

Long story short the techs are fine but the prices are outrageous I was quoted 710 with a 15% discount to replace a furnace inducer motor the regular price without the discount was 835. I priced this at three other companies and got no quote higher then 450, I priced the part and it cost 92 dollars so they were charging me 600 plus for labor , the part took 15 minutes to install
Needless to say I went with another company and saved almost 400 bucks so the lesson here is shop around don't be fooled by all their commercials

Love the commercials...we'll be there when you need us. We purchased a home for my aging parents, they needed a verification stating that the heater had been serviced within the last 2 years.  I called Horizon based on their promised quick and professional services.  Okay...after their customer service person gave me this long drawn out speech (even though I told them that I would only go with them IF they could provide quick service), took all my information, transferred me to scheduling.  Scheduling proceeds to tell me that it would be weeks before they could get a tech to service the heating system, it's not a priority.  For $289 shouldn't it be a priority????  Telling me on the 11th of June that they couldn't possibly be out until the end of the month isn't great customer service.  Definitely feel that the advertisements are false.  BTW I'm in the mortgage business, have a realtors license and my husband has lived in this area all of his life...they won't be getting any recommendations from us.  Downingtown-Thorndale Area

Be careful with this company!!!

I needed a new heater, called for a quote.  They showed up took all the information and wouldn't give me quote because I told the guy I was waiting on 2 other quotes.

He wanted to come back after I received those quotes so he could help me compare everything.

I explained that I have installed heaters in the past and I was quite capable of comparing myself.  I called them 3 times but they wouldn't give me a quote unless they could come back to the house and see their competitors quotes.

This spells HARD SELL to me.  6 months have gone by, I have a new heater and I still haven't head from Horizon services.

Thought i was going to get the usual great service that i have received in the past from Horizon Services ... Not this time!!  Got a written quote for a new Draft motor kit from a technician on Friday for $769 (Service Partner Rate) Standard rate was $905.
Got a call Tuesday morning that the parts were in and needed to schedule an appointment for installation, which i set up for Thursday.  The technician came as scheduled Thursday evening. About halfway into his work his Boss calls him and asked him to verify the price for the job. I showed the tech my WRITTEN quote, he then tells me that i was MISQUOTED??
And that the price would be DOUBLE YES DOUBLE!!!!
Then i'm thinking to myself i'm getting the old Bait and Switch!!
I then got on the phone to dispatch, the lady talked to this manager who relayed back to her that his new price stands and will not be lowered no matter what!!
Needless to say i was very appalled by this very unprofessional treatment, especially in the middle of an installation!
BUYER BEWARE!! YOUR WRITTEN QUOTE IS APPARENTLY MEANINGLESS!!

Update: Horizon called me the day that I posted this review. Like I said, their customer service is really tip top. Meg was great and really wanted to make sure that I was satisfied with Horizon and to keep me as a future customer. Again, she was polite and understanding to my review and view on the situations I outlined in my original review. If anything I just wanted to make sure that people are aware that I have never had any issue with their customer service. But as I stated, I will be doing more research before committing to any future services with anyone for that matter (I know, that should be what you always do), and I will continue to include Horizon in any future quotes I may requires.

The reason Horizon advertises so much in print and TV is because they charge at least 20% over normal service providers.  In most cases they won't quote prices on the phone but want to get into your home.  I needed a water heater and their price was 50% more than Lowe's.  When I challenged them they went thru a routine like a car salesmen called   the manager who agreed to lower the price.  Although they do respond quickly, I feel sorry for seniors who fall prey to them.

If I could rate it zero stars I would. I have a house that has two heating zones. I contracted with Horizon to perform  mantenance on my units. They informed me that my one unit was on its last legs and I could either repair it for thousands of dollars or replace it. They sold me a new unit. The next year the service man told me that my other unit could go at any minute and it would take almost $2000 to repair. He also pointed out the serial number and told me that the unit was 7 years older that what I believed it to be. I ended up contacting the manufacturer and they confirmed that I was correct on the age of the unit and he was wrong. I was almost sold another $8500 unit when I did not need it. By the way I have not had any service performed and the unit that was going die any minute now is still running strong 2 years later.
But it gets even better. They sent me a letter regarding the unit they installed in September of 2011. They said it needed an inspection. I made an appointment for the morning. Took off from work for what I thought was just the morning. After 1 PM I cllaed the county only to find out from the inspection office thatsaid the inspection was requested for for the afternoon. Instead of missing a half days pay I just missed a whole days pay. Thank you HORIZON.
DO NOT BE FOOLED. Horizon's personnel sound polite on the phone, and their service men are clean and courteous but I found them to be rip off artists trying to sell you equipment that you do not need.  All of those buses painted with Horizon all over it cost a lot of money which appears to be passed on to anyone who uses their services. It has cost me dearly and possibly you too if you choose to use Horizon.

I cannot believe that we are at this again. The replaced motor, that was replaced again is not working again. My wife and I awoke to a buzzing motor. I just had our annual check up on 1/2/15 no issues.   I could understand that things need repair, but the same part each time. Of course Horizon is booked today so no one is available and Linda on the service line does not understand the meaning of the word. It has to be shoddy replacement parts. If you recall the last go around I had them put my original motor back on until their replacement motor arrived. I am in awe.

Professional but way over priced

2 guys showed up on time to fix my AC for a $90 fee to show up.   One seemed unstable. They diagnosed the problem and showed me a price of $450 to replace a capacitor (about a $25 max part and 10 minutes of labor).  I called the BS flag and the price dropped by half, but in the end I still feel ripped off.  It didn't help that they initially installed an under sized capacitor.

The plus side is that the guys were on-time and nice.

I have a Bradford White MIITW75T6CN10 - 75 gallon, power vent, electronic ignition.
6/19/2012 with a failed ignition, that was installed in November, 2001.   On 6/19/12 it failed to ignite.   I called three plumbers:
- The first plumber told me to replace it sight unseen.
- The second plumber vetted the power vent but couldn't further diagnose the heater.   Wanted to just replace it 'cause it was 10 years old.
- The third plumber - Horizon - also wanted to replace it, but I pushed him to find the frigging problem.  I got him to do multitesting on the gas control module, and he finally determined that the ignition part ($42 on Amazon - Honeywell q3400A igniter flame rod assembly) was defective.   Charged me $370 for the entire experience.   What a waste.
- It is clear that Horizon is very responsive and will tell you the price up front before you approve the job.   Those are all good things.   But the price for repair appeared excessive, and the initial resistance to diagnosing the problem and instead going immediately to replacement as the answer was irritating.  Their quote, by the way, to replace the unit was $3500 - compared to the second plumber's quote of $2396.

We called Horizon who we have a maintenance contract  with because of a problem with the furnace. We were told that the furnace was completely shot and needed to be replaced. Before leaving the technician arranged an appointment for the following day with the Horizon furnace sales team.He left me with this bleak news and in a cold house with a young family (but not without collecting a check for the call out).
After getting a second opinion it turn's out that this was not the case, it turn's out in fact that the heat  could be restored and a part ordered in the meantime.
Cheats and liars but very slick .. AVOID.

I don't know if the other posted. Suffice to say I had a terrible experience with Horizon today after being a long term customer. Awful. Without getting angry it moved up the line until I got a call from an owner. His opening was an apology and what can I do rto make it right?. He did and we had a long talk on how to make his business better. A stand up guy. Very Impressive.

I have used Horizon Services on many occasions.  The best part is that they come 24/7 and for that I am willing to pay a premium.  However, on Saturday (5/23/15) Memorial Day Weekend HORIZON SERVICES MISDIAGNOSED A PLUMBING ISSUE.  The service line coming into my home broke.  Shawn (Tech) said that I did not have a plumbing issue.  He said that ground water under the slab had not been draining properly (not true).  On Sunday (5/24/15) my home filled with water ruining newly installed carpeting, drywall, baseboards & doors.  Horizon Services sent an employee to fix the damages to my home, but as the repairs became more costly they decided to submit an insurance claim.  Their insurance company is not paying for all the repairs.  I am so disappointed since the premise of their tv/radio commercials is RESPECT FOR YOU & YOUR HOME and WE GO THE EXTRA MILE.

Left a review and it was deleted, so can only imagine how many others are taken down because from everyone I've talked to they should be nowhere near 4.5 stars. So it's middle of winter, I have small kids and the rep that comes out basically tells me he won't do anything to fix it and I need a new furnace at an astronomical price. I have someone else come out and for a fraction of the price fix the issue. Feel like the company is trying to take advantage of people because it's winter and they know most won't do the research because it's very scary to not have heat especially with kids. Would never use again and will tell everyone I know about experience:(

DON'T USE THIS COMPANY, THEY ARE SCAM ARTISTS!
Called Horizon Services for a repair call.  Specifically told the girl that answered the phone AND the scheduler that the ignitor was bad.  Both girls said that the technician would have a well stocked truck but never mentioned that the part that is $25 retail was going to be marked up to $350!!!  So the technician showed up and in the two minutes he spent in my house, he diagnosed the problem, and you guessed it, the ignitor was bad and he wanted $400 to fix it.  I know for a fact that the part can be purchased for $25 because I just did so.  We ended up having to pay the technician $85 to come out to diagnose what we already knew and told them on the phone.
My recommendation is if you need someone to do repairs, contact a small local company where you can speak directly with the owner or the technician and they can inform you up front what kind of costs you are looking at.
I wish that I didn't have to give this company 1 star but unfortunately there was no choice to give zero!!!

Also, I have no idea how this company has a 4 star rating on here when the MAJORITY of the reviews are extremely negative!!!!  Please take the time to read through the other 72 reviews on here that for the most part state that this company is a bunch of thieves!   I wish I had done so before making the mistake of calling them.

I got an online response from Frank one day after I posted my complain, then a phone call from Nicole yesterday.
Nicole apologized that they should honored the Ad immediately that day,  and she  offered to reschedule the service on weekend so I don't need to take a day off.  She also offered to do the service without charge  (well I'll pay the service I received, and plan to use Horizon again next year).

From Horizon's response,  I realize that Horizon is still a sound organization, they do care about their customers.

BTW, one of the reason that I like Horizon is that all of their technicians use shoe covers when they entering our house.

A couple of years ago we had a technician come out as part of their maintenance program that you can pay for. When the technician came he was greeted by my 91 year old father-in-law. He went to check the heater and then called my father-in-law down to see all the problems the heater had (which by the way was only two years old). By the time he left, he quoted the cost of repairs to be over $10,000 (that's right..you read this correctly). When I came home my father-in-law was upset at all the money it was going to take to fix the numerous problems. I then decided to call another plumber who I knew to get a second opinion. He came out and told me nothing was wrong with the heater and then charged me for the visit (guess who I wanted to send that bill to..). I am writing this now....two years later....and the heater continues to work great! I have heard from others who have had a similar experiences with Horizon.

My gas furnace did not start up. I had replaced my old analog thermostat with a new digital thermostat a few years ago with no problems. I am familiar with the workings of my gas furnace, and replaced my hot surface ignitor with a new one but this was not the cause. So I called Horizon to come fix whatever the problem could be. The technician could not get the furnace to start, so he bypasses the thermostat by rewiring the furnace, and the furnace starts. He then examines my heat exchanger and notices very small cracks. At this point he stops all work and states he cannot do anything else to fix my furnace because it is company policy to not get my furnace in working condition until I replace the cracked heat exchanger due to possible CO poisoning. I have several problems with this. First, my very tiny cracked heat exchanger in no way is related to why my furnace is not starting. In fact, many people now who have old furnaces greater than 15 yrs old are using their furnace with cracked heat exchangers. Second, the assumption that cracked heat exchangers lead to elevated CO levels in the home is wrong. I have CO detectors all over my house and none have gone off. Also the technician did not have any CO meter and did not take any measurements to verify his assumption. Third, he quotes me $300 to replace my thermostat with a new analog one and $1700 to replace my heat exchanger. Seeing that I have replaced my own thermostat, a digital one at that, for less than $50, this is outrageous. I paid my showup fee to Horizon and told the technician to get out. Afterwards I fixed my problem by replacing my induced draft motor, which was the real cause of my problem. Horizon is overrated. Look closely at the bad reviews online and you will conclude that these guys play on your fear and overcharge you and tell you that you need replacements that are not needed. So beware, they are con-artists of the highest caliber.

I am a very dissatisfied customer of Horizon.  I have been waiting since April 1, 2014 for the sales manager to get back to me about why I was not told that their finance program was a credit card company.  After the purchased of a new air and heating system, I had many complaints about Pete the Plummer who came to my home to sell his goods. I could right a book about the things Pete did wrong! I spoke to the sales manager about Pete and his many errors.  The manager replied with a good old boy response by saying that he would fire Pete if he didn't know him and his work.  I was told that Pete would be written up.  Really?
The sales manager never addressed the issue with the credit company that they use to finance the 17,500.00 system.  Horizon advertise low interest rates, but they couldn't tell me why my rate was 10%.  My credit rating was 811, so that wasn't the reason.  When I asked the sales manager why it was 10% he told me that he was writing down everything that I was saying.  The other problem is that when they gave me credit they didn't say anything about the processing fee and interest.  When the credit company added those amounts in I got a negative mark on my credit report for exceeding my credit limit!  That's not OK!  My credit score has dropped more than 30 points.  I received no explanation yet!   This company does not follow through on their promises.  I will write a comment also on the BBB.  Horizon does not stand behind their promises.  That's fraud to me.  I am dissatisfied and need answers. You advertise that if a client isn't satisfied Horizon will pay for the system.  Where is the check ?

On 11/23/14 a technician, Jeff G. From horizon came to evaluate why my heat pump was on auxillary heat and was running cold air. He said that it was installed poorly, had mold inside the furnace and needed to replace the reversal valve along with a 10 guage wire that was against code. The cost to replace the reversal valve would be around 3,000.00! He said that the heat pump would have more future problems and that ideally should have the heat pump furnace replaced at a cost of 12,000.00!
I paid 198.00 for his time. After the initial shell shock, we decided to get another evaluation. We contacted Good Plumming & Heating and after their technician looked at everything said the only thing needing replacing was the replacement valve. I showed him the wire that was replaced by Horizon and he said there was no need for this to be replaced as it was a back up wire that runs on only 30 amps not 60 amps as horizon stated. Additionally, Goods technician said there was no mold! Good HAVAC replacement value cost and time was under 1,000.00 and the furnace is now running fine.
The bottom line is: Unless you like to spend twice as much and have a technician who's motivation is likely to get a commission on selling a new furnace, stay away! Horizons tech was very misleading. I felt ripped off.

I must agree with the other review (not the good one...that person must be a  plant, or mis-informed and soon to be fleeced). It was a while back, but I feel I must remark. Horizon sent out a tech after my AC stopped working. The tech looked at my heat pump and noted the age of the unit. He never investigated, never open any equipment (inside or outside of the home) .. This weasel informed me that my unit was shot and I needed to replace the entire system (approx 6,000 - 7,000) after he left I felt really hustled so I called another HVAC company (County HVAC .. read my positive review about these good people).. County HVAC came out... spent time investigating and found my problem to be a faulty relay switch which he replaced in an hour (tough to get to location) and the whole thing cost about 150.00 .... if you like cheap hustlers and liars then Horizon is the company for you... wonder how many little old ladies they have hosed with their BS.... scam artists!

My main sewer line was clogged, and I called Horizon for their $129 special.  When the tech got there, he had me sign a few forms and then ran his snake in the sewer line.  When he yanked it out the snake broke inside my main sewer line.  He said that ain't good and told me that it would cost me about $5000.  I said, you broke your line in my pipe and I have to pay five grand?.  He said, well you signed the hold harmless agreement, too bad.  The next day I spoke with John McGlocklin a manager at Horizon.  He said that he would only charge me $2800.  I said, what are you kidding.  Come get your snake.  He said too bad, $2800.  I won't be using them again.  I'm going to stick to the small time local plumber.

FOLKS RUN!!! Do not give this company your time or your money.  They don't respect you or your time. I had made an appointment to talk about a new furnace.  I wasn't able to keep that appointment and stated I would call them back and reschedule.  Well that was not good for the salesman.  He is all about sales.  As a matter of fact in a week he had called a few times.  I had called to speak to a Manager on Tuesday and here it is Friday night and I guess that Manager is still in the meeting they were in.  I also wrote a letter and guess what?? No response back at all. This company doesn't give a care about you and they don't understand what customer service is.  I really love my technician, but I think it is time for me to move on as I can't pay someone to treat me like dirt.  I guess I have learned my lesson and I hope I can help someone else from making a mistake with this company.

They do not do what they say in their dvertisement.  They are not early is on time... on time is late.... and late is unacceptable.   I called for emergency service 11:30 a.m. on a Saturday afternoon they said they could come out between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.  I later received a call 5:45 p.m. telling me they we're delayed at another emergency and would get there when they could.  Horizon did not consider my emergency important because they did not send another service Techician to my home....like they claim in their advertisement.  Bottom line is that Horizon does not practice what they advertise....  Needless to say I contacted another plumber and had the emergency repair completed. Calling Horizon was a total waste of my time and will NEVER call them again.....NOT A RELIABLE COMPANY.

Had a draining issue in one of my bathrooms tubs, ended up needing the trap replaced. First plumber came in the AM and said that it was a two man job due to the way the drain was in there and they needed to access through the ceiling and should only take a few hours. Horizon was able to make an appointment for later the same day to have this work done. Unfortunately when Ryan B. arrived, what was to be a few hours turned into about 7 hours. Older home and galvanized plumbing and most of it encased in the concrete that was poured made for a challenge to access, repair and really give a full assessment of what else could be going on. He and the other plumber, whose name escapes me, were able to make it work to replace the trap. Alas it still drains the same way it did before I spend almost $1,000. Ryan recommendation if I rip everything out and remodel the bathroom to remove the old plumbing so there were no further issues. This would be an easy $10k +. Not what I want to do the first few months of owning the house. And I am unsure if it will even fix the issue and they may have to cut through my ceiling again. Hoping that the plumbing will hold out so I am not forced into a major repair. My only issue was when they cut the ceiling they didn't drape the doorways so my entire downstairs was covered in drywall dust because they had to go through 2 ceilings and wood planks. It also go in in my duct work so it was blowing through the house for about a week. In their defense, still moving in so there were boxes and things all over it wasn't as if you could see the dust readily until the next day when I started to unpack and move things. I thought was just in the duct work at first. I received a follow up call from Horizon and mentioned it and they made it right.

I would not recommend this company, at least not for a plumbing issue.  We called them after an object was accidentally dropped in our toilet and they sent a drain specialist (which we thought would be a plumber) He augered the toilet, and told us he had indeed removed the object and it would now flush normally. He also told us we needed a part that would be installed by a real plumber within the next day or two for no additional charge. The company, he claimed would call us that afternoon. The toilet still did not flush properly and we were never called.  When we called back, they knew nothing about the situation. A second technician then came out (a real plumber) who was surprised that we thought the cost of his visit was included in the previous day's fee.  He told us the whole toilet needed to be rebuilt and he quoted us an outrageous fee. Once we told him we would think about it, he lowered the fee, and even offered an additional reduction available from a coupon from his truck.  So he augered it again and told us it should flush better now. Then he left.
Shortly after he left, we flushed the toilet a few times and what do you think appeared?  The flushed object that the drain specialist said he removed ! He blantantly lied!  And it has been working fine ever since- no need to rebuild the whole thing!

I have a house I'm renting out to my son. The week on thanksgiving of this year the heater stopped working. I called Horizon in to look at the heater. The service tech called me and said the ignition transformer was bad and it needed a new one. I asked what the price charge would be and he told me it would be $795.00 plus the service charge. I told him he was out of his        f-ing mind. He immediately within a second said, ok I can charge you $650.00, I said try again. I wound up paying a little over $500 for a service that took him 15-20 minutes, I know this because he called me back and said the job was complete. The heater acted up again today and I called them back in to look at the heater. The service tech this time said the burner tips were too far apart whatever the hell that meant he said and they wanted $299.00 plus the service charge. I told him he was nuts and that I just spent over $500 with them and they last service tech said the heater was working fine. He said let me call my boss and I'll call you right back. I was expecting good news since I just spent a large amount with them within the last week. He called me back and said, we wont do anything until you agree to pay us the $299 plus the service charge. I told him to get the hell out of my house. The funny part is while he was there he was tell the renter that the oil tank was bad and there was no oil in the tank when I just at the end of last winter filed the tank and the gauge was clearly showing almost 3/4 of a tank. I WILL NEVER USE THEIR SERVICES AGAIN!!!! I actually called in another company immediately after they left to repair the problem and they fixed it perfectly for less than half the price. RIPOFFS!!!

Don't use this service!  They gave us a one year warranty and the air conditioning failed 10 days after the 1 yr warranty expired.  Horizon would not honor the warranty although we had the ac system serviced July 13th of 2010 and the system failed July 23 2011.  The customer service representative said their technicians do not always turn in the notes they write down during servicing, so they cannot be sure what service work was done. Sounds self-serving doesn't it?

I have a rental property and have a contract with Horizon Services for the past 6 years.  Tenants took care of the  annual  appointments normally. But start this year, I started to watch what are they doing. This winter, I had 2 appointments with 2 Horizon oil furnace technicians. The first one, refuse to open up the flue pipe and collector box to clean them and he claimed that he checked with his boss. The second one, came and brought an apprentice with him, first he refused to open up the flue pipe to check (he think it's not a part of tune up), then after I showed him on paper the 21 point  for oil furnace, he still refused to do so. I told him, If he doesn't do it, I will call his company and ask the money back. At end he finally tried to open the flue pipe but during the process of trying to open it, he found the one end of flue pipe that  connected to the collector box is rotted and need to be replaced. And he quoted me an outrageous price $627 for replace the collector box and flue pipe. and when he took the blower fan out, the blades are covered by dust and he refused to even try to clean it up and said, will cost me $800 to clean them.

Come on, Horizon service techs are basically refusing do anything even that's the first item (flue pipe and collector box) on the paper (21 point tune up - the company advertised on the website). They are very good to scam their customers. I am wondering what apprentices can learn from them. Cheat their customers!!

Horizon charged me $22/per month for the annual tune up for the past 6 years, and they never opened the flue pipe and collector box to clean them. This is ridiculous. They are fired now.

Here is what they advertised on the website for tuneup, don't trust them. You have to supervise what are they doing closely if you decide to use them. Don't let them fool another customer!!

Just had a technician here this morning & wasn't impressed at all. First of all, I don't believe he knew too much about my unit (we have a State Select tank with an Intellivent control) because he used my laptop to get the same info I was looking at. The other thing I found strange was that he stated that the picture of the plug on my computer had 5 slots and my plug has 4 (but if the female end has only 4 slots then why would I have a plug with 5 slots). After his visit, I still don't know what the problem is but it will cost me $520 plus parts to fix it. I asked him how many hours it would take to fix it and he replied that it would be an hour ($520 per hour is way too much to pay for labor!!!). So, I'm out $50 and know nothing more than I did before he came here. Lastly, he left a pipe just sitting next to my unit and when I called for him to come back to fix it, he stated, Oh, I meant to mention that to you. The person who installed it must not have done it right because I touched the pipe and it fell off.

They are a bunch of damned thieves !!!  I had a problem with my bathroom sink, the 2 techs arrived on time but that's where the happiness ended. To repair a leaky drain pipe they demanded between $600 and $800 and told me it might be higher than that if we discover more problems after the work is started I told them to get lost. I called 2 other plumbing companies and they gave me much more reasonable estimates, and the one company I chose fixed the problem for less than $100. It was a $25 part. And I got a guarantee- in writing- for 10 years.  And Horizon wanted between $600 and $800 for it! Mark, I hope you can sleep at night, because you are nothing but a THIEF !!!!!!!!  I will  *NEVER* use Horizon Services for anything in the future and will re-tell this horror story to everyone I meet. It will be my life's work to get the word out that Horizon Services is a rip-off company and the NEVER EVER EVER deal with these con artists and thieves !!!!!  No wonder they can afford the new shiny trucks and the constant TV spots and the airplane advertisements. After seeing their ads and being throughly indoctrine with their hype, I had a clogged drain that need a professional to unclog it. It was a Saturday, Yom Kippur, I had 10 ffamily memebers coming over for dinner later and I had to be in synagogue. Well called expalin the situationand was told I would get a call back. When I got a call back (within 10 minutes) I was told that they could not come out that day. All the techs (I thought that they were plumbers? ... who knew) were busy with MAJOR sewer and drainage issues. I again explained my plight even begged a little. Well no go!! I was told that they could come out first thing in the AM and that I would recieve a call.
So with an upset wife  I called a competitor. Roto - Rooter. They were there in an hour. Very polite, very sympatico and very gracious. All fixed. Not cheap but that was not the point. They even offereda very effective solutionso that it would not happen again.
Now here's the best part, I being polite called the next morning to cancel not wanting to waste anyone's time. Horizon said that they had no record of my call.
NEVER AGAIN

Yesterday I had Horizon Services come out to give me an estimate to hook up two short lines in a new shower valve that was already installed. This entailed adding two 10 dollar fittings and a 5 inch piece of copper. I have renovated many houses in the past and know it is about a 45 minute job . the guy they sent quoted me $900 !
When i told him that was outrageous he immediately dropped the price to $700. First ,how many elderly , and unfamiliar people, has this company cheated with their first price ? Second, $700. was still outrageous ! When I told him this he turned aside and snarled , you are never going to beat that price
Well I paid them the $55.50 appraisal fee which they do not take off the price of the job if you DO hire them ! Then, I found a small local plumber who did the job in less than an hour and charged me $180 !
These people are rip offs . Do not use Horizon Services .
Please get the word out. I am sure the elderly ,and uneducated are being raped

Wow,they must have paid Yelp some big dollars to take down all the negative reviews!!! Go to the reviews at the bottom of this page that are not recommended and you will see close to 100 that are almost all negative that have been removed.Horizon came out to fix my air conditioner and this company is nothing but a scam and a rip off. They try to sell you contracts and its nothing but a big sales pitch. The guy was a total creep that wanted to known if i live here alone. He kept telling me my place was nice to the point i was uncomfortable with him being here. Then he asked and if the new car out front was mine.It was not but i think what they are trying to do is size you up before quoting you a price? He did get the air conditioner to work and charged me close to $500 after another sales pitch and telling me i need to replace my whole system. He was here for 45min and the part was $38. I called back to complain and they refunded me $99.Nice gesture but i would never call or trust them again.Stay away!!!

We called Horizon because our heater wasn't working.  They responded quickly and the technician was very personable.  After he looked at our heater ($80 service charge), he told us that we needed a new circuit board, which for them to replace was $900, and said he couldn't guarantee that there wasn't anything else wrong with the heater until that was put in, so the price tag could go up from there.  Then he told us that because of the age of our heater (15 years), he recommended replacing the whole heating system, which could be $7,000-$10,000.  They quickly sent over another representative to sell us a heating system, who also seemed to be a very nice guy.  Well we decided that because of the high prices, we would wait for my HVAC-certified father to take a look at things first, even though he lives 2 hours away and couldn't come for a few weeks.  We ran space heaters in my baby's and toddler's rooms overnight and thanked God for warmer days.  Then we ordered a circuit board online for $400 so that it would be ready for my dad to come and install, along with any other necessary repairs.  Well my dad came and told us that our circuit board was fine, and found that we only needed to replace the ignitor, which was a $30 part.  He told us that any simple, routine check of a heating system by an honest technician should have found it easily.  And now we're stuck with a $400 circuit board that we don't need (electrical parts are non-refundable).  We called Horizon and they refunded our $80 service fee, but they wouldn't do anything about the money we spent on an unnecessary circuit board (which, I grant, is reasonable).  At the end of the day, though I'm upset that we spent a lot more than we had to, I'm glad that we didn't pay Horizon to fix our circuit board, or sell us a new heating system.  But I would caution anyone else looking at them that they are going to try to sell you a heating system that you probably don't need, and might tell you something is broken that is isn't actually broken in order to push you in that direction.  We'll be looking for someone more local, and more honest, for future repairs.

Talk about being selective with the reviews:

We had a sales rep come out to our home to inquire about new heat and air conditioning system.  We informed the sales rep that we could only get the unit if we could qualify for a loan.  My husband filled the forms, at the time the rep called the loan company with the information and we were told that we qualified for the mid-grade unit, which would work fine for us.  The sales rep set up the installment for the coming week, we were in no hurry since our old unit was still working.  After the unit was installed we get a call from the loan company that we did not qualify for the loan.  Now we had to withdraw money from our retirement plan to pay for the unit, otherwise they were going to report us to a collection agency.  My husband cannot have that happen due to his position in the Navy.  We were willing to do a payment plan for them and pay off the total amount by December at the latest January. Their only position was that they would turn us over to a collection agency.  I really think is under handed and very deceptive.
I noticed that my review was filtered. So I am posting this review again.  I just don't want some one going through this.

Total rip off.  Out of the 3 jobs I reviewed with the technician he only did one of them.  When he said he would get started right away it sounded great.  That was my first mistake....trusting Horizon Services.  I was charged 880 dollars for 2 hours of work to cut 1 section of PVC to lower a toilet flange and replace a toilet shut off valve which costs 5 dollars at Home Depot.  Prior to filing a complaint online and being promised twice I would receive a follow up call I had another appointment already setup.  Horizon called me 7 times within 1 hour to find out if I was going to be home.  They are eager to get more easy money.  It took over 2 weeks to get 1 call from a manager about my complaint.  It has been over a month and I still cant reach the manager.  He only left me his office number and no surprise......never picks up the phone.  You would think after several voicemails I have left he would give me his cell phone.  If you want to get ripped off use horizon services.  I would love to see them respond to this and try to justify 2 hours of work with less than 20 dollars in material cost for 880 dollars.

I have dual-zone air and heat, one unit in the basement and one in the attic. I contracted Horizon to service both. I had an appointment last week the 15th for my Air to be serviced, they called me the day before asking me if I could be reschedule because they had a lot of service calls for customers without air. I was glad to help and told them no problem, my air is fine, just needs to be serviced. So we made an appointment a week later, same time. So, a week later they called me at 12:11 pm, I missed there call, they called me again, still missed there call, at 12:30 pm I saw the missed calls and called them back. They told me I missed my appointment and I had to reschedule....ooohhh no, it was only 20 min. later, and I rescheduled for you and your going to cut me off because I was 20 min. late calling you back! So, they told me the tech. was on a call and he was just about done and I would be next . So I was told to go home and the tech. would be at my house soon, we'll call you when he's on his way. Left work at 12:30 pm. Around 1:30 pm I called to make sure they were still coming. Yes, he's almost done and should be at your house soon, we'll call when he's on his way, they called at 2:49 pm, the tech. is on his way, 3:30 pm he's finally here, 3 hours later after I was told he's was almost done the job before me. I could of stayed at work and left at my normal time and still be home way before the tech. arrived. It gets better, so I let him is. He asked me you have dual-zone air, yes I do. Is there one in the attic. Yes there is. Well I cant service the one in the attic And why cant you??? Its 130 deg. in your attic and I cant do it, I can do the one in the basement but I'll have to come back in the AM to do the one in the attic You guys have serviced my unit in the past, you know I have one in the attic, why would you schedule me in the middle of summer and in the afternoon if you cant DO THE ONE IN THE ATTIC???  Hmmm, its 83 deg outside, my attic is vented and have a attic fan....How could he know the temp. in my attic if he didn't even check? I told him to leave, if you cant do both at the same time you need to come back when you can. I called Horizon right after the tech. left to complain, in my eyes you don't treat your PAYING CUSTOMERS LIKE THIS! They wouldn't let me talk to anyone in charge and told me with in 24 hours a manager will return my phone call. I will update this after I talk to someone. Not looking for a free-be just a reasonable excuse for the way things where handled on there end.

DO NOT USE!  We had a horrible experience with Horizon.  First off they left cap off freon line and we had to buy more freon because it leaked out.  This, however, is the scary part.  We were told by a horizon technician that we needed a new evaporator coil and they gave us and estimate of $3125.00 to replace.  After asking for a second opinion we were told our evaporator coil was completely fine but if we were going to replace it, it would cost $650.  The technician from another company did find a part that was malfunctioning...he replaced part for $45.00 and our AC is up and running again, no thanks to Horizon.

I can't believe there aren't more poor reviews on here!!  This company has a tremendous amount of dings against it on the Better Business Bureau, including mine.  They have cost me over $1000 after misdiagnosing a cracked heat exchanger.  multiple people at the company promised me the repairs at no cost if they were wrong and, now that they were proven wrong, they won't return my calls.  I have told my friends and Realtor and contractor friends NOT to use them.  In return I have heard other horror stories about their poor business practices and seriously inflated prices.  I only wish I had asked before I called them in the first place!!  Bottom line ~ find another company for your needs!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!  In Aug. of 2012 they installed a new C/A unit but did not seal the hole that contains the conduits and wires to the outside condensor.  As serviceman stood in water, he said it was coming from that hole but was due to water table outside being high.  The house smelled from  mildew and after 38 yrs of living here, I decided I had to install french drains and sump pump to get rid of the water.  While the men were drilling in my basement water came gushing in from the A/C hole.  The water carried all the way from the wall into the finished part of my basement.  Finally,  with me having so many witnesses, they sent out their sales and installation mgrs. who took pictures, statements and even poured a bucket of water from outside and watched it come in through hole.  I did not need french drains.  Without the witnesses, I would still not know the problem was because of improper work by Horizon.  We are senior citizens and don't often go down into the basement.  Horizon did send out a subcontractor that afternoon who properly sealed the hole and connections outside.  He and my  waterproofing crew admitted they rarely saw the pipes buried underground.  The company  advertises that they have the best technicians in the business.  They say they are required to take 150 hrs. per year of classroom training.  I guess the crew that installed my system and the 3 different servicemen that were sent here missed the classes.

I called horizon and told them my crawlspace flooded and now my heater wont work. I am not interested in a new heater, that I want my heater fixed. they quoted me a 89.00$ price to come take a look and figure out how to fix it. I told the woman that I don't want them to show up and say I need a new heater, I absolutely want it fixed.. The woman on the phone said that she will tell the service guy my problem and if he thinks I need a new heater she will cancel the call. I said ok. The guy gets to my house, jumps down into my crawlspace, doesn't move from that spot and says yea, you need a new heater. He was at least 10 feet from the heatrer. He didn't even look at it. I told him, what the woman said and he started to yell that if he fixed my heater, it would cost over what a new heater cost. I refused to pay him at that time. I was so upset. got into my car and backed out of the driveway, went 100 feet and felt bad about not paying and went back to pay. The guy was in his van in front of my house and I asked him would he take visa? He said go to hell!, I said I am trying to pay, your not going to take my credit card? he stuck his middle finger up at me. I called the home office and the woman said she would pass on this info and not to worry about it. so I didn't until I got a letter stating that I owe 201.16$ for what I have no clue. I feel this company misrepresented itself to me and took advantage of the customer. I feel they are ripping me off again and trying to make me pay for a service call that should not have happened.

I recently had a bad experience with this company.  I had a clogged main sewer line. They sent someone with a snake to clean it out.  They were not able to remove the clog. Although they did not charge me because they did not remove it  they did pressured me to have a video inspection quickly (that night) and have a clean out and have an access pipe installed on the sewer pipe on my front lawn.  They would need to dig a hole 8 feet down or so that was big enough for a person to fit in. I am sure this would have cost many thousands of dollars. They said it could be financed. I said let me think about it, not easy when you can't flush your toilets. I called another company the next day and they sent out a tech with a longer snake (140 ft instead of Horizons 100ft) and they got it fixed for $138.00.   Horizon did not offer to come back with a longer snake or call someone else with one.  I couldn't help but feel that I was being given the bums rush  Did they purposely have a short snake so they could sell a much more expensive service? I can't say for sure but I would not call them again.

If you choose to use this group be sure you read the back of the contract before you sign it and don't pay any attention to what they say.  We had to have our entire pipe from the main to the street replaced, and were told Don't worry, in a week you'll look out there and be happy.  We'll leave everything just the way we found it - we'll even plant grass seed for you.  Then when you read the contract it says no verbal understandings changing or modifying any of the terms in this agreement mean anything - and then it lists all the disclaimers for landscaping, utilities, concrete, patios, etc.  When I signed the front, after being told it was all going to be fine, the next day during the job they came to my mother and said they'd have to break out a piece of the sidewalk.  Having heard the man tell me that everything will be left the way we found it she assumed that meant it would be replaced - only to be told at the end of the day when they were leaving we don't do concrete.  I told the guy that we had been told otherwise and he said he would have the sales rep call me the next day if not that night.  So far no call 2 days later.  I was warned ahead of time that they are expensive and sell you up, but my mother was ill at the time and I didn't have time to call in other groups for estimates so I accepted the $8539.00 price tag.  Talk about repenting at leisure - now I question if they just sold me a bill of goods.  I'll never call them again.

I called Horizon I guess from all the advertising. My air conditioning was starting then stopping a few seconds later it would come back on and keep the house cool but I was concerned. I had this problem years ago and it was some type of capacitor. So 2 days later then send someone out granted he was on time...barely. So 80 dollars later he is scratching his head saying he doesn't know what's wrong. MAYBE the thermostat that he offered to replace for 300 DOLLARS!!! Are you kidding me....bought one at home Depot for 40 bucks and put it in. Soooo 3 weeks later now the air conditioning is DEAD and we are sitting in a 90 degree house! Called another company they came in knew exactly what it was...the capacitor I thought it was but now the blower is burned up from the capacitor!!! So now we sit in the heat waiting for the part to come in. Lesson learned! So your trained technician couldn't figure out what I already knew! Their pricing is OUTRAGEOUS....get other estimates before you have work done by these people!!!!

Normally don't post reviews, but I can't let this one go.  Had Horizon Services come out on 8/16 to look at my working A/C unit after the blower motor was making a loud humming sound, but running fine.  They recommended a tune-up, which would inspect this area during their 21 point inspection.  Horizon sent Chuck Munchen, who was only simply concerned about selling, selling, and selling.  I felt like I had walked into a car dealership.  He first thought he could fix the humming by moving the motor within the squirrel cage.  After failing, he said I needed a brand new motor and wheel because he was guessing this was the problem.  I knew these parts were still covered under warranty, so I wasn't expecting a huge bill.  He said it would take an hour to install, and then quoted me at $913 for just labor.  Can't get too mad about the quote because he was just quoting from a set guide.  That's more of Horizon being a complete rip off.  He said it's because they are the best.  He never took out the motor or did more then lay on the ground and stare at it.  Literally, the remainder of the time (over half the time), he tried to get me to buy an EZ trap and air cleaner, both which I could care less about.  He took my $89 call, and tried to get me to pay $1,682.  He tried to trick me into signing a maintenance agreement, then even used the $89 tune-up coupon as leverage to try and make me sign the agreement.  After he left, I noticed the system didn't look much different different or cleaner.  The condenser still has the same grass clipping stuck to it.  Had two more quotes today, and both came in at $200 labor, which includes installing an additional part recommended and paid for by Lennox.  They both laughed about Horizon's tune-up.  Called Horizon today.  Their paperwork swears customer service is their number one focus, and to simply ask for the customer relations manager when calling.  The operator wouldn't patch me through to the manager right away, made every excuse for Chuck, and also said their fees are higher because they are the best.  She put me on hold hoping I would hang up probably.  I was told a manager would have to call me back.  Chuck clearly wasn't the best; unprofessional to say the least, but Horizon is just a scam.  What a joke; stay away!
