I had a leak in my basement and called to have D&F come to do the repair.  A plumbing came out a few days later and told me what was involved to fix the leak and it would cost $890 which I approved.  When a different plumbing came a week later he up sold me and suggested I replace more pipes than I had originally planned.  I agreed to this and am glad I had the work done.  Before approval of the second agreement with was close to $2,000 I told the plummer I would need to make payments.  He called Sandi and she said 3 months and that I could charge it.  I told her I did not want to charge $2,000 to my credit card since this was not something I had planned ahead for.  When I got my first invoice it was for an estimate of over $3,500 that I asked the plummer to give me for other work I was considering in the future.  I called Sandi and asked what this was for and she said, aren't you paying on that?  I told her no that it was just  an estimate.  I had to recreate an invoice and send with each payment because she never got it right and when I called she was so rude.  Seems she does not want repeat customers.  The second plummer that came and and actually did the work was so nice and explained everything he did.  I will never recommend her and never use her again.

A strongly recommended plumbing contractor by my HOA and CMI that turned to the worst recommendation for home services. I had no problem with being charged a $99 dispatch fee, knowing that fee would be applied to the total bill. However, the technician made zero effort to inform us that looking behind a wall and inside a crawl space would amount to $400. SERIOUSLY?!

The company policy on the D&F plumbing website states that a technician has to clearly communicate the additional fees associated with repairs. Once you give approval for the price of the repair... That was never communicated to us, but the technician was more than willing to communicate the final bill when the job was finished. Extremely overpriced and unprofessional.

STAY AWAY FROM D&F PLUMBING!

I have been mulling over whether to write this review or not but decided it was best to do so. I want to state clearly that D&F provided no services at my home aside from an initial assessment.

They came to my home about an hour after the inspector had left, who told me I had to replace my whole plumbing system because of all of the poor workmanship from my current contractor. the plumber from D&F showed up and said similar things about the plumbing and after I let him know the issue and that my remodel was on hold because of it he began leaning into this sort of paternal I hate to see a nice young lady taken advantage of business, which gave me pause. He also said it would cost 50k to fix. Im sitting there thinking...you could build a tiny home for 50k, why would it cost that much to repair or even replace an existing system? But I was in a panic, and he could likely see that was the case. He said, let me go to call my manager and see what we can do achoring me at 50k, so that when he came back after 20 minutes and said 35k for water and sewer and it would take two weeks, I would be jumping for joy.

I put a deposit of 20k down with a sick feeling in my stomach and we scheduled to start on Monday (it was friday). Over that weekend I called around and lined up other plumbers to look and ultimately got quotes for 20k, 10k, and 6k, going with the one for 6k. So I cancelled with D&F that Monday at 7am before they could get to my house.

Of course they called to try and save this predatory deal and caution that I should be careful not to underpay and get poor value. I just wanted my money back which they gave after a week, minus $2200 for a days worth of tagging my front driveway and markering my internal walls (and then not offering to remove the spraypaint on my and my new neighbors property out front). Frankly, I was fine with paying it knowing they wouldnt get me for 35k instead, literally 60% of the cost of the entire renovation. Charge it to the game I guess, but they will gouge at every opportunity apparently.

Also, what happened with that plumber that I paid 6k to? He replaced everything within 2 days (after a wait if 5 days to start) which passed inspection with flying colors and came back and did a superb job on my trim for $1500.

Find someone else if you want help getting your plumbing sorted out who wont charge you your first born while cautioning you about being taken advantage of. One star for gaslighting

Called D & F Plumbing to clear 2 underground rain gutter drains.  The person on the phone couldn't give me any ballpark figures over the phone.  He said the plumber would have to come out, look at the situation, and give me an estimate but the dispatch fee would go towards any work done.  Fine - I had a different company come out a few months ago to clear a drain and it cost me $150.  I was expecting  maybe $300-400 for both drains including the dispatch fee.  I had to take time off of work.  The plumber was 1/2 hour late so it turned out  I didn't really have to take time off of work.  The plumber doesn't measure anything, looks at my lawn (the drain is under the lawn) and gives me an estimate of $600 to attempt to clear 1 drain with no guarantees.  I declined this ridiculous estimate.  They're still going to charge me the $119 dispatch fee.  Is $600 standard pricing to clear 1 drain?  Why couldn't the person tell me that over the phone?  Oh - so they could charge me the dispatch fee.  I called the office and the manager wouldn't work with me, played back the phone message talking about the dispatch fee, and said some b.s. about this being America and I can choose who I do business with.  I wasn't asking to waive the dispatch fee.  I just wanted it reduced and give them a chance to do the right thing.  Plus before the plumber gave me the ridiculous estimate, he said he's on O.T. and his office would prefer if I rescheduled to have the work done.  What?!?!  He really had no intention of doing any work the day he showed up late.  So I paid $119 to fight with a plumbing co. over the phone.  How they have good ratings I have no idea.
Maybe rich people use them.  What a racket!

One of domestic life's crises is having a water heater fail, especially during the winter. Cold showers anyone? You'd be surprised by how difficult it is to get a water heater place to even return a phone call. After a half dozen such failures, I did reach a water heater place who came out and said, uh oh, you need a plumber.

D&F happens to be my neighborhood plumbing contractors. I reached them at 4:00 and they promised to have someone out at 8:00 the next morning. Sure enough, Robert arrived promptly and cheerfully at 8:00, and set to work. He quickly determined that our tank had burst, and outlined the options for replacing the water heater, which turns out to be a commercial unit tied into our heating system (hydronic; it's a long story). After signing contracts, Robert located a replacement unit and set to work. By mid day, we had a new system in place, and the water lines bled. All good. He did have to come back the next day to bleed the water line to the heater (as I said, it's complicated), which now works great.

Only negative: expensive. But a commercial water heater plus a day's labor by a plumber isn't going to be cheap.

A plumber came to the home to unclog whatever was clogged.  After about three hours of no success, he decided it was necessary to go up on the roof and attack it that way, but he was obviously to sick to do this.  Another plumber came out knowing that was the recommendation, but didn't go up on the roof until 6 hours later, which was after 6PM. At that point, no one from the field would come out to help him, so he imposed  on a neighbor to come out in the dark and winds of East County to get the machine up on the roof, and then down.  The clog was cleared within minutes.  We thought we should not be charged for the wasted six hours, and that we should be compensated for a neighbor being inconvenienced. The response from the manager was less than conciliatory.  He said no one likes going on the roof, and if the guy was there that long, they should have charged even more!

I've known D&F Plumbing for several years now and have referred them on many, many occasions for both residential and commercial situations.  I'm a real estate broker so I'm only as good as my network and I couldn't possibly have more trust than the folks at D&F from top to bottom. Thanks Sandi & Team!

I had the sewer backing up into my basement.

I paid D&F $1700 snaking and scoping my sewer line on a weekend.  I asked for but did not get the cost broken down so I could understand how much of it was snaking and scanning as well as how much extra it cost for weekend work.  I watched while he was scanning but never saw what was in the pipes and did not get a copy of the scan.  His assessment from the scanning was that the clog was under our stairs to the sidewalk and it would have to be torn out and replaced.  I got a $40k estimate for that work. I asked for but did not get a break down of the work to understand what part were demo, pipe replacement and stairs and other repair work.

I was told that I needed to go to a hotel and not use my plumbing and get it fixed right away. I stayed in my home and used my plumbing and did not have any more backups into the basement.  It appeared that the snaking helped but we got a second opinion anyway.  The second scan that showed there was an obstruction in the street and the city came promptly and repaired it.  They scanned from the street to the house and did not see any obstructions.

I'm glad I didn't pay $40k for unnecessary work.

Stay away. They charged a dispatch fee without letting me know. Then they ignored voicemails, yelled at me and hung up on me. Plus they cost way more than competition. We ended up going with another company that did amazing work and didn't charge a dispatch fee

Working with D & F Plumbing was an excellent experience, I wouldn't hesitate to call them again should I need their services. We called about having a tankless gas water heater installed and Joe H. came out quickly and gave me a thorough and fair estimate - there were no surprises and every detail was explained. We needed to have a gas line run to the heater, the unit itself, and the work. It was all upfront and fair. Joe H and Will F. arrived right on time on the day we scheduled and they worked all day until the job was completed. They treated our house so carefully and were really pleasant while they worked - they didn' mind our dog supervising them all day either, she didn't mind the attention either. We kept peeking at the work and both Joe H. and Will F. were patient in explaining what they were doing and they genuinely seemed excited with us that we have a brand new, amazing tankless water heater. They left the basement cleaner than when they arrived, the tank looks great, the exhaust vents are perfect and this job could not have gone better for us. If it was difficult for them they didn't let us know. After the job was done both Joe H. and Will F. spent time going over what they had done, the basics of operating the unit, and answered all of our questions.
I am sure Portland is filled with plumbers who are just as good, I doubt you'll find any better.

tl;dr undisclosed $300/hour traveling fee after hours is ridiculous.

We had a plumbing emergency. When we called they told us that because it was around the holidays and after hours, there would be a $300 dispatch fee which would go towards services rendered. When the plumber finally showed up, he quoted the entire project would cost $850.

We asked for an itemized breakdown, which he was reluctant to give. $300 was from the dispatch, then there was a travel  fee. He told us he's not supposed to tell us how much they charged, but finally told us that they charge $300 AN HOUR FOR TRAVEL TIME. Then the added $250 was for parts and labor. None of this was disclosed to us (especially the $300/hour travel fee) and we would not have called them out if they would have been upfront. We told him these were not the terms we agreed to and refused to do work with their company.

When we called them the next day to say that these fees were not properly disclosed, the woman on the phone laughed at us and called us liars multiple times. We had someone come out and do the same job the next day for $150. Do NOT do business with this company.

Our toilet broke and was spewing water everywhere. By the time we noticed it,  there was water in the dining room,  kitchen, part of a bedroom and heading for the living room. We called several plumbers but only got answering machines.  D&F Plumbing answered their phone and got Marc out within a couple of hours. He fixed the broken toilet and even added a new flange that will withstand use and time. Thank you for your quick response.

Employees were nice and knowledgeable but the fees/charges are very high. An emergency call out was $299, including work, and a planed appointment to reconnect a faucet and garbage disposal they disconnected, time to complete approximately 2 hours, $800. Something doesn't seem right. Sorry to have to look for another plumbing service.

I scheduled an appointment for a plumber to meet me at a potential commercial site that I was interested in renting.  I made it clear that the appointment was for a specific time  because I only had access to the site for the time that the commercial broker was present. I double checked with D&F that they were ok with a specific time.  D & F agreed to the appointment time again. When the time came for the appointment, D & F failed to show up. After 30 minutes waiting for the plumber, the commercial broker had to leave the site and lock up the space. I called D&F to let them know I needed to cancel the appointment because it was locked and I could no longer access the space. The D & F receptionist told me that I could not cancel because the plumber his way. I explained the situation but the receptionist stated she would not help me and I needed to wait for the plumber.  I waited for 10 more minutes and then left.  One hour after our scheduled appointment, the plumber called to state he arrived at the site.  I explained to him that I left and the reason for my departure.  Since that time, D & F has been trying to collect $134 as a cancellation fee.  I've had numerous discussions with them trying to resolve the matter.  They referred the matter to a collections agency. I asked for the agency for the D & F invoice.  I finally received it.  To my great surprise, it was an invoice with a signature from a person who is not me, agreeing to pay a cancellation fee.  What?!!!!  Unbelievable!

I am not one to get on a write bad reviews ever but this was warranted. Do NOT call this company for plumbing needs! The plumber came by and was very friendly and professional however he was not transparent about the price at all, spent less than 5 mins (about 2 mins to be exact) in our home, cranked the wrench on our pipe 2 times and then charged us $400. We then called the service manager to ask about the charges and he was extremely unprofessional, rude, and condescending. Please take your business elsewhere!

D&F Plumbing took my credit card number immediately after clearing my clogged kitchen drain and then charged me more than double the going rates for similar plumbing work at local competitors I polled. Although I hired D&F mainly to clean a shower drain to eliminate an odor, their plumber showed up without the proper tools. D&F's plumber also overstated the time spent on the job according to my condo tenant in residence which partially contributed to the higher bill. After several weeks of fruitless phone calls to D&F management and unanswered emails that documented the situation, I finally procured a 35% price adjustment. D&F clearly did not respect me as a customer and as a result I will never hire them again. L. Hayes

This company is run by a bunch of predators! They target desperate and elderly people. My elderly mother made the huge mistake of calling out one of their technicians for a loose pipe on her 5 year old mini water heater and for that call and approximately 4 hours of work (unclear how the plumber had to fumble around that long) he decided to replace the entire water heater and charge my poor mother over $5000.00!!! It is absolutely unheard of. It went on her credit card and she finally told us adult children about it as she was discussing bankruptcy! We notified the company for clarity and to request a review and refund. They are completely arrogant and uncaring people. They knew the price was crazy they offered a small (maybe 10%) refund and no apology or anything else. I feel bad for ANYONE who uses them but especially old people on a budget. There are plenty of plumbing options in the area. CHOOSE ANY OTHER BUSINESS
Also, the employee who is replying to all these negative reviews is showing the kind of resistance you can expect if you have any issues with D&F...so be aware.

Why didn't I read reviews here before calling D & F Plumbing??
The scope of work was snaking the drain from the clean out under the kitchen sink.
$680.
I've spoken to other plumbers who suggest reporting D & F Plumbing to CCB since this is double what others charge.
I feel stupid and taken advantage of.

I had a possible leak in a pipe on the outside of my house. D&F plumbing was super easy to communicate with! Brenda in the back office was a joy to talk to and worked with my busy schedule. James was the tech sent to my house and he was on time, super professional and actually gave me some really good tips for future maintenance on my property. He also showed me some general water tips to save money. Would highly recommend!

This is the company to call if you have a problem that needs problem solving.  I had a plugged kitchen sink that another plumber and a drain cleaner both gave up on. Tom from D& F came in and saw that he had to  take out and put in some new pipes because they had been put in wrong so a snake would not go down them.  Since this is a union shop, the price might be high for some people, but remember  the old saying that you get what you pay for.  This is the second time I have used D & F. They do jobs all over the city.

Dishonest business practices!  Better Business Bureau sided with us.  Check D&F's score on the BBB site - it's an F - that should tell you everything.   First of all, they replaced our water heater at our rental house and then when it had problems (3 times) over the following 2 years, they charged us to fix it every time.   When we realized they had charged us the price of the water heater to fix it, we called Sandy to talk to her about what her plumber was doing...he sold us a bad water heater and then charged us the price of the water heater to fix it.  (We should have been more on top of what was happening, our bad). We couldn't get Sandy to return our calls.  When she finally did she said she'd get back to us. She has never followed up.  We filed a claim with the Better Business Bureau and they also experience no phone calls back from Sandy.  If you check BBB you will see they have an F score for lack of resolving customer issues.  We submitted all our paperwork to BBB to prove our case.   Buyer beware!

Plumbers are fine but they are terrible on communicating schedule. We had re-piping project on entire house. A couple of times, they just showed up without telling me. Sounds like plumbers had no idea their company didn't communicated with homeowner. After finishing the piping, city needed to inspect the job. But again, they didn't tell me when the person from the city comes till one hour before on the day. I was already at work, so I told them to reschedule it to following week. But apparently they didn't tell city about the schedule, so the person from the city came to my house but couldn't do the inspections. Later, they blamed me since I wasn't there, city couldn't do the inspection and they had to pay for it! The experience with them is very frustrating.

I was looking on Angie's list for a plumber, hit the request a quote button, and D&F called me within five minutes. The office had great scheduling and customer service, and seemed to immediately understand the problem we were having. They scheduled my project with Joe for the day after (so fast!). I really like D&F's text and email communication, by the way - makes my life so much easier.

Joe arrived on time with another journeyman (Matt). They arrived clean, in company shirts, and masked. D&F even sent a text when Joe was on his way, with a picture of him so I knew who I was expecting. Nice touch.

They were focused and professional, as well as pleasant. Joe discussed the service options with me, and understood what I needed as well as clearly communicated with me.

Next time I need a plumber, I won't have to hit up Angie's List - these are the people to call, for sure.

I met the D and F plumber out on the sidewalk to expedite his entry and to help him quickly find our unit. He then spent ten minutes on the sidewalk in front of our building unloading on me on and on because he had expected to get off early. For some reason it was our fault that he had to drive home to Newberg in rush hour traffic. I pulled the fridge for him by tilting and using the back wheels - he was about to scratch the floor by dragging it out - and replaced it for him when he was done. He replaced the leaking refrigerator water supply valve in an hour and a quarter (forty five minutes of which he spent out in his truck, as he told us, doing paperwork and gave us an un-itemized bill of $559. If D and F need to charge rates like that, the least they could do is send out a plumber with a customer-oriented disposition.

Very expensive.

Shut off valve to sink stuck open.  Faucet valve  stuck open (so we ended up rebuilding that ourselves).  They replaced 1/4 turn valve.

They charged $800.  About $20 worth of parts at George Morlan.  30 min worth of work.

I scheduled an appointment due to a water leak under my house. I was told at the time I scheduled this appointment that there were be a $119.00 just to assess the problem. When the plumber arrived he told me it would be $570.00 just to crawl under the house just to see what the issue was. This $570.00 was only to crawl under the house, not to fix the problem. I asked him to leave, which he did, but I was still charged the $119.00 fee when no work or assessment was dome.

I had a leak in my backyard from an old sprinkler system with galvanized pipes....called D & F Plumbing to get an estimate. I was told there was a $99 fee just to come out and look, but I needed immediate help so, I agreed. The nice young man came and assessed the situation, made a call into the boss and said it would cost a minimum of $2600 (less the $99) as long as the leak was within the 21 foot pipe span, but could be a lot more. I ended up getting another bid from United - a great company - no charge to come out and survey the problem, said he wasn't sure what he would find, but said that $2600 sounded really high.....he dug three feet, found the leak and repaired it all for $243.00!! What a price difference ($2347.000 to be exact)....very happy with the job and will not be calling D & F again. I'm still upset about paying the $99 fee just to get them out to my house for an unreasonable bid.Thank you United for your quick fix and honesty. I recommend United to anyone needing a plumber. Feel a return of my $99.00 would be fair from D & F Plumbing, but I doubt that will happen.

I called D & F and the appointment setter was fine, and polite.  I let them know I need someone to diagnose the source of a leak in my master bathroom.  I had recently redone the bathroom and it has a small leak but I can't find the source.  The appointment setter let me know it would be $119 to get the plumber out there but they would take that off of the cost of the repair.  I let him know that I would likely do the repair myself but would happily pay $119 for the plumber to identify the source.  The plumber arrived half hour early  which wasn't a biggy by I would have appreciated a call to let me know(I was at work).  He proceeded to tell my wife it would be $400+ dollars to simply identify the source of the leak.  Mind you I already opened up the ceiling below the bathroom so its likly a matter of peering up.  If this is not a bait and switch operation I don't know what is.  The appointment setting did not mention there would be a giant upcharge for simply having a plumber take a look.  If he had mentioned there are charges not only for the repair, but the diagnosis would also have a charge I wouldn't be as upset.  I am shocked this company is still in business.  This company is the reason there is mistrust in this line of work.   Even if they were charging $80 an hour, they are literally saying that this diagnosis will take 5+ hours.  RIP OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We needed a toilet water supply line replaced.  We charged the 99 service charge.  They wanted 400 to fix the problem, maybe more.  But they would have to get the part and come back tomorrow.  We said no. They still got 200 from us to get the toilet back to where our tenant could use.  Hostage money. We had another plumber fix it for 150.  Will never use again

Their fee was astronomical and very unfair.  They took about 5 minutes to snake and unclog my kitchen sink and charged me $250.  He quoted the job taking 2 hours and when it took him about 5 minutes he would not lower the price.  I called the owner, left a very nice VM with never a return call.

I told the concierge in my building who recommended them and they did not return her call either.  She was very surprised that they would charge that much!  I doubt they will get anymore business in my building.

Underground pipes from toilet were clogged. They came out, dug the hole and left. Said they would be back the next day but didn't show up. One week later after no one showing up my husband fixed it since they wouldn't return our calls. We got stuck paying the full price of the repair and all they did was dig a hole in our yard!  They start jobs and then leave so you're locked in and start more jobs. I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy

The absolute worst.  If you have to call an attorney to get their attention then you know you're in a mess.  When the manager hangs up on your attorney you get an idea of their customer service.  Terrible and frustrating.  Also DO NOT give them your credit card information as they will charge to it freely without an invoice or permission.

Had a leaky bathroom sink pipe and a slow flushing toilet .  Called on Monday and they were out to visit by Wednesday.  They started work at 10 and were done by noon that same day.  Might not be the cheapest person, however, they we very flexible with time and responsive.

Phil saved my house with his careful assessment. I called him for an entirely separate issue - which he fixed beautifully - but if he hadn't gone above and beyond and checked my entire water system he'd never have noticed the corrosion on my water line where it entered the house. I certainly wouldn't have known. It was corroded nearly through where the pipe went through the cement wall of the basement.  He saw it, diagnosed it, made a plan to fix it, got all the locates called in, and permits pulled, and got it fixed before anything terrible happened. It was basically galvanized steel lace.

Welp, finally got an email with the recording of the call where D&F just INSISTS I had agreed to a $119 inspection fee. Their CSR rep started off by transcribing the call inaccurately, adding in words where they didn't exist to make it sound like the inspection fee was clearly called out. Then, he dug his heels in and got super agitated when I called him out on it. Way to keep it professional, guys . Believe me, I didn't want to spend the day emailing you, either.

HERE'S MY WARNING: D&F won't mention an inspection fee or a fee for the estimate on the scheduling call--only a vague and breezed-over reference to some future money that will be waived if you agree to work. What are they waiving? Material costs? Labor? Is it some kind of promotion they're running? Impossible to know. You won't hear the words mandatory inspection fee until their plumber is standing in your bathroom with a quote that's 3X the market rate.

It's on me for not asking more questions at the time, so I've updated my review below out of an abundance of fairness to a company that doesn't deserve it.

Listen, D&F. You have a right as a business to charge this fee. I'll even say it might be fair to charge it for putting together a complicated estimate (more complicated than taking one photo on an iPad). But, the way you are getting consent to charge this fee isn't cutting it, and if you think that's not the case, just look at your own Yelp and Google reviews. It's a theme. All these people aren't trying to scam you into giving back your hard-earned $119. They're pissed because you misled them into paying $119 for simple/straightforward estimates.

Let's take a second to talk about why this inspection fee exists in the first place. It's not because D&F gives its employees great pay and benefits. Their call center employees make a dollar or two more than minimum wage. They could earn more making pizzas at Papa Murphy's (And I hope they do! Pizza's great! Go get that money!). And, it's not for gas either. Every other contractor in town seems to be able to absorb that overhead without tacking on an enormous fee.

No, this fee exists so that D&F is always in the position of power when they estimate work. Having to pay $119 before hearing a price, any price from D&F, is a trap. It's designed so D&F holds all the cards when they are in your home, handing you that quote. You can either accept an insanely high-priced job or reject it, pay this fee, and get nothing at all. Either way, you are overpaying.

It's easy, D&F. When you schedule appointments, just say this: We charge a $119 dollar inspection fee to come out and diagnose the problem and provide an estimate. If you approve the work, that fee will be taken off your final bill. If you don't approve the work, you are still responsible for that fee. Put that message in your confirmation email too, while you're at it, so there's no chance customers will miss it before their appointments.

That's a crystal clear disclosure of your policy, and it gives everyone a chance to think twice if their job is big enough to be worth the fee. But, you won't lay it out like that because this fee is the only way you can corner people into accepting your above-market rates, and it will always work to your advantage to whisper it before the appointment and yell about it afterwards.

I'm glad I only had to eat $119. Lesson learned. But I feel bad for all the people here that got surprised and felt like they had no other choice but to bite the bullet and pay through the nose for your work. I think you owe them all a lot more than a canned Yelp apology.

Thanks again for your response Mari H.

I engaged D&F Plumbing to fix my tankless water heater which they installed 13 years ago.

Summary of this review:
D&F uses unethical business practices to try and get you to buy products and services you don't need. Some techniques they use are to take advantage of your need for immediate  resolution (like needing your hot water back on) and lack of knowledge to make a poor decision which benefits them. For me, an immediate clue was the plumber saying things like, well, you've never had this water heater serviced after 13 years, not many people use this kind of water heater anymore, and in my experience, when you fix one thing on these water heaters after 13 years, another thing fails. They'll do the math and only do work that serves them.

Background of my issue:
In trying to solve the issue myself, I removed the flame rod and electrode to clean it. In doing so, It became apparent that I needed to replace a heat-resistant gasket to reassemble the water heater and do further testing. Unfortunately, no one had the part in stock locally and I had to order it online. It was $20 for a replacement flame rod, electrode, and gasket. Wanting to get it repaired right away, I scheduled an appointment with D&F in hopes they would have the parts or could get them.

Scheduling:
Scheduler was friendly and helpful. I was able to schedule something for the next working day. Cost was $119 for the visit and this could be credited towards any work done. The other option would have been an emergency visit which would get them out right away for a non-refundable, non-creditable $199.

Plumber Visit:
The plumber came and was courteous and professional. After a short examination and conversation with his boss, they recommended replacing the heater for $5,000.

Upon questioning what a repair option might look like, I was quoted $1,200, with the caveat that they couldn't recommend this path in good conscience because they couldn't warranty the repair work AND they couldn't guarantee they could get it working after this investment.

Upon questioning what they would do for $1,200, the response was 1) to order the parts to reassemble the water heater (which unbeknownst to them, I had already done for $20), 2) perhaps call Rinnai technical support (which unbeknownst to them, I had already done and gotten troubleshooting steps), and 3) flush the water heater system with descaling solution.

I explained that I had the part on the way and asked if they had any materials on hand or could access readily that could be used in place of the gasket that I needed. The answer was, no. I repeated back to the plumber what they were going to do for $1,200 to make sure that I understood it. The plumber responded that they could reduce the cost to $699 to flush the system with descaler which would be their first step in troubleshooting.

Upon further questioning, the flush with descaler solution is a routine maintenance step for tankless water heaters. The frequency is dependent on water quality, plumbing (if it's mixed materials, for example). In the end, I opted to wait for the replacement parts. I also researched the descaling process and learned that I could DIY it with a $120 kit. In the end, I got the parts and repaired it myself (altho it took a week).

All in all, it was a pretty shabby experience. I felt like the plumber was playing mind games to try and get me to choose more expensive options. While he was professional and didn't give me a hard sell, I felt their overall approach was self-serving. Even a water heater install was $1500-$2000 more than other installers had quoted.

They did a good job installing the water heater system 13 years ago. Even so, I would never use this company for any work after this most recent experience.

We called them in for a shower installation. They charged a Flat Rate which amounted to nearly $450 an hour.
Their point of contact was rude, and entitled and they didn't give us a choice in what shower we could install. The one they did install is terrible and wildly overpriced.
They tore out WAY more wall than necessary which they did not repair nor did they have a partnered framing and drywall person available to repair it. Basically leaving us with no useable bathroom.
After their service, our shower spits rusty water every time you turn it on which had never happened before.
They installed the showerhead off center.
Their customer service staff are awful. When I called about the insane bill they kept saying We charge a Flat Rate and all our journeymen are licensed. as though that somehow excused charging $450 an hour for a bad shower install.
The final cost was nearly $8,000 for about 8 hours of work, less the MSRP of the shower. For that price, with a decent contractor, we could have almost paid for a full remodel that we would have actually liked and had a choice in. Instead, we're left with this. We've filled a CCB complaint but I doubt that will amount to anything. All I can say is, if you have any plumbing needs, do not use D&F.

I've used D&F plumbing two times now, but have had to have them come out 4 times, so that should give you an idea of what to expect. The first time was for a weird hammering sound coming from the walls. All the other plumbers I've used didn't have openings for weeks so I ended up calling D&F who were able to come out right away. They diagnosed the problem, but had to come back because they couldn't fit into the crawl space and didn't have the right part.

The second time I called them was for what I thought was a leak in the bathroom. It turned out to be the sealing on the bathtub coming off. You'd think that would be a pretty cheap fix, just some silicone and caulk, but the price quoted was outrageous. On top of that they attempted to replace the lining on the walk in tub and in process broke the handle which they refused to fix. The new liner they used was too thick so the door wouldn't close properly. When they came back out to fix that, the new liner was also too thick.

Will definitely never be using them again.

The technician walked in and took 3 minutes to look at two leaky showers.  He then announced it would cost $1200.   My husband politely said no thanks.  On the way to the door, the technician reminded him that we would be charged $100 for the call and that they had our credit card on file.   My husband called the company to complain, but had to leave a message because no one picked up.   We have not received any reply and you can bet they ran that credit card amount immediately.    We did get an email reminder to schedule our next service.

This place is a total rip off.    After a call to Delta to get parts info, and ordering them online, today my husband spent 30 mins to replace both stems.   The two Delta stems cost a total of less than $210.     After it was done, we felt $400 was a reasonable charge to have a plumber handle that.   How in the world the tech thought $1200 was a reasonable charge is crazy...   Do NOT use these folks.

Bad experience! Wish I would have read the reviews before hiring! $650 to replace a 6 piece of pipe!!!! Could have hired a lawyer to do it cheaper!
I respect and appreciate the work people I hire, but I'd prefer to have a gun stuck to my ribs if I'm gonna be robbed.
Plumber gave me a long story about worried he'd be fired if he told customers they are charging$325 an hour!!! That fact should NOT be a secret. Use someone else!!!

I am giving one star because at least they showed up. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!

I only called because I needed help for a flood and it was after hours. The plumber they sent out did wear a mask but he basically had no idea what he was doing and took advantage of my situation by charging me for unnecessary services and fraudulently trying to set me up for continued repair I did NOT need. I could have been out over $4k when the job should have only cost around $700. The plumber completely lied and said the flange needed to be replaced because iron becomes soft. Does he have any training at all??? It simply wasn't true and the flood was completely misdiagnosed.  I tried to reach out and make the complaint to see if they could negotiate and understand what happened. Someone said they wanted to help but they ended up unable to even understand what happened and then never responded. I am a single working mom and I feel especially offended and exploited. DO NOT be fooled by these crooks!!!

I contacted D and F plumbing Oct 6, 2020 for a leaking pipe. I was quickly upsold by a high pressured salesman to a full house re-pipe. The price was quite high ($14,000), but I decided to hire them because I was guaranteed that the job would take no more than 4 days to complete, with minimal hassle to me, and minimal clean up needed afterwards. I was paying a premium price, and I expected a premium job. None of what D and F told me was true. The work D and F did was negligent since the project started. The bulk of their work may have been done in 6 days, but the aftermath of the mess they created, their irresponsible, unprofessional work, total disregard of my home, and lack of communication caused the project to go on much longer. It took 63 days before the job was approved by city inspectors. They were also neglectful in following the safety protocols during covid. Their lack of response to my concern, reflects on their indifference to following those safety measures. Their website, their office, and the contract stresses how D an F strives for customer satisfaction. I am extremely dissatisfied with their lack of care, communication, and professionalism. They offer the customer neglectful work at a very high price.  I am attaching pictures of how they left my house after the considered the job completed.

Hopefully I will never need a plumber again, but if I do, D & F plumbing has made me a client for life. Most woman goes into a plumbing situation much like a car repair, not knowing what to expect and feeling like you're about to get overcharged.

From start to finish they were uber responsive and professional.  I contacted them by email at night to request a quote and I received a response at 7:30 the next morning.  And Jesse was extremely competent and very generous with his knowledge.  He somehow made spending $300 to remove my garbage disposal, not hurt so much.

I contacted D & F Plumbing to help me with my shower remodeling project. I wanted an experts assistance with replacing the shower mixing valve and re-installing shower drain over fiberglass pan. They've sent a total of 3 plumbers out to work on what I thought was a relatively simple project. Plumber #1 misunderstood what I needed him to do and so ended up quoting me a dramatically cheaper price than what I paid (ended up DOUBLE what was estimated) and could not complete the work on the day he came. Plumber #2 completed the job, but I could hear him complaining about it while on the phone with someone else (I mean, seriously?!). Plumber #3 had to be called out because the job plumber #2 completed ended up leaking into the room below the firs time we used the shower because it was completed improperly. Plumber #3 has been the most helpful and responsive. As a result of the diagnostic work and testing that plumber #3 needed to do, the drywall in the ceiling below the bathroom developed a large bubble, which plumber #3 said the company would repair at no cost to me. Well, it has been weeks (months?) since this agreement was made and I still have no ceiling repair. I'm not really sure what the deal is with this company, but I would not recommend them for anything at this point. Their estimates were way off, the work was shoddy and damaged our house, and have been slow to non-responsive to doing the agreed upon repairs.

Came for a quote. Quoted me a price I said thank you but its a little to high, and then the plumber turned around and said well I am going to have to charge you a service fee. They were supposed to come and give me a quote on Wednesday but got a call Tuesday saying they have an open slot and the plumber lives in the area. So I said sure they can stop by for the quote and then all hell broke loose.

This review is to warn anyone looking for plumbing services, about D&F Plumbing

We had a leak at our water box at the street.  My husband met with D&F at our home on August 31st, 2021.  At that time we paid 1/2 down or $1878.49 to start the work.  Plumbers came out on 9/3/2021 and 9/7/2021.  On 9/14 they sent us a bill for the balance saying the work was done.  No contact other than just an emailed bill.

My husband sent an email back and stated several things that needed to be corrected.  Both boxes that had been installed were sinking and it wasn't even raining yet.  The workmanship on the shutoff value was not done properly and it was buried and gave us no access.  The double check valve box needed to be raised significantly to prevent being reburied when the rain started.  The boxes were set improperly and sitting crooked to the street.  We also wanted to see a copy of the permit they pulled along with the signed inspection approval and the back flow technicians test and approval.

We hear nothing back until I call them and ask for the corrections and items requested and I'm told they are getting those done and will get them right over to me.

We hear nothing again until I email and call again in January 2022!  No progress reports, nobody telling us that they had manpower shortages or part shortages (if they did) just no customer contact whatsoever except a bill.  Again,  just a text saying they are on the way the very day they are coming.  This was a constant problem with them, no notice when they would be on our property.  We live in Beaverton and work in Vancouver and can't drop everything because they choose to give no notice.  So we can't supervise their work, how very convenient.  After they came January 13, 2022 we had to call back and explain the boxes were still crooked and that they had left rocks and mud all over our grass!  Again they come January 25, 2022 and correct the boxes but they don't clean up their mess of rocks and mud.  They immediately start sending collection notices too!  After a 5 month fiasco they have the nerve to send a collection notice before we even approve the work!!

We were advised we could look up the permit and approvals online.  Great service, again.   I asked what our warranty was and was advised by the extremely RUDE person, Emi, in the office, that there is no warranty.  Really.  We will bring that up with the contractors board!  The new owner/manager?? was just as rude and condescending.  They acted like we had done something wrong just because we wanted the work done correctly.  They truly do not care about the customer.

I called D&F because I know the previous family owners.  They would be mortified to see what their business has turned into.

My husband is a general contractor who does Government work for VA Hospitals.  He has over 52 years in the construction trade.  Thankfully he knew what to ask for and look for.  We want to warn all the average homeowners out there who wouldn't know these things.  Do not hire D&F Plumbing. You may as flush your money down the toilet...just don't call them when it backs up!

Great service from plumber David on troubleshooting our Eemax tankless electric water tank that was originally not installed correctly by another plumber. He called Eemax and talked to the service tech and finally got it up and running for us. We had another minor plumbing need and was taken care of in about 15 minutes. Both David and other plumber were courteous, down to earth and got things handled. My only feedback is that they are a bit on the spendy side of things but when you need things handled quickly you may have to pay more to get it done.

I highly recommend D & F Plumbing!!!  5 Stars!!!  Derrick Miller did an excellent job repairing a shower faucet leak and replacing the old shower valve, riser, and tub spout with new ones.  He was very prompt and showed up right on time.  He clearly explained what was the issue with the old shower valve, riser, and spout, and clearly explained my options.  Derrick worked efficiently and smoothly with getting and installing the new pieces and taking great care with the sheet rock.  Derrick was also very careful with turning off the water at the street (rather than doing any risk to our old pipes by turning off the water in the house).  Derrick finished the job in a timely manner and was very polite, courteous, and took care with keeping our house clean by wearing booties and vacuuming and cleaning the bathroom where the repairs had been done.  I had booked online yesterday 4/10/23 and D & F Plumbing was already able to come out to our house today 4/11/23 and assess and complete the job!!  We had also used D & F Plumbing to replace our hot water heater 3 months ago.   We are again very happy with D & F Plumbing with the shower faucet leak repair and fixture replacement that they did today.  I highly recommend D & F Plumbing!!!

Rec'd a response from the Owner read below. This was my reply to her:

All you have to do is read your reviews to see that my experience is not isolated. If you actually cared, rather than having the customer make another call after trying to communicate with your firm, you'd simply refund the money because it's pretty easy to verify what I've written.

1) Did xxxxx get thrown out of a woman house the day before he met w/ me
2) Did xxxxx work 71 hours the previous week- most of which were overtime
3) Did xxx at Kitchen xxxxxxxx fix the faucet after Jason left

I've provided all of the information to you and you should be the one making calls. If I owned that business or represented it you can be sure heads would roll over this, but you should just write responses that essentially put it back on the customer.

You're pretty proud of your prices and steadfast in your lack of customer service.

INITIAL MESSAGE SUBMITTED:

ATTENTION POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS-I submitted a written complaint to D&F Plumbing in advance of posting this and I requested a 50% refund of the charges because the plumber didn't correctly install the faucet and someone else (a different company/contractor) finished the job although their plumber charged me $720!!!!!!!!!!!- THEY IGNORED MY REQUEST

THEY COMPLETELY RIPPED ME OFF
THE FAUCET INSTALLATION BY JASON WAS INCORRECT AND FAULTY
THEIR PRICES ARE UNBELIEVABLE--TACTICS TOO--they wait until they're inside your home and you've waited a week for the appointment to hit you over the head. They don't have an hourly rate...They quote by the job but only onsite and after they've secured your credit card and have charged you the $50 appointment setting fee-which is their way of ensuring you pay them no matter what.

In addition to him not completing the work satisfactorily ---in the 1 hour and 10 minutes, he was at my condo...THE PLUMBER BRAGGED THAT HE BECAME A PLUMBER SO HE COULD LITERALLY CHARGE THE HELL OUT OF PEOPLE. TOLD ME HE GOT 71 HOURS THE PREVIOUS WEEK AND 30 OF WHICH WERE DOUBLE TIME-ZERO CONCEPT THAT NOT EVERYONE IS DOING WELL AT THIS TIME. HE TOLD ME HE WAS THROWN OUT OF A WOMAN'S HOME THE PREVIOUS DAY AFTER HE QUOTED HER TRIPLE THE PRICE OF THE PART TO INSTALL IT AND BASICALLY SAID THEY DON'T NEED THE WORK TO EXPLAIN THE PRICING.

I could write all day but as they say...a picture is worth a thousand words. These are images after Jason from D&F left me and the ones from an hour or so later after the cabinet company representative I happened to be meeting w/after the plumber took a look at AND FIXED THE PROBLEM. I provided the persons complete information to D&F to verify, but they didn't bother.

Bought a water heater from them 20 years ago for $500.  It finally broke. Called them expecting maybe $1000 for a new one. Cheapest one with their $200 off coupon was $2200. The high end high efficiency hybrid was $2900 with their $500 off coupon. Should get a $300 tax credit next year since it uses about a quarter of the energy that the old one did. The installer hadn't done this new model and had to make a run for extra parts, ($150, included in the $2900). Final cost, $2600. So after ten years it will have supposedly paid for itself.  Still, the price tag was more than I bargained for. I didn't shop around because the three ladies in the house needed their showers. I should have priced replacement costs with other plumbers before calling D&F but got panicky.

I should have read all the terrible reviews.  This company is absolutely terrible.  They charge $119 to show up to give you a quote.  Then they give you a ridiculously high price to do something simple.  If you refuse to their estimate, they charge you the $119.

For an hour worth of work, they wanted to charge $850.  What a joke.

I did get an estimate from another plumbing company.  $200.

We are new homeowners, and he took the time to inspect all our infrastructure, show us the location and how to use our water shutoff options, and give us a few other plumbing tips along the way. He was prompt, did the work we had requested quickly and efficiently, and made the whole process completely effortless.

D&F was the only plumbing company that called me back when I had an emergency.  I was able to move from emergency to just an important need so didn't have to pay for emergency service.
They were able to schedule an appt within a week which is so rare with contractors. Joe came out to install a faucet and at the last minute I asked if they could replace an instant hot at the same time. They were able to accommodate that last minute request.  It took a bit over 90 minutes to do the work including running out to get a part.
Joe was friendly and took the time to explain what he was doing.  I have a decent amount of knowledge about plumbing so would be able to tell if he wasn't be straight or worse was being deceptive.  He wasn't.  In fact he was transparent and answer my questions simply and with respect.
I was thrilled with having a new faucet and instant hot and asked what it would take to replace the undermount sink.  He was able to explain it to me and provide pricing if they provided the sink or if I purchased it.
I will use this company again.
I opted for 4 stars mostly due to their pricing.   It was more than I expected but then given they actually showed up on time and provided outstanding service.

STOP RIGHT HERE! Call anybody else but these clowns! Incompetent, dishonest and liars. They prey on individuals that are elderly or simply are desperate for a repair.

D&F was called by an 80 year old in our  condo community to fix a blockage. They charged her over $900 for this simple clog. Then the toilet was clogged again 4 hours later.

Once the homeowner made others aware of this complete scam ....One call to Clog Busters and the issue was fixed for $250.

Thus far D&F has refused to refund her money. Scammers! And more importantly just mean, greedy jerks!

Very dissatisfied with the service I received.  First off they were 2.5 hours late.  Supposed to be here at 8:00 and finally arrived at 10:30 with not even an apology from the employee.  When I called the office they were very nice, but could not reach the plumber who was scheduled to come to my house.  Then he quoted a price of $2,495 to install a water softener.  Everything I read about installing a water softener said it should be about $500 and if a loop is needed it should run no more than $900.  Well guess what...  I had the softener installed yesterday and it cost $875 and only because I did need a loop.  Won't be calling D&F again!

Grumpy old men who take your parking space without asking, and then talk to you like you're trash.

Less than worthless.

There was a plumbing issue in my apartment/condo complex. The property management company, CMI, apparently has this clown of an organization on retainer.

This grumpy old man showed up, took my reserved parking space without asking, and spoke to my wife and I as if we were responsible for how miserable his life is.

Find another plumber.

Job:
Replace basic garbage disposal (not fancy, newer construction, etc).

Pros:
1. Job was done quickly
2. The plumber was friendly.

Cons:
1. Fee was overpriced and the initial price quote was misleading. Cost was $460 for a $100 part and 30 min of labor. Initial quote was up to $500 with the reason given that some installations are particularly difficult with newer appliances. The initial quote also said that jobs were not flat-rate, they were assessed at arrival by the plumber. However, the plumber said that the rate was a flat rate, and it says the same on the invoice sheet. So this was basically a lie on the quote on the phone. They should have been upfront about a $460 flat rate, as I anticipated it would be about half that considering the $100 part and relativity simple work.
2. We were called the day-of the appointment and asked if the plumber could come by much earlier than the scheduled appointment. We agreed and the plumber didn't show. After calling D&F I learned that they had dispatched the plumber on a different job and had forgotten to notify us. The plumber ended up 30 min late for the scheduled appointment. Not a huge deal, and D&F apologized, but is still a ding on professionalism.

We'll contact a different plumber for the next job, but want to continue to stay local to North Portland.

I had my worries on setting this appointment and I knew I should have cancelled.  I have a gas appliance coming Monday and called and set up an appointment to bring a plumbed gas line 8' to the kitchen( super easy access).  The appointment was set for FRIDAY 1-3.  So I'm home and no one shows.  I call at 3:30.  They tell me it was setup for Thursday and they tried to call me, but they had a wrong number when they read it back.  This is total BS.  Contractors do not refer them, as Portland Installation.com did.  I was under an agreement to pay a service call of $99. The guy on the phone said they called and called.  But he didn't say that they came out.  Wouldn't you still go to the address? Maybe a contractor is working and can't hear the phone.  I didn't stay on the phone to listen to any apologize.  This was total BS.  I knew I should have called them back and cancelled after I read the Yelp.  Which was my mistake for doing after.  I needed an 8' gas line.  A pro can do this in 30 mins.  I guess I'll do it myself and save $350.

Felt gouged. They showed up quickly for a faucet problem, but then the plumber charged us $300 to flush the faucet line. He apologized but said it was the cheapest item on his iPad of charges that he is required to follow. After he left the water flow was still very poor. Would not use again.

We have had difficulties with a water heater pilot light repeatedly going out at our rental property.  We called D&F plumbing 4 times over the last several years and they charged us $2000.00 to continually replace parts within the water heater, never suggesting a new water heater.   We talked directly with Sandy to convey our concerns that D&F was being dishonest in charging to replace parts instead of replacing the water heater (which would have saved us $1200 overall).   Sandy said she'd get back to us and NEVER did.  We filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau documenting every invoice charge and D&F's DISHONEST BUSINESS PRACTICES. They documented that Sandy never returned their calls either.  Sandy knows D&F was dishonest and took advantage of us.  She refuses to return calls and make the situation right.  Be forewarned!

I filled out the appointment request online, but called because it said for faster service.  I set an appointment to accommodate their schedule...they don't book bid appointments after 2pm because it could run into after hour billing.  To do a quick bid???  I called a 2nd plumber and got the same thing, plus they wanted me to pay a fee for them to give a bid that would then be credited back to me if I used them.  So I called D&F back to find out if there was a similar fee because Jamie did take my credit card over to the phone to hold the appointment.  Christina answered and verified that they charged a $119 bid fee that would be credited back to me IF I chose to use them.  That was never explained to me by Jamie.  Christina's excuse was well you filled out the appointment request on the website, and the fee explanation is on the website.  NOT ON THE FORM YOU FILL OUT TO REQUEST A CALL BACK, CHRISTINA!!!  What happened to earning someone's business?  They must be hard up for money, or too busy to earn your business to charge a fee like that.  I canceled my appointment and called another two companies that don't charge a fee just to show up.

I had an urgent plumbing matter late last night and a neighbor recommend I call D&F Plumbing.  We live in a historic building where many of our pipes and fixtures are approximately 100 years old.  I called D&F first thing this morning.  Within a couple hours they had a knowledgeable and experienced plumber out to assess the situation.  His name is Jesse and I immediately felt like he was giving us straight-forward, logical advise.  I appreciate doing business with people I can trust.  I felt like Jesse offered the best solutions for our problem and was sensitive to our budget and plumbing needs.  I highly recommend D&F Plumbing!

Please do not use this company. They have unethical business practices and price gauging. I called them for leaks in two sinks. They gave me an afternoon appointment and I explained that I needed the work done that day Aaron, their technician, arrived hours late and after inspecting the problem told me that it was now after hours so if I wanted the work done that day I had to pay double the usual charge. The charge, even if they came back another day,  was $1,800 which is about 3 times what the job should be. When he told me that I had to pay the callout fee of $119 because I was not having the job done that day, I refused to pay. I explained that I would have had it done that day if he had come on time and not told me I had to pay double because he was late. That evening I found that he had run my credit card for $119 although I had expressly told him that I did not authorize him to do so, and he had written Approved in the places where my signature should have been to say I was satisfied with the service. These people are bandits. BE WARNED.

Our house was in a state of emergency when our main drain backed up into our basement after doing a load of laundry. Even worse, it also backed up after flushing the toilet. We called D & F plumbing (they replaced our water heater about a year ago) and we were told that there was a problem with our account (we had paid our bill and couldn't understand what our account problem could be) and they would have to check with the manager and get back to us. 4 hours later after we called Roto-Rooter (this is the way YOU should go!) my husband called D & F back to say their services would no longer be needed and to express our dissatisfaction, he was told the manager had been out for the day, apparently without a cell phone, we were never told, and we will NEVER EVER call D & F plumbing again, and we will surely pass this word along to anyone and everyone that we ever meet who has or might have a plumbing problem.

We called D & F Plumbing because we have used them and trusted them for 40 years. We had lost hot water pressure in the kitchen sink. Randy came to the house, said yes, the pressure was low and that to fix it, we had to repipe the entire house to the tune of $25,000. He didn't do any troubleshooting and said repiping was the only option. When I mentioned that all the piping on the second floor was new, he pushed back and said he could replace the line from the hot water heater to the kitchen sink for $2000 and again pressured us to repipe the house. Again, he did no troubleshooting.

We called a competent plumber who cleared the clog in less than 15 minutes for $180 and the hot water pressure in the sink is now glorious.

I understand the D & F is under new management, full of hustle and complete up-selling. So grateful that my gut was telling me that I was being scammed. Avoid them at all costs, pun intended.

we just had my 1920 duplex re-piped for 3 days, and the water pressure is excellent....over the yrs, we had to call someone in for new faucets etc.... d and f mentioned that this would continue until a re-piping is done...both matt and evan were excellent, masked up, and were very communicative with this big project ...they finished on time, cleaned up afterwards, and were very professional...prior to setting it up, we spoke to jamie, jonathan, and kevin too, who were all great....thx so much!

I am a building director in down town Portland. Our card files were mostly out dated so I needed to establish a working relationship with a local plumbing contractor for basic routine work from time to time. I heard D&F Plumbing's constant radio advertisements and was impressed on their extremely low builders board registration number. I called to schedule an appointment and agreed to the $99 service call estimate applied to any work. Our dispatched plumber was on time and extremely skilled at his craft. First job was basic leaky faucet O-ring replacement about $250. The second call was a flush-o-meter that needed resealing...$500 for 1 hour job. While Scott was already on site I requested a simple sink drain trap replacement and that was $250I concur that the companies business model does not lend it self to repeat clientele. This is most likely due to huge advertisement costs both television and radio. Several calls for very simple routine work gives me a sample of their work. Very good work but so very expensive for basic jobs I would not consider them for anything further at all emergency or other wise. My experiences combined with a careful analysis of other reviews shows a pattern of price gouging

NEVER again!  I had a toilet that ran intermittently and called them.  Dave came out.  He was anything but nice - in fact, argumentative and condescending.  He told me I needed a new toilet, as the two bolts in the tank were rusted and quoted between $600-800 for the job!  I called someone who owns several very nice rental homes and he said that it can be fixed for under $100 with a kit.

Beware - D&F's business practices are sketchy. Confusing scheduling. Require an upfront service/diagnostic charge but are unwilling to provide a ballpark estimate for replacing an owner-supplied kitchen faucet (roughly a 1 hour job). We now know why - after the tech turned off water and took photos??? we were quoted more than $700 for the job not including the service call fee! We declined and we're then offered a 10% discount. We declined further service and discovered after following up with other plumbing companies who share their standard rate over the phone that D&F's charge would have been more than 3x the standard rate. Nuff said.

D&F Plumbing scammed me. I totally fell for it. Don't make my mistake. I was thrilled to find a plumber to come out for a small project. Only needed a faucet changed, had the replacement. I was told it would be $120 for them to come onsite and if I accepted the service quote that they would apply the fee. I asked for an estimate and the person said they didn't anticipate it being much more then the fee. It's almost 600! Plus the cost of the faucet. Don't use this company unless you like hidden costs and overpriced fees.

I attempted to replace an outdoor hose bib and when I loosened it, a longer pipe from within the wall came with it and showed that the threads had deteriorated.  Concerned that there might be additional deterioration inside the wall, I called D&F and requested an after-hours call since I couldn't turn my water back on until this was resolved.  I was quoted a flat fee of $199 for an after hours call that only covered the arrival of the plumber, their inspection and providing a quote to complete the work.  I understood this and agreed to this charge.
The plumber, Joe, showed up within 15 minutes of the quoted time.  He was pleasant and professional. He informed me that the hose bib was a frost free type and that the pipe that had come out was part of the unit.  He inspected the hole where the pipe had come out and advised the connection in the wall appeared to be brass and had not deteriorated.  He then keyed this information into his iPad and quoted me over $1800 to do the repair, confirming he had the needed parts on his truck.
I chocked on the price and asked for a breakdown of parts and labor.  He advised that he didn't have that and that his computer only provided a total amount quote.  He then said he would call the shop and see if he could get a discount.  While he called, I searched the internet for a replacement frost-free hose bib and found the part at several nearby (and open) hardware stores for under $40.
When Joe got off the phone, he happily informed me that he was able to get a 50% discount and it would only cost a bit over $900 to do the repair.  I showed him the valve on my phone and asked why his bid was so much higher.  He advised that his came with a one-year warranty and professional installation.  Since he verified the part needed and confirmed the connector in the wall was in good shape, I declined the service and picked up the new part and plumbing sealant at Home Depot.  Five minutes later, I had fixed the issue and had my water back on.
I understand that plumbing companies now quote fixed fee work and that if this had been much more complicated, but it would seem to me that there needs to be a factoring based on presumed complications.  Especially after having already paid $199 to get him on site for just a few minutes, the discounted cost of $900 seems like highway robbery.

On a Saturday, when other companies did not answer my call, Keith at D & F Plumbing  did. He was empathetic and kind. He continued to communicate with me throughout the day. I had tried to fix my shower and ended up breaking something. I had to keep the water off. Randy was able to come out later in the evening. He was straight forward about what needed to be done. He was able to at least get my water on. On Monday, Frankie came out to finish the difficult job. He was professional and kind. It was a stressful thing and D & F Plumbing made it bearable. I'm am impressed with the professionalism and kindness from the 1st phone call to the completion of the project!

Due to the length of my review, I'll give a synopsis of why I will never do business with D&F and why you shouldn't either.

1. Much like a shady mechanic, D&F uses book time to estimate how long a job will take and charges that flat rate regardless if it takes 1 hour or 5. They don't tell you this until the time of your appointment (hold you hostage).
2. D&F's services are a la carte. Even though I was effectively being charged $500 an hour, the tech wanted to charge another $600 to install a garbage disposal (probably a 30 minute activity)
3. I believe the tech wanted to charge me as much as possible and spend the least amount of time he could on the work. Lastly, it was very unprofessional to ask a customer for their passcode to their Wi-Fi (now I definitely need to change it)
4. Bottom line - If I was to grade D&F for their service, price and overall value, I would give them a D or even an F...

During my kitchen remodeling project, I broke a pipe under my sink that required a T-joint pipe replacement. Due to the simplicity of this repair, I called the first local plumbing company I found on Google, which happened to be D&F Plumbing. Over the past few years, I had a similar job done for ~ $350 and expected to pay $500 max (considering inflation).

After the technician showed up he asked for our Wi-Fi passcode and immediately started fiddling with his ipad. A few minutes later, he looked under my sink and told my wife it was going to be a flat rate of $1,500 to fix the single broken pipe. Due to our need to do dishes and such, I begrudgingly told the tech to just fix it (maybe there was more to it than I thought). About two hours later, the tech told my wife he was done but the sink connections were leaking and that, maybe your husband can fix it.

After exchanging a few words with the tech regarding his reluctance to ensure the sink wasn't leaking and the average hourly rate he was charging, he agreed to, mess around with the sink for a bit to see what he could do. After tightening all the new sink hardware and running the sink for 30 minutes, his job was now complete.

On her TV commercial Sandy says, and I quote Nobody schedules when a plumbing problem happens they just happen. If you need a plumber call... I had a plumbing problem on a Saturday recently and called D & F's number from their website (the emergency number). I got a recorded message saying that they were closed until Monday and call back then. There was no option to leave a message.

So if you have a plumbing problem, like a leaking toilet, or no hot water, you might need attention immediately, but don't expect any assistance from D & F.

On June 15th My tile guy called dandf plumbing because we didn't have our own plumber,  our shower was torn down to studs,  Joe came in and looked at our shower and told me it would cost $3580.00 to do the job of installing a rough in box and running a small amount if pex pipe, I was shocked at the price but was at their mercy since my shower was already torn up and the project couldn't move forward until the plumbing was done so against my better judgement I agreed to have him do the job that day, Joe was at my house for about 7 hours, at the end I asked for a senior discount and he took $200.00 off the price, I ended up paying $3380.00, still way out of line, I feel I was taken advantage of considering the situation I was in, on 7/13 Evan came out and installed our shower fixtures, he spent 3 hours at our house, 10 hours total, that's over $300.00 an hour, I have no complaints with the 2 plumbers, both were curtious and professional, my issue is the price I was charged for the work and time spent doing the work with minimal parts on Dandf's side, I called and tried to get a detailed bill from dandf and they refused to provide me a break down if the charges. I would still like to speak with someone in management regarding this, to this date I've had no response from dandf.

I contacted D & F Plumbing about a project to change two sinks/faucets/toilets in my bathroom.  I was looking for a price quote and some guidance on fixture choices. I explained that I have a 1900s house and that some of the plumbing is not standard and I wanted to confirm, prior to purchase, that the chosen fixtures could be installed with the current plumbing. The people to whom I spoke (Sandi and Randy) suggested that I purchase their $99 consultation which would get a plumber to my house to evaluate the situation and provide a bid. I took this suggestion, made the appointment and, as requested, forwarded a list of of the parts that I hoped to use.
A few days later the plumber arrived but when we started talking about the feasibility of the parts he told me that he had only allotted 30 minutes for the appointment and that he couldn't take the time to verify the fixtures. I explained that this was a major reason for purchasing the consultation and reminded him that he had been in possession of the parts lists for over a week and could have reviewed it previously so he agreed to give a little additional time. Nonetheless, at the end of the consultation I did not have a clear answer as to whether the proposed parts could be used and the binding bid that was given was extremely high (at least twice that of any other plumber consulted) and carried enough disclaimers as to be completely unbinding. In the end I had a quote that was dependent on all of the fixtures being installed as-is but with no assurance that the fixtures could actually be installed as-is. I feel that the consultation fee that I paid was for nothing.
The plumbers that I finally selected to do the job had no problem in discussing the fixtures and guiding me when there were potential problems.
I would never use D&F Plumbing again and will not recommend them to anyone else.

I cannot recommend this company. They came out and did the work as requested, but it was a long journey. I showed them a leak into our laundry room (a drip from above) and they concluded it was from a toilet on the floor above. They cut open an area of the ceiling of our laundry room and said it was indeed the toilet that had leaked. They said there was mold all around. They pulled the toilet and said the wax ring failed. So they replaced the toilet. We had ServiceMaster come out to remediate the mold. ServiceMaster said they couldn't do everything needed because without pulling the toilet they couldn't get to a wet spot under the tile on the bathroom floor. When D & F saw the mold, why didn't they wait on replacing the toilet till they had checked for mold above? What a waste of time and money! In the meantime, we asked D & F to look at another leak in our crawlspace. They concluded they had to have a 20' ladder (which they didn't have) and they needed to build a platform on which to stabilize the ladder since the crawlspace is on a slope with gravel. They said they would get back to me in a day with an estimate. Didn't happen. The next day, I sent photos to the plumber of the leak. Didn't hear back. I called the company 3-4 times to try and get them to respond. In each instance, they said not to worry, they had my back and they would be back to me within a day. Never happened. Certainly, this was a difficult job...and I would have understood if they simply said it was beyond their capabilities (as another company did). But to lie to me and string me along is abominable. Will never use D & F again and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

TLDR: They charge 3-5X the market rate for basic services and scam you into it with their convenient flat rate pricing.  See their list of recent complaints to the State of Oregon at:  search.ccb.state.or.us/s…. That's all you need to know.

I can recommend MP Plumbing, ProDrain and sometimes Apollo from years of experience across all my rental properties.  Details below.

----------------

I've written maybe 2 bad reviews in ~15 years...this will be another...not out of spite, but more as a public service announcement to keep D&F from swindling others.  Though I think it would be a service to Portland if these folks just went out of business.

I have several residential rental properties and a commercial property with all the maintenance and remodeling that comes with them...for 20 years now.  Consequently, I know what things cost and have dealt with many plumbers. Though my favorites are a individual contractors, sometimes I have to call the big firms.  MP and ProDrain are my go-to's for that, but they had a couple week lead time, so had to roll the dice....enter D&F.

I had a simple job - replace a wax ring on a leaking residential toilet.  This is a 30-90 minute job (just ask any plumber).  At $150/hr (MP's rate if mem serves), this is a $145-$257 job.  D&F charged their simple flat rate fee of $535...for a wax ring.  UNBELIEVABLE!

But better yet, they said a new toilet shutoff valve was needed (entirely possible...it was old)...that was $225...for a 15 minute job.  And then they suggested a new toilet (didn't pressure, just gave me the option)...for which they wanted over $1000 for the toilet itself.  Nice Kohler toilets can be had for less than $300.

Their business model is low initial visit charge ($119), organized customer service, and then overcharge you with their convenient flat rate fee for their plumbing solutions.  So basically get in the door for a low price and showing up on time, then corner you when they are onsite because if you don't accept their pricing, then you just wasted $119 on their service call and you have to find/call/schedule another plumber.  Smart model, but not fair and just preys on people who don't know what these things should cost.

I bare some responsibility here because I should've asked what their billing model is...but I never thought a business with such a long history in Portland could be so awful...but they are.  And they have good reviews that I suspect must be manufactured by services that do such things.  It was only an $800 mistake for me, but hoping to save $$ for others.

This post has been followed up with a complaint to the Better Business Bureau and Oregon Contractors Board.  These people should change their ways or not be in business - they are completely unscrupulous.

I am taking time to do this (and write this review) because, yes, they are THAT BAD.

Note: I played phone tag with D&F for 3 days to make sure I made contact with someone there who could make my situation right before writing this review.  They declined to do so and just argued illogically with me.

We just moved into a house a year ago and thought  we had water pressure problems. A failed hose from  our water heater caused us to call for plumbing help. As it turns out, the diagnostics indicated old clogged faucets were the cause of slow water flow. Derrick replaced all angle stops that were frozen from age with new shut offs for any possible leak. He replaced the hose from the water heater and replaced the old faucets. We appreciated that he was honest about the age of our water heater but said there was no indication it needed to be replaced right now. We can now budget for that and will definitely call D & F Plumbing for our next plumbing needs. They were courteous, prompt and had great communication skills explaining our options.

We have used D& F plumbing for 10 years. They were recommended by our management company initially.
Recently they replaced the old worn out parts on the inside of the tanks of our two 10 Year old toilets, one of which had broken down and had to have the water supply shut off until the repair/replacement could be done.
They sent the plumber ASAP.
They are very competent and efficient and I highly recommend them.  Bob

In the process of selling our home, the buyers home inspector discovered that our toilet bowl was loose, indicating that the wax seals probably needed replacing. The buyer required that we replace the wax seals on both of our home's toilets in order for the sale to go through. I called D&F Plumbing to schedule an appointment and was able to get the appointment on a day that was convenient for me. They gave me a time window of 10am-12pm, which was great! As a busy full-time working mom, my time is very valuable to me, so I appreciated the short time window. Well, noon came and went and I hadn't seen a plumber yet. I called D&F and was told that my appointment wasn't scheduled until 1:30pm. OK fine, only another hour and a half. 1:30 came and went, and still no plumber. Called D&F again and was told that their plumber was running late and that he was at least an hour out. He FINALLY showed up at 3:30pm. The plumber was professional and performed the job quickly, no complaints about him. But seriously guys, you couldn't have called me earlier in the day to let me know that he wouldn't be at my house until late afternoon?! Seriously, that's 5+ hours of my life that I will never get back! I had so many errands to run and things to unpack at our new house and more than half of my day was wasted waiting on your plumber. In the future, if you know your plumber is running that far behind schedule, a courtesy call would be very much appreciated. Or perhaps a discount on services to make up for their tardiness? They were also quite expensive, $306 to replace 2 wax seals and the plumber was in and out of my house in an hour. Yes, he did quality work and was courteous and professional, but I know he's not making more than $50/hour and that wax seals cost maybe $10/each? While I understand that there are other costs besides labor & materials that a company has to factor into their pricing, I think D&F is seriously overcharging. I can't say that I would recommend this company to anyone that values their time, or their money!

I had D&F Plumbing come out to one of my customers for an estimate to move some plumbing around for a bathroom remodel that we were performing. The house has a full unfinished basement that had an open ceiling and the main drain stack was located right under the bathroom. Basically an easy job for the plumber.
After setting up the appointment on the phone I received a text message with the information and picture of the plumber that was to show up. At this point I thought that was very respectful but the person that showed up was not the person they sent me information about. I did not like that at all. After further conversation about the job and listening to his up sale for things that were not needed or part of the job was long enough for me and the homeowner that was waiting for the estimate to be completed, I had to ask him if we could step outside to finish the estimate as to no longer disturb the homeowner.
After agreeing to an estimate for the work I requested to begin with and a full re-pipe of the home that the plumber is wanting to do he handed me a bill to charge me for the estimate. $119.00 for an estimate? At this point I knew exactly what was going on but decided to play their game to see if they were going to be corrupt or not. Just to be fair the technician did say if they were to get the job then the charge would be applied as a discount to the total bill. I told him that I was never notified, until this point, that there was ever going to be a charge for the estimate and at such a high rate to begin with but the plumber did say it was to cover the gas that it takes to come out for the estimate. Out of all the contractors that I work with and the estimates that I have received not one company has ever charged for an estimate. This was a major red flag for the homeowner and for myself as well. I also asked him if he carried a LBPR  certification to perform the work, because the home is older than 1978 and it did test positive for lead in the paint and it is required by law to even perform an estimate for a customer, and he looked at me like I was stupid and did not even respond with an answer. I then explained to him that the subcontractor had to be certified to perform the work or I could get in trouble and he looked at me and said Umm, ya...sure. Another red flag is lying and being bad at it.
THEN WE RECEIVED THE ESTIMATE, and holy wow! For a job that they estimated that would only take 2 days they wanted to charge over $14,000 when all the other estimates came in the $3,000 to $5,000 range. This is a sales tactic that is used by bad companies. Their only job is to go around and charge a fee for an estimate and then make the estimate so large that the customer doesn't give them the job BUT D&F did make that $119 an hour for the estimate and literally zero work.
D&F may have gotten their one time $119 but they go onto my list, and according to the rest of the reviews, of DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH and I will have to notify my customers, when they ask me for referrals for a plumber, of the situation that I have had with D&F Plumbing.

A very dishonest and lack of integrity business. I called D&F plumbing to request for help with installing a sink.  They send a technician name Frankie out the following day.  He came to my place of business,  took some pictures of the sink and went sat in his truck for a while.  Then he came back to tell me that they don't install undermount sink. I discussed with Frankie that I wish that they were honest at the start so we didn't have to waste our time.  Frankie agreed.  They did went ahead and charged me $119 for the service call a few days.  I contacted the manager name Kevin.  Instead of trying to resolve the issue.  He was on offense at the start and was trying to blame me for the technicalities of my request. It's sad that D&F plumbing is conducting business this way.  I have heard their commercials on the radio for so long and was excited and looking forward to working with them.

We were told the charge would be $1,000 for 90 minutes of work to snake a drain for a shower that had grey water bubbling up. (After peeling my jaw off the floor, the tech magnanimously offered a 10% discount.) We were in a jam with in-laws coming, so we paid it. Now this morning my in-laws take their first shower and it's more like a bath than a shower (poop water coming up and nothing going down). My wife called D&F to have them back, and they said the work is NOT GUARANTEED. Apparently we were supposed to pay $1,500 to also get a sewer scope if we wanted a guarantee. That's outrageous in all circumstances, but particularly because no one explained the work was not guaranteed otherwise.

The most incompetent plumbing company I have ever had the misfortune to experience. Even two different Portland City inspectors, who D and F did not shown for two (!) inspection appointments, told us that (you didn't hear it from us, but...) D and F Plumbing are NOT to be trusted and that we should not pay for work until satisfaction was completely assured.

D and F may have had a good reputation in the past, but under new management in recent years, their standing has plummeted with the city inspectors. I wish we had checked Yelp before, as clearly they have terrible reviews here. Instead, we used Next Door and made the poor decision to use a company who clearly charged more than other plumbing companies, thinking that they would have a higher standard of customer service and quality of work.

They up sold a small $65 bath leak into a $14,000 re-pipe of the whole house.
The high pressure price gouging salesman and foreman bullied us into signing their contract and then was AWOL for the duration of the project. The foreman promised a crew would do the work in four days. He then moved the crew to another job before they even began, dumping the whole project onto one individual, Patrick, who did an outstanding job, considering he was missing a crew. I overhead the conversation as the foreman dumped the job on Patrick. He clearly had it in for Patrick. His distain was palpable and embarrassing.

A long never ending list of management incompetencies ensued, none of which were ever fully remedied. Patrick did his best to mitigate the incompetencies of his employers.
The manager was also woefully incompetent, unable to respond to direct emails and questions. He never ever bothered to make an effort to fix any of the issues.
The billing department started billing two months before the job was completed. It took 63 days to get the job done. We still have not received the paperwork they promised. Instead, their incredibly insensitive billing person chastised my partner for lying about her mother having cancer and burying her, and sent the bill to a collections agent. The collection agent completely agreed with her complaint of D & F, and an agreement has been made. The bill is getting paid, but you better believe that D & F Plumbing will forever been burned into our memory as the worst business we have ever been associated with.

Incompetent beyond belief.

Hire Patrick directly. He's awesome!

D and F are NOT TO BE TRUSTED!!!!

Update to my review from June 10th. Mari claimed my situation was forwarded to a service manager and I even called into D&F day of experience and requested to speak with a manager, over a month later and zero contact.

After D&F quoted me an outrageous $1,210 to replace an existing water line to an ice maker, I went to A-Boy electric and purchased and water line kit for $17 and after 15 minutes of labor, a working ice maker! I would have gone this route from the beginning but we have a newborn at home and free time is hard to come by.

Shame on D&F and their predatory billing and business practices. I have submitted a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and encourage others to as well. Avoid D&F at all cost, they are out to steal the diagnostic fee and cheating those who do not know better.

To Mari, I understand you are doing your job responding to these online complaints but you should consider seeking different employment. Perhaps to an ethical company with morals, rather than perpetuating empty promises and false empathy on behalf of this terrible business.

They charge $119 to come out and give you an absurd bid. I needed two hose bibs replaced and was quoted $1,800. Next plumber in was $350 and done in less than 2 hours same day.

Either the D&F plumber didn't want to work and inflated the bid or it's a bait and switch company. I'm betting it's bait and switch.

Who charges so much just to look at a job?

Don't use them for anything. Poor customer service and clearly looking to rip people off. If you accept this $1,800 bid you won't have to pay the $119.

GTFO. Waste of $119.

You call. These guys show up. Early!

We needed fast service and after calling a few others [who said they could be by in a day or two, Lance at D&F said they could have someone out around noon. When David showed up at 10:30, I was floored. He listened to my explanation of the problem and got right to work. When challenges came up he had creative solutions to get the job done.

Super great, work, service and wonderfully personable, give these guys a call the next time you find yourself clogged up, over-flowing or plumb out of luck!

Plan to spend all day waiting for their specialist to show up. They don't give any approximate timeframe, only date. Their rates are through the roof. Fancy vans and electronic tablets. They use tablets to show cool photos of faucets.
Here's the math: two identical faucets, two sinks. If after D&F Plumbing's installation one sink is leaking and the second one doesn't, per D&F, it equals the manufacturer's design flaw. Guys, despite your funny tv adds, you have D and F n plumbing. Back to school! Your A's are only in money grabs, by $Ks.

I called to get a dishwasher installed. They refused to give me an estimate over the phone.

When the tech arrived, he was very nice and professional, however he then told me it would cost $750 to install and remove the old one. This is over $300 more than another estimate I received and almost the cost of the dishwasher itself, which is ridiculous.

I told the nice tech we could not pay this and would go with the other company, which he understood, but the company then charged me a $120 dollar dispatch fee that I was not told about beforehand.

Overall very shady and expensive company. Would NOT recommend at all.

Edit: it took a few weeks, but D&F did respond to my review and refunded me 30% of what they charged me. If I could go back and do it again, I would get a second opinion and multiple bids.

Revision: In truth this was not a good experience that was supposed to be a $10 wax ring replacement that cost me $3,400 and 2 days of work, leaving me with no toilet in my single bathroom home.

I can't say enough good about this company. I hired them for both plumbing and Hvac, for a manufactured home I purchased for my 84 yr. old mom. The pre purchase home inspection found some deficiencies that we needed to repair. Phil (plumber) and Matt (Hvac) were the D&F technicians who did those repairs. They did a thorough job and spent as much time as it took to be sure the work was completed correctly. I live out of state and couldn't be there for the work, but they were great at communicating with calls, pics, emails, and texts. They also made it as easy as possible on mom. They were friendly and treated her with the utmost respect . She said it was like having family there to help her. Thank you so much Phil, Matt, and D&F!

They told me that they will come in 1 hour. 2 hours later, I called a gain and they told that they will come on the next day. Cool. On the next day, they charged me $119 for taking a picture of my vent pipe. I was totally not satisfied with it and called customer service to refund me. They told me that they can not refund. Okay :/ What a nice company.

D&F we're responsive to a hot water heater emergency, the value they provided stopped there. A tech came out next day, I had to pay them $129 for them to tell me that replace my hot water heater for $3300 or $10k for tankless. Zero attempt to repair the issue.

I had Stan the Hot Water Man come out and they fully repaired the heater for just over $250 with no upfront cost for the visit.

Extremely predatory business practice. I never write reviews, but this was an attempt at highway robbery as far as I'm concerned. Get multiple quotes and call this company LAST!

I am an owner of several multi-plex rental units. I called and spoke to Sandi about an issue I was having with one of my units, at that time we scheduled an appointment for service for the next day at 3pm. At about 3:40 my tenant called me and said they hadn't showed up. My tenant had called D & F directly to see when they would be there. My tenant said he spoke to Randy (who was extremely rude and unprofessional), and Randy and said he didn't have any record of an appt. that day and basically buzz off.

I then called and spoke to Randy and tried to explain the conversation Sandi and I had the previous morning. Randy told me he didn't care to hear my story and that we don't have an appointment. I asked him to call Sandi (the owner) and see what they could do for me since they dropped the ball and I was certain Sandi would recall our conversation. Randy refused and continued to be rude and disrespectful. I told him that the reason I called them in the first place was that I had used them before at my previous employer. Randy told me that he didn't believe that I ever used them before (calling me a liar), so I offered to give the service address and he wouldn't even take it. Next Randy said he could send someone out that  evening but he would charge me $199.00 to show up since I was making an emergency call. I told him I thought that was ridiculous since they dropped the ball and didn't show up, I asked him again to call Sandi and see if she was willing to charge the non-emergency fee of $99.00 since the original appt. was not after hours. Again he refused. Finally he told me that he was going to risk getting fired and not help me at all. He told me that he could tell that once his plumber showed up and told me the price that I would just send his plumber away anyways. Again, I am the owner of several mulit-plex units so money wasn't really an issue but I didn't appreciate being charged an emergency after hours fee when I actually had an appointment that they didn't show up to.
Sandi was very nice and helpful, even though the appointment got screwed up. Randy was terrible and really should be fired. If I was the owner of this company I would never allow my employees to treat my customers that way. In this case it's especially harmful to D & F because my regular plumber just retired and I was looking for a long term plumber for all of my properties. I use plumbers on a very regular basis.

I highly highly recommend D&F Plumbing. Our outdoor faucet was leaking. I tried to fix it myself which (spoiler alert) made it worse. D&F had fixed our kitchen sink in an emergency visit late one night years prior - and they were quick, courteous, prompt, and well-priced AND there was no hard upsell for other services while they fixed the problem, so leaking outdoor faucet = call D&F. Ben the service tech arrived on time (and texted us a heads up before getting there). He examined the problem thoroughly and had it diagnosed and fixed in short order. He was insightful, thoughtful and hilarious and made the process really easy. And now faucet is amazing. better than original. I give Ben and D&F six stars out of five and we will definitely work with them again!

This is an update to a review I wrote back in July.  Brief synopsis.  Called D & F to replace the wax rings on 2 toilets per a buyers home inspection.  Tech showed up and gave us a quote that was way out of line for the work that was to be done. We declined but had to pay the call out fee.  The owner of the company in a response to my review said that a tech must inspect the job before a quote can be provided and that is why they don't give out quotes over the phone. Lie.  The tech never looked at the toilets. He walked in and told my wife what the cost would be.  Which was over $400 per toilet. Outrageous.  I will state again.  These people are not good people. I cannot comment on the quality of work they do but their business practices are dishonest at best.

Nick did a great job cleaning out our 4-foot deep dry well that was packed with dirt and mud. He answered my questions about where the water leaves the catch basin, and showed me where it empties out as the water rises.  He bagged and removed all the debris. The price was explained to me in advance by Robert and remained unchanged.  I am impressed with D & F's oral and written communication, integrity and employee quality. Will use again.

I was one of the unfortunate persons who had a pipe break during the frigid temps over the Christmas holiday. Fortunately, I had a house sitter who was very gracious to take this on since I was on the East coast. It was Christmas Eve day, of course. He was able to finally reach a plumbing comp. - in this case D&F- who came out after getting authorization from me over the phone for the emergency fee of $499.00. I approved this as it needed to be taken care of. The pipe was fixed - they charged everything to my credit card instantly.
I was also unfortunately one of those who couldn't get a flight back for several days. When I returned and looked at the emailed invoice- I was shocked and completely knew I had been ripped off. So- the $499.00 After hours dispatch fee was billed, AND a $499.99 Crawl Space/Attic  Access fee of $499.99 (never disclosed to me or my house sitter) and a $1250.00 spot repair on the water line. And- on top of that- the plumber decides to tell me my whole house needs to be replumbed ! Drops an estimate of $25K along with my price gouged invoice for the Christmas eve day service  of $2250.00. So- let's break this down- it was a $1000 service fee and then the work is billed.
I called the company and asked about this ridiculous fee and instead of getting an explanation  I reached an indignant person named, Amy who refused to explain or escalate to an owner or other person with some authority. I also called several area plumbing companies to ask if they charge an access fee and NONE of them do- it's part of the job !

They claim all calls are recorded for quality assurance. I sure hope they kept my call. The BBB and consumer protection agency will be asking for it. This company will take advantage of the consumer. Buyer beware. One way or another - I will get my $499.99 back.

I live on a floating home and had a cracked drainage pipe, all of the plumbers I called either didn't work on floating homes or were unable to come and assist me. I did get a referral to D & F Plumbing and called them. They too were busy all day, but because I really needed a fix they were able to come out first thing Saturday morning. Hassan was my plumber that morning, he was very friendly and personable. He checked out my issue and gave me a reasonable quote for the emergency. I was very pleased with his quick and thorough service. If I ever need any plumbing service again I will certainly call D & F and I will definitely ask for Hassan!

We had a broken pipe feeding a toilet and D&F fixed the break, but the modern type of fix caused further damage to the plumbing system.  The CPVC pipes are 24 years old and needed to be treated carefully.  The type of fix that was attempted appears to put too much stress on the CPVC pipes and causes them to break.  The cost of that repair was $800.  The second attempt to fix the broken pipe caused a 3 foot long piece of CPVC pipe to break off.  This led to having to cut a hole in the wall to cap off the pipe.  At this point there is no water going into one of the bathrooms and no water for the washing machine.  The D&F plumber, after breaking the 3 foot pipe, charged us $299 to cut the hole in the wall and to put a cap on the pipe.  If we wanted to have the plumber attempt to make repairs in order to provide water to the bathroom and the washing machine it would cost another $299.  We had him cut the wall and cap the pipe.  We paid the $299 and are now looking for a competent plumber that is willing to use old fashion PVC pipe and glue to repair our problem.

I will not be calling D&F again for any plumbing issues.  They have failed us twice now on the same problem at a cost of $1,100 and so we are moving on to find a new plumber that knows how to handle CPVC pipe properly and charges a reasonable rate.

So, Mari H. of D&F, please do not apologize for the expensive poor workmanship that your company provides.  Instead, live up to your advertising and complete the plumbing jobs competently.

My house had a leak on a Saturday that was causing property damage.  To their credit, D&F did show up that day after a $200 fee was agreed to.   Once on-site, I was quoted $1600 to fix a leaky valve.  That is an insanely high price, but it was causing property damage, so I had few options at this point.  It was agreed to with the plumber that the $1600 was the total price for the day, which included the initial fee.   I was then billed $1800 ($1600 + $200).  I called the Contractor to resolve, but they told me the $200 was already paid for before they showed up, so they were not lying when they said $1600 was the total for the day.  The repair does appear to be working, but I recommend finding a different plumber.

Do NOT use this company.  I've called them at 503-282-0993 this last Monday for a small leak (was a small drip). The lady on phone told me that they will charge $119 just to come out and look at the problem, if I go ahead and have them fix the problem then the $119 will be waived.  I've agreed to her term because I honestly assume that the small leak will not cause much more over the $119.  Boy, I was dead WRONG.  The technician came out and looked at it for about 2 second and then punching some numbers on his Ipad then he turned to me and said it will COST me $460.00.

I refused the technician the job then he charged me $119.  I refused the job to him because the his quote is high beyond the problem.  This is pure price GOUGING. This company may be a legit company in their own way but to me they are exist to scam people.  Let's think about it.  A company that charging $119 just to go out and look at the problem then quote a ridiculously high cost.  If the problem owner do not agree to fix the problem due to high price, then D&F will make $119. If the problem owner agree to fix the problem, then D&F will make a lot more money.  Either way they will win.  This company is practicing an unfair business. Any body can do business like this, collecting dispatch fee all day long.

My problem, the leak was very simple.  It leaks between two copper pipes with a nut and a washer inside and the pipe is very easy accessible, exposed right up front and be side the door (if you don't believe me, D&F's technician took a picture of that pipe). It takes me less than ONE HOUR to fix the problem myself and the bulk of my times was traveling to ACE Hardware to buy a .65 cent o-ring.  The actual work took me less than 30 minutes and I am not even a plumber. My rough estimate is that if he is charging me $460 for a half hour job then their hourly rate is $920/hour.

I rate this company ZERO.

We were able to get an appointment quickly and they arrived when they said they would.  That's the extent of the positive feedback.
We initially called because our dishwasher wasn't getting any water.  The plumber came into our kitchen and said I don't know why you called us, you need an appliance repairman.  And it was $120 for him to show up and say that.  Their receptionist should really know more about plumbing before sending someone out unnecessarily.
While he was here, we asked for a quote for a few other items: move the bathroom toilet and sink lines approximately 3' each, replace a drop-in kitchen sink and faucet (that was already purchased), replace a free-standing utility sink in our garage (also already purchased), and replace a drop-in utility tub in our laundry room (not purchased).  The cost was $18K (!!!) and there was no breakout, just a large paragraph of random comments that didn't even align with the scope.  I fell on the floor laughing.  HARD PASS.

I made an appointment nearly two weeks ahead of time for installation of a dishwasher and sink faucet.  Called the day prior and asked to add 2 slow drains to the to-do list and was assured no problem.  Travis showed up on time, but things went downhill from there.  He said the scheduler didn't allot him enough time to do the job, and that he would have to reschedule for the following week.  My husband asked him to just do the original request (dishwasher & sink faucet), however he declined and said he didn't have enough time for those.  Phone calls back and forth solved nothing.  Travis left after giving us an estimate for $1,300 - which is totally outrageous for this scope of work.  He estimated the time to be 5-6 hours, which is well over $200/hour.  It's very clear he simply didn't want to do the job - very frustrating as I now have a new dishwasher sitting in my home awaiting installation.

I had a sink that was clogged. I was told that the plumber would assess the clog, which would cost $120. If I chose to have the work done by them, the $120 would be applied to the cost of the work they did. The plumber heard my explanation and said that to snake the kitchen drain would cost $600! I agreed to the work hesitantly because I was already out $120 and would still need to pay someone to unclog my drain.  I asked if the work was guaranteed for a certain amount of time and I was told no. So 15 minutes later, the plumber unclogged my sink and left. $600 for 15 minutes, that's $40 a minute! My sink clogged again a few days later. I called to complain  and was told that someone would call me back. No one returned my call so I called again and was told the same thing and again no one called me back. In fact, the second person I got was argumentative with me. I strongly suggest you find another plumbing company!

I recently wrote a 1 star review for D&F plumbing based on my experience. The company did reach out to me to hear my story for this review and did refund the $119.00 for a service that I did not receive. I was pleased that this company cared enough to follow-up and offered the attempt to rectify my experience. I am sure this company has received many 5 star reviews for excellent service and my review was just one experience. For their professionalism in reaching out to me I have given them a 5 star review.

These guys were recommended to me by someone whose word I usually trust, and the westside D&F seems to have gotten good reviews.  Maybe I had bad luck, or maybe these are not the guys to go to for hot water heaters.  Regardless, here is my story.

I called D&F (based on that recommendation) because our on-demand gas hot water heater was leaking.  The D&F guy showed up on time and proceeded to take apart the heater.  He claimed to know the brand and even model well, claiming to have installed many of them years ago.

Upon finding a leak in the heat exchanger, he said the whole unit was pretty much shot and further, the model was discontinued.  He made an effort to radio back to the office and have them search some info.  Much phoning back and forth happened, and the upshot was he said there was no compatible replacement either and thus, as the way it was vented from our house, there was not a new model which could fit.  So not even the $1000+ for a new unit would help us, as no such replacement would work in our house.  He proceeded to suggest some outlandish idea that we install an electric standard heater *outside on our deck* and run it inside.  At first I thought he was joking (an an inappropriate time), but he was not.

At this point, he even charged me $90 for coming by and giving me a dose of hopelessness and some bad advice.

Luckily I decided to go to Aboy plumbing to see if they had some other heaters which might fit.  They led me eventually to our saviors at Stan the Hot Water man.  By now it was the holidays, but they found time to come out and not only told us replacement parts for the model (and the model itself!) still existed, but that our unit was likely under warranty since it was probably less than 10 years old.  They took the serial # and did the research.  Yup!  Basically they got us a replacement (free) heat exchanger and charged us about $100 for all the work.  Fixed.

And we don't have an electric water heater on our back porch.

The worst professional service I have ever experienced. The service man destroyed our shower mixing valve trying to simply replace the handle. Then quoted $2500 to fix it with a poor quality part! He told me he tried to fix it and owed $1300 just for that, though he broke it in the first place. Huge overcharges and incompetence are the norm for this company.

Someone came over to quote me on my washer valves. Without even looking thoroughly he quoted me $975 to replace the valves. Turns out it wasn't a plumbing issue and the hose from the washer was tightly screwed on and we just needed a few extra tools to take out the hose. Even if it was a valve that needed to be replaced the quote is high considering he didn't look thoroughly.

I just had the worst experience in my life with D & F Plumbing. I sold my condo and needed a pipe replaced and they were recommended by our building. I set up the appointment for a time when my wife could be there. The plumber showed up said what needed to be done and my wife agreed with him. There was never discussion of a price or how long it would take. He came and went from the building four times (to get parts, take smoke breaks, who knows what). Two hours late the pipe was installed and he handed my wife a bill for $475. My wife was in shock and immediately texted me. The plumber told my wife he forgot to give her a quote, but that was the cost and to call the office if she had any questions. AFTER the work was completed, he had my wife sign the quote sheet and give him the credit card numbers. They following business day, I called D & F. They asked the plumber and he said he gave her a quote and they have my wife's signature on the quote sheet saying she approved it before the work was completed. It was his word against her and they believe their plumber. I can't tell you how outraged and disappointed I was. I proceeded to get into an argument with the person who answered the phone and it pretty much seemed like business as usual there. I will say you can believe whoever you want in this case, but the way were treated in this scenario is nothing short of disrespectful and dishonest. Stay far away from D & F plumbing.

Was told that they would come out and do an inspection and the charge would be $130 applicable to work done if hired. If you count poking your head into one bathroom and standing in the other an inspection  I guess I got what I paid for. Emailed them for clarification. No response.

Wow, love our plumber. We are in the process of moving into a condo which is a new experience for us former house owners. Our guy knew the building, knew the plumbing issues associated with life in a multi unit.  He was super pleasant, showed up on time, had all the tools he needed and  knew what he was doing and had our kitchen sink up and running very quickly- for sure our new plumber. Highly recommended.

Be aware, stay away.  We contacted this plumbing company for a kitchen faucet that was not running enough water.  After many delays and excuses the technician said that the whole faucet had to be replaced.  He gave us a high estimate and we decided to wait on it.  He charged us $110.00 for his visit and left.  I discussed this with a nice neighbor who came over and opened the nut from the hose connected to the faucet and there it was small sand. After he cleaned them I had more pressure than before.
We called the plumbing company again to let them know but they were very rude and not even interested.
For your plumbing needs look elsewhere.

We were having kitchen faucet problems, so we hired the only available plumbers in East Portland (Did they know they were the only ones?). Plumber said we needed an entire new faucet. After phone calls and a departure and return, he brought in the only faucet around that could fit our sink. Apparently we had an unusual sink. He installed it, but he left a rubber gasket sticking out from between the chrome plate and the porcelain, pinched against the back of the sink (still like that today). Not only was the faucet ugly and small, but the install was pretty shoddy. Total cost was $600.00. Seriously.

It turns out that a wall-mounted 8-inch spread faucet is not very unusual, but might not be readily available in town. The faucet he installed can be purchased through Amazon for under $40.00. Within a few months it was leaking. A year and half later, it needs a full replacement. They came back, at least, to take at look it. Told me they could try to fix it, but it would cost me. Nahhhh...

I just bought a much better faucet on line for $65.00, and I am going to install it myself for free.

They would not give a price quote on the phone, only $119 to show up and that would be deducted from cost of work. My sink was leaking so I said ok because he was able to get to my home very quickly. He tightened the sink shutoff which stopped the leak in seconds by turning it off, then he tried to get me to replace it and the faucet. Then because he was here I asked him to look the tub since it drained a little slow starting mid-shower. OMG he worked on it for a long time and made it 10times worse! He left with the tub full of BLACK gunks and water, the overflow and drain covers were not replaced, just left on the bottom of the tub barely visible through the funk!   I called the company they offered no resolution or solution except to give them another $4,000 to replace the pipe.  Now I can't use the sink or tub!!!!

I had a great experience with D&F Plumbing and Joe! The snow storm had caused a burst pipe, so in addition to no power, I'd had to turn the water off. D&F were open early and very responsive throughout the day. Joe was the plumber that came to the house for the assessment and the remediation. He was professional, following all safety, cleanliness, and covid standards; in addition to being friendly and helpful!  I would absolutely recommend D&F for your plumbing needs!

D&F saved the day, week, year, and life of our house. They sent out their (or maybe just my) main man, Joe Hammers and he crushed it. Very personable, knowledgeable, and professional. We had a smell... we couldn't pinpoint, as it came and went, but it started in the basement and then moved up to the first floor. I was convinced in my unprofessional opinion that it had to be coming from the foundation since the stench started in the basement but after evaluating the situation he highly suggested we open a wall up on the main floor... I fought it a bit as again, I was convinced that it was in the basement... Mr. Hammers was correct! The cause: a Grand Canyon crack in the vent pipe starting at the main floor. The waste gas was getting trapped in the wall and then venting down into the basement. What a pro!  Saved us a ton of money from having to do a smoke test or tear up the foundation.  I highly recommend D&F and their master plumber, Mr. Joe Hammers!  What a badarse.

Shady!  Their name says it all they are a D and an F in my book!  They only interested in collecting a dispatch fee. This high pressure tactic is very telling. If your first conversation is about the money and not the service when you are a service company then in my book you clearly lack capability an or ability. When I asked whether their Journeymen plumbers had access to a Master plumber who could sign-off on small ticket permits or obtain an over the counter permit same day I was met with deflection and distraction. Said another way con artist tactics. Several times the operator steered the conversation back to  a request to collect $119.

If the sale is a hard sale and high pressure - run! The only reason to employ these tactics is to collect before service is performed because you already know you are a D and and F!

They came and assessed what the issue was with the toilet that would barely fill and then at our request checked our second toilet fill valve and gave us his recommendations. He then replaced the valves on both toilets and cleaned up the areas. He made another recommendation which we told him we would consider in the future since it was not needed at this time. Very professional.

Do not use D&F! I have a water line valve that I cannot turn to shut off with my tools. A D&F technician showed up with an iPad in hand. He looked at the valve, said that nothing can be done, charged me $119.00 and left. He did not even try to see if he can shut the valve off valve with his tools! Total duration of the visit - less than 5 minutes. Don't waste your money with D&F!

Someone from D&F reached out to me recently regarding this review. It seems like they are taking concerns around their pricing model seriously and looking to make changes. If they do make changes so that they are more upfront and reasonable with their pricing (i.e. the dishwasher install should have been half, at most, of what I was charged) then I would hire them again in the future if needed.

My HOA, CMI, recommends D & F Plumbing as a contractor therefore we called them when we noticed water damage on our floor.

They returned our call quickly and notified us of their $99 dispatch fee that will go towards our bill if we were to finish whatever work needed to be done with them

After Stephen arrived and ruled out the obvious answers (leaking washer and dryer, leaking pipe from the shower), he wanted to do further investigating which included opening our wall. We agreed that was necessary and he proceeded. After spending 1.5 hours at our home, he wrote a bill for $395. Their website tells a story of up front pricing, but this is not the case. It took several phone calls and conversations with Randy to get reimbursed for the charge that was never discussed. He went on to explain that Stephen is a trustworthy, older man who does the job right. I suppose that means because I'm a young woman, I must be giving false information?

Randy credited my account for the overage and told me, the company (D & F) is done with us and don't call for future servicing.

Something to note, they work with a lot of the CMI run properties in the area and generally (according to Stephen and Randy) if they open a wall, CMI foots the bill. I wonder how many bills go directly to CMI overcharged without their knowledge. Our HOA fees goes up, D & F gets more money, no questions asked. Sounds ideal for one of the parties in this situation.

I wish that I had read the reviews before calling. They totally scammed me by claiming that there was a weekend set charge of $200 for even showing up. I thought that was going to apply somehow to the work done. NOPE. On top of that, they charge excessive fees for performing all work on the weekend so they charged an additional $550 to snake a drain which took all of 30 minutes. But because I had already spent $200, I didn't want to start all over again just having paid them $200 for showing up - plus, I needed the work done immediately because I had guests. So $750 total. UNBELIEVABLE. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Our radiant heating was causing us to not have hot water or very much water pressure, called d&f plumbing because it was recommended by my cousin, to keep the story short I will say that initially we had some issues with the first 3 d&f plumbers where they either didn't fully correct the problem or had various other issues like leaving for hours at a time. Usually this would make a reviewer downgrade the stars but the final plumber that we got was Phil who is amazing, took the time to explain everything, was extremely meticulous and went out of his way to make sure we were both happy and had hot water. He literally earned every single star back by himself and I cannot recommend him enough. I will definitely be doing business with d&f plumbing, at least while I know that Phil is there.

Do not hire this company!  I needed a garbage disposal replaced.  The charge was $861.55.  I called around-the most it should have cost is$300.
After a week of calling the company to settle the dispute, I stopped payment on credit card, filed a better business complaint, and am now writing this review.  The company wouldn't talk to me, maybe talking to the authorities will get the dispute settled.

Sandi Warren and the team at D&F Plumbing are nothing short of phenomenal!

I recently moved my business and found that one of our sinks wouldn't drain, upon further investigation, it appeared that during a remodel there had been drywall pieces, gravel and even glass put in the garbage disposal!

One call, and one of her super-efficient team members got out here, took a look and had the whole problem solved, part replaced, and was done before I even realized what had happened. It was like a guardian angel of plumbing was sent down to solve our problems.

I will NEVER hire anyone else beside D&F Plumbing for as long as I am in business.

Thanks again!

Jesse at D & F Plumbing performed miracles.  Our Victorian plumbing had issues that had not been addressed in over twenty years, mainly because most plumbers do not have the experience to deal with such ancient pipes and fixtures.   Other plumbers had come and looked at our problems, and then after they had collected their assessment fee, I never heard from them again  Thank you Jesse!  And special thanks as well to Jenny, one of D & F's office support staff.  She made certain that scheduling, lists of needed parts, and communication all occurred in a timely manner.

A service call was made to my rental. I was contacted by the tech. the hot water valve was stripped out and had to be replaced i was quoted 1000.00 for this repair. At that price I had to look for other avenues. I was stranded out of town due to the covid 19 for 5 more days, so I declined the outrageous price quoted. Then  the tech fiddled with the valve and got it to work he claimed. At that rate for repair I opted to repair it when I returned. A simple valve replacement.  The next time the tenant went to use the shower the same situation was no different then before the tech arrived. But I was charged 119.00 service call. So I called a friend he went over shut off the water pulled the valve went to aces got another 20.00 valve and had it fixed in less than an hour. that was a 119.00 education about using D&F . I wont tell you what I think the D&F stand for. my recommendation is be educated before you call them. I even told the tech my family business growing up was my dad did plumbing and HVAC.

Wish I had read these reviews prior to hiring this company. D&F does not listen to its customers, they don't finish their work and they are not honest. I was not surprised to hear D&F changed hands recently, as I have used them in years past with no problems.

I hired them to find the source of a water leak. They were happy to get started  but the project is still dragging out well over a month. Dug everything up then left my whole front yard torn open saying they would come and then not show up for a week at a time.  While I wasted days at a time waiting at home.

The work they did is not complete still!!! Their work has not passed inspection. The inspector has been here three times. One time the pipes were not low enough by 7 inches and the inspector said they would freeze in the winter. Ugh. Their work still won't pass inspection.  I'm worried about it. Now they are harassing me for the final payment.

They made a huge mess of my yard and have not cleaned up. So much mud all over my front porch, walkway, sidewalks and street. They put torn up sod on top of other plants and killed them. Also why did it take over a month to diagnose a leaky toilet? Oh I know... because you came up with a $7,000 reason first. (That is still not done)

I asked three times to check the upstairs toilet but since they were too busy ripping up my basement wall and yard out to the street they would not check it. It was leaking the whole time. I should also mention that they were not honest about pricing. Saying one price then changing it with out checking in or properly communicating with me.  Also they are threatening to report to credit card company. So many yelpers on here with similar complaints maybe everyone should call the State and complain?

I have owned many houses and hired many plumbers in the last 40 years but I have never had an experience like this. This company does not listen. (I need to point out One of the plumbers they sent was wonderful, Ozzy. )

The managers and owners are so unprofessional, unethical and dishonest. I experienced poor communication, dishonest pricing, and messy unfinished work.  I feel completely ripped off and I regret ever working with D&F plumbing. Huge disappointment and a huge disaster. Just make it right D&F this is no way to do business.

WORST COMPANY EVER! After multiple calls and working into thousands of dollars for a toilet repair only to find the toilet isn't fixable. I had been told there would be a discount but only received a $1200 bill. I requested an itemized invoice for multiple reasons; verify parts ( ~$200), to show the discount applied, for HOA needs (condo), homeowners insurance and as a legal requirement to disclose to future buyers. Simple request. Instead, after 2 months of trying to get a reply, their owner was horribly rude and refused to acknowledge my request. Here is an example of what kind of response you will get with this company:

Randy said he would check to make sure you were given the discounted rates we give CMI.. and you were.  Scott did tell you we would not charge for Matt's overtime call, which should not have been done, but was, so you were not charged for Matt's time.  We definitely had a laborer during the job, which encompasses any parts delivery and/or clean up etc.  This invoice is correct, however in order to get this resolved I will offer you another $200.00 off of this invoice which means:  Any of the $100.00 profit I MAY have made off this job is gone and I am paying OUT OF MY POCKET the balance to cover any labor charges!! .  You have already received more discounts than should have been given and basically at this point I am paying to work for you, which is not how business works!!  This is the last adjustment I am willing to make  and will be good only for the next 24 hours.  I feel this is beyond reasonable and would look to conclude our business together once this is paid in full.  Thank you.
Sandi

For the record, the initial quote for toilet repair was for $1200. No adjustment had been made prior. I never asked for an adjustment. I asked for an itemized invoice.

We would not hire. D&F is your classic get-the-money and run, high-pressure plumbing outfit.

We wouldn't hire D&F again even if we were standing ankle-deep in sewage, at midnight, on a Saturday night, and they were the only plumber available.

As we write this, D&F Plumbing has 43 reviews, and 14 of them are ONE star. That's a 33 percent FAIL rate.

PS: Remember to change the Sort Order of reviews to newest first or lowest rated. The default Yelp Sort always pushes some positive reviews to the top. :-)

The estimate we got for a simple drain pipe replacement job was not only astronomical but criminal and insulting, mind you the house owner was not on site personally, this was all conducted over the phone and the owner is a she.  He immediately claimed this would be a full day's job, maybe even day and a half when the competition did it in two hours, his estimate was $$2800 when the competition did it for half that price, he exaggerated the extent of the job and embellished protecting and sealing all the surfaces with plastic and blah, blah, blah. There was no need for that kind of drama unless you need to justify the enormous kind of money you asking for.  The reason he went through this dishonest sales pitch? that is what D&F trained him to do! SHAME ON YOU! D&F Plumbing, absolute shame on you!  I am resisting reporting you to the BBB. It is this dishonesty that creates the kind of skepticism and mistrust and reputation your industry carries. I will post this in every social media outlet available to me and I have the invoices from both companies to prove this insolent attack on the consumer. I say it again, SHAME ON YOU!

Aaabsured pricing on the thing I needed fixed after they rifled through my whole house looking at stuff I had no interest in them fixing.  I just want a quote for the work I needed done and instead got a bill for looking at everything except what I needed and then showing me an estimate so absurd it was not going to happen.  I feel very riped off and cannot recommend them.

I called to set up an appointment to have 3 plumbing items addressed and clearly let the person scheduling know.  interestingly they ask for a credit card for their files.
I was told if i took an early morning appointment I could get a specific time rather than the 12-4pm slot.  I scheduled for 7am.
Technician showed up at 7:14am.  Look at the 3 items and wasn't either prepared to perform the work right then (needed to get supplies so a 1 hour job now would take 2-3) and the other he couldn't or wouldn't address.
In the end he replaced a $15 part in the toilet for $325.  This cost comes to about $10/minute!  The $325 was only achieved by receiving a couple of discounts, otherwise it would have cost close to $400.

I manage over 20 commercial buildings in the Portland area.  I am very familiar with plumbing repairs and vendors.  I believe in hiring professional help to solve these issues.

I do not recommend this company!  I was left feeling gouged!

Do not use these plumbers, especially if you are trying to file an insurance claim. The first time I used them, to replace a faucet, the technician dropped one of his tools and knicked my bathtub. Instead of saying he will fix it, he told me to go to the hardware store to fix it myself.

I then had a leak and called them again, letting the technician know when he entered my house that I needed to figure out what was wrong so my home warranty service could cover it. The technician did an exam, and couldn't figure out what went wrong, although he said he suspected that it might be the dishwasher. He tried running it and there was no leakage. When I asked him to call my home warranty company to give a diagnosis, he refused.

Although I had told him before he did anything that I needed the information for my home warranty company, he didn't let me know that this company has a policy of not interacting with home warranty insurance companies. If he had let me know ahead of time, I would have found another plumber.

He charged me $299 for the diagnostics, and wrote a short note in long hand on a piece of paper, and signed it Bob the Plumber. Something totally unusable for my insurance company.

I called the company, upset that I was charged so much for no help at all. I would gladly pay the for the inspection ($119). They doubled down and continue to repeat that they don't work with home warranty companies.

The quality of their work is not good, and their customer service is worse.

Worst service and pricing. Having had a bad experience with another plumbing company before ($500 extra to talk to a third party tech support), i made sure to be as a specific as possible for this job. I told D&F that it was a check valve replacement on a unit in the attic. I followed up by email with a photo and description of the unit (model number, serial number and part number). D&F was going to add that info into their job description system for the plumber to review. Fee was $119 for inspection and quote and if you hire them the same day then the $119 was part of the cost of repair. I agreed. Plumber (Chris) shows up and was unaware of what the job was (1st red flag). We walked up and getting ready to go into the attic, Chris said that he needed $500 to walk into the attic per the policy. I was flabbergasted. $500 to walk into an attic. He refused to go up unless i paid another $500. On top of that, any work to be performed was over and above the $500 so the $500 was just to walk up into the attic and nothing more. So now my inspection and quote was in essence $619. He left as i refused to pay that. Called D&F back and a very rude person said that i had an agreement and would not refund the $119. My agreement was for $119 for an inspection and quote. Not $619 for inspection and quote. Granted the appointment confirmation text did say that plumber Chris finds creative solutions for customer, not that you will like the creative solution.  Fyi, i did locate another company who came in, and in fact did have a true creative solution, and was in and out in about 1 1/2. I have not reviewed anyone ever but for these two plumber companies in the last two weeks.

Not a recommendation! Trying to give business to our neighborhood plumbing co. Over inflated high non competitive pricing for simple work! Plumber had no knowledge of determination seeing a simple pex line leak, $120 out the door and $500 to repair less than a foot of easy reach exposed basement pex. Not to mention left our back gate open knowing we had a dog. We sent him on his way swiftly. Recommending you do the same!

I don't even know of another plumbing company. D&F is the one hired, regardless of Private or HOA. They are on time. They said 8am, no joke! Boom! In the driveway exactly at 8:00! Unheard of! He replaced a gas hot water heater in 3 hours, that was with getting it delivered to the house, for $1,100. Pricey? Yes, but house maintenance is all spendy. I would hire them again and again.

We feel robbed.  This company charges $597 to re-seat a toilet. No wonder they won't give you a quote over the phone.  I could have sent the plumber on his way after he told us the price, but then there's a $119 charge for him showing up.  (On a sidenote, the plumber they sent was a cool guy. He was personable and efficient.)

Called D&F because our culligan under sink water purifier was leaking. D&F installed this 5 years ago and it took about 30 minutes then. So the plumber comes out,  looks under sink at it, goes to his car for about 15 minutes and comes back says you need a new one and it will cost $780. to replace !!!!! We said no, and then asked if it was okay to use now. He said no problem you can use the faucet but not the water filter. He leaves and we discover NO we can't use the cold water on our faucet cause if we turn on the cold water under the sink the leak starts all over again. He was here 30 minutes total, we paid him 120$ and we have the exact same situation when he walked in the door but less money in the bank. They suck!!!!!! Do not recommend

2nd update:
I appreciate the comment from the company below that they understood the way their phone operator speaks to customers should be addressed. I've added a star since I received the refund, and hope they do follow up!

Update: Received my refund, the accountant called me and was much more helpful than the phone operator who was very rude.

------

I called to ask for a bid for a job, and they sent someone out who never used their own equipment (watched another plumbers video on my phone of a sewer scope).
Afterwards I was given a quote thousands above other companies, and then noticed a charge of $119 on my credit card. They didn't do any work or use any tools!
I emailed them and called several times to figure out why I was charged, and the person on the phone was able to listen to my initial call and confirm that I should not have been charged at all. (They didn't disclose charges on initial phone call)
However even after first call where I was assured the accounting team would be in touch to get it fixed, no one followed up with me. If someone fixes this issue I will amend my review.

Place is an absolute scam, called them and told them I needed my tankless water heater serviced. I was very exact in saying what I needed, my water heater is working fine but was just wanting the recommended service for it. They told me he has to come out to look at it for $120 but that fee would be included in service of it. Plumber comes to my house and tells me right away that it would be $680 to descale (which is the maintenance). He agreed that price is ridiculous and that I can easily do the decaling service myself. He felt bad that he had to charge me $120 for doing absolutely nothing and that I was very exact in what I needed to be done and that they should have told me over the phone what the price would be before sending someone over. They clearly knew my costs, this is a just how they scam customers out of $120. Avoid this company like the plague. I should have listened to other terrible reviews about this place on here.

We had a bathroom plumbing situation on a weekend and D &F came out identified the problem and got everything going to fix. I am so appreciative that they came on the weekend and did an excellent job of ordering the parts and completed everything before the date they estimated the parts coming in.

We've used D & F plumbing twice now and both times Jesse has helped us. He is very professional, thorough and answered all of our new homeowner questions. The first visit was to unclog some drains but he also helped us understand what plumbing updates we needed to do to the house. The second visit was to fix bad pipes in the kitchen. He was timely, efficient and very pleasant to talk to. We have very much enjoyed our experience with D&F Plumbing and would highly recommend to anyone!

I hired D&F Plumbing for the 4th or 5th time to come replace the FLUSH VALVES on two toilets based on an inspection report from the sale of our home.
The first plumber arrived, appeared to do the work, charged me $499.99 (YES YOU READ THAT RIGHT) and left.
Since we were scheduled a reinspection for repairs the next day, I didnt haggle on price and unfortunately, I didnt check the guy's work. (He was there for over an hour and it was a FLUSH VALVE REPLACEMENT.....EASY Stuff).

Upon reinspection I embarrassingly found that he didnt do ANY WORK. The valves were not replaced.

I called D & F and they apologized stating that they had fired that plumber and they would send a new one.

a new plumber came out the next day, kinda laughed about the situation and the fired guy but went back, and again, worked for about an hour and left.
he ALSO Charged me $499.00 and I didnt argue figuring D & F would refund the original work.

Inspector returned and the FLUSH VALVES were STILL not replaced. The plumber replaced the FILL VALVES (Not the same thing).

I called D & F and they said they'd be happy to replace the flush valves but it would be a new project and a new quote.

They also told me that they would NOT Refund EITHER of the Original Charges.

I put a stop on the visa card for BOTH sets of work, and now their service Manager is Taking me to collections

I have called 3 times now and although the receptionist tells me that he is in, when she transfers me, he never answers and so far has NOT returned my calls.

I never had any issues with this company in the past, I literally asked myself if they are under new ownership and apparently, based on other reviews here, they are.....

Who knew?

To be fair, I've had two experiences with D & F and found them to be nice guys who did well at what was asked.  Unfortunately, I also felt very gouged, and it was the second experience that prompted me to write a review.

My kitchen sink got clogged and although I snaked it like crazy and even resorted to harsh chemicals (which I never do otherwise), I couldn't get it open.  I called D & F because they're the neighborhood plumber as well as several others.  Only D & F was available and they did show up right away.  Unfortunately, I chatted with the guy who came to tell him what I'd experienced, but noticed he was looking at other pipes in my basement totally unrelated to my kitchen drain.  I'm no pro, but I certainly know enough that my bathtub and bathroom sink on the west side of my house aren't related to the kitchen sink which is at the SE corner of my house.  I mentioned to the guy that some day I'd like to replace the supply lines in my house and we chatted a little about that.

When done, he said let me go write up your bill and then I can show you a couple of issues I noticed with your existing plumbing.  Fair enough and certainly appreciated at that!  Unfortunately, I followed him outside, watched him fumble around in his truck for several minutes (never found the pipe he was hoping to show me), and then sit in the front of his truck to write up the bill.  They were charging $35 per 15 minutes, and when he handed me the bill ($238 for what he claims was 50 minutes of work), I felt like I was getting robbed.  He said if it had taken a few minutes less, I could have taken that last $35 off.  I questioned him, noticing that he was charging me as much as he possibly could (having chatted about my bathroom, a prospective other job, and then charged me for it!)  He said that I could take it up with the owner, so I called and tried to diplomatically state my case.  I was told the owner would call me back, but not a word since.  I just feel like others should know that these guys don't aspire to charge others as they would hope someone would charge them.  Boo and shame!  I noticed that the other review touted how quickly they came - what no other jobs to do?  Every other plumber I called that day was busy!

I still invite the owner to contact me at 503-679-9796.  I am the kind who loves finding a great serviceperson and telling everyone I know.  Unfortunately, it doesn't look like D & F will be getting much support out of me.

Do not use these guys!! Complete rip off artists!!
I wish I could give negative stars. I have a small townhouse rental in Portland, my tenant called them to search for a potential water leak and their solution was a $4900+ bill to swap out 3 toilets which surely wouldn't have solved the problem anyway. I thought their quote was a joke, but it was real!! This place should be not only be out of business they should be investigated by the DOJ

I needed someone to come out and replace the vacuum breaker on my hand held shower.  It was a simple job, but I am NOT a plumber.  The plumber arrived on time, knew what to do, and did it.  A plus for bringing his own shoe covers!  Unfortunate that $198 is the lowest charge for a house call, but the job is done!

Our experience with them has been awful. First, we brought them out to look at our water heater. They charged us $99 to quote us almost $1800 just for a replacement. We called George Morlan, and got a replacement -- installed -- for $800. But suddenly, we found that our main water line was leaking, and still going by a friend's recommendation for D & F, we called them out to fix it. Again, we paid $99 for an estimate of almost $2300 to find and repair a copper pipe, which would entail them hiring a leak detector and then doing the repair.

I called a leak detector and was quoted $325 flat rate, and talked to another plumber who would do the repair for $200, plus time digging it up, with a max total of $600.

I'm not sure whether or not they just have outlandish overhead, or whether they were trying to take advantage of my wife since she was the one meeting with them, but their prices were consistently more than double what we could find elsewhere.

So we paid $200 to get two outrageous quotes and zero actual service.

To make matters worse, we paid them both times by check, they cashed the checks, then sent us a bill for the first $99 as if we never paid them.

My advice is to run like hell from these people.

Do NOT trust their costs or work. Horrible customer service. I was told different prices from each employee and lied to about employees being on lunch for clarification on pricing. Their work is priced well above similar plumbing companies to begin with and they spend more time convincing you that they are the best in the business since 1927 than being honest with their customers and training employees. The Polite technician was the only reason I didn't leave the situation in tears. Call Apollo or Clog Pros next time

We had a suspected simple kitchen sink back up. Called out D & F. The technician was on time and professional. He heard our concern and pulled up his D & F issued tablet. He said it would cost $800 to fix. We said WHAT??? He sheepishly looked down and apologized for the outlandish quote and said there was nothing he could do and agreed it was crazy. We sent him on his way and called Roto-Rooter. Roto-Rooter came the same day and fixed the issue for $250.

D & F will screw you over. We recommend you avoid them at all costs.

We had a major water leak which was costing 1000's a month in waste water. D&F came quickly once we discovered the leak was ours to deal with. They quickly assessed the likely position of the leak dug down and found it. Repaired within an hour of finding the leak (water was shut off by now). Back filled and tidied up by 8pm. Next day finished off the concrete surface. Great job, Phil, Grant & Will. Thank you.

I needed a complete repipe of a duplex I own. After calling repipe specialists and getting a quote of $16464 I called D & F Plumbing and asked for a quote. $119 Visit fee does not include any work. So if you call them its clogged then they will come out to SEE tell you yes, its clogged and charge you $119. After they charge $119, they will quote you actual fix cost top of it. If you don't believe me, call them and ask them directly. Look other reviews on Yelp.

THIS COMPANY IS SCAMMING PEOPLE- DO NOT USE!!!

I was given a quote for $740 for cleaning out two drains, which I thought was absurdly high but went ahead and did the work because the company has a NON-REFUNDABLE $119 fee for just coming out to look and give you a quote. Because I thought I would have to pay the $119 again at a later date, I figured I needed to do it because I had no way to fix it myself. I later got quotes from other companies (who didn't need to see the work to give me a quote) for both repairs at $285. The repair person was very friendly, but also  very manipulative (and very likely straight up lying) when I asked about why the pricing was so different than what I had expected: things have changed a lot in the last few years due to Covid and supply chain issues... etc. I will NEVER use this company again, and I will be filing a complaint with the CCB.

Tweeker alert!! Due to continued harassment, and your attempt to place a lien on my property I will be filing a complaint with the CCB, and a lawsuit for your frivolous claims and ridiculous bid you tried to force me to sign. I will never sign a contract without a 2nd opinion, and the 2nd opinion fixed the issue without cutting my cast iron bathroom in 1/2 to remove it, and not replace it with anything, saying another plumber would have to come do that.

You'll be receiving your notice of complaint soon, after speaking with the CCB, it's just standard business for you. Your next contact from me will be through the CCB and my attorney.

Sure, it will cost more than the $224 you're trying to extort  out of me for your truck fee, but you shouldn't be ripping people off, and now I'm coming after you legally.

D & F installed a shower conversion kit for my clawfoot tub in a rental unit for me.  This was organized by my crappy property manager as I live overseas.  The year lease was up for the tenants, so I did a walk through when I was in town to see what I paid for.  The shower had a horrible whining sound so I called the D & F and they said sorry, it's been over a year since the installation.  1 year barely given it was a year lease and I walked through the property shortly after.  They would send someone out to look at the pipes and it was going to be the same tech.  I asked, why would I want the same guy that installed it incorrectly to come back out?  He didn't do it right the first time but he will this time?  Looks like I am not the only one who thinks this company is shotty if you follow the other reviews.  Good Luck.

I called on a Friday morning of the first week in our move to a home in Portland and spoke with Brad who was understanding, kind and engaging. He set us up with service that day.   James came to the house on time, and listened compassionately to our concerns of the plumbing backing up in our lower toilet and shower since we had just moved in.  He is amazing, very personable, and, went over and above to look into the problem but also looked through all of the pipes to the outside.   He explained what he saw as our main concern and gave us great advice as to how to move forward with really old, fragile sewer pipe system.   He spent four hours scoping the pipes and explaining to my husband and I how to care for, look for problems, and care for things. He is so friendly and relieved a lot of my anxiety.  We will definitely call them in the future but hope not to have to for some time.

We had an outdoor faucet leaking behind the siding when we turned it on. with summer coming and unsure of what/where the leak was. We called and got on the schedule right away. they sent out Warren. Not only was I pleasantly surprised that he arrived on time but he did a good job of explaining what the possibilities were and the approach to fix the problem. He was also up front that he may need to open up the interior wall to diagnose the source of the problem and or fix it. that's exactly what happened. In the end, it was not a DIY project for me and I'm happy with the results.

This freaking thing would not come apart and it's old pvvc pipe in the wall. Leaking all over so I tried to replace it. I've done these valves in the bathrooms easy peasy. Completely stuck and increased leaking despite the house water being off. I didn't want to make a bigger job by accidentally breaking the pipe in the wall.  Called my regular plumber but they had noone until october. Called D&F and they got someone out here same day!!!! The person that came out took the time to prevent and further pipe damage and got it done quick. The price was even less than I expected!

Booked them strictly because they were the only plumbers available on the day that I needed work done. Despite communicating a specific plumbing need (install new shower valve, remove the old pipes coming out of the opposite wall), the plumber, Joe, took me through an hour long hard sell to repipe my whole house. I had to tell him no 4 times with increasingly insurmountable reasons for not doing that before he begrudgingly started to work on the task at hand. Prices are by the job, and he told me what it'd be for this one, and I signed an agreement to that end. Mid-way through the job, I checked in to see how it was going and noticed he hadn't touched the second wall I mentioned needing the old pipes removed, so I reminded him. He said he'd get to it and he didn't forget. About an hour later, I saw him packing up to leave and the old pipes were still there and he explained, exasperated and annoyed, that 1) the head office was badgering him to leave to start a different job, 2) he already went above and beyond for me by repiping something under the house that wasn't included in the bid originally (first I'd heard of it), and 3) that the work on the second wall wasn't part of the bid and would be an additional $500 cause it involves opening a new wall. I told him I absolutely needed it done, so while I was upset about the sudden $500 charge when the work was clearly communicated from the beginning, if I had to pay it so be it. He then told me the people who would be doing my tile work on the walls would remove it for me, again trying to get out of doing that work. That didn't fly though, as I was the one doing the tile, and I don't have the tools necessary to remove galvanized piping which is the whole reason I hired them in the first place. After all this, he unpacked some of his tools and got the pipes removed out of the wall, resulting in a half-hour of work for a 4x4 hole in the wall totaling $500 additional. Perhaps if he hadn't have spent the first hour trying to squeeze more money out of me, he would have had time to do the job properly. There was a lot more that he tried to up-sell me on throughout, and I fully believe I was taken advantage of due to being a single woman AND being a homeowner on a time crunch. Horribly unprofessional, uncomfortable, and tone deaf enough to still send me the estimates for the various things they quoted me on in the future.

My shut off valve in my guest bathroom started to leak so I called D & F Pluimbing.  I was told that they could have someone come out the next day but if they had a cancellation they may come out the same day.  I did get a call that they were sending someone out.  That is the only positive thing I can say about this company.  Randy came out assessed the problem.  I discussed some other items and it's cost and made an appointment for that Friday.   I asked what time on Friday and he said  11 AM

At 11:25 I called the office to confirm and was wold he was finishing a job and should be there shortly.   Over an hour latter I again called the office upset as I had another appointemnt I would be late for.  I cancelled the job and demanded my money which came to half the job be refuned to me.

10 minutes later I get a call from the Randy.  I informed him I cancellled the job.  He tell me there is a two hour window but when I asked him what time he would arrive he said 11 AM  and no mention of a 2 hour window.   When I reviewed the job order and signed for the work and it's cost never was I given or sent an emailed for what the job would cost. as a reciept

The following week I get a call from accountung asking if it's okay to charge the balance to my credit card.  Obviously they don't communicate well with thier own staff.

Very disappointed with this company

We had a clog back in November. It was a pretty basic fix, we opted to have a scope done, for a whooping $900+...well, the plumber forgot to replace a rubber gasket when reattaching the pipes to the overflow sink, so when we had a bunch of rain the other night, instead of overflowing into the overflow sink, we had poop water flooding our basement. Seems like a pretty basic thing for a licensed and bonded plumber to remember to do, but I understand everyone makes mistakes. When I called to let them know what happened and request full or partial refund or even just to talk to someone, I was told a manager will call you shortly. No one called. I called back and was told the same thing. No one called. I called again today and was told they can pass the message on, but that is all they can do. So, not only did we receive a very expensive and poorly done service, but they do not seem to care about their customers, their reputation, or providing quality professional work. Do NOT use them!

How out of touch is this business? One person after the other reports the same thing: outrageous prices/estimates, poor quality work, etc. And the response to each one is customer service nonsense about striving to provide a great experience. How about D&F plumbing takes some responsibility for the way they've been gouging the public and taking advantage of people when their plumbing doesn't work? Own up to what you've been doing and make amends for it. It's not one person who is complaining. Just imagine all the other people out there whose hard-earned money you've taken for shoddy work that should have been performed for half the price. I recommend everyone complain to the CCB and demand accountability from this business.

WARNING - RIP OFF!!! DO NOT USE!!!

I called D&F plumbing to get a broken sink drain plug and toilet bowl that wasn't filling properly fixed in my condo. I explained in detail the issues and what fixtures were used and they said they were very familiar with my building.

The plumber that showed up said he had never been in the building, looked at the issues for 5 minutes, and recommended replacing everything for over $1,000 which I declined. This felt very predatory and like they were trying to price gouge me.

I immediately called another plumber and they came out immediately and fixed the drain plug and toilet in less than an hour for $170.

D&F then charged my credit card for their service fee of $119, which I disputed with my credit card company and won since no services were performed.

Fast forward 4 months later and D&F's AR team has been harassing me stating that they are going to send me to collections if I don't pay. Needless to say I don't want to ruin my credit so after being harassed and pressured I went ahead and called to pay.

After giving the AR person my credit card number I was told that I was also going to be charged a penalty for making a dispute with my credit card company. Extremely predatory.

I have submitted a complaint to the BBB and will update this review based on the outcome to protect people considering using D&F in the future.

An unfortunate mistake.  Our kitchen sink was leaking  We tried a few plumbers who were unavailable and then D and F, which was.  The plumber painted a fairly grim picture of how a considerable amount of piping--not just that under the sink--had to be replaced along with the faucet.    He said it would cost $1398. Since this appeared to be
a big job, we agreed.

Starting from the time the plumber was dispatched, and including the time he had to go somewhere for a part that he should have had in the truck and the time he spent in his van in our driveway after the job was done, it was five hours.  The faucet retails for $211. Some plastic piping and related incidentals--let's very generously say $100.
That indicates a labor cost of $217 an hour for five hours (of which he actually worked 3.5 in the house.)

When I called D and F to tell them our electrical service near the sink was still off and the water pressure was lower than it had been,  I also asked why it cost so much.
I was consdescendingly told that we are not a time and materials shop. Period.

D and F has a pricing model that can really harm people who don't know much about plumbing (and I'm at the head of the line).  They can tell you that it is a big project, charge you a big amount, then do relatively little work with few parts and refuse to tell you how they arrived at the price.

I JUST wrote a $9850 check to this outfit. What did that buy?
They said a pipe offset was causing the sewer line to backup. A 9 foot hole in the ground was dug up exposing 8' of pipe. Then they found the situation more serious. And presented a $30,000 contract to run about 30 ft of new pipe.
NO WAY!!
I happily fired their rear. Found a new company that saved me more than $10,000 over their bid.  The $9850 invoice was for pretty much for digging a big hole!
D is not for drip. It's for devour.  And F is not for faucet. It's for funds. They will devour your funds if you let them.

Be Careful!

Outrageous prices.  This company charged $750 to replace a faulty cylinder in my bathroom shower.  They did not come with the part even though I told them it was a Delta monitor faucet.  They said their trucks come fully equipped which is not true. So the technician had to go to Home Depot to buy a $60 part and then doubled the price.  They do not charge by the hour, they charge by the job.  So a job that AT MOST should have been under $400 cost twice as much.  DO NOT HIRE this outfit.  They are out to gouge you.  They don't care about the customer.  I will never use them again.

Highly recommend choosing a different company to do business with for several reasons. To start, they will misinform you of what they will charge you. I called for a simple sewer scope to be done to cost $119, which is about average or a little high for the industry. We agreed on a date and window if time when a plumber would arrive. The day of service to be done they called and canceled and said they were all booked up. Rescheduled for the next day during a 2-hour block from 10-12pm. The company made no effort to call me to let me know they would be extremely late. I called them at 1130am was told plumber was finishing up a job and should be on his way shortly and said he should have called me by now. Advised of no calls made. This plumber did not arrive until after 1pm...again not even a phone call by the office or the plumber. The plumber walks up and has no idea why he is there. I advised him of the requested service and attempt to charge me over $450 for a job that would take about 15 minutes. I advised him that is certainly not what the office told me the charge would be. I called the office back and they tell me the charge is just to have a plumber drive to your house...nothing else. This company is clearly trying to take advantage of uninformed people. I scheduled this service with another company for $99. ******I HOPE 1000'S OF PEOPLE READ THIS*******PLEASE TAKE YOUR BUSINESS SOMEWHERE ELSE****YOU WILL BE TREATED MUCH BETTER**************THIS REVIEW ALONE WILL COST THIS COMPANY MORE THAN $119.

Great firm, competent plumbers and friendly and can do attitude.  Our guy did an amazing job correcting our kitchen sink plumbing which was a real mess and was seriously leaking.  They do great work, hire them if you need plumbing, you won't go wrong....

My kitchen faucet started leaking. I called D&F they could come over the next morning.  They wouldn't quote me an hourly price for repairs.  Said they charge $119 to diagnose the problem and wave the fee if they repair.  Man was on time.  I needed a new faucet.  He had one on the truck that worked.  He was at my home for an hour and a half and with the faucet with a value of 300, I was charged $1,051.45.  That's with the reduced price of $119.  That's over $700 in labor to replace a kitchen faucet.  Did I need it done?  Yes.  Did they save me time? Yes.  I knew there was something wrong with the pricing when they wouldn't quote me an hourly price on the phone.

Never again. Called to have a garbage disposal fixed. I explained the brand and type of disposal. I was told if they couldn't fix it they would have a replacement on the truck. The person who came had 10 years of experience, but had never seen my type of disposal.  He barely looked at the disposal so obviously didn't want to try to fix it.  He went to his truck and came back and said he couldn't find a replacement.  But  I found one it would be $600 to install it.  I also had bought a faucet that needed to be installed.  He said it would cost $600 to install the faucet.  I found a disposal and another plumber installed both for $150.   I spent a total $750.  D and F would have cost me $1800.    Never again.

I guess they don't understand.  Their response was about the guy who came to the house.  My complaint wasn't about him.  He was on time and nice.  But didn't seem to have any interest in trying to repair the garbage disposal. my main complaint was about the ridiculously absurd installation cost.   $1200+ was their charge and I found a great plumber who did the work for $150.

They run a bait and switch trick by stating the $119 inspection fee will be waived if you move forward with the technicians quote. They refuse to give any estimate for even a best case or worst case scenario for the job because they know they charge 4-10x the standard market cost and they want you in the hook for the 119.  I provided a thorough explanation with a video for the job and asked multiple times for an estimate of what the job would cost. When the technician arrives you learn just how outrageous the gouging will be. To install a dishwasher that required no special work it'd be more than $800.  The technician was friendly but knew this shady business practice happens all the time. He did nothing to inspect and started by saying it'd be $800 if I wanted to move forward knowing that no reasonable person would pay that and he wouldn't have to do anything. There's no reason that 800+ couldn't have been shared with me as an estimate prior to arriving and prior to agreeing to the inspection fee. The billing department doesn't listen to any reasonable request to waive the inspection fee and instead tells you they recorded you accepting the inspection fee. They claim they charge a fair market price and have been in business since 1927. While this might not be illegal (I'll be researching this later) as a business practice, it's clearly deceitful, dishonest, and the most unethical practice I've seen from any business.  I tried resolving this with them directly before going to a review like this but they're clearly prepared for customers they've ripped off with this trick in the past and refused to consider any resolution other than stealing $119 from me. Truly shameful.  If anyone has any other option then do that instead of using d&f plumbing. The yelp review Reply to this I'm sure will give them the opportunity to have the last word.

I had a problem with my kitchen sink backing up and D&F was, after I gave them a $150 non-refundable deposit, able to come out the next day. Steve was prompt, polite and personable. He was great. The amount they charged was not. It took him about 15 minutes to snake the plumbing and unclog my sink. The bill...$650!!  When he told me how much it was going to cost, there wasn't much I could do since they already got $150 upfront. I felt like my money was taken hostage. At $2,600/hour, next time I'll go buy my own snake.

Horrible experience, absolutely never use D & F plumbing! Never again will I use D & F plumbing and if I have friends or family ask for recommendations for plumbing I will make sure they know not to get D & F plumbing. They charged my card without my consent, they charged me for a pipe that the plumber stepped on while working on the job which I do not see why I am responsible for that employees' accident. Also there was another part broken they did not fix that our water back flow rep fixed that should have been fixed by the horrible group of D & F plumbing. They also told me it would take four days max to complete the job. It took four months to complete the job.

I feel compelled to add to my previous review after reading the complaints of others. First I want to add what it cost me to have everything fixed and the repairs they did not complete, fixed. $1100.00 not the additional $4000 they quoted. I've also since discovered that the anti-freeze spigots they installed on my property ALL LEAK more water than the hose puts out. I can't afford to have those fixed, including the one that is not even attached now to the house itself.  FYI these were not on the original estimate nor I did approve them and I never recd ANY CREDITS, apologies for the threats or a return call, email nothing...ever. These are photos from after they left. Still looks this way because I'm still paying the $16k loan for a re-pipe on a 3/2 house

Hired this company to do a simple job. Plumber was friendly. He could not complete the work because there was an unforeseen problem. All OK. However, the amount charged to me was, in my opinion, exorbitant, even after I got a price break under the circumstances.

There is no one more that I would recommend than Phil. From the moment we met Phil, he has gone above and beyond to make us feel supported, empowered, and educated throughout the entire process. My husband and I recently purchased a home and with that, we inherited some issues. It quickly became overwhelming for us and we decided to reach out for professional support. After meeting with another company, we decided we wanted to schedule with D & F after hearing positive feedback about their crew.  It felt like fate that we were assigned to Phil and WOW, we seriously could not have imagined a better person to have in our home doing these major repairs. For anyone... and I mean anyone... who is looking for plumbing work- I would go to the ends of the earth to recommend Phil (also known as Phillip) at D & F. I imagine that Phil will be our go-to plumber for the rest of the time we own a home, in particular- this one. Phil- we appreciate you so, so, so much. D & F- you have a GEM on your hands with this one.

When I called, I specifically asked the scheduler if the plumber could do the job on the spot if I accepted the estimate and they told me yes, absolutely. So I took the day off from work to meet him.  I was given an appointment window of 1-4PM and the plumber showed up at almost 4PM and said it was too late to do the job unless I wanted to pay overtime rates.  The bid was already shockingly, obscenely expensive so I did not want to pay overtime.  Now I have to take another day off from work to meet him again or else lose the $120 I had to pay for the estimate. D&F seems to value their own time more than their customer's time.  Not cool.  Call someone else.

i had a very good experience with D & F plumbing.  I called in the late afternoon and got an early appointment for the next day. The tech was here right on time and offered me three choices for our jammed up  kitchen disposal.  We went with the lowest cost option and he got the jam fixed in no time at all.  he could  have easily tried to sell me an entirely new disposal but the first option was much more reasonable.  He was careful and efficient.  He  carefully explained the bid and the final invoice.  This was a very satisfactory experience and I will not hesitate in calling them again.

Stay away! Predatory

I called D&F plumbing to clear a drain in my cafe. The technician (Randy Sosa) was professional and pleasant. After snaking the drain he informed me that there was a blockage in the line under the concrete slab in the basement. He suggested that we either cut the concrete or abandon the line and run a PVC drain diagonally down the back wall of the unfinished basement to the 4 pipe. The latter solution would be cheaper. The estimate for this work was $5342.00, he said it would take them a day to complete. I thought this was much too high for one day of labor and some PVC pipe. When I pushed back on the pricing he informed me he does not set the pricing, the office does. He also reminded me that the Cafe was inoperative without the drain working. He also mentioned that they offer financing!

I hired another plumbing company. They showed up at 8AM the following morning. Including a run to the supplier for parts, one man finished the job Mr Sosa quoted at $5342.00, by 11:30 and charged me $700.

To add insult to injury D&F plumbing charged me $799 to unsuccessfully snake my drain and write the estimate of repair!

Given how long this company has been in business I can't even imagine how many consumers have been grossly overcharged.

Will surprise charge you $119 to give an estimate (unless you happen to have read the yelp reviews beforehand, but if you did, you'll probably seek
plumbing assistance elsewhere). They will not give an estimate over the phone or even a range of what the price will cost. Then, when they get to your home and say you owe them $119 for the house call, they will quote you a price three times what the other bids were. You'll have to decide whether to apply the $119 to their overpriced plumbing job or lose the money and save with any of the other much lower bids.

$620 for 60 minute consult?!

called d&f to help me troubleshoot a frozen pipe. To their credit, the plumber showed up in less so than 4 hours while other companies couldn't make it out until the following week. After turning on/ off some faucets the technician found the problem but as he said nothing to do but wait it out.  He then charged me a $120 service charge and $499 exploration fee. Not sure what the legal definition is for price gouging but if this doesn't qualify I'm not sure what does. Do yourself a favor and check out smaller outfits (those that don't spend half their advertising budget online). You'll probably pay less and find the same or similar quality.

I needed a kitchen faucet swap out.  I bought a brand new Exact Replacement for the one that was no longer working well from Home Depot.  Had it available for the plumber when he arrive.  It took only 1 hour from the time he called me saying he was on his way till the time he was done and left.  And he charged me $569!!!!  Highway robbery!!  Sick to my stomach!!!

Stay away from this company.

I wanted to have a few things done in a new condo I moved in to. The employee that came to my condo was awful. I asked him to give me a quote on adjusting a valve, snaking a toilet, and installing a new sink faucet. He went to his vehicle, came back and said it would be $900.00. When I asked why it was so excessive he laughed and said it's plumbing and it costs a lot. I asked for a breakdown of the prices so I could understand the costs for such simple tasks and he said he didn't have one. I asked him how he came up with a quote, his response was I looked in the book (but obviously didn't write anything down). I ended up having him only snake the toilet and fix the valve to a tune of about $400.00. He was there all of 40 minutes (including 15 minutes writing up the quote).

Since the toilet was not fixed by snaking it I asked for a replacement quote. His solution to my constantly plugged toilet was to just learn to live with it as most people do and to use less toilet paper and to flush after going #2 before wiping. I insisted the toilet was defective and I wanted it replaced. He further suggested I crumple the toilet paper into smaller wads before flushing and proceeded to crumple some test wads to show me how I should do it. I told him I was not interested in handling and crumpling soiled toilet paper and insisted on a quote.

I couldn't believe this guy. Not only was he lazy and insulting. He was actively trying to take business away from his employer. I wonder if they know he tries to convince people not to get work done because of his laziness. When I insisted on a quote he told me that I should learn to live with it as most people do. He begrudgingly agreed to get me quote. He told me to call him the following Monday (really, I have to call you back and pursue you? Shouldn't a company be proactive about calling their customers back to get more business?).  I found another plumber that was much better and suggest you do the same.

What a waste of time and money. The guy showed up late, sat in his truck for 15 minutes to come up with a price for the work we already explained to the company the day before, then wanted nearly $350 for about half an hour of work. Their claim that the $119 charge just to come out and look is credited toward the cost of the job is a bit of a sales trick: they just up the price of the work itself. Got lots of suggestions on hot water heaters that we didn't ask about.

No attention to detail and way over priced. First they installed right flushing toilet to replace left flushing and had to switch them out. Very few people order right flush handles. They replaced sink stoppers with brushed nickel instead of chrome. Then replaced stoppers too small for opening and charged us $398 for it! Their billing and invoices are a mess. Was not left a final invoice, I had to call and request one which was different price than quoted. They turned around and charge me an additional $119 using mystery math for fee which was to be waved if I used their services.  Do not use this company! I was able to get another toilet in our home replaced with better quality fixture for $530. D & F changed $1600 for same service!

Buyer Beware!! of D&F Plumbing
Really bad experiences with D&F Plumbing.  First, they overtightened and broke the knob on the backflow preventor for our sprinkler system and the backflow had to be replaced ($500).  Then, they installed a sump pump in our crawl space and we learned afterwards that not only did they overcharge us $3000 for a $1000 project, they used a very small 13 gallon basin that is woefully undersized.

Plumbing company billed me 548$ fo 2 hours of work, this included his driving time to run to ace hardware and buy a part, 2?weeks later one of the issues he fixed, a leaky separately drain valve at bottom of water heater and i immediately scheduled them back out to properly fix the leak. The morning of the return trip they called to inform me that drip repairs to water heaters were not guaranteed and that only a complete water heater replacement could solve the leak 100% guaranteed , i had also left multiple messages for their service mAnager randy to ask why their rates were 3-4 times established plumber rates in portland vancouver and he never bothered to return my calls . Great experience with D and F Plumbing!  Plumber had to cut holes in walls to get to job of bracing piping which prior contractor had left undone.  D and F's plumber took time to find exactly where he had to open up the walls land did excellent work over the two day job, leaving the work area clean each evening.  When his job was over, he left things clean and ready for the dry wall/painting contractor to take over the project.  I am pleased with the experience and will recommend D and F Plumbing to anyone!

2/7/2023 Vancouver WA. While making appointment for 2/8/2023 for leak detection in front yard I was told that it raining outside would not cause a problem to locate leak in front yard. I was told they will send their best plumber with the absolute best leak detection equipment. They called the day of appointment to change it from a late afternoon to an early morning appointment. After waiting 5 hours I called them and they said they'd be there by the end of the day. The tech showed up 2 more hours later (Brett was very nice) but after putting his equipment (a prob/listening device; no other equipment was used) into the ground he said it's raining and there is road noise so he can't locate where the leak is in the front yard. Then gave me an estimate of $9,000.00 to replace the main water line from the street to the house. Approx 50ft. And said; but he's not sure if that will fix the leak but it's the best place to start. Then gave a referral to another leak detection company. Said he spoke to his boss/manager and he said to call about a reduced charge.
I called to talk to his manager who said there's nothing he can do but offer me 50% off for a second visit charge to come out again try to locate the leak. Why would I pay you a second time for a job you couldn't do the first time?? I was charged $550 from them to tell me it's raining outside and that's not their problem. Oh well!
I want to point out that Keith at the office was very friendly and tried to be helpful but his boss wouldn't even take my call or call me back.
I would think twice before giving this company a call or your money to tell you they can't find the problem because of rain and cars driving by and give you a very over priced quote to not know if it will fix the problem. Not a company I would recommend for leak detection.
Absolutely the worse experience I have ever experienced by any company!!

update as of 2/13/2023 They called and offered a 50% refund for their initial visit. That's better then nothing.

It has been over two weeks since we received a fraudulent bill from D&F which suddenly added items to a previously completely paid bill from months previously for a kitchen faucet replacement.  These added items were never done at our home.   I called immediately and was assured by two people someone would follow up with me within 24 hours, and I have received no follow up (this seems to be their MO, since the plumber who came in May was supposed to fix another faucet he didn't know how to fix, and *he* said he'd follow up, which he never did).  In the meantime, my attorney may be about to get involved.   Another punch line to this is the guy who did the work for us in May said an angle stop under the kitchen sink hadn't been installed correctly.  Guess who did that installation back in October?  D&F.

UPDATE 8/19/20:  After receiving assurances from Mari (per her reply here) and a supervisor named Don that everything was fixed in terms of the fraudulent bill, guess what I received today?  *Another* invoice with the same fraudulently added items and amount due.   Unbelievable incompetence.

Terrible. Under no circumstances would I have them work for me again! I asked them out to find out why my faucet wasn't working within 5 minutes the plumber said it was a little filter on my faucet. He took it off and promptly went to his truck and lost it. They billed me for 2 hours because they said his truck was at my home for that long. I paid them, and requested a refund. They gave me a partial. I asked them to send me the aerator because we couldn't get together so it could be put back on. I waited over a month, they never sent it. I then sent them a email and told them to not send it because I bought a new one. I also requested a full refund because they didn't don't complete the job in a timely manner. Months later I still have had no reply.
So , forget about. If they couldn't complete a tiny job, what might they do with something more serious?

Don't use this company unless you have a lot of $$$.

I was in dire need to have the cylinder inside my faucet in my upstairs's tub replaced since there was a slow drip down to the downstair ceiling whenever it gets turned on. D&F was quicker to get to me than other companies I called. My bad luck!!!

They ended up charging me $366.50, with the Senior discount and coupon. I called other Plumbing Company afterwards to describe what was done on the job, and was told with $99.00 service call, including the first 30 minutes (which was how long it took Stefan, D&F repair guy), plus cost of part ($50.00) and senior discount, it should have costed me $147.50. I called and talked to Mike at D&F to discuss the outrageous charge, asking for details of costs and was told they do not itemize their bill. Was also told they charge customers with honesty and integrity. To that, I told Mike sarcastically Really???.

Don't go to them.....They know that you are desperate and feel just to grounge you at their will. Stay away!!!!

I had a terrible experience with D&L plumbing to fix a leaking faucet. I made an appointment seven days before they were supposed to arrive.  I was told they would arrive at 8 sharp November 30.  I called at 10 to see what was going on.  The lady said I was next in line since there had been a scheduling error.  By noon I called again.  I was told maybe it would have to be tomorrow.  I should have read other reviews to see just how terrible others have rated them.  Worst customer service I have had in years.

My household had a terrible experience with D&F Plumbing, and I wanted to write this review to hopefully prevent others from having similar experiences and to help the company change. I'll do my best to be brief and objective in highlighting the issues with this company and our plumbing experience.

We had plumbers Aaron and Brandon come to fix a leak we had been experiencing from a pipe leaking through our ceiling.

Aaron initially quoted us $1300, when he opened up our ceiling and saw the issue two days later after the assessment, the price became $3500. They then worked on it for about 12 hours that day. They left on a few occasions for between 30 min - 1 hr each time without communicating where they were going. Aaron frequently seemed frustrated at how challenging the job was telling us at different points that he was frustrated, had tried every trick in the book, and that it was the hardest job I've ever had. Totally reasonable for a job to be hard, but they did not bring in any back-up or admit that it may have been a job outside their scope.

The end result of their job was a pipe jutting outwards from our wall rather than within the wall, excessive demolition of the wall and ceiling beyond what was needed, a hole in the wall in the adjacent room to the pipes, a toilet put back in the floor out of alignment with exposed cracks in the floor, and to top it off one of the pipes leaked periodically for at least that evening, we had to put a bucket down. I've attached pictures of some of this. They left the house very dirty without cleaning up various leftovers of drywall dust and debris. Aaron did not say anything about the hole in our kitchen wall. The way they finished this job will require us paying contractors and plumbing much more than we would have needed if we had gone with another plumber initially.

Aftermath:

The next day, we initially called to complain about the plumbing job, they said they would get back to us with someone more in charge of the business, they never did. Instead plumber Aaron shows up at our house unannounced that day. He sat around our living room waiting for my landlord to finish up with counseling sessions he already had scheduled. It was very awkward to have a stranger, in Covid times especially, milling around our common areas. When asked why he was here he stated I thought I would just come by, this isn't the kind of
thing you talk about over the phone, so I thought I would come in person. When my landlord did talk to him, he was highly defensive.

We have tried reaching out to the company through a good friend's assistance who is a professional contractor, they have been evasive with him and have not gotten back in touch with him or us about this debacle of a plumbing job. He tried to visit them in person from the address listed here on google, he could not find any business at the address named or related to D&F Plumbing. Maybe they moved? It was very odd they didn't tell him that wasn't their address when he told the receptionist he was going to come talk in person.

We have had two contractors and another plumber come inspect their work and they all agree that it was poor quality work and that they were trying to overcharge us for what they were doing.

D&F Plumbing, there is still an opportunity for you to put this right. If you reach out to me I will connect you to the contractor who has been trying to get in touch with you. For everyone else, I would recommend you go elsewhere for your plumbing needs, at least as of now, this was a terrible plumbing experience for us and I wouldn't wish it on anyone else. It's sad that a company would put us through this and not communicate or try to make right their plumbing job during a time as difficult as this for all of us.

I attempted to elevate the issue the day of the service with no result or call back. Replying to a public posting on Yelp with no other response or refund doesn't really cut it.

Every experience I've had with D&F has included excellent and timely customer service, always with several estimates that include a variety of options for me to decide on.

When you say you're going to call me to let me know if there was anything major that needed to be replaced I trusted that I would get a call not a bill for $400 a week later.  $99 for 2 basket strainers seems a little steep but what do I know?  I will never use D & F again, end of story.

I wish I had read the other reviews of this horrible company before calling them.

My tenants reported that there was a lack of hot water and another had a problem with a clogged drain. The water heater had been repaired before by replacing one of the heating elements. I suspected that the other element must have gone out but just in case it was the water heater, I checked several places in the area and found I could get a new heater installed for about $550.

I normally use a reliable plumber but was unable to reach him and found D&F on the web. I was pleased that D&F said they could go out right away (in hindsight, I see why they are eager to take the business). I told them that I needed a water  heater looked at, gave them the model number, and asked them to replace the heating element if needed. The person on the phone immediately tried to sell me a new heater saying they only lasted 5-7 years. I asked him how much the price was and he said $800. I told him that it was way too much and I could get it done cheaper. I also knew that water heaters in the Portland area lasted longer than that and was getting suspicious but since he said he could get out there right away, and had the heater element part on board, I approved him. I made another big mistake by not asking for the rate ahead of time but assumed it would be competitive (about $80).

According to my property manager onsite, he said the technician immediately wanted to replace the heater without even checking the element and started to drain the water out of the heater to replace it and was having one delivered without asking me first. My manager told them to call me upon which I told them again, that they were not to replace the heater. He then went to work on other items such as checking a leaky drain (which he claimed was not to code), replacing a leaky shower faucet head and some other issues.

I was shocked to see the bill. Over $1,000 for the repairs. There was a $75 restock charge for the water heater which I never ordered. In addition, the labor rate is over $115 per hour. I never received a timely bill. When I complained to my credit card company, they called D&F and a told me that a customer support rep from D&F would call back to discuss the bill but I never received a call. Instead, I received this lengthy hand written bill in extreme detail saying what work had been done.

Subsequently, I received a call from my plumber who went out to check on the heater. He confirmed it was the element and replaced it. He also fixed the drain issue saying that it appeared to have been tampered with. His work cost me $150. He also told me that he used to work for a plumbing house like this one whose business model was that they would never see the same customer twice. This is D&F's philosophy - charge as much as you can from the customer now because once they see the bill and determine how you operate, they will not come back for business. The good news is there are other companies that don't do business this way. You just have to find them.

I disputed the charge denying payment of 3 hours of labor and the shipping and tool charge for the water heater and had my credit card company withhold partial payment. Instead of receiving a call to discuss,  I was subsequently delivered a Notice of Intent to Lien. Checking attorneys in the area, it would have cost $300 retainer just to study it and I would have been subjected to going to court and if the ruling were to go against me, I would be liable for attorney fees. I believe that's why they can get away with over-charging because they will intimidate you with a lien if you dispute it. In Oregon, the lien process seems to benefit the contractor and not the property owner in a dispute like this.

I feel this company is deceptive. when you make an appointment to have a drain cleaned they don't let you know they have a set fee that is egregiously high. over $500 to clean a drain that took 10 minutes.  beware....

d&f plumbing was amazing....jesse...the plumber for d&f was extremely professional, knowledgeable....and nice as can be....we had a stopped up tub that another company came out, said they couldn't fix and on top of that charged us 150 dollars dispatch fee.....the job was a bear....it looked like they were going to have to pull our cabinets down...jesse just kept plugging at it....and finally got things working again..with no major remodel...he had to cut holes in our ceiling and in our bathroom.....which was necessary......but he did so in a neat fashion....the holes are perfectly square and ready to patch...he was also very clean....he wore booties the whole time as to not mess up the floors in our condo....not only that but he put plastic down and covered the floor and counter.....and when all was said and done he cleaned up every bit of dust and dirt any any other circumstantial debris....if you are looking for a good plumber.....D&F......is the way to go......they wont let you down.....

In a time of pretty much everyone booking times of a week or more before they can come out to even look at your problem, D & F plumbing came out the same day we called them. Mike did an assessment of our plumbing system, as well as our issue. Replaced our old disposal and solved our leak.  So for us, D & F were a solid choice and we would definitely use them again.

Consumer beware. D & f plumbing Provided me with the worst costumer service experience I've ever dealt with in my life. Along with a huge bill. I called d&f durring an emergency flood in my kitchen. The pipe behind my fridge burst and completely flooded my kitchen. At first, I thought d&f was my savior. They showed up after an hour, but by then I was excited to see anyone, the plumber got the water turned off and had the pipe resealed in about 15 minutes. Thank god! I thought I was in the clear. I did think it was odd I didn't get a bill or an invoice, but by then, I was mostly relieved. Relief died down when I got my bill form d&f for almost six hundred dollars. I called to see how that could possibly be right, I assumed 300.... but almost double? That makes zero sense. I must have called 10 times, each time, I was put off, being told I would get a call back with an invoice...this never happened. I did however get an explanation that an emergency call costs 200 dollars and then the cost of the plumber is added on...I asked the person on the phone what plumber is paid 400+ for fifteen minutes of work, for which he replied...'it is what it is'. This is unacceptable. I've never felt such poor service in my life. I understand why you can't explain the cost, it literally makes no sense. Anyways, people deserve to know this company is a band of thieves. I'll be spreading my review online based on my experience.

After a long review process of a bill I didn't agree with, we came to a reasonable compromise.

Hey, would you like to spend $1,800 on having a plumber work for one hour to replace a sink and two valves? Then D&F Plumbing is for you.

Like a lot of people, we were in a bind after the big freeze we had in late December 2022, and after we turned the water back on -- our kitchen sink had clogged hot and cold taps.

We had Randy from D&F come out to look at it, and they got us in quicker than any other plumber we called. After assessing the situation for about thirty minutes and discussing with me all the options, he recommended replacing the fixture and the valves. The fixture was something that I could pick up at Ace for $90. The valves were about $10 each. After about forty minutes, he had the work done. He explained everything in great detail and was very kind, helpful and professional.

Most plumbers in this town that I've called charge around $120 an hour (plus parts). If he'd have charged twice that -- even three times that -- I'd gladly give D&F 5 stars. But this was TEN TIMES what anyone might expect to pay for this kind of thing. Do not call these people. They will take advantage of you. Use them only as a last resort, and maybe not even then.

I was charged $785.00 for 1 hour of work where the plumber cut a small pipe and removed it.  Not worth it!  will never use again to expensive!

Cancelled appointment day before it was scheduled.  Some guy showed up anyway at 6AM.  They then threatened to take us to court for Non-payment....not sure of what.  They finally stopped sending us letters after about 6 months.

Worst experience ever.  Used the wrong tools for the job and in the process damaged a pipe that caused a leak in the unit below, had to rip their ceiling out to repair it.  When they finally finished the bill which was quoted at $289.00 was suddenly $2,100 and when I asked for a detailed invoice to show what we were paying for they refused, we went back and forth about it over phone and email then finally I paid the $289 and filed a complaint with the BBB.  They refused to respond to the BBB inquiry and next thing I had was a letter from their lawyer when I responded to the lawyer, I didn't hear anything back and that was a month ago - guessing it isn't over yet.  Sandy the owner is a nightmare to deal with and says things that are completely untrue such as Oregon Statutes say we don't have to provide a detailed invoice In fact Oregon statute says completely the opposite for jobs over $2,000.  She also claimed to have sent the detailed invoice to my insurance company but it wasn't an insurance job and they were never provided with my insurance company's details.   Be very cautious when dealing with this company.
