Ackerman Plumbing Services

Had a gushing leak in the supply line to my house.  Called Ackerman based on reviews here.  Someone got back to me within an hour.  Gave me options of scheduling for business hours work, which understandably would be several days out, or having a same-day off-hours visit with the customary hourly premium.

I opted for the latter.  Steve called to discuss the project, and set an expectation for arrival.  He arrived on time and did a great job, helping me understand along the way what went wrong.  At one point there was a decision between a faster fix and Doing It The Right way at additional cost.  Steve laid it out with zero upsell pressure, very articulate and professional.  And unlike the last plumber I used, did not reek of tobacco smoke.

Next time I have a plumbing issue, I will call Ackerman first.

It's hit or miss with this place. They do charge more than anyone else per hour and will go to store when they don't stock a part in their truck. That hour is not free for shopping. It cost you The hourly rate is still in effect for shopping for a part. They used to be good but they are slipping. It has bugged me ever since. And slow should be their middle name. Milking the clock is not what I want. Expect surprise costs and to be nickeled and dimed to death. If you get the young woman she is good and moves more quickly and confidently. If you get anyone else who needs her assistance expect to pay for 2 people per hour at the current hourly rate times 2. Details are not their strong point.

I am beyond impressed with this plumbing company. To start, I am a busy person but that did not stop Steve with Ackerman Plumbing from playing the telephone tag game for a few weeks. Finally, when we realized our schedules were not going to sync up for several weeks, Steve went out of his way to stop at my house on his way out of town over the weekend. And it gets better. Steve identified the leak and was able to temporarily stop it. And here is the most best part - Steve did all of this for no charge.
This company gets 5 stars for service, honesty and just for being nice!

We recently purchased a small farm that come to find out needed several plumbing repairs.  I checked reviews and chose Ackerman Plumbing and I'm so glad I did.  Steven and Erin took care of everything on the list from a leaky shower in the guest bath and installing a new toilet, to fixing a cracked pipe in the garage and re-routing the sink in the shop.  They were not only friendly and courteous to work with, but they were very knowledgeable and professional and I highly recommend them to anyone needing plumbing services.  I'll never use another company now that I've found Ackerman Plumbing.

I have done business with Ackerman Plumbing for over 20 years.  That speaks for itself!  They know old plumbing and new plumbing.  They come on time.  They know what they are doing so get the work done in a timely fashion.  It is always a pleasure to work with them.

Couldn't be more satisfied with the service by Ackerman Plumbing. I called them during the last snow storm when our pipes started making a loud dinging sound. Fearing frozen pipes - Steven Jr. re-arranged his schedule and hiked through the snow to make sure we weren't snowed in w/o water with our newborn. Thoughtful, on time, and easy to work with. Ackerman Plumbing came to my house and drained my water heater after a handyman and hours of YouTube didn't work out. Steven explained why my water was coming out brown in one bathroom and removed the small piece causing what I thought was a much larger issue. I appreciate that he took time to assess all my plumbing fixtures and explained to me the plumbing mistakes that were made and what a less knowledgeable or less honorable plumber might have tried to do to fix the problem instead.

These guys were great. Steven Jr. installed a new water heater in the garage when my other one had leaked and caused great water damage.  He re-piped everything as well.  Turned out I needed to have a forced bath remodel done due to the water damage, and Ackerman replaced the tub, toilet, fixed the leaks , etc....THey were honest and priced fairly.  I had no complaints about them.  I'm eventually going to hav to move the w/d to the garage too, which means repiping, and I will have them do that as well.

I've used Ackerman plumbing twice now.  They are very skilled, friendly and very reasonable.  I had all my toilets changed out and today, Steven put in new trim kits for me.  He showed be several things and reassured me about some noisy pipes (not a problem). I'll have them back in the next few months to change out all my shut off valves.  Terrific company!

I have used this company for years for my backflow testing. Spoke with Steve today about why they never showed up for the scheduled appointment. I was told he never got the message are you serious? Oh, but then he tells me that he is booked and can't get my testing done by the date required. Was completely rude to me. I will never ever use this company again!

Knowledgeable, reliable and reasonable. A long-established family firm that both practices and teaches plumbing. My quest for the best in Portland plumbers is complete! Call them with confidence.

Spoke to several different plumbers and read reviews off Angies List before I ended up going with Ackerman Plumbing. Steven Jr. and his apprentice came out to my house during our kitchen remodel.  The plumbing project included relocation of water lines in kitchen sink, installation of new waste piping in kitchen, new sink vent for both kitchen and washer, and water supply installed for fridge.
Steven was very professional, arrived on time and got the job done in the predicted time. The downside was that the job ended up being about 50% more expensive than estimated due to some piping beneath the house that needed to be replaced and took an extra couple hours. Would like to have known about this ahead of time...
The permitting was taken care of by them, although I had to call and remind them to schedule the final inspection. Overall, very nice and professional and I have no regrets using their services.

The plumber who arrived discovered a hidden, and challenging, issue with our plumbing system. His experience, knowledge, and care for his customers showed through in his determination (and success!) in finding a creative, inexpensive, and effective solution to our unique problem.  

Additionally, we really appreciated his frequent check-ins in regards to both scheduling, and our options and decisions about our plumbing system.

Exceeded expectations doesn't begin to describe my experience.

Steven Ackerman Jr. installed a new water heater in my house today. I had a minor emergency happening and he made a special trip at the end of his day to help me out. Since the call started during regular business hours I wasn't charged the after hours labor even though it ran over. I really appreciated that. He did a great job. He was very professional, conscientious and made sure everything was done properly. The input water valve to my water heater would not fully shut off so he had to replace it too. He had to turn the house water off to do this. When he turned the water back on to the house the gunk in my 40 year old galvanized pipes clogged up one of my faucets. He took time to clean it out and made sure all the faucets in my house were running freely and included that in his labor charge. They use made in America, Bradford White, water heaters which is nice. He showed me how to use it and explained how to drain it annually to keep it clean. I would definitely recommend them and will use them again for all my plumbing needs.

Steven Jr. came by and solved our plumbing mystery: a malfunctioning backwater valve! Excellent service and repair. We are very impressed with this business and their apprentice program.

I used Ackerman Plumbing to replace two sinks/faucets/toilets in my bathrooms and was extremely happy with the job that was performed.
I have a 1900s house with a number of non-standard plumbing arrangements which made this project tricky but Ackerman handled it without a problem. They made useful suggestions for overcoming the hook-up issues, were very helpful in making sure that I was selecting the correct parts and executed the installations professionally. They were always prompt, courteous and honest. Finally, their attention to aesthetic detail was exceptional - I am very particular about things being centered, squared and even and they got it right the first time in most cases or quickly made adjustments when requested.
As for pricing, they were extremely reasonable on the fixtures (often coming in under the Ferguson retail prices even though they offered warranty coverage above and beyond the manufacturer's) and service charges were competitive with other plumbing services.
I will definitely use Ackerman again in the future and would not hesitate to recommend them to others.

Both of the Steven's (father/son pair I believe) are extremely knowledge and helpful.  We had a hard time finding someone who could service our manafold water system and they were quick to research and find a solution/suitable replacement.  Ackerman is not cheap but they are fair and worth every penny.  They fix the problem the right way, the first time which is wonderful. We are moving out of their service area and are lamenting we can't bring them with us to help with our new home.

My husband and I cannot thank APS enough for being so responsive in our emergency situation. Our pipes froze and then burst in 4 different places on a Sunday afternoon and Steven Jr. was out within 30 minutes of me calling. He quickly assessed the situation and showed us where the breaks were and explained why the pipes had frozen and where. Being first time homeowners and only living in our first home for 4 months, we were very unsure of how to handle the situation. Steven was incredible! He had us up and running with water to the rest of the house within 2 hours and replaced the old copper pipe with A Pex piping that will not be as likely to burst. He also showed us how to avoid this situation in the future, walked us through the process of winterizing the home for next year, etc. He took his time but was also very efficient and gave us a fair price! His card is on our fridge and we will definitely be calling him for our next plumbing need.

Customer service is great! At their initiative, Ackerman helped figure out the problem before ever coming out, which saved me money for their time.  They were flexible, tried to find options that we liked, and responsive.  We ended up replacing our toilet and the installation looks and works great.
