Established in 1907.
Tarvin Plumbing has been in business over a hundred years as a result of a strong relationship with it's customers and community. Local family owned business to this day, spanning five generations. F.G. Tarvin started the business as a roofing and heating business in New Richmond, Ohio. We moved to our current building on Eastern Avenue in 1938.

I've been in the plumbing business all of my life. I am the 4th generation of 112 year old family plumbing business. I'm a Master Plumber with 36 years of experience in the Cincinnati area. I started working as a helper while my grandfather still worked in the business. I worked in the field, went through school and eventually took over the family business.

I called Tarvin first thing Monday morning to see about getting a gas line run for a new stove. The girl explained they have two different ways to schedule an appointment. 1) Choose a day and they will be out first thing around 830am. Or 2) give them your schedule over the next few days and if they finish a job and can fit you they'll call and see if that works for you. Well I work 8am-430pm Monday to Friday, and apparently those are their only service hours. Luckily, I was off work on Tuesday and asked if there was anyway they could fit me in on one days notice and they said they would try.
I got a call around 10:30am Tuesday saying they could be there in 30 minutes. Perfect! The guy showed up, installed everything for the gas line from the basement to the new stove and was finished within an hour and a half.
I wasn't super impressed with their price, it seemed a little high to me, but I've never had this type of work done before, so it might be right in line for the industry. It was $80 for parts and $180 for labor. But the guy was already there, and I hate having to schedule stuff like this, so maybe I paid for the convenience of not having to look for someone else and get quotes, etc. I was glad they were able to accommodate my schedule.

I've used them twice and will call them again. They were on time, did the repair as expected and the repairs have lasted.
We called Tarvin this morning at 8:30 for a clogged drain. They said they would send someone late morning or early afternoon, so I was very pleased when I received a call at 10:30 to say that they were on their way. They also told me the names of the men that were coming, which I very much appreciated. They were efficient, polite, and professional - couldn't really ask for more!

I'm very satisfied with the service I received from Tarvin Plumbing. They scheduled me quickly and the plumber (Brent) was knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. Prices were fair, especially for a high quality, no-fuss job.

They arrived when they said they would. They fixed the problem and with the time left (45 minutes minimum) he went around and fixed the bathtub drain. Jim was very good, very pleasant, and a hard worker. Will have them take care of the 2 new buildings we are rehabbing in Over The Rhine

In response to the owner's comments.
Yes Mike, the work was all performed without any quote. It's your responsibility as the business owner to handle your employees and your standards of service.
I repeatedly asked for a quote and the guy said he couldn't give me one until he was already performing the repairs and that it could be $1200, or $2400 or... (literally, verbatim, that's what he said). He was the professional-- not me. He was the one supposed to know. My mother was present for this conversation, and when I still couldn't get a quote I had the plumber speak to my boyfriend who even he couldn't get him pinned down an estimate.
Furthermore I specifically requested to speak with you-- assuming you're the business owner, and I was told you wouldn't accept customer's calls and that your plumber would call me.
To place the blame on me as a customer as if it's bizarre that anybody would allow work without a quote is unprofessional and offensive. I'm not local-- I was paying to have the work performed on my mother's home and I trusted your company. I should have known since you were already charging me just to come out that it was a bait and switch-- I was already monetarily invested at that point and you had me.
Attached / posted are the invoices for this debacle. I'm sure you can look up my contact info based on the invoice # if you'd like to reach out.
Tarvin plumbers helped me with toilet installs and a water heater install and their follow up is great. Many years ago we had trouble locating a large enough gas water heater and they drove to KY to locate one. They will go the extra mile and the owner called us personally to see that this was done.

Always excellent service for a fair price. I have a 100 year old house and Tarvin is always who I call (and who I will be calling for my sure to be impending plumbing issues) I've also recommended them to several people and they have had good experiences as well.
As a first time home owner I always get nervous when something goes wrong and I need to call a company for help. I have been taken advantage of by companies before and always worry I will get someone less than honest. My kitchen sink was backing up and food was coming out in my laundry area. I called Tarvin after hours hoping to get someone the very next day. They promptly returned my call the next morning and not only sent someone out they also worked around my schedule. The service was excellent. Jim was friendly and efficient. He even showed me how I could unclog my own bathroom sink while he was here. When he left I not only felt confident that the problem was fixed, but also that I had paid a fair price. I will certainly use Tarvin again.

Tarvin Plumbing is an excellent company. They are very professional, kind, and do wonderful work. We had both of our bathrooms remodeled and a third bathroom with a sink reconstruction. It's absolutely gorgeous! They were so patient while my husband and I chose what we wanted for our designs and they did exactly what we wanted. We've worked with Tarvin at 4 houses over 33 years and have always been happy with them. They are very professional and friendly, and they always solve the problem.
UPDATE: Tarvin did send unexpected compensation for the vanity and refund. They (unexpectedly) went above and beyond to fix the situation so I will revise to 5 stars.
STEER CLEAR- here's my notes and a photo.
Up front I discussed with Ellis I wanted to keep to $120 bill. Ended up over $180 ( even with his gracious $25 discount ).
Didn't have parts to fix pipes even when I discussed what I needed on phone.
I Went to HD after he told me 3/8 size needed. It needed to be 1/4. Luckily I checked.
He was in his truck when I returned from Hd and claimed most of the time I was gone, he was cleaning the pipes.
charged me for parts at end I didn't know I was getting charged for. Why didn't he have me get them when I was at Hd?
He ended up using a completely different part than he was originally going to use that I grabbed just in case at hd. I never knew I was going to be charged $24 for additional parts until he was done. Then he said he could take them off after they were put on ? Also, when he was there about an hour and hadn't began soldering, he let me know he could leave if I wanted him to.
Called to complain and spoke to i believe mike... he's a piece of work What a joke. Enjoy your Tarvin experience.
Needed quick service on a leak beneath a bathroom sink. Our house was going on the market in days. Though booked, Tarvin put me on their call list in case a plumber in my area became available. I missed the window on the first time they called, but the second time I managed to catch them and they showed up on time, gave me an accurate assessment and fair quote, and completed the work quickly. They cleaned up well after themselves. All and all, a great experience.

Tarvin replaced a broken flush valve on my guest toilet. I had purchased a replacement valve thinking of doing the work myself, but decided to let a professional do it. I asked if the valve purchased by me was acceptable. I was told after it was installed that it was about an inch shorter than the original. Because of that, I have to now hold down the flush handle until the bowl empties, and the supply valve now constantly leaks water because the float does not go up high enough to turn it off. So after the $214 payment, I still have a defective toilet. I contacted Tarvin and offered to purchase a new flush valve and supply valve from them if they would not charge another installation fee. They refused. They refused to offer any consideration for the problem. I feel that a professional plumber should have told me that the flush valve would not work rather than install it and then tell me it wouldn't work properly.
Have been using Tarvin for years at two different houses. My outside hose faucet became inoperable and I called Tarvin. They were in the area and 15 minutes later Brent arrived...needed some internal parts and did not have to replace the faucet. Was done in less than 15 minutes and very reasonable charge. Very Happy!!

Every time I asked the plumber a question he would reply I'm not sure, what do you think? Didn't instill confidence, but they got the job done.
These guys were great - the plumber who came out to fix our clogged toilet really tried hard to minimize time spent and expense of the overall repair. Super nice, honest guy - I would definitely call them again.

I hired Tarvin because of their high ratings and common sense approach to diagnosing a storm drain repair. Unfortunately, on this multi-step repair they either miscommunicated or mislead me a few times. Despite considerable attempts to communicate somethings were not completed as contracted and discussed. One example which seems completely out of character, considering the reviews- one of the drains that had just been cleared of debris and roots by a Tarvin plumber was not covered up nor repaired to prevent more debris from falling in. I ended up configuring a temporary fix with things I had on hand. Our agreement was I would supply material so it and the other downspout that needed connected would be repaired. When I went to purchase supplies I was told not to purchase anything yet. When I gave them the opportunity to follow through on what was discussed they basically told me -it was my problem. The other problems were annoying but I could overlook them. In general I imagined a much better outcome considering the other reviews and spending 7000+ dollars.

The builder of our townhome in OTR put our furnace and AC on the second floor to get more airflow to the third floor. We ran into a problem with the AC drain overflowing to our kitchen ceiling in the second floor. We called Tarvin for help as we needed someone soon.
Dave came over the next day and we got service at a reasonable price. Dave not only fixed our problem but spent time helping us figure out how to prevent the issue from happening again. He took us step by step through the process and even explained that it's actually pretty normal to have some buildup in the pvc pipes from dripping water lines.
This was above and beyond and much appreciated. And we weren't gouged the service. When this happened we were concerned because we have had bad experiences with plumbers in the past. Tarvin is our go to plumber from here on out.
Tarvin has saved the day for my wife and I twice. First we had something burst on a bathroom sink that led to an unfortunate small flood. We feared the fix would be costly and a hole would end up in the wall, but nope. Tarvin came as fast as they could, fixed the valve, no damage to the wall and it was under $100. Next, we had a clog that just wouldn't go away despite a paycheck's worth of clog remover, so I called Tarvin again. 30 minutes later clog gone and everything in good working order. The workers are always nice, service is great, repairs are affordable. I will not use another plumber in Cincinnati. I am a big fan.

Tar in Plumbing wrote an untruthful response to my post of poor service. Called the office was plumber was here. The woman was rude and I could hear her saying I am a complainer and to leave. The plumber was here maybe 25 minutes and he seemed unconcerned about my plumbing issues.
Professional and timely, but since Tarvan installed our original bath drain it was backed up the day after they originally installed the drain 7 years ago and has backed up twice since, the charge of $200 to clean the drain again seems extremely high. I will never use their services again.
Called in Apollo first and they couldn't unplug the drain (but still charged me). Suggested I spend thousands of dollars cutting the wall and pipe out.
Called Tarvin next. They got the job done.
We can't say enough about Tarvin Plumbing. Every time we have called them they have solved our problem on a timely basis, for a reasonable price. The last time we had them out they came to fix an issue that another plumber had been clueless about. They not only quickly diagnosed the problem, but had several solution options. They also took a few (unscheduled) minutes to look at a couple of other plumbing concerns, and let us know what would be involved with a repair or replace. Very professional. After our last experience, we'll now call them first every time!

Shout out to Tarvin for coming out and fixing a clog in our sink. My landlord called them and within 20 minutes I got a call that someone was on their way. 30 minutes later he was at my door - talk about service! I am having guests stay the weekend and I was anticipating having this problem for at least a few days and Tarvin saved me from a hostess nightmare and a sink full of dirty dishes.
Full disclosure - I can't speak to the price since my landlord booked them, but I can say that they were insanely quick and the nice man that came was very friendly and worked quickly to solve the problem. Very satisfied and would highly recommend!
Pro tip: Don't forget to take advantage of their Yelp deal!

These folks are extremely professional and very reasonable in their rates. I had two outside faucets as well as my inside sink that leaked. With a finished basement a previous plumber said the outside one would need to be replaced which would involve cutting through the inside drywall. I am happy to say Tarvin did both and never needed to go inside through the drywall. Kitchen faucet works great. Tarvin is my new go to for any plumbing problems.
I have used Tarvin Plumbing for more than 30 years, ever since I became a homeowner. My dad used Tarvin when he was a homebuilder before he retired. Their service has always been first-rate: the work is excellent; their people, both on the job and in the office, are great; and their prices are reasonable. We've used them for large and small plumbing issues and for a partial re-model of one of our bathrooms, and we've never been less than completely satisfied. I always recommend them when someone I know is looking for a plumber.
