HISTORY

Established in 2005.
JD Plumbing Company was founded in 2005 by master plumber John Dietz with one goal in mind: to provide homeowners and business owners in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Wake Forest and the rest of the Triangle with reliable, affordable plumbing services they could depend on. Also a licensed general contractor, over the years John had seen his share of shortcuts and good enough workmanship from other vendors. He knew that a company whose mission was to give customers exactly what they needed and done to the highest possible standards would be successful.

ABOUT BUSINESS OWNER

I started a service plumbing, heating, and air conditioning company with a belief that I exist solely to serve my customer first with all of their plumbing, heating and a/c needs.

I also wanted to have the best people to take care of our customers so I seek only the best people and train them multiple hours a week so that we can consistently achieve the highest level of skill and customer satisfaction.

I am grateful for having the opportunity to serve our community and I do my best to show me gratitude in my actions.

Super professional, on time, and good workmanship. I'm not sure that they are the cheapest in the area, but sometimes you get what you pay for. That said, their prices are not unreasonable.

Edwin was our plumber and he did a great job!

I'm very happy to have JD plumbing as my go to company for my heating and air conditioning needs.  As a first-time homeowner buying a house that needed some major updates, it was important to me to have people working on my home who were fair and dependable.  Even prior to making any committments with JD plumbing for a new HVAC system, they were always willing to come out and help us with maintenance work on our current system, most of the time on the same day.  When we decided to purchase, we did not feel pressured to buy add-ons that we didn't feel we needed and everything was explained to us completely.  We were also credited for work that had done on our older system.  The financing options were greater than expected and the process was incredibly simple.  Every person who has come by for consultations or work has been so professional and kind. As a young homeowner, I appreciate a company who treats their customers the way they would want their own children or family members to be treated.  Keep up the good work!

The incident happened 3 months ago..
Had to call JD due to a semi major disaster (at least in my opinion) overnight in the powder room.
Operator lady was was completely nice and professional.
Although the emergency service was unable to resolve my issue, another technician came first thing in the morning and get the job done!

I had to go as far as to install yelp because JD Service now is so lame that i had to review them. They took my call recorded my address, made me wait 24 hours in the North Carolina August heat then called me back to let me know they didnt come to my area. The same area i told them i lived in the same area they recorded and checked with a zip code. Sounds like they don't know what they are doing huh. Well after they told me they didnt come to my area their tech called to tell me when he would be out to my house but i had to tell him he didn't come to my area. The business seems to need a plexotom, a plexotomy is where they put a piece of plexiglass in your stomach so you can see where you're going with your head up your...well you know where im going with this.
I should have guessed they would be idiots feom listening to their half fast traffic report on 106.1 talk FM....

The results just do not lie.
Install new shower From July to October !!!!!!!!!! their plumbers reworked something and this Monday we took a shower for the first time and, - weak pressure in the shower - one body spray does not work - the handles look in different directions - the main shower without the Adapter Filter Mesh is very noisy - the sink faucets both jumped but one jumped heavily - it was replaced and the second jumped a little and the last plumber said that he could not repair it ??
After reading a few 5 stars reviews, I found out that they also had problems, but they were more satisfied with the qualitative apologies than the quality work, or it was very small work.
The results just do not lie

I contacted the company with a plumbing issue.  First scheduled repair day I was contacted and told they needed to reschedule.  Second scheduled day I contacted the company twice confirming availability.  The second call I asked that Marco note I was working in the yard (I'd been waiting for a call for 3 hours at that point).  I missed a call, listened to the voice mail and called back within 8 minutes.  Alyssa informed me that I missed my service slot because I did not call back within 5 minutes.  Alyssa's responses only escalated frustrations.  It's JD Service Never.

Our plumbing guy was great.  Prompt, professional, and thorough.  We made an appointment the day before, and they were able
To fit us in the next morning.  Our tech, Justin, did all we asked and gave us a few tips and things to look out for.  Very reasonable pricing, and he was prepared with everything he needed.  We initially
Called because of a drain backup, which he fixed quickly.  While we had him out there, we asked him to check out a couple other things that had been on our inspection report, which he did.  I will call JD again for any plumbing/ A/C issues without a doubt.

Plumbing-wise.. they did a decent job. As for the A/C maintenance job... they kept blowing my appointment off due to all-day emergencies.. third time they did it, my wife was like... we are not paying $127.63 to be blown off every time we schedule for our yearly maintenance check.

So I called back and asked for a refund of services never received and they refunded me a paltry $8.63!!

In response to what we believed was a plumbing issue - a sore spot in this house, because of previous catastrophic flooding due to substandard piping - I called JD after looking them up on various review sites. The dispatch person (Morgan M.) was very thorough on the two occasions we spoke, but we were really impressed with the plumber they sent out, Michael E. The young man arrived, listened and watched as I told him what had happened, and set about (1) correctly assessing the true cause {fridge water line leak}, (2) addressing our secondary concerns {plumbing fixture leaks/whistling in bath & kitchen, then setting a follow-up appt. the next day wherein both were corrected}, and in suggesting/contacting a competent area company to begin remediation of the saturated {month-old!} flooring the fridge leak caused. It's a shame to be bowled over by receiving professional service anymore, but we're pleased to say that's what we got from JD... and though we hope not to need them again soon, they'll be the ones we'll call if we need 'em!

JD Service has very good technicians, but the person(s) who answer the phone or schedule a service do not have experience or the lack skills to do their job.
I called for a service appointment in November and they could not come until November.  They said I had paid in advance for the service.
How can they not have a person to do maintenance in more than a month.
when you chat with a person in their web page, they ask for lots of details so another person can call you back and ask for the same information and tell you that they don't have appointments open.

I have had their service plan for many years now and have always been happy with the quality of work (plumbing and HVAC). Now the downside.

1. They give a day instead of a 2-4 hour block like other companies which is very annoying. During Covid I'm home all the time so it's not a big deal but otherwise, who has time to sit around ALL DAY waiting for them to show up. They spin it as a good thing (go about your day and we'll call you) but the reality is that I can't do a lot of normal things when I have to be ready to rush home at a moment's notice. I only use them when I can be first of the day so I know then they're coming. Also, a couple of times this year, I've called them at the end of the day because no one has showed up and they said they couldn't make it that day so I end up waiting around the next day too! Also, were they even planning to tell me they couldn't make it?

2. OUTRAGEOUS PRICES!! I've always used them for things where I don't really have a concept of how much it should cost but this time it just felt way overpriced (and Google agrees). $367 to install a toilet that I already purchased. $1200 to install a bathroom vanity that I already purchased. $530 to replace showerhead, faucet, and drain (external only) in bathroom.

I won't be using them anymore.

I have 3 words to say about this company. WOW WOW WOW!!
My husband and I bought our duplex in April and have been having plumbing issues since we moved in. Turns out, there have been issues with the plumbing for a long time and the previous owners decided to withhold that information from us (but that's a whole other issue). Every once in a while, our toilets overflow while our bathtubs backup with water. We have had several different plumbers come and fix our backup issue but no one seemed to ever have a permanent solution for us. And the issue just kept getting worse and worse.  We had a plumber come out on Wednesday for an emergency and he basically told us There is no permanent solution. You'll just have to keep getting your system snaked. That was the most frustrating thing I had heard!! Apparently spending $200 every other week was acceptable. We had back flow happen again on Saturday and we finally called JD Plumbing after a realtor friend told us about them. Jordan was very sweet on the phone and she recommended we have their specialist come on Monday to use a camera to analyze our piping. Until then, we needed someone to put a band aid on the issue. Jimmie showed up to our house after short notice and assessed the situation. After 30 minutes he had a list of possible reasons this was happening to us! He was the very first plumber he had that actually had ideas and possible solutions! My husband and I were immediately impressed. He was so nice, easy to talk to, and professional and really did everything he could to help us. A few hours after he left the issue reoccurred!!!!! I called Jordan again, near tears, and she seemed very sympathetic. She had Jimmie come back out to our house, free of charge, to try a few more things. Basically he said there wasn't much we could do until the specialist showed up Monday, but he tried his best to unclog things. He also stayed on call for us free of charge! The backup occurred again later in the evening. He arrived first thing in the morning with new equipment that his boss recommended. Withing 30 minutes he fixed it!!!!!! It seemed that we had a major backup very far down the sewage line where all basic snakes can't reach. The new equipment he brought was specialized to reach further down sewage lines. He even opened up the manhole in our neighborhood to show us our flow. I have never seen our toilets flush with so much force!! We always thought we just had a weak flush! I can even feel the water flow through the pipes between my feet!!!
I can't believe how helpful Jimmie and JD Plumbing were. They would not rest or give up until the problem was resolved. We are still having the specialist come on Monday to look at all our pipes. For all we know this is still a temporary fix to a larger issue.
After dealing with several different plumbers within the triangle, we finally found our go-to company!! In addition, my husband works in residential property management and he decided to start using JD plumbing for his clients and tenants. We really struck gold.
I couldn't wait until Monday to writer a review because I'm just too happy and excited with the work! I will give a following up after we meet with Mike the specialist on Monday.

I called to get a quote to install a sink and they said they couldn't give a quote over the phone. Then, when the plumber got to the house, he quoted an outrageous price. When I asked for an itemized quote, he said that's the standard rate. If that's the standard rate, why couldn't they tell me over the phone before I got fleeced? Not happy about this service.

My garbage disposal wasn't working. I called and got an appointment the next day. They called twice during the day to keep me apprised of the tech's arrival time. Juan came and was super courteous, nice and straightforward. Gave me quotes for unjamming, broken they bring and install replacement, broken I provide they install replacement. He got it unjammed (yay!) and I decided to purchase a new one myself for them to install later. He gave me horsepower and model recommendations (who knew?).
My water heater probably needs replacing (over 18 years old) and he spent a lot of time discussing options with me. I appreciated the discussion and then got quotes for several options. He helped me with setting up 0% financing and I made an appointment for the following week to get everything done at once. Very pleased.

We picked this company because of the GREAT reviews.  I've lived in Cary for 35+ years and I'm yet to find a plumber or plumbing company I like and can trust (please let me know if you find one) and this company was NO EXCEPTION!!

We only had a 4 hour window to have an install for a washer put into a utility room.  For that reason, my wife scheduled the appointment a week in advanced.  Plumber was to show between 11 and 1.  We gave it until 3 PM so my wife called only to be told no plumber was coming today!!  WHAT?!?  WE SCHEDULED THIS A WEEK AGO.  They thought it would be fine to come tomorrow but we explained we do not have access to the property tomorrow.

Anyway, a guy did show up (only reason for the extra star) finally at 5:45 PM (way after our deadline but the resident had not returned) only to tell us he was not doing it and would be too big of a job (they wanted to jack hammer concrete to tie into a sewer line that was already exposed in this room).  OMGosh!  So he didn't want the job and quoted 2-3X what I'm sure it can be done for.

I think if you are looking for a good plumber, have a flexible time schedule, and don't mind being charged an absorbant amount of money (this guy says they even do inspections on hot water heaters even though they are not necessary), this is the plumber for you BUT NOT ME!!!

PS - the young female dispatcher that my wife talk to you, after being handed off by Mike, stated that the plumber would be there after 1PM.

Pros:
Leaking problem is solved. The job seems great.
Arrive as the time scheduled.
Nice and respectful attitudes.
Clean up well after the job is done.
Great customer services. They contacted me very soon for my complaint about overcharging, and are willing to refund almost half ($900) after negotiation. For that I think they are trust-worthy, and will call them again if we need helps.

Cons:
You still need to do some homework to know the reasonable prices before calling them.
Be aware if they CHARGE doubly for an extra trainee coming.

Price:
About $935 (after refund) for replacing one toilet, fixing flange and pipe length (1 plumber and 1 trainee working from 9am-3pm with breaks and transporting materials ).

I'm not sure how to rate them, as I'm still pretty confused about my experience. We had JD out to estimate a whole-house repiping for our small townhome. I was happy with the price, and the estimated two-day job. With three young kids normally at home during the day, it was great to hear that we could be done on a Tue/Wed, and then likely finish the inspection that week.

The technicians were professional and courteous. They were competent, and quite helpful in explaining all aspects of the job. I find something not to like about most technicians. But I really like these folks. And yet, I'm writing this 13 days after the work began, which hopefully will be completed today. After the first two days of work, the job was only half complete. A few days later, another full day of work, followed by a failed inspection (some stuff wasn't complete yet), followed by another week delay.

I understand that estimates can be bad, and that sometimes the work takes longer than they thought for legitimate reasons. I also understand that other jobs are already scheduled after mine, so it can be hard to complete a job when it runs over and you already have other commitments. I spoke with a few customer service reps and the supervisor of the job a few times. They were nice and helpful people, who seemed like folks I want to work with. And yet....13 days have passed for a promised two-day job, and I'm still unsure of when it will be complete (hopefully today). I'm confused as to how I can like all the people I've met with the company, and still not know if I can recommend them. They seem to take a lot of pride in their work and their image, but I may have fallen through some cracks. At this point, I don't feel like I've gotten my money's worth, and it's been pretty frustrating. But I won't rule out working with them in the future. That's a strange and confusing feeling...I know.

EDIT: I got a phone call after this review. The job is complete (same day as this review), and inspection is scheduled for tomorrow. This was a 2-star review, and now it is 4. They made it right, not just by finishing the job quickly, but sincerely apologizing and showing that by taking some off the price. I do believe this is a good company that made a mistake, and I'll be using their annual maintenance plan from this point forward. I feel comfortable recommending them to others.

I called this company last Wednesday because our main water line was leaking and we had shut it off. We had already located the leak and dug down to it ourselves. They promised Thursday, then Friday, then none of their guys could come on the weekend (some were sick, one had a bad back, etc.) Two guys showed up on Monday and estimated the leak repair at $2100. We said no-thank-you-very-much and called another licensed plumbing company. They had someone here within two hours. The total cost was $160 and took twenty minutes. I guess JD Service Now figured that stringing us along for 5 days would make us desperate enough to pay any price.

They had to replace a badly installed and complicated faucet last year and the year before that they diagnosed our hvac that only needed a new thermostat for $400, not the $4,500 according to the other quote I got.
I'm surprised at the low score on Yelp, on Facebook and Google they got very high scores.

Set up appointment for a Friday between 8-11. Company called and said they couldn't keep appointment and asked to reschedule. I understand these kind of things happen. SO we scheduled for a Tuesday and I was promised tech would be at my home no later than 8:30. Tech called at 7:20 said he'd be there in 30 minutes. Called back 15 minutes alter to say he was delayed and he'd be another 30 minutes. After an hour and no service person I called to see what was the delay and was told he'd be arriving in 15-20 minutes. After 30 more minutes and no tech I went  to work. Not a catastrophe but somebody dropped ball on me twice. I've used these folks on other occasions before but probably not again.

What a rip-off. $39 service call to come out and give me a quote that was more than $1,000 more the company I chose to do the job. They also told me I had to replace a pump at my rental house next door. Guess what? The pump needed to be reset and the other company reset it for no charge. It took less than 10 minutes and these cons were going to charge me over $1500.00. STAY AWAY.

The tech arrived on time and was very professional and customer service oriented. The price he quoted me was not his fault.  I had a drain in the bath tub that was slow.....turns out it was just a bunch of hair and when i asked if that would affect the quote he gave me, he replied no.
I also had a leaky bath tub faucet that is seated in the tub.  The quote for these two items with a $57 on line coupon the tech was courteous enough to provide was $450!!!!!!  I feel completely taken advantage of as a woman.  The faucet needed a cartridge.  I took the day off from work to have the repair done so I feel stuck.  I should have said no thank you and just paid the $39 fee.  They have u sign before they do the work so you are bound.  Great work by Matt but the company is preying on a female homeowner.  To make things even worse, the tech didnt have the cartridge so I have to make time in my schedule again for his return tomorrow.

Due to the cold weather, we had a leak of our outdoor irrigation system. Water was spraying everywhere and I had a sinking feeling that it would take a long time to get it fixed.

I called JD Service now and they were very professional. Let me know where things stood with regard to time of arrival and pricing.

Ethan showed up and immediately fixed the problem. He is very friendly and professional. I was very impressed with Ethan.

I highly recommend JD Services and would definitely use them again in the future.

This is a revised posting from a lengthy prior negative review because the JD Plumbing owner reached out to me and personally apologized and refunded my payment for the bad experience I had.  I appreciated his time and desire to make things right, so wanted to update the review.

I rarely take the time to write these types of reviews, but I had a bad experience where a JD Plumbing technician first charged me $455 for a repair that didn't last for more than a few months, and then tried to pressure me into a $4,000 - $10,000 fix after their first fix did not work.  Then I got a second opinion from Alternative Aire, who charged me only $355 and my air conditioner has been working perfectly since, and that was nearly a year ago.

I do appreciate the sincerity and follow through from the owner though who explained that sometimes things happen that are beyond his control, which I can certainly appreciate and understand.  From my conversations with him, I do believe he is an honest business-man and I just hope that future customers don't have the same experience that I had.

The final thing that I will say is that for AC/HVAC work, I do recommend getting a quote from Alternative Aire in Durham.  I have no affiliation with them whatsoever, but they basically 'saved' me from the $4,000 quote that JD Plumbing gave me, so I will always be grateful and recommend business their way.

The service was a simple ceiling fan replacement. They were not able to provide a quote unless they were on site. On providing the quote they said 71  and 2 when the quote was seven HUNDRED and twelve dollars. I feel like an idiot for signing the order without looking carefully but I do not felt they acted in good faith.

We're finishing a major overhaul of our home: kitchen, bathrooms, flooring, the works. Every time we've needed plumbing work done, we can depend on JD Service Now to come out and give us a reasonable quote, and perform the work quickly. I really appreciate that they not only clean up after themselves by removing waste, but they also take measures to prevent any damage to your home, laying tools on cloths, rather than your new tile, or putting down heavy work tarps to protect carpets. They treat my house like its theirs.
Today, Michael Ellington came out and replaced several original fixtures that were starting to leak or be stubborn, and he outdid other folks who we've had here. Not only did he present a good quote, but explained their membership plan, and even got the manager to credit us with three previous service fees that are normally covered by this plan.
When we did a final walk through, he went over all the added benefits (beyond just saving on today's work) so that we can get the most value from it.
I heartily recommend their work, and hope they give Michael an extra atta-boy for his attention to customer needs.

Addendum: Within five minutes of posting this review the folks at JD Plumbing called me to apologize and to refund my money from their recent visit in full. He also told me he would go through all my issues with his job site employees and work to fix the issues I mentioned. That's great business. Thanks.

Let's just go through our checklist:

Did the plumber come next day, find my leak, and fix the problem? YES.

Did they charge me $330 for their services when two subsequent plumbing services said they would have charged $150 for the same repair? YES.

Did the plumber claim I didn't have or had a malfunctioning pressure valve for the water supply on my house then quote me another $250 repair to fix it when the next plumber to come out found the completely functional pressure valve within 5 minutes? YES.

Did the plumber fear monger me about my hot water heater saying it was about to explode and ruin my house and quote me $500-600 repairs when the next plumber said my water heater looked great and quoted me a $200 addition if I wanted to extend the water heater's life? YES.

Did the plumber smoke multiple cigarettes on my property and smell like an ash tray? YES.

Good plumbers are hard to find. These are not good plumbers. Functional in a pinch, but spend half the money elsewhere on someone less sleazy than these up-selling punks.

I had a leaking garbage disposal, and from my research, I deduced I needed a replacement garbage disposal. When I called to ask for a quote, I was told they do not give quotes nor neighborhood prices, but that they could send someone out. I expressed that I already knew what the issue was and that all I needed was a quote. I wanted to prevent the event where they would come and quote me a higher than expected price, and me be left having to pay their trip fee for knowledge I already had. The receptionist stated that it is unfair to them by giving quotes beforehand because people wouldn't give them a chance to do their service (this should have been a red flag that they would quote high). This was the point where she started getting short and impatient with me. I went ahead and scheduled an appointment anyway, thinking if their trip fee is on the cheaper end, so would their service. They also had good reviews. She told me I would get a callback the next morning between 8 and 10 AM. I called a few other places in the meantime for a quote as a point of reference.

The next morning came and I did not receive a call. I had to call them back to ask for a call back, which came at 11 AM, saying they could send someone before 2 PM, which I accepted.

When the technician/repairman came, he quoted me a price that blew the other quotes I had out of the water. Thus, I was left with a super high quote and a charge for a trip fee. When I did quick calculation, it was cheaper for me to pay the trip fee and go with someone else. This was the exact situation I wanted to avoid. The technician was patient and understanding, and asked for a few minutes to speak with his manager to see if a price match was possible. They were able to apply a small discount, but it still wasn't enough. I decided that I would go ahead and just buy the part myself to save myself some more money, but still use their service, because I was on a tight schedule. The technician was nice enough to give me the time to go out and buy the part while he took his lunch break.

Positives:
Cheaper end of trip fees if you need a diagnostic.
Great customer service from technician/repairman.
Short wait for the technician to come by.

Negatives:
Not transparent at all on their pricing.
Higher prices compared to local plumbers.
Poor customer service from the receptionist.
Fell through on their promise to call me the next morning to schedule an appointment.

1/5/18 update: A manager left a voicemail while I was out of town (which may have been procced by the comment below) but gave an invalid return call number.

Had the opportunity to use JD Service Now on several occasions over the years on property that my business manages. My experience with them has always been good.  Joey and Michael replaced a faulty thermostat this week.  They were friendly, efficient and reasonable,  even checking the heat exchanger outside, showing me how much it needed a thorough cleaning, a suggestion I passed on to my client who will get it done when back this spring. Most HVAC companies, companies in general, have mixed reviews,  but I have always had a speedy response from this firm,  with nothing but excellent service.

I used them once to take care of a replacement of a water heater, thought the price was high. Then my wife signed up for a yearly service agreement at $175 for them to come out and check the systems for a year. I feel their pricing is over the top and too much for what they do. Every time they come to look at something they give an estimate that out of this world.
I had them give an estimate for a repair they came in at over $800, thought it was too high, had my regular plumber do the same repair for around $350 will not be using in the future.

Told me they would be at my house at 3pm so I took off work to be there. Said they were also going to send me an email to confirm my appointment, which I made yesterday. Did they do either??  NO. It's 5pm and no sign though WHEN I CALLED THEM they said they would be here shortly... MORE THAN AN HOUR AGO.

It is nice that this company responds to all negative reviews, however their PR attempt is purely form over function and far from genuine. You can now add that they are DISHONEST to go along with the other displeasures. No one ever reached out to me nor did I get my refunded Fee. Like I said in the original review... Avoid JD Service and find another Service Company!

I don't know why so many people gave them good ratings.
Believing that JD will be timely and professional because of those reviews, I had an appointment with them which they set 2-4pm window. I thought that meant that they will arrive at 2pm for potential work that can last for 2 hours. No. it meant that technician can arrive any time between. Sadly, no technician showed up for the time. I was offered to move the date, but I just can't move it. My real estate agent was waiting with me for 2 hours and nobody showed up.
very disappointed and do not be fooled by window. Ask them what it means clearly. Yet, they are not even sure how long it would take for the technician to get here... What a way to waste my Friday...

We can't say enough good about Matt our technician. He was super polite, explained everything at every point, and solved our problem. The company was very good about communicating. We would not hesitate to call them again for a plumbing emergency or even regular work.

Temperatures had been below freezing and one of our pipes was leaking.  Just a few days before we called another plumbing service out.  We got charged $300 to replace fittings on a toilet.  Turns out that was not the issue because it happened again.  This time called JD Service Now.  They sent David out the night of the snow storm.  He figured out what was going on.  Found the back up and what was causing it.  He cleared it and got our water back on.  He was great.  David actually fixed the problem and it cost half as much as one of the companies on here rated 5 stars.  Highly recommend.

Needing a replacement for a rusted out water heater I scoured reviews from Yelp and other sites to help find competent and professional plumbing services in the Triangle. So many of the reviews were by people with 1, 2, or 3 reviews and I filtered those out because I tend to not trust them much. J D Service came up as one of the four companies I called for a quote. One I had used for HVAC service, Rapid Repair,  came out the next day and gave me a quote. One, Durham Plumbing, I filled out the request form on their websites and never heard back. JD I called and talked for a while with a rep who gave me a day they would be out (not a window of time, so much for respect for the value of my time) and said the service person would call a bit prior to coming by. The worker did call on the specified day to say he'd be there within a 15 minute time frame and then,.... never showed. No call, no email, no showing up with apologies. Nothing at all.

UPDATE: Tony was dispatched tonight around 6pm, while it was much later than I was led to believe, I was glad that it was Tony- he did the install so he knew the system and he is great.  He did a great job.  I got a call from Andy (in the customer service dept?) later this evening apologizing for the poor communication issue.  I appreciate the call, but would have appreciated good communication the first time around.  All in all- I am mixed on them-- I think that the actual service was great and the plumber was excellent, super friendly and honest.  The customer service needs work and the price still feels very high.
-----

This could have been a 5 star review but JD Service Now dropped the ball repeatedly, with some pretty basic customer service failures. I called in one evening to have someone out to fix or replace my water pressure tank. They answered right away and were helpful. They told me that someone would call the next morning with an idea of where I was on the schedule.  That all sounded fine.

The next morning, no one called me so I had to call in to find out when to expect someone. They best that they could tell me was that all their technicians were out on calls and I would be next. They would give me a 30-60 minute heads up.  Later that day, I was called and Tony came out. He knew his stuff and was nice. All that said, I was shocked at the high cost. Tony was low pressure on the sale, which I appreciated and given his confidence in doing the job right and presence (that is to say, he was there,) I decided to green light it.

Tony was quick and clean in his work and was very nice to my 3 year old who had a bunch of questions for him. After Tony left, my wife and I both noticed that the water pressure throughout the house was lower than before. I called JD and they said that someone could come out the next day, they'd call me between 8 & 10 letting me know.  At 10:15 this morning, I had to call them again as once again, no one called me. The dispatch seemed surprised that I was  calling  Why say that you will call when that doesn't seem to be part of your operating procedure. Once again I was told that all tech were out one other jobs and that I would be given a 30-60 minute heads up. It is now 3:30 and I have heard nothing.

It may seem small, but as I see it:
-they didn't call to tell me when I was scheduled the first morning
-their rates were high
-I was sold on a protection plan that, while it paid for itself via a 10% job discount, seems to yield no benefit of return service,
-I have less water pressure,
-no one called me back again
-it appears unlikely that someone will come out today.

As a customer, it feels like I  and my time are not being respected.  I opted to pay a high rate because of the perceived confidence and convenience. Now I am spending that same amount of time calling them back, trying to get someone back out.

I should note, that this is not a knock on Tony.  I believe that he is very knowledgeable and capable.

We had JD Service Now over yesterday to help us figure out why our water wasn't getting hot enough to fill the garden tub in our new home. John, the sales manager, was AMAZING at explaining all of our options. He understood that we weren't able to replace the water heater now (what eventually needs to happen) and helped us choose a temporary fix that made the most sense. The two technicians were friendly and did solid work. They stayed until nearly 7pm on a Friday (!) just to get the job done. We signed up for an annual membership because we were so pleased with the service.

Watch out. These guys have messed up servicing my tankless hot water heater and permanently etched my basement floor with their acidic cleaning solution. They spilled it over 50 sq ft. Have tried 4 times to clean it including a company with hot, high pressure washing. The result is my permanently etched and discolored basement floor.

David and Chris did great work on our house. We had plumbing issues. They were kind and had great work ethics! Our family was impressed by the way they solved the issue and communicated with us.

The price point was better than competitors and they took initiative to fix visible problems on the spot, instead of another company that we initially had come out to evaluate the problem. The other company charged a lot of money to just say there was a problem.

We put in a request for sevice for a leak, and did not get service call until two days later. Was told the time window would be between 11:00 and 2:00, but did not show up until 2:45 and we had to call them. Service person was very nice, but the price that was quoted was very high. For a job that normaly ranges from $220 - $280 we were told it would cost $400! We paid the service call fee but did not let them fix the problem, we are looking for another estimate.

We have used JD Service Now to fix an issue with our heating. In honesty, the first visit was a complete waste of time because the technician basically said that he could not recreate the problem (it was starting to warm up and issue only occurred during cold weather). We were charged for the troubleshooting even though the technician wasn't able to help.

However, the next technician who came to our house about a year later was much more knowledgeable. They applied a credit for the last service visit since we were having the same issue. The technician identified the problem and fixed it (there was a buildup of some residue that was clogging condensation pipes). The problem happened again and the same technician fixed the issue on another visit. He didn't think that the problem would happen again but we'll see. I'm not thrilled that it took three visits to fix but at least they were easy to work with.

The company seems very well organized and scheduling appointments is simple and reliable. This is a very welcome relief after dealing with other home service companies that were far more challenging to work with.

If I could give negative stars I would.  We moved into our home and I had JD come out to look at the water system.  They recommended I replace it and came and installed.  AFTER the installation my water smelled bad, was muddy and I was getting rust stains.  They came out several times and told me the pipes needed time to flush, then it was my hot water heater and needed to replace it.  I called another company who came out and told me the wrong system had been installed, it was not installed properly, water was coming into house direct from well and the price I paid was more than double what they quoted to me!  They installed a new system and my water is clear, no smell and no rust.

The manager that called me back from JD told me I live in the country and this is normal especial after it rains.  Nothing that can be done about it.  I have lived in the country for most of my adult life, never had these issues, not normal!  Would not recommend using JD.

I cannot believe what I just experienced with this company. Never before have I seen or experienced anything like this from any type of service company. I had small leak between the tank and base in one toilet and needed the interior guts changed out in another. I was paired with this company through Home Adviser.  When the tech showed up, I showed him the problems and he came back after about 10 minutes with a quote. To change a interior and replace 4 bolts on a toilet.....$534. To change the interior on both toilets, over $800. When I acted surprised and told him that was too much, he became very rude and argumentative. He asked me if I was one of those people who think plumbers should charge $20 an hour' and that plumbers are why we don't live in a 3rd world country. I asked him how long the job would take and he said an hour and a half and about $30 in parts. I'm all for making a good living and being successful, but that is a little ridiculous. Just my 2 cents!!!!!

I called customer service on a Friday afternoon after our washer wasn't working in our new house. Susan came at 9 am on Monday and sorted out the problem in less than 3 hours. If I had wanted to, I could have had someone there Friday evening.
Susan was excellent! She was very knowledgeable, and gave us several different pricing options. She addressed all my concerns, and was very efficient. I would definitely recommend this company again. I don't know if the price was fair or not since I don't have anything to compare it to, but she fixed it in two hours and I can't complain!

I called this morning due to AC problems not even an hour later Justin showed up , very professional, detailed all the things that were wrong , and gave us financial options. Because we are 1st time homeowners we didn't know what to expect and weren't prepared for the expense. We called another company who were personal friends of friends, that fixed it for  almost nothing! We decided to wait another year (Lord willing) to get a new unit. Although we couldn't give JD Plumbing any business today, we will definitely look forward to them when the system needs replaced (as it is old but should make it through the summer), and will definitely recommend them to everyone else who needs a new cooling system.

They agreed to give me $25 discount. They said the price I googled is not accurate. Maybe that is the case. I have never done any plumbing before and couldn't compare with any real price.

Price is not reasonable. Replacing a kitchen faucet charged me $276. I bought the facet myself. I googled online saying price range from $114 to $189. So I payed much more than the normal range. Also strange is that , the technician saying it is leaking because of the water pressure and chlorine is high, which obviously is not the case. Chlorine is controlled by the city and water pressure is so low I even considered adjust it up because upstairs shower is not comfortable at all.

The main service offered here seems to avoiding giving any service. It seems to always take number of calls and visits to their web chat to get them to schedule a service call. Maybe it's because I bought a service contract from them and they already have all the money they're going to get from me? I don't know. What I do know is that I bought a new HVAC unit from them a few months ago with a service contract. They canceled the first scheduled service call because they were busy and they told me it wasn't needed. This morning I woke to non working unit and I can't get them to even schedule anyone to look at it despite two chats and three calls.
Good luck if you have to deal with them.

Update July 2.
This morning I had an appointment to the first maintenance that they said wasn't needed last time and you'll never guess what happened! It's hard to believe, after all the phone calls to service managers and drama last time including an offer of dinner for my wife and I anywhere in town (which we turned down) and after all I told them I wanted was what I paid for, that they keep their appointments, they just blew off my appointment without a photo call because it's hot out and they're busy.
If you want apologies this your place! If you want anything else don't call this joke of business.
Update July 2 part 2 9:39

The comments below from Cheryl at JD referring to conversion resolving matters are a lie. I still don't know when I can expect the regular maintenance service I have already paid for.

I've used them 3 times now- plumbing, heating and AC, and every time I've been impressed. The technicians are clean and professional.  Arrived early for today's service.

They haven't yet told me anything was wrong with my systems that I wasn't at least generally aware of, so I'm pretty sure they're not just trying to sell me stuff I don't need.  This time, the tech even took pictures of the back of the furnace (in a part of the crawl space I didn't want to go to) so I could see the coil.  I was really happy about that - rather than just saying The coil is really dirty, I was able to see for myself.

Will definitely use them again!

Needed a new water heater so they were very nice and sent a tech over right away.  He was on time, pleasant, and professional.  The issue is the quote amount.  They quoted me $2164+ to supply and install a low end Rheem unit that retails for $518 at Home Depot. That is over $1600 to install the unit...then they tacked on $348 for 4 hours (at $87/hr) for an Apprentice. Grand total $2500+ PLUS TAX.  The second quote was even more because they were going to charge and additional $860 for a Water Heater Scale and Sediment Reduction unit.  That estimate rolled in at over $3600 for a low end Rheem 50 gallon natural gas water heater.  As I said the tech was very nice but if you're not paying attention, you'll be paying way too much.  BTW - went with a company that was over $1100 less than JD's lowest quote.

On the whole I was happy with JD Service.  Their staff was courteous and they arrived on time and took care of my problem.  It took three passes to get my plumbing issue resolved.  The first trip out we found out we needed a new faucet but we didn't have one on hand because we didn't know we needed one.  The second try there was an issue with the faucet we got to replace our bad one.  Somehow a part was missing from a sealed box.  On the third pass they were able to get my faucet installed.  I was not terrifically very happy with the way the service manager handled double billing me on trip charges.  He said that since they had to come out a twice we weren't due a refund on the second trip charge for the same service.  In the end it didn't really matter since I got both trip charges applied to my bill.

This company professes to be all about service but what they are all about is coming in fast, doing a shoddy job, and then really dragging their feet after problems and failed inspections. After dealing with them for 7 months after a replaced water heater and HVAC system, I now have to hire a different company to fix the problems they would or could not fix.

Update: The owner saw this review and personally came to my house and fixed the problem. He is excellent both in terms of customer service and technical knowledge. If only he could clone himself.

We've worked with JD Services for several years now, and every time has been a great experience.  This time, Tony came out to do a routine service on our new(-ish) heat pump.  He was right on time, friendly, courteous, and was happy to give us some tips on helping the unit operate at its most efficient, despite coming outside regular hours.  He did the job quickly, but very thoroughly, and really demonstrated that he had a genuine desire to help us and do his best work.  Couldn't say enough positives for this company and John, the owner.  You set the tone, and your employees represent you very well.  Thank you for the excellent service!

Very nice and professional, however their mindset is certainly corporate and making money is of utmost concern. They lacked in explanations giving you options of how much to spend rather than an overview of the situation. In a situation such as your AC going out or your plumbing malfunctioning you are often overwhelmed and feel cornered. I think they were very friendly and cordial, but buyer beware.... get a second opinion.

I have had work done by both the HVAC team and the plumbing team with JD Plumbing, Heating & Air and have been nothing but pleased!  The efficiency, professionalism, high quality customer service and the personalized touch that comes with the technicians can't be beat.  I will happily continue to call them with any needs I have. I've worked with Mike, James, David, Joe, and Pete and I must say, I couldn't have asked for better techs.  In addition to that, I'm the kind of person who chats with anyone in my home doing work, not to distract them, but I just figure if they're going to be there for a while I might as well chat, and every one of them have been super friendly and personable as well.  I will certainly continue to recommend this company!  Oh and I forgot to mention, I called around and got quotes on work I needed to get done and every time, JD Plumbing had the most reasonable prices, who could ask for more considering the quality of the work?

Don't actually expect service from this company. We bought an expensive HVAC unit from them late last year, including a service contract. Now that they have our money, they refuse to honor that contract. After rescheduling a routine maintenance serveral times and then canceling it and telling us we didn't need it, our brand new unit is not working and we can't even get a service call scheduled! Of course if they had done the routine maintenance like they were suppose to this probably wouldn't have happened. I am NOT impressed with this company at all. Maybe they are OK with fixing a leaky faucet, but for big ticket items, you will be ignored once they take all your cash.

JD Service NEVER AGAIN!

I'm rewriting my review because things have changed since my initial 5-star review. That one was actually based on a plumbing consult we had which was a good experience, but JD's didn't do that work because we were waiting on water sample results to come back. In hindsight, THANK GOODNESS FOR THAT!

They quoted us $14K to replace 2 toilets and 2 tub diverters, and install a hot water heater w/ a tank booster, a water conditioning system, a sediment filter, and a whole-house water filtration system. We're first-time homeowners and this was a HUGE learning mistake that you are about to read... and I'm finally getting around to sharing this review although this experience occurred in December 2020.

After our positive plumbing consult, we figured we'd buy their annual membership program--it's $100/year and they can also handle our HVAC maintenance too! It seemed like a good deal; the membership includes an HVAC inspection which is the main reason we signed up for it. We wanted someone to do some maintenance on our existing 20 year-old HVAC system, which was running fine.

The rep who came out to our house to perform the check on our system clearly had other plans. He looked it over and explained that it had all sorts of problems. He used predatory sales tactics to manipulate us despite giving us 3 options to choose from: 1) keep our old system, 2) buy a new system, and the 3rd option I don't remember... we never got an email with the 3 HVAC options--which they did send for the plumbing quote.

The sales guy said it wouldn't make sense to keep our existing system because it would probably start to have issues after replacing some of the components and that our electrical panel was a fire hazard and that it could catch fire at any moment. We later found out from their contracted electrician that there were actually no issues with the panel and there was virtually no evidence that it could catch fire.

The rep pressured us into buying a new HVAC system on the spot by saying that there was only 1 left in stock and they could install it tomorrow at 8AM. OF COURSE they want to install it ASAP--why would they want new homeowners to have time to consider other options? He also talked us out of using our home warranty, which would've covered a replacement if our existing system actually died. We could have gotten many more years out of our old HVAC, but instead we ended up with a brand-new Carrier dual-fuel system that cost us $14,300! After getting other quotes we found out that we overpaid by several thousand dollars. Dual-fuel? More like dual-fools, and we definitely got fooled!

Once we realized our mistake, we complained about the predatory sales tactics and outrageous prices and JD's offered to give us $500 back. However, we declined their offer because we wanted to seek legal help to see if we could recoup a bit more of what we overpaid. We didn't end up pursuing it and decided instead to just let it all go. But we wanted to leave this review so others can avoid having the same experience.

If you want to be manipulated and ripped off, call this company. Cue the gaslighting responses from them that'll likely result from me leaving this review. They love to act like they never did anything wrong at all. They call it buyer's remorse but they know what they're doing... someone who previously worked for them (we met them after JD's had already installed our new HVAC system) told us that their technicians take a training class where they learn to manipulate and up-sell customers to buy more than they need.

I will say JD's did good work and we haven't had any issues with the installation so far. Now we know to get at least 3 quotes before committing to anything. This was an expensive lesson, but at least we know now! If you're not concerned with overpaying for service then JD's might be a good option for you. But if you want a fair price, shop around and get a few more quotes. There's most likely a much better deal somewhere else.

They gave me a timeframe of 10-12 and no one showed I called and they said it would be later in the day when they finished the 1st calls of the day so I cancelled around 2pm so I could go to work. I rescheduled and they called around 8:30 to say someone would call 30mins to an hour before the plumber arrives I waited 7 hours and left for work and told them to forget it when they finally called. I never had a company that didn't have timeframes this has been a huge waste of my time.

I had a wonderful experience with JD Service Now this Spring! Prompted by a Duke home energy audit, I shopped around quite a bit before settling on a company to replace my air conditioner and furnace (both were still functional, but original to my home, so 31 years old!). Chris Edwards, the HVAC Manager who came to my home was knowledgeable, kind, and so patient. Before he came I got an emailed bio so his face would be familiar and I'd know a bit of his background. He explained so many things to me- and I badgered him with questions! Since I'd met with so many other vendors I knew enough to question why he was suggesting certain things and not others, and he patiently explained and educated me. They were very competitive, as far as price, and kindly changed my quote a few times based on things I changed my mind about.

Less than 2 weeks later, Neil Faircloth and Chris (a different Chris) came and got started on the install. I got the same bio emailed to me for Neil, which was such a nice touch! We were told that the install would probably take a day and a half. That was fine with me- they're doing a specialized job that I know nothing about! They were so friendly and very professional. At various points they coordinated a plumber to come out and check something (that turned out to be a false alarm, thank goodness!) and electricians (for the wiring involved with installing a new HVAC system). At no point did I doubt the knowledge, judgement and level of skill that all of these professionals exhibited. The job ended up taking two and a half days due to the size of our crawlspace and the fact that we were relocating the furnace there from another location. They kept us in the loop every step of the way and apologized many times for the delay- once again, this didn't bother me in the slightest! We were only without heat for one night, but they kindly lent us excellent space heaters and we weren't at all uncomfortable.

Chris Edwards handled the financing for us, explaining the various options. He was very responsive to emails (and once again, I asked LOTS of questions!). He also filed for the Duke Energy rebates we were eligible for, and helped me file for the PSNC Energy rebate.

Replacing an HVAC system is not an easy decision to make, nor is it a fun thing to deal with as a homeowner. Large home improvements are often stressful, expensive, and you can sometimes be left wondering if you made the right decision for your home and your bank account. However, in this case, JD Service Now never had me doubting I'd made the right choice. I feel relieved now that I've taken care of something that was weighing on my mind since we bought our house 7 years ago. I would wholeheartedly recommend this company to anyone.

Great experience from origin to conclusion! Kim was quite courteous in the original phone call. She kept in touch to update me when the tech was available and on his way. Noah was a great tech! He arrived on time. He had all the COVID protections in place. He was friendly and professional. He took the time to explain everything he was looking at and doing. His diagnostic was quite thorough. He presented the options for repair and the cost of each, told me their effectiveness, but didn't try to sell me on a bunch of things I didn't really need. My system is 14 years old and could use some more parts, but in the end I settled on just topping off the refrigerant and changing the air filter (I already had the filter) rather than spend a lot to repair a unit with a limited lifespan left. The system works fine now, and for a couple more years I hope, and I'm not out a bunch of money I wasn't hoping to spend unexpectedly.

Had JD Now come in due to broken AC. They diagnosed the problem, ordered the part, and took care of things (at over $4000), all seemed great.

48 hours later it stopped working, had them come back out, they did some work and couldn't find any issues and got the system seemingly working again. 72 hours later got home from work today and once again it has stopped working.

That's twice since it was installed last Tuesday that the AC has stopped working.......doesn't seem like money well spent at this point.

The actual employees and company have been extremely professional and courteous this whole time but that doesn't account for the fact that one week later and $4000+ spent and we still don't have a functioning AC

TLDR: To replace a simple, single p-trap, I was charged $176.90.  So they hook you with the $80 visit fee, and then wildly overcharge you if it turns out to be something simple and easy.

They refused to provide a precise time (just 12 hour window) and cancelled on me the first day.  Then, the second day, when they finally did show up, they charged a $80 fee which is refundable against the repair charge if you pay them to do work on your house.  Though I asked multiple times, they refused to quote any prices ahead of their visit, even for a simple 5-minute repair.  It turned out to be a 2 minute diagnosis and a 5-minute repair but, as I feared, their price quote was wildly inflated.  $180 for 7 minutes spent at the house and maybe 10 total minutes driving (at their supreme convenience) comes out to $635 an hour.  Nice!  They must be raking in the bucks (off your back)!!

Josh, as a technician, was very professional and he is not at fault. They diagnosed my bad thermostat wire and charged me $195 for diagnosing without any work and many options. To fix the thermostat wire, I was quoted $935!! Also 2 pounds of R22, clean the blower unit, thermo wire and clean oxidized pipes for $2235! How is it there are such stellar ratings? I used google and found other estimates with a flat $100 diagnostic fee and there was quite a disparity between the work needed completed.

To make matters worse, the sales department called me and said there are other options to replace the unit. I asked how often should ac units be replaced and the rep told me 8-12 years... I was furious and told Josh I would no longer do business with JD services.

I am a home owner on a budget and this is just unacceptable. I think business become corporate machine needing to pay overhead and costs at the expense of people just trying to earn a living and surviving.

Very few times in life have I felt taken advantage of and this was definitely one of them. Choose wisely because there are many more options out there.

I don't understand all of the good reviews. My experience is MUCH different. They arrived on time, alright, BUT it took less that 5 minutes (not exagerating!) to fix the disposal. (I don't remember seeing any tools!!) They grabbed the check and were gone! Two weeks later the disposal was again not working and the sink won't drain.

It's been months since this happened but I can say that if they removed that piece of metal (the answer I got when I asked what the issue was... Not a SPOON or FORK) they must have taken it with them (or dropped it back in) because I never saw it. I was ripped off (and I'm still bitter! LOL!)

Discovered a leak under the kitchen sink and called. On the upside, they did send someone same day. I was given an estimate which I signed. The lady plumber they'd sent couldn't loosen what she needed to. Kept thinking a burly man might be dispatched. Nope. Was told she could just leave at that point for a mere $250 ~ or she could cut off my perfectly-functioning garbage disposal and install a different one. Was given a new estimate. Didn't even know that kind of thing could happen mid-stream. So, for almost $600, the leaky sink in my 4.5-yr-old home was fixed. To say that I'm on a limited income pretty much misses the point. That was a huge percentage of income and I felt super unhappy with the experience. Would not recommend; would not use again.

Our plumber, Aaron, was very knowledgeable, professional and friendly. We wanted to see a couple different options in terms of extent of repair or replacement and he gave us several options and explained the differences, answering several questions we had. We would contact this company again if another plumbing problem arises.

I purchased a home with a 12 month old HVAC sold and installed by JD Service Now. The unit stopped cooling a month later. The JD Service Now tech told us it would cost $211 to diagnose the problem, we agreed and was then told it was the coil, would take a month to get one as they were on back order, that we should not use the unit until it was fixed and would cost us $1400. We asked about the warranty and were told it was not covered. We got a second opinion, was told there was nothing wrong with the coil and was fixed for $250 total, no charge to diagnose the issue. I tried calling for 3 days, left voicemail messages each time that only stated that I would like to discuss the problem with my HVAC and never received a call back. One of the worst experiences I've ever encountered working with a company. AVOID!!!

Unbelievably rude over the phone, and refused to service our house because my wife left a negative review in 2015. Avoid this shady business.
