Customer service was good and I don't doubt the electricians were knowledgeable, but the follow up and end result were unacceptable.
We hired Altman Electric twice (I didn't know it was the same company, so partly my fault) to look at two faulty custom fixtures in our apartment. I have no knowledge of anything electrical except how to use the switch, and did not want to mess with anything myself. Service is expensive, and for some odd reason I thought that would guarantee the issues would be fixed. $150 for each hour of work required, $30+ for transportation costs, and whatever additional costs would be incurred by ordering parts and any additional labor.
The first time, the electrician came in, took a look at our fixtures for about 5 minutes, and told us we had to get a new transformer. Having had zero experience dealing with electricians, I thought this was normal, paid the man, and was left wondering what had happened. I know nothing about transformers. So we just didn't do anything.
The second time, about two weeks ago, we finally decided to get our lights fixed, and unknowningly called the same company. The electrician, Juan, came in and dismantled our fixtures. He said the same thing as the first guy. I asked him if he could arrange to get the necessary parts since I didn't know where to begin, and he said he would look into it, and I sent him off with the parts that needed to be replaced.
I called a week later and spoke with someone very nice from customer service who said that Juan's supervisor had said that there was nothing they could do and that I would have to purchase brand new fixtures. At this point, I just want the fixture parts back and I never wanted to deal with this company again. I've paid them $400 to come in for 10 minutes and literally just look at my broken light fixtures, without any other action on their part to make anything work.
I went to a local electrical supply company, which ended up being a much better experience. I took in the fixture, explained there was a transformer issue, and they tested out a new transformer on the spot and confirmed that it was compatible. I paid $20, the service was very friendly and tolerant of my ignorance.
