When it comes to plumbers not many people are excited to deal with them, Myself on the other hand have had the pleasure of working with Irwin Friedman & Son multiple times on various projects and it's as simple as this, THEY ARE THE BEST IN BUSINESS. Twice I have called them was to do gas work at one of my concrete production facilities in Queens, they came and worked closely with Con-Edison to resolve all of my gas leaks and assisted in attaining the proper permits to do so. I called and they showed up an hour later, they literally dropped everything and came running to assist me. When most people hear Con-Ed is involved they go running the opposite way, Jay and Brandon took on these projects head first with out blinking an eye. The second time I dealt with them was on a much smaller level, another gas leak, however this time at my home. Jay and Brandon came running AGAIN and made sure everything was repaired and tested properly. Jay and Brandon along with their team of trained professionals go above and beyond the call of duty no matter how big or small the job is. I would recommend them to anyone and everyone, however their name and company history speaks for itself, not many companies have been in business for almost 100 years. Thanks for everything Jay and Brandon, I look forward to working together for many years to come.

I had a gas leak in my stove and I was able to get an appointment pretty quickly. Brandon came and repaired the leak. He was efficient and reliable. He came back to replace the diverter in my bathtub. He was on time and everything was done in 30 minutes. Highly recommend them for all your plumbing needs. They are a family owned business and very knowledgeable.

These plumbers are not just plumbers, they are nice people. I have used them for huge factory installations, and tiny leak problems created by others Every time they come, they are prompt, work clean, and courteous. Ive had emergencies, and plenty of non emergencies. They handle them both appropriately. I never met Irwin, but Jay (father) and Brandon (son) make a terrific team!

We've had a ton of plumbing issues in our apartment and Irwin Friedman & Son have fixed them all without an issue. They have fixed our tub, a kitchen faucet, a heating pipe leak and bleed our heating system. The best part is they PICK UP THE PHONE and when they say they are going to be there, they show up on time. I've dealt with 4 different plumbers at IF&S and all of them have been super friendly and nice.

We noticed a leak in our kitchen and called them after hours, they picked up the phone and were here in 20 minutes. I was shocked. I can't recommend these guys enough.

I actually never right reviews, but Brandon is really great. He is so responsive (texts directly with you whenever!), so reliable (actually even arrived a bit early one of the times), and you don't feel like someone is hustling you. He even told me to pay the invoice after I ran my dishwasher myself. You feel like you've known eachother forever.

My boiler had a long standing series of issues. Made a call hellbent on getting a new boiler to solve all my problems. Brandon walked me through why it may be better to keep what I have and save money.

The guys came out did a full inspection, did a full inspection and talked me through all the things wrong and how to correct them. After they finished they cleaned up the boiler room and tested every single radiator in the house to make sure the system was working. This helped identify one issue that I didn't even know about and the corrected it.

Needless to say - this was a call worth making and I would call Friedman back at any time and also recommend them.

After the job was done, they called back a few days later to make sure everything was still working fine and no issues were noticed with the system.

I could write a longer review, but why? Our contractor, who has been in the business for 40+ years and who started as plumber's helper, called us over after the plumbing for the kitchen sink was done. See this? This is a Picasso.

For our full, 3-storey gut reno, the pricing was mid-range. As per our contractor, the work is as good, if not better, than the higher-priced plumbers.

I don't know how they are for small plumbing jobs, but based on my experience, would trust them 100%. I DO know how they are for large, reno jobs. Picasso.

During a rain storm my basement bathroom tub started filling up with dark water. Called these guys and they did come out same night and charged what they said which was an emergency snaking of the sewer line for $750. The plumber who came out said that would fix it and said there was a 30 day warranty. Gave him a tip. 32 days later hurricane Henri hit and our basement flooded. I called Brandon to try to honor their warranty since how am I supposed to know when another storm would hit and clearly snaking didn't fix the issue. I even asked if a plumber would just come out and camera inspect the pipe and I would pay the cost. He said he'd call me back and never did. I found another plumber who figured out that my sump pump was broken. Basically snaking the line did nothing. If your plumber had inspected everything and not jump to snaking the line, it would've saved me $10k in repairing my basement.

Called ~9am and chatted with very pleasant owner, Mr. Friedman. Was assured someone would come by in the afternoon and crew arrived by 2:30pm, with a 30-minute warning. Very courteous, professional guys who were very thorough, resolved the problem and triple-checked their work. This is a local, family-owned business.
Ye renters who have not had to deal with plumbing issues be warned - plumbing is expensive! Do not misuse your toilets thinking oh whatever, you will pay for your mistakes later. 10/10 would call work with Friedman Irwin & Son again.

Our toilet was backed up on a Friday afternoon and with the old, problematic plumbing system in our home we new we needed serious help. The plumber arrived in about an hour and he was excellent but it turns out we needed a more intense snake that would go through the main sewer connection. The second plumber came with the snake and dealt with a design flaw in our plumbing system that we were told couldn't be fixed. He was able to finally snake our drain properly for the first time and our plumbing has been great ever since. They were a very professional, knowledgeable team and I will definitely call them again for any future plumbing needs!

These guys are terrific. This is the third time I used them and I've been happy every time. The first time they installed a number of radiators in my old apartment. Two years ago the repaired a kitchen leak.

This time I had an old hot water heater that was on it's last legs and leaking downstairs to a neighbor's apartment. They were quickly responsive on the phone and sent a team that same day to drain the old heater and stop the leak. The next morning they arrived and efficiently installed the new heater. It works great.

Jay and Brandon were absolutely amazing with their professionalism and response time, right from when I initially reached out all the way till the job was complete. Not only was this all done in the days leading up to Thanksgiving but they were also very accommodating with all the rules my building has regarding working with contractors, especially during COVID.

Their team installed our new faucet quickly and smoothly. Would highly recommend this guys and will definitely be using them again.

I've contacted these guys twice and they could have been more professional in both circumstances. First, was a broken shower handle and when they arrived they insisted they would have to leave and drive around multiple boroughs at $150/hr to search in person for the part (starting in the Bronx, I'm in Williamsburg). I had to call the owner and spend time explaining that you can use the internet to find parts much quicker. The project took a month or so w/ multiple visits to ultimately fix which is understandable. I paid in person, got receipt, etc. Then I received a somewhat unpleasant collection call a couple months later saying they needed their money. When I told the owner it was paid in person, he said he would didn't think so but would check and I never heard back.

Yesterday, there was a pretty serious flood in the apartment upstairs that flooded my bathroom. The upstairs guy and I tried these folks again, they were supposed to come between 2 and 4 yesterday, then today at 9am and never showed.

The other reviews sound great and I'm assuming other people had positive experiences, wish I could say the same.

Super accommodating, onsite in a few hours and SUPERB JOB!

This is a fantastic group of plumbers and a wonderful group to work with. Superior work and really great people to work with.

I contacted them and within hours, they had my building strict insurance requirements met, they and were onsite doing work... I was in such a pinch with a newly constructed kitchen. We had a complicated setup, and they had everything up and running in our kitchen in a few hours. The owner, Jay, called me a few times to check in and see that everything was running well and to confirm the schedule. The office manager Howard was super friendly and helpful. The two technicians that came onsite were VERY professional, friendly and did fantastic work.

I've used three plumbers in Williamsburg, based upon reviews from Yelp and Google.

Of those three, Irwin Friedman's was the best and they are now my go to plumber. They checked all the boxes:

Price: They fixed and replaced a leaky pipe for less than another charged me to unclog a drain.

Speed: I would call them and they'd be there the next morning.

Quality: This is the most important. They fixed problems that I didn't think were fixable. Pipes, clogs, they took care of those, which I would expect. But, once, I had standing water in the dishwasher. He took the dishwasher out, and found a piece of plastic in the motor. Took that out, and it worked like a charm! Even he was surprised that they could fix it.

Be careful. They do shoddy work. And then don't stand by it. They left me high and dry! We had an odor & leakage from toilet. After doing some work the odor still persisted. They explained it away as external odor. I made the mistake of trusting they knew what they were talking about. Sure enough the odor remained and the leaking continued. When we called they said to send some photos. Really? You do shoddy work and then insult the customer by asking for proof? Second call they said they were out of town and for us to call back on a certain day. Astonishing! When you do shoddy work you expect customers to chase you down? Finally the day for which it was convenient for them to take a call came. Left voice mail. It's been almost a week now and ..... crickets. They do in fact run away from their own shoddy work! Avoid if you want a professional, courteous and most importantly quality repair.

I was very pleased with how quickly they were able to come to my home today - about two hours after I called to make an appointment. When it comes to water issues, time is always of the essence and I have never had a plumber show up so quickly.
The plumbers were extremely professional and friendly and fixed my broken sump pump in less than thirty minutes. They were also able to explain to me exactly what the issue was. I would be glad to use Irwin Friedman & Sons any time I need a plumber from here on out.

Super friendly. They had understaff issues the day I had an appointment, but they rectified the situation right away and had someone come out asap. I was pet sitting for the apt owner's, and they needed their sink faucet replaced and bath tub re-caulked. After he was done he cleaned everything up and took down a the trash.

When the apt owners saw the sink, they were super pleased that he fixed the water pressure without me even asking him. However, they noticed that the handle was on the wrong side. Whoops, also my fault for not catching that.

I called them up and scheduled a time for them to come back. They showed up on time and quickly fixed the handle free of charge. They were also great with the dog that lives there :). Support this family owned business. The customer service is great, and their prices are decent.

This licensed plumbing company was professional, competent and friendly. They cut into the walls behind a washer/dryer to secure loose pipes that had been banging around like crazy when the washing machine was in use. They also added water hammer arrestors behind the wall. The job completed in the time frame given and at their hourly rate. We are satisfied with the work.

My shower dripped.

I called FI&S on Tuesday and was told I'd be called back with an appointment time. I wasn't.
I called again on Wednesday and said I'd called on Tuesday and again was told I'd be called back with an appointment time. I wasn't.
Friday, finally they called to reset my appointment. Reset?, I asked. you mean 'set' the appointment. You never called me before.

Short story shorter, the guy showed up at 3p.m. that Friday. After whacking my shower handle for 15 minutes with a screwdriver and busting the cartridge inside, he realized he didn't have the tools he needed.

What was a drip from the shower head, now it was a gush coming from the shower handle, still stuck in place. Still, he had to leave, and leave he did after promising to be back first thing Monday morning.

He did not come back, neither on Monday, nor on Tuesday, nor on any other day, nor did he call, ever after that.

I got myself to the internet, watched some videos, went to the plumbing store, and after a few videos and much praying, I remove the handle, replaced the cartridge, and was done with both the drip and the gush.

So, all in all, I thank FI&S because they were kind enough to help me realize that I can do good plumbing if I try. As a a token of my gratitude, I give them a 3 star review and these 2 words:

Called because we had no hot water and it had been a few days. I explained I had a really elderly mother and could they possible come to fix the problem. They were amazing.
They came as quickly as they could - Jose, the person who fixed the problem was courteous and professional and best of all, explained all he he had done.
Jay did great follow up which is always a plus in my book.

We had a sudden leak under a sink-- a gallon of water in a minute out of a busted valve. I called a bunch of plumbers and left messages. A retired plumber i called recommended Friedman plumbing because they were close by. It was the end of the day, and, well, COVID. He told me to talk to Jay, the son. I did talk to Jay, who told me he couldnt send someone that night, but that his son would come in the morning. I texted 3 generations! He replied, no, four : ). We had turned off the water main so were just going to get through the night til his son Brandon's arrival in the morning. Meanwhile, my doorbell rang and it was another plumber I'd texted. Surprise. The guy came in and replaced the valve. Next day though, the valve was dripping, so I got back in touch with Jay. His son Brandon came the next day, replaced the wrong replacement valve with the right one, and fixed another small leak. Brandon was pro, efficient, effective, and really respectful of COVID precautions (mask, gloves). And proud and happy to be the 4th generation of a plumbing family. He made sure to give me his cell # before leaving, just in case. This was not the cheapest fix in the world, but everything is dry, and I am willing to pay for someone to do their job with professionalism and excellence. I am relieved to have a neighborhood plumber (my plumber of nearly 20 years retired and we've been patchworking repairs ourselves ever since). Thank you Jay, and thank you Brandon. Hope to not see you for a long time, but if I need to, I will be confident when I call.

Our hot water heater recently broke and we had Friedman Irwin & Son replace it. We were very happy with the team. Jay responded right away to our inquiry via Yelp. When we spoke he was friendly and helpful, and we got a very competitive price from them. Brandon and Norbert came round to do the work (removing the old water heater and installing the new one) and they were great - friendly, professional, efficient and thorough. Only minor gripe was that they arrived an hour later than the time we originally agreed to, due to another job, but I'm not knocking off a star for that because they let me know they were running late and kept me up-to-date on the arrival time. We had an excellent experience overall. We will be using them for any plumbing jobs in the future and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to a friend or neighbor.

I've worked with Friedman Irwin & Son twice already and both times, they spoke to me on the phone and went through my issues with me in a detailed manner.

I called Jay today with an issue at 6:30PM and he could tell I needed something done ASAP. When all other plumbers are probably done for the day, he came out, fixed it and charged me a completely reasonable price.

I'm new to the neighborhood and it's great to have someone I trust from here on out. I 100% recommend them.

My roommate had accidentally flushed a pork bone down the toilet. After more than a week of trying to unclog the toilet on our own, I called these guys today.

The woman who answered the phone was very friendly and efficient. I was expecting that I'd have to make an appointment for tomorrow at best, but she informed me she'd get someone to my place same day.

Jay called about two hours later to make sure I was home and then promptly showed up. He unclogged the toilet quickly - although with some obvious effort, which I appreciated. He was also quite friendly and told me a few stories that made me laugh.

Overall, this was a fantastic experience. I wish I had just called him right away, rather than wasting money and time trying to fix it myself. Quick, fairly priced, friendly and honest... I'll definitely call again the next time my roommate pulls a bonehead move.

Also, good to know that they accept cash or checks.

I found this company on Yelp on 6/22. They came the same day within 20 minutes, handled the problem I was having in no time and gave me a price. All within a span of no more than half an hour. I called after hours and left a voicemail giving details and asking for a call back (I didn't call the optional emergency number offered, since it wasn't an emergency). I got a call back early the next morning, as requested. They are located only a few blocks from me, and instead of making an appointment they were able to send a guy over within 10-15 mins, even though I was willing to arrange something for later (awesome), so I could still get to work that morning and not worry about coming home early. My issue was a very simple clogged toilet, he brought a snake, and he was in and out in 15 minutes since it was easy enough that I probably could have taken care of it myself but wanted to have called a plumber in order to demonstrate to my insurance that I was doing my due diligence. He made sure to double check that the flush was functioning before leaving and was super friendly and professional. On the phone, I was quoted $150-$175 depending on the difficulty of the job, and the guy who came diligently called after he was done to confirm pricing, including mentioning that it was very easy and not to enforce the upper end of their quote, which I appreciated. As quoted, cost was $150 (cash or check only, but tax excluded so ended up being $164), and he gave me a receipt without me asking for it which I appreciate when a business is cash only. I would have loved a slightly lower price considering how easy the job was and that I was flexible on timing, but these guys had the snake and did the job, and I did not, and we live in NYC where rent is definitely not free, especially for businesses. I felt as though this was in line with local pricing, but not a steal, which is totally fine. I think I could have found a (slightly) cheaper price for the job, but based on what I've read only by about $25 and it may have taken a few days, and I like hiring local because I want that kind of neighborhood. These guys did exactly what they said they would for exactly the price that they quoted me, which is all you can ask for. Can't offer info regarding more complicated work, but I got an excellent response time and good feeling from them and would definitely recommend them for a simple job, and would consider them for something more serious. First of all, his business wasn't open on time so I called an alternate number and perhaps he was grumpy because it was early but he wanted to charge $200/ hr to come and estimate the work when I ask for clarity if $200/ hr was for the actual work or the estimate he replies I don't work for free no one asked you to work for free I just wanted to be clear. As a homeowner I understand that plumbers charge service fees but usually plumbers will say we charge a service fee of $$ and if you choose us to do the work this will be applied to your cost simple and professional.

After speaking with him I'm very suspicious of all these 5 star reviews. Naturally I'm sure the owner won't hesitate to provide a nasty response but readers of these reviews should note that several people have raised the same complaint about this guy. Don't make the same mistake I made and overlook the tone in his replies to people and the highly accurate feedback about his negative demeanor. Ideally, one expects a plumber to knowledgable, trustworthy and at least cordial which inspires confidence that they know what they're doing but more importantly it earns credibility that you'll make things right in the event something unexpected happens. Sure you can fix a simple kitchen sink and get 5 stars but when you're contracted for more complicated and pricey work how will you respond if the unexpected occurs? There's too many plumbers in Brooklyn to endure unprofessional nastiness - if this is his behavior before doing the work I can't imagine how horrible he will be at handling anything that may go wrong. Previous reviewers have noted just how bad he is at addressing your concerns when you aren't happy. It isn't even about the $200 since I don't mind spending for quality work on my home this is about character and it's just not worth the risk that this guy does inferior work and then treats you with disregard after you've spent your money.

It's unfortunate that I have to give these guys a bad review since my experience with them started out great. Initially they saved me by replacing a water heater the day before Thanksgiving before we were hosting 20 people.

I decided to proactively replace the second water heater in my apartment before it died at an inopportune time since I knew its lifecycle was almost over. Friedman installed a new one, but made a mistake on the installation causing water to leak into my neighbors both below my apartment and below them. No problem with me. People make mistakes and Friedman was good about rushing back to stop the leak.

The problem occurred when it came to repair the damage to my neighbors' apartments. Friedman was very difficult to deal with in getting their damages repaired. To be fair, they never argued it was their responsibility, but it was a consistent series of unreturned messages, no shows appointments and rude replies that was so disappointing. After a couple months one of the damaged apartments was fixed and now after 6 months I finally gave up and am paying out of pocket to repair the other neighbors apartment. Though it's Friedman's responsibility, ultimately it's my apartment that caused the leak so I'll make good on his failure.

Though I'm sure they are competent plumbers and I know people make mistakes, it was super disappointing he never took responsibility and made good. I think it's important people consider this as they decide who to hire for plumbing work.

They are prompt, knowledgable, friendly and very organized. I would recommend them to absolutely anyone. A breath of fresh air after working with multiple plumbers who were unreliable.

I had a great experience with Friedman Irwin & Son! J was accommodating to my busy schedule and was able to come fix my toilet on a traditional holiday. The toilet in my apartment is of an older generation, so when a certain plumbing company (rhymes with Moto' Scooter) came in to do an estimate, I was told the entire system needed to be replaced and would cost upwards of $475 plus tax!! Absolutely not. When J came in and actually took a look at what was going on, he was able to replace a small part of the flush valve and it only cost me $150 for the whole time he was there, which only ended up being about 45 mins.
I would absolutely recommend J and Friedman Irwin & Son for your plumbing troubles!

I manage a hotel in Williamsburg and will continue to use Friedman's services after today's experience. I phoned at 10:00am in a panic after a guest's toilet flooded and my engineer couldn't correct the issue after 2 hours of snaking.

Friedman's technician arrived 10 minutes after my call and had the issue corrected within 10 minutes. I would highly recommend giving them a call.

Thumbs UP! They're A-okay...he came in got right to the issue. Had a plumbing supply run to make which was pretty quick and took care of a few small things while he was here which was great. I do recommend that they bring up their tools to avoid having to go back and forth to their truck for stuff - like screwdriver/allen keys/ snake & etc. Overall, great service, responsible and LEGIT. The owner is a Stand up guy too. Recommend them for toilet clog issues/ shower drips/ faucet drips/ toilet water pressure etc! AND, he cleaned up after himself. Very professional and pleasant. They sent a plumber quickly for a pressing problem, which as great. But the guy snaked a drain, got two feet then said we needed to bring in a high pressure pump and camera as he couldn't do anything. He said he hit rocks and couldn't get past them. As we waited for the pump guy, I had another guy come and he snaked the main first, then the drain and boom. The new guy got through the rocks no problem.

Although I've never done official business with Friedman & Son (thus the 4 star rather than 5 star review), I greatly appreciated the fact that they helped me with a useful referral. I called for an emergency bathroom repair and although Friedman wasn't available during the time frame I needed, he graciously referred me to a friend of his at another company who *was* able to help (and who provided great service). I appreciated his willingness to provide info that enabled me to rapidly solve my problem, rather than just saying, Nope. All booked up, and hanging up- a mark of a quality person and business! Had a wonderful experience with Jay and his plumber Myron. Jay came to assess our stressful plumbing situation we had in our bathroom just a few weeks before our baby is due. He came over that day to see the problem and let us know when and how much he could fix it for. We had issues with our building and decided to call them the next day to see if they could fix the pipe problem. He made an appointment to come the very next AM on his busy schedule. He sent one of his employees Myron who did a wonderful job fixing the pipe. They were all thorough, clean and sympathetic to our emergency situation. They were also very responsive when I called/texted. We will definitely be using them again...if we need and recommend you to give them a call. Jay also gave a very fair price. Again, this pregnant mom to be is very happy with Jay and Myron and their ability to relieve some stress in a stressful time.

I just had a pleasant experience with Jay and Brandon Friedman who helped me fix both of my tub spouts and two faucets. I didn't have the right parts (thought I did!) but they were able to put together two great temporary fixes until I get the right parts. They also easily fixed my loose faucets. Great work and service! After waiting 8 hours for the Roto-Rooter guy to show up (I was promised a slot by Roto-Rooter for between 12 and 2. But the guy finally arrived at 6 when it was too late to do the work...) and getting a quote for 350, I called Jay. I needed the boiler repaired because it just started getting cold. I called to ask about how much they charge and they said it was $125/hr...fine so they came took an hour and the bill was over $270! I appreciated it that they came right away --the boiler wasn't broken..it was clogged...so no parts were needed--so why the large bill? Because they charge travel time! They never mentioned that when I asked about the cost..funny how that works....I think I'm going back to school to study plumbing because that's where the moneys at! They should really think about changing their ways because next time anyone in building needs something..they won't be on the top of my list...--but they did fix my problem and came on same day so I'm glad about that-please guys just tell people what it's really going to cost.

Friedman Irwin and son are probably fantastic plumbers but customer service is alittle lacking. Had some plumbing issues that were not urgent but needed to get done sometime in the next couple weeks. I called over the weekend and left a voice mail and the gentlemen was very polite and called promptly back on Monday morning. Explained the issues and told me he would have one of his guys stop by on Tuesday (my residence is a few blocks from their shop). Gentlemen did not show and no call on tuesday. Left another voice mail a few days later and still waiting for a call back.

DO NOT USE THIS PLUMBER. I called him to replace my faucet and he charged me $300 plus I paid for the faucet. I blindly chose this guy because of the reviews on Yelp and I got totally screwed. From the time they got her until the time they left, including when they left my apartment to get the faucet it was 2 hours. That is $150 an hour. Taking advantage of people won't get you far in life. GOOD LUCK

Mr. Friedman was fantastic. He's clearly the only reputable plumber in Williamsburg, and it's very obvious why-- he is very friendly, prompt, and affordable. I very much enjoyed our conversation while he was fixing our plumbing issue, and he resolved our issue very promptly. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this man and his company... He told me his father was a plumber in Brooklyn and that he's been doing this since he was 16. I would highly recommend him to anyone and will absolutely use him again.

Great, fast, and friendly. I was a new customer with sewage coming up my kitchen sink. Gave them call at 8 am and they came out in less than an hour to fix my problem. Fixed it fast and the rate was not bad at all. I highly recommend them. Jay was great.

Incredible service. I had a late night emergency when I was out of town and had friends staying at my place when the toilet started overflowing to the top and would recede. Jay picked up my call in the middle of the night and promised to take care of it first thing, first stop of the day. And then by 8:30 the next day it was fixed! Saved the day for us.
