American Sewer and Drain Cleaning

I called American Sewer on the advice of a plumber after he was stumped by the plumbing layout of my old house.  Richard of American Sewer had the tools to solve the mystery.  A house trap had disappeared under part of the cement floor of the basement years ago. With his special cameras, Richard was able to determine where it could be found. As a result, we were able to clear an annoying recurring clog in the line which backed up waste water, making a major mess.  He saved us! All this for a reasonable fee that was clearly explained before and during the work. Richard is a great, honest guy. I have no qualms about recommending him.

I forgot to write this review of American Sewer and Drain's work from over a year ago:  A drain from the kitchen to the far end of the basement had been clogging repeatedly for years and was now resisting ordinary efforts to clear it.  Rich opened the trap at the far end and worked hard until he cleared it completely. He put his camera in and showed me the result, and also turned it the other way to discover (happily) that the man line all the way to the street was perfectly clear so there would be no need to do anything else.  Rich was prompt, smart, hard-working, honest, and reasonably priced. I can also add that no drain problems have returned, even all these many months later.

It was a pleasure hiring this company to fix my sewer drain clog. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He was punctual, responsive, and kept the area clean as much as possible.
He utilizes a camera probe during his work, which is an amazing feature, to clean the main sewer pipe. He showed me the tree roots that were blocking my pipe in great detail.
I would hire this company again without hesitation if I ever need to unclog a drain.

Richard called promptly after leaving his last job exactly as he said he would. Took the necessary time to set up of his tools and buckets and tarps to keep everything neat and tidy (much appreciated!). He asked what I had previously done especially with commercial cleaners like drano. He knew that I had previously attempted to use drano because it softens the trapped grease making the snake less effective. However, he did get the snake into the drain about 60 ft in and then the clog was finally gone. He put my p-trap back and tested the line by filling the sink halfway and letting it drain while the faucet was running. It drained so fast! All in all, it was about 50 minutes from start to finish and it turned out to be the exact cost of the estimate. He did not even ask for me to give a review, but I just had to leave one after such a great service call. Prompt, accurate estimate, courteous, effective. Would not hesitate to call for future issues.

As someone who doesn't know much about plumbing, seeing a backed up drain can be stressful. What's even more stressful is finding someone who is honest and fair. Richard was very patient and answered all my questions. He cleared out some roots in the sewage and it is as good as new. It only took about 45 minutes. I am happy I made the decision to go with American Sewer. I had a clog in my drain that created water backup. Richard was able to locate the problem and snaked the pipe with ease. I also did a camera inspection of the sewer line.

I used American Sewer some five plus years ago and I needed my main sewer drain cleared of the obstructions again. My concern was tree or bush roots clogging the system.  I made a call and appointment with Richard (the owner) He confirmed a time for Saturday morning this January 2nd, 2021. Richard called to inform me he was on his way over. He arrived as stated and began working. Richard is a very professional and easy to communicate with as he described in detail via his camera, knowledge and great personality what the issue was. In my case I had roots entering from underneath the cast iron pipe just a few feet away from the foundation. He cleared the roots  and showed me where the cracked pipe was allowing the roots to settle in. Richard did a fantastic job before and again today. He recommended a company who can do the follow-up main drain repair. In the mean time we don't have to worry about another back up any time soon until the repair is completed. Richard and Marci (not sure of the spelling) were responsive, quick, and provided great communication. My mother has been using a cheap sewer/drain company but they did poor work and finished our last job in less than 30 minutes. 4 months later, our sewer system backed up. Should have checked yelp and that's how I found Richard. As per reviews, I liked how he used the camera to diagnose the problem properly within the pipes. The reason why I chose their service.
Communication- Marci responded to my request with great attitude and you can tell she was very helpful and wanted to take care of my issues. It's hard to find someone who's respectful or cares about their job on the phone nowadays.
Pricing - transparent, clearly communicated and no BS fees or costs.
Service - Richard came on time, did his work, and kept me informed while I was out-of-state via phone. Had the same issue (as Thomas P.) where tree roots were growing into the pipes which he found with the camera and removed. Icing on the cake was his guarantees of work up to 1 year. I have yet to see that kind of service. The previous company that I used wouldn't come back when they were just at my house less than 4 months ago. On top of this, they support the military and also provided me with a military discount.

My master bath drain had so much gunk in it that I needed to call a plumber. I saw all of the excellent reviews and sent a message (with pics) to Richard through Yelp. He responded within the hour. He answered my questions, gave a reasonable quote based on the pics and my description of the problem.

Recently, my wife and I experienced one of the worst ways to wake up in the morning. With a stuffed up toilet. A mess all over the bathroom, with a nasty clean-up ahead. We called American Sewer, and right away you knew they were pros... asking questions that would determine if this was a problem with the toilet... or the sewer. They were correct in it being a sewer issue.

Problem was, they were booked (this was a Friday, and we were expecting weekend guests... ugh!). But Richard called back when he found he had extra time and was here by midday. Any homeowner in the same situation would be as happy as we were to see him!

My drain from my washing machine gas been overflowing when I do laundry a flooding the basement, so I called American Sewer And Drain. The scheduled me promptly, arrived on time, and were equipped to fo whatever was needed.  Richard resolved my problem quickly and provided a 1 year warranty on the job. After having some troubles with another sewer cleaning company, my expectations were set really low. However from initial contact with the receptionist I felt good about this company. The rep over the phone was very clean about costs and scope of work they can do. The owner/operation, Richard showed up right on time, was quickly able to assess the work that needed to be done, and began work as he masterfully removed the blockage in our sewer pipe. He wrapped it up with video tour of our sewer and suggestions for the future so we don't see him again anytime soon. He even gave me a one-year warranty on his work.

7/18/20:   Nassau county residence.  This was not an emergency as our basement slop sink blockage resolved on its own overnight.  The same thing happened  6 months ago so we decided to have our sub-main and  main pipes looked at where we suspected some intermittent blockage was occurring.  Richard had all 5 star reviews on yelp ( except for one 4 star review) and his website mentioned routine use of a CAMERA snake to get the job done at  $195,  with one year guarantee ( which is not offered by most in this line of work) . Pricing is reasonable and clearly stated online - so  prices are not based on your zip code or the size of your home. His stated working hours did not include sunday, so we scheduled with a neighborhood plumber whose fee was higher, charged extra $200 to use a camera should one be needed and offered no guarantee of his work.   But luckily, as I said, our sink blockage resolved on its own overnight -- so we canceled that appointment and made one with Richard on a weekday.  So glad we did that.  
The snake of his machine broke so Richard had to reschedule for the next day.  Such things happen.   He came today, on time, with a mask  (covid-19 )  and brought 2 large machines  ( snaking machine and a camera machine) on rollers to the basement.  On camera, we could see our submain and main pipes were clean till he got to around 59  feet out towards the street and found a large loose ball of roots that had grown by inserting itself in the junction area between 2 main pipes.  We have a large tree in front of our house.  This was definitely the culprit.  He had a rotary attachment tool to wack if off - which left a few short root ends behind.  He advised having this area snaked with a camera every 1-2 years cause the roots will surely regrow again.   It took 1.5 hours from time he rang our doorbell to time he left.  We thought such work would create a lot of splattering and mess -- but not at all.   THE CAMERA IS ESSENTIAL IN DIAGNOSING THE CAUSE OF THE BLOCKAGE AND PROVIDING VISUAL CONFIRMATION  THAT IT IS 100% REMOVED.  Otherwise, you are left guessing.   This fiber optic camera technology  is similar in principle to that used by cardiologists to see blocked arteries or to what GI docs use in colonoscopy.     Because he specializes only in this narrow trade of  unclogging drainage and sewer pipes  -- one can assume that his white truck has all the necessary equipment / tools to deal with a variety of blockage problems.  
His is a one man and one woman (his wife who answers the calls) business for the past 14 years.  He used to do electrical work way back when he was in the Navy in CA.  He grew up in Brooklyn, his business office is based in Massapequa.   He is professional,  mild-mannered and pleasant person to deal with.  Its hard to find an honest person to do work at your home who will NOT rip you off.   The only drawback with him is that since he is the only employee of his business, you may not always be able to avail of him in an emergency.  Usually, he does not work on Sundays which he reserves for family time.  But call to find out.   Right now, we are trying to find someone to replace our broken water heater but so far the plumbers we've spoken to charge exorbitant fees and try to sell you overpriced maintenance or warranty deals.  Thus, Richard is a great find.

Rich is a true professional and a one man show and great at what he does, his service was prompt, his pricing was up front and straight forward with no gimmicks or games. Rich was able to book an appointment for me which he was 10 minutes early, called in advance and his truck, equipment and appearance were all spotless considering his line of work this is a task I'm sure. Long story short cleared a blocked main line for me in about an hour, showed me the line with the snake camera and the pipes in the house. Replaced 2 broken sewer main caps, all said and done $225 and a one year guarantee, don't waste your time with roto rooter or companies alike.

I found this company by searching on Yelp for a Rooter Service company. I called him based on the reviews. We called him this morning at 7 am and left a message. He called back quickly and told us he would be at our house between 8-10am. He was very clear about the costs. He He got there at 8, cleared everything up and was done by 9:15. He is a professional! I highly recommend Rich. American Sewer should be your first Rooter Service company you call if you have drain issues.

I have 3 cesspools and all 3 lines running out of the house had root problems in the past.  The person who took care of our house retired and I was looking for someone reliable and knowledgeable.  I found it with Richard, the owner of the American Sewer & Drain Cleaning.   He is quick to respond, upfront with the price and he gives a warranty of his work.  When he is done he runs a camera through the line.  That is extremely helpful if you are thinking about changing the old piping to new one.

This time the problem was with a 70 feet long line that is deep underground.  The video showed that the line was mostly OK, but roots will be a problem again, sooner or later.  I will definitely call him again.  

(Note:  he does not do cesspool service, only rooting and sewer line cleaning.)

My initial call was returned in less than ten minutes. Early the following morning, Richard was at my house at the scheduled time (which was a two-hour window instead of the four- or more-hour windows from other companies). Outstanding service, honest and reasonably priced.  I had a drain blockage in the shower and looked in yelp and American Sewer & Drain were rated high so I send them a message and received a quick response.   They came out the next day and fixed the issue quickly and did not try to rip us off, which in itself is great.   They have become my go to plumber and really appreciate their integrity and great work.

Well, it's Saturday and experienced another plumbing problem today. This time with my toilet. It wouldn't flush. Seems it was clogged. I called Richard at American Sewer and Drain, again. Left a message. He called back in 20 minutes. Richard said he couldn't come today as he was booked. I told him it was OK as we have another toilet in our home to use. We scheduled an appointment for Monday between 10 am and 12 pm. Richard said if any of his appointments cancel today or there is time between appointments he'd give a call to fit us in. Well, that's exactly what happened. Richard called back said he was nearby on an appointment that took less time than possibly needed. He could come by and try and take care of our problem.
He came quickly. Snaked out the toilet and cleared the clogged.
Richard was through, worked clean (walked into the house with blue booties so not to track dirt) and charged a fair price for his services.
I would recommend him to anyone who needs a plumber and we all need a plumber if we own a home.
And, if we need him again, I would definitely use him again and most likely will!

Great service. They responded within 2 hours of me calling and the owner Richard was very friendly and explained everything that was going on and that needed to be done. We have had sewer/main line blockage issues since moving into our home two years ago,so unfortunately we have experience with several companies.  Richard, the owner/operator of American Sewer and Drain was highly knowledgeable and thorough.  He arrived on time to assess our,problem.  We needed some preliminary work done to access a main trap, so he returned several days later.  Communication for all appointments was excellent.  Richard relieved our blockage and using a camera, showed us some scaling within old metal pipes.  I was impressed because he offered two options- a hydro jet to clear this , or replacing the pipe with PVC.  If we replace the pipe, he would lose the job, and we appreciated his honest assessment.  He told us he has been in this line of work for 30+ years, and his expertise shows.  Finally, his prices were more than fair and very reasonable for the work and time he spent here.  Believe the positive reviews- I highly recommend as well!

I was going to hire some company who would of charge me over $400 for sewer video and I'm  glad I found American Sewer cleaning on yelp.  I have a sewer backup in the basement that bothers us every month.  Richard came and he was really patient, trying hard and profession. He spent over 4 hours to make sure all the grease we caught on video in the sewer were removed.  I will definitely use this company again and recommend it to others.

I just want to claim that after almost a year I haven't received another backup. I will probably call him again to clean my sewer again for maintenance.

I've hired people to fix various problems that my house has had over the last ten years and I'm always skeptical about who to trust. I had never used American Sewer and Drain before but Richard was fast, courteous, and honest. He quickly figured out the problem, had the right tools to do the job and his price was very fair. I will definitely use this service again if needed. I would recommend them to anyone who needs plumbing work done.

As good as it gets!!!! I read the reviews on YELP and they were correct! Richard call me back promptly and came to my house within 1 1/2 hours...he diagnosed the issue with my clogged mainline, cleaned it and did all the necessary maintenance on the entire system....I recommend him Highly and you can call him with confidence!!!! I had a company clean the mainline 30 days before and they did a terrible job(IT SHOULD HAVE LASTED OVER 1 YEAR)...I called them to inform them of the issue and they never called me back...Do not ever use First Response Services, they did a TERRIBLE job!!!

My downstairs toilet overflowed after Company (never happened before), but thanks to the 5 star review of American Sewer, I called and Rich called me back in 10 minutes and arranged an appt for the next day (I had 2 working bathrooms so that wasn't an issue).  Rich called me in the am to see if the toilet was still clogged (it was) and offered to come earlier which I accepted.  He snaked it out and in 10 minutes it was back in service.  Like the other reviewers, Rich is very straightforward with pricing and scheduling.  $125 for this job seemed reasonable to me so he gets the highest recommendation.

Look no further for your sewer and drain needs. I was very close to spending thousands of dollars on major sewer line repair from other companies. American Sewer got the job done!

I explained to Richard, the owner of American my dilemma of major root involvement in the line.  He told me not to do anything until he evaluated it. Rich came to my house promptly, showed me the area of concern with his camera and explained what had to be done. I saw a very large area of roots in the drain. Rich was confident that it could be cleared. He spent a very long time working on clearing the line and he never gave up. Ultimately he cleared the line of all roots when the other companies were either incompetent to clear it or stated it had to be repaired.  Additionally, Rich would not leave until water was free flowing without any issues.

This is the 5th time that I have had my sewer line cleaned out. This was the most thorough job and the least expensive. I used to have a large tree in my front yard. Every 2 years I needed to get the sewer line rooted. 4 different contractors over the years...they all charged between 350.00 and 400.00. They all cleaned out only between the trap and the street and all of them wanted to sell me on the camera service which I declined.
I ended up taking the tree down about 5 years ago. Yesterday, I noticed my basement sink draining slowly. I called a few different companies from Yelp. I ended up using American Sewer and I am glad that I did. The main drain out to the street had a bit of root in it that were catching toilet paper but there was still adequate flow. I forgot to mention...Richard (the owner) uses the camera always without a surcharge. So, the real blockage was between the trap and the main drain in the house. Never did any of the other services check that out.
So, Richard used the camera in 2 different directions, rooted the line in 2 different directions and put the camera back in in both directions. 210.00 and done. So, he scoped and cleaned in 2 different directions and used a camera which is a great idea and still only charged his basic fee. I highly recommend this Navy veteran!

I had a backup in my sewer line in my basement and I called Americana Sewer and they were very prompt in calling me back. They gave me an estimated time of arrival and was here sooner than estimated. Rich was so professional and did a great job. He was not only efficient but very neat. This is not a neat job snaking a sewer line but he came with a mat and kept everything very neat and as clean as you possibly can. He also showed me a camera and went not only out to the street line where the main sewer connects but back the other way to make sure everything was cleared. I would definitely recommend this company and services. And I hope I don't need it again but if I did I would definitely call them. Had a terrible clogged bathroom drain. Called American Sewer and Drain on Saturday and was able to make an appointment for Wednesday when I planned to be home. Richard showed up on time and spent more than two hours getting through the clog, which was deep in the wall and spread through a large portion of the pipe. He was courteous, kept me updated on the status of the job and committed to getting it done right. Price was very reasonable considering the amount of time he took. I recommend American Sewer and Drain and will definitely call again if I ever have any drain or sewer issues.

I had a clog in basement laundry pipe and Richard fixed it for me as promised.  Very reasonable price.  Glad I went with him.  I would recommend him and will use him in the future.

This guy Rich is a one man show, but customer service is great. Had him come twice for clogs and is very thorough.

Only takes care of clogs and sewer maintenance, but is a good thing to find a company that doesn't try to sell you so many services and outsource their work.

Excellent service and customer service at a very reasonable price (actually one of the cheapest!). Husband hired him to come to our house after utility sink connected to sewer kept backing up during washer cycles. He came and spent multiple hours going through the pipes with his camera and cutting roots that had grown through. He didn't try to upsell and very reasonably suggested we may need to redo this every 2 years or so. He also has a great 1 yr warranty on his work. We unfortunately had to utilize it as the next week we started have sewer water backup into the utility sink when doing dishes or flushing the toilet. He came back at a time convenient for us (Saturday morning) and again took his time cleaning out the rust on the pipes that he guesses his cleaning the prior weekend had knocked out. No charge due to his warranty. We couldn't be more pleased or recommend him highly enough! Will definitely be using him for all our plumbing needs!

I called American Sewer for a badly clogged kitchen drain. Nothing was getting through. I made the call at 9:52AM Monday, he said he was on another job and would call me within 2 hours to tell me he was on the way. Exactly 1 hour later he called to tell me he was 20 mins away. When he arrived, he examined the problem, set up floor cover and found the clog in the main line. Within 20 mins the drain had opened and was flowing freely. I was so relieved, especially when he said he'd guarantee the work for a year. Not only was I happy about that, but he was so clean. He cleaned up after he was done because some sludge had splattered under the sink when he was pulling the snake back. I wish I had called him first because the first guy I called ($49 sewer guys) came over with a hand held snake line that didn't make it too far, they also made mess for me to clean up. I was happy with Rich's work and highly recommend him. I will definitely call him first for a clogged drain next time.

Don't call anyone else! Rich is honest, professional, skilled and up front about pricing.  We had our sewer line backup and was cleared about every two years by one of the $49 each way sewer cleaning. So $100 each time, over 8 years. After a major backup following a party, Rich came and cleared the line until he hit a spot that they couldnt pass. He ran the included camera line through and found a hole in our sewer line near the street and a blockage after. Apparently for years and years, no waste was actually getting into the main sewer line but was going down the hole into the ground! Every so often roots or dirt would catch toilet paper and thats why we backed up every year or two! I wish we had known about him before! It was so awesome seeing the video, and he gives you a copy of it and pictures! He recommended we call the town since the hole was near their sewer line, they referred us to the suffolk county sewers who sent a truck and cleared the blockage with a water jet. Our sewer line still has a hole but since it now feeds into the main sewers we don't have to do anything yet. Cost $190 exactly as quoted. Highly recommend Rich and American Sewer & Drain!

They gave us a 2 hour window as to when they would arrive and were right on time. They even called my wife with an ETA 1/2 hour before they came.
They charged $99.50 for the service and explained to the tenant how to avoid future clogs.
I couldn't be more satisfied with their service and will use them again, without hesitation.

Had a issue with my sewer backing up once again. I had previously used a regular plumber from a local plumbing company who absolutely used the wrong equipment and way overcharged me. I found Richie on yelp with his company American sewer and immediately called him. Call them first!!!  I spent hundreds of dollars with the $49 guys  what a waste of time and money.  I called Rich out of desperation, as my sewer clog kept coming back.  He changed his schedule and was at my house within an hour.  He opened the trap in my crawl and solved the problem the right way.  I could have saved a lot of time, money and inconvenience if I wold have called Rich first.  I cannot thank him enough.  What a great and knowledgeable guy.

Just received service from Rich at American Sewer. Called him at 330 on a Friday afternoon, he was at the house in about 45 min, went right to work on clogged drain, fixed prob , triple checked that all was good before leaving, and very fairly priced. Highly recommend .

Our kitchen sink wasn't draining, and water was backing up into the bathtub - discolored, dirty water. We called Friday night at 6 pm. Their hours are 8a to noon on Saturdays, and Rich said he would call when he was on his way over at noon, after he finished his other appointments. The next morning at 11a, he actually DID call (don't you wish every man was so reliable?) - and said he was done early, and was on his way over! He arrived, and he was very friendly and professional, and went right to work, examining the pipes, etc. He located the line in the basement that needed to be snaked, snaked it through the kitchen sink, and was done in about a half an hour! He didn't leave a mess, and was very courteous. The price was much more reasonable than any other plumbing service has ever charged us for similar jobs. So glad we listened to the other positive reviews on Yelp. Really hope our pipes burst so we can call again!!!! :) (I kid. Please don't burst, pipes.)

Had a problem with the utility sink not draining when I used my washing machine.  Also involved was the kitchen sink, since they hooked to one line.  Called, and Richard, the owner, was at my house within 45 minutes.  He snaked the line, fixing my problem.  Charge was very reasonable, and came with a year's guarantee.  Richard is pleasant, and I was totally satisfied.  I added his number to my go-to list, and I would DEFINITELY recommend him.

Richard, the owner, showed up same day to clear a washing machine drain line that had clogged up beneath my slab.  Very reasonable and quick service.  I wouldn't hesitate to use this company again.
