Robert is the original owner currently serves as CEO at Hoffmann Brothers. He acquired Linton Heating & Cooling back in 1988 and incorporated Hoffmann Brothers at that time. When the company was acquired we had 4 employees, currently Hoffmann Brothers has over 200. Hoffmann Brothers specialized in residential and commercial heating and cooling for many years before it expanded into indoor air quality, geothermal, ductless systems, plumbing, water heaters, drains, sewers, appliance repair, electrical service and more!

Robert graduated from the University of Missouri Rolla with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He is a registered Professional Engineer. Robert serves on the board of the Air Conditioning Contractors of America where he was the President for two years. Robert was voted ACCA Man of the Year in 2000, 2001, and 2002. This award is given for leadership and contribution to the HVAC industry.

Robert also served on the Advisory Boards of Ranken Technical College and Vatterott Tech

Yes, Hoffman Bros. Gave me a Gift Card for $ 25.00, Bragging  about it on A  Review, after I purchased a Furnace from them.  The Gift Cad was only good if I purchased another Large ITEM from them or A service Call on the Newly Purchased Furnace. That in itself is Insulting. I don't  need another Furnace and I'm  hoping   for no Service calls on the New one. Thanks for Nothing!!!

Regarding plumbing, the service was excellent. Called on 4th of July because a part broke while I was trying to fix a shower leak. John walked me through a temp fix on the phone so I wouldn't have to pay for him to come out on a holiday-no charge. Next morning they sent Danielle out to fix my mistake. She was very pleasant and helpful. Can't thank them enough.

Jerry-  He's the best!  I called Hoffman  Brothers due to their numerous 5 star ratings.  I had two issues...one was a dishwasher that I was going to junk because it had overflowed twice and ruined my wood floors.  My insurance company said they needed the defective part to pay my claim for the floors so that was what made me make the call.  I already had a new dishwasher picked out, and was dreading spending the money to replace it. The other issue was for a Sharp oven range with a microwave drawer which is no longer made.   The 'official' call was to deal with the dishwasher and Jerry handled that with ease, replacing the valve that went bad to save me hundreds on having to buy a new one!  He showed me what went wrong, ran several tests, and then demonstrated the fix.  I was very satisfied.   Since I had him there, I asked if I could ask a question about my range which the lower heating element had gone out on.   Since Sharp no longer makes ranges, my oven was useless since I couldn't get the replacement part any more, but we still used the stovetop and microwave drawer daily.  I was eventually going to have to junk it too because when I called Sharp, plus several distributors (even overseas), no one had this part. And, to replace this range, we would also have to bust up the granite around the back of it (it's a slide in) and reconfigure the kitchen to allow for placement of a new microwave somewhere.  I put this off for well over a year, almost two.  Jerry told me he was 90% sure he could find me a part to work, he just needed a few days.  This guy was a dream!  Today, he (and Shane also worked on it  today too) brought me a heating element, made by another brand, retrofitted the connection pieces, and it's back to working!  This alone saved me over $1,000!  Two appliances saved, not to mention not needing to buy two new appliances and busting up my granite! Jerry is an expert in appliances and I'm so glad I called Hoffman Brothers.

I'm a landlord living out of state.  Got a call this afternoon (HOT Saturday afternoon) from my tenants saying the AC wasn't working.  Called around and Hoffmann Brothers were the only company able to make it on short notice.  They made the process very easy over the phone.  When they checked on the AC, they found that the circuit breaker was in the off position (looks like the breaker probably got flipped and the tenant tried to fix it but switched it the wrong way).  The repairman was even nice enough to reduce the service call fee to a non-weekend rate since it was such an easy job.  

Being an out of state landlord, you have the fear of potentially being overcharged for something that might not even be broken.  Hoffmann Brothers did the EXACT OPPOSITE and charged me LESS.  For that, they will always have my trust and business in the future.

It seemed like the technician didn't want to do the job in the first place.  Unmotivated.  I needed my lateral line cleaned out.  I was ok with the $95 charge but then he said it would be ANOTHER $690.00 to remove the toilet so he can snake the line.  I believe he was overcharging me because I was desperate and in need at the time.  I used Hoffmann Brothers many times and I will now never use them again.   I also called the main office and the receptionist said the manager was too busy to speak with me.  They were trying to gouge me because of the situation.

Called Hoffman Brothers about our gas oven leaking. Set up an appointment with ease and scheduled someone to come out. John L came out and saw it was an igniter issue. Replaced the igniter, no dice. Didn't give up and saw the igniter was faulty. Went somewhere local and got a new one, installed it without issue. He was making conversation the whole time and was extremely friendly. While he was here, he explained everything he was doing and why he was doing it. Technicians like him will definitely bring me back to this company when I need their services again!

I contacted Hoffman Brothers about replacing a broken dryer belt. I called on a Friday and they said they could come the following Thursday. I gave them the model number, serial number, make and told them I had the control panel, heat shield and the broken belt removed. I asked what time they would arrive and they said they would contact me when they were on their way. I waited from 7 am until 1:30 pm when I had to leave for work. In that time I received 2 text messages that said they were busy with other customers but would keep me posted and go about my day as normal. I had to have a friend stay to wait for them. After they had left I was informed the tech arrived, looked at the broken belt and said you need your drive belt replaced. He said he didn't have one so he would have to order one and it would take 4 days to get it. Mind you, this is 6 days after I told them it was a broken belt and gave them the model number. They also listed a charge of $95 for the visit (to say your belt is broken), $61 for the belt and $175 for labor I believe, I had 60% of the labor complete. I called right away to find out why they had not ordered the belt prior and the gentleman I spoke with said he would look into and that should not have happened and he would get back to me. I sent a follow up email and the response I got was you can cancel and get a refund so I did. I ordered the belt from Sears for $13 and it took me 12 minutes to put it on and reassemble the dryer completely. What they didn't tell me was I would not get refunded the $95 for the useless information that my belt was broken. Very poor business management, terrible scheduling of appointments, price gouging on parts and poor planning. The fact they kept $95 for making me wait 7.5 hours and spent a total of 10 minutes is a real shame. Never EVER will I use them for anything in the future.

We had a kitchen leak (somewhere)-our basement floor was wet.  Since our problem was a lower priority -we scheduled about 10 days after our call. The guys showed up within the scheduled timeframe.   They were communicative during the process-telling us what the steps would be and alerting us to potential issues.  Our copper pipes (our house is about 43 yrs old) were eaten through.  They provided several options (fix just the problem or bring  drain/pipes up to code) at multiple cost points.   Estimate was written up and signed.  Replacement drain, pvc pipes and connections were installed.  Total work was completed in about 4 hrs.  They left the work areas in the same or better condition than they found it.  Guys were personal, polite and respectful.  We plan to use them for our tankless water heater installation.  We have had other service providers-but recommend and will continue to use Hoffman Brothers (on Hanley).

I normally do my own electrical repairs.   When I needed a change/upgrade to my switch panel I called. They came out on time, looked sharp and gave me an estimate on the spot!   We made an appointment and their guy was on time, did the work and it was immaculate!

I just called Hoffmann to ask what they charge to investigate why my WATER HEATER is not working properly. I told her that the pilot light won't stay on. She said they charge $95 to do an evaluation to see exactly what's going on and then from there they will go over options as far as quoting the repair. I asked her if that covers the 1st hour of service. She said that charge is just to come out in a fully stocked truck. Then I asked what their hourly rate is. She said she doesn't even have that pricing information in front of her, but it depends on what needs to be done and the technician will discuss pricing after he arrives. Seriously, she couldn't tell me their rate? This should be pretty simple diagnostics for a qualified HVAC technician and I don't want to risk losing $95 for something that they think will cost a lot more!

I had my annual AC service check and tune up.  The Technician Steven M was friendly and knowledgeable .  He did not try and sell me  new equipment as some techs have done in the past.  I appreciated his direct approach and honesty about my AC and furnace. The time will come sooner than later.  And when it does I will request Steven for the install.

We are getting a hot tub and need to have some electrical work done.  Called Hoffman Brothers and scheduled a walk through to get an estimate.  Guy came out and gave me an estimate, but I never heard from them again.  Called back a week or two later and the person who was in charge of our request was no longer employed.  Went ahead with scheduling the work in which someone called me three days later to schedule.  So this morning (a week later) they came out to begin work.  After an hour of no work being done, I was informed that the foreman had arrived and had some concerns.  We went through all the options and he said that they won't be able to do anything today.  That someone will contact me in a few weeks to schedule. He leaves and the other guy comes back and says that they want to come back when the hot tub gets delivered, to make it easier on them.  The hot tub is ordered, but that won't be delivered for another 7 months.  After paying a third down as a deposit, I didn't want to be in limbo.  Got a refund, but what a God awful experience.  I've used them before and it wasn't this bad of an experience.  This literally has me back at square one with the project, and a month of time wasted.

If the fix isn't to add more freon, they can't get it done. $350 later, my a/c is still not working and they had no solution.

Great customer service!  Just had Hoffman Bros. replace our 19 year old furnace and ac systems.  They were neither the most expensive nor the least expensive.  However, you most definitely get what you pay for!

Their service was top notch.  Robert listen to our concerns and wrote up a quote - quick & efficient.

Todd & Luke were efficient and friendly.  They treated our home like there.  I even think they cleaned more dust from our basement floor than they caused from the install.  

Most defiantly, a recommend!

Called to request a quote on a very specific service Hoffman DOES PROVIDE. Had all pertinent info (brand, size, year, etc.), but they told me I had to pay $95.00 for a service visit prior getting just a quote or the job I need done. I am disappointed that this company would try and take advantage in this way.

We have dual AC systems, and on the evening of July 3 our first floor system went out. I called Hoffmann Brothers immediately, and someone called me back the same night. When a tech came on July 5 he gave us the not unexpected news that both the condenser and air handler would have to be replaced. On July 6 Nick, a project manager came to the house and provided us with a bid for the work.  He was informative and professional, and the bid was reasonable, so we scheduled the work for a few days later.  He even offered to put in a window unit to help us out for a few days. We have a new AC system now, and we had a totally positive experience with Hoffmann Brothers.

They called when they say they would, they showed up on time, and they didn't try to upsell us. I was impressed with every employee who came to our house or spoke with us on the phone.

As a realtor, I come into contact with a lot of contractors, and I know there are many good ones in the area, but Hoffmann Brothers displayed a level of service and dependability that earned both our respect and our future business.

Customer service excellence! I entered a request online one evening, received a call the next morning to schedule service; answered my questions. They have an amazing call system to let you know you are in the technician's route schedule and call you again 30 minutes before he arrives.
Chad, the Master certified plumber, was courteous, knowledgeable and had an awesome and pleasant personality.
I would use them again and recommend their service.

I admittedly haven't ever hired a plumber in the 35 years I've owned houses. I always knew someone who fixed it for the cost of parts and $100, so there was a little sticker shock for me, but I know I paid for Hoffmann Bros reputation and well-trained staff, providing me piece of mind.

I also chose them because they repair Electric, plumbing, and HVAC. My house has more work to be done, and I want to stay with one reputable company.

Terrible. They gouge you for money and rarely actually fix anything. I've given them
Tens of thousands of dollars in installation and work and have been a protection plan member, and finally I've had enough. Just one week after having to pay for a service call during which nothing was fixed, they have the audacity to tell me they won't service one of the furnaces unless I pay more than I already do every month for their protection plan. This is after about a month ago someone came out to fix the heat, charged a service fee, diagnosed the problem, and then said they wouldn't fix it because they no longer work in attics. What? You installed the device six months ago and now won't service it because suddenly you don't do attics? Aren't you an hvac company? Biggest waste of money. Company should be ashamed of itself. Never again.

Hoffman Bros worked in our  furnace in a 6 family building.  We had terrible problems with uneven / no heat in several units over an extended period of time.  They tried many things and after spending many thousands of dollars with recommendations to spend over $10,000. 00 more. They were here many times and had serviced the boiler for a couple of years.
We called another company for another opinion who said these would not fix it but they did not help either.
The bottom line, we did find  a company who fixed the problem for $50 by resetting a set screw and adjusting a dial.

Our serviceperson, Mike, from Hoffman was a very nice, polite and was great at responding.  He was very nice to work with the problem just did not get solved and apparently it was an easy fix.

As a 1st time customer I couldn't be more impressed w/this company  and I'm not easy to impress or trust companies w/the way service calls are rendered or not, these days.  Not true w/Hoffmann Brothers, Jennifer,ofc, Mike and Ken, techs, provided excellent customer and HVAC service.  So impressed and not previously scheduled,  I had them to lower my thermostat to eye level (on a scooter).  Although a little pricey, I feel I paid for thorough service and piece of mine. Additionally, they pointed out much needed maintenance service and suggestions on other matters that is outside the realm of their expertise.  The one disappointment was the waiting around for a tech, they put you on call the day of your appt w/a 2 hour window.  I'm impatient and like structure so waiting and wondering is a little frustrating for me, even tho I'm at home daily...woe is me!:)

I am always suspicious of repair companies - ALWAYS.  But Hoffman gets an absolutely well-earned five stars. No heat on a Sunday (of course). Jason arrived quickly, fixed it.  A week or so later the same problem occured (not their fault, just one of those things). This time Dave came out, after dinner. Spent at least 90 minutes at my house, checking everything. I was sure there'd be some new thing. But no - when he was done, I heard every homeowner's favorite 2 words.  No charge.

As a single female, I'm used to getting BS and nonsense from contractors and the like. So I was delighted to discover this company.

Service is great and all the repair folks teach me about future maintenance. Appreciate that as a first time homeowner.

Office people are detailed and they give you great updates so if you are at work you can run home to meet your repairs person.

Cost is discussed thoroughly and before they get started.

They wear a logo shirt and you get an email with the person's name and photo so you know who you are looking for. There has been zero creepy or misogynistic things said.  It would be cool it that was a given but it's not.z

Hoffman Brothers has taken care of my heating forever. When I moved to a new old house, they put in A/C. When my furnace died, they replaced it and ditto with my water heater. I have them come twice a year to do a check up to make sure everything is running well and to fend off any looming problems. For over 16 years, I've seen them grow and grow, but never change the way they treat me. Always professional, kind, personal. Today Michael and Ken came and found a little thing with my furnace, repaired it, serviced it, replaced the filter (provided free by Hoffman) and did so quickly and with professionalism.  I tell everyone about them. Now they do plumbing, electric, appliances and at a reasonable rate. Can't imagine using anyone else.

My first experience with Hoffman Brothers was wonderful. My upstairs toilet was leaking through the ceiling down to the basement. I didn't know what the solution was, but I was prepared it to be wildly expensive. Scheduling was a breeze and the workers could not have been more polite. Once they assessed the situation, they provided three options of different price points. I choose the cheaper option, simply because we plan on renovating the bathroom sooner than later. There was no pressure or scare tactics to choose the more expensive options, which was refreshing. They were nice as can be, made the repair and cleaned up like they were never here. They even left me Hoffman Brothers dog treats for my dog!

When choosing someone to work on your home, the trust factor is very important. I wouldn't hesitate to call Hoffman Brothers in the future. I highly recommend them.

Used Hoffman Brothers to troubleshoot a water heater. The water heater needed to be replaced. I authorized payment which was a mistake. $2700 for a 1k water heater. I asked to see an itemized breakdown of the service and they have a flat service fee. 1700 is a bit ridiculous for a 4 hour installation and haul away. We will not be using them again.

What a rip-off!!!

Had a gas valve replaced on a hot water heater (they charged $726.28 reduced to $627.29 because I had their home maintenance contract). Thought that while they were there, I would have them install a kitchen faucet we had bought (they charged $363.42 reduced to $308.90).  Took the plumber 3 hours to do both tasks.  Later learned the gas valve cost less than $150 on amazon and I am sure they buy it for less. The plumber also said the shutoff valves for the kitchen faucet was bad. Maybe another $25 in parts.  So this means I paid over $200/hour for labor!!!
When I called to complain about these excessive charges, they said that their prices were not based on parts, time and labor.  Instead they use whatever price is listed in their book. They claimed this was a more transparent way of pricing because then customers would know up front what the repairs will cost!!! What a joke!!!  When they tell you the prices up front, your hot water heater isn't working, they are there, you have no idea (until later what the parts cost, how long it will take etc). There is a lot of pressure (they'll still charge you for a service call) to say - do it.
To add insult to injury, they expect me to continue to pay $48/month for the next 5 months for a maintenance contract.  Good luck with that!!!

If you want to get ripped off call Hoffman brothers!!!

If I could give a 0 I would.

They charged us $2700+ to replace a water heater in a townhome and their management refused to provide an itemized statement. Their staff has also said they would reach out to us to discuss but no one has and when we contact them their management won't call us back.

They completely took advantage of us and charged $1700 for 4 hours of labor and haul away.

I give Hoffman Brothers a 5. Yesterday, a Hoffman professional went to and used a lock box key for my home while I am 700 miles out of town. I was given update calls and a 30min on our way call. When the tech, Steve B. celled me, he explained his findings and gave me info that saved me about 2k$. If that is not honesty from a company, I don't know what is.

When I thanked him he said no problem just remember to use us again and proceeded to tell me that he felt fortunate to work for such a good company stating all employees are good, honest people.

Thank you Hoffman Bros., and thank you Steve B., forever grateful.

This review is in regard to the Appliance Repair Division.

The tech that arrived, Mr. Jerry Cox, was very friendly and professional.  My washing machine had been spitting up gunk onto my clothes for the last month or so, and it had recently gotten much worse, and store-bought washing machine cleaners were not doing the trick.

Hoffman Brothers Appliance Repair Division was able to schedule me within a couple days and even showed up early that day.  Even though Jerry, the tech, was able to diagnose my problem with high certainty upon first sight, he still went about checking and analyzing all of the inner workings of the washer.  He even showed me a video he took on his phone so I could see what it looked like inside the washer when it ran and get a better idea of what was causing the problem.  We had already taken it apart somewhat, and he put it back together as he worked.  While there, he switched the door on my dryer to open from the right, making it easier to move clothes from the washer into the dryer, and he leveled the dryer that occasionally would rock when it ran.  I hadn't even called about my dryer, but those were courtesies he extended while he was there.

Within an hour I'd say, he confirmed his initial diagnosis.  It ended up being a simple fix and recommendations going forward to solve my problem, but his level of knowledge and professionalism and helpfulness made the diagnostic fee worth it for me despite my machine not even needing a repair after all - just basically gave me a prescription for curing the problem.  (Those instructions have worked, by the way, and I'm no longer having the issue.)  I would highly recommend this service.

I had an appointment scheduled for today, and after waiting around all day I was just told they ran out of time working on other sites. Giving 2 stars instead of 1 because at least they called every 2 hours to let me know they were running late. I would've happily scheduled an appointment for later in the week at the time of booking, instead of wasting my entire afternoon waiting for a company that was clearly overbooked.

Nobody likes to hear their AC broke during a Saint Louis summer, but Hoffmann eased the pain.

Living in a 125 year old brick home, things are never as efficient as they could be, and their tech, Brian, took the guesswork out of what our home needed by performing a true Manual J load calculation factoring in our homes size, existing ductwork, and construction.

Only 1 other installer, out of six, also performed this calculation.

Their quotes then came back 10-15% lower than other similarly spec'd equipment.  When I called to confirm I'd like to go with them, they were able to get started the very next day.   Even with one worker calling in sick, the job started out rapidly and the three installers who installed our system were efficient, professional, and left our home cleaner than they'd found it.

After install, I noticed a few oddities about the system over the first weekend because it was moving a lot more air than our old blower.  They sent a tech out the very next day to talk over what changes we could make and while the work did cost a bit more, it was nice they had sent one of the original install techs so that he would be familiar with the install.  He went above and beyond to ensure our happiness, even calling some old-timers to discuss if they'd ever seen the odd issue my old home was having.  They had, and some quick changes have largely resolved an issue that is a combination of how awesome our new HVAC system is, and how old my home and ductwork are.

I know that if any additional problems arise they will be honest and up front in helping to determine what the issues are, and how we can resolve them whether they are things that could be overcome with the install, or peculiarities to heating and cooling an old home with modern equipment.

Wow! So, I'm selling my home in St. Louis and currently am living in Columbia. When Laclede gas was inspecting, they found out that I needed a new heater. While it is NEVER a good experience shelling out thousands of dollars, Hoffman made this painless. They were so nice to me, got a repairman out to my house the same day (and had no problem using the lock box) assessed the situation and found the same result as Laclede. They called me back and were willing to work with me and get out there the next day (today) to install my furnace. Not only did they upgrade my thermostat for free, they put plastic over all the floors and their shoes so as not to get anything dirty. They called me right after and even sent me a picture of their work. I was seriously impressed from start to finish. Would recommend to anyone.

Just got a new AC unit and coil put in. Semi pricey but comparable to other big companies. Peace of mind though with great warranty on a somewhat smaller and cheaper unit for my tiny house. Quick, professional and courteous. He set up my thermostat program too rather than making me try to figure it out. Definitely will go with them from now on.

Hoffmann Brothers came out to service my HVAC system.  It's only a few years old but it had been having issues (furnace not kicking on reliably) for a couple of seasons.  Another company (Welsch) had sent someone out a few times to fix it previously, but they really didn't seem to try that hard and ultimately they did nothing to improve it.  So I tried Hoffmann Brothers and on the first trip out the technician they sent took his time, went to get extra parts, and spent 2-3 hours working on it.  And it's working quite well since then.  They weren't cheap, but they got the job done right the first time.

I called in for my heater acting wonky this morning. Megan got me all setup and then asked if I wanted to join their membership program....I usually don't, but asked for more info to be emailed to me.
WOW!! Their membership program is awesome!! For a monthly charge, that you can cancel at anytime, the benefits are absolutely ridiculous!!
I called her back and get it all set up and paid into it.
Well my appointment for tomorrow ended up being able to be made today and then we met Kyle, our service tech!
Kyle was equally amazing as the service membership!!
He came out, put his bottles on ans came in. Confirmed what I had told Megan the issue was, guess what, my issue was somebody messed with the thermostat and had it on HOLD. We adjusted that, he could have easily sold me a new one, but didn't.
He cleaned and did whatever they do to the furnace, and showed me all along the way what he was doing and changed my filter, which they provide with the service agreement, and was out the door and away he went.
Today's wonky heater turned out to be not so bad and I gotta thank Megan and Kyle both for that.

I'd highly recommend Hoffman Brothers for anything they do at this point!!!

Had Hoffmann come by 10 months ago to fix an oven. Overall price was about $800 for parts and labor. This weekend the exact same issue appeared and even though I was promised a one year parts warranty, Hoffmann refuses to give me the replacement piece unless I let there tech come out and charge me an additional $600 to replace it. I would just replace it myself if they would give me the part, but I'm not spend a total of $1400 on an oven in a 10 month span. So frustrating that the Hardware Warranty comes with the the requirement to spend an additional $600. So scammy. I will never trust Hoffmann in my home again.

Theses guys show up at my place yesterday cutting open the ceiling in the bathroom for a problem above me. They empty everything in the shower into the bathroom sink, take out the rug and leave replacing nothing. Avoid them if at all possible.

I called them out for the first time a month ago after my furnace stopped working. They said i needed a whole new furnace for $4k or $3k to fix....Then without my approval called someone out to measure for new when I already told them I was not going to be purchasing one...I called D&D Heating the next day for a second opinion, and they came out and cleaned the igniter and got me a new part for $400. And has worked perfect since!! Hoffman really tries to sell to you. Beware.

I recommend Hoffman Bros to every person I know who needs plumbing, electrical or HVAC services. I was in a terrible situation two years ago because of very poor judgment on my part - I hired a fly-by-night contractor to renovate my kitchen because they were the cheapest. It was the worst situation I've ever been in as a homeowner. I kicked the scammers off my property and called Hoffman Bros. They were amazing - came in the very next day and went to work doing the work CORRECTLY!
Now I'm much wiser and never use any other company for home systems service and repair.  From their professional crews to their super nice and helpful receptionists - the service they provide is impeccable. My latest experience was plumbing repair from their professional and polite plumber named Steve. Steve was prompt, friendly, explained the repairs to me very carefully and fixed my problem completely! Thank you, Steve!
Are they the cheapest? No. But they're worth every penny! They've proven to be the best choice EVERY time. Do yourself a favor - spend the extra few bucks and hire the BEST.

We called Hoffman for washing machine repair and my husband told them the model number and that it needed a water inlet valve replaced. We waited a week for the service and when he came he confirmed that's what it was and said he needed to go see if he could find the part and that the total cost would be $480. He left to go get the part which he should've already had. It's a $40 part. My husband called the office and let them know we didn't want to do it because that is way higher than the average price for that repair. The service guy came back and said we didn't just owe $95 we owed $154 because he drove to go get the part. We paid it but will never use them again. Our washer is still broken, we paid $154 for that guy to drive around when they should've been prepared, and they had wanted to charge an exorbitant amount for one hour of labor. Sure they were nice on the phone but they are gouging people with cost. You can buy a new washer for less than that. Ridiculous

They came out to look at our water heater and told us it was not fixable because the broken part did not exist and we would have to have a new 4000k water heater. However this was NOT TRUE. We found the exact part needed brand specific at Grainger. On top of him lying he also broke the gas control knob and NEVER said a word and left. I would NEVER recommend this company as they are untrustworthy and the service person downright lied.

Very simple.  Don't say you service Jefferson County when you don't.  This would obviously save me the time of calling and growing through everything only to be told, sorry.  Then I was told we don't go 30 miles, well I'm 24 miles from the office.  Waste of time!

My a/c went out unexpectedly and a tech (Mike) arrived w/in 2 hours. Unfortunately, I needed a new system and Dan F, a project manager, was at my home few hours later. He was able to explain in detail how to not merely replace but how to improve the system to make it more efficient. He also made sure that two portable units were delivered by the end of the day (by Loc) so that I would have some relief from the heat until the installation could take place. The installers, Paul and Greg, were polite, professional and interested in creating and building, on site, a new and better system. During the process they answered my questions, explained why they were doing what they were doing and finally, how everything worked. Before they left they made sure I was completely satisfied. Overall, each member of the team who participated with this project couldn't have been nicer or more thorough.

EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE.

Needed a gasket and bolts replaced on the tank of a toilet.  Parts at home depot cost about $5.  He wanted to charge me $400-500 for it.

He gave three quotes.  Two for replacing the toilet and one for fixing it.  The new toilets were about $1000.  When I asked how it could cost so much for changing out the gasket and screws, his response was they won't do just that.  They must replace the other pieces in the tank as well (flush valve, etc).  At home depot they are about $25.  So, either this guy is really slow at doing this work..or their hourly rate is really high.

I decided against the repair and paid his trip charge of $75.  That's what it cost me to learn not to call Hoffmann.

One positive thing, they were able to come out the same day we called.  They had a cancellation.

I rarely post any reviews that are negative while the service is good they really gouge for any type of repair. A simple repair I used to be able to do, new kitchen faucet, they charged $95 to come out and $316 for the labor. And I previously purchased the faucet!  He was here less than hour. It's hard to not have a functional kitchen faucet.

When St. Louis was hit with a sever thunder storm back on Thursday August 12, 2021, my area was hit pretty hard.  The storm generated  gusty winds so intensely strong it toppled trees, caused huge limbs to break off  and severed power outages throughout the city for days. The storm caused my neighbor's massive tree limb to fall onto all of my service lines and rip the electrical box off my home.  

We contacted Hoffman Brother's as well as a few other electricians. Hoffman hands down displayed the BEST customer service, which profoundly stood out and separated them from their competitors. Hoffman was able to send someone out the following Monday, August 16th to survey the damages. Steven was the technician whom came out. He was timely, polite, informative and patient . He went in-depth regarding all the services needed in order to restore the power and options available, he was able to quote a price on the spot. He emailed me the details in writing and provided timely follow-ups to additional questions and concerns.

Hoffman contacted a few days later with an immediate appointment.  Stephen and Ryan came out promptly at 7a.m. on Saturday morning August 21st. They worked diligently and had the power restored by 11am. Stephen even assisted me with getting the garage door back on track, he went over all the services that were completed and informed of next steps going forward.

The professionalism, respectfulness and knowledge Stephen brought to the table with every transaction and encounter was OUTSTANDING!!!!  

When I say from the beginning to the very end, the entire process of working with Hoffman Brother's was completed with such ease and comfort. Hoffman Brother's provided outstanding customer service and a responsible price point with extensive coverage.

The quality of workmanship provided by Stephen & Ryan, the in-depth conversations, the products and service. Hoffman took on the responsibility of everything. They contacted Ameren once the work was completed, they came out during the inspection. I would highly recommend Hoffman Brother's and would not hesitate to use them again.

Hoffman is a top-notch company that has serviced our HVAC system for many years as well as taking care of our various plumbing needs.  Recently we needed plumbing work for a remodel of our house. Having renovation done on a house while living in it is a pain, but when you have great people doing the work, it takes a bit of stress off.

Hoffman is reliable, professional, and fantastic workmanship.  I can trust their work is performed the correct way. Mike and Nathan have done a great job today. Mike is truly one of the best!  He is so courteous, professional, and a problem solver - a pleasure to have in my home!

Also, several months ago, we had our sewer lines terribly clogged. Don worked so hard to get it all fixed. It was a messy job but Don had a great attitude and very professional!

Plus, whenever I call the office, the office staff is always helpful and very nice!

Would highly recommend Hoffman any time!

I had a fairly simple service request - just swap out dead gas dryer for a new one and hook it up. The technicians, Sean and Austin were fast and made sure everything was running well. Longest part was getting Hoffman's service system online to work so they could collect payment. Sean kept troubleshooting it and eventually I was able to pay and receive the invoice. I appreciate everyone from Cat and Kelly in the office to Sean and Austin being professional, arriving early and getting my new dryer taken care of! The price was steep on top of paying for a new dryer - but it was worth it considering the service I received.

These guys are the real adult service.  They take your calls, they show up when they say they are going to, they fix things.  

I have an old house, with lots of system issues to solve.  First one, previous owner (PO) put a new fancy boiler in the 100 yo house, and half the radiators don't work.  Hoffmann has real boiler pro's on staff and they came out, figured out the problem and got me heat.  The boiler install had to be $35k or $40k, and the company that installed it didn't get it working for the PO, and on a service call, had no idea how to address the problem.  Cost some money, needed a new pump, and some diagnostics.  But, heat in all the bedrooms is worth it.

Next, Adam the electrician came and hooked up 220 power to my garage.  Before it had only 120v.  Nice work.

Just had them install a new AC system, with a couple Mitsubishi mini-splits in my porches.  Looking forward to AC in the summer now. lol

You have to pay them, but this is the kind of professional service you hope for.  I read other reviews, and people have written, I could buy those parts and do it myself for less?  No joke.  Having an experienced professional show up, with a truck full of parts and tools, has to cost money.  They charge about the same as every other real service company, and actually get things completed.

Called Hoffmann Brothers this summer when our a/c was on the verge of driving us crazy with a loud fan motor.

The technician arrived on time and knew exactly what he was doing (We had already tried a rival service and that technician didn't even know how to open up our unit).  He stated that they can work on any manufacturer's units from York to Trane to Goodman and based on how quickly he got my unit apart and determined the issue, I believe him.  

After diagnosing the problem, we got a quick quote and he ordered the replacement fan motor right on the spot.  We joined their club which gave us a discount on future parts and service and includes twice a year spring and summer checkups to make sure the a/c and furnace are in good shape.

The next day, at the time of my choosing, the technician arrived and installed the part within minutes.  When he buttoned up our unit, everything was quiet as church.

I heard about Hoffmann Brothers via a local radio commercial.  I highly recommend them to anyone with hvac issues.  They are our new  go to guys.

Absolutely ridiculous. I scheduled an appt on a Monday for today, a Friday. They gave me a window of 9am-12pm. I no longer live at this property and am in the process of selling. I took off work today with the intention of running other errands in the afternoon.  At 11:50am, a rep calls me and says the plumber is going to be late. I ask how late and they say maybe 30 minutes or so. Basically, up to an hour likely.  I told them to forget it.  I don't have time for this nonsense. They pretty much double-booked me and then the job took longer than expected.  They could've at least called earlier. You know you wouldn't have been here in the timeframe an hour ago. Completely unprofessional and inconsiderate of my time. Will not be using again.

I called several other companies who let me know they won't service North St. Louis but Hoffman immediately stated that they would absolutely come out. Hoffman Brothers did a great job when my A/C went down. Somebody came out right away (sooner than anybody else I called), and they got my business for a new A/C and furnace replacement. They did offer me the options to repair, but in a 1980's System, it made more sense to me
To replace it. Communications were excellent throughout, and the installation was a very good and professional experience. Jake and Enrique arrived on time, communicated throughout the process and were respectful of my home and pets. They cleaned up and explained everything without making me feel like the clueless idiot that I am when it comes to this sort of repairs. The technician that came out to the house was very nice but the way they operate I don't care for. When he got here he said what all is wrong I showed him a few things he wrote up different bids for different things and they were all extremely overpriced I ended up paying $500 . My neighbor said he could have done that if I would have just bought the parts. I will always use Dependable plumbing and Sewer never again will I use Hoffman Brothers for anyting

I own 2 4-plex buildings, and my experience with Hoffmann has been lacking, to say the least. We've had a building where the heat suddenly stops working. They've been out 7 different times to address this issue, and we've spent $1000s.

It's winter, and I want to make sure my tenants have heat. On the sixth visit, they determined it was a metering issue (an issue for the gas company). The gas company determined it was a line issue, so I called Hoffmann back. At this point, it was a Friday. They said they could do after-hours service for $250 which I was happy to pay.

As soon as the technician arrived, before inspecting, he determined it wouldn't be something he could do because they run a 'skeleton crew' after hours. His boss also informed him we still owed $250 even though he didn't perform any services.

This lack of communication has been incredibly frustrating, and I feel as though they take advantage of people needing heat in the middle of winter.

Hoffman Brothers replaced my furnace / air conditioning over the summer right after I got out of the hospital following a heart attack.  It was during the hottest part of the summer and they were professionally friendly and had everything installed in less than a day.  I ran into an issue during the coldest part of the winter this year and they were out checking it out and had the issue fixed in record time before the next record breaking cold spell hit.  Hoffman Brothers do quality work and customer service is their priority.

We called about getting the faucets changed that  connect our washer to the water lines. We were told they would call and give us a 30 minute window of when the worker would show up. The worker, Corey, was right on time. It was raining out and he made sure to put on the show covers to keep our floors clean and dry. He explained what he was doing and even talked to my husband while he was a work to explain what he was doing. Corey made the area he was working in was clean when he was finished. He took the extra time to explain the charges for the services provided. I will definitely be caking then again if I need any services for heating, AC, or plumbing.

We've needed our A/C system checked out for a couple years but just
never got around to it. Finally, today, I called Hoffman Brothers and
spoke with a woman who couldn't have been nicer and more helpful if she
tried. She got me all setup with a yearly membership, what a deal, and
put me on the books for later in the week but said she'd call if
something opened up. As soon as I hung up the phone she called back and
said she could send someone over right away. Heck yeah! He came over,
fixed me up in no time, and we now have a charged up system! And the
service tech was extremely friendly and helpful, answered all of my
questions and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need. I wish it
was this easy to do business all of the time. I'll be recommending
Hoffman Brothers to everyone from now on!

I was referred to Hoffman Bros by a friend who used them extensively on his commercial properties and personally. We had been using a big name HVAC contractor. My last encounter with them involved a technician who came to our house talked down to my wife,  charged for an analysis of our problem that I had already explained to the company with the expectation for them to fix what I specified. Instead he charged her to tell her what I already told them and left requiring us to burn up another day of our schedule for them to come back and do what I asked for the first time. This time I called Hoffman Bros. The technician Aron arrived and quickly untangled an issue with one of our humidifiers   I mentioned one of our high efficiency hot water heaters has not worked in a year. The manufacturer had obsoleted it and the specific part I was told was needed by 2  different plumbing companies and another HVAC company was not obtainable. Aron looked at it and quickly determined the problem was not that part, rather it was a defective relay which is a common part Hoffman stocked on their shelf. His $100 repair saved replacing a $2000 complex hot water heater. Aron is competent, respectful and efficient. He offered several suggestions on the best features to connect on the humidifier, performed customized work on its installation and fully explained its operation. This was an out of the box customer experience for me. Hoffman Bros. Is now my HVAC service provider. Thank you and make sure Aron is they guy you send next time!

Beware! I am an owner of multiple rental properties and can not recommend this company.

I have used them twice and was aware of the $95 service call fee which is reasonable and can be expected.

The 2nd time I called them, I essentially wanted a quote but was prepared to pay the $95 service call fee for them to do their independent diagnostics.

Ultimately they charged me $244 for them to inspect my system looking for other issues but no work was performed.

$244 is a lot to pay to get a quote.

They did tell me there us a $149 hourly charge but that is misleading- I was under the belief that the hourly charge is for repairs not to look for additional work that you didn't request.

I had Hoffman do the plumbing in a bathroom renovation. First off I was told this project would take 4 days. From start to finish it was more like 5 weeks because they failed to pull correct permits putting all work to a stop for weeks. They did the new plumbing correctly (I think-nothing has broken yet at least) but installation of every fixture was done incorrectly. I have had to go in and fix both the stopper in the sink as well as my shower valve, and install a new toilet seat because they cracked the original one which I had bought. Easy fixes but wtf am I paying over $10k for then? Additionally they had a subcontractor come in for portions of construction. He put a material in my shower for waterproofing prior to tiling which was a bright pink color. Due to his carelessness I now have hot pink splattered permanently all over my brand new tub. My family has used Hoffman before in the past and had great experiences which is why I chose them for this project but I deeply regret it.

Pretty disappointed with this company. We needed a quote on a sewer line repair and they had us jump though the hoops to get the quote prepared. Then, long after the fact we learned that there was a fee for the quote...  It seems like we should have known up front at the least if not them just quoting as a cost of doing business and rolling that fee into the work they complete. Poor customer experience for sure.

We just used Hoffman Brothers for plumbing services because we had a backed up sewer pipe. This happened on a Friday before a Monday holiday (MLK) weekend. My husband contacted other plumbing businesses that were each recommended, but none could come until the following week. He decided to try businesses close to us and when he called Hoffman Brothers, they said they could come out within few hours and they had a $95 special--yay! From the first phone call, they were polite and efficient. They kept calling to keep him updated on their ETA. The guy who came to our house was polite, efficient, and very professional. He fixed the problem quickly and did the camera in the pipe thing and showed us where the roots that clogged things in the pipes were...all this for $95! Great service! Highly recommend!

We had three estimates to replace our air conditioner/ furnace. Of all three companies we were most impressed with Hoffman. From the initial quote, Brian spent the most time and walked me through what needed to be done (our current unit was over 22 years old and needed some changes to be brought up to code). He came back to go over the estimate, the only company that offered that. The employees (Aron and his team) were professional and hard working. They protected the floors and were very unintrusive to the household. Would recommend this company

Awful experience all around! Called for a plumber to help find reason for high water bill. Plumber found no issues, did nothin and sent bill for $350 for service call.  Three weeks later we called a reputable plumber who fixed a leaky toilet for $115.  Called Hoffman to explain bill was excessive and they told me that they're plumbers are the best and pay the bill!  Never use Hoffman again!

It appears Higher paying jobs get the highest priority, while text updates to residential customers can last until as late as they realize they cant come out.
Their Website talks of professionalism and the care they have for customers....Its all marketing bullsh*t. I took off for this appt, lost wages to sit here for nothing. But? I could reschedule...for 5days later. Yall can seriously EffOff.

Zach was friendly, knowledgeable and professional.  Explained my water heater issue and provided options for the fix efficiently.  I am pleased with the service and look forward to my installation of a new water heater soon.

Also appreciate the quick appointment scheduling, a live Hoffmann bros service answered my phone call at 6:45 am before they opened at 7 am.

We had a pipe burst inside our wall on a Sunday night.  Within half an hour of calling the dispatcher, we knew their closest on-call employee was on his way to our house.  Tony showed up within another half an hour.  He was courteous, professional and very efficient.  The following day, the valve on our master water valve broke (this was not related to the work performed the night before).  Again, within an hour of calling, a plumber was at our house, fixing the problem.  Mike was also very efficient, courteous and professional.  He walked us through the issue and replaced our cheap valve with a much more dependable, easier to use option.  I would highly recommend Hoffmann Brothers for whatever plumbing needs you have.  I was very impressed.

I used to trust Hoffmann Brothers for quality and timely work but not anymore.  first of all i have 6 units in my house over 10,000 square foot home on 3 levels.  I had a unit break down and Hoffmann was responsive and came right out and fixed it.  The Technician then tried to sell me on an expensive service contract, we used to have one but felt it wasn't a good value so we did not renew because everytime they came the repairs were very expensive with or without the contract.  Anyway the tech tried to scare me into buying the contract telling me that 5 of the 6 units were old technology R-22 and that after this December they couldn't get parts and refrigerates (R-22) for the units that it was outlawed going forward.  Truth is they are still selling the R-22 units as long as they are manufactured before the end of the year, all parts and supplies are available for at least 5 more years.  Buyer beware.  I think we will be finding another HVAC supplier.

Terrible customer service. I called in the evening at about 8:00p due to smelling gas around my water heater and water that did not get heat beyond like warm. After several minutes with no answer, an operator finally answered. She could only take my information and said no techs were available to diagnose over the phone or come out for service. The operator had no information or technical knowledge whatsoever, just said that a service technician would call in the morning. I had to ask what time that would be and when the office opened. It was no more than an answering service for tech to call in the morning. A voice machine would have accomplished the same purpose as the operator. I received no morning call, so at 11:00a the next day called back. She seemed to have no record of the call, and I had to give my information all over again.

Again operator was not helpful or knowledgeable at all. She couldn't even schedule an appointment for a specific time, and only said the tech would text when they were within 30 minutes of location. When I asked why,  the operator said We don't limit our service technicians to appointments or some such nonsense. Total losers.

Hoffman installed a dryer vent in my home. They came out 2 times - once for the free estimate, and then again to do the installation. They were on time, polite, professional, and worked efficiently. Both technicians had great communication skills while explaining the method behind their work. I was very impressed working with this H/C company and will use them again for my next project.

Have had our electrical panel, interior and exterior heating and cooling units replaced, as well as our water heater. Regular maintenance, filter replacements, and everything is running smoothly. Also recommend the Wells Fargo credit line offered, the apps pretty easy to use and it's 0% interest for a few years so you have extra time to pay off unexpected repairs which has been great.
Only negative would be the drywall work around the panel but a little putty and sanding has it fixed up.

After 2 appointments and $95 I am right where I started.

I called Hoffman because I have a weird refrigerator and could not find a replacement for the gasket on my freezer. I gave them the product information and the tech showed up without a replacement gasket or replacement freezer door. He, instead, suggested that the problem was that I needed to thaw out the freezer completely. Of course, this was ill advised and after a second appointment they finally looked up the info that I gave them from the beginning and determined that they could not fix the issue. I was informed that, even though I told them I wanted the gasket replaced, that the $95 was for the technician's time. If Hoffman is paying their techs $95 per hour to hand out quality advice like thaw out your freezer then sign me up.

At best, Hoffman was just too lazy to do their research before my appointment. At worse, they knew they couldn't fix my issue and sent a tech to justify charging me $95.

The work that was done was professional and exact.  They had a special to diagnosis a problem for $75.  Well, that ended up costing way over $1,000.  I nearly fell over.  After they do it what can you do? I needed cartridges in 2 faucets. When I was handed the bill he sure did not forget to put the $75 diagnosis charge on it. I said you mean when you spend that kind of money you still hit people with $75.  I also mentioned when people spend over $500 it would be nice to have the $75. fee omitted.
I think if that was waived after spending this much it would have been easier to comprehend.  They are good but EXPENSIVE.  One other matter,  when the repairman comes in and I think he took his last puff of a cigarette and smells like an ash tray. YUCK,  I am going to ask for a nonsmoking repairman from now on. They also need shoe covers.

When I had a garbage disposal issue, I called Hoffmann Brothers to come out and take a look.  From a brief Google search, it turns out plumbing was also in their wheelhouse.  I was happy to call them because I had also been tuned in to the fact that Hoffman Brothers was very dedicated to animal welfare philanthropy and makes sizable charitable donations to a local animal rescue that is near and dear to my heart.  When a tech was sent out to assess the situation, he could not have been more patient with me showing me exactly what was wrong, and how I could trouble shoot the issue for any future scenarios.  They earned my respect and I will recommend them to anyone who needs any air/heat, plumbing or electrical repairs.

My husband and I woke up in the middle of the night to a warm house.  Our outside A/C unit was randomly turning off and on, and the air blowing from the vents wasn't cold. First thing in the morning I called Hoffmann Brothers and spoke with Angela.  She was very friendly and helpful and assured us a service technician would be to our house that day.  Our technician, Luke S., arrived a couple of hours later.  Luke was personable and after figuring out what the problem was, he thoroughly explained our options and fixed the A/C unit.  The cost was very reasonable and we now have a cool house.  So thank you Angela, Luke, and Hoffmann Brothers...we will definitely recommend your company and use you in the future!

I called on a Saturday for a leaking toilet and broken shut off valve...I had already purchased a tank repair kit but couldn't get the hose detached to install it. Jason showed up in about an hour and fixed everything in about 10 minutes...he even installed the kit for me. The entire job cost only $40 since I had a coupon. As an added bonus, Jason is a dead ringer for Channing Tatum! (no pipe jokes, please)

The service tec was great. Very friendly and did good work. But I was shocked by their pricing. They came over once to look at a few items but needed to leave without fixing the shower cartridge because he couldn't figure out the brand. He said he would send me the brand name if they located it and I could probably repair it myself. A few months later I got a call from them and they said they had the cartridge and were going to come out to replace it. I asked for a quote and they couldn't give me one over the phone. So he comes out and spends 15 minutes replacing a Gerber shower cartridge ($40) and then told me the cost was $480. I was pretty shocked and expressed as much and he said he would knock off the base service fee since I paid that last time so it was $380... again for a $40 pet and less than 15 min of work. I can tell you now I will definitely be learning to do all my plumbing from now on

Craig was professional, thorough, and friendly when called for a leaking AC pump.  He explained each step of the work as he went, and gave tips for general upkeep and future maintenance.  While a callback was needed the next day due to a hidden issue that wasn't uncovered initially, Craig did a great job uncovering the unforeseen problem and was able to remedy it quickly, and did not charge for coming back out to take another look.  I would recommend Hoffmann brothers for quality and reasonably priced service.

Hoffmann had no fix. They did not take care of me. After spending $428 and was told the part they replaced was not under warranty on my 2021 Lennox I was upset.

Called Scott Lee and they had the answer. Seems familiar problem has occurred before on other units. Why didn't Hoffman know this? In my opinion Hoffmann is not qualified enough and over charged on a part that should have been warranted. Hoffman did not take care of me.

Both our toilets would not stop running--on a Sunday, of course.  We did not want to wait another day (cost of water bill) so we called for repairs today.  The repairman called us and told me the cost of an emergency visit was $259--in addition there would be the cost of the actual repairs.  It turned out that we needed new supply lines, fill valves, and flappers for both toilets.  It ended up costing $528.  I thought that was pretty high, but we were willing to pay it in order to get it done right away.  Our repairman, Joe P., was terrific.  He arrived exactly at the time he said he would, was professional and explained all the charges to us, and did an excellent job--leaving the work site spotless.  I hope my next plumbing problem occurs on a Monday through Friday.  If not, I would pay the extra charge to get such good service.

Our dryer wasn't drying our clothes very well, so we had Hoffmann Brothers come out. The technician took some measurements, and said our dryer was fine, but there was a venting problem. He climbed on roof and cleaned out the screen on the roof outlet. That didn't fix the problem so he came out for a second visit and did a thorough cleaning of the vent. That didn't fix the problem. Another technician came out a third time. He took a bunch more measurements, and concluded that the length of the vent going up to the roof was too great, and the only solution was to reroute the vent to a side wall which would likely cost thousands of dollars. This did make much sense, as the dryer worked ok when we moved into the house 2  1/2 years ago. We paid Hoffmann Brothers over $900 for these three visits.

We called another company that specialized in dryer vents. They did 2 things: improved the connection between the dryer and the wall, replaced the vent pipe in the attic (Hoffman didn't even go into the attic), and replaced the cap on the roof vent. The tech mentioned that the vent was full of lint and that Hoffman Bros did not do a very good job. The dryer works fine now. We paid this company much less than what we had paid Hoffman Brothers -  only they fixed the problem.

OK, maybe we can give Hoffman Brothers a break, as their specialty is appliance repair, not vents. But they bungled an appliance repair for us.  We call Hoffman Brothers in between visit 2 & 3 of the dryer vent fiasco as the icemaker on the refrigerator stopped working. The technician came out and in the span of one minute concluded that it was unrepairable, told us we would have to buy a whole new door, gave us an estimate of ~$1000, and told us we would be better off buying a new refrigerator. The next month when during the third visit for the dryer vent, we told the tech, Scott, the icemaker story. He took the time to open up the icemaker and fix it. This was the only redeeming aspect of the service we got from Hoffmann Brothers

On the various visits, the Hoffman Brothers technicians advertised their home maintenance plan. Perhaps they are much better working with appliances that aren't broken.

Bottom line: find someone if you have appliance issues.

My experience with Hoffmann Brothers

Two years ago I spent about $10,000 for a new furnace.
Hoffmann Brothers installed the wrong one and had to exchange it.
Even though I'd written a check, they charged my credit card.
It took two calls to get my money.

In December 2022 I called and left word for my salesperson, Daniel, to call me about moving the intake and exhaust pipes in my attic. The unit here is an older one and will at some time need replacement. He did not return my callSeveral days later I called again and talked to Crystal and told her Daniel never called. She assured me she would check on this and was working into the evening.To date, he has never returned my call.

Now it is too late.I've contacted another company that responded in a timely manner.

If I could give them a zero I would. Totally incompetent. Haven't lived in STL for a year and are still getting invoices for services that were paid 11 months ago!!! We have called repeatedly and they tell us  it shows as paid and they're not sure why we keep getting these invoices!!! You would think that since they are a business they would be able to figure out their own invoice system?? Just got another one today, called and the woman couldn't tell me anything, was so rude to me, and when I asked her to please stop sending the damn invoices she told me to stop cussing at her (since when is damn a cuss word and it is deserved since they have been harassing us for a year, and hung up on me!!!  don't ever use these people- they clearly can't get their payments or services strait. Also NEVER use them for a home inspection- terrible.

I have reviewed this company several times in the past, and here again find myself acknowledging their great service and quality. Mike was at my home recently for a spring ac tuneup, and to fix a minor leak to an exhaust pipe that vents the furnace. Both jobs were completed quickly, and with superior results. Mike is very friendly (my dog Bailey seemed to agree), and is obviously skillful at his craft. I always feel confident that i'm getting the best whenever they walk through the door. This is a great company to hire for all your hvac needs.

I called and set up and appointment for someone to come and install my gas dryer that was already downstairs and remove the current dryer from the lower level of my home. They said that it is a 95 dollar service fee to come out and evaluate. I agreed to this and set up the appointment. They could not give me a set time to be there, so my grandmother had to be home alone for the visit. They charged her FIVE HUNDRED AND THIRTY THREE DOLLARS for the service. $95 service fee + $40 connector hose + $388 for the actual service. My grandmother does not know the going rate for these things and they took advantage of that. The highest bid I got after calling around was $250. They grossly overcharged us for their services and when I called to speak with someone they escalated me to a manager and told me I would receive a call same day. 5 O clock comes around and no one has called me, so I call and the response is she just logged off for the day and said she is unavailable. Extremely unprofessional. She then says all their prices are a set price. However- you cannot find these prices anywhere because they are only for their employees to see. That doesn't sound right to me- as she said they can't quote over the phone because every situation is different- how is there a set price than? I am disgusted by this gross overchargment and the lack of accountability on their part. I was literally told well we never said we had the lowest prices.

From office to plumbers, all were very professional and courteous.  The final plumber, Steve, took care of the leak.  I would give a 5 star rating, but the first plumber didn't have a tool needed for the job and admitted he should have had it on his truck.  Both times I was assured I would get a call 30 minutes in advance of the plumber coming, but neither time this happened.

The repairman just left. I wanted to be sure to sit down and write this as soon as possible. I am in awe of their service today. It is 32 degrees out and my furnace gave out today. I called and spoke with Diane. She informed me that most likely we were looking at tomorrow afternoon. i explained to her that I had a very sad circumstance going on in my home concerning my dog. I am not exaggerating, the repair man was there within the hour! I am truly amazed at this response. I am sure being the first real cold day of the season was overloading their service men and yet they managed to come over. I highly recommend them and thank you Diane!

I had Hoffman out to bid installation of an HVAC system on my building, nothing terribly complex but certainly not the cheapest possible option, and they basically told me that I wouldn't be able to afford the system they'd be putting together. I had laid out a pretty straightforward boiler system with DHW/hydronic heat exchange and a few loops and pumps and what not, and they basically told me the system I had designed was going to cost upwards of $45,000. We figured all of the material costs at less than $12,000 and probably 7-10 days of work for two guys. I'm not a professional engineer, but I'm also not an idiot. :)

Ironic when one of the best-known HVAC contractors in the city takes an attitude like that, and even more so when a $200/hr. charge goes to a business located in one of the poorest neighborhoods in the city. Way to be champs.

My A/C went out last summer.  It was a Thursday, and Hoffmann was only able to come out the following Tuesday.  In fairness, it was over a hot weekend.

It is a simple fix (under an hour visit), the guy was nice enough, and the bill for the $30 part and labor was $340 for the standard service call; I did not pay the extra $100 for faster 'emergency' service.  

A little steep, but that's pretty much the going rate for HVAC.

This summer, just over a year later, the exact part they installed shot craps.   It's just over a year since the repair, so no warranty of any kind, not even pro-rated.  That is the letter of their warranty contract, but it leaves a bad impression when, of all the parts in the A/C, the one they install breaks just over a year later.  

No more Hoffmann Bros. for me.

Hoffman installed a complete heating and cooling system on the first floor of my home. They definitely had some pre-existing obstacles to battle, but they did it with ease! The final install was very clean and professional! Brian, my sales rep, was very knowledgeable and did an excellent job answering all of my questions. He was very thorough when he went through the house to determine the work the installation crew would have to perform. Ryan and Alex, my install crew, also were very professional and courteous. They finished the install in the time they had allowed for and with zero surprises. From my end, it couldn't have gone any smoother.

Hoffman Brothers is THE BEST contractor I've ever worked with.  Repairs always come with being a homeowner, but I've never hired a company I was so completely satisfied with in every aspect of the process.  Hoffman Brother's work ethic, professionalism, knowledge and friendliness far surpassed previous companies I've hired over the 13 years in my home.
I discovered I needed a new furnace and water heater after my home was not able to get warm; water had been slowly streaming around both units.  In addition, the sinks in both bathrooms had begun to clog on a frequent basis.  I contacted a few companies, but ultimately, it was Hoffman Brother's that stood out from the rest. It was an added bonus to hear inspectors also mention the high quality of work Hoffman Brothers is known for when they came out to inspect.  
Tony, the plumber, was first out to unclog my bathroom drains.  After I told Tony this happens at least every year or so, he didn't leave until he made sure everything was in working order, even though that meant he had to look at other drains in my house.  He set the bar pretty high for everyone else that was scheduled.
       Steve M. assessed my furnace and water heater.  I've never had to make such a large purchase, but Steve walked me through everything.  His knowledge and expertise, along with my experience with Tony, sealed the deal.  I even decided to install a new air conditioner being that mine was over 20 years old.  With everything, the price was less than what another company quoted for only the water heater and furnace.
Joe R, and Kyle C. and Adam D. installed my furnace and water heater and I couldn't have been more pleased.  A purchase this large was scary in the beginning, but feeling like I had people who cared about the work they do mattered most and help put me at ease.  
      I appreciate everyone that helped me through this experience.  I know I made the right decision.

Really 2.5 stars and here's why,

Seem to do good work BUT they have poor customer service. My mom bought a service contract from them, and when she had a part go out shortly after a maintenance checkup, I asked questions about why the problem wasn't identified during the service visit. I was told that someone would get back to me in a day or two. Weeks later after no call back, I inquired again.

6 months later they called to schedule my mom's summer service and I happened to answer her phone. I asked why nobody had called me back, and the woman who runs the office apologized and then gave me attitude and got defensive when I asked about the value of the service contract. I had to tell her to stop cutting me off just to finish a sentence, and I was merely asking a few questions;  not looking to assign blame. What do I know about heating and cooling? Nothing, and I realize this.

Now I'm shopping around for a new company because my mom shouldn't have to deal with a company that can't appreciate a customer's reasonable concerns.

I'd use them if you must, but definitely shop around and look elsewhere if you have the time.

I'm requesting a refund for my mother and will find her another company to service her home.

Charged me $559 to install thermostats...and they didn't program them to work with the furnace! Then, had a guy do the tune up and he didn't test the thermostats! You can't make this stuff up. I can't tell if they are more incompetent or dishonest. Both, I guess. Take your business elsewhere.

We worked with Joe Hoffmann during an interior remodeling project and were pleasantly surprised by his approach to solving our HVAC problems.  Hoffmann Bros has performed maintenance for us in the past, and we've always been satisfied with their work.  While we've also worked with competitors who do good work, Joe really impressed us with his technical knowledge and honest assessment when estimating installation of a new air handler.  Instead of agreeing to do an expensive project that I was requesting, he recommended that we save money and take an alternative approach.  Joe's integrity and expertise have earned our future business, as well.

Hired an electrician from Hoffman and set an appointment on their first available day over a week out. They don't even give you a time window for service - any time the given day is possible. Got a call at 1pm on my appointment day saying they were too busy and needed to reschedule. If you're not properly staffed to handle a booked appointment then why offer one? I get that unexpected repairs can take longer than anticipated but giving a client an entire day window should mean that you will be there regardless. I took an entire day off work to be home for the appointment and now a day is wasted.

I had another plumber come in and tell me that my bathtub would never drain properly because of the shape of the pipes. Odd. Two days later, the tub clogged completely and we had standing water until I decided to call another (more professional) plumber.

Hoffman Bros sent someone over within an hour of my call to them on a weekday morning. He explained very clearly what the actual problem was, and was able to fix it within about 30 minutes! He even snaked the drain after clearing the clog, and was able to answer a few questions I had about other plumbing issues. Overall, my wife and I are very happy with the service we received.

I recently contacted Hoffmann brothers to look at my loft heat pump. The unit was having trouble cooling during the summer, and when I switched over to heat for the heating season, the unit would not supply any heat. The compressor was running only a few seconds before tripping off, so the problem appeared to be a low Freon level. I set up an appointment with Hoffmann for a convenient time, since the problem was a non-emergency. They ended up missing the first appointment until finally making it to the second. Not a huge deal.

As suspected the unit turned out ultimately to be one-pound low on Freon, which was enough to trip the compressor (the unit was relatively small). And the leak which was very slow, appeared to be from the fill connection which had a trace of oil on it and a broken plastic cap. So far, so good. The tech left to write up an estimate to replace the Freon and he came back and gave me an estimate of over $400 to replace up to 2 pounds if needed.

Needless to say I was taken back by the cost, and while I had heard the price of R-22 had gone up, I was expecting a lot less.  I was left in the position of paying or getting someone else, so I ended up paying. The final bill for showing up, putting in one pound of refrigerant, and two metal ¼ caps which the tech gave me for free, was $451.00. This price was after a discount for not showing up to the first appointment.

Later looking on E-bay, I found that you could still buy 30# of R-22 and all the necessary gauges and equipment to charge a unit for far less than the $400 that Hoffman charged for one pound. I have put this down to a lesson learned, but I recommend that you look elsewhere or at least get a firm price before they show up at your door.

I should add that I am a mechanical engineer and while I don't work in the HVAC industry I am not unfamiliar with it. I am also not an idiot. The tech also quoted me another $400 additional to replace the low pressure compressor switch, which retails for maybe $100 at McMaster Carr, if needed (it wasn't) I also asked what a replacement unit would cost (just killing time) and I was given an estimate of $12,000 to $15,000, for a unit that should be less than $5000. So I as left with the impression that they were hitting me for what ever they could and that I would not be doing further business with them.

We had them install a mini split unit in our STL home. Our central air wasn't strong enough to cool our upstairs, so Hoffmann put in 2 units--one upstairs and one on our badly insulated porch. They are working great, are whisper quiet as promised, and the installation was completed on time. The guys came out on a horribly icy day and got the work done. They had also recommended we have an electrician check out our system before they did the work, and it turns out we needed to install a sub panel, so we're grateful that we got everything done right. When we had questions or feedback, they were very responsive.

I scheduled an appointment for Saturday between 5-7 pm.  I received a call the Friday prior asking if I was available now?  Well, no I'm working, I have an appointment tomorrow.  Saturday at 3 pm I received a text stating they are 30 minutes out.  I called and told him I wouldn't be home until at least 4:15-4:30 but I had someone at home so he could start the estimate (which I was told when scheduling it would take 60-90 minutes total).  
He then proceeded to tell me, just so you know, I haven't given an estimate for less than $6,000 for the A/C or less then $6,000 for heating all day so your total would be $10,000 to $12,000.  I replied with, you haven't even looked at my house - I only need a 2 ton unit, my house is less than 1000 sq. ft, are you sure?  His reply I just don't want to waste your time or mine.  I told him don't bother coming.  As I told them when scheduling, I already have a quote for $5,500 for both units being replaced was hoping to get a comparison to make sure where I was at before hiring someone.  If one unit is automatically $6,000 why don't they just tell you that on the phone.  I think the guy was just being lazy and not wanting to drive to my home and do a quote.  I can't image Hoffmann being that much more due to the fact that I now have a second company who provided me with quote at/near the first quote of $5,500.  Very Disappointing.  I did call to voice my concern/complaint but only get customer service.  Said someone may want to call soon as I will be posting a not good review if I don't hear back soon.  I guess if you're reading this that tells you how much they care.

HORRIBLE experience with Hoffman Brothers. STAY AWAY. Here's why:
(1) Poor upfront communication. I asked for estimated costs for troubleshooting issue with water heater. Their response was $95 for someone to come and present solutions/costs to fix issue. When service technician arrives I'm told it's an additional $175/hr for diagnosis of issue. Why not disclose this upfront when customer repeatedly asked?
(2) Outrageous costs. I was quoted cost to replace water heater at over double costs of other local plumbers. They are very proud of their work and it is certainly reflected by costs.
(3) Poor responsiveness. When trying to share my experience with company, I get crickets. Poor business practice when you are ignored.

I would recommend Hoffmann Brothers to anyone in the STL area. Not only does Hoffmann Brothers provide excellent customer service, they also pride themselves in quality work. Hoffmann Brothers valued my needs and exceeded expectations. If you're needing any sort of HVAC work, Hoffmann Brothers is the place for you! Thank you again for being the best.

Called to set-up an appointment to get an est.for a new shower, sink repair and another repair. Was told that there would be a $75.00 charge for them to give me an estimate. I called two other plumbers and received free estimates. Picked the one that explained what he was going to do and why it needed to be done. Was very happy with the job they did very professional crew. $75.00 for an estimates. just aint right.............

I heard about Hoffman on the radio  Andy came out to my house and was awesome  my water pressure pump had quit working  he spent over an hour trouble shooting and then called the manufacturer and found out I was under warranty, which I didn't know because I just bought my house last year  his hard work and diligence saved me over 700 dollars  I would use them for anything on my house!  Andy was professional and so nice  he is the man!   Thank you so much for looking out for my best interests   Andy should be the employee of the year!

We recently switched to Hoffman Brothers after leaving a heating and cooling company we had been with for several years. They have done several large and small jobs in our home and the work is always outstanding. Our consumer confidence is restored knowing  that every system they have installed, repaired or upgraded performs at the highest level. We have purchased the Preferred Customer plan and it's the best decision we ever made.
Michael and Trent were the service technicians who installed new thermostats in our home today. They are extremely professional, polite, and knowledgeable and did an outstanding job. This is the norm at Hoffman Brothers, not the exception, and we had another excellent experience today.

Steve was prompt and professional.  He arrived on time and as he said he would.   He didn't try to sell us any thing that was not needed.  On a holiday weekend,  he made the stress level decrease with his efficiency. I would definitely recommend him to anyone.

Hoffman brothers provided amazing service! We had a worker named Jozo that was extremely detailed and went through everything he was doing to make us feel comfortable. He was the best! I would ask for him! They were on time and I felt like they actually cared about fixing our
problem the RIGHT way. I would recommend this company to everyone!

good news and bad news.

not putting hoffmann down at all because the problem got fixed but i don't think the cost was warranted.

our fridge ice maker/water dispenser was not working, hardly at all since we got it two years ago.

hoffmann came by, diagnosed the problem, then fixed the issue.

the tech was very nice, very personable.

my three stars reflects the cost. the tech was here, on the whole, for twenty minutes to actually fix the problem, about twenty minutes to diagnose.

a small, brass shut off valve was installed as a fix.

unfortunately the price quoted was just under $400.

we paid to have the issue fixed but after the work i looked up the part and i found it in several places for $10-$25.

so just under $400 for a, at most, $25 part and, at most, 45 mins of work.

but i guess you pay for the knowledge. regardless i found it expensive.

I have a well and a leak in the pipe of my incoming water service into my home so I called Hoffman.
Spoke to a representative and described the issue.
Like many companies they are busy and booked an appointment to make the repair a week later at 7:00 am this morning.
I received a call that said the technician called in sick ( completely understand how that could happen) and they would send a technician later in the day.
Received several calls this afternoon that the tech was on the way, then not on the way and another call to go over the issue again and just received a call saying I really needed a well company to make the repair due to a potential balancing issue .
I wasted a week and now have to find a company that specializes in wells.
Not happy!

Buyer Beware: If you make an appointment with Hoffman, be prepared for a scheduling nightmare. They're great at taking appointments; they just can't keep them. Nor do they communicate properly what to expect. My wife sacrificed an entire day waiting for an electrician that would never arrive that day. They promised a status call at 10 am and never called. Eventually, they said we should re-schedule. After hearing my wife's frustration, the rep said it was HER fault for not going about her day as usual. Chris Hoffman later explained to me they routinely have to cancel appointments each day. My advice to him was to let us know BEFORE we set an appointment with his company so that we can decide whether we want to waste a day off or find someone more reliable. My advice to you is to avoid Hoffman so you can avoid this anguish.

Chris Hoffman later offered 15% off and said they wouldn't charge to drive 8 miles to my house. I pleaded that our lost day was worth more than that 15%, but he disagreed. So we'll take our chances elsewhere and warn others of what you're in for.

I own a tanning salon and I needed someone to drop the voltage of my outgoing electricity from my transformer.  I called multiple electric companies and none of them understood what I needed done.  They all wanted to fix it by shutting down my salon for a day and doing about 10,000$ in work.  I knew there was an easier way for it get done.  I called Hoffman Bros and then they had their head electrician Mike H contact me.  He knew exactly what I was talking about and what needed to be done.  He met me at the salon at 7am and he rewired my transformer and had the voltage where I needed it by 8:30am and we were able to open like normal.  Mike was very knowledgeable, listened to my problem and was able to come up with a solution that was much more affordable.  I will be calling Hoffman bros and asking for Mike for all my electrical needs from here on out.

This company was great to work with-hands down, 5000 stars. The call center was amazing, as I had to reschedule an appointment last minute. The tech (Cole) came out and assessed the issue, got the parts in within the week, and came back and fixed the problem ASAP. He was very informative on what was replaced and why during both visits. I'm so happy that I know I can rely on HB for quick and friendly service in the future!

I think Hoffman Brothers just saved us, like, ten grand. We were sure that the furnace at our rental property was a goner, but the tech came out and suggested some reasonable repairs and maintenance so we could get the maximum life out of it. Really good about putting together estimates, doing exactly what they said they'd do, and sticking to the price tag. Very professional.

Be sure to ask for Jozo. First five minutes of talking to him and he admitted to being a bit of a boiler nerd. I believed him when, later on, he admitted to having read something in the furnace & boiler magazines he gets at home. Yes, their tech reads magazines about boilers and such in his spare time. So yeah, he knew what he was doing.

They probably aren't the cheapest in town, but very reasonable and worth every penny. I know 100% that this boiler will work and that my tenants will have heat this winter. Will totally call and use them again.

Needed some meter work done they came out assessed the work , explained well , had a slight hiccup about pricing and technique ,they addressed my concerns and made us feel comfortable . Very professional the crazy part is months later we get a order of hot boxs cookies show up to our door courtesy of hoffmann brothers heating , was a excellent surprise for no reason, they appreciate their customers truly. Thanks hoffmann cookies was delicious.

Only HVAC company that could come out on a days notice! That in itself is amazing when it's hot out! They have plenty of staff and you can tell they appreciate and enjoy working for the company. They are very professional and very good at what they do. If you want the best pros look no further. I love the business but I'm giving them 5 stars but my only minor complaints are for two reasons first reason is everything is expensive from the parts to the appliances to the major repairs, I guess what they say is to have it done right you gotta pay a little more. The second reason is they didn't want to work on my Lennox model air conditioning unit. I guess Lennox has more problems and is harder to deal with the warranty people, so my guy said they don't install Lenox's. That's totally fine because American standard is much better.

It's a pity one cannot leave zero stars!
Hoffmann Bros, St Louis sent a serviceman out to my condo 10.12.21 to inspect & service my HVAC system.  Jesse arrived and all went well and then he explained the Hoffmann Bros 'Home Protection Plan'.  In addition to a discount it was also to provide six HVAC filters and One Humidifier Filter that would be sent to my condo so that the filters could be changed every two months.  It was explained that the Humidifier Filter would not be sent and would be replace by a technician twice a year.  Cost of filters being what they are I decided to sign up for the Home Protection Plan.  
Almost immediately I was to discover just what a sham of an operation this company is.  
About two weeks later I was informed that the filters would be delivered to my condo by a runner, imagine my surprise when only three of the promised filters were delivered.  Thinking it was an oversight I called Hoffmann Bros on 10.29.21 explained my concern and was promptly transferred to the Home Protection Plan Dept.  I then explained my concern regarding the missing filters to the woman in charge.  She then explained to me that the cost of the filters for my unit was high and that I would only be receiving three filters and that I would have to pay an additional cost for the three missing filters.  
I explained that when Jesse called the Home Protection Plan from my condo he quoted them the size of the filters and then explained to me that all was good.  I further explained that this is what was promised and that Hoffmann Bros should honor their claim of providing six filters.
This woman, whose name escapes me, then proceeded to tell me that I could not expect Hoffmann Bros to in-cure the additional expense of said filters.  She then informed me that the filters for my condo had an additional cost and that Hoffmann Bros could not be expected to lose money on this and that if I wanted the other promised three filters then I would have to purchase them myself.
Needless to say I was completely shocked at this woman's shocking and condescending statements.  I was promptly dismissed and the call was ended.
On Monday 11.01.21 I called Hoffmann Bros and explained this woman's unbelievable attitude and statements and explained that I wished to speak with one of the owners, three brothers Robert, Chris & Joe.  The operator I spoke with appeared to be as shocked as I was regarding my encounter with this woman that handled the Home Protection Plan Dept.  The operator explained that she would forward my concern to the owners and that one of them would contact me regarding the disrespectful treatment I received.
Two days later the same woman from the Home Protection Plan Dept. called me and apologized for the mis-understanding.  Then stating that the other originally promised filters would be sent to me by a runner in a few days.  I simply said thank you and was promptly asked if I still wanted to speak with one of the owners, to which I replied yes.  She did not sound happy but said that 'Chris' would be contacting me.
On Friday 11.5.21 I still had not heard from Chris or one of the other owners so I called Hoffmann Bros again and stated that I was told that Chris or another owner would contact me and I still had not heard for any of them.  The operator explained that he would again forward my concern and have one of them contact me.  I explained that I was not going to be available that day and would he please have one of the owners contact me on Monday 11.8.21.  Today is Wednesday and I am still waiting to hear from one of these owners.
This company boasts about their pride and concern about providing the best possible service with the best people available via their recorded message every time you call them, talk about false advertising!    
My recommendation is to stay away from this company that has such blatant disregard for it's customers!

Gave an estimate for a job without understanding what would be needed.  The estimate was $2,300 higher...yes, higher than the other 3 estimates we got.  Which one of these is not like the other?  Also said our unit was 'unrepairable' which wasn't true...it was, for significantly less.   And there was sooooooo much pressure to sign like 'if you agree now, we can count your service fee toward the final cost..but only if you sign now'.  Um...no.  I would look elsewhere.

Our AC was installed by Paul S., Cole and William. They were very friendly, professional and explained everything they were doing.  Prior to installation, our tech Jim and program manager Chad explained our options to resolve our issue without any ridiculous upsell or high pressure sales. I would recommend Hoffmann Brothers for anyone needing their services.
