Our gas was off because the gas company found multiple leaks.  They over charged us $9.091.00.  For 40' of copper quick crimp line.  We have gotten other bids since then to the tune of $1,500-3,000.   We have a 30' house.
I have been told a company has bought out a bunch of Air/Heating companies.  I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM.  In process of getting this fixed.

Called Academy Air because of a clogged condensate line around 5:30.  They showed up around 10 PM.  They wanted approximately $350 to blow the line out... even though it's a service that would normally be included in the seasonal check that most HVAC companies charge less than $80 for.  In addition, Academy Air had an online coupon for $39 for any service which the service man refused to honor (said it didn't apply) I refused to pay such a fee, so I just paid his trip charge ($89) and sent him on his way.  Called and talked to the Owner the next day.  He said that the service man was not trained and he should not have charged $350, but only $170... plus he should have honored to online coupon.  He offered to send someone out again for only $170.... but he refused to give me credit for the $89 already paid.  If you don't need a company that will nickle & dime you, then you should probably avoid Academy Aire

Mike was very courteous and professional.  He explained everything about our A/C system in depth and in lay mans terms.  He was on time and accomplished the service work quickly and efficiently.  We really like his service and knowledge of his trade.

Academy Air provided a great experience. Highly recommended. I will use them again with any other future issues, if required.

Now for the details - The technician's name was Michael, and he was an absolute pleasure to deal with. I was allowed (even encouraged) to be witness to everything that was done. Michael was very knowledgeable, thorough, and informative. He took the time to explain each step and what was being evaluated. What's more, he was very open and honest about everything - listed recommendations and costs, discussed possible other avenues to explore if the work done did not achieve a complete fix, and was more than willing to explain his diagnostic approach. This technician is a gem, and I would recommend him to anyone.

As for the company - Academy's price for the service provided was more than reasonable. My service call was scheduled next-day, so speed was certainly a positive factor for review as well. Will use again, if necessary.

My complaint isn't so much with the system or the price, as it was the service. My system was installed last July. Was sold an upgraded system with the sales pitch of an Ameren rebate, one the contractor is responsible for submitting that I was quoted as totaling 500-600. They never did it. I called, texted, even called Ameren myself. For some reason, academy just wouldn't do what they say they would, after having used it to sell me on a system. Not to mention, the tech they sent, who was roughly 300 lbs(I've been heavy too, no judgement) but he struggled to get in and out of the work areas and had to use my wall to hoist himself up and without embellishing a bit, his hands were disgusting and left streaks all down my walls. After he tracked mud through, he watched me sit there with a steamer and try to clean the mud and said oh did I do that without apologizing or offering help. Use anyone else. And hey academy, feel free to submit for that rebate if you feel up to it now, it's only been like 18 months lol

The Electrician was very knowledgeable and professional.  He came by early on a weekend, diagnosed and explained the problems with great detail, gave us competitive pricing, and replaced our damaged electrical wires and panel in a timely manner.  Thanks again for the great service!

We appreciate the time Zack took to write. We believe in local and family owned businesses. We understand the cost of doing business. Bottom line for all current and future customers, buy your own filters whether online or in a retail store. You'll save 400%. Always question pricing that seems out of whack because you may be expected to pay for a lot more than your filters, for example.

I've upgraded the review to 3 stars because of the intent to repair the policy and procedures. There's no justifying a 400% boost in filter costs.

Just had my air ducts cleaned. I live in a 2 bedroom/1 bath condo, fairly small, and it took Academy Air about 4 hours (less time than I expected), though the technician was 30 minutes late.

The technician first looked to see if air duct cleaning was even needed (it was), though I got the impression that if it weren't needed, he wouldn't have charged me for the inspection (but who knows). He wore booties the whole time, so my apartment looked as clean as when he started, which is much appreciated.

Otherwise, it's air duct cleaning. In, out, wham, bam, thank you ma'am.

On 05/25/22, I had scheduled well in advance for the AC spring tune up for today and wanted morning scheduling, since I had a prepaid maintenance agreement.  When I called, they said they would try and made a note that I would be scheduled between 8am and 10am, but it was still not a guarantee as to the time.  Today at 1pm, I get a call telling me that they would not be able to provide service today, since they had emergencies and the earliest they could schedule would be August 3rd.  I explained the same situation happened in the fall but I had to call them after 4pm only to be told they would have to reschedule at a later time for the fall Furnace Tune Up.  Same scenario today, wasted most of my day waiting for them to show up only to be called at the last minute and get canceled.  I asked the young girl to help me understand... is it you're short staffed or overscheduled?  The girl tried to explain they had emergency calls with the recent warm weather.  I told her we only had one week of warm temps and you want me to wait until August?  She stated they are short staffed and are trying to hire more technicians and open appointments for Saturdays too and if they open appointments on Saturday, they would call me.  She guaranteed that if our AC goes out for any reason between now and August 3rd, it would be repaired absolutely free.  I guess a maintenance agreement, scheduling an appointment & my time has no value to them.  I paid for the maintenance agreement for preventative maintenance.  Who wants to have an emergency if their AC goes out and hope they will be available?  Perhaps I should request a refund for the prepaid maintenance agreement and move on to a reliable HVAC company.  I have been with them for 4 years and they were fine.  The last two appointments that were canceled is really giving me second thoughts.

Edit;  after seeing my original review, Academy Air's owner called me, set up the repairs for free, increased my warranty and included labor for 10 years.  For us that is standup business that will win our future business.  If you have issues with this company, talk to the owner.  He knew nothing of our original issues.  Thank you Academy Air

Jay D

So this is quite long but hopefully will save people some money.

Three years ago our air conditioner broke down and had to get a new one.  My wife and I got two bids and Academy Air was low.  They put it in and we thought that was the end of it.  After spending close to $4k one expects it to work and if history means anything, we should get 10-20 years of good service with minimal costs.  Not the case with Academy Air.  Three weeks after our new installation, our air conditioner quit working.  Called Academy Air and they came and determined the factory that shipped my new unit had let something not tightened.  They had the audacity to ask me for $1xx (sorry, do not remember the exact amount) to fix it.  I threw a fit and they fixed it for nothing.  Now, for the third year in a row, my air conditioner breaks down in the middle of summer.  Each summer it costs us $300+/- to fix our still quite new air conditioner.  Never again because now they want $700+ to solder something.  I am sick of this company and are in the process of finding a different contractor to repair our air conditioner.  Please do not just go with low bid and do better research than we did and find a good contractor.

I had a brand new air conditioning system installed in July. Since then I have had 5 service calls and of the month I've had the unit I've spent nearly a week with non functioning air. I've repeatedly expressed my frustration and today (after a 10 hr wait) another technician came out and once again has left without the problem being corrected. It's absolutely ridiculous that I've spent so much of my own time waiting for technicians and that my $10,000 unit has been nothing but headaches and hot air.

I will not only be not recommending this company, I'll be warning people that I know not to set themselves up for misery and hot flashes.

This is not how I conduct my business and Academy Air should be ashamed that this is how they conduct theirs.

I used Academy Air to replace our furnace a few months ago, and we had a great experience with Ben.  As new homeowners, we didn't know what we were doing and Ben was very helpful and knowledgable!  We recently had them out for some minor repairs and had another good experience.  That visit, Mike stayed and offered some other tips on how to keep things running smoothly.  They made the whole process easy from phone call to completion.  They always show up on time, are professional, and very friendly! We won't go anywhere else for our heating and cooling needs!

Updating my review from 2 weeks ago. They made things right. We appreciate that!  Corey, our technician, was very professional, here on time and left us with recommendations for the future. He was extremely nice and very knowledgeable regarding HVAC and electrical. Thanks again for fixing this. Highly recommend this company for any heating and air conditioning needs.

Ok. These 5 stars are exclusively for the owner Zachary S. for his commitment and honesty.

To start with, my experience with the front office guys was a disaster. I called the office, got a quote and scheduled an appointment for maintenance, thermostat and humidifier installation in my home. The guy showed up on time and explained me the same things as the front desk guys and when i asked him what he would install first, he politely replied that he don't have anything to install but can do maintenance checkup. What????? I was shocked...

I contacted front office and they apologized for the information gap between them and the technical person. I asked the technician to leave as i don't want to do business with people who don't care about their commitment.

That was the time i contacted Zachary S. and i must say that he was very prompt, knowledgeable and took the initiative to take care of my issue. I got a call from the Manager of their company after 10 mins and he scheduled the visit as per my availability 3 days later. The technician came and installed everything and it worked fine when we tested it. He was not having the auto sensors etc. which Zachary said that would be taken care as soon as they have it in stock and third visit was finalized to take care of that.

I had Carl visited my home that day and he went extra steps to take care of everything needed at that point plus he made sure that everything else installed previously was working fine. He found one of the issue and fixed it on his own. I liked the way he explained everything to me and did the extra stuff which he could have left as is because he didn't install it.

I would recommend this company to anyone and i know that Zachary has already some training and sessions planned for the team on the issues they are having and mitigate them internally. Also the company shouldn't pay the price for the staff mistakes as that's what everyone learns from.

Everyone makes a mistake...What matters is that who takes an extra step to mend that. They could have easily gone without replying to my emails / messages but Zachary became the face of the company and took it to the closure to satisfy their customer and i am happy to say that he has earned a lifetime customer for him. I have already referred some of my friends and will keep doing the same.

Recently we had a humidifier installed with a new thermostat.  The thermostat is nice because we can control it with our iPhone too through wifi.  House is much more comfortable now.  The installer was friendly and helpful.  Educated us on how it worked and showed us how to make adjustments through the thermostat to fine tune our comfort.  Oh, and the technician cleaned up too.

Customer service doesn't exist.  They say they have 24 hour emergency service.  Called at 9:00 AM on Saturday. Got an answering service who took info and said office was closed till Monday but they'd pass the info on.  After I had already called another HVAC service and had someone coming later in the morning, Academy called back and said they could have someone come on Sunday.
This is not the first time we've had scheduling issues with them. When we wanted an estimate on adding a dehumidifier, they could only tell us what day they'd come, which was several weeks away. The day before they were able to at least able to say afternoon. (Everyone else was able to set a specific appointment time!)
I'd give them a 1 star rating except that their service techs are great.

The company over charges!!! I was charged over 3000.00 dollars for an electric panel that should have cost no more than 2000.00. I called a few days ago about my furnace and I was told the part wouled cost 1500.00 so I should get a new one. Well I called Laclede and the replacement part and the labor was a grand total of 337.86 When they put it the electrical  panel it was done incorrectly but I didn't know and I thought my dryer had gone out so I bought a different one for 300.00. Once the new dryer was installed and it didn't work I called a local electrician and he informed me of the problem was the pane!!! I will NEVER call this company for any type of repair again. And I advise anyone in need of service to call your local gas or electric company FIRST!!!

Rated one star because no stars is not an option. This company is a bunch of robbers. I signed a maintenance contract and they do not show up for PM service calls, and they charge more than double for repairs. They installed a boiler for me and now they do not have service technicians who know how to fix it. They gave me an estimate for $2500 to repair it. I contacted Hoffmann bros and had it repaired in two hours for under$400.

Academy Air has been our provider for HVAC services for the last 7+ years.  Over that time, customer service has steadily decreased.  They replaced our furnace and a/c and thermostat and humidifier shortly after we moved into this house, so other than installations, it has been just routine service and cleaning......  that is where the problems arise.

We had a situation where a jumper wire was left on the furnace to override the thermostat....ok when you're checking & servicing, but not ok when you leave it there and customer can't control the heat!  They returned promptly to fix it.  Another time, the tech cleaning the A/C switched 2 wires and we couldn't get A/C when we needed it....they asked me if I had switched the wires on the unit.  Seriously?!

The techs seem to be better, but the way they run the business creates maximum inconvenience to the customer.  For a maintenance call, they won't give any kind of service window....just a day.  And for that day, you either have to be home...all day.... apparently 8 am to maybe 6 pm or after... or if you aren't home, you need to be able to get home within 1/2 hour of the tech calling to let you know they're on the way.  Seriously?  Everyone else I talk to says their company can get their scheduling down to a window of 2 - 4 hours.

We've also had some reschedules.  I understand that they may need to reschedule a general maintenance visit to accommodate a customer who is completely without heat or A/C during severe temperatures.  But, when they reschedule, they bump those of us on their service plans back to the end of the line!  As in, you may be rescheduled from today or tomorrow to 2 months later!   This means you might get your furnace tuned up halfway through Winter or later.  A friend asked me tonight, if they can't manage their schedules any better than this, how on earth do they manage parts inventory?  I honestly don't know.

I wish their name wasn't on my furnace and A/C.  It was a nice installation, but I'm eager to finish my current service contract with them so I can switch to one of the companies my friends and neighbors use, a company that values their customers and doesn't run their business in a way that maximizes their inconvenience.  There are too many good companies out there to bother with Academy Air.  Look elsewhere!

My family has been using Academy Air for the past 5 years. I don't know anything about hvac and only know when something goes wrong! Our units failed recently, I think because they are old, and Academy Air came out right away and presented us with newer options. I never felt like they were trying to just sell us stuff! It felt like they actually wanted us to have the best units for us and make the whole thing easy. Now everything seems to be working much more efficiently than before!

Like I said I know nothing about hvac so the most important thing to me is Academy Air's customer service which is always outstanding! If we call or in person they are always patient and kind and the guys who come out to our house have always been professional and efficient! They always answer our questions and are gracious about it. In this day and age I often don't find service like this anymore and it's refreshing and on top of that they do a great job!

I would definitely recommend Academy Air to anyone!!

We had Academy out for some electrical and plumbing work yesterday and Joe and Rich were great! Got some switches replaced, ceiling fan installed, and a water line ran for a refrigerator. Couple hours and we were good to go! It's awesome having electricians and plumbers all from one company. Made it easy to find what I need. (ignore the Christmas tree in the photo, lol)

They soldme a $17K mini-split heat pump for a small home and took 2 years and 15 service calls to get it functioning correctly and for the entire time, management inferred that I was being a difficult customer.  They eventually realized that their post installation of a condensate sensor, required after failing city inspection, was interfering with a thermopile.  This company only schedules a service dates rather than time slots so imagine waiting around your home for 15 days plus the hours of fumbling around, calling the manufacturer, distributor etc. because their techs are very nice but completely inexperienced with mini-splits. Additionally, they charge $600 to clean each inside unit which is needed every couple years. That's $2400 (3 wall and 1 ceiling cassette) for my 1200 ft house, but it gets worse.  My Mitsubishi system (outside fans) quit working because of a small blown protective fuse (They don't tell you to wait 5 minutes before switching from heating to cooling mode) The fuse is soldered directly to the main circuit board so it can't replaced, supposedly.  I have a 12 year parts warranty but Academy Air wants $1900 labor to install a new main circuit board and both fan motors, just in case they're faulty also.  (1Yes, they have no ability to test the motors because of the blown fuse.). WTF?  This company advertises constantly and talks a good game but they're seemingly dishonest and cannot be trusted in my opinion. . Did I mention that they installed a 40 gallon hot water heater rather than the 50 gallon on the contract and then accidentally flooded my basement while trying convince me to keep the smaller one.   I've been more than patient with this company and haven't started to speak out until now but I'd give Academy Air a zero if I could and suggest that you stay away.

I notified Academy that I had a steam boiler and that one of the Pipes
That extends out from the Boiler was leaking.  I needed someone to just
cut the Pipe and replace.  As of today I have had a Plumber and HVAC tech
out.  The Heating tech came out and said he needed the drain the boiler
I asked why I usually changed the Pipes myself for other that needed to be replaced.  I have had other companies replace piping but I have never had so many problems jsut trying to get a pipe replace,   Cut, retread ad union.  That simple.  The furnace does not need to be drained .  This company is trying add time change.
I think That I will just call a plumber, which is what I should have done anyway.

The company is pretty responsive and show up on time but they are CRAZY EXPENSIVE.

I thought I would be a lifetime customer of this company but it seems that something has changed with this company recently. They recently completed a repair on my water heater. The 1 hour of labor (if that) and $10 thermocoupler cost me $350.

When I called to ask if the pricing was right the office told me they completed 2 other repairs (which weren't done). I was promised a return phone call from a manager to discuss three different times and still, no return call.

I would not recommend using them to anyone anymore unless you have a crazy emergency and you need a same day service call and money is not an issue.

I am extremely impressed with every single interaction I had with this outstanding outfit!

My wife and I started off this winter with a very sick heater unit that required a decent amount of work just to limp it along. The initial tech came out and evaluated both our sick unit as well as the other aging one and provided professional, unbiased insight on each. In order to help us along in our decision, the technician provided a cost breakdown for several levels of repair effort in order that we could make an educated decision. He also let us know that we could pursue a charge-free consult if we'd like to understand our replacement options. He did not steer us in any direction so we did not at any point feel pressured.

The next stage of our evaluation consisted of our main point of contact, Brian Kremmel, whom was the sales rep/another of many technical gurus on Academy Air's team. Brian, myself and my wife went from room to room measuring each space and respective windows, etc. Brian performed thermodynamic hand calculations on the spot to determine multiple options tailored to our needs. He provided a thoughtful solution which yielded an efficient unit that held temperature via a continuous, variable speed fan with only the required coils to complement fan speed. Brian was witty and kind with his practical, down to earth explanations which assisted our understanding of our current unit versus the options he proposed.

Finally, Academy Air's installation specialists were very courteous of our living space and respectful in our interactions. When they realized a part was missing, they were overly apologetic and humble of the circumstances outside of their control (i.e. this was a manufacturer mistake). In order to console any inconvenience, Academy Air offered up two space heaters at their expense to help get us through Sunday.

All in all, Academy Air provided an easy and informative experience which enabled us to make an educated decision with expedient, professional service. We are very happy to have selected them and feel as though we have a partner in air for years to come. Great job!!

We discovered our drain had backed up last night and we used a shop vac to get the overflow of water sitting in the basement. I had called a plumber in the afternoon to determine the issue; fortunately, Academy Air-Plumbing was able to get a same day appt within a couple hour after my call. Their customer service representative notified when a technician became available & even contacted me to inform me that the technician was running 25 min late due to the traffic. The service technician, Elijah was professional, respectable, kind and knowledgeable explaining their troubleshooting process with plumbing. Elijah was able to assess and fix the issue in my home. He even offered advisement on to how to minimize future backups in the floor drain and wiped off the area he utilized. I highly recommend Academy Air-Plumbing to handle my plumbing needs and Elijah provided excellent service.

I posted the previous review on Saturday.  On Monday morning a project manager from Academy Air called me and agreed that the $875.00 price quoted was way out of line.  He said there was obviously a problem with their pricing data base and thanked me for bringing it to light. He was very apologetic for the mistake and gave me his cell phone number and offered to correct any problem that may occur with the Lowe's installation. He also reinstated the service credit I had to use to pay for the incorrect quote.

A final note:  The Lowe's technician arrived minutes after my phone conversation with the project manager. He removed the old faucet and installed the new one in 25 minutes. He did an excellent job.

Highly recommend Academy Air. Their technician (Michael L) was called by us at 10pm because our AC was blowing warm air on an incredibly hot and humid day. He arrived a bit after 11pm and  you would have thought I was his first thing in the morning customer... He was pleasant, courteous, efficient, and professional. We were fixed within a half an hour. My 17-year-old son even commented on what a great guy he was!  A few years back, we had our heater installed by Academy Air and when the inspector came to sign off, he said something like oh I probably didn't even need to come with Academy Air putting this in.  If you are in need of Any HVAC, give them a call... and request Michael L. You won't be disappointed!

I've been a customer for over 20 years. I have purchased 2 a/c's, 2 furnaces and have had cold air returns installed during those years. I was also a service agreement customer ($240) and have spent ~ $20K in the last 4 years. When Terry the father was owner, customer service was second to none. But since the son became owner it has gone downhill. I purchased a new a/c back in May. The techs did a decent job installing it. The issue I have is with customer service and the service manager. I was having an issue with the new a/c compressor occasionally hearing a loud squealing noise upon start up.  I called customer service to set up an appointment to have a technician come out to check it out. I was told there would be a service charge for the visit. Remember that I paid $240 for a service agreement. After I complained, the rep put me on hold for several minutes. When she came back, she said I did not have to pay it. She than scheduled an appointment for the following Monday. But no window. They expect you to wait at home all day. Monday came and after waiting all day the technician was a no show. The next day when I called customer service I was told the appointment was never made. I requested a call from the customer service manager to explain how this happened. I never received a call.  Another appointment was made for 2 days later.  This time the technician showed up and said he didn't find anything wrong. And then he proceeded to tell me that the service manager said to tell me that if I have someone come out again and they don't find anything wrong I would be charged a diagnostic fee. Really?!  I guess being a loyal customer for 20 years and spending $20K doesn't matter. You still get treated like crap. One more thing. It's been over 3 months since I purchased my a/c and they still have not submitted the paperwork to Ameren to receive my rebate. I will never do business with them again.  And I recommend you don't either.  If I knew this is how I was going to be treated, I would have purchased my a/c from another company.

We are very pleased with the service we received from Academy Air. Our air conditioning broke-down on Saturday July 4. We called the company (they will go un-named) that we have our service contract with and they told us if they came out on Sunday that the cost would a weekend upcharge, that we wouldn't get our service contract discount, and the service run would be at least $200 more than if they came on Monday. As a result of that nonsense, we called Academy Air early Sunday morning. They came out within 1.5 hours of our call and without any weekend upcharge. They quickly diagnosed the problem with our air conditioner. They had all of the parts needed on their truck and quickly fixed our unit. They service technician was very informative and professional. We are extremely happy with Academy Air and purchased a service/maintenance agreement with them even though our service with other agreement had not yet expired. We recommend Academy Air.

I was very surprised to find a place that could not only do the plumbing work that I needed but was also able to address the electrical issues I was having along with any HVAC I may need as well.

I called Academy Air first in order to get a problems I was having with my hot water pressure fixed. I had already called in 3 other companies and was often told that I needed a PRV installed and that may help the hot water pressure as well as the hissing in my toilets and my poor pressure to the reverse osmosis filtration.

When Academy came out, the plumber immediately started assessing the issue and let me know that he wouldn't recommend installing the PRV and that it would most likely make the problem a lot worse. He showed me from turning some valves on and off that there was an insane amount of calcification in our hot water heater and that the recently installed FloTech would not only break that down but probably cause the calcified pipes to start leaking. We had no other option but to replace the hot water heater and he said if that didn't work it meant the pipes running to the second floor were 1/2 and not 3/4 but to try this first.

The new hot water heater system worked! The pressure for my hot water is the best it's ever been, I can now run tubs, dishwasher and washing machine at once with no issue with a change in pressure. It didn't fix the toilet hissing but he said it was unlikely to do so but we got our toilets replaced a few weeks later and that issue was fixed too.

We also had new appliances installed and my new fridge was pulling too much power so we called Academy back out and they found out that we needed a new dedicated outlet ran to the back of the fridge since it was previously linked to a GFI that kept tripping. He was also able to assess that the other GFI that went out permanently just needed replacing.

I couldn't be more satisfied with the results. My fridge doesn't cut off after 5 minutes anymore, my hot water pressure is amazing and we don't have any more calcification issues. The job was done efficiently and fast and I am very happy we went through Academy for these repairs. They were honest and didn't do anything that wasn't going to help me, unlike the other plumbers who came out and kept pushing the PRV and hot water heater together.

Heads up with this place.  Saw them on TV. They did get a great rating from B&B  Took them over a month to get out there.  The serviceman was supposed to clean the furnace, air cleaner, and humidifier.  He spent forever downstairs then came up with THE SALES PITCH!  Everything was working fine; so I didn't get it.  Usually, repairmen just check your flames clean the furnace and off you go.  This guy went up inside the furnace and said pinholes in the secondary and we were so lucky to get it in time.  Carbon Monoxide.  I googled and what I saw was that people still hadn't exchanged their heaters that were 100% worse than mine.  Pencil point size.  He also said I should change out my air conditioner at the same time.  He actually turned off my furnace and was leaving me.  I was so sick at the time.  He never cleaned anything.  I have an extended warranty and said I would check with them.  The next statement from him was that he would give me a FREE furnace if he was wrong.  Out the door, he went.  I ordered 3 carbon monoxide monitors from Amazon.  The warranty place said that is totally common on furnaces that are older than 3 years old.  He said the man should have been looking at flames.  Now they are calling me to see when I want my new furnace and air.  Told them today do not call me back.

My opinion of the workers just sank. Previously they came out to do the air conditioner maintenance and said I needed to REPLACE my central AC. I ran into a financial problem which is why I was calling (see previous review).
I had not turned it on and decided it was too hot not check out how well the old one still worked. It worked GOOD. So I hired another company to check it out, and they said my AC was FINE, and that there was NOTHING WRONG with it. I'm never hiring these people again. I was a long time costumer and they try this!

Two days ago we realized we had a problem with our hot water heater and made the call to academy yesterday morning to have someone come in to service it. Long story short, Brian was here this morning despite traffic and bad weather conditions exactly when he said he would be. He had David here to replace the entire unit within a few hours. Both men were careful to protect the house (as they had to push heavy pieces through the entire upstairs and into the basement), instal the unit, and clean up behind them. It was a job extremely well done and we are thrilled with the professionalism , quality, and service experienced today. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

By now you've probably have seen their advertisements on television but we've been doing business with Academy Air for over 15 years and can attest that the use of expert in their name is accurate. Replacement of hot water heaters, furnaces, air conditioning units and continued biannual inspections from Academy Air has kept us comfortably content in our home. Everyone that we have come in contact with at this business has been professional, informative, as well as congenial. We can't praise them enough and highly recommend their services.

Our AC stopped running in the dead of Summer. We called Academy Air and they got to us within 24 hours and fixed the problem. We signed up for their maintenance program also, it's a great deal and we have old systems so it was a no brainer for us. The technician was very polite, friendly and helped us understand what was wrong with the system. I love this company and will absolutely recommend them to all my friends and family.

I called for service last Friday morning after my furnace started acting up.  I cannot say anything negative about the phone staff as they were wonderful and worked with me to arrange an appointment around my work schedule.  Similarly, the tech was professional and very nice.  Unfortunately, despite those positive aspects, I will not be using this company again nor will I be recommending them to anyone and that is because I believe I was completely gouged on the price.  I'm not familiar with furnace parts whatsoever, so am at the mercy of what I'm told.  And unfortunately when it's cold you don't always have the luxury of time to get a second opinion.  I was charged $389 for a capacitor that I later discovered (after asking around and researching on the internet) probably cost only $10-20 max.  Even if you factor in the 20 min time spent replacing it, this is a ridiculous overcharge.  I wish I would have thought to google it while he was there, but again, I took the tech at his word since I'm not an expert.  Never again.  I understand a company has to have somewhat of a markup on parts to ensure profitability, but that much of a markup seems unconscionable to me.  I could not trust this company again and if you use them, be sure to investigate the pricing of parts before agreeing to use them.

Academy Air was the only HVAC service that was willing to offer us emergency service during the heat wave during July '12. Everyone else told us it would be a week or longer, even though we mentioned that we had a baby at home. Academy Air made adjustments and had a tech at our house within 10min of our phone call. Academy Air is awesome!

Horrible lying tech, useless. Tried to rip us off for 4000. For repairs. My outside ac unit was working but blower was not working. He lied through the entire process from 500.00 per pound for r22 freon. It is about 20 percent that amount. When he left, my outside ac unit was not working, it was working prior to his visit. Fraudulently signing my name to invoice and credit card charges. Did not ask me to sign, ,he did it and left. Told me to sit down than tried to pressure me into a 4000.00 repair job or 15,000 for new unit. He was not happy when he left. I guess because I would not allow him to take advantage. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE. ALL ABOUT SALES AND MONEY. MY AC WAS WORSE WHEN HE LEFT. SABATOGE MAYBE? I CANT PROVE IT BUT NEVER KNOW.

We have used Academy Air for many years.  We knew we would be needing a new furnace and decided we should shop around, so we talked to and requested quotes from other companies.  We put the project on hold for a few months, with the knowledge that pricewise, the other options were not that much different.  Some a bit higher, some a little lower.
Last week, after our yearly furnace check, with updated information in functioning, we decided it was time to act on replacing our 17 year old furnace.  The next day we sat down with Brian from Academy Air and discussed our options. There was no hard sale.  There was no pressure to buy a furnace if we preferred to repair or even to do nothing but wait until the furnace failed.
We knew we wanted to replace the furnace as it was, what we felt, the best option. Helpful to our decision on which type of furnace, Brian instructed us on three types of furnaces and explained the benefits, pros and cons of each.  He was patient with our questions, was informative and factual.  Brian gave us plenty of his time as he understood that replacing a furnace is a big and expensive decision.
Our new furnace was installed a few days later.  We are happy with our decision, and especially that we acted before the cold snap hit with the confidence of having an efficient, safe furnace heating our home.
Could we have purchased our furnace from one of the other companies we had quotes from instead of Academy Air?  We could have. However, for our family, customer service, reliability, respect, transparency, and dependability are the difference between just making a purchase and having the confidence that we have made the best decision not only on the equipment but also the service and follow up.

Two days after our below OP and thereafter speaking with two representatives of Academy Air, one of which being the owner, we received in our mail a refund of all monies we were out of pocket due to our poor experience.  The swift actions on Academy Air's part, after a poor experience, reflects they are a Company who does care about customers and does take steps to correct valid issues.  The immediate response from Academy Air, the concern that was exhibited and the outcome shows integrity on AA's part.  We will use them in the future and recommend them to others due to their good faith efforts.

New owner is still a good person as near as I can tell. The employees continually impress with incompetence and I will never use them again. AC cut out so I called after the owner made good on yelp. Tech comes by well I can't isolate the problem  but its electrical. My options were replace the the external wiring, the external and internal wiring or the whole unit. 1k 2k and around 5k respectively. OK send a rep over we may need a new unit. Meanwhile my wife calls Joe Schmo from you've never heard of us HVAC, 20 minutes in Sir, I see the problem. Sure enough I see a charred black wire with frayed insulation. I have no training in HVAC or electrical but it was OBVIOUS that was the problem.

Asking the gentleman what the damage is, well $150, (sharp departure from a few grand) but there may be more damage from shorts. Long story short there was a second damaged part he replaced for free as a result of the electrical shorts. Academy's tech not only said pop the breakers until it dies because the unit is almost dead (pregnant wife at the time) but doing so would do no damage to the system as a whole. Sure enough it did.

I wouldn't trust this company. When they came out I figured my unit was toast so i signed a service agreement that I paid a couple hundred for to get a discount. I will not allow them to complete the service agreement on my units. Its that awful. I'll toss away a couple hundred dollars before their incompetent hands do basic preventative maintenance on my units.

I see a trend Zachary. You are a good man, your inherited company kinda sucks.

We've now called Academy Air twice, and both times Michael was our tech.  He is courteous and professional, and did his job well.  The first time we called he came promptly and explained everything involved with our furnace problem, then fixed it that afternoon after running to pick up the part.  The second call was to examine damage to our air conditioner that was caused when another contractor was working next to the unit and hit the freon line.  He explained the extent of the damage and estimated the costs involved with the repair, then we talked about possible replacement since the unit is 15 years old and uses the old freon that will no longer be made after 2020.  Will update this review after we make a decision and have the work/replacement done.

I recently wrote a review for Academy but Yelp has said that it violated TOS because it sounded to much like another review.  The review that they said it sounded like was my fathers who is not a regular Yelper like myself but felt as if the work provided was so far under par that he decided to make a review.  The review that I gave was in fact similar to his.  My name is listed on the ticket and my number was listed as Academy as tried to contact me directly to hear my concerns (again).  You may read Dave L review understanding that before he wrote the review tried to contact Academy directly.
Academy has been the go to for a family friend for a while so naturally my father decided to give the company the benefit of the doubt to fix the situation.  Staff tries to explain that they are by no means combative have really never fully explained their side.  I appreciate the effort of calling after a review of mine was posted, but we tried before a review was posted and still nothing.

Called at 4:00 on a Thursday, had it fixed by 5:00 same day!  Unbelievably lucky to get such fast service, I'm sure this can't be expected normally. Service tech Rico was very professional and courteous, insisting to wear booties over his shoes. Quickly identified it was my capacitor that was kaput and had one on truck to replace it. Even had dog biscuits to befriend my dogs!

Prices were reasonable. I would definitely use them again!

We used Academy Air for a very irritating electrical problem with our bathroom lighting last week, and Phil, the electrician came out to do the work. Phil was so professional and knowledgeable about not only our bathroom lighting problem, but the electrical system throughout our entire house. Because of this experience we have decided to use Academy Air for all of our electrical/heating/cooling/plumbing needs. Thank you Phil!

Customer service was great - I called on a Saturday when my heat went out and they had someone out in an hour WITHOUT an emergency or weekend fee. They made me feel really safe with their service technician as the office and he personally called to let me know he was on his way. He was super thorough and extremely informative - and I liked that they are paid hourly not by commission so I didn't feel like he was a salesman in my home. He made sure I understood what was going on before he left and made sure to handle all the nuts and bolts.

He did have to order the part for me, but once I did my own research, I found the part was a third of the cost. This is typical in the field as you are paying for labor not the part, fortunately for me, I have a friend that is HVAC certified and could come put the part in for free so I didn't actually use Academy Air's services to install the part - but anytime I have an emergency or anything else, I will be returning to them. Great, friendly service, and I didn't feel like I was being cheated or used.

I am a long-time customer who also subscribes to Academy Air's Extra Privilege Service (EPS). My EPS annual furnace visit today was perfectly fine, and the technician was very customer oriented.  He identified an issue that could pose a problem later, specifically a noisy draft induction motor and a 12-year-old hot surface igniter.

On 11/1/19, they sent another pleasant technician to replace the old parts in less than an hour.  Academy Air really knows how to treat it's long-time customers.

Disapointed ! After purchasing a new Air Conditioner, Furnace and Water Heater  they did a Maintenance Check on the Air Conditioner which is making a vibrating, rattling noise inside and a noise on the outside of the unit. The service people said it was just the way the unit works and if any work was performed to fix it  it would void the warranty. The unit is only 3
years old. Maybe we should have not purchased the American Standard brand, which they recommended. The service tech also said he would check with the owner to see if there was anyway it could be fixed without voiding the warranty and that he would call. It has been over one month and have not heard anything back from Academy Air even after giving a unhappy rating.

Let me tell you about this company Academy Air. My family has been lifelong patrons of one of the other guys, so when I bought my house it was just natural for me to follow suit.  After all, these companies are all essentially the same, right? Wrong!
When the weather got cold over the weekend I had to breakdown and turn my heat on. The only problem was my furnace wasn't producing any heat! I called my company, which I had been using for years, and was basically explained that my problem was not quite an emergency so I would have to set an appointment for almost 4 weeks away!
The next morning I called Academy Air on a recommendation from a friend and was pleasantly greeted by a lady over the phone that portrayed sincere concern for my problem. Even though my situation might not have been an emergency the care she showed made me feel as if I was just as important as any potential customer that may call. She explained to me that there was a technician in my area and that they would be able to see me right away!
When the technician arrived at my house he was beyond polite and very considerate of my home. He was also very patient while I calmed down my dog. Within minutes he was downstairs giving my furnace a thorough inspection and in a short amount of time he was at the root of the problem and explained to me exactly what needed to be done and gave me the option of having him do it right there with my permission. After he fixed my problem he gave me a list of preventative measures I can take that would help prevent these type of issues from occurring again and also left me a plan of more professional preventative measures that he would be able to come back and do for both my AC and furnace that can extend the life of my system for years to come.
I know that the coldest weather is not here yet but living in Missouri we all know that can change at the drop of a hat and thanks to Academy Air I have the peace of mind knowing that I will be ready for whatever nature throws at us. Take it from me when I say customer service and a little bit of care can go a long way. Academy Air has definitely earned a new customer out of me and I believe my family's allegiances are soon to follow!

Have used them for a long time. Tried my fair share of cooling companies MANY were cheaper but none delivered like these guys. In 12 years of twice yearly visits I've only ever had one minor billing issue and when I called about it they took care of it immediately. I recommend them to all of my friends and every one of them that has used them has thanked me for pointing them to these guys. My favorite tech is Ben, he is absolutely awesome. I hope this helps.

Academy Air is great! We woke up at 7am on Thursday and our air conditioner had decided to stop working overnight. The high temperature predicted that day was in the 90's. We were sure we'd have a hard time getting someone out to look at it, but my husband called them and they were out within 30 minutes of his call.

Long story short we ended up with a new air conditioner (ours was really old). They came back Friday morning to do the new install.

Kudos to Academy Air!

My heater stopped working so I called them to take a look at it. They were really professional on the phone when I called to make an appointment. They showed up on time and in a professional manor, but this is where thing took a turn for the worst. After working on my unit for 10 mins, it was determined that I need a new heater. They tore the metal casing of my unit back because the technician was determined to prove that my heating element was cracked, but was unable to show me a picture of the crack in the unit.
They had another sales rep show up within hours to quote me for a new unit. Upwards of 5K for the replacement.

Good thing I called another company for a second opinion otherwise I'd be out 5K for no reason.
The rep from the other company just turned my blower motor speed up and that fixed the problem right away.

This was six months ago and it's still running strong.

Don't waste your money with this company if you are looking for a repair. They are only in the business of selling new units, they don't care about repairs. Also, always get multiple quotes!!

I still had to pay the service fee for no repairs and an expense of quote. Also let's not forget they completely damaged my metal casing on the unit and now it looks terrible.

I've had services through this company for the last few years and have recently been very disappointed.  Their scheduling and customer service leave much to be desired.  I recently had two appts scheduled, the first of which was canceled due to weather (mind you - this is after they mistakenly moved my appt to 8 instead of the 9-11 slot that I actually agreed to).  I was rescheduled for the next week.  I received one call from them on Friday, telling me that the appt for 8 had opened up (I was again scheduled for 9-11) and asked me to call back if I wanted that slot.  Because I didn't want that slot, I didn't call back.  There was no information provided that indicated that this was necessary for the appt.  The next morning, at 10:23, I received a phone call saying that I needed to call them back w/in 15 minutes for the service tech to actually come to my house.  Because it was a Saturday, I was doing errands around my house and took 30 minutes to call back.  The office had already closed.  I was paged through to an emergency line, where I was informed that the service tech. had gone home for the day.  I was told that I would be called the next week for rescheduling.

Two weeks later, I had to call them to schedule.  I expressed my discontent to the customer service rep., who informed me that she remembers calling me multiple times on Friday w/out response and also sending an email.  My call log verifies that I received one phone call pm Friday (despite her memory), and I pointed out to her that the email address they listed was incorrect.  There was absolutely no assumption of responsibility for any of this mess, which didn't make me thrilled.  I'm also not thrilled about them not arriving at my house.  I am a responsible adult who, when I schedule an appt, plan to be there and expect the scheduled person to actually show up as scheduled.  After my contract expires, I will definitely go elsewhere.

I scheduled an AC appointment with this company two months in advance. The appointment was confirmed two days in advance. The day of the appointment I received a call stating they need to reschedule for a full month out due to being overloaded with other appointments. When I requested to speak with a supervisor there was none available. I requested to speak with a different representative and was told there were none available. It is almost June. This company is a scam. Unprofessional and unreliable.

Used these guys a few weeks ago.  The temperature had dropped from like 70 to 19 in a matter of hours, and of course the freezing rain started around the time I realized my heater wasn't working.  Shawn was at my house within an hour.  He had me up and running within 30 minutes.  I hope I never need to have my heater serviced again, but if I do, I'm using Academy Air.  Great service, fast service, fair price.

Recently I had a problem with my air conditioning unit during 100 degree weather.  As a new homeowner I didn't know who to call or trust.  I had called my parents, and asked who they used and tried to call that company and they didn't answer.  So I called back 20 minutes later and they said it was going to be up to a week before they were going to be able to come to my house and check out my air conditioning unit. So next I looked online to find someone good and trust worthy.

Then I came across Academy Air, and gave them a call. I was expecting them to tell me it was going to be a week or so before they could get to my house.  To my surprise they told me they would be out in under an hour.  When the service technician arrived he was very helpful and professional.  I showed him the thermostat and how it wasn't getting any colder in my house.  I gave him a quick view of where the inside and outside units were and he got right to work to give me a diagnostic.

After about 25 minutes of looking and working on the outside unit he knew what the problem was. He told me that it would only take him about an hour to fix the problem coils.  While he was working on the ac unit, he had a different technician drive and drop off a part he needed to expedite the process. After he was finished I was happy with the price and the amount of time it took them to fix my air conditioning problem.

Academy Air made me feel like I was part of the family, with their speedy and great work.  In the future, I won't have to look for a heating and cooling company.  I will know who to call right away if I have any other problems with my HVAC system. Thanks again Academy Air.

These folks had taken good care of me in the past when I had problems with A/C, Furnace or Hot Water Heater, so I turned to them when my 18 Year Old Hot Water Heater died on Tuesday.  We scheduled an appointment for Thursday to replace it.  The technician showed up, estimated a price, then called his boss and was told we're not doing hot water heaters, so he left.  I REALLY don't understand why they offered to do the work and scheduled an appointment if they don't do hot water heaters.  The technician then told me that he would very kindly waive their fee to diagnose the problem.  I decided to waive the ass-kicking I thought they deserved for making me endure two additional days of cold showers for no reason.

We needed to replace our low-efficiency furnace and water heater after finding out they were vented to the old chimney and were not up to code when installed.  Brian was very courteous and thorough during his walkthrough for the estimate.  He found issues in the ductwork that were overlooked by other HVAC companies, and honored Academy's policy to match the price on a lower quote.

The contractors showed up and completed the work promptly, kept their mess to a minimum, and clearly explained all the features of our new equipment.

We'll definitely keep them in mind for future projects.
