This is a total scam. I paid the $80 dispatch fee for an electrician to quote me $600 for roughly 15 minutes of work. I needed one light switch reconnected. These people should be shut down. Run away!
I asked three HVAC contractors for estimates to run ductwork from a new range hood through my roof. The range hood that I had planned on purchasing had a CFM range from 350 to 900. Service Today sent a technician out to give me an estimate to do the work. I mentioned that I had heard that the maximum CFM allowed was 300, according to the City. Service Today, after looking at my furnace room, assured me that putting a 900 CFM unit in would be no problem, and gave me a quote to do the venting. As they were cheaper, by quite a bit, and seemed professional. The second contractor said that I could not install a hood with the 900 CFM rating. At this point I called The range hood company to put a hold on my hood order, as I thought maybe there was some merit to the CFM restrictions. I also called Service Today and spoke with Ashley. I told her my concerns and that I was holding the range hood order. I asked her to check with the city to make sure their work was according to code and that it would pass inspection. She said she would find out and get back with me. After a few phone calls and messages to her, I finally received a return phone call, assuring me that this would pass inspection through the city of Lino Lakes. With this information, I gave the go ahead on my range hood order and set up an appointment with Service Today to start the work. Two service people arrived on time to do the work. However, they were confused as what they were to do. When I mentioned that they were to install venting through the roof, they told me that they were only there to mount the range hood to the wall and they were not authorized to work on the roof. After a lengthy conversation between the crew and their office, they told me they would schedule a different company to do the roof and venting work. So, they installed the hood only. They were sitting and standing on my range while installing the hood. (later I would find that the oven wouldn't work, assuming they were responsible for this)Service Today then contacted me to explain that the person who came out to give me the estimate had left the company, explaining the he was disgruntled with the company, They also explained that they weren't even sure what work needed to be completed. I explained that I needed 8 metal ductwork to be installed that would run from my hood through the roof and capped off. They said that would have a hard time doing this at the price I was quoted, but would complete the work, so they scheduled a roofing company to come out. When the roofing company arrived, they mentioned they were here to put in PVC piping, not metal ductwork for venting a range hood, so they left. At this point I was more than annoyed with Service Today, called them to tell them about my dilemma and that my oven was no longer working, as well. They apologized, and said they would get back with me.. After a couple of days, they called me to tell me they could not do the work, wanted to refund my $70 estimate and that they would pay the oven repair bill. They did refund my $70. I am not holding them responsible for the oven repair, as the Wolf technician assured me that it was not caused by the idiots that though it was a good idea to stand on top of my range. I can understand a disgruntled employee giving me incorrect information. What I would like to find out is the reasoning behind Ashley's lying to me regarding contacting the City of Lino Lakes building inspector and assuring me this was acceptable. She is not a disgruntled employee, as far as I know, and is still employed by Service Today. I now have an expensive range hood that I cannot use because of her. The cost to repair the oven was actually more than the cost of the range hood, but it would not be right to expect them to pay for this. Finally, I called to speak to the owner, regarding my dissatisfaction. I was told that he would contact me within 48 hours. That was 5 days ago.
Hi Mark, we are sorry to hear that you did not have a great experience. We would love for you to give us a call and let us know what we can do to make your experience better or how we can resolve any concerns you may have!
In response to your response:
Please read my review before responding. If you had, you would be aware that I did reach out to Kent Boll 5 days ago and have not heard back. Would you like for me to call again?
Worst company I've ever seen. All I wanted was to have a 3-way light switch fixed that wasn't working properly, and right away they said I need to pay a $400 disgnostic fee! Really, it's just a light switch. This company is completly a total RIP OFF! They are taking advantage of everyone they can, especially older people, overcharging, and doing things that aren't even necessary. Please stay away!!!!

Trip fee 80$ pretty on line . Diagnosis 360$ total 440 $ called other company's this is very high . Then wanted to replace air conditioner and parts on furnace for over 5,000-7200$ other guy came in fixed problem for total 150 $ did I mensch my dad is 79 yrs old very forgetful. Shame on you .
Read the reviews and find the common theme, I wish I had!
Bait and Switch tactics: when I called, they said $79 to come out, look at my water heater and provide quotes for replacement/repair. They ended up charging me $243 for a required diagnostic fee???? Technician said the $79 only covered the trip charge, why was I told otherwise when I called?
Price gouging/scare tactics: To have water heater replaced and up to code Service Today quoted me $3,566; over $2,000 more than any other plumber. I ended up using a different plumber and paid $1,200 for a Saturday installation.
Lack of confidence: The technician left my gas water heater (with pilot lighting concerns) in the on position when he left. Even I know enough to turn off a broken water heater so it doesn't leak gas into the house.
I am now left with $243 out of my pocket when they did no work and created more stress.
Do not do business with Service Today!
I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy. The old (before they changed ownership) Air Tech mechanical installed my furnace and AC 10 years ago so out of loyalty I called them again. The technician Mike showed up, charged me $379.00 for a diagnostic. Told me he thinks it's a compressor but wanted a senior technician to make sure. So then Tom the senior tech shows up and says yep it's the compressor $3,800.00 to replace, then advises I should just replace the AC unit. So he quoted me over $6,000 but offered a25% discount out of loyalty. So $4,600.00. I called another reputable company, $3,100.00 for the exact same brand and model AC unit. So I called another company to get another replacement quote. The guy was also a technician and the issue was a valve in the coil. Long story short, he got my AC unit working for less than Air Tech/Service Today charged to do nothing. Please note their 5 star reviews are from people not in the area. Hard to believe they'd take service calls in CA. That's not shady.
We had electricity out in 2 rooms of our home. Service Today came out for 3 hours and charged us $700 to tell us that they had no idea what the issue was and needed to spend an additional $1,000-2,000 to re-wire the rooms. The Service Today tech said he in 2 years has never been able to not find the issue. Had a different company come out, charged us $150 and had the issue fixed in 30 mins. They only had to re-connect 2 wires. The electrician from the other company stated that he was going to go back to the office and tell the other techs how much Service Today screwed us and how incompetent their tech was. When we called Service Today to get our money back and complain, their best fix was to tell us someone will call us within 48 hours. Terrible customer service. I would advise everyone to choose a different more reliable company.
I had them out in Sept to do a tune up on my boiler. The tech that came out said that they were unable to do the tune up do to some updated needed on my boiler. He gave me a list of the things that needed to be done and and headed out. Now I am a single mom and don't have much time to deal with my boiler. So I didn't get a second opinion. He said for $1200 which was the discounted price that they would fix everything and it would be good for the winter. I decided that it sounded a bit high but I needed it done.
They came out the tech was very nice and it looked as if everything was done correctly. I got my bill, which was not detailed as I had asked. I did call 7 times to try and get a breakdown for my bill and was never called back. Their serves were guaranteed though so I though perhaps I was good. A couple weeks later I heard air in my line so called them back. The same tech came out and fixed it no charge.
Then when it started to get chilly a week or so later, i hear the air in my lines again. I was going to call when my whole system went down. I did call since it was guaranteed. The new tech that came out was in my basement for about 5 hours trying to figure out what was going on. He had put in calls to 5 different techs about the problem. They all said it was the same thing, the relay. He did not have the correct relay and cut the wires to my transformer/relay and tried to rig another relay instead of getting the correct one. He then told me i needed a new relay and main board. He told me the cost would be around $800, this was with my discount since i had signed up for the comfort club. I said no, because I knew the parts hardly cost $100.
I ordered the parts myself and went to fix it with the help of my neighbor who was an electrician. Only then did i find what a mess my boiler was left in. He had cut the wires to my relay to jimmy rig them to a relay that didn't fit. I know he was trying to help but had made it worse. I then had to find a new transformer/relay another $80. I called to see if they would fix that part and asked what they were charging $800 for since I knew the parts cost and time. I was told i was paying for their employees drug testing, background checks, education and a various other things. They said they do not separate parts/labor and go on a national average for pricing. And that I was paying for the knowledge of the 5 guys that this tech had called when he couldn't figure out what the problem was with my boiler.
I then installed all my parts myself, with the help of my electrician neighbor. It took me a total time of an hour and a half install. After my new parts were in my boiler still would not work. So my neighbor checked the thermostat! It was a $24 thermostat, not all the new parts i had just put into my boiler that was making it not work. So none of it needed to be done if the thermostat would have been checked! My neighbor also load tested my old relay/transformer to see if it was really that and it wasn't, it tested out just fine. I could not use it due to all the wires being cut though.
The company then had the nerve to call me 3 days later after I had fixed my own boiler and told me they could get me a hard date to come fix my boiler. I told them i fixed it myself and what the culprit really was. I had told them to cancel my comfort club membership, which even though i canceled it. I was still billed for it!!! Never again. Nice techs and all but you need to know what you are working on.
I called another company which told me the $800 fix would only be about $275 since i had the parts. I also told them what was done the first time and the price, which i was told i was overcharged.
As a single mom that watches every penny, I would not use this company ever again.

If you happen to find Service Today add and need any type of heating, cooling or electrical work done, please run like crazy. These people are nothing but scam artists. All of the reviews I read are exact duplicates of what happened to me. A technician came to the house and charged $79 for the service fee which was expected. What was not expected was the refusal to give me any info as to what my problem was unless I paid a diagnostic fee of $440 up front. When I declined to pay he commenced to bring out all kinds of company brothers and proceeded to try to hard sell me on why I should pay this unethical tactic fee. Fortunately, I finally was able to politely ask him to leave. I have been trying to contact the company to request a refund of the $79 service fee since no actual service was ever performed. However, as you may have guessed by now, I have had no luck in contacting anyone and have had absolutely no response to my inquires. Please avoid Service Today and you will be better off and not lighter in the wallet. BEWARE !!
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!
This review is for the Minnesota Service Today!. They charge you a $75 trip fee and then get you on a $332 fee. Pedro knew immediately that the breaker had tripped and instead of telling me it was only the breaker he tried to upsell me on a cleaning and freon refill for only $1,500! I declined but was stuck with a $407 fee. They have ZERO INTEGRITY and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. I tried to find out exactly what Pedro did to get my unit running and it took three calls to find out it was just the breaker. Any honest company would have just said its was your breaker and $75 will cover it. Not this company. If I had read the reviews I would not have used them. I also received a call today (June 22, 2023) from Kathy at Service Today regarding my emails, which they never responded to, asking me if my a/c was working. I was then sent an email shortly after that stated I agreed to the fee with no further explanation. There is no refund of $332 coming to me as this crappy company will suck as much money as they can from every customer.
Just to add that I was given Service today as a recommendation by Northern Air who is not licenced in Minneapolis, this company will also never get my business.
DO NOT LET THEM COME TO YOUR HOUSE. I got a call from them and they offered a free furnace tune-up. So I was free, and I took it. After a tech came, he opened the furnace panel, started using his furnace checker and the code began to show. He wanted to charge $299 for the diagnosis and I asked why, he said he can't tell me until he runs all of the tests. The code light didn't show until he opens the panel and he also read the code wrongly. then I told him to grab his stuff up and get out of my house.
This company is using the Tech Support static. Find a random code and say there is a problem with your system. Totally Scam.
We have a heat pump and a furnace. In February we were not getting any heat out of the furnace. Called Airtech out. The first guy couldn't figure out the problem, so they sent a different guy the next day. After about 5 days, and several techs, they finally decided to replace the thermostat. Thank goodness we have a woodstove for heat back-up. Unfortunately, they also chose to charge us over $700 for the diagnosis and thermostat. That fall, when it was time for the heat to come back on, it wasn't working again. They have a guarantee, so called them back out. Oops, they never ran some wire they were supposed to run the last time, but if we would like to pay $400 for a different thermostat that is wireless, they wouldn't have to run the wire they should have ran months ago.
Several months later, the heat pump wouldn't turn on. Called them out again thinking it had to do something with the guarantee work. They looked at the heat pump, found a bad wire and taped it up and charged us $300. When the heat pump quit working again a few weeks later, my husband went out and replaced the repaired wire and got it working again.
Will NOT call them ever again.

Rip-off. Called to have them trouble shoot a noisy dimmer, they offered three options, 5k, 11k & 19k, saying the whole house needed to be re-wired or the whole house might burn down. 100 year old house, lots of wood, they knew how to build fear. When I said I would contact them after getting another estimate, the young guy wouldn't leave until his supervisor came out. After waiting for the supervisor (seemed more like a closer on a used-car lot) arrived, he offered that they would leave if we committed to at least the 5k bid, presumably to keep the house from burning down that night. We signed so they would leave. I did call a local electrical company, who bid $1,200 to fix everything, no tiered options, just an estimate to do the job, you know, like electricians would give you. Contacted Boy's, they said we had signed the contract and that was that. So here I am on Yelp.

I called due to a nicked gas pipe. The employee arrived timely however spent about 5 minutes then said he was not able to fix. He said he could call his supervisor and get him over in a couple of days. Since we could not wait 2 days he said he would turn off the gas. Took credit card info and left. I ended up calling a competitor who came out, fixed the problem right away. When we told him the Service Today person made sure the gas was off he said well It is was not shut off at the main. Seems like the service today tech just wanted to get the heck out of there. The only thing Service Today managed to do was to charge $75 for telling me he couldn't fix the issue. I will not be calling Service Today again
This is the new version of the company formerly known as AirTech. They have bundled pricing now which seems to guarantee they will maximize their profits. It cost me $450 to be given a quote to repair my system of another $1400. But they tried to up sell me to replacing the whole system (12years old) for $15k. My 'second' opinion cost $450 but this (almost) fixed my system. Unfortunately the Service Today! Technician had incorrectly unwired the control board to my furnace fan motor which burned it out. Otherwise, I'd be set. I still need about another $400 for the repair. I received a full system quote of almost $7000 less from my second opinion as well. We are talking thousands of dollars saved by not using this company. In my repair, I'm out about $850 for having them into my home while having another company clean up their mess. We have a saying in engineering you can have good, fast, cheap - pick two. Well with ServiceToday! You get fast alone.
TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE, highly recommend to everyone to choose a different company. Full story below.
They were scheduled to come out and look at our two HVACs for routine work and to show us if there were areas that could be improved, as we were having trouble heating and cooling the 2nd floor of our house. Cost was $220 right away, and then the 2nd $220 would be due upon completion of the task.
The tech shows up, opens up the 1st HVAC, hits a wrong cord, and shorts out the entire thing. Instead of taking responsibility, he says that the furnace is not working, and we need to hire his electrician to come out and take a look for an additional $500. My wife tells me this, and i get on the phone immediately calling BS as it was working before the tech came out, and we negotiated a deal for the electrician to come out for $100 (even this pisses me off because he broke it in the first place, but what choice did we have?? broken HVAC in Minnesota winter is a death sentence for your house).
While this is going on, the same tech walks over to the 2nd HVAC, opens it up, and tells my wife its leaking Gas, and he needs to do an inspection and repair for $700.. At this point i am fully in rage mode, so i call a buddy who owns a few properties and he recommended center point ++. I sign up right away and they send a tech out while these Service Today techs are still there. The center point ++ guy looks at the 2nd HVAC and tells my wife, and the service today tech standing there that this HVAC is NOT leaking gas, and the service Today tech has no clue what he's talking about.
Because the routine maintenance was not completed, they wanted to schedule a follow up visit to go back through everything; which we did not want to do but already signed the agreement so we didn't have a choice. MY wife schedules him for 2 weeks later and the tech bails and says he can't make it, and schedules a new time for another week after. When the next appointment date comes along, he can not make it again, and we did not hear from them again.
A couple weeks later we get that remaining bill for $220 for COMPLETION of the project, which we laughed off and said we would not pay, and then just now we see they sent it to collections who now wants us to pay.
Its laughable how bad of an experience we had with these guys. if you took the time to read this whole thing, please for the love of god choose someone else.

I called them after seeing an ad on TV for fixing an outlet during the holidays. They aren't service today, they came over a week later and arrived very late. After a lot of messing around and talk about diagnostics my Xmas tree no longer lit up and I had people coming over the next day! They said they would be back the next Friday but were again running late and wanted to reschedule. They said they had ordered something to fix my tree lights but it arrived after Xmas. It felt like the ad on TV was bait and switch. They never made good on any offer and I would NEVER recommend them.

I am SO DISAPPOINTED I called and set up a service call to have them come out and give me a quote. they came as they said they would! that's Great, the tech was very nice. But for the $75.00 service call Jo said he had to do an energy check through my house. So I let him go that's when the pressure started about how my houses power was so dangerous! and then the upselling started!
I asked them out to give me a quote for diagnosing my can lights in the kitchen possibly adding two new receptacles and installing a light fixture that I had purchased! This was however was just an opportunity for them to start up selling the first estimate was for this: Diagnose my kitchen light install the fixture I purchased and check all my outlets to make safety first. The first quote for that was over $1200.00. My reaction Are you out of your mind!! So Joe got Jeff on the line I explained to Jeff I just wanted a quote on the work I asked for! Fair enough even though the current wasn't right.) So then Joe gives me another quote for just DIAGNOSING my can lights in the Kitchen and installing the light I had Purchased this quoted was almost $900.00. I said No Way!! So then. He called the office and told Jimmie that I was not happy with the quote and wasn't into the upswell. So I said I wouldn't pay over $500.! Jimmie said give her the diagnosis and light install and I will give her the package we have available for diagnosing plumbing AC furnace and something else and it will be $675.00. I honestly felt SO MUCH PRESSURE ! I finally said okay..
He took the switch plate off and put the tester to it pulled the can lights out and told me it's the can lights that are bad! Okay! That took him 10 minutes tops! Then he started my light fixture which he didn't have the correct wire nuts for and he left in the middle of that.
BEWARE !!! This company in My Opinion is all about up selling! So basically I paid $75.00 trip charge ( agreed) and $675.00 to have a light fixture installed and to tell me my can lights were bad. Joseph came to the house at 2:15 and didn't leave until 5:30. The pressure from this guy was so bad I didn't sleep a bit knowing I was RIPPED OFF!
Just ridiculous service. Scheduled an AC repair service call about a week out because my AC unit wasn't working. With cooler weather in the forecast getting someone out right away wasn't necessary. Day of the appointment they didn't show during the window despite a text confirmation. When I called they told me they had called me to reschedule. I had no call history nor a voice mail.
During my follow up call they said they could get someone out for an additions $200 (maybe $249, I forgot) same day as an emergency. An extra $200 beyond the trip charge to just make the appointment they already confirmed.
Agreed to have them come out the following Monday. On top of the $75 trip charge they wanted $332 to run a diagnostic to tell me what was wrong. Now I'm two weeks in and they want $400 without actually doing anything.
I'll pass.
It looks like from the other recent reviews that my experience is typical.

Please please please look somewhere else!!! This is a scam business. Had some questions about the electric from an old house that I bought. The guy was trying his hardest to scare me into thinking the house was a ticking time bomb and that any second a fire will start and kill me tenants.... said he recommends a full rewiring.... for, drum roll please, $97,000!!!! For a 2800 square foot house. He told me a light fixture would electrocute anyone you tried to put a light bulb in it.... had another electrician come out. Said the majority of the house had been rewired and that it was done very well. As for the light fixture, the bulb was burnt out and needed to be replaced. We have used it everyday. The new electrician laughed the whole time he was at our place about the 97k and the electrocuting light bulb. This business should be shut down!
Oh my gosh!!!!!!! Do not use this company for your electrical work!!!! They do not know what they are doing and charge extravagant prices - like double the amount electrical work is estimated at!!! This was revealed to us by our insurance company when they could not completely reimburse us for work done due to a storm coming through. Service Today charges DOUBLE THE AMOUNT of other electricians!!! If it is not an emergency and you have the ability - TAKE THE TIME AND FIND A LOCAL ELECTRICIAN to do the work necessary.
For another portion of electrical work needed because of storm damage, we waited 2 weeks for a local electrician to do the work BUT IT WAS WORTH IT!!! Kevin Ahlers diagnosed and fixed the problem for the same price as Service Today did just to diagnose the problem which was diagnosed to put more money into Service Today's pocket in the first place. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! The electricians are nice but it is a total racket!!!!! Let the buyer beware!!!
$600 for a garbage disposal!!!
I purchased a new garbage disposal and didn't feel comfortable installing it myself, so I used Service Now to do it. After inspecting my home and trying to up-sell me, the plumber finally got around to doing the installation. It took him maybe 20 minutes to do, then charged me $600!!!
This was only for the labor, I provided the parts!! Everywhere else I checked said they would do it for a 3rd of the price. Horrifying!!

I found this company on a home improvement web site. Paul came to my home. He did a diagnostic test on what I needed done, repaired the circuit breaker for the stove/range, fixed the kitchen ceiling fan, and tightened an outlet in the dining area. He gave me several options for more work, and I will think those over, probably doing some of them after other things in my life settle down. I was very pleased with Paul, his efficiency, professionalism, and courtesy. I highly recommend this company. Whatever is paid for this type of work is worth it so that it's done right.

When I moved into an old home in St. Paul, I invited several electricians to come out and give estimates for what it would take to fix the most egregious electrical safety issues in the house. Of the 3, Service Today's electrician gave me the most outrageous bids - his lowest bid was $5000 higher than either of the others I received. He did not appear to listen as I repeatedly asked him to look at the breaker box before giving me a sales pitch; he did not prioritize or triage the issues as I had requested; and when he left, my electric oven was no longer working. I called the company to ask them to come back and see what happened to the oven; they said that unless they could prove it was because of the electrician, it would cost me $79 just to have them come take a look. In general I got the impression that ServiceToday is intent on selling me expensive services I don't need, rather than listening to what I am asking and taking responsibility. I will definitely not be hiring their electrical team.
Please beware of using this company. We had them come out to provide after hour service on Good Friday due to us coming home to a burning smell in our house that appeared to be coming from a outlet. The technician, David G, was prompt and friendly, I would say overly friendly. After many hours at our house and continued tries to sell us on more services he was unable to find anything causing the problem. He then continued to find other things wrong that he could quote us for, that we're within code but not best practice now but we're the way things were done in 1990's when our house was built. We agreed he could change out a fault breaker in our electrical box, however, he did not have the right one in his truck so he placed a smaller one in and said he would be back either Saturday or Monday to switch it out. He never came back and never called to set up a return appointment. I have called several times to the office and spoke to a Marian O, who told me she could see the call however it was completed and closed out. She informed me that she would contact David, but he was at a customer call and would have to call me back. 6 days have gone by with no call. Other attempts in trying to call them I get forwarded to a call service who will give them the message to call me back. To date I do not get a return call from David, or his supervisor. I have paid for the work and they are not doing what they promised. I am not an expert in electrical work and I have placed my faith in their company and am very embarrassed that I was taken and overcharged for my call with the work incomplete.
Please beware.....
***UPDATE**** 6-23-17
I finally got a call from a supervisor and she was GREAT on the phone. She called and listened to our story, she apologized and took full responsibility. She said this is not how we like to do business or quality of service. Together we came up with a compromise plan: next day a new technician came out, he completed the work, and we received half our money back. I did have to request the money back and she offered to pay back only for the part, but I told her it was your service that was not quality and the delay in finishing the work, I asked for 50% of the bill back and she agreed. I appreciated that she recognized our experience and poor service by taking responsibility, however, it should not have been this hard to get a hold of them or a supervisor to work this out.
Service Today Techs do a wonderful job maintaining our pool which we use daily. We are very satisfied and will continue to use them. They are very professional and detailed in their work and take the extra time to make sure the job is done properly.
An absolute SCAM of a company. We asked them to look at our A/C and they said it was too cold, but they'd look at our (working fine) furnace instead. Told us they needed an emergency supervisor ($200) who came and said we needed a $10,000 replacement.
I called the manufacturer who sent someone over. My furnace is perfect.
Thankfully I'm only out $325 and not $10,000, but absolutely to not let these people into your house.
DO NOT TRUST Service Today Company St Paul MN.
Electrical problems
This company is NOT TO FIX IT
Do the diagnostic instead, he charged me $851.75.
I don't want diagnostic, I just want light fixed, what reason they are offering diagnostic instead of fixing ?
And instead suggested an unnecessary expensive wire replacement.
$2600.00 to $74,900.00 this is crazy
(Internet electrical diagnostic prices are $87.00 to $111.00 plus tax.)
Fixing Electrical problems in my area
I do know, My area is $150.00 to $300.00 the most,
And my case wire is already included in the price,
They didn't know

This is the worst company I have dealt with. They came out for a service check and told my wife of the thousands of dollars she should spend to have all kinds of unnecessary repairs. When she declined they told her they could not guarantee the work we originally called them to do. SCAMMERS! Call anyone but these guys.
I have a ceiling fun in my staircase with switches on three levels. Wanted a dedicated juice wire just for that fun, independent from the ceiling light (they are at present on the same circuit).
Have done a lot of DIY, but thought a would get a professional for this particular job, since our condo has six levels. The fellow came with a fully equipped truck as the girl on the phone said (what professional doesn't come with the tools of his trade?). Before even asking what was to be done, he presented books of their company's BBB rating which made me wary. Than It took me more than 15 minutes to explain what I wanted a ceiling fan hooked up on a separate circuit - got the feeling that the guy tried very hard not to understand a very simple procedure I wanted. After spending another hour looking at the switchboard and writing estimates he came up with three figures ranging between 3 and 4 thousand dollars with a small discount if I subscribe to their club with a monthly fee... Which would include the rewiring for practically the whole house. And all that for hooking up a ceiling fa... I assume it was the same Paul mentioned in another review (like taking a car for an oil change and being told you need to rebuild the whole engine. This is a classical scam procedure and I don't care how many stars they have from some people they can scare with their ridiculous sales pitch.
BTW. On their flier they advertised a whole house inspection for $49, than after I called, the girl on the phone said he could come within three hours for $59 or within two hours for $79 which already sounded fishy.
Hands off is my advice.

SCAM Company - do not hire them.
Came out to look at HVAC system and claimed we had air flow issues. Took hours of our time to tell us they needed to come back to diagnose the issue. During second visit they told us we needed all new duct work for $10,000. Called for a second opinion and were told this company preys on new homeowners.
My service technician was Mike.
He called ~20 minutes ahead of arrival, which happened to be before the service window so I had to rush home from work, which is somewhat frustrating.
When I got home, he had been sitting in my driveway for 5-10 minutes, and handled the ordeal professionally, even though it was frustrating for both of us.
Then he did normal inspection-type things.
At a point, he realized one of my fuses wasn't working. He didn't have any spares in his truck, so he ran out to a store to buy more instead of leaving me to fend for myself. It was much appreciated.
Finally, let's acknowledge that my dog was probably the worst host in the history of the service industry. My pup didn't stop barking/growling the entire time. It was really embarrassing, but Mike patiently ignored him.
The service was expensive. But it's HVAC service. It's going to be expensive 100% of the time. Charge it.
Tech commented CONSTANTLY on items in our home, literally flashing flashlight on various objects in the dark. It was SO BAD that it was like he was casing our home. We felt like we were dealing with an intruder as opposed to a service tech. And we don't live in Kenwood.
Really!
If our house gets broken into we KNOW PRECISELY WHERE THE POLICE SHOULD START!!!
We had a sump that tech was supposed to be addressing. But in the 2 hours he spent here literally asking to see this and that from the laundry room, furnace room, master bathroom, kitchen, commenting on all this additional stuff we needed to add or replace because our softener was no good, we needed a thing on the water heater, the pressure was too high so add device for that ... JUST WENT ON AND ON!!!
I came to my senses after he left AND CANCELLED the job. He was SUPPOSED to have a sump/parts in his van per my conversation the day before with employee while setting up service call. They knew they were coming for the sump, so why no replacement sump???
My take on this entire 2 hour waste of time is that this MORON comes into your home to scare the shit out of you about all possible plumbing disasters so that by the time he leaves your on the hook for 2.5k, 3k, 5k+++. And I'll wager that he does none of the plumbing work ... he's just a car salesman.
The irony of this entire shitshow is that the well for the sump was bone dry and probably can be left as is.
1 STAR is being generous. These guys suck!

I just saw the other review below, and I'm glad I didn't proceed beyond the initial call. I needed a ceiling fan replaced. I had actually already removed the old ceiling fan; I needed someone to install the new one. (I'm actually an electrical power engineer, but I usually pay other people to do my electrical work as I don't have time to bother with learning building codes, which change all the time and vary by state.
Service Today wanted $100 just to have a look at what you want done and give a cost estimate. This is ridiculous as this takes maybe 10 minutes (less time in my case because I had already removed the old fan), and they don't even apply the $100 to the actual work. They also refused to give a ballpark estimate - I would have been fine being given a range, say $250-750, average $500... $750 if x needs to be done, $250 if if y
FWIW - we are moving to Phoenix, and we can't wait. A ceiling fan replacement literally costs ~$90 if you use Amazon Home Services:
amazon.com/Ceiling-Fan-R…
Jeff was on time, courteous and went the extra step to communicate with me about the job and other things I should consider. Excellent work.
Selling my house and buyer requested a furnace tune up. Per ServiceToday's website will also conduct any necessary parts cleaning and/or minor repairs, test for carbon monoxide, and do a full check of all safety controls They failed to do that so I called and talked to Christi on the phone and they said those can be done at an additional charge usually. I was not made aware of this at all. I thought the $79 tune up was for everything. They also told me I had a cracked heater exchange via a remote controlled camera. I had another Company come out a couple hours later determine that my heat Exchange was not cracked. I showed them what ServiceToday showed me was a crack and they actually removed parts of my furnace to get an eye view and determined there was no crack and then also did a C02 combustion test which came back clean. I asked Christi why they did not perform a C02 test to assure the crack was there and she gave me an excuse that they see anything they red tag it and tell me to replace my furnace. After looking at other reviews this seems to be a common practice with them to get more business. Run as fast as you can from these scam artists. I will be disputing my charge on the my credit card and recommend everyone else to avoid them.
Ridiculous $80 trip charge + $520 diagnostic fee. You'll probably end up with an option for 10k for repair afterwards. Do yourself a favor and find another company.
I just want to say these guys did a great job. It started out with a furnace check and the furnace ended up being flagged. So they came in replaced the furnace.
There were a few times where the furnace went down twice (later it was found out do to a short in the thermostat wire). They came out within an hour both times during the middle of the winter. No extra charge and eventually replaced the thermostat wire. So far everything has been running good.
On top of that they filled out the rebate for me and mailed to me with attached copy of receipt and envelope with postage stamp. I appreciate little things like that.
On top of that everyone I talked to from the installer to the office personnel were very nice and easy to talk to. I would definitely recommend them.

NOT RECOMMENDED -Beware
What's the deal with all these local service companies who buy up the small mom and pop operators then want to come in an sell you all these services? Whatever happened to finding someone to do some simple work at your house who would just come in and do the job without trying a bunch of up sells?
I bought a couple of new lights to hang over our island and did the diy thing and got them hung-only for some strange (minor) reason they wouldn't light up so I decided to simplify my life and call an expert. Saw a commercial for these guys on the news so thought I'd give them a try. I wish I hadn't.
Paul arrived at 10:30, well within the promised window and spent a hour looking around the house in a safety audit to see what other things might need fixing. I wasn't expecting much as our home has been extensively remodeled -twice - since we lived here. I just wanted a couple of fixtures looked at...
His first estimate was over $2,100 for a bunch of optional work including adjusting my two already hung light fixtures, changing out some outlets, adding whole home surge protector and more. I about fell off my chair! To just tweak the light fixtures they wanted $333.
Needless to say I paid the $59 trip charge and sent him on his way. I was totally shocked.
BUYER BEWARE WITH THESE GUYS!!!!

Stay away from this company. I think the people out in the field are solid, but their company policies are suspect. They will cost a minimum of 40% more than most other companies. I felt like I was at a used car office with the salesman going back and forth with his manager on the phone, trying to get me the best deal. This was in my own living room! The next 2 appointments I got to replace my central air were less than half, and they were higher SEER rated units.
Buyers beware! Make sure you get a second opinion if they want you to spend a lot of money.
At the beginning of 2017 they came out to fix my furnace. They ended up red tagging it claiming there was a gas leak. They also said that I needed to replace my air conditioner after it was not working properly. I got a second opinion: my furnace just needed a minor repair and my air-conditioner basically had a screw loose. Over one year later both are going strong.
I was part of their monthly service club and as soon as my contract expired with them I terminated it and will never use this company again.

Service Today is extremely overpriced and provides poor quality work. I had an electrical fixture project that was not completed professionally - it required additional work to fix the poor work done. I have been waiting weeks for customer service to respond. Highly not recommended! Save your money and a headache and go elsewhere.
Would have given zero stars if an option.
I had water coming into my kitchen and settling in front of my oven. Nothing else was wet. You could feel the floor squishing. No water at the sink or at the fridge. Called and left a message. I had water under my wood floor. Nick came out tonight and within minutes he was able to identify what the problem was. The water hose from the air conditioner had come disconnected. After soaking up the water by the furnace he was able to clean up the mess. We now have a fan in the laundry/furnace room and another in the kitchen trying to dry everything up. He advised me to run the fans for a week, 24/7. Next week, we will see how everything is. I'm real concerned about the wood floor. Nick, reassured me they will do everything that they can to get my areas back to normal. Nick was involved with my installation of my furnace and air conditioner about 18 months ago. I trust and believe he knows what he is doing......
Thanks~Jeri
We hired Boys Electric to pull an electrical permit and complete the outside fixture electrical work for a siding project we were contracted to complete. Not only did they never pull the permit, but they lost our appointment and were only able to offer us a reschedule a week and a half out! Furthermore, when they finally did show up to the property to complete the work, they took a look and decided that the work had already been done and NEVER contacted me to let me know. The home owner ended up having to complete their own electrical work and we had to get them to pull their own permit. Lost appointments and lack of communication are standard for this company.

This company is in the business of lying and deceiving customers. Their only interest is to make as much money as possible and then burn the bridge between customer and company.
I purchased a new smart thermostat for my house thinking I could install it myself. I was able to install the module upstairs, but the module needed an extension plugged into the main circuit board in my HVAC system. Called this company on 12/4/2019 the day after installation because the thermostat was not linking to my HVAC system correctly. I paid $79 for the tech to come out. as soon as he arrived around 2:15 pm I reminded him of the situation. I told him that i'm pretty sure the furnace is fine. I just installed my wires incorrectly. I showed him to the furnace and he stopped me in my tracks to tell me that my furnace was 30 years old and that he wouldn't touch it unless I paid $500 for a diag fee. I kindly asked if he could just look at the wires (like you know for the reason I called) he said no. it is suppose to be 11 degrees next week and I couldn't imagine having my pipes freeze so I had to say yes. After spending about 45 minutes digging through my HVAC system I asked him to just look at my wires. He immediately noticed the problem. Boom my system turned on but it was blowing cold air. He explained that my pilot light failed and a rattling noise coming from the fan means my motor was about to fail. He turned off my furnace and said there is no reason to turn it on because its broken. The tech proceeded to try and sell me on new HVAC systems. after he left I went down stairs turned my furnace back on . I heard the rattling and decided to let it run for a bit. I went up stairs to my main thermostat i could see the temp was going up but still cold air. I checked the wires behind the thermostat (he never looked at). During a panic state that morning I had accidentally placed my AC wire into the Furnace plug and my Furnace wire into my Ac Plug. after switching the wires my house warmed back up to 70 degrees my pilot light is perfectly normal there is no motor noise. This job cost me $579 for a misdiagnosis of my system and the company claims they did everything right. got to give it to them if their right is lying and stealing from customers they deserve 5 stars.

Needed 2 bathroom exhaust fans installed (old ones were already removed.) needed 1 other bathroom exhaust fan replaced. I had already purchased the 3 fans to be installed. I was charged almost $1100 for this! The technician also helped himself to my venting parts which I had laying on a table with multiple other items I plan to use during the remodeling of our home. He did not ask if he could use them; he instead told me he used one as he had run out of parts to use as he handed me my bill. THIS IS OUTRIGHT STEALING!!! He removed the electrical panel front and did not replace it . He left trash for me to pick up. i asked for a partial refund which was denied. Service Today did offer to pay me for the part, however, not my time to replace it. Service Today did offer to send the technician back out to replace the electrical panel front and check out the 15 second delay in all 3 fans. I declined as I prefer not to have THIEVES in my home again. I will NEVER use this company EVER again.
Clay was a superb electrician who showed up on time, kept me fully informed on what he was doing, did an excellent job without any surprises, and charged me exactly what he had quoted. I could not ask for anything more. He was the consummate professional and gets an A+. I also had some work done by Boys Electric about one year ago. Alyssa was the electrician that time, and she also was fantastic--very well qualified and a nice person. She also gets an A+. If Clay or Alyssa is doing your work you will be in great hands.
David is a different story. He was overly gushy, almost in a smarmy, salesman-like manner. Our house was beautiful, our furniture was fantastic, I love this neighborhood, and on and on. He needs to dial down I'm your good buddy persona and simply be a professional. I have to say I didn't fully trust him from that first overly pumped handshake. That gut feeling was justified when he offered to evaluate our home's electrical system as a favor at no charge. (I really didn't think this was necessary as we had installed a new kitchen only 18 months earlier and the electrical work, new and old, was fully approved by a Minneapolis city inspector.) Fifteen minutes later David had finished his free analysis and handed me an estimate for $11,500, and all I was having done was the installation of a single 110V outdoor box! I felt like the guy who goes into the hospital with a hangnail, and they tell him he needs a heart transplant. If David comes to your house be wary and hold on to your wallet.
Dishonest people.
I bought two gas furnaces from this company which came with complete ten year parts and labor warranties. (The first one was after I had them come out for a tune-up and the red-tagged it. A common scam it seems). I signed up for their comfort club which charged me monthly for services. After five years one furnace completely died. I was glad I had that complete parts and labor warranty--until I tried to actually use it and was told it was completely worthless. Long story short, I ended up having to buy a complete second system to replace the first one that died. Stupidly I continued to use them but after a while I cancelled the monthly service. I called multiple times to cancel and was assured it was cancelled. But surprise, it was charged again. Terrible customer service. Sorry I ever had anything to do with these people.
When I called for service I was told they couldn't estimate what it would cost to check out my problem (flashing lights through out the house when the washer was running) and there would be a $79 service charge that could not be applied against any other work. I was surprised when the technician arrived with a detailed list of the charges for doing the inspection that started at about $500. I signed off on them doing the inspection for that amount and then they came back with a proposal that ran between $8K and $24K all of them addressing much more than the basic main problem which they said was possibly Dakota Electric's responsibility. They did call Dakota Electric and tell them about the issue, but were non-committal on whether they would follow through with the utility after Dakota Electric came out to look at the problem.
I should have shown them the door when they brought out the $500 inspection fee on a chart that they apparently couldn't share before they arrived. This company use sales tactics that leave a bad taste in my mouth. If I knew how expensive it was for them to even check out the problem I would have shopped around instead of relying on a friend's recommendation. If you are considering using their services, get them to at least send you their rate card that lists the prices. If they tell you over the phone that they don't have such a document they are lying. If they say they can't share it, hang up and call someone else.
That was in June. Six months later I had another electrician in for a second opinion. This electrician has done work for us before and is reliable and trusted. He said the current coming from Dakota Electric was a little hot (241 vs 220-230) but nothing to worry about. He said the lights flickering was also nothing to worry about. A sharp contrast to the dire circumstances that Service Today described. Our electrician said to replace the circuit breaker box was about $3,500, much less than the $8K Service today wanted.

Extremely overpriced
Charged 660 $$ to find short circuit in one of the smoke detectors.
Spent lot of time trying to sell smoke detector, redoing all connections, whole house diagnostics, and did not check all outlets for voltage drop
Probably diagnosed the problem with level 1 but did level 3 and charged $660 for the work
Actual work done tightened the smoke alarm wire
Installed back all 6 smoke detectors, the alarm went off again so figured which one was the faulty one by elimination method removing one smoke detector at a time
Actual work time 1 to 1.5 hr max but spent 3 hours, 50 % time spent on
came in for diagnostics and then flip saying he couldn't find any so had to upgrade to level 3 costing 660
They never said this over the phone
They lie. do not use them. They employ Bait and switch tactics.
We had Service Today! Install a new furnace 2 years and 4 months ago. The person installing it told us it was their first time installing a furnace in a home. We noticed some water damage on the ceiling and wall inside, and on the outside wall, where the PVC pipe for the furnace, installed by this HVAC person from Service Today!, had caulked. The caulk had not done it's job and there was a crack where rain had gotten into the wall, causing some rotting wood. We called Service Today! this week and they charged us $300, using a camera snake to see the damage in the wall, and caulked. This HVAC person said that the warranty on labor was only for 2 years, and the crack was probably caused by the long length of the pipe inside which shifted, or by rains storms. He did a thorough job of caulking and told us to check the caulking after one month and if it seems to be working after one month, it should work for 20 years. The novice HVAC person who originally installed the PVC pipe did not tell us to check the caulk after one month. It appears to us that the original HVAC person's poor caulking job caused the problem, not the length of the pipe or rains storms, because we live in a townhouse community and there are other townhouses in it which are similarly built and subject to the same rain storms! Bottom line: this company seems to use inexperienced workers and then blame shift when it appears the work was deficient. They do not seem committed to quality work or to compensating the homeowner who suffers as a result.
I knew I was in trouble when the technician got out with a 3-ring binder giving a sales pitch and pricing for different levels of diagnostics starting at $299. Within 20 minutes he was up to $1700 in repairs and was not even 1/3 through his diagnostic checklist on a 7 yr old furnace. He said in order to finish the diagnostic checklist, he needed to replace the circuit board for $800+. At that point, I asked him to wrap it up and give me the invoice. That came to $355, which I refused to pay for the full amount as he did not finish the complete diagnostic due to the fact, I would not pay $800 for a circuit board. His manager and I agreed on a amount of $200 for his one hour of time and trip charge of $79. I called out a different local company and the technician had my furnace running within 20 minutes, checked a few other items, tested the carbonmonoxide output and charged me $120. Shame on this company for taking advantage of people. I am sure they get many people who pay those ridiculous charges because they are desperate to get it fixed and do not know any better. One last item, the gal who I spoke with on the phone stated we have a 11am available. I said , great, I will take it. She than proceeds to state, ok, we have 2 prices. One price the arrival window is 11 - 1 pm for $99 or 11 - 3 for $79 , I thought this was odd, as, she just told me we have a 11am opening , I said 11-3 for $79 is fine. He was there at 11. This company has thought of all kinds of ways to increase their revenue starting with the person who schedules the appointment. I am still angry the next day when I think about this !
They called me 3 times within an hour. It was the middle of a workday and since I didn't recognize the number, I didn't answer. I called the number after the 3rd call to find out who it was and a man answered Service Today and started rambling about some sort of deal they had going on. He kept talking without letting me get a word in. When he finally stopped I told him that I'd never used their company before and asked that they please remove me from their call list. He immediately hung up on me. From the other reviews, sounds like it's a good thing I didn't fall for the deal.
wanted them to attach 4 wires to a new bathroom light switch . the old one just wore out. problem was i didn't know which wire went to which screw. they came out on time were very friendly until they started talking about a $400.00 diagnostic fee plus the job fee plus the $79.00 fee to come out plus $14.00 for gas and materials. so they wanted way over $500.00 to hook up 4 wires on a light switch. i flat out said no way possible i would pay that . i explained i just had the same thing done to my dinning room switch for $100.00 plus he threw in a lighted dimmer. we finally settled on $204.00 total. i wouldn't of paid that except they were here and if i didnt use them i still owed $69.00 show up fee. he did a good job on the switch but did a better job at ripping me off . i will never use home advisor again. they also couldn't warranty their work because of the great deal i got.

Airtech replaced a new AC at our house in May 2015. It has not worked well after we spent close to $6,000 for the brand new AC . I called them and they came and said our duct system did not have enough vents. (The duct system worked fine before!) Well, we did increase a couple of vents as suggested but it still does not work well. I called them in spring of 2016 for AC tune up. Two very young guys came and told me there were some parts that could be replaced (capacitor) because they were not at 100%. After a couple of months I noticed our carpet at lower level was wet. I immediately called a roofer, a wet basement person to come look. They told me I was lucky that our house was not on fire because the AC was leaking water badly and leaking close to the electrical wires. I called Airtech for emergency service. Brad from Airtech came did a temporary fix. By that time, I did not trust them any more and hired another company who actually had to charge refrigerant and cleaned the coils for me. I talked to them multiple times and they accused me not having them replace parts, which apparently was not the issue to cause the leak. I thought when they came for maintenance, they were supposed to clean up things for me and charge refrigerant for me.
I feel Airtech does not have experienced service people and are not responsible to their work. They do not take care of their customers, instead they are more interested in finding parts they could replace so they could make more money. They did not do any tune up work they were supposed to do, not even cleaning the coils or drains. Our system was running perfectly fine until they came and did things. It almost caused a fire at our home! After seeing the damage caused by the AC that they just serviced, they denied any responsibility. I do not trust them and would never hire them again!

Complete joke of a company. They charged me a $59 trip fee plus a $350 diagnostic charge. At the end of the trip the electrician gave me 3 options ranging from 15K to 5K. Since I don't know much about electrical I called two other companies (both provided free estimates and no diagnostic charge) and they both came in around 2K. When I told them what Boys Electric said they laughed and said it was a good thing I called another company.
Also they gave me a four hour window for my appointment. The other companies gave me an exact time and showed up on time.
We had a great experience with Boys Electric. Professional, courteous and value for money. We had two ancient power sockets removed, replaced and brought up to code as well as having a dimmer installed.
Why did I really like these guys?
1) The booking experience over the phone was terrific. First class. Their tone, willingness to help and taking time to explain their pricing and setting expectations about the job.
2) The technician was extremely capable and professional. Awesome.
3) They bill on a fixed price basis, not by the hour. The job was scoped and priced up front and the cost doesn't change. If it takes them twice as long, it's the same fee.
Excellent service provider and I will certainly use them again!!

Addendum to 1/4/2022 review
We had to hire another electrician to fix our bathroom fan issues. Turns out that the fan was never connected to the new venting that Service Today installed. Infact, none of the venting was attached to anything, it was just laying flat in the attic, not even attached to the new bathroom fan. Also, we discovered that Meghan H., the Service Today installer left open, live wires in the attic. We could easily have had an attic fire. After checking her Meghan H business card, it states she is an electrical technician so I believe she is not a licensed electrician but working under the Service Today license. The new electrician asked Was this work done by a licensed electrician? My answer was I thought it was. Now I'm thinking maybe not. Thank goodness we had it checked by a reputable electrician. Again, Run, Run, Run as fast as you can away from Service Today. I am ashamed to say I hired these people without doing better research!!

I'm going to write this review because I really like the electrician who came out to work on my thermostat's wiring. Their staff seem to be pretty friendly also, I got an email next business day and when I schedule an appointment it was quick and easy :)
I have an old thermostat that has 4 wires, I really want to upgrade to the new Honeywell Wifi thermostat. I need a professional for the wiring process; I called up many electric company... Boy's responded quickly and they also took jobs on Saturday!!! Awesome!!!
They send out their electrician Alissa! She's amazing she fished new wires and help set up the new thermostat to make sure it works!!! Very professional and she's also willing to answer any questions we may have.
I'm impressed because she very helpful and very neat with her work. After she cleans up and make sure everything is in working condition. The rate of the work was very reasonable!!! She's very patient even though it was super hot day and inside my home is super humid also ... Usually people get moody to work on hot and muggy environment.
It's done! All thanks to Alissa :)) great job ...
I recommend Boy's Electric, LLC they are professional and reasonable rates I must say. I'm not sure about other Boy's Electricians but Alissa made it worth the 5-stars rating!

I wish I had read more feedback here. THESE GUYS ARE A SCAM. I have two outlets that I need help with fixing. He wanted to do diagnostics of the WHOLE HOUSE and wanted to discuss a panel upgrade and a whole bunch of stuff. He wanted a $750 DIAGNOSTIC fee first and then he wanted to go through the house and look for dangerous outlets. He talked about my house was 18 years old and probably needed new wiring, new circuits and he wouldn't know what he needed to do until after his diagnostic. I was charged $79 to get fleeced. I was so mad at myself for falling for this and letting them in my home. As soon as he got there and started pulling out glossy brochures to discuss their quality process and total approach, I should have known I was in trouble. Waste of time and money.
DONT USE THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU HAVE $$ TO THROW AWAY!! Had to have a shut off valve looked at on my bathroom sink water line because I couldn't stop the leak. I replaced it myself and have done these before. But for some reason this new one I could not get to stop leaking. I gave up and called Service Today. They said it was going to be a $79 service charge to come out. I agreed and they came out the next day. He was able to fix the leak and took him all of 15-20 minutes. He put on his own valve and tightened it a lot harder than I may have done because I was told not to over tighten. Looks like you can tighten these pretty good. So the leak has stopped and I was charged $442.00. I agreed to the price because I needed my water turned back on. But are you kidding me??? $442 for a 15 minute job and a $10 part!!! Think about that before using this company.
GROSSLY OVERCHARGED - We had a beeping fire alarm. I called at 5:15pm they said they would have to charge the $250 after hours rate, I knew it was a 10 minute job, but I really felt better about them doing it. It was weird that they charged this fee up front over the phone, but okay. When they got here they said it would cost an ADDITIONAL $500 to install the fire alarm ... WHAT? I told him I couldn't pay that, and wondered what kind of an alarm he was installing exactly. We just needed an off the shelf kind of product. After insisting that I couldn't do $500 he said, oh we do have a $300+ option. At that point we just needed the beeping to stop. I figured any other electrician might have charged the $300 to come out. So I paid it. Then he had me sign like 6 different things on his ipad. I'm sure they get threatened with lawsuits all the time. He swapped out the detector in about 10 minutes. Did that well I guess, but grossly overcharged. I'm feeling pretty sick about it. If you are desperate, they will be out there. I'm guessing they have zero repeat customers. BTW - next day, I had another alarm go out in the house. I watched a youtube video and chose to do in myself. 10 minutes and $22 later- VOILA. New life skill I guess.
The plumber came to our house, said he wasn't able to take care of the job but they'd send me a quote within the next couple of weeks. Since the job was exactly what I described, in writing, this seemed like a miscommunication on their part. They tried to charge me $69 for the travel fee despite not being able to do the work. They said there's no contract stating they have to actually perform the work. So I replied that there's no contract stating I have to pay the fee. I didn't pay the fee, and you shouldn't either. What a waste of time.
WHAT AN ABSOLUTE SCAM! $80 dispatch fee and $296 diagnostic fee before any work gets done. I had them come out to service my furnace and it was going to cost me nearly $400 before any parts and labor. As an fyi, the $80 you are paying to get the truck out here is basically an advertising fee for a tech to enter your home and sell you their services. It is not a diagnostic fee. I would under no circumstances use this company. Simply read the reviews, they are a complete scam and I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau.

I had a chandelier hung. Dan was reliable, courteous, knowledgeable and professional. He even came by the next day to drop off a new switch plate. He also measured 2 additional bedrooms for ceiling fans. When I purchase them I will definitely have Dan back. I can't thank you enough. See you soon.

Only needed 2 bathroom exhaust fans replaced - called these guys up as it's tough to get other contractors to take small jobs. Made me do a $400 diagnostic test prior - I was thinking this would be built into the overall cost and said how easy it would be to do the replacements. Later walked me though the house seeking almost full electrical replacement (hard sell). Finally came to telling me what stuff would cost - I won't even say what the biggest one was and I asked what's it just cost to replace the fans? $3300! Insane...plus I had to pay the $400 for nothing (diagnostic and no fans got replaced). BS move not sharing what cost investment would be like before asking people to pay such high upfront costs..

This is the worst company ever! After calling them out to fix an outlet the tech took 5 min to see if there was an easy answer tp my problem. He couldnt figure it out. They were then going to charge me $500 to run diagonstic to figure out priblem. I said no....crazy. I had another company come out and fix my problem in 15 min. Company doesnt actually care about helping client. They only care about making money. Never again!!
DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. Their rates are astronomical. They charged over a $1,000 to replace an outside hose. They have quoted over $600 to replace a kitchen faucet.

We have had several boiler/furnaces installed in our rental properties and in our house. They all had a light to indicate that it had power. Service Today installed a boiler system in one of our rentals. No light. 2 technicians(?) came out and stared at the furnace. The manual was right there on top of the furnace. They indicated we needed an electrician to hook it up some more. An appointment was made for a electrician to come out. My husband came over to let the electrician in, he, my husband, walked in to the boiler room before the electrician got there. The furnace had a light on and was producing heat. Under certain conditions that system shuts down and does not produce a light. We don't appreciate a big bill for a wrong diagnosis. The technicians(?) need to become more familiar with the products they deal with and read the manual.
Five years ago, Service Today installed a new furnace and AC unit. They sold me on a premium warranty - 12 years all parts and labor. Since then, I've had a handful of repairs and absolutely nothing is covered by the warranty. There's always a different excuse and the techs will make stuff up on the spot on why it's not covered.
Recently, my AC unit was blowing warm air. I called Service Today and a tech came out. He then called his supervisor to come out and together they spent four hours - mostly in the basement looking at my furnace and ducts, not the AC unit. They charged me $400+ - a $79 trip fee (fair) and a $300+ diagnostic (unfair). Why a diagnostic where the tech figures out what's wrong isn't considered labor covered by a warranty? Who knows.
After four hours, the one tech left and the supervisor explained that I didn't have enough return vents in the house and that would be necessary to regulate the temp inside. He said I only had four and needed one in every bedroom and living area (so six). Apparently, the office would call the next day with an estimate. Well, I went around an counted the return vents and I have six of them - one in every room and living area, so that was a pretty obvious attempt to rip me off.
But what about the AC unit that I had them out there in the first place? Well there's a leak on the setline and that isn't covered under the warranty because he was guessing ice fell on it over the winter. Even though there's absolutely no visible damage or any indication this was true, the warranty doesn't cover it because it's an act of God. He then said they'd pump some coolant in the unit to hold me over until it got fixed. The first tech came back and did that for about five minutes and left. And...still warm air. He didn't actually put any in (which I later confirmed with another company).
Over the next two weeks, I called and called and was passed off to different people trying to get an estimate. Every time, it was like they had no idea what I was talking about. Finally, after five or six calls to them, the send me an estimate for $2200 to find the leak and fix it. So when they were out for four hours previously, they apparently didn't do any of that because they were too busy looking for a larger, more expensive thing unrelated to my issue. Also, the entire amount was purely for labor, which again isn't covered on the parts and labor warranty.
I called another company and they gave me an estimate for $400 to fix everything (this included the trip fee, diagnostic and labor). What they said was that when Service Today installed it, their welds on the setline were done so poorly, it was destined to fail. It had nothing to do with falling ice. I called a friend who is a commercial HVAC tech. He came over and confirmed that the install was the problem (said it was one of the worst he'd ever seen) and fixed it for free in about 60 minutes. It took him about 15 minutes to find the leak, weld it properly and add coolant. Since then, it's been working great.
So my advice is to never, ever use this company for any reason.
Nope! Waited almost 3 weeks without any heat and then they called to cancel the appointment and said someone else would call back to reschedule. They never called back until I posted on social media. What rotten customer service!

We had an appointment that was missed - called on a Friday - was given a Monday appt and didn't show. Arrived Tuesday and said they thought issue with Acoil but would need $331 to perform a diagnostic. Due to previous issues with the company we scheduled another contractor to review before committing to the work. The line set was completed by Service Today previously and we have had nothing but trouble and loss of refrigerant since. The other contractor was at our house for 10 minutes and diagnosed 2 bad/faulty welds in the line set that Service Today installed and now will not warranty the work. Instead they wanted to have us spend over $300 to diagnose an issue their company created. I would not recommend them for any heating or AC work. Techs are pleasant but might not be experienced and customer service has not been willing to help.

Technician was very polite, however the business model they use is extremely deceptive and more of a sales pitch than a company looking to fix your problem. I explained the problem, and without even looking at the circuit box, or any of the house, told me it was a level 3 diagnostic and wanted $589 to go any further. I believe their techs are highly trained and probably know what they are doing, but it was the sales pitch without looking at a single thing that turned me off. I had no problem paying their 79 charge to come to the house, but maybe 5 minutes of their time to look at something, vs 5 minutes of time going over their play book. I called another company, they came out, charged nothing to take a look at it. Funny thing was,,, it was just a circuit breaker that tripped that I did not see. 2nd company smiled, we both laughed, and he didn't charge me a dime. Reason I am writing this review, because I wrote a review on Google, a rep from Service Today called me to talk about it. She didn't want to listen, but she did want to argue with me. My advice, when you get a bad review, listen to what your customer has to say, take the advice back to the company, but don't ever argue with them, tell them you know more than they do, and for Pete's sake, make sure you call them by the right name.

I do not recommend this business. They use their annual service contracts to upsell customers on unnecessary repairs. We were told that the capacitor and blower motor on our (still under warranty) furnace were no good and probably not going to survive the season. They also told us that the return vent was too small causing the furnace to overheat. Their recommendation? Replace the entire system with a brand new furnace.
When I got a second opinion from Standard Heating, without telling them what I was previously told by Service Today, they did all the same tests and told me that absolutely nothing was wrong. The only good thing I'll say about Service Today is that they arrived on time and did do thorough work on servicing the furnace. Needless to say we won't be using them again.
Dishonest and overpriced. Had no power in a portion of my home. They claimed to have fixed the problem after a full day (over 8 hours) of work and a hefty bill only to have no power again the next day. A different electrician from the same company came out and located the problem and we haven't had trouble since. Attempted to contact customer service only to be given the run around for 3 days and some spiel about how I had multiple problems and it would have taken a lamp technician to have found the problem and that the electrician's job isn't to check every outlet or fixture that might be causing the problem (not to mention the 600$ diagnostics fee that was charged for this exact thing). With such high prices, I would expect excellent customer service and my multiple problems to be solved the first time. Will not use again.

I had an outlet stop working so having seen multiple TV advertisements I decided to call Boy's. They get one star because when I scheduled my appointment they told me 1 PM and when the technician did not arrive I called to ask about the delay. They told me there was a window of time used for scheduling but because that's not what I was told they discounted the trip charge to my house and also took $50 off because I called them before Wednesday as was advertised on TV. That's the ONLY reason they get one star.
When their technician David showed up to my house he started right into the sales pitch pulling out a shiny pricing presentation and flipping through the pages. I made the mistake of telling him that I had a healthy fear of electricity. He played on my fears from that point on, looking at the outlet that needed fixing and immediately claiming it was a fire danger.
He asked to look at my breaker box and claimed it too,was a fire danger. He used the words melting wires and fire danger multiple times. I was so scared by his words I initialed his paperwork to perform what he called a diagnostic which in retrospect was just him walking through my house examining outlets and switches in his effort to convince me that my house was in need of a complete re-wire. He used a measuring tape to calculate the square footage of my home, even after I told him I'd refinanced my house recently and could provide the square footage of my house as calculated by an appraisal expert. The estimate came to $28,915 and he fully expected me to say yes immediately! I said I'd get a couple more bids and he launched into a diatribe on the lack of experience of any other electrical service in the area, claiming Boy's was the only trustworthy knowledgeable experts.
I asked him if he could install an outdoor light fixture on my garage and he said he could, for an additional charge of $112. I said no.
After all was said and done he charged me $460 dollars. He didn't fix anything. All I got out of it was a shiny folder with an exorbitant estimate. There was no follow-up and they cashed my check immediately.
Do yourself a favor and call anyone else instead of this company. All they want is your money

Avoid. They use the because you've been a previous customer line when you've never done work with them before. They immediately tell you the sky is falling and only they can fix it for the small amount of $3,500.....

Beware!! Way over priced! Charged me $79.00 to come to my house and quoted me $459.00 to hang a dining room light fixture! I told him to beat it!
He was still in my driveway when I called a local electrician and he came out and did it for $120.00.
Don't ever call Service Today for any work!

Do not use this company the service is overpriced !!! i had work on my furnace done previously by Airtech (I got exceptional and trusted service from Airtech) but not this company apparently this company purchased Air Tech phone number is not the same service beware !!! ... The tech did the assessment on my furnace was only at my home for an hour, and then charged me close to $900 what a ripe off they charged me for a Level 3 and then a Level 5 service whatever that means, when I questioned the company they would not give me an explanation. To make matters worst the tech had to special order the part ( pressure switch) and then I had to call the company three times to get them back to my house to finish the job.. Poor customer service and way overpriced Do not use this company !!!! I feel like I got totally ripped off Wish I would have called another company If I could I would give a Big Fat Zero as a a review
I would recommend this company. Came out and fixed the problem same day. Technician was nice and knowledgable, Fairly priced.

Within one hour of appointment was told they would not have anyone to send. Great inconvenience on a Friday afternoon with a project needing completion by the weekend. Perhaps this explains their 2.5 rating- maybe I dodged a bullet!
Giving them 1 star is too high. AVOiD!!!! I had a breaker go out and could not just give me estimate just for that. By the end of his speech with different packages to buy. I was crying thinking that my electric in the house was bad and the outlets and switches needed to be replaced again, which were not even 2 months old and had to pay to replace again or something could happen to the house. After paying over $3,000, I still have breaker problems. Tried calling and left several messages for someone to contact me and after a year no one ever called me back yet. Shame on you for scaring a senior citizen with your high pressure sales tactics. Next BBB

Service Today / AirTech is EXTREMELY expensive. I received a quote to replace my central air conditioner for $2K more than other companies. I did hire them to move my hanging chandelier over 1 foot and install an existing flush mount ceiling light and they charged $1,200 for 4 hours of work...that's $300/hour. I signed off on this work because I thought they might have to go into the attic and move the box but that didn't happen. The work was minimal for this amount of money. I might add, too, that the electrician originally told he he would have to open walls/sheetrock to move the electrical box...that's when I reminded him that there is an attic with accessibility....had I not been on top of this I would have ended up with drywall patching at my cost on top of additional costs from the electrician to put holes in my walls had I went that route. Note to self...find a cheaper electrician.

SCAMMED!! Half of the outlets in my bedroom did not work and I called to see if someone could come look at them and get them working. Well they 'couldn't figure out the problem' and needed to do a whole house inspection, $750 later those 3 outlets worked. I was told I needed to rewire and update my entire house and get a new box because all the electrical was on one circuit- which is is most definitely not on one circuit. The grand total to do that was over $8,000 or they could just update the outlets upstairs for $3,200. Well I should have only paid for the service call but I was stupid and took the bait so I could have working outlets in my room. NEVER again will I fall for that, from any company. Shame on them for doing a diagnostic that they know they do NOT need to do to figure out what is wrong. So upset I fell for their scam. Happy holidays, you just spent $780 for no reason. DO NOT FALL FOR THEIR DIAGNOSTIC TEST, YOU DO NOT NEED IT!!

An Air Tech Heating & Cooling technician just performed a service call on my air-conditioner. David was very friendly and courteous through out the visit, seemed very knowledgable about all aspects of heating and cooling and then patiently explained what needed to be done. I also appreciated that he called 20 minutes before arriving. Thank you, David.
DO NOT USE SERVICE TODAY
I had them out to my house after our furnace was short cycling- the flame would only stay on for 5-6 seconds before cutting back out and it wasn't pumping warm air into the house. At the time I knew VERY little about furnaces, but thank god the red flags in my brain stopped me from going to far with this company.
They charged me an $80 travel fee and about $350 in diagnostic tests to find then problem. They told me that was the lowest tier option available. Ugh okay, I guess I need this fixed so go ahead. It turned out that all our furnace needed was for the flame sensor to be cleaned. My fault for not just finding a youtube video for this one, but now I know for the future.
It gets worse- The technician proceeded to try and scare me into purchasing an entirely new furnace AND AC Unit. He kept pulling out parts and showing me how worn they were and on their last leg and this is going to go out on the coldest day of the winter. He said that one part could crack and day now and we'd be getting gas leaking into our basement. He really tried to scare me! Told me the base level of repairs necessary was $2,100. But they highly recommended and entire replacement for $8,000. Thank GOODNESS I told them I needed time to think about it and got a second opinion. Found a trustworthy company who talked me through everything and let me know that was definitely all scare tactics and that our furnace should have a minimum of 5 years of life left in it.
I can't believe this company is still in business operating like this. They try to scare people into spending exorbitant amounts of money unnecessarily. Makes me sick that people are being preyed on like this.

Do not use this company. Charged $79.00 for a trip fee which is OK. But charged me $457.75 to replace a leaky water on/off compression outlet value under the kitchen sink. The job took about 30 minutes. Lowe's has that part for under $10. They take advantage of the SOL situation you are in.

I paid $ 763 for the diagnosis and repair of 1 outlet. I also signed up for the $49 home safety inspection. The quote was between $9-14k to have my home brought up to code from the safety inspection. I found another electrician that is bringing my home up to code for $800. The cost of 1 outlet repair by Boy's Electric. I was roped in by the call us today for $50 off any repair on the TV. The discount should be $500 not $50. I feel like I was ripped off and taken advantage of.
** Update** Boy's Electric called and agreed to an adjustment of $350 for the outlet repair to honor their customer satisfaction guarantee.

Really disappointing. Booked these guys for a specific day and time as we needed the job done in a tight window. They contacted us just a couple of hours prior to the appointment to let us know they couldn't make it (decided to prioritize other jobs over ours). Their only option for still getting the job done that day was an evening appointment - at 2-1/2 times the cost. When they weren't willing to budge on price for a situation they caused, we decided to move onto another contractor.
The biggest regret I ever made was making an important purchase like this for my home from Service Today! Over $8,000 for a furnace that continually fails and we have made several service calls on in JUST ONE YEAR. Just some advise I wish I was given, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!
Thorough vent cleaning and Tech Mike was competent and pleasant. Went over all work completed in walk through. Great job! Thanks
I used to think quite highly of this company, but their costumer service has gone to trash in the last couple years. The technicians are always helpful, nice and do a great job. But the administration is horrible.
This company is happy to take your money, but make it hard to get the work finished. We have had our services rescheduled repeatedly (3 or 4 times for the same project). We had electrical work done last month, and I've called 5 times to ask about getting the work inspected (their requirement, which I was told would be taken care of by them within a day or two). Our entire project has been on hold for 4 weeks, and I can't reach the person I need to talk to or a manager.
My recommendation: spend your money somewhere else. This company will do good work, but will make it needlessly difficult to get things finished. Their work is expensive and the only thing they do reliably is take your money. Strongly do not recommend

Very poor company. Simple issue with light circuit, they wanted $500 to even diagnose the issue. I asked what if it was a 15 min problem, he said it was still $500.00, plus the $70 rip, or trip charge. Pay attention to all the similar reviews. What a rip off.
3/5 UPDATE. Had another electrician come out. Outside light was on a ground fault circuit which was tripped by accident. Problem solved in 15 min. Not $500 worth of time.
BEWARE of the Boys.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. They run the no estimate until we are at the house scam, and use high pressure sales tactics to get you to buy stuff you don't need and grossly over charge for what you do need. I'm sure it works, as they are at the home already, and desperate people fall for it. They push a $26.99 A MONTH FOR minimum of one year worthless membership, and tell you what a great deal it is, that you can save that amount right on the first job.
I was only looking for a 40-gal water heater installed. They guy pushed hard for a new water softener, tried scaring me about everything breaking, wearing out, and he couldn't guarantee a long life of the new water heater without the ADDITIONAL softener. I told him I was not interested, but he pushed and pushed anyway.
He also told me 'by code', the size of my gas line to the water heater was way too small, and also needed to be replaced.
So the clown eventually gives me both estimates... $6,294.33 AFTER a $611.10 discount if I sign up for the membership for the water heater and water softener (that I never asked for)!! Holy crap.
The estimate for the regular old 40-gallon water heater was a shocking $3,311.45 (again after a $321.50 'discount' if I signed up for their $26.99 a month membership). Oh HELL NO...
I had a few choice words for the guy, and sent him packing, knowing this was easily more than DOUBLE any realistic charge.
I ended up calling a Mom and Pop plumber that I saw recommended on my local Facebook Neighborhood page. They were extremely nice on the phone, gave me an $1500 quote over the phone, showed up on time, zero upselling, did the job quick and professionally, with a pleasant repairman, who charged exactly what they quoted one the phone the day before.
This repair person also said my gas line was already up to code, looked fine, and there was no need to replace anything.
RUN LIKE HELL - AVOID SERVICE TODAY! - Located at 490 Villaume Ave, South St Paul, MN.
Great job Airtech. I have an older water heater and knew that it was probably a good idea to get it checked out to make sure that things are still in proper working order. Mark was very nice and educated me on what came up. No pressure or frills to sell me stuff I didn't need, he came in and did what was needed and what I had already paid for.
He did catch a few valves that were older and not under code, so I had them replaced but other than that I was not pressured to pay more or buy more than what I first intended to. He was quick and efficient and very friendly throughout the whole process. Great customer service, Mark took extra care to make sure he was careful around our home and with our stuff.
The best thing is that he came back after he had already left to make sure my gas fireplace was lit since he had shut off the gas. I would have not caught that for months since we hardly use it when it gets warmer out. Great job and reasonable prices from a company that understands customer service and respect.
