I have a Price Pfister pull out kitchen faucet (2 yrs old) that developed a leak in the sprayer and/or sprayer hose. I contacted PP and they sent a new hose and sprayer (in 8 days), no charge. After looking at a number of videos on how to install the new hose, I tried it myself but I didn't have the grip strength to complete the job. Since I had a coupon from Ben Franklin ($73 off), I called and explained the problem. The cust. rep. said there is an $89 service trip charge - in addition to any work done. I told her I had the coupon and asked if it applied to the service trip charge. She said yes, so I set up an appointment for 2 days later. The plumber rep, Matthew, arrived five minutes before the end of the schedule period, which was no problem. Matthew was very cordial and discussed a couple of ways to solve the leak (either replacing the hose, which PP had already provided) or replacing the O ring in the sprayer (with the O ring that PP had already provided). I said OK, how much. Matthew showed me the BF price sheet. My jaw dropped. The lowest price was $225. The repair would take less than 5 minutes! Really? REALLY? I said NO. Then I said I have a coupon that the scheduler said I could apply to the $89 service trip charge. Matthew said that coupon only applies if work is done. He said, no problem, all phone calls are recorded; so he called the scheduler. She played the recording, and yes, I was right. I had indeed said so the coupon is applied to the service call charge? Rep said yes, according to the coupon details. Yay! No...wait. In very small print that I needed my readers to see, it states not valid with any other offer or toward trip fee. Damm. So I paid the $89 and chalked it up to experience. (I asked Matthew what he would charge to install a new faucet...$350 - not including the faucet. BTW, he recommended Delta Faucets.) My advice: find an independent licensed plumber (recommended by someone you trust) and get the prices in advance. Not Ben Franklin! (The real Ben Franklin is probably raising his bushy eyebrows and saying Whaaaa?)
