Owner and President of Jim Russell Plumbing, Heating & Air, a local and trusted residential plumbing, heating and air conditioning company in the Boone, Hendricks, & Northwest Marion County area. For nearly two decades Derek has worked as a plumber and heating and air technician. He purchased Jim Russell Plumbing, Heating & Air over five years ago as a fourth generation owner.

I chose Jim Russell as the owner is a family friend and I am extremely disappointed in what I received. I had a leak that was due to a loose nut - my fault for not checking that. I was forced to work around their schedule because they would not come out at a time that was convenient for me. The technician was fairly helpful and had the problem resolved and was in and out of my house in 4 minutes. No parts, only labor. I was charged $180 for the 4 minutes they were in my house. A rate of $2700/hour. While I would have understood a rate of $60-$120 (there are costs for scheduling, training, trucks, gas, etc) $180 is an insane rate to charge, especially for a company that sells themselves on the money they have saved their clients.

I will be using a different plumber going forward that has upfront and reasonable rates with good customer service, unlike Jim Russell.

Be very careful with quotes and clarity on cost!!!!  Invoice was double the quote!!!  We called Jim Russell plumbing to look at a water heater that was not working and a couple other items we had questions on. They informed us they did not have time available to look at all items but would come out for the water heater and they quoted us a price for the visit and stated additional parts etc would be quoted before any further work was completed. Turns out the water heater just needed the igniter cleaned which the plumber did.

The plumber then offered to look at the other items we had. I asked about the price for this and he assured me I'm here for an hour there is no additional charge for me to look at the other items. I will let you know cost on any parts. Well, literally other than turning the allen wrench under our disposal he serviced no other items in our house. He did look at them and he told me how he recommended I could fix them myself. He left within the hour. I was very happy at that time...then the bill came...in was over DOUBLE what was quoted!!!

Upon calling their office I was told there must have been a misunderstanding. They refused to adjust the bill. We will not be using them again!!

Dont expect them to stand behind what they sell!! I called Saturday with a Unit not working as an emergency call. Was told someone would call me. Never got a call. We called someone else to come repair our unit. On Wednesday i called thdm back indicating i never got a call back asking if my unit is still under warranty. The lady told me she would research it and call me back. Ff to today, Friday still no call. I called back she told me she doesn't know and I need to ask the people that repaired my unit if it's under warranty! I said im sorry why would i ask them i bought from you... They know Lesa! And i wont be talked to this way!! WHAT????  You never called me back AT ALL but you're mad at me?? She hung up on me. So Abby and the staff at this place  do not stand behind their products and won't return calls to CUSTOMERS!! But she hung up on me because im upset I can't get an answer they are blowing me off and im not supposed to be upset!! My advice... DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THESE PEOPLE!! Fyi Abby i just wanted to know if my unit had a warranty! I am a customer! I paid you for my unit it's your job to answer my questions re: said unit!

On a Thursday I called because my air conditioner stopped working. They explained that they didn't have any appointments until the following Monday and we made an appointment for 3pm.  When they didn't show up I called the office and was told the owner decided not to work on my air conditioner.  The receptionist told me that was decided right after I made the appointment and she meant to call me.  It certainly is his choice but no one called to cancel the appointment and I sweated in the house for five days believing I had an appointment to have the conditioner serviced.  I see this is not the first complaint they have received on Yelp for not keeping appointments.

In July we found water dripping (not pouring) out the bottom of our water heater which was 12 years old.  Completely functional, not an emergency.  We called Jim Russell Plumbing.  They got us on their schedule within a couple of days.  Two plumbers showed up, assessed the situation and recommended a new water heater.  No surprise.  They drained the old and brought a new one.  They never offered a sales order or quote.  Shame on me for not asking!  They were professional and swift.  Whole thing took 4 hours or so including them picking up the new one.  When they were done, I asked them for an invoice.  They said that they would send one from the office.  When I finally got the invoice is was $3,633.  I was stunned.  I did the research.  The new water heater they installed could be purchased for $1,788 ($1,913 including sales tax and delivery).  If you follow the math, that means they charged me $1,720 for other materials and labor.  Other materials would be rather insignificant which means they charged me $215/hour for each of the individuals.  Not $215 total, $215 for each individual for each hour.  That's ridiculous.  When I called Jim Russell Plumbing to complain, they made it worse.  They told me that they charged me for an extended warranty, that again, they never told me about or gave me an option to not purchase.  For those of you who don't know, one of the biggest money makers for a manufacturer of any kind is their extended warranty.  Huge profit margins!  I politely made my case as to what I thought was a fair price.  After much back and forth, they refused to acknowledge any responsibility for poor communication and lack of transparency.  I will never use Jim Russell Plumbing again.

Flabbergasted.  They did not honor the scheduled appointment because it was no longer convenient for the technician.  Taking my business elsewhere.

I will never go back to this company. They let me and my 11 month son freeze when our heater wasn't working and didn't even have the curtesy to call me.  I called at 8:30 and spoke to a woman who asked if it was an emergency and I said yes it's very cold in my house especially with my young son. She took my info and said a worker would call me when he was on his way. He would be there soon because it was an emergency. I waited 2.5 hrs before calling the number back and a different lady said they actually doesn't have any time to come today and she was getting around to calling me to tell me. I waited 2.5 hrs in the freezing cold for her to tell me they changed their mind. Now I have to call someone else and wait longer in my freezing cold house with my son. This is insane. Who leaves a mother and son out in the cold and doesn't even bother to call you back so u can change plans? This is so wrong

HORRIBLE!!!  I have never in my life written a bad review for a company, but I feel compelled.  They charged me for a trip charge twice and couldn't diagnose the problem.  I ended up with water in my basement two times, and they had the nerve to charge me two times for a trip charge without fixing anything.  Terrible customer service.
