North Coast Plumbing Sewer & Drainage

In September of 2022 we had flash flooding in Portage Park and many homes had sewer back-up flooding, including us.

I called about a dozen plumbers for estimates for a flood control system for our home. Eric from North Coast plumbing looked over our house and quoted a fixed reasonable price for a double valve flood control system.

Sure there a few other options out there but most of them would give us a low price and then all the extras (light electrical for the pump is extra but required), some of them did not even bother to look at the basement.

Eric explained how they would do the job and what kind of materials they would use. I liked they they would be installing precast concrete rings instead of building the pit with blocks. Using blocks is cheaper but I wanted rings.

Basically from start to finish we had a really good experience with Eric, Nicole and the crew.

We had a Kohler toilet rebuilt.....new fill & flush valves.  They came when they said they would, performed the work quickly and didn't leave a mess.  What's not to like??

Rarely these days do you come across truly remarkable people in business who do the right thing for the customer, it is usually the opposite.  When I talked to Dan last week, I was truly impressed.

As a shade tree mechanic, I have fixed most things over the past 50 years. I had a leak in the shower that I tried to fix it and I could not stop the leak. I gave up and decided to call a professional to come fix it.

After calling Welter Plumbing, Dan asked us to send a few photos of the problem.  He called back a few minutes later and we talked briefly.  He gave me fantastic advice over the phone.  15 minutes later, I fixed the leak.

We've used North coast Plumbing for several of our needs around the house. Every time they have been courteous, professional, and go above and beyond. They always answer all our questions and are willing to show us the problem and have full transparency. Spectacular service that I recommend to everyone.

I had North Coast perform a water service line replacement when I first purchased our home.  Eric was extremely timely in his responses and was very upfront and honest with some of the things he was considering when planning the work.  A few months after living in our ancient home, we had a drain line completely disintegrate underneath our floor in the basement.  I got a ton of quotes from other companies- many of the shrink wrapped graphics on the side of the van variation. Eric gave a super reasonable quote over text.  We ultimately went with another company due to scheduling.  A few other times I have called them to do an annual sewer camera scope and they are the best.  What sewer company writes - on paper- that a sewer line is in great shape? They couldve sold me an entire sewer line replacement and I wouldve been none the wiser.  Broke, but definitely not even close to being aware of it.  Honesty is not a given in this industry and I can not say enough good things about how honest these folks are.  Even the people in the office give you real information and make every effort to work with your circumstances. I almost don't want to say this, but knowing I can call North Coast if we have a sewer problem makes me a little less worried.

It's nice to know who to call and not to have to search for a plumber again - North Coast takes care of our home every time. They respond quickly to problems, they honor warranties, their work is better than many of their peers and their pricing never has me second guess my decision to use them. I have used different plumbers for other jobs and North Coast's work is always better. All the connections, optional and useful valves, etc are done right so you can have confidence that your home is going to work as it should. This is long overdue as we had the work done back in November BUT better late than never for such an amazing company!My husband and I were blown away by the level of service and care that this company put into their work.We have an old 115 yr old home and didn't  know whether we had an issue or not as we couldn't quite pinpoint an exact problem.They are super responsive to emails,very clear in their information and actually came in under budget for what we were expecting.

I had a tricky job to lay water, gas and sewer lines from the front of the street all the way back to a recently built coach house (about 150 feet), including two big cuts through concrete and in to the side of my basement five feet underground and under a porch. I had four companies come out. Three of the four pretty much declined saying it was too difficult. I found North Coast here on Yelp. Eric the owner came out and basically said it was no issue and turned around a reasonable quote within a few days. We were scheduled in and the crew showed up. It was a pretty epic dig but Eric and his team were super fast and professional. They were done in two days, which was amazing. They filled in the large trench, cleared up, put down grass seed and were on their way. No need to go anywhere else for your plumbing needs. Thanks Eric!

Communicated exclusively by email to discuss my plumbing problems and schedule the appointment, which I personally preferred. They even requested photos of the faucets and that I double check a couple things to make sure the appointment went as smoothly as possible.  

The plumbers showed up 30 minutes early - wow! They were masked and very clean (used towels around their work space, put things back after they moved them). They pointed out the work performed and made a couple welcomed, no-pressure recommendations for future improvements.

The price was right on the mark with the quoted rates.

Overall, I couldn't be happier with North Coast and can't recommend them more highly!

They were unable to do what i wanted done! Have sump pumps and an overhead sewer.  Wanted to get battery backups installed and my system checked out, replaced if needed.  They were over for 10 minute.  Poured water down them. Told me they worked, they then said the pumps they instal with battery back ups were not as powerful as mine.  They charged me $125, left and forgot to re-hook up my washer, which was where they got the water from to pour in my pumps

Another company attempted to rod our clogged sewer line for 15 minutes and stopped because they thought their equipment would get damaged. They told us we needed to dig into our front yard to have it in unclogged and to put in a clean out outside our house. The quote for that was super high. Thank goodness we called North Coast for a second opinion. They were able to unclog our sewer line after an hour. They also recommended having a clean out installed but quoted us $1500 less than the other company. We've found our go-to company that we can trust for future sewer and drainage problems.

Had them install a gas line for an outdoor grill. Received multiple quotes and they were much more reasonable. They showed up on time and made fast work of the project.  I liked that they discussed different options before starting to make sure we were on the same page.  Will be using again.

Quick and easy. They responded quickly through the Yelp app, the set up an appointment and even arrived early.

They did leave our gate open, and did not announce their arrival and just went straight into our back yard, but the service was provided during COVID, so perhaps they are limiting interaction for everyone's safety. I bit more communication around this would have been helpful for me. But, I would certainly have them back. They did good work and in a timely manner.

My tenant's tub was draining slowly and I used an air gun and a plunger to unclog the drain but I created 2 new leaks that came from the bathtub and overflow drains. I contacted North Coast, explained the situation, showed pictures of the leaks and they were able to estimate the costs for repairs. Jesus and Johnny (who were both wearing facemasks due to COVID) arrived early during the four hour window and they both ended up replacing the pipe work. They also rodded out both drains from the bathtub and bathroom sink. Jesus and Johnny were professional and they explained and showed me everything before and after the work that they performed. The cost was within the estimate and the work is under warranty. I'm very satisfied with the job so thanks North Coast!

They know how to run a business! Always professional, responsive and they do everything right. I really like working with them and they have earned my loyalty!

This review is overdue and probably better that way. We have had a home in Glenview in our family since the 50's. In the 80's it began to flood occasionally and drain pipe and a double pit backyard sump pump system was installed. We maintained this system and it worked well till the floods of 2013 (I think) at which time that system no longer worked. Fast forward 3 flooding events and a backyard like a lake for days after any good rain. I believe in the fall of 2018 we called for an estimate. The offer was 1 gravity drain in the back yard and a rework of the basement sump system. You bet your bottom we asked questions up and down. How was that going to work when 2 pumps in the back and one in the basement couldn't keep up?  In the end we believed them and went for it. The system has worked great ever since. Our backyard is dry within hours even after heavy rain. We've been happy and continue to call them for other plumbing needs.

But let's talk about these last few weeks. This constant soaking and heavy rains would have been disastrous in the past. It still wasn't pretty and the system was put to the biggest test. The results. The night we had the heaviest storms overnight is the first time I've ever seen that drain covered in water and the backyard begin to flood. It rained hard for such a long time and wouldn't let up and the water was slowly inching towards the house. Thankfully the really heavy stuff finally let up after an hour and the drain was able to catch up. After 30 minutes of moderate rain the backyard was walkable again and when we got up in the morning it was dry. A few days later it was happening again and we had really no drying out time in between these events. This time the drain kept up, the yard flooded a bit but within 30 minutes of light rain it was all dry again. Sorry this is so verbose, but I dint know how else to say USE THESE GUYS! What they've done for us is beyond anything we ever thought possible and although the work was extensive and expensive it is worth every penny we spent. Thank you!!

I won't go anywhere else from now on. Perfectly legit, licensed, knowledgeable, honest, professional and worthy of your business. These know the business and they have more skills than your average plumber.  Again let these guys be your first and only call. Oh almost forgot to mention that another plumber mentioned these guys to me...told me these guys were fair and did great work! I mean come on...

He quickly fixed my drainage issue in my tub and had the time to answer some of the concerns I have with water pressure and insulation for the pipes in my top floor bathroom.

Dylan and Reco quickly took care of the blockages in our sink and tub. They also consulted on a few repairs we need. We will definitely use them again, as they were the most cost efficient and fast plumbers we have used!

North Coast quoted me clear and reasonable prices for the work done. I had a huge run of bad luck requiring a change-out of a failing sump pump, ejector pump and a 20-year-old water heater  (all at the same time). I gave Nicole the info I had over the phone, got estimates from multiple plumbers, felt insulted by other plumbers when they asked why I was having multiple plumbers quote the job, and was glad I went with North Coast who never questioned my intelligence or my need to manage my expenses since I'm not made of money.

Nicole was able to quote me prices over the phone, consult Dan with my specific questions quickly, return my phone calls so I could get started on the work when I had made a decision to go with them. They replaced my commercial grade water heater (A.O. Smith, which was what I had before), replaced my sump pump and ejector pump with Zoellers. I even got me more horsepower on my sump than I had before. Everything came with standard 1 year parts and labor, and manufacturer stated warranties on parts (like most plumbers and manufacturers offer).  

They also made great suggestions for my drainage hose and now my landscaper is on the job to help address that so I will be less likely to have issues with my new sump in the future.

I really want to thank Nicole, Dan and the two men Ryan and Daniel who helped do the work for their kindness and the way they treated me during the process. It is this sort of respect for people that I really appreciate, and the care and attention they brought to the job was obvious. Ryan and Daniel did a terrific job in explaining what they were doing while on site and did not talk down to me, as many contractors often do.  Please convey my comments to Ryan and Daniel and keep embracing fair and respectful treatment of customers  North Coast is the company to hire for your plumbing needs!

My sewer backed up and needless to say I was frantic. I called and was quoted a fair price. They also were able to send out someone the same day.
Eric was very professional and fast. I can't recommend him enough! Thank you North Coast for providing excellent service in a timely manor and a good price. Oh and btw, the price quoted was the actual price I paid which is wonderful.
Totally honest company!

North Coast are beyond super!  Eric came out to provide a simple quote and ended up being a detective for close to an hour, figuring out that the super-saturation of our backyard was neither due to the sump pump drainage, nor our need to re-grade the yard (which were what I was expecting to hear).  

No!  Actually, there was a water line installed by the previous owner to the garage, but partially terminated at some point, that had not been removed from the house.  It had gotten turned on and was dumping water underground in our yard, but most of it was feeding into the cistern.  There was nothing visible in the garage to indicate a line- just in my home.  

He shut the water off, stopping the flood, then hypothesized a reason a line would have been placed there (hunting, subsequently confirmed by my neighbor), and that the owner had repoured the garage concrete over the floor drain.  I'd had three other people out before him and got bids for sump pump work and batteries, redirecting the flow to the alley, etc., but no one else had thought to just look at the water meter.  He wouldn't even let me pay him for his time, but I had his plumbers come out and remove the offending line from our home the following week.  I'm having them come back to work on the sump pump as well, and will likely have them out for a backflow solution, if it's recommended.

Our basement had started to back up with sewage and after calling North Coast, they had someone out in a day.  Jesus and Johny were the employees who serviced the issue and were completely professional and courteous while working on the job.  They were able to fix the issue in 2 hours and spent to time to explain what the issues were.  Really appreciate their work and time and would use them again.

I called over 10 different plumbers and sewer companies and the average estimate for a Flood Control (Check Valve) was $8,000+. We are house poor because we just bought our home and had sewer backup issues within 2 months (We live in Dunning).

I found North coast on Yelp and gave them a call, I explained to Eric my dilemma and budget constraints and he offered to come by and try to help.

Eric came by and agreed that I needed a check valve and asked what I could afford. After some discussion we were able to agree on a price that I could afford without comprising the system. I was so relieved and within 8 days the team from North Coast was at our house digging out the front yard.

They used a brass 6 check valve, precast cement basin and a Zoeller pump. The best of the best as far as parts go, so I knew they did not cut corners to make my budget.

The team was super professional and got the job done in one day as promised. They also left the yard just as clean as it was before they got here.

They also let me stand and watch them the entire time, I am kind of a nerd when it comes to my new home and like to be familiar with every aspect of it.

I could not say enough good things about North Coast and their team. My wife and I can now sleep at night without worrying about the next rain storm.

Eric came out to give us an estimate. He showed up on time and was very informative. My husband and I felt very comfortable with him and knew he was the guy for our job. The pipe that led to our sump pump pit had collapsed and we needed a new pipe and trough drain put in. Eric's estimate was very reasonable so we went ahead and hired him. Eric and his crew worked diligently and finished the job in a few hours. The concrete work was wonderfully done and we no longer have any issues. THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!

We hired NCSD for a sewer inspection on a house we're buying. The seller asked us to move the inspection up a day, and NCSD was very accommodating when I made the last-minute request. Also, they charged less than half of what we had paid for a sewer inspection from another company a few years ago. Eric was polite, professional and competent. We were not able to get into the house at the time because of a frozen lockbox, but he accessed the sewer and provided his report. He also looked over our inspection report to let us know his thoughts on the house's overall plumbing for no extra charge. We will be using NCSD again!

I wanted to provide an update that North Coast has been awesome to work with and has helped to answer many questions I've thrown their way about various plumbing stuff.

Our prior seepage issue that my original review was about doesn't happen anymore despite some savage rainfall this year.

They came in the middle of the night to help with a backed up patio drain that was flooding water into our family room which was great, they did not fix anything which was not so great. It was the middle of the night and the young man, Dylan, was tired and it had stopped raining so we let him go home and he assured us that someone would come back the next day to further investigate and hopefully fix the problem. No one ever came back. When I called the company to ask for someone to come back and complete the job they said they didn't think they could fix it and if they did come back they would charge me again. I said no thanks.

My father-in-law's house was backing up water while he was away on vacation. I found the North Coast Sewer and Drainage flier with my father-in-law's previous plumbing bills. I decided to give North Coast a try.

I am beyond pleased with Eric and his company. He is very professional, knowledgeable, and an excellent problem solver. I am beyond grateful to him and his company. From this point on I will be using North Coast Sewer and Drainage for all my plumping needs.

We couldn't have been more pleased with North Coast Sewer and Drainage after a water pipe issue this past December.  When we noticed our water bill had spiked up to $500 for the month, we immediately called some of the local and well reviewed plumbers to take a look.  The general consensus was that one of our exterior water pipes had a leak somewhere between our house and the water meter.  We got three different quotes from plumbers who all quoted us in the $9k-11k range, saying there was no other option but to rip up the entire ground and sidewalk between our house to the water meter and replace the entire pipe. When we asked if there was any way to just locate the leak and repair or replace that portion of the pipe, we were told no.

I was complaining about this to a co-worker who recommended North Coast Sewer and Drainage, after she used them for some intense repair work in her basement.  Eric came out immediately and had no problem opening up the water meter area outside, sticking a fancy camera down there and locating the leak within a 2-3 foot radius.  He gave us the various scenarios based on what he might find and the costs associated with each one.  The best case scenario was that they could dig just in the vicinity of the pipe, repair the leak and cost less than a third of what others quoted us.  Worst case was that the leak wasn't where he thought and they'd have to rip up more, and would cost half of what the others quoted us.  While the others quoted a minimum of 2-3 days of work (meaning we wouldn't have any water turned on in our house for 2-3 days and would have to live elsewhere), Eric said it would take 4 hours or 8 hours tops.

He was the only person who was actually trying to do the reasonable thing for us to make it cost efficient and as convenient as possible.  My husband was traveling and I had a 2 year old and a 5 month old at home.  The last thing we needed to do was relocate somewhere for 2-3 days while our entire front yard was ripped up to find a leak.

They were able to come do the work 2 days later, in the freezing cold weekend, and everything worked out to the best case scenario that he had quoted us.  Seriously, when does that ever happen that a contractor ends up charging you the lowest end of the quote range he gave you??  When we noticed later on that the concrete they had laid for the sidewalk was sloping, Eric happily sent someone back out to level it out for us at no charge.  We could not have been more pleased and more thrilled to be treated so fairly and honestly.  North Coast will be our first call for any plumbing or pipe needs as long as we live in Chicagoland.

North Coast has always been responsive, reasonably priced, and helpful.  I've been using them for five years and have always been happy with their work.

The first contact was pleasant and professional. The lady on the phone listened to my story and propose different options that would fit my situation. She then set an appointment 5 days from the time I called.
That day, a crew of 2 arrived. They assessed what to do pretty quickly, opted for the cheapest solution, explained very clearly what I should expect and then proceeded to start the routing.
It was hard work. The guy holding the routing pipe is pretty big and strong and I could see how difficult it was, how straining the whole process is. But he kept a smile on his face and did the job efficiently and quickly. I knew he had been successful when my toilet drained properly.

These guys were great, I would use them again for any more sewer work I needed, or to service my flood control pit.  

I called to get my sewer rodded for the 3rd time in 4 months and they came out, sent a camera down, and saw that multiple spots of my outside sewer line were broken, misaligned, or just gone.  They then rodded it out to give me some service, which they didn't even charge me for.

A couple of weeks later they came back and excavated a portion of my front yard and completely replaced the old clay line with 22 ft. of new PVC.  It passed the city inspection, and then they backfilled with new dirt and then seeded the strip of lawn that was torn up.

Very professional, on time, I felt comfortable letting them tear up my front yard.  I would definitely call again for future issues.

UPDATE: sure enough, I had another issue that came up with my sewer line.  The backflow valves in my flood control pit were rusting over and so all my waste water/sewage was kicking into the ejector pit causing it to run all the time.  While that is fine for a short time, it's not meant for the long term.  I gave these guys a call and they came out and replaced the whole valve system and reconcreted the bottom of the pit so everything would flow better into the ejector pit if anything happened again.

Like last time, they knew what they were doing, worked efficiently, and I would definitely call them again if necessary.

I had Eric and his team install a Flood Control System in my house last year.  After getting 10 different quotes and dealing with dishonest people, North Coast earned my business.  They are affordable and extremely professional.  They also follow up with you to remind you to service your flood control and give you an affordable servicing fee.  Please don't wast time calling anyone else.  These guys rock and deserve to do business with good people.  Thank you North Coast for your continued professionalism.

Straight shooters, hard workers, got the job done with no nonsense and clear communication and real expertise.

I called about a minor issue with our sewer system last week expecting the worst. Eric stopped by the next day, spent 10-15 minutes checking things out, gave me some advice, and then went about his day. Total cost - $0. I guess I was just fortunate not to have a bigger issue, but he seemed genuinely interested in helping me out knowing he wasn't going to charge me. I chose this company specifically because of their reviews and they didn't disappoint.

Our darling money pit of a house had a few sewer/pipe related issues (not a shock when it was built in the 50's and had never had any pipe work done). Eric came out to diagnose our issue (drain in basement was backing up) and offered us two solutions: one, to have our main pipe rodded out from the interior going OUT, or to have it rodded out from the exterior going IN. The first option was quite reasonable, and the second, while expensive, was way under what even our contractor estimated it would likely cost.

Ultimately we went the more expensive route - which proved to be the right choice. Eric csme out and used a camera to see that roots had completely overtaken our pipe - not uncommon here in Tree City, Winnetka. So the next day he sent his wife to collect our contract and pull permits from the City. The day after that they were hard at work digging up our yard but it was amazing to me just how careful and neatly they did the work, considering they had a mini-excavator in our front yard. The pipe broke in the process (again, this was not a surprise, it happens a lot) so they just fixed it. It was an all-day job but they were fantastic.

So we think our problems are over but we are still getting a back up in our basement. We place a call to Eric and he comes the next day, ready to fix it. It turns out it was a few different problems meshed together, but after clearing pipes downstairs and doing a MAJOR unclogging job upstairs, (this whole thing took about 3 hours), problems have been solved and HE DID NOT CHARGE US A DIME. That's right - he came back to fix it and didn't charge extra.

I will tell you this - it is hard to find quality work and integrity, and Eric and his crew are the real deal. Timely, polite, smart, hard-working. We are so grateful to him and his team, and we would not hesitate for one second to refer him to anyone else in the area (yes, Winnetkans, you live in a flood plain, so take Eric's number down, you will likely need it at some point!).

Eric and his staff are always great. They are prompt at getting back to me. They are always pleasant and professional. His prices are always reasonable and the workmanship is always top notch. He has repaired dripping faucets, broken pipes, resealed toilets for us. He also installed a new shower system, he was so great in helping me figure out how to find the best one out there to replace the old one that was rather unique. I just wanted to write a quick review to say that I also am very pleased with the professionalism that Eric showed when he came to look at my sewer catch basin today. I was afraid that there might be a major problem going on but was reassured that it can be fixed relatively quickly and that it's not going to be a major job. I look forward to seeing the completed work. I was also very pleased at how quickly the office returned my call.

In the course of six months after buying our house, we had two separate basement floods due to Chicago city sewer back-ups during heavy thunderstorms. We knew we needed to do something, otherwise this would continue happening and ruining our basement each time. We took a chance on North Coast after reading a number of positive reviews of them online. Eric, the owner, came to the house to offer a free inspection of our entire sewer line. He was very thorough, looking in our catch basin and all throughout the pipes in the basement. He also took the time to run water throughout the house to see if he could determine where the drainage problem/backup might be. He determined that a flood control system was the end-all-be-all solution that would prevent any future sewer back-ups, BUT! He most definitely did not aggressively sell me. He answered all my novice questions about plumbing and sewer systems, and he even provided me with a printed diagram of how the flood control system would work. He was ready and willing to rod out the system right there on the spot, but he wanted me to be comfortable with whatever decision we make, whether it was to do nothing, to rod out the system, or to install a flood control system (which also includes rodding and camera exploration). We opted for the flood control system.

The entire project took only one day, which I found incredible. North Coast takes care of pulling all necessary permits through the city, and they take care of the city inspection after the work is complete. The crew was very courteous and friendly all day. Tom, their electrician, was very thoughtful for how he ran power from our circuit box in the back of the house to the front yard where the flood control system was installed. He was able to run power through a spare conduit pipe he found in a section of cut-out drywall in the basement. They were very thoughtful about our yard and all of our neighbors' yards too, putting down sections of plywood on which the excavator machine and dump truck could drive for digging the hole for the system. They arrived at 8am, and they were pouring concrete to replace my front walkway by 5pm and on their way by 5:30. I would hire North Coast again in a heartbeat to tackle any sewer or plumbing issue at my house.

Our old 19th century house is no match for Eric at North Coast Sewer.  Even though our house tries to make things overly complex, he always has a good answer.  When our tight staircase did not allow for the equipment to be brought upstairs...Eric was able to gather up a few extra hands to lift the equipment over the banister, solving the problem of a tight corner.

Eric and his colleagues answered the phone on a Sunday, gave me some suggestions of how to solve the problem too.  But alas, it was too complex so he came out.

North Coast Sewer & Drainage installed a flood control system for my home.   I highly recommend them because they adjusted their schedule to meet my need, offered competitive pricing (best of 4 quotes), did the work they said they would do (in one day),  and included restoration of the front lawn at no extra charge.  North Coast obtained the permit and handled the municipal inspection.  The work crew were professional and tidy.  

What made North Coast stand out for me was how they handled additional work.  They sealed the old interior check valve-pit - which I forgot to mention at time of quote - at not extra charge.  A competitor wanted an additional $2,500 to seal the interior pit and perform unnecessary work - a pipe stint.  I am happy that I called North Coast!

We had been having issues with our sewer line and a collapsed pipe for some time and rodding was not fixing the issue. We had a number of plumbing companies out to assess and propose a solution. North Coast came up with a fix that made the most sense for fixing the problem long term and gave us a fair price for the work. They were extremely efficient in completing the project and cleaned everything up nicely afterwards. We have been burned by a number of other plumbers but we will trust North Coast going forward.

We just moved to the area and into an old house. We've used North Coast Sewer and Drainage twice now--once to blow out the slow-moving drains upstairs, and once to figure out how to turn off the outside water.

Both appointments were easy to make, and both times Eric was able to help us out. The prices are reasonable. (In fact, Eric has gone above and beyond in that respect with us.) And Eric has also been really flexible. The first time he came out to fix our drains, he was writing up our bill (his tools already put away in his truck), and then I remembered that, oh yeah, I needed him to look at the leaky dishwasher, too. Instead of being irritated with me (as he had every right to be, let's face it), he went back out to his truck, got his tools, and fixed the leak then and there.

We are really happy with this company. They've been very professional, kind, and, most important, successful in solving our plumbing problems. When we have an issue, we know they will make it right.

I had a sink hole in front of my drive way and the city said it was because of my pipe. I called Roto rooter and numerous other rooter companies some other specialists all quoted me 20to25 k. I've used North Coast several times and I didn't have good experience EVERY single time - I found them to be very expensive and wanting to charge me work that is not needed.  For example, they told me that my sump pumps need to be replaced but they are actually working properly.  I shouldn't have to compare work with other companies if they can just be honest and with good integrity.  I will never use them again.

I called at 7:45am because of sewer backup into house, James and crew from North Coast rolled up at 8:30am. He reviewed the issue, routed the lines, cleared blockage within an hour. They also replaced some pipes needing repair. Honest and fair pricing. I have now found my go to plumber.

These guys arrived right on time and came early and they knew what the problem was right away.  They worked quickly and the quote from the company was accurate. would recommend again.

The issue with the hot water heater was that Eric told me he talked to them on the phone and they told him it was UL Listed. But his staff that picked it up told me he checked and none of them were UL Listed. But then I came home and it was installed anyway. If Eric had called me with the truth, rather than just installing it, it would've been no big deal.

Eric is right, I DID question his integrity, and rightly so. When the story keeps changing throughout the process, one has to. The bottom line was that they wanted to get a BIG job done in a day or a day and a half, and didn't want to come back, so they pushed certain things through to avoid delays. Eric was good about calling me, but just not good about waiting for me (even a half hour) to call back before proceeding.

In February we had sewer line back-up due to a broken connection in our line to the city service. Another highly regarded plumber on the North Shore rodded the line, found the damage, and quoted a very high fee to repair and install a new clean plus inspect for likely further trenching and line replacement. Then Eric Rohde from North Coast came up, did a very thorough inspection and explained the situation very professionally. He provided a quote for repair including deep trenching for many $thousands less than the other firm, and assured me that further line work was in fact unlikely to be needed. Almost immediately, Nicole, Eric and team proceeded to pull the permit, schedule J.U.L.I.E. marking, and set up the job. The whole workday went as planned, and Eric coordinated closely with the Village of Deerfield inspector so he could observe the work and look at the video of the remaining line to the city service (all clear). Eric and his team could not have been more professional. They were at all times friendly, respectful and answered all our questions (dumb and otherwise!). They left the job site very tidy looking. We will certainly have Eric and his team back to handle any other drainage and sewer tasks. Highly recommended!

Our sewer line that runs from the house to the main city line was clogged with tree roots and essentially non-functional, causing sewer back ups into the house.  We obtained multiple quotes and professional opinions on how the repair should be handled.  North Coast had the most reasonable approach and cost for the work that needed to be done.  Eric came to assess the situation and quote the price for the project during the time that he said he would be here (within 24 hours of our initial call).  He obtained approval from the city we live in within a day of our signing the contract to approve the work and was here bright and early the next day with his crew to complete the job.  The crew was efficient, professional, and worked hard until the job was finished.  They even cleaned up a mess on our back patio caused by our clean out having overflowed (this was not even in the area that the repair was being done).  This was all done during the coronavirus crisis.  I applaud North Shore for their superior customer service and highly recommend them.

We just bought our house 4 months ago, and moved in last Friday.  That night, I noticed that there was water coming out of the center drain, and a trickle of water from the sewer main.  (We had just painted our basement floor the day before, which was ruined!) . I first called one plumber who came out, spent 2 hours trying to rod it, and couldn't figure out how to fix the problem, so he left.  (Didn't charge.)  I then called another company to come, who proposed ripping out our entire backyard to put in a clean-out...they wanted an obscene amount of money!
Out of desperation, I looked for a third plumber...and lo and behold, I found the dream company to deal with:  North Coast!  Eric, the co-owner, and two of his workers, showed up a half an hour after I called!  They spent well over an hour trying to rod the line, but it was way too clogged.  Eric proposed opening up a small hole in our driveway, putting in a PVC pipe, and a clean-out.....
Victor, the other owner, and his crew came out today, and did a fantastic job!  The drains are now working perfectly....if you ever have a sewer problem...these are the guys to call...

The owner Eric (and team) showed up on time, his estimate was very reasonable, and Eric seems like the real-deal...honest, knowledgeable, and best of all....  he's always smiling because he seems to really dig his job (no pun intended).

Eric and his team busted out our basement landing and installed a drain connection to a pipe that other companies had a hard time finding....Eric found it...8 feet down, right away.  His locator equipment and pipe cameras seemed state-of-the-art...he obviously invested in quality equipment.  His crew was experienced, and there seemed to be a sense of team-work among them.  

His crew put everything back exactly the way it was (ripped out part of a stone patio) - had I not seen them do the work, I may not have known they were at our house.

He put in a way-better drain system than I thought I had paid for.....and two days later it was all tested with a torrential down-pour of water....drain worked perfectly.  Eric even called to follow up after the storm....

How could I write a better review?

10 years of  construction projects at our house .... we've had our fair share of bad experiences .....hiring Eric was the easiest, best experience.

We own a rental property in Glenview and after our current tenants departed decided to investigate the root cause of water in the lower level family room.  A sewer backup system was installed about 12 years ago by another company but we still had rain water during really heavy storms.  We had the Village of Glenview send paid engineers to inspect the property and assess how water may be coming into the home.   One of their recommendations, among others, was to call a plumber and video the storm lines and make any necessary repairs (I didn't have to pay someone to tell me that)

My wife found North Coast through Yelp and so Eric came and gave us an assessment.  His description of how water enters a home was very similar to what the Engineers said, in fact he was better than them.  He was able to quickly assess that our clay tile storm line had collapsed in front of the house and this was probably the main culprit.

He gave me a quote that included digging the front yard, putting in a new PVC, and also included the annual maintenance of the sewer backup system and fix a leaking faucet in the bathroom to boot.  Sounded like a good deal so I said yes.  Eric pulled the city permits that day and was about start the following day.   But because I did not shop around I was having second thoughts given that this was a big job.

So I put a hold on the job and called two other plumbers, including the company who initially installed our backup system and did the annual maintenance.  They weren't even close.   One plumber wanted to charge me just for videoing the storm line.   The other suggested cutting off the storm line completely from the city.  When I asked if this was legal, he said he's doing this all over Wilmette and that village has approved it....but hinted he would not pull a Glenview permit for this job!

Both plumbers quotes came in at twice the cost of what North Coast was quoting and it didn't include the other two things Eric threw in (maintenance of sewer backup and fix leaking faucet)

We went back to North Coast, and Eric being the nice guy he is, had no issues and since the permit was already pulled, he got to work a few days later and was finished in 1 day.  They did it while I was out of town, so I don't have any pictures of the work.   But it obviously passed inspection.  We also added a catch valve to the new storm line just for additional peace of mind.  Eric also did the annual service for the sewer backup system as promised.

The kicker was the leaking bathroom faucet that was also part of the original quote.  It was a European made faucet we installed when we did a remodel years back and the parts are not easy to come by.  Eric went to the original store we bought it from to pick up the part himself....but they gave him the wrong piece.  Eric made the effort to go back to the store several days later and return with the correct part to fix the leak over a weekend.

The bottom line is that Eric came off much more knowledgeable and trust worthy than the other plumbers including the one I've been using for years.  He also has more practical experience than the village sanctioned engineers.  I will definitely use him again or refer him to others based on his honesty, work ethic, fast service and competitive pricing.

Once again, North Coast saved the day. Our sump pump malfunctioned on a Sunday morning, and Eric had a plumber out within a few hours to replace the pump and stop the flooding. James upgraded our system so we'll never have to worry about a sump pump problem again, and they were honest and helpful as always. I cannot say enough about the professionalism and personal attention you get when you hire North Coast!

I have not used this company for service, but they are really good people. One of their workers accidentally side-swiped my car with their small truck, passing too close on the left. The incident was handled extremely professionally and honorably by the owner, Eric, and his wife, Nicole. They paid for all of the damages and the rental car I needed while my car was being repaired. I think that speaks volumes for their integrity and professionalism. They are really nice people and obviously care about their business and the way they handle things.

We just moved into our new house, (new to us, built in 1947) and immediately realized we had a leak from our kitchen sink into the basement. It quickly became a serious issue. Eric and his helper came and he assessed the problem and quickly devised a plan of action.  He then fixed our problem in a timely and professional manner. He turned what we thought would be a costly and lengthy repair into a quick and affordable fix. I recommend him highly for whatever plumbing issues that you may have. We will certainly stick with North Coast Sewer and Drainage when/if other plumbing issues arise!!!

A friend of mine asked for a sewer repair referral & that prompted me to write a review for work I had done last January. I had major issues with my main sewer line going out into the street with roots. After frequent toilet overflows & routing of the line, I finally decided to make the major repair. I was surprised by my initial estimate from a major, well advertised company - nearly $6,000. I received a recommendation to call North Coast from a local plumbing company that did not do sewer work. While a younger company I was satisfied with their experience. They did a terrific job! The cost was nearly half of my other estimate. The team was on time, cleaned up after digging up the area, pleasant & completely resolved the issue. I was impressed that the President of the company was with the team when they started the job & checked in during the work. The Village inspection was a breeze. I highly recommend North Coast & will use them again for any future sewer work.

We can't rave enough about this company. Eric and his crew have saved us time and again - both for inside plumbing problem (when things aren't draining) and for flood control. Wilmette is prone to flooding problems and we have had several attempts to solve them. This is the ONLY company that solved our flooding once and for all. They installed a flood control valve in our basement, and also drainage in the back yard since our back yard would flood. Even in heavy rains, our back yard doesn't flood anymore!

We use them to maintain our main sewer lines, fix our plumbing problems, even had them install a new high efficiency water heater. They are the best of the best.

I began to investigate our sewer problem for about two days in beginning of March 2019.
It included a little bit of digging as well.
I was almost 100% sure that our sewer pipe was broken, but when I called North Coast Sewer & Drainage and told them that they insisted to follow the common sense omit my opinion, follow the standard procedure and try to save me thousands of dollars by checking the pipe themselves and make sure was not just clogged.

I have been in the construction business-different trades in two continents since I was 16.
Very often this business could be really, really fishy.
At the moment, I work as an estimator and I prepare estimates for interior residential and commercial finish work and I believe or fool myself that I understand most of the monkey business that is going on sometimes in the construction business.
The plumbers confirmed that our sewer pipe is broken and there is going to be a big sewer repair job that will require an estimate and a city permit.
The plumbers called Eric and he showed up right away.
We had a short conversation about the sewer problem and I asked him to provide me with an estimate for the required repair work cost.
I signed the presented estimate without reading it.
This is how impressed I was by Eric and his crew.
Within the next two or three days, they took care about the permit and the sewer repair work at a  reasonable price.
I was very impressed again and this time we were able to go to the restroom and take showers without polluting the whole neighborhood with our waste.
On the end I had to pay, but they refused to charge me for the work they did just trying to unplug the pipe with the snake and filming the interior of the same pipe with the camera on the first day they came. This work lasted for about 3.5 hours and can easily cost about $600.00.
North Coast Sewer & Drainage did perform outstanding express work and service in very cold weather just to help us fix our sewer problem.

Great people to work with. I pretty much have nightmares about calling a plumber after my last encounter with one. But I have had enough with my clogged bathtub . Finally decided to call a plumber. North coast plumbing was a great choice. I started my search on yelp. This company showed up with some really high remarks and they delivered. The plumber showed up within the timeframe given. He was honest about our issue that it was minor clogged . He fixed it in less then 30 minutes. Not only did he charge us reasonably for his time and work. He also told me how I can fix this minor issue on my own in future so I don't have to pay for something this small and can happen very frequently . Absolutely recommend them to anyone .

The team at North Coast Sewer and Drainage is the best!  Eric, James and Dylan helped us out on multiple issues the first couple of weeks after we moved.  They came out to do a simple sewer rodding and we found out the sewer was blocked.  They spent hours trying to fix the problem without having to dig up the yard but we ended up having to as a last resort the following day. The level of service that they provided was incredible to make sure we had water service as soon as possible  Not only are they hard working and capable, but they made sure to be as cost efficient as possible when doing the work.  They fixed that major problem plus a few other issues for us and they are our go-to call for any water related issue. I have worked with these guys 3 times in the last few months, and always a very positive experience given the circumstances.  1 was a major and planned project that required excavation, permits, scheduling etc and all went off without a hitch and I felt that I got a good value.  Second was some very small projects that were handled efficiently.  Finally, during the recent flooding events Eric and crew were able to help me out with pumping what seemed like the entire Chicago river out of my garage.  Clearly we were freaking out and Eric came back a few times to check and help out even though he was obviously very busy with all the other customers also with emergencies.  Everyone that works for North Coast is a pro.  I remember people that help me out when I'm in trouble, and reward them with my business for life.

Eric and crew at North Coast are the model of a well run, successful business. Promptly returned phone call. Responded and showed up exactly as they said. Took the time to explain the procedure and possible unknowns. We had a slow drain outside the back door that went through the drain tile around the exterior of the house and to a flood control system. They repaired a 6-8' clogged section and the further out discovered that the drain tile was not even connected to the flood control system in the yard and was draining into the soil underground. The team completed all of the work in the same day, were very courteous and professional. Don't look further. Hire with complete confidence.

Normally I don't usually write reviews, even though I read them all the time. It's because of the reviews I called North Coast Sewer, about the water I was getting in the basement during heavy storms. From the first visit this company was very courteous and professional. They installed a flood control system in my front yard which took a day to install. I was very impressed at the work they did, but also the care they take in doing it. After they are done you wouldn't believe the small footprint that is left after the large amount of work they had done! To everyone at North Coast Sewer, Thank you for doing such a great job!

This review is way over due. We called North Coast Sewer and Drainage back in August after two failed attempts by other plumbing companies to fix a blocked main line. The other two companies were sent by our insurance company, so it took weeks to get them here, they didn't have the proper equipment, and they didn't do the job correctly.  We decided we had to get this fixed as quickly as possible. We called North Coast and Eric came out later that afternoon and had it fixed with in a few hours.  I wish I had know about North Coast weeks before. This issue had prevented us from moving into our new home for over three weeks and had we called them first we would have saved so much time and money.  They had the equipment to fix it that day.  Prices are reasonable and again the job was done correctly.  Eric was very knowledgeable and made sure we were able to visually see that it was fixed. We will for sure be using them again! Don't waste your time going thru other companies. Pay out of pocket the first time and get the job done correctly by these guys.

Eric and his team are as good as it gets.  I called him last summer due to some plumbing issues, and he did such a great job.  So when our basement flooded last week, his company was the only one I called for help.  Eric and his crew came the next day and worked hard to diagnose the problem.  We had a severe sewer drainage issues that burned out all four sump pumps.  He gathered a team together who arrived on time and solved the problem.  They were so professional and courteous.  They were also reasonably priced for the extent of the work.  Our insurance claims adjuster actually wrote down his number because he was so impressed with everything.  I highly recommend North Coast Sewer and Drainage.  I rarely write reviews but I had to for Eric and his great team.

I had a problem with main sewer line draining and needed the job done as soon as possible. We faced an unexpected  and expensive main sewer line  problem in a home we just moved to. Had many estimates and repair approaches explained to us. Eric assessed the problem with precision and with honesty - and gave one of the best estimates. The work was done with great care and expertise. Eric just finished clearing a tough drain problem.  He was very friendly, helpful and determined to resolve the challenge.  It was definitely worth the wait (huge storm last week).  Previously, I called another plumbing contractor and they arrived the same day.  They quoted the project at 3-1/2 times the price of North Coast.  I don't know who the owner of North Coast is, but, I'd be willing to bet that he is a decent, honest person.  North Coast is now my 100% go to plumbing contractor.  Thanks again Eric!  Dave from Highland Park

Long story short, manually snaking our drain didn't work, and then the water got left on all night, causing water to leak onto the floor, down into the kitchen.  yay...  They fit me in at 2:30 same day, came out, rodded out the sink, advised again rodding the downstairs shower due to sewer gases, and were on their way in 30 minutes.   And I have a working sink.   Thanks!  I should add they were professional, knowledgeable, and even put up with my dog.

Today Eric and Victor came to clear a frozen pipe (1/22/2014) at my family's house who was away on vacation.  Luckily nothing had burst yet.  I called at 9:30 am, and they came immediately.  Eric and Victor were very professional and friendly.  They cleared the pipe and then we found that the main drain line was clogged too.  They rooted out the clog, and everything was back to normal.  I definitely recommend North Coast Sewer and Drainage for anyone who wants fast and professional service.

There was a sewage smell coming from our utility room where we have most of the house's pipe work run through.  Called them to set an appointment for an inspection to find the problem.  Eric showed up right on time.  He was knowledgeable, professional, and wore those blue plastic shoe covering around the house.  He gave me some more affordable options to try before going the more expensive route.  Will call them again if I have more issues.

I called North Coast to come out for an estimate and advice as to what could be done to help me with a flooding issue that I had with my basement. Eric came out and recommended a non-plumbing solution to my problem. He related to me that he could not sell me a plumbing solution in good conscience because there was a good chance that I'd spend thousands and it might not work. I appreciate the honesty. Although I did not have North Coast do any work for me I thought the integrity showed to me by Eric deserved a great review. I will definitely consider this company for any future plumbing work that I may need.

We recently moved into a ranch on a slab and had 2 issues with our kitchen sing clogging up/draining slowly and backing up into a dishwasher. One guy came out and listed all the things that could be wrong and was suggesting we dig up the floor or remove our toilet to stick a camera down. We were freaking out that we would have to dig up the floors and pay for plumbing repairs and new flooring. Thank goodness we called North Coast. I wish I remembered his name, we had the nicest guy come out. He was super helpful and thorough and went through somewhere on the roof with the camera. We were able to see that there weren't any crazy roots, damage or clogs. He determined its the size of our pipes (due to age of our home) and let us know short term/cheaper solutions and preventative measures we can take to prevent clogs and clear the drain and also gave more long term but more expensive solutions as well but put no pressure. Gave us our options, solutions and offered sound advice. We will definitely be calling North Coast again with any plumbing issues.

I purchased a house in Park Ridge last year that I knew flooded during heavy rains.  I requested quotes from several companies on a flood control system and Northcoast's, while not the lowest, was very reasonable.  What sold me on them was Eric's knowledge of the issue and plan to fix it.  He was honest on timeline and ongoing maintenance requirements.  I could not be happier with the work and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

After our flood control company during routing told us that our sewer lines  collapsed, we called the Village of Skokie for advice.  The first question we were asked was how does that outfit know its collapsed?  The company wanted $450 to video the line.  The village sent us a list of sewer contractors who do work in Skokie (did not include our flood control company) and after checking reviews and Yelp, we settled on North Coast Sewer.  Next day Eric (owner) came out, did a video at no cost and said he doubted we had a collapsed line.  He explained how the sewer system is structured, how proper courting is done, and recommended installing an outside cleanout access on the street side of our flood control system.  He also explained the worse that could exist but doubted that was the case. He spend a lot of time with us, told us what costs would be involved and didn't charge for his visit even though he didn't know if we would use his service.  As promised his crew showed up two weeks later after utilities had marked the area for digging.  They installed the access line, properly routed, and and said there was no problem with the sewer line.  The service was not cheap but done so professionally and honest that there is peace of mind.  Everything was clean and neat and new top soil with seed was put in place where digging occurred.  These guys are first-rate.

My sewer was completely backed up, so I called in the pros.    Eric and Victor arrived at the appointed time, quickly identified the problem (grape vine roots packing the sewer line), and fixed it in about 30 minutes.  They even cleaned up the minimal mess afterwards.   I got the price over the phone before they arrived, and I didn't pay a penny more. I would definitely call them if I ever have sewer or drainage problems again, as well as for annual maintenance.

I will never use another sewer and drainage company again.  I now swear by North Coast with full confidence.  The company we used in June flooded our basement with sewage and took off with $400.  The one before that only routed one part of our sewer and left with $300.  The guys before that dug into our lawn and rebuilt some of the line unnecessarily.  North Coast came out yesterday to check our entire sewer and plumbing system, and to fix the messes left by all that came before.  They came on time and spent 2 hours.  They promised, then, to come back at 5 (after business hours) with additional workers, and showed up on time again.  Eric spent almost 3 hours on his second visit.  He routed every pipe, every branch of every line, and stayed until the entire house was proven to be clear.  All the while, he was friendly and respectful towards the home and the family, and then he disinfected any flooring that was affected by the work.  When all was said and done, all drains working better than they had in years, and Eric had been at our home for nearly 5 whole hours (!) and after hours, he STILL made sure that the final bill was reasonable and then spent a few moments explaining things to my mother.  Only after all was said and done did I realize that this is Eric's company!  I wish him all the success in the world and will contribute to that success however I can.  He's the most hard-working, honest contractor I've ever had the pleasure of working with.  I can't say enough to express how grateful we are that a friend recommended North Coast after Eric had been respectful and honest with her own elderly parents when their lines backed up.  THANK YOU, ERIC!

We've used Eric and the North Coast team a handful of times now (our house always seems to have a new plumbing issue) and he's always been top-notch. Honest, reasonable, and never overcharges or charges for the same issue twice. They're easy to work with and very knowledgable, and we can't recommend them highly enough. I found North Coast Sewer and Drainage on Yelp and decided to call them based on the reviews. Eric and his crew were super helpful and professional. I had a sewer smell problem in my basement that got worse over the years and it came to the point that the whole house was smelly and no one knew how to fix it. Eric came and investigated. First he told me that i would have to replace the entire line all the way to the street and that it would cost me $3,000. He arrived with all his equipment and crew and after looking with the in-pipe camera informed me that the problem is local in my basement and corrected the problem for a much smaller amount replacing all the pipes in the basement. He refused to take payment until I was completely sure that the problem is gone and that there was no more smell coming into the basement. This was a full 10 days after he did the work. We were completely impressed with his professional services, his expertise, and his honesty. I would highly recommend his company for sewer and plumbing work. amazing!
